Culture Is Defined As The Internet And Mass Media
Culture is defined as the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time
(Merriam Webster, 2015). Different continents, from Far East Asia to the West Most point of the
Antarctica, holds their own unique traditions and cultures. Modern form of communication, such as
the internet and mass media, had exposed us to various different cultures, thousands miles away from
us, enabling us to see with our own eyes their practices and traditions. Despite that, does the images
and recordings we see with our eyes through the media are enough to convey all the values in the
culture itself? Our view on the matter may be different that from how others, especially the locals,
sees the matter itself due to the fact that the visual we see does not hold enough of the emotions and
values in the culture itself. In order to send deeper messages that cannot be merely perceived only
with visuals, poetry plays a considerable amount of role in the representation of a culture. Why does
poetry have the ability to fully portray a culture? Poetry have the ability to display a culture due to the
fact that a poet who writes poems about a certain culture usually had either encountered the culture
themselves or practice the culture and the customs in their daily life. This statement is similar to what
Ava McCall said in her articles Using Poetry in Social Studies Classes to Teach about Cultural
Diversity and Social Justice , that poets often write poems according to

The Beach Carrier Case
Jay Eskew ECE 301 Summer 07/18/2015 Case 7: The Beach Carrier Questions for Discussion 1. What
is the nature of the product? What are its strengths and weaknesses? The Beach Carrier is a new type
of beach bag that is designed to assist the user in carrying everything they needed to go to the beach. It
s easy storage is its main advantage, as it can fold up for easy storage. The Beach Carrier has many
strengths and weaknesses; however, it seems to offer more strengths. Strengths The bags ability to fold
down and become more compact is its major selling point Having the size and capacity to carry
everything one needs for a day at the beach is also a huge plus and is the main need the product is

How can Ricci protect her product design? 4. What are the pros and cons of the mail ordering market
strategy? What are the pros and cons of alternative distribution methods? The biggest benefit that the
mail order marketing strategy will yield to Ricci is that she gets to choose when and where the Beach
Carrier is offered for sale. With this feature she can choose who distributes her product as well. The
next big pro for the mail order strategy is that she will receive immediate feedback on the
effectiveness of the system. If after the first wave goes out there is a lag in sales, she may need to
think of a new method to market/sell her product. A major disadvantage to the mail order system is
that oftentimes a small picture in a catalog is not an effective representation of the product itself and
could turn people off to potentially purchasing the Beach Carrier. Another con to this system is that
Ricci may not be reaching enough of the target consumers through her system. Her target
demographic, women, would not necessarily be reached by a Boating magazine. Also, advertising
through a magazine is a very ineffective way to reach a large market because it is very unlikely that
many potential customers are subscribed to that

Minors Use Social Media
Social media is expanding due to its popularity; however it may be used for many different reasons.
Many minors use it as a form of entertainment and interaction between friends and even other people
around the world. Although minors use social media as a form of entertainment and interaction,
nevertheless minors should not be able to use social media because it causes health issues, exposes
them to explicit content, and promotes violence. Social media causing health issues in minors is
shown and proven in In Defense of the Internet: The Relationship between Internet communication

In Does Social Media Perpetuate Youth Violence? and The Impact of Media Violence on Children and
Adolescents: Opportunities for Clinical Interventions the violence on social media is discussed and
indicates it promotes violence behavior in minors. In Does Social Media Perpetuate Youth Violence? it
directly states that Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have become a platform for youth violence...
gangs used these social media sites to make threats, call out rival gangs, promote violence and recruit
members. This activity led to real Stomp Outs , real shootings, and real deaths and... a new trend
called Fight Compilations has become increasingly popular on sites such as World Star Hip Hop and
YouTube (Bostic). This shows that social media is too violent for minors to use. Likewise, in The
Impact of Media Violence on Children and Adolescents: Opportunities for Clinical Interventions it is
specified that children s exposure to media violence plays an important role in the etiology of violent
behavior (Beresin). This shows that social media causes violence. In both articles, evidence there is
strong correlation between social media use and violence in minors is presented. Consequently, minors
should not be able to use social since it promotes

Essay about Reasons to help reduce homelessness in Canada
Reasons to help reduce homelessness in Canada
200,000; That is the amount of Canadians who become homeless every year. The truth might be
shocking, but homelessness is an ongoing crisis. The inhumane environment outside makes people
angry and aggressive towards other people. As unfortunate as this occurring problem is, according to
the human rights act, it is a citizens job to be respected, trusted Canadian citizens and help solve the
problem rather than witnessing it from afar. As humanity continues to gain knowledge of the situation

Enock Maregesi once said Addiction isn t about using drugs. It s about what the drug does to your life

The Good Roads Bill By President Woodrow Wilson
The Good Roads Bill was signed in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson, but this law took decades of
work by cycling activists to go from an idea to the oval office. The first mention of the poor road
quality in America came on December 30, 1894 After this mention, the Good Roads Movement starts
to spread. On May 26, 1895, the movement begins to spread to New York via political and democratic
power. In mid 1985, in a time where good roads was growing momentum noted by the Gossip of the
Cyclers column, apropos of good roads, the association of that name has since justly acquired a
greater importance than it previously enjoyed. The Good Roads movement was spreading throughout
the nation. People in Manhattan were beginning to covet Brooklyn s ... Show more content on

During this time, a New Jersey and Pennsylvania boarder town became a Good Roads Success story.
After putting $40,000 of roads in the city, a New Jersey town saw an increase in change and real estate
prices. There was significantly more crops being moved in and out of the city due to the improved
road quality. This success story became an example that the Good Roads Movement brought up
continually when fighting for legislation, and it happened as early as 1896 (6). The Good Roads
movement eventually had to get politically involved to lobby for money for roads. The cyclists started
to partner with the farmers to influence regulation around the state of New York. An employee of the
Agricultural Department of the Government said, the bicycle did more toward the cause of good roads
than all the agitators since the time of Adam. This employee was saying that cyclists were the biggest
activists for good roads since MacAdams engineered the MacAdams roads. The employee continues
to say the the government is looking to continue improving roads. Based on the two quotes here, it is
clear that cyclists in the Good Roads Movement helped persuade the government to create better roads
(8). By October, new roads, bridges, and education policies were being put into place. Cyclists worked
consistently to put in a bridge across an obstructive river in

Fit Dna Lab
The FIT DNA (cologuard) is the last stool test that is available for colorectal testing. The FIT DNA
test combines the FIT with a test that detects altered DNA in the stool (CDC, 2017). The FIT test
requires the entire stool sample to be sent to the lab for testing. No cards or poking the stool are
required, only the stool sample itself. The cologuard test can be done in the privacy of your home and
does not require a bowel prep, diet changes or time off from work (Exact Sciences, 2017) The FIT
DNA test is recommended to be completed every three years. Positive results are recommended to be

