A focus group provides the ideal setting from which to gather unbiased, authentic and in depth
information. However, a focus group is only a success if the moderator creates a suitable setting for
directing, recording and analysing discussions in a natural and unbiased manner. Planning, directing
and recording focus groups does not create problems for researchers, but analysing information takes a
great deal of time and expertise.
And yet while analysing information is the most important step in focus group research, it is also
where most researchers fail to deliver. The findings of a focus group are valuable only if the researcher
analyses the information in a fair and unbiased manner, which is, unfortunately, not always the case. It
is not unheard of for some researchers to filter out what they don t want to hear, create presentations
based on what they think they have heard, or in fact, not analyse the information at all.
A vast amount of information is discussed during a focus

Speech of Introduction General Purpose: To introduce myself through the use of two objects, a softball
and a piece of clay. Introduction Someone once said that the past is where you must learn the lesson
and the future is where you apply the lesson. A. (Thesis Statement) Today, I, Natalie Byle, will
introduce myself to you through two objects representing my past and future; a softball and a piece of
clay. I. (Preview Main Points) I will be sharing with you my past as a softball player and how it
forever changed me and impacted my future which I hope to mold into something great. II. Body A.

(Sub Point # 1) Growing up I moved a lot for my dad s job, I went to six different schools in three
states. One thing that stayed constant through those transitions was my love for softball. Playing the
game gave me the opportunity to create lasting friendships each time that I moved. 2. (Sub Point # 2)
In addition, the sport taught me more about myself and life than I would have ever dreamt imaginable.
I learned that I am a leader and a great teamplayer, I also leared an abundance of life lessons for
example; practice makes perfect, criticism isn t always failure, following the rules is the only way to
succeed and how to be a good sport. TRANSITION STATEMENT In the past softball played an
enormous role in my life and the life lessons the sport has taught me I hope to carry with me for the
rest of my life. 1. (Main Point # 2) In my left hand I hold a piece of clay. And as strange as it sounds
this piece of clay represents my unpredicted future. 2. (Sub Point # 1) Given that I am just eighteen

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Essay
Introduction
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, also called acute lymphocytic leukemia, acute lymphoid leukemia, or
ALL; is the most common cancer in childhood. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer of the blood
and bone marrow. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia has a higher rate of affecting Caucasians than
African Americans and is more commonly diagnosed in males. Studies have found that genetics may
predispose children to develop leukemia. Several studies have been conducted trying to link
environmental factors, such as: exposure to pesticides and herbicides; maternal use of alcohol,
cigarettes, and contraceptives; and chemical contamination of groundwater to the diagnosis of
leukemia, but currently no definitively link to childhood has been established. [3]
Pathogenesis
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the abnormal white blood cells accumulating in bone marrow. Acute
lymphoblastic leukemia rapidly spreads through the body by replacing healthy cells with leukemia
cells. Leukemia cells are carried in the blood stream to other organs such as the liver, spleen, lymph
nodes, and brain. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The general symptoms for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which are non specific symptoms are weight

conditions, not just acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer of
the blood cells, it can cause symptoms related to shortages of normal blood cells due to the
overcrowding of leukemia cells in the bone marrow. These signs and symptoms include: feeling tired,
weak, dizzy or lightheaded, shortness of breath, fever, pale skin coloration, bruising easily, frequent or
severe nosebleeds and/or bleeding gums, petechial, painless lumps in the neck, underarm, stomach or

Minimum Legal Drinking Age Should the drinking age be lowered from 21 to a younger age? Ever
since the end of prohibition in 1933 the United States government has placed the issue of minimum
legal drinking age sensitively in the hands of the states, letting each decide for itself what the
minimum age should be. At that time all agreed that the minimum legal drinking age should be 21,
where it remained for all states until 1970.Between 1970, and 1975 a number of states played around
with the idea of lowering that age to 20, 19, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also argue of the lowering the MLDA argue the teens have not yet reached an age where they
can handle alcohol responsibly, and thus are more likely to harm or even kill themselves and others by
drinking prior to 21. They contend the traffic fatalities decreased when MLDA increased. The repeal
of alcohol prohibition by the 21st amendment on December 5, 1933 allowed each state to set its own
alcohol consumption law. In the time, some states established the minimum legal drinking age for
alcohol at 21 years old. However, two states set a minimum legal drinking age of 21 for men and 18
for woman.
In the U.S. Supreme Court Casa Craig V. borne ruled 7 2 that his age difference violence violated the
equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, which lowered the legal voting age from 21 to 18
years old. 30 U.S. states lowered the MLDA to 18, 19, or 20 by 1982, on 14 states still had MLDA of
21. Some of the consumption of alcohol by people under 21 is generally legal across the United States.
However, 45 states have set exceptions that allow underage drinking consumption of alcohol in certain
circumstances. For example, underage drinking is allowed in 29 states if done on private premises
with parental consents, 25 states if for religious purposes and two states if for educational purposes.

Pestle Is Used For Track The Environment
PESTLE
Political
PESTLE is analysis is used to track the environment they are operating in or planning to launch.
PESTLE stands for political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental. The political
factors are how much the government are involved in the economy. This can be government policy or
political stability/instability and many more. Other political factors are minimum wage and living
wage increasing. When this is increasing Rimmel have to pay all of their staff more money to match
the minimum wage. By removing benefits people who usually get them will find it hard to buy certain
things if they are in a single family as they will only have one income.
Economic
Some economic factors are interest rates, exchange rates and inflation. At the moment the economy is
in a good position and customers can have better spending power. This is because the interest rates are
low and inflation is also low which means the economy is growing. Economic growth has increased
which means that many more people have jobs and therefore earn more money to buy products. This
is good for Rimmel as they then get more people buying their products which can lead to more profit
for the company. Interest rates are also low therefore customers are now not spending as much on
mortgages and loans which means they have more spending power. Inflation is another factor which is
low but has been increasing. This means that it costs more money for companies to produce products

Questions On Students Mean Performance
RESULTS
The mean GPA for the sample was 3.23 (4.0 = maximum). Students mean performance in the six
majors courses ranged from B to A . The 200 level foundational course had the highest mean quality
points (11.72) compared to the other five required courses. Across all six courses, students were more
likely to earn A s (22 90%) than C s (0.5% 6%).
At midterm, all 14 individual indicators earned mean scores of at least 3.74 (Table 1). Three indicators
(Establish priorities for completion of responsibilities; Respond appropriately to questions from clients
and students; and Demonstrate culture, gender, and racial sensitivity) attained means in excess of 4 at
midterm. By the time of internship s conclusion, only Demonstrate grant writing skills, had a mean
lower than 4 . All other individual indicators earned means of 4.16 and above at the end of internship.
Regardless of the individual indicator, all means improved at an internship s conclusion relative to
midterm. Preceptors overall evaluation of interns performance likewise increased from midterm (3.67)
to final (4.42) assessment.
Consistent with their assessment of individual indicators, preceptors observed students improvement
over time across each of the seven NCHEC Areas of Responsibility (Table 3). At midterm, means

Anti Hispanic Racism In America
When Americans think of racism, they usually think of slavery, and that racism is no longer a problem
in America. However, this is not the case. Racism is still obvious in America. Racism can be linked
directly to stereotypical mindsets of certain groups of people. Today s racism is not restricted to whites
and blacks, and it has come to define many different groups and races. Pigmentation as well as
physical characteristics and features still are influential for classifying people. It is easy to overlook
the racism that hides below the surface and is part of American life. Today, an estimate 54 million
Latinos live in the U.S. and around 43 million people speak Spanish. Although Latinos are the country
s largest minority, anti Latino prejudice is still common. Very few Americans recognize, acknowledge,
and respect the contributions of one of America s greatest ethnic groups Hispanics. Americans are
often confused as to who Hispanics really are and what they represent in America. Although the
United States is known for having a melting pot of diverse cultures, recent studies have shown the rise
of discrimination against Latinos and Hispanics immigrants. A person s legal status should not be an
excuse for mistreatment.
Civil rights have been the example of our constitutional history. How we treat and respect others has
been the foundation of American democracy, yet despite this constitutional and moral obligation,
modern day anti Hispanic racism continues to define who we

