to someone who seems intelligent I mean really, how many times have you looked at the way

Was Haman Hanged Or Impaled In The Book Of Esther Analysis
Was Haman Hanged or Impaled in the Book of Esther?
As part of the battle between Mordecai (the hero) and Haman (the villain), Haman plans Mordecai s
death, but in the end the instrument of death is turned on Haman himself.
According to the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), Haman s wife suggested (verse 5:14) that a
gallows fifty cubits [seventy five to eighty feet] high be made ... to have Mordecai hanged on it.
The Jewish Publication Society of America Version (JPS).
translation offers instead, Let a stake be put up ... to have Mordecai impaled on it. Verse 7:10 details
the plot reversal: The King s men either hanged Haman on the gallows (NRSV) or impaled Haman on
the stake (JPS).
Which is it? Was it a gallows or stake? And was Haman hanged or impaled?
King James Version (KJV), the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the New American
Standard (NAS) render the beginning of the verse the same: So, they hanged Haman on the gallows
that he had prepared for Mordecai. However, consider the NIV s take on the text:
So, they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. (and to be fair, the NRSV contains a
note that it should be rendered on a tree by impalement )
Clearly, hanging by the neck until dead and being shoved on a sharpened, wide perimeter stick are two
(2) separate ways of dying.
Where does the discrepancy come from?
There are two (2) questions here, as there always are with matters of translation.
1. The first is what the original Hebrew means.
2. The second is how best to say that in English.
Let s look at the Hebrew to examine the two (2) words in dispute.
Gallows (KJV)/Pole(NIV)
1. The Hebrew word is ets and it is the most often translated in the Bible as tree, piece of wood, or
pole.
2. The only examples of the word being translated as gallows appear in The Book of Esther
Hanged (KJV)/Impaled(NIV)
1. The Hebrew word talah is used here and is the source of complexity in interpreting the image of
death.
2. The word translates most often in the Bible to mean suspend or hang, and there are numerous
examples of people hung on ets throughout the OT: Genesis 40:19, Deuteronomy 21:22, Joshua 8:29
and 10:20, 1 Samuel 31:10, and 2 Samuel

Classroom Management Theory Essay
Students enter the classroom with differing personalities and levels of learning. Hence, it is important
that pre service teachers are equipped with knowledge and understanding of the different theories of
classroom management. Theories such as Goal Centered Theory [GCT], Cognitive Behavioural
Theory [CBT] and Assertive Discipline Theory [AD] facilitate supportive learning environments to
offer students superlative conditions to succeed at school. Research recommends the adoption of a
single approach to inform and guide a pre service teachers classroom management style; however, a
teacher s beliefs, attitudes and values help inform the best approach, whether that is aligning with one
theory, a consolidation of concurring practices from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
24). To implement GCT effectively, teachers must be able to distinguish a student s individual
motivation to misbehave and negotiate alternative solutions to prevent their misbehaviour (Dempsey
Arthur Kelly, 2007, p.122: Lyons et al., p. 24). For example, by using preventative strategies such as
engaging in whole class discussions, explicit instructions, modelled consistency and offering choice
with rules, consequence and academic tasks, students may be able to recognise their personal
intentions and maintain suitable behaviours (Lyons et al., p. 24).
GCT has many strengths, for instance, it provides teachers with an effective framework to distinguish
their students motivation to misbehave. Furthermore, it helps students to recognise and adapt their
own misbehaviour that may arise from failure to meet social needs. GCT encourages constructive
classroom environments, where students are intrinsically motivated and actively involved in their
learning, thus they demonstrate accountability for their own academic achievement whilst considering
the needs of others. However, critics of GCT believe that not every student has the need to be socially
accepted and other reasons such as an inability to recognise motives or hidden motives may be
responsible for their misbehaviour (Lyons et al., 2014, p. 24). Moreover, teachers who have limited

Elizabeth Moore Interview
Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to
life and to everything. This quote by Plato reminds me so much of Elizabeth Moore. She is spirited
and loves to have fun. She also loves music and believes it is very important for music to be a part of
young lives. I have known her since the day I was told we have the same name at church when I was
younger. Through this interview, I learned something I will never forget hearing her say: I guess one
change would be all of the killings going on now that wasn t when I was growing up. We all had a
good time. I can t understand people killing each other. It s awful. I found myself feeling dismayed
over this statement. Hearing about her young life, I felt disappointed in what our modern world has
come to. We need more people like Elizabeth in this world!
I loved listening to some of the happiest times she could recall, but there was one that stood out to me.
Elizabeth was a music teacher, and a very dedicated one at that. She talked about the happiness she
felt when her kids would win first in contest. The first year she took them to contest, they were
awarded second place, but that wasn t good enough for her. She found out what her kids had to do
better and did just that. Every year following, they were awarded first ... Show more content on

For instance, Elizabeth s favorite influences were her music teachers. She said, They made me want to
work harder and do well. Most people like to pass down things they learn from people who influence
them positively. Elizabeth most definitely did. She always had her students work hard to achieve
goals. She also grew up in an atmosphere with wonderful parents and a neighborhood containing very
nice people. I think the atmosphere is one of many things we have in common. These are just a few
things that have made Elizabeth to be such a friendly and encouraging

Operant Conditioning Analysis
In order to aid my roommate s diet regimen the use of all aspects of operant conditioning will become
significant. Since operant conditioning is the method through which an individual s behavior is
modified via the use of consequences, positive and negative, both punishment and reward should be a
part of my roommate s diet plan. Since grasping the inital plan is an underlying problem of this
conditioning, a reinforcer, like a delicious snack will be used at five minute/ fixed ratio schedule to
ensure that the subject understands all aspects of the study like the reinfrocements and the
punishments. First, a strict plan must be laid out in which the ultimate reward is made clear, this is the
reward that is laid out by Throndike s Law of Effect, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, an alarm will be set for exercise timings as an additional discrimination stimulus. This
alarm will signify the duration and rigor of the exercise in order to illicit the target behavior of a well
established and followed work out routine. Throughout the month, the above discrimination stimuli
will be used three times daily at fixed ratio intervals to encourage regularity. If any activity not
determined by the schedule set for the subject occurs, the problem can be dealt either with a negative
punishment or negative reinforcement. For example, if the subject does not meet the rigor of the
exercise or consumes a diet other than the prescribed one, the possibility of joining the football team
can be removed as a negative punishment. Similarly, delicious snacks established to be reinforcements
at the beginning of the month will be removed as a negative reinforcer for not following the plan.
Similarly, to reward target behavior (following the plan) a positive reinforcer will be

