Greek Root Astr
Over 60% of the words in the English language contain a Greek or Latin root ( Online English
Dictionary ). This quantitative figure conveys the importance of Greek and Latin on the development
of the words in the English language. One commonly used root, astr, has origins in the Greek language
( Alphabetical Index ). Many words that use the root astr in them relate to stars or space. The root astr,
meaning star, comes from the Greek language, and it !is! used in words such as astrolabe, astronomy,
and astronaut (Harper). The genesis of the root astr occurred early in the Greek language (
Alphabetical Index ). Greek, an Indo European language, began in the 14th century BC. The Greek
language went through many changes following its creation and had many important phases. The first
phase, known as the Ancient phase, !was! subdivided into an Archaic period, a Classical period, and a
Hellenistic period. The Roman, Byzantine, and Modern phases followed the Ancient phase. Greek also
had many various dialects which differed in many ways, but !were! mutually intelligible. During the
Greek language s evolution through time, the Greeks adopted the Phoenician alphabet for their own
use. (Newton) The root astr ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

astronaut comes from the Greek roots astron, meaning star, and nautes, meaning ship or sailor. Not
until the space race in the 1960s !was! it popularized and became a common word in many Americans
vocabularies. The word astronaut !was! used by the United States Space Program as the counterpart of
the United Soviet Socialist Republics word cosmonaut, coming from the Greek roots cosmos and

Strategies for Competing in a Changed China
Strategies for Competing in a Changed China
Magazine: Summer 2004Research Feature July 15, 2004 Peter Williamson and Ming Zeng
This paper presents the results of the authors detailed research into competition between
multinationals and local Chinese companies in 10 industries over the past five years. They conclude
that local companies are now threatening multinationals plans to conquer the China market. They
analyse this new competitive game in terms of a dynamic battle of competencies. Multinationals start
off with better industry specific technology and know how, and a higher level of competence in key
functions like marketing and financial management. Chinese companies enjoy a better understanding

Our research over the past five years into the battles between multinationals and local Chinese
companies reveals that while market dominance by local champions is far from universal, it s
becoming ever more frequent. In industries as different as beer brewing, mobile phone manufacturing
and laundry detergent production, Chinese companies often seeming to appear from nowhere are
forcing multinationals to rethink their strategies and their hopes for explosive growth in the China
market.
1
The message is clear: Multinationals must factor in the existence of robust local competition, while
considering the new opportunities that have opened up as a result of China s WTO membership. To
understand the way competition between multinationals and local champions is evolving and to
pinpoint the keys to success, we traced the evolution of competition in China in 10 industries over the
last 10 years.2 We conducted more than 100 interviews with dozens of leading companies operating in
China, both multinationals and locals, and reviewed thousands of pages of secondary data. The picture
of competition that emerged from our research can best be described not in terms of traditional market
positioning, but as a battle of competencies between multinationals and local players.
Constraints on Multinationals Multinationals generally start off with clear advantages in two areas:

Great Depression In Canada Essay
The Great Depression was a devastating predicament, with consequences affecting counties all around
the world. North America was a region that was hit particularly hard during this time in history. Many
people were left unemployed, hungry and often homeless. Losses of jobs, savings and declines in the
economy were widespread, stretching from one coast of the nation to the other. With an
unemployment rate at the time of 26.6%, majority of the population was forced onto relief, for
example, in Saskatchewan, losses forced 66% of the rural population onto relief (Struthers, 2013,
November 7a). The era experienced the lowest population growth in Canada since the 1880 s, with the
number of immigrants dropping from 169,000 to 12,000 within 5 years, ... Show more content on

With such a dark cloud over the nation, forms of entertainment were becoming increasingly popular to
lighten the sullen mood of the citizens. This time in the era is known as the Golden age of Radio

movies started to become increasingly popular due to advancements in in sound and color for movies

actresses, watching, acting in and producing films. The upbeat, loud, almost funky swing and big band
music was a large part of the culture, calling for a various number of new dances and musical
activities. During the burden of the time, sports in Canada seemed to almost contradict the
expectations and excel. With many victories for Canadian teams, such as the Maple Leafs Stanley Cup