Medicare covers this test beginning at age 50 or older (no co insurance, co pay or Part B deductible)
when it is done for screening only. In some cases this screening method begins as a screening tool and
turns into a diagnostic measure. If the health care provider performing the test identifies any polyps or
cancerous lesions that require removal and biopsy, the individual will be charged co insurance or co
pay for the diagnostic testing (ACS, 2017 ). If a precancerous polyp or colorectal cancer is found, a
colonoscopy would be required to visualize the entire colon to detect other polyps or cancer (ACS,
2017). The USPSTF (2016) found the benefit of this testing is less beneficial when it is done alone
compared to when it is combined with an annual FIT. The availability of flexible sigmoidoscopies has
declined in the United States (USPSTF, 2016).
Colonoscopy
The colonoscopy is similar to the flexible sigmoidoscopy, however, this scope is inserted into the anus
and through the entire colon. It is recommended to get a colonoscopy every 10 years who are at
average risk and every two years for those at high, such as individuals with IBD or HNPCC (ACS,

Border Security Through Technology and Manpower Essay
It was reported in the San Antonio Express News that Border Patrolling Drones Would Call Texas
Base Home. Lynn Brezosky reported that U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan
Bersin cut the ribbon for the launch of the nation s fourth base for operating border surveillance
drones. This is important in securing the U.S. Mexico border, which the U.S. has an approximate
1,933 mile long border with Mexico (Beaver). Brezosky also reported that the Homeland Security

In addition, the Secure Fence Act mandated that 854 miles of fencing be built. According to Duncan
Hunter, however, the State Representative of the 52nd district of California, The Department of
Homeland Security has indicated its intention to build 370 miles of border fencing even though the
Secure Fence Act calls for more than double that length. And on May 10, 2011 in El Paso, Texas,
President Obama stated the border fence is now basically complete. (Krauthammer) The fence failure
brings me to my next point about its faults. The fence is nowhere near complete, yet the President
himself is claiming that it is complete. On the contrary, Nicole Miller reported in the Texas
International Law Journal that The latest reports from June 2009 reported that 633 miles of the
original 700 were completed (Miller 8). The 700 miles of fencing may have been built, but that still
leaves over 1,200 miles of unsecured border. The fence has been placed only at certain points where
they slow immediate entry into cities and roads. Just beyond the cities and roads the fence ends
unexpectedly; so the illegal traffic simply avoids the more guarded fence and goes around. (Holt 3 4)
Native American culture is being affected by the fence as well. Many Native American tribes like the
Tohono O Odham, who live along the border, are cut off from the rest of their people (History
Culture).

History Of The Confederate Flag
Chase Jones
History of the confederate flag
In the past couple of year, there has been a controversial battle over the flying of the Confederate Flag
on government buildings. The controversy has really started to stir up in the southern states such as
South Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia. On January 30, 2001, the state of Georgia changed its flag,
removing the large Confederate battle cross from the 1956 design and replacing it with the state seal
of Georgia. Now, the state of Mississippi is the only state that fearlessly displays the Southern Cross in
its state flag. Though several Southerners see the Confederate Flag as a symbol of southern pride and
heritage, many others see the flag as a dishonorable reminder of slavery and segregation in the south.
Although this flag is under great controversy in the southern states, there is no reason why this flag
should not be flown from government buildings because it isn t demoralizing African Americans in the
symbolization of slavery, segregation and domination although it is used by many hate groups across
the united states they too need a history lesson because the confederate flag only started as a battle
flag that some blacks fought under and held with pride.
The Confederate Flag is a demoralizing symbol to many African Americans in the United States. To a
number of African Americans because they think this flag is a symbol of slavery and the domination
whites had over slaves during the time of the civil war. This flag is

Cordless Electric Nailers
For those of you, who find the cord to be a major inconvenience, go for a cordless electric nailer. With
the help of gas, this nailer can shoot down the nails but bear in mind that a battery is required to set off
the gas. There is one major disadvantage ,though you might need to frequently charge the battery. This
issue can be solved with a backup battery and a charger. Another thing to be noted here is that if you
are on a budget, then don t opt for this one as it is slightly expensive.

staples and brads. If you are not a professional, then use this but know that they are not strong enough
for bigger nails. So don t even try

President Franklin Roosevelt And The Great Depression
On October 29, 1929, the American stock market crashed after years of escalating in an event
Americans would forever call Black Tuesday
Became America s most severe economic crash yet
Companies quickly went bankrupt, people became unemployed, and the national money supply was
depleted.
By 1932, nearly one fourth of America had become unemployed
National production was cut in half
Soup kitchens, bread lines, and homeless became a regular sight
Farmers were forced to leave their crops to rot, leaving more people to go hungry
Thousands of banks across America closed down
President Herbert Hoover acted on an aloof approach based on his belief that the government should
not directly interfere in economic affairs. He told the public that the Great Depression was just a
passing incident
Because of Hoover s approach and the millions who were unemployed, the democratic candidate
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected with a large majority in November 1932
Despite the widespread panic and waves of bank failures, FDR maintained a calm and controlled
demeanor, motivating many in his inaugural address with his famous quote: The only thing we have to
fear is fear itself
Roosevelt then attempted to end the Great Depression with a series of decisive actions named The
New Deal
Together with his group of scholars Roosevelt called a brain trust, he created a plethora of acts to

Objective Meaning
Many people walk around not worry about whether or not life has any objective meaning, at least
most of the time, and when they do think on the topic of the meaning of life, they seem assured that
there is some objective meaning. For many, this objective meaning lies in their religion. The notion
that God creates the meaning in life does make some sense. For if God created humans, it is
reasonable that he created them with intention and purpose. Now this might not be the purpose people
want to have, but it is purpose for them none the less. It is from this God given purpose that people
can derive their meaning. For those without religion, well, there is always subjective meaning. There
is family. There is the future of the human race. In short, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

can find joy in the company of others. People can even find joy in helping each other. Why not donate

their meaning out of. Most of the time, the things people try to get meaning from are very admirable,
but this doesn t change the fact, that life without God, is meaningless. It may feel better to say that one

KeyMath 3 DA is a comprehensive, norm referenced measure of essential mathematical concepts and

Analysis Of Disney Films Mulan And Aladdin
Starting its production of films in the early 20th century, Disney has become a very popular company
targeting an audience of children and adults. By the 21st century, its films has gone through many
changes according to trends during those periods of time, especially with relationships between males
and females. Men has always been prominent compared to the women in the movies. Women were
displayed to be very dependent on male characters to come rescue them, no signs of independency are
apparent until recent contemporary films. In the movies Mulan and Aladdin, the women were more
free spirited and less dependent on men. In this case, Disney films begins to break that barrier of
gender roles within a relationship as a couple, changing the view of gender expectations similar to this
day. Around the early 20th century, women never gained freedom or rights like how it is today.

