Mary Ainsworth Attachment Theory
The first years are an important stage in an child s life. They are learning an abundance of information
about themselves and the people and world around them. During this time when there is a great
amount of development taking place, one of the major components is establishing some sort of
attachment with their primary caregivers. There are two different perspectives on the attachment to
consider. Those of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, who emphasized the importance of infants
creating relationships to have a healthy up bringing for later adulthood. Matos, Pinto Gouveia, and
Costa (2013) agree that, early relationships are crucial to human brain maturation, well being, affect
regulation and self other schema (p.149). On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, those who support the attachment theory believe children should be nurtured and cared for,
for them to function as mentally healthy adults. Certainly, Watson was concerned with teaching
parents how to produce a child who finally enters manhood so bulwarked with stable work and
emotional habits that no adversity can quite overwhelm him (Watson Watson, 1928, p.10). As
mentioned before, Watson s views on raising children was not the most ideal. Children would not
learn how to properly cope with life s challenges because they were ultimately left to learn on their
own, and no one can learn without being taught or influenced. In fact, Dickerson and Kemeny (2004)
refer to any form of neglect, rejection, criticism, and/or harsh parenting styles, are related to threat
systems , where the child may not have feelings of safety or security to help their well being. For
example, a child who is constantly being criticized for spelling incorrectly can develop constant doubt
in themselves as to when they do or don t spell a word correctly. The child can feel shameful for their
actions if it is projected towards other things they do as

What It Takes to Be First Sergeant
As a Sergeant First Class (SFC) there are certain amount of skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities
my command, peers, and subordinates expect of me. One of the knowledge I feel I should know as a
SFC is what it takes to become a First Sergeant (1SG). I will outline the eligibilities, criteria, and
trainings required of a 1SG through different sources. Based on that information, I will give you my
opinion of what I feel I should know before becoming a 1SG. The most highly qualified and
motivated senior Soldiers fill the 1SG positions. These assignments are career enhancing and serve as
professional development for Soldiers in a Career Management Field (CMF) where 1SG opportunities
are available. To be eligible to become a 1SG, Soldiers must be in the grade of SFC through MSG and
will be selected based on outstanding qualities of leadership, dedication to duty, integrity and moral
character, professionalism, military occupational specialty proficiency, appearance and military
bearing, and physical fitness. 1SG positions have many criteria and all requisition authorities in the
Continental United States (CONUS) or Outside Continental United States (OCONUS) are required to
identify 1SG positions with the appropriate special qualification identifier (SQI) of M. The M
identifier award is base on the criteria in DA Pam 611 21. Which identifies the 1SG will assist the

The Evil Eye Among The Azande
I. Introduction
This extended essay will involve a comparison of ethnographic material from two case studies, E. E.
Evans Pritchard s, Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande (Oxford 1937) and V.
Chryssanthopoulou s article on The Evil Eye among the Greeks of Australia: Identity, Continuity and
Modernization , in J. C. B. Petropoulos (ed.), Greek Magic: Ancient, Medieval and Modern
(Routledge 2008, pp. 106 118). The aim of this comparison will be to illustrate two different
indigenous systems of knowledge and understanding of man s misfortune in the world as employed by
the members of these societies. In particular, I shall be focusing on the beliefs and practices of these
societies which surround notions of misfortune in everyday ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, when Pritchard paid the two different witchdoctors to teach his servant all their secrets,
when he acknowledges that the custom is that the teachings have to be strictly confidential to someone
who is particularly interested in proceeding his career as a witch doctor. In addition, woman s position
in the Zande society is a very briefly mentioned aspect when on the contrary, Chryssanthopoulou
being a female anthropologist, has a frequency to mention only claims of women about the Evil Eye.
However; it might be the case that men among the Azande are more involved with witchcraft than
women and respectively in reverse in the Castellorizian community. Also, Chryssanthopoulou is a
follower of the Greek Orthodox Church that as mentioned above, accepts the Evil Eye concept.
Finally, it should be mentioned that Evans Pritchard being a British studied the Azande when they
were under a great change because of the British rule, but again the topic is only briefly mentioned in
the ethnography.
Evans Pritchard s work Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande was the first ethnography
that tried to understand the native s set of belief when in their own context and not through a
Westerner s eye. It was him that first criticized and disposed of the thought that there existed a
particularly primitive, prelogical mentality. His point was to investigate the interrelationships of
thought and

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act
The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) is a federal law that was set up to protect the free
exercise of religion, as an undeniable right, protected by the First Amendment. Easy enough, right
however, it seems can be interpreted in different ways, some depending on what your beliefs are i.e.,
religious or secular. Such as in the legal case of Burwell (U.S. Secretary of Health and Human
Services) vs. Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby argued that they should not have to pay for contraceptives
for their employees as part of their healthcare because contraceptives such as the emergency
contraception went against their religious beliefs because is an abortifacient.
I went into this with an open mind as I really didn t follow the case at the time and really didn t know
too much about it. I also did really know too much about what RFRA was from a legal point of view.
To help me fully understand I found the syllabus from this case in which part of the first paragraph
says: The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA) prohibits the Government [from]
substantially burden [ing] a person s exercise of religion even if the burden results from a rule of
general applicability unless the Government demonstrates that application of the burden to the person
(1) is in furtherance of a compelling government interest; and (2) is the least restrictive means of
furthering that compelling government interest. (Supreme Court Of The United States, 2013). The
second paragraph reads:

Office Apparel Research Paper
The combination of Women s fashion and proper office apparel offers a unique challenge to any
fashion designer; and the fashion trend for Spring 2009 is no exception. For Spring 2009 the fashion
industry offers fabrics that are sheer, soft and flowing and full of color. Platform heels are back as well
as cardigans. If you are looking to build your office wardrobe, here are five of the hottest trends for
Spring 2009 s appropriate office apparel. And the nice thing is, they can be bought at Walmart, or any
other store of your choice. 1. Use a scarf Since sheer is in, for Spring 2009, and you of course wouldn
t consider wearing a sheer blouse to work; wear a scarf. A soft scarf loosely tied about the neck, can

If you do much walking around in your office, or a lot of standing, you might be more comfortable in
flat Mary Jane s. These shoes are quite stylish, and very feminine. 3. Handbag/purse A lady s handbag
or purse should be of the same color and texture as her shoes. It adds a touch of professionalism, and a
sense of being well put together when shoes and purse or handbag match. 4. Cardigans Spring 2009
has cardigans back with a vengeance, and this year they have ¾ sleeves. They are accented with large
buttons. They can be worn buttoned up (not the top button) as a top, or they can be worn opened, with
a matching camisole, depending on your attire for the day. 5. Pants Fabric choices for Spring 2009 are
soft and flowing, and that goes for slacks as well. A nice cotton blend is a good choice, and will be
comfortable when the days get warmer. If your boss or supervisor doesn t mind, cropped pants are
very stylish this spring, and look very nice and professional. I have listed here a couple of websites
that I have found to be very helpful in helping women put these fabrics and accessories together, and
making a nice office appropriate attire. http://fashion about.com/od/whattowear/a/weartowork.htm,

