Essay On Periodontal Disease
Treatment of periodontal disease can be broadly divided into two, non surgical and surgical.
Longitudinal comparison between non surgical and surgical therapy had been studied extensively
by groups of researchers, namely the Gothenburg, the Michigan, the Minnesota, the Nebraska, and
the Arizona group. There are some heterogeneities between studies from different groups. Some
studies focused on single rooted teeth, while others included molars. Majority of the studies are
done in a university setting, while the Arizona study was done in private practices. From the
Gothenburg group, Lindhe et al., carried out a 14 year follow up of 61 out of initially 75 patients
after active treatment of advanced periodontal disease, being defined as... Show more content on

The author concluded that with regular periodontal maintenance, removal of root surface accretion
for better periodontal tissue attachment was more important than any surgical procedures. From the
Minnesota group, Pihlstrom et al., studied on 453 teeth, including molar teeth, of 17 patients with
moderate to advanced periodontitis. In the study, scaling and root planing was done, and one
maxillary and one mandibular quadrant of each patient received modified Widman flap. Patients
were under regular periodontal maintenance for a follow up to 6 ВЅ years. They found that in
shallow pockets (1 3mm depth), there was loss of clinical attachments, and this is consistent with
other studies; For pockets with 4 6mm depth, both non surgical and surgical methods were equally
effective in pocket depth reduction, although scaling and root planing had slightly greater clinical
attachment level gain; in deep ( 7mm) pockets, scaling and root planing showed pocket depth
reduction for 3 years, modified Widman flap showed longer reduction for up to 6 ВЅ years, and
both treatments showed effective attachment gain. Although the non molar teeth tended to respond
more favorable, the results indicated that both treatments were effective in treating periodontitis and
maintenance of clinical attachment levels on molar and non molar teeth. From the Minnesota
group, Kaldahl et al., included 82

Qohlab Reflection
I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message
Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part
this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB
version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found.
While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my
while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was
made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the
general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I
believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to
understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to
better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the
author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author
states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also,
the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that
Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their
point of view and from the wisdom

How Sports And Concussions Have On An Individual And Their...
My article covers the very important impact that sports and concussions have on an individual
and their families. Head injuries are a very serious problem as described in this article, and to
make sure that this problem is understood, we must educate our coaches, and athletes as well as
parents, of signs of concussions and head trauma. Throughout this paper I m going to summarize
the article, and then approach it from the stand point of whether or not I agree with what the
author is saying, or if I disagree with what the author is saying. The first page of the article talks
Technology and how times have juristically changed, as far as health and are ability to fix an
injury, and how back in the day injury was seen as weakness. So, it was seen as coach s
prioritizing strength and toughness over injury. (443) It also says in this article Although man
types of injuries have declined as a result of advanced technology and increased awareness,
concussions and brain related injuries continue to be an enormous problem in sports . (443, Key)
Youths in the year of 2014, roughly had 173,285 concussions and this was not in one sport, this
was in all sports. (443) This just shows that not one sport is responsible for all concussions. In a
very important case Mann v. Palmerton Area School District, the victims being the Mann s, and the
defendants being Palmerton Area Schools. The Mann s were accusing the school district that they

Moral Education and Emotional Lying Essay
Moral Education and Emotional Lying
There is a long tradition, fathered by Aristotle and recurring like some recessive gene in recent
virtue theorists, that holds that the emotions, like acts, must be trained . Consider the following:
[In Beckett s portrayal,] Emotions are not feelings that well up in some natural and untutored way
from our natural selves, that they are, in fact, not personal or natural at all, that they are, instead,
contrivances, social constructs. We learn how to feel, and we learn our emotional repertoire. We
learn emotions in the same way that we learn our beliefs from our society. (Nussbaum 1990, p287)
Emotions, in Aristotle s view, are not alwayscorrect, any more than beliefs or actions are ... Show

The problem arises, however, when we consider two agents: Agent X acts in accordance with
social demands, or, does not act (also in accordance with social demands) while considering this
merely a means to ensure such social harmony as he can get. Agent Y exhibits or does not exhibit
emotions also in accordance with social demands, while considering this also merely a means to
ensure social harmony. Neither Agent X nor Agent Y believe in what they are doing, in any sense
deeper than the wish to conform to reasonable social demands.
We can portray this situation as follows:
Agent CA conforms with respect to acting.
Agent CE conforms with respect to emoting .
Agent BA believes in his acts.
Agent BE believes in his emotions
Are Agents CA and CE not on equal footing with agents BA and BE as regards ethics, for better or
worse?
Apparently not. There is widespread dislike of Agent CE as a hypocrite, an accusation rarely
hurled against Agents CA, BA, or BE. Even Williams (1973, p224) states that simulating emotions
one does not feel could be misleading, even deceitful .
Agent CE is in a bind: if he responds as society dictates, he is a hypocrite; and if he does not, he
is a misfit or (in extreme situations) a psychopath . Agent CE has been trained in the sense that he
knows what is expected of him, and does it; and his motives are those of prudence. However,

Pretty Wom An American Romantic Comedy
Pretty Woman is an American romantic comedy produced in 1990 by Touchstone Pictures. In
the film, Vivian Ward, one of the central characters, works as a prostitute in Los Angeles,
California. Edward Lewis, a rich, businessman hires Vivian as an escort for a weeklong period,
to serve as his date to various functions and events. And over the course of the week, a
relationship between the two matures. Seeing that it focuses on the way in which a well to do,
handsome man saves and transforms a pitiable prostitute into a beautiful woman with class and
style, the movie is considered a modern day Cinderella story. Although the film has all of the
elements to be considered a wonderful love story, several issues can be identified and critiqued,
particularly those dealing with the portrayal of genderand sexual scripts.
Gender is defined as the state of being male or female. Gender consists of the assortment of
mental traits that differ between the sexes; thus, gender scripts are the behavior expectations
given to males and females. The characters in the movies either feed into or go against gender
scripts. Case in point, Edward is a wealthy businessman, and for that reason, his character feeds
into the gender script of men being breadwinners and guiders in patriarchal societies. For
instance, Edward is displayed as a savior, a hero of some sort, due to the fact that he takes Vivian
off the streets, hires her, and transforms her into a well rounded, respectable woman. Edward is also

Lucy Human Evolution
Lucy was exposed by Donald Johanson, an anthropologist, with his team, went to survey Hadar
in Ethiopia during the late 1970s for signs in understanding Human origins. On November 24,
1974 by the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided
otherwise when one of his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them
were on the hot waterless plains examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned
out to be an arm bone fragments on a slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were
found, including a jaw, arm bone, a thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously
examined the limited skeleton and calculated that a remarkable 40% of a hominid skeleton was
salvaged,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human
, as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and
the capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were
longer than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in
tree dwelling primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or
were they purely evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate.
Although Lucy s hip and knee joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans,
she was clearly able of walking on two feet, although running like a modern human was
undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that
she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern ape, evidence to a relatively low quality,
high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a thicker waist, which most likely would
have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and the shape of her torso meant she
would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human when running. All these
answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an extraordinary picture
of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking around way before
the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids have deep rooted
that conclusion. Bipedalism, it seems, was the initial stage towards becoming

Marxism In The Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath tells the bitter story of the Joad family as it struggles to survive and to
maintain its dignity in the middle of the Great Depression. But it is also the story of the social
class of people like the Joads, tenant farmers who have lost their land and decide to move to
California in hope of finding a better life. John Steinbeckwrote The Grapes of Wrath, in 1939, amid
the Great Depression, in response to the enduring he saw of individuals with disadvantages. He
wrote regarding Oklahomans that were incapable to continue farming since of the disastrous
climate conditions. Particularly, he wrote about the Joad family having to emigrate to California.
Steinbeck composed the novel from a Marxist point of view. Steinbeck is supporting Marxist
thoughts by delineating the distinction of individuals included in capitalism, as the owners take
advantage of the helpless.
In the Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, Steinbeck uses Marxist beliefs to plot the long battle
experienced by the Joad family. The Joads encounters illustrate that the Bourgeoise mishandle their
control in order to control the Proletariats, estranging and abusing their ... Show more content on

