What Is The Relationship Between Friar Lawrence s Romeo...
When I was a little girl I was very afraid of thunderstorms. Where I grew up they were loud and
powerful, and they felt like the sky was going to fall down. Whenever I would cry my great
grandmother would take me onto her lap and tell me this old Bohemian story; A long time ago there
were two elephants, one white, and one black. The black elephant stood for everything good in the
world, and whenever someone helped their friend or told the truth, it grew. But the white elephant
stood for everything bad in the world, growing with all the hate, crimes, and lying. The two elephants
were locked in immortal combat, fighting because they both wanted control over the world; however
their strengths and weakness were equal, making it was impossible ... Show more content on

When Romeo and Juliet are found dead in the Capulet crypt, everyone rushes to the scene of the
crime. The Prince asks who is responsible for this tragedy, and Friar Lawrence steps forward, finally
coming to term with his part in the matter. I am the greatest, able to do least, / Yet most suspected, as
the time and place / Doth make against me of this direful murder; / And here I stand, both to impeach
and purge / Myself condemned and myself excused. (V.iii.222 226). Over the course of the play, Friar
Lawrence has been helping Romeo and Juliet. At first he believed he was helping to reunite the two
families by bringing the two together, but as things got worse, he was trying his best to protect the two
and help them be together safely. Only when the Prince calls upon Friar Lawrence to reflect on his
actions does he begin to see how much wrong he has done. Although throughout the play some parts
of his plans have gone out of his control leaving him subject to fate, he also brings about the fate of
Romeo and Juliet. In this final moment in the crypt, he realizes that their death was ultimately his
fault, that all along he was a servant to the bad king inside him instead of the

1. INTRODUCTION
[[Wikidata, and the problem]]
Wikidata is a central repository collecting structured data via collaborative online communities. It has
provided sup port for the content of Wikipedia and as well as other sites1. Like many other projects
that rely on contributions from volunteer users, Wikidata content are largely edited by vol unteers
(more than fifteen thousand active users2) from di verse locations, backgrounds and skill levels. It is
inevitable there is demand in understanding the quality and trustwor thiness of Wikidata. One thing
sets Wikidata apart from other linked open data repository is its focus on curating sourced data which
makes each statement verifiable. How ever, the reality is not only there are a large number of
statements without any references, but also there is no over all view of how good the sources are for
the statements with references.
[[Our focus]]
Our focus in this paper is to investigate the trustworthi ness of the statements by looking at how good
the exist ing sources are and explore using crowdsourcing paid mi cro tasks to curate source data for

Wasps Investigation
Scientific investigations have been done to show the effects of certain sounds on wasps. Special
equipment was used to produce sounds of different frequencies. This investigation was done inside
specially constructed glass wasp nests. Each sound was kept at the same loudness during the
investigation. Interpret the table below to learn the results of the investigations.

C. An increase in frequency, causes activity level to decrease and then increase. *
D. An increase in frequency causes activity level to increase and then decrease.
Both scientists made the prediction that if wasps were tested at a frequency of 42,000 Hz, the
following outcome would be observed.
The wasps would slowly become motionless, and they would probably not return to their normal
activity level. Which of the statements below would be the more likely explanation for this prediction?
A. Such a high frequency would be damaging to the wasps sound sensors or it would affect their
motion.*
B. Such a high frequency would cause the wasps to sleep.
C. Slowly, the wasps would become accustomed to the high frequency.
D. The wasps would have no sense of the high frequency sound.
During the experiment, the scientists also observed that the wasps generated unique sounds depending
on what activity they were doing at the time. Because of this information, the following statement was
made by a student.

The Uncommon Reader Analysis
The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett is an eye opener to many in the modern age as millennials
like myself who have dispersed of reading and have moved on to the modern age of technology. The
Uncommon Reader demonstrates how reading can attract many non readers and break certain
stereotypes toward reading. As someone who was an avid reader and has gradually left the books for
videos and social media. I hope to rediscover a connection with reading unlike the dying age of
readers in this era. Reading growing up has always fascinated me because with every book you never
know what to expect, further leading you to continue reading. Having this said, as time went on I grew
fonder of reading and started to explore many genres(fiction, nonfiction, fantasy). Books became a
world where I could escape and embody these characters who were facing many obstacles or
adventures. By reading The Uncommon Reader I surprisingly found myself reflecting the Queen, she
ultimately found herself disregarding the power of reading and soon turned out to become fond of it.
Even though the Queen led a life of royal responsibilities, through reading she gathered a new
perspective of the world. Having this said myself at a young age being only able to gather very
minimal experience from the world, reading allowed me to discover certain backgrounds that were
being conveyed from different points of view. Reading is more than just words on paper it is the idea
that one can challenge the normalities of