U.s. Counterintelligence And Covert Operations
U.S. Counterintelligence and Covert Operations
Counterintelligence (CI) involves actions aimed at protecting the United States against foreign
intelligence operations and espionage from penetration and disruption by hostile nations or their
intelligence services (Lowenthal, 2014). Three main components of Counterintelligence include
collection, defensive and offensive. Collection is ability to gather intelligence information about
rivalry capabilities against own nation; defensive part of CI involve measures to prevent and thwarting
other nations attempts to penetration into own nations intelligence system; while offensive deal with
running double agents to penetrate, manipulate, exploit, and control targeted adversaries. CI is said to
be the most essential aspect of the intelligence disciplines, in the sense that collecting vast quantities
of secret information and produce excellent analysis of the intelligence, but ineffective
counterintelligence measures may diminish confidence the final results (Van Cleave, 2013). According
to Federal Bureau of Investigation (2011) Significant advances have been made in clarifying and
rectifying intelligence gaps and requirements through the formation of liaison and working
relationships with other U.S. intelligence community agencies, foreign partners, the private sector, and
academia . For instance, since 2001, FBI CI program has resulted to total arrests of 249, of which 46
of them were linked to espionage. Counterintelligence (CI)

Iroquois Confederate Compare And Contrast
The Beaver Wars were fought from 1640 1701, this war was also called the French and Iroquois Wars.
The war was fought between the Iroquois Confederacy and the French and their Native allies from the
Huron and Algonquin tribes who were from the central Great Lakes area (Ohio Valley). The Iroquois
Confederacy consisted of Native Americans from five different tribes Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga,
Cayuga and Seneca people who were from the eastern part of Great Lakes (New York state). The
Mohawk tribe began to establish trading agreements with the Dutch exchanging beaver pelts for guns,
however the Mohawks also wanted to expand their territory expanding their market in the Great Lakes

The fighting from this war caused the Hurons, Eries and Susquehannocks tribes from Great Lakes to
be destroyed because of greed and colonialism. If the Dutch and English had not armed and motivated
the Iroquois Confederacy and the French, the same for their allies, those tribes would not have been
annihilated so quickly over beaver pelt and land. In the early 17th century colonies were already
established in North America and Natives of the Great Lakes were already creating animal pelts. The
animal pelts for Europeans were a symbol of an excess of wealth, a major problem was the scarcity of
these pelts in Europe due to overhunting. There is nothing like showing off to your friends and family
with the fur of dead animals from the colonies, but the high cost of the pelts came from the amount of
exchanges and traveling that needed to take place to acquire these pelts. According to Robert Millward

My Father Was a Paradox Essay
I ll miss my father, I already miss him, greatly... I ll miss his stories, his laughter, the fire of his
opinions, and especially the quiet strength of him. Yet, I think it s one of the truths of the world that
the people we miss the most are also the ones that we can t miss, because we carry so much of them
with us.
My father was something of a paradox. On the one hand he stands out in my mind for his stories, his
wit, and the fire of his opinions. Anyone who s argued with him, and that s quite a few of us, knew
that he had strong opinions and argued them with zeal. On the other hand, at the same time, he was a
quiet man, who kept a lot of what he felt on the inside, someone who taught more by example than by
lecture.

I ll never, in this life at least, be able to go to him for any more answers, but as long as I live, I ll do
what he taught me... ask the questions, think, and find my own answers. And in my heart and in my
memory, he ll be there by example, guiding me. And with him will be his stories. He was full of
stories. There was nothing he didn t have a story or a joke for. And he was always such a wonderful
subject for stories.
I cannot forget his tale about sneaking into the doctor s office with his friend so they could memorize
the eye chart and pass the medical exam to join the Navy. Stories that end with a father looking down
at a little boy, dazed, scared and bruised and saying simply, Don t do that. You could hurt yourself.
Stories about the man who unscrewed the table leg that came between him and the pretty woman

1) Update Timer indicates how regularly the router will send out a routing table update.
2) Invalid Timer indicates how long a route will remain in a routing table before being marked as
invalid, if no new updates are heard about this route. The invalid timer will be reset if an update is
received for that fussy route before the timer expires. A route marked as invalid is not immediately
removed from the routing table. Instead, the route is marked with a metric of 16, indicating it is
unreachable, and placed in a hold down state.

