Comparing Plato s Meno And Socrates
In Plato s Meno, the characters Socrates and Meno are introduced as Socrates being a teacher and
Meno being a young aristocrat. Meno questioned Socrates on whether virtue is teachable, acquired
through practice, or is natural. Socrates replied that he knows not what virtue is, so if he does not
know, how could he know what qualities it possess. Meno jumped at the opportunity to define virtue
to Socratesbut each definition is refuted. Meno and Socrates failed to reach an agreement on a
definition. Meno, however, raised an important question during this debate and this sparked an
interesting discussion. His question was, And how will you enquire, Socrates, into that which you
do not know? What will you put forth as the subject of enquiry? And if you find what you want,
how will you ever know that this is the thing which you did not know? (80e, Plato) In other words,
he s asking Socrates how he knows what definition he s looking for if he does not know the
qualities virtue possess as he previously stated. At the time Meno rightfully seemed skeptical about
the concept of virtue because it appeared to be very paradoxical to him. Meno believed it was...

He began by using the example of one s soul. Socrates says that your soul will live on forever and
it cannot be destroyed or damaged unlike your body, immortal. He believed that your soul was
present during the previous generations and it will be present in the generations to come. He
even says your soul has been born often and has seen all things...there is nothing which it has not
learned (81d, Plato). In other words, the lessons learned in the past stay forever and they are
recollected in the future and applied to the knowledge that is about to be acquired. Learning and
recollection go hand in hand, as one typically remembers what they have learned in the pass when
acquiring new knowledge. Meno is skeptical of this theory and asks Socrates to show him what he

The And The Doctrine Of Salvation
Soteriology or the Doctrine of Salvation is perhaps the grandest and greatest them in Scripture. If
we look at our world it s easy to see man s condition in sin. Mankind is completely helpless when
the message of salvation is ignored. Our world remains shattered and town by the condition of sin,
but Gods gracious rescue plan through salvation and JesusChrist will redeem us all and provide a
solution to man s problems. () This union with Christ is called the magical exchange in which
Christ assumes our debts and we inherit his wealth so that nothing (Horton pg.271) will be able
to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 8:39) (Horton pg. 323 324) Let s
visit the different layers of salvation.
In our textbook, Horton starts with the blessing of Justification. God justifies the wicked.
Justification is a legal act, wherein God deems the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ s
righteousness. Horton tells us on pg. 280, God justifies the wicked not those who have done their
best yet have fallen short, those who might at least be judged acceptable because of the sincerity,
but those who, at the very moment of being pronounced righteous, are in themselves unrighteous.
This means full repentance, which is defined as such, as a change of mind, or a conversion from
sin to God. And the relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that has offended God.
When we accept salvation we are also testifying to God that we are a changed person from

My Future As A Military Officer And My Current Life At The...
This particular lesson I felt was extremely applicable to both my future as a military officer and
my current life at the academy. This reading focuses on conflict among members in an
organization. The reading describes common issues that lead to unhealthy conflict and how to
avoid those issues. Conflict is seen as a good thing in organizations as it creates a more complete
understanding of the choices, it creates a better range or options, and ultimately allows for effective
decisions making. However, it needs to be effectively managed to have a successful organization.
Conflictcan sometimes turn unproductive, as comments can be interpreted as personal attacks.
The reading offers six tactics for managing interpersonal conflict. Of these six, I see the idea of
focus on the facts as the most important. This tactic states that the more information that one can
provide to a situation, the less likely conflicting viewpoints will be seen as personal attacks. This
is especially true when data is objective and up to date, as numbers do not lie and they are hard to
argue. I see this often at the academy when discussing possible changes in policy. Especially in
situations that involve many cadets. Often, discussions are very opinion based with little factual
information because cadets often do not have access to it. Because of this, these discussions often
become a pointless debate. I could make the assumption that this happens in an operational Air
Force setting as well. In

Crime Attrition
Introduction
Crimes involving sexual violence are normally under reported and are less likely to end up in
conviction results compared to other offences. This essay explored the reasons behind the high
attrition rate for sexual crimes respectively from both the victims and the criminal justice system
regards. The final finding reveals the problem base lies in the insidious social bias toward female
victims in sexual crimes, which not only affect victims themselves but also the working pattern for
sexual crimes in criminal justice system.

There may be some paradox elements during the victims recognition of the nature of the crime
(Weiss, 2011). Victims denial of criminal intent and serious injury as well as the victim identity
often lead to non report decisions. Out of the above mentioned denials, victims can hardly form the
correct conception of the criminal nature of the offending thus lead to the failure to report. To be
more specific, when a victim voluntarily vague the criminal intent by find excuses for the offender
and persuade himself of herself by no actual harm happening, even with the depressed self blaming
thoughts haunting in mind, the victim will possibly choose to take no action after being raped or
sexually assaulted because of the willing to minor the actual loss.
What s more, the victims individual perception of the efficiency and effectiveness of the
functioning of the criminal justice system which formed from previous contact experience or social
understanding may also influence their decision making. Considering the personal investments and
possible negative outcomes, sexual crime victims may choose look before they leap and end up

Should You Get an MBA Before Launching Your Startup? The Value of an MBA or Business
Education in Today s Competitive Arena for Entrepreneurship
Engineers, self made entrepreneurs and bootstrap enthusiasts believe that the right person with the
right work ethic can succeed in business with a good idea activated at the right time. However, in
today s complex, collaborative and highly technical business environment, a degree in business or
at least some strong business courses can give you the knowledge and tools to handle a startup like
a pro and reduce the learning curve that always appears in any business startup. Managing Growth

The Graduate Management Admission Council s Alumni Perspectives Report chronicles a rise in
the number of business graduates who start their own businesses. Entrepreneurs are growing
younger, better educated and committed to applying business skills to their own startup ideas. [3]
Although the demands of modern marketing, software implementations and integrating software
applications into sales platforms make it difficult to succeed in business without a thorough
grounding in modern sales, marketing and financing techniques, experienced engineers often
succeed in business without receiving formal educations on standard business practices. The
United States encourages this technology boom with its West Coast IT industry headquartered in
Silicon Valley and other areas. Education is a big key to business success even if it isn t limited
to business courses. Engineers, coders and developers are coming up with big ideas, but it often
takes people with business backgrounds to transform these ideas into practical ideas for sales and
marketing. Benefits of Getting a Business Degree
The benefits of getting a business degree can set you up for business success even if your
revolutionary idea for a startup doesn t succeed. Although there s no single path to business
success. A business degree and ideally an MBA will stand you in good stead when you encounter
typical business problems as your company grows. The benefits of

Alternate Energy Automobiles Essays
Alternate Energy Automobiles
Of the world s approximately 650,000,000 motor vehicles, fewer than 1,500,000 are not powered
by either gasoline or diesel. (Bradley 24). This minority of the vehicular population equates to a
mere two thousandths of a percent of alternately powered vehicles. Nearly all of these alternately
powered vehicles are powered by liquefied petroleum or compressed natural gas. The time to
change that for the better is here and we must push our way through the red tape created by
automakers so we can finally drive practical low emission cars. It is imperative that we begin
driving higher efficiency automobiles because the limited supply of fossil fuels is running low,

That is why I find it hard to believe that DiamlerChrysler, Ford, and Ballard have spent close to
$1 billion on fuel cells and plan to spend at least a billion more by 2004 to begin mass producing
vehicles. (Fairley 55). All of this without being forced upon by an environmental regulation or us.
Ironically when both the chief executive officer of GM and Ford retired they both decided to put
their effort into electronic vehicles (EVs).
The EV has a strange history which all started in the 1800s. The first invention that contributed
to the EV was the lead acid battery; the battery was constructed mainly of lead, copper, and an acid.
Back then people had no use for an EV which was incredibly slow and wasn t rechargeable.
However, a major step for fuel cells in the 1800s was by William Grove, [w]hile experimenting with
electrolysis [breaking up of water into gases] in 1839, Sir. William Grove discovered that the
reverse was also true. (Syndor, 57). Grove was accredited with the invention of fuel cells because
of this.
The most popular battery powered EV was offered by General Motors, and was on a lease only
basis for about the price of a BMW, or a Lexus. The new EVs are self sustaining, so they don t need
to be recharged like the battery powered vehicles. Most of the new EVs are hybrid or fuel cell
powered. Nearly all EVs can accelerate

