Galapagos Essay
Kurt Vonnegut s Galapagos was written one million years ahead of the year 1986 AD. In this book,
Vonnegut argues that the ultimate effect of humanity s sociological problems with technology is that
man s intelligence will be the downfall and destruction of the human race. The essential point made by
Vonnegut in this work is that the quot;great big brains quot; of humanity drives people to go further
into technology and create new weapons that will lead to the demolition of man kind; Vonnegut
disagreed against virtually every technological development (made by big brains ).
It was the humans big brains that always gave them foolish or reckless ideas that almost always had
negative results. Though it may tell the rest of your body to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Vonnegut s cast of unlikely Adams and Eves setting out on an evolutionary journey includes Mary
Hepburn, an American biology teacher and recent widow; Zenji Hiroguchi, a Japanese computer
genius (who doesn t make it to the ship, although his language translating and quotation spouting
computer does); his wife, Hisako, carrying radiated genes from the atomic bombs; James Wait, who
has made a fortune marrying elderly women; and Captain Aolph von Kleist, the Captain of the Bahia
de Darwin; also included were six orphaned girls of the Kanka bono tribe, who became the founding
mothers of the fisher folk after a bacteria determined all other women infertile. This small group of
survivors stranded on the Galapagos Islands are about to become the procreators of a courageous,
heroic, fresh, and totally different human race.
I agree with Kurt Vonnegut s argument that all mankind have these Big Brains because the focus of
society today is to have the latest technology to gain more power . Our big brains are no longer in
survival mode as it was with our ancestors. Today, our big brains follow what the media and
government deems necessary, be it in commercials, movies, radio, and music that constantly surrounds
us, leaving no room for our own decisions. Our big brains can influence us consciously,
unconsciously, and subconsciously in various decision making processes

Structural Formula Of Lexapro
Health Professionals make crucial decisions for prescriptions regarding pharmaceutical information.
Drug company promotional material is used by medical professionals to expand the knowledge of
certain prescriptions to their patients to secure a plan of action to treat their illness. The active
ingredient in Lexapro is Escitalopram oxalate. Escitalopram oxalate is an antidepressant in a drug
group called SSRI, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
The chemical name of Lexapro is Escitalopram. The IUPAC name is (1S) 1 [3 (dimethylamino)
propyl] 1 (4 fluorophenyl) 3H 2 benzofuran 5 carbonitrile, and the molecular formula is
C20H21FN2O.2 Lexapro is used for treating major anxiety and depression in adolescents and adults.
When diagnosed with depression, you lack the chemical serotonin. Serotonin is made in both the brain
and intestines, linking
Figure 1: Structural formula of Lexapro.
https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Escitalopram_oxalate#section=Top with your control of
your mood and other functions of your body. Lexapro works to boost the chemical activity of
Serotonin in your brain to mentally battle depression. The balancing act is created when serotonin is
released from one nerve cell and becomes available to the next. During this process, some of the
serotonin released is reabsorbed by the first nerve cell. Lexapro will block the re absorption of
serotonin into the first cell, which will eventually lead to an increased amount of serotonin to become
available.7

Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Ww1 Trenches
Of the numerous strategies used throughout World War 1 and 2 those in WW2 proved more effective
due to the standstill trench warfare brought, the ease with which trenches were defeated by tanks later
in the war, and the speed and efficiency widespread mechanized warfare and blitzkrieg gave to armies
in WW2.
In throughout WW1, trenches were used quite liberally along the front lines. As a strategy to prevent
advancement of the enemy s front lines trenches proved effective, however due to its widespread use
by both sides it prevented nearly any progression in the war for periods of time. The stagnation it
caused is a major reason why widespread use of the tactic was ineffectual. Dues to the long periods
troops stayed in trenches, which were quite unsanitary and muddy soldiers often contracted infectious
diseases or gangrene, pushing this tactic further into the reaches of inferior due to the harm it could
cause one s own troops. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tanks allowed a force to advance towards an enemy s lines with the protection of the armor and
playing a part in rendering trenches obsolete. The further advancement of tank technology following
WW1 cemented trench warfare s ineffectuality and obsolescence, as the vast majority of tank s flaws
were greatly improved.
The invention, improvement, and proliferation of tanks not only rendered numerous WW1 strategies
completely obsolete but gave rise to mechanized warfare. Mechanized warfare in its various forms
proved quite effective One specific type such as the highly mechanized blitzkrieg, allowed the Nazis
to very quickly and effectively overwhelm the defenses of nations during invasions prior to and early
in the Second World War. Besides Blitzkrieg, mechanized warfare in general, allowed battles to reach
a decisive conclusion quickly, meaning battles were often far shorter than in

Bacterial Vaginosis Case Studies
Bacterial Vaginosis
Last year I experience for the first time a bacterial vaginosis. It was horrible; a long month of intense
itch, soreness and burning whenever I urinated or had intercourse. My mother recommended I try
some over the counter antifungal cream, I purchase Monistat 7 ( Miconazole Nitrate 2%) and it
worked great. I have not had reoccurrence of bacterial vaginosis but I have heard it is very common to
experience a relapse.
Occurs when there is disequilibrium of normal vaginal flora where Lactobacilli decreases in
population below normal and there is an increase of other bacteria. Three common microorganisms
believed to be present and causing agents for bacterial vaginosis include Candida albicans,
Gardnerella vaginalis and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bacterial vaginosis but rather a signal of microbial imbalance.

Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety
Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety
Abstract
This report delves into the connection between childhood separation anxiety disorder and the long
term implications that it may have. To understand the connections I preformed secondary research
through Academic Search Complete . I found that childhood separation anxiety disorder is connected
with serious mental disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, social phobias, depression, and behavior
disorders. Many studies have shown that childhood separation anxiety disorder is linked to eating
disorders and depression. Research shows that cortisol, the hormone our body releases to deal with
stress, can negatively affect our overall health. Childhood separation anxiety disorder can ... Show

The study stated that there was a stronger correlation between childhood separation anxiety disorder
and anorexia than there was between childhood separation anxiety disorder and bulimia.
Cortisol has been shown to have the greatest effect on the health of a person. Cortisol is a hormone
released in stressful situations. Cortisol levels in young children have been shown to increase when
the child is left in the care of someone they are unfamiliar with and when they attempt to interact or
play with large groups of other children. (Turvett 2008) Lack of control in a situation is associated
with a lack of recovery of cortisol, which can lead to a range of negative health effects. (Ursin 2004)
Discussion
The main purpose of my research was to find the association between childhood separation anxiety
disorder and mental disorders in adolescents and adults. Based on the results, high stress levels and
childhood separation anxiety disorder can be used to predict mental and psychiatric disorders later in a
child s life. When a child experiences the symptoms of separation anxiety disorder their body releases
hormones and if these hormones are heightened or too frequent the child has a higher risk of eating
disorders, depression, anxiety, and behavior disorders throughout the adolescence and adulthood
stages of their life.

