Chastity In The Canterbury Tales
Through the union of thirty four pilgrims on their journey to Canterbury for absolution, Chaucer pens
the tales and interactions of the pilgrims of various ranks and ecclesiastic affiliation. He negotiates a
social hierarchy different from that of the current governing structure through his acute understanding
of the behaviors, beliefs, and pretenses that cemented such order. Chaucer s microcosm of
caricaturized hierarchies criticizes the current social order defining the late 1300s, exposes the
decadence of the disintegrating social structure, and hints at his idyllic version of a more correct
institution. To understand Chaucer s lampoonery, it is imperative to understand the current rankings
and privilege from whence he came. Born to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the supporting cast of women effort for mastery over their husbands; they abandon it the
moment they attain it. In an era where chastity was expected and cherished, the Wife of Bath presents
a refreshing alternative to such concepts. She boasts of her sexual proclivity and contends that male
genitalia serves a greater purpose than simply urination. Her freeness in indulging in sexual activity
and her multiple spouses speaks to her inner confidence and lack of privacy. Her character discusses
the power relations between men and women and posits that women desire domination and control
over men ( The Wife of Bath s Tale , 229); however, the domination that they crave is surface level in
that women relapse into their subordinate stereotypes once they have been granted such control. In an
analogous vein, the Nun s Priest Tale offers a varied stance from feminist s push for coexisting powers
if not complete domination. When Chanticleer confides in his dear Pertelote about his premonition,
she dismisses his qualms and accuses him of cowardice. Her desire for a courageous mate parallels
men s objectification of women and exposes the equally one dimensional consideration given to

Catherine De Medici Influence On Ballet
Ballet is a formalized and elegant form of dance with a fitting origin that traces back to Italian
Renaissance courts during the 15th and 16th centuries. This style of dance quickly spread from Italy to
France with the assistance of the aristocratic influence that came from Catherine de Medici, who
succeeded in helping ballet develop even further. For example, Catherine helped develop ballet further
by having her own piece of work, Le Paradis d Amour , be presented at her daughters wedding, where
Marguerite de Valois was wedded to Henry of Navarre. Naturally, with ballet having an aristocratic
background, aristocratic money was responsible for the dance styles initial stages of development in
court ballet. Royalty was what dictated the literature, music, and ideas that was incorporated into
ballet at the time. Ballet was also used as a prime source of entertainment for aristocrats. ... Show

of Ballet Comique de la Reine . She was not the one who organized it however, as it was her fellow
citizen, Balthasar de Beaujoyeulx, who was responsible for presenting the first formal court that ever
applied the principles of Baif s Academie, as it used poetry, music, dance, and set design to its
advantage in creating a dramatic and memorable storyline. The development for this court ballet was

Ramayana and some of the Hindu virtues derived from it The poetic author, Valmiki, does not calls
Rama the perfect man in his well known tale of Ramayana for no reason. For this story has been a
legendary epic that many generations of the Hindu culture have been modeling their society after, for
over two thousand years. It has been an influential teaching for children and scholars of all ages

characteristics of great piety to his parents and the lack of desire to be a powerful and authoritative
rich ruler, all while knowing that he is giving up his righteous turn to rule the kingdom since he is the
oldest of the four sons of the king. Instead, he willingly goes off into exile forest infested with evil
spirits whom he battles with the power of good and defeats. As in most of the Eastern world, this
example of respect being paid to elders, parents, authorities (no matter what one is commanded to do)
is very important in one s faith ; and the fact that one successfully wards off evil, gives him/her the
title of a cultural model hero, just as seen in Rama s case. Rama s casual attitude about going off into

physical attachments. His peaceful and patient attitude towards his life is vivid due to his enduring
wisdom. For he goes beyond the material and physical world

Name three examples of how Hitchcock s shower sequence in the film Psycho is similar to Eisenstein
s Odessa Steps Sequence in Battleship Potemkin . Explain and cite examples.
The first similarity is between the shower scene in Psycho and Odessa step in Battleship Potemkin is
the use of montage. In the Odessa step scenes, Sergei employs montage when he juxtaposes the
images of the soldiers with those of the peasants as they are walking down the stairs. In the shower
sequence, the usage of montage is depicted with the combination of subsequent shots in a short period
to make the scene appear longer, controlled, subjective, and violent.

