Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Taken directly from God s Word, I was reminded by
my Professor this week of one of my favorite verses from the book of Isaiah. Interestingly enough,
before I began my venture into higher education, I was scared: scared of failure, scared of the
commitment it would require, and even scared of the possibility that I just might not be cut out for the
task ahead. This verse, Isaiah 41:10, along with several other Scriptures, helped to assure me that ...

Just as 1 Corinthians 13:11 reminds us, When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child,
I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things, even my style of learning
has changed. Until this semester, I would say that of course I had the characteristics to be a successful
online student; how hard could it be? But, ironically, during the same week that I first read Taormino s
article, I began to fall behind in my classes. As I write this paper, I m juggling extra duties at home
while my wife and I both recover from a nasty car accident. Fortunately neither of us were seriously
hurt, but because my wife already suffers from a chronic autoimmune disease, even her minor injuries
were enough to throw her into a painful exacerbation. What does this have to do with my online
education? Well, everything, to be honest. All of the time I normally had set aside for my coursework
must now be devoted to the daily management of our home (things that my wife usually takes care of).
It s astonishing how quickly time gets away from us! I ve learned through this series of unfortunate
events that I must take control of my time, rather than allowing it to take control of me. As Taormino
asserts, Students need to plan their time accordingly to have sufficient opportunity to complete
assignments and work iteratively based on feedback. Without time

Technology Affecting Mental Health Of College Students
Whether we like it or not, technology has become a part of our everyday lives. We rely on it for quick
information, social networking, job searching, school related assignments, and entertainment for when
we are bored. But is being constantly connected to the technological world affecting student s mental
health? It is rare to find a college student that does not have a cell phone, laptop computer, email and
Facebook account. A poll taken by The Jed Foundation found that 90% of college students used a
social networking site within the last week. These tools are great for getting school work finished,
communicating with friends, staying connected with family while away at school, and for getting in
touch with professors. It is important

The Operations Management Procedures That Will Take Place...
Operation Management
Elibah Bey
Kaplan University
In this paper, I will discuss the operations management procedure that will take place in my service
oriented salon based business. I will also describe the inputs, operations processes, and outputs that
pertain to Eli s Beauty Services . In addition, I will describe how customer needs will be addressed in
my business and the beauty shop s core competencies. Moreover, I will identify competitors, compare
my service offerings to theirs, and elaborate upon the quality unique distinction of my business from
rivals.
The Service Oriented Business
My business will provide beauty and relaxation services to customers. The services provided in my
business will be in the form of hairstyles, massages, manicures, and pedicures. Providing these
services require close and personal interaction of employees with customers (Longenecker Petty, et
al., 2013, p. 566). These services will be provided based upon the requests and desires of demanding
customers. In order for my business to be successful, all employees and myself must have close
connections with customers in order for clients to continue to return to my business for more
continuous services. Having a close relationship with customers will allow employees to understand
and more accurately serve their needs and demands (Longenecker Petty, et al., 2013, p. 566). Effective
operations management necessitates making hiring decisions by selecting employees with

Plato s Meno As A Socratic Discussion On Human Sexuality...
Plato s Meno is a Socratic discussion on the definition of human virtues where the main participants
are Socrates and Meno. Other speakers in the dialogue include an Athenian politician, one of Meno s
slaves, and Socrates prosecutor Anytus, who is a friend to Meno. Meno wants to understand the broad
definition of human virtues and while visiting Athens he initiates the dialogue on virtues with
Socrates. The discussion begins with Meno inquiring from Socrates whether virtues can be learned.
Meno argues that, according to the Georgian s, the attribute is defined differently by different people,
and there is no common way to define it so as to apply it to all human beings. In response, Socrates
argues that the Georgians do not understand the real meaning of virtue and in his opinion that some
attributes are common to all human beings. Socrates also rejects the idea that virtues depend on human
sexuality and age and insist that there are common attributes in humans. The conversation between the
two becomes an argument on about the perfect definition of human characteristics. In essence, this
paper discusses the critics in Plato s Meno that led to a senseless conclusion on virtues as it was
significantly contributed by Socrates. As well, the paper will support the argument that the agreement
between Socrates and Memo was based on distinct ideas.
A misunderstanding starts when extracting virtues from the human characters. Meno, defines quite a
number of human virtues, but

Beck s Theory Of Psychodynamic Research
History and Uses
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) grew out of dissatisfaction of certain therapists with traditional
psychoanalysis. Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis were both instrumental in the development of this
approach to psychotherapy (Van Bilsen, p. 7), though Beck, a psychoanalyst, is primarily credited with
its development. Beck did research on depression, in the 1950 s, which was intended to give evidence
in support of the theory that retroflected hostility was at the root of depression, but the research failed
to confirm his hypothesis. As a result, he expanded his research on depression and came to the
realization that depressed subjects held predictably negative thoughts about themselves, the future and
the world around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beck, p. 3) Later in the book, he quotes the Stoic emperor, Marcus Aurelius as saying, If thou are
pained by any external thing, it is not the thing that disturbs thee, but thine own judgement about it.
And it is in thy power to wipe out this judgement now (Marcus Aurelius, quoted in A.T. Beck, p. 263)
In general, the Stoic philosophers believed that we should recognize the difference between things we
have power over and things that we have no power over. They taught that people are best served when
they put their energy into dealing with the things that lie within their control. This idea is succinctly
illustrated in the Serenity Prayer, used in numerous support groups. (Robertson, p. 20) One could say
that Beck s chief accomplishment was to take truths that had been known for centuries and apply them
in a way that was therapeutic. Although Ellis, Beck (and a few others) get a great deal of credit for the
creation of CBT, they freely admit to being influenced, not only by the ancient philosophers, but also
by earlier practitioners of the burgeoning art of psychotherapy. For example, referring to Paul Dubois
work around the turn of the century, Ellenberger said Dubois told of his method of treating phobias.
Emotions, he said, always follow ideas, so the treatment should go to the root, namely, the erroneous
idea the patient has allowed to creep into his mind (Ellenberger,

For my UTEP event I went to the fossil and rock exhibit. Although I was limited to only a few
exhibits, those exhibits were very interesting. Some of the exhibits that I saw were the rock, fossil and
history exhibits. The one I found most interesting was the rock exhibit. This exhibit was made up of
rocks found in this general area (El Paso New Mexico and Mexico). It had a wide range of rocks from
crystals to quarts to obsidian rocks. The one I found most beautiful was the Calcite crystal. This
crystal was from Durango Mexico and it almost looks like a white rose. This experience for me was
very educational. I learned many things like, how the pressure on a rock can affect the way it looks

Engstrom Mirror Plant
Milestone 2 Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant: Root Cause Case Study Analysis Sharon McClain SNHU
The Engstrom Auto Mirror plant is located in Richmond, Indiana and employs around 200 or more
people. The plant has been going through some changes over the last few years and has seen a decline
in employee motivation. The focus today will be to determine some of the root causes of the problems
facing the plant from an organizational view and a human behavior issue. The bottom line is
determining how to solve the issues the company is facing and move forward. Some of the questions
that will need to be answered is, why is motivation at an all time low, is the Scanlon plan benefiting

Many employees felt they were doing all of the work and should get the bonuses, not management.
This plan led to the employees feeling as though they were not treated fairly because of the many rate
changes. The employees did not have input into the plan and felt management was playing games with
the formula. Most of us like to be valued as an employee and a person. This plan did not allow the
employees to feel this way. As the morale dropped, so did production and from there, the bonuses
dwindled. Instead of looking at themselves for the lack of bonuses, they blamed management. Their
lack of understanding on the rate changes did not help the process. According to Maslow s Hierarchy,
the employees needs were not met and frustration created tension, which created low to no production.
The company faced major decisions and needed this situation to be resolved quickly. The managers
faced a crisis and needed a solution before the plant was forced to close its doors and have to lay off
the employees. The Scanlon plan created problems within the company and questions had to be
formulated and put into place to be addressed before any major decisions could be made. Although the
Scanlon plan was a good plan, it was not a one size fits all plan. Changes needed to be made and what
type of changes had to be addressed. Some of the other difficulties facing the company was, no

