searched, found, and viewed several documentaries which allowed me to observe different species of
primates living in their natural habitats. I took notes of what I saw and researched information on the
species in order to fully understand the meaning of each discernable behavior.
The first documentary that I watched was diffused by KPBS San Diego and allowed me to observe a
community of Bonobos living in their natural habitat in Congo. Secondly, I watched a
BBC documentary which allowed me to observe a small community of Chimpanzees living in the
Kyambura Gorge of Uganda. I then watched a second BBC documentary which permitted me to
observe Crested Black Macaques in their natural habitat, the Tempuku Rainforest. I turned the sound
off during the first viewing of the documentaries in order to focus only the behaviors I could observe
and took notes. I then reviewed the documentaries whiles listening to the observer s comments.
During my observations, I witnessed many different primate activities such as social grooming, the
use of tools, and hunting. I was also able to identify several different primate behaviors and social
structures. Additionally, watching different species of primate allowed me to identify their similarities
and differences. Moreover, I was also able to

Abstract
This investigation is aimed to find whether there is a relationship between cognitive empathy and
primary and secondary psychopathy. A correlational design was used, in which the Levenson self
report scale Levenson (1995) and the Reading Eyes Mind Test (Baron Cohen et al., 2001) were
administered to 452 first year psychology students. Major results showed a weak, significant, negative
correlation between primary psychopathy and empathy; there was no significant relationship between
secondary psychopathy and empathy. Concluding lack of empathy potentially correlates with primary
psychopathy whereas secondary psychopathy shows no noticeable significance to empathy.
Assessing the Relationship between Cognitive Empathy and both Primary and Secondary Psychopathy
Previous studies have looked into the topic of psychopaths (e.g. Michael R. Levenson, Kent A. Kiehl
Cory M. Fitzpatrick 1995; Farah Ali Tomas Chamorro Premuzic 2010; R.A. Richell, D.G.V. Mitchell,
C. Newman, A. Leonard, S. Baron Cohen R.J.R. Blair 2003). This study specifically focuses on
cognitive empathies relationship within the types of psychopathy. Cognitive empathy, often referred to
as Theory of Mind (ToM), is conceptualised as the ability to understand and infer emotions and

How Did The Black Church Influence The Civil Rights Movement
The black church did several things for the boycott. Some of those things are it put Martin Luther
King in the spot light of the civil rights movement. The church also help educate the black people on
their own situation. Some that attended the meetings in the black church were able to shed the fear
they had held for a long period of time.
Martin Luther King Jr. was not well known at the time of the boycott. He is only 26 years old and new
the area. He was asked by the other reverends to lead the boycott. He actually wasn t sure if he should
because he was new to the area, but that was one of the reasons the other Black reverends wanted to
him to lead it.
Another reason the church was such an influence on the boycott was because black people

Religious Influence On Supreme Court Cases
Influence on Decisions of Supreme Court Justices by Their Religions Hao Meng Abstract Religious
influence on judiciary, especially when it comes to Supreme Court Justices, is a complicated issue,
and it has been controversial in U.S.. Talking about judgement for the influence, it s not all inclusive
by only dividing them into liberals and conservatives, instead, a comprehensive approach is to focus
on specific cases. Keywords Supreme Court Justice; religion; legislation; law; abortion; gay rights;
death penalty Introduction Justice is not to be taken by storm. She is to be wooed by slow advances.
Substitute statute for decision, and you shift the center of authority, but add no quota of inspired
wisdom. Benjamin N. Cardozo[1]. In the view of many citizens, Supreme Court Justices are like legal
machines, interpreting constitution to promise American people of equal justice. Throughout
American history, numerous case laws have established the pattern of judicial decisions of U.S., thus
making little room for new legislation. However, even Supreme Court Justices are human beings, who
can be influenced by various factors. It s not that simple to determine the inclination of a justice to his
or her religious belief, political philosophy and ideology. The essence of judicial process requires a
justice to vote under any circumstance based on law, precedents and most important, constitution. No
Supreme Court Justice will say that he or she has personal or political

There are various ways in which to improve general reading skills, three of the ways include extensive
reading, repeated reading and speed reading. Extensive reading can be practiced by a large quantity of
text read over a certain period of time. This allows reader to be exposed to a wide rage of vocabulary
that adds to the readers general knowledge. This new knowledge could later on aid them when reading
a different text and come across the same word only now that they are familiarised with the word,
therefore they would understand what they are reading more. By practicing this readers are increasing
reading performance thus they can take on more challenging texts. Repeated reading is when readers
read the same text several times either to themselves or aloud. This then effectively develops the
fluency of reading, as well as allows the reader to analyse the text more deeply. Speed reading courses
are created to assist in increasing the reading speed of readers. Readers learn to skim read texts to
decrease reading time but at the same time try to prevent a decrease in the comprehension of a texts

Some of the characteristics of graduate writing are the level of detail that is added to the writing, the
length of writing, and the proper use of citation and references. Graduate level writing adds more
detail to any study. Undergraduate students may write about a point with two or three topics but a
graduate student will take those two or three topics and break them down into subtopics.
Undergraduate students typically are typically advised to write a paper that consist of five hundred
words or so but a graduate student will have to write a twelve hundred to fifteen hundred word essay
on a consistent basis to ensure proper knowledge of the tasks and subjects being taught.. The use of
proper citation and references is critical for the graduate student. The use of direct quote under 40
words such as (APA, 2010, p. 5) Direct quotations must mirror the original source word for word,
even if errors are contained in the original text must be used properly. Some papers may require you to

