Social Media Anxiety
The Relationship of Social Media and Social Anxiety The ever growing world of social media is a
network of sites and websites designs to have individuals share pictures and ideas will all their friends
instantly. The popularity of these sites bursted right out of the gates and are used by billions of people
every day. While such sites may appear harmless, these interactive platforms are causing an immense
rise in social anxiety. These social networks are actually damaging the mental health of many users.
Over fifteen million people in the United States are diagnosed with social anxiety, and in today s
world the number of causes linked to social media is on the rise. Most of these cases are in individuals
starting at thirteen, but the ages rage significantly. According to The American Association of
Depression and Anxiety social anxiety can be defined as, The extreme fear of being scrutinized and
judged by others in social or performance situations. This type of anxiety is closely linked with feeling
of loneliness; and this loneliness only intensifies the feelings of anxiety and paranoia. Social paranoia
stems from the fear rejection. These individuals are terrified they will humiliate or embarrass
themselves, so they simply withdraw. This specificity type of anxiety interferes significantly with
daily routines, occupational performance, or social life, making it difficult to complete school,
interview and get a job, create true friendships and romantic relationships.

How Did Religion Lead To The Rise Of The American Revolution
The foremost denominations within America before the country s independence were
Congregationalists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Methodist and Baptists. These are referred to
as the orthodox denominations. Roman Catholics were in a small community in Maryland as well has
Catholic Indian missions. However, the Congregationalists, Anglicans, Quakers and Presbyterians
were the raining sects in America. During the Revolution, including the Confederation years, church
attendance dramatically dropped. The Enlightenment consisted of multiple philosophers that were able
to convince Americans that thinking on one s own was enough for truth and reason. The philosophers
stated how the Bible was a book of contradictions; with its wisdom, in addition to mythology and
irrational nonsense. After the revolution, the Anglican Church took another hit with decline in
membership. Most of their ministers had been Loyalist to Great Britain during the American ... Show

A Boston congregation voted in 1785, stating that the ideology of the Trinity was somewhat
polytheistic. Leading to their belief in irrationality. God was the only worship worthy character. Jesus
Christ was considered a Saintly teacher. William Ellery Channing, a Congregational minister,
proclaimed himself a Unitarian in 1819 as well as declined the Calvinist belief in an angry God. God
was the Holy Father with a love like one. He wanted humans to improve, live through His word, and
was willing to punish when necessary. With Unitarianism came Universalism. Both of these sects
illuminated puzzling texts or doctrines. Members saw being moral and being godly as equal. However,
the social classes of both denominations were polar opposites. The Universalists consisted of the

students say they have had sex; and 15 percent of high school students have had sex with four or more
partners during their lifetime, (NCSL). In our society today sex is a very open subject and is being
observed by young adults in everyday life. Walking down the street we see half naked women

From experience, at the age of ten I was taught by my mother that I should never engage in sex unless
I was married and ready to procreate. At the age of twelve I was sexually active. By the age of fifteen I
was pregnant with my first son and becoming a single mother at a very early age. When you are young
and curious and want to know why something is a certain way, you look for answers and research as
much as you can to get a full idea about what something is. So when children are taught that sex is bad
without given any background information to why or what it is, they tend to look deeper and start to
engage in the activities to test the water and see if what they are taught is true. Rebellion is a very
common among children and teenagers, and to be forced into believing that something is bad and
harmful for you, just to find out the truth about sex, will eventually cause a stir and up rise of many
young adults. More teens are learning sex from the media or from their friends instead of from their
parents or a sexual education class taught in schools. Nearly three fourths of television shows contains

Explain What Is More Important To You And Quality Of Life
What is More Important to You, Quality of Life or Quantity of Life?
Tracy Cusatis