2. Naturalistic Environmental Factor for Carrie One outstanding feature of naturalism is its stress
on the influence of environment upon man s fate. According to naturalism, man is a helpless pawn,
at the mercy of the surrounding. For instance, in Janie Gerhardt, a novel written in 1911 and wildly
considered as the twin sister of Sister Carrie, Dreiser has his wealthy and seemingly impregnable
hero Lester declare those words, all of us are more or less pawns. We re moved about like

Astor Pazzolla
Astor Piazzolla is from Argentina and became a composer. He created a new tango genre called
nuevo tango which incorporates jazz into tango that also infers expanding instrumentation. Since
tango had lost in popularity around 1950s and 1960s, Piazzolla was considered to be the saviour
of tango since he created the new genre of tango. Traditional tango was for dance, not for listening.
Furthermore, it was listened and played by poor people or lower middle class people. In 1950s,
Tango started losing it s creativity and popularity. Since then, tango became things that were
listened and studied. In fact, new tango musicwas not allowed to be melodic since tango was used
for protestant and expression which means that the music has power.
Piazzolla developed the traditional tango in 1955 and it has gained popularity in upper middle
class as well as international tourists. Tango that Piazzolla developed was for listening due to its
rhythm. He transformed tango music from a functional dance style to a symbolic social statement
(Live Class session 3). Those statement represented the poor and oppressed people in Argentina as

Romance Of Tristan And Iseult By Joseph Bedier And The...
Romance stories are often thought of as tales of physical affection and love. However, from the
twelfth to the sixteenth century, romance stories fell under the genre of chivalric romance (Norton
A23). Stories of chivalric romance have a distinct tripartite structure of social integration, followed
by disintegration... [and] reintegration in a happy ending and consist of aristocratic social milieux
(A23). However, romances occurred long before the 12th century. For example, The Odyssey by
Homer is an example romance involving separation, testing and travel...and the premise of, a final
homecoming and recognition from centuries before the rise of chivalric romance (119). Stories
such as The Romance of Tristan and Iseultby Joseph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For medieval readers, romance was the genre of choice and the subtlety this genre prompted a
subcategory of romance necessitating questions related to love (Norton 11). Tristan and Isolde are
lovers bound together by the effects of the love potion, initially believed to be wine by Iseult,
however what she had found [was] not wine but Passion and Joy most sharp, and Anguish
without end, and Death (BГ©dier 38). Therefore, this book leads the reader to question if love
is a product of a strong relationship or the result of actions and situations. For example, the love
of Tristan and Iseult was a product of the love potion which caused Tristan and Iseult to love
each other with their every single sense and with their every thought, forever... (37). Because the
love of Tristan and Iseult does not have a traditional foundation, the love potion also causes the
lovers to challenge traditions about love. For example, Tristan and Iseult consummate their love
after drinking the love potion, which goes against traditions of chivalric love and more
specifically courtly love (TVtropes courtly love). Additionally, both Tristan and Iseult are willing
to give up privileges in order to live together and love each other. While speaking to Ogrin, a
hermit that often represents traditional catholic values, Tristan says that he would rather beg my
life long and live of roots and herbs with Iseult than, lacking her, be king of a wide

They talk to each other and bridge the wireless network together. They use the IEEE 802.11
standard that increases the network performance and improve air quality. The instruments in the
field send data through neighboring instruments back to the gateway device. This is used for non
critical monitoring and they do not require a fast update rate. The more the instruments the faster
the update rate, this could be as fast as one a second. There is a pitfall to these devices and that is
battery life, but this can be alleviated with adding more access points. Most of the time users get
three years battery life from their field instruments while using a one second update rates.

Heritage Differences In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Heritage Differences
In the short story Everyday Use , by Alice Walker she represents the conflicts and struggles of the
African American culture in rural Georgia around the early 1970 s. Alice Walker introduced 4
main characters; Mama and her two daughters, Maggie and Dee as well as Dee s boyfriend
Hakim a barber. Mama is the narrator of the story, she is both a mother and father to her
daughters as she is uneducated but worked years of physical labor and lives in poverty. Maggie
is the youngest daughter who s shy and lives with Mama, she lacks confidence and is unable to be
open nor make eye contact with the people talking to her. Mama s older daughter, Dee who
renamed herself as Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo is educated, determined, and confident. She
declares that she is the one who is looking at the important aspects of her family history and Mama
and Maggie aren t aware of it. Everyday Use carries many different meanings that highlight the
issue of how things are used on an everyday basis. Understanding their family African heritage
was a big concept for Dee. As Mama and Dee had two different opinions about heritage which
caused conflict about whom should keep the quilts from Maggie and Dee. Everyday Use is a
focus on the bonds women have between different generations and legacies for example, the Quilts.
Mama and Maggie see a different usefulness to the quilts compared to Dee, the quits represent
matters such as reading, race and class, among others.
Quilting in Everyday Use symbolizes family heritage. They are a history of papers in fabric that
vary over generations. They symbolize the family s history of pride, poverty and struggle. Mama
and Dee have different perspectives on what the quilts mean to the family heritage. As to Mama,
the quilts have a special significance; when she goes to touch them, she is feeling the people who
represented them, the ones who worked on them in her family. It represents the bond between
women of different generations in their family. The quilts to Mama don t only represent her
understanding of heritage but also shows how she s connected to them with her family. I took it

Final Design For The Ball Sorting Device Essay
Final Design
Our final design for the ball sorting device is composed of 5 primary components: Ramp,
separation device, dome, base, and collection device.
Separation device:
The need for a separation device came to attention as interference between the balls on the ramp
as well as the dome was observed. To avoid interference there needed to be space between the
balls. The separation device is a hollow, circular cylinder with rods inserted horizontally (parallel
to the radius and perpendicular to the height) from one side and out throughout the other, but at
different angles, with vertical spacing between the rods. This would basically function like a
pegboard; As the balls fall into the cylinder they will collide with the road and will fall onto either
side of the rod, and continue falling until they hit another rod. Each time they hit a rod there will be
a ВЅ probability for the balls to tilt towards either side. A total of of rods were inserted. A
cardboard tube was used as the cylinder and chopsticks as the rods. The materials chosen were
cheap, lightweight, and strong enough. This introduces randomness in the system as well the
slowing of the balls falling so that space between the balls are created. The balls then enter the ramp.
Ramp:
The ramp is the source of energy for the balls. Energy here is in the form of gravity, as the start of
the ramp is elevated to and it provides potential energy using the formula, where m is the mass of
the individual balls provided, h as

Feminists And Men s Rights Activists

Sixteen of these twenty will be prosecuted, but only ten will result in conviction (Shen). Of all
rape reports, only 10 percent end in conviction. Therefore, if a false accusation, which already
has a low probability of occurring, is made, it then only has a 10 percent chance of being
convicted. This 10 percent chance is likely even lower, as if the case is properly investigated, a
false accusation will not end in a conviction. False accusations are not the problem in society, but
rather sexual assault. Underreporting, paired with the increase in rape, demonstrates the growing
urgency to deal with the problem of sexual assault before it gets out of hand. Although false
accusations of rape are without a doubt a problem, they are in no way as big as the growing
problem of rape in our society. False accusations should not be society s main concern, but rather
the number of sexual assaults which occur. In the military alone, sexual assault has grown, with
about 3,000 service members reporting being sexually assaulted in 2012, but a confidential
Department of Defense survey suggests the figure is closer to 26,000 up 35 percent over 2010

Power And Control In William Shakespeare s The Tempest
In William Shakespeare s romantic comedy play, The Tempest, we witness an endless amount of
power struggles and scheming amongst characters, all in the hopes of achieving one thing:
complete control over the remote island in which they re stranded on. Throughout the play,
characters choose their allies, set targets on their enemies, and manipulate situations and one
another in an attempt to reach their end goals. Each character that strives to colonize the island
has different motives based on their place in the social hierarchy and their relationships to fellow
characters. However, each character seeking control over the island not only has their own
motives, but also their own vision for what the island could be under their sole jurisdiction. The
three main players seeking to colonize the island and make their own vision of what it could be
into a reality are Prospero, Caliban, and Gonzalo. Between these three characters we see
relationships between the colonizer, the colonized, and one character who envisions the island as
an opportunity to create the perfect society. Power and control are prominent themes in
Shakespeare s The Tempest, as the audience is faced with severe questions of morality and who has
rightful claim of the island.
As the play begins, we learn of the master/servant relationships that are already in place on the
island. Prospero is the current all powerful and omnipotent ruler of the island, who uses strategical
social tactics of abuse and manipulation

Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay
The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of
increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and
development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is
critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the
increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brainis
not achieved solely by physical exerciseor mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between
physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher
cognitive functioning of the mindas well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to
make an overall healthy individual.
The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving
memory and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that
physical exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The
way they measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s
hippocampus and levels of BDNF. The control group in this experiment completed stretching/toning
exercises while the experimental group did aerobic exercise; the experimental group ended up
having a larger hippocampus volume than when starting out, as well as higher levels of BDNF; the

Electronic Computers And Their Components
Electronic computers and their components are very complicated pieces of hardware and would be
impossible to completely explain every single intricacy in one essay. Although complicated they
can be explained but only one piece of hardware at a time so the best option to start would be
explaining the unit that has its hand in everything in a computerand that is known as the Central
Processing Unitalso known as CPU. In a modern computer are 6 main components that are
required for a computer to work. These components are the Motherboard, Central Processing Unit
(CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), Random Access Memory (RAM), Hard Disk Drive
(HDD) or Solid State Drive (SSD), and the Power Supply Unit (PSU). The motherboard acts as a
highway for every component to interact with each other. The CPU processes data and
determines what to do with it. Everything done on a computer will have to travel through the
CPU at some point as the CPU acts as traffic control on the highway. The GPU is in charge of
processing everything visual or different mathematical assets such as Floating Point Operations
and many more. Everything you see on the screen was processed by the GPU. RAM is
temporary memory to be used by the CPU when the computer is powered on. Open programs
any other software store its memory in the RAM while they are being used. RAM is used because
it is much faster than using an HDD or SSD. In some cases when the CPU and GPU are combined

The Lines By Jodi Picoult And Samantha Vanleer
For this portion of my summer assignment, I read Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and
Samantha VanLeer. I have selected twelve important and meaningful passages from the novel as
well as a Quote of the Book . Between the Lines is about a girl, Delilah, and a book character,
Oliver, that despite the limits of the story, connect and can even speak to one another. Oliver had
never felt as if he d belonged in his book and dreaded living the same plot over and over every
single time someone opened his book. So, he asked Delilah to help him get to her world and
leave the book. After many failed attempts, Delilah, with the help of a boy named Edgar, is able
to get Oliver out of the book, but only because Edgar willingly switches places with Oliver.
Finally, the passages I have selected are ones that are important, if not necessary to the book,
and it was difficult to only select thirteen total. My first selected passage is from pages nineteen
and twenty. I did not write the lines I speak; they were given to me long before I remember. I
mouth the words, but the actual sound is in the Reader s mind, not coming from my throat.
Similarly, all the moves that we make as if we re performing a play somehow unravel across
someone else s imagination. It is as if the action and sound on our tiny, remote stage are being
broadcast in the thoughts of the Reader. I m not sure that I ever really learned this information it s

Memory Retrieval Essay
Memory retrieval is likely to be good after repeated testing of that material. In fact, practising
retrieval has a larger effect on memory than revising the information (Hockley, 2009).
Another factor that influences the quality of retrieved information is the way one studied the
material. As such, material that was studied over a number of sessions and contexts has more
chance of being retrieved correctly after a period of time than the material that has been studied
over one long session (Bjork, 2001). The spacing between the sessions should not be too big or
too little, as in case it is too big the person might simply forget the material he already studied, and
in case it is too little the spacing effect would not work. Overall, spacing is important for long term
retention, whilst cramming over one long session works for short term memory.
Another thing that matters is the information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Context cues play a major role in memory retrieval, and might vary from the room, smell, or
sounds (Eich, 1980). Academic implications of this finding might be studying in a silence, as
exams are usually conducted in a silence. One of the important context cues is if a person
consumed some substances while studying and while taking an exam. According to Carter and
Cassady (1998) that is true for caffeine, as well as other substances such as nicotine for example, if
one was smoking while studying, injection of nicotine in the system might later trigger the memory.
It is also true for cocaine and amphetamines. Additionally, Adan and Serra Grabulosa (2010) found
that a combination of caffeine and glucose helps memory consolidation; therefore, studying that is
combined with consuming of those substances would lead to a better information recall. Obviously,
one has to think of health consequences and avoid drugs, as well as limit his caffeine, nicotine and
glucose

Mary Shelly s The Novel Of Frankenstein
The novel Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelly and was first published in 1818 anonymously.
Then, revised edition of the novel was published with the preface written by her husband, Percy
Bysshe Shelly. As, this novel was first published namelessly, many people thought that the man,
who wrote the preface, Percy Shelly, was the author of the book. Consequently, there are few
disagreements about the authorship of Frankenstein. Many people refuse to accept that Mary Shelly
is the real author of Frankenstein. As per Mary, her husband has encouraged her to write this
novel and has edited her novel as well. However, many people still question about the amount of
contribution into the novel by Percy Shelly. Many critics claim that Frankenstein is a masterpiece.
Then they question how an eighteen years old girl, who has self studied, could come up with this
horror, imaginative and hideous ideas as in this novel. However, I disagree with all these beliefs
and questions about the authorship of Frankenstein and I strongly believe that Mary Shelly is the
only author of this novel.
Firstly, Mary Shelly becomes familiar with the writings of the famous radical writers in her young
age, which motivate her to write novels. The article by Wilson Quarterly highlights the ability of
Mary Shelly to write novels at her early age and comments that, Mary Shelly, however was no
ordinary 18 old girl. Daughter of anarchist philosopher William Godwin and feminist Mary

Feminist Perspective On Criminology
The following essay will seek to present an insightful discourse on the made contributions by
feminist s perspective in the grounds of criminology. It will exemplify how the perspective has
been enhanced our understanding on women as victims and perpetrators of crime. It will also
critically analyze the impact it has. I will attempt to discuss different branches of criminologysuch
as, biological, social, psychological, liberal and radical feminism.
Feminism is a controversial issue and topic. The late 1960 into the early 1970s witnessed the
emergence of feminist criminology; it has been attributed to the second wave of feminism the
helped to project issues affecting women in regards to crime in the public domain (Lawteacher.net,
2018). There are different types of theoretical perspectives of feminism e.g. liberal, radical,
Marxist, Socialist and Black. The issues regarding women and crime were mainly discussed
from proportionate views from men. Highly critical of traditional criminology as there is a lack
of research into female offending as well as victimization, which was particularly male violence
against women. It also focuses upon male offending and criminal justice system. Lombroso and
Ferrero were two of the first criminologists to look at female criminals. Both their research was
mainly focused on the biological assessment of facial appearances. Lombroso argued that females
commit less crime as they are less developed than males in masculinity. He believed that

A new entrant to the airline industry does not have any trouble with their distribution channels, as
the only distribution required is that of marketing their service, which is open to any company who
wishes to do so.
In the case of Virgin Blue there was no cost disadvantage because Virgin Atlantic had been
operating for many years and so the company was aware of how to operate an airline business and
Qantas did not have a great deal of advantage over them in the industry. Unfortunately n the airline
industry any one who wishes to enter is required to invest a great deal of money, as it is an
expensive industry. The economies of scale and capital requirements may deter new business who
are just starting to enter but an existing business such as the Virgin empire are able to invest the

The biggest challenge facing any new entrants and Virgin Blue is competing with the brand
identification of Qantas and the following that they have from the Australian public. When Virgin
Blue first entered the market they were also competing with Ansett for customers and since the
collapse of Ansett, Virgin Blue and Qantas had to compete for their customers. Qantas has

The Gross Clinic Painting Analysis
In this essay I will be depicting and comparing two of the most well known anatomical paintings
of all time. The first painting is The Gross Clinic by Thomas Eakins an oil painting canvas from
1875 drew in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The second painting is The Anatomy Lesson by
Rembrandt is also an oil paintingcanvas but drew in 1632 the Dutch Baroqueera. Both paintings
depict surgeons at work dissecting features of dead bodies for experimental studies for groups of
fellow surgeons and students.
Among some of the most famous paintings of the Dutch Baroque era, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr.

