Essay about Tools of the Craft
Tools of the Craft So you have decided you want to write. Perhaps you may feel you need to write.
Sometimes this urge inside you is so sweet and urgent that you find yourself imagining the smooth
feel of the keyboard beneath your fingertips. You can hear the tap tap of the keys as your fingers
fly over them, forming words, sentences, paragraphsand pages of images that will flow from your
mind to another s in a bizarre and wondrous kind of telepathy. This desire may come to you as you
are studying, attending classes, or working, making you yearn for the time when the tedious details
of life might be abated, if only for a moment, so that you can finally work on your story.
When at last you are able to grasp your favored writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is highly recommended that this book be read first whether the writer is confident about their
ability to follow the rules of grammar or not.
After you have read enough of Strunk White to feel somewhat confident (or even frustrated) by
the rules that you already knew or forgot, examine Style by Joseph M. Williams. Mr. Williams is
a professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Chicago. You may have already
encountered another book published by the University on the subject. Fear not; Williams book is
not an immense conundrum of rules in the same vein as The Chicago Manual of Style. I prefer to
think of it as a response to Strunk White; Williams will address many of the same rules of writing
from a refreshingly unique viewpoint. Some readers may find his work incredibly dull and prefer
The Elements of Style for its short and simple guidelines. Or you may find yourself enjoying a
newfound sense of freedom from the rather liberal suggestion of Williams that some rules are, in
fact, meant to be broken. If you are of an analytical or logical frame of mind you may enjoy the
many diagrams and trees he created as examples of his statements. If you do not fit into this group,
do not let these examples get in the way of the underlying message. Writing, Williams appears to
suggest, is not about rules and

Getting into a Fraternity or Sorority
College is something everyone dreams about while in high school. It may seem fun and
exciting, but there is a tremendous number of mistakes that can happen. For instance, imagine
someone has just been accepted into college, and it is her first day. She thought it was a dream
to be in a sorority, but in reality it was a nightmare. After a week, she knows Hell Week is
coming, but she wants shake everything off, and think everything is going well and the other
members will accept her with no hesitation. Today is a lazy day, and she is just sitting in her dorm
watching television, and out of nowhere, she was blindfolded and thrown into a car. Her fellow
frat members start to beat her with random objects, and they say harsh words to break her... Show

(Laws). Have you ever wondered why they do not have hazing laws? No one truly knows why they
do not have the laws. As some people think, hazing is a great thing, and it puts people through a
great experience to go through. Since hazing can endanger the physical safety of a person, and
produces mental, physical discomfort, and causes dismay, humiliation, and dehumanizes an
individual, society needs to learn about hazing and stop it from happening. We know that people
consider it a tradition that has been going on for ages, but it s an appalling experience to go
through. Everywhere around the world hazing is happening and not one person can do a thing
about it. The earliest recorded event of hazing occurred in eighteen thirty eight. The first recorded
death happened in eighteen forty eight. (Hank). So you can see why some may consider it a
tradition. Many hazing incidents do not just involve members of a certain group, but sometimes it
can also include the coach or who is in charge of the group. Twenty two percent of coaches or
advisors are involved in hazing towards the athlete or student. Many of the coaches and advisors
even help perform the hazing incidents! (Coaches). A person who you would think would be a role
model to their players involve themselves in these involuntary acts.Next time someone thinks that
they have the best coach a team can have, always remember someone can be

Four Theories Of Motivation
Over the past years different theories on motivation have been developed. These theories reach
different conclusions on what motivate employees in their workplace. Job satisfaction, motivation,
and reward systems are included in one area of organizational theory. A review of the classical
literature on motivationreveals four major theory areas:
1.Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs;
2.Herzberg s Motivation/Hygiene (two factor) Theory;
3.McGregor s X Y Theories; and
4.McClelland s Need for Assessment Theory.
Maslow states that people are motivated by unmet needs which are in a hierarchical order that
prevents people from being motivated by a need area unless all lower level needs have been met.
Herzberg states that satisfaction and dissatisfaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our company organizes different activities which create a sense of community via team based
projects and social events during the year for the employees. Such as seminar Employee
engagement Workshop every year. It would be held outside the organization premises with the aim
to continue building team work among our employees. Moreover our department every now and
then organize a night out so we can meet in a more social and friendly atmosphere environment
where we can get to know each other better and build a friendly relationship.
When a good social network is in place, the employee then looks for a feeling of self esteem.
When an employee do a good job it is very important that it would be noticed, given a positive
feedback and if necessary give also reward. In our company used to send e mails and also fix
papers on notice board to say thank you and also to inform the employees with the success of the
organization as the management believe that the success of the whole organization achieved is due
to the contribution of each and every employee. In this way the employees feel that their work is

Analysis Of The Slow Paced spring Summer Winter Spring...
Few words are spoken in Kim Ki duk s Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. Yet much is
expressed regarding humankind s relationship with nature. The slow paced, contemplative movie
explores key Buddhist principles, including rebirth and meditation, through the life of an apprentice
monk. Laden with heavy symbolism, as seen in the use of the seasons, animals, architecture,
medicine and punishment, the film deeply considers people s connection to their environment,
stressing in particular the importance of both inner and outer harmony. Seasons The seasons are
likely the most notable motif of the film, which progresses through them as they match the stages
of the Apprentice s life. As the once young man presumably returns towards the end to replace his
old master, the wheel of life turns again. The beautiful cinematography, featuring long shots of the
surrounding landscape, captures the breathtaking beauty of the area as the seasons change. By
enriching the movie with these scenes, rather than focusing on just the plot, Kim invites the viewer
to appreciate the setting s beauty, allowing time for reflection on both the story and the cyclical
tendencies of nature and life. Following the seasons through the Apprentice s life reflects a cycle of
rebirth that is an integral part of Buddhist teachings. Animals More subtly, animals also play a
significant role in each stage of the Apprentice s life. Like the seasons, one creature matches up
with the Apprentice during each phase

Conscription During WWI
Time Ameliorates Lingual Wounds
Differences of belief between different ethnic, cultural, and racial groups are undoubtedly the
biggest contributor to disputes within the history of the world. WWI started due to a disagreement
between Austria and Hungary, and WWII started because Hitler s beliefs differed from those of the
Jewish. Despite being one of the most accepting countries in the world, Canada is no exception.
Since confederation, there have always been constant disputes between different groups of
Canadians, mainly the French and English community residing in Canada. Although both groups
belong to the same nation, discord arose mainly due to language barriers and different backgrounds.
This being said, the French English relations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1960s, the Quiet Revolution occurred in Canada, a struggle in regards to French
Canadians becoming integrated into Canadian society. It was also during this time that many
notable separatist movements emerged from the depths of Quebec, including the Parti
QuГ©bГ©cois and the Bloc QuГ©bГ©cois. The Bloc QuГ©bГ©cois began as a leftist
movement but quickly grew into a party by 1963; similarly, the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois was formed
in 1968. They mainly gained support because French Canadians believed their rights were being
compromised by English Canadians. Krueger states in Encyclopedia Britannica, French Canadian
nationalists favoured some form of enhanced status for Quebec: special status within
confederation, a new form of association on the basis of equality with English Canada, or
complete independence as a sovereign country. On November 15, 1976, the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois
finally came into power in Quebec. Despite coming very close to separating over the years with a
vote turnout of 49.4 to 50.6 in 1991, the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois never managed to truly fulfill its
purpose of separating from Canada. This was in part due to new language rights introduced to

Slavery in the Movie The Help Essay
The term The Help according to dictionary.com means the action of helping someone to do
something. Which refers to the duty of a person that helps keep a household clean and
organized. Back when racism was still openly accepted by society, black women were the only
candidates available for this type of job, because it was very difficult for them to find jobs. The
job of being The Help in the house for rich white folks includes taking care of the kids, the house,
and worry about preparing 3 meals a day for the white family they work for. The term of The
Help doesn t exist anymore in today s world, well at least nobody uses that team for it anymore,

Aibileen was being treated like as if she wasn t a human, because she wasn t allowed to use the
same bathroom in the house that she cleans and takes care of every singe day, but instead was
built her own separate bathroom. She was treated bad and was also paid badly. The money she
was being paid is not even enough for her to put together a household and to pay bills. While all
this was going on, she found a way to fight back by helping a young girl write a book that
exposes how The Helps were being treated in the households they take care of. Nowadays,
society don t use the term The Help to describe a person that is hired to take care of a household
of a person that was hired to give an helping hand. Instead they call them a Nanny. The job of a
Nanny is still the same as that of The Help from back in the days, but the only difference is that
they get more respect from whoever hires them and they get a better pay and living condition.
Plus it is not only black women that are involved in these types of work anymore. Nowadays it
varies in terms of races. In an interview that my partner and me had with a Nanny named Rita
Asento where we found out that things are very different now compare to the olden days.
During the interview the Nanny was asked to describe her occupation and what she does, she gave

How far do you agree with the opinion that courtship and marriage are undermined and ridiculed in
The Taming of the Shrew ?
Shakespeare s drama The Taming of the Shrew is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and
courtship was very different than how it is in the present. Back then it was the parents who picked
suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled
against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. Romeo and Juliet is an example of
this. In our Taming of the Shrew this is no different as Baptista Minola chooses the suitors in which
marry his daughters.
We first see this undermining of courtshipand marriage when Petruchio speaks of his view on ...

Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of falling in love from Katherina as he forces her to
marry him and her father happily abides, will you, nill you, I will marry you . This again makes
a charade of marriage. I agree when CoppГ©lia Kahn says The overt force Petruchio wields over
Kate by marrying her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and
comfort, stamping, shouting, reducing her to exhaustion, etc., is but a farcical representation of the
psychological realities of marriage... as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect
example of Shakespeare s attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage.
As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which carries out our desire
to simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the whole person; man retains all his energy yet
never really gets hurt and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of
marriage.
Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio s plans to
disguise himself as a schoolmaster well seen in music to instruct Bianca . Lucentio also disguises
himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may woo Bianca secretly. This
shows courtship to be a mockery as when you court someone, you are opening up and showing the
person who you are and that you ve nothing to hide. Hortensio is doing the complete opposite as

Tomb Of Romeo And Juliet
I think Romeo and Juliet and the tomb are based on truth. The story of Romeo and Juliet is
much older than when Shakespeare wrote the story we know today as Romeo and Juliet, it was
not a coincidence that Romeo and Juliet and the tomb go together, and the tomb was made for
the Capulets. Since Shakespeare did not write the story of Romeo and Juliet, the story could be
much older. Since the story could be much older the tomb could be much older. No one knows
the date of the tomb that was made previously because the tomb was recreated into the form we
know today. It is not a coincidence the play and the tomb are together. People always like to see
historic places or figures of something they find interesting, in this case it would be the Tomb

Creon, King of Thebes, has done much wrong. He abused his power, he made harsh laws and he

Where Creon first realizes he made an irreversible mistake is when he realizes everyone he loves
or has loved has died and is gone forever and can t come back. As Creon sobs over what he has
done he says, Whatever my hands have touched has come to nothing, fate has brought all my
pride to a thought of dust, (789). Creon lost everything he has done. He believes everything he
has done has been obliterated and does not exist. He blames fate and himself for what has
happened. Creon realizes he has lost all that he has loved and he realizes it was his own fault
that this has happened. The second time Creon realizes he has made an irreversible mistake is
when he realizes that has done a lot wrong and that what he has done brought him great
pain.Creon, now understanding what he has done, says, The pains that men will take to pain,
(787). Creon now fully understand what he has done. He knows that he has made mistakes,
many bad mistakes over his time as king and maybe even prior. He knows now that his mistakes
have led to the pain he is feeling. The pain of his wife, son, and part of himself gone forever.
Creon can be shown as the tragic hero by his realization of an irreversible mistake he has made
and the way he has has been abusing his power as king. He has lost his family through the awful
decisions he has made. He even knows that he himself has made mistakes. He know that the
mistakes he has made caused him to live without his son or wife. Creon realizes he has made
mistakes and the mistakes have led to his family s death and has led to his suffering, this is what

Examples Of Epic Heroes In The Odyssey
The epic hero is a staple of classic Greek myths, and Odysseus is a prime example. Epic heroes are
always loyal, which is a very prominent trait of Odysseus, for better or for worse. Odysseus
believes in his men, even after they completely disobey his orders. More importantly, he stayed
loyal to his wife (more or less), even after being apart for 20 years. He missed his son s life, and yet
neither of them were ever far from his mind. Another great example of the epic herois the love of
glory. Part of what made Odysseusso loyal to his men was how much they fed his ego, which is a
direct example of what makes him crave glory. He also had a constant thirst for adventure and
curiosity, making him fit all the criteria to crave glory as an epic

Teaching Students With Challenging Behaviors
Teaching students with challenging behaviors begins with understanding behaviors utilizing
Culturally Responsive Instructions and strategies. Howard is a sixth grader that has been referred
to the office six times in four month by his first year teacher Ms. Anderson for his insubordinations
. Based on Ms. Anderson observations Howard exhibits specific weakness in mathematics resulting
in incomplete in class work assignments and avoidance behaviors when asked to work at the
whiteboard. Howard s outbursts according to Educators Rick Lavoine students would rather be bad
than dumb. Creating intervention plan will accurately document the function, and communication
behind his behaviors. Howard exhibits behaviors that may be misconstrued as misbehaviors in the
classroom at times. Generating a learning community is a collaborative effort that requires an
inclusive background of experts. Together, teachers, parents/guardians, and other professionals can
create a comprehensive behavior intervention plan to understand Howard better. Creating
Culturally responsive learning environments is created when a multidisciplinary team
acknowledges negative images and creates positive self cultural diffractions. Howard humiliated
one of his peers by commenting on the status and type of car their father drives. SocioEcomocia

Superheroes In The Incredibles
The Incredibles is a 2004 animated film produced by Pixar Studios. It takes place in a superhero
filled world in the 1960 s. The film follows former superheroes, Bob and Helen Parr, as well as
their super powered children. The film breaks from the convention of the genre through its focus on
the consequence of hero work, the subversion of the typical protagonist and its lack of source
material.
Often in superhero films, heroes are able to tear up whole cities in the pursuit of stopping a villain
with next to no repercussions resulting from the property damage they caused; this type of
careless display of destruction was shown in such films as The Avengers (2012), and was most
notably criticized in 2013 s Man of Steel. The Incredibles, however, ... Show more content on

After the events of the opening sequence, it cuts to 15 years later, as they are no longer allowed
to use their superpowers, Bob is working at a mundane office job and Helen (formerly Elastigirl)
is at home taking care of their children. Heroes are often shown as younger and physically fit, not
middle aged and married; even in films where they follow a more mature hero, such as Tony
Stark in Iron Man (2008), and subsequent films; he is still a childless bachelor. Centering the
film on characters in this phase of life brings an interesting perspective on what it would be like
to juggle a family and superhero work. Moreover, unlike other superhero teams, which may
position the team as coming together to form familial like relationship through their shared super
powered abilities, as in X Men (2000), or through an organization like Avengers (2012), The
Incredibles has the superhero team as an actual family. The film displays a realistic, slightly
dysfunctional family dynamic, making the characters feel real instead portraying them like gods or
icons to look up to, as superheroes often

The Importance Of The Insanity Plea
Humans, being the complex creatures that they are, are fully capable of making cognizant, rational
choices, choices which can affect other persons, either in a positive or negative fashion. However,
in some cases, humans are unable to control their own thoughts. Those unable to control their
minds are often referred to as mentally ill, and with that label comes unruly consequences. Because
of their mental status, persons suffering from mental health issues do not have the same ability to
cope with reality or make intentional decisions that have a negative impact. Their inability to
process major decisions can lead to serious crimes being committed without intent. Today,
approximately 44 million American adults suffer from a mental... Show more content on

Movies, television shows, books, and more establish the insanity defense as frequently used. A
misconception about the insanity defense is that a person will plead not guilty by reason of
insanity in order to get away with a crime he or she was fully, mentally and physically,
responsible for. However; the instance of being acquitted due to pleading not guilty by reason of
insanity is rare. In order to be acquitted, the defendant must be clinically diagnosed as insane by a
mental health expert. In 1985, out of one hundred percent of all insanity plea cases, less than ten
percent of the defendants were diagnosed as mentally insane in the states of Michigan, Maine,
Minnesota, and Wyoming (Blau 437). A successful insanity plea is rare; however, if the defendant
is found not guilty, he or she is admitted into an institution where he or she will be monitored until
it is concluded that he or she will not be a danger to himself, herself, or

