Little Fish Research Paper
Little Fish There s a river on the edge of Missouri where my family and I camped. My uncle
called it The ole Roarin River because the river was always impossibly full of life and
movement. My cousin and I decided, on the edge of daybreak, that we should take a swim. We
jumped in and my petite self started to drift quickly downstream. My cousin yelled and motioned
for me to swim. I was so scared that I might drown but the internal fire in me was fueled by the
terrifying and dire situation. I made it to the edge of the river and climbed out yelling and jumping
because I had done what I never thought was possible. I fought the current. Here I am years later,
from my head to my toes I am brimming with uniqueness. The significance of that... Show more

She went out one day with the intent of getting a job and doesn t come home without one. Her
new job at Vista Health was brutal and she often came home with bruises from he nearly insane
patients she had to deal with. The job was very demanding and she had to work over night.
Thankfully, my dad was home during the evenings to be with us and on very rare occasions, he
would cook us a meal called Shoyu Chicken . My mom decided to take some of the chicken to
work for lunch; people caught a whiff of it and asked her about it. She explained that it was my
dad s one specialty meal he learned after living on Hawaii for 17 years. The workers offered to
pay her for some of the chicken and it started to become a normal thing. The growing demand for
the chicken had given my mom and dad the idea to open a restaurant. Thus Hawaiian Brians was
born. This sparked a new era in my life and inspired me to keep moving forward to support my
family in the jump from bankruptcy to brick and mortar restaurant. This gave us a fresh start in
life. There would be more on the plate now not for just for my family but for me as well. We
eventually pulled out of bankruptcy because of the booming success of the business. I was given
opportunities that exceeded my expectations in youth. I got to go meet my family in Hawaii and
learn more about college, actually getting to consider it now having the money to pay for it.

My High School Experience In My Middle School
As I exited middle school, it wasn t a smooth transition. In fact, it was more like the ending scene
from Titanic when everyone is jumping ship, hoping that they wouldn t die. Of course, I m over
exaggerating, but it felt exactly like that. I was Rose, a young Kate Winslet, clinging to a unhinged
door floating out to sea, praying for the best. I hoped, even prayed that high schoolwould be better
than my middle schoolexperience. That it would be better than getting beat up into corners and
getting called gay slurs. Now I don t want to write this essay, and have you feel bad for me. I m
completely fine. I transferred my self hate into eating chocolate covered almonds and peanut
butter. I m happy with myself, and that s all because of one experience from high school that
changed my life. Imagine me, a freshman in high school, walking to my third period for acting
class. I kind of resembled a mixture of Napoleon Dynamite and Patrick Star. I was so excited to
finally do some theatre. My middle school did not have a theatre department, so all the shows I
did were community run performances. I knew the drama department teacher personally before
entering high school, and he seemed incredibly nice and welcoming. This teacher was my third
period, and I couldn t wait to start class with him. Before I continue the story, I need to preface
something. In television and movies, there s always that one teacher that changes your life. For
example, look at Glee. Mr. Schuester is the

An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer
Cold as Heaven Judith Ortiz Cofer s poem Cold as Heaven is a very sweet interaction between a
granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the
poem, I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother
never experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced
heaven and she is curious. In lines 25 30: When her eyes return to me, I can see she s waiting to
hear more about the purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can
make yourself an angel by just lying down and waving your arms (Cofer). These lines describe
winter as a place where angels are made. It mentions that even when the snow touches you, it is a
feeling of purification. This symbolizes that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you.
The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death.
Cofer included the use of similes to allow the readers to make a connection to what she was
saying, so that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in
lines 6 7: the Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock (Cofer). The author is
comparing two unlike things, the sun and an alarm clock, however they have a similar connection.
The Caribbean sun is what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile
adds to the poem s meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is
warmth in her home in the Caribbean.
There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what
the author descriptively shared. The poem includes descriptions of where the grandmother lives
in the Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks
through the eyes of the granddaughter s comparison to winter. As I read through the poem
several time, I looked for some mention of Christianity. I found it in lines 1 2: Before there is a
breeze again before the cooling days of Lent, she may be gone (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian
belief that when you die you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma

The Ethics Of The Enron Scandal
The definition of ethics is living one s life according to right or wrong behavior both towards
others and themselves (Ghillyer, 2014). How a person derived to their beliefs of right or wrong
is a direct reflection of several factors such as; family upbringing, and religious dynamics. Each
of these characteristics plays a major role in the direct choices a person will make in their day to
day lives. While some people can stand by their personal beliefs regardless of the situation, there
are some who are heavily influenced by others.
However, in the business world, the influence of power and money has cost people their
livelihoods as well as compromised their self dignity on many levels. One highly publicized scandal
that many have known and read about is the Enron Scandal. The motive behind what a person will
do remains endless as it is seen in this unfortunate tale of lies and greed in one corporation. The
part that many question even to this day is when the story unfolded it was announced that several
people in high positions were all aware of the unethical practices being done but, all decided to
turn a blind eye. In the next few paragraphs, we will look at the events that led up to the fall of a
company that was at the height of its growth and how all of that would change within minutes.
Undoubtedly the Enron scandal will be one incident that will be spoken of amongst big
corporations and financial institutes for a long time. Many have asked the question, who was

Hatred In The Time Machine By H. G Wells
In his story The Time Machine, by H.G Wells begins with a group of Well s friends listening to
the Time Traveler talking about his theory that time is the fourth dimension. The Time Traveler
proved his theory by making a mini time machine and making it disappear. His group of friends
end up coming again, and find the Time Traveler not looking so well. That is when the Time
Traveler starts to tell his story.
Later on the Time Traveler finally had finally finished his last touches on the time machine, and
went into the future. The machine ends up stopping at the year 802, in a world with people called
Elio. When he first got there the Elio would give him fruit. Later on the Time Traveler explores the

notices that the individual family has disappeared and presumes this society to be a form of
communism. Even the names of the Morlocks and Elio we notice the difference. The word Eloi
itself sounds like the word elite, and Morlock is a perfect word to describe a cruel, ruthless ape like
creature. Everything about these two beings points toward the Time Traveler s theory that he is
at the top of civilization, where the two major classes of society have become so set in their
positions. As we later find out, there are two distinct classes, set in their ways to the point where
there is no social exchange, but it is not the Eloi who rule the Morlocks. However, Morlocks
simply use the Eloi as cattle, providing them with clothes and shelter as a farmer would provide
for his herd. At night, the Morlocks come from below the ground to wander the surface. They hunt
Eloi, which provide meat for the Morlocks . The Morlocks are deeply afraid of

Theories Of What Happened To The Dinosaurs
In this task I will be talking about What Happened to the Dinosaurs? . I will be discussing and
explaining two different theories about how the dinosaur became extinct and see what theory has
more evidence to prove that s how the dinosaurs became extinct.
My First theory is the Asteroid Impact Theory. I choose this theory because it has a lot of evidence
suggesting that this is one way that the dinosaurs became extinct. The asteroid that hit 65 million
years ago was approximately 6 15km in diameter, hit the earth with the force of five billion atomic
bombs. The crater of that asteroid was 180km in diameter, was found buried at Chicxulub in
Mexico in 1990 (Oxford Big Ideas, 2012). That Asteroid wiped out three quarters of a species of