The Importance Of Role Models For Young Children
Role models are particularly important for young children, and are a key factor in theirbehaviour and
the development of their identity (Aacap, 2017). Children may have several role models who they
admire and aspire to become, it is the actions of these role models that have an impact upon how
children think and behave. Although not all role models are good, those that are can have a positive

Sacred Heart Church
Sacred Heart Church is the second oldest church located 1307 14th Street SW in Downtown Westside
in Calgary, Canada. It is founded in 1910. There are two main complexes in this architecture, the older
complex that is constructed in 1910 and an additional edition in 1930. Throughout the years, the
Sacred Heart Church has constantly been adding additional architectural structures and expanding its
size. Both complexes in the Sacred Heart Church are rectangular in plan. They both are red brick
structure with dull green tiled roof. The roof does not cantilever over the structure hence the shadeless
entrance, sides, corridors and gardens. The newer structure is larger in size, with the longer axis
perpendicular to 14th street, whereas the second complex s longer axis is parallel to it. Even though
the two complexes are placed adjacent and perpendicularly to one another, it does not create a typical
Catholic transept plan as it is not a symmetrical cross. The short rectangular structure is offset towards
the main entrance of the church as supposed to the back end. There is approximately 8 stories tall
tower located in the longer structure, towards to the back end of the plan. It has a square base with the
top section extruding upwards to a singular point, forming a pinnacle. The main entrance is accessible
from the 14th street and is at the front façade of the larger complex. Upon entry, visitors will be lead to
the longest path within the church, the nave. Visitor can also

The Creation Of Western Civilization
From its beginnings at the foundation of ancient Greece, our present humanity has evolved itself to be
focused on the value of each individual. The contradiction in terms of Western civilization, however,
was also was made obvious right from the start. The Greek s attention on individuals arose from a
slavery based society. The focus on individual rights created both a democratic system and an increase
in learning, as well as scientific revolutions that would remain unique until the Renaissance. Adding
onto the Greek groundwork, the Romans furthered another significant keystone of Western
civilization; the establishment of laws. Through the collapse of Rome and increasing Germanic
barbarian invasions, the foundations of Western civilization had fundamentally vanished. They were
not put back into effect until the Italian Renaissance inspired massive attention to the traditional texts.
As a result, a change in European thinking switched from The Almighty back to the individual.
Starting chiefly as a theocratic and nationalist movement, the Reformation in Germany provided an
assortment of nationwide securities. It prohibited the Roman Church from restricting academic
discussion in northern Europe. New translations of the Bible also resulted in the expansion of vulgar
languages which encouraged literacy and education. The Enlightenment brought us even closer to
achieving westernized democracy, inquiring deeper into both religion and tyranny. Many French
philosophers held an

Sex Trade And Its Effects On Society
Women in the Sex trade are living and working in dangerous situations working with different men
and women and even the same customers every night, this is their lives from a very young age and
will continue this hardship for the rest of their lives, even if by chance they could get out and try to
live a normal, healthy citizen life. The sex trade is a business where women do sexual favours for men
and sometimes women for money. In many parts of the world and with women from different parts of

What Are The Legal Issues Related To The Ford Motor Company
Memorandum TO: Jonathan Foster, Head of the Legal Analytics Department FROM: Sawyer Folks,
Business Analyst DATE: April 27, 2015 SUBJECT: Ford Motor Company Background The Ford
Motor Company has had a rather tarnished legal history. Ford got into some hot water in the 1990s
and 2000s over multiple safety scandals. One of these scandals occurred in 1996 and involved faulty
ignition switches that would short and cause fires. The ignition switch scandal then led to Ford being
sued by State Farm for neglecting to release information about the faulty ignition switches and their
tendency to start fires. Perhaps the most famous Ford safety scandal of all took place during the 1970s
when Ford released the Pinto. As a consequence of a poor design, the fuel tank was located near the
cars bumper and had virtually zero protection mechanisms in place. This design flaw led to many fatal
explosions from the car being struck from behind. Ford ended up having to pay millions of dollars in
civil cases as a result of injuries and deaths related to the design of the Pinto. Ford had to fork over
$125 million dollars in damages in just one civil case, although this was a special case. There were
other cases in which Ford executives were found innocent of any murder charges at all. There was a
very diverse and wide spectrum of cases related to the Pinto incident. Ford does not only suffer from
legal issues related to a lack of safety, but also to legal issues involving environmental

The Rashomon Effect
The various interpretations of the same event by different people in which contradict each other, is
known as the Rashomon effect. The phrase comes from the film Rashomon, and it is about a murder
and rape case. It also involves the different stories of each witness. Many times, when something
happens, people tend to share about the specific event based on what they hear or see. In this case,
point of view plays a great role. As far as the Rashomon film itself, there are many cases in society
ranging from minor ones to major ones which use the Rashomon effect. For example, the Orenthal
James Simpson (OJ) case. The case itself deals with a former football player, O.J. Simpson who is
charged with the murder of his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. What I
find both interesting and revealing, is the fact that each witness that testifies, describes O.J. s mode in
a different way based on their perception of him. On July 10, 1995, the murder trial of O.J. Simpson
began with the testimony of his oldest daughter, 26, Arnelle Simpson. Arnelle stated that her father
was emotional, distraught, and out of control when he had heard of Nicole Simpson s death. On June

Reflective Essay About Math
There is a short list of things that keep me up at night. Beyond being anxious or too excited for
something that s happening tomorrow, math is the most common offender. Ironic because math is
infamous for making students sleep. When I get my head wrapped around a problem, I cannot seem to
sleep until I have come to some satisfactory conclusion or found a way to get my mind off of it.
Although, holding my sleep hostage really is a great way to make me solve the problem! I don t just
think about it when I sleep, it also invades my thoughts when I m trying to focus on an audiobook in
the car or as I am walking and taking in the scenery of early morning Harrisburg on my way to school.
I love thinking about math and the reward of finding a problem s solution is ever so satisfying. I know
that whatever I focus on in my future has to involve these kinds of problems, the problems that keep
me up at night and entertain my thoughts throughout the day.
I also, however, love to learn about the sciences. I am ever curious about the make up of molecular
compounds, the interaction of particles at the subatomic level, unification theory, the origin of mass,
spooky action at a distance (one of my favorites. Thanks, Einstein,) physics influence on my view of
functions, entanglement, and the mathematics of electrical systems. This list is just the start; I have yet

