John Schoenherr s Owl Moon
Owl Moon written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr, takes the reader for a winter
walk through the woods on a moonlit night. Father and son trudge slowly and silently through a
snow covered forest in hopes of finding owls. It is a story of patience, perseverance, but most of
all hope. When you go owling you don t need words or warm or anything but hope .
The illustrations for Owl Moon are done by John Schoenherr. The illustrator chose pen with
watercolors on d Arches paper. D Arches paper is a natural grain which resembles handmade
paper. This paper creates resistance to scratching and clarification of colors. The illustrator clearly
shows his love for wildlife and details. Schoenherr s illustrations make us feel that ... Show more

Older students can dissect an owl pellet. We can take the lesson further and explore what animals
stay in the winter and how they survive. Since this is a story of what a boy did with his father,
perhaps the students can discuss or write about an activity they have done with a parent,
grandparent, or friend. I remember writing a short story when I was seven, about snowmobiling
with my grandfather. I drew a picture with the story; I think my mother laminated it.
I chose Owl Moon because it reminded so much of where I live. Although I have never been on
an owling , I have had many opportunities to hear them. The words of the author and the illustrator
transported me to our meadow path. Our feet crunched over the crisp snow , reminds me when my
mother, sisters and I went to the meadow to make plaster of paris molds of deer prints.
Jane Yolen is an author and editor of over 280 children s books, Owl Moon being one of her
most notable works. Yolen graduated from Smith College and at the age of 22 published her
first book called, Pirates in Petticoats . Jane has been nominated many times as a finalist for the
Nebula Award. On an interesting note, Yolen wrote a book in 1991, called Wizard s Hall. Her hero
was called Henry who had a red headed best friend and a girl also as his best friend. They lived at
a wizard school that included talking pictures, etc. Yolen commented about J.K. Rowlings, I m

The Human Language And Modern Language
physically there. The same goes with majority of the animals like dogs, cats, bears, and wolves.
However bees, specifically honeybees through their honey bee dancing, have demonstrated that
they have a rather limited amount of displacement. Instead of vocally expressing it, the bees use
their body to communicate as they can physically point out the general location of where the
food is located. Ir is rather symbolic. This surpasses the here and now barrier that limit many
animals. But, the honey bee s form of communication does not allow them to speak of the past or
think abstractly, so it is a rather limited useage of displacement. There has not been any animal
that can use displacement to the degree in which is used in human language. Traditional
transmission: The human language has a very complex structure, one that comprises of systems
such as grammar, syntax, and phonemes. Language acquisition in its simplest terms is the
process by which humans acquire the ability to comprehend language and perceive the sounds
made as words. We are one species, yet there are over 100+ languages in the world. We are all
born the same, without a language and it is our innate ability to learn one from our surroundings.
Our language is largely shaped by culture and social settings. Culture and language are intertwined
together. As we grow older, our language becomes more diverse and we refine it with everyday
usage while incorporating the new terminology we are exposed to. If a child

Abstract
Background
There has been a continuous growth in the number of New Zealanders on dialysis, with the
total number increasing from 1770 cases in 2004 to over 2500 cases by the end of 2013
(ANZDATA Registry, 2015; McDonald, 2015). Among individuals over the age of 65 years,
the prevalence has increased by more than four folds, and is expected to continue to increase
in the future (Madhan, 2004; ANZDATA Registry, 2015). Prolonged life expectancy,
advancements in medical technology and subsequently inflated public expectations have
significantly contributed to increased acceptance of dialysis among elderly individuals
(Kurella et al, 2007). However, opinions regarding recommendation and initiation of dialysis
in the elderly population vary significantly among renal teams, mainly due to persistent
uncertainties surrounding the outcome of dialysis therapy in elderly patients with end stage
renal disease (ESRD) (Carson et al,

Urban Legend Of The Bloody Mary
I m here to tell you about the urban legend of the Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary is a urban legend
that first originated in in the early 1960s as an adolescent party game, and the person would take
a candle or a flashlight and go into a dark room and look into a mirror and say a chant, The exact
chant is unknown . After you say the chant a unknown amount of times something would appear
and or happen. For example in the Poems of Robert Burns, published in 1787: Is a great example of
a bloody mary ritual.
Take a candle, and go alone to a looking glass; eat an apple before it, and some traditions say, you
should comb your hair all the time; the face of your conjugal companion, to be, will be seen in the
glass, as if peeping over your shoulder. I m going to explain to you where this urban legend
originated from and why i believe its story has been altered and changed so many times over the
years. Also how the legend stands in today s world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this is because folklorists did not really start recording examples of urban legends until 1970s.
But this Urban legend is based around the idea of piering into a mirror and being able to see or

The Effect Of A Trebuchet Arm Length And Counterweight...
Effect of a Trebuchet Arm Length or Counterweight Mass on Projectile Distance A trebuchet is a
siege weapon most commonly used in the middle ages. It uses gravity to propel an object. There are
competitions held today called Pumpkin Chunkin which use trebuchets to launch pumpkins as far
as possible. The common question is what the dimensions should be when making it. Should the
arm be longer or shorter? Should the counterweight be heavier or lighter? These questions have
been asked by competitors in trebuchet competition as well as engineers. And this is why the
project is in the field of mechanical engineering. The way a Trebuchet works is that a counter weight
drops which pulls the arm forward and at the point of takeoff a pin releases the object that is being
projected. The counterweight drops using gravity and is attached to the arm causing it to fly up and
launch the object. Engineers have had previous experience in this field because of the world wide
trebuchet launching competitions. One example of engineers making this trebuchet are the
engineers from team NASAW in the Pumpkin Chunkin competition. Team NASAW has a trebuchet
with a heavy weight and a long arm. There arm and weight start next to each other at the beginning.
The weight drops forward and like a whip the arm swings around and fires the pumpkin into the air
at insane speeds. They are one of the top competitors in the competition and have proven countless
times that the design works wonderfully.

Women In Sociological Research
Society has its way of creating and enforcing its own norms. Once society creates an impact, it
can be difficult to dispute. Women are seen and made into shopaholics by the media, and they
use a lot of their resources to broadcast their messages to women. However in my research, I
found a glimpse of something different. In Kohl s online website, it shows that they actually have
more inventory for men than they do for women. This may be a slim margin of 1000 items but it
disputes the popular options on clothing being catered towards women. The messages of shopping
may be broadcasted for women but they are not only for women. In society, each genderhas roles
they are made to fit into, which is a functionalist perspective. These clothes have

Compare And Contrast Mako And Marmuk
The Life of a Woman
Sexuality is a complicated and essential part of the human experience. However,
expression of female sexuality has been perceived as a threat to men throughout history by many
societies and thus repressed. This, coupled with the objectification of women, culminates in a
female struggle to be recognized and treated as a human. This conflict is apparent throughout
different time periods, as seen in both Cruel Story of Youth and The Life of Oharu . Cruel
Story of Youth takes place in 1960 and focuses on Kiyoshi and Mako, a couple trying to find
their own niche in the world. The Life of Oharu is centered on Oharu and her pursuit of true
love in late 17th century Japan. After discovering and expressing their ... Show more content on

After Kiyoshi saves Mako
from the advances of a businessman, he forcibly has sex with her and detachedly tells her he

staving off her boredom. In contrast, Oharu has a forbidden, passionate affair with a samurai who
truly loves her and is considered far beneath her rank. They consummate their love one night and
are discovered in the morning. Her lover tells her the key to her happiness is to marry for true
love before being executed. Oharu and her family are shamed and exiled from Kyoto. Similarly,
Mako moves in with Kiyoshi and is considered dead to her family. Just as they can no longer
return home, Oharu and Mako are no longer virgins and cannot return to their former state of
purity and naivety. Oharu is blamed by her father and is never forgiven for the ruin of their
family. On the other hand, Mako is estranged from her sister, Yuki, who formerly lead a similar
sexually liberated lifestyle and bitterly warns Mako against it. By alienating them from