Introduction Benjamin Franklin said it best when he said, In this world nothing can be said to be
certain, except death and taxes. Most people have no problem talking about taxes but death is a taboo
subject. Death knows no age, ethnic group or gender. It cannot be avoided. Modern medicine has
slowed the walked towards death but has not changed the outcome of everyone will eventually die.
Death and dying are something the human species all have in common across the world, yet not
enough conversation is had on end of life decision making. When there is a conversation it is often too
late and families are at odds with each other deciding what they think is best for the person near the

The study was completed at nursing facilities for two reasons, one, because with the passage of the
PSDA hospitals and nursing homes were required on admission to inquire about advance directives in
place for each patient and two, skilled nursing facility patients are admitted from hospitals and there
are at least two opportunities, at the hospital admission and the nursing facility admission to inquire
about advanced directives. (Van Leuven, 2010, p. 3128). During a six week period chart reviews and
observations of admission interviews of the 272 residents, a full 44% entered the skilled nursing

concluded that the current law is ineffective and more conversation needs to take place about end of

Andre The Last Of The Great Humanist Architects
In the past, many men in the field of architecture have become famous for their works, especially in
the time of the Renaissance in Italy. These men included Filippo Brunelleschi, Leon Battista Alberti,
and, perhaps the most important of all, Andrea Palladio. Widely regarded as the most influential and
famous architect in the Western world, Andrea Palladio was the last of the great Humanist architects
(Trachtenburg, 2002, p. 311). Since it is impossible to encompass all of Palladio s accomplishments in
one single essay, this paper will aim to give a detailed overview of Andrea s early life, influences,
greatest works, and his Palladian following.

Trissino became Palladio s mentor and patron. Seeing Palladio as a man with great spirit and
exceptional aptitude for science and mathematics, Trissino also encouraged Palladio to study humanist
values, such as the arts, music, and philosophy. In fact, at this time, music was the principal art
(Tavernor, 1991, p. 20). It was also at this time that Trissino began to introduce Palladio to the works
and teachings of Vitruvius, a Roman architect, writer, and civil engineer of the 1st Century B.C.E.
Vitruvius had urged that art should reflect nature, For Nature leads to Beauty, which is fundamental to
the practice of architecture, once Utility and Strength have been achieved in a building (Tavernor,
1991, p. 12)
Palladio s studies of Vitruvius began in the Villa Trissino at the large estate of Cricoli. As is implied by
the name, this building was designed and owned by Trissino to be a sort of get away from the public
world. Cricoli was a vast country retreat, which made it ideal for study and reflection. What s more
interesting about the building is that it has actually been cited as Palladio s first building, but this
could not be the case. According to Bruce Boucher in his book Andrea Palladio: The Architect in His
Time, If Trissino had employed the Pedemuro workshop to execute his design, then Andrea would
have participated as a junior member of the firm. This means that although Palladio may have worked
on the building, he did not have a hand

Environmental Issues Surrounding The Use Of Biofuels
A biofuels is a fuel that is produced through biological processes, such as agriculture rather than a fuel
produced by geological processes. Hence a biofuel is a fuel which is gained from the living matter. A
biofuel is a hydrocarbon that is made from a living organism hence we humans end up using this to
power something. In a short amount of time, if a hydrogen fuel is produced from organic matter hence
this is known as a biofuel being produced. Biodiesel is an fuel which is similar to fossil diesel.
Therefore biofuel is any fuel from which energy is gained through a process of biological carbon

Biodiesel has many environmentally impacts. One of the main benefits is that it can be described as
carbon neutral. Therefore this helps me understand that the fuel produces has no net output of carbon
in the form of carbon dioxide. The reason for this effect to occur is that when the oil crops grows it
gains the same amount of CO2 as is released when the fuel is combusted. However this is not exact as
CO2 is released during the production of the fertilizer require to fertilize the fields in which the oil
crops grow in. fertilizer production is not the only source of which is attached to the production of
biodiesel, other sources include the process which is called esterification process. No matter what all
these processes requires an energy input either in the form of electricity or from a

