Nursing Philosophy and Code of Ethics Essay
There are philosophical forces that make up and direct each nurse s practice. Burkhardt and Nathaniel
(2008) note philosophy as the intense and critical examination of beliefs and assumptions (pp. 27).
One incorporates knowledge and beliefs to make up their philosophical forces. Possessing outstanding
philosophical forces allows one to be respectful, well rounded and possess good character. Some
examples of ways one has been respectful towards another person s beliefs are discussed in the next
paragraph.
A few months ago, one encountered an experience with patient from a different religious background.
This particular patient required a blood transfusion, but opted out due to religious reasons. One had to

Patient care requires the use of ethics and values. Nurses are required to accept a patient s wishes on
choosing their own care. Medication administration also requires the use of ethics and values. Nurses
are required to accept a patient s wishes on refusing a medication and they are also required to
administer a medication using the correct route required. Teaching also requires ethics and values. A
nurse is required to teach a patient the correct information related to their care, while also respecting
the patient. Incorporating ethics is imperative in nursing practice. Ethical theories and principles that
influence nursing practice are discussed in the next paragraph.
Ethical theories play a role in nursing practice. Both of these influence nursing by incorporating moral
decision making. The two ethical theories include naturalism and rationalism. Naturalism suggests
that people with similar situations tend to make the same decisions, while rationalism suggests that
people with similar situations do not make same decisions (Burkhardt and Nathaniel, 2008, pp. 31).
Principles also play a role in nursing practice. They influence nursing by allowing nurses to treat
patients and colleagues with respect and dignity. They also allow nurses to provide adequate care and
live up to nursing duties. Principles and ethical theories are important things that influence nursing
practice. Abiding by a code of ethics is equally important.

Roger Chillingworth Quotes
In chapters 9 and 10, Roger Chillingworth returns and renames himself with a whole new identity. He
made Hester swear to secrecy she wouldn t reveal whom he was. He reintroduces himself to the town
as being a doctor, which was an uncommon profession. Because of the lack of doctors, he was warmly
welcomed and wasn t questioned much. Reverend Dimmesdale is thin and sickly and always clutches
at his chest so Chillingworth becomes his hope for getting better. Though Dimmesdale doesn t believe
medicine can heal him, he caves and agrees to let Chillingworth help him. The two men spend time
together and Chillingworth believes that he should analyze the reverend spiritually, physically, and
mentally in order to cure him. Over time, they think it is a good idea for them ot temporarily move in
together, being that Dimmesdale wasn t married. Some of the townspeople think it is wise but others
start thinking Chillingworth has ugly and evil in his face and that he has changed. Chillingowrth is
dedicated to finding out who committed adultery with Hester. I think this shows shis darker side that
he would do anything to reveal whom his wife cheated on him with. ... Show more content on

Dimmesdale believes that Hester has declared her sins through the scarlet A on her chest and it
relieves her burden. Dimmesdales hidden thoughts, however, seem to be the source of his illness.
Despite this, he doesn t tell anyone and doesn t believe in confessing to an earthly physician and
believes he should only confess to Christ. Chillingworth gets impatient but after they fight, the two
men make up. Later, Dimmesdale falls asleep and Chillingworth goes to his room and lifts his shirt to
reveal something that excites him. To me, his secretive nature reveals his not so positive intentions and
the townspeople rightly suspect him of acting darkly towards the

Billy Pilgrim Anti Hero
Seen throughout war novels, an anti hero is a character that manifests characteristics that usually
appear foolish, making the character an easy target of abuse and a child like status. In the fictional
novel, Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, the protagonist, Billy Pilgrim is a classic anti hero
character. He lacks both valor and dignity, making it easy for his fellow soldiers to make fun of him
and treat him like a child. In addition, Billy possesses a physical appearance that is foolish and
childish, making it hard for him to gain respect from people of higher authority. He is meek, mild and

Ancient Greek Influence On American Society
Ancient Greece is often considered to be the birthplace of the Western World. Ancient Greece has
influenced the Western Society for thousands of years and continues to do so in a vast array of
different areas. Art, literature, language, education, and politics are a few of the areas that have been
influenced from Ancient Greece. In American Society, architecture and politics are two of the areas
that have been monumentally influenced by Ancient Greece. During the time of foundation for the

Fast Food Culture
I) Emergence
The fast food culture emerged as early as the 19th century. During the Industrial Revolution, a large
workforce was required to work for 10 to 12 hours a day. With so much work to be done, fast food
was the idea of a quick and easy lunch.
In India, fast food culture emerged in the decades after independence, starting from the 1950 s. Eating
at home used to be a significant aspect of Indian culture, so the change was gradual. Over a period of
time, with a growth in the number of nuclear families, economic growth and increasing per capita
income as well as globalization, fast food culture gained prominence. Women were shifting from their
conventional roles of managing the household and taking care of the children. With growth in ... Show