The Effect Of Shear Force On The Diameter Of The Rod Essay
Lab # 1 Christian Axios Submitted: October, 4 2016 By: Christian Axios Partner: Coby Bryant
Reviewed by: Connor Shoening Section: 27 I. Abstract: Over the course of the last few weeks my lab
partner and I have conducted tests on different material of metal rods. During this time, we collected
data regarding the stress and strain of the given materials and were able to come up with a report
including statements about the significance and importance of their designated yield strength. II.
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to determine the relation of affect that the shear
force has based on the diameter of the rod. In order to find the double shear stress and since the lab
procedure was based on a shear stress conducted on both sides, we were able to divide our answer by
two for the result. The second part of the lab was to find the mean modulus of rigidity based on the
two weeks of results followed by the calculation of each of the changing variables such as diameter
and material. To get the angle of twist we used the formula: (1) We used this equation along with the
force and displacement data to determine the normal stress of the rod when it was axially loaded. P is
the applied load and A is the cross sectional area of our sample. (2) This next equation was used to
find the strain. This result is calculated in order to find the ratio of the change in length to the original
length. ____ is the amount of

Gun Control In The Second Amendment
Gun control has, over the years, become a hot topic for debate. For both sides, there are many reasons
to be for or against the banning of certain guns. Even throughout our country s political history,
presidents and politicians have tried to ban or even merely control the amount or type of guns
available to the public. Two articles, Treasure the Second Amendment, But Ban Assault Rifles by
Judith Miller and A Ban on Assault Rifles Would Not Reduce Crime by Noёl Merino, address both
sides of this emotionally charged issue. Both arguments hold a strong grasp on the issue and show
their opinions in a respectful yet moving manner that gives a good foundation to leave their audiences
room to have their own thought on the subject. While both hold their own in their respective articles,
Merino gives a more factual and detached argument that shows well rounded thought and an ability to
see reprimands and consequences for the ban on assault rifles. On the other hand, Miller gives insight
into the emotional impact that the ownership of assault rifles as a common household item gives to the
fear ridden citizen. While neither article will be an end all be all for this issue, they both shed a light
on how the opposing sides view guns and the potential outcomes of either the destruction of the
assault rifle industry or allowing the industry to its own will. Whether or not the people read these
articles, gun control will be a hot button issue for years to come as the argument for and

An Unspoken Cycle That Determines The Success
When talking about inequality, it should be mentioned that there is an unspoken cycle that determines
the success of the average individual. The cycle goes as follows: education in most cases directly
affects the type of job you have. The type of job you have affects your wealth, which in turn affects
your ability to buy a house (mortgage or not) in a quality area. The quality of the area, then affects the
type of education you get. This is a cycle that while was once racist, now unintentionally constrains
people to the same socioeconomic class as the one they were born into. It just so happens that due to
the previous intentions, many African Americans are trapped in a low socioeconomic class and are
unable to advance. In fact, America today according to a few large studies, is less mobile (moving up
in socioeconomic class) than other comparable nations. One study for example found that around 42%
of American men who were brought up in the bottom fifth of American incomes, stayed there
throughout their lives. This same study found that only around 8% of American men gained access to
the top fifth from the bottom, a number lower than others like the Danes or the British ( Harder for
Americans to Rise From Lower Rungs ). Unfortunately, minorities in America are at the largest
disadvantage economically due to this cycle. From the very beginning of this cycle, specifically
African Americans were legally forced to be separated from the rest of America because of the Jim

There must exist certain words in a certain specific order that would explain all of this. I just can t ever

Kevin Smith from the fantastically made documentary The Death of Superman Lives, and Clerks,

Direct Evidence Vs Circumstantial Evidence
The solving of a crime is highly dependent on the evidence gathered by the investigative team. The
crime scene will be the place where most (but not all) evidence will be located. This evidence can
range from tiny hair which are hardly visible to the naked eye to the more conspicuous pieces of
clothing left behind by the assailant. Whatever the case, this evidence often may often have a very
short life before it either gets destroyed or is contaminated. Hence it is imperative that it be gathered
with utmost care and sincerity so that the evidence can lead to the solution of the crime.
There are many ways of classifying the evidence. For e.g. Buckles (2007) differentiates between two
types of evidence: direct evidence and circumstantial evidence. ... Show more content on