Odysseus As An Epic Journey In The Odyssey By Homer s Odyssey
Influenced by the title of The Odyssey by Homer, an Odyssey is defined as an epic journey. The
Odyssey, by Homer and translated by Robert Fagles, explores the epic journey of the title character
Odysseus on his voyage home from the Trojan War. However, the first four books of The Odyssey
focus on Odysseus s son, Telemachus, and his journey to become the true son of Odysseus (2.2). This
role requires Telemachus to emulate the qualities that Odysseus held while the king of Ithaca prior to

Aegyptius, the father of a soldier who fought alongside Odysseus and died, spoke first stating Not

indicates that in the twenty years that Odysseus has been gone, Telemachus has failed to take charge
until now. In this meeting, Telemachus demands that the suitors cease their efforts to win over
Penelope. Ultimately, his demands have no results, but the attempt is still something new. This change
in behavior proves character development into the true son of Odysseus. These situations that
Telemachus is placed in force Telemachus to establish authority, thus helping him become the true son
of Odysseus. Telemachus s voyage also promotes growth by helping him to attain courage.
Telemachus s first destination on his journey is to Pylos. Here Telemachus is to speak with King
Nestor to learn more about his father s fate. When Telemachus and his crew arrive at Pylos he
becomes very nervous about the task in front of him. He expresses his concerns to Athena saying,

seems too difficult, then I will ask e mail my instructors and let he or she know that I am having
difficulty and that I need help. If I am feeling overwhelmed about school, I will seek the help and
advice of my academic counselor to help me come up with a solution to help me feel relaxed and not

at GCU.
After all of this being said, I believe that I am a D1 in the development level, which is The

committed to doing my job if I were to have a certain position or even as a student in school on certain

Right now I consider myself a very curious, inexperienced person who does quite have the skills

I will learn to develop and learn more and more skills in the near future.

The Role Of Artillery In The Battle Of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg
Artillery has played a crucial role in many wars and battles throughout time. Specifically in the Battle
of Gettysburg, where artillery was used in all three days of battle alongside the infantry. During this
time period artillery often worked side by side with the infantry because the range of their big guns
limited them to only visible targets. Multiple types of artillery were used in this battle, the use of
artillery in the Battle of Gettysburg was what ultimately lead to a victory for the Union and a second
failed attempt to invade the North for the Confederacy.
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought between Union forces lead by Maj. Gen. George Meade (Army
of Potomac) and the Confederates lead by Gen. Robert E. Lee (Army of Northern Virginia). Not long
after Lee s victory at Chancellorsville, VA, Lee lead his army through the Shenandoah Valley towards

Dartmouth College v. Woodward:
Dartmouth College is a private charter school. It was founded in 1769 in the state that would become
New Hampshire in 1776. Because of the creation of the state, Woodward, who was representing New
Hampshire, wanted to declare the school as public. The Supreme Court ruling upheld Dartmouth as
private. This was an important case because it meant that the state could not overrule private
institutions/ organizations. It created the American free enterprise system and allowed corporations to

Celtic Life Essay
Upon hearing the term Celtic, the first things that come to mind are the awe of their intricately

being fierce warriors and for their superstitious, nature centered religion. Celtic customs are still alive
and well in places like Ireland and the western reaches of Britain, but within this essay I shall explore
their origins and traditions. To start off, I will address the Tumulus peoples. They were among the
growing number of societies whom spoke dialects that branched off of Indo European; a language

From the very beginning the pro Celts established that their society was that of warriors, spending
much of their time warring with other groups and taking territories. They gained an advantage in their
warfare and trade alike once horses became commonly used in Celtic society. The increased mobility
put them a notch above the rest; helping the Celts in their invasions and defense. In the 7th and 8th
centuries BC, their boundaries kept pushing into lands which today would be called Germany and
France. Sizeable hilltop forts were built to maintain the people whom the Celts took power over.
As time went on and lands were conquered, typical burial procedures morphed. Because of having
such a war centered life, they began burying the dead with their swords to commemorate them for the
gritty effort they contributed to their people. Supplies such as wagons, good pottery, and food were
also stowed away with the bodies in order for them to have a well prepared afterlife. Chiefs, in
particular, were buried with special bronze urns and multiple swords. Towards the 8th century BC, as
the Iron Age dawned, warriors began to be buried with sturdier iron weapons. Wooden chambers
replaced cremation urns more and more often as the 7th century moved into the 6th century BC. Items
such as swords and eating implements were still included. In some burial