Why Do Infant Reflexes
Infant Reflexes
Reflexes are the infant s most obvious organized patterns of behavior. A reflex is an unlearned,
involuntary, automatic response to a particular form of stimulation. A wide variety of reflexes are
seen in infants during the last four months of prenatal life and the first four months after birth.
Reflexes also occur subcortically, which means below the level of cortex of the brain. (282 MD)
Reflexive movements are therefore without direct involvement of the higher brain centers. Reflexes
are an important role to infants, they are used for protection, nutrition, survival and development of
voluntary movement. Reflexes are an interesting subject that I learned in my motor development
class this semester as well as in this lifespan development class. I found it fascinating that we as
humans use reflexes to survive and eventually they help us learn to function.
PART A:
Reflexes play apart in infant s everyday lives. In normal healthy infants, the infant reflexes typically
do not last much beyond their first birthday. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stereotypies are characterized by patterned, stereotyped, highly intrinsic, and apparently involuntary
movements of the legs, feet, arms, hands, torso, and head. (302 MD) Stereotypies are like reflexes
in that they are important for voluntary movement in later life. Stereotypies are often simple
extensions, flexions, and rotations that are repeated. Rhythmic kicking is an example when the
infant is in a supine or prone position. This is developmentally significant, because it precedes
voluntary movement in the legs, which contributes to walking in the future. Stereotypies are typical
during the first year of life. (302 MD) Reflexes and stereotypies are different in that stereotypies
stimuli is unknown and in reflexes the stimulus is

What Is The Theme Of Diaspora By Longin Lahiri
DIASPORIC WRITINGS OF JHUMPHA LAHARI WITH SPECIAL REFERENC TO
INTERPRETER OF MALADIES
ABSTRACT
Diaspora refers to the movement of the population from its original homeland. The word Diaspora
is a transliteration of a Greek word that means to sow throughout or to distribute in foreign lands or
scatter abroad. Diasporas are deracinated population leaving ethnic and cultural origin in a
motherland other than where they currently live. Their economic, social and political affiliations
cross borders of nations. Diaspora studies presume the existence of displaced groups of people
who retain a collective sense of identity. The writers of Indian Diaspora practice a variety of literary
forms and represent an extraordinary diversity of ethnicities, languages, and religious traditions.

All Diasporas are unhappy, but every diaspora is unhappy in its own way. Diaspora refers to
people who do not feel comfortable with their non hyphenated identities as indicated on their

The overview of these three programs and attaining them is optimal, essentially a cycle of
opportunity. By providing these services it develops a base for a long term goal of achieving self

Pathos In Nick Naylor
Evaluation
Nick Naylor is a lobbyist for cigarettes. He battles everyone who is anti cigarette. Mr. Naylor runs
into trouble in many different ways for defending the rights of smokers. Along the way, Nick
twists some words and becomes the hot topic on TV and in Hollywood. Nick defends against
many things thrown at him. Things such as a cancer boy, the Marlboro man and even the loss of
his job. Nick Naylor is effective and persuasive in argumentation. Mr. Naylor does a great job
displaying ethos, logos, and pathos. Each one of these appeals are important in the use of
argumentation. Mr. Naylor is also effective with fallacies, and even though what he is saying might
not be true, it is effective. At the beginning of the movie, Nick Naylor uses pathos. In the movie the
anti tobacco people tried to make Nick Naylor the bad guy. They brought out a boy that had
cancer and tried to make him look bad. Pathos specifically is trying to draw the emotion
sympathy out of the audience. The audience was then given an option on who to blame. The
person they chose was Nick. Effectively, Nick Naylor diverted the negative press away from him
and toward the senator s assistant. Even though Nick was being bashed by these people he
maintained his stance. One thing I noticed about Nick is that he always presents himself with a
smile and with a positive message. He effectively uses pathos by using positive vibes and then
drawing them out from the audience. Also at the beginning of the

Persuasive Essay On Rights Of Nature

Rights of Nature
We must take care of our environment by continually educating our youth on natural selection and
the four laws of ecology, and supporting environmental movements that recognize the rights of
nature.
Impacts of climate change are increasingly felt by Earth s inhabitants including us, humans. The
current warming, which is only one degree Celsius, has affected different ecological processes such
as species genetics, seasonal response, overall distribution, and even morphology (Hance). Species
are suddenly disappearing. A study conducted by PLOS Biology found that more than 450 plants

We still should maintain that the ecosystem consists of living species, which in their nature have
the right to evolve. Significantly, in 2008 Ecuador granted a statutory right on nature in which a
sustainable model of progress guarantees the conservation of biodiversity and the recovering
capacity of ecosystems.
For example, fish and other species in a river may be recognized as having the right to exist and
evolve (Martin). Ecologists are then pursuing legal protection of nature s right to evolve. This is an
appropriate response to Darwin s implications of natural selection. But why such law does not seize
the attention of the global audience?
Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina are the only countries, so far, which embrace the right of nature to
evolve (Laitos). Instead, we misuse natural resources which results in health issues and pollution
(Laitos). We also accelerate the nature s course to evolutionthrough artificial selection or selective
breeding.
Artificial selection gets in the development of nature, which in turn produces lesser quality of a
species. As Darwin puts it: How fleeting are the wishes and efforts of man! , How short his time,
and consequently how poor will his products be, compared with those accumulated by nature during
whole geological periods. (Martin)
In other words, we weaken the art of nature. We selfishly only look at our own interest. Our own

Information on Laissez-faire and Court Injuction
1. Court Injuction
2. Laissez faire
Recording to the Union County College Laissez faire an economic and political doctrine that holds
that economies function most efficiently when unencumbered by government regulation. Laissez
faire advocates favor individual self interest and competition, and oppose the taxation and regulation
of commerce. Leave it alone The concept came from the economic theories of Adam Smith, the
18th century Scot whose writings greatly influenced the growth of American capitalism. Smith
believed that private interests should have a free rein. As long as markets were free and
competitive, he said, the actions of private individuals, motivated by self interest, would work
together for the greater good of society. Smith did favor some forms of government intervention,
mainly to establish the ground rules for free enterprise. But it was his advocacy of laissez faire
practices that earned him favor in America, a country built on faith in the individual and distrust of
authority. Laissez faire practices have not prevented private interests from turning to the
government for help on numerous occasions, however. Railroad companies accepted grants of land
and public subsidies in the 19th century. Industries facing strong competition from abroad have
long appealed for protections through trade policy. American agriculture, almost totally in private
hands, has benefited from government assistance. Many other industries also have sought and

The War Of 1812 Was A Two Year Long War
The war of 1812 was a two year long war fought between the United States and Great Britain. The
war was triggered between the two nations over the issue of impressment of American soldiers, and
although Britain promised to stop, they continued to do so anyway, hence taunting the United
States into entering the war. Now although the Americans lost the war, they did win something as a
result of the two year battle and that was nationalism which later manifested itself in the country s
judicial decisions, culture, politics, and foreign policy.
After the war of 1812, Americans sought ways to better their country politically. Before the war,
American life was rural and the development of the country side was slow. However, after the war

With more wealth, more ideas were beginning to surface on how to better the American lifestyle
amongst the states; one of those ideas was The American System brought up by Henry Clay. The
goals of this system was to increase the country s wealth with an effective banking system, creating
a set of roads and canals throughout the country to unite the states and spread information further,
and do all that in correlation to another protective tariff placed on oversea trading. So as you can see
because nationalism manifested itself in American politics to unite the country even more, different
methods were proposed and carried out to better American lifestyle. Even when congress deemed
some methods unconstitutional, the states sought individual ways in which they could improve the
U.S like New York s construction of the Erie Canal. Nevertheless, the country began to undergo
positive changes as a result of the political nationalism rising in the country. Culture is a part of
everyday life and in the years to come after the war of 1812, nationalism would eventually manifest
itself in American culture as well. American culture was usually demonstrated or portrayed through
paintings, books, songs, and more. Now in order to grasp the concept of cultural nationalism, it s
important to realize that Britain and the United States have fought once before where the U.S. Came
out the victor. In the war of 1812, they fought against Britain and although

What Is Alcatraz Prison
Alcatraz Penitentiary harbored some of this country s worst criminals from 1934 until its closing
in 1963. This prison was located on Alcatraz Island, which was in the San Francisco Bay. It was
housed on this island so the prisoners would not be tempted to escape. This prison was shut down
because of the high costs to keep it running. Although many prisoners attempted to escape, the
prison claimed that all of them failed at it. Alcatraz was set apart and on an island, it was greatly
guarded because it once was a fort, and the inmates were only allowed outside for one hour each
day. Attempting to escape Alcatraz without a ride was extremely difficult. The water was really