Testimonial evidence is often the most common and sometimes most controversial evidence as well.
This involves eyewitness reports about the crime. But it needs to be remembered that eyewitness
accounts are based on memories and these are often subject to distortions. Physical evidence is
objective evidence with specific physical dimensions such as size and shape. This includes
fingerprints, hair, blood stains, tyre marks, and other items. As is clear from the examples, that it may

Relationships Make Us Do Crazy Things
Love Relationships make us do crazy things. The love that lies within relationships has led many
people to do irrational, erratic, erroneous, and unstable acts. People have killed, cheated, broken
people s hearts, ruined others lives, and ruined their own. Love is a rose. At first glance, and if treated
properly, it would look beautiful and romantic. However, when you get down to the roots of it, pain
stems and hurts you deeply, as the thorns pierce your skin. If you treat it properly, cherish and nourish
it, it will continue to live on and prosper. If disregarded and not cared for correctly, it will slowly die
away over time, and you will be left with nothing. Many people have fell in love, and just as many
have fallen out of it. It happens multiple times with the same person, and it could very much happen
with multiple people. As much as it is a thing of spirit and unexplainable, there is some science behind
the history of love and what it causes. What is love, and why does it send us on an emotional
rollercoaster through life without giving you the slightest clue of when it will end? The answer is
simple, actually. Love is usually explained as magical and a thing of spirit, but science and psychology
can very well explain how love can drive us to do crazy things.
The Scarlet Letter is a story that can be used to explain love, and what it can do. The Scarlet Letter
starts off with Hester, the main character. She is on a scaffolding in front of everyone, being shunned

James Baldwin s Go Tell It On the Mountain and Alice Sebold s The Lovely Bones
In most religions, especially the Judeo Christian faith, heaven or the afterlife is a place reserved for
those who are able to somehow earn or receive an appointed place there during their life on earth. In
the Christian tradition, those who attain eternal life are able to forgo the earthly pleasures that tempt
them while they live, and form a separate entity that rejects carnality and remains obedient to God.
While recognizing themselves as inherently sinful creatures, they seek to come as close as they can to
the holiness of the divine during their life on earth, in order to reap the benefits after death. A

He would not go back into Egypt for friend, or lover, or bastard son: he would not turn his face from
God... (Baldwin 137, 138). In this passage, the main character decides that because of his newfound
faith, he cannot associate with or reach out to the unsaved friends and family in his life. Rather than
corrupt himself with their sins and their problems, he chooses to remain separate from them, rejecting
them as way to ensure his righteousness and therefore his reward in the afterlife.
In contrast, acceptance of people even through pain is prevalent in The Lovely Bones. After Susie s
murder, Abigail leaves the family and heads to California, where she remains for five years. The news
of Jack s heart attack finally summons her back to where she is needed as a wife and mother. Instead
of steeping himself in anger and grief, Jack only moves on and learns to love his wife through the
great loss she inflicted on him. When Abigail returns home to Jack s bedside in the hospital, he tells
her, I fell in love with you again while you were away (Sebold 280). Indeed, Susie herself reflects that,
His love for my mother wasn t about looking back and loving something that would never change. It
was about loving my mother for everything for her brokenness and her fleeing...and knowing yet
plumbing fearlessly the depths of her ocean eyes (280, 281). Despite the pain she has caused him, Jack

The Father of American Music because he was a child prodigy, he used his music to humanize the
slaves, and he wrote songs that were extremely popular in his life and continue to be popular 150

believed that music was not an appropriate activity for a young boy so he mainly taught himself about
music. He would spend time studying the work of famous musicians such as Bach and Mozart. He
learned how to play various musical instruments when he was very young (Krull 45). This early

Speech On Importance Of Cosmetics
Importance of cosmetics
Cosmetics have been in use since ages for reconstructing the appearance of the person wearing them.
Beauty cosmetics can build a drastic change in a person s features, as they improve the best features
and cover the blemishes. People use creams and lotions to cleanse the skin deeply. This is not possible
with water and regular soap . Deep cleansing removes other underlying pollutants and opens the skin
pores . Blocked pores lead to the formation of acne and beauty cosmetics prevent this from occurring.
At the same time, we cannot remove some blemishes so easily. Dark spots and Blemishes are very
common on most people s skin. The use of makeup, such as a better concealer can effectively cover up