Great Depression Modernism
The longest, deepest, and most pervasive depression lasted from 1929 to 1939, which was the Great
Depression (Encyclopedia.com). This time period led many people into great turmoil. Families were
suffering to get by and did almost anything they could to survive. Money was very limited for the
majority of people because of the stock market crash of 1929 and the bank panics of the early 1930s
causing the worst economic downturn in history (Encyclopedia.com). The Great Depression had a
huge impact on modern day literature. It represented the time of despair and sorrow while
emphasizing the horrible conditions one had to go through hoping for a better life. Many authors tried
to teach a historical event while also instilling life lessons about hope and overcoming obstacles. A big
input from authors was new styles of themes with incorporation of realism and modernism (Linde)
where they bring personal experiences to their audiences. The hopelessness during this period meant
that people needed inspiration for new ways to deal with life and literature filled that opening whether
people started writing or reading. One of the most critical points in history for the United States was
the Great Depression because it made everyone desperate while leading to a huge market for
American Literature. After a decade in which the literary experiments of the Modernists Ernest
Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, T.S. Eliot dominated the scene, a new wave of writers began to look

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a play by Tom Stoppard written in 1966. It is also a movie
produced in 1990 also written by Tom Stoppard. The play and the movie follow these two minor
characters adventures on and off the set of Shakespeare s Hamlet. Stoppard takes this unique
perspective to bring up some interesting topics that were only a small part of Hamlet. The major
theme is the idea of fate vs free will. Do these characters exhibit free will? Or are they simply taken

There are certain events that are going to happen no matter what. They are going to tell Hamlet that
they were sent to spy on him. Hamlet is going to find the letter and switch it with one that he writes.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are going to die. These are events that are set in stone just like the
events in a Newtonian universe are set in stone. From their perspective they are free beings making
their own choices (or not making choices as it were). From the perspective of the audience they are
fated to follow the plot of Hamlet. This still gives them an infinite array of possibilities outside of their
scenes of the play, but as soon as someone in the play Hamlet begins their fated discussion they only
have one possibility. To put it metaphorically, the play Hamlet is the Newtonian universe. The events
in it are predetermined. On the other hand, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern represent an electron in the
quantum sense. This allows for them to have the infinite array of possibilities when by themselves like
the free beings that they are existing as a wave and a particle at the same time, but when viewed under

Love and Prowess in The Knight with the Lion Essay
Love and Prowess in The Knight with the Lion
The chivalric ideal demanded many things of a knight. To the military ideals of prowess, loyalty, and
honor it added the aristocratic ideal of largesse and, with the rise of the troubadour lyrics and
romances, the ideal of courtly love. At times a knight could find these demands in conflict with one
another. Such is the case with Chrétien de Troyes s romance The Knight with the Lion. In this story,
the hero Yvain finds love while pursuing prowess; but, continuing to pursue prowess, he loses that
love. In the adventures that follow, he seeks to regain his love. In so doing, he develops true prowess
without aiming for it and learns to reconcile chivalry s demands of love and prowess, ... Show more

Yvain s prowess is already great in this early part of the story, as we can see from his first two feats of
arms. In the first, he defeats Esclados the Red, the defender of the fountain, by whom Calogrenant had
been so disgraced. How good a knight Esclados defeated in Calogrenant, the story does not indicate,
only that he is a most agreeable knight (258). We may perhaps assume that, being a knight of Arthur s
Round Table, Calogrenant would have been a good fighter and his defeat more the exception than the
rule. Regardless of his abilities, however, Calogrenant s failure at the spring serves one important
purpose: it provides a backdrop against which Yvain s success there is seen to be all the more
impressive. To this backdrop is added Calogrenant s description of the spring s defender:
I thought there were at least ten. Yet there was only a single knight whose approach caused so much
noise and commotion....As though bent on evil, he was riding up faster than an eagle and looking as
ferocious as a lion....The knight had a good horse and a stout lance, and without doubt, he was a whole
head taller than I....His lance was not light but, in my opinion, weighed more than any knight s lance. I
have never seen one so large. (263)

best interest to display the characteristics of an extroverted person. Eysenck described someone that is

Torture Argumentative Essay
Over centuries throughout the world, torture has been a debated and very controversial topic. For the
past week, I have read articles written by four separate authors who share their opinion on the topic.
The articles take you through the opinions of the authors and many compelling arguments. Is torture
inhumane? Is torture barbaric? Does the use of torture discredit our moral standings? Could you be
given bad intelligence even with the use of torture? After reading the information provided in these
four articles, I have not only become aware of the issues, but I have also formed my own opinion.
According to Michael Levins, The Case for Torture , over time there have been occasions in which
torture is seen as simply essential and tolerable. One claim Levin uses in his article is an atomic bomb
attack made by terrorists. If the suspect is caught and in police custody, the question is are the officers
suppose to just stick to protocol or should they be doing anything possible to get the information they
need to save all those people? , even if that means to put the man in unbearable circumstances. Levine
argues that millions of innocent lives are worth more than this one mass murder, but we are going to

Gospel Is The Good News
The word gospel is derived from Old English meaning good news or glad tidings . The Greek word
euangelion which means good message is the the source for the word evangelist. 1.
Mark s Gospel, now considered the first of the synoptic gospels makes no delay in the identification of
who this man, Jesus, is. He is the Messiah, the anointed one, from the Greek word Christos. From the
very first verse of this Gospel, the evangelist knows and proclaims who Jesus is: the Messiah, the Son
of God. 2. Now this evangelist will, through his Gospel, begin a discourse which will allow all the
characters from the disciples to the centurion to realize that Surely, this was the Son of God. Mark 15:

Jesus authority to forgive sins is central to the good news. However, for Mark it is more than
forgiveness. John baptized with water, but the good news of Jesus coming is that he will baptize with
the Holy Spirit which is proclaimed by John the Baptist in verse 8. 7. When Jesus heals the paralyzed
man and then tells him that his sins are forgiven the teachers of the law are incredulous. This is part of
the good news. Jesus has the power to forgive sins however upsetting it is to the religious
establishment.
Mark 1:15 goes up to say to believe in the good news. Belief, faith, is the core of the good news. Mark
9:23 sums it best: Everything is possible for one who believes . Mark 11: 24; Therefore I tell you
whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours . Jesus also shows
the healing power of faith in Mark 2:5,34 and 10:52 as he heals the paralytic man and the woman who
touched his clothes wishing to be healed. He teaches us a valuable lesson in that it was their faith that
healed them which should be an example for us today.
Another motif which is sewn in the fabric of the good news is what William Loder calls the radical
inclusiveness of Jesus or simply put we are all part of God s kingdom . 8. He enlists fisherman, a tax
collector, and the open sharing of a meal