The only people who should have known this data were Officer Kripke and Dr. Aiden Hobbes, the
coroner. While Officer Kripke questioned him, Beck mentioned almost exactly the cause of Anne s
death. No one could know these details except the officer, coroner, or the murderer themselves. After
getting into the principal s office, Beck almost immediately... said how sad it was that Anne hit her
head and died. I knew that no one beside myself and the M.E. knew anything about Anne s head
wound. I had not told anyone, not even Anne s parents, (Kripke 10). Beck was certain of how Anne
died when no one outside of the station was supposed to know. Not even Anne s parents had been
notified. Beck attempted to backpedal and stated I mentioned that I assumed she had fallen from the
cliff and possibly hit her head, (Martin 16). While being questioned, Beck let slip almost the exact
way that Anne died according to the highly qualified coroner, Dr. Hobbes. Beck later shrugs it off as a
lucky guess, but guesses of that accuracy are extremely rare. It is improbable that Beck simply
guessed the cause of death without knowing anything. Dr. Hobbes, in his professional opinion,
believed that Anne Marcus was struck on the side of the head... she died about 8:30 pm, (Hobbes

The Stressful Stigma Of Infertility
The Stressful Stigma of Infertility In the United States, it is estimated that infertility affects 7.4% to
15% of men and women of reproductive age (Lewis, Liu, Stuart, Ryan, 2013). Infertility is defined as
failure to conceive after at least 1 year of attempting to achieve a pregnancy with unprotected
intercourse. (Lewis et al., 2013). These issues have been increasing in industrialized countries over the
past half century, and couples facing these concerns often undergo assisted reproductive technologies
(ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). These
processes are designed to allow couples to have healthy babies who are usually born at full term.
Approximately 30% result in the pregnancy of multiples, most often twins (Ottosen et al., 2009).
However, there is definitive evidence showing that women undergoing assisted reproductive
technologies often experience feelings of depression and anxiety. These feelings can stem from
multiple sources, including the social construction of gender and motherhood, the power relationship
between a woman and her partner, or other significant aspects of her social position such as
socioeconomic status. Understanding these issues can change the current process of assisted
reproductive technology and help give agency to women who might want to undergo fertility
treatments. In a study conducted by Volgsten, Skoog Svanberg, Ekselius, Lundkvist, and Sundstrom

Linguistics Conversation Analysis On Women Essay
Linguistics Conversation Analysis Anadelia Dominguez November 21st, 2016 Professor Burke Fresno
State Since the beginning of time, women have been thought of as less when compared to men. In
fact, women are constantly having to fight for equality whether that be equality in opportunities or
equality in the workforce including wages or certain jobs. Language is no different, women use
different language than men. In fact, according to Candance West and Don H. Zimmerman s article
Women s Place in Everyday Talk, women and children speak in a similar fashion. In a nutshell,
women and children share the same concept of powerless language while men sit on a higher pedestal
when it comes to language. Research has shown that some of the biggest differences in speech
between men and women are that women tend to ask more questions, use tag questions with more
frequency, and overemphasize more often. These are only some of the characteristics of women s
language (O Barr and Atkins, 1980, p. 453). Men on the other hand, tend to interrupt more often, they
may also overlap speech, and are said to swear more in conversations (West and Zimmerman, 1983, p.
146). The characteristics of both genders mentioned above, were the characteristics that dominated the
conversation which was analyzed. They were used with more frequency when compared to others
listed in the textbook which is why the emphasis of this analysis will be on these unique
characteristics. For

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood sugar (glucose) levels,

factors, including common unavoidable viral infections, may also contribute. Type 1 diabetes is most
common in people of non Hispanic, Northern European descent, followed by African Americans, and
Hispanic Americans. It is relatively rare in those of Asian descent. Type 1 diabetes is slightly more
common in men than in women (Emedicine Health, 2011, para. 3). Type 2 diabetes is a genetic
condition and runs in families that have a positive family history of this condition. American Heart
Association states, This type of diabetes can occur under two different circumstances: the pancreas
doesn t make enough insulin, or the body develops insulin resistance and can t make efficient use of
the insulin it makes (American Heart Association, 2010). In relation to possible risk factors of type 2

high blood pressure, high blood triglyceride (fat) levels, gestational diabetes or giving birth to a baby
weighing more than 9 pounds, high fat diet, high alcohol intake, sedentary lifestyle, obesity or being

Taking a Look at Exotic Options
Introduction
Ideally we would want to find closed form solutions for all exotic options. As the payoff structures of
the exotic options become more complicated, so does the difficulty in finding closed form solutions.
In most cases closed form solutions do not exist, eg. American barrier options and these must be
valued by using numerical methods.
The lattice methods, i.e. binomial and trinomial trees, assume that the underlying stochastic process is
discrete, i.e. the underlying asset can change to a finite number of values (each associated with a
certain probability) with a small advancement in time.
Pricing barrier options using lattice techniques can be quite delicate. While the use of a large number
of time steps may produce accurate solutions for standard options, the use of the same number of time
steps in valuing barrier options will often produce erroneous option values. The source of the problem
arises from the location of barrier with respect to adjacent layers of nodes in the lattice. If the barrier
falls between layers of the lattice, the errors may be quite significant.
Ritchken [1995] provides a highly efficient algorithm which produces a lattice where the nodes hit the
barrier.
Options
A plain normal option is called a Vanilla Option. An option is a financial contract which gives its
owner a right, but not an obligation to sell or purchase an asset at a later stage during the lifetime of
the asset. The asset mentioned herein can be anything from stocks,

Compare how Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen communicate the theme of loss in Out, Out and
Disabled .
In the two poems Out, Out and Disabled , a similar theme of loss is portrayed. Both of these poems
deal with the subject of physical loss, as both protagonists of these poems experience accidental
amputation. Both Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen manage to captivate their audience s attention, and
also a certain degree of sympathy for the protagonists misfortune. They do this successfully, with the
use of common literary techniques and linguistic skills, such as simile, metaphor, personification,
contrast, and many more literary devices, which range from obvious to very subtle.