The Themes Of Courage In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak
Themes are inserted within literature by the author in an attempt to provoke readers to think about the
topic provided. In the novel, The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak, many topics are presents,
such as, courage, suffering, and human behavior. The most prevalent, however, is the courage
possessed by certain individuals. This theme, bravery, is evident throughout the entire course of the
novel in Liesel Meminger, the Hubermanns, and Max Vandenburg. Liesel Meminger, coined The
Book Thief , exhibits extraordinary acts of courage within the literary work. Since birth, Meminger
has faced hardships; she deals with the absence of her father, the death of her younger brother, and the
abandonment by her mother all within several years. These adversities lead to the development of
Meminger s courageous nature, which she displays throughout the novel. Acts of her courage include
stealing books and trusting the Hubermanns After attending her brother s funeral, Liesel notices that
one of the gravediggers has dropped a novel. Looking around to make sure no one is watching her, she
collects the book and hides it; stealing this book ignites the fire and desire inside of her to learn how to
read and expand her knowledge. After Liesel Meminger arrives to the Hubermanns house in
Molching, Germany, she has to be coaxed out of the car. Finally, Hans Hubermann, later known as
Papa, is the successor in luring the child out of the car, he immediately gains her trust, unlike his cold
counterpart, Rosa Hubermann. Despite Rosa s foul mouth and direct orders, Saumensch. You call me
Mama when you talk to me (Zusak 35), Liesel eventually learns to trust and love her. Learning to love
and to trust the Hubermanns shows how courageous Liesel truly is since she had previously faced the
abandonment/death of two parents. Hans and Rosa Hubermann are driven by bravery throughout the
entire course of The Book Thief and are perhaps the most courageous characters within the novel.
Hans Hubermann defies the Furher (the leader Hitler) by not joining the Nazi Party, despite the
amount of pride that is supposed to be associated with it. Hubermann is looked down upon by much of
society due to this decision, even his own son, Hans

Essay Ravenna
Located in northeast Italy in the Emilia Romagna region and the capital of the province bearing its
name, Ravenna is internationally celebrated for its stunning ancient mosaics and rich history. Ravenna
s prosperous past is evident in its wealth of still standing examples of Byzantine art and architecture.
Positioned near the Adriatic Sea on a marshy plain, Ravenna has served as a strategic ?capital three
times: of the western Roman Empire, of Theodoric King of the Goths, and of the Byzantine Empire in
Europe? (History, par. 1). By delving into Ravenna?s history, as well as its remarkable artistic
achievements, the reasoning behind its popularity in tourism becomes clear.
Ravenna was formed by the buildup of centuries of silt deposits ... Show more content on

The surrounding marshes provided a natural line of defense and its location at the crossroads of the
northern and southern peninsula made it exceptionally challenging to capture. These were all
influences in its allure as a bastion of control.
?The exact date of Roman control remains a mystery, as much of Ravenna?s past, although the first
record of a Roman fleet to reach the city was in 82 BC. Caesar chose Ravenna as his headquarters
while negotiating with the Senate and later as his base when launching various military campaigns on
surrounding areas. While there, he is thought to have begun construction on the port of Classe
(initially known as Classis), which served as the catalyst for Ravenna s first rise to greatness. Emperor
Octavius Augustus oversaw the port?s completion and, realizing its strategic location, made the port
the principal base for a fleet, 250 ships strong, to defend the ?Adriatic Sea and the waters of the near
eastern Mediterranean (History, par. 9). Augustus also created a canal, known as the Fossa Augusta,
linking the port to the southern branch of the Po. This canal permitted waters to flow around the city
walls to fortify Ravenna?s defense and through the center of the town to facilitate transport and
commerce. With the port as the focus of the city, Ravenna flourished as a town of trade and industry
(especially ship building). Though the port?s value waned by the sixth century

How Did Atticus Protests The Jim Crow Laws In To Kill A...
The author of To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee, protests the Jim Crow Laws in a lot of ways. She
uses characters such as Atticus to protest the laws. Lee doesn t directly state in the story that she is
protesting the laws. The way she wrote the story you can insist that she is going against racism.
Harper Lee wrote the book in the time of the Jim Crow Laws came about. In To Kill A
Mockingbird,Harper Lee uses the trial against Tom Robinson that Atticus must tackle, the lessons that
Atticus wants his children to learn about treating people with equality, and the controversial character
of Dolphus Raymond to protest the Jim Crow Laws. Harper Lee protests the Jim Crow Laws in To
Kill A Mockingbird by having Atticus defend a black man in court. Atticus defends a black man in
court during the time the Jim Crow Laws surfaced. In the Jim Crow Laws, a black man should never
accuse a white person of lying. Also, the Jim Crow Laws separate blacks and whites from interacting.

Atticus decided to defend Tom Robinson, a black man, Jem and Scout had many encounters with

Comparing Dollhouse And Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, And...
It is said that Joss Whedon s work is not just to entertain his audience but he is also looking towards
sending out a message. Generally, when people look deeply into his text they can find that he is
usually sending a message to society about how gender roles and it is common for him to play with
them. In these three shows Dollhouse and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, and Firefly he takes gender roles
and moves them around at will.
In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this is seen so often because the entire show is based around it. You have
buffy this strong and witty girl who run s around slaying vampires. While all of the male side
characters are practically useless. A good example pulled from the footage of this would be from
episode 2. Xander which is Buffy s new male friend at the time insists on going with Buffy to save his
friend who had been captured by the vampires. As much as Buffy defied him to he still was going no
matter what she said so she just backed down. Then when they get there and confront him Xander is
basically useless. He just stands there helpless while Buffy saves the day.
Another episode of Buffy that is a good example of this would be in episode 4. The episode starts off
with these ridiculous boyhood fantasies in which Xander is this grand hero saving the damsel in
distress. But it s nothing but a fantasy as the episode goes on Xander starts a romantic relationship
with the substitute teacher. Then it turns out that the teacher was a monster that captures

Never Let Me Go Book Vs Movie Essay
Kazuo Ishiguro s novel Never Let Me Go centers the main character, Kathy, and her journey through
her unique life. Kathy grew up at a place called Hailsham; she and her fellow classmates are all
clones, but for most of the story are unaware. They are clones with the sole purpose of one day
donating their organs to people who are their possibles, the people after whom they are modeled.
Kathy becomes a carer, someone who delays their donations by volunteering to assist others in their
donation process. By being a carer, Kathy witness two of her closest friends, Tommy and Ruth, go

This may solely be due to the transition from one medium to the other. Today people are always
saying the book is always better than the movie. This may be associated with the fact that movies are
attempts to cram hundreds of pages into two hours of cinema. Books, in theory, can include any and as
much information as possible. It is nearly impossible for a movie to capture every detail from a novel,
so directors are forced to leave out information. Many times, information they choose to leave out is a
critical symbol or scene to the story. In an article titled 6 Reasons the Book is (Almost Always) Better
Than the Movie written by Rich Santos, he lists one of the reasons as limited storytelling time. He
describes that most movies do their thing in 1.5 3 hours. A book is edited and crafted, but the writer is
still working with an unlimited time canvas. In this particular instance, the director fell short in
carrying the significance of the tape from paper to the big screen. This is not necessarily due to the
incompetency of the director, but from the difficulties associated with turning a popular book into a