Two brothers, and a fellow inmate disappeared and were never found. The prison reported that
they drowned in their attempt to cross the bay, but there has never been any evidence to prove
this theory. This attempt was in June of 1962, just a nine months before the prison closed its
doors. These prisoners escaped by crawling through a hole they dug in the walls of the prison,
and climbed up onto the roof. They used paper mache look alike heads and placed them in their
bunks to buy them time to escape. Supposedly, the men made a makeshift raft and paddles to
cross the bay. Since then the three men haven t been found. Altogether, Alcatraz Penitentiary was
a pretty tough prison to escape, and maybe that is why the government placed the worse
criminals there. Out of thirty six men who attempted to escape, only three went without being
captured. Over fifty years after its closing, Alcatraz is still the most infamous prison of this
country. This prison is so popular that it receives over 1.3 million visitors each year, and it s one
of San Francisco s biggest tourist attractions. While this prison is said to be inescapable that s
mostly to do with the government trying to keep its reputation up. Being that the prison open for
nearly thirty years and only three prisoners were said to escape, it could be considered

The Revitalization Of Endangered Languages
Did you know that linguists have estimated that around 50% of the world s estimated 6,000
endangered languages will become extinct within the next century (Hale et al. 6)? Languages are
classified as endangered when a population of fluent speakers begin to decrease with no expected
growth. Linguists go on expeditions in an attempt to revitalize these endangered languages. It is
important for the revitalization of endangered languages because they create diversity, express
identity, hold history, create human knowledge and are interesting (Crystal 41). Levels of
revitalization of languages by linguists should be dependent on the willingness of the speakers to
participate, the survival rate of various languages and the availability of resources provided from
outside the community; they can help revitalize languages through documentation, assist speakers
in developing community based programs, and increase awareness once the project is finished.
Collaboration from speakers is crucial in revitalizing a languagebecause the speakers make up its
culture and language. When linguists travel to foreign areas for research in endangered languages,
they are considered outsiders the moment they step foot onto the land because foreign visitors
attract a great deal of attention as a result of the wealth, power, and privilege they are felt to
represent (Dobrin 44). Speakers view this relationship as an outsider insider conflict because

has been passed down as early as the Muromachi Period which is around the 14th 15th century.
The story originates back to chinse folklore, while no one knows who the exact creator of the
story Baku is we do know that it has been an oral tradition in the Japanese and Chinse culture.
While it is a story, Baku has also made appearances in Japanese anime and manga. The monster of

Essay about SUMMERTIME AND SPRING RAIN
SUMMERTIME AND SPRING RAIN
Upon first sight, it appears that John Sloan s Spring Rain and Edward Hopper s Summertime only
common characteristic is that they are both oil paintings on canvas. Spring Rain, from the school of
Impressionistic art, was painted in 1912. Summertime, which possesses a simplified, schematic
style, was created over thirty years later, in 1943. Therefore, there are extreme differences in the
two artists technique and style. However, despite these differences, the two painters works embody
the same theme: They are both scenes of urban realism characterized by isolation and loneliness.
John Sloan s painting depicts a dismal view of municipal life. The painting s gloominess is
achieved most effectively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pale yellow can be detected in the window shades, in the floor on the staircase and in the woman s
hat. In order to contrast the yellow, Hopper uses a very light, whitish blue in the curtains and in the
woman s dress. The fact that the woman s dress is white, with a hint of blue, suggests that the
woman is almost, but not quite pure.
Another compositional style that creates despondency in the paintings is Sloan and Hopper s line
usage. Hopper uses strong verticals, horizontals, and diagonals. These lines form simple, large
geometric forms. This preciseness gives the architecture a sense of depth and perspective. There is
also a stark play of light and shadow in the architecture of the building. All of these elements make
the building s architecture extremely realistic.
In contrast, John Sloan heavily uses curvy, S shaped lines in Spring Rain, for example, in the trees
and in the shape of the woman s body. The path of the top lines on the park benches gives the
painting perspective, drawing the viewer s eye to the background. The background of the painting
uses the technique of pointillism, the specific arrangement of paint splotches. This technique also
helps to give the painting texture in the tree branches and leaves.
Even though both painters use different line styles, both styles trigger similar emotional effects in
the viewer. For example, Sloan s contoured lines give the painting a sense

Nursing Home Suicide
Many nursing home residents, including the elderly residents at Hoosier Christian Village, struggle
daily with symptoms of situational depression, anxiety, and various mental illnesses brought on by
inactivity, decline in physical and mental competence, and the unavoidable confrontation with
death. In addition, many residents are admitted to the residence because of previous mental
illnesses; therefore, future development or recurrence of these diseases is nearly inevitable.
Studies at several universities worldwide have concluded that the assertion of youth in local
assisted living residences has aided tremendously in battling these mental illnesses. They have also
conducted research that infers that youth involvement with the elderly in their communities can
combat the persistence and development of depression. Therefore, baking cookies and donating
them to the Hoosier Christian Village can be exceedingly beneficial to the residents. These
cookies would allow the idea of bringing the outside world in and help defeat feelings of

What is ethical and unethical when it comes to information gathering on a group of people or an

What Is Elie Wiesel s Role In Night
Imagine being one of of five hundred thousand jews that survived the mass murdering of over 7

death was just on the tip of his nose during the duration of being in camps and getting transferred
numerous times. In the novel Night the book goes over the whole experience of the holocaustdown
to the bare bone from a first person point of view, the author Elie Wieselwas really able to grasp
how things were to go down during the holocaust and how almost everybody was mistreated. Some
may believe that Elie s faith in god is what kept him alive during his time in the concentration
camp; however such as physical and emotional support he got from his dear father more strongly
proves that the relationship with his father is actually what kept him alive.

The acquired land in this historical purchase proved to far outweigh what most Americans at the

that the Louisiana Purchaseinfluenced the evolution of American were the expeditions of Louis and

The End of Easy Everything
One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals
and commodities. Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation
from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the
supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael
Klare.
Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly,
companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of
oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil
wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper:
which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and
should not be permitted.
Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and
exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources
become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the
market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These means may cause
several problems, which may include;

towards prevention . Using your understanding of criminology and the reasons why people commit
crime; provide a recommendation on what action you think the government should take to prevent

Speculation has been raised about whether incarceration is effective for criminal offenders. When
an offender goes against the law, it has been argued that they must take a social debt . Therefore,
they are sent to prison to protect the public community, and to be punished. This solution hopefully

And our study shows that incentives for graduation and parent training are the two things that work
. The offender(s) and the stakeholders should take this quote into consideration, as they would
discourage incarceration. This would reduce the likelihood of crime being committed. If this
solution is eventually taken into consideration by the government, there will be a dramatic
reduction in crime.
Furthermore, crime policies should turn away from incarceration as it is extremely expensive
compared to rehabilitation and crime prevention programs. It is evident that more and more
people are being incarcerated for committing crime each year. Therefore the government is
having to pay a large amount of money for the offenders to be imprisoned. Crime is currently
costing the Australian government around $32 billion per year. It is approximately $30,000 to
incarcerate an offender, however it is only $5,000 to treat an offender (Drug Policy Alliance,
2005). If this solution gets taken into place, it will negatively impact police officers as there will
be loss of jobs as their job is to imprison perpetrators. Another group of stakeholders that will be
negatively impacted are the victims of crime. As it is likely that only some offenders will be
incarcerated, the victims of crime will possibly be unpleased or stressed. However they must

Normally heart beat is measured in beats per minute bpm . Heart beat is the number of contractions
(heart beats) of heart in one minute.
Heart beat varies for everyone as listed follows :
Childhood : 120 bpm
`Adult male: 70 bpm
Adult female: 75 bpm
But the reference range is between 60 bpm (bradycardia) 100 bpm (tachycardia) for aged people.
Pulse rate is the direct way to measure heart rate, but it can vary when some heart beats do not have
much cardiac output. At that time heart rate may be higher than the pulse rate.
3.PACEMAKER
An external pacemaker that has a pulse generator to generate an extrinsic electrical impulse,

