Abstract: The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is becoming popular areas of
research under pattern recognition and smart device applications. It requires the intelligence
like human brain to recognize the various handwritten characters. Artificial Neural Network
(ANN) is used together the information required to recognize the characters adaptively. This
paper presents a performance analysis of character recognition by Scale Invariant Feature
(SIF) matrix with a Back Propagation Neural network (BPN). A GUI based OCR system is
developed using Mat lab. The results are shown for the English alphabets and numeric. This
is observed that the perceptron network converges faster, whereas the BPN can handle the
complex script recognition when the training set is enriched.

At first glance the poem One Perfect Rose may seem like a poem about love and romance, but further
analysis shows the opposite. The first two stanzas of the poem can be misleading, as they lead one to
believe that it s a romantic moment to a past memory. However, with the poems sudden change in
tone, the third stanza takes on more of a cynical view. You hear the dissatisfaction in the speaker s
tone, as she wants more. The title conveys irony, as it shows that the rose is anything but perfect. In a
way the poem seems to describe Parkers feelings about life, even though she had a lot going for her

one has to understand the context in which the poem was written in. It was written in 1937 when the
Great Depression occurred. Because Parker faced many financial uncertainties, all she really wanted
was to be sure she was financially stable. The phrase one perfect rose is repeated throughout stanza 1
and stanza 2, thus making it a refrain. On the other hand, the mocking repetition of one perfect
indicates the underlining attitude of the speaker in the last stanza. Suddenly the phrase one perfect rose
becomes disrupted when the speaker desires one perfect limousine. Moreover, the tone suddenly
changes when she states, do you suppose? . The question is implied to the reader as the poem takes on
more of a conversational tone. The poem suddenly takes on more of a sarcastic tone, as a lot of
Dorothy Parkers poem are really known for. They are known for their witty remarks and irony. Line
11 and 12 states, Ah no, it s always just my luck to get one perfect rose. The fact that she states ah no
signifies disappointment, but it also becomes more conversational instead of formal. In line 11 the

shook him to the core. This was a basic human reaction to death. Death is unpleasant and generally
unwelcome, so why must we kill someone who is just as alive as we are? The condemned man feels,
sees, and thinks like us, an equal. The condemned man was considered equal by the dog in the essay. I
see the dog as symbolism for equality. It did not matter to the dog that the man was sentenced to
death. He was another human being, a potential friend that was alive and well. After the execution, the
dog seemed to know the wrongness of not only his misbehaving but that of taking a life as well. I
think that everyone is an equal and that life is something special. Everyone seems to deal with death
differently. As the essay concludes, Orwell mentions how everyone was laughing and that it was a
homely and jovial scene. I do not think that I would be laughing after the death of someone who was
hung right in front of me. Most people tend to be solemn and sad after someone dies but certainly not
laughing. I believe that for some laughing is just a coping mechanism used to deal with the gravity of