This requires a high degree of food engineering , the use of additives and processing techniques that
substantially alter the food from its original form and reduce its nutritional value.
The Indians living in the cities have completely forgotten about their traditional Indian dishes and took
to the Western fast food culture. A survey conducted by a leading Indian newspaper says that over 23
per cent of the children in Delhi are obese. One hopes that this estimate is not true; if it is, one
shudders to think of the numbers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Gurgaon and other
nouveau riche cities with their fast prevailing mall culture and fast food attractions.
Here is a typical scene from one such mall in Hyderabad. It has a 4 movie multiplex theatre,
surrounded by 40 odd fast food kiosks and 20 odd shops that sell clothing, perfumes and jewellery,
music and video CDs and DVDs. Not one of them sells traditional Indian meals or snacks. And the
mall, like 20 others in the city, is filled with thousands of youngsters who obviously have enough to
spend. We did not have such scenes in India twenty years ago, but this mall and fast food culture is
expanding explosively across India. This too is part of the globalization of India, a part that causes
great concern about the health of its citizens.
Today, the world is witnessing a total

The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables
The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves
symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it
to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the
Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The
Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early
1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family.
However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the
Pyncheon s glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... Show more content on

Hepzibah realizes the contrast between the two of them, and on Clifford s return demands Phoebe to
greet him first by saying, Pheobe; for you are young and rosy, and cannot help letting a smile break
out whether or no. He always liked bright faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it
(page 70). In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the
darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne
symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first
sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate
their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin like
harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as
a constant reminder of Alice s spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who
wonder about Alice s legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin like harpsichord, Hawthorne
employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance
in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old
Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove it
from the wall. Hawthorne writes, there

such as steal, cheat, discredit. These words can be used a synonym for term plagiarism because they
are associated with it. Plagiarism can be defined as stealing someone s ideas without giving them

Let s Impose a Total Ban on Smoking in All Public Indoor...
Banning smoking in all public indoor areas has been a controversial topic in recent years. Opinions on
the issue are divided. Some members of the society have been expressing their resentment towards the
ban, while some insist that such a ban is of practical necessity. In fact, a total ban on smoking in all
public indoor areas should have been imposed a long time ago.
Those criticizing the ban claim that smoking poses no immediate danger to people nearby. However,
as we all know, this is far from true. Medical evidence proving the link between smoking and many
fatal diseases is readily available. Smokers, as well as passive smokers, are vulnerable to heart attacks,
strokes and cancers. Many members of the society have lost their ... Show more content on

Business owners of catering industries and entertainment venues express their concerns that such a
ban would unavoidably discourage smokers from patronizing and they claim they should be exempted
from the ban. However, the argument they make is groundless. If there is a universal ban in all public
places with no exception, there will be little effect on those businesses as long as smokers still have to
dine out and still have to relax themselves in bars, karaokes or discos. It is simply ridiculous to assume
that all smokers will stop going to these places! Moreover, the ban should be imposed on all public
indoor places with no exceptions. Non smokers are everywhere! Why should we ignore the non
smoker in any place? The health of non smoker in all places should by no means be neglected.
Smokers also insist that it is their freedom to smoke and it is nobody business once they are willing to
take the risks of smoking. True, they have the freedom to sacrifice their precious lives in exchange for
the short term enjoyment smoking gives them, but it is only when they do so privately, i.e. at home!
While smokers claim that they have the right to smoke, we must recognize that non smokers also have
their freedom to enjoy fresh air. Isn t it egotistic to assume that the health of non smokers should be
expended for protecting the right of smokers to smoke simply for their selfish wish for enjoyment? Isn
t it absurd for such a claim in this civilized society of

The Importance Of Gene Imprinting
Gene imprinting is an epigenetic phenomenon when two alleles of a certain gene are expressed at
different level depending on their parent of origin. Gene imprinting has been documented in mammals
and flowering plants. In the 1980s, biologists attention to imprinting has greatly increased due to the
recognition of its importance during mammalian development [1]. Imprinted genes regulate cell
growth, cell signaling, cell cycle regulation, and influence nutrient acquisition and fetus growth. In
mammals, many imprinted genes are found in the placenta and brain, which is consistent with growth
and neurodevelopmental defects observed in human imprinting disorders [2,3].
In addition to mammals, gene imprinting is also found in flowering plants. ... Show more content on

The angiosperms (flowering plants) are the most diverse group of land plants, with over 250,000
species [5]. Double fertilization is a unique feature distinguishing angiosperms from their seed plant
predecessors (gymnosperms). This feature might have provided angiosperms an evolutionary
advantage to become the dominant form of land plant life, although the selection force of this trait is
poorly understood.
Unlike animals that define all cell lineages during embryogenesis, plants are able to establish novel
cell fates throughout their entire life cycle, especially during sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction
in flowering plants comprises of a process divided into three phases: sporogenesis, gametogenesis and
embryo / endosperm genesis.
Sporogenesis is initiated in both male and female reproductive tissues. In ovule primordium, a
subepidermal nucellar cell differentiates into a megaspore mother cell (MMC), the MMC then
undergoes meiosis to form four haploid megaspores. Only one megaspore survives to become
functional megaspore (FM) and proceeds to gametogenesis, while the other three degenerate. In
stamen primordium, one subepidermal nucellar cell gives rise to a microspore or pollen mother cell
(PMC). The PMC then undergoes meiosis to form four haploid microspores which will continue to