Formal Social Control And Informal Social Deviance
In society, there are sanctions that are used to prevent, stop, and punish behavior viewed as bad
or unacceptable. These unaccepted behaviors are called social deviance, and these sanctions are
enforced through two forms of social control: formal social control, and informal social control.
Both of these forms of social control work towards achieving the same goal: discouraging
violations of society s accepted behaviors, or social deviance, and punishing those who do. But
what is the difference between these two forms of social control? How are these social control
mechanisms carried out? Formal social control is a form of control that is carried out by authorized
agents, such as police officers, judges, school administrators,... Show more content on

In this case, judges and religious officials are the agents of formal social control. These laws and
rules work well in terms of stopping this unwanted behavior because of the penalties that follow
if one deviates. Whether one agrees with the military hair rules and laws about same sex
marriage or not, they will often follow them, as they will other rules and laws, as to avoid the
punishments that would follow if they were to break them. Informal social control is a form of
social control used casually to enforce norms (Schaefer 149). Informal social control is not
enforced with rules or laws. Typically, informal social control agents are just everyday people.
When people notice social deviance, they will use informal social control mechanisms
including smiles, laughter, a raised eyebrow, and ridicule (Schaefer 149) to combat this
deviance. For example, it is widely accepted in the United States that one should walk on the
right side of the hallway, sidewalk, aisle, etc. However, there is no formally written rule or law
stating that walking on the left side is unacceptable. Therefore, when someone walks on the left,
there is no formal form of punishment. However, this person will likely be met with dirty looks or
raised eyebrows from the people around them. Therefore, because of this informal social control,
people generally adhere to unwritten rule of walking on the right side. Similarly, it is widely
accepted that people should hold the

Fear And Angst Disorder ( Gad )
Fear and angst can often pursue us all from time to time. The worry over a big meeting that
could make or break your career, or the fear of falling off the top of a cliff, are both rational and
healthy fears. But when you start to worry over a simple meet up, or nothing in specific, then it s
possible you have an anxietydisorder. While there are seven to eight different forms of anxiety
disorders, Generalized Anxiety Disorder(GAD), which is an anxiety disorderin which one has
constant, overwhelming anxiety over... everything, and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), which
is an anxiety disorder where one has anxiety only over social situations (such as public speaking,
parties, going to school or work, etc.) are the two most common. Despite the fact that they are
often viewed as very different diagnosis, GAD and SAD have very similar symptoms,
treatments, and affect near the same amount and type of people. Because GAD is a mental
disorder and affects your brain, which controls everything you do, it does have some physical
symptoms. These can include restlessness, a faster than average heartbeat, muscle tension, and
lightheadedness. Often times, somebody with GAD will have a lack of sleep because they are
worrying over the next day, and thinking over the possible negative outcomes. This keeps the
brain awake , not allowing much sleep. GAD can also cause bad dreams, that could wake
somebody up. A fast heartbeat is caused by the constant worry, where the brain sends signals to

Slave Girl Research Paper
Linda s account of the incidents she encountered during her 27 years as a slave shows us the
harsh, terrible, fearful conditions in which slaves lived. Especially, the life endured by slave girls.
In fact, these girls grew up side by side with the children of their masters, but at age fifteen they
would become subjects of the morbid attention of their masters. If these girls were blessed with
beauty, then they would endured even harder situations due to the attraction that their masters had
towards them. Linda recalls how she used to play with her master s daughter until she turned
fifteen. After that, everything changed drastically because her master started to have sexual
attraction towards her. However, already at a young age, slave girls... Show more content on

Another disturbing fact was that slave girls, who were abused by their masters, were not
allowed to fall in love. In fact, Linda described as she fell in love with a free black man, who was
an intelligent and religious man, who actually wanted to buy her in order to save her and marry
her. However, he had no power over the decision of the master, and if the master did not consent
on selling his slave girl, then there was nothing he, as a black man, could do. And even if he ended
up marrying her, he would not be able to protect her from the master, and their children would have
to follow the condition of the mother in slavery. Sadly, this shows us how most slave girls had no
way out of the conditions of abuse they lived in. Linda decided to describe what she went through
because she wanted the North to be aware of the terrible situations endured by slaves in the South.
In fact, slaves who escaped to the North would too often be picked up by northerners who would

First Horse Narrative
I ve owned a pony since I was six years old, but I ve been around horses all my life. From a young
age, I had always thought that I was a horse guru. I was confident with horses and never doubted
my ability for a second. I believed that I was a natural and because of this, nothing could ever
wrong. This was the mindset I had before my first horseshow. The first horse I had ever shown was
a dark brown quarter horse. She stood 15 hands tall, meaning there was 60 inches between the
ground and her shoulder, which is a perfect size horse for a nine year old. Her show name was
Miss Dark Secret, but I called her Secret. I was leasing her from a familyfriend at the time, and after

I steered Secret to the rail, whispering good girl as a way of calming us both down. However,
her attention was not focused on me, but on her surroundings. She perked her ears up at every
sound she heard and whinnied desperately to her friends in hope of a reply. Each whinny
resonated through her body and sent a chill up my spine. Whipping her head around, Secret
whinnied again, and I tried to make eye contact with my mom for reassurance, but I could not
spot her in the crowd of people. My anxiety was getting worse and Secret could sense that, which
only made her more nervous. When we were told to trot our horses, Secret s behavior became
even worse. She started to hop up with her front legs projected above the ground and her back
legs following through with little kicks, as if she were preparing to buck. She continued to do
this as I passed by the stands. I glanced around at the people watching me, only to find them
shaking their heads disapprovingly and whispering to one another. I looked up at the cloudy sky,
feeling miniscule on top of this large, anxious horse. The fear that had built up inside me made
the ground look considerably farther away than it really was and the probability of me being
thrown to the ground seemed significantly high. Secret continued her little hops as we rounded the
arena and finally Meghan ran into the center of the ring, just in case Secret did end up throwing
me to the ground. When my class finally ended, we were all told to bring our horses into the center
of the ring and line them up. Dismounting Secret at last, I was flooded with the feeling of

Paleo Diet and weight watchers
For Children and adolescents, the 2007 08 National Health Survey results indicates that 24.9% of
children aged between 5 and 17 years are overweight or obese. 25.8% of boys and 24% of girls are
either overweight or obese (Department of Health and Ageing, 2015). A FAD weight lossdiet is any
diet that promises fast weight loss without a scientific basis. These diets often eliminate entire

Transformation Of Bilbo Baggins In The Hobbit By J. R.
The Hobbit is a book written by J.R.R. Tolkien that has entertained people for decades. The Hobbit
is an adventure fiction story. The main theme is the development and transformation of Bilbo
Baggins into a hero and an outgoing person. I chose this theme because at the beginning of the
story, Bilbo is a person that only worries about himself and only focuses on the comforts in life;
and is very introverted. Towards the ending of the story, Bilbo transforms into a hero due to the
situations he encounters.
The setting of the story occurs in a fictional place called Middle Earth. We don t know the year the
story takes place in. Consisting in northern Middle Earth is the Shire, the lush pasture in which
hobbits reside, along with the western lands. The Misty Mountains run directly through northern
Middle Earth from north to south. Beyond the Misty Mountains to the east lies the dreaded forest
of Mirkwood, which is of immense size. To the north of Mirkwood lie the Grey Mountains, which
are not very important in this book. To the east of Mirkwood lies the Running River and Lake
Town, and the Lonely Mountain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gender In The Film Tomboy
Celine Sciamma s 2011 film Tomboy both repudiates the idea that gender has an innate basis, as
well as suggests the futility of endeavoring to transgress gender norms, due to them being
embedded to society, in addition to being internalized by people. In this paper, I will initially
elaborate on scenes from the film depicting Laure s adoption of what would be societally viewed
as malebehaviors, which results in conveying the message that external gendered performance and
behavior are not necessarily compatible with one s natural sex. In other words, Sciamma implies
that genderis not inherent, nor is it in immanent conjunction with sex. I will then proceed by
commenting on the way in which the film sheds light on the vast paradox that lies... Show more

As Darren Waldron observes, Laure s behavior indicates that external codes of what is universally
considered masculine conduct, are incorporated into her outward demeanor, thereby indicating that
those signs have in fact no innate grounding in boys . For instance, in several scenes, the audience
witnesses Laure casually engage in playing football with the rest of the neighborhood boys, in
which she excels equally well, spit, and sprint. Furthermore, I would suggest that the fact that, in
one particular scene, Laure gets involved in a physical fight with another boy and overpowers him
using techniques she has carefully observed, further challenges the assumption of the existence of a
supposedly predetermined set of gender based behaviors. Furthermore, more importantly, a
momentous scene that takes place in the bathroom, where Laure adds a prosthetic object to make it
seem like a penis for the purpose of continuing to pose as Mickael in a pool meeting with the other
children, strongly suggests perhaps the most quintessential signifier of masculinity, the phallus,
may in fact as well be constructed. It also further enervates the power that biological sex
supposedly holds over determining the identity and actual mental state of being of a person.

