The United Nations Convention On Contracts
The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sales of goods entered into force
January 1 1988. Among the 79 states that have ratified or acceded to the treaty to date are Australia,
Canada, the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, and Singapore. The Vienna
Convention, as CISG is also known, was designed to systemise and rationalise international contracts
in a particular region, drawing from a common legal framework. The CISG is divided into three
substantive parts plus final clauses. (The 1980 UN Convention of Contract for the International Sale
of Goods, 1990) WHEN DOES THE CISG APPLY? WHEN DOES IT NOT APPLY? Articles 1
through to 6 constitute Part I, Chapter I of the CISG, Sphere of Application . ... Show more content on

The scope of sales of goods governed by the treaty depends on the provisions already discussed, and
on Article 2 which exclude the following transactions: 2(a) consumer purchases (unless the seller had
no reason to know the goods were destined for personal or family use), 2(b) auctions, 2(c) execution
or other sales under legal process, 2(d) sales of commercial paper, securities or currency, 2(e) sales of
vessels, hovercraft or aircraft, and 2(f) sales of electricity. Furthermore, 3(a) sales of specifically
fabricated goods for which a substantial part of the input materials are supplied by the buyer, and 3(2)
contracts under which the preponderant part of the obligations of the supplier of goods consists in the
supply of labour or other services are also improper transactions. ARTICLE 5 (The 1980 UN
Convention of Contract for the International Sale of Goods, 1990) SUMMARY OF OTHER PARTS
Articles 7 through 13, which make up Part I, Chapter II, General Provisions , serve as important
guides for the interpretation of CISG, and for its application in concrete cases. These articles provide
rules for determining the intent of parties to a contract, and address the often crucial issue of the extant
to which customs and usages of a particular trade are binding.

Generation Reserve Is An Important Factor In Generation
Generation reserve is an important factor in generation planning or operating process, as discussed in
the previous chapter, subsection 3.1. Traditionally, fixed percentage of the peak load is used as a
reserve for planning purpose and another one for operating purpose. On solar generation system, both
of generation and load are variable. This behavior is extremely confusing in appropriate reserve
estimation. Solar PV power changes during the day, season and month. Moreover, clouds affects badly
on PV generated power, as discussed in section 2. This part discusses new techniques of generation
reserve estimation depending on a new reliability index called Clouds Effect On Load Loss or
CEOLL. This index is inspired from traditional LOLP ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fixed loading level or constant reserve range can t fit varying behavior of PV power. This study
propose new reliability index that defines appropriate reserve/ loading level monthly. Loading level is
calculated according to related clear sky solar radiation. By using CEOLL index, reliable reserve level
can be checked and adapted in case of cloudy weather. CEOLL can be represented mathematically as
follows: CEOLL= ( ∑_k▒P_k *〖LOL〗_k*t_k ) / tt W/m2 (3) Where: CEOLL: is clouds effect on

Us Support And Agendas Within The Middle East
US support and agendas within the Middle East have been extremely complicated in the last century.
Starting with the backing of the Shah of Iran in the early 1950s to the present day conflict in Syria,
there appears to be no decision without adverse secondary and tertiary effects. Since the Persian Gulf
War, US policy has been fully supportive of the Arabs and Turks while limiting official support for the
Kurds in Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. Nevertheless, unofficially, the US has fully supported the Kurds
militarily through the establishment of long term partnerships between military forces. While always a
point of contention with Turkey and the Government of Iraq (GOI), the recent increase in support for
Kurdish forces in Syria to oppose the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) brought the issue to
the forefront. The time for US policy to withhold support for the Kurds is past due to their critical role
in the campaign against ISIL. The US attempted to establish a coalition amongst the Turks and the
Arabs but this has largely failed to turn the tide of ISIL s advance. However, following the consistent
successes of the Kurds advance wresting control of northeastern Syria away from ISIL, it is a foregone
conclusion that the US requires an alliance with the Kurds if they wish to establish some semblance of
stability in the Middle East. In the end, can the US ethically and morally provide support to the Kurds,
ignoring requests from US allies in the region?

Essay The History of Gambling in Ancient Civilizations
The History of Ancient Gambling
Gambling was present in almost every major, ancient civilization. From the Mesolithic rolling of
hucklebones, to the Mesopotamian invention of the six sided die, and finally to the Chinese invention
of the card, not only did gambling survive through countless civilizations of ancient history, it evolved
into a global phenomenon. Stakes on these games could range from Quadrans, the Roman equivalent
of pennies, to betting an entire estate on a simple throw of the die. Interestingly, as in modern times,
ancient peoples and civilizations had varying opinions of gambling. Some ignored it, some outlawed
it, and some accepted it. Despite the numerous stances on gambling, one thing held true for all ...