Within such a short sentence, the boy s life was simply gone. This use of tripling is very effective, as it
may symbolise a heartbeat, slowly beating away, to its fate. The dashes further enhance this, as they
make the reader pause in the gaps between the words, making the heartbeats seem further and further
apart, and eventually dying away. Another quote which gives the reader a sense of loss is the final
stanza of the poem: And they, since they were not the ones dead, turned to their affairs , in line 33 34.
This quote, to put into simpler words, means that the people who were working with this young boy
(who happen to be his family), had better things to do than to care for the death of this young boy, and
simply turned away, and got back to work. This action seems alarmingly heartless, but nevertheless,
Frost very successfully makes the jreaders feel a huge sense of loss. This line once again shows how
meaningless and vulnerable life is.
Written in the 1910s by Wilfred Owen, Disabled is a poem describing the experience of a young
soldier losing his limbs after fighting in World War I. He later gets discriminated against, and feels
isolated and regretful of his naïve reason to go to war. As opposed to Out, Out , Disabled does not
have an ambiguous title at all. The word disabled is

Paul s Flattery Essay
As an orator or public speaker the level of professionalism you exuberant is vital, otherwise, you stand
to face criticism, mainly by highly esteemed philosophers and city leaders.
Anyone who was not forthcoming with their intentions and used flattery was perceived to be looking
to secure money from the hearers. Feeling strongly towards orators and their deceit, Plato criticized
them as a sort of merchant or dealer in provisions on which the soul is nourished. Plato also refused to
give the name of art to anything that is irrational and said, if you dispute my views, I am ready to give
my reasons. 2 The opinions and views set a tough stage for Paul to enter a city and begin to proclaim

Flattery came with false motives to cover up any greed. Instead, Paul came with authentic material
and because of this there was no conviction of unoriginality1. There was no need to be disingenuous
because his professionalism was directed by the Holy Spirit. If Paul used flattery it would ruin his
perception and the abilities of God. Furthermore, flattery seems neither reputable nor honorable even
when practiced gaining distinction.3 Paul came with encouragement while greeting the Thessalonians
and Corinthians. Paul told the Thessalonian church he was not there for financial gain or in vain.
There was no attempt being made to deceive, or flatter (1 Th 2:1 5).4 Orators came promising to
benefit their hearers culturally with public declarations, benefactions, and advice.1 When Paul returns
to Thessalonica he continues to address them with thanksgiving and not seeking glory for himself or

The Standard American Business Suit Essay
It s happened to all of us. You re standing in front of your closet, staring into the deep abyss of
clothing in front of you. In a frantic search to find a suitable outfit for the day, you shuffle through the
myriad amounts of color options in front of you. Mystical teals, burnt oranges and chocolaty browns
fill your gaze. You just cannot seem to find anything that you would feel comfortable wearing for the
day. In terms of style, color is the cornerstone. Many, however, lack the ability to color coordinate.
The color of what we wear can exude an impact much greater than we could even define. The topic of
the unspoken language of color will allow those who are less fashionable to gain an understanding of
the silent essence their clothing gives off. The unspoken social language of color is one that relays
who we are. It can emit our emotions, our personality and allow us to relive eras of our humanity. The
standard American business suit is an example. Following a basic formula, it involves a grey suit,
white shirt, deep toned tie, and white pocket square with either black shoes. The dark tones are closely
tied with authority and leadership. There are a handful of ways to play around with this, but if you
wish to convey the message that you re there for business, you ll stick to the basic formula. Substitute
the white shirt out for light blue, and suddenly the suit means something completely different. Drop

Urbanization In Idaho
A little family of four from Idaho owns a potato farm. The nearest neighbor is half a mile away. After
struggling to maintain the land and profit from their crops, they decide to sell the farm and move to

The Negative Influence Of Sharks In Our Culture
When people hear the word ocean many things come to mind, sandy beaches, waves, and many
happier enjoyable things. Another word that comes to mind when people think of the of the word
ocean is sharks, for some the thought of sharks in the ocean is enough to keep them out of the water.
Throughout history sharks have had a presence in media and in our culture. The shark culture in media
plays a large role in movies like sharknado, Jaws and many other unrealistic shark movies. Sharks also
are a part of many different cultures. In the food chain and animal kingdom there are over 400
different shark species. Many of the well known shark species are the whale shark, great white shark,
bull shark and hammerhead sharks. Sharks can be all different ... Show more content on

The sharks that usually are portrayed in these movies are great white sharks. The larger the shark is
the more it is out for blood. In movies where there are sharks the sharks are very blood driven and of
large size. In the movie jaws the shark is large and in the events of the movie takes a large chunk out
of a boat by biting it. If jaws were an average and realistic sized shark, then biting the hole in the ship
would not have been possible. The shark s ability to damage and sink a large man made item makes it
seem more monstrous and scary. Sharks are very powerful apex predators, like many animals they are
made up of mainly muscle. When sharks attack people or other animals they do a lot of damage, when
combined the shark s strength and sharp teeth are dangerous. With the unlikely event of a shark attack
how they seem and are portrayed in media gives them a bad image. Victims of shark attacks, when

Philos, Eros, Agape Love in Religion Essay
Philia, eros, and agape are three different Greek terms for the word. These three terms explain the
different types of love a human being can acquire. Philia is a love of friendship, which is grounded in
commonality. However, eros is a kind of love that seeks something from the other person or thing.
Lastly, agape is the love that wills the good of the other and is completely self giving. The meanings
of these Greek terminologies, philia, eros, and agape, allow us to better understand and discuss our
relationship with God and human fulfillment. In order to find human fulfillment, one must find God of
Jesus Christ as well. Erotic loving is our desire for this fulfillment, which can be seen through eros.
Human nature can be simply defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sartre attested that the human being is a useless passion due to our insatiable desires. Markedly,
human beings desire to retain the infinite and that need is simply impossible. For the search for the
unlimited is tiresome and unappeasable. Conversely, there is an alternate way of looking at eros. In
order to have hope, God has to appear to human life as not a receding horizon but an absolute savior.
Human beings long for the truth and due to the constraints of science and history, Jesus is seen in an
alternate way because he is no longer limited by space or time. In this case, Karl Rahner and Saint
Augustine both agree that God always initiates the relationship with human life. Namely, they asserted
that we are constantly drawn to God and God is not drawn to us. Because of this, we have the option
of forming a better relationship with God. Rahner said that God dispenses his grace to all human
beings of every religion in and God is continually accepting. Chiefly, it is not God s choice to accept
or deny us, for that is not his matter . Anthony De Mello describes another explanation of human
fulfillment to us. He explains to us that in order to have human fulfillment, we must detach ourselves
from our worldly attachments. As human beings, we allow ourselves to believe that we cannot be
happy without a certain thing or person in our life. Thus, that is not

Digital And Social Media Analysis
DSMM:
Digital and Social media tools/website:
Netflix/TVNZ ondemand: The reason why streaming the shows using Netflix would be the best idea
to show is they have their own Netflix Kid section where they are all child friendly , it provides the
platform to watch whenever the children is able to do on their free time and you can go back and forth
to see the previous steps if the child is lost on what the next step should be like. Adding on, more than
80% of American under the age 35 have Netflix (Harwell,2016), this would potentially be parents who
uses Netflix with children which would then result to us having to use Netflix.