Interprofessional Care
Collaboration, within interprofessional teams, is fundamental in a maternity setting. The
framework of interprofessional care provides an avenue for women and their families, potentially
with complex needs, to receive holistic and individualised care (D Amour et al., 2009; The Royal
College of Midwives (RCM), 2014). RCM (2014) suggests that the responsibility of managing the
interprofessional relationships between specialist health care professionals, such as neonatologists,
belongs with the midwife. The reason for this is that the role of the midwife embodies the care of
women throughout their pregnancy, in order to create a level of continuity, in addition to
facilitating the client s primary care through the use of guidance and plans created... Show more

The incident occurred during an elective caesarean section, for a woman with type one diabetes
mellitus. Research has shown that maternal diabetes mellitus incurs an increased risk of neonatal
hypoglycaemia (Robson et al., 2014). In response to these findings, a neonatologist is required to be
present at the delivery of the fetus (Local Trust, 2015). Upon arrival of the neonatologist, a
thorough handover of the client s information, including past medical history, as well as neonatal
risk factors, was performed by the student. Following delivery, the infant was placed on the
resuscitaire and the initial neonatal assessment was completed by the neonatologist, as per Local
Trust policy (2016). The results of the assessment were satisfactory and no neonatal abnormalities
were identified; the neonatologist made the clinical decision to discharge the infant from the
neonatologists care. Within the subsequent ten minutes the infant s muscle tone and respiratory rate
reduced which prompted the student to transfer the infant back to the resuscitaire and raise the
alarm with the midwife, her mentor. The midwife proceeded to instruct the student to request a
neonatal emergency crash call broadcast. Once the neonatologist team arrived, they requested a
handover and glanced at the student, who at which point became flustered and unable to share the
necessary information, provoking the mentoring midwife to resume control of the situation. The
midwife was able to share the relevant information and subsequently aided the diagnosis of neonatal
hypoglycaemia. This was quickly treated and the infant was intubated and stabilised prior to being
transferred for further treatment and observation in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
Subsequently, the student suffered a reduced level of

Persepolis Themes
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a graphic memoir that reveals the life of a woman growing up in
pre and post Iran, as well as her experiences in Western countries. In this book, Marjane utilizes
historical events that affect her life during her upbringing in Iran. These include the oppression of
the Shah, as well as the rise and effects of the regime. These events integration into the story
showcase how they affect Marjane and the other citizens of her country. Additionally, these events
are important for the context and understanding that they grant readers unfamiliar with the text.
The revolution and fall of the Shah is one of the first events we see in the story. Satrapi shows us

Another historical event that we see is the rise and effects of the Islamic regime in Marjane s life.
This event is arguably the central issue that affects Marjane during her upbringing in Iran. Marjane
shows how the regime begins to control schools, and how this affects her life by separating her
from her friends (4, 3 4). We also see how the regime decides to close universities as they educate
future imperialists. (73, 1 3) This demonstrates the negative effects that the regime has on society,
as they prioritize Islamic values over education. The Islamic leaders portrayal shows them as upset
and bored, and are given much different facial expressions than those that Marjane sees as
intellectual (such as Uncle Anoosh (54/3) or Marjane s grandfather (23/8)). This imagery
communicates the backwards thinking of these leaders, and as such, also effectively communicate
Marjane s opinion of the leaders without needing to discuss it with text. Additionally, we see both
of Marjane s views: Marjane not understanding the veiling and separation (3/5) as well as Marjane s
depression over the closing of the universities (73/7). The text here illustrates her opinions on the
situations that she experiences, and the imagery allows us to see a visual representation of her basic
thoughts and emotions, which are well communicated. A final example of the regime s changes is
the difference between the fundamentalist and modern women

The Segregation Of South Afric An Outcome Of Colonialism,...
The existing pattern of manipulated schooling in South Africa can be considered an outcome of
colonialism, segregation and apartheid. In the early 1800s, the arrival of the British introduced the
first system of education in Africa. The indigenous people of Africa were exposed to schooling
under the provision of British missionaries. At this time, education was a means of spreading the
British language, imposing their religion and just a general mechanism for social control. Their
strategy was to civilize the black Africans and anglicize the white Afrikaners. And most of the
school establishments were mixed, serving whites coloreds and Africans. However, the Afrikaners
resisted European control in attempt to avoid becoming the lower... Show more content on

Education s role can be molding a person for their prescribed field of work, and that is exactly
what the whites conducted. They systematically programmed the Africans for work as cheap
unskilled laborers and thus left the superior roles in society for themselves to fill. Clear ethnic and
class stratification developed, and the government eventually adopted the view that Africans must
fund their own education, which continued throughout the apartheid. Between 1910 and 1948, per
capita expenditures on white education increased by 263% and African numbers in school
plummeted to about 30% (Johnson 1982). Once again, limiting education was a tool to shape
society for the benefit of one group the education of the White child prepares him for life in a
dominant society and the education of the black child for a subordinate society (Johnson 1982).
And in 1948, the Afrikaner National Party rose to power by an election victory, attaining further
governmental policy control. The aim of the National Party was to increase and rigidify the
segregationism imposed in the few years previous, and thus began the apartheid in South Africa. To
facilitate the separation of all ethnic groups the Bantu Education act was introduced in 1953. And in
combination with the National Education Policy Act of 1967, which stripped the provinces of most
of their control over white education and empowered the Minister of

Overview Of Alcoa Intalco Aluminum
Milestone 1: Overview of Alcoa Intalco Aluminum Works
This short paper will discuss a general overview of Alcoa Intalco Aluminum Works with different
aspects of the business in pertaining to either a preparation for a new product launch or new
method created specifically in the hope of reducing costs that will save the company, not just
money but the jobs of hundreds of employees currently employed there.
Brief History
Intalco Aluminum Corp., was the original name of AlcoaIntalco Works, which is an aluminum
refinery that is located in Ferndale, WA. It began smelter operation back in 1966 and owned
primarily by Alumax, Pechiney and Howmet. Most of it employees were and are union workers. In
1998, Alcoa Inc. and Alumax merged which created... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcoa created its aluminum using a process called Hall Herould through electrolysis since
aluminum is highly reactive, as I have mentioned before, and for this requires a high amount of
energy. A single aluminum plant uses as much electricity as the city of Tacoma. The company is
spending millions of dollars researching ways to use less power. It, however, still takes an
average of 16,232 kilowatt hours to turn out a ton of aluminum, if we are to compare to another
product, for instance steel would only need 77 for a ton. However, there is a reason to why Alcoa
Intalco Works stays purely with aluminum as Isaac Bonell, a writer for The Bellingham Business
Journal pointed out that Aluminum is needed to build infrastructure, to manufacture cars and
airplanes, to make high tech medical equipment and to package your favorite chilled beverage. In
the smelting industry, there is no shortage of customers. Last year, on August 2016, the facility
celebrated its 50th birthday in operation which was bittersweet because they were discussing
shutting down some of their potlines again which mean layoff of over 400 employees as well.
Unfortunately, energy crisis was not the only problem here but had to do with the global market
prices of aluminum which makes Intalco unprofitable.
Mission/Business: Aluminum
Act with Integrity. Operate with Excellence. Care for People.
At Alcoa, values are a simple reflection of who

Effects Of Inbreeding On Royal Families
To further investigate the inbreeding and its implications within royal families, studies have
been conducted regarding the Habsburg royal dynasty of Spain, which came to an end after the
demise of Charles II, a severely inbred individual. Charles II, known as El Hechizado (The
Hexed) was a severely disabled man who suffered from mental retardation, learning difficulties
and many health problems. He was short, he had a large head compared to his body size, he had
blood in his urine, he had difficulties chewing his food, and his two wives reported him to be
impotent (citation KIIFHKOBBL). He did not talk until 4 years of age and he did not walk until
he was 8 years old. He was also the victim of two recessive genetic disorders: combined pituitary...