The Dangers Of Threats To The United States
The United States has many great threats to their security. There are people everyday who would do
anything to make sure the US can no longer be the biggest world power. The United States is currently
battling some pretty serious threats to their security such as: ISIS, cyber threats, climate change, and
nuclear security within other states. Globalization has hugely impacted America s position in the
world because of our democracy being the world s leading superpower and our MNC s contributing
greatly to American consumerism. ISIS or commonly known as ISIL poses a huge threat to the United
States today. Currently as the National Interest says ISIS currently controls thousands of square miles
of ungoverned territory (Gottlieb 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CNN states the CIA thinks cyber attacks have the second greatest potential for national destruction
behind only a nuclear attack (Goldman 2011). This statement explains how big of a security threat to
the United States cyber threats really are. There are hackers will hack important databases and collect
important/confidential information exclusive to the United States government. Firewalls cannot even
protect computers at this point. ISIS s physical attacks have been largely mitigated but their ability to
commit cyber warfare is troubling for the United States. CNN also warns that Though nations are
unlikely to attack our systems for fear of response from the United States, terrorists wouldn t hesitate.
That s a worry, since our government is woefully unprepared for such an event (Goldman 2011).
Overall, cyber threats are a huge security threat to the United States and the country as a whole is
unbelievably unprepared for that. Google defines climate change as a change in global or regional
climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and
attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil
fuels. Neil Oculi from Humanity In Action says Climate change presents both internal security threats
(threats geographically localized within the US) and external threats (threats existing in regions
outside the US that

A Brief Note On The National Mediation Board
Employees generally seek union representation because they feel their workplace rights from their
employer is not being met, or that they have an unfair disadvantage in regards to any needs or
workplace desires. They turn to unions to help bridge the gap and ease the power differential that
exists between employers and their employees. In order for a group of employees to obtain
representation, they must undergo an election process to choose their union or decide if they, as a unit,
want a union at all (Cox, Bok, Gorman, Finkin, 2012). Here, we will discuss the history of and
changes to the manner in which employee votes have been counted to determine an outcome in these
elections.
1. Prior to the National Mediation Board s (NMB) 2010 rule change, what was the primary difference
between how the election results were counted under the NLRA and the Railway Labor Act (RLA)?
For approximately seventy five years the only option an employee had to submit a vote against union
representation was to not vote at all. Under the Railway Labor Act, it specifically identifies that
employees shall have the right to determine who shall be representative of the craft or class 45 U.S.C
$ 152 but does not define that a specific no union choice was available. This was further exemplified
by the National Mediation Board who recognized non voters as representing a no vote and/or being
against union representation. Under this pretense and applicable to the ballot, which only

Machiavelli
Machiavelli
Nicolò Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy on May 3, 1469 to attorney Bernardo di Nicolò
Machiavelli and wife Bartolomea di Stefano Nelli. Despite being the third child, Machiavelli was the
first son born to the couple. Machiavelli was born in a tumultuous era in which popes waged
acquisitive wars against Italian city states, and people and cities often fell from power as France,
Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, and Switzerland battled for regional influence and control. Political
military alliances continually changed, featuring condottieri (mercenary leaders), who changed sides
without warning, and the rise and fall of many short lived governments. Peace was restored to
Florence in 1494 when the Medici family, who had ruled for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He drank in the company of peasants, fought in local villages and railed at his fate. At night, he
dressed in the old robes of office, sat at his desk, and wrote. He drew on his experiences in
government and composed a manifesto for pragmatic leadership (PBS). Machiavelli used his own
personal accounts and experiences in order to write The Prince. In the book, Machiavelli describes
how to take and maintain control of foreign lands with any means necessary, regardless of morals.
Because how one ought to live is so far removed from how one lives that he who lets go of what is
done for that which one ought to do sooner learns ruin than his own preservation: because a man who
might want to make a show of goodness in all things necessarily comes to ruin among so many who
are not good. Because of this it is necessary for a prince, wanting to maintain himself, to learn how to
be able to be not good and to use this and not use it according to necessity (Machiavelli). The Prince is
different from other books about creating and controlling principalities because it doesn t tell you what
an ideal prince or principality is, but Machiavelli explains through examples, which princes are the
most successful in obtaining and maintaining power. Machiavelli draws his examples from personal
observations made while he was on diplomatic missions for Florence and from his readings in ancient
history. His writing has the mark of the Renaissance upon it because he sprinkles his text with Latin
phrases and many examples are drawn from Classical

The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and the
days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed the
world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to traverse.
In this gray, dull world there is little in the way of color or light to be seen. The sky has become gray,
and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic world the use of
color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy utilizes this scarcity
of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old world and new, and
between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics. The primary use of this
contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task to carry the fire. The man and
boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape of gray, endlessly foraging in
wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers, cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak
landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man
and boy are one of the few people still holding on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands
they abandon it in order to survive. The world that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This
darkness ecompases not only the physical darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with
corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral
corruption that has engulfed humanity. In this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity.
Two of the last of the survivors carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt
world. Additionally, the boy s role as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s
ethical dilemma. The man has little desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown
into. Whereas the man s wife ultimately came to the conclusion that suicide was the only sane option
presented to them, the man is much more hesitant. After watching his life crumble around him the man
is left with a sole

Initial Thoughts From Patchwork Texts Essay
This essay sets out to combine initial thoughts from patchwork texts to explore how to become a
primary science leader. Patchwork texts are outlined by Winter (2003) as a series of small sections
which can be complete in itself, but becomes finalised when they are put together. Upon the initial
mention of patchwork texts, I was rather unsure and confused about what it entailed. After further
investigation in seminar and through extra readings I have begun to develop a better understanding of
this type of assessment. I could see the benefits to this type of format but also some uncertainties. Just
like the peers in my group I had reservations about uploading my patches online due to embarrassment
of writing styles and opinions of my work. Ovens (2003) highlights that some students had personal
doubt and worries about their own ideas and felt vulnerable at the prospect of having these ideas
discussed in class. However, having others see my patches provided me with feedback and enabled me
to reflect and deepen my understanding of each topic (Ovens, 2003 and Winter, 2003). It was almost
instant and allowed me to reflect during my thinking process, which Boud (2000) believes enables a
deeper understanding of individual weaknesses. Assessments are supposed to stimulate learning; by
having this continuous assessment it gave me time to develop my thinking and make sense of it
(Ovens, 2003; Winter, 2003; Trevelyan and Wilson, 2012). Henceforth, resulting in a deeper
understanding