The Financial Performance Of Tesco Plc
In this report I will be analysing and evaluating the financial performance of Tesco PLC over the
past 5 years (2010 to 2014).
Background Company Information
Tesco was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen, he originally started up his business as a market stall
selling surplus groceries in the East End of London. The company is now not only a grocery store
but also a general merchandise retailer, selling clothes, furniture, electrical items and wide range of
other products and services including Tesco Bank, Tesco Mobile, and Blinkbox video on demand
service. Tesco currently operates in 12 countries around the world, employ over 500,000 people
and serve tens of millions of customers every week both in store and online.
Tesco became a private limited company in 1932 and in 1947 Tesco Stores (Holdings) PLC floated
on the stock exchange with a share price of 25p per share. Tesco were interested in what their
customers buying habits were in order to try and evolve their company so they decided to closely
watch customers behaviour and this led to the introduction of the Clubcard scheme in 1995 and a
banking service in 1997. This allowed them to collect customer data and personalise their discounts
in response to what they bought and this made them the UK s top supermarket. Aggressive
negotiation with suppliers helped them grow their market share from a mere 7% in 1971 to 31%
in 2007 making them the UK s top supermarket, which they still are today, (as according to the

The period between 1813 and July of 1814, known as the Second Republic, is in reality the
Terrible Year of Venezuelan History. The War to Death decree creates a furor, and the combats and
indecisive battles, won or lost, follow one upon the other with increasing rapidity. Despite important
victories, BolГvar as well as General Santiago MariГ±o (who had previously liberated the eastern
areas of the nation) find themselves obliged to give way in the face of a more numerous adversary
led by the royalist JosГ© TomГЎs Boves.
Boves emerges victorious from the La Puerta battle (June of 1814), and the patriots are forced to
evacuate Caracas. A massive emigration towards the east takes place. There, BolГvar and MariГ±o
see their authority challenged by their own companions at arms. The Liberator finds again fraternal
asylum in Nueva Granada, where he intervenes with some measures of success in internal political
struggles which enable the city of BogotГЎ to find a place in the newly established United

Outdoor Grills
In Texas, we use our outdoor grills all the time. With the exception of a handful of really bad
winter weather days, we can cook outside most of the time. That means we can have steak,
chicken, seafood and veggies from the grill pretty much any time we get a craving for smoky,
grilled food.
If you re one of those people who loves lighting up your charcoal grill at every opportunity, you
ve probably struggled to light your charcoal briquets and to keep them lit. Using charcoal lighter
fluid has always been an easy, if somewhat scarily combustible, way to get briquets to catch fire;
but if you ve used it and you know you have you know it somehow didn t feel like the right thing to
do. Here are 3 reasons why you should never pick up a bottle of lighter fluid again:
1 Charcoal Lighter Fluid Affects Food Taste
Using charcoal lighter fluid to get your briquets burning can impart an unpleasant, chemical taste
to grilled food. One way to avoid an excess of lighter fluid flavor to food cooked on outdoor grills
is to allow the lighter fluid to evaporate for at least 30 minutes. Unfortunately, this won t eliminate
all of the bad taste and smell, which isn t great when you want your family and friends to get the
full flavor of your grilled food.
2 Chimney Starters Exist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you ve tried it, you know how hard it is to keep briquets in any kind of mound and you know
that piling them up only works about half of the time. That s why grill chimneys were invented.
Grill chimneys are metal cylinders with handles that keep the briquets piled up inside so that they
really can work as a team to catch fire. If you buy the right kind of chimney, one with ample
charcoal capacity and strategically placed vents that allow oxygen to easily reach the briquets, you
ll never have to buy lighter fluid

Some scholars criticise Cidade de Deus / City of God (2002) on the grounds that the film
represents violence and poverty as a spectacle and fails to relate these issues to the wider socio

The spectator is thrown into the reckless and expeditious world of the characters, creating a sense
of hedonistic abandon and excitement. The chase leads to the first of the dramatic scenes within
City of God. A heavily armed stand off between Lil ZГ© s gang, and the police ensues and we are
introduced to Rocket who is caught between the two. It is here that the shot rotates 360 degrees,
spinning us into the past, leaving the spectator keen to understand more. It is this exhilarating
sequence of editing and camera work that has led some viewers to brand the film an indulgent
exhibition of romanticized ghetto life. However, the producers of the film claim that the effects are
present in order to assist the telling of a universally human story and are intended to capture its
realism[9]. KГЎtia Lund commented on the rotation shot and remarked that the critics would say
this is a film from Hollywood, they re doing The Matrix, these fancy shots. And the cost of the shot
was...$20. Just a guy pulling a dolly [10].
There are three central sections within the film. Although they are consistent in character and often
in circumstance, they should be seen as separate narratives. Each narrative represents the changing
nature of the favela over a decade and contains its own visual style and mise en scene. It is through

Factors That Affect The Water
Drag is a common force in the universe, and occurs in everyday life especially in water. Mr.
Redman states that, forward is a propelling force; drag is a force that hinders that motion or is the
force acting in opposition to the motion of an object. Parachutes are a great example of this force;
when air is trapped in the nylon of a parachute, it creates dragslowing the velocity of the
parachutist. Water drag is acted upon swimmers at all times. Hydrodynamics show that materials of
the swimmers closely affect drag. Swimmers wear sleek swim caps, shave their body, and wear
tightly fitted swimsuits all to reduce friction. Skill level and technique of a swimmer also affect drag
resistance. Water is 800 times denser than air, drag forces... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Trucks experience air resistance due to their big and boxy frame. Air constantly pushes against the
shipping containers. Engineers have found a way to combat such a force by adding large hoods or
visors, in which the cab and trailer are connected. The back of the truck is built in a streamlined
fashion, like a plane, to completely extinguish swirling air (Parola, 2000). Another example of
drag is frictional forces. Trains, for example, use wheels to move along tracks. These wheels
encounter friction when stopping. Metal on metal gains immense friction and may become hot.
This drag is common among cars and other ground transportation. Engineers have looked to the
future to solve this drag. MAGLEV trains are levitating trains that use magnets for propulsion.
This way friction drag is eliminated, yet air resistance is still a factor. To cut down on air
resistance, MAGLEV trains incorporate aerodynamic principles such as a slim line body to cut
through air, that way the force of air is evenly distributed around the body. Drag also occurs in
water called, fluid friction or fluid resistance. Boats, ships, subs, whales, dolphin, and swimmers
all go through fluid rest incense. Much like air resistance, fluid pushes against the direction in a
object is moving. And again much like air resistance, a streamlined body will reduce this drag.
Submarines were once built like boats only they were underwater. Until 1953 when the us army

The United States Enforced Laws About Having Kids
How would most people feel if the United States enforced laws about having kids? If we as a
society don t change either how we live or the laws involving children, we will have generations
of people using Uncle Sam as a crutch. The rate of births among women ages 15 to 44 increased
by 1% from 2013 to 2014, the first increase since 2007, which might be a trend that if we don t
fix this problem soon so many more might grow up that way. One in five children receives food
stamps or some kind of aid so says the census bureau. Mandatory laws on having children should be
enforced in the United Statesbecause of the high amount of government supported children, and the
number of questionable parent(s). First reason, the number of government supported children is
enormous, and with a projected baby boom on its way after the previous recession. To fix that the
government could put in place laws restricting the number of children a familycan have. The
government could either restrict a family s number of children based on total income. As in low
class to middle low class families have one or two children. Where at the same time the high
class, and middle high class families might have two to four children. Or the government could
put in a law for everyone. They could much like china did and only allow one child to be born. Or
base it off of the number of parents raising the children. One parent, one child, or two parents, to
two children. Instead of putting laws on childbirth, they