The Use of Symbolism in A Doll House
Author Margaret Trudeau once said, I can t be a rose in any man s lapel ( I Can t Be ). This quote
expresses exactly what was going through many women s minds during the 1800 s in Norway. Women
had let their husbands control their lives for ages before the 1800 s. Soon, they could no longer stand
being the rose in their husbands lapel. The women of Norway longed for freedom and began to rebel.
Henrik Ibsen s play, A Doll House, displays what women were going through during that time. The
three act play is about Nora, a seemingly typical, submissive housewife, and Torvald, Nora s
condescending, banker husband. In his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nora realizes that she cannot stand living in Torvald s doll house anymore being his perfect little doll,
and she wants to become more than just a doll, so she leaves. Nora as Torvald s doll clearly
symbolizes how women were so submissive to their husbands during that time period in Norway.
Another symbol Ibsen uses throughout the play is the macaroons as a symbol of women s
independence, to show how they longed for freedom from their husbands. The first time the
macaroons are used as a symbol is in the beginning of the play when Torvald does not allow Nora to
eat macaroons. It is shown how Nora tries to hide them from her husband when she first arrives at
home. When Torvald asks when she arrived at home she says, Just now. (Putting the macaroon bag in
her pocket and wiping her mouth.) Do come in, Torvald, and see what I ve bought (Ibsen 44; Act 1).
Torvald doesn t allow Nora to eat macaroons, so Nora tries to hide them from him. In the beginning of
the play, Nora is submissive to Torvald and tries to be what he sees as a perfect spouse, although she
doesn t get treated like a spouse should be treated. She is controlled by Torvald because in his eyes, a
perfect spouse is a doll that he controls, which Nora tries to be, for example by hiding the macaroons
so he doesn t know that she disobeyed him. Nevertheless, Nora begins to eat the macaroons more
overtly later on in the play. Nora s first time

How Did American Culture Change Over Time
Over the past several centuries the world has changed in a countless number of ways. From
colonialism to slavery, the industrial revolution to the World Wars, and the modern day technological
boom, America in particular has often been right in the middle of all of the transformations. Amongst
these changes certain movements also began to rise up especially in the arts, sciences, and politics.
One such movement, romanticism, emphasized emotions, abstract thought, and individual self. On the
other hand, an opposite movement known as neoclassicism, or sometimes just classicism, emphasized
a more old school approach to life. For example, things like reason and rationality, etiquette, and
science were mainly focused on. Moving into today modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This includes healthcare, immigration, and basic human rights. After the most recent presidential
election many people that associate themselves with LBGTQ+ in any way have been sought out by
others wishing to cause them harm, or even kill them. Although it has been hundreds of years since
Lafayette s novel the times have unfortunately not changed much. The princess was afraid to come
forward and express her love for the Duke just like people who identify as gay or lesbian, among
many others, are today. In fact sometime after her publication of the Princess of Cleves it was
discovered that Lafayette was most likely writing about the rule under Louis XIV, but she stated
Henry II instead so she would not be caught and possible executed. It is in this way that even though
certain aspects of our society is changing the world today is still very much classicist, and stuck in
their traditional old school ways of life. Another example of this classicist view can be seen in Karl
Marx s writings on communism. Karl Marx if one of the biggest influencers on the modern world. His
writings shaped countless world events and people. One could argue he had profound effects on both
Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin with things coming to blow in the Cold War. Before the horrific events

Canadian Corporate Bonds
Corporate Bonds are the financial instruments through which corporates can raise capital by
borrowing money from investors. In return company pays interest on the principal. And the principal
is returned to the lender after pre determine period also called as maturity. It is more cost effective to
raise money through bonds than through equity. Even if the company is going through a difficult
financial crisis, it still has a legal commitment to pay interest and principal to lenders. Bond investors
have priority over shareholders on the company s properties in case of bankruptcy. Companies issue
bonds for a variety of purposes, including buying new assets, investing in research and development,
refinancing debt, or financing mergers and acquisitions. Corporate bonds are one of the main products
of the fixed income market. These instruments have similar features that of a bank loan, except that
they can be transferrable from one lender (investor) to another, and can be traded in market which is
known as corporate bond market. Trading is performed either on price or yield basis. Bond usually

The Internet a New News
A fact is something that is said to be indisputably true. Facts are key in portraying any storyline or

reporting only facts that provide an accurate description of events. Unfortunately, certain media outlets
have issues with reporting solely facts. The media can be an amazing tool for dispersing information
amongst the masses and can ensure that everyone is educated on relevant and important topics. The
media can also be used as propaganda to further an agenda that may not be in everyone s best interest.
Regardless of what media is used for it is a very powerful outlet and whoever controls the media

Review Of Genome-Wide Analysis Of Trx Family In Cotton...

This work provides the first report on genome wide analysis and characterization of TRX family in
cotton genomes. We found that there are 150 genes in Gossypium hirsutum, 92 genes in Gossypium
arboreum and 81 genes in Gossypium Ramondii. According to domain number, GhTRX genes divided
into five subfamilies (TRX A, TRX B, TRX O, TRX ERp29 and TRX TPR_1_2).This result is in
agreement with previous study in other species such as rice, Arabidopsis and sorghum(Choi, Jeong,

evolutionary stages; events were ranged from 9 to 70 MYA (Ref) whereas the genome of the ancestor
of Arabidopsis underwent a duplication event about 24 40 MYA, shortly after the divergence from the
cotton ancestor. Approximately 14% of paralogous pairs remain up to date (Meyer et al., 2005). In
general duplication of GhTRX happened after OsTRX and ATTRX and the number of genes
duplicated was lower than in rice and Arabidopsis; this May be due to loss of most paralogues (Ref).
GhTRX A subfamily was largest amongst GhTRXs subfamilies; agreeing with previous study in rice,