Constantine s Personal Beliefs
Constantine I is credited with adapting Christianity to the Roman Empire, ending persecution of
Christians, and eventually converting to the religion himself. However, historians have debated over
his motives; some consider them to be politically fueled, while others argue that they were based on
personal beliefs. After considering the various changes that were brought upon following the
conversion, it is clear that while Constantine s efforts were primarily strategically rooted, personal
beliefs did play a subsidiary role. Constantine s multifaceted relationship with Christianity first
emerged during his days as a successful general. Eusebius, a bishop and historian during the time,
stated that prior to the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, Constantine had a vision of a burning cross in the
sky with a message stating that he would succeed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constantine laid the foundations of what would soon become a religious and profitable hub and
established himself as the Patriarchate of Constantinople ( Legitimization Under Constantine ). The
institution of Constantinople both indicated the break with its pagan past and highlighted its
acceptance of Christianity. For example, Constantine did not allow pagan ceremonies in the city.
Constantinople flourished as a spiritual and political capital for over a millennium. Constantine was,
once again, most probably interested in the strategic location of the city, as it could be effectively used
for trade and commercial purposes. Additionally, its position made it difficult to be conquered by
rivaling nations. As Constantine was a very intelligent and cunning emperor, he most likely took note
of all of these facts and knew that the empire would benefit economically, as well as culturally and
socially, from the establishment of

The Financial Crisis Of 2008 Essay
The 2008 financial meltdown resulted in the most treacherous investment landscape observed since
the great depression. The most notorious issue was the subprime mortgage crisis, which had a ripple
effect felt through every market in the world. The banks, whose leverage rate should never have been
higher than two times capitalization, surged as high as thirty to forty times market cap. With this level
of exposure, any unforeseen market fluctuations could mean disaster. Lehman Brothers, the oldest
investment bank on Wall Street, went bankrupt and thousands lost their jobs. Outside of finance,
thousands of companies in the United States and abroad had to fire significant portions of their
workforce, thus furthering the economic decline and plunging the US into an economic recession. In
the late 1990s, Congress repealed the legislation separating commercial and investment banks, which
resulted in investment banks overreaching their bounds. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act
of 2008 was enacted due to the effects of the subprime mortgage crisis, which allowed the US
Treasury to spend billions of dollars to bail out the investment banks by purchasing distressed assets.
However, the bailout plan has created a debate over whether it was a good idea for the government to
bailout the investment banks. Also, if the government fared better or worse in the years following the
bailout.
The financial crash of 2008 created two paradigms, bailout and bankruptcy and to this day it is

Definition Of Lingual Bilingualism
A lingual genocide is brewing within a nation which prides itself on being free of oppression. Lingual
activist have many different definitions for bilingualism. Martín Espada and Richard Rodriguez both
abandon the conventional sense of the word bilingualism, the ability to converse in multiple language.
In Espada s essay, The New Bathroom Policy at English High School , he extends bilingualism to
include the merging of cultures to sympathize and be immersed in a community. He believes that
education s role is to help ease the mixing of identities. In Rodriguez s book, Hunger of Memory, he
elaborates upon definition of bilingualism and creates his own distinction from Espada s
interpretation. He believes that bilingualism is the coexistence of two identities, a public one which
was English for him and a private one which was Spanish. He believes the iron fist enforcement of a
language is key to reaching the state of bilingualism. My definition of bilingualism is an extension
upon both Rodriguez and Espada. I believe bilingualism is the merging of multiple cultures but also
the preservation of each culture, this allows one to be a multicultural being able to be defined as
themselves rather than a culture.
To survive in America s cultural war, Latinos must realize that they have a right to their identity and
must refuse to be silenced. Espada emphasize that the lingual discrimination faced by Spanish
speakers in education and the judicial system is part of a larger scheme

The Lake Of The Woods And The Vietnam
Important Aspects in the Novel In the Lake of The Woods and The Vietnam in Me by Tim O Brien
As most of the people in American spent time thinking about clothing and feeding themselves and
their families, the rarely spend time thinking about philosophical issues. Tim O Brien says that he jars
people to look into important things, meaning that he makes people look into the deeper meaning of
the issues reflected in his novels instead of focusing on the basic issues alone. This paper will analyze
the important aspects that are reflected in the Novel In the Lake of the Woods and the article The
Vietnam in Me by Tim O Brien.
Important Aspects In the Lake of The Woods by Tim O Brien
One of the vital things in this novel is its setting. The major conflict in the story occurs at the northern
west angle of Minnesota. The major characters in the novel, John and Kathy chose this location
because of its isolation. This setting helps in shaping the story because that is where Kathy disappears,
and the rest of the novel shifts attention to her search. Another important element in the setting of this
story is the American political environment. When John enters the race for the Senate seat, the conflict
between him and Kathy emerge as it reduces the interaction of the two. In addition, his involvement in
politics unearths his involvement with Charlie Company which leads to his dismal failure in politics.
As the two continue to relax in the woods, many past events begin to resurface, and

Decolonization Of Indigenous People
For hundreds of years Indigenous people have been colonized by the British and now Canadian
settlers in Canada. Colonization is defined in Merriam Webster Dictionary as taking control of an area
and sending people to live there. This is initially what the British did when coming to North America.
However, since then colonization has gained a larger and more sinister meaning. Colonization was
used to undermine and devalue all aspects of Indigenous culture, including traditional medicine and
healing practicesi. It encompasses the attempt at assimilating the indigenous people into the now
western ways by presenting Indigenous people as savages and less than the European culture. Due to
this history of colonization Indigenous people now have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Decolonization a process that centres on regaining political, cultural, economic and social self
determination as well as positive identities as individuals, families, communities and nationsii. One
way that this can be achieved is through the integration of indigenous and western health care

them. Further when if the two ideologies can be used together it will create an environment where
stereotypes can be dissolved. However, there will still be problems overcoming in the stereotypes
initially, which is why cultural competency training and communication is important. Dialogue must
be created with Indigenous people to learn what is needed to educate about and integrate Indigenous
practices into mainstream healthcare for Indigenous people. Although difficult, modifying the western

The Battle Of San Juan Hill
MISSION COMMAND PAPER: THE BATTLE OF SAN JUAN HILL
The Battle of San Juan Hill took place in the hills surrounding Santiago, Cuba on July 1, 1898. It was
a battle between the Spanish forces commanded by General Arsenio Linares and the United States
Army V Corps commanded by MG William Schafter. Although the United States won the battle, MG
Shafter did not properly exercise all of the principles of mission command prior to and during the
battle. MG Shafter failed to provide a clear commander s intent and exercise prudent risk, but several
of his subordinate leaders developed cohesive teams through mutual trust and exercised disciplined

MG Shafter and MG Lawton believed that El Caney could be taken quickly, thus planned for the 2nd
Division to take El Caney and then line up to the right of the Cavalry Division during the San Juan

of its total 6,600 men to injury or death. Therefore, MG Lawton s 2nd Division was not able to
support the assault on San Juan Hill. , ,
On the morning of July 1st, the Cavalry and 2nd Divisions marched to San Juan Hill along the Camino

sick. MG Shafter was also incapacitated during the battle; therefore, his aides traveled back and forth
from El Pozo to the line of forces to give orders, creating confusion and stalling the onset of the battle.
Together, the force consisted of about 8,400 troops, which split when the road met the San Juan River.
The Cavalry Division moved to the east side of the river and the 1st Division to the west of the river.