Role of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
The inspector is an enigmatic character; playing one of the biggest parts in the drama.
He is described on his entrance as creating an impression of massiveness, solidity and
purposefulness. He is a man in his fifties, dressed in a plain darkish suit... He speaks carefully,
weightily, and has a disconcerting habit of looking hard at the person he addresses before actually

He leaves the family with the message We are responsible for each other and warns them of the fire
and blood and anguish that will result if they do not pay attention to what he has taught them.
All this mystery suggests that the Inspector is not a real person. I think this is where the pun on
the name Google comes in. In my opinion, Priestly has used the inspectors name in reference to
the word ghoul , suggesting that the inspector is an enigmatic, supernatural force of some kind. I
also believe that the inspector could represent something else; like an entity such as God, the
world s conscience or even Priestley s ideas and opinions on his 1912 society.
The Inspector himself adds drama to the play, he controls the pace and tension by dealing with
one line of enquiry at a time. Slowly the story of Eva s life is unravelled, like in a whodunit . He
is in command at the end of Act I and the start of Act 2, and the end of Act 2 and the start of Act
3. Altogether he is a brooding, inescapable presence, very much in control. He is very mysterious
and seems to know what is going to happen before it does. Because of this, he stands as the most
powerful, important person in the room, capable to manipulating the other people to make them say
and do what he wants.

How Does The Consumption Of A Particular Energy Drink (...

Heart Rate IA
Research Question
How does the consumption of a particular energy drink (Red Bull) affect a human s heart rate
during exercise?
Bakground Information The human heart has four chambers: two thin walled atria, which receive
blood, and two thick walled ventricles, which pump blood. While veins carry blood into the atria,
arteries carry blood away from ventricles. The atria and ventricles work collaboratively, alternating
contraction and relaxation to pump blood through your heart. A human s heartbeat is triggered by
electrical impulses that travel down a specific pathway through the heart. The sinoatrial node, also
know as the heart s pacemaker, is a small bundle of specialized cells located in the right atrium,
where the impulse starts. This electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and causes
contraction. This forces blood into the ventricles. Therefore, the SA node sets the rate and rhythm
of your heartbeat. The atrioventricular node is a cluster of cells between the atria and ventricles
and acts as a gate that slows down the electrical signal before it enters the ventricles. This delay
allows the atria to contract before the ventricles do. The His Purkinje Network is a pathway of
fibers that send impulses to the muscular walls of the ventricles and cause them to contract. This
again, forces blood out of the heart to the lungs and body. Then the SA node fires another

How Is Corruption Shown In Animal Farm
In all of recorded history, there has never been a time where a society has existed in absolute
equality. George Orwell displays this truth through his book Animal Farm. Animal Farm is a
fictitious novel that follows the story of animals that strive, but fail, to create and live in a truly
equal society due to ingrained social statuses and corruption. Orwell s Animal Farm a thinly veiled
allegory for the Russian Revolution warns of the dangers blind acceptance and the allowance of

Denzel Washington Rhetorical Speech
In order to deliver a successful speech, there are countless qualities that must be present to reach
both the emotional and logical sense within a crowd. Through the use of rhetorical strategies
and by remaining credible, a speaker or an author can connect with their audience; getting them
involved with their writing. In May of 2011, a man by the name of Denzel Washington used
multiple rhetorical strategies to deliver a graduation speech at the University of Pennsylvania.
While revealing all of the difficult times that he had gone through while in college and
discovering what career he wanted to pursue, he inspired millions of people, leaving a profound
effect upon the world. Now, with millions of fans, Washington is a famous actor that has starred
in numerous movies such as Courage Under Fire, Crimson Tide, and Malcolm X. Washington,
along with the authors: Aristotle, Peter Elbow, and Donald Murray, and many others, have made
a big difference in the world, simply by using rhetorical strategies. The rhetorical strategy,
repetition, not only works to get the audience involved, it also makes the point of the speech clear
and helps appeal to the audience s emotion. Washington explained that he honestly never
understood why he would want to fall back on something, instead, he wanted to fall forward,
therefore; he would be able to see where he s actually going to fall. Fall forward. Here s what I

This society has reached the point where life no longer has any value, no rules and is sensitized to
violence and cruelty. Politics of the extreme left and far right have only polarized our society even
more. In the issue of abortion an innocent life can be taken legally, like when the germans killed
Jews legally, like when blacks were lynched here legally. At one point abortion was illegal and
now it is not, now parents do not even have to know their children are having abortions. If it is
not bad then why hide it? And if we are so sexualized, then why are we not responsible for the
side effects of one night stands and unplanned pregnancies? If I tell my friends to not have an
abortion they look at me like I am crazy, as if it is normal to kill their babies with or without

Nuclear Power Is The Best Source Of Power Essay

Nuclear Power
Just about every part of today s society involves energy of some sorts. But as our society
progresses, the need for better, more efficient power sources must be addressed. Out of all of the
choices, the most popular to date is nuclear power. Nuclear power is a growing industry that is
getting mixed reviews from various sources. But which side is right? Is nuclear power the
future? Or is it just another problem the world will have to deal with? The answer is simple.
Nuclear Energy is the future and will power almost the entire world one day. Nuclear power is
the best source of power because it produces lots of power, it produces clean energy, it is cheap,
and it is sustainable. Before that though, a bit of history about nuclear energy. In 1789, Uranium
was discovered by a German chemist named Martin Klaproth. Later on in 1902 Ernest Rutherford,
discovered how radioactivity as a spontaneous event emits an alpha or beta particle from the
nucleus that creates a different element. In 1919 he wanted a better understanding of atoms, so he
fired alpha particles from a radium source into nitrogen and found that nuclear rearrangement was
occurring, with formation of oxygen. Niels Bohr also did work to help better understand the work
of atoms in the 1940s (Perera). Nuclear fission (the process that generates nuclear power) was
discovered by Lisa Meitner and Otto Frisch. They were studying a puzzling result

Beowulf, An Anglo Saxon Epic Poem
Beowulf, an Anglo Saxon epic poem, contains several rhetorical strategies. The poem follows the
life of a noble warrior named Beowulf while he quests to live up to his father s name. In the
poem, Beowulf overcame many obstacles primarily those of which involved battling supernatural
creatures. Epic poems were generally written during the Anglo Saxon era. They are commonly
written in an elevated style in order to glorify the deeds of a legendary hero or god. Literary works
during the Anglo Saxon era usually focussed around a quintessential war hero of strength and noble
standing while often times referring to the Bible and Christianity. These traits of Anglo Saxon
writing can undoubtedly be found within Beowulf. Throughout the poem, the author expresses epic
poem traits through the use of rhetorical strategies. The author used literary devices such as
imagery, allusion, metaphors, and tone to express the epic traits of a legendary hero with
significance, a vast setting, and supernatural beings.
Beowulf, the fearless warrior of Geatland, established his role in the novel as the stereotypical
Anglo Saxon main character. Throughout the poem, Beowulf was unconditionally praised by the
people for his valor and strength. He commonly boasted about his fearless characteristics, When it
comes to fighting, I count myself as dangerous any day as Grendel. So it won t be a cutting edge I
ll wield to mow him down, easily as I might, (677 680). In this quote, the author uses the

Will They Follow Through?
Currently, the question is not if people want to leave the country. Rather, the main question is if
they are going to follow through. There has been a rise in Google searches for Canadian
immigration and calls about immigrating, but that does not necessarily mean that people will
actually leave the country. The political left feels like the United States no longer resembles the
home and political environment that they are used to. Canadian immigration may feel like the best
option, but the numerous documents, requirements and paperwork involved may be daunting for
new immigrants.