The Cold Deep Sea
Cold water corals form reef structures in the cold deep sea are often defined as self sustaining biogenic
reef frameworks and can be found in any ocean around the world at different depths (Roberts, 2005;
Davies and Guinotte, 2011). Reefs are patchy distributed on the sea floor and can develop forming
impressive solid structures. These can fairly extend forming complex deep sea habitats and shaping
niches for many different marine species. These frameworks constitute thus a very specific ecosystem,
offering different types of habitats (Buhl Mortensen et al., 1995; Freiwald et al., 2004; Buhl
Mortensen et al., 2010) to different marine organisms. These reefs are thus important hotspots of
biodiversity (Roberts et al., 2006) and have a key role in the carbon cycle in the deep sea (Roberts et
al., 2006; Thiem et al., 2006).
In the North East Atlantic, Lophelia pertusa, a scleractinian cold water coral, is the dominating reef
forming species. Several symbiotic relations (among 1300 species; Roberts et al, 2006) have been
observed in different studies (Buhl Mortensen and Buhl Mortensen, 2004; Roberts, 2005) between
scleractinian cold water corals and different invertebrate organisms. However, the degree of these
relationships is still not enough defined and poorly understood (Buhl Mortensen and Buhl Mortensen,

became a state on April 30, 1812. Louisiana is 51,843 square miles. The state is divided into north and
south Louisiana, but throughout the state the culture is the same. The religion, music, people, areas,
food, and language are all very unique to Louisiana.
Within Louisiana there are several different religions. Many people from Louisiana are descendants of
Europeans and practice Catholicism (Louisiana Creole Culture). According to a study done in 2010,
the top five denominations of religion in Louisiana in this order are: Catholic, Southern Baptist, non

Anytime you go to someone s house they will fix you some kind of food. Both Creole and Cajun
cooking developed in Southern Louisiana but popular in Northern Louisiana too. According to the
article Ducote wrote, Creole cooking is city food and Cajun cooking is country food. Both styles use
fresh local food, but the preparation is different. Cajun and Creole cuisine is popular throughout to the
State of Louisiana. Cajun cooking tends to be more robust and has more spice to it. A lot of Cajuns
live off the land and use the natural resources they have in order to survive. They live in the bayou and
swamps were fish, shellfish, and wild game are all over the place. The Cajuns did not try to replicate
European dishes since they did not have access to the exotic spices and other hard to find ingredients

cooking is simple and most of the dishes can be cooked all in one pot. They had an abundance of wild
game, seafood, wild vegetables and herbs in order to make their dishes. Creole cuisine comes from
French, Spanish, African, Native American, and Caribbean influences (Louisiana Creole Culture).
Creole cooking is all about sauces and the sauces are creamy and full of favors with use of herbs and
spices. Creole food represents Louisiana s flair and imagination. Unlike the Cajuns, the Creole people
were the upper class and felt they needed to recreate European dishes in order to be happy. Creole
cooking is more complex than Cajun. Unlike Cajun cooking, Creole cooking cooks all the ingredients
separately and serves them. They were able to afford rare spices and other foods from Europe that
were not readily found in Louisiana. Creole food is always full flavored, with generous components of
butter, pepper, salt and herbs. Creole cooking uses celery, bell pepper, and onions, cooked in a roux as
a starting point for a lot of Creole dishes

Manic Episode
Regarding whether or not manic episodes can be pleasant, the book states that the episodes can make a
person feel completely fearless or angry (Comer 2015). They can experience an exceptional amount of
pleasure, more energy, needing less sleep, or increased amount of distress (Comer 2015). So, it seems
that people can experience moments of pleasure but to me it seems a little risky. I say that because the
person does not know how they will react to a manic episode (Comer 2015). For example, someone
could get an enormous amount of energy plus not feeling tired which could allow them to get many
things done in that one week or they could experience high amounts of anger and lash out on others.
Personally, I would not want to be in a situation where I would have to experience that risk, whether

communication requires clear, concise and correct information being delivered in a form which cannot
be misinterpreted or misunderstood. Through communication, we attempt to convey thoughts and
objectives to others, with the intention of achieving successful performance.
Communications can only be successfully understood when both sender and receiver comprehend the