  • 2. Culture Is Defined As The Internet And Mass Media Culture is defined as the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time (Merriam Webster, 2015). Different continents, from Far East Asia to the West Most point of the Antarctica, holds their own unique traditions and cultures. Modern form of communication, such as the internet and mass media, had exposed us to various different cultures, thousands miles away from us, enabling us to see with our own eyes their practices and traditions. Despite that, does the images and recordings we see with our eyes through the media are enough to convey all the values in the culture itself? Our view on the matter may be different that from how others, especially the locals, sees the matter itself due to the fact that the visual we see does not hold enough of the emotions and values in the culture itself. In order to send deeper messages that cannot be merely perceived only with visuals, poetry plays a considerable amount of role in the representation of a culture. Why does poetry have the ability to fully portray a culture? Poetry have the ability to display a culture due to the fact that a poet who writes poems about a certain culture usually had either encountered the culture themselves or practice the culture and the customs in their daily life. This statement is similar to what Ava McCall said in her articles Using Poetry in Social Studies Classes to Teach about Cultural Diversity and Social Justice , that poets often write poems according to ... The Beach Carrier is a new type of beach bag that is designed to assist the user in carrying everything they needed to go to the beach. It s easy storage is its main advantage, as it can fold up for easy storage. The Beach Carrier has many strengths and weaknesses; however, it seems to offer more strengths. Strengths The bags ability to fold down and become more compact is its major selling point Having the size and capacity to carry everything one needs for a day at the beach is also a huge plus and is the main need the product is filling It s cheap. What are the pros and cons of alternative distribution methods? The biggest benefit that the mail order marketing strategy will yield to Ricci is that she gets to choose when and where the Beach Carrier is offered for sale. With this feature she can choose who distributes her product as well. The next big pro for the mail order strategy is that she will receive immediate feedback on the effectiveness of the system. If after the first wave goes out there is a lag in sales, she may need to think of a new method to market/sell her product. A major disadvantage to the mail order system is that oftentimes a small picture in a catalog is not an effective representation of the product itself and could turn people off to potentially purchasing the Beach Carrier. Another con to this system is that Ricci may not be reaching enough of the target consumers through her system. Her target demographic, women, would not necessarily be reached by a Boating magazine. Also, advertising through a magazine is a very ineffective way to reach a large market because it is very unlikely that many potential customers are subscribed to that ... Many minors use it as a form of entertainment and interaction between friends and even other people around the world. Although minors use social media as a form of entertainment and interaction, nevertheless minors should not be able to use social media because it causes health issues, exposes them to explicit content, and promotes violence. This shows that social media is too violent for minors to use. Likewise, in The Impact of Media Violence on Children and Adolescents: Opportunities for Clinical Interventions it is specified that children s exposure to media violence plays an important role in the etiology of violent behavior (Beresin). This shows that social media causes violence. In both articles, evidence there is strong correlation between social media use and violence in minors is presented. • 6. The Good Roads Bill By President Woodrow Wilson The Good Roads Bill was signed in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson, but this law took decades of work by cycling activists to go from an idea to the oval office. The first mention of the poor road quality in America came on December 30, 1894 After this mention, the Good Roads Movement starts to spread. On May 26, 1895, the movement begins to spread to New York via political and democratic power. In mid 1985, in a time where good roads was growing momentum noted by the Gossip of the Cyclers column, apropos of good roads, the association of that name has since justly acquired a greater importance than it previously enjoyed. After putting $40,000 of roads in the city, a New Jersey town saw an increase in change and real estate prices. There was significantly more crops being moved in and out of the city due to the improved road quality. This success story became an example that the Good Roads Movement brought up continually when fighting for legislation, and it happened as early as 1896 (6). The Good Roads movement eventually had to get politically involved to lobby for money for roads. The cyclists started to partner with the farmers to influence regulation around the state of New York. An employee of the Agricultural Department of the Government said, the bicycle did more toward the cause of good roads than all the agitators since the time of Adam. This employee was saying that cyclists were the biggest activists for good roads since MacAdams engineered the MacAdams roads. The employee continues to say the the government is looking to continue improving roads. Based on the two quotes here, it is clear that cyclists in the Good Roads Movement helped persuade the government to create better roads (8). By October, new roads, bridges, and education policies were being put into place. Cyclists worked consistently to put in a bridge across an obstructive river in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lynn Brezosky reported that U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin cut the ribbon for the launch of the nation s fourth base for operating border surveillance drones. This is important in securing the U.S. Mexico border, which the U.S. has an approximate 1,933 mile long border with Mexico (Beaver). According to Duncan Hunter, however, the State Representative of the 52nd district of California, The Department of Homeland Security has indicated its intention to build 370 miles of border fencing even though the Secure Fence Act calls for more than double that length. And on May 10, 2011 in El Paso, Texas, President Obama stated the border fence is now basically complete. (Krauthammer) The fence failure brings me to my next point about its faults. The fence is nowhere near complete, yet the President himself is claiming that it is complete. On the contrary, Nicole Miller reported in the Texas International Law Journal that The latest reports from June 2009 reported that 633 miles of the original 700 were completed (Miller 8). The 700 miles of fencing may have been built, but that still leaves over 1,200 miles of unsecured border. The fence has been placed only at certain points where they slow immediate entry into cities and roads. Just beyond the cities and roads the fence ends unexpectedly; so the illegal traffic simply avoids the more guarded fence and goes around. • 9. History Of The Confederate Flag Chase Jones History of the confederate flag In the past couple of year, there has been a controversial battle over the flying of the Confederate Flag on government buildings. The controversy has really started to stir up in the southern states such as South Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia. On January 30, 2001, the state of Georgia changed its flag, removing the large Confederate battle cross from the 1956 design and replacing it with the state seal of Georgia. Now, the state of Mississippi is the only state that fearlessly displays the Southern Cross in its state flag. Though several Southerners see the Confederate Flag as a symbol of southern pride and heritage, many others see the flag as a dishonorable reminder of slavery and segregation in the south. Although this flag is under great controversy in the southern states, there is no reason why this flag should not be flown from government buildings because it isn t demoralizing African Americans in the symbolization of slavery, segregation and domination although it is used by many hate groups across the united states they too need a history lesson because the confederate flag only started as a battle flag that some blacks fought under and held with pride. Objective Meaning Many people walk around not worry about whether or not life has any objective meaning, at least most of the time, and when they do think on the topic of the meaning of life, they seem assured that there is some objective meaning. For many, this objective meaning lies in their religion. The notion that God creates the meaning in life does make some sense. For if God created humans, it is reasonable that he created them with intention and purpose. Now this might not be the purpose people want to have, but it is purpose for them none the less. Women were displayed to be very dependent on male characters to come rescue them, no