Childhood Obesity Epidemic, By The Encyclopedia Of Science
For the past few decades, the dire situation of obesity in America has gotten worse and is now
affecting new generations of young Americans. Every day the poor eating and physical choices that
children make can lead them to a life with diabetes, heart disease, and cancers. The unhealthy lifestyle
that children have is influenced by their parents and the society that surrounds them. This
unprecedented surge of poor lifestyle choices has lead to an epidemic that young children are now
facing. Ultimately, the health of young children is at stake. Being obese is not just being overweight,
but being overweight at an unhealthy level. The way to classify someone as overweight is by using
their body mass index, better known as BMI. If someone has ... Show more content on

As stated in the Encyclopedia of Science s article, obesity is affecting any child from any ethnicity or
race, age, economic backing, or region. Hispanic children, African American children, native
American children, and any other children with bad quality eating habits, especially in the south, are at
an exceptionally higher risk. The southern part of America is known for their comfort food, which is
extremely fattening, and is the reason why children living in the south have an exceptionally higher
chance of becoming obese. In the African American communities, as well as the Hispanic
communities, nearly 40% of the children are overweight or obese. Children who are at a lower
economic standing may have a higher chance of developing obesity, but that doesn t mean wealthier
children are immune. The site, Let s Move states that without solving this issue, 1/3 of all children
born after 2000 will suffer from diabetes at one point in their lives. Statistics from the Encyclopedia of
Life Science show that this number is still growing and is being compared to the 7% of obese children
and 5% obese teens in the 1980 s, to show the changes needed to be done in society. More action, now
more than ever, needs to be taken against obesity. Obese children risk developing cardiovascular
problems, cancers and as well as

The Democracy Of The United States Government

Voter Turnout In a democracy citizens are permitted to have a significant amount of influence on
government through the election of government officials. This is known as Direct Democracy, which
means that the citizens play a significant role on the laws and policies of the land. Although the liberty
of voting is available, why is the voter turnout so low? Many other countries have a much larger vote
turnout than the United States. The reason for this varies; some major points would be the
Demographics, voting laws, and political favoritism/corruption that affect the voter turnout. When the
people vote for a public figure they expect them to succumb to the will of the people, and not big ...

Those who campaign have a hard time reaching out to the young community. Most college students do
not own a television set, therefore are not well aware of current political affairs. In part many young
Americans feel that their vote does not matter, or that whatever they must vote for doesn t interest or
affect them in any way. Older age groups that vote tend to be more educated on politics, because they
tend to be much better educated. Ones views on politics can vary depending on the type of
environment you grew up in. The agents of socialization in one s life play a big role on determining
how one feels towards politics. Parental views on politics influence their children s future views on
politics greatly. Ethnicity and socio economic status have a huge impact on the voter turnout. Political
knowledge and perception is no different than the area you live in or the quality of food you eat, it s all
based on wealth and social status. Those who make enough money to barely survive tend to have little
to no knowledge on politics. These groups tend to be minority groups. The vast majority of groups
that tend to vote are strictly but not definitively well educated white families. Although this is not
always the case, certain ethnic groups and minority groups vote when they have interest in what they
are voting for. For example, in the 2012 election with Obama, for the first time ever the overall black
voter turnout exceeded that of the white voter turnout, the idea of

Chagas Disease Research Paper
Disease will always be prevalent across the world, there is no place where disease is non existent and
every single region across the world has its own varieties of diseases. Most of them are different, but
they all have one thing in common, they destroy the life of a human by either bringing birth to acute
symptoms or chronic ones and sometimes even death. Our focus though, will not be on every single
region, but particularly in the tropics, home to malaria, hookworm, yellow fever, and most important
of all Chagas disease. Chagas disease will be our only focus in the tropics and perhaps another day
there will be time for the rest, but for now it will be Chagas. This disease has been neglected and at
times thought of as weak in stature, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malaria for example was given recognition and Chagas disease was distorted as a myth; which lead to
a more dominant spread of T.cruzi throughout the Latin America countries. Reason being why it was
no longer believed was the fact that there were significant problems trying to diagnose Chagas disease
in the chronic stages. This meant that men like Kraus believed that Chagas disease was not the culprit
behind the chronic stages and even later named the disease instead as parasitic thyroiditis (Armus, 82).
Rudolf Kraus was an experienced bacteriologist that came from Europe and moved later to Argentina.
He was very jealous of Chagas and influenced others to betray him and instead provide information
for Kraus. People distorted much of Chagas work and it must be noted that his own friends as well
turned their back against him and feed jealous enemies like Kraus information about the disease and
the several gaps that Chagas had yet to figure out. Although Chagas battled enemies such as Kraus,
Figuerido, and others, he won and kept his recognition, but what happened was the fact that people no

Low Voter Turnout In Canada
Historically Canadians have been participating less in elections for many years. The highest turnout
rate was 79.4% in 1958. The 2011 elections was the first in many years in which Canadians were
concerned enough to go vote, 61.4% participated which shows an increase from the 2008 elections in
which only 59.1% participated.
The decline in voter turnout is mostly awarded to the younger generations. They represent the
category of people that participate the least in elections. During the 2011 elections, 38.8% of people
aged 18 to 24 voted, which is an augmentation from the 37.8% in the 2008 elections (Barnes, Andre,
and Erin Virgint, 2010). After a study done by elections Canada, it was showed that the new
generations of voters are less likely to exercise that right today, than they would have some years ago
Only a third of first time voters today are actually voting, half the rate of a generation ago. ( Ibbitson,
John, 2011) Another reason for the turnout decline could be awarded to the lack of interest; Statistics
Canada did a poll in which they asked people who had not voted why they had done so, and 28% said

A History of Product Placement in Film and Television
A History of Product Placement in Film and Television
Peter Rush Product placement in the marketing world has become more and more evident in the past
few decades. More specifically, product placement in the movie industry has been one of the most
successful ways to advertise products. Oftentimes, products are associated with a film, or vice versa.
Such is the case with Reese s Pieces candies and Stephen Spielberg s film, E.T . While it is a very
expensive way of companies to advertise their brands, it is one that pays off immensely if executed
properly. Although it seems as if product placement in film and television is a relatively new way of
marketing products to the public, it has been around as early as the late ... Show more content on