Communication and creative strategy:
Instagram has been one of the most popular apps in the world that this will be have to be a compulsory
social media strategy to gain attraction amongst our target audience (Salleh et al., 2015). This is a

Facebook is one of the most used websites currently, that this is another passage for us to

Another difference is majority of abuser are men and the abused will be a women. Screening any type
of jealousy, control, and manipulations will set the abuser apart from the abused. An individual who is
abused will have characteristics of insecurities, low self esteem, trust issues, and withdrawn
symptoms. This can happen from the effects of mental or physical abuse.
Screening a child for abuse or neglect can be difficult at times because the child is not fully
development to understand what is wrong and right especially when the abuser is a family member the
child trust. Screening a child can takes months sometimes to fully understand the characteristics that
are shown. Examples of the patterns are; not able to show affection, having continuous nightmares,
fear of touch, regression to common childlike behavior, and fear of individuals and environments. The
characteristics of an abuse child or neglected are; withdrawn symptoms, violent, depressed, and
fearful. These characteristics have to be evaluating carefully to ensure there is not a disability that the
child is suffering or the child just wants to be defiant. When child maltreatment is suspected, going
through such a list will narrow down suspicions. Remember, there are many reasons for each behavior
and characteristic that is found in a checklist. Even when a child exhibits several of the identified

The Reasons Of Non Compliance
IV. The reasons of non compliance
Due to the fact, the board dismissed Steven Sewell from CEO because his characteristics are not
suitable with the characteristics of new board. This reason is very subjective and unreasonable. This
paper would not examine the unreasonable reason from the board of FDC as above, but will observe
the fact that the removal of a director by the board is not the first time happened. There are some
previous cases which are similar to the FDC case in which directors were dismissed by the board, such
as in the case of Allied Mining Processing Ltd v Boldbow Pty Ltd ( Allied v Boldbow ), Central
Exchange Ltd v Rivkin Financial Services Ltd ( Central v Rivkin ), and Scottish Colonial Ltd v
Australian Power Gas Co Ltd ( Scottish v Australian Power ). In those three cases, the decision by the
judges is considerably different. In Allied v Boldbow and Central v Rivkin, the judges state that
Section 203D does not replace any other power of removal possessed by the company. Therefore, a
company could regulate in their constitution to dismiss a director without the need for a vote of
shareholders (in defined circumstances). Conversely, in Scottish v Australian Power, the judges
emphasise that Section 203D is mandatory, and therefore, the process of removal a director must
follow Section 203D. Due to those cases, it is clear that there are pro and contra about the dismissal of
a director as stipulated in the Section 203D. One side argues that

Similarities Between Funeral And Pericles Funeral
We often like to think that over the course of two millennia we change a lot. In many ways we do, our
technology advances, we become more knowledgeable, and we as people evolve. However, we do not
evolve in every way that we perhaps should. An example we can look at to see the ways some things
have not changed much through examining two similar documents. Written in drastically different
time periods, you would not think Lincoln s Gettysburg Address and Pericles s Epitaph would really
have much in common. The two funeral orations do share their fair share of similarities in addition to
their differences, though. To understand how the two documents compare we must first look at the
context of both the Epitaph and the Gettysburg Address. Pericles s Epitaph was written roughly 2,000
years ago during the beginning of the Peloponnesian Wars. It comes to us through Thucydides in his
history The Peloponnesian War. Pericles spoke after the first year of battle in the winter, and his
speech was delivered at a public funeral for all those that were slain during the war. This is why his
speech is often called the Funeral Oration of Pericles. He had been a general at the time and a natural
choice to deliver a speech on those who died in battle. In addition to his status though, Pericles had a
reputation for speaking only when it was truly important. Thus, the people would know how important
this speech was and more importantly they would get the message Pericles was trying to get

Intelligence In Odysseus
A hero is someone who exceeds the expectations and performs above and beyond the average person.
Odysseus from the epic poem The Odyssey, acts above and beyond his crew and the typical mortal.
Odysseus uses his intelligence throughout his journeys to further develop his courage allowing him to
be resilient in the time of crisis arguing he is a hero.
Odysseus uses intelligence to guide him on his tricky journey home to Ithaca establishing that he is a
hero. When Odysseus and his crew land on the land of the Cyclops, they get trapped in a cave with a
human eating Cyclops named Polyphemus. Polyphemus turns hostile and becomes a serious threat to
Odysseus and his crews chance of returning home. Odysseus uses his intelligence to get out of the
disastrous situation by getting the Cyclops drunk and then blinding Polyphemus by using a stake with
its fiery tip (Homer 9.443) and thrusting it into the single eye on the Cyclops. Odysseus keen sense of
intelligence allows him to predict that Polyphemus would try to get help from his Cyclops neighbors
so he plans ahead telling Polyphemus, Nobody that s my name. Nobody so my mother and father call
me, all my friends (Homer 9.410 411). Odysseus, although physically strong, understands that
outthinking an opponent often leads to victory and in the incident with the cyclops this theory held
true. Odysseus predicted that once he burned the eye, Polyphemus would scream out in pain notifying
his neighbors that something was wrong.

(652) 1. An emergency department nurse is assessing a client who has sustained a blunt injury to the
chest wall. Which of these signs would indicate the presence of a pneumothorax in this client? *
Diminished breath sounds
Rationale: This client has sustained a blunt or a closed chest injury. Basic symptoms of a closed
pneumothorax are shortness of breath and chest pain. A larger pneumothorax may cause tachypnea,
cyanosis, diminished breath sounds, and subcutaneous emphysema. Hyperresonance also may occur
on the affected side. A sucking sound at the site of injury would be noted with an open chest injury.

fractured rib. The nurse would expect to note which of the following? * Pain, especially with
inspiration * Rationale: Rib fractures are a common injury, especially in the older client, and result
from a blunt injury or a fall. Typical signs and symptoms include pain and tenderness localized at the
fracture site and exacerbated by inspiration and palpation, shallow respirations, splinting or guarding
the chest protectively to minimize chest movement, and possible bruising at the fracture site.
Paradoxical respirations are seen with flail chest. * * (660) 9. A client with a chest injury has suffered
flail chest. A nurse assesses the client for which most distinctive sign of flail chest? * Paradoxical
chest movement * Rationale: Flail chest results from multiple rib fractures. This results in a floating
section of the ribs. Because this section is unattached to the rest of the bony rib cage, this segment
results in paradoxical chest movement. This means that the force of inspiration pulls the fractured
segment inward, while the rest of the chest expands. Similarly, during exhalation, the segment
balloons outward while the rest of the chest moves inward. This is a

The Similarities And Differences Between Jamestown And...
The founding of America s first two long lasting colonies kindled a sequence that helped to construct
not only the nation, but the world. The topic of whether Jamestown would be a better fit for a settler
than Plymouth or vice versa has sparked much controversy. Both share similarities and differences in
their early colonial settlements. Which settlement is superior? Although that question is up for debate,
there is one thing that is certain, it depends on who is settling into the colony. For this reason, a man
from Holland in search of a career in fishing and trading and an escape from religious persecution
would prefer Plymouth over Jamestown. To begin with, in 1607, 104 men arrived in what was later
called Jamestown, Virginia. Fatal problems soon emerged quickly after the settlement, mainly from
the first settlers own mistakes. The site choice for Jamestown was a fail. A swampy area along the ...