fast pace it has become increasingly important for individuals to have good communicational skills.
For section 1 of the module I will be identifying and explaining the relevance of the effective
communication in management, this will be achieved by analyzing the relevance of the
communication cycle by understanding the key importance of using both the 5 C s of communication
and selecting the correct tone, language and level of formality for management communications. This
process will be assessed in both verbal and written communication methods.
For the second section of the module I will reflect and develop effective communications skills. I will
develop criteria and create a questionnaire to evaluate my own abilities in verbal and written
communications. Using the feedback received from my colleagues I will identify strengths and areas
which require improvement.

Analysis of the Salem Witch Trials
History generally regards the period of Salem witchcraft trials as a radical instatement of religious zeal
which favored superstition over reason and targeted a large number of women over a much smaller
number of men. Admittedly, the 1692 witchcraft crisis is a very complex historical episode, yet seeing
as the majority of the people involved were women, it can be perceived as a gender issue, and
illustrative for the definition of the role of women in New England. The present work s aim is to
outline the colonial mindset concerning women and present relevant theories by means of analyzing
three cases of witchcraft accusation together with delving into the accusers perspective.
The Puritans that comprised the colony of Salem, Massachusetts, were extremely religious, attributing
biblical meaning to all aspects of their lives and being accustomed to personify the devil (Kocić,
2010). Specifically, church elders strongly believed that their congregation was superlatively righteous
and for this reason the devil would try to target it with attacks in all forms, hence it was impressed
upon the community to be vigilant against any signs of his presence. Such signs were subject to
interpretation, yet they were generally concentrated on negative events which occurred unexplainably
in the colony, for instance in the eventuality of a crop failure, stillborn children, or serious disease of
an unknown nature. Common perception identified a witch as someone who bonded their body and

Raymond Carver What We Talk About When We Talk About Love...
In the short story What We Talk About When We Talk About Love by Raymond Carver, tells of how
two couples gather around a kitchen table drinking gin and talking about love. For some odd reason,
no one knows what love is. One character in the story, Mel says it is spiritual or absolute , trying to
perceive what it truly is. The characters talk and tell stories about their own experiences in what it
meant to them. The only problem was that no one could tell wrong from right on what love meant.
Towards the end of the story, after a couple rounds of gin, both couples sat in darkness and silence,
completely motionless as if they were stuck in a daze. This puzzles the couples for some time to
question their own love towards one another in their life. The true meaning of love is still unknown. In
order for the reader to have a proper understanding of the story, they must bear in mind that the
presence of light shows a personified attribute to love being in the room with them and to
acknowledge the dark awakening at the end of the story.
As mentioned before, Carver uses a dark ending to kind of toy with the reader s mind that the
characters knew what love is and let alone; have it towards one another. This makes the reader
question Carver s ending about the characters as to why they are sitting in complete silence and
motionless. While reading the story the reader can see that the characters are intoxicated, discussing
love as if they couldn t tell who or what it is. For

The Paschal Mystery In Beyond Belief
There are many tragic things that occurred on September 11, 2001, especially to those who lost a
loved one due to the attacks. There are also many lessons to be learned from this day. The attacks
could have led to hatred in everyones hearts towards the people of Afghanistan, but to two women,
they learned to love beyond belief. One of the ideas we can take away from these women is the
Paschal Mystery. Jesus Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension. God sends Jesus to be the
ultimate receiver of Gods message because only Jesus can truly show the message by being human.
The elements of the Paschal Mystery help us to realize that there is something after death. We can also

Theory Comparison Questions
1. Use another theory, besides Jung s, to explain Mark s career choice.
For the purpose of this question, I will be using the theories of Sigmund Freud. As such, Freud would
delve into and further elaborate the influence of Mark s childhood. Freud would view Mark s
childhood experiences of playing superhero games to explain his behavior later in life. In conclusion,
Freud would believe that these experiences meant Mark was likely already predestined to obtain a
career such as being a firefighter.
2. How could environmental factors, such as reinforcements and punishment, explain Mark s career
choice? What are some reinforcements that encourage this behavior? How is the focus of this
explanation different than that of Jung s theory in explaining Mark s career choice?
In the form of the multiple thank you s! and the continuous praise he receives as a firefighter, Mark s
behavior of acting like a superhero is reinforced. These beliefs of his awaken his unconscious belief