Essay about Mac vs Pc
Mac vs. PC: The Everlasting Debate
In the world of computers, the choice of systems can be a complicated one. There are two competitors
out there, PCs and Macs. Everyone has their own opinion on which is better, and there are many die
hard fans in each camp. The truth is, PC s are far more popular, and for good reasons, yet the Mac
system is actually the more durable and useful of the two. Firstly we will consider software
availability. The majority of computer users own PC s, both for work and recreational use. Therefore,
software companies find that it is far more profitable to develop software that is for use on a PC
instead of a Mac. There is such a variety of software written for PC s that is unavailable for Macs that

Today, however, Windows XP has greatly reduced the gap between the two systems. The main
problem with the Mac OS is the fact that applications could be in any of several places, such as the
Dock, the Desktop, or the Applications folder. With Windows XP, all applications can be accessed
from the Start menu, as well as in other ways (Kaufman, 2003). Another area that Macs are ahead of
PC s in is stability. The Mac OS is built on the UNIX operating system, which is by far more stable
that PC s own foundations. This results in fewer crashes with the system. The Mac systems are also
more stable because Apple controls everything that is plugged into the system, and each system is
complete straight out of the box. With PCs, there are more peripherals to plug in, and a wide variety of
different add ons available, increasing the likelihood of device conflicts (Kaufman, 2003). The people
who create Macs have managed to get very far ahead of those who create PC s in design points. The
Mac has been detailed to perfection, and looks sleek and simple. The PC, on the other hand, is
basically a bunch of boxes and things stuck together, far clunkier, and less appealing visually. The
iMac is a very compact machine, and it doesn t have random buttons and things distracting from its
design. The desktop PC, however, is large and clutters up any space without looking anywhere near as
simply elegant as the Mac (Kaufman, 2003)(Apple, 2006). Although

Symbolism In Raskolnikov s Nightmare

scarcely conscious of himself, and almost without effort, almost mechanically, brought the blunt side

Whenever Raskolnikov is out on a walk, he thinks of disturbing circumstances, only to come across
something beautiful in his eyes. Horses are generally described to be both majestic and beautiful,

Ulcerative Colitis Essay
Ulcerative colitis, one of the two most chronic inflammatory bowel diseases that causes distresses to
the digestive system. Not as severe as Crohn s disease but similar, ulcerative colitis is the
inflammation of the colon and rectum, which affects the inner lining of the intestinal wall. Due to the
inflammation and irritation caused by colitis, it can result in ulcers being produced in the large
intestine. Ulcerative colitis can affect both men and women; however, affects women slightly higher
than it does men. It can develop as early as in the childhood stage or even sometimes later on in life,
which has been said to show between the ages of 15 to 35. This disease can be found in patients all
over the world but more commonly found in people of Jewish descent, and those who are from the
United States and Northern Europe. Just like many other diseases, ulcerative colitis has a chance of
affecting an immediate family member of a patient who has already been diagnosed. However, the risk
of developing this disease is ten times more than a patient who does not have a relative with ulcerative
colitis. As ulcerative colitis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Dante s The Of Hell
Jacob Barnett
Essay#2
Reid
Title
I think Dante s description of Hell is a wonderful work of literature. Dante uses numerous literary
techniques to describe his envisionment of Hell to the reader. In my opinion, one of the most affective
techniques used by Dante is symbolism. It would be a very difficult task to compile a brief list of
significant symbols from the Cantos that we read in class. Dante utilized many symbols throughout
each canto. Some of the symbols that Dante used in Inferno are well defined and easy to interpret,
while other symbols are much more difficult to recognize and understand. For this paper, I will be
analyzing multiple symbols from Dante s Inferno. Some of the symbols came from the Canto s that
were included in class readings while others were depicted throughout the Canto s that were not
assigned readings.
I found that one of the major symbols that reoccurred throughout the poem is the idea of a continuing
journey. This was depicted in the very first line of the poem when Dante s life was compared to a road
or pathway which Dante is halfway through. The specificity of the piece noting that Dante is halfway
through further emphasizes the symbolism of continuing a journey by out rightly stating that he has
begun but not yet finished. Therefore, when Dante strays from the intended path in the beginning of
the first Canto he has symbolically strayed from the right kind of life . Dante s journey with Virgil
through the many layers of hell also

On May 30, 2000 The Calvin Klein family filed a lawsuit against Warnaco Group Inc for eighteen
counts of trademark infringement, trademark dilution and intentional misrepresentation. Nearly a
month later Warnaco answered with a counter suit, denying the major allegations and justifying the
dilution to falling within the scope of the two parities licensing agreement. The case study brings forth
information regarding fashion retailing, distribution practices and even the licensing practices

agreements and understandings discussed with a contract, the rights to a trademark and the rights of
both the licensor and the licensee. While briefing this case study one can not help but notice, stated on
page 21, the agreements that are displayed in exhibit 1: Excerpts from Calvin Klein Jeanswear
Licensing Agreement. Here it is clear that the agreement, signed by BOTH parties, states that Warnaco
agrees to maximize the quantity of Articles sold, and will be consistent with CKI s past practices. One
can assume, that due to the prolonged history between the two parties this includes Costco, Sam s
Club and BJs store, which alone were held responsible for 150 million dollars in warehouse sales, just
one year prior to the filing of the lawsuit. It is also important to point out that this licensing agreement
is not with CKI as the owner, it is in fact a licensing agreement with the CK Trademark Trust being
the beneficial owner to ALL rights, titles and interest in or to the Licensed Mark. The licensing
agreement then continues to state that Warnaco controls any such act or thing which may cause any
affect to the Trust. With the understanding of licensing,