Computer Programming Career Paper
Computer programming is currently one of the fastest growing careers. I enjoy spending time
sitting alone and looking at a computer. I would like a career that uses my greatest strengths to my
advantage. As a computer programmer, I can do what I enjoy for the money. This paper will
explore the job description, requirements and salary expectation for a computerprogrammer. To
begin with, the job description for a computer programmer includes many components.
Occupational Handbook, states that computer programmers write programs in many different
computer languages. They also update or expand existing programs. As well they have to test
programs for errors and fix the program if they find any (Occupational Handbook). Campus

dollars (Occupational Handbook). Pay Scale state that the more work experience in computer
programming the more you will get paid. They also say that the location you work at will also
determine how much you will get paid (Pay Scale). I think that not much goes into how much
you get paid as a computer programmer. I feel that I could make a living as a computer
programmer. I know that computer programmers can make a lot of money depending on where
you work and how much experience you have. In summary, you should consider the salary when
you are looking for a career. In conclusion, you should consider the job description, job
requirements, and salary expectations if you want to become a computer programmer. Firstly I
believe this would be a good career for me is because I like to do my work alone. My second reason
is that I can concentrate for long periods of time. My final reason would be because I can catch
little mistakes in code. With how fast computer programming is growing it would be easy to get a

Trap Shootings
Trap Shooting Most people don t know this, but a lot of schools have a trap team. BGM has a trap
shooting team called BGM Shotgunners, or BGM Trap Team. Beginners might want to get used to
shooting guns first. They also will want to figure out which brand or kind of gun you like. Other
experienced shooters will just want to buy the gunof their choice. There are trap guns just for trap,
or you can get a 20 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun. The only difference between the two is the recoil
or kick and that one is also heavier than the other because it is more powerful. They also have
different types of glasses for this sport. They each are for a different kind of day. For example
the yellow ones are for a darker cloudier day. Trap shooting originated from England and has been
a largely growing and popular sport ever since. Even though most schools don t have a trap range
or trap field, they may use a range that is open to public schools for shooting practice. Trap
shooting is the oldest shotgun shooting sport in America. People used to use real pigeons for trap
shooting. Back in 1880, George Ligowsky invented the clay target. Later in 1885, the first national

you knowing who you are, totally and honestly and from being one with nature. Before you can
even cast a spell, you must be ready to believe in yourself, to learn and understand yourself,
challenge your circumstances to change, and to listen while observing. When the underlying
problem still exists, a spell is not a magical band aid that will make things all better. It is also very

Honor Duty Honor War Speech Essay
General Douglas MacArthur addressed the cadets and commanding officers at West Point

was not only to address the cadets but to also inform the civilians of the expectations of a soldier.
Their expectations to follow the code Duty, Honor, Country. There are several techniques that are
used to create an effective speech. The tone is serious but also provides insight. It is great to
personalize the speech for the audience and the occasion. General Douglas MacArthureffective does

Ethos, which appeals to experience, is a primary part of MacArthur s speech. Being that
MacArthur spent majority of his life in the military. Not only did he serve and protect, he
prospered and lead many cadets himself. Using personal experience allows the cadets to relate to
him. But this award is not intended primarily to honor a personality, but to symbolize a great
moral code a code of conduct and chivalry of those who guard this beloved land of culture and
ancient descent (MacArthur). By upholding the values West Point instilled in him, the General
speaks of what he has done to get to this point in his life and how these aspects have molded him
into the man he is today.
MacArthur carries a humble tone while delivering his speech which is why it is so effective. He
admits in the beginning of the speech that he does not possess the proper diction, but still
delivers a very effective speech. Creating vivid imaginary as he describes the battle fields,
MacArthur places the cadets in battle mode through his eloquent diction. He also asks rhetorical
questions and repeats the West Point slogan several times throughout the speech. The purpose of
doing such is not to provoke an answer from the cadets, but to generate an effect. And what sort of
soldiers are those you are to lead? Are they reliable? Are they brave? Are they capable of victory
(MacArthur). He then proceeds to answer his own questions. These questions allow the

Introduction The German population were active participants in the persecution and eventual
execution of the Jewish people during the Holocaust. The government did this by slowly creating
the enemy, controlling the enemy, separating the enemy and then initiating what is now known as
the final solution. Paragraph 1: Creating the Enemy Following the Nazi Seizure of Power in 1933,
Hitler built up a Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda headed by Joseph
Goebbels. The Ministry s point was to guarantee that the Nazi message was effectively imparted

The laws barred German Jews from Reich citizenship and restricted them from wedding or
having sexual relations with people of German or related blood. Ancillary statutes to the laws
disappointed Jews and denied them of most political rights. The Nuremberg Laws, as they
wound up known, did not characterize a Jew as somebody with specific religious convictions.
Rather, any individual who had three or four Jewish grandparents was characterized as a Jew,
paying little mind to whether that individual distinguished himself or herself as a Jew or had a
place with the Jewish religious group. Numerous Germans who had not practised Judaism for
quite a long time got themselves captured in the grasp of Nazi hatred. Indeed, even individuals
with Jewish grandparents who had changed over to Christianity were characterized as Jews. The
motivation behind the Nuremberg Laws was to totally isolate the Jewish populace by never again
thinking about them as a religious gathering however as a race, they did this by putting facial
highlights to the race . This implied the isolation and control of the Jewish populace would be
considerably simpler to complete and execute. Ordinary residents, energized to some degree by
Goebbels hostile to Semitic purposeful publicity, bolstered the Nuremberg Laws and partook in

Initially Dianetics developed as a self help system, subsequently Hubbard established his ideas
into a wide ranging set of principles and rituals as part of a new religious movement that he

An important segment of Dianetics is auditing which is defined as, the application of Dianetics

Communist Manifesto Essay
The Communist Manifesto was built with intentions to serve as a program meant for the
Communist party during its time of publishing. Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, philosopher and
author (titled respectively), composed the document as a form of instruction for the followers of a
new congress, which is known as The Second Congress . The duo worked tirelessly throughout the
final months of the year 1847 and through January of 1848, only to have a modified adaptation of
their original document published in February of 1848. The Communist Manifesto acted as a
symbol of victory for the newcomers to the Communist party. The authors used the document to
clarify the contradictions in between various social classes and to identify various injustices in
between them. To ensure that their views and opinions of the Communist party were proliferated
throughout as much of the continent of Europe as possible, Marx and Engels requested that
editions be published in multiple languages for multiple understandings. Therefore, after the

Nephrolithiasis And Kidney Stones
KIDNEY STONES
What are Kidney Stones?
Kidney Stones are also called Renal Calculi. Nephrolithiasis is the condition of having Kidney
Stones . These stones come about from chemicals in the urine, forming a tough crystalline mineral
deposit from within the kidney, that stick together inside the kidney or urinary tract. Typically, they
develop in the inner surfaces of one or both of the kidneys. Supersaturation urine is what actually
creates the stones, this happens when there is an imbalance in the waste chemicals in the urine,
which then causes the stones. As to under saturation urine crystals cannot be formed due to lack
of calcium produced. They can be as little as a grain of sand that can be invisible to the naked eye,

What I Learned in the Eighth Grade Essay
Throughout my academic life, I have learned many essential lessons from being organized, to
treating others with respect. However, my 2013 eighth grade school year has taught me the most
important lesson of all, team work. Team work is the ability to get along with others, and it s the
central piece of being respectful to your peers and doing your part! As my eighth grade year began,
my teachers have taught me that getting along well with others is a splendid way to gain great

This is a question I tend to wonder about when I m stuck in a situation, and it seems to shift me
in the right direction. Equally important, teamwork has taught me how to be a successful leader.
Through team work I learned that some people are leaders, and others are followers, and that is
okay! It taught me that I work well as a leader, and am good at giving people tasks. Working with
other people can be difficult, but I learned how to overcome those obstacles and be a more
exemplary person. Also I learned, through school, that by leading a team, I am working and
motivating my group. To illustrate, a precocious girl is put with a group of her peers to finish a
project. The girls group was extremely unmotivated and did not want to work on the project. The
girl took it upon herself to give everyone an individual job, and inspired them to work. This is a
prime example to show how teamwork and work to create a successful leader. Lastly, teamwork
through sportsmanship has taught me to put in extra effort to get the results I want. Elbert Hubbard
once stated A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may
turn to glorious success. I ve learned that in order to have a strong team, you need to put superfluous
work. You cannot expect to get a maximum amount of results with a minimum amount of endeavor.