Why A Trophy Should Not Be Allowed In School
I got my first trophy when I was in kindergarten when I played rec basketball. I wasn t outstanding, or
even that good. I got a trophy I probably didn t deserve. When kids know they will automatically get a
trophy, then they might not try as hard. If the kids don t try as hard they will let their team down.
Giving out participation trophies is a mistake because it wates money gives kids false sense of
achmplishments anddiminishes the value of winning a trophy.
In the United States alone, over three billion dollars is spent each year on trophies. If we did not spend
the three billion on trophies, we could spend it somewhere else. When kids get a trophy for
everything, then they will expect one for everything they do. On most teams there

The Sapphires And The Stolen Generation
Broken Memories, Broken People, Broken Dreams This narrative text is based off the film The
Sapphires set in Australia in the 1960s. In The Sapphires we see a flashback of Kay s childhood and
how she is part of the Stolen Generation. I will use this storyline as the starting point for my diary
entries. The film gave me background knowledge on Stolen Generation and their experiences they
faced. However, I need to know extra information so I will do further research about the Stolen
Generation, in order to give an accurate description of their experiences. This narrative is targeted
towards everyone. It is designed to inform them about the Stolen Generation and how they changed
when forcibly moved to an Aborigines White Institution. This piece of text will be written in a diary
entry form. I will use informal and conversational language. I will also use descriptive language when
describing objects and sceneries throughout the text. The blazing light was shining in my face and a
slight breeze blew through the arched windows. I spotted an open chest in the attic, whilst spring

The Kernel Of Roman Society
Rosemaria Varghese
HUMA 4312
Critical Paper II
Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society
Introduction
In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral
principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible
emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying
signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered
multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures
as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and
how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave.
Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving
father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts
Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid,
Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only
towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the
beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his
mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). The destiny that
Aeneas is to

Inequality In Virginia Woolf
We are all created equal, but we are not treated as equals. We like to believe that everyone is equal, but
society doesn t treat everyone as what they were when created, equal. Virginia Woolf writes of society
s inequality through describing two meals from two different colleges. What mattered was neither
where the college was nor the name of it, but what mattered was that one was for men and the other
for women. Woolf was was served one meal from the colleges and there were some striking
differences. Through her writing, Woolf s use of vocabulary, tone, and emotional appeal help support
her attitude that women aren t treated equal compared to men. In reading both passages, there is a
clear difference in her vocabulary for describing the meals. Here, however, I shall take the liberty to
defy that convention and to tell you that the lunch on this occasion began with soles, sunk in deep
dish, over which the college cook had spread a counterpane of the whitest cream, save that it was
branded here and there with brown spots like the spots on the flanks of a doe (Woolf, Passage 1,
Sentence 4). Here was the soup. It was a plain gravy soup. There was nothing to stir the fancy in that
(Woolf, Passage 2, Sentence 6 8). Not only was there a change in vocabulary, but there was also a
change in the length of her sentences. Woolf s experience in the men s college was given a lot of detail
compared to her experience in the women s college. We can infer, from her vocabulary, that the

Administering Inhaled High Concentration Oxygen to...
The practice of administering inhaled high concentration oxygen to patients suffering chest pain is
widespread, has been followed for about a century, and is advised in major textbooks of emergency
care, general medicine, and cardiology. There remains an expectation amongst the general public and
medical practitioners that oxygen simply forms part of the standard treatment of a sick patient
(Nicholson, 2004). A review of the evolution of supplemental oxygen therapy reveals that it is not
evidence based, and there is uncertainty about the benefits and safety. This paper will discuss the
different approaches of the use of high concentration oxygen therapy for the client with acute chest
pain, including previously conducted trials. The physiological benefits and harms, the variation in
international guidelines and the need for future research will also be analysed.
Chest pain is a common and often non specific symptom that can be caused by a number of
underlying conditions , one of the most serious being Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), commonly
known as a heart attack (Chapman, Leslie, Sage, 2012, p. 12). High concentration oxygen therapy,
levels greater than 60%, has been advocated for the treatment of AMI and chest pain for nearly three
quarters of a century (Ranchord, Perrin, Weatherall, Beasley, Simmonds, 2012). As early as 1922,
Barach noted the beneficial effects of high concentration oxygen therapy, at levels of 80 100%, in
patients suffering from angina

Fate Or Free Will Controls Human Lives
Generally, fate refers to the development of events beyond a person s control (Aurobindo). As such, a
fatalist is a person who believes that whatever happens is, and always was, unavoidable. Moreover,
such a person strongly believes that he or she has no control over what happens the next moment,
tomorrow, next year, or several years to come. Free will, on the other hand, is formed by the power of
sanction (Aurobindo). In other words, it is consent by the spirit that it shall not be bound but that its
enjoyment should be bound by time, space, and causality and by the swabhava and the dharma
(Aurobindo). To determine whether fate or free will controls human lives, it is important to objectively
analyse, synthesizes, and respond to the critical conversation that the authors of class readings seem to
be engaging with regard to this subject. In connection to this, humanity has been fascinated by fate
and free will for a long time. Some philosophers in the Ancient Greek and the Middle Ages believed
that free will influenced human destiny while others believed that fate was responsible for what befell
mankind.
The theme of fate conspicuously permeates Homer s famous poem, Ilad, from the first to the last
sentence. The author asserts that death is a natural and unavoidable part of human existence from the
onset by affirming that Akhilleus anger is doomed and ruinous. In this regard, fate but not free will
defines consciousness in the Trojan War. Although everybody

Cooperation And Altruism Is What Largely Divides Humans...
Cooperation and altruism is what largely divides humans from other animals. While some primate and
certain other species do seem to show some precursors to these types of behaviors, none come close to
the ability of humans to help each other. Much of this has to do with our ability to act unselfishly
despite the fact that in the short term being selfish would be more beneficial. Some groups take this to
the extreme like the Hutterites who live in a society where everyone works to serve others. In his book
The Origins of Virtue Matt Ridley claims that we are all Hutterites at heart (38). However, this does
not actually seem to be true the majority of the time. In fact, more often and not, we act selfishly if we
can get away with it without any repercussions. One of the strongest bits of evidence against this
statement comes from experiments in children that show that very young children are more likely to
act selfishly instead of altruistically. Additionally, game theory studies have shown that people are
overall more selfish when they are anonymous compared to when their actions and decisions are being
watched. This would seem to indicate Hutterite s beliefs are not so central to our lives. At the same
time, these studies also show that people are not as selfish as would be expected if they were only
looking out for their benefit. And there are plenty of instances where a person goes out of their way to
help a complete stranger. Overall, I think Ridley s claim is mostly