Summary Of Le Guin s The Child And The Shadow
In 1975, fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin delivered a lecture discussing a Hans Christian Andersen
fairy tale she remembered from childhood. In this story, a man burdened by cowardice could not
gather the courage to visit the house of the pretty woman that lived across the street. His shadow; his
dark desires and guilty pleasures, wanted the man to go across the street. Yet, the man did not want to
for he was afraid, this fear caused him to tell the shadow to leave. Thus, the shadow left. The shadow
goes on to explore the house of the pretty woman, and accordingly strays unaccompanied and
unattended through the world. Years later, the man and the shadow reconnect. The man discovers that
his actions have now caused his shadow to become his master , and missing that part of himself, the
man is executed. Le Guin uses this dark tale in combination with Jungian psychology and Daoism
philosophy to illustrate that a person and their shadow must interact and coexist with each other to
survive. Without this balance, life will be impossible. Throughout The Child and the Shadow , Le
Guin makes eloquent points about the importance of a person s shadow, Carl Jung s archetypes in
relation to the shadow, and how fantasy novels help children adapt to the traumatic events of reality. In
Hans Christian Andersen s fairy tale, the man is executed. The man had rid himself of his shadow,
attempting to hide the flaws that were lurking inside. For, in the words of Le Guin, The shadow is the

Taking a Look at the Small Intestine
The small intestine is an important organ of the digestive system. It plays an important role in
digestion of food as well as assimilation of the nutrients. It is located in the central and lower part of
the abdomen, between the stomach and large intestines. When the small intestine is stretched out, it is
approximately 7 meters long, making it the largest part of the digestive tract and is approximately 2.5
3 centimeters in diameter. The small intestine should be taken care by a doctor that specializes in
gastroenterology, also known as the gastroenterologist. The small intestine is divided into three main
sections: duodenum, jejunum, and ileum (Henry Gray). The duodenum receives the processed food, or
chyme, from the stomach, bile from the liver and gallbladder, and pancreatic juice from the pancreas.
It then mixes these substances together and further breaks down the food into basic units. The jejunum
is the middle region of intestine and receives the broken down chyme from the duodenum. It is where
most of the absorption of nutrients into the circulatory and lymphatic systems takes place. The ileum
is the last region of the small intestine. It receives the nutrients that were not absorbed in the jejunum
and absorbs them before the indigestible food passes into the large intestine.
In addition to the structural divisions of the small intestines, its structures includes its wall (Henry
Gray). The outer wall of the small intestines is composed of smooth muscle tissue. The

The Family Of A Person
Every person has their own family origin, and that s what defines them. The family roots, name, and
history are the main reasons for being. It is one of the most important information about a person. The
family can help people to conclude what the type of person they are just by knowing their family
background. In fact, genetics can also elaborate how families are a big part of every person. The way
the person looks, their health, personality and many other are the genetics that people get from their
families. The family can affect a person in many ways since they are a very significant in a people s
lives. From the day a person was born, until they die, the family is what they always have. Therefore,

All in all, the main reason how a person become in that situation was because they were born that way,
and their family is the main cause of it.
Secondarily, the family can affect a person on how will they view the world, and how would they live
with it. There are certain things that we are doing just because we need to and our family tells us to.
Some of it may become our permanent responsibilities in life. Me as an example, because of my
family s high expectations I became responsible for my studies. Having good grades was not just a
thing that I just wanted; it was a responsibility for me because our family is expecting everyone to be
successful. Another is the responsibility to have the best career; my family does not take enough as an
answer because they always wanted the best or the highest. Living with an Asian family was really
tough because it was like I m always in a competition. However, in my perspective, I know that they
are doing this just for my own good. In addition, there are some family traditions that were known in
our family like celebrating family reunion annually. It became a part of us even it was not mandatory.
There are also simple things that we do because of our family, and it became a tradition even though
we are not aware of it. It was automatically built in our minds that we should live this way, and make
it our lifestyle. Overall, one reason why the family is a big part of being is because they affect people
greatly to their lifestyles

How Construction and the Built Environment can Both Benefit and Harm the Natural Environment
Since it s earliest days, the Human Race has sought to bend the natural environment to it s will; since
the first Man (or woman!) cut the first branch from a tree, a battle has been fought between mankind
and Mother Nature. Rivers have been dammed, forests cleared away and mountains levelled in our
quest to mould the environment to our needs. Our blinkered onslaught against the planet reached a
terrible peak in the middle of the last century. Since then we have begun to realise the damage that has
been done in the name of progress and civilization, alas too late. Countless species of flora and fauna

This excess of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere is due to the world s growing population burning
more fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas for energy, as well as expanding agriculture and
increasing deforestation.
The Industrial Revolution. Around 200 years ago, the Industrial Revolution ushered in an era in which
humans rely on fossil fuels to run the many machines used in industry and everyday life. The burning
of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Since the Industrial Revolution there has
been a steady increase in the production of carbon dioxide, and an increase in global population. Some
of the carbon dioxide is absorbed by trees and plants or dissolved into the oceans; these are known as
carbon sinks. Unfortunately, human activities have been producing carbon dioxide faster than it can be
absorbed naturally, while widespread forest clearance has reduced the carbon sinks.
Scientists have been measuring the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for about 40 years,
over which time the concentration has risen by about 15%. Older records of carbon dioxide, obtained
from air bubbles trapped in Antarctic ice go back 300,000 years. Scientists have found that carbon
dioxide levels now are 32% higher than before the Industrial Revolution, higher than they

Teenagers In The Breakfast Club
Teenage is an essential stage for psychological development. Different shifts in the physical,
emotional and psychological occur during this phase. The shifts are crucial indicators for the
development of a child towards adulthood. In most cases, these shifts in the psychological structure of
a teenager may bring different pressures and issues. The issues may involve peer pressure, identity
confusion, rebellion, pursuit for attention, amongst others. The Breakfast Club demonstrates the
pressures and issues that are found amongst teenagers. The issues and pressures are predominantly

the characters use are not grammatical. The language takes a deviant form. This deviant language is
mostly observable in Carl. He tries to look stylish and tough as he addresses his peers in the unique
language. Costumes that are used in this movie complement the characters effectively. The six
teenagers constantly wear casual clothes in the movie. This demonstrates their strife for identity
attainment as well as an unleashed rebellion. They also demonstrate sophistication and
fashionableness through the clothes. Allison s insecurities are hidden in her hair styles and clothes.
Her costumes demonstrate a stylish personality while she has extreme insecurities. The costumes are
vital in demonstrating character traits. Attitudes are different across the six characters in the movie.
Most teenagers take up specific attitudes according to the cherished identity. In the movie, each of the
six characters has a different attitude that differs from the rest. For example, Carl has a deliberate
choice of staying harsh, tough and dominant. This is an attitude that complements the ideal identity for