Beginning with the intention of moving to the New World, settlers from Jamestown were in search of
wealth in the New World and when reality struck, they did not handle labor well. On the contrary,
Pilgrims from Plymouth were looking for religious freedom and were hardworking when it came to
labor. Considering, that the Plymouth colony was cold and lacking in fertile soil, this caused the
Pilgrims in Plymouth to not be able to support and feed themselves using traditional farming
techniques, unlike Jamestown, whose colonists relied on farming. However, the colonists in Plymouth
were better off than those at Jamestown as a result of the lack of Native groups around the land
surrounding the settlement, as well as their cunning motives for establishing the colony, themselves.
The colonists of Plymouth were looking to build a working society and not misuse the land for
economic reasons like Jamestown. Because of the families and skilled workers, a genuine community

Racial Disparities In Criminal Courts
Racial Disparities in Criminal Courts
The earlier criminal courts started to punish those who committed a crime or differentiated from the
norms of society (NACM, 2017). It was a system put in place to keep order. In the 16th century , if the
person was found guilty, it was most likely going to result in a death sentence(NACM, 2017). Unlike
in modern criminal court, the accused was guilty until proven innocent. The earlier criminal courts
followed numerous laws that displayed discrimination until centuries later, philosophers and policy
maker, began to change the laws to try to assure all citizens rights were protected.
Criminal courts are made, to uphold the rights of citizens to have a fair trial when convicted of crime.
Criminal courts are the center of establishing order and creating justice in society (NACM, 2017). It is
the duty of the courtroom workgroup to assure that the convicted that step in the court has their due
process, which is individual s rights as a citizen such as a fair trial, jury trial, no discrimination,
exclusionary means, and other rights that are established in the amendments. Although the going rate ,
which is the normal way of handling crimes, is a consistent method of deciding sentencing, there are
many types of punishments that the guilty receives.
The initial purpose of punishments were to prevent others from committing crime and to discourage
felons from committing more crime. The most popular type of punishment is incapacitation,

Sexism In America Today
The article I read was You re Sexist. And So Am I from USA Today. This article went into discussing
how everyone has internalized sexism, believing in sexism in their head, whether they like to believe
it or not. This is because society teaches people norms that women must follow in order for them to be
respected. As we have discussed in class, this is the idea of subjectivity because all of these social
codes are predetermined and that makes them very difficult to change. One example of this was in the
article when it talked about how women often chose their careers around them someday becoming
mothers. Women are expected to have children and then take time off from work to raise their
children. No one believes that men should be expected to stay at home and raise children because it is
not the societal norm. Therefore when a woman chooses a career around impending motherhood, she
is falling into subjectivity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important aspect of this is how many women are being sexually objectified. The article said that
this is one way women internalized sexism because they believe if they do not wear promiscuous
clothing that they are safe from sexual predators. However, no women would flat out say another
woman was assaulted due to her clothing, they are often thinking about their own clothing choices if
they were in that situation. Furthermore, the article does talk about how women have made strides
towards gender equality, but there is still sexism. Another aspect of SCWAMP discussed in the article
was property holding. The property, in this case, would be knowledge on how to be a girl. This
knowledge would be on things such as shaving your legs, makeup, and trendsetting clothes. Since
society believes that you are not a perfect women unless you follow the norms set out for

Cement, Neopolymer and Similar Compositions
2. Conventional cement
The function of cement is for isolating production zone and to provide support for the casing
[11].Portland cement is made up of calcium oxide (CaO), silicon dioxide (SiO) and water (H2O)
which the composition of calcium carbonate is around 75 80 wt% and 20 25 wt% of clay [7],[14]..
Compressive strength of Portland cement is developed through hydration. Hydration is chemical
reaction between water and cement compound. The rheology and early strength of cement is
developed from reaction of aluminate compound at the beginning of hydration. Rate of hydration can
be control by adding gypsum. It is for preventing the premature hardening of cement. Gypsum will
react with aluminate and hydroxyl ion to form ettrigate. Ettrigate will prevent hydration process by
forming needle shaped crystal on the aluminate and creating induction period [11].
Some addictive can be added to the cement to enhance the properties of cement. There are accelerator,
retarder, extender, weighting agent, dispersant, fluid loss control agent and loss circulation agent [11].
Accelerator Use to speed up the early stages of hydration. Applicable in shallow well.
Retarder Inhibit hydration and slow the setting time of cement. Applicable in deep well.
Extender Reduce slurry density, thus reduce the hydrostatic pressure during cementing operation.
Extender use to prevent break down and loss of circulation of weak formation.
Weighting agent Increase cement density by adding high

The Big Stick s Achievements
Matthew Del Rosso Honors US History (2) 08 March 2016 The Big Stick s Achievements During
presidency, the president is known to carry many duties under their belt. Some go wrong, while the
majority has turn into major historical accomplishments. Some of the accomplishments have affected
the country for many years and on. As many presidents have achieved their duties beyond expectation,
Teddy Roosevelt was one of the outstanding presidents who have done so. Teddy has a long list of his
accomplishments, but there are five that have sent him above all. Teddy Roosevelt was always
fascinated with nature. His first important achievement was the beginning of the National Park
System. He was very set upon keeping the Earth clean. Roosevelt saw how Americans were
inadvertently killing the Earth with pollution, so he got together with preservationists and solved the
problem. The first feeble step toward conservation had been taken with the Desert Land Act of 1877,
under which the federal government sold arid land cheaply on the condition that the purchaser irrigate
the thirsty soil within three years. This was important in the overall project because it got the ball
rolling and opened many Americans eyes to the growing issue of pollution. However, More successful
was the Forest Reserve Act of 1891, authorizing the president to set aside public forests as national
parks and other reserves. Under this statute some 46 million acres of magnificent trees were rescued

How Has American Football Played Around The World
Did you know, American Football is played around the world. If you ve been in the military, you know
that our American Football is played everywhere. There are leagues in Germany, Italy, Ireland,
England, Scotland, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Romania, even Russia. How?
The extent of the game, has moved around the world. Though of course we know about the NFL and
the Canadian Football League, but what about the other countries. How come we don t get to learn of
these leagues? Some of these leagues are Pro leagues. The Germans even have their own Super Bowl .
But we don t get to learn about the influence our game has had on other countries.
There are even women s football leagues. In Germany there are even women referees.