Do not leave gates open or mess with livestock. Leave everything as it was or how the farmer tells you
to leave it. When you are hunting deer with a firearm or your just in the woods during firearm season
you must wear blaze orange . Deer hunters can only harvest two bucks a year and as many does they
want as long as they have tags. If the buck has antlers three inches or less you can stick a doe tag on it
(Dnr.Illinois.gov). In some rare occasions does can have antlers and if harvested one must put a buck
tag on the deer, if its antlers are bigger than three inches. Albino deer cannot be shot, but pieball deer
can. In Illinois you can use a pistol, muzzleloader, shotgun, bow or crossbow to take down a whitetail.
All of them have certain calibers and weight that are legal to shoot a deer with. A pistol needs to be at
least a .38 caliber. A shotgun can t be smaller than a 20 gauge and use a slug. An archer must be
pulling a weight of forty pounds at least to shoot a deer. There is no deer rifle hunting in Illinois. A
hunter should be a certain distance away from a road or a highway (Dnr.Illinois.gov). Another way to
learn is to go hunting with a avid hunter or outdoorsman that s had experience. Hunting safety in

Corruption In True Detective By Nic Pizzolatto
The first season of HBO s True Detective, written by Nic Pizzolatto, revolved around two contrasting
Louisiana detectives that had to solve a string of satanic cult murders. This psychological thriller
incorporates many dark symbols and philosophical questions to create an intriguing plot line. At the
root of the show is the very frightening reality of corruption within the world. The corruption stems
from various branches of social culture and also government. Specifically, the corruption comes from
the media, the church, and also politicians which blankets almost every aspect of a person s life. This

Dumbledore is currently three percentage points behind in the polls. Therefore, a plan to gain him

and Wallace Stevens poem Disillusionment of Ten O Clock , both the author and the poet shows how
being an individual is more valuable than being one of those conformed copies .
Is it better to stand out and compromise your values or is it better to stay comfortable in the crowd and

George Orwell s A Hanging Essay
In any account written by an author, real or fake, there is always a deeper goal whether it is to
persuade, inform, or just simply entertain. There is always some meaning at its heart. Sometimes,
however, messages become swayed and it becomes difficult to recognize the author s intentions in
writing. Sometimes his or her stance is unclear, however though one side could be strongly argued. A
Hanging by George Orwell is a prime example of this type of work, as the 1931 essay provokes
thought on the issue of capital punishment. The story details an experience Orwell had during his
work in Burma in which he was present for one prisoner s execution. There is certainly conflict within
Orwell for taking part in this event, and for being in relation to the functionaries responsible for
carrying out the sentence. While Orwell does not make his belief on capital punishment clear, there is
fair reason to argue that he is, in fact, an abolitionist. This is due to his possible usage of the prisoner
to represent the inhumanity of the death sentence, an excitable dog portraying the event through the
eyes of an innocent creature, and the irony of the workers humorous words in contrast to the stark
sobriety of the day however, Orwell s supposed objective, though strong, also comes under scrutiny in
its effectiveness. In order to address this piece and analyze its methods of intention, it is preferable to
first provide a summary of its events so that a fluent discussion is allowed. The

Comparing The Digestive Systems Of A Carnivore
Comparing the digestive systems of a Carnivore, a hind gut fermenter and a ruminant In this report, I
will be explaining the efficiency of the different digestive systems, the pros and cons of each digestive
system, how all the food is broken down and how each digestive system is suitable for the type of
animal. All of the digestive systems start with the mouth where the food enters first. The teeth in a
carnivore s mouth are designed to eat meat so they have evolved to have sharp and strong teeth, this
makes it easy to rip and tear meat from bones of prey. This makes the carnivore more efficient at
killing live prey than hindgut fermenters and ruminants. Hindgut fermenters teeth are designed to eat
grains and grasses, for example a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These parts evolved over time to suit the animal s needs. For example, some ruminant s lips are
designed to be relatively immobile and use its tongue to grasp a clump of grass and then bite it off.
Similarly, a hindgut fermenter uses its tongue to help grasp onto the plant and then uses its teeth and
mouth to rip it out of the ground to eat. However, a carnivore s food spends little time in the mouth so
its lips and tongue isn t used as much as the ruminants or hind gut fermenters. Before the food goes
down the oesophagus, saliva in the animal s mouth is used to help the food break down quicker and it
s used to moisten the food so it goes down the oesophagus better. As the animals were evolving, a
ruminant s saliva started to produce large amounts of alkaline saliva, which contains a little amylase to
help break down starch, this is helpful for the ruminants as it can help break down their food a lot
quicker in the mouth, whereas true carnivores do not have any digestive enzymes (amylase) in their
saliva as they have a diet consisting of protein which amylase won t break down. So this means the
ruminant is more efficient at digesting starch than a carnivore as amylase is found in the saliva on non
ruminant herbivores and, to a lesser extent, carnivores as well. All animals of all digestive systems