But although some of the Edison films were obvious offers of products and services, product
placements as subtle efforts to influence audience attitude and behavior became a specialty of Edison
s. His catalog listed hundreds of travelogues, such as trips to the Far West, Niagara Falls, and Hawaii,
along with dozens of railroad films. The business of product placement had begun. In the United
States, cinematic art and business intertwined in the 1910s and 1920s as manufacturers and
government distributed advertising films that combined drama and commerce to the small town
circuit. Producers of these films included International Harvester, the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
and the YMCA. From 1914 to 1921, Ford Motor Company created a series of newsreels titled Ford
Animated Weekly and Ford Educational Weekly. A typical serial included Model T races and news
footage that sometimes incorporated Henry Ford meeting with government officials. These advertising
films were distributed at low cost to exhibitors and found an early approval in small towns, with Ford
claiming a viewership of 3 million per week (Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, 2006).
Not only did the product placement within the movie help to reimburse both parties of the agreement,
but the American films initiated a worldwide trade in American products as well.

The Ejercito Zapatista De Liberacion Nacional
The Ejercito Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN) is a current revolutionary group that resides in
Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas is state with a large majority of the population that has indigenous blood.
With that being said they are very connected to their indigenous roots compared to other countries.
With the start of the Mexican Revolution there were many people living in poverty and without land.
Large amounts of wealthy Mexicans were owners of the grand majority of the land. A main problem
that many believed that was resolved with the end of the Mexican War was the redistribution. Sadly,
this phase of the war never reached Chiapas. For decades they were living in poverty and working for
others. Consequently, many indigenous people ultimately revolted with the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA), because it made the peasants lose more money than they originally had.
With the Ejercito Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN) it demonstrated that the indigenous people
were proud of their roots and that they would do anything to keep their dignity even if they were still
peasants.
MEXICAN REVOLUTION The start of the Mexican Revolution came about with the dictatorship of
Porfiro Diaz. Porfiro Diaz was the president who came after Benito Juarez, the first indigenous
president of Mexico. At Diaz was liked by many of the elite in Mexico due to the fact that they were

King Louis Xiv Baroque Style Essay
King Louis XIV of France used the Baroque style of art in an effective attempt to represent himself as
an absolute monarch due to many stylistic choices this particular style has that would enable him to
get his power across more effectively than any other style. Most noticeable of all aspects of the
Baroque style is the amount of detail and stuff in the painting. Textures make the fabrics look like real
velvet and silk that are way more expensive than other types of cloth. Realism that the Baroque style
employs helps reinforce the power of an absolute monarch by portraying King Louis as a real force to
be reckoned with as well as a symbol of perfection due to the muscles and the stance he is put in. The

How Did Pope John Paul II Impact The Catholic Church
Pope John Paul II was an important figure in the Catholic Church during his 26 year papacy. He
forged a legacy as one of the Catholic Church s most influential leaders and beatified more people
than any pope in history. Even when he was younger and defied the Nazis he showed an immense
amount of courage. He played a key role in the fall of communism, brought the Catholic message to
many around the world, and captivated billions with his contributions to the Catholic tradition and
with his religious charisma. His papacy would leave a huge impact in how future Popes would carry

Pope John Paul II broke with tradition and a 2000 year old doctrine when he prayed with pagans,
heretics, and other religions around the world. Pope John Paul II inspired a day for spirituality,
specifically the day of prayer the pope convened in 1987 with religious leaders from around the world.
With not only a lecture on the interreligious experience of the Assisi Day of Prayer, the pope stated,
There are undeniably differences [in religions] that reflect the genius and spiritual riches that God has
given to the peoples (John Paul II, The Meaning of the Assisi Day, 562). His statement is
extraordinary in that the pope is not only affirming that other religions have the presence of God, but
also that some religious differences could be due to other religions having spiritual riches given by
God that are unique to them. (Feldmeier, 18) This showed the Catholic church and religious around
the world that church acknowledges other religious, that we all have spirituality in our different
beliefs, and that combining other aspects of a religion can help with the religious experience. This one
day opened the new possibility that the church, it s followers, and other s outside the religion can look
upon. Engaging with other religions can make one spiritually richer and theologically deeper than one
would be without knowing about them. (Feldmeier, 18) This is

How Did The Samurai Affect Japan s Military Society

The Samurai warriors wielded a large variety of weapons but they became famous for their symbol,
the katana (samurai sword). From birth, the Samurai were to undergo brutal training to ensure their
success as warriors. They could be tested by running barefoot in the snow, enduring a freezing cold
waterfall, or fasting for days on end. However, many of these early Japanese made weapons were not
practical; they were used for religious ceremonies and rituals, indicating a relatively peaceful island
nation during its early years. Japan s most famous weapon needs little introduction.. Strong enough to
be used defensively but sharp enough to cut through limbs, the katana earned the reputation as the soul
of the samurai a reputation that lasted long after the samurai abandoned the sword for the pen. After

The Dichotomy Of The Role Of Women In Agamemnon
To the outside, modern day, western observer, the role of women in Agamemnon makes a pretty clear
mark as to how the Ancient Greeks viewed women. Notably, that they seem to hate them. Of the five
women who are mentioned at all in the story, only one is portrayed positively, and even she is
murdered and then only praised and remembered for her beautiful virginity, and her voice. Repeatedly
throughout the play the women are demonized for things that are not necessarily their fault, and often
times are the fault of the men who blame them. While these women can be less than morally pure, a
strangely large amount of blame and doubt gets placed upon them while men are mourned for heroic
deeds and have their misdeeds overlooked. This dichotomy between the two genders is perhaps
clearest between the title character Agamemnon and his wife, Clytemnestra, but can be seen in sharp
detail through the combination of all the women. In the case of Clytemnestra, there is no doubt that
she was wrong in cheating although it was likely that her husband did as well. However, one of her
first interactions on stage is of the chorus doubting her for seemingly no reason, until she got
incredibly graphic with her details which caused them to exclaim how much her words were like a
man s, and then believe her. This kind of persistent lack of confidence despite her repeatedly proving
herself to be just as capable can understandably lead to a strained relationship between her and her
people, and yet