Digital Story Project Analysis
At the start of the project, I was a bit nervous and hesitant about how I would go about with the
project, considering I had no video editing/creating experience. I knew that the digital story project
was important and a great opportunity to reach out to others in the community. It was great be a part of
something that can make a difference. When Sara and I first met with Monica for the first time prior to
the real interview, it was a really nice conversation between all three of us. I felt that Monica was
meant to be our interviewee and that it was our mission to share her story. That first interaction with

would make sure to create a list of questions that was more organized and similar to create a story.
Thirdly, I would make sure that Monica had all the knowledge and resources to communicate with us
and the ability to use her phone/email. This is because we learned that Monica didn t have a lot of
experience with technology and she didn t know how to exactly worked her email. Throughout the
project, we would learn that she had a friend that helped her send emails and so on. If I was given a do

strength and weakness were. I realized that it would ve been easier if the tape recorder worked the first
time we did the interview. Either way, the digital story project was an amazing experience for me and
it truly pushed me out of my comfort zone. I learned that everything is a learning process, and that I
should not be too hard on myself. Now that I have learned the basic of video editing, I am excited to

The Film Blood Diamond By Edward Zwick
In the film Blood Diamond, the director Edward Zwick uses the opening and closing scenes to show
the socio political effects of western consumerism in an underdeveloped society, in particular the
Conflict Diamond trade and its effects, he uses this to highlight the idea of the boy being the diamond
within the film. Consumerism is seen to be the cause of death and destruction in the once beautiful
landscape of Africa with portrait shots of mountains and beautiful sunsets. In both scenes the director
uses camera shots, sounds and overall mis en scene/editing to create these themes/ideas.
The socio political thriller brings chaos and brutality to the forefront of what is a little known conflict
trade. While the movie is full with dynamic characters the real star that is brought to light is the
diamond, of which many audience members could be adorned in, making the realistic side of the film
more obvious. The movie aims in this way to leave to audience with the question Is there Blood on my
hands?
In the first scene Zwick uses camera angles and dialogue/sound to emotionally grab the viewers and to
shock/intrigue them. The scene opens with a fire lit match, showing a poor family, everything is quiet
and settled in their home front until a group of rebels storm their small village and take Solomon
captive. Against the background once portrayed as serene, a man has his hands amputated and is
subsequently killed by the rebels. The scene also contains cross cuts from the

Rationale For Considering Values And Preferences
How the guideline panels use the information: rationale for considering values and preferences
Values and preferences impact the strength of recommendations, together with other factors. If the
variability exists for patient values, the strength of recommendation is weak, indicating
recommendations may not apply to specific patient subgroup. Guideline readers and clinical
practitioners need to pay special attention to weak recommendations and accompanying values and
preferences under these scenarios.2
The systematic review on utilities suggested major bleeding equivalent to nonfatal pulmonary
embolism; while intracranial bleed overall was 2 to 3 times worse than major bleed or pulmonary
embolism. This relative importance helps guideline panels to weigh the balance of benefits and risks
and make the decision accordingly. 16
Considered as significant factors in producing recommendations, the extent to which the values and
preferences vary and the extent to which the panellists are confident about the estimates and their
variation can influence the strength of the recommendation. If the patient values and preferences are
uncertain, or vary across different patient subgroups, the strength of recommendation should be weak.
Was there any recommendations influenced by local values and preferences

Using messages that were either one sided or two sided conveyed by an expert and a non expert. The

(2000); Holdsworth, Raymond et al. (2004), it was stated that having some form of knowledge of
healthy eating increases the chances of behaviours and attitudes changing. As experts such as doctors,
nutritionists, fitness gurus etc. have a better understanding of healthy eating providing a two sided
communicator expertise message. Than non expert communicators as they provide information based
on opinion.
Many individuals are more reluctant adhere to the messages provided by these experts. Therefore,
their attitude towards healthy eating is most likely to change regardless of their status in society. The
messages conveyed can impact on an individual through facts. Tesser, Martin and Mendolia (1995)
created a study thinking about a person who did something nice led that person to be evaluated more
favourably than when distracted from thinking, whereas thinking about a person who was insulting led
to more negative evaluations then when distracted. This is believed to change the attitude of an
individual through bias thinking. Which is a factor that influences the change in attitude of
individuals.
As the expert has prior knowledge and has enough sufficient information to encourage the individual
to change their attitude towards healthy eating. By providing them with non bias messages. However,
Forgas, 1995; Petty et al (1993) believe that when motives bias thinking, people actively try to

The Language Of Silence By Jimmy Santiago Baca And Maxine...
Ever been in a situation where you were the only person who couldn t understand a specific language?
Ever been in a situation where you felt no one could understand you? Do you remember how it made
you feel in that moment? Imagine feeling that way all the time; alone, isolated, and misunderstood.
Jimmy Santiago Baca and Maxine Hong Kingston do a great job of conveying these feelings in their
articles. In the article Coming into Language , Jimmy Santiago tells his story as a troubled young man
who never saw the value in reading and writing. And in the article The Language of Silence , Maxine
Hong Kingston tells her story as a first generation Chinese American who struggles with speaking
English. As for me, I ve always struggled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santiago states Suddenly, through language, through writing, my grief and my joy could be shared
with anyone who would listen (Baca 154). This quote represents the moment Santiago realized the
power of language. He was raised to be a tough guy, and not show too many emotions. He felt no one
would listen or even care about what he was going through. Writing became therapeutic for him, and it
grew into something he loved. Just like Santiago I also write for therapeutic reasons, and I ve grown to
love it. There s somethings I d rather keep to myself than share. I think writing can be just as effective
as talking to someone. Whether you re speaking or writing using language to channel your emotions is
important. I don t think language has to be just words, it can even be art you create. Santiago and
Kingston did an excellent job of demonstrating effective coping skills; when placed in an environment
you don t feel free . Not having adequate language skills can make people view you as less than. This
can affect you getting a job or people simply treating you differently. Our views on language start
from childhood. Santiago states From the time I was seven, teachers had been punishing me for not
knowing my lessons... Ashamed of not understanding and fearful of asking questions, I dropped out of
school by ninth grade (Baca 152). Baca s first introduction to language was shame and inadequacy. He