But after the hunt, the hunters might cast bones to determine who went home with the most desirable
cuts, (Schwartz, 7). Divination was only the beginning. The first civilization in the world,
Mesopotamia, was also the first civilization to gamble. Mesopotamian fortune tellers filed down their
hucklebones, originally used for divination, and marked them with insignia, taking the first steps
toward a modern die (Schwartz, 8). Eventually, the Mesopotamians developed three styles of dice: a
four sided pyramidal die, a refined version of the four sided astragali, and our modern day six sided
die (Schwartz, 8). The earliest six sided die recovered dates back to about 3000 BCE (Schwartz, 8).
The Arabic number system was not created until 700 BCE. Therefore, dice are about two thousand
years older than numbers. Mesopotamians played a number of board games, one which might have
been an ancestor of parcheesi, along with one that greatly resembled backgammon, and another called
senet (Schwartz, 9, Wallenfels, 232). Five gaming boards dating from 3000 BCE have been found in
the royal tombs at Ur (Rofe, 92). Oddly, despite countless artifacts and archaeological evidence, the
Mesopotamians did not mention gambling in any of their surviving literature (Schwartz, 9). Gambling
has been a part of Egyptian civilization for as long as Egyptians have been a

How Did Aristotle Obey The First Cause To Change
Aristotle imagines an infinitely vast and eternally complicated universe, all under the control of a
divine being. He states that the reason for the universe must be love because if God did not desire the
universe, He would not allow the universe to exist. Through further observation, Aristotle then claims
that a change must be caused to change. It is through these changes that all physical entities appear
only temporarily. He then claims that there are four fundamental principles that describe all causes.
The first cause is the material cause, which states that all objects have an immanent material that
brings them into being. This is similar to Thales argument of origin where he stated that all moist
things must be brought into being from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The material cause, formal cause, and final cause all rely on an omnipotent being. The final cause is
the cause of the other causes, but if one were to suggest there was no ultimate purpose then the
efficient cause would explain all naturalistic creations. I would suggest that there is an agent that
causes the change. It is the light that reflects off a stump that makes the wood appear brown. It is the
result of evolution which is caused by the procreation of the surviving that allows for human beings to
exist. The material cause and formal cause can be explained by the efficient cause. I agree with the
final cause, because it answers the purpose of the efficient cause. If things can only be brought to
motion by an agent of change, then why bring the initial physical entity into motion if not for a
purpose. If every object is caused to motion by a purpose it must in some way be contributing to a
purpose that justifies its existence. Going back to Aristotle s initial argument, it is unreasonable that
something could come out of nothing if not for a divine being with a desire for the Universe s
existence. This God must desire the universe for some reason, this reason is the purpose of its

Anorexia And Bulimia Essay
INTRODUCTION
The rise in eating disorders has captured the attention of both medical and dental professionals. A
dental hygienist may be the first professional to detect an eating disorder due to the oral complications
that are associated with the condition (Foster, 2017). Eating disorders are described as a persistent
disturbance of eating behavior or behavior intended to control weight, which significantly impairs
physical health or psychosocial functioning (Fairburn Walsh, 2003). There are several types of eating
disorders and sufferers may have a combination of disorders. Among eating disorders, anorexia and
bulimia nervosa are the most common (The British Psychological Society, 2004). This review will
discuss the psychological and behavioral traits associated with anorexia and bulimia nervosa, as well
as the systemic and dental consequences.
Research has shown, most cases of anorexia and bulimia nervosa begin during adolescence, with the
growth of social media being linked to one of the causal factors (The British Psychological Society,
2004). There is some evidence suggesting roles of genetic, neurobiological and sociocultural factors as
well (The British Psychological Society, 2004). Morbidity and mortality rates may be higher because
individuals with eating disorders often deny the extent of their fasting, binge eating and purging
behaviors (Steinberg, 2012).
Anorexia nervosa is a mental disorder in which a person maintains a low weight as a result of a

What Are The Factors To Reduce The Possibility Of Type 1...
Lejuez et al., (2002) decided to reduce the possibility of Type 1 error by deciding beforehand (a priori)
to only look at the adjusted number of pumps as the measurement for riskiness, yet they found that the
number of explosions and unadjusted number of pumps produces similar results (p.79). A few
interesting results were found in this first BART experiment. The first is that, correlations indicated
that the adjusted number of pumps was not related to age or IQ for any of the balloon colors ( ps .05) (
Lejuez et al., 2002). They found no gender difference except for the blue balloons where it shows men
being slightly more risky, (table 1). That is, the adjusted average number of pumps on the blue balloon
was higher for men than for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They state that the first limitation is the sample that was taken from people at the higher end of
riskiness due the prompt they used in the paper that asked are you a risk taker? They state the second
limitation is that the people that answered the recruitment add where mostly white (75%) and well
educated. The third limitation that was reported that our assessment of actual risk behaviors was less
comprehensive, often relying on only a single measure or even on a single item (e.g., number of
unprotected sexual encounters) (lejuez, et al., 2002, p. 82). The fourth reported limitation is that
people were behaving cautiously on the task. Finally the BART only showed association with self
reported real world risk behaviors from the blue balloons. Therefore, the restricted range of the yellow
and orange balloons did not find the same relationship. Although there were some limitations to this
study, overall, it showed the BART it a useful tool in measuring risk taking behavior in the lab. The
BART was not designed to replace the existing self report measures; it is designed to tap into actual
risk taking behavior that can be observed in the lab. Risk taking behavior is only one facet of the issue
of developing an addiction. There are biological and environmental factors that impact outcomes.
Impulsivity is associated with risk taking behavior because both behaviors are associated with
maladaptive behaviors

LaKecia Osborne HIS 202 Journal III Prof. T. Johnson How did class structure, ethnicity, and gender
affect urban politics? Social classes and gender roles played bigger pivotal roles during the
urbanization of the United States during the earlier parts of the 20th century than ethnicity, in my
opinion. Women began to obtain more working roles in the industrialized America and middle class
women tried to lessen the burden of being in the working class or God forbid being worse and being
poor immigrant. They did this by opening settlement houses such as the Hull House and others like it
where newly arriving immigrants could get food and water and basic necessities to transitioning into