Pills And Starships
Book Report: Pills and Starships by Lydia Millet Summary Pills and Starships, an intriguing novel by
Lydia Millet, shows a vividly imagined dystopian future in which the world is consumed in despair
and the unsustainable population is controlled by the government. Lydia Millet does a brilliant job in
fabricating a post apocalyptic, sinister form of Earth that s enveloped in toxic gas due to excessive
pollution and climate change. Migrations of whole cities of people to escape bad air quality are
constant, food and water are scarce, and people are forced to take pills to stabilize their emotions.
Many oppressive limitations are placed upon the remaining people by the government and
corporations, who forbid having children and even limit your right to take your own life or die. The
main characters, Nat and Sam, live in this horrific world. Their parents experienced the beauty of
Earth before global warming led to its deterioration, and being old, they couldn t bear the pain and
depression of such a drastic transition anymore. As a result, they purchased a death contract ... Show

In terms of pills , it refers to the mood pharms in the story, which are drugs that corporations distribute
to stabilize the emotions of the general population to avoid chaos and conflict. These mood pharms are
taken by Nat, Sam, and their parents one week before their death, allowing them to remain calm even
in agitating situations. Starships are not directly referenced in the book, but I m assuming that it
actually refers to me, the reader. This is very fascinating because as Nat writes in her journal, she
refers to the reader an astronaut who floats in space and observes their deteriorating planet from a
spaceship. As previously stated, Lydia Millet is a very creative author with and I m stunned at how she
managed to incorporate the reader into the story with such a vivid

Brain Tumors
Brain tumors are devastating depending on their malignancy and also their propensity to cause
neurological deficits which may cause permanent disability. Malignant brain tumors can occur at all
ages [1 2] and are associated with poor prognosis. Surgery forms the mainstay of treatment for brain
tumors [2 5]. It is well known that significant tumor decompression is associated with a relatively
favourable prognosis [6 10]. An important challenge in brain tumor surgery is the accurate recognition
of the tumor existence and positioning [11]. The tumor positioning has an unique importance in brain
tumor surgery. Tumors in the brain are surrounded by normal brain tissue. The lesions which are sited
within the substance of the brain are called intra axial tumors. Those in close proximity of the brain,
but displace brain tissue are called extra axial tumors. Even extra axial tumors may invade brain
tissue. In both cases, the functioning brain tissue surrounds the tumor.

Neo-Marxist Filmmakers
Neo Marxist filmmakers were greatly influenced by Althusser s theory of ideology, which viewed film
as an ideological apparatus that tried to determine how films turn viewers into their subject, and
encourage them to believe not only in the represented reality, but also in their preferred one, the one
that could not exist without their structuring. For example, the Jean Louis Baudry s article Ideological
effects of the Basic Cinematographic Apparatus (1985) says that the making of movies is a results of
the recent capitalism s need to restore in people minds the illusion of having control over their own
lives. The illusion was needed for their willing participation in the new industrial style of production
that actually took away the remains of their self control. Baudry found ideological properties in the
film apparatus itself that constitute a transcendental concentrated subject, and therefore induce a
willingness to cooperate with the capitalist mode of production. An observer who accepts the position
set by a painting, whereby his or hers eye overlays the painting s point of view, experiences the full
illusion of depth. This effect has a strong ideological outcome since, in ideological terms, the painting
arranges the viewer space in a centered and organized form that appears to originate from the painting.

in 133 healthy people have it (Celiac disease facts and figures). Some people are more susceptible to

Sea Level Training Essay
When it comes to gaining an advantage, athletes will do everything in their power to make sure that
they are able to outperform their competition. One currently legal method of accomplishing this is by
going to a high altitude location, which increases the amount of oxygen getting to the tissues. This
supposedly increases the amount of red blood cells in your body, and gives you an advantage if you
were to perform back at sea level. However, should this be considered a reliable training technique or
is it not worth the effort? Regardless of the elevation you are at on earth, the percentage of oxygen
(21%), carbon dioxide (.03%), and nitrogen (79%) remain the same. Though, as you increase your
elevation the pressure of the air decreases. This is because there is less pressure pushing down on the
air as you move up through the levels of the atmosphere. As a result, the partial pressures decrease. At
sea level the pressure of air is 760 mmHg, while at the peak of Mount Everest (extreme example) it is
about 230 mmHg, showing that oxygen will have a lower partial pressure as you increase in altitude.