Questions On Material And Methods
3. Material and Methods 3.1. Measurements At the time of designing the questionnaire process, we
reviewed the comprehensive literature and adapted the relevant measures which were verified in the
existing studies to formulate the measurement items. First, since every human task can be deputed to a
software agent and such agent can perform any procurement activity on behalf of the users, that
creates many difficulties to determine and measure all IAT applications in the procurement process.
Consequently, we adapted the most important and common IAT applications to represent the measures
of IAT usage at hotels FP from Khoo, Tor [13] and O Leary [18]. Second, the FPPR were assessed by

by 3,4,6,4, and 7 items respectively. Third, the procurement performance was also assessed by 21
items adapted fromQuesada, González [42]. The three constructs of the FPP, internal performance,
supplier related performance, and internal customer performance, were assessed by 7,7, and 6 items
respectively. Additionally, all of the items were measured by five point Likert scales ranging from not

The Cost Of A Cost Analysis
A cost analysis can be conducted in order by companies in order to estimate their cost when making
decisions (Douglas, 2012). Managers can various methods to analyze costs for decision making
purposes these are total variable cost, average variable cost, marginal costs (Douglas, 2012). In
addition the company can use profit maximization and marginal revenue to help make decisions
(Douglas, 2012). This paper will analyze two different scenarios and use various methods to help them
make the decisions at hand. The first scenario will analyze a pizza company. William, owner, is trying
to increase outputs while minimizing their costs. It has been determined that four ovens cost the
company $1,000. In addition, he has supplied the following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This makes the most efficient number of employees to be at six because this is the highest return
between employee numbers zero and eight. If William was to pay each employee $500 per week, he
could determine his variable cost by taking their pay per week by the number of employees. Once this
is computed he can add it to the fixed cost to determine his total cost. The marginal cost can be
computed by taking the incremental total cost divided by the incremental output (Douglas, 2014).
Employees Variable Cost ($) Fixed Cost ($) Total Cost ($) Incremental Cost ($) Pizza Produced
Incremental Output Marginal Cost ($)
0 0 1,000 1,000 0
1 500 1,000 1,500 500 75 75 6.67
2 1,000 1,000 2,000 500 180 105 4.76
3 1,500 1,000 2,500 500 360 180 2.78
4 2,000 1,000 3,000 500 600 240 2.08
5 2,500 1,000 3,500 500 900 300 1.67
6 3,000 1,000 4,000 500 1140 240 2.08

8 4,000 1,000 5,000 500 1360 100 5.00 This shows that to minimize their marginal cost they should
have five employees because this marginal cost is $1.67 and when you hit six employees their
marginal cost increase with each added employee. Marginal productivity declines as companies hire
more employees after a certain level. This is based on the law of diminishing returns which is if a
company continues to add variable inputs to its fixed inputs in the production process,

Ghiberti s Gates Of Paradise Analysis
Panel number 4 of Ghiberti s Gates of Paradise on the Baptistery de San Giovanni depicts Abraham
and Isaac. On this panel the story of Abraham and Isaac is told. As is seen by just glancing at the
panel, there seems to be a man up on a mountain, about to strike down on a man who is bent over on
his knees. There is also an angel right above them. Below the mountain, there are two men having a
conversation in a lounged position, and one of their donkeys is standing nearby. On the other side,
there seems to be a man begging three more angels for something. Off in the distance behind that man
is a woman emerging from a tent. There are also lots of trees on the left side, opposite of the
mountain. The men having a conversation are sitting next to a bush and what seems to be some sort of
water source, that is coming from a small cave in the mountain. There is a type of basket at the feet of
the tree angels, and there is a table outside the tent from which the woman is emerging.
I think that the story on this panel begins with the man standing on top of the mountain. He is
Abraham, and he is beating Isaac. An angel is coming to stop him from striking down on him. The
man on the bottom left begging the angels for something seems as though it might be the same man
who is standing up on the mountain(simultaneous presentation). Abraham was about to kill his son,
but on the bottom left, it shows him begging the angels to forgive him and help him. The woman on
the left is

The Rise Of The 19th Century
The 19th century was a time of great innovation and rapid industrialization. The industry of iron and
steel was generating new construction materials, while railroads were being connected across the
United States. But one of the most used resources in the world now was discovered, oil as a source of
fuel. In 1901, a gigantic geyser of oil erupted from a drilling site at Spindletop Hill, Texas. The spout
reached a height of more than 150 feet and produced close to 100,000 barrels a day. This was the most
powerful gusher ever seen before by the world. Soon a thriving oil industry formed around the oil

corporate responsibility. These companies violate human rights all over the world, they aren t

course the oil giants aren t the only ones dealing with resentment and controversy from the general

16th Birthday Research Paper
It was a beautiful summer day, and I woke up bright and early overwhelmed with excitement for my
girlfriend Olivia and I to go to Cedar Point for her 16th Birthday. Olivia is an outgoing, entertaining,
and funny person. I couldn t ask for a better person to go with. We had been planning this trip for
months and we both took off work so we could celebrate her upcoming 16th Birthday. As soon as I
woke up I quickly took a brisk, cold, shower and got ready for the big day we had both been waiting
for all summer. I put on my vibrant red Red Wings shirt, which was her favorite, grabbed the tickets,
and went to go pick her up. My Dad is a big reason in how we got to go, because he agreed to drive us

d been awhile since I had pop, so the taste of an ice cold coca cola was extremely refreshing. After
lunch we went and went on more roller coasters. Both of us were excited to go on the new ride called
the Valravn but the wait was over 2 hours long. We decided to go on it despite the long wait in a crowd
of loud, sweaty people. The wait surprisingly went by fairly quickly because we were able to keep
ourselves entertained by playing games and cracking jokes. Finally the 2 hour wait was over, our feet
were throbbing and we were anxious to experience the new amazing ride. We got buckled up and the
ride blasted off. We felt the cool breeze in our face and heard the screams of our fellow riders. The
adrenaline was rushing through my veins and I never wanted this feeling to stop. I was so happy to be

Plato Essay
Plato
Biography
Plato was born in Athens of an aristocratic family. He recounts in the Seventh Letter, which, if
genuine, is part of his autobiography, that the spectacle of the politics of his day brought him to the
conclusion that only philosophers could be fit to rule. After the death of Socrates in 399, he travelled
extensively. During this period he made his first trip to Sicily, with whose internal politics he became
much entangled. He visited Sicily at least three times in all and may have been richly subsidised by
Dionysius. On return from Sicily he began formal teaching at what became the Academy.
Plato is generally regarded as the inventor of the philosphical argument as we know it, and many