Reading Lolita Into Tehran Essay
Azar Nafisi uses the power of western literature to illustrate to her seven women students the
importance of connecting books to fictional imagination. She wanted to challenge her students to
discuss the relation between fiction and reality. (Pg 6) Women in Tehran, when the Iranian revolution
began, had little or no freedoms out of their houses. Nafisi took an enormous risk by inviting these
seven women into her house to discuss literature. If caught she and or her students could face jail time
because the books were banned in fear of conspiracy against the new revolutionary Iran. In the
memoir, Reading Lolita in Tehran, the extreme risks these women take are due to the reoccurring
theme of oppression throughout the story. As each day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women took power over men and had the ability to create their own destiny. Nafisi explains Gatsby
was constantly reinventing himself, being dishonest about his life and background, but in order to
achieve his dream, Daisy, he could not escape his own imagination and/or truth. Once reaching his
dream, his life would have no meaning. Gatsby, like most Iranian women, needed to learn that the past
was dead, the present is what we have today, and the future is what we can create in our own dreams
and imagination. With the loss of dream in their current situation the students were able posses their
dreams through books. In order to create your dream you must engulf yourself in a novel. A novel is
not an allegory. It is the sensual experience of another world. If you don t enter that world, Nafisi
explained, hold your breath with the characters and become involved in their destiny, you won t be
able to empathize, and empathy is at the heart of the novel. This is how you read a novel: you inhale
the experience. (pg 111) Nafisi taught those seven women how to gasp freedoms in which literature
brings to life. Through Nafisi s classroom, each of the girls was able to escape the horrible reality of
what was occurring around them. Being a teacher, Nafisi had the power to enlighten and inspire her
students to leave reality and escape into a fictional world. In this imaginative world, inside Nafisi s

Taga Biome Research Paper
If someone is looking for a magical adventure to a winter wonderland, point them north in the
direction of the wonderful biome, the Taiga! There is an opportunity to travel the world as the taiga
stands as the largest land biome in the world; locations include Canada, Alaska, Sweden, Finland,
Norway, Russia, and many more countries. Also known as the boreal forest, the taiga is home to a
variety of plant and animal life for an adventurer to experience. These areas experience half of the
year in the summer and winter seasons; depending on the season, it has a moderate amount of
precipitation and warm or freezing temperatures. The taiga biome, located at fifty and sixty degrees
north, holds a wide variety of plants and animals with many adaptations to survive the cold climate
and a moderate amount of precipitation.
Describing the Boreal Forest, one would say it is frigid and rainy, and which occurs because of the
cold climate and modest quantity of precipitation. The two main seasons are winter and summer, being
that around half of the year is spent in each. Autumn and spring come around for a very brief period of
time, but before a blink of an eye winter and summer are back in full force. Summer temperatures can
reach up to twenty one degrees Celsius and drop as low as negative seven degrees. These temperatures
leave the biome humid and warm for the summer months. While in the winter the high stands at

Eugene Ramirez Research Paper
Lindsey Ramirez has little to no tact. Lindsey s eyes are sometimes red. Sometimes she reeks of cigar
smoke. Like Forest Gump said, sometimes she smells like cigarettes. Lindsey sometimes walks
around in public with cigarettes or cigars lodged between her ear and the side of her head, for the
entire world to see. Sometimes she stinks like a distillery. Sometimes she smells like beer: sometimes
she smells like liquor. It is nothing for Lindsey to pull out a fifth in broad daylight and say, Let s get

surroundings. She curses and she is loud. She turns ordinary parking lots into movie scenes. She wears
her sleeping clothes when she leaves the house and goes to the grocery store. Lindsey loves attention,

Foreshadowing In Three Dirges Essays

A sense of ominous foreboding permeates the woeful passage from quot;Three Dirges. quot; The
conflict is immediately apparant: quot;Don Lazaro, you ve got five boys in Comitan teaching the
campesinos how to read. That s subversive. That s communist. So tonight, you have to kill them. quot;
Don Lazaro, the mayor of the war torn village, San Martin Comitan, seems to have no choice but to
carry out this heartless command. His response is indicative of a desperate man searching for answers,
yet already resigned to carrying out the task at hand. quot; What can I say? you tell me! quot; cries an

In contrast, however, the religious principales have assumed a formation of some sort; quot;marching
in six files, two abreast, quot; ceremoniously fulfilling their obligation as if all hope had already
eroded.
That hope further dissipated when the young men, now being led each by an older man, made their
way to the cemetery. The cemetery was an eery prediction of what was surely now about to happen.
Don Lazaro has protested so much that there is nothing he can do, it now borders on the pathetic. Does
he know of some additional harm that would befall him if he doesn t carry out this sinister plan? The
young men, now willing to sacrifice their lives, and resigned to doing so, bravely meet their fate.
quot; The five young men, each escorted now by an older man, followed the cofrades over the ridge of
the hill and dropped down on the other side just out of sight. quot; Certainly the reader can see that,
with the movement of the young men out of sight, the terrible command is surely about to be carried
out. Still there may be time to stop it if Don Lazaro would act quickly. The young men, foretold of
their own fate, perhaps taking control out of the hands of Don Lazaro by saying, quot; But what else
can you do? quot; Clearly, this has happened before to others in other villages, therefore their fate
seems sealed.

However because of the drop in value of the Malaysian ringgit, foreign customers would be able to
afford to spend more money on travelling. Low cost carriers may also take advantage of the cheaper
oil prices and lower their airfare to attract more customers, both local and international.
Technological Change
Airbus claimed that its latest aircraft, A330neo had been upgraded and it would be as fuel efficient as
Boeing s new 787 Dreamliner (Business Insider, 2014). This is an important advancement in
technology because 33% of the operating costs of airlines was spent on fuel (Air Transport Action
Group, 2014).
An advance in aircraft technology that reduced fuel consumption reduced the total operating costs of
the plane. The more fuel efficient an aircraft was, the bigger the distance travelled by that particular
aircraft with a set amount of fuel. This allowed an airline to expand its network and consider routes
that they were unable to consider before. However technology evolved quickly and if a better aircraft
is launched soon after an airline has bought the previous version, the previous version would most
probably become obsolete in a short period of time. In addition to that, there was a high possibility
that the start up cost of buying new aircrafts could be a cost burden in the short term.

Persuasive Speech About Stereotypes
Don t be racist, be PewDiePie. He is Swedish, looks American, lives in the UK, has an Italian
girlfriend, and likes Mexican candy. The U.S. is no longer as racist as it used to be, as 200 years ago,
you were likely a slave because of your skin color. However, today many Americans are being racist
to Asians in a new way: stereotyping. Hello, I m Dexter Chen, and today I will be discussing why you
shouldn t stereotype Asians because stereotypes aren t true, are extremely discouraging, and because
stereotyping is offensive in general. Before we get into this topic, let me explain what stereotyping is.
Stereotyping is judging a group, religion, ethnicity, or even gender, although these stereotypes might
not reflect on reality. This is caused by social media, the human tendency to reduce complex things to
simple things, and prejudice. You might be thinking to yourself: Gee, how is stereotyping offensive? It
s just a playful way of describing someone! If you are thinking that doubtful thought, then pay
attention, because I will show you why you shouldn t stereotype anyone, especially Asians. First
things first: Stereotypes are usually untrue. An average Asian American stereotype would be nerdy,
introverted, and smart. That stereotype isn t even close to true. Imagine 4.4 billion people all being
nerdy, smart, and introverted. That s literally not possible. Everyone s different in their own ways. Are
all Americans stupid and fat? Because that s what the rest of the world thinks

Stimulus generalisation is the tendency for stimuli similar to an original stimulus involved in a
learning situation to produce the response originally acquired. Behavioural psychologists suggest that
a person produces a fear reaction to the trauma situation; this fear is then produced again in response
to a similar stimulus, due to classical conditioning. Evidence for this theory was produced by Pavlov
(1927) who conducted experiments were dogs were presented with stimuli that elicited fear responses.
The dogs associated these stimuli with particular environmental cues. When these stimuli were
produced in front of the dogs the fear response was expressed. Evidence against the theory is that
classical conditioning cannot be the only mechanism involved in PTSD, since not everyone who is
exposed to a traumatic event develops the disorder. Cognitive explanation PTSD evolve due to a
person not processing the traumatic memories. Not processing the memories occurs due to the person
keeping busy with socially valued life roles. Therefore the memories do not get integrated into a
persons view about the world. To stop the symptoms of PTSD the cognitive explanation suggests that
people must process their traumatic experiences and integrate them into their world views, once they
have thought about their experience the responses associated with it will go.