The Peral by John Steinbeck
If a homeless man were to win a $1,000,000 lottery, how would he handle the circumstance? In
The Pearl, John Steinbeck depicts the story of Kino, a destitute Mexican Indian male who
devotes his life towards his wife and newborn son. He discovers a great pearl that seems to have
the potential to change his life for the better; however, Steinbeck shows how Kino s discovery of a
great fortune can lead to disaster. The pearlinstalls greed in Kino as he desires to improve his
social status, and overall creates an evil corruption that destroys his family. The pearl has three
primary functions. It causes man to become more impulsively animalistic, shows society s
corruption; greediness; and jealousy, and provides a false hope, an illusion that the pearl is
infinitely valued, but in reality has no value at all.
The discovery of the great pearl influences Kino to be more animalistic. ...Kino s fist closed over
the pearl and his emotion broke over him. He put back his head and howled. His eyes rolled up
and he screamed and his body was rigid (Steinbeck 11). Kino s excitement of this discovery leads
to his an impulsive wolf like behavior, howling, which shows the power of the pearl in
triggering man s impulsiveness. The pearl also installs paranoia in Kino, as he fears others
stealing his prized possession. ...a wild fear surged in Kino s breast, and on the fear came
rage...he sprang like an angry cat, leaped striking and spitting for the dark thing he knew was in the
corner of

Human Impacts on the Environment
Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification
Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a
sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the
marine biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life.
The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved
under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial
Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture
have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. Excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropogenic emissions over the past 200 years have caused ocean acidity levels to increase by
40 %(Ocean Studies Board, 2010). Without major intervention and significant reduction of the
global carbon footprint this will result in severe and irreversible damage to ecosystems and
organisms ocean wide.
Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and
elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other
marine systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and
acidification has effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. These processes
are key for zooplankton and phytoplankton composition.
Humans are provided with a variety of services from marine ecosystems, such as protection from
erosion and coastal flooding, seafood, nutrient cycling and natural products. As acidification
progresses, these precious assets are likely to disappear. Should we choose to, there is both the
technology and the economic potential to ensure a discernible decrease in carbon dioxide
emissions. This is a far preferable and effective alternative to suggestions of geoengineering, with
many proposed strategies failing to address the root cause of acidification (Royal Society, 2005).
The longer it is taken to find a combative strategy, the greater the legacy of environmental

Articles Of Confederation Vs US Constitution
The idea of state government came from the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of
Confederation were the first type of government the US had, and they were based on the state s
powers. Soon, the Framers of the US saw that the Articles of Confederation were not working, and
each state was like it s own country. The Framers met at the Constitutional Convention, and there
were two sides as to how the US Constitution should be written. The Federalists wanted a strong
Central government, but the Anti Federalists wanted a government that gave the power to the
states. There was a compromise made, and a central government was created, but also the states
were given their own government. There are many similarities between the two governments, but...

way it does. Although, It must be somewhat different, otherwise a compromise would have never

Themes In Carl Sandburg s The Hidden Truth
The Hidden Truth The young girl continues to shield the truth underneath a mask of makeup, her
heart breaking with every layer applied in attempt to cover her battle wounds. This sickening
routine, stuck on constant replay, has grown old over the years as she flourished into a young
woman living in the lies of a broken home. Tears streaming down her face leave temporary stains
on her blouse which she wears that day to school. She perfects her every bruise and cut, left as a
reminder of her father s wrath from the long nights before. She barely glances at the mirror terrified
to see the truthof her reality. Unsatisfied with herself she rises, convincing herself that she is ready
to take on another agonizing day of pretending, once again feeling empty inside. In a society filled
with lies and secrecy, we are often caught up in personal dilemmas. In attempt to make ourselves
feel betterabout a situation, we lieto ease the tension that builds up inside. As seen in Carl
Sandburg s intriguing poem, society turns a blind eye to the issues that have once been
prominent in our world. Because society refuses to face its problems head on, we are forced to
deal with the repercussions of our ignorant habits. We have all heard the saying, with age comes
wisdom, but society s actions contradict this philosophy. Instead of looking our problems in the
eye, we tend to turn our heads the other way, as if a problem never existed. As seen throughout
history, it seems as if war has taught

Essay On Rock And Roll
We all know of rock and roll; ACDC, The Beatles, Duffy. The absolute rockstars, literally, of
rock. But do we know anything before, or after the golden ages? Do we understand what has
happened to rock and why it is so valuable today? Who started rock and roll? Well, that s easy.
Chuck Berry introduced something never heard before, the song named Maybellene . Chuck
decided to have a nice electric guitar solo, as well as comforting tones that ran over the music
with a small valve amplifier. Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Little Richard were major pioneers
in this area of music. They coaxed Rockabilly to become a thing. This all happened in the 1950s.
Thank you, Elvis! Moving into the 1950s. The solid body guitar was introduced (and sold) in this
time period. This was the ultimate sprout of rock and roll. R B, Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Boogie, you
name it, Rock and Roll most likely had it. In 1953, Bill Haley and the Comets song Crazy Man
Crazy hit #12 on the charts. At this point, African American rock artists were extremely popular,
and making it to the top. The Orioles made it to the top as well with Crying in the Chapel . Many

World, musicians started using more drums and more bass guitar to hit more crucial and
emotional parts of the song. Tears for Fears were not the only ones changing music in the 80s,
though. Metallica, Michael Jackson, Asia, Prince, Madonna, and the Rolling Stones became huge

Reflection On Team Management
Let me begin with why I choose this course. From my past experience, I have worked for some
good managers and some not so good ones. However, what I realized is that they can manage
people but not that efficiently and effectively. This is where I understood; I need to learn how to
manage people more effectively and efficiently. This course was offered for the first time in our
program and it grabbed my attention even though this would be an extra course for me. Our
first class was very friendly as everyone in the class had to introduce themselves to others based
on which teams could be formed. This exercise spontaneously made each of us talk something
positive as an individual and what they can bring to the team. I really liked the last part of this
exercise; what all an individual can add to a team. Then we had a quick 5 minute session of
shaking one another s hand without talking to each other. Here, we all made a mistake of not
shaking the professor s hand as we all assumed him not to be a part of the exercise. Once we
formed our team, we had a small exercise of making 15 paper airplane which had to travel a
distance of 10 15 feet. This exercise taught us the forming part of the team model to adapt quickly
in our new team, help each other and come up with a solution. Here, one team member observed
the entire process without giving any inputs. I felt this technique could be used in our daily
meetings to get constructive feedback on how the team is working and get rid of

Comparing C. S. Lewis The Witch, And The Wardrobe
It is through living a life filled with change and experience that Clive Staples Lewis was able to
confidently proclaim, Is any pleasure on earth as great as a circle of Christian friends by a fire
(The Quotable 223)? Without the events that led C. S. Lewis to this mindset, his famed novels
would probably be nonexistent. The various aspects of Lewis s life inspiring his works are
especially prominent in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, an installment in his series The
Chronicles of Narnia. These moments allowed Lewis to learn, mature, and grow as a person.
Additionally, Lewis was able to draw from these experiences as vast inspiration for unique ideas