In this painting the bright red blood colors from the surgeon s fingers and scalpel, and the
gruesome fresh incision is fascinating, as well as repulsive, and confusing since it is so hard to
read the detailed position of the patient s body. Never the less some viewers admired Eakins s
precision of detailed composition, color, and praised his convincing creation space as well as
form, although many were revoked by what was considered inartistic and horribly disgusting
realism. Where as in The Anatomy Lesson it has been pointed out several times that this
painting does not actually depict the dissection taking place in real life. There are many details
that point this out. For one in the scene there does not seem to be a crowd in the anatomy theater
as we would normally see in a real depiction. The second point is that in all of Amsterdam
anatomy lessons there is an abundance of the lack of instruments for the dissection taken place,
also there is an absence of the preparator who has the task of preparing the body for the lesson
that will be taking place. This was considered to be a low end and bloody task, which Dr. Tulp
would not be expected to take care of. Finally the dissection itself is very unrealistic in which this
is before any available preservation methods for the dead, the abdomen, which were most perishable

Frye Double Bound
It can be interpreted that Frye believes that the double bind goes beyond simple circumstantial
situations and finds its way into female oppression within everyday life. The double binds are
able to control what some women believe and do within their own lives. These double binds are
what construct social ideals and mold minorities into controlled groups. Frye describes these
oppressive acts as such, The experience of oppressed people is that the living of one s life is
confined and shaped by forces and barriers which are not accidental or occasional and hence
avoidable, but are systematically related to each other in such a way as to catch one between and
among them and restrict or penalize motion in any direction. It is the experience of... Show more

As one can imagine, neither perspective is healthy when solely relied on; a combination of both
perspectives allows a person to see both the entire picture while evaluating the smaller facets
that make up the larger issue. Frye writes about how these views correlate to how people view
oppression, It is now possible to grasp one of the reasons why oppression can be hard to see and
recognize: one can study the elements of an oppressive structure with great care and some good
will without seeing the structure as a whole, and hence without seeing or being able to understand
that one is looking at a cage and that there are people there who are caged, whose motion and
mobility are restricted, whose lives are shaped and reduced (12). In lieu of the aforementioned
statement and the quote that has followed it, one can see that Frye believes that these perspectives,
particularly the microscopic view is quite harmful as it prevents people from seeing the big picture

How Did Galileo Galilei Support The Heliocentric
The Catholic Church was extremely powerful and influential in their communities which supported
the theory of a geocentric, or Earth centered, universe. During Galileo s time, people believed that
the Earth was the center of the universe and the Sun and planets revolved around it. Galileo Galilei
s discovery of the heliocentric theory strengthened Galileo s belief in Copernicus theory that Earth
and all the other planets revolved around the Sun. Once Galileo presented the heliocentric theory,
the Catholic Church believed Galileo could not be a devoted Catholic and a scientist at once. The
Church was infuriated with Galileo s book about the discovery so they decided to set a trial

Severe Acne Vulgaris
In today s day and age, many people, from infants to young children to middle aged adults, suffer
from acne. According to the Canadian Dermatology Association, acne is the most common
skincare problem addressed by doctors (2016). Generally speaking, acne comes in many different
forms such as white heads, black heads, cysts, pimples, and different bumps on the skin affecting
people of all ages.
Acne Vulgaris, otherwise understood as the medical name of acne, is a well known chronic
disorder that is associated with increased sebum secretion, according to the National Library of
Medicine (2013).

This finally leads to an inflammatory response seen as papules, pustules, and nodules. The
bacterium also causes the formation of free fatty acids, which are irritants, increasing the

Severe acne with associated systemic signs and symptoms, such as fever, is referred to as acne
fulminans. Severe acne, characterized by multiple comedones, without the presence of systemic
symptoms, is known as acne conglobata. This severe form of acne typically heals with lasting
scars. Local symptoms of acne vulgaris may include pain, tenderness, or even erythema (Informed
Health, 2013).
Although acne is seen to only affect the main organ, the skin, different systems of the body are
affected in unison, including the endocrine system, immune system, circulatory system, nervous

damage. Many can develop lasting scarring from the skin irritations including atrophic scars,
hypertrophic scars, and keloid scars. While the experience of acne may not be deemed as life

deserted islands. But that is exactly what you can see any given night on television now. This
newest form of television programming fad is the reality television genre. Reality television is now
on every station, every night, everywhere. The web page Fact Monster credits the beginning of
reality TV as beginning around 2000 when a little reality game show called Who wants to be a
Millionaire hit television screens. Millionaire saw the rebirth of game shows but also started the
most popular television genre in years. Some say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not actual reality, because actual reality is boring, and in actual reality people aren t eating weird
stuff or living on desert islands. But these shows are a form of reality suitable to make fairly
interesting TV.
When thinking about reality TV and its rise to popularity there are two shows that come to
mind. The first is the creative Survivor. Survivor is an hour long show that came on in 2000 on
Thursday nights at 9:00 PM on CBS and quickly became one of the networks highest rated
shows. Hosted by Jeff Provst, the smug, good looking yet rugged host, the gimmick of Survivor
is that 20 people are deserted in the wild in two groups that they call tribes and are forced to
build shelter, provide food for themselves and then every week participate in a challenge to win
immunity. Those who do not win immunity are then open to be voted off by the tribe. The final
person to not get voted off receives 1 million dollars and fifteen minutes of fame.
Another show that helped cement the reality TV genre is NBC s Fear Factor, a usually half hour
show which shows on any night where a push in the adult 18 49 demographic is needed. Fear
Factor is the show that comes to mind when thinking of reality TV and eating. Joe Rogan hosts the
show; a muscle bound semi celebrity who is

The Shallows Rhetorical Analysis Essay examples
The Shallows Rhetorical Analysis
In the book The Shallows , Nicholas Carr develops his argument just as an architect would construct
a building. The foundation is laid then in tedious and eloquent manner, he begins an argument that
defines the book. Shedding light upon the dangers our society may encounter through the internet,
Carr uses personal anecdotes, parallels, ethic and reason based arguments, and disguises himself as
an authoritative figure to execute a view changing book.
Exerting personal anecdotes on the way the internet has changed him; Carr begins his book in a
subtle manner. He begins describing one of his first dilemma s, I had become trapped, not

Anything but non existent, the parallel suggests that technology is having a definite change on our
plastic brains. New technologies mold us to their likings whether we adhere to them or not. And as
mechanical clocks were not manufactured to spur the adoption of a more scientific mode of
thinking , the internet is not intended to create more adverted, shallow thinking humans. But all
behaviors prevailing show that it is. Acknowledging this fact, readers can either begin to challenge
that their life is being changed or affirm the conclusion. This parallel is exactly the strategy needed
to convince readers that it s an invention s intellectual ethic that has the most profound effect on us.
Before entering the final crest of Carr s gist, he reasons that many are bound to experience the
negative effects of the Net because of its versatility and resilience. Carr state s Although mildly
disorienting at first, I quickly adjusted to the Kindle s screen and mastered the scroll and page
turn buttons. Nevertheless, my eyes were restless and jumped around as they do when I try to read
for a sustained time on the computer. The uniqueness of the Kindle brought on new changes in the
way Carr was able to read, and describes the effects of reading on the device as distracting. He then
explains about the internet, When the Net absorbs a medium, it re creates that medium in its own
image. It not only dissolves the medium s physical

The First Law Of Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics is the study of heat and energy transfer, more specifically how heat transfer
relates to energy changes within a system. The laws of thermodynamics were developed to
predict and outline behaviors of thermodynamic processes (5). The First Law of
Thermodynamics states that the change in a system s internal energy is equal to the difference
between heat added to the system from its surroundings and work done by the system on its
surroundings (5). The idea behind this is conservation of energy, meaning all energy in and out
of a system must be accounted for. If energy is added to a system in the form of heat, it must be
used. If heat is added to a system, the system either performs work (an exothermic process) or
changes internal energy (an endothermic process) (4). Enthalpy, a thermodynamic potential, is
the measure of the energy within this system. The change in enthalpy, H, must be measured in
order to find out how energy is transferred throughout a system. If H has a positive value, the
system is endothermic and it will keep the added heat, increasing its internal energy. If H has a
negative value, it means the system lost heat or did work when energy was put into the system,
so the system is exothermic (3). Gibbs Free Energy, G, is the maximum amount of energy or
enthalpy available to do work. The decrease in Gibbs Free Energy is equivalent to the work done
by a system to its surroundings, excluding pressure work (5). A negative G is required for a