The Social Cognition Approach And The Discursive Approach
Attitudes are one of the main themes in social psychology. The attitudes we hold allow us to
express ourselves through our values and ideologies as well as comprehend people around us. We
can make predictions about others values from what they say and how they behave, this in turn
reduces uncertainty and enables us to adapt and alter our behaviours in a socially desirable way
(McKinlay and McVittie, 2009). Research surrounding the concept of attitudes comes from two
distinct theoretical positions; the social cognition approach and the discursive approach. The
mainstream cognitive approach regards attitudes as measurable entities through schemas and
models, while the discursive psychology(DP) deals with written and spoken means of
communication and has attempted to reorientate our perspective on attitude research. First, this
essay will attempt to define attitudes from both spheres of thought and outline the guiding
principles of each approach. Moreover, both approaches alongside their differing methodologies
will be evaluated with reference to empirical research.
Psychologists in both the cognitive and discursive field believe that attitudes are central to our
understanding of human behaviour yet they differ in their definition of the concept. The cognitive
approach builds upon a very operational understanding of attitudes, defining them as an inner
cognitive states whereby a person may generate favourable or unfavourable thoughts and/or feelings
towards a person, idea

Special Educational Needs Support For Children With...
According to the government (GOV.UK, 2016), special educational needs support is available at
all educational levels. This was in light of international developments, modifications to national
legislation and decisions by law makers. The key international influencer was presented by the
Salamanca Statement and Framework for Action (UNESCO, 1994). Also, two cases in particular
the O Donoghue (1993) and Sinnott (2000) cases contributed significantly to changes in educational
provision for children with special needs (Griffin and Shevlin, 20111). The first case the O
Donoghue (1993) concerned eight year old boy with special needs. The courts supported the
claimant to ensure that children were permitted to primary educationand the government was
compiled to make adequate changes to the curriculum and teaching to make certain that they could
make the best use of their capacities (Carey, 2005). The second case concerned Jamie Sinnott who
had s severe form of autism and mental and physical dysfunction. The case concluded that the state
was required to provide lifelong education for people with severe/profound general disabilities. It is
now evident that inclusion in education is an important factor. This reduces exclusion from culture,
curricula and communities of local schools. Not only is inclusion an educational or professional
matter but an issue of fundamental human rights concerning everybody (Wertheimer, 1997).Both

Sino Soviet Relations
To what extent was the deterioration in Sino Soviet relations in the years 1958 69 due to personal
rivalries?
The deterioration in Sino Soviet relations between 1958 1969 is due to a number of different
factorssome historians argue that conflicting personal rivalries between Mao and Khrushchev
contributed to the split until 1964, however other historians argue that other factors influenced the
deterioration. For example both sides were ideologically different, this can be seen as they were
both pursuing different methods of achieving communism, and during many occasions they
disagreed with each other. However the most significant factor causing the split was their
conflicting national interests, as although without the existing personal ... Show more content on

This shows a clear confliction in national interests, and a cause for a deterioration in Sino Soviet
relations was the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Due to this, Mao introduced his policy of
active defence towards the USSR and this was because of his paranoia that the USSR could try to
assert dominance over China. This shows a clear confliction of national interests as the USSR was
preventing China from expansion and this added to the initial ideological and personality disputes
stated above. Therefore the deterioration in Sino Soviet relations was due to conflicting national
interests more than personality and ideological clashes as from this, both sides clearly wanted
different things, conflict between them was inevitable.
Finally another argument that some historians put forward is the Ussuri River dispute in 1969
where both sides shared a common border. This was one of the most important reasons for the
deterioration in relations because it was the first time both sides came into direct conflict with the
other during this in which on the first day, over 30 Soviet soldiers died. This showed a direct cause
for deterioration in relations, because two countries cannot be allies if they are constantly at
fighting with one another. These border disputes had been ongoing for many years, showing that a
fundamental cause for the deterioration in relations between the

The Goal Of The Indian Boarding Schools
The Indian boarding schools had many goals; however, the primary goal was to completely
obliterate the culture of indigenous people. This process was done through small goals. The
Indians didn t have many options. The only options that they were given were either to be killed or
to assimilate into white civilization through Indian boarding schools. Richard Pratt, a former
military man is a prime example of implementing Indian boarding schools. Indian children were
taking from their home reservations to attend off reservation boarding schools. The goals of the
boarding schoolwere to kill the Indian, save the man. Indians attending boarding schools were going
through an assimilationprocess. The long term goalwas to leave with a white man s image or with
white ways. This was achieved through Indians being forced to cut their hair, wearing military
uniforms, learning English, new religion (ex: Christianity). Through this process, many children
forgot what their birth given name was. It was not uncommon for children to return back to their
reservation with no recollection of who they are Your name s not Billy. Your name s TAH rruhm,
she told him (Bear, Charla). The white Anglo Saxons goal was to erase anything associated with
Indian culture because in their minds they viewed Indians as savages. The white people in charge
of running these boarding schools went to extreme lengths to achieve erasure. These short term
goals were very traumatizing for the children

Essay on Symbolism in The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
Symbolism in The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
A symbol is an act, person, thing, or spectacle that stands for something else, by association a
usually broader idea in addition to its own literal meaning (Cassill Bausch, 1728). John Steinbeck s
The Chrysanthemums may seem as a story describing a simple day with the Allen couple. It begins
with Elisa Allen working in her garden and her husband, Henry Allen, negotiating with two suited
business men that want to purchase steers. They seem to engage in conversations and go about
their day as they normally would do. By the time the story ends, they are on their way to dinner
and a movie. At first glance, this story may seem as nothing special, just a day in the life of fairly ...

This description of the Salina Valley is closely related to her character. Elisa s isolation and
constraint is represented by the description of the valley. Elisa feels cut off from the rest of the
world; she has no independence, and lives in a male dominated society. The valley being described
as a, closed pot can also be considered a metaphor for Elisa s existence, she knows how the rest of
her life is going to be, and she is not happy knowing that she is so limited in choices.
Elisa lives in a masculine world with countless qualities hidden under her man s hat, clodhopper
shoes, and a big corduroy apron she wears to garden. One of the reasons that Elisa may feel more
restricted is because of the fact that she does not have any children to distract her, therefore
spends the majority of the time contemplating about her life. This gives a slight indication that
they might not be able to have children. During the period of time that this story was written, it
was very unlikely for a married woman, especially at the age of thirty five, not to have children.
The fact that Elisa is childless makes it even more evident that she seems to need more fulfillments
in her life. The importance of Elisa s gardening abilities is that she wishes to take care of someone,
and since she has no one other that Henry, which does not seem much of help for her, she transfers
these maternal instincts onto her flowers. As one can see already, the Chrysanthemums that Elisa

Gender Myths and Feminist Fables: The Struggle for Interpretive Power in Gender and
Development is a piece of work that begins to unpick the issue of myths within gender and
development. Cornwall et al examine how myths have a twofold nature they can at once be both
useful and problematic in their creation and in how they are interpreted into policy use by
developmental agencies. The article explores the uneasy space in which these myths are
appropriated into processes, and how certain myths become embedded in developmental practise
whilst others are cast aside because of the power differentials within ... Show more content on

The essay will conclude that this article is useful in thinking about how myths (and language) need
to be addressed in order to achieve the important goal of shifting power dynamics, both within the
real world and the development sector itself, to bring about real change for women and girls
globally.
The power and importance of the generation of myths is at the heart of Gender myths and feminist
fables . The article is inspired by the frustration within the development sector with these myths and
highlights how ideas and representations of women, often initially based on feminist research,
become translated through development language into myths. These myths are then appropriated
into simplistic slogans a variety of catchphrases coined by different NGOs, institutions and
government campaigns that reduce the plight of women to a few buzzwords. The researchers put
some focus on the beneficial and unifying nature of myths within development. Cornwall et al
harness the works of Albert Hirschmann and Georges Sorel to demonstrate that myths are an
integral part of development because they have the power to move i.e. in a practical sense, myths
are able to capture the heart of the public and ensure support is pledged to aid agencies. Myths are
important, because they act as agents for change encoding truths in narratives that nourish and
sustain convictions both for development

Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
Analysis of; I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud by William Wordsworth
The poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud was written by William Wordsworth. It has a strong
rhyming scheme and rhymes with every second line (1 and 3, 2 and 4) apart from the last two
lines of each stanza, which rhyme together. The poem appears to be about a man who had found
himself in a bad mood. The man uses old, happy memories to cheer him up whilst he is in these
moods.
The first stanza starts off with a lonely man, wandering around without much direction or emotion,
quite quickly this progresses to hope and fondness, almost like a memory has been replayed in the
mind of the man, lifting his spirits. This gives a potential background story to the man without
directly mentioning anything, therefore adding meaning. The line that seems to capture this sudden
change of heart are, when all at once I saw a crowd . Throughout this first stanza the writer
simultaneously uses both imagery and personification. The effect that this has on the reader is that
they can visualise easier when they are able to compare inanimate objects to emotions and actions
they have done themselves. This creates a connection with the reader to the poem.
The second stanza moves straight into the next topic, which is the stars and the sky that holds them.
However the transition is not awkward thanks to the use of the word continuous which implies that
he is only adding to the picture and not making anew. The words chosen express