Discourse Community Research Paper
All great minds think alike, a common cliche we have all heard at some point or another, but is this
true? Well yes, some minds do think alike and, when they organize, we may call them a discourse
community. A discourse community is a specific collective that compares and converses. It is a
thought provoking group that promotes common ideas and benefits its members. Any true discourse
community can be identified by six necessary characteristics, as described by Swales. First, a
discourse community has a broadly agreed set of common public goals. Second, a discourse
community has mechanisms of intercommunication among its members. Third, a discourse
community uses its participatory mechanisms primarily to provide information and feedback. Fourth,
a discourse community utilizes and hence possesses one or more genres in the communicative
furtherance of its aims. Fifth, a discourse community has acquired some specific lexis. And finally, a
discourse community has a threshold level of members with a suitable degree of relevant content and

History Of The Periodic Table Of Elements
Leonardo Miranda Mr. Tagami Chemistry 10/24/14 History of the Periodic Table of Elements The
construction of the Periodic Table of Elements was prior to the discovery of the individual elements.
Elements such as silver, gold, tin, copper, lead and mercury have been known for centuries. In 1649,
the first scientific discovery of an element was made by Hennig Brand when he discovered
phosphorous. Prior to Brand s discovery, chemists had acquired an immense body of understanding
concerning the properties of elements and their compounds for the next 200 years. By the year 1869, a
collection of 63 elements had been revealed. As the number of known elements increased, scientists
began to notice patterns in properties and formulate classification schemes. In 1862, a French
geologist, A.E.Beguyer de Chancourtois, recorded a list of the elements on a cylinder regarding their
individual atomic weights. He was the first to identify that elemental properties reoccur every seven
elements. There has been some deviation on who deserves credit for being the father of the periodic
table, either the German Lothar Meyer or the Russian Dmitri Mendeleev. Both chemists shockingly
produced similar results during the same time period working individually. Meyer s 1864 textbook
included a shortened version of the periodic table, which contained about half of the known elements
ordered by their atomic weight and valence charges. In 1868, Meyer assembled a prolonged version of
the periodic

Environmental Pollutants, Drug And Ionizing Radiation...
Exposure to environmental pollutants, drug and ionizing radiation causes inflammation and oxidative
stress. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is one of the chlorinated hydrocarbons with wide spread use in
various industries so it is considered as an environmental toxin because of its leakage into air, water
and soil. Hepatic and renal tubular necrosis is the typical manifestation of CCl4 intoxication however;
the pathogenesis of CCl4 induced renal damage remains largely elusive [1]. CCl4 acts through
activation of phase I cytochrome P450 system especially cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) with
formation of reactive metabolites as trichloromethyl radicals (CCl3) and peroxy trichloromethyl
radicals (OOCCl3). Free radicals cause oxidative damage of membrane lipids and proteins with
subsequent impairment of kidney function [2].
Renal diseases occur as result of exposure to broad range of diverse injurious agents. Transforming
growth factor beta (TGF β) is a cytokine controls the key cellular response to injurious agents and is
the key mediator of tissue repair, inflammation, immune response and fibrosis [3].TGF β1 acts
through different signaling pathways, among them Smad pathway is the most important one. Smad
proteins act as primary mediators of inflammatory and fibrotic response [4].Carnosine (β alanyl L

African Americans After Reconstruction Essay
The predominance of racism in the United States greatly affected the progression on the reconstruction
of the nation. Effort was needed to be given in order for the black citizens to be fully accepted into
society after the war, and most of the white people in the nation were unwilling to give this effort.
White supremacy and lack of effort both majorly hindered the reconstruction of the U.S., and the
belief that black people had to work harder to get on a level ground with white people aided in the
failure of the reconstruction. The racist whites of the nation all strongly resisted all efforts to integrate
the black people into American society. Any attempts were immediately met by a negative response
from the racist people in the nation. Fredrickson states, As such, it inevitably called forth bitter
opposition from hardcore racists, who attempted to discredit racial measures (354). Despite the
measures taken by the government to integrate society, the racists took every opportunity to discredit
all efforts taken. The racist people of the United States played a major role in the failure of efforts to
reconstruct the nation after the war due to their unwillingness to accept the integration. ... Show more

Southern whites and a lot of northern whites all took upon themselves the mentality that they were
better than the blacks because of their skin color. The new case was defined as white supremacy which
in practice allowed Southern whites to reduce the freedman to an inferior caste, as they had attempted
to do by enacting the Black Codes of 1865 (Fredrickson 354 5) White people told themselves that
black people were below them in order to justify the need for separate facilities for the different races.
White supremacy helped the belief of black people being a lower species to contaminate the efforts of
radical reconstruction, and it ultimately damaged the reconstruction

Continuities In The Commerce Of The Indian Ocean
From 650 CE to 1750 CE, there were many changes and continuities in the commerce of the Indian
Ocean region. One major continuity in the commerce of the Indian Ocean was the emergence and use
of the same trade routes for both imports and exports of goods such as gold and ivory. One major
change was how the commerce of the Indian Ocean prospered economically. The commerce of the
Indian Ocean developed rapidly, and the trade incorporated places such as East Africa, the Persian
Gulf, Red Sea and India. Another major change was the increased involvement of the Europeans in the
Indian Ocean commerce shortly after discovering it.
One major continuity in the commerce of the Indian Ocean was the continued use of the same trade
routes and ports in the Indian Ocean for imports and exports. Trading ports in East Africa served as a
method of transporting goods from Africa. The goods being traded was another continuity. Gold,
ivory, and iron were constantly being exported from Africa due to their profitable values. These items
could be sold at a profit because they were scarce in Asian countries. Another continuity was the
tradition in the use of monsoon winds to help travel. The Indian Ocean trade was made easier by the
monsoon winds that circulated between Asia and the Eastern coast which reduced travel times, and
produced favorable wind currents.
However, there were also many changes in the commerce of the Indian Ocean. The commerce of the
Indian Ocean changed the eastern coast of