It is such a striking feature in the Ptolemaic family that almost every scholar who had written about
Ptolemaic Egypt commented on the incest that took place between its family members (citation
PERIPD). The royal family resisted marriage with commoners or Egyptians with significantly
lower status and over time the Ptolemies began to abstain from exogamy altogether, marrying
within themselves. One of the main reasons of course, is because committing incest is a symbol
of power. There is also a cultural reason to it as well, derived from myths where the Greek
goddess Gaia (Earth) mated with her son Ouranos (Heaven) and brought order and structure out
of chaos. However, incestuous activity is mainly done to assert power and display dominance;
committing the taboo set the Ptolemies apart from ordinary standard rules of human behaviour
(citation PERIPD). There is also the desire to preserve the purity of royal blood and prevent it
from being tainted by commoners and outsiders. Finding a suitable and high status partner is
another reason to participate in inbreeding. With no other high status equivalent, the Ptolemies
turn to their own family members as they are of equal status and high rank and are sired from
the same high class individuals. There is again the cultural influence where in myths, gods marry
each other and because the Ptolemies considered themselves gods, incest was completely
acceptable. Another benefit to incestuous marriage is the control of the spread of genes. The
male has reproductive control over his wife therefore by marrying her he is able to counteract
possible rivals. The relative shares some of the same genes as the king, so by making her his
wife, the king is preventing her from siring offspring with possible rivals and passing on his genes
to outsiders

Student Motivation Of Student Observation
For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite
teachers from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for
7 years and teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her
classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through
the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used
different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and
classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids,
which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen
learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to
work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I
was actually able to watch the high schoolstudents interact with their elementary school buddies .
What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs.
Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over
to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every
transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew
exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school
also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations
can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and
expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she
expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day
the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class
functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her
students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. The next class I observed was

The Causes And Effects Of HIV And AIDS
HIV and AIDS are two diseases that have both been around for a while now but did not arrive in
the United States until the nineteen seventies. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus
that leads to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) if it is not treated within a certain
amount of time. Both diseases can be very harmful to the body, and they are not hard to catch. HIV
spreads from others through a sexual intercourse but is more likely to come from an unprotected
sexual intercourse. HIV is a disease that cannot leave the body, even after treatment. This disease
attacks our immune system, mainly our T Cells, which causes the immune system to not be able to
fight off infections. When the number of these cells decreases, it makes our bodies prone to other
infections. AIDSis the third and the most severe stage of HIV. If someone were to catch HIV and
AIDS, it could make a minor sickness deadly. There are three stages of HIV, and there are different
effects within each stage. The first stage is the Acute Primary Infection . Within the first, through
four weeks some will feel the symptoms of the flu or no symptoms at all. These symptoms include
having a fever, sore throat, body rash, swollen glands, headaches, stomachaches, joint aches and
pains, and muscle pains. These symptoms occur when the body is beginning to react to the virus.
The second stage of HIV is The Asymptomatic Stage. The person who is infected starts to feel better
within this stage. Without going

Interglacials Essay
The earliest inhabitants of Britain for whom there is compelling evidence are bands of hunters
living in Southern and Western England during the Hoxnian interglacial (about 380,000 to 400,000
BC). (Some very recent excavations of stone tools on the East Anglian coastline suggest human
presence as early as 700,000 years ago). However, as temperatures again dropped, Britain was
abandoned. Although there are signs of humanhabitation during later interglacials, it was not until
roughly 14,000 years ago that occupation became permanent. Some of the first things that
Mesolithic Britons did, were to wipe out the lion, the elephant, and the hippopotamus, and to
domesticate the dog. By about 6000 BC the melting of the ice sheet had created the English... Show

Around 2500 BC the Beaker people (originally from Spain) began to immigrate to Britain and
brought metal working skills with them. They made gold, copper and bronze implements and
ornaments. It was during the Bronze age (after 2500 BC) that circles of standing stones began to
be erected in Britain. By far the most famous is Stonehenge, but at least 900 stone circles
survived long enough to be recorded. Many stone circles were erected within existing henges
(i.e. circular earthworks consisting of a ditch and bank surrounding a central table). The ditch
was dug and the earthen bank built at Stonehenge far earlier around 3000 BC. The stones were
erected (and repeatedly moved) between 2500 BC and 1600 BC. By 55 BC the Romans had
tried to take Britain but unsuccessfully failed, as Julius Caesar retreated. Then one year later
Julius Caesar tried again to invade Brtain and succeeded. The Roman occupation only lasted a
few centuries by 400 AD the British freed the British Isles from Roman rule. By 1000 AD the
British Isles were separated into three kingdoms England, Whales, and Scotland. England united
Whales and England they also controlled what is now Ireland but Scotland was still it s own
country finally in 1707 the Act of Union was made where the English Parliament united England
and Scotland as a single country creating Great Britain. By 1750 the British were a strong empire
with colonies in the Americas, their main treasure was the Thirteenth Colonies. In 1756 the
French and Indian War was declared in America, which made a war of French Folk, and an Indian
tribe against the British Colonies and Britain and some helpful Indians. In 1763 Britain and France
signed a treaty called the Treaty Of Paris which ended the war giving Britain most of France s
American lands, but the colonists were not happy and then in 1775 the colonists rebelled their

In September 1993, Huizenga proposed a $4.7 billion merger with media giant Viacom Inc. The
merger did not prove to be fruitful. By April 1994, Blockbuster s and Viacom s stock had
tumbled dramatically. The failure of the merger caused disdain in the organization, beleaguered
for financial losses and lack of clearly defined leadership, Huizenga eventually stepped down as
CEO in 1994. Over the next few years Steven Berrard, took over as President and took the
company on a terrible trajectory focusing on major expansion. He only lasted for 2 years in the
organization and Bill Fields in March 1996. Fields wanted to transform the image of the
organization, but also failed. 1996, Blockbuster s worth was estimated at $4.6 billion which is half
the value it had thirteen years prior. Blockbuster could not develop a clearly defined path for
excellence and the infrastructure was lacking; this was foretelling of the future. BhidГ© discusses
that an organization s capacity to execute its strategy depends on its hard infrastructure its
organizational structure and systems and on its soft infrastructure its culture and norms. (BhidГ©,
1999) without stability, the company was poised for long term failure. It appeared that in
Blockbuster s hankering for growth, a strong and strategic organizational infrastructure was lacking.
Blockbuster did not have a stable in structure of leadership and management to sustain itself. This is

certainly apart of the efforts carried out at the time. During this there was friendly fire on part of
the bombers flying overhead. This allowed the US armor to head south to Tessy after Operation