Cryptography And The Egyptian Tomb Of A Nobleman
Since written history and most likely prior, the world has been trying to hide and keep others away
from things considered important enough. Civilization has a desire to hide this information from
others. This could be for reasons of espionage, having a secret that shouldn t be shared or some other
well guarded right. Cryptography, encryption and various other methods have been used in history and
are constantly evolving into what we are using today to protect our data from getting stolen, hacked
and lives peeked at.
Cryptography, at least in some form, has been around since 1900 BC where the first known evidence
had been seen in an Egyptian tomb of a nobleman, Khnuhotep II. Here, there are unusual hieroglyphic
symbols that the scribe used in the place of more ordinary ones that one would expect. It is thought
that the purpose of changing these symbols, it was not to hide the message, but make it seem like it
was more dignified. However, evidence of cryptography has been traced back to the most of the major
early civilizations. Arthasharta, an ancient Indian treatise, helps tell of an espionage service and
mentions secret writing that their spies had used on assignements. Julias Caesar also had his very own
cipher. It was a form of encryption to relay secret messages to his generals that were on the war front.
It is a substitution cipher, and the most widely mentioned in history. A substitution cipher is where a
plain text message would have each character

Mark Twain is a pen name of Samuel Longhorne Clemens, one of the greatest novelist in the twentieth
century. As an American writer who was born in Missouri, Twain worked mainly as a printer for local
newspapers and as a riverboat pilot in his early career. Such experience provided him the setting for
two of his great works: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876) and its sequel, The Adventure of
Huckleberry Finn(1885), ?the great American novel?. These two works reflected Twain?s attitude
towards slavery, civil rights and anti imperialism. His life was concluded as ?the greatest American
humorist in his age,? by New York Times and ?the father of American literature? by William Faulkner.

Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War, America?and especially the South?was still
struggling with racism and the after effects of slavery.?By describing the change of attitude towards
Jim, Twain reached his target, supporting anti slavery.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,?The Adventures of Tom Sawyer?concerns itself primarily with
painting an idyllic picture of boyhood life along the Mississippi River. Though Twain satirizes adult
conventions throughout? The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,?he leaves untouched certain larger issues
that? The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?explores critically: the problem of slavery, was mentioned
indirectly in the Tom but was directly depicted in Huckleberry by using a character: Jim.

Similarities And Differences Between Islamic Banking And...
CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
This study is undertaken to understand the concept and features of Islamic banking and conventional
banking, the similarity and differences between the two systems and their economic implications.
Generally, a financial institution or a financial intermediary that accepts deposits and channels those
deposits into lending activities, either directly or through capital markets is given the name of bank. its
source of generating revenue and cost of funds is charging of interest through lending and also
accepting deposits for interest respectively. Interest is the major driver of operations of conventional
banks although other valuable services including guarantees, funds transfers, safety of wealth,
facilitation in international trade etc., also form a substantial part of income of banks.
Islamic banking is a banking system which is established and controlled by the principles laid down
by Islamic Shariah. Interest free banking is a narrow concept denoting a number of banking
instruments or operations which avoid interest. Islamic banking institutions are established under the
Islamic shariah not only as an non interest based institution but also unethical and anti social practices.
In a practical sense, Islamic banking is system which involves the transformation of conventional
money lending into transactions based on tangible assets and real services based on the permissibly
Shariah principles. The model at which

The Theory Of Reasoned Action
Following this, (2) The Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) was developed by both Martin Fishbein
and Icek Ajzen, and it is one of the three classic persuasion models of psychology, and is also used in
communication discourse as a theory of understanding persuasive messages. It explains the
relationship between attitudes and behaviors with human action. This theory is also used to predict
how people will behave based on his/hers pre existing attitudes and behavioral intentions. The
decision to engage in a particular behavior is based on the outcomes the individual expects will come
as a result of performing the behavior. Behavioral intent is allegedly created or caused by two main
factors, which include our attitudes and our subjective norms. Some key constructs for this theory
include; attitude toward the behavior (outcome expectations and value of outcome expectations),
subjective norms (beliefs of others, and desire to comply with others). Last, we have the (3) Theory of
Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior, also known as (TPB), is a concept proposed by
Icek Ajzen that link beliefs and behavior. It was added to the Theory of Reasoned action to address the
inadequacies of the existing model. It is one of the most influential and popular conceptual
frameworks for the study of human actions. This theory proposes a model, which can measure how
human actions are guided and details the determinants of an individual s decision to enact a particular
behavior. Attitudes,

Personal Identity Argument
Unity as an Argument for Personal Identity
This essay will discuss the idea that personal identity persists over time. It will start by briefly
analysing some philosophical approaches to the problem, with views from René Descartes, G.W.
Leibniz, Thomas Reid, Ludwig Wittgenstein, John Perry and Derek Parfit. Also in the discussion, the
concept of psychological continuity will be presented, and also its reaches and limits. I will, then,
introduce the concept of unity as a consequence of personal continuity, and its compelling argument
for the persistence of personal identity. As a conclusion, some suggestions as to where the discussion
of personal identity should advance will be recommended.
1. A Fundamental Philosophical Problem