Global Warming And Its Effects Essay
Global warming is directly causing the rise in temperature of the Earth. The melting of the polar ice
caps causes some of the most pressing issues including the endangerment of species indigenous to this
region and the rise of ocean levels.
Global Warming
Global warming is the steady rise of temperature of the Earth s surface. What exactly causes global
warming? Numerous sources fuel global warming, such as deforestation, permafrost, and even
sunspots. Obviously, many factors contribute to this cause, but something called the greenhouse effect
is believed to be the leading component. The sun s rays pass through our atmosphere and warm the
surface of the Earth, and then the heat from these rays reflect back towards space. A majority of the
radiating heat is absorbed by the greenhouse gases, hence the term greenhouse effect, and projected in
a random direction thus heating the Earth s surface even more. The temperature of our planet is
gradually rising because of the burning of fossil fuels which releases carbon dioxide gas into the air.
(1) (US Environmental Protection Agency. Global Emissions by Gas.)

dioxide into the air. Over the last century, the growth of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has resulted

Both Bankruptcy and debt settlement have costs that should be considered.
Debt Settlement What with coming up with the agreed upon amounts, interest continuing to
accumulate, and associated fees, this option is by far the most costly. However, these costs can
sometimes be paid for over a set amount of time, reducing the overall burden.
Bankruptcy This option removes a good portion of debt entirely, with a few exceptions, such as
student loans and mortgages. However, the filing and attorney fees can be high and are often required
during the process.
Which option is right for you will be determined by your current financial situation. For those who
experienced a temporary reduction in income, but have since returned to near normal income may find
that debt settlement is the right way to go. However, those who are in financial trouble, where

their family. However, single parents that make the choice of going to back to school to better
themselves go through a lot of issues or self neglect. Because of the self neglect and the overbearing
weight of handling everyday life and college life, researchers have found out that between finances,

More Vs Kierkegaard Essay
What are the true motivations behind people s actions? This is a question asked by philosophers for
years. To understand why people, do the things they do, you have to dig deeper into their belief
systems. Thomas More and Soren Kierkegaard differ in many of their views. The major differing
opinion is their views on human nature: why people do the things they do. Kierkegaard believes that
humans act because of faith in God. Thomas More says that humans do what they do for the
community as a whole. Their views on moral and divine law, individualism, and in punishment of
citizens oppose throughout both texts.
The treatment of moral and divine law is contrasted between the two texts. In More s, Utopia, moral
law and divine law are synonymous. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In More s, Utopia, there is minimal punishment because of the lack of freedom. More says; Instead of
inflicting these horrible punishments, it would be far more to the point to provide everyone with some
means of livelihood, so that nobody s under the frightful necessity of becoming first a thief and then a
corpse (More). There is hardly anything to punish for, citizens do not have enough freedom or urge to
break laws. When punishment is necessary, it is done by the government. In Fear and Trembling,
punishment is different. Kierkegaard believes that if humans looked at what could happen before
acting they would not act; If anyone on the verge of action should judge himself according to the
outcome, he would never begin. Even though the result may gladden the whole world, that cannot help
the hero; for he knows the result only when the whole thing is over, and that is not how he became a
hero, but by virtue of the fact that he began (Kierkegaard). If Abraham was not willing to sacrifice
Isaac he would not have been punished by the world, he would have been punished by God. In
Kierkegaard s society, humans get guilt and conviction from God, not government like More s

The Television Show South Park
The difference between the intended meaning of media texts and what the audience actually perceives
can be shockingly different. Producers of media can do everything possible to force audiences to
experience their work in the way they want them to, but in the end they still take away many different
meanings even within the same audience. Stuart Hall outlines this in his encoding and decoding
model. One of the most apparent examples of this is the television show South Park. The television
show South Park is a media text with the producers preferred meaning of being decoded as joke or as
being satire, but many audience members take an oppositional stance of taking it seriously. This is
clear from the examples of controversy when South Park aired episodes focused on Scientology, red
headed people, and Islam. Through these examples it is demonstrated that the producers of media have
less power compared to the audience in determining the meaning of media. In Hall s encoding and
decoding model he argues that encoding and decoding the meaning of media is not a single sided
process but one shared by both the producers and the audience. The producers encode their preferred
meaning into the media using frameworks of knowledge, relations of production, and technical
infrastructure (Hall, 1997). Frameworks of knowledge are the producers beliefs and what they assume
about the audience s beliefs. Relations of production are the needs of the financial side of the industry.