Comparing The ICTY And The International Criminal Tribunal...
At the end of the Cold War, a more widespread interest in post conflict reconstruction was becoming
more prevalent. The main components of this interest during the post reconciliation period were
accountability and reconciliation. To facilitate this in two different post conflict environments, two
respective tribunals were established. These tribunals were known as the ICTY (The International
Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, est.1993) and ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal
for Rwanda, est.1994) . The ICTY was formed to address the conflict in former Yugoslavia. The
situation started when two of the six republics of Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Croatia, declared their
independence after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This sparked a lengthy and lethal conflict within the
territory. The atrocities that allegedly had been committed included but were not limited to, genocide
, rape, and enslavement. Many of the victims were civilians. Because of this the ICTY was created
during the war as an international criminal courtthat applied humanitarian law. It s purpose was to
gather information, create an account of events, and prosecute those responsible for committing
crimes .
The ICTY is considered the first international court. Since it was the first of it s kind, the court was
not without controversy. From the beginning, the method of establishing the tribunal was up for
debate. The ICTY did not have the legal authority to establish itself. Some states wanted a treaty to

Rapunzel Alternate Ending
Yes I know mother. She said with a slight roll of the eyes and turned her head. Even if she wasn t

was best for her.
Hearing Gothel s question a laugh escaped her mouth, I d probably go mad. She stated with a
slight no of the head. The window was the only thing connecting her with the outside world, the
only thing keeping her of sound mind. Though if Rapunzel had grown up without the window she
most likely wouldn t know any different. Maybe she would even be asking about the outside
world, maybe she would have been frightened of it. The young blonde could never see herself
frightened by it, a small smile crossed her face as she stared at her mother.
Rapunzel noticed the shocked look that spread across Gothel s face when she mentioned wanting to
paint her. Her brow rose a little, her head tilted to the side. It was like her mother was hearing
something she d have never heard before. Though Rapunzel couldn t really blame here. If she
didn t know many people who could paint than that could be why she was so utterly shocked by
Rapunzel. Hearing Gothel s reply Rapunzel nodded her head in agreement with her. Gothel did
always seem to find away to make herself look stunning and beautiful all the time. Rapunzel often
wondered how she could do it. She never would believe that her bone marrow was the key to her
mother s youthfulness. That didn t stop her

Antigone does not. She does not change, but stays ignorant, even in her death. The only way to

Term Limits For The Senate Essay
One of the most debated topics in American politics is whether term limits should be implemented
for Federal Congressmen and Senators. Currently, members of the House of Representatives serve
two year terms and those in the Senate serve six year terms, but there are an unlimited number of
terms a person can run for in these legislatures (Barbour 217). It s important to analyze the
arguments for and against term limits for Federal Congressmen and Senators in order to grasp a
better understanding of this subject. One argument supporting the implementation of term limits
for Federal Congressmen and Senators is that it allows for new blood in the Federal government.
Since term limits limt how many terms a Federal Congressmen and Senators can serve, term limits
would then cut out career politicians that prioritize their time on reelection then the problems of the
constituents. Term limits allows for a constant flow to introduce new individuals to the Federal
government. If there were individuals that enjoyed a specific Federal... Show more content on

The Human Perception And Distinction Between Gender And...
Evolutions in scientific thought have often contributed to overhauls of the human perception and
distinction between gender and culture. Consequently, scientific revolutions have also triggered
sociopolitical movements, which have had negative and positive connotations on culture and
society. This overhaul in scientific thought began in the 19th century with naturalist Charles Darwin
and his theory of Darwinism. Darwinism states that animal species continually evolve through the
complex processes of natural selection and those most fit learn to adapt and survive to their
particular environment (darwin online.org, 2008). Shortly after Darwin made his revolutionary
claims, one of the most prolific and controversial scientific revolutions... Show more content on

In short, this theory has a history of elevating certain groups while oppressing others and this paper
aims to expose the impact of the Eugenics movement in and its lasting effects on gender and culture
in America, specifically on women and African Americans and individuals with disabilities.
In the minds of eugenicists of the late 19th and 20th centuries, the ideal and most fit race of people
was Anglo Saxon. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the white Anglo Saxon race
negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It placed extreme pressure on them to
procreate and preserve the genetic integrity of the superior race. Women were held in high regard
for their ability and fitness to bear and rear children, but little else. Women were adversely burdened
with the stigma of possessing a diminished and often emotion driven mental capacity in comparison
to male counterparts.
Dr. Roswell H. Johnson student of influential American eugenicist Charles Davenport, expert, and
professor of eugenics and prominent mind in the American Eugenics Movement picked up where
Darwin and Galton left off. He was co developer of the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis (T

Truman questioned the life he lived in and fought to escape it. The film comments on how
settling into a life where you don t get to achieve goals or dreams, can leave a person empty and
therefore living a life that has no meaning. We accept the reality of the world with which we are
presented, it s as simple as that, Christof says in an interview when asked why he thinks Truman
has not figured out that he s living in a fake world. The accepting of reality that presented, is also
parallel to enforcing a status quo. The film depicts it in a depressing and ignorant light, showing
the hardships Truman has had to go through when trying to break away from the status quo then
settling with his reality. As I said before, Truman s life is supposed to be the epitome of the
American Dream. Living in suburbia with a job, wife, car and relative safety and predictability. The
Truman Show (1998) shows that this dream is nothing more than a pretty cage, and a hollow life.
Truman s escape from the dome was an act of rebellion against the creator of the perfect world,

forces his creator to beg him to stay. Truman chooses to break fee and enter into the world of the
unknown despite the risks. He leaves Seahaven, a nice place to live, and ventures to a new place
that could be potentially dangerous. He ends the show and the world he used to live

twentieth century. Regarded as quot;the most international of writers in EnglishВЎK[with] a
global reputation (Attridge, pix), Joyces stature in literature stems from his experimentation with
English prose. Influenced by European writers and an encyclopedic knowledge of European
literatures, Joyce s distinctive writing style includes epiphanies, the stream of consciousness
technique and conciseness.

Hauptmann s comprehensive version of the portrait of an artist helped Joyce develop his own
interpretation. A further clarification was provided by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche
(1844 1900). Joyce adapted Nietzsche s concept of the Superman in developing his portrait of an
artist. Although Joyce rejected the Catholic Church all his life, Reynords, in Joyce and Dante: The
Shaping Imagination clams that the Italian poet and the greatest of Catholic poets Dante Alighier
(1265 1321) quot;whose influence pervades all Joyce s writing is never cowed by authority quot;
(Attridge p. 56 57). Perhaps that is why Joyce was attracted to Dante s writing.
amp;#9;Of all his literary countryman, the only Irish literary who s left a profound impression on
Joyce was that Irish nationalist poet, James Clarence Mangan (1803 1849). In the short story
quot;Araby, quot; Joyce pays tribute to the poet by naming the narrator s classmate, Mangan. Joyce
identified with Mangen because of his linguistic skill and knowledge of the literature of Italy,
Spain, France and Germany. Furthermore, Mangan was disdained by his Irish contemporaries a
gesture Joyce considered an act of treachery.
amp;#9;Joyce s use of the stream of consciousness technique first appeared record these epiphanies
with extreme care, quot;seeing that they themselves are the moments. quot; (Kalasty, p.199)

A Critical Analysis of My Kiowa Grandmother, and
Take My Saddle from the Wall: A Valediction
A Critical Analysis of My Kiowa Grandmother, and
Take My Saddle from the Wall: A Valediction
The essays, My Kiowa Grandmother, by N. Scott Momaday and Take My Saddle from the Wall: A
Valediction, by Larry McMurtry, both seek to understand the values and traditions of an old way of
life that has been lost to the trials and tribulations of time. By reaching back into history through
their families, both authors achieve the same effect, while using starkly contrasting narrative
structure; they show the characteristics that have been lost to younger generations.