S. Lewis wanted to share the gift of God with the world. However, Charles Moorman notes in
Contemporary Literary Criticisms that Lewis wanted to complete this feat in an unforced and
subtle way. His goal was to present Christianity from a non Christian point of view. Furthermore,
he aspired to lure people back to the Church and away from laboratories and science (324). Due to
his religion, the power of good versus the power of evil was an extremely prevalent theme and
focus in Lewis s works according to Kathryn Ann Lindskoog. Lewis was also fond of the
Christian idea that good, or Christ, always triumphs over evil (263). In 1 John 1:9, Jesus death
grants forgiveness to the rest of the world, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (NIV). Similarly, Lewis often
incorporated the idea that the fall of man ultimately brings good to others in his novels. It is this
idea of self sacrifice that thoroughly fascinated Lewis. However, Lewis was aware the people
may be skeptical of his religion, as he once was. Because of this, his works sometimes
incorporated elements of skepticism (Moorman 324). Converting to Christianity was a huge step in
Lewis s life and he wanted to subtly let his readers know about this fantastic

Interest rates
Most businesses will need to borrow money. The interest rate will affect how much it costs a
business to borrow money. If the interest rate is high the money a business owes is more than
before. A 20% interest rate rise would affect Cadbury s; they would have to pay extra money
towards the loan. This too would affect Sainsbury s in the same way. Any interest ratesthat go up
will affect a business because the business needs to make up the costs and the only way to do this

If they did lower their prices they would loose money anyway so it is a hard move for the other
stores. Cadburys could update products such as dairy milk. Or they could change the packet and
make it more flashy or different. E.G
Sainsbury s could sell healthier foods like their be good to yourself range. This is very successful
because Jamie Oliver is advertising and when he says it s good it is good. Vouchers for active kids
will make people buy their products. Nectar points will make people buy the products too because
people will spend money and save money at the same time.
The Environment
The environment can be a big factor in the running of a business because if they do anything to
affect the environment they will get loads of environmental protesters trying to close down the
factory or trying to ban the product. If Cadburys were to produce too much pollution they would
be greatly concentrated on and their reputation would be lost. In their case they would loose a
lot of money because they only sell edible products so they would be closed down, [IMAGE]but
if Sainsbury s got accused of polluting too much they could do a whole range of things because
they don t just sell edible foods and they don t make the food in their own shop (except for bread

Analysis Of Thomson s Argument Of Determining The...
Through the words of Thomson, the argument of determining the implementation of life exists.
Thomson examines the conflict between practicality and impracticality. Practicality stands on
empiricism where science based beliefs as factual concrete information structures the overall
argument of pro choice. Impracticality stands on faith where it could be argued that religious
based knowledge serves as concrete information to defend pre life. In my essay I will argue
Thomson s claim of the special cases in which abortionis acceptable and challenge the morality of
deciding the fate of a human life who does now have a voice of input.
Thomson begins her argument by discussing when life begins. There are two theoretical ideas of

Similarities Between India And Greece
Greece and India were more different, because Greece believed in Humanism and India believed in
spiritualism. Greece believed in what was right in front of them, things they could see rather than
believe in. India believed in something higher, something or someone who created everything that
had happened. Because their differences in beliefs, India and Greecehad a different way they
governed their countries, their beliefs and religions, along with the fluidity of their social structures.
Ancient Greece and India had different views on their religions and beliefs. Greece, unlike India,
did not have a specific religion or belief, like the Indians did. Greeks and Indians both believed in
Gods to some extant, however, Greek pictured their gods as humans, and Indians pictured them as
something higher than humans. Greece was not as reliant on religion as India, as they were mostly
based on philosophy. Greece did believe in Gods, but thought of them as humans rather than
anything they couldn t see. India, unlike Greece, had very specific beliefs and had three main

Before the war.
Before the war, there were lots of problems
which led up to the revolution and we call them
the long term causes. The peasants working and
living conditions were very bad but the
government made it even worse by its own
policies. Russia needed to develop its industries,
so that it was a modern agricultural country
instead of a backward one and also to remain in
an important military power. To aid this dilemma
the government invested in enormous amounts of
money in improving Russia s industries. Where
did most of this money come from? From the
pockets of the people in Russia!
To do this, the peasants had to pay huge taxes

whether they would have any real power. By the
Dumas first meeting it was clear. They could not
pass laws, they could not appoint ministers and
they could not control finance in such important
areas as defence. Was there much point in them
if the Tzar did not like what they were doing or
proposing to do, he could dissolve them?? So, no.
In my opinion the peoples views were not being
heard through the Dumas. There are lots of
opinions as whether the Tzar was fit to rule
Russia. In my opinion, the Tzar was not fit to rule
Russia but this was by no means his own fault.
He was taught as a soldier and he was not taught
to act and behave like a king so it was his
statesmanship that was at fault, not him himself!!

Terrell did retire to a really nice retirement community. His decision to retire from his work as an

The Indian Act Was Enacted In 1867 By Parliament Of Canada
The Indian Act was enacted in 1867 by the Parliament of Canada. The Department of Aboriginal
Affairs and Northern Development administered the act. The act defines who an Indian is and the
legal rights of the Aboriginal people in Canada. Regulation of the economic system between
aboriginal people and the government of Canada is included in the Indian Act. It also includes the
power the ministers have on the aboriginal people including children and disabled Aboriginals. If
the laws are not obeyed, the punishment is written in the act. The Indian Act was influenced by the
legislative foundation of the Royal Proclamation, 1763, which recognized Aboriginals as a distinct
political unit (Residential schools). The Royal Proclamation, 1763, thought that it was their duty to
protect the Aboriginal people from the Canadian society. The Royal Proclamation, 1763, had the
responsibility for Aboriginal affairs in Canada with British imperial authorities. However, by the
mid 1800s Britain began to transfer this responsibility to Canadian colonies. Then the Canadian
authorities passed the First Indian Act. Over the years many amendments have been made to the

The Recession Of The United States Recession
Recession is termed as a period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial
activity are reduced, generally identified by a fall in GDP in two successive quarters. Based on
the complete recession that took place few important points that I could gather in specific
considering each type of recession are listed below. How it took place? Causes for it and what
impact it had on the audience. Let me discuss about this in brief.
The recession of 1937 38 is usually known as the recession at intervals Depression. It came at a
time once the recovery from the good Depression was aloof from complete and therefore the per
centum was still terribly high. In fact, it had been a fatal natural event to the recovery. Real value
fell 11 November and industrial production fell thirty second, creating it the third worst United
States recession within the twentieth century (after 1929 32 and 1920 21).
The recession is usually attributed to a adjustment of business enterprise and financial policy.
Christina Romer (2009) has argued that it s relevant to today s scenario as a result of it illustrates
the risks of a premature withdrawal of stimulant once the economy remains weak. But the
recession remains somewhat of a mystery as a result of the 2 most often mentioned causes the
reduction within the business enterprise deficit and also the Federal Reserve s call to double
reserve needs don t seem to possess been powerful enough to get a recession of the magnitude seen.