The Theory Of Self Defense
Self defense is described in the dictionary as; the act of defending one s person when physically
attacked, as by countering blows or overcoming an assailant ( self defense, n.d.). The concept of self
defense appears well defined; however, the tactics allowed to protect oneself have evolved just as
America has. As technology and weaponry advance, the need for clearer laws pertaining to the actions
allowed by an individual need to be reevaluated and clearly communicated. Starting in early colonial
times and moving through history, there is a great deal of differences between the self defense that was
once permitted and what is acceptable and tolerated today.
In early colonial times, Europeans began settling in America. During this time, there was a need for
self defense from both the Native Americans who were already settled on the new land and from the
European invaders who wanted to take it over. Self defense was originally termed the first law of
nature, and citizens were allowed to use deadly force whenever they judged it necessary. This practice
of self defense existed during a time where the individual was considered the ... judge, jury, and
executioner (Cornell, 2013). While being attacked, an individual was allowed to determine the course
of action he or she could take to protect himself or herself whether it be retreating or killing the
perpetrator. During this time, items such as one s own hands, bow and arrows, knives, and weapons of

Why Do Companies Use Competitive Bidding
Title: Explain why companies use competitive bidding and explain the advantage of using it.
Introduction
In the modern businesses, selecting the qualified suppliers becomes more and more important
activities for the companies. Lots of companies use the method of competitive bidding, which is
commonly used for selecting suppliers. Transparent procurement method in which bids from
competing contractors, suppliers, or vendors are invited by openly advertising the scope,
specifications, and terms and conditions of the proposed contract as well as the criteria by which the
bids will be evaluated [1]. In this essay, I will try to explain the reason and the advantage of the
companies using competitive bidding.

The reason of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The buyer controls the selection completely. It means the buyer s position is more positive and more
powerful.
ASL upgrade
The buyer commonly sends their contract to the existing supplier. It is very difficult for the other
qualified suppliers or small sellers to be noticed by the buyer. Competitive bidding can introduce more
potential suppliers into the AVL. There are more options for the buyer.
Win win relationship
Competitive bidding is easy to acquire the win win relationship between the buyers and bidders. Both
two sides satisfy the product price, and good for them to form the long term relationship.
Better information
Competitive bidding can produce the up to date development and value of the product.
Transparency
Transparent competitive bidding can make a fair bidding environment for all suppliers. No matter the
large suppliers or small suppliers, both of them have an opportunity to chase the contracts, awarding
the contract with competitive price.
Conclusion
Competitive bidding is the more efficient method for selecting qualified suppliers. It is base on the
quotation from potential suppliers to determine the final suppliers. The competitive prices conduce to
the buyer getting more options and reducing purchasing costs. It helps the buyer and supplier to

Essay On Whistleblower Protection Act
Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2012
Introduction
Often the debate arises of whether human beings are born with an innate sense of right from wrong
and most often the consensus is, yes. The later question might then be, what makes a person question
doing the right thing? In the reality of someone who may be labeled a whistleblower, apprehension to
report wrongdoings may reasonably come from fear of retaliation. Particularly when the wrong doing
is occurring within the federal government and/or secret intelligence community. Who will stand up to
these powers and what protection can policy afford those that take the ultimate risk in doing the right
thing by unveiling the crimes of waste, fraud, and abuse within our government ... Show more content