Similarities Between Rugby And Rugby
The 1967 intercontinental playoff. Almost 70,000 fans were in attendance to witness the action. On
pitch, fifty one fouls were committed and six red cards were handed out. This display would be
unacceptable for any other sport so surely it is time for football to change. Football is the most
watched sport worldwide with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA, controlling
a £20 billion industry which speaks volumes about the popularity of the sport yet it has a reputation
for foul play. Whether you watch the game religiously or have only ever seen a single match you will
have witnessed a player attempt to cheat their way to a penalty. Most sports fans can agree that this
unruly behaviour is frowned upon in every sport. Football has been compared with the Rugby Union
for many years now and it is clear that football has the popular vote, but it can learn how to enforce
discipline from its rugby counterpart in areas where it really makes the difference; the yellow card
system, managerial styles and the referees. A good place to start the reforms with the yellow card
system. Currently, football yellow cards do not make a big impact on the player s behaviour, whereas
rugby has found a much more efficient alternative. In football, a yellow card is not a threat to the
players as they must earn two them to be sent off in order to make a substantial difference to the
outcome of the game. However, the Rugby Union s yellow card is widely regarded among fans

The film of Hector and the Search for Happiness has a captivating plot which makes us want to watch
it until the end. Since in his research Hector goes to three places and each place has their own moral

China is described as a wonderful country, which has unique culture. The second place is Africa, with

Premarital Sex Greeley Summary
In Reverend Andrew Greeley s article Premarital Sex, he discusses the issues behind chastity and
promiscuity and how different generations view them. The thesis of this article was that the Catholic
Church s teachings were affected by the old fashioned, cultural belief that physical virginity must be
saved for marriage. Greeley s purpose of the article is to show the difference between physical
virginity and sexual love. The first argument that Greeley makes is that, although a practiced norm in
the Catholic culture, physical virginity is not part of the Catholic Christian heritage. Greeley adds that
the Catholics associated it with the practice that if the bride was a virgin, it guaranteed that land and
property was passed on the the rightful offspring. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another argument that Greeley makes is that physical virginity is not the reason Catholics do not
engage in premarital sex, but their belief in human love. He makes the statement that the main reason
chastity should be practiced is because those who abstain from premarital sex are committed to
reflecting the presence of God in the world . The next argument that Greeley makes is that young
couples are taught not to have physical relations with each other until marriage. They are taught that
they can only hold hands and can only have quick kisses. Then when they do get married, they are
expected to, leap from a relationship in which there was no expressed passion to one in which passion
was totally expressed within the space of twenty four hours . Greeley adds to this by saying that he
would rather the Church teach these young couples, skills of generosity, patience, and self sacrifice
required for sustained human intimacy , instead of preventing them of everything except hand holding
and light kisses. I think that Greeley s arguments were very effective and convincing. It opened my

President Reagan And The President Of The United States
In 1981, a self proclaimed Washington outsider took the oath as President of the United
States of America. The country anxiously awaited to see if Ronald Reagan could keep the
promises he made during the campaign trail; some of the promises he made were, to appoint
the first female Supreme Court Justice and to change the ideology of the court. Reagan, a
staunch republican hoped to sway the court right for the first time in decades. While, he was
able to sway the court, complications from a democratic senate and a lame duck presidency
forced him to place only one true conservative and two moderate judges leaving a more
moderate than Reagan promised.
When Ronald Reagan took his first oath in January of 1981, there was the potential to replace
five justices who were all over the age of 70. He actually placed only three and elevated one the
opportunity to swing the court to the conservative side may have caused both the public and the
senate to look more closely at the nominations, impeding the president s goals. The shift right
should have been an easy accomplishment when Justice Potter Stewart stepped down, Stewart
was often considered a swing justice. Even more promising was the retirement of Lewis
Powell, who was often considered the most influential member of the court; often the deciding

Comparison Of Paramecium, Amoeba, And Euglena
There are five supergroups within the Domain Eukarya. All supergroups contain organisms called
protists. Most Protists are often described as simple organisms; however, their cellular organization
and metabolism are as complex as other higher organisms (McGraw Hill, 2017). Therefore, comparing
between three of these supergroups will make us understand their classification in that specific group.
Paramecium, Amoeba, and Euglena are three eukaryotic organisms that can be interesting to compare
them for several reasons. One of them is that these three organisms cause the most harmful illness to
the human body. Also, their structural differences are very exciting to look at under the microscope.
Therefore, knowing their trophic level, life strategy, locomotion, and reproduction of these organisms
will help us understand why they were not grouped in the same supergroup. ... Show more content on

the other hand, Amoeba looks like a gray blob with single nuclei. On the other hand, Euglena can be

its surrounding environment. It can be parasitic or free living where water and soil are present. It looks

During this service, we were instructed to sit in the chairs in the back of the room instead of standing
with the other church members during prayer and worship. I had some trouble picking up everything
from the second service, but I did catch some primary themes. The Imam spoke about a story of a
blind man who was able to miraculously see again. However, others judged the man for various
reasons. He also spoke about the conflict of a student and a teacher who simply did not understand
each other at first. Nonetheless, after some time, the teacher begins to take time to listen to the student
and attempts to understand the student s background.
After the service the church provided us with a great meal that included spiced chicken and Eastern
flat bread. Like many of the other locations I visited, the church members at the mosque were very