The Detrimental Effects of Traditional Bullying and Cyber...
We have all heard the phrase sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me on
the playground or school bus ride home. The phrase was normally thrown out to bullies during a fight
in the schoolyard, pushes in the hall, food thrown in the cafeteria, or during the endless teasing and
taunting on bus rides to/from school. According to a national survey conducted by the National Center
for Education Services, U.S. Department of Education in 2002, 32% of students in grades 6 12
reported being bullied. Only 9% reported injuries or needing medical attention.

(Whittemore, 2009) It is especially hurtful when one s self worth is attacked repeatedly by those who
do not feel good about himself, and seek to feel better by cutting others down. Cyber bullying is a new
phenomenon that even the most tech savvy wasn t prepared for. It allows the aggressor to pick on their
victim at all hours of the day. It s not limited to the classroom anymore; it allows the bully to enter the
victim s safe zone: home. Emails, instant messaging, photo transmitting, and social media outlets are
the fuel that feeds this behavior. In traditional bullying, at the end of the day you can escape the
torment, but with cyber bullying, there is no escape. The translation of the saying has modernized
from its origin, when slaves used to mutter to their owners sticks and stones may break my bones but
names can never hurt me into today s newer version, sticks and stones may break my bones AND
words can hurt me.
Previous studies on cyber bullying have been conducted at the middle school and high school levels.
Bullying has always been a problem in this age range, so its natural for many researchers to target
children as their survey participants, studying their activities and communication through technology.
However, very few studies have been conducted on cyber bullying at the college age. This is the age
group that not only grew up when the computer found its way into almost every home, but when the

Social Class and Power in the Novel “Great Expectations”
Social class played a major role in the society depicted in Charles Dickens s novel Great Expectations
. Many characters were treated differently because of their social class in the story. Seeing the contrast
between how the poor and the rich were treated will give a clearer understanding of how much social
class mattered. During the nineteenth century, British society was dominated and ruled by a tightly
woven system of class distinctions. Social relations and acceptance were based upon position. Charles
Dickens utilizes Great Expectations as a commentary on the system of class and each person s place
within it. In the character of Pip, Dickens demonstrates the working class obsession to overthrow their
limitations and re invent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Realizing this will play a part in proving that social class did matter in most but not all cases. For
example, the lowest class people were Joe, Biddy, Magwitch, and Orlick. Joe and Biddy were very
poor but had very good hearts. Joe was always there for Pip and Biddy had moved in to help Mrs. Joe.
Magwitch was a dirty convict of the lowest class, but he turned out to be a very caring and generous
man. Orlick was low class and his character also turned out to be very low because he was a murderer.
The fact that there are both good and cold hearted people in the lower class shows that class has no
connection with how people really are. Another example is the richer class. This includes Ms.
Havisham, Estella, Herbert, Jaggers, and Wemmick. Ms. Havisham and Estella were both very
wealthy but they had no heart and their intentions were to bring hell to all men. While Herbert was the
opposite, he was a true friend to Pip and always stayed by his side. Jaggers and Wemmick also in the

The Importance Of New Anti-TB Drugs
New anti TB drugs There is an urgent needed new anti TB drug because of the complexity and
toxicity of the first and second line TB drugs regimen but main problem is drug resistance. It is an

How Advertisements Are Effective Or Not Towards The Audience
The FDA has Real Cost campaign advertisements that are used through a variety of different media
vehicles such as TV, radio, print, digital, and out of home states. (FDA 2016) These advertisements are
displayed through every media possible and it would be hard not to encounter it in form for the few
years it has been present for the public to see. Throughout my essay, I will discuss how these
advertisements are used and whether they are effective or not towards the audience in preventing
smoking. The most effective ways these Real Cost advertisements are used is by showing pictures in
magazines or on billboards in places such as train stations of tobacco s effects on your health. These
advertisements also air different videos of adolescents attempting to buy cigarettes and in each video,
they do something out of the ordinary such as pulling out their teeth or tearing a piece of skin off their
face. These advertisements are to inform the adolescents that smoking tobacco can cause various
health problems such as gum disease and premature aging. I have seen this campaign used most on TV
advertisements, especially when popular TV shows air at night and I feel it s the most effective form
of media used for FDA s Real Cost advertisements. According to Belch (2012), the interaction of sight
and sound offers tremendous creative flexibility and makes possible dramatic, lifelike representations
of products and services. TV commercials can be used to convey a mood or image for a

Mackie s Theory Of Moral Skepticism
Moral skepticism is defined as the denial of objective moral standards is correct, and that morality
therefore lacks any real authority (Shafer Landau). The concept of objectivity plays a part in the
theory of moral standards. Objectivity is used in the sense that a subject exists without its perception,
and that one can come to the same conclusion as everyone else given the same sources/information.
An object is in existence despite of any opinions or matters, which is why this principle is closely
associated with being reality and truth. Philosopher Mackie has a specific opinion on the ethical
theory called subjectivism or moral skepticism that discusses the falsehood of moral claims. Mackie
developed the principle of subjectivism, which states that morals claims do not exist. There is nothing

Relativity is used to discuss that moral codes are diverse and differ from societies. This argument
starts with the view that moral opinions vary among many people. Since there is not a universal
agreement on values, then values can t be objective. He uses relativity in response to cultural
relativism and states that individuals and groups don t come to their values and reflect way of life;
people practice their way of life and then come to their values. Different morals come from different
ways of life instead of having different views on moral beliefs. With this being said, if objective
values aren t the reason for moral beliefs, then there is no reason to believe in ethical claims. The
argument of queerness can take form being metaphysical. The metaphysical concept states that if there
is such a thing of objective values, they wouldn t be like anything else. If these values were to exist,
they would be really queer and unusual. If objective values did occur, one would need a unique, moral
sense, but ultimately objective values can t exist since they can t be

The Safety Of Elderly Drivers
A 79 year old Florida woman backed over seven pedestrians Sunday morning while backing out of a
handicapped space in a church parking lot killing three people (Baldacci). More and more accidents
have been described in the media where an elderly driver had been driving and people passed away as
a result of a car accident. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), elderly
drivers have higher rates of fatal crashes, based on miles driven, than any other group except young
drivers, the high death rate can be explained due to older peoples frail health older people are less
likely to survive an injury than younger people. Elderly driver s accidents have started the discussion,
how to prevent these accidents and the government has only come up with one solution revoke elderly
drivers driving license, which seems to be an extreme measurement. It is important, that accidents
involved elderly drivers would be prevented. Aging is a natural process of all living beings, passing a
certain age, many skills and abilities start to deteriorate, for example, vision, hearing and reaction
time, which are important for drivers. However, many older people continue to drive despite having
lost their motor skills, therefore, older drivers put other people and themselves at risk of being
involved in an accident. In 2009, more than half of deaths in crashes involving drivers over age 65
were older drivers themselves, 12% percent were their passengers and 28% of these

Soaring prices of residential property in UK

is no exception to this. All classes have become victim to this new wave of soaring residential property

accommodation crisis in the UK. According to one survey held by Nationwide, only in March 2014

door and there aren t any windows. Several charts are around the room but nothing that could affect
national security. There is a whiteboard on one wall with many different numbers on it that Xasalamel

but it s the large force that puzzles me, Xasalamel answers.
Where are they going to land? the general asks.