signs of independency are apparent until recent contemporary films. In the movies Mulan and Aladdin, the women were more free spirited and less dependent on men. In this case, Disney films begins to break that barrier of gender roles within a relationship as a couple, changing the view of gender expectations similar to this day. Around the early 20th century, women never gained freedom or rights like how it is today. Expected to stay home, manage the house, please their husband, and depend on the men to bring or come home with their needs. The Importance Of Role Models For Young Children Role models are particularly important for young children, and are a key factor in theirbehaviour and the development of their identity (Aacap, 2017). Children may have several role models who they admire and aspire to become, it is the actions of these role models that have an impact upon how children think and behave. Although not all role models are good, those that are can have a positive impact on children by encouraging them to have greater self esteem. They also encourage children to strive for and achieve goals and help them to gain good work habits to have a successful career in the future. (Livestrong, 2017). There are two main complexes in this architecture, the older complex that is constructed in 1910 and an additional edition in 1930. Throughout the years, the Sacred Heart Church has constantly been adding additional architectural structures and expanding its size. Both complexes in the Sacred Heart Church are rectangular in plan. They both are red brick structure with dull green tiled roof. The roof does not cantilever over the structure hence the shadeless entrance, sides, corridors and gardens. The newer structure is larger in size, with the longer axis perpendicular to 14th street, whereas the second complex s longer axis is parallel to it. The contradiction in terms of Western civilization, however, was also was made obvious right from the start. The Greek s attention on individuals arose from a slavery based society. The focus on individual rights created both a democratic system and an increase in learning, as well as scientific revolutions that would remain unique until the Renaissance. Adding onto the Greek groundwork, the Romans furthered another significant keystone of Western civilization; the establishment of laws. Through the collapse of Rome and increasing Germanic barbarian invasions, the foundations of Western civilization had fundamentally vanished. They were not put back into effect until the Italian Renaissance inspired massive attention to the traditional texts. As a result, a change in European thinking switched from The Almighty back to the individual. Starting chiefly as a theocratic and nationalist movement, the Reformation in Germany provided an assortment of nationwide securities. It prohibited the Roman Church from restricting academic discussion in northern Europe. • 27. What Are The Legal Issues Related To The Ford Motor Company Memorandum TO: Jonathan Foster, Head of the Legal Analytics Department FROM: Sawyer Folks, Business Analyst DATE: April 27, 2015 SUBJECT: Ford Motor Company Background The Ford Motor Company has had a rather tarnished legal history. Ford got into some hot water in the 1990s and 2000s over multiple safety scandals. One of these scandals occurred in 1996 and involved faulty ignition switches that would short and cause fires. The ignition switch scandal then led to Ford being sued by State Farm for neglecting to release information about the faulty ignition switches and their tendency to start fires. Perhaps the most famous Ford safety scandal of all took place during the 1970s when Ford released the Pinto. As a consequence of a poor design, the fuel tank was located near the cars bumper and had virtually zero protection mechanisms in place. This design flaw led to many fatal explosions from the car being struck from behind. Ford ended up having to pay millions of dollars in civil cases as a result of injuries and deaths related to the design of the Pinto. Ford had to fork over $125 million dollars in damages in just one civil case, although this was a special case. There were other cases in which Ford executives were found innocent of any murder charges at all. There was a very diverse and wide spectrum of cases related to the Pinto incident. The case itself deals with a former football player, O.J. Simpson who is charged with the murder of his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. This time period led many people into great turmoil. Families were suffering to get by and did almost anything they could to survive. Money was very limited for the majority of people because of the stock market crash of 1929 and the bank panics of the early 1930s causing the worst economic downturn in history (Encyclopedia.com). The Great Depression had a huge impact on modern day literature. It represented the time of despair and sorrow while emphasizing the horrible conditions one had to go through hoping for a better life. Many authors tried to teach a historical event while also instilling life lessons about hope and overcoming obstacles. A big input from authors was new styles of themes with incorporation of realism and modernism (Linde) where they bring personal experiences to their audiences. The history of Kraft Foods Incorporated is a long and complex timeline of events, but these three founders were a huge part of the foundation of this business. Through this long history, Kraft has acquired more than 70 major brands (The History of, n.d., pg. 5). Kraft Foods Incorporated is now the world s second largest food company with annual revenues of $49.2 billion (Kraft Foods, 2010, pg. 3). They are obviously a force to be reckoned with in the food industry, so how did they make such a big mistake, and how did it affect them in the long run? Ready to Roll Sweepstakes In June of 1989, Kraft Foods Incorporated put a promotional sweepstakes in newspapers in Chicago and Houston in an attempt to attract the attention of those markets which they did but not necessarily in a good way. This promotion was called Ready to Roll, and it involved matching game pieces. The right half of these game pieces were printed out onto promotional flyers found in newspapers in Chicago and Houston. The left half of the game pieces could be found in specially marked Kraft cheese slice packages. If these pieces were matched together and sent in by the June 16 deadline then they could win ... • 41. Torture Argumentative Essay Over centuries throughout the world, torture has been a debated and very controversial topic. For the past week, I have read articles written by four separate authors who share their opinion on the topic. The articles take you through the opinions of the authors and many compelling arguments. Is torture inhumane? Is torture barbaric? Does the use of torture discredit our moral standings? Could you be given bad intelligence even with the use of torture? After reading the information provided in these four articles, I have not only become aware of the issues, but I have also formed my own opinion. According to Michael Levins, The Case for Torture , over time there have been occasions in which torture is seen as simply essential and tolerable. One claim Levin uses in his article is an atomic bomb attack made by terrorists. If the suspect is caught and in police custody, the question is are the officers suppose to just stick to protocol or should they be doing anything possible to get the information they need to save all those people? , even if that means to put the man in unbearable circumstances. Levine argues that millions of innocent lives are worth more than this one mass murder, but we are going to let him win because torture is unconstitutional and barbaric. Levin goes on to explain that if we can view torture as necessary means in an extreme case like that, we can see that the choice of torture is simply a balancing act of innocent lives and what it will take to ... • 42. Gospel Is The Good News The word gospel is derived from Old English meaning good news or glad tidings . The Greek word euangelion which means good message is the the source for the word evangelist. 1. Mark s Gospel, now considered the first of the synoptic gospels makes no delay in the identification of who this man, Jesus, is. He is the Messiah, the anointed one, from the Greek word Christos. From the very first verse of this Gospel, the evangelist knows and proclaims who Jesus is: the Messiah, the Son of God. 2. Now this evangelist will, through his Gospel, begin a discourse which will allow all the characters from the disciples to the centurion to realize that Surely, this was the Son of God. Mark 15: 39. John baptized with water, but the good news of Jesus coming is that he will baptize with the Holy Spirit which is proclaimed by John the Baptist in verse 8. 