Whenever I would cry my great grandmother would take me onto her lap and tell me this old Bohemian story; A long time ago there were two elephants, one white, and one black. The black elephant stood for everything good in the world, and whenever someone helped their friend or told the truth, it grew. The Uncommon Reader Analysis The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett is an eye opener to many in the modern age as millennials like myself who have dispersed of reading and have moved on to the modern age of technology. The Uncommon Reader demonstrates how reading can attract many non readers and break certain stereotypes toward reading. As someone who was an avid reader and has gradually left the books for videos and social media. I hope to rediscover a connection with reading unlike the dying age of readers in this era. Reading growing up has always fascinated me because with every book you never know what to expect, further leading you to continue reading. Having this said, as time went on I grew fonder of reading and started to explore many genres(fiction, nonfiction, fantasy). Books became a world where I could escape and embody these characters who were facing many obstacles or adventures. By reading The Uncommon Reader I surprisingly found myself reflecting the Queen, she ultimately found herself disregarding the power of reading and soon turned out to become fond of it. Even though the Queen led a life of royal responsibilities, through reading she gathered a new perspective of the world. The Effect Of Shear Force On The Diameter Of The Rod Essay Lab # 1 Christian Axios Submitted: October, 4 2016 By: Christian Axios Partner: Coby Bryant Reviewed by: Connor Shoening Section: 27 I. Abstract: Over the course of the last few weeks my lab partner and I have conducted tests on different material of metal rods. During this time, we collected data regarding the stress and strain of the given materials and were able to come up with a report including statements about the significance and importance of their designated yield strength. II. Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to determine the relation of affect that the shear force has based on the diameter of the rod. In order to find the double shear stress and since the lab procedure was based on a shear stress conducted on both sides, we were able to divide our answer by two for the result. The second part of the lab was to find the mean modulus of rigidity based on the two weeks of results followed by the calculation of each of the changing variables such as diameter and material. To get the angle of twist we used the formula: (1) We used this equation along with the force and displacement data to determine the normal stress of the rod when it was axially loaded. P is the applied load and A is the cross sectional area of our sample. (2) This next equation was used to find the strain. This result is calculated in order to find the ratio of the change in length to the original length. ____ is the amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even throughout our country s political history, presidents and politicians have tried to ban or even merely control the amount or type of guns available to the public. Two articles, Treasure the Second Amendment, But Ban Assault Rifles by Judith Miller and A Ban on Assault Rifles Would Not Reduce Crime by Noёl Merino, address both sides of this emotionally charged issue. Both arguments hold a strong grasp on the issue and show their opinions in a respectful yet moving manner that gives a good foundation to leave their audiences room to have their own thought on the subject. While both hold their own in their respective articles, Merino gives a more factual and detached argument that shows well rounded thought and an ability to see reprimands and consequences for the ban on assault rifles. On the other hand, Miller gives insight into the emotional impact that the ownership of assault rifles as a common household item gives to the fear ridden citizen. While neither article will be an end all be all for this issue, they both shed a light on how the opposing sides view guns and the potential outcomes of either the destruction of the assault rifle industry or allowing the industry to its own will. The cycle goes as follows: education in most cases directly affects the type of job you have. The type of job you have affects your wealth, which in turn affects your ability to buy a house (mortgage or not) in a quality area. The quality of the area, then affects the type of education you get. This is a cycle that while was once racist, now unintentionally constrains people to the same socioeconomic class as the one they were born into. It just so happens that due to the previous intentions, many African Americans are trapped in a low socioeconomic class and are unable to advance. In fact, America today according to a few large studies, is less mobile (moving up in socioeconomic class) than other comparable nations. One study for example found that around 42% of American men who were brought up in the bottom fifth of American incomes, stayed there throughout their lives. This same study found that only around 8% of American men gained access to the top fifth from the bottom, a number lower than others like the Danes or the British ( Harder for Americans to Rise From Lower Rungs ). However, when you get down to the roots of it, pain stems and hurts you deeply, as the thorns pierce your skin. The Cold Deep Sea Cold water corals form reef structures in the cold deep sea are often defined as self sustaining biogenic reef frameworks and can be found in any ocean around the world at different depths (Roberts, 2005; Davies and