Why him? The general asks looking between the two of them.
Because I am the king of the Chaosns, Selison says leaning against the president s desk with his arms

Okay, the general starts as he glances to the president who shrugs. How are we going to deal with this

Online Education Vs Online Schooling
Online schooling has become more popular than in the past. Schools are even incorporating hybrid
classes that offer in class and online features. Some students think online school is easier than the
alternative, while others participate in online schooling for the convenience. The main three topics that
are talked about when comparing the two are the social aspects or participation, curriculum, and time
management. Online courses allow students to learn at their own pace and complete assignments and
tests just like they would in a traditional school. Both schooling options require participation, have a
curriculum, and require time management. While both school setups have the same general principles,
the way they are ____ can be different. Both online and classroom based schooling have social
interaction. Both options can contain group work, discussions, and some sort of social interaction
between instructor and students. However, in a traditional school setting; students participate in class
discussions, ask questions, participate in group work, ect. The drawback to this is the fact that students
are not necessarily forced to participate in class. Some students are too shy or just unwilling to
contribute. They may not ask questions or participate in group work. Because of this, class might seem
unbalanced and some students may feel like they carry the load of a group assignment more than
others. On the contrary, online schooling doesn t have face face contact. If a

Essay On Alaska
Budget and Economy in Alaska Located in the Northwest limit of the United States of America
(USA), Alaska is the largest state of the US. Despite its big dimension, it is one of the least populated
states due its cold weather. Most of Alaska s economy comes from its natural resources. The fishing,
natural gas, and oil industries dominate it almost 85% of its budget comes from oil and gas revenues.
Alaska also provides half of the nation s coal reserves, and has one of the largest silver and zinc
mines. However, most of its resources are undeveloped due to its remote location and lack of
infrastructure as mentioned in the ground truth trekking website. The industry directly employs around

Many regulations and measures have been passed to reduce pollution and control the use of natural
resources nationally as well as internationally. Most of the states and countries are also concerned
about the emission of carbon. Producing oil is also becoming less and less expensive thus making less
appealing to produce oil in Alaska where building a drill is more expensive. In addition, the ongoing
increase of the electric and more fuel efficient cars demand has a major impact on the oil industry.
This will result in a decrease of oil price and its demand. The best alternative for Alaska will be to
diversify its source of income and not just heavily depend on oil money. Since Alaska is donated with
many natural resources, Alaska can take advantage of it to develop its economy. Firstly, Alaska can
shift its focus from oil and gas to coal. About 30% of the US coal is in Alaska. However, most of the
coal is in the Arctic Circle and therefore hard to access. If Alaska invest in power plants and in
innovating technology that will allow to safely dig for coal in the far North, Alaska will considerably
increase its revenues given the high demand of coal here and all over the world. Alaska will also have
to do a research to effectively localize al the coal available in the state and the best to get to it. It also
must comply to the state regulations as well as

my opinion, and according to some sources. Before anything else, let s talk about his nature. From
where I am sitting, Cortes was ambitious, greedy and determined. This nature of Cortes is very evident
from the incident of his notorious behaviour of trying to escape from married woman due to which he

Making Peace In The Language Wars Analysis
Probable Peace in the Language Wars Author Bryan A. Garner, in his article Making Peace in the
Language Wars (published in Garner s Modern American Usage 3rd edition, Oxford University Press,
2009), seeks to negotiate a cease fire between two fighting countries, the prescriptivists and the
descriptivists, by dispelling myths about each of their camps. First and foremost, Garner outlines the
war is happening between the lines of our favorite novels and poetry, and he describes what each
camp stands for. Prescriptivists desire to instruct the world around them on how to use the language by
enforcing, or at the very least informing the general public about the rules of grammar. They are
sometimes described as conservative and are very concerned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
One of the main problems that Garner points out is the fact that prescribers often deny the need for
linguistic evidence. As they are typically rather leery of change, they tend to follow rules and enforce
them ex cathedra. Meaning that they simply take the rules for what they are and never question them
because they came from the ultimate authority. Prescriptivists tend to oppose any change in the rules,
even when the rule has become outdated and the meaning of the words has changed. Garner saw this
issue and aptly decided to support many of his entries with not only adequate evidence for how it
should be used, but also evidence on how it is currently being used even if it is not necessarily correct.
He explains that while much of himself resides in the prescriptive camp, he dips his foot in the
descriptive camp every once in a while. Prescriptivists, while having their problems, also bring a lot to
the table. The rules which they enforce essentially give the descriptivists the springboard that they
need to describe the language around them. It is absolutely imperative that one knows the rules of the
language before he goes out into the world to see whether people are following them or not. It is also
absolutely vital to have the skill of higher language for formal occasions. Garner describes this need
when he brings up the fantastic point of registers especially when making the distinction between

Conflict In Lord Of The Flies Essay
War is the state of conflict and competition between opposing forces. Nonetheless, war can be caused
through emotional and psychological issues through two sides that obtain power from the support of
influential followers. William Golding exhibits this perception in the novel, Lord of the Flies as a
plane carrying a group of British schoolboys is shot down over the Pacific during a combat warfare in
Europe. In the midst of consternation and chaos, Ralph, one of the many young boys on the plane, is
able to distinguish the fear among the boys and use them as a barrier to survival. Ralph s leadership is
visible from the beginning as he is elected leader of the boys, on the other hand, Jack is cheated out of
becoming the leader as he resembles a militaristic attitude who is greedy to make rules and discipline
anyone for breaking his rules. A component of the novel consists of Ralph and Jack struggling to
invest in each others distinct power leading to the boys descending into savagery and the loss of
civilization during the events of the atomic war. Through the background of the atomic war, Golding

Description of an Off-Campus Event
Stepping outside of one s own comfort zone is not an always an easy accomplishment. It can be very
uncomfortable to do something that would never usually be a part of your normal everyday life,
especially when it involves your religion and beliefs. On the flipside of all the lack of comfort, doing
something you usually would not do has many great benefits, such as learning new ideas and facts,
meeting new people, and overall broadening your knowledge of the world. As a non denominational
Christian, I decided to challenge myself by attending a religious event that I would never typically
attend. On Sunday, March 30th, I attended a Mass service at a Roman Catholic Church; specifically
St. Gabriel Parish in Norwood, Pennsylvania with a Catholic friend of mine that I was visiting for the
weekend. This was the first time I ever attended an actual Sunday morning service that was Catholic,
and I found it to be quite the interesting experience, even though it was not as unusual for me as I had
originally presumed it would be. I grew up in Norwood right near St. Gabriel, and passed it every day
to go to my good friend s home that was a football field length away from the churches front doors,
but I have never attended a Mass there, or at any other Catholic church for that matter. I have always
had a negative mentality when it comes to St. Gabriel because growing up the priest at the church

Supersize Me Mr Morgan Spurlock
During the documentary Supersize Me, Mr. Morgan Spurlock embarks on a month long experiment, to
see how McDonalds would affect somebody s body if that is all they ate over the course of a month.
The rules that he created were reasonable while also potentially harmful. He decides to go on a
McDiet where he will eat only McDonalds, 3 meals a day, over the course of 30 days. Before starting
his experiment, he is seen by three doctors, a cardiologist, a gastroenterologist, as well as a general
practitioner. He also was seen by a nutritionist and a personal trainer. In order to mimic the everyday
life of a typical U.S. citizen, he decides to only walk a suggested amount of 5,000 steps per day. He
decides to only eat and drink items that are on the McDonald s menu. Which included bottled water.
He must only SuperSize his meal when asked, but only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after this he starts to find himself feeling depressed and having headaches. He claims that after
eating a McDonalds meal, he is relieved of those symptoms. He soon gains another 8 pounds and is
described as becoming addicted. Morgans girlfriend claims that he has lost much of his energy and has
lost his sex drive. Towards the end of the experiment, he was experiencing heart palpitations and is
told to stop the experiment immediately out of concern for his health. His health is compared to
Nicolas Cage in the movie Leaving Las Vegas who drinks himself to death over a similar time period.
One doctor states that the irreversible damage done to his heart could eventually cause a heart attack
even if he lost all of the weight gained during the experiment. He experienced mood swings, excessive
weight gain, heart palpitations, headaches, depression, irreversible damage to his heart as well as his
liver. He found it more difficult to lose the weight than it was to gain it. It took him 5 months to lose
20 pounds and another 9.5 months to lose the remaining 4.5