Geometry and Art of Stained Glass From a church to a person s home, there is stained glass all around
us. Most people take a look at stained glass and just admire the beauty, but not the work that goes into
it. The intense planning and preparations in deciding what to make and how to put it all together. Not
until recently, there has been no real equation for stained glass, but that has changed. People can now
use formulas and equations to take a part a piece of work. All over the world stained glass is known.
There is much more to stained glass than just what meets the eyes of the people who see it.
Stained glass contrasts from natural images. It has a wider dynamic range between highlight and
shadow areas. The name comes from the silver stain on the outside of the building. There is no exact
place where stained glass originated from. It is said that stained glass was an accidental finding.
According to Pliny s tale Phoenician sailors left a mixture of cooking pots, sand, and soda to burn
overnight created stained glass. As you can assume, this was not a very consistent method. Therefore,
the findings are given to Egyptians or Mesopotamian potters. At St. Paul s Monastery in Jarrow,
England a stained glass window was found in 686 AD and is the oldest known example. The Augsburg
Cathedral held the oldest complete European windows. There are different types of stained glass such

Sulfate And Hydrate Lab Report
Introduction In this lab hydrates and anhydrous material were used to discover percent loss of copper
(II) sulfate pentahydrate and mass loss in anhydrous calcium chloride. Hydrates are chemical
compounds that have a discrete water molecules that are part of the compounds crystalline structure.
Anhydrous compounds have crystalline structures containing no water. In this experiment, copper (II)
sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous calcium gained mass. When
heated, hydrates break bond with water and the water is released into the atmosphere. Once the water
in the hydrate has thoroughly evaporated, it becomes anhydrous. Purpose The purpose of this lab was
to calculate the percent of water mass the copper (II) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated the hydrate loss 35.16% of water. The hydrate
should have loss 36.08% of water after it was heated. The anhydrous calcium chloride became
hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from the copper
sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher percent of water
from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the experiment was 2.61%. The
percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been driven off. A lower percent error
could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more. Suggested Improvements: When the lab
experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the
casserole was heated before the hydrate was place in it, then the water that might have been in the
casserole prior to the sample being added would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole
was not heated, the result may have been of a higher mass of water being loss. Another improvement
that could be made to this experiment, could be increasing the sample size to an average

Teenage Girls
As a matter of fact, teenage girls are not the only ones who fall victim to the ideal of beauty. Teenage
boys are going through very similar situations. Media and advertisements set their standards for men
to be tall, muscular, board upper body, v line and have beards etc. Neither males nor females live
without having standards set up for them by society and media. Widely held perceptions of beauty and
perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men. Some impact is that
these standards will continue to exist in our future culture and both genders will never feel
comfortable in their own skin/body. Both men and women would continue to judge themselves and
their beauty. Magazines and advertisements usually have images of men without their shirts in order to
show off their muscles and to attract customers. This makes members of society expect to see a six
pack,v line and pectorals when a male takes off their shirt. This gives teenage boys fear to take off
their shirt when going to the beach or smaller situations like going inside a pool because they are
scared to be criticized for not being muscular. Magazines display images of these fake models for both
men and women which creates intimidation. Study of mass media magazines discovered that women s
magazines had 10.5 times more advertisements and articles promoting weight loss than men s
magazines did (as cited in Guillen Barr.1944). The ideal of beauty targets women more than men. In

Autocannibalism In The Nari Praxi
In Wari funerals before the 1960s, the role of affinity played also an important part. Conklin (1995,80

for the dismembering the body with a bamboo arrow tip, and for the removal of the internal organs.
They wrapped the heart and liver in leaves and roasted them. Body parts such as nails, hair, and
genitals were thrown to the fire since they were considered inedible. The head was cut to remove the
brain and the legs and arms were cut at the joints and cooked on the roasting pit. The nari praxi were

bone (Conklin 1995, 80 82). The ideal during this mortuary practice was for all the flesh, heart, liver,
and brains to be eaten. However, often due to the advanced decomposition of the body (caused by the
long wait for all the relatives to arrive and participate) some parts could not be eaten and instead they

Analysis Of The Poem Eve Of Her Daughters And ...
The two poems I have chosen to analyze are Judith Wright s Eve to Her Daughters (992) and Robert
Browning s Porphyria s Lover (642) and what they have in relation to one another. I will be examining
the dramatic monologue form that takes place in both poems and how it could present the image and
possibility for coercion. I will discuss how, with the utilization of dramatic monologue, we as the
audience, experience the speaker s world with a glimpse into their personal perspectives alongside
with their mentalities. Furthermore, I will highlight the similarities and differences between the
poems, how both poems interact with one another, and what we can comprehend with both poems that
would not be possible if viewed separately. In regards to Judith Wright s Eve to Her Daughters (992)
this poem is coming from a coercion place of female oppression. Whereas, Robert Browning s
Porphyria s Lover (642) coercion place comes from one of compulsion to enforce his will upon his
lover Porphyria.
In Eve to Her Daughters the speaker is Eve and we, as the audience, are her daughters listening to her
story and guidance. The dramatic monologue we thereby envision is all through Eve s eyes and
therefore, we are able to experience what she is experiencing. The casualness of this poem and with
Eve s little jabs regarding Adam, But Adam, you know...! (8) makes it seem as if Eve is genuinely
speaking to us as if we were truly her daughters and that we personally are familiar with how

How Does Golding Use Symbols In Lord Of The Flies
Symbolism in The Lord of The Flies
It is impossible to read William Golding s novel, The Lord of the Flies, without noticing the
symbolism that was present. A symbol can be a person, place, or thing that represents something more
than its literal meaning (Telgen 15) From butterflies to actual characters, you could sense that this
book contained symbolism. Although Lord of the Flies appears on the surface to be a mere story about
children abandoned on an island, William Golding uses symbolism to convey a deeper meaning.
This novel had many accounts of symbolism. It also captured the keen interest of their instructors in
debating the merits and defeats of different characters and the hunting down of literary sources and
deeper symbolic meanings in the story (Telgen 2). Most of the events, characters, and objects had
symbolic meanings. His narrative style has an unusual lucidity and vitality because he never forgets
the concrete in his search for symbolic action (Cox 2). Golding consistently looked for ways to add
symbols in his novel. Many critics pointed out how much this story was symbolic. A story so
explicitly symbolic as this might easily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Teleological Ethics Approach To Cohabitation
A Teleological Ethics Approach to Cohabitation
According to teleological ethics, the outcome of the ethical decision is what matters. When it comes to
the ethical issue of cohabitation, most couples argue that their happiness is what counts. What matters
for them is not a public commitment to one another but whether or not they are in a happy and loving
relationship. Marriage is thus perceived as possessing little or no intrinsic worth but as being a means
to an end: the end, that is, of personal happiness or fulfillment . Yet it has been observed that married
people tend to be happier, healthier, wealthier, and they live longer... but these benefits of marriage
diminish considerably if the marital bond is replaced by non marital cohabitation. In the pursuit of
personal happiness and fulfillment, spouse and children are often looked upon not as people to be
loved and valued for their own sake but as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has left us open to doubts about our most fundamental understanding of about the parent child
bond, about marital permanence, about the link between marriage, sex and procreation. It has already
dragged innumerable children and adults into the very opposite of personal happiness . One of the
negative outcomes of cohabitation is that partners are more likely to be unfaithful than are married
spouses, and are more likely to be violent toward the other partner. And this lifestyle can become a
vicious cycle because as Horn has observed many adolescents are gaining morals from parents and
peers who are participating in or accepting cohabitation. Children born to cohabitants are considered
to be children born out of wedlock. The fact that one was born