7. When Jesus heals the paralyzed man and then tells him that his sins are forgiven the teachers of the law are incredulous. This is part of the good news. Jesus has the power to forgive sins however upsetting it is to the religious establishment. Mark 1:15 goes up to say to believe in the good news. Belief, faith, is the core of the good news. Mark 9:23 sums it best: Everything is possible for one who believes . Mark 11: 24; Therefore I tell you whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours . Jesus also shows the healing power of faith in Mark 2:5,34 and 10:52 as he heals the paralytic man and the woman who touched his clothes wishing to be healed. He teaches us a valuable lesson in that it was their faith that healed them which should be an example for us today. Another motif which is sewn in the fabric of the good news is what William Loder calls the radical inclusiveness of Jesus or simply put we are all part of God s kingdom . 8. There are people everyday who would do anything to make sure the US can no longer be the biggest world power. The United States is currently battling some pretty serious threats to their security such as: ISIS, cyber threats, climate change, and nuclear security within other states. Globalization has hugely impacted America s position in the world because of our democracy being the world s leading superpower and our MNC s contributing greatly to American consumerism. CNN states the CIA thinks cyber attacks have the second greatest potential for national destruction behind only a nuclear attack (Goldman 2011). This statement explains how big of a security threat to the United States cyber threats really are. There are hackers will hack important databases and collect important/confidential information exclusive to the United States government. Firewalls cannot even protect computers at this point. ISIS s physical attacks have been largely mitigated but their ability to commit cyber warfare is troubling for the United States. CNN also warns that Though nations are unlikely to attack our systems for fear of response from the United States, terrorists wouldn t hesitate. That s a worry, since our government is woefully unprepared for such an event (Goldman 2011). Overall, cyber threats are a huge security threat to the United States and the country as a whole is unbelievably unprepared for that. • 45. A Brief Note On The National Mediation Board Employees generally seek union representation because they feel their workplace rights from their employer is not being met, or that they have an unfair disadvantage in regards to any needs or workplace desires. They turn to unions to help bridge the gap and ease the power differential that exists between employers and their employees. In order for a group of employees to obtain representation, they must undergo an election process to choose their union or decide if they, as a unit, want a union at all (Cox, Bok, Gorman, Finkin, 2012). Here, we will discuss the history of and changes to the manner in which employee votes have been counted to determine an outcome in these elections. 1. Prior to the National Mediation Board s (NMB) 2010 rule change, what was the primary difference between how the election results were counted under the NLRA and the Railway Labor Act (RLA)? For approximately seventy five years the only option an employee had to submit a vote against union representation was to not vote at all. Under the Railway Labor Act, it specifically identifies that employees shall have the right to determine who shall be representative of the craft or class 45 U.S.C $ 152 but does not define that a specific no union choice was available. This was further exemplified by the National Mediation Board who recognized non voters as representing a no vote and/or being against union representation. Under this pretense and applicable to the ballot, which only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Machiavelli Machiavelli Nicolò Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy on May 3, 1469 to attorney Bernardo di Nicolò Machiavelli and wife Bartolomea di Stefano Nelli. Despite being the third child, Machiavelli was the first son born to the couple. Machiavelli was born in a tumultuous era in which popes waged acquisitive wars against Italian city states, and people and cities often fell from power as France, Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, and Switzerland battled for regional influence and control. Political military alliances continually changed, featuring condottieri (mercenary leaders), who changed sides without warning, and the rise and fall of many short lived governments. Peace was restored to Florence in 1494 when the Medici family, who had ruled for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He drank in the company of peasants, fought in local villages and railed at his fate. At night, he dressed in the old robes of office, sat at his desk, and wrote. He drew on his experiences in government and composed a manifesto for pragmatic leadership (PBS). Machiavelli used his own personal accounts and experiences in order to write The Prince. In the book, Machiavelli describes how to take and maintain control of foreign lands with any means necessary, regardless of morals. Because how one ought to live is so far removed from how one lives that he who lets go of what is done for that which one ought to do sooner learns ruin than his own preservation: because a man who might want to make a show of goodness in all things necessarily comes to ruin among so many who are not good. Because of this it is necessary for a prince, wanting to maintain himself, to learn how to be able to be not good and to use this and not use it according to necessity (Machiavelli). The Prince is different from other books about creating and controlling principalities because it doesn t tell you what an ideal prince or principality is, but Machiavelli explains through examples, which princes are the most successful in obtaining and maintaining power. Machiavelli draws his examples from personal observations made while he was on diplomatic missions for Florence and from his readings in ancient history. His writing has the mark of the Renaissance upon it because he sprinkles his text with Latin phrases and many examples are drawn from Classical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and the days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed the world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to traverse. In this gray, dull world there is little in the way of color or light to be seen. The sky has become gray, and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic world the use of color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy utilizes this scarcity of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old world and new, and between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics. The primary use of this contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task to carry the fire. The man and boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape of gray, endlessly foraging in wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers, cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man and boy are one of the few people still holding on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands they abandon it in order to survive. The world that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This darkness ecompases not only the physical darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral corruption that has engulfed humanity. In this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity. Two of the last of the survivors carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt world. Additionally, the boy s role as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s ethical dilemma. The man has little desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown into. Whereas the man s wife ultimately came to the conclusion that suicide was the only sane option presented to them, the man is much more hesitant. After watching his life crumble around him the man is left with a sole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Initial Thoughts From Patchwork Texts Essay This essay sets out to combine initial thoughts from patchwork texts to explore how to become a primary science leader. Patchwork texts are outlined by Winter (2003) as a series of small sections which can be complete in itself, but becomes finalised when they are put together. Upon the initial mention of patchwork texts, I was rather unsure and confused about what it entailed. After further investigation in seminar and through extra readings I have begun to develop a better understanding of this type of assessment. I could see the benefits to this type of format but also some uncertainties. Just like the peers in my group I had reservations about uploading my patches online due to embarrassment of writing styles and opinions of my work. Ovens (2003) highlights that some students had personal doubt and worries about their own ideas and felt vulnerable at the prospect of having these ideas discussed in class. However, having others see my patches provided me with feedback and enabled me to reflect and deepen my understanding of each topic (Ovens, 2003 and Winter, 2003). It was almost instant and allowed me to reflect during my thinking process, which Boud (2000) believes enables a deeper understanding of individual weaknesses. Assessments are supposed to stimulate learning; by having this continuous assessment it gave me time to develop my thinking and make sense of it (Ovens, 2003; Winter, 2003; Trevelyan and Wilson, 2012). Henceforth, resulting in a deeper understanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