This is because peripheral chemoreceptors are able to detect changes in arterial oxygen levels within
the blood. When levels become low enough, the receptors become excited and send the information to
an area of the central nervous system that is responsible for respiration rate and depth of breathing.
This is why most people hyperventilate when they increase their altitude, to try and make up for the
oxygen that their body is lacking. The pressure gradient is also affected at the tissues. Arterial blood
has a partial pressure of 100 mmHg normally, while the partial pressure in the tissues is about 40
mmHg. However, as you increase in altitude the arterial blood pressure decreases, causing the
pressure gradient to decrease and less oxygen to enter the

Sex, Racism, And Discrimination In Advertising
The industry of advertising was intended to be a means of having a product reach its targeted
audience. It is supposed to entice consumers into buying a product. Advertising has become a hugely
productive force. The advertising industry brings in revenue of $250 billion dollars per year in the
United States alone. Advertising is unavoidable and consuming. The average American women, man,
or child is exposed to over 3,000 ads a day and will spend about two years of his or her life watching
television commercials. The ads are featured at bus stops, school vending machines, and even on food
items. People tend to feel that they are unaffected by advertising and are simply able to tune them out.
People are unable to avoid advertising s influence because even if one does their best to ignore
advertising, it is impossible. Advertising s impact is quick and subconscious. We are affected every
day and in every aspect of our lives by the power of advertising and remain completely unaware

Semiotics In Tv Show
Semiotics, also known as semiology, is the study of signs, symbols, and signification. Signs and
symbols are hidden throughout television shows and movies, especially in crime dramas like NCIS.
Shows like this are notorious for having discreet connections between different points of the story. In
one particular episode entitled Missing, a Marine, Bill Atlas, disappears from a bar where, just
moments before, he was having a paranoid conversation with a reporter. Before leaving, Atlas finishes
a drink brought to him by the bartender, who says it s from a secret admirer. He goes outside to smoke

pole next to a decomposing body, and immediately knows why this is all happening, but not who is
doing it. ( Missing ). Throughout the entire episode, Atlas is trapped in a cell located in the sewers
experiencing several different forms of torture, that the audience later learns are intentional signs.
Starvation and leaving the dead body inside the cell are the more standard methods Atlas captor uses,

Japanese Cultural Values
Cultural Values in Comparison with the United States
According to Murai, adjusting to the Japanese culture is often challenging for foreign companies (1).
Some global firms such McDonalds and Starbucks have entered the Japanese market and positioned
themselves as respected brands through adapting to the prevailing culture. However, others have
struggled to win the minds and hearts of the discerning Japanese customers. The difference between
the successful and not so successful firms is that the latter employed the right steps to understand and
address the cultural differences and utilized them as vital resources. According to Geert Hofstede s Six

How Did Egypt Use Triangles
The Greeks and the Egyptians used triangles as early as 3500 BCE. They used these triangles as rules
of thumb. They could apply these rules to specific applications. For example, the Egyptians knew that
the 3:4:5 ratio was a right triangle. They could derive this because for them to create a right triangle
the Egyptian land surveyors used a rope divided into twelve equal parts, creating a triangle with three
pieces on one side, four pieces on the second side, and five pieces on the last side. The right angle was
found where the three unit side came together with the four unit side. This was a very efficient way to
create right triangles. It s a mystery as to how the Egyptians came up with this, but this was later used

The Criticism And Characteristics Of Romanticism In The...
INTRODUCTION
Romanticism is a movement which influences many works as literature, painting, music, architecture,
and it developed in Germany and Britain in the early decades of the nineteenth century and progressed
until mid century. The period started in 1790 and finished 1830. It can be said that this period had

The Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists uses an interesting technique in its apse,
compared to previous Byzantine decorations in apses. It incorporates the technique of fresco painting,
where artists painted pigments into the plaster and wood on the walls so the paint would become one

decorations in apses. The artist mostly employed primary pigments in the Christ in Majesty with
Symbols of the Four Evangelists to make the figures stand out. A repetition occurs in the pigments
with red, gold like yellow, and blue with the occasional purple and the hair colors vary with tones of
brown and grayish white. The style portrayed in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four