Essay on Scarlet Letter
Scarlet Letter The Puritan Beliefs As Told Through The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne was not a Puritan. But Hawthrone s forefathers were Puritans, so he had an
understanding of their belief system and their basis behind it. He stated that he hoped the sins of his
forefathers had been forgiven. Hoping to expose those ideas which he understood, yet despised,
Hawthorne purposely presented many important Puritan beliefs as import aspects to the Scarlet Letter.
In the Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne addresses three main Puritan beliefs: providence, predestination, and
the strict code of ethics that the settlers of New Englanders lived by.
The first main Puritanical belief Hawthorne referred to was the belief in divine providence. ... Show

A second Puritan belief referred to in the Scarlet Letter is the idea of predestination. Predestination is
the belief that God has a plan for all his people and no matter how hard one works to change that
outcome, it will eventually be. The townspeople when Dimmesdale falls ill falsely believe it to come
forth out of the conflict, transfigured with the ... glory... (110). And since this earthly minister was
chosen as a battleground for the conflict between good and evil, he was predetermined to rise to a
saintly post in the heavens. Upon his death, Dimmesdale states ... it is vain to hope that we could
meet... in an everlasting and pure reunion. God knows... (226). And if God is the ultimate judge of his
fate and knows Dimmesdale s fate, it seems logical that Dimmesdale s fate is already predetermined.
The final belief of Puritan society mentioned by Hawthorne is the strict code of ethics. The Puritans
believed that every sin should be meet with an earthly punishment and well as a spiritual punishment.
The earthly punishment would often involve public humiliation. Harsher punishments would often
involve extended public infamy. The scarlet letter is an excellent example. As Roger Chillingworth
said : I can imagine a scheme of vengeance... so that this... burning shame may blaze upon thy bosom
(61). Along with Hester s letter, was Roger Chillingworth for choosing to keep his

The Importance Of Sedentary Lifestyles
There are various barriers that hinder the improvement of children s sedentary lifestyle. Consequently,
it is important to identify these barriers to facilitate a healthy atmosphere for our children. Even
though sedentary behavior usually keeps children in the safety of their homes, sedentary lifestyles can
cause serious health problems and must be stopped. Environmental and social barriers/factors can
prevent or minimize the access to outside physical activity like hiking, biking, running, etc., targeted
advertisement makes eating unhealthy food and promotes games that require very little physical
activity, and friend and family behaviors can influence the children to adopt unhealthy sedentary
behaviors. These barriers can lead to obesity, heart disease, and death, just to name a few. Social and
environmental barriers like living in a high crime neighborhood or crowded cities make it difficult for
children to feel safe going outside to play and engage in physical activities. These activities like
biking, running, hiking etc. condition our bodies to good cardio health and reduces the likelihood of
obesity, and heart disease. Per the CDC, people who are obese, are at increased risk for many serious
diseases and health conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, stroke, and high blood pressure (CDC,
2015). There is a ridiculous amount of advertisement that directly and indirectly targets our children.
In 2009, the Federal Trade Commission mentioned that 1.8 billion dollars

What Are The Similarities Between Ancient Greece And Rome
The Classical Periods of China, Greece, and Rome had complex, organized political structures due to
being notably expansive. The development of each civilization s government systems varied based on
location, economy, and cultural values. A successful government required maintaining the service to
the people, stability and urban growth. Whereas, the downfall of an empire was usually caused by
economic recessions, internal rebellions, or outside invasions. While China s pattern of political
control was strengthened by a series of dynasties containing emperors and bureaucrats, Greece and
Rome were dominated by the ruling of aristocrats with democratic components as well as tyrannies.
The unfavorable outcomes of these civilizations were affected by their ... Show more content on

Overtime, a dynasty grew weaker and tax revenues declined which developed social divisions. As
China expanded, it became harder to secure boundaries. The most significant vulnerability of China s
political structure was allowing excessive power. The Zhou dynasty collapsed due to relying on
alliances with regional princes and noble families which caused the central government to be ignored.
The Qin dynasty weakened because of Shi Huangdi s brutal attacks on culture and high taxes which
lead to an enormous peasant rebellion. The central control of the Han dynasty fell to the expansion of
corrupt bureaucrats causing invasions by the Huns. China required a balance of authority. Greece had
a mountainous landscape so it was hard to develop a single central government. Greece s typical
political organization were city states that used direct democracies. Each city state had a different
governing style. A main factor that led to Greece s fall was the lack of community due to the rise of
feudalism in society, independence, and competitiveness. Alliances shifted constantly while tension
and conflict increased between the rich and the

Personal Finance Case
McLaughlin (2009) states that the example organizations balance sheet (p. 125) does not show
adequate cash assets (line 45), given a supposed annual budget of $3.5 million dollars, to provide
adequate daily cash flow needs (p. 124). With year end cash assets of only $16,190, working down the
list of liquidable assets using McLaughlin s water metaphor savings and short term cash investments,
A/R, and (in the case of for profit industry) inventories for sale, the companies working capital could
be substantially increased providing more cash reserves.
While it appears that the example organization has sufficient assets that could be easily converted into
cash, given the financial information provided, their cash position seems to be delicate , ... Show more

Fortunately, there is an abundance of information available for nonprofit organizations regarding
financial risk assessments. Our example company would certainly benefit with a much larger cash
reserve, but it would also help to have, as mentioned, an understanding of cash flow needs well
described within a definitive budget. Having an understanding of approximate times required to
acquire cash from various assets would be helpful as well. External evaluation tools such as provided
by companies like Grant Thornton could be used to improve risk assessments, or perhaps just getting a
second (or third) opinion from an accounting agency to cover items possibly overlooked by internal
analysis. Klein (2013), writing for Grant Thornton, outlines their reserves planning packet: 1. Develop
a baseline long term financial forecast. 2. Perform a detailed analysis of potential risks. 3. Quantify
your average annual risk exposure. 4. Establish your target reserves level and funding approach (text).
These types of outlines could help establish a basis for understanding what any agencies financial
reserves should