These guys would start kicking field goals at the 30 yard line and move back. I was amazed when they
moved back and kicked 65 yard field goals. The Punters, were kicking punts of over 40 yards. One
punter even had hang times of over 4.5 seconds. Heck, that s Ray Guy s (Oakland Raiders) record in
the NFL. That same kicker was sent into the states to try out with the Dallas Cowboys. He kicked one
punt, turned around to grab another football while it was still in the air, when the ball came down 50
yards from where he was. That punter didn t get the job, the job went to a punter who only kicked 30
yard punts. Talk about dumb moves!
Our American Football has spanned the globe, thanks to our servicemen. The game has grown beyond
our borders and expanded to the world. So why not let the Americans know of these teams? Are we so
conditioned that only Americans can play our game? Are we so cocky that nobody but us, can be good
at our game? Or is our so called experts, convinced only Americans can offer a good game? Maybe,
just maybe, one of these teams could beat our players, and put the experts to shame? Or can we as a
nation, compete against the world in our own

Copyright Infringement Laws And The Open Source Community
The autumn air is quite stale and the cold weather is just now starting to set in on this cold November
day. You re sitting out on the quad contemplating the thought of a new software idea and you wonder
what might you do to perfectly execute this idea. What type of challenges would be required to
properly execute the idea? Does this idea already exist and would you be crossing copyright
infringement laws? Is it easier to release the idea to the open source community than to go all the way
with protecting it so you can pursue it for all its worth? With other countries like China where using
copyrighted software ideas, owning knockoff name brand stores, and distributing fake software is
considered acceptable it leaves entrepreneurs with a sense of discouragement. Eric Allman said The
intellectual property situation is bad and getting worse. To be a programmer, it requires that you
understand as much law as you do technology. In this research paper I wish to cover the topics of
copyright infringement cases, existing intellectual property laws and groups, and purpose an idea to
protect intellectual property. The laws for protecting intellectual property are weak and we should
develop laws that everyone stateside and internationally can follow. If the world would adopt the same
set of laws for protecting intellectual property then the encouragement of pursuing ideas, creating
ideas, and inspiring young entrepreneurs would flourish.

The Impact Of Title Ix On Career Opportunities For...
Research Assignment
1. The search term I used to search for this article was Title IX in sport. I used the OneSearch
Database through UNF s online library. I selected this study because it focuses on the impact of Title
IX on the career opportunities in intercollegiate athletic administration.
Bower, G.G., Hums, M.A. (2013). The impact of Title IX on career opportunities in intercollegiate
athletic administration. Journal of Intercollegiate Sport (6), 213 230.
2. The literature review of this article focuses on Title IX itself, as well as statistical numbers that
provide the reader knowledge about the impact it has had. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that
has removed many barriers that once prevented people, on the basis of sex, from participating in
educational opportunities and careers of their choice (Bower Hums, 2013). Acosta and Carpenter
(2012) reported that the number of female athletes playing college sports has risen from 16,000 in
1968 to over 200,000 in 2012. Although the increased number of opportunities has provided women
the chance to participate in the sport, the percentage of women coaching women s teams has decline
over time from 90% in 1972 to 42.9% in 2012 (Acosta Carpenter, 2012). Alongside coaching is the
lack of women working in intercollegiate administration. In 1972, the percentage of female athletic
directors overseeing women s programs was 90%, Today, the percentage of female athletic directors is
20.3%, a small increase from 2010