Buddhism in Vietnam Essay
Buddhism in Vietnam The Vietnamese people have said to have first appeared in the Christian
era, because the religion that was first adapted was Christianity. This would explain why the
Vietnamese people are such religious people. But it does not really explain there major religion
change to Buddhism, because Buddhism is really not a religion that is native to Vietnam. Buddhism
my be one of the most known religions in the world by name, but not by what is actually involved
in it. Christinethe girl that I interview said that many people think that the religion is a cult but she
says that it is anything but what would be classified as a cult to Americans (Eng). Historically,

Buddhism was at the highest between the eleventh and the fifteenth centuries. Countless times
Buddhism has given many societies the answers that they were looking for in political and social
questions. Buddhism still today offers support form the invasion of western ideas. Even though
Buddhism has always been big in Vietnam you will only now mainly see it when the country is
going through difficult times. According to Buddhist thought, human salvation lies in discovering
the four truths that man is born to suffer in successive lives, that the cause of the suffering is man s
craving for earthly pleasures and possessions, that the suffering ceases upon his deliverance from
his craving, and that he achieves this deliverance by following the noble eightfold path (Buddhism
1987). Buddhism is something that is known by the Vietnamese as a use of escape from reality, and
this mainly because it is known to relate to all. Buddhism was all about All Men are Equal as
opposed to the strict hierarchical structure of Confucianism (Vietnamese Buddhism). It s distinctive
feature is that it rejects the search for the truth in the scared text: Man immediately recognizes in
his own heart the true heart of Buddha , the absolute substance of all beings. For those who, thus
change within themselves, become conscious of their unity with Buddha, for those who manage to

The Use of Parallelism in Fahrenheit 451 Essays
The book that will be reviewed is Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury. The author used the
effect of parallelism extremely well by showing the similarities of both then and now. In the
following paragraphs we re going to encounter these parallelisms, we will compare the book to
the time period in which it was written, and our own time period post September 11. Before we
can do this we must first get to know the author and the era in which it was based off of just a bit.
To get a clear view and understanding of the book, first must review the time period in history.
The book was written in the mid 1950 s during the cold war. Former General McCarthy, then U.S.
Senator started a fire ball of suspicion, suppression, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People in that time period just wanted to distance themselves from anyone on the list due to the
government s overwhelming power, and the intense fear of losing everything they had. This
society lived when communism was feared; it ate up the freedoms they had in their society. The
rights and freedoms that were once taken for granted were now longed for. Now that there is a
brief understanding of the time period we can now take a look at the book.
The governmental control of the society in Fahrenheit 451 is unbelievable; it s unbelievable to think
that the government could have so much control. The government has so much control due to the
loss of individuality caused by conformity. According to the author, They all say the same things
and nobody says anything different from anyone else (Bradbury 31). This was done in several
ways; some of the ways were through the lack of books, education (or what we believe education to
be), and the lack of teachers. The influence (pure control) of the government over the media,
education, and any literature that was available to the public. The media and entertainment is
controlled by the government to the point that its citizens have better relationships with media
personalities than with their own families. The government grasped the rights of education by not
educating and allowing its students to run a muck. According to the author, Clarisse I m afraid of
children my own age. They kill each other (Bradbury

Operation and War Sustainment
Introduction War finds success and failures inescapably linked to how well Combined, Joint, and
Multinational Commander conducts sustainment planning and links the products to his strategic,
operational and tactical objectives. Operation OVERLORD provides an excellent case study as
large scale and complex example synchronizing, coordinating, and integrating the logistics
capabilities of the civilian industry, Joint and Coalition forces ultimately leading to the Defeat of
Germany. The purpose and definition of Joint Sustainment as well it s imperatives are described
below in detail, as well as the planning for Operation OVERLORDrelated to these imperatives.
Joint Sustainment, Imperatives, and Principles Joint Publication 3.0 entitled Joint Operations,
defines the Sustainment Function as the provision of logistics and personnel services necessary to
maintain and prolong operations through mission accomplishment and redeployment of the force.
Joint Publication 4 0 goes on further to say Effective joint logistics planning identifies future
requirements and proposes solutions; it requires joint logisticians to understand the commander s
intent and concept of operations (CONOPS). (JP 4 0 p. 57) Logisticians use seven principals in
their planning whether at the strategic, operational, or tactical level of war to ensure the operations
are logistically supportable. These principles are responsiveness, simplicity, flexibility, economy,
attainability, sustainability, and

The Yeti I m sure that many of you have been to disneyland/world and have been on the

You have seen many yetis and of course they are fake but, have you ever thought that there might
be...real ones. This on going and terrifying mystery has never actually been proven. But, I ve done
some research and there is some non and convincing evidence that is real. What is the YetiThe Yeti

The Between Science And Christianity
I remember it well as if it were yesterday, but it over 40 years ago when I walked into Dr. E s.
Office asking for his opinion about something; that I needed help having to do with correctly
responding to the interrelationship between Science and Christianity. I had my own
discernment and interpretation on this topic, but I wanted a practical, realistic way to approach
this discussion when asked, even if it was a couple days later, or during a confirmation class.
Though I did not have Dr. E as a professor, or took one of his courses in geology, I knew that he
could help me in a constructive way. Dr. E. was my mentor and sponsor and he was always
receptive to anything that I had to ask whether it was a simple or complex question of the day. On
that day, I wanted to know his understanding of Gods creation of science, its separation from, but
more so to its correlation to the theology of Christianity. At times, I was puzzled by some people s
insistence that the two shall never meet. Where I was coming from the standpoint and still hold
true, that Jesus, Son of God is the Great Physician as recounted in the healings parables and based
and John 5:1 9. I also believed and have no problem seeing that science and medical advances
were beneficial and true blessings from God. Another vital point of understanding that I base this
reflection upon is the profound belief that that God works his power and purpose through the
means of science as wisdom and hard work is expressed

The High Renaissance In Italy

Greece and Rome. It was also a time of recovery from the fourteenth century. In comparison with

Analysis Of May Swenson s Poem The Centaur
May Swenson s Common Denominator Imagine reading a poem and believing it means one thing,
but the underlying message is something completely different. Authors like to use different literary
techniques to make a valid point, to make the reader feel a certain emotion, or even to share a
distinct memory with their reader. Poetryhas helped authors focus their readers on their work by
achieving themes that may portrayed in several pieces of their work. In May Swenson s case,
she used a variety of techniques to create different emotions for the reader, while expressing
certain periods of her life. May Swenson uses nature in her poetry to personify sexuality and make
it into a repetitive theme in her work. Many of Swenson s critics can agree... Show more content on

As Swenson tries to connect the little girl riding a horse to a more private and personal scene, it
can be agreed that she is using this as an allegory that creates the poem s theme. In addition to the
previous poem, Swenson also uses the same method to create and capture the same feeling and
emotion. In her poem Sleeping with Boa, Swenson again uses a personified form of nature to
render her risky sexual theme. A perfect example of how she creates this image is when she
states, She likes my stroking hand. And she even lets me kiss. Swenson successfully conceives a
sexual imagery while standing by a simplistic nature based poem. Jumping off the bed, she
shows me her behind, is a line that describes the boa leaving her owner and the owner showing
admiration. This erotic imagery expressed in her poem serves as a representation of recognition
of desire and the willingness the two characters express while they share that desire amongst
themselves. There is a connection between the two main characters, the narrator and its pet, which
causes this to be analyzed as a more sensual relationship rather than the ordinary pet/owner
relationship. Swenson uses the boa, a reptile which is often feared by many, to show that even
something so powerful can be delicate when it comes to a relationship like this. It is almost as if
she would like that fear to be forgotten and

Judicial Misconduct Essay
Founders of the United States of America believed in providing the people of this great nation
with a fair, and impartial judicial system. The basic rights of the people, which are listed in the
Bill of Rights, needed to be respected and protected by the government. Abraham Lincoln once said
Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth . Every
part of the United Statesgovernment has a duty to protect the people that gave the government
power, and one organization in particular plays a very large role in this charge. The Judicial System