Examples Of Heroism In World War One Poetry
World War One poets Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen both use poetry to examine their differing
perspectives surrounding the idea of heroism in war. Brooke s The Soldier depicts an idealistic,
patriotic view towards fighting for his country, whereas Owen s Dulce et Decorum est demonstrates a
realistic view of the senseless horrors of war. Both poets utilise similar poetic techniques of imagery
and sound devices to express their contradictory views of the atrocious events of the greatest war that
the world had ever seen at that time.
The Soldier was written at the beginning of World War One before anyone had a chance to experience
the atrocity of a world war. The sonnet portrays a romanticised view of the positives of war for his

By creating these nurturing, peaceful images of a beautiful countryside, Brooke evokes pride from his
primary audience, which in turn creates a sense of nationalism. Furthermore, references to the themes
of heaven and the afterlife create comforting images in the reader s mind. Brooke describes a pulse in
the eternal mind for the hearts at peace under an English heaven , suggesting that those who die
fighting for their country will find themselves in a heaven as idyllic as England. The paradisiacal
images created by Brooke are a stark contrast to the gruesome images featured in Owen s poem. Dulce
et Decorum est is rich in similes that graphically illustrate the goriest details of war. The soldiers in the
poem are described as old beggars who are coughing like hags , which illustrates a loss of dignity,
health and the innocence associated with youth. As the poem progresses, a soldier is the victim of a
gas attack and is described vividly, with white eyes, writhing in his face as blood comes gargling from
his froth corrupted lungs, obscene as cancer . Owen s dark subject matter is further explored through
his juxtaposition of children ardent for desperate glory and soldiers marching like beggars under sacks
. The use of these similes and images shocks the reader and conveys the ruthless reality of war.
Furthermore, the distinctive use of sound devices by both poets further illustrates their opposing views
on war. The use of alliteration to create

King Livia Research Paper
Livia s devotion to being involved with the state did not stop with her husband s policies. Two
generations later, with Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus, her influence is seen again. Claudius lived
with Livia for a long time, during which he developed an immense amount of respect for her.
Although he could be considered the black sheep of the family, when Claudius became emperor, he
was successful in making Britain a province and extending the Roman rule to Northern Africa. The
people wanted to celebrate Claudius, but he refused almost all praise. In fact, he directed all praise
towards Livia instead. His grandmother Livia he not only honoured with equestrian contests but also
deified; and he set up a statue to her in the temple of Augustus, charging the Vestal Virgins with the
duty of offering the proper sacrifices, and he ordered that women should use her name in taking oaths
(Dio Cassius Roman History Book 60). Claudius had so much admiration for her that he wanted her
name to be spoken even when citizens were taking oaths. Livia was an example for women to follow
in that if they are ineligible or unable to shape western civilization themselves, they can shape it with
their connections to powerful men. Livia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The techniques that are used by all fraternities and sororities are called rushing and hazing. Rushing is
the act of popularizing a given fraternity or sorority to attract new members. As mentioned in the
introduction, the alternate forms of rushing cover a large spectrum, but they all have the same goal: be
the best to attract the best. Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with fraternities and
sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly different outcomes.
Hazing, in its most simple and basic form, is the imposition of strenuous or complicated tasks as a
form of initiation. In contrast to popular belief, a lot of normal activity is considered hazing. For
example, a college football team might tell the freshman that they are responsible for cleaning up
loose garbage on the field after a practice. As mild as this example might be, hazing can be taken to an
extreme and often has poor outcomes that can severely damage the psyche of an individual. However,
a sense of tradition and continuation continually inspires hazing among social groups, but fraternities
and sororities especially. Hazing has become a form a bonding that allow new initiates to become
closer as a brotherhood or sisterhood; these two both being the most important part of fraternities and
sororities. To create an everlasting bond, Greek organizations promote ultimate a familial intimacy
that is unparalleled by other social groups. It is in this strive for brotherhood and sisterhood that
mistakes are made and people begin to