  • 2. Little Fish Research Paper Little Fish There s a river on the edge of Missouri where my family and I camped. My uncle called it The ole Roarin River because the river was always impossibly full of life and movement. My cousin and I decided, on the edge of daybreak, that we should take a swim. We jumped in and my petite self started to drift quickly downstream. My cousin yelled and motioned for me to swim. I was so scared that I might drown but the internal fire in me was fueled by the terrifying and dire situation. I made it to the edge of the river and climbed out yelling and jumping because I had done what I never thought was possible. I fought the current. Here I am years later, from my head to my toes I am brimming with uniqueness. The significance of that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She went out one day with the intent of getting a job and doesn t come home without one. Her new job at Vista Health was brutal and she often came home with bruises from he nearly insane patients she had to deal with. The job was very demanding and she had to work over night. Thankfully, my dad was home during the evenings to be with us and on very rare occasions, he would cook us a meal called Shoyu Chicken . My mom decided to take some of the chicken to work for lunch; people caught a whiff of it and asked her about it. She explained that it was my dad s one specialty meal he learned after living on Hawaii for 17 years. The workers offered to pay her for some of the chicken and it started to become a normal thing. The growing demand for the chicken had given my mom and dad the idea to open a restaurant. Thus Hawaiian Brians was born. This sparked a new era in my life and inspired me to keep moving forward to support my family in the jump from bankruptcy to brick and mortar restaurant. This gave us a fresh start in life. There would be more on the plate now not for just for my family but for me as well. We eventually pulled out of bankruptcy because of the booming success of the business. I was given opportunities that exceeded my expectations in youth. I got to go meet my family in Hawaii and learn more about college, actually getting to consider it now having the money to pay for it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My High School Experience In My Middle School As I exited middle school, it wasn t a smooth transition. In fact, it was more like the ending scene from Titanic when everyone is jumping ship, hoping that they wouldn t die. Of course, I m over exaggerating, but it felt exactly like that. I was Rose, a young Kate Winslet, clinging to a unhinged door floating out to sea, praying for the best. I hoped, even prayed that high schoolwould be better than my middle schoolexperience. That it would be better than getting beat up into corners and getting called gay slurs. Now I don t want to write this essay, and have you feel bad for me. I m completely fine. I transferred my self hate into eating chocolate covered almonds and peanut butter. I m happy with myself, and that s all because of one experience from high school that changed my life. Imagine me, a freshman in high school, walking to my third period for acting class. I kind of resembled a mixture of Napoleon Dynamite and Patrick Star. I was so excited to finally do some theatre. My middle school did not have a theatre department, so all the shows I did were community run performances. I knew the drama department teacher personally before entering high school, and he seemed incredibly nice and welcoming. This teacher was my third period, and I couldn t wait to start class with him. Before I continue the story, I need to preface something. In television and movies, there s always that one teacher that changes your life. For example, look at Glee. Mr. Schuester is the ... • 4. An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer Cold as Heaven Judith Ortiz Cofer s poem Cold as Heaven is a very sweet interaction between a granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the poem, I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother never experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced heaven and she is curious. In lines 25 30: When her eyes return to me, I can see she s waiting to hear more about the purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can make yourself an angel by just lying down and waving your arms (Cofer). These lines describe winter as a place where angels are made. It mentions that even when the snow touches you, it is a feeling of purification. This symbolizes that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you. The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death. Cofer included the use of similes to allow the readers to make a connection to what she was saying, so that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in lines 6 7: the Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock (Cofer). The author is comparing two unlike things, the sun and an alarm clock, however they have a similar connection. The Caribbean sun is what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile adds to the poem s meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is warmth in her home in the Caribbean. There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what the author descriptively shared. The poem includes descriptions of where the grandmother lives in the Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks through the eyes of the granddaughter s comparison to winter. As I read through the poem several time, I looked for some mention of Christianity. I found it in lines 1 2: Before there is a breeze again before the cooling days of Lent, she may be gone (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian belief that when you die you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Ethics Of The Enron Scandal The definition of ethics is living one s life according to right or wrong behavior both towards others and themselves (Ghillyer, 2014). How a person derived to their beliefs of right or wrong is a direct reflection of several factors such as; family upbringing, and religious dynamics. Each of these characteristics plays a major role in the direct choices a person will make in their day to day lives. While some people can stand by their personal beliefs regardless of the situation, there are some who are heavily influenced by others. However, in the business world, the influence of power and money has cost people their livelihoods as well as compromised their self dignity on many levels. One highly publicized scandal that many have known and read about is the Enron Scandal. The motive behind what a person will do remains endless as it is seen in this unfortunate tale of lies and greed in one corporation. The part that many question even to this day is when the story unfolded it was announced that several people in high positions were all aware of the unethical practices being done but, all decided to turn a blind eye. In the next few paragraphs, we will look at the events that led up to the fall of a company that was at the height of its growth and how all of that would change within minutes. Undoubtedly the Enron scandal will be one incident that will be spoken of amongst big corporations and financial institutes for a long time. Many have asked the question, who was ... • 8. Hatred In The Time Machine By H. G Wells In his story The Time Machine, by H.G Wells begins with a group of Well s friends listening to the Time Traveler talking about his theory that time is the fourth dimension. The Time Traveler proved his theory by making a mini time machine and making it disappear. His group of friends end up coming again, and find the Time Traveler not looking so well. That is when the Time Traveler starts to tell his story. Later on the Time Traveler finally had finally finished his last touches on the time machine, and went into the future. The machine ends up stopping at the year 802, in a world with people called Elio. When he first got there the Elio would give him fruit. Even the names of the Morlocks and Elio we notice the difference. The word Eloi itself sounds like the word elite, and Morlock is a perfect word to describe a cruel, ruthless ape like creature. Everything about these two beings points toward the Time Traveler s theory that he is at the top of civilization, where the two major classes of society have become so set in their positions. As we later find out, there are two distinct classes, set in their ways to the point where there is no social exchange, but it is not the Eloi who rule the Morlocks. However, Morlocks simply use the Eloi as cattle, providing them with clothes and shelter as a farmer would provide for his herd. My First theory is the Asteroid Impact Theory. I choose this theory because it has a lot of evidence suggesting that this is one way that the dinosaurs became extinct. The asteroid that hit 65 million years ago was approximately 6 15km in diameter, hit the earth with the force of five billion atomic bombs. The crater of that asteroid was 180km in diameter, was found buried at Chicxulub in Mexico in 1990 (Oxford Big Ideas, 2012). That Asteroid wiped out three quarters of a species of earth ... • 10. Why Do Infant Reflexes Infant Reflexes Reflexes are the infant s most obvious organized patterns of behavior. A reflex is an unlearned, involuntary, automatic response to a particular form of stimulation. A wide variety of reflexes are seen in infants during the last four months of prenatal life and the first four months after birth. Reflexes also occur subcortically, which means below the level of cortex of the brain. (282 MD) Reflexive movements are therefore without direct involvement of the higher brain centers. Reflexes are an important role to infants, they are used for protection, nutrition, survival and development of voluntary movement. Reflexes are an interesting subject that I learned in my motor development class this semester as well as in this lifespan development class. I found it fascinating that we as humans use reflexes to survive and eventually they help us learn to function. PART A: Reflexes play apart in infant s everyday lives. In normal healthy infants, the infant reflexes typically do not last much beyond their first birthday. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stereotypies are characterized by patterned, stereotyped, highly intrinsic, and apparently involuntary movements of the legs, feet, arms, hands, torso, and head. (302 MD) Stereotypies are like reflexes in that they are important for voluntary movement in later life. Stereotypies are often simple extensions, flexions, and rotations that are repeated. Rhythmic kicking is an example when the infant is in a supine or prone position. This is developmentally significant, because it precedes voluntary movement in the legs, which contributes to walking in the future. Stereotypies are typical during the first year of life. What Is The Theme Of Diaspora By Longin Lahiri DIASPORIC WRITINGS OF JHUMPHA LAHARI WITH SPECIAL REFERENC TO INTERPRETER OF MALADIES ABSTRACT Diaspora refers to the movement of the population from its original homeland. Diasporas are deracinated population leaving ethnic and cultural origin in a motherland other than where they currently live. Their economic, social and political affiliations cross borders of nations. Diaspora studies presume the existence of displaced groups of people who retain a collective sense of identity. The Hispanic Immigrant Integration Program Numerous leaders have been stepping up by establishing and incorporating their compassion to tackle on precarious causes and generating a thread of beneficial acts that serves others needs. The willingness and boom of passion are evidently shared, witnessed, or undergone a tragic set of events. Evidently, inspiration and hope developed in means to prevent or reduce a grievous set of acts that prey on groups of people. For instance, my compassion lies with my culture and the various social challenges my foreign born family members, friends, and community struggled in the past. By providing these services it develops a base for a long term goal of achieving self sufficiency and out of poverty. However, the accessibility of these beneficial resources may be difficult to obtain based on eligibility. New ideas that may help improve or reduce disparities in future programs can begin by concentrating on and expanding educational resources. For instance, a program that holds educational sessions on a monthly base, targeting communities, informing families of available resources and assisting with the application process. • 13. Pathos In Nick Naylor Evaluation Nick Naylor is a lobbyist for cigarettes. He battles everyone who is anti cigarette. Mr. Naylor runs into trouble in many different ways for defending the rights of smokers. Along the way, Nick twists some words and becomes the hot topic on TV and in Hollywood. Nick defends against many things thrown at him. Things such as a cancer boy, the Marlboro man and even the loss of his job. Nick Naylor is effective and persuasive in argumentation. Mr. Naylor does a great job displaying ethos, logos, and pathos. Each one of these appeals are important in the use of argumentation. Mr. Naylor is also effective with fallacies, and even though what he is saying might not be true, it is effective. At the beginning of the movie, Nick Naylor uses pathos. In the movie the anti tobacco people tried to make Nick Naylor the bad guy. They brought out a boy that had cancer and tried to make him look bad. Pathos specifically is trying to draw the emotion sympathy out of the audience. The audience was then given an option on who to blame. The person they chose was Nick. Effectively, Nick Naylor diverted the negative press away from him and toward the senator s assistant. Even though Nick was being bashed by these people he maintained his stance. One thing I noticed about Nick is that he always presents himself with a smile and with a positive message. He effectively uses pathos by using positive vibes and then drawing them out from the audience. Also at the beginning of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impacts of climate change are increasingly felt by Earth s inhabitants including us, humans. The current warming, which is only one degree Celsius, has affected different ecological processes such as species genetics, seasonal response, overall distribution, and even morphology (Hance). Significantly, in 2008 Ecuador granted a statutory right on nature in which a sustainable model of progress guarantees the conservation of biodiversity and the recovering capacity of ecosystems. For example, fish and other species in a river may be recognized as having the right to exist and evolve (Martin). Ecologists are then pursuing legal protection of nature s right to evolve. This is an appropriate response to Darwin s implications of natural selection. But why such law does not seize the attention of the global audience? Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina are the only countries, so far, which embrace the right of nature to evolve (Laitos). Instead, we misuse natural resources which results in health issues and pollution (Laitos). We also accelerate the nature s course to evolutionthrough artificial selection or selective breeding. Artificial selection gets in the development of nature, which in turn produces lesser quality of a species. As Darwin puts it: How fleeting are the wishes and efforts of man! , How short his time, and consequently how poor will his products be, compared with those accumulated by nature during whole geological periods. Laissez faire Recording to the Union County College Laissez faire an economic and political doctrine that holds that economies function most efficiently when unencumbered by government regulation. Laissez faire advocates favor individual self interest and competition, and oppose the taxation and regulation of commerce. Leave it alone The concept came from the economic theories of Adam Smith, the 18th century Scot whose writings greatly influenced the growth of American capitalism. Smith believed that private interests should have a free rein. As long as markets were free and competitive, he said, the actions of private individuals, motivated by self interest, would work together for the greater good of society. Smith did favor some forms of government intervention, mainly to establish the ground rules for free enterprise. But it was his advocacy of laissez faire practices that earned him favor in America, a country built on faith in the individual and distrust of authority. Laissez faire practices have not prevented private interests from turning to the government for help on numerous occasions, however. Railroad companies accepted grants of land and public subsidies in the 19th century. Industries facing strong competition from abroad have long appealed for protections through trade policy. American agriculture, almost totally in private hands, has benefited from government assistance. Many other industries also have sought and received ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The War Of 1812 Was A Two Year Long War The war of 1812 was a two year long war fought between the United States and Great Britain. The war was triggered between the two nations over the issue of impressment of American soldiers, and although Britain promised to stop, they continued to do so anyway, hence taunting the United States into entering the war. Now although the Americans lost the war, they did win something as a result of the two year battle and that was nationalism which later manifested itself in the country s judicial decisions, culture, politics, and foreign policy. After the war of 1812, Americans sought ways to better their country politically. Before the war, American life was rural and the development of the country side was slow. However, after the war and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With more wealth, more ideas were beginning to surface on how to better the American lifestyle amongst the states; one of those ideas was The American System brought up by Henry Clay. The goals of this system was to increase the country s wealth with an effective banking system, creating a set of roads and canals throughout the country to unite the states and spread information further, and do all that in correlation to another protective tariff placed on oversea trading. So as you can see because nationalism manifested itself in American politics to unite the country even more, different methods were proposed and carried out to better American lifestyle. Even when congress deemed some methods unconstitutional, the states sought individual ways in which they could improve the U.S like New York s construction of the Erie Canal. Nevertheless, the country began to undergo positive changes as a result of the political nationalism rising in the country. This prison was located on Alcatraz Island, which was in the San Francisco Bay. It was housed on this island so the prisoners would not be tempted to escape. This prison was shut down because of the high costs to keep it running. Although many prisoners attempted to escape, the prison claimed that all of them failed at it. Alcatraz was set apart and on an island, it was greatly guarded because it once was a fort, and the inmates were only allowed outside for one hour each day. The prison reported that they drowned in their attempt to cross the bay, but there has never been any evidence to prove this theory. These prisoners escaped by crawling through a hole they dug in the walls of the prison, and climbed up onto the roof. They used paper mache look alike heads and placed them in their bunks to buy them time to escape. Supposedly, the men made a makeshift raft and paddles to cross the bay. • 19. The Revitalization Of Endangered Languages Did you know that linguists have estimated that around 50% of the world s estimated 6,000 endangered languages will become extinct within the next century (Hale et al. 6)? Languages are classified as endangered when a population of fluent speakers begin to decrease with no expected growth. Linguists go on expeditions in an attempt to revitalize these endangered languages. It is important for the revitalization of endangered languages because they create diversity, express identity, hold history, create human knowledge and are interesting (Crystal 41). Levels of revitalization of languages by linguists should be dependent on the willingness of the speakers to participate, the survival rate of various languages and the availability of resources provided from outside the community; they can help revitalize languages through documentation, assist speakers in developing community based programs, and increase awareness once the project is finished. Collaboration from speakers is crucial in revitalizing a languagebecause the speakers make up its culture and language. When linguists travel to foreign areas for research in endangered languages, they are considered outsiders the moment they step foot onto the land because foreign visitors attract a great deal of attention as a result of the wealth, power, and privilege they are felt to represent (Dobrin 44). • 21. Essay about SUMMERTIME AND SPRING RAIN SUMMERTIME AND SPRING RAIN Upon first sight, it appears that John Sloan s Spring Rain and Edward Hopper s Summertime only common characteristic is that they are both oil paintings on canvas. Spring Rain, from the school of Impressionistic art, was painted in 1912. Summertime, which possesses a simplified, schematic style, was created over thirty years later, in 1943. Therefore, there are extreme differences in the two artists technique and style. However, despite these differences, the two painters works embody the same theme: They are both scenes of urban realism characterized by isolation and loneliness. Pale yellow can be detected in the window shades, in the floor on the staircase and in the woman s hat. In order to contrast the yellow, Hopper uses a very light, whitish blue in the curtains and in the woman s dress. The fact that the woman s dress is white, with a hint of blue, suggests that the woman is almost, but not quite pure. Another compositional style that creates despondency in the paintings is Sloan and Hopper s line usage. Hopper uses strong verticals, horizontals, and diagonals. These lines form simple, large geometric forms. This preciseness gives the architecture a sense of depth and perspective. There is also a stark play of light and shadow in the architecture of the building. All of these elements make the building s architecture extremely realistic. In contrast, John Sloan heavily uses curvy, S shaped lines in Spring Rain, for example, in the trees and in the shape of the woman s body. The path of the top lines on the park benches gives the painting perspective, drawing the viewer s eye to the background. The background of the painting uses the technique of pointillism, the specific arrangement of paint splotches. This technique also helps to give the painting texture in the tree branches and leaves. Even though both painters use different line styles, both styles trigger similar emotional effects in the viewer. For example, Sloan s contoured lines give the painting a sense ... Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare. Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly, companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be permitted. Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. With only two weeks of experience I had a gig in front of a hundred people. Like many first gigs, the stage plays tricks on you and makes you feel inferior. Stage fright had to go away at some point, so I decided for it to be this Saturday night. Countless of hours put into this one night, I would practice day in and day out. There was something for me to prove. You don t have to be naturally talented and experienced to become successful or to perform at a high level. You worked so hard and pushed yourself to prove a point. Although that may be true, you worked so hard not only for success but also for the enjoyment of performing. My dad had turned his back on me and faded away. I stood still thinking about what he has told me. There was a better reason to why I stood up so late and practiced so much. From the beginning, playing an instrument was a wonderful experience. With a confident look and a brighter self esteem. I was ready to rock n roll! I treasured the moment. I put on my shades and walked across the hall with a determined look. I made my way backstage and was suddenly called to the stage. The spotlight was brighter than the suns ray. I foolishly put my shades back on and take a look around me. Complete silence was around me. Such a quiet, yet eerie atmosphere. Eyes across the stage followed me like a homing missile. Using your understanding of criminology and the reasons why people commit crime; provide a recommendation on what action you think the government should take to prevent crime in Queensland. Speculation has been raised about whether incarceration is effective for criminal offenders. When an offender goes against the law, it has been argued that they must take a social debt . Therefore, they are sent to prison to protect the public community, and to be punished. This solution hopefully prevents criminals from committing crime. And our study shows that incentives for graduation and parent training are the two things that work . The offender(s) and the stakeholders should take this quote into consideration, as they would discourage incarceration. This would reduce the likelihood of crime being committed. If this solution is eventually taken into consideration by the government, there will be a dramatic reduction in crime. Furthermore, crime policies should turn away from incarceration as it is extremely expensive compared to rehabilitation and crime prevention programs. It is evident that more and more people are being incarcerated for committing crime each year. Therefore the government is having to pay a large amount of money for the offenders to be imprisoned. Crime is currently costing the Australian government around $32 billion per year. It is approximately $30,000 to incarcerate an offender, however it is only $5,000 to treat an offender (Drug Policy Alliance, 2005). If this solution gets taken into place, it will negatively impact police officers as there will be loss of jobs as their job is to imprison perpetrators. Another group of stakeholders that will be negatively impacted are the victims of crime. As it is likely that only some offenders will be incarcerated, the victims of crime will possibly be unpleased or stressed. However they must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The framework of interprofessional care provides an avenue for women and their families, potentially with complex needs, to receive holistic and individualised care (D Amour et al., 2009; The Royal College of Midwives (RCM), 2014). RCM (2014) suggests that the responsibility of managing the interprofessional relationships between specialist health care professionals, such as neonatologists, belongs with the midwife. Research has shown that maternal diabetes mellitus incurs an increased risk of neonatal hypoglycaemia (Robson et al., 2014). In response to these findings, a neonatologist is required to be present at the delivery of the fetus (Local Trust, 2015). Upon arrival of the neonatologist, a thorough handover of the client s information, including past medical history, as well as neonatal risk factors, was performed by the student. Following delivery, the infant was placed on the resuscitaire and the initial neonatal assessment was completed by the neonatologist, as per Local Trust policy (2016). The results of the assessment were satisfactory and no neonatal abnormalities were identified; the neonatologist made the clinical decision to discharge the infant from the neonatologists care. Within the subsequent ten minutes the infant s muscle tone and respiratory rate reduced which prompted the student to transfer the infant back to the resuscitaire and raise the alarm with the midwife, her mentor. The midwife proceeded to instruct the student to request a neonatal emergency crash call broadcast. Once the neonatologist team arrived, they requested a handover and glanced at the student, who at which point became flustered and unable to share the necessary information, provoking the mentoring midwife to resume control of the situation. The midwife was able to share the relevant information and subsequently aided the diagnosis of neonatal hypoglycaemia. This was quickly treated and the infant was intubated and stabilised prior to being transferred for further treatment and observation in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). We also see how the regime decides to close universities as they educate future imperialists. The Islamic leaders portrayal shows them as upset and bored, and are given much different facial expressions than those that Marjane sees as intellectual (such as Uncle Anoosh (54/3) or Marjane s grandfather (23/8)). This imagery communicates the backwards thinking of these leaders, and as such, also effectively communicate Marjane s opinion of the leaders without needing to discuss it with text. The existing pattern of manipulated schooling in South Africa can be considered an outcome of colonialism, segregation and apartheid. In the early 1800s, the arrival of the British introduced the first system of education in Africa. The indigenous people of Africa were exposed to schooling under the provision of British missionaries. At this time, education was a means of spreading the British language, imposing their religion and just a general mechanism for social control. Education s role can be molding a person for their prescribed field of work, and that is exactly what the whites conducted. They systematically programmed the Africans for work as cheap unskilled laborers and thus left the superior roles in society for themselves to fill. Clear ethnic and class stratification developed, and the government eventually adopted the view that Africans must fund their own education, which continued throughout the apartheid. Between 1910 and 1948, per capita expenditures on white education increased by 263% and African numbers in school plummeted to about 30% (Johnson 1982). Once again, limiting education was a tool to shape society for the benefit of one group the education of the White child prepares him for life in a dominant society and the education of the black child for a subordinate society (Johnson 1982). It, however, still takes an average of 16,232 kilowatt hours to turn out a ton of aluminum, if we are to compare to another product, for instance steel would only need 77 for a ton. However, there is a reason to why Alcoa Intalco Works stays purely with aluminum as Isaac Bonell, a writer for The Bellingham Business Journal pointed out that Aluminum is needed to build infrastructure, to manufacture cars and airplanes, to make high tech medical equipment and to package your favorite chilled beverage. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is such a striking feature in the Ptolemaic family that almost every scholar who had written about Ptolemaic Egypt commented on the incest that took place between its family members (citation PERIPD). The royal family resisted marriage with commoners or Egyptians with significantly lower status and over time the Ptolemies began to abstain from exogamy altogether, marrying within themselves. One of the main reasons of course, is because committing incest is a symbol of power. There is also a cultural reason to it as well, derived from myths where the Greek goddess Gaia (Earth) mated with her son Ouranos (Heaven) and brought order and structure out of chaos. However, incestuous activity is mainly done to assert power and display dominance; committing the taboo set the Ptolemies apart from ordinary standard rules of human behaviour (citation PERIPD). There is also the desire to preserve the purity of royal blood and prevent it from being tainted by commoners and outsiders. Finding a suitable and high status partner is another reason to participate in inbreeding. With no other high status equivalent, the Ptolemies turn to their own family members as they are of equal status and high rank and are sired from the same high class individuals. There is again the cultural influence where in myths, gods marry each other and because the Ptolemies considered themselves gods, incest was completely acceptable. Another benefit to incestuous marriage is the control of the spread of genes. The male has reproductive control over his wife therefore by marrying her he is able to counteract possible rivals. The relative shares some of the same genes as the king, so by making her his wife, the king is preventing her from siring offspring with possible rivals and passing on his genes to outsiders ... During high school I took one of her classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids, which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I was actually able to watch the high schoolstudents interact with their elementary school buddies . What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs. Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that leads to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) if it is not treated within a certain amount of time. Both diseases can be very harmful to the body, and they are not hard to catch. HIV spreads from others through a sexual intercourse but is more likely to come from an unprotected sexual intercourse. HIV is a disease that cannot leave the body, even after treatment. This disease attacks our immune system, mainly our T Cells, which causes the immune system to not be able to fight off infections. When the number of these cells decreases, it makes our bodies prone to other infections. AIDSis the third and the most severe stage of HIV. If someone were to catch HIV and AIDS, it could make a minor sickness deadly. There are three stages of HIV, and there are different effects within each stage. The first stage is the Acute Primary Infection . Within the first, through four weeks some will feel the symptoms of the flu or no symptoms at all. These symptoms include having a fever, sore throat, body rash, swollen glands, headaches, stomachaches, joint aches and pains, and muscle pains.