The Characteristics Of Generation X And Generation
Chapter Two
Introduction Purpose
Motivation is the word derived from the word motive which means, needs, desires, wants or
drives within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to action to accomplish the
goals. In the work goal context the psychological factors stimulating the people s behavior can be
desire for money, success, recognition, job satisfaction, teamwork, etc. (Bolles, R. C. 1975.) We
have certain needs or wants these terms will be used interchangeably, and this causes you to do
certain thing s behavior, which satisfy those needs satisfaction, and this can then change which
needs/wants are primary either intensifying certain ones, or allowing you to move on to other ones.
People seem to have different wants. In chapter two we take a look at various characteristics of
Generation X and Generation starting with their backgrounds (Bolles, R. C. 1975).
Review of the Literature
Generation X
Gen Xers learned independence early in life and turned it into a valuable hallmark as they
progressed in the working world. Just as Gen Xers were about to hit the workforce to make their
mark in the world, the economic decline at the end of the 1980s occurred. ( Managing generation
X: How to bring out the best in young talent, 2001) Suddenly the future looked crowded.
Competition for jobs was tight. The American dream had changed. For the first time in history, this
generation was being told that they would not be able to replicate the lifestyles of

Chronic Wasting Disease Management Case Study
As stated previously, the accurate and factual information regarding Chronic Wasting Disease is
important to further gain an understanding among the many stakeholders of the degree of risks of
CWD and more so, to gain support for CWD management. The failure to keep Texas Landowners,
hunters and many other groups informed of the CWD with most recent facts could impact how
these individuals see the disease management strategies (CWD Management Plan, 2015).
The approach to tackling this disease has successful has been displayed in many strategies. One
possible attempt that has been established is the Eradication Attempt in which The state of New
York identified CWD in two different captive herds during a routine surveillance that took place...

Likewise, 1,200 deer were collected within the Disease Zone during 2011 winter as well as 2,300
samples from hunters of deer that had been harvested the following fall and no positive result were
identified of CWD (CWD Management Plan, 2015). Another Solution is the Control Attempt where
states like Wyoming, Colorado, Wisconsin, where CWD has been around for several years, would
not want to consider the Eradication Attempt as a course of action. The Control Attempt is to
strictly focused on reducing the migration of free ranging or captive deer also from CWD infected
areas, which could greatly reduce the spread. In the Control Attempt, some states have paired up
with hunters to monitor the prevalence, distribution, and managing of deer and elk population to
meet the requirements of the CWD objectives (CWD Management Plan, 2015). A third solution is
the Outreach Attempt, which has been a well developed and educated plan that is perceived as a
critical component of CWD management to help keep Texas Hunters and the general public well
informed of most factual information about CWD. This attempt to increase the awareness and
implication of this disease by networking with natural resource professionals and strongly
encouraging them to schedule Chronic Wasting Disease presentations with the wildlife, hunting, or

EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES FOR VOCABULARY EXPANSION

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction The limits of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I have
words for. Ludwig Wittgenstein Active communication in English is what counts in today s
globalized world. It is very important to have large deposit of words. O Connor explained why
large vocabularies characterize executives and possibly outstanding men and women in other fields.
The final answer seems to be that words are the instruments by means of which men and women

This theory states that Human cognition is unique in that it has become specialized for dealing
simultaneously with language and with non verbal objects and events. Moreover, the language
system is peculiar in that deals directly with linguistic input and output (in the form of speech or
writing) while at the same time serving a symbolic function with respect to non verbal objects,
events, and behaviors. Any representational theory must accommodate this dual functionality. Dual
coding theory complements a dual route theory of reading. When people read written information,
dual route theory contends that the readers access orthographic and phonological information to
recognize words in the writing. The theory assumes that there are two cognitive subsystems, one
specialized for the representation and processing of non verbal objects/events (i.e. imagery), and
the other specialized for dealing with language. Dual coding theory identified three types of
processing: (1) representational, the direct activation of verbal or non verbal representations. (2)
referential, the activation of the verbal system by the non verbal system or vice versa and (3)
associative processing, the activation of representations within the same verbal or non verbal
system. A given task may require any or all of the three kinds of processing. Formalization of the
theory of dual coding is

Diesel Engines Are The Best
My dad and I have always argued about which type of engine was better. My dad thinks that gas
engines are the best. I think that diesel engines are the best. The diesel engine has a better design
for all around usability than a gas engines. First, the weight of diesel engines are on average is
1,100 pounds. The engine has to be built stronger, because the compression ratio is a lot higher.
As it runs, the pistons compress air to an extreme heat, and as it reaches top dead center, the fuel
is injected into the combustion chamber. The fuel being injected directly in the hot air results in
a highly destructive explosion that drives the piston down creating power. In addition, it makes
the iconic diesel knock sound. Gas engines are built weaker because the compression ratio is
lower. If a gas engine had the same compression ratio as a diesel, it would not even start to run
because it would blow up at idle. The gasoline engine has spark plugs that ignites the fuel. They
don t need to compress air to an extreme heat like the diesels do. As the pistons travel up, the air
fuel mixture is introduced into the combustion chamber. The air fuel mixture just sits there for a
split second, and then the plug sparks and ignites the fuel. This is why the gasoline engines are
lighter than diesel. In addition, the weight of a diesel enginealso effects the usable power band. The
power band is at what rotation per minute (RPM) the power kicks in. RPM is how fast the
crankshaft is spinning in

Essay On John Andre
Throughout history, there are moments that become pivotal points for major outcomes. The
capturing and hanging of John Andre was one of these pivotal moments. A British Major who
spied on the Americans and tried to close off the New England from the rest of the colonies,
Andre was a man willing to do anything for his country. John Andre was born on May 2, 1750 in
London. He was the son of Huguenots. He attended the University of Geneva in Switzerland
where he studied mathematics and military drawing. He also had a fondness for the arts and took
up ballroom dancing and the flute. He was being groomed to take over his father s business, but
when his father passed away, John took his inheritance and moved. After a failed proposal to the...

By 1780, Andre, who was 28, continued to impress Clinton and after a victory in South Carolina
Clinton appointed Andre to chief military intelligence officer. As the intelligence officer, Andre
had to keep relationships open between British spies and the Loyalists who lived in America.
For more than a year, Andre was conspiring with American General Benedict Arnold. Arnold, a
soldier hurt in battle and never properly compensated by the Army, considered flipping on the
Americans as a way out of the situation he was in. Peggy Shippin kept in contact with Andre
throughout these years and Andre asked Shippin for help to persuade Arnold to flip. Shippin
and Arnold got to know each other and eventually married. She told Arnold how he was not
being treated fairly by the Americans and that Britain would be able to offer him more. Arnold
agreed with his wife and eventually made plans with Andre to sabotage America. Clinton had
Andre set up a meeting with Arnold to retrieve plans of what West Point s set up was. The idea
was to gain control of the Hudson River cutting New England off from the rest of the colonies.
The theory was whoever controlled the Hudson had the power as it traveled down to New York
and was a clear line of trade and communication among the Americans. Arnold, who was a loose
cannon for the Americans at this point and met Andre in Haverstraw, New York. He gave Andre
plans that

Apush Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The British Atlantic World, 1660 1750
In June 1744, the Iroquois and representatives from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania met in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania to resolve conflicts and negotiate on agreements. These meetings were
called the Covenant Chain.
At Lancaster, British colonists forced the Iroquois to agree to land agreements, and they also
forced the Iroquois to assist them in a war against the French, to which the Iroquois, like Onondaga
orator Canassatego, were forced to say yes.
Similar to the French and Spanish colonies, the British allied with Native Americans to gain power
in North America. Meanwhile, many Native American groups grouped together in what the British
called tribes in order to counter population decline and have some political power. The colonies
were mostly autonomous and part of the South Atlantic System, which brought them economic
growth.
Colonies to Empire, 1660 1713
England governed its colonies loosely before 1660, but after 1660, when the monarch was brought
back, England tried to reinforce order in the colonies and allied with Native Americans to fight
against other European countries.
The Restoration Colonies and Imperial Expansion
Charles II (reigned 1660 1685) helped to grow English power in the Americas and Asia through
marriages, alliances, and land grants, essentially taking over land that other nations had once owned.