Rhetorical Analysis Of A Hanging
In A Hanging, George Orwell utilizes the rhetorical appeals of pathos and ethos in historical context to
convince the audience that the unjustifiable execution of a person is not only barbaric, but unethical.
This is successful because of his sensitive word choice and sympathetic tone. Through his cleaver use
of language techniques and word selection, Orwell evokes the reader s sympathy for the prisoner s
struggles. He repeatedly shows that the prisoners are treated like animals. In the opening lines of the
essay, the setting is described immediately highlights the inhumane conditions in which the prisoners
are contained in. We notice this when the author is describing the cells, he states, we are waiting
outside the condemned cells, row of sheds fronted with double bars, like small animal cages (Orwell
93). It is evident again when he is describing the way it took six guards to escort the prisoner. He says
it was like men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump out of the water (Orwell 94). The
sprouting moustache, absurdly too big for his body (Orwell 93), and a puny wisp of a man (Orwell 93)
suggests malnourishment and neglect among this prisoner, but the reader can infer that this treatment
is spread out amongst all the prisoners. In contrast with this sickly man, he describes the prison guards
as tall Indian warriors (Orwell 93) and even describes one guard in particular as a fat Dravidian
(Orwell 94). The details of these well fed men in comparison to this ill man fuels a feeling of
sympathy towards the prisoner. He provides these details to evoke sympathy for the prisoner to prove
that killing a man is unethical. Through the appeal of pathos, we can empathize with George Orwell.
Orwell never states in the essay as to why the Hindu man was to be hanged. He does not want the
reader to form an opinion on whether or not the prisoner should be executed or not. Instead, he builds
his essay in a way in which he directs us to a path that only argues that taking a life is wrong, no
matter the crime. When he says till that moment, I had never realized what it means to destroy a
healthy conscious man (Orwell 95), the reader is able to empathize with him. Before he says this, the
reader

Sinan Shipwreck Essay
The Sinan Shipwreck is a Chinese cargo ship that sank off the coast of South Korea in c.1323 AD

a system of bureaucracy that included many different cultures that were a part of the empire. For
example, Tibetan Buddhists, Mongols, Han Chinese, Khitans, and Jurchens. Many parts of the

Richard Rodriguez s Autobiography Hunger of Memory Essay
Richard Rodriguez s Autobiography Hunger of Memory
There exists in the majority of people a schism between their public lives and their private lives.
People should desire to have their public selves match their private selves as closely as possible. A rift
between the two causes nothing but pain and suffering for everyone around those people and places a
heavy burden on the spirit of the ones responsible. Trust and honesty are essential to our society and
the truth should be complimentary, not earned. Richard Rodriguez, a writer and public speaker,
expertly illustrates his own experience with this type of double life in his autobiography, Hunger of
Memory.

Rodriguez s mother asks of him, Why do you need to tell the gringos about how divided you feel from
the family? (Rodriguez 175). She doesn t think it right that he so freely presents the family s private
life. Why does she feel some things should remain private? What is she afraid of? Perhaps a better
question is: what is she ashamed of? Rodriguez s mother obviously feels self conscious about certain
aspects of their family life or she would not be uncomfortable with sharing the details. This cultural
withdrawal, as each family pulls away from their neighbors, is one of the leading causes of the modern
exclusivist viewpoint that is becoming all too common. This isolationist attitude is one of the primary
causes of today s crime rate.
Rodriguez states that his mother must use a high pitched tone of voice when she addresses people that
are not relatives (177). This demonstrates that strangers, even sons/daughters in law were never
included in the same group as relatives. Imagine how trying that would be for a young fiancée that
desperately wanted to feel like part of the family but never could? Later, Rodriguez s mother asks
what Psychiatry is. His answer involves Freud, analysis, and clinically trained listeners to which she
replies, You mean that people tell a psychiatrist about their personal lives? (183). Would

Her life as queen is described in detail in the textbook, however it sheds little light on why she is
significant. I believe it missed some key points as to why she is significant to the french revolution.
Although it talks about how the Affair of the diamond necklace angered people, it doesn t talk about
how her extravagant spending infuriated people enough to the extent that they blamed her for their
poverty. I believe that this should be mentioned because it is one of the reasons that people started to
rebel against the monarchy. Another key detail the textbook missed is her involvement in the March of
the Women. Without the rumour of her hoarding bread, the Monarchy and National Assembly would
never have moved to paris which signified the change in power and reforms. Lastly, the fact that she
fired Turgot was briefly explained, however it affected the taxations system in France heavily. had she
not fired him, the Nobles would have been taxed, which could have brought France out of debt, which
is very significant. Because Marie Ationnette heavily influenced the French revolution, she should

How Did Alexis De Tocqueville Influence Town Government
Alexis de Tocqueville s Influence
Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of the American prison system brought out several interesting
facts about America and how it governs itself. He talks of the danger of greed for money, the
importance of forming associations, and the power of influence in town government. Although many
of his observations have since changed, many of them bring about legitimate points about American
government and society.
In de Tocqueville s book Democracy in America, he is quoted as saying, ...I know of no other country
where love of money has such a grip on men s hearts or where stronger scorn is expressed for the
theory of permanent equality of property. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe we have been successful as a country in doing this. We have learned that we must rely on one
another in order to meet all of our needs to the best of our own abilities.
de Tocqueville also points out how powerful personal influence can be in town government. Consider
his quote, In towns it is impossible to prevent men from assembling, getting excited together and
forming sudden passionate resolves. Towns are like great meeting houses with all the inhabitants as
members. In them the people wield immense influence over their magistrates and often carry their
desires into execution without intermediaries. He is pointing out that local government will almost
always find ways to get around larger government because of the immediate interest of residents. In
reality, it is the people that run the government because they have the ability to remove elected
representatives if they aren t getting things done the way the people want. The problem is, many
people fail to realize this fact and just don t vote. The want to blame the problems of the country on
the elected officials although they are the ones that did, or in some cases, did not, vote for the person
who will make the voice of the people heard.
I think overall, de Tocqueville s view of America was right on key with many of my personal views. I