The weekly newspaper North American was published in Swanton, Vermont from 1839 to 1841. The
particular issues chosen for this paper were distributed to the town from May 1st to May 29th 1839,
encompassing an entire month of publications. The newspaper was centrally focused on Canadian
rights and independence, specifically sovereignty from the British colonial government. Originating in
modern day Quebec, (then called Lower Canada) this independence movement was sparked by a
rebellion against the Crown by the Parti patriote , or Patriote Party and their followers from 1837 to

The cause of the Quebec Rebellions of 1837 was the result of longstanding disputes about the nature
of the British colonial government, a serious economic depression, and the growth of an urban
Anglophone population. The rebellion was short lived and quickly put down by the Lower
Canadian/British colonial government. Following the failed insurrection, many rebels sought refuge in
the town of Swanton, Vermont not only due to its proximity to the border to Canada but also due to the
fact that the town held many American supporters of the movement as well. The primary focus of the
paper was specifically to highlight the injustices against the Parti Patriote by the colonial government
including highlighting the individuals who had been imprisoned, banished or killed. On the first page
of each issue of North American is a section entitled People of Canada! Remember that the blood of
martyrs in the cause of FREEDOM calls aloud for vengeance at your hands. The following is a list of
those who have fallen victims of despotism, in the Lower Province . The section lists twenty names of
people who had been killed by the British government in Lower Canada, due to their affiliation to the
Patriotes. For example, in the May 1st issue, the paper gives lengthy two page biography of a man

Difference Between Football And American Football
American football vs European football (soccer)
On November 1869, Princeton and Rutgers played the first intercollegiate football game in New
Brunswick, New Jersey, using a soccer style game with rules adapted from the London Football
Association (Michael Oriard 2017). American football is a combination of two English sport, rugby
and soccer. In term of popularity, soccer is most popular sport in the world, whereas American football
is only popular in the United States. American Football and soccer have differences such as the
protections gears, the shape of the ball, the way they score points and numbers of leagues. The
comparison between American Football and soccer reveals that soccer is easier to understand and
safer than American Football. Firstly, Injuries is a very common thing in both sports, but American
Football have a very high rate of injuries compare to soccer. American Football is a physical and
violent sports that requires physical and mental strength, according to a study, football players had the

Battle Company faced one of the hardest conflicts of the entire War in Afghanistan. The men of Battle

Effective Approaches in Leadership and Management Nurses demonstrate the core values of
professionally caring for others in two different prospects. Huber (2014), notes that nurses have two
basic roles: care providers and care coordinators (p. 3). Most significantly nurses are valued in the
setting of patient care, while the coordinator role revolves around management and organizing care,
using thinking skills to coordinate complex activities. Nursing is multifaceted, although direct quality
patient care is of significance, a positive leader or manager is also essential to support the recent

A roll out date with super users available to troubleshoot and maintain staff productivity and
compliance would be beneficial. The last aspect of strategic management is evaluating the
effectiveness of strategies used. Huber (2014), describes analysis needs to review four areas: strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) (p. 334). Through prioritization, the threats are
avoided, weakness are lessened and strengths are empowered to increase patient safety with
medication administration, by insuring patients receive the right drug at the right time to the right
patient (Weston Roberts, 2013. para. 11). Most importunately, applying shared governance or allowing
decision making amongst the staff, allows leaders to inforce equality in the nursing workforce. Shared
governance is an important current focus in nursing practice, as the desire for increased autonomy and
accountability is encouraged with voicing of nursing opinions to assist in better quality healthcare.
Huber (2014) mentions that shared governance is a partnership between management and clinical
staff. Research suggests that registered nurses who are empowered to make decisions through shared
governance have higher nurse autonomy and increased confidence in decision making (p. 249). As
discussed, positive personality qualities, use of strategic management and including the partnership of
shared governance all directly facilitates a leader or mangers

Packaging And Labelling Are Two Important Aspects Of...
Introduction:
Packaging and Labelling are two very important aspects of modern marketing, which puts a
significant effect on the success of the business. Labelling is considered as a wrapper or container of
the product whereas a part of the printed or written note that is put on the package is considered as the
label.
Colourful paper labels, the first form of commercial art was first brought forward by a European artist.
It is both used as a product identifier and an eye catcher for the consumers since 1880.This art, which
later became a profession of lithography, was used on packaging cases of fruits, boxes of cigars and on
cans of vegetables. The world s first self adhesive labels was established by an entrepreneur,
R.Stanton Avery and it turned to a very profitable business.
In the recent days, all sorts of companies takes huge interest in packaging and labelling their products,
keeping their targeted customers on mind and these have now become a very successful business
entity. Nevertheless, these have to be continuously innovated and recreated to keep the mass
consumers attracted towards the product. Packaging and labelling help marketing the product in a
numerous ways and thus through these the companies can reach the targeted consumers, ultimately
making a strong place in the retail market. Still, the Australian market of packaging and labelling is
comparatively minor in terms of international standards.

regular history books. Although some are random there fun facts that you may or may not know about
my topic.
The Life of Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson was born Friday March 15, 1767. He was raised in Waxhaw, North Carolina. His
parents had three children, him, Hugh, and Robert. Before he was born they and his parents emigrated
from Ireland almost two years before he was born. He was named after his father that had died before
he was born.
He was raised by his mother in which was a widower. She raised him on a settlement near the North
and South Carolina border. He had a large family of Irish immigrant farmers. His mother wanted him
to become a minister but he went in a completely different direction at a young age. Young Andrew
began to cuss, fight, and even pull pranks on different people in the town.
The American Revolutionary War was now all around him and his two brothers. The effect it had on
his life was devastating. He and his brothers joined the war to fight for the cause. Jackson was only
thirteen years old. His brother Hugh soon died of heat stroke in Battle of Stono Ferry in 1779.

Coaches are able to work with students and change their lives. In my career I have coached many
young students, but the one thing that puzzled me was the barriers causing some students not to
participate. What are the barriers for students to not want to participate in athletics or other physical
activities? This was the question that I ask myself when I look at some students that don t participate
in sports. I understand that sports are not for everyone in the student population, but why are some
students so hesitant to exercise? Some students are not participating in physical activates because
there are too many barriers for them. I started my research by doing an online search for barriers to
physical activity. After numerous searches I found a website that featured many reasons people don t
participate in physical activates. The biggest break in my research was when I found an article titled
Male Adolescents Reasons for Participating in Physical Activity, Barriers to Participation, and
Suggestions for Increasing Participation . This article provided me with a variety of information about
why male students choose to not participate in sports. Through further research I was able to locate an
article on why females choose not to participate in sports. Armed with very useful tools I was ready to
start diving deeper into this topic. When I was researching my topic I tried to narrow my results for