Nonviolent Social Change
Social climate change is something that people are very hesitant to talk about. The reactions you might
receive for feeling a certain way towards social change are enough that many choose to not act upon
it. If social change was something that could easily be achieved in American history, or history in
general, would not be so significant. There were several activists and authors who chose to speak out
on their beliefs of social change. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is known for his peaceful protests,
speeches, and overall achievements in gaining equality for African Americans. Henry David Thoreau
wrote a famous piece called Civil Disobedience, in which he wrote about protesting the government.
Another very prominent activist is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhi is famous for his practice
of passive resistance. He developed this practice himself and from this, achieved remarkable things for
South Africa. One mass social movement that should be considered is the movement of the Freedom
Riders. Although they were met with much hardship, they stood for what they believed in. After
reading works by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Henry David Thoreau, as well as studying activists
such as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and the Freedom Riders movement, I believe that social
climate change is possible and can be achieved in today s society.
There is absolutely a possibility for social climate change in today s society. Racism has always been a

The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find
The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find
I feel that the Grandmother in the story A Good Man is Hard to Find suffers from psychological
conditions. She does not care at all about anyone but herself. I feel that she may even be narcissistic. It
is ironic because she would be expected to look out for her family. The Cambridge Dictionary defines
narcissism as too much interest in and admiration for your own physical appearance and/or your own
abilities It is ironic because she would be expected to look out for her family, however in reality she
only really looks out for herself. She shows how self centered she really is many times throughout the
story. She displays a complete lack of regard for what anyone else ... Show more content on

According to the Miriam Webster dictionary self centered is being ?concerned solely with one s own
desires, needs, or interests? or being ?independent of outside force or influence?. The grandmother is
certainly guilty of both. The grandmother was like a child she would do anything she possibly could to
get what she wanted. She showed no regard for the people who love her. Although it was unintentional
it is hard not to blame everything that went wrong in the story on the grandmother. She was the cause
of all of the tension in the car; she was also the one who wanted to go up the side roads. Of not for the
grandmother the cat would not have been in the car so they probably would not have crashed. Once
they confronted the Misfit she still did nothing to help save her family. She showed them no regard
and just looked out for herself.
The grandmother is a very immature woman. She acts as if she has not properly developed socially or
morally. She shows no concern for anyone else?s opinion or authority. She makes her decisions based
solely on what she would like to do. She will do anything it takes to make sure that everything goes
her way. For example she completely fabricated a story about her house in order to get them to drive
up the side roads. Her attitude seams to have been the primary cause everything that went wrong
throughout the whole story. The only person she showed any emotion to

A Brief History Of The Mayan Civilization
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MAYAN CIVILIZATION Michael Costa History 157: History of Latin
America May 8, 2015 Mayan civilization peaked too early to impress the Spanish in the manner of the
Inca and Aztec empires. The great Mayan ceremonial centers visited by modern tourists were all in
ruin when the Spanish arrived in the 1500s. In fact, the highpoint of Mayan imperial organization was
almost a thousand years earlier. Mayan city states were located in high mountains, in densely forested
tropical lowlands, and on the arid Yucatán peninsula. Like the Mexicas (and other indigenous people
of central Mexico), the Maya built stone pyramids, but they did not dedicate any to human sacrifice.
Mayan cities contained ball courts where opposing teams tried to get a rubber ball through a stone
hoop. The game was not a sport, but a ritual, and often a matter of life and death. Mayan writing,
composed of symbols called glyphs, was the most elaborate created by any indigenous civilization. In
an attempt to eradicate Mayan indigenous religious belief, the Spanish conquistadors burned large
collections of Mayan writings. The Mayan language lives on today, but its linguistic fragmentation
mirrors the political fragmentation of the city states. Modern Mayan is a family of languages, rather
than a single language. Quiché and Mam, two modern Mayan languages, are no more alike than
English and German or French and Italian. Life was good to those lucky

Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis
Beginning a theme of taking older films and recreating them in his own style, Planet of the Apes was
based off Pierre Boulle s 1963 novel and a 1968 film version. The premise was about an American
man that landed on a planet ruled by apes, which was released in 2001. Although the film has a rather
shaky reputation, it forever changed Burton s life. While filming, actress Helena Bonham Carter, who
was playing one of the lead characters, caught Tim s eye. The two would later start a professional
relationship, with her starring in many of his films like Depp, as well as a personal relationship.