Comparing Jane Eyre And The Horse Dealer s Daughter
Women as Outsiders: A Comparison Of Jane Eyre and The Horse Dealer s Daughter Women are often
portrayed as a marginalized other or outsider in literature, reflecting the degree to which they are
outside the traditional patriarchal concepts of authority and power as well as (for much of Western
history) outside the practical and legal means of self sufficiency and self direction. As the times have
shifted, the particular perspective and definition of women as outsiders has also changed, as can be
seen in a comparison of the central figures in Charlotte Bronte s Victorian era novel Jane Eyre and D.
H. Lawrence s more modern short story The Horse Dealer s Daughter. Interestingly, both heroines are
seen as similarly detached from traditional power structures, yet the degree to which Jane distances
herself through her morality actually gives her power, while the increasing amorality of the times
leads Mabel (Lawrence s protagonist) down a path of deeper despair, self directed though it may be. In
Jane Eyre, the title female is an outcast almost everywhere she goes, from an orphan in the home of
her uncle s family to the school at Lowood where she eventually finds a niche but where she does not
truly belong and finally to Thornfield Hall, where she fits in all too well but finds that her familiarity
is ultimately inappropriate. In all of her moves, Jane is driven largely by necessity the need for shelter,
and then the need for work. She is also driven by her own moral

Espn Case Study Analysis
To what extent are ESPN subscribers committed to the ESPN network and brand compared to on the
air talent on the network?
It s no secret that ESPN has lost a multitude of popular sports broadcasters over the last few years.
Many have joined FOX Sports, after being unable to come to terms with ESPN s contract deals. These
personalities include big names such as, Colin Cowherd, Jason Whitlock, Skip Bayless, Shannon
Spake and Chris Broussard. Although moving forward without these reporters will save the company
money, one must consider how these transitions are impacting ESPN s viewership. Colin Cowherd
was with ESPN radio since 2003 until Fox Sports outbid ESPN in a $6 million deal. Skip Bayless also
decided to jump ship this past April. According to Forbes, Bayless signed a $26 million deal which

My Observation Of Being A Teacher In Middle School
My time observing at Martin Luther King Jr Middle school was such a learning experience. As a
future teacher I learned a lot about myself. For one, I learned that being a teacher in a Title 1 school is
not for me. Our course text in chapter 4 stated that there is a shortage in the right kinds of teachers in
urban communities. The book is absolutely right. When it comes to kids in Title 1 schools and urban
communities it takes a special kind of teacher to deal with the issues that appear in those kids. A
teacher must be willing to put in extra time to work with the kids and be strong enough to deal with
their rough exteriors. Ms. Hill emphasized that idea to me. I ll be honest, I have the cultural
background to work with Title 1 kids, but I do not have the personality for it. The kids that I observed,
would tear me down and send me running if I were their teacher because I am far too sensitive and I
am a pushover at this time in my life. I would love to work with Title 1 students eventually, but I know
that I have a lot of growing to do as an educator before that happens. From this experience, I also
learned that when I become a teacher, I want my students to like me as a person but that I also want to
them to give me the utmost respect. I feel that I can best do this by really getting to know my students,
feeding into their interests, and by building a personal connection with them so that they know that I
care about them and what happens to them. At the same time, for

Theme Of Nature In Thoreau
discards the language of obedience and redemption used by the church. To Thoreau, Nature and God
are at once synonymous and interconnected: Next to us the grandest laws are continually being
executed. Next to us is not the workman we have hired, with whom we love so well to talk, but the
workman whose work we are. (175) Thoreau believes in a creator god, a living god that makes of
Nature his home. Thoreau feels Nature is a divine space: a space where man is able to feel close to his
god, a space where man is able to appreciate his god s favors and Nature is the space where man can
embrace the god within himself. Influenced by Emerson, Coleridge and Wordsworth, among others,
Thoreau thinks that nature is the source of strength, spirituality ... Show more content on

One would approach at first warily through the shrub oaks, running over the snow crust by fits and
starts like a leaf blown by the wind, now a few paces this way, with wonderful speed and waste of
energy, making inconceivable haste with his trotters, as if it were for a wager, and now as many paces
that way, but never getting on more than half a rod at a time; and then suddenly pausing with a
ludicrous expression and a gratuitous somerset, as if all the eyes in the universe were eyed on him for
all the motions of a squirrel, even in the most solitary recesses of the forest, imply spectators as much
as those of a dancing girl wasting more time in delay and circumspection than would have sufficed to

spectators, soliloquizing and talking to all the universe at the same time for no reason that I could ever
detect, or he himself was aware of, I suspect (357). Concurrently, Thoreau projects an image of nature
as a whole, as a distinct, living and essential presence rather than as an accumulation of items to which
man assigns significance. The interconnectedness of the various components of nature is illustrated in
this passage of Walden: Standing at the smooth sandy beach at

Bill Cosby Allegations Essay
There is no way humanly possible that these Bill Cosby Allegations are not true with all the 13 of the
Women who stood forward and accused him of sexual abuse. Now said in the paragraphs before, the
multiple women who accused Bill Cosby of sexual abuse and misconduct provided different stories
with multiple similarities in them. This on its own is just a very obvious clue to the fact that he has
sexually abused these women, along with how many stories there are.
The first allegation was made by Sunni Welles in March of 2015 stating that, Cosby raped her twice
when she was an aspiring singer in the mid 1960s by drugging her drink (Littlefield). The second
allegation was made by Kristina Ruehli and she stated that It was all foggy, and I woke up in the bed. I
found myself on the bed, and he had his shirt off. He had unzipped his pants. (Littlefield). The third
allegation was made by Linda Joy Traitz, she was just a waitress at a restaurant that happened to be co
owned by Bill Cosby; she stated that he drugged and groped her in his car. (Littlefield). There were
ten more women who came forward and accused Bill Cosby of sexual abuse and misconduct. Notice

the reason that one accusation was actually proven false, this was the accusation made by Andrea

their relationship was consensual, which made the side of Cosby seem somewhat believable because