Migration Is A Common Occurrences
Migration to another Country is a very difficult, challenging and a time consuming process.
Some of the factors that we can attribute to migration is assimilation to a different culture, changes in
gender roles and culture shock. The process of migrations changes between Countries either as
refugee, illegal or legal. Migrations occurs as a result of food insecurity, political reasons, and
economic opportunities. These reasons influence a person or families to migrate to a foreign land for a
better opportunities. Therefore, immigrations is a common occurrences. Immigrations is when a native
person migrates to a foreign country with the intentions. Once migrations is successful the
assimilation into the new culture may become extremely difficult. The blending of the two cultures,
which produces a subcultures that influences the new generations of family morals, values and
cultures. In the film The Namesake, the film portrays the navigation in time sequences of marriage,
education, parental hood, success, wealth and death. The struggles of a Bengali couple who
immigrated to the United States, which cultures is outside their customs. The film, The Namesake was
created after a very popular book that dives into the obscurities internal and externality of immigrates
and the first generations Americans. It gives a very accurate and honest approach of difficulties to
understand and accept the new culture for the parents who migrate. The film also shows the constraint

Compare And Contrast Sparta And Athens
Athens and Sparta were once city states in Greece who lived in harmony with several different beliefs.
Sparta was a military based city state, they had 100 percent military participation to provide the
protection for the greeks. Their government operated as an oligarchy and often was lead by military
leaders to make the right decisions in the eyes of a tactical or military standpoint.Their economy was
depended mainly on agriculture . Sparta believed in equality allowing women to receive the same
education as men to further empower their city state mentally and physically. The city state of Athens

With the knowledge he possessed, he influenced the whole city state which he controlled to further
their education to a higher standard. Alexander the great would eventually become the trailblazer for
the rise of and dominance of Macedonia, through his leadership of the 40,000 plus army he controlled
and his ability to capture lands and seize their silver. His excellent leadership skills as a king
influenced all of the Macedonia and gave them the surge of power that they all wanted, through his
several military campaigns seizing lands and silver allowed him to be considered a paradigm for any
leader. Alexander the Great passed away at the age of 32 from a fever while he was in Babylon, after
his passing all the wealth accumulated was distributed to several military leaders to continue his
influence even after he was gone. The republic of Rome was a very long era lasting from 27 BC to
476 AD where the republic was not led by a single person. The Roman Republic operated as three
branches the senate, magistrates, and assemblies, all of these branches were responsible for making

created a checks and balances government allowing the equal distribution of power among the
political leaders of Rome. Even with the constitution behind it the Republic eventually fell because of

Using The Socratic Method
People tend to separate themselves from iconic social leaders and glorify them for bringing about
change within society. What those people fail to realize is that they are not much different from those
activists. As Socrates believed, we as humans are all capable and obligated to think and ask questions.
Those leaders were simply regular people who explored the belief system and mindset of those around
them and challenged those beliefs in order to bring attention to the injustice in the world. Humans are
indebted to think logically, defy social norms and grow confident in their beliefs in order to progress
as a whole. People are often swayed by the opinions of others and that causes them to live passively
and too dependently. This can be blamed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During our class seminars, the socratic method was brought up as a prevention for this. In order to use
the Socratic Method, one must start off with a hypothesis and find counterexamples to disprove their
hypothesis. Once he or she establishes faults in their hypothesis, they must revise it and repeat the
process until it is almost impossible to disprove. Doing this seems stressful and challenging because it
is hard to question your own beliefs versus questioning the beliefs of those around you. When
questioning ourselves, we become defensive because we are exposing ourselves and becoming
vulnerable to the idea that we may not know everything that we think we know; essentially we are
poking at our own ego. Going back to Socrates and the idea that an unexamined life is not worth
living, I believe that ignorance truly is a mindset. The only way a society can undergo a change is if
people examine themselves and the aftermath is many others doing the same. The confidence we get
from simply thinking is amazing and it is a gift that we must utilize. The more conscious people we
have in this world, the easier it is to fight

Sonnet Analysis Essay
What s the first thought that pops in to your mind when you think of love, is it flowers, chocolates and

The cliché of these superficial representations have been around for years and continue to plague our

Valentine s Day and anniversaries really a good signification of true love or would you prefer a unique
and realistic approach? Good morning/ good afternoon Mr. Day and classmates, today I will be

Another renowned poet and playwright of Elizabethan times was William Shakespeare. Shakespeare s

sonnets of the 1600 s, Sonnet 130 has also been recognized as Anti Petrachian . In comparison
Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare has the same discourse but instead of being cliché, mocks the

They hissed angrily. Get out, you re not welcome here! My mother exclaimed. My eyes were as wide

One entry, when the author is talking about his friend getting shot, the tone is shocked, that his friend
was shot, and nobody seemed to care. In other chapters, like the one when a girl is talking about how
she will be the first in her family to go to college, the tone is excited. Throughout the book, the tone is
mostly reflective, because the authors are reflecting on their past choices.
Irony:
The only irony that is in this book, is when many students are saying that Mrs.Gruwell will not last
more than a few weeks, but she ends up lasting multiple years.
Imagery:
The imagery in this book, is when the Freedom Writers stand in a circle in Washington D.C, to

Cell Membranes In Red Blood Cells
11. The red blood cells (RBCs) in your body contain mainly hemoglobin (Hb), which is a large protein
that cannot pass through the RBC membrane. The RBC membrane is also impermeable to sucrose. If a
red blood cell is placed into a sucrose solution in which the concentration of sucrose on the outside of
the cell is less than the concentration of the Hb on the inside, will the RBC shrink, swell up or remain
the same size? Explain your reasoning. RBCs will swell up by hypertonic, since the plasma membrane
does not prevent its diffusion, water will flow into the cell by osmosis. The cell will swell and
eventually burst. The bursting of a cell is called lysis.

Eugenic Decision-Making
Eugenics is defined, in some way or the other, as the process of reshaping the human race by
determining the kinds of people who will be born. As such, there is much debate in the field of
eugenics, with authors, like Philip Kitcher, who support laissez faire or a minimalist approach of
eugenics in which eugenic decision making should be limited only to avoid neurological illnesses and
in which parental free choice is valued. Gregory Stock s essay, The Enhanced and Un Enhanced,
presents otherwise by supporting the position of maximalist eugenics, allowing individuals the full
extent in the selection of genes. On the other hand, the film, Gattaca, raises major ethical problems by
illustrating a dystopian society resulted by extensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, enlightened eugenics calls for the education on the basis of minimalist eugenics while
responsible eugenics would use reliable genetic tests in order to avoid neurological diseases and
prevent the previously mentioned dangers caused by laissez faire eugenics. Kitcher s view of utopian
eugenics envisions a society in which genetics allow people to make free and educated reproductive
choices and in which the education broadens an understanding of the likely quality of a modest life.
Contrary to Kitcher s minimalist model that constrains eugenic decisions only to avoid neurological
diseases, Gregory Stock s position in the debate defends maximalist eugenics in which individuals
have total free eugenic decision making, including enhancement, without any state coercion. He wants
readers to accept and adopt such a position by arguing that genetic engineering such as selecting and
alternating embryos is an inevitable future and human destiny (7, Stock, CC p.279). For example, if
redesigning humans became commonplace, Stock reasons that parents would give their children
endowments they desire but could not otherwise obtain and thus further expand life s possibilities to
the next generation (8, Stock, CC p.276). In this society, people s genes would become an embodiment
of their parents values and preferences. People would arguably want such endowments since they
would view modifications as beneficial in