Personally, I believe the reason is the same as to why so many people love him and his films. He s
different, and in a very good, yet odd way. Nobody has really seen anything like what he has
envisioned and brought to the table. Not only is he extremely unique, but he is also very relatable to
anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or that they were weird or even rejected by the world. In this
way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world
imaginative. Honestly, Burton is my all time favorite director, and for the same reasons as anyone else,
I can identify with his art. One person s craziness is another person s reality he has said. Not all of his
work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you
feel just a little bit transported to another world. He has transformed modern cinema with his
Burtonesque style and has also inspired many other directors, actors, artists, films, and shows. He s
also given actors dozens of opportunities to start up and expand their careers. Maybe his films aren t
everybody s cup of tea , but there s just no denying his glittering talent. It is inspiring to see someone
come from such a rough beginning to come out on top, giving hope to many. Tim Burton has truly left
his stamp on the world of film, as I believe to be one of history s best directors, and changed the world
of cinema and art

Since my game cost only one ticket to play, and the lowest possible amount of tickets that you could

How Junk Food Can End Obesity By David Freedman
In his article How Junk Food Can End Obesity, first published in 2013, David Freedman interprets
how junk food can end obesity. Some people talk about junk food as one of the worst possible
substances to put inside the human body. The number of calories, carbohydrates, and sodium in junk
food products is massive, but health food can be just as bad. In David H. Freedman s article, How
Junk Food Can End Obesity, he explains the many pros and cons to both junk food and health food.
Throughout the article, there are many uses of repetition, contrast, anomalies, and literary devices that
all work together to correlate Freedman s point. Even though Freedman states that junk food could not
end obesity, it is evident that Freedman believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freedman shares the experience he had in a health food eatery where he got an apple blueberry kale
carrot smoothie juice combination... at 300 calories (Freedman, 2013, p. 1). He later mentions a
delicious blueberry pomegranate smoothie that rang in at a relatively modest 220 calories that he got
from a fast food eatery (Freedman, 2013, p. 2). The point Freedman was attempting to illustrate was
that just because an item is from a health food eatery does not necessarily mean that it is healthier than
basically the same product at a fast food eatery. Peter A. Georgescu points out that science has
developed healthful ways to create food that is just as appetizing and satisfying as junk food
(Georgescu, 2013, p. 2). Therefore, this becomes a compromise where food is: cheaper, healthy, and
scrumptious all in one. In his article, Freedman seemingly relies upon a repetitive use of calories
throughout this article to illustrate his point.
Another major point Freedman uses to support his opinion, is that even stores that sell precisely
wholesome foods are not always healthy. One snack he selected had six times as much fat as it does
protein, along with loads of carbohydrates (Freedman, 2013, p. 6). Freedman uses comments just like
the one stated previously throughout the article, as well as conflicting statements. The author, further
writes about the difference between a supermarket and a whole foods market. He asserts that he can

The Secret Scripture Analysis
Although the novel The Secret Scripture written by Sebastian Barry is constantly alternating between
past and present, the transition happens quickly and smoothly. This is due to the narrator s use of the
relationship with the past and what is happening during the present. What starts as the present bleeds
into the past through Roseanne s hidden biography. The way on page sixty, how she is in the past
remembering when her father was demoted to a rat catcher. Then page sixty one the reader is in the
present again, but it s not random. She is saying how clearly she remembers that day. Then on that
same page she jumps back to remembering how prideful her father was of his job in the cemetery. You
don t even realize that you stopped reading one recollection and have already gone into the other.

the beginning and up to the end. Only for him to wind up at the house she was excommunicated to.
Where he proceeded to find a rosebud from the bushes that she cared for, and taking it. Roseanne s
recount of her life is parallel with Dr. Greene s. Except Roseanne s view before is read before Dr.
Greene s. There is also two different stories from The Secret Scripture . Dr. Greene is reading Fr.
Gaunt s recollection of Roseanne s life. Which makes the reader question how trustworthy Fr. Gaunt is
as a source seeing as he wasn t there for half of the events and he was also strangely obsessed with her
life. Her sexuality mostly. This brings in the question of how true any of the recollections are.
Remembering the past is difficult for Roseanne. She is constantly second guessing

Analysis Of The Movie Mr. Essay
Mr. Bones is a story of a boy s account of his father s change of personality after joining a minstrel
show. The boy narrates the big contrast in the family dynamics as the father takes on an alternative
persona. The sudden change of personality causes the boy to doubt how his father really is. Mr. Bones
advocates the idea that we should not judge a book by its cover, as there is more to a person than what
we see. It also represents how everyone has feelings, and the desire to be heard and treated properly.
The author uses the minstrel show s songs, the Jim Crow laws and its stereotypical character Jim
Crow to symbolize the changes the character go through.
Mr. Bones revolves around a quiet dysfunctional family where the narrator describes that The quiet
household is often more turbulent than the household of the tyrant or the drunkard (Page 2). The
mother has full control of the household while the father can only listen to her constant nagging but he
always has a smile on his face. One day, his father introduces himself as Mr. Bones which is the father
s alternate personality. Mr. Bones often jokes and taunts even to his wife that makes his wife feel
smaller and more scared each day. It is interesting as that the narrator points out that the jokes his
father says are more than jokes (Page 13). These jokes are the father s way of telling the truth. For
example, the yellow mustard, which he calls mouse turd (Page 13), is tasteless and cheap. He also

The San Fault Earthquake Of San Francisco Essay
The San Andreas fault line has caused constant development nightmares for large urban areas such as
San Francisco as well as the other cities built on top of it. Fault lines are one of the side effects of the
earth s tectonic plates shifting that can result in devastating earthquakes. Some of the most devastating
earthquakes in our modern era have occurred along the San Andreas fault line due to a dense
population. The most notable and destructive earthquake on the San Andreas fault line occurred in San
Francisco in 1906. The reason this earthquake was so deadly was because of its magnitude and the
city s poor planning. This earthquake was a wakeup call for San Francisco and force the city to
revolutionize its knowledge on earthquakes and how to protect their city. Today San Francisco is one
of the most well prepared cities for an earthquake and has made great discoveries in earthquake safety
measures. The 1906 earthquake in San Francisco has drastically changed how the city has developed
its zoning and building code policies, and its earthquake research.
Yerba Buena (San Francisco) was founded June 29, 1776 by the Spanish after they discovered its

all sorts of group malfunctions and woes. Have you observed this dynamic in your own work, school,
church, or family groups?
Yes this dynamic appears in some schools where a child or any student for that matter is bullied or
singled out. Some peoples working conditions could possibly have a group malfunction as in co
workers can be racist to one another.