Aviation Company Karl Rapp
Initially starting as an aviation company set up by Karl Rapp which was established in 1913 was the
basis at which BMW began their long and illustrious tenor at the top of the luxury brand Automotive
industry. Although struggling initially due to poor engine designs which suffered from severe vibration
problems the company knows as Rapp Motorenwerke barely remained in business solely due to the
Austro Daimler being unable to keep up with the high demand of the V12 aircraft engines required by
the Austrian military. It was this inability to meet their demands that resulted in the decision for the
engines to be produced at Rapp Motorenwerke allowing them to remain in business. Franz Josef Popp
who was the lead supervising engineering at Austro Daimler was sent to Munich to supervise the
engine quality. Popp went on to become actively involved in the running of the company and was
behind the hiring of Max Friz who was a young and talented aircraft engineer. It would be the hiring
of Friz that would change the course of the company. Within a few weeks of his hiring Max Friz had
designed a new aero engine far superior to any other German aero engine currently being produced.
Following the departure of Rapp the company took on a large restructuring and BMW was first
established as a business entity in 1917. Large orders were being received for the BMW IIIa engine

Globally, most countries have achieved a birth rate at about two children per woman. But in sub
Saharan Africa, it s 5.6 children per woman, largely because girls are not aware of reproductive
choices and drop out of school at a young age and have kids.
Politicians can effectively address reproductive inequality. Contraception is a huge topic in America.
Many religious conservative groups condemn it, and have protested it which has caused programs that
provide it to have their funding cut, which ended up with abortions becoming more common. When
contraception is taken away, the result isn t less sex, but more pregnancy and more abortions.
Contraception alone prevents around 112 million abortions a year. Republicans are continuing to
defund global family planning despite it being estimated that in a year these programs prevent 150,000
maternal deaths, 53 million unintended pregnancies, and 25 million abortions worldwide each year. It
would also prevent 973,000 unintended pregnancies, and 406,000 abortions in the U.S. Providing
family planning worldwide would require $3.6 billion a year. The U.S. share of the cost (according to
the U.N. Population Fund) would be about $1 billion, but it would save American taxpayers roughly
$3.4 billion annually that would otherwise be spent on the pregnancies and babies in