Programming Models Of Wsn System
Research Proposal Title Programming Models of WSN System: A State of the Art Survey Introduction
There are a lot scenarios need different sensor nodes to collaborate and integrated on the air into
networks to facilitate applications. The scaled down censoring system presented below is an example
of those wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this system sensors are different between corridors area
and manufacturing area, since they need different precise level. Those sensors combined together by
different wireless AP and provide services to different applications inside and outside the plant. This is
where virtualization shines. Virtualization creates an uniformed environment in heterogeneous sensor
networks. It bridge the gap between infrastructure and applications. And the network and sensor
virtualization can achieved by the middleware. Middleware hide unnecessary details and complexity
of the underlying heterogeneous infrastructures, like different sensor nodes and different wireless AP
in the presented scenario. Software designs and programming approaches for the middleware design
should facilitate the balance between communication and computing. Energy awareness, routing,
efficient resource utilization and data delivery have always been the key parameters for an efficient
programming model for WSN. Motivating Scenario Fig 1. A motivating example on dust free

Is this Shakespearean tragedy Othello at the top of the rating chart, or is it just near the top? And why?
This essay intends to examine various aspects of this subject, along with critical opinion.
This play ranks near the top. The Bard s presentation of emotions, character, of good and evil actions
that are down to earth these are sometimes seen as the main reasons for the high ranking of Othello.
Louis B. Wright and Virginia A. LaMar in The Engaging Qualities of Othello maintain that the
popularity of this play has been consistent for about 400 years because

Such human wisdom can be found in Iago s initial words to sleepy Brabantio: Zounds, sir, y are
robbed! For shame, put on your gown! / Your heart is burst; you have lost half your soul. Indeed, the
disappearance of Desdemona from home would seem as such to an elderly father. Human wisdom is
obvious again and again; for example, when the senator escorts the general to the council, the duke
addresses the valiant Othello without even noticing the senator at first: I did not see you. Welcome,
gentle signior. As Othello begins his address before council, he employs much wisdom in the first two
verses: Most potent, grave, and reverend signiors, / My very noble, and approved good masters, by
being as complimentary as possible, it would seem.
Shakespeare s human wisdom no doubt comes partially from his understanding of the workings of
man s mind. He possesses the ability to analyze in a psychological manner. Harry Levin s General
Introduction to The Riverside Shakespeare includes these comments regarding the psychological
aspect of Shakespeare s characters:
During the later eighteenth and most of the nineteenth century, Shakespeare s interpreters practiced
what Bernard Shaw liked to call Bardolatry. They all but deified the Bard of Avon because he was the

Visibility And Consistency Of Social Media
Visibility and Consistency
I was facilitating a social media workshop for a writers group in Richmond, Virginia called Agile
Writers and a gentleman raised his hand. He was working on writing a book however his book wasn t
out yet. He said to me, My book is not out and I don t have anything to sell, so I m not on Facebook or
social media yet. I m waiting until my book comes out. Is that wrong? I answered his question with
my favorite quote by H. Jackson Brown, Opportunity only dances with those already on the dance
floor. You see, you must already be on the dance floor ladies and gentlemen. Opportunity is not going
to come pull you off the sideline, you have to already be there. You can do this by being visible and

You want to hang out there first and establish presence on Facebook, but the tips and strategies I will
share really apply to any of the social media sites that you re hanging out on. Number one, branding is
largely about visibility and consistency. How visible are you and how consistent are you when we see
you? You want to show up on a consistent basis on all of the social media sites that you have elected
to play in the sandbox on, okay? You can t just post one thing and then disappear for two weeks and
you don t post anything else about your business, your product or your service and then say this ain t
working. No, ladies and gentlemen, you have to put some consistency in to posting on social media.
When we say consistency, let me take Facebook for an example. If you re in promotion mode, and
there s something that you want to get attention on or you want to attract clients or supporters, you
really need to be posting one to five times a day. That s right, one to five times a day is what you need
to be doing on Facebook to help you have that consistency. It also plays a role into the visibility. You
want to be posting at different times during the day. Why? Because those that are friends followers of
yours and those that have clicked like on your business page, hang out on Facebook at different time,
so you

The Middle Passage Analysis
In The Middle Passage Documentary by Steven Spielberg, the trans Atlantic slave trade is analyzed
and broken down to reveal the true horrors endured by millions of African Americans through the four
hundred years it occurred. Step by step, it travels through the journey the slaves suffered through,
from the initial capturing to the moments they arrived in America, only to be auctioned off as no more
than lowly farm animals. The documentary shows the overall journey of the Middle Passage and the
trials involved, but the book Copper Sun by Sharon Draper portrays it in a different light. The novel
follows an enslaved African by the name of Amari through the horrors of the capture, forced
migration, and voyage to the land of the whites. Another perspective within the book is of a white girl
named Polly who is braving the hardships that come with being an indentured servant. Yet what both
the documentary and novel show are the unbreakable spirits of the ones who were forced to withstand
the barbarous actions of the people who imprisoned them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing A Streetcar Named Desire And A View From The Bridge
The plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the Bridge are both plays that focus on mainly
the theme of domination of the female characters by the males. Where A Streetcar Named Desire is a
Southern Gothic, A View from a Bridge is a tragedy that is actually similar to Williams play as they
both end tragically for the main character. Each playwright uses their own method and techniques in
order to get the message or point of view across to the audience members.
In A Streetcar Named Desire, the form of a Southern Gothic gives the readers its distinct build up of
tension in the play s scenes. Throughout the play, the structure closely follows the confrontation
between Stanley and Blanche and the tension starts to build up. As the ... Show more content on

Moreover, as Alfieri is technically the narrator, he constantly informs the audience members on what

Alfieri s emphasis on was , as a saddening case for him and the use of an external analepsis creates
suspension in the play and the audience members wonder what will happen next. This technique
creates different atmospheres to run parallel to the play s progressing plot.
In scene one, Williams considers this scene as the one of the most important scenes of the whole play
as the first scenes generally attract a significant amount of the audience members attention. Williams
also teasingly throws hints and clues about the truth of each of the main characters. The characters are
portrayed as if the play was a mystery with Stanley having suspicions about Blanche. He converses his
suspicions with Stella, trying to convince her Open your eyes [...] she got them out of a teacher s play?
Here, Williams portrays Stella as a woman with a difficulty to understand Stanley s accusations of her
sister. Moreover, following Stella s lack of understanding it is easily preferable to the layers of an
onion. Williams compares Stella to an onion as, like an onion, Stanley has to constantly *peel* the
layers of Stella s brain mentally in order for Stella to understand.
On the other hand, Alfieri is not always two sided and does

Dying Declaration Under Section 32 of Ipc
DYING DECLARATION
Truth sits on the lips of a person who is about to die
Introduction
A Dying Declaration means the statement of a person who has died explaining the circumstances of
his death. It can be said to be a statement made by a mortally injured person, indicating who has
injured them and/or the circumstances surrounding their injury. The injured is aware that he/she is
about to die and while the declaration is hearsay, it is admissible since it is believed that the dying
person does not have any reason to lie.
Such a statement can be proved when it is made by a person as to the cause of his death, or as to any
of the circumstances of the transaction which resulted in his death. The statement will be relevant in

So, they held his statement to be inadmissible under section 32.
Circumstances of the transaction which resulted in his death
The other important condition for the admissibility of a statement as a dying declaration is that it must
relate to the circumstances of the transaction which resulted in his death. This was vividly explained
by the Privy Council in the Case of Pakala Narayana Swami v. The Emperor. The facts of the case
were that the accused had borrowed Rs. 3000 from the deceased during 1936. On 20th March, 1937,
the deceased received a letter from the accused inviting him to come that day or next to Behrampur.
The deceased left his house on 21st March, 1037 in time to catch the train for Behrampur. But he did
not come back. On 23rd March, 1937, at about noon, his dead body was found in a steel trunk in a
third class compartment at Puri. The dead body was identified by the widow. The accused was tried
and convicted for murder and sentenced to death. During the trial, the widow of the deceased stated
before the Court that on that day her husband showed her a letter and said that he was going to
Behrampur as the appellant s wife had written to him and told him to go and receive payment for his
dues. This statement was objected by the appellant because it was not a statement after the