Low Cost Airlines Essay
CANDIDATE NUMBER: 1801655
MN5333 INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY AND ENTERPRENEURSHIP ANSWER 1: Low fare
price is one of the main thing passengers/ fliers consider when looking to fly, therefore for most, low
budget airlines are their first option. Passengers are willing to give up their comfort and other in flight
services such as entertainment and during their journey for low ticket prices. However, over the past
few decades, operating long haul flights was not to the advantage of these budget airlines. The cost of
fuel made it for the most part, took up a huge proportion of the costs needed to manage/operate these
flights. According to The Economist article, Oasis airline went into liquidation a year after they had
started flying from London to Vancouver at low cut prices in 2008. Regardless of their flop, some
other airline companies including Air Asia are giving the no frills model a try. Scoot Airlines for
instance offer cut price tickets for six hour flights between Singapore and Tianjin; this is not a definite
medium or long haul flight. Time zones / time difference is one of the challenges these low budget
airlines faced in flying long distances. Some airports have night curfews which makes it hard /
impossible for the planes to turnaround the same day. This leads to an increase in their operation cost,
because they would have to be responsible for lodging and feeding their crew. This is another reason
why these low budget airlines adapt the free

Honorable In Julius Caesar
What makes someone honorable or corrupt? Webster defines honorable as deserving of respect or high
regard. Webster also defines corrupt as to change from good to bad in morals, manners, or action.
Honor is doing something for moral excellence. Being dishonorable or corrupt is flaunting one s own
abilities for completing a deed. Who comes to mind when you think honorable? Who comes to mind
when you think corrupt? Everyone has a different opinion for who is honorable and who is
dishonorable or corrupt. In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, multiple people can qualify as

Titinus responds respectfully, O Cassius, Brutus gave the word too early, Who, having some
advantage on Octavius, Took it too eagerly. His soldiers fell to spoil, Whilst we by Antony are all
enclosed (Shakespeare 5.3.5 8). Titinius is now correcting Cassius in a nice way saying that Brutus has
already sent the troops to surprise attack, but they left. This kind of explanation from Titinius shows us
he is respectful, and he is not showing off to Cassius. The next and final reason why I feel that Titinius
is the most honorable is the loyalty he has. Titinius shows loyalty in the most brave way. He is so loyal
to Cassius that when he finds himself at Cassius s body, he kills himself. Some would say he is
completely crazy, but others say this is loyal and the thing to do. In my opinion, Titinius is very loyal
to Cassius, and I would commend him for that. As a result, I find Cassius honorable for being
obedient, a fearless man, and a loyal soldier. Just as Titinius most honorable character in the play, from
my perspective, Octavius is the most dishonorable. Octavius is the son of Caesar. Octavius should
have set a better example from the beginning. Octavius is dishonorable because he is very destructive.
When Lepidus and Octavius first meet, Octavius already says to Lepidus that his brother must die, too.

Misconceptions about Rock and Metal Bands.

listeners that suicide is never the answer and that instead of hurting yourself listen to their music.
Rock and metal has actually reduced suicide rates by 89% When people hurt you over and over, think
of them as sandpaper. They may scratch and hurt you now but in the end you end up polished and they
end up useless. Andy stands up against bullying as do most bands which helps assist them in the
feeling that they belong and can recuperate to make it better in the end. These bands reassure the pain

Delta Goodrem Persuasive Speech
When people say Delta Goodrem is one of Australia s most successful musicians, they are not
exaggerating. Since the singer s debut Born To Try, which came out in 2002 at the age of 17, she has
amassed over eight million record sales, has had three #1 albums, and has achieved eight #1 singles.
Known for her soaring piano based pop melodies, Goodrem has returned to her iconic sound with her
latest single, Wings, and after debuting at #8 on the ARIA charts, it seems Australia has fallen in love
with the musician all over again. I think I ve always been a pop writer that writes with sentiment,
shares Goodrem with PPcorn. I like songs to have sentimental value and mean something to me, but
also have, sort of the inflections that I would want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My intention s always been the same. I think that that s why I ve always stayed the course. I ve only
ever had a good intention to be a part of music. The rest of it ... When there s been a storm or when
there s been great things, I ve just had to kind of, you know, put my head down and ride it. And when
lies do inevitably come up in the press, Goodrem has learned to find the humor in the situation. I think
you have to have fun along the way. I have a good laugh with my family and friends about things that
come up. If they aren t true, we laugh a lot. That s really, I think, the most important thing. Ultimately,
the singer maintains her solid relationship with fans. I have a lot of great, wonderful people who
support me out there. I m very, very lucky. I ve had a very unique relationship with everyone. Having
lived out many highs and lows through her career, Goodrem s latest musical offering encapsulates the
heartbeat of a singer who simply adores making music for others. With warmth that transcended our
phone interview for a routine press junket, it is little wonder Goodrem continues to endear the ears,
and hearts, of a country. My intention is true to wanting to just bring a good message and be a light to
people, and for people to have my music as part of their

Reflecting on an E-learning Staff Training Event that I...
Introduction The primary focus of this paper is to reflect on an E learning staff development training
event that I observed for the last six years as a participant. The E learning training utilized the same
method and the same material during this time. The staff development training is an annual
requirement for teachers to complete before the beginning of each school year. This training was
mandatory and supported the concept of safe schools. The objective of the training was highlighted,
which is to ensure each teacher successful complete the training to support state laws and
requirements for the safety of students in public schools. This training is used to substitute for
classroom training on those subjects that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lack of motivation results directly from previous experience with the training, since the training has
not changed over the last six years. The information presented did have graph and pictures but
designed in a clipart format with cartoonish characters suited for participants in a younger age group.
The questions are the same one and in the same sequence. The content lacks creativity and depth.
Critical thinking skills also do not appear to be important to the creator of this course. I have taken the
exams for the course without having to complete the individual modules. This is a problem since I am
sure there have been changes about how to handle safety issue in the school and classroom
environment. The professional development of teachers should be an important objective for school
administrators, since teachers affect student lives daily. Understandably, teachers are required to
receive formal training and certification, based primarily on subject matter content, communication
skills, classroom management abilities, and student interaction. An important consideration is the
professional development training that teachers receive and the method used to deliver the training. Of
course, there is the traditional face to face method, but with organizations, seeking ways to reduce
training cost and travel expenses technology is an effective alternative for training. Technology
implementation increased to reach the needs of teacher

