I. The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of love

lower your blood levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, raising your risk of cardiovascular problems and

I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self
made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made man
states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good entrepreneurial spirit.
This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the illusion of an America where
anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background could become the next Steve Jobs or
Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at least in part, be attributed to an
economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent argument on how individualism can
harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the self made man can first be seen during the
Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift away from the idea that they aren t in control of
their circumstances, which were instead dependent on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular
model of self made success which inspires entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of
the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin for his ambition and aimed to amass wealth from Franklin s
ideas of self improvement. However, Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of

Throughout the novel, Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel it introduces the characters Pi a human boy
who is stranded at sea and Richard Parker the tiger, who accompanies him on his journey. The story is
centered upon Pi and how he was able to heroically survive 227 days at sea and the struggles he had to
overcome. In the story, faith plays a significant role in Pi s personality and demonstrates how he was
able to overcome his hardships through faith. From this, reader s can evaluate their own faith based on

Plethora of instructional formats can be used by teachers when teaching children with autism. Some of
the instructional formats commonly used with children with ASD include small group instruction, one
on one instruction, peer mediated instruction, discrete trial and direct instruction. Use of reinforcement
can be highly effective when delivering instruction to children with autism. Several forms of
reinforcement can be utilized to increase desired behavior, such as use of computers, edibles, toys,

is a perfect mix of catchy rock songs, real life problems and experiences with exciting characters and

The Aryan National Liberation Front
Arthur Buzz Hirsch, a St. Joseph News Press reporter, conducted a background investigation on the
Aryan National Liberation Front (ANLF). This group is one of white supremacist and anti government
ideology. This group, according to confidential sources, is involved in harassment and tax evasion.
Two incidents, a bombing on February 12th (which two men have been arrested for) and a shooting
that took place on March 10th, are believed to be connected to the ANLF. However, a confidential
sources says the ANLF has nothing to do with the shooting. Recently, police and a member of the
prosecutor s office showed up at the News Press offices with a warrant, demanding Hirsch to turn over
all notes, research materials, and recordings relating to the ANLF. Also, he was urged to identify his

Persuasive Speech On School Lunches
A healthy, delicious, lunch is what many schools strive for, however many don t follow suit in the best
way possible. I am writing to you, Mr. Dawson, to address the fact that Ronald E. McNair High
School fails to provide their students with wholesome meals. As you may know, the Lodi Unified
School District has food services that promotes and brings attention to our freshly prepared school
meals made from California grown products (School Nutrition And Fitness). To promote even
healthier eating, McNair actively participates in the USDA case study, inviting mobile carts to bring
lunch closer to the students (School Nutrition And Fitness). Even with additional efforts put forth,
students still find the lunches unappetizing (due to low grade food quality) and prefer to eat other
alternatives.
According to Alice Waters and Katrina Heron, authors of No lunch left behind an article published in
The New York Times on February 19, 2009, the National School Lunch Program is a poor investment.
The authors informed the public that of $9 billion, very little actually goes into the food. They demand
fresh alternatives provided by local farmers and refine school equipment, to instead prepare fresh
nutritious meals for the school. Although we may produce some meals at the school, there are still
ways to improve the equipment to better serve the students. Education about sensible eating is also
recommended, as it will teach students a nourishing lifestyle outside of school. With a well
constructed plan that upgrades the quality of the food and food education, it will surely make our
school healthier!

Patients experiencing chest pain require immediate assessment, including a twelve lead ECG within
the time frame of ten minutes, will provide vital evidence of a cardiac, plueretic or musculoskeletal
event (Acute Coronary Care Clinical care standards 2014). Chest pain is posed as life threatening has
many definitions ranging from either stabbing, dull, crushing or burning. In certain cases, pain travels
up the neck, the jaw, can radiate to the back or down one or both arms. Many different problems can
cause chest pain and it can be difficult to determine the exact cause of chest pain (Burman et al ,
2011). Patients experiencing chest pain is symptoms consistent with, myocardial ischemia and is a
common reason for presenting to ED (Pub Med Central, 2010). Chest pain presentations are common
ED presentation, however, visual miss judgment of initial clinical assessment in asymptomatic signs,
age, gender and no medical history, patients may not always be taken seriously for possible acute
coronary syndrome (SA Health 2009). This is supported by Atzema (2012) study, indicating many
EDs don t always obtain ECGs at triage and 50% of patients presenting with upper epigastric /chest
pain are given a low triage priority rating. Supporting this, Emergency Severity Index (ESI) (2012)

Romesh Gunesekera; the author of the novel Reef (1994), begins the story with a young boy by the