Guinotte, 2011). Reefs are patchy distributed on the sea floor and can develop forming impressive solid structures. These can fairly extend forming complex deep sea habitats and shaping niches for many different marine species. These frameworks constitute thus a very specific ecosystem, offering different types of habitats (Buhl Mortensen et al., 1995; Freiwald et al., 2004; Buhl Mortensen et al., 2010) to different marine organisms. These reefs are thus important hotspots of biodiversity (Roberts et al., 2006) and have a key role in the carbon cycle in the deep sea (Roberts et al., 2006; Thiem et al., 2006). In the North East Atlantic, Lophelia pertusa, a scleractinian cold water coral, is the dominating reef forming species. So, it seems that people can experience moments of pleasure but to me it seems a little risky. I say that because the person does not know how they will react to a manic episode (Comer 2015). For example, someone could get an enormous amount of energy plus not feeling tired which could allow them to get many things done in that one week or they could experience high amounts of anger and lash out on others. Analysis of the Salem Witch Trials History generally regards the period of Salem witchcraft trials as a radical instatement of religious zeal which favored superstition over reason and targeted a large number of women over a much smaller number of men. Admittedly, the 1692 witchcraft crisis is a very complex historical episode, yet seeing as the majority of the people involved were women, it can be perceived as a gender issue, and illustrative for the definition of the role of women in New England. The present work s aim is to outline the colonial mindset concerning women and present relevant theories by means of analyzing three cases of witchcraft accusation together with delving into the accusers perspective. The Puritans that comprised the colony of Salem, Massachusetts, were extremely religious, attributing biblical meaning to all aspects of their lives and being accustomed to personify the devil (Kocić, 2010). Specifically, church elders strongly believed that their congregation was superlatively righteous and for this reason the devil would try to target it with attacks in all forms, hence it was impressed upon the community to be vigilant against any signs of his presence. Such signs were subject to interpretation, yet they were generally concentrated on negative events which occurred unexplainably in the colony, for instance in the eventuality of a crop failure, stillborn children, or serious disease of an unknown nature. In the short story What We Talk About When We Talk About Love by Raymond Carver, tells of how two couples gather around a kitchen table drinking gin and talking about love. For some odd reason, no one knows what love is. One character in the story, Mel says it is spiritual or absolute , trying to perceive what it truly is. The characters talk and tell stories about their own experiences in what it meant to them. The only problem was that no one could tell wrong from right on what love meant. Towards the end of the story, after a couple rounds of gin, both couples sat in darkness and silence, completely motionless as if they were stuck in a daze. This puzzles the couples for some time to question their own love towards one another in their life. The true meaning of love is still unknown. In order for the reader to have a proper understanding of the story, they must bear in mind that the presence of light shows a personified attribute to love being in the room with them and to acknowledge the dark awakening at the end of the story. As mentioned before, Carver uses a dark ending to kind of toy with the reader s mind that the characters knew what love is and let alone; have it towards one another. This makes the reader question Carver s ending about the characters as to why they are sitting in complete silence and motionless. While reading the story the reader can see that the characters are intoxicated, discussing love as if they couldn t tell who or what it is. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The melting of the polar ice caps causes some of the most pressing issues including the endangerment of species indigenous to this region and the rise of ocean levels. Global Warming Global warming is the steady rise of temperature of the Earth s surface. What exactly causes global warming? Numerous sources fuel global warming, such as deforestation, permafrost, and even sunspots. Obviously, many factors contribute to this cause, but something called the greenhouse effect is believed to be the leading component. The sun s rays pass through our atmosphere and warm the surface of the Earth, and then the heat from these rays reflect back towards space. A majority of the radiating heat is absorbed by the greenhouse gases, hence the term greenhouse effect, and projected in a random direction thus heating the Earth s surface even more. The major differing opinion is their views on human nature: why people do the things they do. Kierkegaard believes that humans act because of faith in God. Thomas More says that humans do what they do for the community as a whole. Their views on moral and divine law, individualism, and in punishment of citizens oppose throughout both texts. Kierkegaard believes that if humans looked at what could happen before acting they would not act; If anyone on the verge of action should judge himself according to the outcome, he would never begin. Even though the result may gladden the whole world, that cannot help the hero; for he knows the result only when the whole thing is over, and that is not how he became a hero, but by virtue of the fact that he began (Kierkegaard).