Explain How The Circulatory And Respiratory System
The Living body
Task 2: Use the results from experiments 1 and 2 and research, to explain how the circulatory and
respiratory systems work together to maintain the function of the cells and the body as a whole.
In the human body, the circulatory system consists of the heart, blood vessels, arteries, veins and
capillaries. The heart pumps blood around the body via the veins.
The circulatory system works when nutrients and oxygen are distributed to every cell in the human
body by the blood. The Circulatory system also gets rid of waste products such as carbon dioxide and

Abstract: The Effects of Temperature on Catechol Oxidase. Lania Ellis, 2014, 102 Student Center Dr.
San Marcos, TX 78666.
Temperature can affect the reaction of catechol oxidase by speeding up or slowing down the reaction.
I was able to see what happened to the absorbance after changing the temperature of the catechol
oxidase solution. I did this by heating and cooling the solutions to measure the absorbances in hot,
cold, warm, and room temperature. Then the data was compared to see how the temperature effected
the solution. The catechol oxidase solutions reacted best in room temperature (twenty three degrees
Celsius) and the worst in the cold (zero degrees Celsius). I concluded that temperature really does
affect the way catechol oxidase reacts. Introduction: Starting out with some background information, I
know that enzymes are biological catalysts. The enzyme that I used for this experiment was potato
juice. Enzymes make reaction rates go faster. They lower activation energy, making chemical
reactions. Temperature has an effect on canola cultivars. The higher temperature decreased stem
diameter, but room temperature had thicker stems. So I believe the same will happen for the catechol
oxidase; the solution will react faster at room temperature. Other enzymes can also have different
effects such as the enzyme in cattle serum. The enzyme lost activity in room temperature. With that
being said room temperature can also be detrimental with specific enzymes. Fungus also