The same is true for the mind of the person s identity: is it possible to re identify a person based on
his/her continuity? How can I know if the continuity was affected or remained the same?
The first difficulty is thus revealed: if there is continuity, then, there must be something that continues.
In the proposal of continuity of personal identity it is not necessary that there be an element that
continues. Wittgenstein uses the thread analogy to explain this concept: [...] the strength of the thread
does not reside in the fact that some one fibre runs through its whole length, but in the overlapping of
many fibres. .
We have, then, an alternate proposition to that of substantial criteria to understand personal identity.
Over time, personal identity is no longer thought as what persists , but how it persists . We persist over
time because of certain continuity. But in what consists this

Good times become good memories, and bad times become good lessons. I have had many good and

get injured or even killed. I was so depressed when I finally understood that he would be gone for a

of my life, and he would miss my 1st year of school(kindergarten). I remember exactly where I was
when my parents told me he was going away, when we had his going away party, and when he
actually left. I remember all of my emotions. It was a nice sunny day and my parents decided we were
going out to dinner. Little did I know it was the dinner that would change my life. We decided to go to
Max Erma s because that was my favorite restaurant at the time when I was 4. They had the ice cream
bar, and I loved it. I was wearing a pretty dress because earlier that day I was playing outside and I got

Film Analysis Of The Film Rabbit Proof Fence
In the film, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, and set in the 10930s, one important idea is
the physical and emotional journey which involves discrimination, courage, determination and family.
This journey is experienced by three mixed race Aboriginal girls called Molly, Daisy and Gracie.
Molly is the protagonist, she is a leader and a decision maker who does not falter and uses her survival
skill and strength of will to overcome the challenges of her journey while looking after her sister
Daisy and cousin Gracie. A variety of film techniques is used in important settings to help the
audience understand the idea and how the film is effective as a whole. One of the most important
settings in the film is when the main character (the protagonist) Molly Craige is introduced to the
audience when she is being taught how to hunt with her family before being forcefully taken by the
authority in order to be made white. This scene is effective for two reasons. The first reason is that it
tells the audience about the character Molly. The audience learns that the character is a young half
caste aboriginal girl who lives in Jigalong, Australia with her family and is becoming independent.
The audience knows this because they see she is learning useful survival skills from her mother and
grandmother, the important skills of Aboriginal culture such as tracking. This is important to the rest
of the film because she is learning to provide for a family and herself. also, Molly then uses these
skills to outsmart Moodoo (an Aboriginal tracker that works for Moore River), This girl is clever. She
wants to go home. Furthermore, her skills are used to look after Gracie and Daisy on their harsh
journey from Moore River in which she travels 1500 miles (2000km) through unfamiliar territory to
reach their home and family in North Western Australia, with authorities closing in on them all the
way. This is the main reason why this scene is effective. The second reason why the scene is effective
is that uses filmmaking techniques really well. For example, the director uses the technique of
symbolism. We see this when a wide shot is used showing Gracie holding the fence and Molly asking
where the fence goes to. This is

The Importance Of Government Privacy
The government, that is responsible for protecting citizens, has the power to spy and monitor people.
Sometimes, surveillances are useful for catching criminals. Oftentimes, over monitoring individuals
may violates personal freedoms and sometimes the government over exceeds its boundaries to obtain
personal information. There are four types of privacy related activities that a federal, state, and local
government can have control over. The first activity deals with collection of information of individual
citizens. After the collection of this information, a government may store, manipulate, or use this data
against someone. Third, this collected information may spread to other agencies. Finally, sharing
personal information may disrupt someone s daily activities and solitude. There are various ways in
which the government and law enforcement can gather information of private citizens. For example,
census records collect information about households related to ethnicity, language, marital status, or
lifestyles. Other collection gathering methods like the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) collects names,
social security numbers, income, and assets of each US worker. Some collection records are also
necessary to detect potential criminals. For instance, the FBI National Crime Information Center 2000
(NCIC) contains 13 million records of potential stolen automobiles, stolen license plates, missing
guns, other stolen goods, and missing persons records. Another way to detect

The technological requirements for achieving AI at the level of the human mind may be on the near

in AI is not just for the sake of creating human like automatons. There are many potential applications
of AI that could revolutionize how human beings interact with computers. So much of how people live
their lives has changed since the commercialization of the computer. Every man, woman, and child

The main factor in the different ways that the two authors got the theme across was the craft moves. In
The Monkey s Paw W.W. Jacobs uses revealing actions to get the main theme across. In the story one