The Pathogenesis Of Dnase
In addition to producing these enzymes and toxins, S. pyogenes can produce DNase s. DNase s
are enzymes that will breakdown our genetic material, also known as DNA.(1) If DNA is broken
down, the host cells will lose their ability to produce normal proteins. Each of the virulence
factors above allow the pathogen to harm it s host in one form or another or to subtly evade the
hosts adaptive immune defence. With the help of these virulence factors, the pathogen gains an
upper hand and can initiate an infection. Some of these virulence factors provide assistance in
causing a smaller degree infection and others can be responsible for causing life threatening
diseases (1). Many of the extracellular products S. pyogenes produces such as toxins however...

pyogenes are not common if treated within an appropriate time period. Some common
complications that could arise however are cervical lymphadenitis, peritonsillar (retropharyngeal
abscess), sinusitis, otitis media, meningitis, bacteraemia, endocarditis and pneumonia. (7)
Abscesses are the accumulation of pus within an inflamed area. Otitis media is when parts of the
middle ear are inflamed causing problems with your auditory abilities. Meningitis is inflammation
of the meninges layer protecting the brain. Bacteraemia is the spread of bacteria within an
individuals blood. Endocarditis occurs when the endocardium layer of the heart is inflamed. (6)
Most of these complications arise when the pathogen spreads into deeper layers within our body
through lymphatic fluid or blood (7). An important complication that is usually caused by a
erythrogenic toxin. This toxin acts as a superantigens and can be present the first time someone
encounters this ifection. Symptoms of Scarlet fever are pink rash on the superficial layers of the
skin, strawberry tongue that is inflamed and a fever. Further complications following scarlet fever
are glomerulonephritis and rheumatic fever. Glomerulonephritis effects the kidneys and causes
inflammation. Rheumatic fever effects the heart and is not infectious. When an individual has
rheumatic fever, antibodies produced to the pathogenic antigen cross react with our own tissues,
specifically heart tissue. This

Feminist Perspective In The K-12 Art Education Curriculum
A clearly defined Black feminist perspective cannot be found in the K 12 art education curriculum
at this time. Although several articles from Wanda Knight and Jessie Whitehead have discussed the
importance of including a Black feminist and woman of color perspective, nothing definitive can be
found in the current art education curriculum. Through the use of Charles Mills theory of
revisionist ontology, I will discuss the importance and value of including a Black feminist
perspective in the K 12 art education curriculum.
Overview of K 12 Art Education and the Need A Feminist Perspective in Art
Art education has many facets that are beneficial to art students. In the field of art education,
aesthetics (as in the philosophy of art) attends to the development of critical thinking skills and
philosophical inquiry through classroom dialogue (Ambush, 2008, p.14). In art education, the
student has the opportunity to understand and learn visual aesthetics, cognitive, motor, emotional,
social, and artistic skills to express critical thinking, sensitivity, and cultural identity (SchoГ±au,
2013). In An Exploration of the Issue of Stereotyping in the Artroom, Sheng Kuan Chung (2008)
examines the issue of stereotypes and claims art education offers students the opportunity to
examine prejudiced or unjust social practices that permeate society and to confront such practices
from a critical point of view (p. 24). Analyzing the concept of race and gender stereotypes is critical,

How Jesus Christ Fulfilled The Covenants God Made With...
Introduction
Throughout the history of the world, God has been working to bring humanity back to him. Due to
the loss of constant communion in the fall, God set forth multiple promises to eventually establish
his eternal Kingdom, the New Testament, is the culmination of these promises. The Gospels are the
most specific in how Jesus Christ fulfilled the covenants God made with Abraham and David.
More importantly he is the fulfillment of the new covenant, which washes away sin and brings
humanity back into communion with God. What is modeled in the Gospels is reaffirmed in
Acts, by the way the church is to function according to the culmination of the Covenants. Acts
begins to reveal the great mystery that is the inclusion of the Gentiles in God s covenant. Paul s
Epistles take the culmination a step further and defend the idea that the fulfillment of God s
covenants does not just affect the people of Israel, but the Gentiles as well. The General epistles
teach that the people are no longer bound by the mosaic covenant since the New Covenant was
fulfilled via Jesus Christ. Yet practice of the law is still an important factor of the Christian life
style even if superseded by the New Covenant. Revelation shows that covenants are leading up to
the lord s victory and salvation of his people. The sins of the Jews and Gentiles are washed away by
Jesus the blood of the lamb so in reality the battle is already won because of the New Covenants
fulfillment in Jesus. It is clear from

Thelma And Louise Compare And Contrast
The two movies I am going to compare are Thelma Louise and North Country. The sexual
harassments to women both happened in these two movies, but the solutions of the main characters
were different, and the outcomes of them were disparate, therefore, I wondered how did the main
characters in each movie responded to the sexual harassment, and if it is different, why was it? By
focusing on the different situations and personalities of the characters, especially Thelma and Josey,
I m going to compare and analyze the motivations that lead them to make such decisions and the
ways that they dealt with the harassments. Firstly, I want to compare the scenes that happened
before Thelma and Josey were sexually harassed and analyze their similarities.... Show more content

  • 2. Essay On Periodontal Disease Treatment of periodontal disease can be broadly divided into two, non surgical and surgical. Longitudinal comparison between non surgical and surgical therapy had been studied extensively by groups of researchers, namely the Gothenburg, the Michigan, the Minnesota, the Nebraska, and the Arizona group. There are some heterogeneities between studies from different groups. Some studies focused on single rooted teeth, while others included molars. Majority of the studies are done in a university setting, while the Arizona study was done in private practices. From the Gothenburg group, Lindhe et al., carried out a 14 year follow up of 61 out of initially 75 patients after active treatment of advanced periodontal disease, being defined as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author concluded that with regular periodontal maintenance, removal of root surface accretion for better periodontal tissue attachment was more important than any surgical procedures. From the Minnesota group, Pihlstrom et al., studied on 453 teeth, including molar teeth, of 17 patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. In the study, scaling and root planing was done, and one maxillary and one mandibular quadrant of each patient received modified Widman flap. Patients were under regular periodontal maintenance for a follow up to 6 ВЅ years. They found that in shallow pockets (1 3mm depth), there was loss of clinical attachments, and this is consistent with other studies; For pockets with 4 6mm depth, both non surgical and surgical methods were equally effective in pocket depth reduction, although scaling and root planing had slightly greater clinical attachment level gain; in deep ( 7mm) pockets, scaling and root planing showed pocket depth reduction for 3 years, modified Widman flap showed longer reduction for up to 6 ВЅ years, and both treatments showed effective attachment gain. Although the non molar teeth tended to respond more favorable, the results indicated that both treatments were effective in treating periodontitis and maintenance of clinical attachment levels on molar and non molar teeth. From the Minnesota group, Kaldahl et al., included 82 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Qohlab Reflection I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found. While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also, the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their point of view and from the wisdom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Sports And Concussions Have On An Individual And Their... My article covers the very important impact that sports and concussions have on an individual and their families. Head injuries are a very serious problem as described in this article, and to make sure that this problem is understood, we must educate our coaches, and athletes as well as parents, of signs of concussions and head trauma. Throughout this paper I m going to summarize the article, and then approach it from the stand point of whether or not I agree with what the author is saying, or if I disagree with what the author is saying. The first page of the article talks Technology and how times have juristically changed, as far as health and are ability to fix an injury, and how back in the day injury was seen as weakness. So, it was seen as coach s prioritizing strength and toughness over injury. (443) It also says in this article Although man types of injuries have declined as a result of advanced technology and increased awareness, concussions and brain related injuries continue to be an enormous problem in sports . (443, Key) Youths in the year of 2014, roughly had 173,285 concussions and this was not in one sport, this was in all sports. (443) This just shows that not one sport is responsible for all concussions. In a very important case Mann v. Palmerton Area School District, the victims being the Mann s, and the defendants being Palmerton Area Schools. The Mann s were accusing the school district that they didn t take the right actions when their son was hit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Moral Education and Emotional Lying Essay Moral Education and Emotional Lying There is a long tradition, fathered by Aristotle and recurring like some recessive gene in recent virtue theorists, that holds that the emotions, like acts, must be trained . Consider the following: [In Beckett s portrayal,] Emotions are not feelings that well up in some natural and untutored way from our natural selves, that they are, in fact, not personal or natural at all, that they are, instead, contrivances, social constructs. We learn how to feel, and we learn our emotional repertoire. We learn emotions in the same way that we learn our beliefs from our society. (Nussbaum 1990, p287) Emotions, in Aristotle s view, are not alwayscorrect, any more than beliefs or actions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem arises, however, when we consider two agents: Agent X acts in accordance with social demands, or, does not act (also in accordance with social demands) while considering this merely a means to ensure such social harmony as he can get. Agent Y exhibits or does not exhibit emotions also in accordance with social demands, while considering this also merely a means to ensure social harmony. Neither Agent X nor Agent Y believe in what they are doing, in any sense deeper than the wish to conform to reasonable social demands. We can portray this situation as follows: Agent CA conforms with respect to acting. Agent CE conforms with respect to emoting . Agent BA believes in his acts. Agent BE believes in his emotions Are Agents CA and CE not on equal footing with agents BA and BE as regards ethics, for better or worse? Apparently not. There is widespread dislike of Agent CE as a hypocrite, an accusation rarely hurled against Agents CA, BA, or BE. Even Williams (1973, p224) states that simulating emotions one does not feel could be misleading, even deceitful . Agent CE is in a bind: if he responds as society dictates, he is a hypocrite; and if he does not, he is a misfit or (in extreme situations) a psychopath . Agent CE has been trained in the sense that he knows what is expected of him, and does it; and his motives are those of prudence. However,