Our research over the past five years into the battles between multinationals and local Chinese companies reveals that while market dominance by local champions is far from universal, it s becoming ever more frequent. In industries as different as beer brewing, mobile phone manufacturing and laundry detergent production, Chinese companies often seeming to appear from nowhere are forcing multinationals to rethink their strategies and their hopes for explosive growth in the China market. 1 The message is clear: Multinationals must factor in the existence of robust local competition, while considering the new opportunities that have opened up as a result of China s WTO membership. To understand the way competition between multinationals and local champions is evolving and to pinpoint the keys to success, we traced the evolution of competition in China in 10 industries over the last 10 years.2 We conducted more than 100 interviews with dozens of leading companies operating in China, both multinationals and locals, and reviewed thousands of pages of secondary data. The picture of competition that emerged from our research can best be described not in terms of traditional market positioning, but as a battle of competencies between multinationals and local players. • 17. George Orwell s A Hanging Essay In any account written by an author, real or fake, there is always a deeper goal whether it is to persuade, inform, or just simply entertain. There is always some meaning at its heart. Sometimes, however, messages become swayed and it becomes difficult to recognize the author s intentions in writing. Sometimes his or her stance is unclear, however though one side could be strongly argued. A Hanging by George Orwell is a prime example of this type of work, as the 1931 essay provokes thought on the issue of capital punishment. The story details an experience Orwell had during his work in Burma in which he was present for one prisoner s execution. There is certainly conflict within Orwell for taking part in this event, and for being in relation to the functionaries responsible for carrying out the sentence. While Orwell does not make his belief on capital punishment clear, there is fair reason to argue that he is, in fact, an abolitionist. This is due to his possible usage of the prisoner to represent the inhumanity of the death sentence, an excitable dog portraying the event through the eyes of an innocent creature, and the irony of the workers humorous words in contrast to the stark sobriety of the day however, Orwell s supposed objective, though strong, also comes under scrutiny in its effectiveness. All of the digestive systems start with the mouth where the food enters first. The teeth in a carnivore s mouth are designed to eat meat so they have evolved to have sharp and strong teeth, this makes it easy to rip and tear meat from bones of prey. This makes the carnivore more efficient at killing live prey than hindgut fermenters and ruminants. Hindgut fermenters teeth are designed to eat grains and grasses, for example a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These parts evolved over time to suit the animal s needs. For example, some ruminant s lips are designed to be relatively immobile and use its tongue to grasp a clump of grass and then bite it off. Similarly, a hindgut fermenter uses its tongue to help grasp onto the plant and then uses its teeth and mouth to rip it out of the ground to eat. However, a carnivore s food spends little time in the mouth so its lips and tongue isn t used as much as the ruminants or hind gut fermenters. Before the food goes down the oesophagus, saliva in the animal s mouth is used to help the food break down quicker and it s used to moisten the food so it goes down the oesophagus better. As the animals were evolving, a ruminant s saliva started to produce large amounts of alkaline saliva, which contains a little amylase to help break down starch, this is helpful for the ruminants as it can help break down their food a lot quicker in the mouth, whereas true carnivores do not have any digestive enzymes (amylase) in their saliva as they have a diet consisting of protein which amylase won t break down. So this means the ruminant is more efficient at digesting starch than a carnivore as amylase is found in the saliva on non ruminant herbivores and, to a lesser extent, carnivores as well. • 24. Neo-Marxist Filmmakers Neo Marxist filmmakers were greatly influenced by Althusser s theory of ideology, which viewed film as an ideological apparatus that tried to determine how films turn viewers into their subject, and encourage them to believe not only in the represented reality, but also in their preferred one, the one that could not exist without their structuring. For example, the Jean Louis Baudry s article Ideological effects of the Basic Cinematographic Apparatus (1985) says that the making of movies is a results of the recent capitalism s need to restore in people minds the illusion of having control over their own lives. The illusion was needed for their willing participation in the new industrial style of production that actually took away the remains of their self control. Baudry found ideological properties in the film apparatus itself that constitute a transcendental concentrated subject, and therefore induce a willingness to cooperate with the capitalist mode of production. An observer who accepts the position set by a painting, whereby his or hers eye overlays the painting s point of view, experiences the full illusion of depth. This effect has a strong ideological outcome since, in ideological terms, the painting arranges the viewer space in a centered and organized form that appears to originate from the painting. Laura Mulvey, in Narrative Cinema and Visual Pleasure (1973), uses psychoanalysis as a political weapon to uncover ways in which the patriarchal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One currently legal method of accomplishing this is by going to a high altitude location, which increases the amount of oxygen getting to the tissues. This supposedly increases the amount of red blood cells in your body, and gives you an advantage if you were to perform back at sea level. However, should this be considered a reliable training technique or is it not worth the effort? Regardless of the elevation you are at on earth, the percentage of oxygen (21%), carbon dioxide (.03%), and nitrogen (79%) remain the same. Though, as you increase your elevation the pressure of the air decreases. This is because there is less pressure pushing down on the air as you move up through the levels of the atmosphere. As a result, the partial pressures decrease. At sea level the pressure of air is 760 mmHg, while at the peak of Mount Everest (extreme example) it is about 230 mmHg, showing that oxygen will have a lower partial pressure as you increase in altitude. The average American women, man, or child is exposed to over 3,000 ads a day and will spend about two years of his or her life watching television commercials. They could derive this because for them to create a right triangle the Egyptian land surveyors used a rope divided into twelve equal parts, creating a triangle with three pieces on one side, four pieces on the second side, and five pieces on the last side. Temperature can affect the reaction of catechol oxidase by speeding up or slowing down the reaction. I was able to see what happened to the absorbance after changing the temperature of the catechol oxidase solution. I did this by heating and cooling the solutions to measure the absorbances in hot, cold, warm, and room temperature. Then the data was compared to see how the temperature effected the solution. The catechol oxidase solutions reacted best in room temperature (twenty three degrees Celsius) and the worst in the cold (zero degrees Celsius). I concluded that temperature really does affect the way catechol oxidase reacts. Introduction: Starting out with some background information, I know that enzymes are biological catalysts. The enzyme that I used for this experiment was potato juice. Enzymes make reaction rates go faster. They lower activation energy, making chemical reactions. Temperature has an effect on canola cultivars. The higher temperature decreased stem diameter, but room temperature had thicker stems. So I believe the same will happen for the catechol oxidase; the solution will react faster at room temperature. Other enzymes can also have different effects such as the enzyme in cattle serum. The enzyme lost activity in room temperature. With that being said room temperature can also be detrimental with specific enzymes. Fungus also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