  • 3. Chastity In The Canterbury Tales Through the union of thirty four pilgrims on their journey to Canterbury for absolution, Chaucer pens the tales and interactions of the pilgrims of various ranks and ecclesiastic affiliation. He negotiates a social hierarchy different from that of the current governing structure through his acute understanding of the behaviors, beliefs, and pretenses that cemented such order. Chaucer s microcosm of caricaturized hierarchies criticizes the current social order defining the late 1300s, exposes the decadence of the disintegrating social structure, and hints at his idyllic version of a more correct institution. To understand Chaucer s lampoonery, it is imperative to understand the current rankings and privilege from whence he came. Born to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the supporting cast of women effort for mastery over their husbands; they abandon it the moment they attain it. In an era where chastity was expected and cherished, the Wife of Bath presents a refreshing alternative to such concepts. She boasts of her sexual proclivity and contends that male genitalia serves a greater purpose than simply urination. Her freeness in indulging in sexual activity and her multiple spouses speaks to her inner confidence and lack of privacy. Her character discusses the power relations between men and women and posits that women desire domination and control over men ( The Wife of Bath s Tale , 229); however, the domination that they crave is surface level in that women relapse into their subordinate stereotypes once they have been granted such control. In an analogous vein, the Nun s Priest Tale offers a varied stance from feminist s push for coexisting powers if not complete domination. When Chanticleer confides in his dear Pertelote about his premonition, she dismisses his qualms and accuses him of cowardice. Her desire for a courageous mate parallels men s objectification of women and exposes the equally one dimensional consideration given to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Catherine De Medici Influence On Ballet Ballet is a formalized and elegant form of dance with a fitting origin that traces back to Italian Renaissance courts during the 15th and 16th centuries. This style of dance quickly spread from Italy to France with the assistance of the aristocratic influence that came from Catherine de Medici, who succeeded in helping ballet develop even further. For example, Catherine helped develop ballet further by having her own piece of work, Le Paradis d Amour , be presented at her daughters wedding, where Marguerite de Valois was wedded to Henry of Navarre. Naturally, with ballet having an aristocratic background, aristocratic money was responsible for the dance styles initial stages of development in court ballet. Royalty was what dictated the literature, music, and ideas that was incorporated into ballet at the time. Ballet was also used as a prime source of entertainment for aristocrats. ... It was another formal entertainment, as it was commissioned by Catherine de Medici as a way to honor the Polish ambassadors who were visiting Paris at the time of Henry of Anjou s throning. Years went by when in 1581, Catherine de Medici commissioned yet another formal court ballet by the name of Ballet Comique de la Reine . She was not the one who organized it however, as it was her fellow citizen, Balthasar de Beaujoyeulx, who was responsible for presenting the first formal court that ever applied the principles of Baif s Academie, as it used poetry, music, dance, and set design to its advantage in creating a dramatic and memorable storyline. The development for this court ballet was funded by aristocrats of the time as well, for the fulfillment of not only their thirst for personal entertainment, for for their political propaganda needs as ... For this story has been a legendary epic that many generations of the Hindu culture have been modeling their society after, for over two thousand years. It has been an influential teaching for children and scholars of all ages because of its simplicity and exemplary concepts and virtues of the Hindu people. From childhood most Indians learn the characters and incidents of this epic and they furnish the morals, ideals and wisdom of common life. This epic helps to bind ... He handles the situation with remarkably patient and wise attitude and says to his stepmother, I gladly obey father s command ...Why, I would go even if you ordered it. . By doing this, he shows characteristics of great piety to his parents and the lack of desire to be a powerful and authoritative rich ruler, all while knowing that he is giving up his righteous turn to rule the kingdom since he is the oldest of the four sons of the king. Instead, he willingly goes off into exile forest infested with evil spirits whom he battles with the power of good and defeats. As in most of the Eastern world, this example of respect being paid to elders, parents, authorities (no matter what one is commanded to do) is very important in one s faith ; and the fact that one successfully wards off evil, gives him/her the title of a cultural model hero, just as seen in Rama s case. Rama s casual attitude about going off into the forest for fourteen years also shows his asceticism the will to give up his material, emotional and physical attachments. His peaceful and patient attitude towards his life is vivid due to his enduring wisdom. For he goes beyond the material and physical world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symbolism in A Doll House Jasmine Shughoury Stoltzfus IB World Lit 1 May 2014 WL#1 Word Count: 1,456 The Use of Symbolism in A Doll House Author Margaret Trudeau once said, I can t be a rose in any man s lapel ( I Can t Be ). This quote expresses exactly what was going through many women s minds during the 1800 s in Norway. Women had let their husbands control their lives for ages before the 1800 s. Soon, they could no longer stand being the rose in their husbands lapel. The women of Norway longed for freedom and began to rebel. Henrik Ibsen s play, A Doll House, displays what women were going through during that time. The three act play is about Nora, a seemingly typical, submissive housewife, and Torvald, Nora s condescending, banker husband. In his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nora realizes that she cannot stand living in Torvald s doll house anymore being his perfect little doll, and she wants to become more than just a doll, so she leaves. Nora as Torvald s doll clearly symbolizes how women were so submissive to their husbands during that time period in Norway. Another symbol Ibsen uses throughout the play is the macaroons as a symbol of women s independence, to show how they longed for freedom from their husbands. The first time the macaroons are used as a symbol is in the beginning of the play when Torvald does not allow Nora to eat macaroons. It is shown how Nora tries to hide them from her husband when she first arrives at home. When Torvald