  • 4. Was Haman Hanged Or Impaled In The Book Of Esther Analysis Was Haman Hanged or Impaled in the Book of Esther? As part of the battle between Mordecai (the hero) and Haman (the villain), Haman plans Mordecai s death, but in the end the instrument of death is turned on Haman himself. According to the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), Haman s wife suggested (verse 5:14) that a gallows fifty cubits [seventy five to eighty feet] high be made ... to have Mordecai hanged on it. The Jewish Publication Society of America Version (JPS). translation offers instead, Let a stake be put up ... to have Mordecai impaled on it. Verse 7:10 details the plot reversal: The King s men either hanged Haman on the gallows (NRSV) or impaled Haman on the stake (JPS). Which is it? Was it a gallows or stake? And was Haman hanged or impaled? King James Version (KJV), the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the New American Standard (NAS) render the beginning of the verse the same: So, they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. However, consider the NIV s take on the text: So, they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. (and to be fair, the NRSV contains a note that it should be rendered on a tree by impalement ) Clearly, hanging by the neck until dead and being shoved on a sharpened, wide perimeter stick are two (2) separate ways of dying. Where does the discrepancy come from? There are two (2) questions here, as there always are with matters of translation. 1. The first is what the original Hebrew means. 2. The second is how best to say that in English. Let s look at the Hebrew to examine the two (2) words in dispute. Gallows (KJV)/Pole(NIV) 1. The Hebrew word is ets and it is the most often translated in the Bible as tree, piece of wood, or pole. 2. The only examples of the word being translated as gallows appear in The Book of Esther Hanged (KJV)/Impaled(NIV) 1. The Hebrew word talah is used here and is the source of complexity in interpreting the image of death. 2. The word translates most often in the Bible to mean suspend or hang, and there are numerous examples of people hung on ets throughout the OT: Genesis 40:19, Deuteronomy 21:22, Joshua 8:29 and 10:20, 1 Samuel 31:10, and 2 Samuel ... Hence, it is important that pre service teachers are equipped with knowledge and understanding of the different theories of classroom management. Theories such as Goal Centered Theory [GCT], Cognitive Behavioural Theory [CBT] and Assertive Discipline Theory [AD] facilitate supportive learning environments to offer students superlative conditions to succeed at school. Research recommends the adoption of a single approach to inform and guide a pre service teachers classroom management style; however, a teacher s beliefs, attitudes and values help inform the best approach, whether that is aligning with one theory, a consolidation of concurring practices from ... To implement GCT effectively, teachers must be able to distinguish a student s individual motivation to misbehave and negotiate alternative solutions to prevent their misbehaviour (Dempsey Arthur Kelly, 2007, p.122: Lyons et al., p. 24). For example, by using preventative strategies such as engaging in whole class discussions, explicit instructions, modelled consistency and offering choice with rules, consequence and academic tasks, students may be able to recognise their personal intentions and maintain suitable behaviours (Lyons et al., p. 24). GCT has many strengths, for instance, it provides teachers with an effective framework to distinguish their students motivation to misbehave. Furthermore, it helps students to recognise and adapt their own misbehaviour that may arise from failure to meet social needs. GCT encourages constructive classroom environments, where students are intrinsically motivated and actively involved in their learning, thus they demonstrate accountability for their own academic achievement whilst considering the needs of others. However, critics of GCT believe that not every student has the need to be socially accepted and other reasons such as an inability to recognise motives or hidden motives may be responsible for their misbehaviour (Lyons et al., 2014, p. 24). Moreover, teachers who have limited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Elizabeth Moore Interview Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. This quote by Plato reminds me so much of Elizabeth Moore. She is spirited and loves to have fun. She also loves music and believes it is very important for music to be a part of young lives. I have known her since the day I was told we have the same name at church when I was younger. Through this interview, I learned something I will never forget hearing her say: I guess one change would be all of the killings going on now that wasn t when I was growing up. We all had a good time. I can t understand people killing each other. It s awful. I found myself feeling dismayed over this statement. Hearing about her young life, I felt disappointed in what our modern world has come to. We need more people like Elizabeth in this world! I loved listening to some of the happiest times she could recall, but there was one that stood out to me. Elizabeth was a music teacher, and a very dedicated one at that. She talked about the happiness she felt when her kids would win first in contest. The first year she took them to contest, they were awarded second place, but that wasn t good enough for her. • 9. Constantine s Personal Beliefs Constantine I is credited with adapting Christianity to the Roman Empire, ending persecution of Christians, and eventually converting to the religion himself. However, historians have debated over his motives; some consider them to be politically fueled, while others argue that they were based on personal beliefs. After considering the various changes that were brought upon following the conversion, it is clear that while Constantine s efforts were primarily strategically rooted, personal beliefs did play a subsidiary role. Constantine s multifaceted relationship with Christianity first emerged during his days as a successful general. The institution of Constantinople both indicated the break with its pagan past and highlighted its acceptance of Christianity. For example, Constantine did not allow pagan ceremonies in the city. Constantinople flourished as a spiritual and political capital for over a millennium. Constantine was, once again, most probably interested in the strategic location of the city, as it could be effectively used for trade and commercial purposes. Additionally, its position made it difficult to be conquered by rivaling nations. • 10. The Financial Crisis Of 2008 Essay The 2008 financial meltdown resulted in the most treacherous investment landscape observed since the great depression. The most notorious issue was the subprime mortgage crisis, which had a ripple effect felt through every market in the world. The banks, whose leverage rate should never have been higher than two times capitalization, surged as high as thirty to forty times market cap. With this level of exposure, any unforeseen market fluctuations could mean disaster. Lehman Brothers, the oldest investment bank on Wall Street, went bankrupt and thousands lost their jobs. Outside of finance, thousands of companies in the United States and abroad had to fire significant portions of their workforce, thus furthering the economic decline and plunging the US into an economic recession. In the late 1990s, Congress repealed the legislation separating commercial and investment banks, which resulted in investment banks overreaching their bounds. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 was enacted due to the effects of the subprime mortgage crisis, which allowed the US Treasury to spend billions of dollars to bail out the investment banks by purchasing distressed assets. However, the bailout plan has created a debate over whether it was a good idea for the government to bailout the investment banks. Also, if the government fared better or worse in the years following the bailout. The financial crash of 2008 created two paradigms, bailout and bankruptcy and to this day it is ... Lingual activist have many different definitions for bilingualism. Martín Espada and Richard Rodriguez both abandon the conventional sense of the word bilingualism, the ability to converse in multiple language. In Espada s essay, The New Bathroom Policy at English High School , he extends bilingualism to include the merging of cultures to sympathize and be immersed in a community. He believes that education s role is to help ease the mixing of identities. In Rodriguez s book, Hunger of Memory, he elaborates upon definition of bilingualism and creates his own distinction from Espada s interpretation. He believes that bilingualism is the coexistence of two identities, a public one which was English for him and a private one which was Spanish. He believes the iron fist enforcement of a language is key to reaching the state of bilingualism. My definition of bilingualism is an extension upon both