  • 2. Galapagos Essay Kurt Vonnegut s Galapagos was written one million years ahead of the year 1986 AD. In this book, Vonnegut argues that the ultimate effect of humanity s sociological problems with technology is that man s intelligence will be the downfall and destruction of the human race. The essential point made by Vonnegut in this work is that the quot;great big brains quot; of humanity drives people to go further into technology and create new weapons that will lead to the demolition of man kind; Vonnegut disagreed against virtually every technological development (made by big brains ). It was the humans big brains that always gave them foolish or reckless ideas that almost always had negative results. Though it may tell the rest of your body to ... I agree with Kurt Vonnegut s argument that all mankind have these Big Brains because the focus of society today is to have the latest technology to gain more power . Our big brains are no longer in survival mode as it was with our ancestors. Today, our big brains follow what the media and government deems necessary, be it in commercials, movies, radio, and music that constantly surrounds us, leaving no room for our own decisions. Drug company promotional material is used by medical professionals to expand the knowledge of certain prescriptions to their patients to secure a plan of action to treat their illness. The active ingredient in Lexapro is Escitalopram oxalate. Escitalopram oxalate is an antidepressant in a drug group called SSRI, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. The chemical name of Lexapro is Escitalopram. The IUPAC name is (1S) 1 [3 (dimethylamino) propyl] 1 (4 fluorophenyl) 3H 2 benzofuran 5 carbonitrile, and the molecular formula is C20H21FN2O.2 Lexapro is used for treating major anxiety and depression in adolescents and adults. When diagnosed with depression, you lack the chemical serotonin. Serotonin is made in both the brain and intestines, linking Figure 1: Structural formula of Lexapro. https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Escitalopram_oxalate#section=Top with your control of your mood and other functions of your body. Lexapro works to boost the chemical activity of Serotonin in your brain to mentally battle depression. The balancing act is created when serotonin is released from one nerve cell and becomes available to the next. During this process, some of the serotonin released is reabsorbed by the first nerve cell. Lexapro will block the re absorption of serotonin into the first cell, which will eventually lead to an increased amount of serotonin to become available.7 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In throughout WW1, trenches were used quite liberally along the front lines. As a strategy to prevent advancement of the enemy s front lines trenches proved effective, however due to its widespread use by both sides it prevented nearly any progression in the war for periods of time. The stagnation it caused is a major reason why widespread use of the tactic was ineffectual. Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety Long Term Effects of Childhood Separation Anxiety Abstract This report delves into the connection between childhood separation anxiety disorder and the long term implications that it may have. To understand the connections I preformed secondary research through Academic Search Complete . I found that childhood separation anxiety disorder is connected with serious mental disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, social phobias, depression, and behavior disorders. Many studies have shown that childhood separation anxiety disorder is linked to eating disorders and depression. Cortisol has been shown to have the greatest effect on the health of a person. Cortisol is a hormone released in stressful situations. Cortisol levels in young children have been shown to increase when the child is left in the care of someone they are unfamiliar with and when they attempt to interact or play with large groups of other children. (Turvett 2008) Lack of control in a situation is associated with a lack of recovery of cortisol, which can lead to a range of negative health effects. (Ursin 2004) Discussion The main purpose of my research was to find the association between childhood separation anxiety disorder and mental disorders in adolescents and adults. Based on the results, high stress levels and childhood separation anxiety disorder can be used to predict mental and psychiatric disorders later in a child s life. When a child experiences the symptoms of separation anxiety disorder their body releases hormones and if these hormones are heightened or too frequent the child has a higher risk of eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and behavior disorders throughout the adolescence and adulthood stages of their life. • 8. The Stressful Stigma Of Infertility The Stressful Stigma of Infertility In the United States, it is estimated that infertility affects 7.4% to 15% of men and women of reproductive age (Lewis, Liu, Stuart, Ryan, 2013). Infertility is defined as failure to conceive after at least 1 year of attempting to achieve a pregnancy with unprotected intercourse. (Lewis et al., 2013). These issues have been increasing in industrialized countries over the past half century, and couples facing these concerns often undergo assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). These processes are designed to allow couples to have healthy babies who are usually born at full term. Approximately 30% result in the pregnancy of multiples, most often twins (Ottosen et al., 2009). However, there is definitive evidence showing that women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies often experience feelings of depression and anxiety. These feelings can stem from multiple sources, including the social construction of gender and motherhood, the power relationship between a woman and her partner, or other significant aspects of her social position such as socioeconomic status. Understanding these issues can change the current process of assisted reproductive technology and help give agency to women who might want to undergo fertility treatments. • 9. Linguistics Conversation Analysis On Women Essay Linguistics Conversation Analysis Anadelia Dominguez November 21st, 2016 Professor Burke Fresno State Since the beginning of time, women have been thought of as less when compared to men. In fact, women are constantly having to fight for equality whether that be equality in opportunities or equality in the workforce including wages or certain jobs. Language is no different, women use different language than men. In fact, according to Candance West and Don H. Zimmerman s article Women s Place in Everyday Talk, women and children speak in a similar fashion. In a nutshell, women and children share the same concept of powerless language while men sit on a higher pedestal when it comes to language. Research has shown that some of the biggest differences in speech between men and women are that women tend to ask more questions, use tag questions with more frequency, and overemphasize more often. These are only some of the characteristics of women s language (O Barr and Atkins, 1980, p. 453). Men on the other hand, tend to interrupt more often, they may also overlap speech, and are said to swear more in conversations (West and Zimmerman, 1983, p. 146). The characteristics of both genders mentioned above, were the characteristics that dominated the conversation which was analyzed. They were used with more frequency when compared to others listed in the textbook which is why the emphasis of this analysis will be on these unique characteristics. For ... • 11. Taking a Look at Exotic Options Introduction Ideally we would want to find closed form solutions for all exotic options. As the payoff structures of the exotic options become more complicated, so does the difficulty in finding closed form solutions. In most cases closed form solutions do not exist, eg. American barrier options and these must be valued by using numerical methods. The lattice methods, i.e. binomial and trinomial trees, assume that the underlying stochastic process is discrete, i.e. the underlying asset can change to a finite number of values (each associated with a certain probability) with a small advancement in time. Pricing barrier options using lattice techniques can be quite delicate. While the use of a large number of time steps may produce accurate solutions for standard options, the use of the same number of time steps in valuing barrier options will often produce erroneous option values. The source of the problem arises from the location of barrier with respect to adjacent layers of nodes in the lattice. If the barrier falls between layers of the lattice, the errors may be quite significant. Ritchken [1995] provides a highly efficient algorithm which produces a lattice where the nodes hit the barrier. Options A plain normal option is called a Vanilla Option. An option is a financial contract which gives its owner a right, but not an obligation to sell or purchase an asset at a later stage during the lifetime of the asset. Both Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen manage to captivate their audience s attention, and also a certain degree of sympathy for the protagonists misfortune. This use of tripling is very effective, as it may symbolise a heartbeat, slowly beating away, to its fate. The dashes further enhance this, as they make the reader pause in the gaps between the words, making the heartbeats seem further and further apart, and eventually dying away. Another quote which gives the reader a sense of loss is the final stanza of the poem: And they, since they were not the ones dead, turned to their affairs , in line 33 34. This quote, to put into simpler words, means that the people who were working with this young boy (who happen to be his family), had better things to do than to care for the death of this young boy, and simply turned away, and got back to work. This action seems alarmingly heartless, but nevertheless, Frost very successfully makes the jreaders feel a huge sense of loss. This line once again shows how meaningless and vulnerable life is. In a frantic search to find a suitable outfit for the day, you shuffle through the myriad amounts of color options in front of you. Mystical teals, burnt oranges and chocolaty browns fill your gaze. You just cannot seem to find anything that you would feel comfortable wearing for the day. In terms of style, color is the cornerstone. Many, however, lack the ability to color coordinate. The color of what we wear can exude an impact much greater than we could even define. The topic of the unspoken language of color will allow those who are less fashionable to gain an understanding of the silent essence their clothing gives off. The unspoken social language of color is one that relays who we are. It can emit our emotions, our personality and allow us to relive eras of our humanity. The standard American business suit is an example. Following a basic formula, it involves a grey suit, white shirt, deep toned tie, and white pocket square with either black shoes. The dark tones are closely tied with authority and leadership. There are a handful of ways to play around with this, but if you wish to convey the message that you re there for business, you ll stick to the basic formula. In the movie jaws the shark is large and in the events of the movie takes a large chunk out of a boat by biting it. If jaws were an average and realistic sized shark, then biting the hole in the ship would not have been possible. The shark s ability to damage and sink a large man made item makes it seem more