  • 7. Pretty Wom An American Romantic Comedy Pretty Woman is an American romantic comedy produced in 1990 by Touchstone Pictures. In the film, Vivian Ward, one of the central characters, works as a prostitute in Los Angeles, California. Edward Lewis, a rich, businessman hires Vivian as an escort for a weeklong period, to serve as his date to various functions and events. And over the course of the week, a relationship between the two matures. Seeing that it focuses on the way in which a well to do, handsome man saves and transforms a pitiable prostitute into a beautiful woman with class and style, the movie is considered a modern day Cinderella story. Although the film has all of the elements to be considered a wonderful love story, several issues can be identified and critiqued, particularly those dealing with the portrayal of genderand sexual scripts. Gender is defined as the state of being male or female. Gender consists of the assortment of mental traits that differ between the sexes; thus, gender scripts are the behavior expectations given to males and females. The characters in the movies either feed into or go against gender scripts. Case in point, Edward is a wealthy businessman, and for that reason, his character feeds into the gender script of men being breadwinners and guiders in patriarchal societies. For instance, Edward is displayed as a savior, a hero of some sort, due to the fact that he takes Vivian off the streets, hires her, and transforms her into a well rounded, respectable woman. Edward is also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Start of a Case Analsis 1. What do you think of the cities plan ? I believe it s a good plan initially. In looking at the co location of the City of Dallas and Kroeger plan. There, the City of Dallas has sufficient development moneys, no fiscal constraints. Grandtown however HAS fiscal constraints that have prevented them from renovating their existing library for years. Where is this money to build a modern new 9,000 square foot library coming from ? Perhaps they should review their existing financial situation, and come up with a financial plan that rehabilitates their existing building which will maintain the publicness of the existing Grandtown location ? After the co location, will the library still be a public organization ? Explain how you arrived at your answer. Will it loose some of its publicness ? Not in the full sense of the definition. As a result of the disadvantages listed above, the Public Library will not operate/function in the same way it did before its colcation in the same building/geographic location with Walmart. Lets look at the definition of Publicness. The quality or state of belonging to the community; as, the publicness of property . This has A problematic stance, in the area of Walmarts REIT tax situation, and tax evasion techniques. The co location brings this to the mind of the Grandtree residents, and would cause a negative public sentiment. M. Shamsuel Haque National University of Singapore In his article, it is argued that while there has been an apparent eclipse in discourse regarding the Publicness or public quality of public service, the recent transition toward a market driven mode Of governance has created a serious challenge to such publicness. More soecifically, the contemporary Business like changes in the objectives, structures, functions, norms, and users of public service Tend to dimish it publicness in terms ... • 9. Lucy Human Evolution Lucy was exposed by Donald Johanson, an anthropologist, with his team, went to survey Hadar in Ethiopia during the late 1970s for signs in understanding Human origins. On November 24, 1974 by the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided otherwise when one of his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them were on the hot waterless plains examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned out to be an arm bone fragments on a slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were found, including a jaw, arm bone, a thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously examined the limited skeleton and calculated that a remarkable 40% of a hominid skeleton was salvaged,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human , as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and the capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were longer than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in tree dwelling primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or were they purely evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate. Although Lucy s hip and knee joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans, she was clearly able of walking on two feet, although running like a modern human was undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern ape, evidence to a relatively low quality, high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a thicker waist, which most likely would have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and the shape of her torso meant she would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human when running. All these answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an extraordinary picture of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking around way before the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids have deep rooted that conclusion. Bipedalism, it seems, was the initial stage towards becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Marxism In The Grapes Of Wrath The Grapes of Wrath tells the bitter story of the Joad family as it struggles to survive and to maintain its dignity in the middle of the Great Depression. But it is also the story of the social class of people like the Joads, tenant farmers who have lost their land and decide to move to California in hope of finding a better life. John Steinbeckwrote The Grapes of Wrath, in 1939, amid the Great Depression, in response to the enduring he saw of individuals with disadvantages. He wrote regarding Oklahomans that were incapable to continue farming since of the disastrous climate conditions. Particularly, he wrote about the Joad family having to emigrate to California. Steinbeck composed the novel from a Marxist point of view. Steinbeck is supporting Marxist thoughts by delineating the distinction of individuals included in capitalism, as the owners take advantage of the helpless. In the Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, Steinbeck uses Marxist beliefs to plot the long battle experienced by the Joad family. Spain and the Balkans came under a long period of Muslim rule as did Iran and the middle eastern countries, which were completely subsumed. Indian culture showed remarkable vitality and survived. Perhaps this was a positive aspect of the rigid codification of laws and the caste system. China and Japan were geographically isolated and never faced large scale invasion from Islam, which anyway spread in Indonesia , the Philippines and malaysis, with the waning of Indian power. East Asia was in fact an important sphere of Indian cultural export, with the Srivijaya Empire, the Majpahit Empire and so on ruling for long. Here as Indian power fragmented and declined. According to naturalism, man is a helpless pawn, at the mercy of the surrounding. Piazzolla developed the traditional tango in 1955 and it has gained popularity in upper middle class as well as international tourists. Tango that Piazzolla developed was for listening due to its rhythm. He transformed tango music from a functional dance style to a symbolic social statement (Live Class session 3). Heritage Differences In Everyday Use By Alice Walker Heritage Differences In the short story Everyday Use , by Alice Walker she represents the conflicts and struggles of the African American culture in rural Georgia around the early 1970 s. Alice Walker introduced 4 main characters; Mama and her two daughters, Maggie and Dee as well as Dee s boyfriend Hakim a barber. Mama is the narrator of the story, she is both a mother and father to her daughters as she is uneducated but worked years of physical labor and lives in poverty. Maggie is the youngest daughter who s shy and lives with Mama, she lacks confidence and is unable to be open nor make eye contact with the people talking to her. Mama s older daughter, Dee who renamed herself as Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo is educated, determined, and confident. She declares that she is the one who is looking at the important aspects of her family history and Mama and Maggie aren t aware of it. Everyday Use carries many different meanings that highlight the issue of how things are used on an everyday basis. Understanding their family African heritage was a big concept for Dee. As Mama and Dee had two different opinions about heritage which caused conflict about whom should keep the quilts from Maggie and Dee. Everyday Use is a focus on the bonds women have between different generations and legacies for example, the Quilts. Mama and Maggie see a different usefulness to the quilts compared to Dee, the quits represent matters such as reading, race and class, among others. Quilting in Everyday Use symbolizes family heritage. They are a history of papers in fabric that vary over generations. They symbolize the family s history of pride, poverty and struggle. Mama and Dee have different perspectives on what the quilts mean to the family heritage. • 19. Final Design For The Ball Sorting Device Essay Final Design Our final design for the ball sorting device is composed of 5 primary components: Ramp, separation device, dome, base, and collection device. Separation device: The need for a separation device came to attention as interference between the balls on the ramp as well as the dome was observed. To avoid interference there needed to be space between the balls. The separation device is a hollow, circular cylinder with rods inserted horizontally (parallel to the radius and perpendicular to the height) from one side and out throughout the other, but at different angles, with vertical spacing between the rods. This would basically function like a pegboard; As the balls fall into the cylinder they will collide with the