Human Fascination with the Stars
Humans have been mesmerized by the stars since the beginning of their existence. This fascination is
documented throughout history from simple drawings in the caves of Neanderthals to the great minds
of Copernicus, Galileo, and Ptolemy, leading to today s massive research institutions such as the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (better known as NASA). The concept of time itself is
credited to the understanding of the universe. Our race s vast determination to explore space has led to
the most remarkable scientific discoveries and technological advancements. This willingness to push
boundaries in notably seen in NASA s Apollo 11 mission, where scientists were able to put a man on
the moon in just eight few years. The expansion of aeronautical and space knowledge has become
increasingly relevant in recent times as environmentalists and statisticians give forecast to the Earth s
irreversible death. 80 percent of the earth s natural forests have been destroyed and further
calculations indicate that oil, the precious black gold, will run out as early as 2060 (Boss). Conditions
will only get worse because of inevitable population growth as well; our planet will eventually run out
of space. The Earth s resources are not infinite, therefore as the fate of the human race is
contemplated, the search for a new life supporting planet is the highest priority for space exploration.
Currently, over 7 billion people populate the earth with an average population growth

William Shakespeare s Henry The Iv
OPENING Heroism in Henry the IV has many different interpretations. The different views that
Shakespeare examines defines heroism based by one s individual idea of what heroism means to them
and by their values. Shakespeare also explores the two different origins of heroism one from a modern
era and the second from the current to earlier period of time. Shakespeare intertwines honour and
heroism into one. Hotspur portrays the idea of a dramatic hero in his time, this heroism is displayed by
his reputation and sanctity his name. Hotspur seeks self honour this is seen when his willingness to
lead a rebellion against the injustices he sees the King has made by leading men into battle and
sacrifice his life in the name of honour. Fueling the desire Hotspur seeks of an honorable man.
PARAGRAPH 1 Hotspur is seen honourably through the eyes King Henry the IV. In the opening
scene act 1, we are introduced to King Henry IV. During the King s speech to his people of the court,
we get a solid understanding of how Hotspur is seen as an honourable man. The King proclaims his
jealousy of Lord Northumberland for having Hotspur as an honourable son, Yea, there thou makest me
sad and makest me sin / In envy that my Lord Northumberland (77 78). For the King sees Hotspur as a
man of honour, A son who is the theme of honour s tongue (80), while he views is own son as a
disappointment, See riot and dishonour stain the brow / Of my young Harry (84 85). Honour is this act

In these cases, what would have been fair enough was to think a bit about how the portrayals of the
media would have had impacts on those people who were innocent.
Media reporting is also known as the shaping opinion device . When we talk about aborigines, people
have the tendency to link them with petrol sniffing, unemployment and drunkardness (Johnson, 2009).
People living in Australia or anywhere else are unaware or even know little about the lives, cultures
and attitudes about the aborigines in Australia. Thus media, as the ultimate power is there to shape the
opinions about the people through their provided images, symbols and messages; in a way to act the
voice of the voiceless aborigines (Johnson, 2009). People will base their opinions on what and how
the media is showing and broadcasting the news. Here the news angle is a good example to talk about.
The media need to know about proper story selection. They should not like portray aborigines only
when they are faulty and relate to it again when another aborigine has committed a crime. This will
make the rest of the world think that all aborigines are alike and they have only to do with crimes and
if we see to it, people have based their perceptions. Media and its power of shaping opinions in a way
socially construct images and the readers swallow those truths without knowing if it is the entire truth
or part of it.
A further example can be that of Louis St. John case study.