Collapse of Civilizations
The factors that lead to the collapse of civilizations are almost directly related to those that created it.
Archaeologists characterize collapse by a number of elements, some of which we have evidence for,
others we do not. Most archaeologists are unsure of exactly what caused the decline of most
civilizations in the ancient world, yet there are many clues to some of the events that could have
contributed. The collapse of the ancient Roman Empire, the Mesoamerican Mayan, and the Egyptian
cultures will be discussed in the following paragraphs, with a focus on the uniqueness of each.
Collapse is in quotations because its definition when applied to civilizations is often debated. Merriam
Webster s collegiate dictionary states: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They considered peasant revolt, loss of legitimacy of the rulers, lack of propaganda, abandonment of
great centers, ceasing of buildings and inscriptions, and population declination, done by a method the
Mayans are known for. Voting with one s feet is when commoners of a village, city, or town were not
happy with the king at the time so they left for other communities, no longer contributing their goods
to the community. The Mayans were a very ideological society. They had a very weak military, so they
were unable to force taxes on the people. They had to enforce ideology by building temples,
monuments and statues. When there was a king who was not liked, then they would not build temples
to support him. The ruler would have no symbols of power, which meant no authority. The city of
Copan had great monuments, which were rebuilt every twenty years. People were needed for the
labor, which was often stopped if they were displeased with the ruler. Therefore evidence for a sudden
halting of monument building gives clues to archeologists of the state of government, or society as a
whole. The Roman Empire was very powerful, diverse, and extravagant. Some Roman villas were
simple farmhouses while others were decorated with mosaics, large steam baths and luxurious gardens
(Scarre 1997:285). The city was filled with extreme architecture and monuments. Their advanced

Glycemic Index
The glycemic index is a good measure of how carbohydrate containing food affects a person s blood
glucose levels. In was originally introduced in 1981. The general rule for Glycemic index is that low
glycemic index food was digested and absorbed slowly and high glycemic index food are rapidly
digested and absorbed. These two factors result in different glycemic responses from the body (Sun, O
Reilly, Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). It is because of these reactions that many people have become
interested in seeing how the different glycemic index of food will help athletes during exercise. One of
the main ways people use the glycemic index for exercise is in their pre exercise food (Sun, O Reilly,
Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). Using the glycemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When doing this, they must result in their endurance to get them through the exercise. While, yes,
there are sports that do not necessary need a lot of endurance for, but in training most sports last long
enough that you do need some endurance. It is still beneficial to allow you to have some form of
energy to be able to use while exercising. If someone wants to be a good athlete their ability to sustain
prolonged submaximal exercise is primarily determined by fuel availability (Wong, Siu, Lok, Chen,
Morris, Lam, 2008, p. 23). The need to allow your body to be able to perform at its greatest level all
comes down to how you fuel it. When fuels with foods of a low glycemic index, it is able to store the
energy and slowly use it throughout the workout instead of being wasted in the first five minutes. It
has been shown time and time again that the offer modest post prandial insulinaemic and glycaemic
responses over high GI foods when consumed before prolonged submaximal exercise (Wong, Siu,
Lok, Chen, Morris, Lam, 2008, p. 23). This is exactly why when athletes are trying to plan what to eat
right before they are about to workout they should look for foods that have a low glycemic index. By
doing this, they are setting themselves up for having high energy for their workout and being able to
have energy that energy last longer during their

Drug Smoking And Drug Trafficking In The World
If I have another day like I did today, I m going to scream until they take me away to the funny farm
and feed me meds twenty four seven.
For ten years I ve stuffed circuit boards at the High Cats International Corporation and at noon, a
thousand federal agents, which included, the FBI, ICE, Homeland Security, and local police, raided
the place and arrested the owner of High Cats and fifty high ranking employees. According to what I
overheard the Federal agents had confiscated 800 pounds of cocaine, 400 ounces of meth, 200 ounces
of heroin, 9, 00 ounces of marijuana and a shit load of prescription pills. As well as, 560 high powered
rifles and over 600 thousand dollars, stuffed in paper bags. How was I to know that drug trafficking
and weapons smuggling were taking place, right under my nose? Needless to say, the Feds padlocked
the front door and now I m jobless
When I arrived home, I found a note from my wife informing me, she had cleaned out both the saving
and checking accounts, and ran off with a travelling salesman, twenty minutes later the bank
foreclosed on the house and right after that the repo man drove away in my truck. With no money in
my wallet, I packed a duffle bag and found a park bench down by the river and spent the night.
Sometime around sunrise I felt a tug on my foot. When I opened my eyes there stood a man about the
age of my great grandfather, who resemble Gandalf the Gray or maybe Albus Dumbledore, but not as
elegant. Thou his white hair hung down to his waist, it lacked luster, his cloak appeared tattered and
his walking stick was nothing more than a broken branch from a nearby tree.
As I jumped to my feet he says, with an air of sincerity and a hint of genteelness, Dear sir, I apologize
for startling you, but would it be an inconvenience upon you, if we share this park bench for it s the
only one that offers a hint of shade.
He had an air about him that lighten my heart, so I say, Yes, please, of course, by all means, sit Thank
you, he graciously countered as he sat down, leaned back and slightly sighs.
I sit down and offer him a firm handshake, a heartfelt smile, and say, Good morning, sir, I m Fred

Workplace Communication Essay
U01a1 Workplace Communication
On January 28, 1986, the whole country watched as the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded, killing
everyone on board. As with other major disasters in this country, you can ask any person where they
were and each one can account for that moment in time, reliving it like it was yesterday. While
everyone knows what happened, it was never made entirely clear why this tragedy happened and how
bad the breakdown in communication was behind it. Just as the memory of that disaster was fading
away, another disaster threw NASA into the spot light again, when the Space Shuttle Columbia
disintegrated upon reentry into the earth s atmosphere on February 1, 2003 (Snarski, 2007). Yet again,