Selecting The Right Employee For The Workplace
Selecting the Right Employee for the Workplace In today s competitive healthcare industry, employers
must ensure the employees chosen to work within the organization are going to support the mission,
vision and values it sets forth. Selecting an appropriate employee can be a challenging task for Human
Resources (HR) and nurse managers and, therefore, an organization must have a reliable selection
process in place to ensure the best individual is chosen. The purpose of this paper is to outline the
employee selection process at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and how it was used to recently fill
a Nurse Clinician position. The Selection Process Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre cares for over
1.2 million patients each year and employees over 10,000 people in a wide variety of positions
(Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2015). Comprised of a long term care facility dedicated to
looking after Canada s war veterans, called the Veterans Centre (VC) and an acute care hospital,
Sunnybrook attracts and employs some of the most talented people in healthcare. Nurse managers are
responsible for determining when they need to fill a position. When a need is identified, the manager
fills out an employee request form outlining the reasons behind the request, such as retirement or
maternity leave. The nurse manager submits that form to the Director of Operations for approval.
Once approved, the nurse manager submits the form to HR to start the selection process. Sunnybrook

Masque of the Red Death DEATH, BLEEDING FROM ALL PORES. Edgar Allen Poe s Mask of the
Red Death has all of these horrible things, but it makes a great story for author s craft. Authors craft

The Portrayal Of The Theatre Of The Absurd Essay example
The Portrayal of the Theatre of the Absurd Throughout literature, much has been assumed and
gathered about the state of man and his purpose in life. Different poets, novelists, and playwrights
have employed the powerful tools of language to broadcast their respective statement to the literate
world. Many authors stand out for their overly romanticized or horribly pessimistic notations on life,
but only Samuel Beckett stands out for his portrayal of absence. As Democritus, a Greek philosopher,
noted, nothing is more real than nothing, a quote which became one of Beckett s favorites and an
inspiration for his masterful plays (Hughes 1). Beckett s works have astounded many through their
utter divergence from the typical basis of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beckett purposefully strips the setting of all elements of reality—namely time and definition. In
Waiting for Godot, his stage directions simply state, A country road. A tree. (1) Such simplicity
initially seems to muddy the clarity of the work, causing confusion as to the location and specifics of
the characters plight and conditions. However, as Daryl McDaniel constitutes, bareness of the set only
serves to create a complex fictional and highly theatrical world (McDaniel 1). As the play goes on, this
vague scenario also serves to make the work universal, due to the commonality of such elements in
nature. Similarly, although Endgame s plot plays out in a more confined and defined space, a room
with two high windows and two ashbins, the surroundings are bleak and undefined. Collectively,
Beckett s use of setting defies reality. Jean Jaques Mayoux elaborates on this point to clarify, a
realistic setting would spoil everything (Mayoux 42). Beckett s intentional bleaching of the set allows
for the perfect portrayal of the world as incomprehensible. The distortion of time serves to enhance the
incomprehensibility of Beckett s works. Not only does Beckett fail to specify a time period, the
element of time passage becomes unfathomable, implying the same about the world in which we live.

Patrice Lumumba’s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism Essay
Patrice Lumumba s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism
It is hard to believe that in 2002 there is still imperialism being practiced in the world, but the fact of
the matter is, it is. Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation s territory or power by establishing
dominance over other nations. A modern example of imperialism is the Congo.
At the 1885 Berlin Conference, where the European powers carved up most of Africa among
themselves, they sanctioned the claim of Belgian King Leopold II to sole authority over the Congo, a
land mass 75 times the area of Belgium. The Congo was virtually his private property. He wiped out
some 10 million people, around half the population, in his determination to extract every ... Show

However, Lumumba s intentions became clear from his Independence Day speech. He said,
We have known sarcasm and insults, endured blows morning, noon and night because we were
niggers ... We have seen our lands despoiled under the terms of what was supposedly the law of the
lad but which only recognised the right of the strongest. We have seen that this law was quite different
for a white than for a black: accommodating for the former, cruel and inhuman for the latter.
It is evident from this excerpt that Lumumba s Congo would not be one where the Belgians could
remain in complete control.
The imperialist powers, led by Washington together with Brussels, undertook a series of operations
designed to undermine the new Lumumba led government. Less than two weeks after Congo s
independence, the former Belgian rulers succeeded in organizing a secessionist movement in the
province of Katanga, where U.S. and European companies had vast mineral holdings. On July 11,
1960, Moise Tshombe, a wealthy businessman and leader of the UCOL party who bitterly opposed
Lumumba, declared Katanga s separation from the Congo. UCOL originally stood for the Union for
Colonization but then was later changed to the Union for the Collaboration of the Middle Classes in
Katanga due to the feverish anti colonial spirit in the Congo. Brussels sent 10,000 troops to Katanga to

My Family At Paris France
Image Analysis When I was in 6th grade my family went on a trip to Paris France. While there we
were able to explore the city and visit many well known places such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and a
royal palace called Versailles. The Versailles was originally built by a Louis XIII in 1623 as a hunting
lodge. In the years to come the building went through a few big expansions. After Louis XIII died his
son Louis XIV obtained Versailles and used it as his main residence and for the seat of the government
of the Kingdom of France. Also, the Versailles had enough rooms to be used for most of the courtiers
to stay there. My family and I were able to take a tour of the palace. While I was on the tour we came
into a room known as the Hercules Room. I walked in the room as was shocked because of a sculpture
in the middle of the room. Displayed in the middle of this room in an immaculate ancient palace was
an enormous metal sculpture of a dog shaped balloon animal. Directly above the dog was a massive
painting covering the ceiling named Apotheosis of Hercules which was the reason the room itself was
named Hercules Room. The reason I was surprised when I walked into the room was because the dog
balloon sculpture was extremely different than the ceiling above it and everything surrounding it
making it seem out of place. The Balloon Dog sculpture was created by a man named Jeff Koons in
1994. The dog is an optimistic piece, it s similar to a balloon a clown would make for a child at a

on providing quality to the aging years without draining assets in a reckless attempt to extend life.

The demographic projections in the United Sates are significant. Between 1982 and 2030 the median
age will move from 30.6 to 40.8 years and the proportion of the population over 65 will go from 11.6
to 21.1 percent (Committee on the Aging Society, 1985). Persons over 85 are the fastest growing age

Such hardships can make elderly parents feel like a burden and can lead to irritability and depression
among children caregivers. Particularly affected are daughters, who have traditionally fulfilled
caregiver roles. Adding adult caregiving to the responsibilities of a modern women can drain her of
her prime yearsî(Brakman, 1994, p.26). The responsibilities of younger generations must be factored
into aging discussions. If not through family care, they are at least affected through tax expenditures.
The key component of aging discussions is the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of elderly
individuals. In the process of extending mortality we have also extended morbidity. 39 percent of 65
75 year olds and 66 percent of over 85 year olds suffer from chronic disabilities (Committee on the
Aging Society, 1985). For many elderly, retirement years are far from golden. Physical debilitation,
embarrassing illnesses, and dementia leave many elderly frightened, lonely, and disengaged.
Disengagement theory holds that elderly should withdraw from societal responsibilities and relax in
their final years. However, this withdrawal often causes elderly to feel useless and removes
responsibilities that keep their minds sharp and bodies healthy. If modern medicine provides more
years, it is the responsibility of modern society to facilitate quality years (Callahan 1995).