Contributions Of European Empires
Over the course of history, empires have been tremendously influential and left an imprint on the
world. Many of which rapidly developed from around 1450 to 1750. Although they can be similar,
there are certain factors that can distinguish one empire from another. Furthermore, European empires
were fundamentally different than the other ones at the time because of the approach they took in
conquering new lands, dealing with the conquered people, and in their results of conquest. European
empires focused primarily on global expansion whereas the other empires expanded and conquered
adjacently. The Spanish, British, and the Portuguese traveled overseas to extend their borders. The
Spanish conquered the Aztecs and moved throughout the Americas, the British honed in on northern
parts of America, and the Portuguese moved into Brazil. The British utilized mainly horses which
were pivotal in aiding conquests along with slaves from Africa who helped produce the first modern
industry: sugar. Also, the British first formed their state then looked to expand. Thus, they would have
a good structure before doing so. Europeans were able to accomplish these feats due to their
innovations regarding the sea including mapmaking, sailing techniques, and ship designs. Other
empires, most notably the Russians, expanded much closer to home. Noted as a regional power rather
than a global one, Russia entered Siberia and came into contact with Eastern Europe and Asia. In
addition, Russia expanded as

The Plan B Pill
As attested by the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, women
have the right to control the number and timing of their pregnancies. In order to exercise this right,
women throughout the world need access to the different types of contraceptives, as well as to safe
abortion services. While most contraceptives are used as preventative measures prior to or during
intercourse, some methods can be used within a short time after unprotected intercourse or failed use
of birth control, which are usually referred to as emergency contraceptive. Within the last 30 years, a
number of approaches, which seem safe and efficacious, have been developed as this method,
including the popular plan B pill. In 1999 the FDA approved the Plan B pill, which was the first
progestin only dedicated emergency contraceptive product. The plan B pill was developed by Teva
Pharmaceutical Industries, in which the Women s Capital Corporation (WCC), a privately controlled
company, organized in 1997, collaborated to introduce Plan B to the U.S. and Canadian industries, and
to develop other needed reproductive health products for women. WCC s efforts to promote and sell
Plan B exemplified a contemporary public/private sector partnership in areas such as health products
for women. Initially, Plan B was only available by prescription through Planned Parenthood clinics
and other health care providers listed on the 24 hour Emergency Contraception Hotline, as well as the

The objective of the experiment was to synthesize a sample of cyclohexene by using an E1 reaction,
which involved cyclohexanol.
Procedure Part A Preparation of Cyclohexene
Prior to beginning the procedure, a distillation setup was constructed in order to prepare for a later
step in the procedure; a diagram of the construction was included in Figure 1.A. In a clean 50 mL
Erlenmeyer flask, 5 mL of water were placed, and, with extreme caution, 4.0 mL (8.0 g, 0.08 mol) of
concentrated sulfuric acid were added to the flask while swirling; it was emphasized that this acid can
be highly corrosive and should be handled with care, especially while pouring it into the water1. It
was observed that the flask began to heat up as the acid was added, and began to release a gas for a
brief moment. Afterwards, the diluted acid was allowed to cool to about room temperature and 3.2 mL
(3.0 g, 0.030 mol) of cyclohexanol were added to the mixture. The contents of the flask were carefully
transferred to a 25 mL round bottom flask that was attached to the distillation setup. The contents were
distilled at a steady pace, making sure that all the junctions and flasks were clasped appropriately in
order to avoid any accidents. The distillation was allowed to continue until the liquid found in the
starting flask turned black and began to emit a white gas. It was noted that at around 53 °C distillate
began to form, and at around 92 °C the liquid turned black. Approximately 2.8 mL of distillate

The Concept of Family Health in Nursing Practice
Family Health
How does a family work as a system in promoting the health of its members? Family is playing an
important part in helping to ensure that patients are fit and following the advice of health care
professionals. This is because the family is a foundation of support for everyone. At the same time,
members can learn about what is impacting their loved one and what kind of procedures need to be
followed. When this happens, there will be higher amounts of compliance as they will ensure that the
patient continues to stick with their treatment protocol. (Saleeba, 2009) Moreover, the family
understands the specifics about the individual s condition and their daily routines. This can help health
care professionals to decide if the person is following the proper steps in their therapy. Once this takes
place, is the point that health care professionals can make adjustments to reflect changing realities.
Those patients, who have their families involved, will be able to receive better care by ensuring that
nothing is overlooked. This is the point that physicians will have a more complete picture surrounding
their underlying levels of health. (Saleeba, 2009) Evidence of this can be seen with observations from
Saleeba (2008) who said, The family should be updated continuously about the patient s condition and
procedures. Keeping the family members well informed an including them in procedures can have a
dramatic effect on decreasing stress. Studies are being

The Epicureans By Their Writings Have Seized The Whole Of...

In the Tusculan Disputations, Cicero wrote The Epicureans by their writings have seized the whole of
Italy. Indeed, this often neglected or dismissed branch of philosophy played a great role in the
development of the culture of Rome through the late Republican period. It can prove difficult to find
examples of noteworthy Epicureans holding political office compared with their polemic counterparts,
the Stoics, largely because of the Epicurean teaching [one must] live without being noticed. Still, there
are a few who hold public office despite their Epicurean beliefs, or perhaps more appropriately,
continue to hold Epicurean beliefs despite the social expectation to aspire to public office. From the
writings and of Cicero and Lucretius, we can come to understand the immense impact Epicureanism
had on Roman culture.
The first chronicled Roman who was classically trained in Epicureanism is Titus Albucius, a member
of the upper class living around 100 B.C.E. who spent his youth studying philosophy and oration in
Athens. Albucius grew fond of Epicureanism and declared himself a devotee of the school; however,
after reaching adulthood, Albucius returned to Rome to follow the cursus honorum, eventually ending
up as praetor of a province. After being exiled, Albucius went back to Athens and fully dedicated
himself to Epicureanism by abandoning the political life entirely. Indeed, a seemingly innocuous

We Real Cool Analysis
Poetry is comprised of many forms and within each form, poets have created; stanzas, rhythm, images,
symbolism, meter and meanings. Readers must read each poem and begin inductive reasoning to
understand what is written. In using this reasoning, only then can the poem be explained. There are
many different types of forms and a ballad is one of these poetic forms. It is usually made up of a
basic construction of quatrain stanzas. The lines contain rhyme, and generally tell a story that can be
compared to a song. In analyzing, Peter and John by Elinor Wylie, We Real Cool by Gwendolyn