Essay on Fort Myers
MIDTERM TAKE HOME EXAM
FT. MYERS ELDERCARE (CASE NO. 9 898 041)
1. Has Dana done a good job researching his options?
While Dana did not consider the site potential of other property types, he did a good job researching
his options for eldercare facilities. His analysis included regional analysis (comparing other cities and
counties to Fort Myers), population trends, Fort Myers healthcare statistics, industry and competitor
analysis (by viewing a consultant report), financing alternatives and financial analysis. Together, the
information provided a thorough overview of his options within eldercare.
2. How do congregate care and assisted living facilities differ?
They differ in client profiles, ownership, elder decision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assisted Living Facility: While a longer term investment with rental income and no sales in the short
term, the assisted living option provided a profitable opportunity given Fort Myers demographics. It
would be cheaper and most likely faster to build compared to congregate housing and had a large
market in Fort Myers.
While it is probably not feasible to capture the full potential gross income from a congregate care
facility given the higher price and time to sell, tables 1 and 2 below attempt to compare the PGI in the
first year of rent/sale from a congregate care and assisted living facility. If all units were sold within
the first year (which is highly unlikely), a congregate care facility would provide more cash upfront
with a smaller amount of monthly income moving forward. However, the assisted living facility has a
higher annual PGI after the first year. Ideally, assuming a market was available for congregate care, it
would take roughly 20 years for the income from assisted living to reach the income received from
congregate care.
Table 1: Annual PGI Congregate Care Facility
Table 2: Annual PGI Assisted Living Facility
4. Given the assisted living option, what does the development budget look like? What is the operating
income statement using conventional and

Compare And Contrast Gothic Elements In Dr Fbeth
In this essay I will identify and discuss two corresponding Gothic elements that are present in the play,
Dr Faustus and the film, The Devil s Advocate. I will also refer to how these elements add to the
abjection of the main character. The corresponding Gothic elements that I will use is Evil Deeds
Leading to the Downfall of a character and also Passion Drive, Willful Villain Hero or Villain.
In the play Dr Faustus; Faustus is a clever scholar from Germany, whose desire for knowledge and
wealth makes him eager to pay the final price; his soul; to Lucifer to trade for supernatural powers. In
the beginning Faustus s greatness is dismissed by the fact that he never seems fully sure of his
decision to surrender his soul and wonders the whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Human Body And Body Needs Sleep
Meagan Hasselbeck English 10 Mrs. Wintrow 10 April 2015 How The Human Body Reacts To Sleep.
Everyone knows the human body needs sleep. For some people, sleep is what they enjoy most, but
why do human beings need sleep? Why is the urge to collapse into the warm safety of our beds so
tempting? Why are we so grumpy when we don t get enough sleep? Sleeping isn t only relaxing but it
is also helpful to your brain and body. We have to sleep because it is essential to maintaining normal
levels of cognitive skills such as speech, memory, innovative and flexible thinking. Sleep also plays a
significant role in brain development. (Science n. pag.) Sleeping not only refreshes the brain but also
allows the brain to be more rational. Sleep allows the brain to chemically function more efficiently.
The body needs sleep as much as the brain, sleep provides an opportunity for the body to repair and
rejuvenate itself (Sleep Anyway n. pag.) Another explanation for why we sleep is based on the long
held belief that sleep in some way serves to restore what is lost in the body while we are wake. (Sleep
Anyway n. pag.) Since we burn calories while moving, we replenish those calories by in taking more
calories. You can think of the body and sleep the same way. Since we burn energy from being awake
and moving around, we can replenish that energy by sleeping. Everyone knows a lack of sleep can
affect them in many ways, from being grumpy to falling asleep throughout the day. A lack of

Field Crop Disease Technical Paper
Field Crop Disease Technical Paper By, Nic Petrykowski Disease discription: Rhizomania is a disease
of sugar beets that has foliar and root symptoms. The most distinct foliar symptom is chlorotic patches
in the field that can be observed from the ground. It is possible that plants may just wilt or become
stunted without other obvious foliar symptoms. Upon closer inspection other symptoms can be noted.
The foliage exhibits a lemon yellow or lettuce green tint. The veins on the midribs of leaves exhibit
yellowing. The petioles of leafs appear elongated with narrow leaf laminae. The root symptoms, what
the disease is named for, rhizomania translates to root madness . The symptoms of this madness
include a dark brown bearded appearance near the root tip, constriction of roots, pale yellow or dark
brown discoloration of vascular tissue when cut in a transverse section, or nodules (tumors). It is rare
for all root symptoms to appear on a single plant. Tolerant cultivars will exhibit less symptoms, unless
disease pressure is extremely high (Beet necrotic yellow vein virus benyvirus). This disease is very
destructive especially when plants are infected with the virus early on. It is common that more than
half the yield is lost, losses of up to 80% are even possible. (Mcgrahn R.D.G., Grimmer M.K., Mutasa
Gottgens E.S., Stevens M., 2009) Pathogen: The virus responsible for rhizomania, beet necrotic

Winn-Texie Lessons
The lessons of this learning segment build on one another as the week goes on. All of the lessons are a
part of a Because of Winn Dixie unit for Fourth grade. The first lesson begins with the first chapter of
the lesson and the introduction of visualization as a strategy to aid in comprehension. This flows
nicely into the next day because the students will follow the same read then work pattern in the lesson.
The second lesson focuses on character actions and reactions through the reading of the first two
chapters. Students can use what they visualized in lesson one to help them with character actions. The
third lesson builds on the character knowledge by delving deeper into the specific character traits that
each character possesses. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
315 317) was used throughout the lesson in order to give the students an example of how to use the
strategies that were taught. Before children would work on assignments alone, the teacher would
model exactly what is expected of them, and keep examples of what was modeled during the lesson so
the students could look back to it if they need to. Read alouds (Cooper, 2015, p. 37) were used in this
lesson to really help children to focus on certain topics of the text. Sometimes the best way to help
children understand a particular piece of text is to read it aloud to them and discuss it with them
(Cooper, 2015, p. 37). Think alouds (Cooper, 2015, p. 30) were incorporated into this lesson when
trying to explain how to use the strategy of character mapping. Think alouds are a great way to explain
to students how to use a specific skill or strategy so that they can have a better time comprehending it.
Semantic maps (Cooper, 2015, p.83) were used in this lesson for brainstorming ideas from the text to
later reference when making illustrations and creating short responses to the text. This strategy is also
a great tool for second language learners because it helps to narrow down the specific parts in the text
to help create more details of the topic being taught. Cooperative popcorn sequencing(Annenburg
Learner, 2015) was used in the lesson to allow a variety of students to participate in the