asks when she arrived at home she says, Just now. (Putting the macaroon bag in her pocket and wiping her mouth.) Do come in, Torvald, and see what I ve bought (Ibsen 44; Act 1). Torvald doesn t allow Nora to eat macaroons, so Nora tries to hide them from him. In the beginning of the play, Nora is submissive to Torvald and tries to be what he sees as a perfect spouse, although she doesn t get treated like a spouse should be treated. She is controlled by Torvald because in his eyes, a perfect spouse is a doll that he controls, which Nora tries to be, for example by hiding the macaroons so he doesn t know that she disobeyed him. Nevertheless, Nora begins to eat the macaroons more overtly later on in the play. Nora s first time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With Windows XP, all applications can be accessed from the Start menu, as well as in other ways (Kaufman, 2003). Another area that Macs are ahead of PC s in is stability. The Mac OS is built on the UNIX operating system, which is by far more stable that PC s own foundations. This results in fewer crashes with the system. The Mac systems are also more stable because Apple controls everything that is plugged into the system, and each system is complete straight out of the box. With PCs, there are more peripherals to plug in, and a wide variety of different add ons available, increasing the likelihood of device conflicts (Kaufman, 2003). • 25. Analysis Of Dante s The Of Hell Jacob Barnett Essay#2 Reid Title I think Dante s description of Hell is a wonderful work of literature. Dante uses numerous literary techniques to describe his envisionment of Hell to the reader. In my opinion, one of the most affective techniques used by Dante is symbolism. It would be a very difficult task to compile a brief list of significant symbols from the Cantos that we read in class. Dante utilized many symbols throughout each canto. Some of the symbols that Dante used in Inferno are well defined and easy to interpret, while other symbols are much more difficult to recognize and understand. For this paper, I will be analyzing multiple symbols from Dante s Inferno. Some of the symbols came from the Canto s that were included in class readings while others were depicted throughout the Canto s that were not assigned readings. I found that one of the major symbols that reoccurred throughout the poem is the idea of a continuing journey. This was depicted in the very first line of the poem when Dante s life was compared to a road or pathway which Dante is halfway through. The specificity of the piece noting that Dante is halfway through further emphasizes the symbolism of continuing a journey by out rightly stating that he has begun but not yet finished. Therefore, when Dante strays from the intended path in the beginning of the first Canto he has symbolically strayed from the right kind of life . It is thought that the purpose of changing these symbols, it was not to hide the message, but make it seem like it was more dignified. However, evidence of cryptography has been traced back to the most of the major early civilizations. Arthasharta, an ancient Indian treatise, helps tell of an espionage service and mentions secret writing that their spies had used on assignements. Julias Caesar also had his very own cipher. It was a form of encryption to relay secret messages to his generals that were on the war front. It is a substitution cipher, and the most widely mentioned in history. A substitution cipher is where a plain text message would have each character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Huckleberry Finn Impact On Society IMPACT OF MARK TWAIN?S NOVEL Impact of Mark Twain?s Novel Tiger Qu Shenzhen Middle School ? Mark Twain is a pen name of Samuel Longhorne Clemens, one of the greatest novelist in the twentieth century. As an American writer who was born in Missouri, Twain worked mainly as a printer for local newspapers and as a riverboat pilot in his early career. Such experience provided him the setting for two of his great works: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876) and its sequel, The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn(1885), ?the great American novel?. These two works reflected Twain?s attitude towards slavery, civil rights and anti imperialism. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,?The Adventures of Tom Sawyer?concerns itself primarily with painting an idyllic picture of boyhood life along the Mississippi River. Though Twain satirizes adult conventions throughout? The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,?he leaves untouched certain larger issues that? The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?explores critically: the problem of slavery, was mentioned indirectly in the Tom but was directly depicted in Huckleberry by using a character: Jim. • 31. The Theory Of Reasoned Action Following this, (2) The Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) was developed by both Martin Fishbein and Icek Ajzen, and it is one of the three classic persuasion models of psychology, and is also used in communication discourse as a theory of understanding persuasive messages. It explains the relationship between attitudes and behaviors with human action. This theory is also used to predict how people will behave based on his/hers pre existing attitudes and behavioral intentions. The decision to engage in a particular behavior is based on the outcomes the individual expects will come as a result of performing the behavior. Behavioral intent is allegedly created or caused by two main factors, which include our attitudes and our subjective norms. Some key constructs for this theory include; attitude toward the behavior (outcome expectations and value of outcome expectations), subjective norms (beliefs of others, and desire to comply with others). Last, we have the (3) Theory of Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior, also known as (TPB), is a concept proposed by Icek Ajzen that link beliefs and behavior. It was added to the Theory of Reasoned action to address the inadequacies of the existing model. It is one of the most influential and popular conceptual frameworks for the study of human actions. This theory proposes a model, which can measure how human actions are guided and details the determinants of an individual s decision to enact a particular behavior. Attitudes, ... • 34. Personal Identity Argument Unity as an Argument for Personal Identity This essay will discuss the idea that personal identity persists over time. It will start by briefly analysing some philosophical approaches to the problem, with views from René Descartes, G.W. Leibniz, Thomas Reid, Ludwig Wittgenstein, John Perry and Derek Parfit. Also in the discussion, the concept of psychological continuity will be presented, and also its reaches and limits. I will, then, introduce the concept of unity as a consequence of personal continuity, and its compelling argument for the persistence of personal identity. As a conclusion, some suggestions as to where the discussion of personal identity should advance will be recommended. 