5. The stones are mentioned five times near the beginning of the story and then five or six times more
at the end. Why is their presence so important? What are the historical/biblical associations of stoning
? Do they apply in this situation?
The importance of stones being mentioned so much is the author is trying to keep the reader informed
that someone is going to get hurt or killed. Adding to that, the author never actually states what the
stones are supposed to be used for, that kept in mind; the reader can come to a realization at the end of
the story. The historical/biblical associations of stoning are when back in the old times, someone
persecuted of a crime or a non believer of a religion would be stoned to death. These associations
apply in this situation because that s what s happening but they do not make sense because the
individual being stoned has not committed any wrongdoing to be persecuted.

Essay On Effluent Discharge Requirements
3.0 EFFLUENT DISCHARGE REQUIREMENTS
The Environmental Quality Act (EQA) 1974 specifies two standards for effluent discharge: Standard
A for discharge upstream of any raw water intake, and Standard B for discharge downstream of any

Based on standard BOD measurement, the oxygen demand measured is usually influenced by the
following three (3) phenomena:
I. Oxygen demand by breakdown of soluble carbonaceous matter.
II. Oxygen demand by breakdown of suspended particulate carbonaceous matter.
III. Oxygen demand by oxidation of ammonia to nitrate by nitrifying bacteria present in the effluent
sample.
After undergoing biological treatment in the secondary reactor, residual soluble carbonaceous BOD
matter present in the effluent reduces in concentration to below 15 mg/L. Subsequently, nitrifying
bacteria populations tend to grow rapidly feeding on ammonia which is present in the partially treated
sewage. Nitrification may not be complete at levels of 5 mg/l of residual soluble carbonaceous
biodegradable matter. It depends on whether sufficient oxygen is available for the oxidation of
ammonia to nitrate. Hence, all BOD5 measurements shall adopt nitrification inhibition step to ensure
that the carbonaceous oxygen demand is reflected accurately in the overall BOD measurement.

Importance Of Conflict Resolution
A conflict is a disagreement between two individuals. A conflict resolution is both individuals having
an understanding and coming to an agreement on the conflict. The conflict can be resolved by both
parties having a perspective of the other point of views. According to, Bisno, H. (1988), Conflict,
arguments, and change are natural parts of our lives, as well as the lives of every agency, organization,
and nation. Conflict resolution is a way for two or more parties to find a peaceful solution to a
disagreement among them. The disagreement may be personal, financial, political, or emotional.
When a dispute arises, often the best course of action is negotiation to resolve the disagreement. The
goals of negotiation is to produce a solution that all parties can agree to, work as quickly as possible to
find this solution, and improve, not hurt, the relationship between the groups in conflict. Conflict
resolution through negotiation can be good for all parties involved. Often, each side will get more by
participating in negotiations than they would by walking away, and it can be a way for your group to
get resources that might otherwise be out of reach. What stood out to me during the reading were the
many different approaches of handling conflicts. Being a good listener is very important in resolving
conflict. Having effective communication skills is important .Making sound judgments and strategic

a violent period of instability emerged due to the repression of communist insurgencies and social
unrest by military regimes associated with economic elites. After the end of this period, the influence
of the Armed Forces in the political life declined and the defense budgets were reduced, under the

A Brief Note On The Problem Of Illegal Immigration
Corey Lambeth
Mrs. Gallos
English III
What are solutions to Illegal Immigration in the United States?
In this report I will be stating some solutions about illegal immigration. The problem about illegal
immigration is millions of illegal aliens cross our border and get in this country successfully. When
they get in the country they steal our jobs and pay not taxes as they live in this country. But the
president promises to us that they are improving the security of the border and no illegal aliens are
getting in this country unless they get legalized. But in this report I will state that our border is
ineffective and our population of 11 million immigrants is growing and not slowing down.
Regrettably, the government has consistently failed at this, leading to today s untenable situation with
over 11 million individuals unlawfully present in the U.S.. (Solutions 2014)
Problems about Illegal Immigration
The problems with illegal immigration are very serious. Millions of immigrants come to the United
States for job opportunities, which is perfectly fine if you get legalized but that s the problem. Over 11
million immigrants do not get legalized. If you were to deport the 30 million undocumented
immigrants in the United States that s going to cost you about 130 billion dollars. ( A Third Way on
Immigration). Which means they are not actual citizens and they get away with the things that every
American has to do.Illegal immigrants don t have to pay taxes because they

Bad Leadership Is Kodak
Kodak is a classic case of how bad leadership can lead to the downfall of a giant. Yes, a giant is what

And this frequent change in leadership gives an insight into the fact that the company lacked a

top. He was the CEO since then till 1994. $5.1 billion acquisition of Sterling Drugs in 1988 affected
Kodak heavily, and even Whitmore was let go in 1994 as higher management thought that he had been
too slow in cutting costs. After that Motorola Inc. star George Fisher succeeded him. Fisher was