Rodriguez and Espada. I believe bilingualism is the merging of multiple cultures but also the preservation of each culture, this allows one to be a multicultural being able to be defined as themselves rather than a culture. To survive in America s cultural war, Latinos must realize that they have a right to their identity and must refuse to be silenced. The Lake Of The Woods And The Vietnam Important Aspects in the Novel In the Lake of The Woods and The Vietnam in Me by Tim O Brien As most of the people in American spent time thinking about clothing and feeding themselves and their families, the rarely spend time thinking about philosophical issues. Tim O Brien says that he jars people to look into important things, meaning that he makes people look into the deeper meaning of the issues reflected in his novels instead of focusing on the basic issues alone. This paper will analyze the important aspects that are reflected in the Novel In the Lake of the Woods and the article The Vietnam in Me by Tim O Brien. Important Aspects In the Lake of The Woods by Tim O Brien One of the vital things in this novel is its setting. The major conflict in the story occurs at the northern west angle of Minnesota. The major characters in the novel, John and Kathy chose this location because of its isolation. This setting helps in shaping the story because that is where Kathy disappears, and the rest of the novel shifts attention to her search. Another important element in the setting of this story is the American political environment. When John enters the race for the Senate seat, the conflict between him and Kathy emerge as it reduces the interaction of the two. In addition, his involvement in politics unearths his involvement with Charlie Company which leads to his dismal failure in politics. • 26. The Kernel Of Roman Society Rosemaria Varghese HUMA 4312 Critical Paper II Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society Introduction In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave. Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). • 27. Inequality In Virginia Woolf We are all created equal, but we are not treated as equals. We like to believe that everyone is equal, but society doesn t treat everyone as what they were when created, equal. Virginia Woolf writes of society s inequality through describing two meals from two different colleges. What mattered was neither where the college was nor the name of it, but what mattered was that one was for men and the other for women. Woolf was was served one meal from the colleges and there were some striking differences. Through her writing, Woolf s use of vocabulary, tone, and emotional appeal help support her attitude that women aren t treated equal compared to men. In reading both passages, there is a clear difference in her vocabulary for describing the meals. Here, however, I shall take the liberty to defy that convention and to tell you that the lunch on this occasion began with soles, sunk in deep dish, over which the college cook had spread a counterpane of the whitest cream, save that it was branded here and there with brown spots like the spots on the flanks of a doe (Woolf, Passage 1, Sentence 4). Here was the soup. It was a plain gravy soup. There was nothing to stir the fancy in that (Woolf, Passage 2, Sentence 6 8). Not only was there a change in vocabulary, but there was also a change in the length of her sentences. Woolf s experience in the men s college was given a lot of detail compared to her experience in the women s college. We can infer, from her vocabulary, that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The practice of administering inhaled high concentration oxygen to patients suffering chest pain is widespread, has been followed for about a century, and is advised in major textbooks of emergency care, general medicine, and cardiology. There remains an expectation amongst the general public and medical practitioners that oxygen simply forms part of the standard treatment of a sick patient (Nicholson, 2004). A review of the evolution of supplemental oxygen therapy reveals that it is not evidence based, and there is uncertainty about the benefits and safety. This paper will discuss the different approaches of the use of high concentration oxygen therapy for the client with acute chest pain, including previously conducted trials. The physiological benefits and harms, the variation in international guidelines and the need for future research will also be analysed. Chest pain is a common and often non specific symptom that can be caused by a number of underlying conditions , one of the most serious being Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), commonly known as a heart attack (Chapman, Leslie, Sage, 2012, p. 12). High concentration oxygen therapy, levels greater than 60%, has been advocated for the treatment of AMI and chest pain for nearly three quarters of a century (Ranchord, Perrin, Weatherall, Beasley, Simmonds, 2012). • 32. Fate Or Free Will Controls Human Lives Generally, fate refers to the development of events beyond a person s control (Aurobindo). As such, a fatalist is a person who believes that whatever happens is, and always was, unavoidable. Moreover, such a person strongly believes that he or she has no control over what happens the next moment, tomorrow, next year, or several years to come. Free will, on the other hand, is formed by the power of sanction (Aurobindo). In other words, it is consent by the spirit that it shall not be bound but that its enjoyment should be bound by time, space, and causality and by the swabhava and the dharma (Aurobindo). To determine whether fate or free will controls human lives, it is important to objectively analyse, synthesizes, and respond to the critical conversation that the authors of class readings seem to be engaging with regard to this subject. In connection to this, humanity has been fascinated by fate and free will for a long time. Some philosophers in the Ancient Greek and the Middle Ages believed that free will influenced human destiny while others believed that fate was responsible for what befell mankind. The theme of fate conspicuously permeates Homer s famous poem, Ilad, from the first to the last sentence. The author asserts that death is a natural and unavoidable part of human existence from the onset by affirming that Akhilleus anger is doomed and ruinous. In this regard, fate but not free will defines consciousness in the Trojan War. Although everybody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Cooperation And Altruism Is What Largely Divides Humans... Cooperation and altruism is what largely divides humans from other animals. While some primate and certain other species do seem to show some precursors to these types of behaviors, none come close to the ability of humans to help each other. Much of this has to do with our ability to act unselfishly despite the fact that in the short term being selfish would be more beneficial. Some groups take this to the extreme like the Hutterites who live in a society where everyone works to serve others. In his book The Origins of Virtue Matt Ridley claims that we are all Hutterites at heart (38). However, this does not actually seem to be true the majority of the time. In fact, more often and not, we act selfishly if we can get away with it without any repercussions. One of the strongest bits of evidence against this statement comes from experiments in children that show that very young children are more likely to act selfishly instead of altruistically. Additionally, game theory studies have shown that people are overall more selfish when they are anonymous compared to when their actions and decisions are being watched. This would seem to indicate Hutterite s beliefs are not so central to our lives. At the same time, these studies also show that people are not as selfish as would be expected if they were only looking out for their benefit. And there are plenty of instances where a person goes out of their way to help a complete stranger. Overall, I think Ridley s claim is mostly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people take a look at stained glass and just admire the beauty, but not the work that goes into it. The intense planning and preparations in deciding what to make and how to put it all together. Not until recently, there has been no real equation for stained glass, but that has changed. People can now use formulas and equations to take a part a piece of work. All over the world stained glass is known. There is much more to stained glass than just what meets the eyes of the people who see it. Stained glass contrasts from natural images. It has a wider dynamic range between highlight and shadow areas. The name comes from the silver stain on the outside of the building. There is no exact place where stained glass originated from. It is said that stained glass was an accidental finding. According to Pliny s tale Phoenician sailors left a mixture of cooking pots, sand, and soda to burn overnight created stained glass. As you can assume, this was not a very consistent