Partisan Polarization Has Been An Issue For Many Americans

The Trade Routes And The Spread Of Islam
The Malian Trade Routes and the Impact on West Africa Through the Spread of Islam Along
These Routes The trade routes of Mali are not as well known as others like the Silk Road, but they
were influential in the trade of North Africa and forever influenced history. These trade routes
conveyed gold, salt, and, to a lesser extent, copper to empires in the Middle East and Mediterranean.
However, the most influential effect of these trade routes was the spread of Islam throughout West
and Central Africa. The empire of Mali rose in the early 13th century and soon expanded. The
empire controlled all of the main trade routes throughout West Africa, which are collectively
referred to as the Malian trade routes. These trade routes were vital to most of the world. Berber
traders from northern Africa came along these routes to get gold and salt, vital for the flavoring
and more importantly the preservation of food, to trade to the Middle Eastern and
Mediterranean empires. In addition, traders from northwestern Africa brought salt along these
routes to major trading cities in Mali, to trade to the Berber traders and merchants from Central
Africa. Mali had so much gold and the trade of gold was so important to the rest of the world that
maps of the ancient world depicted Mali with a gold nugget or with a man wearing a gold crown
sitting on a gold throne and holding a gold spear in one hand and a gold coin the size of his head in
his other hand. The salt trade was also very

(Ketchen Short, 2017). It can be defined as an organizational level strategic management, which
includes characteristic such as: autonomy, risktaking, competitive aggressiveness, innovativeness
and pro activeness. When major brands Apple and Nike implement entrepreneurial orientation
successfully, they re able to achieve high performance and quality products through innovative
techniques that allows them to maintain market dominance. We ll go into further detail discussing
how both these companies effectively executed entrepreneurial orientation to achieve such success;
starting with some background information.
Apple s history dates to 1974 when two men, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak had a vision that
inexpensive home computers would soon be in demand. Two years later, Jobs and Wozniak built
their first computer in Jobs family garage, they named it Apple I. On April 1, 1976, the Apple
Computer Company was established.
Nike began as an enterprise in Oregon with its founder, sports enthusiast Phil Knight. In 1962, Nike
started under the name Blue Ribbon Sports. During this time, the athletic shoe industry was
dominated by the Adidas and Puma companies. Knight recognized there was segment of serious
athletes that had specialized needs that were not being addressed by the major companies.

The Multics Operating System Project Undertaken At The...
The Multics operating system project undertaken at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) in the 1960s was a novel and powerful approach that helped shape the subsequent course of
computing technology. In particular, Multics served as the model for utility computing and the
various kinds of on demand software, platforms, and infrastructure services that exist today. Multics
was the first instance of the cloud. Leaving networked computers inside, Multics also offered a
novel approach to hierarchical file structures that served as a model for future security approaches.
Description of Multics: From Inception to Last Instance Multics is the shortened name of the
Multiplexed Information and Computing Service. Multics grew out of the idea, proposed by MIT s
John McCarthy and some other computer scientists in the 1950s, that computers ought to have time
sharing capabilities (Garfinkel, 1999). At the time, computers were used by one person at a time,
which was economically and scientifically inefficient (Bourne, 1978). There were various
demonstrations of effective time sharing on computers before the debut of Multics (Creasy, 1981).
The true novelty of Multics lay in McCarthy s vision, promoted in a 1961 lecture, for computing as
a utility (Steele Jr, 1975). McCarthy suggested that, in the future, computing power could be
allocated among geographically dispersed users, much in the manner that an electrical utility
disperses electricity to a large and geographically

A Quality Improvement Storyboard
A Quality Improvement (QI) Storyboard is an organized way of documenting and displaying the QI
process. Most storyboards use clear, concise and easily understood statements to describe a problem,
identify the cause(s), explain the solution and display the results. Often, pictures and graphs are
used to show data, present results and demonstrate solutions. Furthermore, the QI Storyboardcan be
used as an ongoing visual record of a team s progress.
The QI Storyboard should include the following 7 components. When possible, each step should be
expanded upon; explaining the methods used, and potential outcomes achieved.
Step 1 Reason for Improvement. Step 1 determines if a problem exists. If it does, is it a temporary
problem or is it a long term problem. What is the context of the problem and how is its effect

In step 3, the organized data gathered in step 2 is reviewed and analyzed, looking for factors
which can be changed to in order to improve the situation. Moreover, we want to verify that
problems identified, are most certainly causes to the problem. It is pointless to change a factor that
has no direct effect on the problem. The tool that is most useful in step 3 is the cause and effect or
fishbone diagram. Furthermore, statistical experiments can be used to correlate relationships
between identified factors with the results in the form of scatter plots.
Step 4. Countermeasure. In Step 4, all possible changes are formulated, based on feasibility of the
solution and the effectiveness it will have will upon the root cause factors that eliminate or
significantly reduce the problem. Additionally, when addresses changes, we want to assess whether
each change formulated is not only corrective in nature but preventative also. Implementing
preventative changes has a greater overall effect, it prevents recurrence. The tools used during step

Voter Turnout Research Paper
Elections are an important part of creating a legitimate state. They allow us to have a say in how
decisions are made in a government. However, the voter turnout for an election does not have an
effect on the type of regime that will develop in a state. It does not matter if the election is in an
authoritarian government or a democratic one, the regime does not have a large impact on the
turnout of voters. What matters in voter turnoutis whether the citizens believe in the regime. If they
feel that the state is legitimate then they are more likely to vote. Also, if the voters believe that
their vote counts and is not a wasted vote then you are more likely to have a larger voter turnout.
For example, the International Institute for Democracy

Chimpanzee Experimentation
I believe it s right to test on chimpanzees in the state of Colorado. I think this the right that we test
on these animal in the state of colorado, because we can find if they are actually related to us the
humans. And if they actually cause the evolution. Also if they have any diseases with them.
furthermore we can test on other monkeys not just chimps like apes other species of monkeys too.
Why would people think it s a bad idea to test on chimpanzees in colorado. By testing the chimps we
have found many diseases and was instrumental in the development of pacemakers, cardiac valve
substitutes, and anesthetics. Chimpanzee Experimentation in the U.S. in the 21st Century Research

Key Proposals For A Small Start Up Business Essay
1Outline the key proposals contained in the budget for 2015 16 and 2016 17 that may impact on
small business owners in Australia. Identify any limitations of these proposals for a small start up
business in regional Australia.
The key proposals outlined in the 2015, 2017 and 2017 Federal Budget proposals that may impact
small businesses include tax cuts and incentives to cut red tape and encourage start ups and
entrepreneurship (Australian Government , 2016).
A tax cut of 1.5% will reduce the small business tax rate down to 28.5% for business with an
annual turnover less than $2 million (Australian Government, 2016). Unincorporated businesses
with an annual turnover less than $2 million will have a 5% rate cut. Similarly to the previous
year the 2016 2017 small business tax rate will be lowered by 1 per cent to 27.5 per cent. Also the
turnover threshold for small businesses increased from $2 million to $10million giving access to
other tax incentives. This increase was influenced due to the fact that the Australian corporate tax
rate is high by international standards and if Australia is to be competitive in the 21st century it
needs a competitive tax system (Australian Government, 2016).
Tax cuts are introduced to improve cash flows, encourage growth and competition, and assist in
employing new staff. However, this may limit small start up business in regional Australia because
should a business employ new staff and increase its turnover, the business will jump into a

Thriller Conventions In The Black Swan
Thriller conventions, being a psychological thriller director Darren Aronofosky used mainstream
thriller conventions in The Black Swan, however he at some point broke the norm with some
experimental conventions as we going to see below.
in comparison director Aronofosky used the colors black and white, these colours are often used
in thrillers, The black and white swan characters are exaggerated by the use of black and white

Camera wise Aronofsky used the thriller conventions of tilted camera angles that never offer
perfection, we see this when filming the daily grind of Nina s obsessive practice in her mother s
apartment, this is a reflection of the perfection Nina is not achieving despite her obsessive practice.
Camera shakes, on the subway when Nina stands still but the camera shakes uncontrollably, a hint
at expressing and knowing allusion to her uncontrollable insanity, Shaking in thrillers is used to
connect to lack of control, which makes thriller in The Black swan real.
Point of view, in a film where the audience is trapped in a mind of a crazed woman, Aronofsky
takes the Crazy lady genre recurrent theme set by Roman Polanski with Repulsion. A film, which
begins with an intense close up of Catherine Deneuve s eye. with the Black swans s realism and
naturism, the style doesn t only ground it in the sense of reality but also gives it a sense of
perspective. By entering Nina s dreams and constantly showing her point of view the director
created a thriller as we see the movie through her eyes , watching the action unfold through the