monstrous and scary. Sharks are very powerful apex predators, like many animals they are made up of mainly muscle. When sharks attack people or other animals they do a lot of damage, when combined the shark s strength and sharp teeth are dangerous. With the unlikely event of a shark attack how they seem and are portrayed in media gives them a bad image. Victims of shark attacks, when pulled out of the water or taken to a hospital have large bloody injuries from the shark. The idea and evidence that supports how dangerous sharks can be contributes and add to the fear of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Philos, Eros, Agape Love in Religion Essay Philia, eros, and agape are three different Greek terms for the word. These three terms explain the different types of love a human being can acquire. Philia is a love of friendship, which is grounded in commonality. However, eros is a kind of love that seeks something from the other person or thing. Lastly, agape is the love that wills the good of the other and is completely self giving. The meanings of these Greek terminologies, philia, eros, and agape, allow us to better understand and discuss our relationship with God and human fulfillment. In order to find human fulfillment, one must find God of Jesus Christ as well. Erotic loving is our desire for this fulfillment, which can be seen through eros. Human nature can be simply defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sartre attested that the human being is a useless passion due to our insatiable desires. Markedly, human beings desire to retain the infinite and that need is simply impossible. For the search for the unlimited is tiresome and unappeasable. Conversely, there is an alternate way of looking at eros. In order to have hope, God has to appear to human life as not a receding horizon but an absolute savior. Human beings long for the truth and due to the constraints of science and history, Jesus is seen in an alternate way because he is no longer limited by space or time. In this case, Karl Rahner and Saint Augustine both agree that God always initiates the relationship with human life. Namely, they asserted that we are constantly drawn to God and God is not drawn to us. Because of this, we have the option of forming a better relationship with God. Rahner said that God dispenses his grace to all human beings of every religion in and God is continually accepting. Chiefly, it is not God s choice to accept or deny us, for that is not his matter . Anthony De Mello describes another explanation of human fulfillment to us. He explains to us that in order to have human fulfillment, we must detach ourselves from our worldly attachments. As human beings, we allow ourselves to believe that we cannot be happy without a certain thing or person in our life. Thus, that is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Reasons Of Non Compliance IV. The reasons of non compliance Due to the fact, the board dismissed Steven Sewell from CEO because his characteristics are not suitable with the characteristics of new board. This reason is very subjective and unreasonable. This paper would not examine the unreasonable reason from the board of FDC as above, but will observe the fact that the removal of a director by the board is not the first time happened. There are some previous cases which are similar to the FDC case in which directors were dismissed by the board, such as in the case of Allied Mining Processing Ltd v Boldbow Pty Ltd ( Allied v Boldbow ), Central Exchange Ltd v Rivkin Financial Services Ltd ( Central v Rivkin ), and Scottish Colonial Ltd v Australian Power Gas Co Ltd ( Scottish v Australian Power ). In those three cases, the decision by the judges is considerably different. In Allied v Boldbow and Central v Rivkin, the judges state that Section 203D does not replace any other power of removal possessed by the company. Therefore, a company could regulate in their constitution to dismiss a director without the need for a vote of shareholders (in defined circumstances). Conversely, in Scottish v Australian Power, the judges emphasise that Section 203D is mandatory, and therefore, the process of removal a director must follow Section 203D. Due to those cases, it is clear that there are pro and contra about the dismissal of a director as stipulated in the Section 203D. One side argues that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Similarities Between Funeral And Pericles Funeral We often like to think that over the course of two millennia we change a lot. In many ways we do, our technology advances, we become more knowledgeable, and we as people evolve. However, we do not evolve in every way that we perhaps should. An example we can look at to see the ways some things have not changed much through examining two similar documents. Written in drastically different time periods, you would not think Lincoln s Gettysburg Address and Pericles s Epitaph would really have much in common. The two funeral orations do share their fair share of similarities in addition to their differences, though. To understand how the two documents compare we must first look at the context of both the Epitaph and the Gettysburg Address. Pericles s Epitaph was written roughly 2,000 years ago during the beginning of the Peloponnesian Wars. It comes to us through Thucydides in his history The Peloponnesian War. Pericles spoke after the first year of battle in the winter, and his speech was delivered at a public funeral for all those that were slain during the war. This is why his speech is often called the Funeral Oration of Pericles. He had been a general at the time and a natural choice to deliver a speech on those who died in battle. In addition to his status though, Pericles had a reputation for speaking only when it was truly important. Thus, the people would know how important this speech was and more importantly they would get the message Pericles was trying to get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Odysseus from the epic poem The Odyssey, acts above and beyond his crew and the typical mortal. Odysseus uses his intelligence throughout his journeys to further develop his courage allowing him to be resilient in the time of crisis arguing he is a hero. Odysseus uses intelligence to guide him on his tricky journey home to Ithaca establishing that he is a hero. When Odysseus and his crew land on the land of the Cyclops, they get trapped in a cave with a human eating Cyclops named Polyphemus. Polyphemus turns hostile and becomes a serious threat to Odysseus and his crews chance of returning home. Odysseus uses his intelligence to get out of the disastrous situation by getting the Cyclops drunk and then blinding Polyphemus by using a stake with its fiery tip (Homer 9.443) and thrusting it into the single eye on the Cyclops. Odysseus keen sense of intelligence allows him to predict that Polyphemus would try to get help from his Cyclops neighbors so he plans ahead telling Polyphemus, Nobody that s my name. Nobody so my mother and father call me, all my friends (Homer 9.410 411). Odysseus, although physically strong, understands that outthinking an opponent often leads to victory and in the incident with the cyclops this theory held true. This results in a floating section of the ribs. Because this section is unattached to the rest of the bony rib cage, this segment results in paradoxical chest movement. The founding of America s first two long lasting colonies kindled a sequence that helped to construct not only the nation, but the world. The topic of whether Jamestown would be a better fit for a settler than Plymouth or vice versa has sparked much controversy. Both share similarities and differences in their early colonial settlements. Which settlement is superior? Although that question is up for debate, there is one thing that is certain, it depends on who is settling into the colony. For this reason, a man from Holland in search of a career in fishing and trading and an escape from religious persecution would prefer Plymouth over Jamestown. To begin with, in 1607, 104 men arrived in what was later called Jamestown, Virginia. Fatal problems soon emerged quickly after the settlement, mainly from the first settlers own mistakes. This article went into discussing how everyone has internalized sexism, believing in sexism in their head, whether they like to believe it or not. This is because society teaches people norms that women must follow in order for them to be respected. As we have discussed in class, this is the idea of subjectivity because all of these social codes are predetermined and that makes them very difficult to change. One example of this was in the article when it talked about how women often chose their careers around them someday becoming mothers. Women are expected to have children and then take time off from work to raise their children. No one believes that men should be expected to stay at home and raise children because it is not the societal norm. Therefore when a woman chooses a career around impending motherhood, she is falling into subjectivity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the article does talk about how women have made strides towards gender equality, but there is still sexism. Another aspect of SCWAMP discussed in the article was property holding. Conventional cement The function of cement is for isolating production zone and to provide support for the casing [11].Portland cement is made up of calcium oxide (CaO), silicon dioxide (SiO) and water (H2O) which the composition of calcium carbonate is around 75 80 wt% and 20 25 wt% of clay [7],[14].. Compressive strength of Portland cement is developed through hydration. Hydration is chemical reaction between water and cement compound. The rheology and early strength of cement is developed from reaction of aluminate compound at the beginning of hydration. Rate of hydration can be control by adding gypsum. It is for preventing the premature hardening of cement. Gypsum will react with aluminate and hydroxyl ion to form ettrigate. Ettrigate will prevent hydration process by forming needle shaped crystal on the aluminate and creating induction period [11]. Some addictive can be added to the cement to enhance the properties of cement. There are accelerator, retarder, extender, weighting agent, dispersant, fluid loss control agent and loss circulation agent [11]. Accelerator Use to speed up the early stages of hydration. Applicable in shallow well. Retarder Inhibit hydration and slow the setting time of cement. Applicable in deep well. As many presidents have achieved their duties beyond expectation, Teddy Roosevelt was one of the outstanding presidents who have done so. Teddy has a long list of his accomplishments, but there are five that have sent him above all. Teddy Roosevelt was always fascinated with nature. His first important achievement was the beginning of the National Park System. He was very set upon keeping the Earth clean. Roosevelt saw how Americans were inadvertently killing the Earth with pollution, so he got together with preservationists and solved the problem. The first feeble step toward conservation had been taken with the Desert Land Act of 1877, under which the federal government sold arid land cheaply on the condition that the purchaser irrigate the thirsty soil within three years. This was important in the overall project because it got the ball rolling and opened many Americans eyes to the growing issue of pollution. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that has removed many barriers that once prevented people, on the basis of sex, from participating in educational opportunities and careers of their choice (Bower Hums, 2013).