How Are Montresor And Fortunato Alike
Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Cask of Amontillado, is very creepy, much like Poe s other stories.
It is about Montresor and his friend Fortunato. Fortunato plays a lot of pranks on Montresor and he
reaches his breaking point. He does not think that he should have to let Fortunato play his pranks and
Montresor feels like Fortunato is insulting to him, so he plots his revenge. He waits until a night that
Fortunato will be drunk and takes him to his wine cellar to bury him alive, in the walls, behind bricks.
THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I
vowed revenge. You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that gave
utterance to a threat. At length I would be avenged; this was a point definitely... The theme of this
short story is getting revenge on your enemies. Edgar Allan Poe uses Montresor and Fortunato to show

It was at night, while everyone was out drinking and enjoying their holidays. Montresor killed
Fortunato in a wine cellar that was in his house. The murder was in the very back of the cellar, a hole
in the wall was cut out for the occasion. It was dark and very humid in the cellar. Fortunato knew it
was a bad idea to go into the cellar because he could get sick, his judgment was impaired due to him
being drunk. He also really wants to impress Montresor with his knowledge of wines. The murder of
Fortunato takes place in the dungeons of Montresor s Italian Renaissance styled château... The telling

Polish Nationalism in Chopin s Works
Polish Nationalism in Frederic Chopin s Compositions Frederic Chopin was born in the year 1810, in
Warsaw, Poland and died in 1849, at the young age of 39 (Thompson, 113). He was also known as the
Poet of the Piano due to his nuance, his expressive depth and his ability to conjure up the melody of
the human voice from the instrument s keys
(http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/poland503/chopin.html). Chopin epitomizes the figure of
the Romantic Artist : withdrawn, temperamental, talented and doomed to a premature death from
tuberculosis. (Thompson, 112) As he had a small and frail physique, he used the beautiful tones,
rhythmic flexibility, atmospheric uses of the pedal and poetic subtleties in dynamics of his ... Show

rhythm in Chopin s Bolero is slower campared to the religious folk song. Yet another example of
Chopin s nationalism is seen in his Etude in A minor, Op 25 No.4, which can be compared to the
Marian song, Matko Najświętsza. The main melody from the religious piece can be found throughout
the entire etude by Chopin. Like most religious songs from

The Evil Eye Among The Azande
I. Introduction
This extended essay will involve a comparison of ethnographic material from two case studies, E. E.
Evans Pritchard s, Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande (Oxford 1937) and V.
Chryssanthopoulou s article on The Evil Eye among the Greeks of Australia: Identity, Continuity and
Modernization , in J. C. B. Petropoulos (ed.), Greek Magic: Ancient, Medieval and Modern
(Routledge 2008, pp. 106 118). The aim of this comparison will be to illustrate two different
indigenous systems of knowledge and understanding of man s misfortune in the world as employed by
the members of these societies. In particular, I shall be focusing on the beliefs and practices of these
societies which surround notions of misfortune in everyday ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, when Pritchard paid the two different witchdoctors to teach his servant all their secrets,
when he acknowledges that the custom is that the teachings have to be strictly confidential to someone
who is particularly interested in proceeding his career as a witch doctor. In addition, woman s position
in the Zande society is a very briefly mentioned aspect when on the contrary, Chryssanthopoulou
being a female anthropologist, has a frequency to mention only claims of women about the Evil Eye.
However; it might be the case that men among the Azande are more involved with witchcraft than
women and respectively in reverse in the Castellorizian community. Also, Chryssanthopoulou is a
follower of the Greek Orthodox Church that as mentioned above, accepts the Evil Eye concept.
Finally, it should be mentioned that Evans Pritchard being a British studied the Azande when they
were under a great change because of the British rule, but again the topic is only briefly mentioned in
the ethnography.
Evans Pritchard s work Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande was the first ethnography
that tried to understand the native s set of belief when in their own context and not through a
Westerner s eye. It was him that first criticized and disposed of the thought that there existed a
particularly primitive, prelogical mentality. His point was to investigate the interrelationships of
thought and

What Does Ambiguity Mean In The Things They Carried
When a word, phrase, or statement is ambiguous, it contains multiple meanings that can be interpreted
in at least two different ways. The use of ambiguity may confuse the reader on understanding the
author s viewpoint. However, it can also be used to convey the author s multiple viewpoints through
single word, phrase, or statement, thus, allowing the reader to understand the literature in deeper sense
of meaning. In the fictional novel, The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, the word carried carries
multiple meanings to each characters based on their cultural and religious background. The term carry
throughout the chapter, The Things They Carried, introduces physical, psychological, emotional,
spiritual, and intellectual burdens that O Brien s characters had to confront. In the beginning of the
novel, O Brien introduces his first character, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of containing, to serve as an agent for transmission, and many more. After the introductory paragraph,
O Brien wrote, The things they carried were largely determined by necessity . . . P 38 can openers,
pocket knives, heat tabs, wristwatches, dog tags, mosquito repellent, chewing gum, candy, cigarettes,

Abnormal shape of the cervix can also or changes of texture in the cervical muscle can cause issues
for the sperm travelling from the vagina to the uterus.
Immunological Factors: Some Females may have antibodies to sperm produced by the cervical
muscles, sometimes the immune system of the mother can prevent the embryo from attaching to the
wall of the uterus and cause a miscarriage
Ageing: Reproductive functions decrease the older a woman gets, this is due to fewer eggs being left
in the ovary and the quality of the egg also diminishes. When a woman is in her 30 s there is an
increased chance of chromosome abnormalities like down syndrome.
Causes of Male Infertility (4)
Varicocele (Veins around testicles in the scrotum): A swelling of the veins that drain the testicles. The
most common reversible cause of infertility in men. The exact reason for Varicocele is unknown, one
cause may be the abnormal testicular temperature regulation. Varicocele reduces the quality of the
sperm.
Infection: Infections can interfere with the production of sperm and the sperm health. These infections
include inflammation of the epididymis or testicle, as well as some sexually transmitted diseases.
Some infections can cause permanent testicular damage however in most cases sperm can still be

Generational Conflict in the Workplace
Abstract
Conflict in the workplace is not a new problem. Having many generations working towards the same
goal will almost always cause some friction. It becomes the responsibility of administrators/managers
in the workplace to not only understand the source of this conflict, but also diffuse it before it becomes
counterproductive. Conflict can be a very powerful tool in the workplace if not allowed to get out of
hand. Each generation in the workplace has much to learn from the others. They also have much to
teach. Using The Wheel of Conflict to understand this conflict will allow for a more productive, and
less hostile workplace.
Factors Leading to Conflict
With the recent downturn in the economy and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generation X consisted of the 1960 s and 1970 s. There were racial struggles in the not so distant past.
Old stereotypes die hard, and there may be some subconscious issues between the older guard and the
newcomers. These issues may not be as blatant as outright racism, but may be subtler. Gen Yers
wouldn t think twice about seeing a burka in the workplace, whereas Gen X and before may do a
double take. Relationships with family also play a large role in this conflict. Firstly Gen Yers are not
afraid to live with their parents until they find the right job. This can often be viewed unfavorably by
older generations who see this unwillingness to head off on their own as a weakness.
Needs
In order to properly address the conflict within the workplace, one must understand the various needs
of all parties involved. There are three basic types of issues to consider. The first of these are
Substantive Issues. This includes things like money or salary, resources needed for a job, or time.
Second is Procedural Issues. These include means that we use to address the conflict. This could be
communications or other means that are used to address conflict. Finally Psychological Needs comes
into play. These are things that all people generally hold sacred. This includes things like trust,
fairness, or respect. These general needs or issues are the same for all people. They only differ in the

Samuel Beckett Essay
Beckett s Absurd Characters
Beckett did not view and express the problem of Absurdity in any form of philosophical theory (he
never wrote any philosophical essays, as Camus or Sartre did), his expression is exclusively the
artistic language of theatre. In this chapter, I analyse the life situation of Beckett s characters finding
and pointing at the parallels between the philosophical background of the Absurdity and Beckett s
artistic view.
As I have already mentioned in the biography chapter, Beckett read various philosophical treatises; he
was mostly interested in Descartes, Schopenhauer, and Geulincx. These thinkers are the main sources
which influenced and formed Beckett s view of the world as well as his literary writings.