Dred Scott Vs. Sanford Case
The Dred Scott vs. Sanford case was a huge decision in the history of our country. Dred Scott was
a slave who was owned by the Sanford family. The Sanford family moved Scott to a Wisconsin
territory, where slavery was prohibited under the Missouri Compromise, where he lived for 4
years working on and off to raise money for him and his family s freedom. Later on, the Sanford
family moved him back to St. Louis where Scott tried to buy him and his family freedom but
was denied by the Sanford family. Scott sued the Sanford s and made a case that he and his
family lived in a free area for an extended period of time making him legally free. The state court
declared him free but the wages that Scott had were withheld by the Sanford family who then
appealed the decision to make Scott free to the Missouri Court. The Missouri Court overturned
the decision to make Scott free and ruled in favor of the Sanford s. Scott then sued the Sanford s
again for physical abuse and the court would not rule on it because they said Scott was regarded
as a slave in Missouri territory. Scott then took the case to the U.S Supreme Court where they
wouldn t take the case because Scott was or had been a slave. Justice Taney declared that federal
courts could only hear cases brought to them by citizens of the U.S and that Scott was not a citizen
because his ancestors were imported from another country and they were slaves. Taney also states
that even though states could provide their own citizenship,

Racism in Divine Wind by Gary Disher Essay
Today I want to address the issues of the novel Divine Wind authored by Gary Disher.
Throughout the novel many problems occur. Some of the main problems are racial and equality
issues. Events in this book show how prejudice and intolerance can ruin numerous friendships and
change lives.
When WWII was declared in Broome, Western Australia1939 to 1945 Japan became Australia s
enemy, Asia is approximately 3,862 miles away from the coast of Broome, due to this, people
from Asia that country looking for an escape would easily get on a boat an sail to the tip, Broome

Australia in this time was quite defensive about whom they trusted. Even Japanese Australians, they
had an issue towards them simply because the higher authorities thought they would turn on them.
Disher tries to imply his view that loyalty within the authorities was at high demand and this
portrays the distrust they held against anyone who questioned them. The judgment against the
aboriginal and Japanese people increased during the war period. An example for this would be the
name calling by the locals at the Penrose family even though they stayed loyal towards each other
and their friends.
ABORIGINAL RACISM
In the chapter Desired earth there was a discussion between Morrissey who is a military
commander, Lester Webb, Carl and Alice who takes care of derby whom is aboriginal.
The abos are going to be a liability if the japs land Morrissey to Carl
And if the abos cause trouble we can shoot them, no questions asked Lester to Alice
They all had a discussion about the foreign people and how they would turn against Australian
people, all three men made harsh statements while Alice stood up for what she believed. They as in
aboriginal and Japanese people are not bad.
JAPANESE INTERNMENT (concentration camps for Japanese people)

taxi drivers were bashed and when they would be selling their goods at markets to get money to

The Use of Manipulation; One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest
The Use of Manipulation: One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest
Throughout Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest, the use of manipulation is a re
occurring motif. Manipulation is defined as shrewd of devious management. Manipulation is put
into context by how the character s use it. The first character to master it is the antagonist Nurse
Ratchet. She uses it to manipulate patients to manage her mechanically structured ward. The other
character is the (antagonist, protagonist?) patient McMurphy. He on the other hand manipulates
people to help them grow or gain money. These two characters also go head to head with the power
of deceptive manipulation as their weapons.

If someone hears something interesting about another patient in the log book, the patient puts
down what he heard and signs his name, and the next day he gets to sleep in. The effectiveness
of the log book is evident here, through this passage, Am I to take it that there s not a man
among you that has committed some act that he has never admitted? She reached in the basket
for the log book. Must we go over the past history? That triggered something, some acoustic
device in the walls, rigged to turn on at just the sound of those words coming from her mouth.
The acutes stiffened. Their mouths opened in unison. Her sweeping eyes stopped on the first
man along the wall. His mouth worked, I robbed a cash register in a service station. She moved
to the next man. I tried to take my little sister to bed. Her eyes clicked to the next man, each one
jumped like a shooting gallery target. I one time wanted to take my brother to bed. I killed my
cat when I was six. Oh, god, forgive me, I stoned her to death and said my neighbor did it. (45)
The reader can clearly see this is one of her methods of manipulation, for she uses it to oppress the
patients and keep them down, and in need of more help .
The shock shop and lobotomy are are closely related punishment. The nurse sends patients to the
shock shop, if they are being bad , or hostile. Upon further acts of retaliation , she sends the patient
to lobotomy, where a surgery is performed in which a part of the brain is cut

Anglo Saxon society was decidedly patriarchal, but women were in some ways better off than
they would be in later times. A woman could own property in her own right. She could and did
rule a kingdom if her husband died. She could not be married without her consent and any
personal goods, including lands that she brought into a marriage remained her own property. If
she were injured or abused in her marriage her relatives were expected to look after her interests
(David Ross.) The women were responsible for grounding of grains, baking of bread, brewing of
beer, making of butter and cheese. During this era it was dangerous to travel; thus, most people
would travel only if it was unavoidable. If possible they would travel by water along the coast or
along the river. During the early Anglo Saxon period England was a very different place from
what it is today. The human population was very small. They grew their own food and made
their own clothes... The lord and kin had the strongest ties in the Anglo Saxon society. The ties of
loyalty were to the person of a lord. There was no real concept of patriotism or loyalty to a cause.
Kings could not, except in exceptional circumstances, make new laws. Their role instead was to
uphold and clarify previous custom. The first act of a conquering king was often to assure his
subjects that he would uphold their ancient privileges, laws, and customs (David Ross.) One of the
most famous kings during the

Les Miserables Redemption Essay
In the novel Les Miserables, Victor Hugo utilizes various redemptive acts to prove that redemption
impacts both the redeemed and the redeemer.
The theme of redemption appears countless times in the novel to emphasize the freedom, relief, and
healthy change that occurs when a person is redeemed. In the novel, Jean
Valjean redeems Javertby letting him go free from the barricade instead of killing him. Javert, the

It was playground time, and the happy surroundings suddenly vanished as Beth menacingly
approached me. The grimace on the girl s face was the perfect representation of her feelings for
me, utter hatred and contempt. As the tall, blonde girl moved closer at a stealthy pace I prepared
myself for what was to come; the same phrase that Beth sneered at me every day on the
playground at day care, I don t like you, Graceanne! Although Beth s hurtful remark had become
extremely routine, my heart felt a sharp pain every time she approached me with that hateful
grimace on her face. Usually I would ignore the hateful remark and walk away as if I had heard
nothing, but today was a different day. A new day with redemption at the utmost center.
As Beth approached me and uttered the daily phrase I don t like you, Graceanne I immediately
responded with words that made the grimace on Beth s face vanish forever, I like you, Beth.
The redemption that Jean Valjean lavished upon Javert is extremely similar to the redemption that I
gave to Beth. The hurtful remarks that Beth hit me with every day impacted

California Critical Thinking Skills Test
The ability to think critically, is one of the most important skills learned during anybody s higher
education experience. Critical Thinking is something we all must learn, and are constantly
improving upon. One of the most basic definitions of critical thinking is forming a decision based
on logical thought, which(which or that?) was carefully considered before forming said decision.
In recent years, critical thinking has become a popular teaching subject in academia. This is
because educators believe by teaching critical thinking, they can improve a student s ability to
succeed, not only in the class room, but in all their endeavors. Critical thinking is important,

The professors miscommunication in critical thinking teaching, can lead to a poor critical thinking
perception for students. Many professors, do not teach in a way that facilitates critical thinking
(Duron et al, 2006). Most professors use lecture based teaching methods, which do not foster critical
thinking (Duron et al, 2006). A study conducted by Nicole Stedman and Brittany Adams (2014),
sought to understand professors critical thinking concepts and personal perceptions of critical
thinking instruction . Their study included a population of professors, who taught agriculture and
life sciences. From this population 61 individuals were selected to partake in this study. This
population was broken into three segments which measured basic critical thinking ability, their
perception of critical thinking instruction, and a section which looked at their demographic.
Stedman and Adams (2014), research found that professors tend to be lacking knowledge about
critical thinking . As a result of their lack of knowledge regarding critical thinking, their perception
regarding their ability to teach critical thinking was also incorrect. Individuals cannot teach, what