McMurtry creates a story about his family, based on their accounts left to him in memoirs and
letters throughout the years. McMurtry s ultimate purpose is to narrate an expressive literary
essay that uses humor and drama to attract the attention of the reader. While discussing cowboys
and their straightforward wisdom, he concludes that cowboys observations turn into aphorisms.
One such aphorism he finds particularly appealing is as follows: A woman s love is like the
morning dew, it s just as likely to fall on a horseturd as on a rose (149). McMurtry also includes a
great deal of drama and suspense as well. At one point, he recalls his grandfather s troublesome
drinking; one day his grandmother issued an ultimatum, sober up or she would leave him. The
threat was undoubtedly made in earnest, and he took it so immediately to heart that he stopped
drinking then and there, with a jug half full of whiskey hanging in the saddle room of the barn (143).
Additionally, a substantial difference between the two essays is the author s view of their
ancestors. McMurtry admits that he never considered genealogy much of an aid to recognition,
and thus never pursued [his] lineage any distance at all (143). On the other hand, Momaday is
very curious of his lineage. So curious in fact that he actually sets out on a fifteen hundred [mile]...
pilgrimage (289) to see where his ancestors began their journey onto the plains. Momaday
describes his ancestors as people of the

Social Darwinism In The Challenge Of Facts By Maudsley
Advocated for by English philospher, sociologist, and prominent classical liberal political theorist,
Herbert Spencer, Social Darwinism is essentially the theory that individuals and groups of people
are subject to the same Darwinian laws of natural selection as plants and animals, that their struggle
for existence is ultimately a competition that results in a survival of the fittest scenario. American
sociologist, economist, William Sumner along with renowned British psychiatrist, Dr. Henry
Maudsley, were both prolific proponents of Social Darwinismand argued that their evidence in
support of Social Darwinism were scientific and that Social Darwinism as a theory itself, was
science. In his essay The Challenge of Facts, Sumner argues that... Show more content on

In this article he argues that providing higher education to adolescent girls would not only
produce permanent injury to their reproductive organs, but to their brains as well. He insists that a
great amount of stress and change affects the psychological functions of girls going through
puberty and that because of their delicate constitution during this time, they would be subjected to
exhaustive mental strain by pursuing the same courses of study and being subjected to the same
examinations as their more verile and strong minded male counterparts, for there is sex in mind
as distinctly and there is sex in body...and regard must be had to the mental qualities which
correlate difference of sex. (79) Maudsley claims that even when these functions are in good
working order and the woman as arrived at maturity, the facts of her organization interfere
periodically to such an extent with steady and serious labour of mind or body that she can never
hope to compete successfully with men. Instead, Maudsley suggests that women stick with what
they and their mental capacities were built for, i.e. to be companions and helpmates to men, and
conceivers, mothers, and nurses to children, arguing that men are not so fitted mentally as women
to be the educators and caregivers of children during the early years of infancy and childhood. (81)
However, because women are provided with certain qualities specifically catered to fostering the
growth of children, it only makes sense for her to focus what little energy she has to doing just that
and leave the more psychologically intense work to the men. Further, Maudsley continues to paint a
dire picture of the inevitable results of women s over expenditure of her vital energy. While the
stimuli of competition in men is healthy and brings out the best in them, for women it would cause
the calamitous denigration

John C. Calhoun s Support Of Slavery In The United States
John C. Calhoun was an American politician who served as Secretary of War, Secretary of State,
United States Senator from South Carolina, and Vice President of the United States ( John C.
Calhoun ). During one of the most divided times in American history, John C. Calhoun was best
known for his support of slavery, and state sovereignty.
Throughout the 1800s, the United States was divided between those who wished to stop the
spread of slavery mainly in the Northern states, and those who demanded to preserve slavery
namely the Southern states. One may ponder how a member of society could be a proponent of
slavery; however, Calhoun was raised in the South where a person s value was often measured by
the amount of property they owned. It was

DLK DBQ
DLK DBQ The Fourth Amendment is one of the most important in America. In that of a case of a
man under the nickname DLK, this amendment comes into question. Police searched his home with
a thermal imager for traces of marijuana plants. Since marijuana plants need a high amount of heat,
it would be easily detected with this thermal imager. Could this search be deemed constitutional?
The DLK case was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The government invaded DLK s
privacy and ignored his Fourth Amendment rights. Proper evidence should be needed to search or
investigate someone s personal property, not just a suspicion , as the case had before the search.

The thermal imager detected heat radiating from the exterior of petitioner s house, and it did not
invade that home or reveal detailed activities (or, indeed, any activities) within the home itself
(Document E). Is a thermal imager really a search ? The government did not enter DLK s home
but did invade his privacy by detecting information that is not necessarily public. The court made
the right decision in deeming the case constitutional. [In this case,] the government uses a device
that is not in general public use, to explore details of the home that would previously have been
unknowable without [going in], the surveillance is a search and is. . . unreasonable without a

device that would search the home in a way that the naked eye could not see, the case in
unconstitutional. Under the circumstances of the DLK case, the Supreme Court made the right and
just decision of making the invasive action of the police unconstitutional. The police had no prior

HIV Alliance Report
This summer I had the opportunity to complete my practicum in Eugene, Oregon at HIV Alliance.
The HIV Alliance is a passionate 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 1994, with a mission
of both supporting and empowering people living with HIV and preventing new HIV infections.
Initially the organization focused solely on Lane County, Oregon. However, over the years, the
structure and funding around HIVchanged. This change resulted in the expansion of services to
include eleven counties in Oregon: Lane, Douglas, Josephine, Lake, Klamath, Jackson, Coos, Curry,
Lincoln, Clatsop and Marion. HIV Alliance serves the community through a diverse spectrum of
initiatives. The overall purpose of working with this organization was to establish... Show more

Surprisingly, there are two locations one in Eugene and the other located in Roseburg. Having two
separate locations allows for the organization to reach a rather large segment of the population in
need of services. HIV Alliance operates with a staff of about 50 full and part time employees. Staff
is branched into numerous categories including business planning, volunteer and education,
prevention, client services, development, finance and administration, and executive leadership.
Moreover, numerous volunteers play a pivotal role to the organization, many of which are students
at the University of Oregon. Overseeing operations at the Alliance is Executive Director, Renee

Taking a Look at Veganism
For this assignment, I volunteered at the Earthstock celebration on April 25th. Earthstock is a week
long, campus wide event that is used to educate students, alumni, and the general public about
sustainable practices that help the environment. During the final Earthstock celebration, exhibitors
from many different organizations, such as EmPower Solar and Vegan Outreach, set up tables
displaying information regarding healthy lifestyle practices, alternative diets, and sustainable forms
of energy. For this event, I was unfortunately assigned the task of helping other student volunteers
and exhibitors check in and set up their tables. However, after volunteering, I was able to observe
and learn about many of the organizations that had attended the event.
One of the most notable parts of Earthstock for me was the reciting of the Green Pledge. Just by
reciting the pledge, I realized that there were many other ways to promote environmental
sustainability other than just recycling. For example, by registering to vote you are helping the
environment because it gives you a say in environmental policy decisions. I learned about groups
such as Pride Patrol, and I learned about the impacts that certain events, such as Recyclemania, have
on our campus and the environment as a whole. Another notable moment for me was learning about
the benefits of a vegan diet from the Vegan Outreach organization. I learned more about the horrors
that occur in slaughterhouses and poultry farms, and I

Twitter Target Audience
The top category on Pinterest is food, so if you can somehow tie food into your niche, you may
have an opportunity here to reach new readers. An example might be if you have a product that
can tie into cooking in some way. Facebook Facebook is the largest of the social media networks
at this time. There are an estimated 1.65 billion Facebook users who are active in any given
month. The number increases by an average of 15% per year. With numbers like that, your target
audience is likely to be on this social media giant, so this isn t one you want to overlook when it
comes to online marketing. Trying to reach adults in the mid age range? The most common age
group on Facebook is 25 to 34 years old, according to a 2012 Emarketer report. If you re trying to
reach users outside of the United States, Facebook can be a valuable resource since 84.2% of daily

Does Reflexology Help You Drop Off At Night
If you have issues dropping off at night, you could be ready to try anything. Most likely though,
you would prefer to use an alternative cure, instead of trying over the counter or prescription
sleeping aids. By utilizing an alternative method to going to sleep, you won t have to worry
about any complications, or getting dependent on a sleeping pill. They might not be considered
mainstream ideas, but if they work for you, then it s worth it! These are some great homeopathic
things you can try to help you drop off to sleep at night. Try using reflexology. When it comes to
reflexology, each part of your body is reflected on your hands and your feet. By massaging these
places, or having someone else do it for you, it can often help you prepare for sleep, and help you
get beat. It will also de stress, so that s another good reason to try it. Due to both these, it will help