  • 3. Nursing Philosophy and Code of Ethics Essay There are philosophical forces that make up and direct each nurse s practice. Burkhardt and Nathaniel (2008) note philosophy as the intense and critical examination of beliefs and assumptions (pp. 27). One incorporates knowledge and beliefs to make up their philosophical forces. Possessing outstanding philosophical forces allows one to be respectful, well rounded and possess good character. Some examples of ways one has been respectful towards another person s beliefs are discussed in the next paragraph. A few months ago, one encountered an experience with patient from a different religious background. This particular patient required a blood transfusion, but opted out due to religious reasons. One had to respect the patient s wishes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patient care requires the use of ethics and values. Nurses are required to accept a patient s wishes on choosing their own care. Medication administration also requires the use of ethics and values. Nurses are required to accept a patient s wishes on refusing a medication and they are also required to administer a medication using the correct route required. Teaching also requires ethics and values. A nurse is required to teach a patient the correct information related to their care, while also respecting the patient. Incorporating ethics is imperative in nursing practice. Ethical theories and principles that influence nursing practice are discussed in the next paragraph. Ethical theories play a role in nursing practice. Both of these influence nursing by incorporating moral decision making. The two ethical theories include naturalism and rationalism. Naturalism suggests that people with similar situations tend to make the same decisions, while rationalism suggests that people with similar situations do not make same decisions (Burkhardt and Nathaniel, 2008, pp. 31). Principles also play a role in nursing practice. They influence nursing by allowing nurses to treat patients and colleagues with respect and dignity. They also allow nurses to provide adequate care and live up to nursing duties. Principles and ethical theories are important things that influence nursing practice. Abiding by a code of ethics is equally important. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Roger Chillingworth Quotes In chapters 9 and 10, Roger Chillingworth returns and renames himself with a whole new identity. He made Hester swear to secrecy she wouldn t reveal whom he was. He reintroduces himself to the town as being a doctor, which was an uncommon profession. Because of the lack of doctors, he was warmly welcomed and wasn t questioned much. Reverend Dimmesdale is thin and sickly and always clutches at his chest so Chillingworth becomes his hope for getting better. Though Dimmesdale doesn t believe medicine can heal him, he caves and agrees to let Chillingworth help him. The two men spend time together and Chillingworth believes that he should analyze the reverend spiritually, physically, and mentally in order to cure him. Over time, they think it is a good idea for them ot temporarily move in together, being that Dimmesdale wasn t married. Some of the townspeople think it is wise but others start thinking Chillingworth has ugly and evil in his face and that he has changed. Chillingowrth is dedicated to finding out who committed adultery with Hester. I think this shows shis darker side that he would do anything to reveal whom his wife cheated on him with. ... Dimmesdales hidden thoughts, however, seem to be the source of his illness. Despite this, he doesn t tell anyone and doesn t believe in confessing to an earthly physician and believes he should only confess to Christ. Chillingworth gets impatient but after they fight, the two men make up. Later, Dimmesdale falls asleep and Chillingworth goes to his room and lifts his shirt to reveal something that excites him. To me, his secretive nature reveals his not so positive intentions and the townspeople rightly suspect him of acting darkly towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Fast Food Culture I) Emergence The fast food culture emerged as early as the 19th century. During the Industrial Revolution, a large workforce was required to work for 10 to 12 hours a day. With so much work to be done, fast food was the idea of a quick and easy lunch. In India, fast food culture emerged in the decades after independence, starting from the 1950 s. Eating at home used to be a significant aspect of Indian culture, so the change was gradual. Over a period of time, with a growth in the number of nuclear families, economic growth and increasing per capita income as well as globalization, fast food culture gained prominence. This requires a high degree of food engineering , the use of additives and processing techniques that substantially alter the food from its original form and reduce its nutritional value. The Indians living in the cities have completely forgotten about their traditional Indian dishes and took to the Western fast food culture. A survey conducted by a leading Indian newspaper says that over 23 per cent of the children in Delhi are obese. One hopes that this estimate is not true; if it is, one shudders to think of the numbers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Gurgaon and other nouveau riche cities with their fast prevailing mall culture and fast food attractions. Here is a typical scene from one such mall in Hyderabad. It has a 4 movie multiplex theatre, surrounded by 40 odd fast food kiosks and 20 odd shops that sell clothing, perfumes and jewellery, music and video CDs and DVDs. Not one of them sells traditional Indian meals or snacks. And the mall, like 20 others in the city, is filled with thousands of youngsters who obviously have enough to spend. We did not have such scenes in India twenty years ago, but this mall and fast food culture is expanding explosively across India. This too is part of the globalization of India, a part that causes great concern about the health of its citizens. Today, the world is witnessing a total ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early 1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the Pyncheon s glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... Hepzibah realizes the contrast between the two of them, and on Clifford s return demands Phoebe to greet him first by saying, Pheobe; for you are young and rosy, and cannot help letting a smile break out whether or no. He always liked bright faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it (page 70). In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin like harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as a constant reminder of Alice s spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who wonder about Alice s legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin like harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove it from the wall. Hawthorne writes, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Let s Impose a Total Ban on Smoking in All Public Indoor... Banning smoking in all public indoor areas has been a controversial topic in recent years. Opinions on the issue are divided. Some members of the society have been expressing their resentment towards the ban, while some insist that such a ban is of practical necessity. In fact, a total ban on smoking in all public indoor areas should have been imposed a long time ago. Those criticizing the ban claim that smoking poses no immediate danger to people nearby. However, as we all know, this is far from true. Medical evidence proving the link between smoking and many fatal diseases is readily available. Smokers, as well as passive smokers, are vulnerable to heart attacks, strokes and cancers. Many members of the society have lost their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Business owners of catering industries and entertainment venues express their concerns that such a ban would unavoidably discourage smokers from patronizing and they claim they should be exempted from the ban. However, the argument they make is groundless. If there is a universal ban in all public places with no exception, there will be little effect on those businesses as long as smokers still have to dine out and still have to relax themselves in bars, karaokes or discos. It is simply ridiculous to assume that all smokers will stop going to these places! Moreover, the ban should be imposed on all public indoor places with no exceptions. Non smokers are everywhere! Why should we ignore the non smoker in any place? The health of non smoker in all places should by no means be neglected. Smokers also insist that it is their freedom to smoke and it is nobody business once they are willing to take