Why Do Advertisers Use Weasel Words
Phrases and words are utterly powerful. Whichever words or phrases you decide to say can impact
amazing results. Language is a powerful source of symbols for us to communicate to others. Many
people receive advantages and disadvantages for what they say. A few times every month you would
see the president present a speech to the public. The president does not write up a speech by himself,
he has a speechwriter to fulfill that job. His speechwriter gets paid a great amount of money just to put
together a few words and phrases that he/she knows will bring great results or poor results. Words
influence people every day. Advertising is the act of producing advertisements to sell products or any

Weasel words are used to evade or retreat from a direct or forthright statement or position. Most
advertisers use these words to portray to their audience that their products are great without any actual

product will assist with a consumer s problem but there is no legitimate answer that it actually will.
They want the consumers to believe that it will satisfy their needs. In a Trident Gum commercial, the
advertisers used a common weasel word to prove the need of their product. The commercial begins
with the speaker stating that four out of five dentists would recommend Trident to their patients who

the dentists are voting, a squirrel jumps through the window and sneaks its way to the fifth dentist.
While the fifth dentist starts to say its vote, the squirrel goes through his pants and bite his genitals

  • 2. Childhood Obesity Epidemic, By The Encyclopedia Of Science For the past few decades, the dire situation of obesity in America has gotten worse and is now affecting new generations of young Americans. Every day the poor eating and physical choices that children make can lead them to a life with diabetes, heart disease, and cancers. The unhealthy lifestyle that children have is influenced by their parents and the society that surrounds them. This unprecedented surge of poor lifestyle choices has lead to an epidemic that young children are now facing. Ultimately, the health of young children is at stake. Being obese is not just being overweight, but being overweight at an unhealthy level. The way to classify someone as overweight is by using their body mass index, better known as BMI. If someone has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the Encyclopedia of Science s article, obesity is affecting any child from any ethnicity or race, age, economic backing, or region. Hispanic children, African American children, native American children, and any other children with bad quality eating habits, especially in the south, are at an exceptionally higher risk. The southern part of America is known for their comfort food, which is extremely fattening, and is the reason why children living in the south have an exceptionally higher chance of becoming obese. In the African American communities, as well as the Hispanic communities, nearly 40% of the children are overweight or obese. Children who are at a lower economic standing may have a higher chance of developing obesity, but that doesn t mean wealthier children are immune. The site, Let s Move states that without solving this issue, 1/3 of all children born after 2000 will suffer from diabetes at one point in their lives. Statistics from the Encyclopedia of Life Science show that this number is still growing and is being compared to the 7% of obese children and 5% obese teens in the 1980 s, to show the changes needed to be done in society. More action, now more than ever, needs to be taken against obesity. Obese children risk developing cardiovascular problems, cancers and as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Democracy Of The United States Government Randy Rivas Political Science 1 O Regan Fall 2015 Voter Turnout In a democracy citizens are permitted to have a significant amount of influence on government through the election of government officials. This is known as Direct Democracy, which means that the citizens play a significant role on the laws and policies of the land. Although the liberty of voting is available, why is the voter turnout so low? Many other countries have a much larger vote turnout than the United States. The reason for this varies; some major points would be the Demographics, voting laws, and political favoritism/corruption that affect the voter turnout. When the people vote for a public figure they expect them to succumb to the will of the people, and not big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who campaign have a hard time reaching out to the young community. Most college students do not own a television set, therefore are not well aware of current political affairs. In part many young Americans feel that their vote does not matter, or that whatever they must vote for doesn t interest or affect them in any way. Older age groups that vote tend to be more educated on politics, because they tend to be much better educated. Ones views on politics can vary depending on the type of environment you grew up in. The agents of socialization in one s life play a big role on determining how one feels towards politics. Parental views on politics influence their children s future views on politics greatly. Ethnicity and socio economic status have a huge impact on the voter turnout. Political knowledge and perception is no different than the area you live in or the quality of food you eat, it s all based on wealth and social status. Those who make enough money to barely survive tend to have little to no knowledge on politics. These groups tend to be minority groups. The vast majority of groups that tend to vote are strictly but not definitively well educated white families. Although this is not always the case, certain ethnic groups and minority groups vote when they have interest in what they are voting for. For example, in the 2012 election with Obama, for the first time ever the overall black voter turnout exceeded that of the white voter turnout, the idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Chagas Disease Research Paper Disease will always be prevalent across the world, there is no place where disease is non existent and every single region across the world has its own varieties of diseases. Most of them are different, but they all have one thing in common, they destroy the life of a human by either bringing birth to acute symptoms or chronic ones and sometimes even death. Our focus though, will not be on every single region, but particularly in the tropics, home to malaria, hookworm, yellow fever, and most important of all Chagas disease. Chagas disease will be our only focus in the tropics and perhaps another day there will be time for the rest, but for now it will be Chagas. This disease has been neglected and at times thought of as weak in stature, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Malaria for example was given recognition and Chagas disease was distorted as a myth; which lead to a more dominant spread of T.cruzi throughout the Latin America countries. Reason being why it was no longer believed was the fact that there were significant problems trying to diagnose Chagas disease in the chronic stages. This meant that men like Kraus believed that Chagas disease was not the culprit behind the chronic stages and even later named the disease instead as parasitic thyroiditis (Armus, 82). Rudolf Kraus was an experienced bacteriologist that came from Europe and moved later to Argentina. He was very jealous of Chagas and influenced others to betray him and instead provide information for Kraus. People distorted much of Chagas work and it must be noted that his own friends as well turned their back against him and feed jealous enemies like Kraus information about the disease and the several gaps that Chagas had yet to figure out. Although Chagas battled enemies such as Kraus, Figuerido, and others, he won and kept his