Science and Religion
When you think of science and religion you automatically think that they are the polar opposite of one
another, and while yes they do tend to have conflicting sides to them, they actually have some things
in common. This goes without saying that they do have varying ideas on certain topics which will be
discussed. Of the plethora of different topics, we will be discussing the views of science and religion

will also discuss the variety of conflicting views of different religions. Many of these topics are
controversial and many religions will have different views, some may be violent, some peaceful,
whilst others may be indifferent. Regardless of the position that everyone takes we all just want to

science in many cases is stoic and homosexuality is not an exception, but regardless of the stoicism,

The Pros And Cons Of Lethal Autonomy
Lethal Autonomy is weaponized artificial intelligence. Regardless of the era, wars exist and the
weapons permeate the lives of humanity. Whether the conflicts are active or the ultimatums are
flaunted in the halls of great debate, wars are a current and future threat. Society is approaching a
waypoint by which humans will no longer fight against each other, but alongside and against machines
that possess volition. This issue has prompted the leading business owners and scientists to present a
ban against these killer robots to the United Nations in attempt to halt development of Lethal
Autonomy (LA). CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, Elon Musk, warns that We do not have long to
act. Once this Pandora s box is opened, it will be hard to close. We, therefore, implore the High
Contracting Parties to find a way to protect us all from these dangers (Downs). Technology like LA is
unknown, this is the main fear concerning weaponized Artificial Intelligence (AI). ... Show more

In reality, building something like the Terminator is not the goal of governments and tech companies
for LA. It is impossible to program a computer with all the possible outcomes in a scenario. The goal,
however, is to create a system of software that is independent of human decision making. Lethal
Autonomy works by weighing the cost of every decision and acting accordingly. Unlike human
intuition, Lethal Autonomy is intended to have multiple hosts streaming and updating new data from
its surroundings, with perfect information retrieval. With this technology, fleets of drones could be
operated by one artificial mind and be articulated with precision. Human exhaustion and PTSD will no
longer side effects from violent screen time, for the machine never tires or is affected by the horrors of
wars. The underlying fear is that with this rapidly accelerating and seemingly omnipresent knowledge
the machine could usurp human