The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
In the 1963 novel, The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath depicts the mental breakdown of a young woman, Esther
Greenwood, as a result of the pressures of her environment. Esther grows depressed throughout the
novel and goes crazy due the many conflicting choices she is faced with. In Esther s 1950s society, she
is expected to marry and have children. Yet, she is confronted with her many wants that conflict with
this picture of ideal femininity. As Jay Cee says, Esther wants to be everything (83), and this is
precisely where her dilemma lies. Essentially, Esther s breakdown can be attributed to her fear of
making a choice. This fear is communicated when Esther states I saw my life branching out before me
like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful
future beckoned and winked (62). Esther is torn between the want for many different futures. The
branches suggest that her choices are mutually exclusive, and she is only able to take one path. All the
figs are fat purple, communicating that all the options are equally fruitful, desirable, and attractive,
making Esther s decision extremely difficult. She describes an array of paths including motherhood
and careers, none of which she is able chose from. She states she, wanted each and every one of them,
but choosing one meant loosing all the rest (63). Unable to make a decision she starves to death (63),
and allows the futures to die. She says, the figs began to

Hate Speech Argumentative Essay
Hate speech is speech that is intended to degrade, intimidate, or inflect violence or prejudicial action
against someone based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or based on
a disability. Hate speech now includes messages of gender, sexual orientation, religious views, and
physical and mental inferiority as well.
Hate speech can be harmful when it is applied and plays a critical role in acts of violence and
discrimination against a targeted population. Another way hate speech can be harm fun is when the
harmfulness of hate speech is understood turns not so much on the ability to act violently, but the view
that such words are basically harmful to those who are targeted. This shows the pattern of abuse that is
caused when abusive speech is directed to a particular target. Hate speech becomes a hate crime in the
United States when the speech contains serious and imminent threat of violence. The violent would
need to be against a person or groups of people to commit specific criminal acts against those persons.

Next Day Poem
My Literary Analysis of Next Day by Randall Jarrell Mirror, mirror, on the WOE where did my youth,
dreams, and beauty go? To some, this may sound like just a clever play on words, sprinkled with a
dash of Disney fairy dust fantasy, but to many, this could be a heavy, real life question people ask
themselves frequently. In this poem: The author uses a female persona to examine, from a woman s
point of view, the sense of the futility of ordinary life... thinking about her life as it was as a young
woman when she was beautiful, and how it is currently, when she is aging and no longer attractive.
She cannot quite understand what happened... The poem is narrated in the present tense and follows
the thoughts of the woman through a grocery store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She starts off by reflecting on a funeral of a recently deceased friend she attended the day before.
While she stood there looking at her dead friend s body, or more precisely, her deceased friend s cold
made up face (Jarrell par. 9), she visualizes her own dead body, lying there, lifeless and cold. Then,
while thinking of her friend, she hears her friend s voice telling her how young she seems, and that she
s exceptional (Jarrell par. 9 10). She then thinks of her own life; what she has; what she s done; but
none of it makes her feel any better or exceptional in any way. Realizing even though she has what so
many would want a husband, grown children, wealth she really has nothing, for only death is awaiting
her (Kellman 1). These thoughts only make her feel worse, and even more deeply depressed. She
eventually arrives at an and even deeper and darker place, and realizes she is confused, ordinary, and
alone (Jarrell par. 10). Unfortunately, in her cluttered mind, death may be the only answer for her
seemingly hopelessness mental state and

The Treaty of Waitangi
When dealing with two vastly separate cultures from different worlds, it becomes apparent how things
can get misconstrued. Te Triti O Waitangi is the starting point of a complex piece of Aotearoa history.
This essay gives a short commentary on the context around the signing of Te Tiriti. It includes the
articles and inconsistencies between the documents. Further discussion identifies breaches of Te Tiriti
in regards to health and the consequences for Maori. Finally the potential role that Te Tiriti plays in
the health recovery for Maori concludes this dialogue. Prior to European in Aotearoa, Māori lived
successfully. Comprehensive histories, legends and ancestral links were recited daily in this oral

Breaches of Te Tiriti have had far and wide reaching implications for Māori health. Legislations
contradicting all facets of Te Tiriti led to the dissolution of Maori rights (Naumann, et al. ,1990, p.54).
These laws encroached on Māori way of knowing and being. For example, the banning of Te Reo
Māori in public, almost single handedly drove this oral culture to extinction, as the vehicle for driving
tikanga and kawa is language. Māori were punished for speaking te reo and chose to protect their
tamariki by not passing on their reo (Selby Laurie, 2005). A whole generation had passed before the
detrimental effects of those actions were comprehended. Due to assimilation Māori cultural identity
was systematically removed and replaced with western ideology (Durie, 1998).
The Constitution Act (1852) gave the right to vote based on single title, land owned communally left
Māori ineligible to vote. The Native Land Act (1862) let pakeha apply for land title, which was then
heard in court and given to Pakeha (Naumann, et al., 1990, p.55). As more land was confiscated,
economic viability for Māori became limited. This land alienation and urbanisation created poverty
that rapidly developed within Māori communities. Whanau left their turangawaiwai to work in the
city, often collecting minimal wages. This cycle forced Māori into the welfare system (Durie, 1998).

did not take into account weight, height, or body measurements. Although this form of testing is more
accurate than the websites, it is still not the most accurate way of testing body composition or body fat
percentage. Skinfold tests only measure subcutaneous fat, which is the fat that is right under the skin.
This type of fat is not the most hazardous, as it does not surround the organs. Because skinfold tests
only measure this form of fat, there is no way of really knowing what health risks may be involved
with a person s percentage of body fat. Also, if someone has extra skin from having significant weight
loss, it would throw off the percentage of body fat measured by a skinfold caliper.
I would say that the skinfold test would be better than the two websites when it comes to measuring
body fat percentage. Muscle mass, bloating, and water weight doesn t hinder the measuring of body
fat with a skinfold test like it would with basing body fat off of body measurements. A person s
measurements cannot accurately calculate their percentage of body fat. For that reason, the skinfold
test is better than the two

Austin Vs Hart
H.L.A. Hart first takes issue with John Austin first point. John Austin believed in a many species of
commands. Hart disagrees with Austin s statement completely. Hart believes that the idea that the law
consists only of directives and orders which are followed by possible punishments do not help to
explain the current legal systems. Hart finds value in the type of laws called power conferring rules.
The rules offer less threats and actually establish a framework for which citizen can understand and
define their individual rights and obligations they have. Hart also considers other types of laws. Hart
views laws that are established to identify the limitation and the powers of the judicial and legislative
branches. He argues that it is impossible to view these laws as mere orders backed by threats ... Show

Hart views primary rules as rules that require actions that will ultimately create duties and obligations.
For example, let say you go to Wal Mart and buy two hundred dollars worth of groceries, but you then
decide to walk out of the store without paying. You can reasonably expect that there is a law requiring
you to pay. In contrast, secondary rules are used to establish procedures which allow modification of
primary rules. Hart envisions a world of just primary rules, but says that without secondary rules the
world would lack true understanding of the law and ultimately would be faced with many challenges.
Hart defines three problems that can be remedied with three different types of secondary rules which
include: rules of recognition, rule of change and rule of adjudication. Of those three Hart believes that
the rule of recognition. The rule of recognition tells us basically how to establish and implement a law.
In the modern legal systems that is the most important contribution that arises from the rule of
recognition is it allows us to determine the validity of a