recognition, but what happened was the fact that people no longer viewed him as having ... • 5. Low Voter Turnout In Canada Historically Canadians have been participating less in elections for many years. The highest turnout rate was 79.4% in 1958. The 2011 elections was the first in many years in which Canadians were concerned enough to go vote, 61.4% participated which shows an increase from the 2008 elections in which only 59.1% participated. The decline in voter turnout is mostly awarded to the younger generations. They represent the category of people that participate the least in elections. During the 2011 elections, 38.8% of people aged 18 to 24 voted, which is an augmentation from the 37.8% in the 2008 elections (Barnes, Andre, and Erin Virgint, 2010). A History of Product Placement in Film and Television A History of Product Placement in Film and Television Peter Rush Product placement in the marketing world has become more and more evident in the past few decades. More specifically, product placement in the movie industry has been one of the most successful ways to advertise products. Oftentimes, products are associated with a film, or vice versa. Such is the case with Reese s Pieces candies and Stephen Spielberg s film, E.T . While it is a very expensive way of companies to advertise their brands, it is one that pays off immensely if executed properly. In the United States, cinematic art and business intertwined in the 1910s and 1920s as manufacturers and government distributed advertising films that combined drama and commerce to the small town circuit. Producers of these films included International Harvester, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the YMCA. From 1914 to 1921, Ford Motor Company created a series of newsreels titled Ford Animated Weekly and Ford Educational Weekly. A typical serial included Model T races and news footage that sometimes incorporated Henry Ford meeting with government officials. These advertising films were distributed at low cost to exhibitors and found an early approval in small towns, with Ford claiming a viewership of 3 million per week (Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, 2006). A main problem that many believed that was resolved with the end of the Mexican War was the redistribution. Sadly, this phase of the war never reached Chiapas. For decades they were living in poverty and working for others. Consequently, many indigenous people ultimately revolted with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), because it made the peasants lose more money than they originally had. With the Ejercito Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN) it demonstrated that the indigenous people were proud of their roots and that they would do anything to keep their dignity even if they were still peasants. MEXICAN REVOLUTION The start of the Mexican Revolution came about with the dictatorship of Porfiro Diaz. Pope John Paul II broke with tradition and a 2000 year old doctrine when he prayed with pagans, heretics, and other religions around the world. With not only a lecture on the interreligious experience of the Assisi Day of Prayer, the pope stated, There are undeniably differences [in religions] that reflect the genius and spiritual riches that God has given to the peoples (John Paul II, The Meaning of the Assisi Day, 562). His statement is extraordinary in that the pope is not only affirming that other religions have the presence of God, but also that some religious differences could be due to other religions having spiritual riches given by God that are unique to them. The Dichotomy Of The Role Of Women In Agamemnon To the outside, modern day, western observer, the role of women in Agamemnon makes a pretty clear mark as to how the Ancient Greeks viewed women. Notably, that they seem to hate them. Of the five women who are mentioned at all in the story, only one is portrayed positively, and even she is murdered and then only praised and remembered for her beautiful virginity, and her voice. Repeatedly throughout the play the women are demonized for things that are not necessarily their fault, and often times are the fault of the men who blame them. While these women can be less than morally pure, a strangely large amount of blame and doubt gets placed upon them while men are mourned for heroic deeds and have their misdeeds overlooked. This dichotomy between the two genders is perhaps clearest between the title character Agamemnon and his wife, Clytemnestra, but can be seen in sharp detail through the combination of all the women. In the case of Clytemnestra, there is no doubt that she was wrong in cheating although it was likely that her husband did as well. However, one of her first interactions on stage is of the chorus doubting her for seemingly no reason, until she got incredibly graphic with her details which caused them to exclaim how much her words were like a man s, and then believe her. The thesis of this article was that the Catholic Church s teachings were affected by the old fashioned, cultural belief that physical virginity must be saved for marriage. Greeley s purpose of the article is to show the difference between physical virginity and sexual love. The first argument that Greeley makes is that, although a practiced norm in the Catholic culture, physical virginity is not part of the Catholic Christian heritage. The next argument that Greeley makes is that young couples are taught not to have physical relations with each other until marriage. They are taught that they can only hold hands and can only have quick kisses. Then when they do get married, they are expected to, leap from a relationship in which there was no expressed passion to one in which passion was totally expressed within the space of twenty four hours . Comparing Jane Eyre And The Horse Dealer s Daughter Women as Outsiders: A Comparison Of Jane Eyre and The Horse Dealer s Daughter Women are often portrayed as a marginalized other or outsider in literature, reflecting the degree to which they are outside the traditional patriarchal concepts of authority and power as well as (for much of Western history) outside the practical and legal means of self sufficiency and self direction. As the times have shifted, the particular perspective and definition of women as outsiders has also changed, as can be seen in a comparison of the central figures in Charlotte Bronte s Victorian era novel Jane Eyre and D. H. Lawrence s more modern short story The Horse Dealer s Daughter. Interestingly, both heroines are seen as similarly detached from traditional power structures, yet the degree to which Jane distances herself through her morality actually gives her power, while the increasing amorality of the times leads Mabel (Lawrence s protagonist) down a path of deeper despair, self directed though it may be. In Jane Eyre, the title female is an outcast almost everywhere she goes, from an orphan in the home of her uncle s family to the school at Lowood where she eventually finds a niche but where she does not truly belong and finally to Thornfield Hall, where she fits in all too well but finds that her familiarity is ultimately inappropriate. Now said in the paragraphs before, the multiple women who accused Bill Cosby of sexual abuse and misconduct provided different stories with multiple similarities in them. This on its own is just a very obvious clue to the fact that he has sexually abused these women, along with how many stories there are. The first allegation was made by Sunni Welles in March of 2015 stating that, Cosby raped her twice when she was an aspiring singer in the mid 1960s by drugging her drink (Littlefield). The second allegation was made by Kristina Ruehli and she stated that It was all foggy, and I woke up in the bed. I found myself on the bed, and he had his shirt off. He had unzipped his pants. (Littlefield). The third allegation was made by Linda Joy Traitz, she was just a waitress at a restaurant that happened to be