The primary functions of lower courts consist of processing minor offenses but these courts will
sometimes process felonies as well, without sentencing the defendant. Major trial courts take the
processed felony cases and complete them; in major courts the defendants who are charged with
felony crimes mainly enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, which then leads to a trial (Neubauer,
2010). The second component of our dual court system consists of appellate courts. In the U.S.
judicial system, a defendant found guilty in a trial court can normally appeal to a higher federal
court. These federal courts, or appellate courts, review decisions made by trial courts (Neubauer,
2010). Appellate courts can be on the federal and state level, but do not hold trials or hear new
evidence. These courts consist of a judge, or a lawyer, or a group of either one, who read the
transcript of the trial and whether the previous decision correctly or incorrectly followed the law
(Neubauer, 2010). Similar to trial courts, the federal government and most states have made two
different types of appellate courts: intermediate, which hear all cases, and supreme courts, which
can pick and choose the cases heard (Neubauer, 2010). Even though there are many different types
of courts within the judicial system of the United States, the role of the judge stays constant
throughout the majority of branches. Judges and their duties in the courtroom are misunderstood,
because of

What role might perception and conflict in group communication be credited with this companies
incredible success? Google is an organization in which employees work in high density clusters,
with three or four staffers sharing spaces. (Robbins Judge, 2007, p. 571) Sales Engineering teams
work together on major partnerships with companies such as MySpace, Dell, and Adobe. Software
Engineering teams consist of men and women of various ages from diverse backgrounds, ethnicity,
religions, and personalities. These teams are not immune to group conflict. Pseudo Conflicts,
Simple Conflicts, Ego Conflicts, as well as related misconceptions regarding conflicts exist in such
group communications. (Beebe Masterson, 2006, p. 3, 4) One way Google can use conflict to
improve communication in these various groups is to guard against the pitfall of Conflict
Avoidance , also called Groupthink. (p. 13) As Walter Lippman described it, When we all think

Another essential way to use the reality of conflict to enhance problem solving and decision