  • 2. The United Nations Convention On Contracts The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sales of goods entered into force January 1 1988. Among the 79 states that have ratified or acceded to the treaty to date are Australia, Canada, the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, and Singapore. The Vienna Convention, as CISG is also known, was designed to systemise and rationalise international contracts in a particular region, drawing from a common legal framework. The CISG is divided into three substantive parts plus final clauses. (The 1980 UN Convention of Contract for the International Sale of Goods, 1990) WHEN DOES THE CISG APPLY? WHEN DOES IT NOT APPLY? Articles 1 through to 6 constitute Part I, Chapter I of the CISG, Sphere of Application . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scope of sales of goods governed by the treaty depends on the provisions already discussed, and on Article 2 which exclude the following transactions: 2(a) consumer purchases (unless the seller had no reason to know the goods were destined for personal or family use), 2(b) auctions, 2(c) execution or other sales under legal process, 2(d) sales of commercial paper, securities or currency, 2(e) sales of vessels, hovercraft or aircraft, and 2(f) sales of electricity. Furthermore, 3(a) sales of specifically fabricated goods for which a substantial part of the input materials are supplied by the buyer, and 3(2) contracts under which the preponderant part of the obligations of the supplier of goods consists in the supply of labour or other services are also improper transactions. ARTICLE 5 (The 1980 UN Convention of Contract for the International Sale of Goods, 1990) SUMMARY OF OTHER PARTS Articles 7 through 13, which make up Part I, Chapter II, General Provisions , serve as important guides for the interpretation of CISG, and for its application in concrete cases. These articles provide rules for determining the intent of parties to a contract, and address the often crucial issue of the extant to which customs and usages of a particular trade are binding. ... • 3. Generation Reserve Is An Important Factor In Generation Generation reserve is an important factor in generation planning or operating process, as discussed in the previous chapter, subsection 3.1. Traditionally, fixed percentage of the peak load is used as a reserve for planning purpose and another one for operating purpose. On solar generation system, both of generation and load are variable. This behavior is extremely confusing in appropriate reserve estimation. Solar PV power changes during the day, season and month. Moreover, clouds affects badly on PV generated power, as discussed in section 2. This part discusses new techniques of generation reserve estimation depending on a new reliability index called Clouds Effect On Load Loss or CEOLL. This index is inspired from traditional LOLP ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PDischarge: is the partial load power covered by storage discharge. PCharge: is the needed power for storage charging during sunshine time. Fig. 3.6 shows a typical case of solar radiation and estimating process of load curve level. Battery charging and discharging areas are denoted as A and B respectively. (a) (b) (d) Fig.3.6. Battery charge Discharge Demand loads. Clouds Effect On Load Loss CEOLL Loading capacity and reserve calculation are usually calculated from generating plant rated capacity. PV power plants have varying capacity according to expected solar radiation. Therefore, fixed loading level or constant reserve range can t fit varying behavior of PV power. This study propose new reliability index that defines appropriate reserve/ loading level monthly. Loading level is calculated according to related clear sky solar radiation. By using CEOLL index, reliable reserve level can be checked and adapted in case of cloudy weather. CEOLL can be represented mathematically as follows: CEOLL= ( ∑_k▒P_k *〖LOL〗_k*t_k ) / tt W/m2 (3) Where: CEOLL: is clouds effect on load loss index k: is the studied time interval per day, Pk: is probability for outage solar generation, 〖 LOL〗_k : is Loss Of Load from clear solar radiation ... • 4. Us Support And Agendas Within The Middle East US support and agendas within the Middle East have been extremely complicated in the last century. Starting with the backing of the Shah of Iran in the early 1950s to the present day conflict in Syria, there appears to be no decision without adverse secondary and tertiary effects. Since the Persian Gulf War, US policy has been fully supportive of the Arabs and Turks while limiting official support for the Kurds in Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. Nevertheless, unofficially, the US has fully supported the Kurds militarily through the establishment of long term partnerships between military forces. While always a point of contention with Turkey and the Government of Iraq (GOI), the recent increase in support for Kurdish forces in Syria to oppose the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) brought the issue to the forefront. The time for US policy to withhold support for the Kurds is past due to their critical role in the campaign against ISIL. The US attempted to establish a coalition amongst the Turks and the Arabs but this has largely failed to turn the tide of ISIL s advance. However, following the consistent successes of the Kurds advance wresting control of northeastern Syria away from ISIL, it is a foregone conclusion that the US requires an alliance with the Kurds if they wish to establish some semblance of stability in the Middle East. From the Mesolithic rolling of hucklebones, to the Mesopotamian invention of the six sided die, and finally to the Chinese invention of the card, not only did gambling survive through countless civilizations of ancient history, it evolved into a global phenomenon. Stakes on these games could range from Quadrans, the Roman equivalent of pennies, to betting an entire estate on a simple throw of the die. Interestingly, as in modern times, ancient peoples and civilizations had varying opinions of gambling. Some ignored it, some outlawed it, and some accepted it. Despite the numerous stances on gambling, one thing held true for all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But after the hunt, the hunters might cast bones to determine who went home with the most desirable cuts, (Schwartz, 7). Divination was only the beginning. The first civilization in the world, Mesopotamia, was also the first civilization to gamble. Mesopotamian fortune tellers filed down their hucklebones, originally used for divination, and marked them with insignia, taking the first steps toward a modern die (Schwartz, 8). Eventually, the Mesopotamians developed three styles of dice: a four sided pyramidal die, a refined version of the four sided astragali, and our modern day six sided die (Schwartz, 8). The earliest six sided die recovered dates back to about 3000 BCE (Schwartz, 8). The Arabic number system was not created until 700 BCE. Therefore, dice are about two thousand years older than numbers. Mesopotamians played a number of board games, one which might have been an ancestor of parcheesi, along with one that greatly resembled backgammon, and another called senet (Schwartz, 9, Wallenfels, 232). Five gaming boards dating from 3000 BCE have been found in the royal tombs at Ur (Rofe, 92). Oddly, despite countless artifacts and archaeological evidence, the Mesopotamians did not mention gambling in any of their surviving literature (Schwartz, 9). • 6. How Did Aristotle Obey The First Cause To Change Aristotle imagines an infinitely vast and eternally complicated universe, all under the control of a divine being. He states that the reason for the universe must be love because if God did not desire the universe, He would not allow the universe to exist. Through further observation, Aristotle then claims that a change must be caused to change. It is through these changes that all physical entities appear only temporarily. He then claims that there are four fundamental principles that describe all causes. The first cause is the material cause, which states that all objects have an immanent material that brings them into being. The material cause, formal cause, and final cause all rely on an omnipotent being. The final cause is the cause of the other causes, but if one were to suggest there was no ultimate purpose then the efficient cause would explain all naturalistic creations. I would suggest that there is an agent that causes the change. It is the light that reflects off a stump that makes the wood appear brown. It is the result of evolution which is caused by the procreation of the surviving that allows for human beings to exist. The material cause and formal cause can be explained by the efficient cause. I agree with the final cause, because