1. A Fundamental Philosophical Problem The attempt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same is true for the mind of the person s identity: is it possible to re identify a person based on his/her continuity? How can I know if the continuity was affected or remained the same? The first difficulty is thus revealed: if there is continuity, then, there must be something that continues. In the proposal of continuity of personal identity it is not necessary that there be an element that continues. Wittgenstein uses the thread analogy to explain this concept: [...] the strength of the thread does not reside in the fact that some one fibre runs through its whole length, but in the overlapping of many fibres. . We have, then, an alternate proposition to that of substantial criteria to understand personal identity. Over time, personal identity is no longer thought as what persists , but how it persists . I have had many good and bad memories but this is one of the most memorable ones I have ever had. The most important and vivid memory that seems like it was just yesterday was when my dad had to go to Iraq in 2009 for a year. At the time I was 5 and didn t realize the risks of him going over seas with the Army. He could get injured or even killed. I was so depressed when I finally understood that he would be gone for a whole year. He would leave when I was 5 and come back when I was 6. He would miss a whole year of my life, and he would miss my 1st year of school(kindergarten). I remember exactly where I was when my parents told me he was going away, when we had his going away party, and when he actually left. I remember all of my emotions. It was a nice sunny day and my parents decided we were going out to dinner. Little did I know it was the dinner that would change my life. We decided to go to Max Erma s because that was my favorite restaurant at the time when I was 4. They had the ice cream bar, and I loved it. I was wearing a pretty dress because earlier that day I was playing outside and I got very dirty. After deciding where to eat, we went inside, and I had a bath to get cleaned up. • 37. Film Analysis Of The Film Rabbit Proof Fence In the film, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, and set in the 10930s, one important idea is the physical and emotional journey which involves discrimination, courage, determination and family. This journey is experienced by three mixed race Aboriginal girls called Molly, Daisy and Gracie. Molly is the protagonist, she is a leader and a decision maker who does not falter and uses her survival skill and strength of will to overcome the challenges of her journey while looking after her sister Daisy and cousin Gracie. A variety of film techniques is used in important settings to help the audience understand the idea and how the film is effective as a whole. One of the most important settings in the film is when the main character (the protagonist) Molly Craige is introduced to the audience when she is being taught how to hunt with her family before being forcefully taken by the authority in order to be made white. This scene is effective for two reasons. The first reason is that it tells the audience about the character Molly. The audience learns that the character is a young half caste aboriginal girl who lives in Jigalong, Australia with her family and is becoming independent. The audience knows this because they see she is learning useful survival skills from her mother and grandmother, the important skills of Aboriginal culture such as tracking. This is important to the rest of the film because she is learning to provide for a family and herself. also, Molly then uses these skills to outsmart Moodoo (an Aboriginal tracker that works for Moore River), This girl is clever. She wants to go home. Furthermore, her skills are used to look after Gracie and Daisy on their harsh journey from Moore River in which she travels 1500 miles (2000km) through unfamiliar territory to reach their home and family in North Western Australia, with authorities closing in on them all the way. This is the main reason why this scene is effective. The second reason why the scene is effective is that uses filmmaking techniques really well. For example, the director uses the technique of symbolism. We see this when a wide shot is used showing Gracie holding the fence and Molly asking where the fence goes to. This is ... • 38. The Importance Of Government Privacy The government, that is responsible for protecting citizens, has the power to spy and monitor people. Sometimes, surveillances are useful for catching criminals. Oftentimes, over monitoring individuals may violates personal freedoms and sometimes the government over exceeds its boundaries to obtain personal information. There are four types of privacy related activities that a federal, state, and local government can have control over. The first activity deals with collection of information of individual citizens. After the collection of this information, a government may store, manipulate, or use this data against someone. Third, this collected information may spread to other agencies. Finally, sharing personal information may disrupt someone s daily activities and solitude. There are various ways in which the government and law enforcement can gather information of private citizens. For example, census records collect information about households related to ethnicity, language, marital status, or lifestyles. Other collection gathering methods like the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) collects names, social security numbers, income, and assets of each US worker. Some collection records are also necessary to detect potential criminals. For instance, the FBI National Crime Information Center 2000 (NCIC) contains 13 million records of potential stolen automobiles, stolen license plates, missing guns, other stolen goods, and missing persons records. Even though they have the same theme the two authors get this theme across in two completely different ways. With the story The Monkey s Paw the author uses the death of Herbert (the son of one of main character) to reveal the theme, while in The Keys of Destiny the author uses the keys of destiny to get the same effect. The main reason that the themes are presented differently is because of the craft moves that are being used. For example, in The Monkey s Paw the author W.W. Jacobs used revealing actions and in The Keys of Destiny the author Neil Philip uses symbolism. The main factor in the different ways that the two authors got the theme across was the craft moves. In The Monkey s Paw W.W. Jacobs uses revealing actions to get the main theme across. In the story one of Mr. White s friends tried to throw out a mummified paw of a monkey because he claims it was cursed. Disregarding that it was cursed and can cause consequences if he uses it he asks for money which he would regret later in the story.