Comparing Three Chaplin Movies Essay
After seeing three Chaplin films at this point in chronological order it is not hard to notice the
extreme difference from the film City Lights to Chaplin s earlier films Mabel s Predicament and
The Pawnshop . In terms of cinematography it is real easy to see the differences in these films. To
begin the cinematography is different in that in the first two films most of the shots are wide
shots and with very minimal cuts. Also the lengths of the first two films are very short Mabel s
Predicament is only 11 minutes long and The Pawnshop is 29 minutes long. The lack of cuts and
the shorter runtime of the films indicate already it is of a shorter budget because the films were
limited in terms of how much they could film. When comparing City Lights it actually is shot like

City Lights in this case advances in story in comparison to the other Chaplin films. This is done
through a full length story that also has side characters and side stories woven in seamlessly.
Previously in the other films the focus was primarily on the Tramp and only the Tramp. However,
in City Lights we focused on the Tramp, The Blind Women, and the Rich Entrepreneur allowing
for a more full length feature film with different cohesive stories. In Ewen s article City Lights:
Immigrant Women and the Rise of the Movies she focuses on three early female archetypes in
film. These archetypes are entitled the vamp, the gamine, and the virgin. The Vamp is defined as
someone who is evil and a seductress who uses the male s sympathy of her against himself. The
Gamine is defined as having many male physical characteristics specifically short hair and also
having personality traits defining them as mischievous. Finally, the Virgin is defined as someone
who is very innocent, untainted, and pure in the eyes of