road and will fall onto either side of the rod, and continue falling until they hit another rod. Each time they hit a rod there will be a ВЅ probability for the balls to tilt towards either side. A total of of rods were inserted. A cardboard tube was used as the cylinder and chopsticks as the rods. The materials chosen were cheap, lightweight, and strong enough. This introduces randomness in the system as well the slowing of the balls falling so that space between the balls are created. The balls then enter the ramp. Ramp: The ramp is the source of energy for the balls. Energy here is in the form of gravity, as the start of the ramp is elevated to and it provides potential energy using the formula, where m is the mass of the individual balls provided, h as ... Feminists believe that victims are disenfranchised in society and the court of law, seen through the invalidation of victims and fear from society s backlash, as well as authorities improper conduct under such cases. Therefore, if a false accusation, which already has a low probability of occurring, is made, it then only has a 10 percent chance of being convicted. This 10 percent chance is likely even lower, as if the case is properly investigated, a false accusation will not end in a conviction. False accusations are not the problem in society, but rather sexual assault. Underreporting, paired with the increase in rape, demonstrates the growing urgency to deal with the problem of sexual assault before it gets out of hand. Power And Control In William Shakespeare s The Tempest In William Shakespeare s romantic comedy play, The Tempest, we witness an endless amount of power struggles and scheming amongst characters, all in the hopes of achieving one thing: complete control over the remote island in which they re stranded on. Throughout the play, characters choose their allies, set targets on their enemies, and manipulate situations and one another in an attempt to reach their end goals. Each character that strives to colonize the island has different motives based on their place in the social hierarchy and their relationships to fellow characters. However, each character seeking control over the island not only has their own motives, but also their own vision for what the island could be under their sole jurisdiction. The three main players seeking to colonize the island and make their own vision of what it could be into a reality are Prospero, Caliban, and Gonzalo. Between these three characters we see relationships between the colonizer, the colonized, and one character who envisions the island as an opportunity to create the perfect society. Power and control are prominent themes in Shakespeare s The Tempest, as the audience is faced with severe questions of morality and who has rightful claim of the island. Physical Exercise And Mental Exercise Essay The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brainis not achieved solely by physical exerciseor mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher cognitive functioning of the mindas well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to make an overall healthy individual. The Erikson et al. article supports the idea that physical exercise helps the brain by improving memory and the size of the hippocampus. Erikson and his colleagues suggested in their study that physical exercise increases the retention of information and improves learning capabilities. The way they measured this was by studying the increased or decreased size of the subject s hippocampus and levels of BDNF. • 25. Memory Retrieval Essay Memory retrieval is likely to be good after repeated testing of that material. In fact, practising retrieval has a larger effect on memory than revising the information (Hockley, 2009). Another factor that influences the quality of retrieved information is the way one studied the material. As such, material that was studied over a number of sessions and contexts has more chance of being retrieved correctly after a period of time than the material that has been studied over one long session (Bjork, 2001). The spacing between the sessions should not be too big or too little, as in case it is too big the person might simply forget the material he already studied, and in case it is too little the spacing effect would not work. Overall, spacing is important for long term retention, whilst cramming over one long session works for short term memory. Another thing that matters is the information ... As, this novel was first published namelessly, many people thought that the man, who wrote the preface, Percy Shelly, was the author of the book. Consequently, there are few disagreements about the authorship of Frankenstein. Many people refuse to accept that Mary Shelly is the real author of Frankenstein. Frye writes about how these views correlate to how people view oppression, It is now possible to grasp one of the reasons why oppression can be hard to see and recognize: one can study the elements of an oppressive structure with great care and some good will without seeing the structure as a whole, and hence without seeing or being able to understand that one is looking at a cage and that there are people there who are caged, whose motion and mobility are restricted, whose lives are shaped and reduced (12). In lieu of the aforementioned statement and the quote that has followed it, one can see that Frye believes that these perspectives, particularly the microscopic view is quite harmful as it prevents people from seeing the big picture or the macroscopic ... • 42. The First Law Of Thermodynamics Thermodynamics is the study of heat and energy transfer, more specifically how heat transfer relates to energy changes within a system. The laws of thermodynamics were developed to predict and outline behaviors of thermodynamic processes (5). The First Law of Thermodynamics states that the change in a system s internal energy is equal to the difference between heat added to the system from its surroundings and work done by the system on its surroundings (5). The idea behind this is conservation of energy, meaning all energy in and out of a system must be accounted for. If energy is added to a system in the form of heat, it must be used. If heat is added to a system, the system either performs work (an exothermic process) or changes internal energy (an endothermic process) (4). Enthalpy, a thermodynamic potential, is the measure of the energy within this system. The change in enthalpy, H, must be measured in order to find out how energy is transferred throughout a system. If H has a positive value, the system is endothermic and it will keep the added heat, increasing its internal energy. If H has a negative value, it means the system lost heat or did work when energy was put into the system, so the system is exothermic (3). Gibbs Free Energy, G, is the maximum amount of energy or enthalpy available to do work. The decrease in Gibbs Free Energy is equivalent to the work done by a system to its surroundings, excluding pressure work (5). A negative G is required for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, the language system is peculiar in that deals directly with linguistic input and output (in the form of speech or writing) while at the same time serving a symbolic function with respect to non verbal objects, events, and behaviors. Any representational theory must accommodate this dual functionality. Dual coding theory complements a dual route theory of reading. • 46. Diesel Engines Are The Best My dad and I have always argued about which type of engine was better. My dad thinks that gas engines are the best. I think that diesel engines are the best. The diesel engine has a better design for all around usability than a gas engines. First, the weight of diesel engines are on average is 1,100 pounds. The engine has to be built stronger, because the compression ratio is a lot higher. As it runs, the pistons compress air to an extreme heat, and as it reaches top dead center, the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber. The fuel being injected directly in the hot air results in a highly destructive explosion that drives the piston down creating power. In addition, it makes the iconic diesel knock sound. Gas engines are built weaker because the compression ratio is lower. If a gas engine had the same compression ratio as a diesel, it would not even start to run because it would blow up at idle. The gasoline engine has spark plugs that ignites the fuel. They don t need to compress air to an extreme heat like the diesels do. As the pistons travel up, the air fuel mixture is introduced into the combustion chamber. The air fuel mixture just sits there for a split second, and then the plug sparks and ignites the fuel. This is why the gasoline engines are lighter than diesel. In addition, the weight of a diesel enginealso effects the usable power band. • 51. How Jesus Christ Fulfilled The Covenants God Made With... Introduction Throughout the history of the world, God has been working to bring humanity back to him. Due to the loss of constant communion in the fall, God set forth multiple promises to eventually establish his eternal Kingdom, the New Testament, is the culmination of these promises. The Gospels are the most specific in how Jesus Christ fulfilled the covenants God made with Abraham and David. More importantly he is the fulfillment of the new covenant, which washes away sin and brings humanity back into communion with God. What is modeled in the Gospels is reaffirmed in Acts, by the way the church is to function according to the culmination of the Covenants. Acts begins to reveal the great mystery that is the inclusion of the Gentiles in God s covenant. Paul s Epistles take the culmination a step further and defend the idea that the fulfillment of God s covenants does not just affect the people of Israel, but the Gentiles as well. The General epistles teach that the people are no longer bound by the mosaic covenant since the New Covenant was fulfilled via Jesus Christ. Yet practice of the law is still an important factor of the Christian life style even if superseded by the New Covenant. Revelation shows that covenants are leading up to the lord s victory and salvation of his people.