America s Rapid Industrialization During The Progressive Era
As America entered the 20th century, the country entered a time period known as the Progressive Era.
This era was one defined by political reform and social activism as well as myriad of problems arising
from America s rapid industrialization. During the Progressive era, America faced several
international, political, and social challenges that would set us on the road to the society in which we
now live. During the Depression of the 1890s, the National Association of Manufacturers argued that
the American economy could only expand with new foreign markets. They wanted President William
McKinley to bring American to every corner of the globe. Later on, there was a reemergence of Cuban
independence movement from Spain. President ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, over time government corruption became common. Reformers like Teddy Roosevelt in
Washington and Governor Hiram Johnson in California responded to an epidemic of political and
civic corruption by expanding the role of government in regulating the economy and in giving
citizens, for the first time, direct access to the legislative process. The federal income tax and the
direct election of senators, for example, were a part of the Populist program, and Prohibition grew
from a pre‐Civil War anti‐alcohol reform tradition. In addition, muckrakers, reform minded American
journalist who targeted corruption, made Americans aware of the serious failings in society and built
public support for change. Exposés such as Lincoln Steffens The Shame of the Cities (1904), an attack
on municipal corruption, and Ida Tarbell s History of the Standard Oil Company (1904), which
chronicled John D. Rockefeller s ruthless business practices, often first appeared in the new mass
circulation magazines, such as McClure s and Cosmopolitan, and were later published as books. The
muckrakers impact could be powerful, as in the case of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle (1906), a book
whose vivid descriptions of working and sanitary conditions in Chicago s meatpacking plants led
directly to federal laws regulating the industry. Other political reforms included the direct primary a

Examples Of Catholism In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
How is Catholicism critiqued in Chronicle of a Death Foretold through the character of Father Amador
In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, MĂĄrquez s characterisation of Father Carmen Amador, the town s
priest, as a ritualistic, incompetent and hypocritical man reveals and critiques the hollowness of
Colombian Catholicism. Though a minor character, Amador, a representation of the Church in a
predominantly Catholic society, is integral to an acute understanding of the novel.
Amador , a Spanish name that translates to lover of God , ostensibly portrays Father Amador as a
paragon of piety. In his role as a mediatory agent between man and God, the priest is responsible for
providing religious guidance and leadership in the town. Reflecting a consensus of his authority and
moral responsibility to prevent the murder, several townspeople send peremptory warnings of the twin
s threats to Father Amador. Yet despite this, Amador not only fails to save Santiago, but also
contributes to the absurdity of the murder, thereby exposing his name to be an ironic misnomer that
underscores his hypocrisy. Through Father Amador s neglect of moral obligation to prepare for the
bishop s arrival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amador confesses the autopsy was as if we killed him all over again after he was dead . This simile
emphasizes his brutality and condemns him of a sin similar to murder in severity. The comparison to a
second murder is strengthened by Father Amador s technical detailing of Santiago s wounds in the
autopsy report, which foreshadows the description of the twins knife thrusts in the novel s ending.
This contributes to the foretold nature of the murder and the ritualistic repetition of the crime, which
could have the effect of reducing the shock and brutality of the murder scene and therefore further
stressing the inhumanity of the autopsy and the guilt of Father

Green Walls Documentary Summary
What is the purpose of the documentary? The purpose of the documentary was about implementing
green walls and to show people how integrating nature within our infrastructure will improve the
quality of life for humans, nature and our planet. This film was also created to change our perspective
of how we think about reintegrating nature in dense and fully developed communities so that it not
only fits into the functionality of our infrastructure but it also can restore our plants and wildlife.
What is the main message the director wants to get across to the audience? The directors message was
that this is a movement that we all can afford to get behind. It will have nothing but positive

What did you expect to see? I expected to see the film focus more on rooftop gardens or community
gardens. I did not expect to see the whole country so involved in creating green walls and rooftop
gardens all over. I also did not expect to see how much thought went into planning their parks to make
sure that they somehow connect that way wildlife has the ability to move around without obstruction.
What questions did you have in mind about the subject? My only question and concern that I had
throughout the whole film was about how do they control pest? I know that in San Diego County that
anyone who has plants growing on their house or near the roof, they most likely will have rodent
issues. My question is, how can we create green walls or roof gardens in our communities without
having to fight of pest or have to use chemicals to drive them