I believe that if engineers were adamant about their findings and their concern for the flight, the Flight
Center would have taken them seriously and delayed the flight until the engineers could properly
study the effects of temperatures on the o rings. It seemed to be the same sort of issue with the Space
Shuttle Columbia, where the individuals involved in testing and ensuring a safe take off and landing,
with all aspects of the Space Shuttle in best possible working order were not communicating
effectively. Because there was not proper testing and incomplete information on the foam insulation,
the shuttle was pushed to launching, resulting in the disaster. I believe the single most important
aspect of both disasters was the importance of funding to the NASA program, and the appearance of
the United States to be a forerunner in Space travel. If there was not such intense pressure on NASA to
perform and maintain its advancement in the Space Program there is a high probability that the lives
that were lost on both Space Shuttles could have been saved. As for a similar instance in my
workplace, it would have to be the issues I had with one particular co worker. I was a new employee
and my preceptor was a seasoned nurse that had worked at this particular hospital for more than 20
years. Although I was new to this hospital, I was not a new nurse and was not ignorant

The Ethics Of The Enron Case
Introduction The Enron case is well known for being the largest corporate bankruptcy in American
history. Thousands of people world wide lost billions of dollars, lost life savings, and lost their jobs.
Due to the vast corruption, greed and the blatant disregard for integrity from the very top of Enron
leadership, world markets crumbled and investor confidence in corporate America was severely
damaged (Chandra, 2003.)
We will look at the accounting fraud committed by Enron executives and interested parties. We will
run their accounting tactics through the Utility Ethics test to determine if there were alternative actions
that would have been considered ethical as determined by the test.
Introduction of the Test

Under the theory, Enron power broker actions (deceptive accounting, manipulating accounting
numbers, keeping two sets of accounting books, etc.) are not the driving factors in determining good
or bad for the group. It is the outcome or by product as a result of the actions that are to be considered
(Velasquez, et al, 1989). The bottom line is: if more good than bad is the result for the most people
then the behavior will be considered as ethical.
STEP 1: Alternative actions and the Enron stakeholders affected by these actions The choices are
Course of Action (COA) 1, Enron leaders follow time tested, trusted, and ethical accounting practices
or Course of Action (COA) 2, Enron leaders put aside professional ethics for personal economic gain.
The stakeholders are many. Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, Andrew Fastow, other high level executives, board
of trustees, Enron employees, outside partnerships to include foreign countries, investors, and the
accounting firm Arthur Anderson and its thousands of employees. The stakeholders are in the tens of
thousands and maybe exceeding 100,000 thousand people.
STEP 2: COA 1 and COA 2 benefits and costs to each person or group affected. We will first consider
COA 1. Enron at one time was a great company that hired good people that believed in doing things
right, and they were known for being a model corporation. In fact in 1999 Enron was named by

Dissociative Identity Disorder
The DSM 5 defines dissociative identity disorder (DID) as the occurrence of a minimum of two
different personalities and maybe more than two. It also clarifies that the switching between the
distinct personalities can be observed by the individual who is suffering from dissociative identity
disorder or witnessed by others. (Barlow, 2014, P. 1). This disorder used to be known as multiple
personality disorder, which is more recognized and understood to people without a psychology
background. This disorder can be quite intense to including the different identities have different
names, backgrounds, and memories. Dissociative identity disorder is fairly common in clinical
residents. It is believed that dissociative identity disorder has been around for as long as human
populations have been around. The most primitive cases of an individual suffering from DID
correspond with early cases on Mesmerism. Mesmerism was also known as hypnosis or animal
magnetism. There is a reason for these two occurring together in history and that is they have an
inherent association. The main thing DID and Mesmerism share is that they both deal with the
uncovering of several modified states of consciousness that were out of the ordinary.
The early 1800s gave us the first written records that describe dissociative identity disorder in very
accurate terms, some of the terms are similar to the way we still describe them today. In 1811,

The Pros And Cons Of Poverty Trap
What drives poverty? First, how does one country consider itself living in extremely poor conditions?
This can be answered by using tools like PPP or GDP per capita to distinguish between poor and rich
countries. However, the purpose of this paper is not to discuss which country has the highest GDP, but
rather to discuss the ability the poor obtain to boost their way out of poverty. Are there certain
limitations that poor people face that refrain them from growing or is it just that the poor will always
be poor? This paper will summarize main arguments of mechanisms that give rise to poverty traps
from the article, Do Poverty Traps Exist. Based on these summaries, I will conduct further critical
reviews on some and provide evidence to back my opinion on the specific mechanism at hand.
To begin, one of the arguments first presented in the article give light to saving based poverty traps. If
one does not have enough money to save, they cannot achieve sufficient capital so in turn, their
incomes become stagnant. However, the study in the article argues that the saving rates do increase
from low levels of development. So in some cases, this poverty trap does not exist.
Secondly, the article also argues that a big push to the manufacturing sector can result in high returns
and high income levels in both the modern sector and traditional sector. While, only investing in the
traditional sector, which consists of agriculture, will only provide equalized wages at a low level

A Study On Cochlear Implants
A Cochlear Implant is an electronic device that partially restores hearing in people who have severe
hearing loss due to damage of the inner ear and who receive limited benefit from hearing aids
(http://www.cochlear.com/wps/wcm/connect/au/home/understand/hearing and hl/hl
treatments/cochlear implant). In some cases there are patients whose hearing did not adjust correctly,
having a risk of developing a virus, complications after the surgery, the benefits of sign language
without a cochlear implant and lastly children or adults with cochlear implants may not even develop
a good speech. There are many positive and negative articles I have read on cochlear implants. As a
parent you are not only putting your child at risk, you are also withdrawing them from the deaf
community, the one they were naturally born into. I do not support cochlear implants, children should
not be implanted until they are grown to the point where they can make their own choice During April
of 2013 Elizabeth Walker and Karla McGregor wanted to determine if the three aspects of the word
learning process is a complication for children with cochlear implants. Kids with CI s may have
smaller open minded and demonstrative vocabularies than their peers who are hearing. There is also
verification that children with cochlear implants show slower rates of vocabulary growth compared
with hearing children. To achieve great academic success children need to have a strong vocabulary.