  • 2. John Schoenherr s Owl Moon Owl Moon written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr, takes the reader for a winter walk through the woods on a moonlit night. Father and son trudge slowly and silently through a snow covered forest in hopes of finding owls. It is a story of patience, perseverance, but most of all hope. When you go owling you don t need words or warm or anything but hope . The illustrations for Owl Moon are done by John Schoenherr. The illustrator chose pen with watercolors on d Arches paper. D Arches paper is a natural grain which resembles handmade paper. This paper creates resistance to scratching and clarification of colors. The illustrator clearly shows his love for wildlife and details. Schoenherr s illustrations make us feel that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Older students can dissect an owl pellet. We can take the lesson further and explore what animals stay in the winter and how they survive. Since this is a story of what a boy did with his father, perhaps the students can discuss or write about an activity they have done with a parent, grandparent, or friend. I remember writing a short story when I was seven, about snowmobiling with my grandfather. I drew a picture with the story; I think my mother laminated it. I chose Owl Moon because it reminded so much of where I live. Although I have never been on an owling , I have had many opportunities to hear them. The words of the author and the illustrator transported me to our meadow path. Our feet crunched over the crisp snow , reminds me when my mother, sisters and I went to the meadow to make plaster of paris molds of deer prints. Jane Yolen is an author and editor of over 280 children s books, Owl Moon being one of her most notable works. Yolen graduated from Smith College and at the age of 22 published her first book called, Pirates in Petticoats . Jane has been nominated many times as a finalist for the Nebula Award. On an interesting note, Yolen wrote a book in 1991, called Wizard s Hall. Her hero was called Henry who had a red headed best friend and a girl also as his best friend. They lived at a wizard school that included talking pictures, etc. Yolen commented about J.K. Rowlings, I m ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Human Language And Modern Language physically there. The same goes with majority of the animals like dogs, cats, bears, and wolves. However bees, specifically honeybees through their honey bee dancing, have demonstrated that they have a rather limited amount of displacement. Instead of vocally expressing it, the bees use their body to communicate as they can physically point out the general location of where the food is located. Ir is rather symbolic. This surpasses the here and now barrier that limit many animals. But, the honey bee s form of communication does not allow them to speak of the past or think abstractly, so it is a rather limited useage of displacement. There has not been any animal that can use displacement to the degree in which is used in human language. Traditional transmission: The human language has a very complex structure, one that comprises of systems such as grammar, syntax, and phonemes. Language acquisition in its simplest terms is the process by which humans acquire the ability to comprehend language and perceive the sounds made as words. We are one species, yet there are over 100+ languages in the world. We are all born the same, without a language and it is our innate ability to learn one from our surroundings. Our language is largely shaped by culture and social settings. Culture and language are intertwined together. As we grow older, our language becomes more diverse and we refine it with everyday usage while incorporating the new terminology we are exposed to. If a child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bloody Mary is a urban legend that first originated in in the early 1960s as an adolescent party game, and the person would take a candle or a flashlight and go into a dark room and look into a mirror and say a chant, The exact chant is unknown . After you say the chant a unknown amount of times something would appear and or happen. For example in the Poems of Robert Burns, published in 1787: Is a great example of a bloody mary ritual. • 9. The Effect Of A Trebuchet Arm Length And Counterweight... Effect of a Trebuchet Arm Length or Counterweight Mass on Projectile Distance A trebuchet is a siege weapon most commonly used in the middle ages. It uses gravity to propel an object. There are competitions held today called Pumpkin Chunkin which use trebuchets to launch pumpkins as far as possible. The common question is what the dimensions should be when making it. Should the arm be longer or shorter? Should the counterweight be heavier or lighter? These questions have been asked by competitors in trebuchet competition as well as engineers. And this is why the project is in the field of mechanical engineering. The way a Trebuchet works is that a counter weight drops which pulls the arm forward and at the point of takeoff a pin releases the object that is being projected. The counterweight drops using gravity and is attached to the arm causing it to fly up and launch the object. Engineers have had previous experience in this field because of the world wide trebuchet launching competitions. One example of engineers making this trebuchet are the engineers from team NASAW in the Pumpkin Chunkin competition. Team NASAW has a trebuchet with a heavy weight and a long arm. There arm and weight start next to each other at the beginning. The weight drops forward and like a whip the arm swings around and fires the pumpkin into the air at insane speeds. They are one of the top competitors in the competition and have proven countless times that the design works wonderfully. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Women In Sociological Research Society has its way of creating and enforcing its own norms. Once society creates an impact, it can be difficult to dispute. Women are seen and made into shopaholics by the media, and they use a lot of their resources to broadcast their messages to women. However in my research, I found a glimpse of something different. In Kohl s online website, it shows that they actually have more inventory for men than they do for women. This may be a slim margin of 1000 items but it disputes the popular options on clothing being catered towards women. The messages of shopping may be broadcasted for women but they are not only for women. In society, each genderhas roles they are made to fit into, which is a functionalist perspective. • 11. Compare And Contrast Mako And Marmuk The Life of a Woman Sexuality is a complicated and essential part of the human experience. However, expression of female sexuality has been perceived as a threat to men throughout history by many societies and thus repressed. This, coupled with the objectification of women, culminates in a female struggle to be recognized and treated as a human. This conflict is apparent throughout different time periods, as seen in both Cruel Story of Youth and The Life of Oharu . Cruel Story of Youth takes place in 1960 and focuses on Kiyoshi and Mako, a couple trying to find their own niche in the world. They consummate their love one night and are discovered in the morning. Her lover tells her the key to her happiness is to marry for true love before being executed. Oharu and her family are shamed and exiled from Kyoto. Similarly, Mako moves in with Kiyoshi and is considered dead to her family. Just as they can no longer return home, Oharu and Mako are no longer virgins and cannot return to their former state of purity and naivety. Oharu is blamed by her father and is never forgiven for the ruin of their family. • 13. Formal Social Control And Informal Social Deviance In society, there are sanctions that are used to prevent, stop, and punish behavior viewed as bad or unacceptable. These unaccepted behaviors are called social deviance, and these sanctions are enforced through two forms of social control: formal social control, and informal social control. Both of these forms of social control work towards achieving the same goal: discouraging violations of society s accepted behaviors, or social deviance, and punishing those who do. But what is the difference between these two forms of social control? How are these social control mechanisms carried out? Formal social control is a form of control that is carried out by authorized agents, such as police officers, judges, school administrators,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case, judges and religious officials are the agents of formal social control. These laws and rules work well in terms of stopping this unwanted behavior because of the penalties that follow if one deviates. Whether one agrees with the military hair rules and laws about same sex marriage or not, they will often follow them, as they will other rules and laws, as to avoid the punishments that would follow if they were to break them. Informal social control is a form of social control used casually to enforce norms (Schaefer 149). Informal social control is not enforced with rules or laws. Typically, informal social control agents are just everyday people. When people notice social deviance, they will use informal social control mechanisms including smiles, laughter, a raised eyebrow, and ridicule (Schaefer 149) to combat this deviance. For example, it is widely accepted in the United States that one should walk on the right side of the hallway, sidewalk, aisle, etc. However, there is no formally written rule or law stating that walking on the left side is unacceptable. Therefore, when someone walks on the left, there is no formal form of punishment. However, this person will likely be met with dirty looks or raised eyebrows from the people around them. Therefore, because of this informal social control, people generally adhere to unwritten rule of walking on the right side. Similarly, it is widely accepted that people should hold the ... The worry over a big meeting that could make or break your career, or the fear of falling off the top of a cliff, are both rational and healthy fears. But when you start to worry over a simple meet up, or nothing in specific, then it s possible you have an anxietydisorder. While there are seven to eight different forms of anxiety disorders, Generalized Anxiety Disorder(GAD), which is an anxiety disorderin which one has constant, overwhelming anxiety over... everything, and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), which is an anxiety disorder where one has anxiety only over social situations (such as public speaking, parties, going to school or work, etc.) are the two most common. Despite the fact that they are often viewed as very different diagnosis, GAD and SAD have very similar symptoms, treatments, and affect near the same amount and type of people. Because GAD is a mental disorder and affects your brain, which controls everything you do, it does have some physical symptoms. These can include restlessness, a faster than average heartbeat, muscle tension, and lightheadedness. Often times, somebody with GAD will have a lack of sleep because they are worrying over the next day, and thinking over the possible negative outcomes. If these girls were blessed with beauty, then they would endured even harder situations due to the attraction that their masters had towards them. However, he had no power over the decision of the master, and if the master did not consent on selling his slave girl, then there was nothing he, as a black man, could do. And even if he ended up marrying her, he would not be able to protect her from the master, and their children would have to follow the condition of the mother in slavery. Sadly, this shows us how most slave girls had no way out of the conditions of abuse they lived in. I was confident with horses and never doubted my ability for a second. I believed that I was a natural and because of this, nothing could ever wrong. This was the mindset I had before my first horseshow. The first horse I had ever shown was a dark brown quarter horse. Whipping her head around, Secret whinnied again, and I tried to make eye contact with my mom for reassurance, but I could not spot her in the crowd of people. My anxiety was getting worse and Secret could sense that, which only made her more nervous. When we were told to trot our horses, Secret s behavior became even worse. She started to hop up with her front legs projected above the ground and her back legs following through with little kicks, as if she were preparing to buck. She continued to do this as I passed by the stands. I glanced around at the people watching me, only to find them shaking their heads disapprovingly and whispering to one another. I looked up at the cloudy sky, feeling miniscule on top of this large, anxious horse. The fear that had built up inside me made the ground look considerably farther away than it really was and the probability of me being thrown to the ground seemed significantly high. Secret continued her little hops as we rounded the arena and finally Meghan ran into the center of the ring, just in case Secret did end up throwing me to the ground. I chose this theme because at the beginning of the story, Bilbo is a person that only worries about himself and only focuses on the comforts in life; and is very introverted. Towards the ending of the story, Bilbo transforms into a hero due to the situations he encounters. The setting of the story occurs in a fictional place called Middle Earth. We don t know the year the story takes place in. Consisting in northern Middle Earth is the Shire, the lush pasture in which hobbits reside, along with the western lands. The Misty Mountains run directly through northern Middle Earth from north to south. Beyond the Misty Mountains to the east lies the dreaded forest of Mirkwood, which is of immense size. To the north of Mirkwood lie the Grey Mountains, which are not very important in this book. To the east of Mirkwood lies the Running River and Lake Town, and the Lonely Mountain. ... Gender In The Film Tomboy Celine Sciamma s 2011 film Tomboy both repudiates the idea that gender has an innate basis, as well as suggests the futility of endeavoring to transgress gender norms, due to them being embedded to society, in addition to being internalized by people. In this paper, I will initially elaborate on scenes from the film depicting Laure s adoption of what would be societally viewed as malebehaviors, which results in conveying the message that external gendered performance and behavior are not necessarily compatible with one s natural sex. In other words, Sciamma implies that genderis not inherent, nor is it in immanent conjunction with sex. I will then proceed by commenting on the way in which the film sheds light on the vast paradox that lies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Darren Waldron observes, Laure s behavior indicates that external codes of what is universally considered masculine conduct, are incorporated into her outward demeanor, thereby indicating that those signs have in fact no innate grounding in boys . For instance, in several scenes, the audience witnesses Laure casually engage in playing football with the rest of the neighborhood boys, in which she excels equally well, spit, and sprint. Furthermore, I would suggest that the fact that, in one particular scene, Laure gets involved in a physical fight with another boy and overpowers him using techniques she has carefully observed, further challenges the assumption of the existence of a supposedly predetermined set of gender based behaviors. Furthermore, more importantly, a momentous scene that takes place in the bathroom, where Laure adds a prosthetic object to make it seem like a penis for the purpose of continuing to pose as Mickael in a pool meeting with the other children, strongly suggests perhaps the most quintessential signifier of masculinity, the phallus, may in fact as well be constructed. It also further enervates the power that biological sex supposedly holds over determining the identity and actual mental state of being of a person. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Background Company Information Tesco was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen, he originally started up his business as a market stall selling surplus groceries in the East End of London. The company is now not only a grocery store but also a general merchandise retailer, selling clothes, furniture, electrical items and wide range of other products and services including Tesco Bank, Tesco Mobile, and Blinkbox video on demand service. Tesco currently operates in 12 countries around the world, employ over 500,000 people and serve tens of millions of customers every week both in store and online. Tesco became a private limited company in 1932 and in 1947 Tesco Stores (Holdings) PLC floated on the stock exchange with a share price of 25p per share. Tesco were interested in what their customers buying habits were in order to try and evolve their company so they decided to closely watch customers behaviour and this led to the introduction of the Clubcard scheme in 1995 and a banking service in 1997. This allowed them to collect customer data and personalise their discounts in response to what they bought and this made them the UK s top supermarket. Aggressive negotiation with suppliers helped them grow their market share from a mere 7% in 1971 to 31% in 2007 making them the UK s top supermarket, which they still are today, (as according to the website ... That means we can have steak, chicken, seafood and veggies from the grill pretty much any time we get a craving for smoky, grilled food. If you re one of those people who loves lighting up your charcoal grill at every opportunity, you ve probably struggled to light your charcoal briquets and to keep them lit. Using charcoal lighter fluid has always been an easy, if somewhat scarily combustible, way to get briquets to catch fire; but if you ve used it and you know you have you know it somehow didn t feel like the right thing to do. Here are 3 reasons why you should never pick up a bottle of lighter fluid again: 1 Charcoal Lighter Fluid Affects Food Taste Using charcoal lighter fluid to get your briquets burning can impart an unpleasant, chemical taste to grilled food. One way to avoid an excess of lighter fluid flavor to food cooked on outdoor grills is to allow the lighter fluid to evaporate for at least 30 minutes. Unfortunately, this won t eliminate all of the bad taste and smell, which isn t great when you want your family and friends to get the full flavor of your grilled food. 2 Chimney Starters Exist ... • 26. Factors That Affect The Water Drag is a common force in the universe, and occurs in everyday life especially in water. Mr. Redman states that, forward is a propelling force; drag is a force that hinders that motion or is the force acting in opposition to the motion of an object. Parachutes are a great example of this force; when air is trapped in the nylon of a parachute, it creates dragslowing the velocity of the parachutist. Water drag is acted upon swimmers at all times. Hydrodynamics show that materials of the swimmers closely affect drag. Swimmers wear sleek swim caps, shave their body, and wear tightly fitted swimsuits all to reduce friction. Skill level and technique of a swimmer also affect drag resistance. Water is 800 times denser than air, drag forces... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trucks experience air resistance due to their big and boxy frame. Air constantly pushes against the shipping containers. Engineers have found a way to combat such a force by adding large hoods or visors, in which the cab and trailer are connected. The back of the truck is built in a streamlined fashion, like a plane, to completely extinguish swirling air (Parola, 2000). Another example of drag is frictional forces. Trains, for example, use wheels to move along tracks. These wheels encounter friction when stopping. Metal on metal gains immense friction and may become hot. This drag is common among cars and other ground transportation. Engineers have looked to the future to solve this drag. MAGLEV trains are levitating trains that use magnets for propulsion. This way friction drag is eliminated, yet air resistance is still a factor. To cut down on air resistance, MAGLEV trains incorporate aerodynamic principles such as a slim line body to cut through air, that way the force of air is evenly distributed around the body. Drag also occurs in water called, fluid friction or fluid resistance. Boats, ships, subs, whales, dolphin, and swimmers all go through fluid rest incense. Much like air resistance, fluid pushes against the direction in a object is moving. And again much like air resistance, a streamlined body will reduce this drag. The rate of births among women ages 15 to 44 increased by 1% from 2013 to 2014, the first increase since 2007, which might be a trend that if we don t fix this problem soon so many more might grow up that way. One in five children receives food stamps or some kind of aid so says the census bureau. Mandatory laws on having children should be enforced in the United Statesbecause of the high amount of government supported children, and the number of questionable parent(s). First reason, the number of government supported children is enormous, and with a projected baby boom on its way after the previous recession. IB BiologyCheyenne Cosman Dr. SigworthMarch 28, 2015 Heart Rate IA Research Question How does the consumption of a particular energy drink (Red Bull) affect a human s heart rate during exercise? Bakground Information The human heart has four chambers: two thin walled atria, which receive blood, and two thick walled ventricles, which pump blood. While veins carry blood into the atria, arteries carry blood away from ventricles. The atria and ventricles work collaboratively, alternating contraction and relaxation to pump blood through your heart. A human s heartbeat is triggered by electrical impulses that travel down a specific pathway through the heart. The sinoatrial node, also know as the heart s pacemaker, is a small bundle of specialized cells located in the right atrium, where the impulse starts. This electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and causes contraction. This forces blood into the ventricles. Therefore, the SA node sets the rate and rhythm of your heartbeat. The atrioventricular node is a cluster of cells between the atria and ventricles and acts as a gate that slows down the electrical signal before it enters the ventricles. This delay allows the atria to contract before the ventricles do. The His Purkinje Network is a pathway of fibers that send impulses to the muscular walls of the ventricles and cause them to contract. This again, forces blood out of the heart to the lungs and body. Then the SA node fires another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But as our society progresses, the need for better, more efficient power sources must be addressed. Out of all of the choices, the most popular to date is nuclear power. Nuclear power is a growing industry that is getting mixed reviews from various sources. But which side is right? Is nuclear power the future? Or is it just another problem the world will have to deal with? The answer is simple. Nuclear Energy is the future and will power almost the entire world one day. Nuclear power is the best source of power because it produces lots of power, it produces clean energy, it is cheap, and it is sustainable. Before that though, a bit of history about nuclear energy. In 1789, Uranium was discovered by a German chemist named Martin Klaproth. Later on in 1902 Ernest Rutherford, discovered how radioactivity as a spontaneous event emits an alpha or beta particle from the nucleus that creates a different element. In 1919 he wanted a better understanding of atoms, so he fired alpha particles from a radium source into nitrogen and found that nuclear rearrangement was occurring, with formation of oxygen. They are commonly written in an elevated style in order to glorify the deeds of a legendary hero or god. Literary works during the Anglo Saxon era usually focussed around a quintessential war hero of strength and noble standing while often times referring to the Bible and Christianity. These traits of Anglo Saxon writing can undoubtedly be found within Beowulf. Throughout the poem, the author expresses epic poem traits through the use of rhetorical strategies. The author used literary devices such as imagery, allusion, metaphors, and tone to express the epic traits of a legendary hero with significance, a vast setting, and supernatural beings. Beowulf, the fearless warrior of Geatland, established his role in the novel as the stereotypical Anglo Saxon main character. Throughout the poem, Beowulf was unconditionally praised by the people for his valor and strength. He commonly boasted about his fearless characteristics, When it comes to fighting, I count myself as dangerous any day as Grendel. So it won t be a cutting edge I ll wield to mow him down, easily as I might, (677 680). In this quote, the author uses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though Buddhism has always been big in Vietnam you will only now mainly see it when the country is going through difficult times. According to Buddhist thought, human salvation lies in discovering the four truths that man is born to suffer in successive lives, that the cause of the suffering is man s craving for earthly pleasures and possessions, that the suffering ceases upon his deliverance from his craving, and that he achieves this deliverance by following the noble eightfold path (Buddhism 1987). Now that there is a brief understanding of the time period we can now take a look at the book. The governmental control of the society in Fahrenheit 451 is unbelievable; it s unbelievable to think that the government could have so much control. The government has so much control due to the loss of individuality caused by conformity. According to the author, They all say the same things and nobody says anything different from anyone else (Bradbury 31). This was done in several ways; some of the ways were through the lack of books, education (or what we believe education to be), and the lack of teachers. The influence (pure control) of the government over the media, education, and any literature that was available to the public. The media and entertainment is controlled by the government to the point that its citizens have better relationships with media personalities than with their own families. As Swenson tries to connect the little girl riding a horse to a more private and personal scene, it can be agreed that she is using this as an allegory that creates the poem s theme. In addition to the previous poem, Swenson also uses the same method to create and capture the same feeling and emotion. In her poem Sleeping with Boa, Swenson again uses a personified form of nature to render her risky sexual theme. A perfect example of how she creates this image is when she states, She likes my stroking hand. And she even lets me kiss. Swenson successfully conceives a sexual imagery while standing by a simplistic nature based poem. Jumping off the bed, she shows me her behind, is a line that describes the boa leaving her owner and the owner showing admiration. This erotic imagery expressed in her poem serves as a representation of recognition of desire and the willingness the two characters express while they share that desire amongst themselves. There is a connection between the two main characters, the narrator and its pet, which causes this to be analyzed as a more sensual relationship rather than the ordinary pet/owner relationship. Swenson uses the boa, a reptile which is often feared by many, to show that even something so powerful can be delicate when it comes to a relationship like this. The primary functions of lower courts consist of processing minor offenses but these courts will sometimes process felonies as well, without sentencing the defendant. Major trial courts take the processed felony cases and complete them; in major courts the defendants who are charged with felony crimes mainly enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, which then leads to a trial (Neubauer, 2010). The second component of our dual court system consists of appellate courts. In the U.S. judicial system, a defendant found guilty in a trial court can normally appeal to a higher federal court. These federal courts, or appellate courts, review decisions made by trial courts (Neubauer, 2010). Appellate courts can be on the federal and state level, but do not hold trials or hear new evidence. These courts consist of a judge, or a lawyer, or a group of either one, who read the transcript of the trial and whether the previous decision correctly or incorrectly followed the law (Neubauer, 2010). Similar to trial courts, the federal government and most states have made two different types of appellate courts: intermediate, which hear all cases, and supreme courts, which can pick and choose the cases heard (Neubauer, 2010). Even though there are many different types of courts within the judicial system of the United States, the role of the judge stays constant throughout the majority of branches.