Pi dispels the belief that animals in the wild are more free . He refutes that statement by explaining
animals in the wild do not have glamorous lives, but instead they feel starvation and have to forage for
food every night. Also, he mentions that most animals are habitual creatures. For example, many
things that are out of the ordinary will upset an animal, such as a hose in an unusual place or a puddle.
Finally, he states that, above all else, animals are territorial. An animal in a zoo is no worse off than an
animal in the wild because an animal in a zoo has a routine and unchallenged territory. He then
explains zoomorphism, which is the phenomenon of an animal accepting a different type of animal or
a human as one of their own kind. There are many examples of this, such as dogs accepting humans as
one of their kind. Pi also mentions some occurrences of zoomorphism from his father s zoo. The

Canadians take pride in many things whether it is a national sport, tradition or culture. But why do
Canadians turn a blind eye on Seal Hunting? Do they feel bad for the animals? Do they take seal

Essay Maggie Character Analysis from Everyday Use
Have you ever noticed how some people just stand out from the crowd? Like the clouds in the sky and
blades of grass, people are all different. Everyday Use by Alice Walker has a good example of an
interesting, unique character. Maggie is a young girl who is not only physically but also mentally
scarred. The way the burning house, her stuck up sister, and society affects Maggie makes her
different from everyone else. Maggie was so traumatized from her house burning down that she
became a timid and under appreciated little girl. Maggie is so self conscious that her mom says she

that burned the other house to the ground. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When she heard Dee s request, she slammed the door and stormed out of the kitchen. This shows that
Dee s arrogance left a negative influence on Maggie s personality. It s almost like Dee is trying to take
away any happiness life throws out at Maggie. Although Maggie was deformed and neglected, it
should not mitigate her need for joy in her life. Alice Walker juxtaposes Maggie with her sister, Dee,
to demonstrate how society denigrates not only African American women but women in general in the
1970s. Early on in the story, Maggie is described as nervous, hopelessly standing in the corner. Later
she is described as nearly hidden from view. On a metaphorical level, Maggie is the symbol of the
lack of power women held in the 1970s. She is the epitome of the silent female homemaker. On the
other hand, Dee is assertive, will look you right in the eye. She serves as a symbol of the free,
successful modern woman. However, her assertiveness might come off as cockiness, and too much
pride. By contrasting Maggie and Dee, Alice Walker is expressing both sides of the female role during
that time. All in all, Maggie is a very distinctive character. Her house burning to the ground, her
arrogant sister, and the effect society has on her explains that. Alice Walker has a very interesting way
of putting together two opposites to make one of their personalities very clear; Maggie s persona

Candide, a Novel by Voltaire
Candide Essay Voltaire was a philosopher that many people would not forget. Candide lives in the
castle of Baron Thunderten Tronckh in Westphalia. The circumstances that Candide was born was that
he combined a true judgement with simplicity of spirit. Voltaire satirizes the optimism espoused by the
philosophers of the Age of Enlightenment. This was a story of a young man s adventure throughout
the world and had seen many evil and disasters. Throughout his journey, he sticks to the teachings that
Pangloss taught him, believing that, All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds. Though
Voltaire was no pessimist, he refused to believe that what happens is always for the best. Throughout
Candide s adventure, Candide was got tricked into joining the Bulgarian Army by these two
uniformed men which they use two different techniques into tricking him. The first technique that the
uniformed men was that they invited Candide out to dinner and the second technique that the
uniformed men was that they were complimenting on his height and that he was the perfect man of the
job. While Candide was in the Bulgarian Army, he got punished when he tried to go for a walk
without permission because he thought that he could go for a walk, but then four soldiers captured him
and he was court martialed as a deserter. After he was captured, the Bulgarian King granted Candide s

Paul Reveres Ride Paul Revere s Ride is a collection of historical accounts centering around Paul
Revere s midnight ride to warn the countryside of the battles that occurred. The novel is made up of
narrative accounts that tell the whole story of the midnight ride. David Hackett Fischer goes to great
lengths to cover every possible angle in telling the story. Fischer illuminates the figure of Paul Revere,
a man far more complex than a simple artisan and messenger (3). By adding different perspectives he