it answers the purpose of the efficient cause. If things can only be brought to motion by an agent of change, then why bring the initial physical entity into motion if not for a purpose. If every object is caused to motion by a purpose it must in some way be contributing to a purpose that justifies its existence. Going back to Aristotle s initial argument, it is unreasonable that something could come out of nothing if not for a divine being with a desire for the Universe s existence. • 7. Anorexia And Bulimia Essay INTRODUCTION The rise in eating disorders has captured the attention of both medical and dental professionals. A dental hygienist may be the first professional to detect an eating disorder due to the oral complications that are associated with the condition (Foster, 2017). Eating disorders are described as a persistent disturbance of eating behavior or behavior intended to control weight, which significantly impairs physical health or psychosocial functioning (Fairburn Walsh, 2003). There are several types of eating disorders and sufferers may have a combination of disorders. Among eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia nervosa are the most common (The British Psychological Society, 2004). This review will discuss the psychological and behavioral traits associated with anorexia and bulimia nervosa, as well as the systemic and dental consequences. Research has shown, most cases of anorexia and bulimia nervosa begin during adolescence, with the growth of social media being linked to one of the causal factors (The British Psychological Society, 2004). There is some evidence suggesting roles of genetic, neurobiological and sociocultural factors as well (The British Psychological Society, 2004). Morbidity and mortality rates may be higher because individuals with eating disorders often deny the extent of their fasting, binge eating and purging behaviors (Steinberg, 2012). Lejuez et al., (2002) decided to reduce the possibility of Type 1 error by deciding beforehand (a priori) to only look at the adjusted number of pumps as the measurement for riskiness, yet they found that the number of explosions and unadjusted number of pumps produces similar results (p.79). A few interesting results were found in this first BART experiment. The first is that, correlations indicated that the adjusted number of pumps was not related to age or IQ for any of the balloon colors ( ps .05) ( Lejuez et al., 2002). The third limitation that was reported that our assessment of actual risk behaviors was less comprehensive, often relying on only a single measure or even on a single item (e.g., number of unprotected sexual encounters) (lejuez, et al., 2002, p. 82). The fourth reported limitation is that people were behaving cautiously on the task. Finally the BART only showed association with self reported real world risk behaviors from the blue balloons. Therefore, the restricted range of the yellow and orange balloons did not find the same relationship. Although there were some limitations to this study, overall, it showed the BART it a useful tool in measuring risk taking behavior in the lab. The BART was not designed to replace the existing self report measures; it is designed to tap into actual risk taking behavior that can be observed in the lab. The reactions you might receive for feeling a certain way towards social change are enough that many choose to not act upon it. If social change was something that could easily be achieved in American history, or history in general, would not be so significant. There were several activists and authors who chose to speak out on their beliefs of social change. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is known for his peaceful protests, speeches, and overall achievements in gaining equality for African Americans. Henry David Thoreau wrote a famous piece called Civil Disobedience, in which he wrote about protesting the government. Another very prominent activist is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhi is famous for his practice of passive resistance. He developed this practice himself and from this, achieved remarkable things for South Africa. One mass social movement that should be considered is the movement of the Freedom Riders. Although they were met with much hardship, they stood for what they believed in. After reading works by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Henry David Thoreau, as well as studying activists such as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and the Freedom Riders movement, I believe that social climate change is possible and can be achieved in today s society. A Brief History Of The Mayan Civilization A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MAYAN CIVILIZATION Michael Costa History 157: History of Latin America May 8, 2015 Mayan civilization peaked too early to impress the Spanish in the manner of the Inca and Aztec empires. The great Mayan ceremonial centers visited by modern tourists were all in ruin when the Spanish arrived in the 1500s. In fact, the highpoint of Mayan imperial organization was almost a thousand years earlier. Mayan city states were located in high mountains, in densely forested tropical lowlands, and on the arid Yucatán peninsula. Like the Mexicas (and other indigenous people of central Mexico), the Maya built stone pyramids, but they did not dedicate any to human sacrifice. Mayan cities contained ball courts where opposing teams tried to get a rubber ball through a stone hoop. The game was not a sport, but a ritual, and often a matter of life and death. Mayan writing, composed of symbols called glyphs, was the most elaborate created by any indigenous civilization. In an attempt to eradicate Mayan indigenous religious belief, the Spanish conquistadors burned large collections of Mayan writings. The Mayan language lives on today, but its linguistic fragmentation mirrors the political fragmentation of the city states. Modern Mayan is a family of languages, rather than a single language. The stones are mentioned five times near the beginning of the story and then five or six times more at the end. Why is their presence so important? What are the historical/biblical associations of stoning ? Do they apply in this situation? The importance of stones being mentioned so much is the author is trying to keep the reader informed that someone is going to get hurt or killed. Adding to that, the author never actually states what the stones are supposed to be used for, that kept in mind; the reader can come to a realization at the end of the story. The historical/biblical associations of stoning are when back in the old times, someone persecuted of a crime or a non believer of a religion would be stoned to death. These associations apply in this situation because that s what s happening but they do not make sense because the individual being stoned has not committed any wrongdoing to be persecuted. 6. Based on standard BOD measurement, the oxygen demand measured is usually influenced by the following three (3) phenomena: I. Oxygen demand by breakdown of soluble carbonaceous matter. II. Oxygen demand by breakdown of suspended particulate carbonaceous matter. III. Oxygen demand by oxidation of ammonia to nitrate by nitrifying bacteria present in the effluent sample. After undergoing biological treatment in the secondary reactor, residual soluble carbonaceous BOD matter present in the effluent reduces in concentration to below 15 mg/L. Subsequently, nitrifying bacteria populations tend to grow rapidly feeding on ammonia which is present in the partially treated sewage. Nitrification may not be complete at levels of 5 mg/l of residual soluble carbonaceous biodegradable matter. It depends on whether sufficient oxygen is available for the oxidation of ammonia to nitrate. Hence, all BOD5 measurements shall adopt nitrification inhibition step to ensure that the carbonaceous oxygen demand is reflected accurately in the overall BOD measurement. 3.3 HEAVY METALS (AAS) The term heavy metal refers to any metallic chemical element that has a relatively high density and is toxic or poisonous at low concentrations. The conflict can be resolved by both parties having a perspective of the other point of views. According to, Bisno, H. (1988), Conflict, arguments, and change are natural parts of our lives, as well as the lives of every agency, organization, and nation. Conflict resolution is a way for two or more parties to find a peaceful solution to a disagreement among them. The disagreement may be personal, financial, political, or emotional. When a dispute arises, often the best course of action is negotiation to resolve the disagreement. The goals of negotiation is to produce a solution that all parties can agree to, work as quickly as possible to find this solution, and improve, not hurt, the relationship between the groups in conflict.