  • 2. Mary Ainsworth Attachment Theory The first years are an important stage in an child s life. They are learning an abundance of information about themselves and the people and world around them. During this time when there is a great amount of development taking place, one of the major components is establishing some sort of attachment with their primary caregivers. There are two different perspectives on the attachment to consider. Those of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, who emphasized the importance of infants creating relationships to have a healthy up bringing for later adulthood. Matos, Pinto Gouveia, and Costa (2013) agree that, early relationships are crucial to human brain maturation, well being, affect regulation and self other schema (p.149). On the other hand, ... Certainly, Watson was concerned with teaching parents how to produce a child who finally enters manhood so bulwarked with stable work and emotional habits that no adversity can quite overwhelm him (Watson Watson, 1928, p.10). As mentioned before, Watson s views on raising children was not the most ideal. Children would not learn how to properly cope with life s challenges because they were ultimately left to learn on their own, and no one can learn without being taught or influenced. In fact, Dickerson and Kemeny (2004) refer to any form of neglect, rejection, criticism, and/or harsh parenting styles, are related to threat systems , where the child may not have feelings of safety or security to help their well being. For example, a child who is constantly being criticized for spelling incorrectly can develop constant doubt in themselves as to when they do or don t spell a word correctly. The child can feel shameful for their actions if it is projected towards other things they do as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Evil Eye Among The Azande I. Introduction This extended essay will involve a comparison of ethnographic material from two case studies, E. E. Evans Pritchard s, Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande (Oxford 1937) and V. For example, when Pritchard paid the two different witchdoctors to teach his servant all their secrets, when he acknowledges that the custom is that the teachings have to be strictly confidential to someone who is particularly interested in proceeding his career as a witch doctor. In addition, woman s position in the Zande society is a very briefly mentioned aspect when on the contrary, Chryssanthopoulou being a female anthropologist, has a frequency to mention only claims of women about the Evil Eye. However; it might be the case that men among the Azande are more involved with witchcraft than women and respectively in reverse in the Castellorizian community. Also, Chryssanthopoulou is a follower of the Greek Orthodox Church that as mentioned above, accepts the Evil Eye concept. Finally, it should be mentioned that Evans Pritchard being a British studied the Azande when they were under a great change because of the British rule, but again the topic is only briefly mentioned in the ethnography. Evans Pritchard s work Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande was the first ethnography that tried to understand the native s set of belief when in their own context and not through a Westerner s eye. It was him that first criticized and disposed of the thought that there existed a particularly primitive, prelogical mentality. His point was to investigate the interrelationships of thought and ... The Religious Freedom Restoration Act The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) is a federal law that was set up to protect the free exercise of religion, as an undeniable right, protected by the First Amendment. Easy enough, right however, it seems can be interpreted in different ways, some depending on what your beliefs are i.e., religious or secular. Such as in the legal case of Burwell (U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services) vs. Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby argued that they should not have to pay for contraceptives for their employees as part of their healthcare because contraceptives such as the emergency contraception went against their religious beliefs because is an abortifacient. I went into this with an open mind as I really didn t follow the case at the time and really didn t know too much about it. I also did really know too much about what RFRA was from a legal point of view. To help me fully understand I found the syllabus from this case in which part of the first paragraph says: The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA) prohibits the Government [from] substantially burden [ing] a person s exercise of religion even if the burden results from a rule of general applicability unless the Government demonstrates that application of the burden to the person (1) is in furtherance of a compelling government interest; and (2) is the least restrictive means of furthering that compelling government interest. • 7. The Themes Of Courage In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak Themes are inserted within literature by the author in an attempt to provoke readers to think about the topic provided. In the novel, The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak, many topics are presents, such as, courage, suffering, and human behavior. The most prevalent, however, is the courage possessed by certain individuals. This theme, bravery, is evident throughout the entire course of the novel in Liesel Meminger, the Hubermanns, and Max Vandenburg. Liesel Meminger, coined The Book Thief , exhibits extraordinary acts of courage within the literary work. Since birth, Meminger has faced hardships; she deals with the absence of her father, the death of her younger brother, and the abandonment by her mother all within several years. These adversities lead to the development of Meminger s courageous nature, which she displays throughout the novel. Acts of her courage include stealing books and trusting the Hubermanns After attending her brother s funeral, Liesel notices that one of the gravediggers has dropped a novel. Looking around to make sure no one is watching her, she collects the book and hides it; stealing this book ignites the fire and desire inside of her to learn how to read and expand her knowledge. After Liesel Meminger arrives to the Hubermanns house in Molching, Germany, she has to be coaxed out of the car. Finally, Hans Hubermann, later known as Papa, is the successor in luring the child out of the car, he immediately gains her trust, unlike his cold counterpart, Rosa Hubermann. Despite Rosa s foul mouth and direct orders, Saumensch. You call me Mama when you talk to me (Zusak 35), Liesel eventually learns to trust and love her. Learning to love and to trust the Hubermanns shows how courageous Liesel truly is since she had previously faced the abandonment/death of two parents. Hans and Rosa Hubermann are driven by bravery throughout the entire course of The Book Thief and are perhaps the most courageous characters within the novel. Hans Hubermann defies the Furher (the leader Hitler) by not joining the Nazi Party, despite the amount of pride that is supposed to be associated with it. Ravenna s prosperous past is evident in its wealth of still standing examples of Byzantine art and architecture. The surrounding marshes provided a natural line of defense and its location at the crossroads of the northern and southern peninsula made it exceptionally challenging to capture. These were all influences in its allure as a bastion of control. ?The exact date of Roman control remains a mystery, as much of Ravenna?s past, although the first record of a Roman fleet to reach the city was in 82 BC. Caesar chose Ravenna as his headquarters while negotiating with the Senate and later as his base when launching various military campaigns on surrounding areas. While there, he is thought to have begun construction on the port of Classe (initially known as Classis), which served as the catalyst for Ravenna s first rise to greatness. Emperor Octavius Augustus oversaw the port?s completion and, realizing its strategic location, made the port the principal base for a fleet, 250 ships strong, to defend the ?Adriatic Sea and the waters of the near eastern Mediterranean (History, par. 9). Augustus also created a canal, known as the Fossa Augusta, linking the port to the southern branch of the Po. This canal permitted waters to flow around the city walls to fortify Ravenna?s defense and through the center of the town to facilitate transport and commerce. With the port as the focus of the city, Ravenna flourished as a town of trade and industry (especially ship building). Though the port?s value waned by the sixth century ... Generally, when people look deeply into his text they can find that he is usually sending a message to society about how gender roles and it is common for him to play with them. In these three shows Dollhouse and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, and Firefly he takes gender roles and moves them around at will. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this is seen so often because the entire show is based around it. You have buffy this strong and witty girl who run s around slaying vampires. As much as Buffy defied him to he still was going no matter what she said so she just backed down. Then when they get there and confront him Xander is basically useless. He just stands there helpless while Buffy saves the day. Another episode of Buffy that is a good example of this would be in episode 4. What those people fail to realize is that they are not much different from those activists. As Socrates believed, we as humans are all capable and obligated to think and ask questions. Those leaders were simply regular people who explored the belief system and mindset of those around them and challenged those beliefs in order to bring attention to the injustice in the world. Humans are indebted to think logically, defy social norms and grow confident in their beliefs in order to progress as a whole. During our class seminars, the socratic method was brought up as a prevention for this. In order to use the Socratic Method, one must start off with a hypothesis and find counterexamples to disprove their hypothesis. Once he or she establishes faults in their hypothesis, they must revise it and repeat the process until it is almost impossible to disprove. Doing this seems stressful and challenging because it is hard to question your own beliefs versus questioning the beliefs of those around you. When questioning ourselves, we become defensive because we are exposing ourselves and becoming vulnerable to the idea that we may not know everything that we think we know; essentially we are poking at our own ego. Going back to Socrates and the idea that an unexamined life is not worth living, I believe that ignorance truly is a mindset. The only way a society can undergo a change is if people examine themselves and the aftermath is many others doing the same. Therefore, enlightened eugenics calls for the education on the basis of minimalist eugenics while responsible eugenics would use reliable genetic tests in order to avoid neurological diseases and prevent the previously mentioned dangers caused by laissez faire eugenics. Kitcher s view of utopian eugenics envisions a society in which genetics allow people to make free and educated reproductive choices and in which the education broadens an understanding of the likely quality of a modest life. Contrary to Kitcher s minimalist model that constrains eugenic decisions only to avoid neurological diseases, Gregory Stock s position in the debate defends maximalist eugenics in which individuals have total free eugenic decision making, including enhancement, without any state coercion. He wants readers to accept and adopt such a position by arguing that genetic engineering such as selecting and alternating embryos is an inevitable future and human destiny (7, Stock, CC p.279). For example, if redesigning humans became commonplace, Stock reasons that parents would give their children endowments they desire but could not otherwise obtain and thus further expand life s possibilities to the next generation (8, Stock, CC p.276). Passengers are willing to give up their comfort and other in flight services such as entertainment and during their journey for low ticket prices. However, over the past few decades, operating long haul flights was not to the advantage of these budget airlines. If all units were sold within the first year (which is highly unlikely), a congregate care facility would provide more cash upfront with a smaller amount of monthly income moving forward. However, the assisted living facility has a higher annual PGI after the first year. Ideally, assuming a market was available for congregate care, it would take roughly 20 years for the income from assisted living to reach the income received from congregate care. Table 1: Annual PGI Congregate Care Facility Table 2: Annual PGI Assisted Living Facility 4. Given the assisted living option, what does the development budget look like? Compare And Contrast Gothic Elements In Dr Fbeth In this essay I will identify and discuss two corresponding Gothic elements that are present in the play, Dr Faustus and the film, The Devil s Advocate. I will also refer to how these elements add to the abjection of the main character. The corresponding Gothic elements that I will use is Evil Deeds Leading to the Downfall of a character and also Passion Drive, Willful Villain Hero or Villain. In the play Dr Faustus; Faustus is a clever scholar from Germany, whose desire for knowledge and wealth makes him eager to pay the final price; his soul; to Lucifer to trade for supernatural powers. In the beginning Faustus s greatness is dismissed by the fact that he never seems fully sure of his decision to surrender his soul and wonders the whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 44. The Human Body And Body Needs Sleep Meagan Hasselbeck English 10 Mrs. Wintrow 10 April 2015 How The Human Body Reacts To Sleep. Everyone knows the human body needs sleep. For some people, sleep is what they enjoy most, but why do human beings need sleep? Why is the urge to collapse into the warm safety of our beds so tempting? Why are we so grumpy when we don t get enough sleep? Sleeping isn t only relaxing but it is also helpful to your brain and body. We have to sleep because it is essential to maintaining normal levels of cognitive skills such as speech, memory, innovative and flexible thinking. Sleep also plays a significant role in brain development. (Science n. pag.) Sleeping not only refreshes the brain but also allows the brain to be more rational. Sleep allows the brain to chemically function more efficiently. The body needs sleep as much as the brain, sleep provides an opportunity for the body to repair and rejuvenate itself (Sleep Anyway n. pag.) Another explanation for why we sleep is based on the long held belief that sleep in some way serves to restore what is lost in the body while we are wake. (Sleep Anyway n. pag.) Since we burn calories while moving, we replenish those calories by in taking more calories. You can think of the body and sleep the same way. Since we burn energy from being awake and moving around, we can replenish that energy by sleeping. Everyone knows a lack of sleep can affect them in many ways, from being grumpy to falling asleep throughout the day. A lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Field Crop Disease Technical Paper Field Crop Disease Technical Paper By, Nic Petrykowski Disease discription: Rhizomania is a disease of sugar beets that has foliar and root symptoms. The most distinct foliar symptom is chlorotic patches in the field that can be observed from the ground. It is possible that plants may just wilt or become stunted without other obvious foliar symptoms. Upon closer inspection other symptoms can be noted. The foliage exhibits a lemon yellow or lettuce green tint. The veins on the midribs of leaves exhibit yellowing. The petioles of leafs appear elongated with narrow leaf laminae. The root symptoms, what the disease is named for, rhizomania translates to root madness . The symptoms of this madness include a dark brown bearded appearance near the root tip, constriction of roots, pale yellow or dark brown discoloration of vascular tissue when cut in a transverse section, or nodules (tumors). It is rare for all root symptoms to appear on a single plant. Tolerant cultivars will exhibit less symptoms, unless disease pressure is extremely high (Beet necrotic yellow vein virus benyvirus). This disease is very destructive especially when plants are infected with the virus early on. It is common that more than half the yield is lost, losses of up to 80% are even possible. (Mcgrahn R.D.G., Grimmer M.K., Mutasa Gottgens E.S., Stevens M., 2009) Pathogen: The virus responsible for rhizomania, beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYVV) is vectored by an ... • 46. Winn-Texie Lessons The lessons of this learning segment build on one another as the week goes on. All of the lessons are a part of a Because of Winn Dixie unit for Fourth grade. The first lesson begins with the first chapter of the lesson and the introduction of visualization as a strategy to aid in comprehension. This flows nicely into the next day because the students will follow the same read then work pattern in the lesson. The second lesson focuses on character actions and reactions through the reading of the first two chapters. Students can use what they visualized in lesson one to help them with character actions. The third lesson builds on the character knowledge by delving deeper into the specific character traits that each character possesses. The ... Before children would work on assignments alone, the teacher would model exactly what is expected of them, and keep examples of what was modeled during the lesson so the students could look back to it if they need to. Read alouds (Cooper, 2015, p. 37) were used in this lesson to really help children to focus on certain topics of the text. Sometimes the best way to help children understand a particular piece of text is to read it aloud to them and discuss it with them (Cooper, 2015, p. 37). Think alouds (Cooper, 2015, p. 30) were incorporated into this lesson when trying to explain how to use the strategy of character mapping. Think alouds are a great way to explain to students how to use a specific skill or strategy so that they can have a better time comprehending it. Semantic maps (Cooper, 2015, p.83) were used in this lesson for brainstorming ideas from the text to later reference when making illustrations and creating short responses to the text. This strategy is also a great tool for second language learners because it helps to narrow down the specific parts in the text to help create more details of the topic being taught. Cooperative popcorn sequencing(Annenburg Learner, 2015) was used in the lesson to allow a variety of students to participate in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