the risks of smoking. True, they have the freedom to sacrifice their precious lives in exchange for the short term enjoyment smoking gives them, but it is only when they do so privately, i.e. at home! While smokers claim that they have the right to smoke, we must recognize that non smokers also have their freedom to enjoy fresh air. Isn t it egotistic to assume that the health of non smokers should be expended for protecting the right of smokers to smoke simply for their selfish wish for enjoyment? Isn t it absurd for such a claim in this civilized society of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Importance Of Gene Imprinting Gene imprinting is an epigenetic phenomenon when two alleles of a certain gene are expressed at different level depending on their parent of origin. Gene imprinting has been documented in mammals and flowering plants. In the 1980s, biologists attention to imprinting has greatly increased due to the recognition of its importance during mammalian development [1]. Imprinted genes regulate cell growth, cell signaling, cell cycle regulation, and influence nutrient acquisition and fetus growth. In mammals, many imprinted genes are found in the placenta and brain, which is consistent with growth and neurodevelopmental defects observed in human imprinting disorders [2,3]. Please ensure that either British or American English is used consistently in your chapter. The angiosperms (flowering plants) are the most diverse group of land plants, with over 250,000 species [5]. Double fertilization is a unique feature distinguishing angiosperms from their seed plant predecessors (gymnosperms). This feature might have provided angiosperms an evolutionary advantage to become the dominant form of land plant life, although the selection force of this trait is poorly understood. Unlike animals that define all cell lineages during embryogenesis, plants are able to establish novel cell fates throughout their entire life cycle, especially during sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction in flowering plants comprises of a process divided into three phases: sporogenesis, gametogenesis and embryo / endosperm genesis. Sporogenesis is initiated in both male and female reproductive tissues. In ovule primordium, a subepidermal nucellar cell differentiates into a megaspore mother cell (MMC), the MMC then undergoes meiosis to form four haploid megaspores. Only one megaspore survives to become functional megaspore (FM) and proceeds to gametogenesis, while the other three degenerate. In stamen primordium, one subepidermal nucellar cell gives rise to a microspore or pollen mother cell (PMC). The PMC then undergoes meiosis to form four haploid microspores which will continue to ... Digital Story Project Analysis At the start of the project, I was a bit nervous and hesitant about how I would go about with the project, considering I had no video editing/creating experience. I knew that the digital story project was important and a great opportunity to reach out to others in the community. It was great be a part of something that can make a difference. When Sara and I first met with Monica for the first time prior to the real interview, it was a really nice conversation between all three of us. The Film Blood Diamond By Edward Zwick In the film Blood Diamond, the director Edward Zwick uses the opening and closing scenes to show the socio political effects of western consumerism in an underdeveloped society, in particular the Conflict Diamond trade and its effects, he uses this to highlight the idea of the boy being the diamond within the film. Consumerism is seen to be the cause of death and destruction in the once beautiful landscape of Africa with portrait shots of mountains and beautiful sunsets. In both scenes the director uses camera shots, sounds and overall mis en scene/editing to create these themes/ideas. The socio political thriller brings chaos and brutality to the forefront of what is a little known conflict trade. While the movie is full with dynamic characters the real star that is brought to light is the diamond, of which many audience members could be adorned in, making the realistic side of the film more obvious. The movie aims in this way to leave to audience with the question Is there Blood on my hands? In the first scene Zwick uses camera angles and dialogue/sound to emotionally grab the viewers and to shock/intrigue them. The scene opens with a fire lit match, showing a poor family, everything is quiet and settled in their home front until a group of rebels storm their small village and take Solomon captive. Brooke s The Soldier depicts an idealistic, patriotic view towards fighting for his country, whereas Owen s Dulce et Decorum est demonstrates a realistic view of the senseless horrors of war. Both poets utilise similar poetic techniques of imagery and sound devices to express their contradictory views of the atrocious events of the greatest war that the world had ever seen at that time. The paradisiacal images created by Brooke are a stark contrast to the gruesome images featured in Owen s poem. Dulce et Decorum est is rich in similes that graphically illustrate the goriest details of war. The soldiers in the poem are described as old beggars who are coughing like hags , which illustrates a loss of dignity, health and the innocence associated with youth. As the poem progresses, a soldier is the victim of a gas attack and is described vividly, with white eyes, writhing in his face as blood comes gargling from his froth corrupted lungs, obscene as cancer . Owen s dark subject matter is further explored through his juxtaposition of children ardent for desperate glory and soldiers marching like beggars under sacks . Although he could be considered the black sheep of the family, when Claudius became emperor, he was successful in making Britain a province and extending the Roman rule to Northern Africa. The people wanted to celebrate Claudius, but he refused almost all praise. In fact, he directed all praise towards Livia instead. Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with fraternities and sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly different outcomes. Hazing, in its most simple and basic form, is the imposition of strenuous or complicated tasks as a form of initiation. In contrast to popular belief, a lot of normal activity is considered hazing. However, a sense of tradition and continuation continually inspires hazing among social groups, but fraternities and sororities especially. • 27. Rhetorical Analysis Of A Hanging In A Hanging, George Orwell utilizes the rhetorical appeals of pathos and ethos in historical context to convince the audience that the unjustifiable execution of a person is not only barbaric, but unethical. This is successful because of his sensitive word choice and sympathetic tone. Through his cleaver use of language techniques and word selection, Orwell evokes the reader s sympathy for the prisoner s struggles. He repeatedly shows that the prisoners are treated like animals. In the opening lines of the essay, the setting is described immediately highlights the inhumane conditions in which the prisoners are contained in. We notice this when the author is describing the cells, he states, we are waiting outside the condemned cells, row of sheds fronted with double bars, like small animal cages (Orwell 93). It is evident again when he is describing the way it took six guards to escort the prisoner. He says it was like men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump out of the water (Orwell 94). The sprouting moustache, absurdly too big for his body (Orwell 93), and a puny wisp of a man (Orwell 93) suggests malnourishment and neglect among this prisoner, but the reader can infer that this treatment is spread out amongst all the prisoners. In contrast with this sickly man, he describes the prison guards as tall Indian warriors (Orwell 93) and even describes one guard in particular as a fat Dravidian (Orwell 94). The details of these well fed men in comparison to this ill man fuels a feeling of sympathy towards the prisoner. He provides these details to evoke sympathy for the prisoner to prove that killing a man is unethical. Through the appeal of pathos, we can empathize with George Orwell. Orwell never states in the essay as to why the Hindu man was to be hanged. He does not want the reader to form an opinion on whether or not the prisoner should be executed or not. Instead, he builds his essay in a way in which he directs us to a path that only argues that taking a life is wrong, no matter the crime. When he says till that moment, I had never realized what it means to destroy a healthy conscious man (Orwell 95), the reader is able to empathize with him. Before he says this, the reader ...