Essay On Cell Phone Distraction
Running Head:CELL PHONE DISTRACTION 3 Cell Phone Distractions Cell phones and technology
in general has advanced a lot over the last ten years. Allowing students to be able to take their phones
or devices wherever they want in today s society. Thus bringing forward the issue of cell phone
distraction in the classroom. Concerns about cell phones in the classrooms are also grounded in what
we know about teenage brains, including the inability to concentrate while multi tasking and possibly
long term effects on overall health (12) Multitasking is hard enough and if teens are doing this in the
classroom that means that kids are not learning enough while staring at their phones while the teacher
is teaching. Having said this a study from Pew research center stated that 78 percent of teens check
their devices hourly , this is insane. If that is true that means on average a student will at least look at
her/his device once per class period. As being a student in high school i find this to be very true.
Another study from Pew Research center stated that 50% of teens 13 18 feel addicted to their phones ,
this means that means separating from their phones will be tough. The reason i am writing about this
topic is to inform people about this epidemic and i am stating why this needs to be fixed. Unlike other
technologies there is something very specific about smartphones it represents life, entertainment,
social Running Head:CELL PHONE DISTRACTION 4 media, and gaming (12) the reason for this is
because of apps such as Netflix, Hulu, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and gaming apps. Phones being
allowed in the classroom are tempting for students. Students feel a vibration in their pockets and feel
the need to check their phones. Apps for example snapchat will flash the camera light when the
student receives a snap from someone. A research from Pew Research center asked a teacher what her
thoughts were on the issue. It s just too tempting for a student. Once that phone is brought out, most
can t resist texting a friend or begin playing a game. (12) Schools are allowing this epidemic to spread

Effects Of Wetlands On The Environment Essay
WETLANDS
wetlands are defined as transitional land between terrestrial and aquatic systems where the water table
is usually at or near the surface or the land is covered by shallow water. (Cowardin et
al.,1979).Wetlands are one of the most productive life support systems in the world characterized with
waterlogged soils and recognized for their unique role in regulating global biogeochemical cycles
(Reddy and DeLaune, 2008). In the context of global biogeochemical budgets, it is the carbon (C)
cycle that wetlands influence the most. carbon density of wetlands are higher among all other
ecosystems due to its high productivity and slow decomposition rates, (Kayranli et al., 2010 ).
Recent works by the Ramsar Convention s Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP), states that
there are evidences showing importance and under estimated role of wetlands in both carbon storage
and the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere.(2) significant amount of carbon
dioxide is emitted through degradation of wetlands .
Wetlands play an important role in regulating exchanges of greenhouse gases (water vapour, carbon
dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and sulfur dioxide) to and from the atmosphere . They depending on
temporal ,spatial and typical features ,wetlands tend to be sinks for carbon and nitrogen and sources
for methane and sulphur compounds..3 (figre 1) fig 1
All types of wetlands have the capability of sequestering and storing carbon through photosynthesis

Nestle Crunch Bar
Introduction:
There are a couple different themes that become very important when analyzing the Nestle Crunch
Bar case. During the case, many research channels were used to find various themes and feelings
residing within the consumer, conscious and subconscious. Between pages twelve and fourteen,
multiple feelings/themes are presented. A couple of these have stuck out in comparison to the others,
emotional comfort and enjoyment. These two themes seem to be present in the mind of the consumer
through all of the consumer testing studies and also within the consumer throughout the entire
purchasing experience.

feelings that evoked in the consumer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B) The brand personality of a company can be described as the set of human characteristics that
attributed to the brand of a company. It is something by which the consumer can relate to the brand
which can effectively increase the value of the brand by effectively communicating a sense of
similarity to their customers. There are five main types of brand personalities, but the one that matches
Nestle the best is, excitement. Nestle gives of vibes of a carefree attitude and connects best with
consumers that are youthful and spirited. Because of the nature of the products Nestle offers, the idea
of Point of Purchase (POP) becomes very important. Many of the Nestle consumers purchase their
products at the payment isle of grocery stores, so POP sales become very important. This also allows
packaging to play an extremely important role during the POP purchase. Because there are many other
similar products in the check out isle, it is important for Nestle to make their products stand out.
According to a brand manager from Nestle, For Nestle, packaging has a key role to play in brand
recognition . Environmental issues, mainly the use of biodegradable and sustainable materials, have a
growing impact on package design and materials sourcing. This is something Nestle keeps in mind
when communicating with their consumers and also when maintaining brand identity and packaging
characteristics. Nestle also recently announced that they