Lavender will help you relax, which may in turn help you go to sleep less complicated and
faster. There are plenty of different ways that you can use lavender. You can buy a lotion and
massage it into your skin before heading off to bed. Another way is to buy lavender oil, and
either put some in a bath or on your pillow. You may also try lavender tea, which should also
promote relaxation and go to sleep earlier. Make sure you get sufficient magnesium in your diet.
Magnesium is a natural sedative, and will help you to get exhausted and wish to fall asleep. If you
don t eat enough foods during the day with magnesium in them, you will not be knackered at night.
You can try eating foods such as almonds, cashews, whole grains, legumes, or dark leafy plants to
get more magnesium into your diet. Try meditation. When you meditate, you receive multiple
benefits. One is that you become more relaxed. Another is that people who meditate have more
melatonin in their bodies. Melatonin helps promote a calm, relaxing, deep sleep, so meditation
could help you in one or two different

  • 2. Essay about Tools of the Craft Tools of the Craft So you have decided you want to write. Perhaps you may feel you need to write. Sometimes this urge inside you is so sweet and urgent that you find yourself imagining the smooth feel of the keyboard beneath your fingertips. You can hear the tap tap of the keys as your fingers fly over them, forming words, sentences, paragraphsand pages of images that will flow from your mind to another s in a bizarre and wondrous kind of telepathy. This desire may come to you as you are studying, attending classes, or working, making you yearn for the time when the tedious details of life might be abated, if only for a moment, so that you can finally work on your story. When at last you are able to grasp your favored writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is highly recommended that this book be read first whether the writer is confident about their ability to follow the rules of grammar or not. After you have read enough of Strunk White to feel somewhat confident (or even frustrated) by the rules that you already knew or forgot, examine Style by Joseph M. Williams. Mr. Williams is a professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Chicago. You may have already encountered another book published by the University on the subject. Fear not; Williams book is not an immense conundrum of rules in the same vein as The Chicago Manual of Style. I prefer to think of it as a response to Strunk White; Williams will address many of the same rules of writing from a refreshingly unique viewpoint. Some readers may find his work incredibly dull and prefer The Elements of Style for its short and simple guidelines. Or you may find yourself enjoying a newfound sense of freedom from the rather liberal suggestion of Williams that some rules are, in fact, meant to be broken. If you are of an analytical or logical frame of mind you may enjoy the many diagrams and trees he created as examples of his statements. If you do not fit into this group, do not let these examples get in the way of the underlying message. Writing, Williams appears to suggest, is not about rules and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It may seem fun and exciting, but there is a tremendous number of mistakes that can happen. For instance, imagine someone has just been accepted into college, and it is her first day. She thought it was a dream to be in a sorority, but in reality it was a nightmare. After a week, she knows Hell Week is coming, but she wants shake everything off, and think everything is going well and the other members will accept her with no hesitation. Today is a lazy day, and she is just sitting in her dorm watching television, and out of nowhere, she was blindfolded and thrown into a car. Have you ever wondered why they do not have hazing laws? No one truly knows why they do not have the laws. As some people think, hazing is a great thing, and it puts people through a great experience to go through. Since hazing can endanger the physical safety of a person, and produces mental, physical discomfort, and causes dismay, humiliation, and dehumanizes an individual, society needs to learn about hazing and stop it from happening. We know that people consider it a tradition that has been going on for ages, but it s an appalling experience to go through. Everywhere around the world hazing is happening and not one person can do a thing about it. The earliest recorded event of hazing occurred in eighteen thirty eight. The first recorded death happened in eighteen forty eight. (Hank). So you can see why some may consider it a tradition. Many hazing incidents do not just involve members of a certain group, but sometimes it can also include the coach or who is in charge of the group. Twenty two percent of coaches or advisors are involved in hazing towards the athlete or student. Many of the coaches and advisors even help perform the hazing incidents! (Coaches). Job satisfaction, motivation, and reward systems are included in one area of organizational theory. A review of the classical literature on motivationreveals four major theory areas: 1.Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs; 2.Herzberg s Motivation/Hygiene (two factor) Theory; 3.McGregor s X Y Theories; and 4.McClelland s Need for Assessment Theory. Maslow states that people are motivated by unmet needs which are in a hierarchical order that prevents people from being motivated by a need area unless all lower level needs have been met. • 5. Analysis Of The Slow Paced spring Summer Winter Spring... Few words are spoken in Kim Ki duk s Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. Yet much is expressed regarding humankind s relationship with nature. The slow paced, contemplative movie explores key Buddhist principles, including rebirth and meditation, through the life of an apprentice monk. Laden with heavy symbolism, as seen in the use of the seasons, animals, architecture, medicine and punishment, the film deeply considers people s connection to their environment, stressing in particular the importance of both inner and outer harmony. Seasons The seasons are likely the most notable motif of the film, which progresses through them as they match the stages of the Apprentice s life. As the once young man presumably returns towards the end to replace his old master, the wheel of life turns again. The beautiful cinematography, featuring long shots of the surrounding landscape, captures the breathtaking beauty of the area as the seasons change. By enriching the movie with these scenes, rather than focusing on just the plot, Kim invites the viewer to appreciate the setting s beauty, allowing time for reflection on both the story and the cyclical tendencies of nature and life. Following the seasons through the Apprentice s life reflects a cycle of rebirth that is an integral part of Buddhist teachings. Animals More subtly, animals also play a significant role in each stage of the Apprentice s life. Like the seasons, one creature matches up with the Apprentice during each phase ... Conscription During WWI Time Ameliorates Lingual Wounds Differences of belief between different ethnic, cultural, and racial groups are undoubtedly the biggest contributor to disputes within the history of the world. WWI started due to a disagreement between Austria and Hungary, and WWII started because Hitler s beliefs differed from those of the Jewish. Despite being one of the most accepting countries in the world, Canada is no exception. Since confederation, there have always been constant disputes between different groups of Canadians, mainly the French and English community residing in Canada. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the 1960s, the Quiet Revolution occurred in Canada, a struggle in regards to French Canadians becoming integrated into Canadian society. It was also during this time that many notable separatist movements emerged from the depths of Quebec, including the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois and the Bloc QuГ©bГ©cois. The Bloc QuГ©bГ©cois began as a leftist movement but quickly grew into a party by 1963; similarly, the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois was formed in 1968. They mainly gained support because French Canadians believed their rights were being compromised by English Canadians. Krueger states in Encyclopedia Britannica, French Canadian nationalists favoured some form of enhanced status for Quebec: special status within confederation, a new form of association on the basis of equality with English Canada, or complete independence as a sovereign country. On November 15, 1976, the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois finally came into power in Quebec. Despite coming very close to separating over the years with a vote turnout of 49.4 to 50.6 in 1991, the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois never managed to truly fulfill its purpose of separating from Canada. • 7. Slavery in the Movie The Help Essay The term The Help according to dictionary.com means the action of helping someone to do something. Which refers to the duty of a person that helps keep a household clean and organized. Back when racism was still openly accepted by society, black women were the only candidates available for this type of job, because it was very difficult for them to find jobs. The job of being The Help in the house for rich white folks includes taking care of the kids, the house, and worry about preparing 3 meals a day for the white family they work for. While all this was going on, she found a way to fight back by helping a young girl write a book that exposes how The Helps were being treated in the households they take care of. Nowadays, society don t use the term The Help to describe a person that is hired to take care of a household of a person that was hired to give an helping hand. Instead they call them a Nanny. The job of a Nanny is still the same as that of The Help from back in the days, but the only difference is that they get more respect from whoever hires them and they get a better pay and living condition. Plus it is not only black women that are involved in these types of work anymore. Nowadays it varies in terms of races. In an interview that my partner and me had with a Nanny named Rita Asento where we found out that things are very different now compare to the olden days. • 8. How far do you agree with the opinion that courtship and... How far do you agree with the opinion that courtship and marriage are undermined and ridiculed in The Taming of the Shrew ? Shakespeare s drama The Taming of the Shrew is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and courtship was very different than how it is in the present. Back then it was the parents who picked suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. Romeo and Juliet is an example of this. In our Taming of the Shrew this is no different as Baptista Minola chooses the suitors in which marry his daughters. We first see this undermining of courtshipand marriage when Petruchio speaks of his view on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of falling in love from Katherina as he forces her to marry him and her father happily abides, will you, nill you, I will marry you . This again makes a charade of marriage. I agree when CoppГ©lia Kahn says The overt force Petruchio wields over Kate by marrying her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and comfort, stamping, shouting, reducing her to exhaustion, etc., is but a farcical representation of the psychological realities of marriage... as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect example of Shakespeare s attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage. As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which carries out our desire to simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the whole person; man retains all his energy yet never really gets hurt and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of marriage. Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio s plans to disguise himself as a schoolmaster well seen in music to instruct Bianca . Lucentio also disguises himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may woo Bianca secretly. This shows courtship to be a mockery as when you court someone, you are opening up and showing the person who you are and that you ve nothing to hide. Hortensio is doing the complete opposite as ... Since Shakespeare did not write the story of Romeo and Juliet, the story could be much older. Since the story could be much older the tomb could be much older. More importantly, he stayed loyal to his wife (more or less), even after being apart for 20 years. He missed his son s life, and yet neither of them were ever far from his mind. • 15. Superheroes In The Incredibles The Incredibles is a 2004 animated film produced by Pixar Studios. It takes place in a superhero filled world in the 1960 s. The film follows former superheroes, Bob and Helen Parr, as well as their super powered children. The film breaks from the convention of the genre through its focus on the consequence of hero work, the subversion of the typical protagonist and its lack of source material. Often in superhero films, heroes are able to tear up whole cities in the pursuit of stopping a villain with next to no repercussions resulting from the property damage they caused; this type of careless display of destruction was shown in such films as The Avengers (2012), and was most notably criticized in 2013 s Man of Steel. The Incredibles, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the events of the opening sequence, it cuts to 15 years later, as they are no longer allowed to use their superpowers, Bob is working at a mundane office job and Helen (formerly Elastigirl) is at home taking care of their children. Heroes are often shown as younger and physically fit, not middle aged and married; even in films where they follow a more mature hero, such as Tony Stark in Iron Man (2008), and subsequent films; he is still a childless bachelor. Centering the film on characters in this phase of life brings an interesting perspective on what it would be like to juggle a family and superhero work. Moreover, unlike other superhero teams, which may position the team as coming together to form familial like relationship through their shared super powered abilities, as in X Men (2000), or through an organization like Avengers (2012), The Incredibles has the superhero team as an actual family. The film displays a realistic, slightly dysfunctional family dynamic, making the characters feel real instead portraying them like gods or icons to look up to, as superheroes often ... The Importance Of The Insanity Plea Humans, being the complex creatures that they are, are fully capable of making cognizant, rational choices, choices which can affect other persons, either in a positive or negative fashion. However, in some cases, humans are unable to control their own thoughts. Those unable to control their minds are often referred to as mentally ill, and with that label comes unruly consequences. Because of their mental status, persons suffering from mental health issues do not have the same ability to cope with reality or make intentional decisions that have a negative impact. • 17. The Social Cognition Approach And The Discursive Approach Attitudes are one of the main themes in social psychology. The attitudes we hold allow us to express ourselves through our values and ideologies as well as comprehend people around us. We can make predictions about others values from what they say and how they behave, this in turn reduces uncertainty and enables us to adapt and alter our behaviours in a socially desirable way (McKinlay and McVittie, 2009). Research surrounding the concept of attitudes comes from two distinct theoretical positions; the social cognition approach and the discursive approach. The mainstream cognitive approach regards attitudes as measurable entities through schemas and models, while the discursive psychology(DP) deals with written and spoken means of communication and has attempted to reorientate our perspective on attitude research. First, this essay will attempt to define attitudes from both spheres of thought and outline the guiding principles of each approach. Moreover, both approaches alongside their differing methodologies will be evaluated with reference to empirical research. Psychologists in both the cognitive and discursive field believe that attitudes are central to our understanding of human behaviour yet they differ in their definition of the concept. The cognitive approach builds upon a very operational understanding of attitudes, defining them as an inner cognitive states whereby a person may generate favourable or unfavourable thoughts and/or feelings towards a person, idea ... • 19. Special Educational Needs Support For Children With... According to the government (GOV.UK, 2016), special educational needs support is available at all educational levels. This was in light of international developments, modifications to national legislation and decisions by law makers. The key international influencer was presented by the Salamanca Statement and Framework for Action (UNESCO, 1994). Also, two cases in particular the O Donoghue (1993) and Sinnott (2000) cases contributed significantly to changes in educational provision for children with special needs (Griffin and Shevlin, 20111). The first case the O Donoghue (1993) concerned eight year old boy with special needs. The courts supported the claimant to ensure that children were permitted to primary educationand the government was compiled to make adequate changes to the curriculum and teaching to make certain that they could make the best use of their capacities (Carey, 2005). The second case concerned Jamie Sinnott who had s severe form of autism and mental and physical dysfunction. The case concluded that the state was required to provide lifelong education for people with severe/profound general disabilities. It is now evident that inclusion in education is an important factor. This reduces exclusion from culture, curricula and communities of local schools. Not only is inclusion an educational or professional matter but an issue of fundamental human rights concerning everybody (Wertheimer, 1997).Both the Salamanca statement (1994) and the UN standard rules ... The deterioration in Sino Soviet relations between 1958 1969 is due to a number of different factorssome historians argue that conflicting personal rivalries between Mao and Khrushchev contributed to the split until 1964, however other historians argue that other factors influenced the deterioration. For example both sides were ideologically different, this can be seen as they were both pursuing different methods of achieving communism, and during many occasions they disagreed with each other. However the most significant factor causing the split was their conflicting national interests, as although without the existing personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows a clear confliction in national interests, and a cause for a deterioration in Sino Soviet relations was the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Due to this, Mao introduced his policy of active defence towards the USSR and this was because of his paranoia that the USSR could try to assert dominance over China. This shows a clear confliction of national interests as the USSR was preventing China from expansion and this added to the initial ideological and personality disputes stated above. Therefore the deterioration in Sino Soviet relations was due to conflicting national interests more than personality and ideological clashes as from this, both sides clearly wanted different things, conflict between them was inevitable. Finally another argument that some historians put forward is the Ussuri River dispute in 1969 where both sides shared a common border. This was one of the most important reasons for the deterioration in relations because it was the first time both sides came into direct conflict with the other during this in which on the first day, over 30 Soviet soldiers died. This showed a direct cause for deterioration in relations, because two countries cannot be allies if they are constantly at fighting with one another. These border disputes had been ongoing for many years, showing that a fundamental cause for the deterioration in relations between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This process was done through small goals. The Indians didn t have many options. The only options that they were given were either to be killed or to assimilate into white civilization through Indian boarding schools. Richard Pratt, a former military man is a prime example of implementing Indian boarding schools. Indian children were taking from their home reservations to attend off reservation boarding schools. The goals of the boarding schoolwere to kill the Indian, save the man. Indians attending boarding schools were going through an assimilationprocess. The long term goalwas to leave with a white man s image or with white ways. This was achieved through Indians being forced to cut their hair, wearing military uniforms, learning English, new religion (ex: Christianity). Through this process, many children forgot what their birth given name was. It was not uncommon for children to return back to their reservation with no recollection of who they are Your name s not Billy. Your name s TAH rruhm, she told him (Bear, Charla). The white Anglo Saxons goal was to erase anything associated with Indian culture because in their minds they viewed Indians as savages. Essay on Symbolism in The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck Symbolism in The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck A symbol is an act, person, thing, or spectacle that stands for something else, by association a usually broader idea in addition to its own literal meaning (Cassill Bausch, 1728). John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums may seem as a story describing a simple day with the Allen couple. It begins with Elisa Allen working in her garden and her husband, Henry Allen, negotiating with two suited business men that want to purchase steers. They seem to engage in conversations and go about their day as they normally would do. By the time the story ends, they are on their way to dinner and a movie. This description of the Salina Valley is closely related to her character. Elisa s isolation and constraint is represented by the description of the valley. Elisa feels cut off from the rest of the world; she has no independence, and lives in a male dominated society. The valley being described as a, closed pot can also be considered a metaphor for Elisa s existence, she knows how the rest of her life is going to be, and she is not happy knowing that she is so limited in choices. Elisa lives in a masculine world with countless qualities hidden under her man s hat, clodhopper shoes, and a big corduroy apron she wears to garden. One of the reasons that Elisa may feel more restricted is because of the fact that she does not have any children to distract her, therefore spends the majority of the time contemplating about her life. This gives a slight indication that they might not be able to have children. During the period of time that this story was written, it was very unlikely for a married woman, especially at the age of thirty five, not to have children. The fact that Elisa is childless makes it even more evident that she seems to need more fulfillments in her life. The importance of Elisa s gardening abilities is that she wishes to take care of someone, and since she has no one other that Henry, which does not seem much of help for her, she transfers these maternal instincts onto her flowers. The essay will conclude that this article is useful in thinking about how myths (and language) need to be addressed in order to achieve the important goal of shifting power dynamics, both within the real world and the development sector itself, to bring about real change for women and girls globally. The power and importance of the generation of myths is at the heart of Gender myths and feminist fables . The article is inspired by the frustration within the development sector with these myths and highlights how ideas and representations of women, often initially based on feminist research, become translated through development language into myths. These myths are then appropriated into simplistic slogans a variety of catchphrases coined by different NGOs, institutions and government campaigns that reduce the plight of women to a few buzzwords. The researchers put some focus on the beneficial and unifying nature of myths within development. Cornwall et al harness the works of Albert Hirschmann and Georges Sorel to demonstrate that myths are an integral part of development because they have the power to move i.e. in a practical sense, myths are able to capture the heart of the public and ensure support is pledged to aid agencies. • 30. Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud Analysis of; I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud by William Wordsworth The poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud was written by William Wordsworth. It has a strong rhyming scheme and rhymes with every second line (1 and 3, 2 and 4) apart from the last two lines of each stanza, which rhyme together. The poem appears to be about a man who had found himself in a bad mood. The man uses old, happy memories to cheer him up whilst he is in these moods. The first stanza starts off with a lonely man, wandering around without much direction or emotion, quite quickly this progresses to hope and fondness, almost like a memory has been replayed in the mind of the man, lifting his spirits. This gives a potential background story to the man without directly mentioning anything, therefore adding meaning. The line that seems to capture this sudden change of heart are, when all at once I saw a crowd . Throughout this first stanza the writer simultaneously uses both imagery and personification. The effect that this has on the reader is that they can visualise easier when they are able to compare inanimate objects to emotions and actions they have done themselves. This creates a connection with the reader to the poem. The second stanza moves straight into the next topic, which is the stars and the sky that holds them. However the transition is not awkward thanks to the use of the word continuous which implies that he is only adding to the picture and not making anew. The words chosen express ... The main components of this interest during the post reconciliation period were accountability and reconciliation. To facilitate this in two different post conflict environments, two respective tribunals were established. These tribunals were known as the ICTY (The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, est.1993) and ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, est.1994) . The ICTY was formed to address the conflict in former Yugoslavia. The situation started when two of the six republics of Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Croatia, declared their independence after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This sparked a lengthy and lethal conflict within the territory. The atrocities that allegedly had been committed included but were not limited to, genocide , rape, and enslavement. Many of the victims were civilians. Because of this the ICTY was created during the war as an international criminal courtthat applied humanitarian law. It s purpose was to gather information, create an account of events, and prosecute those responsible for committing crimes . The ICTY is considered the first international court. Currently, members of the House of Representatives serve two year terms and those in the Senate serve six year terms, but there are an unlimited number of terms a person can run for in these legislatures (Barbour 217). It s important to analyze the arguments for and against term limits for Federal Congressmen and Senators in order to grasp a better understanding of this subject. One argument supporting the implementation of term limits for Federal Congressmen and Senators is that it allows for new blood in the Federal government. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the white Anglo Saxon race negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It placed extreme pressure on them to procreate and preserve the genetic integrity of the superior race. We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented, it s as simple as that, Christof says in an interview when asked why he thinks Truman has not figured out that he s living in a fake world. The accepting of reality that presented, is also parallel to enforcing a status quo. The film depicts it in a depressing and ignorant light, showing the hardships Truman has had to go through when trying to break away from the status quo then settling with his reality. As I said before, Truman s life is supposed to be the epitome of the American Dream. Living in suburbia with a job, wife, car and relative safety and predictability. The Truman Show (1998) shows that this dream is nothing more than a pretty cage, and a hollow life. Truman s escape from the dome was an act of rebellion against the creator of the perfect world, Christof, and everyone who tried to keep him there. He changes the status quo of his world and forces his creator to beg him to stay. Truman chooses to break fee and enter into the world of the unknown despite the risks. Hauptmann s comprehensive version of the portrait of an artist helped Joyce develop his own interpretation. A further clarification was provided by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche (1844 1900). Joyce adapted Nietzsche s concept of the Superman in developing his portrait of an artist. In the short story quot;Araby, quot; Joyce pays tribute to the poet by naming the narrator s classmate, Mangan. Joyce identified with Mangen because of his linguistic skill and knowledge of the literature of Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Scott Momaday and Take My Saddle from the Wall: A Valediction, by Larry McMurtry, both seek to understand the values and traditions of an old way of life that has been lost to the trials and tribulations of time. McMurtry creates a story about his family, based on their accounts left to him in memoirs and letters throughout the years. McMurtry s ultimate purpose is to narrate an expressive literary essay that uses humor and drama to attract the attention of the reader. While discussing cowboys and their straightforward wisdom, he concludes that cowboys observations turn into aphorisms. One such aphorism he finds particularly appealing is as follows: A woman s love is like the morning dew, it s just as likely to fall on a horseturd as on a rose (149). McMurtry also includes a great deal of drama and suspense as well. At one point, he recalls his grandfather s troublesome drinking; one day his grandmother issued an ultimatum, sober up or she would leave him. The threat was undoubtedly made in earnest, and he took it so immediately to heart that he stopped drinking then and there, with a jug half full of whiskey hanging in the saddle room of the barn (143). Additionally, a substantial difference between the two essays is the author s view of their ancestors. McMurtry admits that he never considered genealogy much of an aid to recognition, and thus never pursued [his] lineage any distance at all (143). On the other hand, Momaday is very curious of his lineage. • 43. Social Darwinism In The Challenge Of Facts By Maudsley Advocated for by English philospher, sociologist, and prominent classical liberal political theorist, Herbert Spencer, Social Darwinism is essentially the theory that individuals and groups of people are subject to the same Darwinian laws of natural selection as plants and animals, that their struggle for existence is ultimately a competition that results in a survival of the fittest scenario. American sociologist, economist, William Sumner along with renowned British psychiatrist, Dr. Henry Maudsley, were both prolific proponents of Social Darwinismand argued that their evidence in support of Social Darwinism were scientific and that Social Darwinism as a theory itself, was science. In this article he argues that providing higher education to adolescent girls would not only produce permanent injury to their reproductive organs, but to their brains as well. He insists that a great amount of stress and change affects the psychological functions of girls going through puberty and that because of their delicate constitution during this time, they would be subjected to exhaustive mental strain by pursuing the same courses of study and being subjected to the same examinations as their more verile and strong minded male counterparts, for there is sex in mind as distinctly and there is sex in body...and regard must be had to the mental qualities which correlate difference of sex. (79) Maudsley claims that even when these functions are in good working order and the woman as arrived at maturity, the facts of her organization interfere periodically to such an extent with steady and serious labour of mind or body that she can never hope to compete successfully with men. Instead, Maudsley suggests that women stick with what they and their mental capacities were built for, i.e. to be companions and helpmates to men, and conceivers, mothers, and nurses to children, arguing that men are not so fitted mentally as women to be the educators and caregivers of children during the early years of infancy and childhood. (81) However, because women are provided with certain qualities specifically catered to fostering the growth of children, it only makes sense for her to focus what little energy she has to doing just that and leave the more psychologically intense work to the men. Further, Maudsley continues to paint a dire picture of the inevitable results of women s over expenditure of her vital energy. While the stimuli of competition in men is healthy and brings out the best in them, for women it would cause the calamitous denigration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Taking a Look at Veganism For this assignment, I volunteered at the Earthstock celebration on April 25th. Earthstock is a week long, campus wide event that is used to educate students, alumni, and the general public about sustainable practices that help the environment. During the final Earthstock celebration, exhibitors from many different organizations, such as EmPower Solar and Vegan Outreach, set up tables displaying information regarding healthy lifestyle practices, alternative diets, and sustainable forms of energy. For this event, I was unfortunately assigned the task of helping other student volunteers and exhibitors check in and set up their tables. However, after volunteering, I was able to observe and learn about many of the organizations that had attended the event. One of the most notable parts of Earthstock for me was the reciting of the Green Pledge. Just by reciting the pledge, I realized that there were many other ways to promote environmental sustainability other than just recycling. For example, by registering to vote you are helping the environment because it gives you a say in environmental policy decisions. I learned about groups such as Pride Patrol, and I learned about the impacts that certain events, such as Recyclemania, have on our campus and the environment as a whole. Another notable moment for me was learning about the benefits of a vegan diet from the Vegan Outreach organization.