method. Therefore, the findings are given to Egyptians or Mesopotamian potters. In this experiment, copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous calcium gained mass. The anhydrous calcium chloride became hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from the copper sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher percent of water from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the experiment was 2.61%. The percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been driven off. A lower percent error could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more. Suggested Improvements: When the lab experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the casserole was heated before the hydrate was place in it, then the water that might have been in the casserole prior to the sample being added would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole was not heated, the result may have been of a higher mass of water being loss. Media and advertisements set their standards for men to be tall, muscular, board upper body, v line and have beards etc. Neither males nor females live without having standards set up for them by society and media. Widely held perceptions of beauty and perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men. Some impact is that these standards will continue to exist in our future culture and both genders will never feel comfortable in their own skin/body. Both men and women would continue to judge themselves and their beauty. Magazines and advertisements usually have images of men without their shirts in order to show off their muscles and to attract customers. This makes members of society expect to see a six pack,v line and pectorals when a male takes off their shirt. This gives teenage boys fear to take off their shirt when going to the beach or smaller situations like going inside a pool because they are scared to be criticized for not being muscular. Magazines display images of these fake models for both men and women which creates intimidation. Study of mass media magazines discovered that women s magazines had 10.5 times more advertisements and articles promoting weight loss than men s magazines did (as cited in Guillen Barr.1944). The two poems I have chosen to analyze are Judith Wright s Eve to Her Daughters (992) and Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover (642) and what they have in relation to one another. I will be examining the dramatic monologue form that takes place in both poems and how it could present the image and possibility for coercion. I will discuss how, with the utilization of dramatic monologue, we as the audience, experience the speaker s world with a glimpse into their personal perspectives alongside with their mentalities. Furthermore, I will highlight the similarities and differences between the poems, how both poems interact with one another, and what we can comprehend with both poems that would not be possible if viewed separately. In regards to Judith Wright s Eve to Her Daughters (992) this poem is coming from a coercion place of female oppression. Whereas, Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover (642) coercion place comes from one of compulsion to enforce his will upon his lover Porphyria. In Eve to Her Daughters the speaker is Eve and we, as the audience, are her daughters listening to her story and guidance. The dramatic monologue we thereby envision is all through Eve s eyes and therefore, we are able to experience what she is experiencing. How Does Golding Use Symbols In Lord Of The Flies Symbolism in The Lord of The Flies It is impossible to read William Golding s novel, The Lord of the Flies, without noticing the symbolism that was present. A symbol can be a person, place, or thing that represents something more than its literal meaning (Telgen 15) From butterflies to actual characters, you could sense that this book contained symbolism. Although Lord of the Flies appears on the surface to be a mere story about children abandoned on an island, William Golding uses symbolism to convey a deeper meaning. This novel had many accounts of symbolism. It also captured the keen interest of their instructors in debating the merits and defeats of different characters and the hunting down of literary sources and deeper symbolic meanings in the story (Telgen 2). Most of the events, characters, and objects had symbolic meanings. His narrative style has an unusual lucidity and vitality because he never forgets the concrete in his search for symbolic action (Cox 2). And if God is the ultimate judge of his fate and knows Dimmesdale s fate, it seems logical that Dimmesdale s fate is already predetermined. Consequently, it is important to identify these barriers to facilitate a healthy atmosphere for our children. Even though sedentary behavior usually keeps children in the safety of their homes, sedentary lifestyles can cause serious health problems and must be stopped. Environmental and social barriers/factors can prevent or minimize the access to outside physical activity like hiking, biking, running, etc., targeted advertisement makes eating unhealthy food and promotes games that require very little physical activity, and friend and family behaviors can influence the children to adopt unhealthy sedentary behaviors. These barriers can lead to obesity, heart disease, and death, just to name a few. Social and environmental barriers like living in a high crime neighborhood or crowded cities make it difficult for children to feel safe going outside to play and engage in physical activities. These activities like biking, running, hiking etc. condition our bodies to good cardio health and reduces the likelihood of obesity, and heart disease. Per the CDC, people who are obese, are at increased risk for many serious diseases and health conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, stroke, and high blood pressure (CDC, 2015). The development of each civilization s government systems varied based on location, economy, and cultural values. A successful government required maintaining the service to the people, stability and urban growth. Whereas, the downfall of an empire was usually caused by economic recessions, internal rebellions, or outside invasions. Overtime, a dynasty grew weaker and tax revenues declined which developed social divisions. As China expanded, it became harder to secure boundaries. The most significant vulnerability of China s political structure was allowing excessive power. The Zhou dynasty collapsed due to relying on alliances with regional princes and noble families which caused the central government to be ignored. The Qin dynasty weakened because of Shi Huangdi s brutal attacks on culture and high taxes which lead to an enormous peasant rebellion. The central control of the Han dynasty fell to the expansion of corrupt bureaucrats causing invasions by the Huns. China required a balance of authority. Greece had a mountainous landscape so it was hard to develop a single central government. Greece s typical political organization were city states that used direct democracies. Each city state had a different governing style. A main factor that led to Greece s fall was the lack of community due to the rise of feudalism in society, independence, and competitiveness. • 46. Personal Finance Case McLaughlin (2009) states that the example organizations balance sheet (p. 125) does not show adequate cash assets (line 45), given a supposed annual budget of $3.5 million dollars, to provide adequate daily cash flow needs (p. 124). With year end cash assets of only $16,190, working down the list of liquidable assets using McLaughlin s water metaphor savings and short term cash investments, A/R, and (in the case of for profit industry) inventories for sale, the companies working capital could be substantially increased providing more cash reserves. While it appears that the example organization has sufficient assets that could be easily converted into cash, given the financial information provided, their cash position seems to be delicate , ... Our example company would certainly benefit with a much larger cash reserve, but it would also help to have, as mentioned, an understanding of cash flow needs well described within a definitive budget. Having an understanding of approximate times required to acquire cash from various assets would be helpful as well. External evaluation tools such as provided by companies like Grant Thornton could be used to improve risk assessments, or perhaps just getting a second (or third) opinion from an accounting agency to cover items possibly overlooked by internal analysis. Klein (2013), writing for Grant Thornton, outlines their reserves planning packet: 1. Develop a baseline long term financial forecast. 2. Perform a detailed analysis of potential risks. 3. Quantify your average annual risk exposure. 4. Establish your target reserves level and funding approach (text). These types of outlines could help establish a basis for understanding what any agencies financial reserves should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