  • 2. Characteristics of Successful Online Students Essays Identifying Characteristics of Successful Online Students James Holcombe Liberty University 201520 Spring 2015 INFT 101 B69 LUO Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Taken directly from God s Word, I was reminded by my Professor this week of one of my favorite verses from the book of Isaiah. Interestingly enough, before I began my venture into higher education, I was scared: scared of failure, scared of the commitment it would require, and even scared of the possibility that I just might not be cut out for the task ahead. This verse, Isaiah 41:10, along with several other Scriptures, helped to assure me that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as 1 Corinthians 13:11 reminds us, When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things, even my style of learning has changed. Until this semester, I would say that of course I had the characteristics to be a successful online student; how hard could it be? But, ironically, during the same week that I first read Taormino s article, I began to fall behind in my classes. As I write this paper, I m juggling extra duties at home while my wife and I both recover from a nasty car accident. Fortunately neither of us were seriously hurt, but because my wife already suffers from a chronic autoimmune disease, even her minor injuries were enough to throw her into a painful exacerbation. What does this have to do with my online education? Well, everything, to be honest. All of the time I normally had set aside for my coursework must now be devoted to the daily management of our home (things that my wife usually takes care of). It s astonishing how quickly time gets away from us! I ve learned through this series of unfortunate events that I must take control of my time, rather than allowing it to take control of me. As Taormino asserts, Students need to plan their time accordingly to have sufficient opportunity to complete assignments and work iteratively based on feedback. Without time ... It is rare to find a college student that does not have a cell phone, laptop computer, email and Facebook account. • 5. Plato s Meno As A Socratic Discussion On Human Sexuality... Plato s Meno is a Socratic discussion on the definition of human virtues where the main participants are Socrates and Meno. Other speakers in the dialogue include an Athenian politician, one of Meno s slaves, and Socrates prosecutor Anytus, who is a friend to Meno. Meno wants to understand the broad definition of human virtues and while visiting Athens he initiates the dialogue on virtues with Socrates. The discussion begins with Meno inquiring from Socrates whether virtues can be learned. Meno argues that, according to the Georgian s, the attribute is defined differently by different people, and there is no common way to define it so as to apply it to all human beings. In response, Socrates argues that the Georgians do not understand the real meaning of virtue and in his opinion that some attributes are common to all human beings. Socrates also rejects the idea that virtues depend on human sexuality and age and insist that there are common attributes in humans. The conversation between the two becomes an argument on about the perfect definition of human characteristics. In essence, this paper discusses the critics in Plato s Meno that led to a senseless conclusion on virtues as it was significantly contributed by Socrates. As well, the paper will support the argument that the agreement between Socrates and Memo was based on distinct ideas. A misunderstanding starts when extracting virtues from the human characters. Meno, defines quite a number of human virtues, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Beck s Theory Of Psychodynamic Research History and Uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) grew out of dissatisfaction of certain therapists with traditional psychoanalysis. Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis were both instrumental in the development of this approach to psychotherapy (Van Bilsen, p. 7), though Beck, a psychoanalyst, is primarily credited with its development. Beck did research on depression, in the 1950 s, which was intended to give evidence in support of the theory that retroflected hostility was at the root of depression, but the research failed to confirm his hypothesis. As a result, he expanded his research on depression and came to the realization that depressed subjects held predictably negative thoughts about themselves, the future and the world around ... Beck, p. 3) Later in the book, he quotes the Stoic emperor, Marcus Aurelius as saying, If thou are pained by any external thing, it is not the thing that disturbs thee, but thine own judgement about it. And it is in thy power to wipe out this judgement now (Marcus Aurelius, quoted in A.T. Beck, p. 263) In general, the Stoic philosophers believed that we should recognize the difference between things we have power over and things that we have no power over. They taught that people are best served when they put their energy into dealing with the things that lie within their control. This idea is succinctly illustrated in the Serenity Prayer, used in numerous support groups. (Robertson, p. 20) One could say that Beck s chief accomplishment was to take truths that had been known for centuries and apply them in a way that was therapeutic. Although Ellis, Beck (and a few others) get a great deal of credit for the creation of CBT, they freely admit to being influenced, not only by the ancient philosophers, but also by earlier practitioners of the burgeoning art of psychotherapy. For example, referring to Paul Dubois work around the turn of the century, Ellenberger said Dubois told of his method of treating phobias. Emotions, he said, always follow ideas, so the treatment should go to the root, namely, the erroneous idea the patient has allowed to creep into his mind (Ellenberger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many employees felt they were doing all of the work and should get the bonuses, not management. This plan led to the employees feeling as though they were not treated fairly because of the many rate changes. The employees did not have input into the plan and felt management was playing games with the formula. Most of us like to be valued as an employee and a person. This plan did not allow the employees to feel this way. As the morale dropped, so did production and from there, the bonuses dwindled. Instead of looking at themselves for the lack of bonuses, they blamed management. Their lack of understanding on the rate changes did not help the process. According to Maslow s Hierarchy, the employees needs were not met and frustration created tension, which created low to no production. The company faced major decisions and needed this situation to be resolved quickly. The managers faced a crisis and needed a solution before the plant was forced to close its doors and have to lay off the employees. The Scanlon plan created problems within the company and questions had to be formulated and put into place to be addressed before any major decisions could be made. Once reaching his dream, his life would have no meaning. Gatsby, like most Iranian women, needed to learn that the past was dead, the present is what we have today, and the future is what we can create in our own dreams and imagination. With the loss of dream in their current situation the students were able posses their dreams through books. In order to create your dream you must engulf yourself in a novel. A novel is not an allegory. It is the sensual experience of another world. If you don t enter that world, Nafisi explained, hold your breath with the characters and become involved in their destiny, you won t be able to empathize, and empathy is at the heart of the novel. This is how you read a novel: you inhale the experience. (pg 111) Nafisi taught those seven women how to gasp freedoms in which literature brings to life. Technological Change Airbus claimed that its latest aircraft, A330neo had been upgraded and it would be as fuel efficient as Boeing s new 787 Dreamliner (Business Insider, 2014). This is an important advancement in technology because 33% of the operating costs of airlines was spent on fuel (Air Transport Action Group, 2014). An advance in aircraft technology that reduced fuel consumption reduced the total operating costs of the plane. The more fuel efficient an aircraft was, the bigger the distance travelled by that particular aircraft with a set amount of fuel. This allowed an airline to expand its network and consider routes that they were unable to consider before. However technology evolved quickly and if a better aircraft is launched soon after an airline has bought the previous version, the previous version would most probably become obsolete in a short period of time. In addition to that, there was a high possibility that the start up cost of buying new aircrafts could be a cost burden in the short term. The U.S. is no longer as racist as it used to be, as 200 years ago, you were likely a slave because of your skin color. However, today many Americans are being racist to Asians in a new way: stereotyping. Hello, I m Dexter Chen, and today I will be discussing why you shouldn t stereotype Asians because stereotypes aren t true, are extremely discouraging, and because stereotyping is offensive in general. Before we get into this topic, let me explain what stereotyping is. Stereotyping is judging a group, religion, ethnicity, or even gender, although these stereotypes might not reflect on reality. This is caused by social media, the human tendency to reduce complex things to simple things, and prejudice. You might be thinking to yourself: Gee, how is stereotyping offensive? It s just a playful way of describing someone! If you are thinking that doubtful thought, then pay attention, because I will show you why you shouldn t stereotype anyone, especially Asians. First things first: Stereotypes are usually untrue. An average Asian American stereotype would be nerdy, introverted, and smart. That stereotype isn t even close to true. Stimulus generalisation is the tendency for stimuli similar to an original stimulus involved in a learning situation to produce the response originally acquired. Behavioural psychologists suggest that a person produces a fear reaction to the trauma situation; this fear is then produced again in response to a similar stimulus, due to classical conditioning. Evidence for this theory was produced by Pavlov (1927) who conducted experiments were dogs were presented with stimuli that elicited fear responses. The dogs associated these stimuli with particular environmental cues. When these stimuli were produced in front of the dogs the fear response was expressed. Evidence against the theory is that classical conditioning cannot be the only mechanism involved in PTSD, since not everyone who is exposed to a traumatic event develops the disorder. Cognitive explanation PTSD evolve due to a person not processing the traumatic memories. Not processing the memories occurs due to the person keeping busy with socially valued life roles. Therefore the memories do not get integrated into a persons view about the world. To stop the symptoms of PTSD the cognitive explanation suggests that people must process their traumatic experiences and integrate them into their world views, once they have thought about their experience the responses associated with it will go. ... Many characters were treated differently because of their social class in the story. Seeing the contrast between how the poor and the rich were treated will give a clearer understanding of how much social class mattered. During the nineteenth century, British society was dominated and ruled by a tightly woven system of class distinctions. Social relations and acceptance were based upon position. Charles Dickens utilizes Great Expectations as a commentary on the system of class and each person s place within it. Realizing this will play a part in proving that social class did matter in most but not all cases. For example, the lowest class people were Joe, Biddy, Magwitch, and Orlick. Joe and Biddy were very poor but had very good hearts. Joe was always there for Pip and Biddy had moved in to help Mrs. Joe. Magwitch was a dirty convict of the lowest class, but he turned out to be a very caring and generous man. Orlick was low class and his character also turned out to be very low because he was a murderer. The fact that there are both good and cold hearted people in the lower class shows that class has no connection with how people really are. Another example is the