co owned by Bill Cosby; she stated that he drugged and groped her in his car. Many of which rapidly developed from around 1450 to 1750. Although they can be similar, there are certain factors that can distinguish one empire from another. Furthermore, European empires were fundamentally different than the other ones at the time because of the approach they took in conquering new lands, dealing with the conquered people, and in their results of conquest. European empires focused primarily on global expansion whereas the other empires expanded and conquered adjacently. The Spanish, British, and the Portuguese traveled overseas to extend their borders. The Spanish conquered the Aztecs and moved throughout the Americas, the British honed in on northern parts of America, and the Portuguese moved into Brazil. The British utilized mainly horses which were pivotal in aiding conquests along with slaves from Africa who helped produce the first modern industry: sugar. Also, the British first formed their state then looked to expand. Thus, they would have a good structure before doing so. Europeans were able to accomplish these feats due to their innovations regarding the sea including mapmaking, sailing techniques, and ship designs. Other empires, most notably the Russians, expanded much closer to home. Noted as a regional power rather than a global one, Russia entered Siberia and came into contact with Eastern Europe and Asia. • 31. The Plan B Pill As attested by the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, women have the right to control the number and timing of their pregnancies. In order to exercise this right, women throughout the world need access to the different types of contraceptives, as well as to safe abortion services. While most contraceptives are used as preventative measures prior to or during intercourse, some methods can be used within a short time after unprotected intercourse or failed use of birth control, which are usually referred to as emergency contraceptive. Within the last 30 years, a number of approaches, which seem safe and efficacious, have been developed as this method, including the popular plan B pill. In 1999 the FDA approved the Plan B pill, which was the first progestin only dedicated emergency contraceptive product. The plan B pill was developed by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, in which the Women s Capital Corporation (WCC), a privately controlled company, organized in 1997, collaborated to introduce Plan B to the U.S. and Canadian industries, and to develop other needed reproductive health products for women. WCC s efforts to promote and sell Plan B exemplified a contemporary public/private sector partnership in areas such as health products for women. Initially, Plan B was only available by prescription through Planned Parenthood clinics and other health care providers listed on the 24 hour Emergency Contraception Hotline, as well as the Emergency ... Procedure Part A Preparation of Cyclohexene Prior to beginning the procedure, a distillation setup was constructed in order to prepare for a later step in the procedure; a diagram of the construction was included in Figure 1.A. In a clean 50 mL Erlenmeyer flask, 5 mL of water were placed, and, with extreme caution, 4.0 mL (8.0 g, 0.08 mol) of concentrated sulfuric acid were added to the flask while swirling; it was emphasized that this acid can be highly corrosive and should be handled with care, especially while pouring it into the water1. It was observed that the flask began to heat up as the acid was added, and began to release a gas for a brief moment. Afterwards, the diluted acid was allowed to cool to about room temperature and 3.2 mL (3.0 g, 0.030 mol) of cyclohexanol were added to the mixture. The contents of the flask were carefully transferred to a 25 mL round bottom flask that was attached to the distillation setup. The contents were distilled at a steady pace, making sure that all the junctions and flasks were clasped appropriately in order to avoid any accidents. The distillation was allowed to continue until the liquid found in the starting flask turned black and began to emit a white gas. It was noted that at around 53 °C distillate began to form, and at around 92 °C the liquid turned black. Approximately 2.8 mL of distillate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Concept of Family Health in Nursing Practice Family Health How does a family work as a system in promoting the health of its members? Family is playing an important part in helping to ensure that patients are fit and following the advice of health care professionals. This is because the family is a foundation of support for everyone. At the same time, members can learn about what is impacting their loved one and what kind of procedures need to be followed. When this happens, there will be higher amounts of compliance as they will ensure that the patient continues to stick with their treatment protocol. (Saleeba, 2009) Moreover, the family understands the specifics about the individual s condition and their daily routines. This can help health care professionals to decide if the person is following the proper steps in their therapy. Once this takes place, is the point that health care professionals can make adjustments to reflect changing realities. Those patients, who have their families involved, will be able to receive better care by ensuring that nothing is overlooked. This is the point that physicians will have a more complete picture surrounding their underlying levels of health. (Saleeba, 2009) Evidence of this can be seen with observations from Saleeba (2008) who said, The family should be updated continuously about the patient s condition and procedures. Keeping the family members well informed an including them in procedures can have a dramatic effect on decreasing stress. Studies are being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Epicureans By Their Writings Have Seized The Whole Of... Mitchol Dunham Master Katy Chenoweth Classical Humanities 2200 30 July 2015 In the Tusculan Disputations, Cicero wrote The Epicureans by their writings have seized the whole of Italy. Indeed, this often neglected or dismissed branch of philosophy played a great role in the development of the culture of Rome through the late Republican period. It can prove difficult to find examples of noteworthy Epicureans holding political office compared with their polemic counterparts, the Stoics, largely because of the Epicurean teaching [one must] live without being noticed. Still, there are a few who hold public office despite their Epicurean beliefs, or perhaps more appropriately, continue to hold Epicurean beliefs despite the social expectation to aspire to public office. From the writings and of Cicero and Lucretius, we can come to understand the immense impact Epicureanism had on Roman culture. The first chronicled Roman who was classically trained in Epicureanism is Titus Albucius, a member of the upper class living around 100 B.C.E. who spent his youth studying philosophy and oration in Athens. Albucius grew fond of Epicureanism and declared himself a devotee of the school; however, after reaching adulthood, Albucius returned to Rome to follow the cursus honorum, eventually ending up as praetor of a province. After being exiled, Albucius went back to Athens and fully dedicated himself to Epicureanism by abandoning the political life entirely. Indeed, a seemingly innocuous ... Readers must read each poem and begin inductive reasoning to understand what is written. In using this reasoning, only then can the poem be explained. There are many different types of forms and a ballad is one of these poetic forms. It is usually made up of a basic construction of quatrain stanzas. The lines contain rhyme, and generally tell a story that can be compared to a song. In analyzing, Peter and John by Elinor Wylie, We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, Riverbanks Blues by Sterling A.