Analysis Of The Movie Breakfast At Tiffany s
Oscars So White a phrase that began trending on social media sites after the 2016 Academy Awards
announce their nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress, it was predominately white for a second
year in a row. The movie industry is no stranger to controversy and since its inception it s constantly
been guilty of underrepresenting ethnic people. It s evident that film is a type of mass media that has a
certifiable amount of power to influence audience s views, yet this platform constantly disregards the
need for diversity in favor of stereotypes. Movies such as Breakfast at Tiffany s (1961), Scarface
(1983), and Pan (2015) are all guilty of this. The depiction of non American characters in Hollywood
movies are constructed around racial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in one his scenes Mr. Yunioshi is awoken by the ringing of a doorbell, he immediately
stands up from his mattress on the floor only to hit his head on a lantern and stumble across his room
looking for his glasses; once he regains his balance, he opens the front door and screams at Holly
Golighty (the main character portrayed by Audrey Hepburn) in broken English (that was produced due
to his heavy Japanese accent). At face value this particular scene was supposed to add to the comedic
element of the film; however, if we take a closer look, it is evident that racial stereotypes are
embedded within the physical and behavioral aspects of the character as well as the environment. In
the aforementioned scene, Mr. Yunioshi s apartment is exceedingly stereotyped, because his mattress
on the floor signifies that (in terms of socio economic class) he s poor, while the decorations in his
apartment, such as the lanterns and various plants, are used to overly emphasize that he is Japanese.
Of course, his physical features effect his behavior because of his poor sight and slurred speech, he s
depicted as a clumsy and grumpy person. Furthermore, I acknowledge that it was normal to use
racially charged humor in this era, but it s movies like these that utilize comedy as a form of justifying
the use of whitewashing and racial stereotyping; therefore, making it difficult to overcome
stereotypes. Scarface is another classic film in which,

Abstract
Approximately four varieties of bacteria has been isolated from the ash dyke sample of four power
plants of Chhattisgarh. Total 6 isolates were found to be Pseudomonas sp, 12 isolates are Bacillus sp.,
4 are Staphylococcus sp. and 3 belongs to Archaebacteria. The strains were tested for their tolerance
against six different types of heavy metals dominant in the ash samples viz. Pb, Hg, Ni, Co, Cu, Mn.
Their maximum resistance existed upto 0.6mM/ml of the above mentioned different metals under lab
standard conditions. Six isolates are found suitable for the multiple metal resistance ability viz SM 2,
3, 4, 5, 12 and 16. These are categorized as Bacillus cereus (SM 2,3, 4, 5), Bacillus subtilis (SM 12),
Bacterium KKCSSM (SM 16) after performing 16S rDNA sequencing.
Keywords: MIC, 16S rDNA sequencing, heavy metal, ash dyke.

Analysis Of The Book Black Rage Essay
This outburst is fueled by the kind of rage that bell hooks describes in Killing Rage. hooks asserts that
for white people, black rage must always remain repressed, contained, trapped in the realm of the
unspeakable (Killing Rage 12). She critiques black psychiatrists William Grier and Price Cobbs, who
wrote the book Black Rage and described such as a sign of powerlessness. hooks argues: they did not
urge the larger culture to see black rage as something other than sickness, to see it as a potentially
healthy, potentially healing response to oppression and exploitation (Killing Rage 12). Because black
rage was seen as something that could get black bodies murdered, it was supposed to be contained and
hidden. hooks view of rage as something vital for the well being of black individuals is important in
the context of Assata s autobiography. At one point, Assata states that white people could never
understand someone becoming a Black revolutionary because they had so little to revolt against (119).
Later on, in thinking back to having grown up in a segregated south, she remarks: If i sit and add up
all the colored toilets and drinking fountains in my life and all of the back of the buses or the Jim
Crow railway cars or the places i couldn t go, it adds up to a one great ball of anger (138). Writing,
then, serves as a form of exorcism, a way to cleanse out the anger from the spirit by channeling it into
a creative outlet. The book itself encompasses black rage from

Manhattan Project History
The Manhattan Project was one, if not the most, secretive projects to take place in the history of the
United States of America. Dating back to World War II, its purpose was to create a bomb capable of
splitting atoms apart. The project was a success and resulted in one of the most devastating bombs
ever to be developed and utilized by mankind. Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, the
acting Presidents during the time, faced many factors that were involved in deciding to proceed with
developing and ultimately, dropping the bomb. August, 1939, Albert Einstein was residing in a Nazi
occupied Germany. Upon discovering that Germany was in the process of researching and developing
nuclear based weapons, he partnered with Edward Teller, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An isotope is the same atom but in a different form. The new atom would have the same number of
protons but different numbers of neutrons. Joseph Carter was the scientist who worked on the
refinement of Uranium. Uranium is used because it has the largest atoms of any other natural element.
The larger the atom is, the harder is is to stabilize. the lower the stabilization is, the easier it is for the
nucleus to split and release energy. The use of U 235 would be used in one of the two ways of
detonating a bomb which was the gun barrel way. The way this bomb works is, two pieces of U 235,
individually not large enough to sustain a chain reaction, were brought together rapidly in a gun barrel
to from a supercritical mass that exploded instantaneously. This method was never tested since

Neo-Confucianism And Ruth Research Paper
I think Ruth was a lucky woman; after her husband s death, she was still able to meet her Mr.right and
marry him. Her mother in law and other people were blessed with them. How happy a thing! If she
lived in ancient China, the outcome was very different. In traditional Chinese society, the status of
women was very low, in other words, they were even the accessories of men without any freedom. Neo
Confucianism has developed in Song Dynasty and those scholars emphasized the three obediences and
the four virtues(the three obediences obey her father before marriage, her husband when married, and

Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler was a bad man who did many bad things in his lifetime. He was responsible for the
Holocaust and for World War II. Who was Adolf Hitler? What motivated him as dictator of Germany?
What did he do in the course of his lifetime?
Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th, 1889. He was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria, of German
descent ( Hitler ). Hitler s father s original name was Schicklgruber but he changed it in 1876 to Hitler
( Adolf ). Hitler had three sisters and four brothers. His father died when he was thirteen and his
mother died when he was nineteen. Hitler was only an army corporal in World War I, but became
Germany s Chancellor 15 years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1938, Hitler along with several other European leaders, signed the Munich Agreement. This
agreement ceded the Sudetenland district to Germany, revising part of the Versailles Treaty. Because
of this diplomatic victory Hitler was named Time magazine s Man of The Year in 1938. This
diplomatic win strengthened his belief in a renewed German dominance ( Adolf ).
In 1940, Hitler increased his military activity, invading Norway, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, the
Netherlands, and Belgium. Then in July, 1940, Hitler ordered bombing raids on the United Kingdom.
His goal was invasion of the United Kingdom. Germany s formal alliance with Japan and Italy, known
as the Axis Powers, was agreed upon toward the end of September to discourage the United States
from supporting and protecting the British. This was called Operation Sea Lion. This invasion force
was defeated ( Adolf ).
Ellis 3
On June 22, 1941, Hitler violated the 1939 non aggression pact with joseph Stalin, sending a huge
army of German troops into the Soviet Union. This was called Operation Barbarossa. The attack on
Moscow was called Operation Typhoon. This attack also failed ( Adolf ).
During all of this the Holocaust was going on, more than 6,000,000 Jews were killed in concentration
camps like Auschwitz. In Hitler s mind, the murdering of millions of Jews could be done only under
the confusion of war. From the beginning he was planning a war that would engulf all of Europe.
During autumn 1941 and the