richer class. This includes Ms. Havisham, Estella, Herbert, Jaggers, and Wemmick. Ms. Havisham and Estella were both very wealthy but they had no heart and their intentions were to bring hell to all men. While Herbert was the opposite, he was a true friend to Pip and always stayed by his side. Jaggers and Wemmick also in the higher class had supported Pip through his gentleman years. Being aware that not all of the high class were necessarily good people states the fact that class does not determine character. Even though class mattered in most things, this is an example it did not take part in. The theme of social class is central to the novel s plot and to the ultimate moral theme of the book. How Advertisements Are Effective Or Not Towards The Audience The FDA has Real Cost campaign advertisements that are used through a variety of different media vehicles such as TV, radio, print, digital, and out of home states. (FDA 2016) These advertisements are displayed through every media possible and it would be hard not to encounter it in form for the few years it has been present for the public to see. Throughout my essay, I will discuss how these advertisements are used and whether they are effective or not towards the audience in preventing smoking. The most effective ways these Real Cost advertisements are used is by showing pictures in magazines or on billboards in places such as train stations of tobacco s effects on your health. These advertisements also air different videos of adolescents attempting to buy cigarettes and in each video, they do something out of the ordinary such as pulling out their teeth or tearing a piece of skin off their face. These advertisements are to inform the adolescents that smoking tobacco can cause various health problems such as gum disease and premature aging. I have seen this campaign used most on TV advertisements, especially when popular TV shows air at night and I feel it s the most effective form of media used for FDA s Real Cost advertisements. According to Belch (2012), the interaction of sight and sound offers tremendous creative flexibility and makes possible dramatic, lifelike representations of products and services. • 23. Mackie s Theory Of Moral Skepticism Moral skepticism is defined as the denial of objective moral standards is correct, and that morality therefore lacks any real authority (Shafer Landau). The concept of objectivity plays a part in the theory of moral standards. Objectivity is used in the sense that a subject exists without its perception, and that one can come to the same conclusion as everyone else given the same sources/information. An object is in existence despite of any opinions or matters, which is why this principle is closely associated with being reality and truth. Philosopher Mackie has a specific opinion on the ethical theory called subjectivism or moral skepticism that discusses the falsehood of moral claims. Relativity is used to discuss that moral codes are diverse and differ from societies. This argument starts with the view that moral opinions vary among many people. Since there is not a universal agreement on values, then values can t be objective. Different morals come from different ways of life instead of having different views on moral beliefs. With this being said, if objective values aren t the reason for moral beliefs, then there is no reason to believe in ethical claims. The argument of queerness can take form being metaphysical. The metaphysical concept states that if there is such a thing of objective values, they wouldn t be like anything else. If these values were to exist, they would be really queer and unusual. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), elderly drivers have higher rates of fatal crashes, based on miles driven, than any other group except young drivers, the high death rate can be explained due to older peoples frail health older people are less likely to survive an injury than younger people. Elderly driver s accidents have started the discussion, how to prevent these accidents and the government has only come up with one solution revoke elderly drivers driving license, which seems to be an extreme measurement. It is important, that accidents involved elderly drivers would be prevented. Aging is a natural process of all living beings, passing a certain age, many skills and abilities start to deteriorate, for example, vision, hearing and reaction time, which are important for drivers. Garner, in his article Making Peace in the Language Wars (published in Garner s Modern American Usage 3rd edition, Oxford University Press, 2009), seeks to negotiate a cease fire between two fighting countries, the prescriptivists and the descriptivists, by dispelling myths about each of their camps. First and foremost, Garner outlines the war is happening between the lines of our favorite novels and poetry, and he describes what each camp stands for. Prescriptivists desire to instruct the world around them on how to use the language by enforcing, or at the very least informing the general public about the rules of grammar. They are sometimes described as conservative and are very concerned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the main problems that Garner points out is the fact that prescribers often deny the need for linguistic evidence. As they are typically rather leery of change, they tend to follow rules and enforce them ex cathedra. Meaning that they simply take the rules for what they are and never question them because they came from the ultimate authority. Prescriptivists tend to oppose any change in the rules, even when the rule has become outdated and the meaning of the words has changed. Garner saw this issue and aptly decided to support many of his entries with not only adequate evidence for how it should be used, but also evidence on how it is currently being used even if it is not necessarily correct. He explains that while much of himself resides in the prescriptive camp, he dips his foot in the descriptive camp every once in a while. Prescriptivists, while having their problems, also bring a lot to the table. The rules which they enforce essentially give the descriptivists the springboard that they need to describe the language around them. It is absolutely imperative that one knows the rules of the language before he goes out into the world to see whether people are following them or not. It is also absolutely vital to have the skill of higher language for formal occasions. Garner describes this need when he brings up the fantastic point of registers especially when making the distinction between speech ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He does not think that he should have to let Fortunato play his pranks and Montresor feels like Fortunato is insulting to him, so he plots his revenge. He waits until a night that Fortunato will be drunk and takes him to his wine cellar to bury him alive, in the walls, behind bricks. THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. Polish Nationalism in Chopin s Works Polish Nationalism in Frederic Chopin s Compositions Frederic Chopin was born in the year 1810, in Warsaw, Poland and died in 1849, at the young age of 39 (Thompson, 113). He was also known as the Poet of the Piano due to his nuance, his expressive depth and his ability to conjure up the melody of the human voice from the instrument s keys (http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/poland503/chopin.html). Chopin epitomizes the figure of the Romantic Artist : withdrawn, temperamental, talented and doomed to a premature death from tuberculosis. For example, when Pritchard paid the two different witchdoctors to teach his servant all their secrets, when he acknowledges that the custom is that the teachings have to be strictly confidential to someone who is particularly interested in proceeding his career as a witch doctor. In addition, woman s position in the Zande society is a very briefly mentioned aspect when on the contrary, Chryssanthopoulou being a female anthropologist, has a frequency to mention only claims of women about the Evil Eye. However; it might be the case that men among the Azande are more involved with witchcraft than women and respectively in reverse in the Castellorizian community. Also, Chryssanthopoulou is a follower of the Greek Orthodox Church that as mentioned above, accepts the Evil Eye concept. Finally, it should be mentioned that Evans Pritchard being a British studied the Azande when they were under a great change because of the British rule, but again the topic is only briefly mentioned in the ethnography. Evans Pritchard s work Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande was the first ethnography that tried to understand the native s set of belief when in their own context and not through a Westerner s eye. It was him that first criticized and disposed of the thought that there existed a particularly primitive, prelogical mentality. His point was to investigate the interrelationships of thought and ... It becomes the responsibility of administrators/managers in the workplace to not only understand the source of this conflict, but also diffuse it before it becomes counterproductive. Conflict can be a very powerful tool in the workplace if not allowed to get out of hand. Each generation in the workplace has much to learn from the others. They also have much to teach. Gen Yers wouldn t think twice about seeing a burka in the workplace, whereas Gen X and before may do a double take. Relationships with family also play a large role in this conflict. Firstly Gen Yers are not afraid to live with their parents until they find the right job. This can often be viewed unfavorably by older generations who see this unwillingness to head off on their own as a weakness. Allowing students to be able to take their phones or devices wherever they want in today s society. Thus bringing forward the issue of cell phone distraction in the classroom. Concerns about cell phones in the classrooms are also grounded in what we know about teenage brains, including the inability to concentrate while multi tasking and possibly long term effects on overall health (12) Multitasking is hard enough and if teens are doing this in the classroom that means that kids are not learning enough while staring at their phones while the teacher is teaching. Having said this a study from Pew research center stated that 78 percent of teens check their devices hourly , this is insane. If that is true that means on average a student will at least look at her/his device once per class period. As being a student in high school i find this to be very true. Another study from Pew Research center stated that 50% of teens 13 18 feel addicted to their phones , this means that means separating from their phones will be tough. The reason i am writing about this topic is to inform people about this epidemic and i am stating why this needs to be fixed. Unlike other technologies there is something very specific about smartphones it represents life, entertainment, social Running Head:CELL PHONE DISTRACTION 4 media, and gaming (12) the reason for this is because of apps such as Netflix, Hulu, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and gaming apps. Apps for example snapchat will flash the camera light when the student receives a snap from someone. A research from Pew Research center asked a teacher what her thoughts were on the issue. Effects Of Wetlands On The Environment Essay WETLANDS wetlands are defined as transitional land between terrestrial and aquatic systems where the water table is usually at or near the surface or the land is covered by shallow water. (Cowardin et al.,1979).Wetlands are one of the most productive life support systems in the world characterized with waterlogged soils and recognized for their unique role in regulating global biogeochemical cycles (Reddy and DeLaune, 2008). In the context of global biogeochemical budgets, it is the carbon (C) cycle that wetlands influence the most. carbon density of wetlands are higher among all other ecosystems due to its high productivity and slow decomposition rates, (Kayranli et al., 2010 ). Recent works by the Ramsar Convention s Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP), states that there are evidences showing importance and under estimated role of wetlands in both carbon storage and the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere.(2) significant amount of carbon dioxide is emitted through degradation of wetlands . Wetlands play an important role in regulating exchanges of greenhouse gases (water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and sulfur dioxide) to and from the atmosphere .