The Threat Of The United States Army
While the United States Army is dedicated to promoting peace, stability and security throughout the
world, there are challenges that are necessary to address. Russia, North Korea, China, Iran, the rising
of non state actors in the Middle East, and future strategic campaigns all present issues that face the
Army. Coupled with budget sequestration, these challenges are amplified.
Russia is the largest threat facing the United States [25]. The threat from Russia specifically comes
from not only their supply of nuclear weapons and their advanced military, but their intent behind the
use of their military power. The state s recent aggression against surrounding countries shows the
attempt to reclaim international influence [25]. Their behavior in Crimea, Georgia, and Ukraine, has
prompted the global community to rethink security in Europe. [25] Russian nationalism, and a desire
to recoup their prestige from the cold war is an invitation for confrontation [25].
In Asia, North Korea continues to test nuclear weapons, and the oppressive regime is threatening to
the security in the continent, and especially to our allies in South Korea. Currently there are more than
a million service members on either side of the demilitarized zone on the Korean Peninsula [25].
Therefore vigilance and readiness are a top priority in the region. China s recent actions in their
modernization and buildup of the county s military show China s assertion of their growing economic
power. China,

The Tea Party Reform
MISSION STATEMENT: The Tea Party has a mission to reform America as a whole through
economic, social, environmental, and foreign policy changes in order to reestablish America as a
national superpower and progress it further into a better America. SOCIAL We, as Tea Party
Republicans, believe that there are two very important social dynamics that greatly need to be
reformed: care for our country s veterans and the American education system. Statistics show that
there are over 76,000 homeless veterans on any given night throughout the country, many of them
with lasting injuries, and our nation s education system does not give students the opportunity to
succeed in higher education and beyond. The brave men and women who nobly served our country ...

The federal government s control over education is too invasive. Students should not be expected to
perform as compared to a country wide standard, as each student s learning abilities are different.
Common Core testing is a poor, national standard that does not properly measure a student s
intelligence. The Tea Party believes that the Obama administration is trying to change the education
system through the back door the inventors claiming that the common core raises the education quality
when it in fact does not.Nationalized standards represent the heavy presence of the federal government
and must be put to rest. The federal funding of schools is a poor solution to solve educational
problems. One cannot simply use money as a kind of band aid, expecting higher funding to result in
better education for America s youth. The government spends an average of ten thousand dollars per
student each year, totaling $550 billion. This money is being thrown away and can be put to better use
elsewhere. Federal involvement in no way results in a better education system and must be limited. To
better our country s education system, we believe in school choice initiatives. Parents and children
should never be limited in their choice of school due to income and location. In order to provide their
child with the best education, both parents and children should feel free to choose a school that best
fits the child s educational needs. Money may be removed from federal funding to provide assistance
to struggling families that wish to send their children to private or charter schools in order to provide
their child with the right educational

I took notes of what I saw and researched information on the species in order to fully understand the meaning of each discernable behavior. The first documentary that I watched was diffused by KPBS San Diego and allowed me to observe a community of Bonobos living in their natural habitat in Congo. Secondly, I watched a BBC documentary which allowed me to observe a small community of Chimpanzees living in the Kyambura Gorge of Uganda. I then watched a second BBC documentary which permitted me to observe Crested Black Macaques in their natural habitat, the Tempuku Rainforest. I turned the sound off during the first viewing of the documentaries in order to focus only the behaviors I could observe and took notes. I then reviewed the documentaries whiles listening to the observer s comments. During my observations, I witnessed many different primate activities such as social grooming, the use of tools, and hunting. I was also able to identify several different primate behaviors and social structures. Additionally, watching different species of primate allowed me to identify their similarities and differences. Moreover, I was also able to recognize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