However, a focus group is only a success if the moderator creates a suitable setting for directing, recording and analysing discussions in a natural and unbiased manner. Planning, directing and recording focus groups does not create problems for researchers, but analysing information takes a great deal of time and expertise. And yet while analysing information is the most important step in focus group research, it is also where most researchers fail to deliver. The findings of a focus group are valuable only if the researcher analyses the information in a fair and unbiased manner, which is, unfortunately, not always the case. It is not unheard of for some researchers to filter out what they don t want to hear, create presentations based on what they think they have heard, or in fact, not analyse the information at all. A vast amount of information is discussed during a focus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ever since the end of prohibition in 1933 the United States government has placed the issue of minimum legal drinking age sensitively in the hands of the states, letting each decide for itself what the minimum age should be. At that time all agreed that the minimum legal drinking age should be 21, where it remained for all states until 1970.Between 1970, and 1975 a number of states played around with the idea of lowering that age to 20, 19, and ... In the time, some states established the minimum legal drinking age for alcohol at 21 years old. However, two states set a minimum legal drinking age of 21 for men and 18 for woman. In the U.S. Supreme Court Casa Craig V. borne ruled 7 2 that his age difference violence violated the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, which lowered the legal voting age from 21 to 18 years old. 30 U.S. states lowered the MLDA to 18, 19, or 20 by 1982, on 14 states still had MLDA of 21. PESTLE stands for political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental. The political factors are how much the government are involved in the economy. Economic Some economic factors are interest rates, exchange rates and inflation. At the moment the economy is in a good position and customers can have better spending power. This is because the interest rates are low and inflation is also low which means the economy is growing. Economic growth has increased which means that many more people have jobs and therefore earn more money to buy products. This is good for Rimmel as they then get more people buying their products which can lead to more profit for the company. Racism is still obvious in America. Racism can be linked directly to stereotypical mindsets of certain groups of people. Today s racism is not restricted to whites and blacks, and it has come to define many different groups and races. Pigmentation as well as physical characteristics and features still are influential for classifying people. It is easy to overlook the racism that hides below the surface and is part of American life. Today, an estimate 54 million Latinos live in the U.S. and around 43 million people speak Spanish. Although Latinos are the country s largest minority, anti Latino prejudice is still common. Very few Americans recognize, acknowledge, and respect the contributions of one of America s greatest ethnic groups Hispanics. Americans are often confused as to who Hispanics really are and what they represent in America. Although the United States is known for having a melting pot of diverse cultures, recent studies have shown the rise of discrimination against Latinos and Hispanics immigrants. Following the failed insurrection, many rebels sought refuge in the town of Swanton, Vermont not only due to its proximity to the border to Canada but also due to the fact that the town held many American supporters of the movement as well. Programming Models Of Wsn System Research Proposal Title Programming Models of WSN System: A State of the Art Survey Introduction There are a lot scenarios need different sensor nodes to collaborate and integrated on the air into networks to facilitate applications. The scaled down censoring system presented below is an example of those wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this system sensors are different between corridors area and manufacturing area, since they need different precise level. Those sensors combined together by different wireless AP and provide services to different applications inside and outside the plant. This is where virtualization shines. Virtualization creates an uniformed environment in heterogeneous sensor networks. It bridge the gap between infrastructure and applications. And the network and sensor virtualization can achieved by the middleware. Middleware hide unnecessary details and complexity of the underlying heterogeneous infrastructures, like different sensor nodes and different wireless AP in the presented scenario. Software designs and programming approaches for the middleware design should facilitate the balance between communication and computing. Energy awareness, routing, efficient resource utilization and data delivery have always been the key parameters for an efficient programming model for WSN. Motivating Scenario Fig 1. Indeed, the disappearance of Desdemona from home would seem as such to an elderly father. Human wisdom is obvious again and again; for example, when the senator escorts the general to the council, the duke addresses the valiant Othello without even noticing the senator at first: I did not see you. Welcome, gentle signior. As Othello begins his address before council, he employs much wisdom in the first two verses: Most potent, grave, and reverend signiors, / My very noble, and approved good masters, by being as complimentary as possible, it would seem. Shakespeare s human wisdom no doubt comes partially from his understanding of the workings of man s mind. He possesses the ability to analyze in a psychological manner. Harry Levin s General Introduction to The Riverside Shakespeare includes these comments regarding the psychological aspect of Shakespeare s characters: During the later eighteenth and most of the nineteenth century, Shakespeare s interpreters practiced what Bernard Shaw liked to call Bardolatry. • 22. The Middle Passage Analysis In The Middle Passage Documentary by Steven Spielberg, the trans Atlantic slave trade is analyzed and broken down to reveal the true horrors endured by millions of African Americans through the four hundred years it occurred. Step by step, it travels through the journey the slaves suffered through, from the initial capturing to the moments they arrived in America, only to be auctioned off as no more than lowly farm animals. The documentary shows the overall journey of the Middle Passage and the trials involved, but the book Copper Sun by Sharon Draper portrays it in a different light. The novel follows an enslaved African by the name of Amari through the horrors of the capture, forced migration, and voyage to the land of the whites. Another perspective within the book is of a white girl named Polly who is braving the hardships that come with being an indentured servant. The Portrayal Of The Theatre Of The Absurd Essay example The Portrayal of the Theatre of the Absurd Throughout literature, much has been assumed and gathered about the state of man and his purpose in life. Different poets, novelists, and playwrights have employed the powerful tools of language to broadcast their respective statement to the literate world. Many authors stand out for their overly romanticized or horribly pessimistic notations on life, but only Samuel Beckett stands out for his portrayal of absence. As Democritus, a Greek philosopher, noted, nothing is more real than nothing, a quote which became one of Beckett s favorites and an inspiration for his masterful plays (Hughes 1). Beckett purposefully strips the setting of all elements of reality—namely time and definition. In Waiting for Godot, his stage directions simply state, A country road. A tree. (1) Such simplicity initially seems to muddy the clarity of the work, causing confusion as to the location and specifics of the characters plight and conditions. However, as Daryl McDaniel constitutes, bareness of the set only serves to create a complex fictional and highly theatrical world (McDaniel 1). As the play goes on, this vague scenario also serves to make the work universal, due to the commonality of such elements in nature. Similarly, although Endgame s plot plays out in a more confined and defined space, a room with two high windows and two ashbins, the surroundings are bleak and undefined. Collectively, Beckett s use of setting defies reality. Jean Jaques Mayoux elaborates on this point to clarify, a realistic setting would spoil everything (Mayoux 42). Beckett s intentional bleaching of the set allows for the perfect portrayal of the world as incomprehensible. The distortion of time serves to enhance the incomprehensibility of Beckett s works. Not only does Beckett fail to specify a time period, the element of time passage becomes unfathomable, implying the same about the world in which we live. Waiting for Godot opens with the ... Patrice Lumumba’s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism Essay Patrice Lumumba s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism It is hard to believe that in 2002 there is still imperialism being practiced in the world, but the fact of the matter is, it is. Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation s territory or power by establishing dominance over other nations. A modern example of imperialism is the Congo. At the 1885 Berlin Conference, where the European powers carved up most of Africa among themselves, they sanctioned the claim of Belgian King Leopold II to sole authority over the Congo, a land mass 75 times the area of Belgium. We have seen that this law was quite different for a white than for a black: accommodating for the former, cruel and inhuman for the latter. It is evident from this excerpt that Lumumba s Congo would not be one where the Belgians could remain in complete control. The imperialist powers, led by Washington together with Brussels, undertook a series of operations designed to undermine the new Lumumba led government. Less than two weeks after Congo s independence, the former Belgian rulers succeeded in organizing a secessionist movement in the province of Katanga, where U.S. and European companies had vast mineral holdings. On July 11, 1960, Moise Tshombe, a wealthy businessman and leader of the UCOL party who bitterly opposed Lumumba, declared Katanga s separation from the Congo. The Versailles was originally built by a Louis XIII in 1623 as a hunting lodge. In the years to come the building went through a few big expansions. After Louis XIII died his son Louis XIV obtained Versailles and used it as his main residence and for the seat of the government of the Kingdom of France. Also, the Versailles had enough rooms to be used for most of the courtiers to stay there. My family and I were able to take a tour of the palace. Displayed in the middle of this room in an immaculate ancient palace was an enormous metal sculpture of a dog shaped balloon animal. Directly above the dog was a massive painting covering the ceiling named Apotheosis of Hercules which was the reason the room itself was named Hercules Room. The reason I was surprised when I walked into the room was because the dog balloon sculpture was extremely different than the ceiling above it and everything surrounding it making it seem out of place. The responsibilities of younger generations must be factored into aging discussions. If not through family care, they are at least affected through tax expenditures. The key component of aging discussions is the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of elderly individuals. In the process of extending mortality we have also extended morbidity. 39 percent of 65 75 year olds and 66 percent of over 85 year olds suffer from chronic disabilities (Committee on the Aging Society, 1985). For many elderly, retirement years are far from golden. Physical debilitation, embarrassing illnesses, and dementia leave many elderly frightened, lonely, and disengaged. Disengagement theory holds that elderly should withdraw from societal responsibilities and relax in their final years. In this poem: The author uses a female persona to examine, from a woman s point of view, the sense of the futility of ordinary life... thinking about her life as it was as a young woman when she was beautiful, and how it is currently, when she is aging and no longer attractive. Then, while thinking of her friend, she hears her friend s voice telling her how young she seems, and that she s exceptional (Jarrell par. 9 10). For example, the banning of Te Reo Māori in public, almost single handedly drove this oral culture to extinction, as the vehicle for driving tikanga and kawa is language. Māori were punished for speaking te reo and chose to protect their tamariki by not passing on their reo (Selby Laurie, 2005). Body fat percentage, if too high or too low, can cause serious health risks. It is important to know one s body fat percentage in order to avoid or eliminate those risks. Many people know that there are health risks involved with having a high body fat percentage, but there are also risks when it comes to having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had the three site measurement done. The three sites that were measured were the triceps, the thigh, and the supra iliac. This form of testing body fat percentage is different from the other two, in that it did not take into account weight, height, or body measurements. Although this form of testing is more accurate than the websites, it is still not the most accurate way of testing body composition or body fat percentage. Skinfold tests only measure subcutaneous fat, which is the fat that is right under the skin. This type of fat is not the most hazardous, as it does not surround the organs. Because skinfold tests only measure this form of fat, there is no way of really knowing what health risks may be involved with a person s percentage of body fat. Also, if someone has extra skin from having significant weight loss, it would throw off the percentage of body fat measured by a skinfold caliper. I would say that the skinfold test would be better than the two websites when it comes to measuring body fat percentage. Muscle mass, bloating, and water weight doesn t hinder the measuring of body fat with a skinfold test like it would with basing body fat off of body measurements. A person s measurements cannot accurately calculate their percentage of body fat. For that reason, the skinfold test is better than the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Austin Vs Hart H.L.A. Hart first takes issue with John Austin first point. John Austin believed in a many species of commands. Hart disagrees with Austin s statement completely. Hart believes that the idea that the law consists only of directives and orders which are followed by possible punishments do not help to explain the current legal systems. Hart finds value in the type of laws called power conferring rules. The rules offer less threats and actually establish a framework for which citizen can understand and define their individual rights and obligations they have. Hart also considers other types of laws. Hart views laws that are established to identify the limitation and the powers of the judicial and legislative branches. He argues that it is impossible to view these laws as mere orders backed by threats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hart views primary rules as rules that require actions that will ultimately create duties and obligations. For example, let say you go to Wal Mart and buy two hundred dollars worth of groceries, but you then decide to walk out of the store without paying. You can reasonably expect that there is a law requiring you to pay. In contrast, secondary rules are used to establish procedures which allow modification of primary rules. Hart envisions a world of just primary rules, but says that without secondary rules the world would lack true understanding of the law and ultimately would be faced with many challenges. Hart defines three problems that can be remedied with three different types of secondary rules which include: rules of recognition, rule of change and rule of adjudication. Of those three Hart believes that the rule of recognition. The rule of recognition tells us basically how to establish and implement a law. In the modern legal systems that is the most important contribution that arises from the rule of recognition is it allows us to determine the validity of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Analysis Of The Movie Breakfast At Tiffany s Oscars So White a phrase that began trending on social media sites after the 2016 Academy Awards announce their nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress, it was predominately white for a second year in a row. The movie industry is no stranger to controversy and since its inception it s constantly been guilty of underrepresenting ethnic people. It s evident that film is a type of mass media that has a certifiable amount of power to influence audience s views, yet this platform constantly disregards the need for diversity in favor of stereotypes. Movies such as Breakfast at Tiffany s (1961), Scarface (1983), and Pan (2015) are all guilty of this. The depiction of non American characters in Hollywood movies are constructed around racial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, in one his scenes Mr. Yunioshi is awoken by the ringing of a doorbell, he immediately stands up from his mattress on the floor only to hit his head on a lantern and stumble across his room looking for his glasses; once he regains his balance, he opens the front door and screams at Holly Golighty (the main character portrayed by Audrey Hepburn) in broken English (that was produced due to his heavy Japanese accent). At face value this particular scene was supposed to add to the comedic element of the film; however, if we take a closer look, it is evident that racial stereotypes are embedded within the physical and behavioral aspects of the character as well as the environment. In the aforementioned scene, Mr. Yunioshi s apartment is exceedingly stereotyped, because his mattress on the floor signifies that (in terms of socio economic class) he s poor, while the decorations in his apartment, such as the lanterns and various plants, are used to overly emphasize that he is Japanese. Of course, his physical features effect his behavior because of his poor sight and slurred speech, he s depicted as a clumsy and grumpy person. Furthermore, I acknowledge that it was normal to use racially charged humor in this era, but it s movies like these that utilize comedy as a form of justifying the use of whitewashing and racial stereotyping; therefore, making it difficult to overcome stereotypes. Scarface is another classic film in which, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Analysis Of The Book Black Rage Essay This outburst is fueled by the kind of rage that bell hooks describes in Killing Rage. hooks asserts that for white people, black rage must always remain repressed, contained, trapped in the realm of the unspeakable (Killing Rage 12). She critiques black psychiatrists William Grier and Price Cobbs, who wrote the book Black Rage and described such as a sign of powerlessness. hooks argues: they did not urge the larger culture to see black rage as something other than sickness, to see it as a potentially healthy, potentially healing response to oppression and exploitation (Killing Rage 12). Because black rage was seen as something that could get black bodies murdered, it was supposed to be contained and hidden. hooks view of rage as something vital for the well being of black individuals is important in the context of Assata s autobiography. At one point, Assata states that white people could never understand someone becoming a Black revolutionary because they had so little to revolt against (119). Later on, in thinking back to having grown up in a segregated south, she remarks: If i sit and add up all the colored toilets and drinking fountains in my life and all of the back of the buses or the Jim Crow railway cars or the places i couldn t go, it adds up to a one great ball of anger (138). Writing, then, serves as a form of exorcism, a way to cleanse out the anger from the spirit by channeling it into a creative outlet. The book itself encompasses black rage from ... Dating back to World War II, its purpose was to create a bomb capable of splitting atoms apart. The project was a success and resulted in one of the most devastating bombs ever to be developed and utilized by mankind. Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, the acting Presidents during the time, faced many factors that were involved in deciding to proceed with developing and ultimately, dropping the bomb. August, 1939, Albert Einstein was residing in a Nazi occupied Germany. The use of U 235 would be used in one of the two ways of detonating a bomb which was the gun barrel way.