  • 2. Comparing Plato s Meno And Socrates In Plato s Meno, the characters Socrates and Meno are introduced as Socrates being a teacher and Meno being a young aristocrat. Meno questioned Socrates on whether virtue is teachable, acquired through practice, or is natural. Socrates replied that he knows not what virtue is, so if he does not know, how could he know what qualities it possess. Meno jumped at the opportunity to define virtue to Socratesbut each definition is refuted. Meno and Socrates failed to reach an agreement on a definition. Meno, however, raised an important question during this debate and this sparked an interesting discussion. His question was, And how will you enquire, Socrates, into that which you do not know? What will you put forth as the subject of enquiry? And if you find what you want, how will you ever know that this is the thing which you did not know? (80e, Plato) In other words, he s asking Socrates how he knows what definition he s looking for if he does not know the qualities virtue possess as he previously stated. At the time Meno rightfully seemed skeptical about the concept of virtue because it appeared to be very paradoxical to him. Meno believed it was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He began by using the example of one s soul. Socrates says that your soul will live on forever and it cannot be destroyed or damaged unlike your body, immortal. He believed that your soul was present during the previous generations and it will be present in the generations to come. He even says your soul has been born often and has seen all things...there is nothing which it has not learned (81d, Plato). In other words, the lessons learned in the past stay forever and they are recollected in the future and applied to the knowledge that is about to be acquired. Learning and recollection go hand in hand, as one typically remembers what they have learned in the pass when acquiring new knowledge. Meno is skeptical of this theory and asks Socrates to show him what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The And The Doctrine Of Salvation Soteriology or the Doctrine of Salvation is perhaps the grandest and greatest them in Scripture. If we look at our world it s easy to see man s condition in sin. Mankind is completely helpless when the message of salvation is ignored. Our world remains shattered and town by the condition of sin, but Gods gracious rescue plan through salvation and JesusChrist will redeem us all and provide a solution to man s problems. () This union with Christ is called the magical exchange in which Christ assumes our debts and we inherit his wealth so that nothing (Horton pg.271) will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 8:39) (Horton pg. 323 324) Let s visit the different layers of salvation. In our textbook, Horton starts with the blessing of Justification. God justifies the wicked. Justification is a legal act, wherein God deems the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ s righteousness. Horton tells us on pg. 280, God justifies the wicked not those who have done their best yet have fallen short, those who might at least be judged acceptable because of the sincerity, but those who, at the very moment of being pronounced righteous, are in themselves unrighteous. This means full repentance, which is defined as such, as a change of mind, or a conversion from sin to God. And the relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that has offended God. When we accept salvation we are also testifying to God that we are a changed person from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Future As A Military Officer And My Current Life At The... This particular lesson I felt was extremely applicable to both my future as a military officer and my current life at the academy. This reading focuses on conflict among members in an organization. The reading describes common issues that lead to unhealthy conflict and how to avoid those issues. Conflict is seen as a good thing in organizations as it creates a more complete understanding of the choices, it creates a better range or options, and ultimately allows for effective decisions making. However, it needs to be effectively managed to have a successful organization. Conflictcan sometimes turn unproductive, as comments can be interpreted as personal attacks. The reading offers six tactics for managing interpersonal conflict. Of these six, I see the idea of focus on the facts as the most important. This tactic states that the more information that one can provide to a situation, the less likely conflicting viewpoints will be seen as personal attacks. This is especially true when data is objective and up to date, as numbers do not lie and they are hard to argue. I see this often at the academy when discussing possible changes in policy. Especially in situations that involve many cadets. Often, discussions are very opinion based with little factual information because cadets often do not have access to it. Because of this, these discussions often become a pointless debate. I could make the assumption that this happens in an operational Air Force setting as well. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Crime Attrition Introduction Crimes involving sexual violence are normally under reported and are less likely to end up in conviction results compared to other offences. This essay explored the reasons behind the high attrition rate for sexual crimes respectively from both the victims and the criminal justice system regards. The final finding reveals the problem base lies in the insidious social bias toward female victims in sexual crimes, which not only affect victims themselves but also the working pattern for sexual crimes in criminal justice system. Victims denial of criminal intent and serious injury as well as the victim identity often lead to non report decisions. Out of the above mentioned denials, victims can hardly form the correct conception of the criminal nature of the offending thus lead to the failure to report. To be more specific, when a victim voluntarily vague the criminal intent by find excuses for the offender and persuade himself of herself by no actual harm happening, even with the depressed self blaming thoughts haunting in mind, the victim will possibly choose to take no action after being raped or sexually assaulted because of the willing to minor the actual loss. What s more, the victims individual perception of the efficiency and effectiveness of the functioning of the criminal justice system which formed from previous contact experience or social understanding may also influence their decision making. The Value of an MBA or Business Education in Today s Competitive Arena for Entrepreneurship Engineers, self made entrepreneurs and bootstrap enthusiasts believe that the right person with the right work ethic can succeed in business with a good idea activated at the right time. However, in today s complex, collaborative and highly technical business environment, a degree in business or at least some strong business courses can give you the knowledge and tools to handle a startup like a pro and reduce the learning curve that always appears in any business startup. The Graduate Management Admission Council s Alumni Perspectives Report chronicles a rise in the number of business graduates who start their own businesses. Entrepreneurs are growing younger, better educated and committed to applying business skills to their own startup ideas. [3] Although the demands of modern marketing, software implementations and integrating software applications into sales platforms make it difficult to succeed in business without a thorough grounding in modern sales, marketing and financing techniques, experienced engineers often succeed in business without receiving formal educations on standard business practices. The United States encourages this technology boom with its West Coast IT industry headquartered in Silicon Valley and other areas. Education is a big key to business success even if it isn t limited to business courses. Engineers, coders and developers are coming up with big ideas, but it often takes people with business backgrounds to transform these ideas into practical ideas for sales and marketing. Nearly all of these alternately powered vehicles are powered by liquefied petroleum or compressed natural gas. The time to change that for the better is here and we must push our way through the red tape created by automakers so we can finally drive practical low emission cars. Ironically when both the chief executive officer of GM and Ford retired they both decided to put their effort into electronic vehicles (EVs). The EV has a strange history which all started in the 1800s. The first invention that contributed to the EV was the lead acid battery; the battery was constructed mainly of lead, copper, and an acid. Back then people had no use for an EV which was incredibly slow and wasn t rechargeable. However, a major step for fuel cells in the 1800s was by William Grove, [w]hile experimenting with electrolysis [breaking up of water into gases] in 1839, Sir. William Grove discovered that the reverse was also true. (Syndor, 57). Grove was accredited with the invention of fuel cells because of this. The most popular battery powered EV was offered by General Motors, and was on a lease only basis for about the price of a BMW, or a Lexus. The new EVs are self sustaining, so they don t need to be recharged like the battery powered vehicles. Most of the new EVs are hybrid or fuel cell powered. Nearly all EVs can accelerate ... Beginners might want to get used to shooting guns first. They also will want to figure out which brand or kind of gun you like. Other experienced shooters will just want to buy the gunof their choice. There are trap guns just for trap, or you can get a 20 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun. Before you can even cast a spell, you must be ready to believe in yourself, to learn and understand yourself, challenge your circumstances to change, and to listen while observing. But this award is not intended primarily to honor a personality, but to symbolize a great moral code a code of conduct and chivalry of those who guard this beloved land of culture and ancient descent (MacArthur). By upholding the values West Point instilled in him, the General speaks of what he has done to get to this point in his life and how these aspects have molded him into the man he is today. Ancillary statutes to the laws disappointed Jews and denied them of most political rights. The Nuremberg Laws, as they wound up known, did not characterize a Jew as somebody with specific religious convictions. Rather, any individual who had three or four Jewish grandparents was characterized as a Jew, paying little mind to whether that individual distinguished himself or herself as a Jew or had a place with the Jewish religious group. Numerous Germans who had not practised Judaism for quite a long time got themselves captured in the grasp of Nazi hatred. Indeed, even individuals with Jewish grandparents who had changed over to Christianity were characterized as Jews. The motivation behind the Nuremberg Laws was to totally isolate the Jewish populace by never again thinking about them as a religious gathering however as a race, they did this by putting facial highlights to the race . What eventually motivated me to choose the Church of Scientology is the construction of a multimillion dollar chapel and community center on E. 125th St, which is very close to my community. This is a strategic attempt to expand the Church of Scientologys base from more affluent areas to urban areas with younger people. Whenever I come home from Marist I have to take the Bx15 bus at 125th street to get across the river to the Bronx. • 16. Communist Manifesto Essay The Communist Manifesto was built with intentions to serve as a program meant for the Communist party during its time of publishing. Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, philosopher and author (titled respectively), composed the document as a form of instruction for the followers of a new congress, which is known as The Second Congress . The duo worked tirelessly throughout the final months of the year 1847 and through January of 1848, only to have a modified adaptation of their original document published in February of 1848. The Communist Manifesto acted as a symbol of victory for the newcomers to the Communist party. The authors used the document to clarify the contradictions in between various social classes and to identify various injustices in between them. Working with other people can be difficult, but I learned how to overcome those obstacles and be a more exemplary person. Also I learned, through school, that by leading a team, I am working and motivating my group. To illustrate, a precocious girl is put with a group of her peers to finish a project. In The Pearl, John Steinbeck depicts the story of Kino, a destitute Mexican Indian male who devotes his life towards his wife and newborn son. One of the many areas with significant damage is the marine biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life. The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved under these circumstances for over 50 million years. Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other marine systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and acidification has effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. I really liked the last part of this exercise; what all an individual can add to a team. Then we had a quick 5 minute session of shaking one another s hand without talking to each other. Here, we all made a mistake of not shaking the professor s hand as we all assumed him not to be a part of the exercise. Once we formed our team, we had a small exercise of making 15 paper airplane which had to travel a distance of 10 15 feet. This exercise taught us the forming part of the team model to adapt quickly in our new team, help each other and come up with a solution. • 35. The Indian Act Was Enacted In 1867 By Parliament Of Canada The Indian Act was enacted in 1867 by the Parliament of Canada. The Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development administered the act. The act defines who an Indian is and the legal rights of the Aboriginal people in Canada. Regulation of the economic system between aboriginal people and the government of Canada is included in the Indian Act. It also includes the power the ministers have on the aboriginal people including children and disabled Aboriginals. If the laws are not obeyed, the punishment is written in the act. The Indian Act was influenced by the legislative foundation of the Royal Proclamation, 1763, which recognized Aboriginals as a distinct political unit (Residential schools). The Royal Proclamation, 1763, thought that it was their duty to protect the Aboriginal people from the Canadian society. The Royal Proclamation, 1763, had the responsibility for Aboriginal affairs in Canada with British imperial authorities. However, by the mid 1800s Britain began to transfer this responsibility to Canadian colonies. Then the Canadian authorities passed the First Indian Act. Over the years many amendments have been made to the Indian Act.The Indian act passed out a law that any children under the ages of 16 had to study at Residential schools (Residential schools), the children there were physically abused, especially girls. The Trade Routes And The Spread Of Islam The Malian Trade Routes and the Impact on West Africa Through the Spread of Islam Along These Routes The trade routes of Mali are not as well known as others like the Silk Road, but they were influential in the trade of North Africa and forever influenced history. These trade routes conveyed gold, salt, and, to a lesser extent, copper to empires in the Middle East and Mediterranean. However, the most influential effect of these trade routes was the spread of Islam throughout West and Central Africa. The empire of Mali rose in the early 13th century and soon expanded. The empire controlled all of the main trade routes throughout West Africa, which are collectively referred to as the Malian trade routes. These trade routes were vital to most of the world. Berber traders from northern Africa came along these routes to get gold and salt, vital for the flavoring and more importantly the preservation of food, to trade to the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean empires. In addition, traders from northwestern Africa brought salt along these routes to major trading cities in Mali, to trade to the Berber traders and merchants from Central Africa. Mali had so much gold and the trade of gold was so important to the rest of the world that maps of the ancient world depicted Mali with a gold nugget or with a man wearing a gold crown sitting on a gold throne and holding a gold spear in one hand and a gold coin the size of his head in his other hand. • 43. The Multics Operating System Project Undertaken At The... The Multics operating system project undertaken at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the 1960s was a novel and powerful approach that helped shape the subsequent course of computing technology. In particular, Multics served as the model for utility computing and the various kinds of on demand software, platforms, and infrastructure services that exist today. Multics was the first instance of the cloud. Leaving networked computers inside, Multics also offered a novel approach to hierarchical file structures that served as a model for future security approaches. Description of Multics: From Inception to Last Instance Multics is the shortened name of the Multiplexed Information and Computing Service. Multics grew out of the idea, proposed by MIT s John McCarthy and some other computer scientists in the 1950s, that computers ought to have time sharing capabilities (Garfinkel, 1999). At the time, computers were used by one person at a time, which was economically and scientifically inefficient (Bourne, 1978). There were various demonstrations of effective time sharing on computers before the debut of Multics (Creasy, 1981). The true novelty of Multics lay in McCarthy s vision, promoted in a 1961 lecture, for computing as a utility (Steele Jr, 1975). McCarthy suggested that, in the future, computing power could be allocated among geographically dispersed users, much in the manner that an electrical utility disperses electricity to a large and geographically ... The key proposals outlined in the 2015, 2017 and 2017 Federal Budget proposals that may impact small businesses include tax cuts and incentives to cut red tape and encourage start ups and entrepreneurship (Australian Government , 2016). A tax cut of 1.5% will reduce the small business tax rate down to 28.5% for business with an annual turnover less than $2 million (Australian Government, 2016). Unincorporated businesses with an annual turnover less than $2 million will have a 5% rate cut. Similarly to the previous year the 2016 2017 small business tax rate will be lowered by 1 per cent to 27.5 per cent. Also the turnover threshold for small businesses increased from $2 million to $10million giving access to other tax incentives. This increase was influenced due to the fact that the Australian corporate tax rate is high by international standards and if Australia is to be competitive in the 21st century it needs a competitive tax system (Australian Government, 2016). Tax cuts are introduced to improve cash flows, encourage growth and competition, and assist in employing new staff.