PSYC 121: Introduction Psychology 1 Assessing the Relationship between Cognitive Empathy and both Primary and Secondary Psychopathy A. Craig 300353012 Amanda Richardson Monday, 5:10 7:00pm, EA404A Abstract This investigation is aimed to find whether there is a relationship between cognitive empathy and primary and secondary psychopathy. A correlational design was used, in which the Levenson self report scale Levenson (1995) and the Reading Eyes Mind Test (Baron Cohen et al., 2001) were administered to 452 first year psychology students. Major results showed a weak, significant, negative correlation between primary psychopathy and empathy; there was no significant relationship between secondary psychopathy and empathy. Concluding lack of empathy potentially correlates with primary psychopathy whereas secondary psychopathy shows no noticeable significance to empathy. Assessing the Relationship between Cognitive Empathy and both Primary and Secondary Psychopathy Previous studies have looked into the topic of psychopaths (e.g. Michael R. Levenson, Kent A. Kiehl Cory M. Fitzpatrick 1995; Farah Ali Tomas Chamorro Premuzic 2010; R.A. Richell, D.G.V. Mitchell, C. Newman, A. Leonard, S. Baron Cohen R.J.R. Blair 2003). This study specifically focuses on cognitive empathies relationship within the types of psychopathy. Cognitive empathy, often referred to as Theory of Mind (ToM), is conceptualised as the ability to understand and infer emotions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Religious Influence On Supreme Court Cases Influence on Decisions of Supreme Court Justices by Their Religions Hao Meng Abstract Religious influence on judiciary, especially when it comes to Supreme Court Justices, is a complicated issue, and it has been controversial in U.S.. Talking about judgement for the influence, it s not all inclusive by only dividing them into liberals and conservatives, instead, a comprehensive approach is to focus on specific cases. Keywords Supreme Court Justice; religion; legislation; law; abortion; gay rights; death penalty Introduction Justice is not to be taken by storm. She is to be wooed by slow advances. Substitute statute for decision, and you shift the center of authority, but add no quota of inspired wisdom. Benjamin N. Cardozo[1]. In the view of many citizens, Supreme Court Justices are like legal machines, interpreting constitution to promise American people of equal justice. Throughout American history, numerous case laws have established the pattern of judicial decisions of U.S., thus making little room for new legislation. However, even Supreme Court Justices are human beings, who can be influenced by various factors. It s not that simple to determine the inclination of a justice to his or her religious belief, political philosophy and ideology. The essence of judicial process requires a justice to vote under any circumstance based on law, precedents and most important, constitution. • 9. Summary Of Le Guin s The Child And The Shadow In 1975, fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin delivered a lecture discussing a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale she remembered from childhood. In this story, a man burdened by cowardice could not gather the courage to visit the house of the pretty woman that lived across the street. His shadow; his dark desires and guilty pleasures, wanted the man to go across the street. Yet, the man did not want to for he was afraid, this fear caused him to tell the shadow to leave. Thus, the shadow left. The shadow goes on to explore the house of the pretty woman, and accordingly strays unaccompanied and unattended through the world. Years later, the man and the shadow reconnect. The man discovers that his actions have now caused his shadow to become his master , and missing that part of himself, the man is executed. Le Guin uses this dark tale in combination with Jungian psychology and Daoism philosophy to illustrate that a person and their shadow must interact and coexist with each other to survive. Without this balance, life will be impossible. Throughout The Child and the Shadow , Le Guin makes eloquent points about the importance of a person s shadow, Carl Jung s archetypes in relation to the shadow, and how fantasy novels help children adapt to the traumatic events of reality. In Hans Christian Andersen s fairy tale, the man is executed. The man had rid himself of his shadow, attempting to hide the flaws that were lurking inside. • 10. Taking a Look at the Small Intestine The small intestine is an important organ of the digestive system. It plays an important role in digestion of food as well as assimilation of the nutrients. It is located in the central and lower part of the abdomen, between the stomach and large intestines. When the small intestine is stretched out, it is approximately 7 meters long, making it the largest part of the digestive tract and is approximately 2.5 3 centimeters in diameter. The small intestine should be taken care by a doctor that specializes in gastroenterology, also known as the gastroenterologist. The small intestine is divided into three main sections: duodenum, jejunum, and ileum (Henry Gray). The duodenum receives the processed food, or chyme, from the stomach, bile from the liver and gallbladder, and pancreatic juice from the pancreas. It then mixes these substances together and further breaks down the food into basic units. The jejunum is the middle region of intestine and receives the broken down chyme from the duodenum. It is where most of the absorption of nutrients into the circulatory and lymphatic systems takes place. The ileum is the last region of the small intestine. It receives the nutrients that were not absorbed in the jejunum and absorbs them before the indigestible food passes into the large intestine. In addition to the structural divisions of the small intestines, its structures includes its wall (Henry Gray). The outer wall of the small intestines is composed of smooth muscle tissue. The ... All in all, the main reason how a person become in that situation was because they were born that way, and their family is the main cause of it. Secondarily, the family can affect a person on how will they view the world, and how would they live with it. There are certain things that we are doing just because we need to and our family tells us to. Some of it may become our permanent responsibilities in life. Me as an example, because of my family s high expectations I became responsible for my studies. Having good grades was not just a thing that I just wanted; it was a responsibility for me because our family is expecting everyone to be successful. Another is the responsibility to have the best career; my family does not take enough as an answer because they always wanted the best or the highest. Living with an Asian family was really tough because it was like I m always in a competition. However, in my perspective, I know that they are doing this just for my own good. In addition, there are some family traditions that were known in our family like celebrating family reunion annually. It became a part of us even it was not mandatory. There are also simple things that we do because of our family, and it became a tradition even though we are not aware of it. How Construction and the Built Environment can Both Benefit and Harm the Natural Environment Since it s earliest days, the Human Race has sought to bend the natural environment to it s will; since the first Man (or woman!) cut the first branch from a tree, a battle has been fought between mankind and Mother Nature. Rivers have been dammed, forests cleared away and mountains levelled in our quest to mould the environment to our needs. Since then we have begun to realise the damage that has been done in the name of progress and civilization, alas too late. Countless species of flora and fauna have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This excess of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere is due to the world s growing population burning more fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas for energy, as well as expanding agriculture and increasing deforestation. The Industrial Revolution. Around 200 years ago, the Industrial Revolution ushered in an era in which humans rely on fossil fuels to run the many machines used in industry and everyday life. The burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Since the Industrial Revolution there has been a steady increase in the production of carbon dioxide, and an increase in global population. Some of the carbon dioxide is absorbed by trees and plants or dissolved into the oceans; these are known as carbon sinks. Unfortunately, human activities have been producing carbon dioxide faster than it can be absorbed naturally, while widespread forest clearance has reduced the carbon sinks. History Of The Periodic Table Of Elements Leonardo Miranda Mr. Tagami Chemistry 10/24/14 History of the Periodic Table of Elements The construction of the Periodic Table of Elements was prior to the discovery of the individual elements. Elements such as silver, gold, tin, copper, lead and mercury have been known for centuries. In 1649, the first scientific discovery of an element was made by Hennig Brand when he discovered phosphorous. Prior to Brand s discovery, chemists had acquired an immense body of understanding concerning the properties of elements and their compounds for the next 200 years. By the year 1869, a collection of 63 elements had been revealed. As the number of known elements increased, scientists began to notice patterns in properties and formulate classification schemes. In 1862, a French geologist, A.E.Beguyer de Chancourtois, recorded a list of the elements on a cylinder regarding their individual atomic weights. He was the first to identify that elemental properties reoccur every seven elements. There has been some deviation on who deserves credit for being the father of the periodic table, either the German Lothar Meyer or the Russian Dmitri Mendeleev. Both chemists shockingly produced similar results during the same time period working individually. Meyer s 1864 textbook included a shortened version of the periodic table, which contained about half of the known elements ordered by their atomic weight and valence charges. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is one of the chlorinated hydrocarbons with wide spread use in various industries so it is considered as an environmental toxin because of its leakage into air, water and soil. Hepatic and renal tubular necrosis is the typical manifestation of CCl4 intoxication however; the pathogenesis of CCl4 induced renal damage remains largely elusive [1]. CCl4 acts through activation of phase I cytochrome P450 system especially cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) with formation of reactive metabolites as trichloromethyl radicals (CCl3) and peroxy trichloromethyl radicals (OOCCl3). Free radicals cause oxidative damage of membrane lipids and proteins with subsequent impairment of kidney function [2]. Renal diseases occur as result of exposure to broad range of diverse injurious agents. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF β) is a cytokine controls the key cellular response to injurious agents and is the key mediator of tissue repair, inflammation, immune response and fibrosis [3].TGF β1 acts through different signaling pathways, among them Smad pathway is the most important one. Effort was needed to be given in order for the black citizens to be fully accepted into society after the war, and most of the white people in the nation were unwilling to give this effort. White supremacy and lack of effort both majorly hindered the reconstruction of the U.S., and the belief that black people had to work harder to get on a level ground with white people aided in the failure of the reconstruction. The racist whites of the nation all strongly resisted all efforts to integrate the black people into American society. Any attempts were immediately met by a negative response from the racist people in the nation. Fredrickson states, As such, it inevitably called forth bitter opposition from hardcore racists, who attempted to discredit racial measures (354). Archaeologists characterize collapse by a number of elements, some of which we have evidence for, others we do not. Most archaeologists are unsure of exactly what caused the decline of most civilizations in the ancient world, yet there are many clues to some of the events that could have contributed. The collapse of the ancient Roman Empire, the Mesoamerican Mayan, and the Egyptian cultures will be discussed in the following paragraphs, with a focus on the uniqueness of each. They considered peasant revolt, loss of legitimacy of the rulers, lack of propaganda, abandonment of great centers, ceasing of buildings and inscriptions, and population declination, done by a method the Mayans are known for. Voting with one s feet is when commoners of a village, city, or town were not happy with the king at the time so they left for other communities, no longer contributing their goods to the community. The Mayans were a very ideological society. They had a very weak military, so they were unable to force taxes on the people. They had to enforce ideology by building temples, monuments and statues. When there was a king who was not liked, then they would not build temples to support him. The ruler would have no symbols of power, which meant no authority. The city of Copan had great monuments, which were rebuilt every twenty years. People were needed for the labor, which was often stopped if they were displeased with the ruler. Therefore evidence for a sudden halting of monument building gives clues to archeologists of the state of government, or society as a whole. This can be answered by using tools like PPP or GDP per capita to distinguish between poor and rich countries. However, the purpose of this paper is not to discuss which country has the highest GDP, but rather to discuss the ability the poor obtain to boost their way out of poverty. Are there certain limitations that poor people face that refrain them from growing or is it just that the poor will always be poor? This paper will summarize main arguments of mechanisms that give rise to poverty traps from the article, Do Poverty Traps Exist. Based on these summaries, I will conduct further critical reviews on some and provide evidence to back my opinion on the specific mechanism at hand. To begin, one of the arguments first presented in the article give light to saving based poverty traps. If one does not have enough money to save, they cannot achieve sufficient capital so in turn, their incomes become stagnant. However, the study in the article argues that the saving rates do increase from low levels of development. So in some cases, this poverty trap does not exist. Secondly, the article also argues that a big push to the manufacturing sector can result in high returns and high income levels in both the modern sector and traditional sector. There are many positive and negative articles I have read on cochlear implants. As a parent you are not only putting your child at risk, you are also withdrawing them from the deaf community, the one they were naturally born into. I do not support cochlear implants, children should not be implanted until they are grown to the point where they can make their own choice During April of 2013 Elizabeth Walker and Karla McGregor wanted to determine if the three aspects of the word learning process is a complication for children with cochlear implants. Kids with CI s may have smaller open minded and demonstrative vocabularies than their peers who are hearing. There is also verification that children with cochlear implants show slower rates of vocabulary growth compared with hearing children. To achieve great academic success children need to have a strong vocabulary. Children who are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Threat Of The United States Army While the United States Army is dedicated to promoting peace, stability and security throughout the world, there are challenges that are necessary to address. Russia, North Korea, China, Iran, the rising of non state actors in the Middle East, and future strategic campaigns all present issues that face the Army. Coupled with budget sequestration, these challenges are amplified. Russia is the largest threat facing the United States [25]. The threat from Russia specifically comes from not only their supply of nuclear weapons and their advanced military, but their intent behind the use of their military power. The state s recent aggression against surrounding countries shows the attempt to reclaim international influence [25]. Their behavior in Crimea, Georgia, and Ukraine, has prompted the global community to rethink security in Europe. [25] Russian nationalism, and a desire to recoup their prestige from the cold war is an invitation for confrontation [25]. In Asia, North Korea continues to test nuclear weapons, and the oppressive regime is threatening to the security in the continent, and especially to our allies in South Korea. Currently there are more than a million service members on either side of the demilitarized zone on the Korean Peninsula [25]. Therefore vigilance and readiness are a top priority in the region. China s recent actions in their modernization and buildup of the county s military show China s assertion of their growing economic power. China, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Tea Party Reform MISSION STATEMENT: The Tea Party has a mission to reform America as a whole through economic, social, environmental, and foreign policy changes in order to reestablish America as a national superpower and progress it further into a better America. SOCIAL We, as Tea Party Republicans, believe that there are two very important social dynamics that greatly need to be reformed: care for our country s veterans and the American education system. Statistics show that there are over 76,000 homeless veterans on any given night throughout the country, many of them with lasting injuries, and our nation s education system does not give students the opportunity to succeed in higher education and beyond. The brave men and women who nobly served our country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The federal government s control over education is too invasive. Students should not be expected to perform as compared to a country wide standard, as each student s learning abilities are different. Common Core testing is a poor, national standard that does not properly measure a student s intelligence. The Tea Party believes that the Obama administration is trying to change the education system through the back door the inventors claiming that the common core raises the education quality when it in fact does not.Nationalized standards represent the heavy presence of the federal government and must be put to rest. The federal funding of schools is a poor solution to solve educational problems. One cannot simply use money as a kind of band aid, expecting higher funding to result in better education for America s youth. The government spends an average of ten thousand dollars per student each year, totaling $550 billion. This money is being thrown away and can be put to better use elsewhere. Federal involvement in no way results in a better education system and must be limited. To better our country s education system, we believe in school choice initiatives. Parents and children should never be limited in their choice of school due to income and location. In order to provide their child with the best education, both parents and children should feel free to choose a school that best fits the child s educational needs. Money may be removed from federal funding to provide assistance to struggling families that wish to send their children to private or charter schools in order to provide their child with the right educational ...