These heavy red coats were required and any straying from this strict dress code was to be kept
immaculate on pain of a flogging (119). The author suggests, The uniform of the British soldier in
1775 might have been designed by some demonic tailor who had sworn sartorial vengeance upon the
human frame (118).
The military uniforms of the British also radiated a uniquely British quality. An air of superiority was
apparent in the dress of the British. The red coats were elaborately embellished with lace, wings,
buttons, loops, knots and incongruous heart shaped badges on the coattail (121). This illustrates the
gentility and superiority that the British felt was inherant in them. Instead of wearing the crudely put
together uniforms of the various militias, the British attempted to exude an air of confidence that was
repugnant to the Americans.
Hackett Fischer goes to great lengths to establish this feeling of superiority that was prevelant among
the British soldiers. He includes quotes throughout the novel in which the British commanders
condemn the crudely organized millitias. One British observer wrote It is a curious masquerade scene

An Interconnection Of Distributed Generations ( Dgs )
A microgrid is an interconnection of distributed generations (DGs), either a set of dispatchable
generating sources such as, gas turbines and fuel cells or non dispatchable generators such as, wind
turbines and photovoltaic sources, integrated with electrical and thermal energy storage devices to
meet the customers local energy needs, operating as a single system and small scale, on low voltage
distribution systems providing both power and heat. To ensure that the microgrid is operated as a
single aggregated system and meets power quality, reliability and security standards, power electronic
interfaces and controls need to be applied [1 2]. A microgrid should be capable work in two modes,
grid connected or islanded. The DGs are usually power electronics interfaced and in the grid
connected mode of operation, a microgrid is supported by the main grid s voltage and frequency. In
the island mode, the DG control is responsible for frequency regulation. Moreover, the control is also
responsible for managing the active and reactive power contributions of the DG system, such that the
load power is properly shared amongst the DG systems of the microgrid. Centralized control
approaches, however, require remarkable data transfer capacities and reliable communication links
[3], [4] and [5]. As such, they may be suitable for small scale microgrid in which the DG systems are
close together. For DG systems that are scattered over a large geographic span, decentralized droop

Stangerson traveled together and began to plot his revenge.
He used his unique abilities to track his victims to London. His health was slowly declining, but that

previously throughout history, but that they also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the flapper also bared her arms; this gave off a much more naked look than any previous generations.
They did away with the corset and instead adopted the girdle, which simply flattened the abdomen
rather than emphasizing the waist. The infamous Gabrielle Coco Chanel s clothing designs became the
epitome of 1920 s style.1 Flappers who enjoyed dancing and jazz music were referred to as jazz
babies . The music of the 1920s included ragtime, blues, and jazz; all of which were considered to be
an American art.2 However, it is jazz music that resonated most thoroughly with the flapper. Jazz was
an extremely different type of music for this era in comparison to that of their parents. This new music
was loud and sultry with innovative and unusual rhythms; it was seen as being a bad influence which
led to an increase in the

  • 25. William Shakespeare s Henry The Iv OPENING Heroism in Henry the IV has many different interpretations. The different views that Shakespeare examines defines heroism based by one s individual idea of what heroism means to them and by their values. Shakespeare also explores the two different origins of heroism one from a modern era and the second from the current to earlier period of time. Shakespeare intertwines honour and heroism into one. Hotspur portrays the idea of a dramatic hero in his time, this heroism is displayed by his reputation and sanctity his name. Hotspur seeks self honour this is seen when his willingness to lead a rebellion against the injustices he sees the King has made by leading men into battle and sacrifice his life in the name of honour. Fueling the desire Hotspur seeks of an honorable man. PARAGRAPH 1 Hotspur is seen honourably through the eyes King Henry the IV. In the opening scene act 1, we are introduced to King Henry IV. During the King s speech to his people of the court, we get a solid understanding of how Hotspur is seen as an honourable man. The King proclaims his jealousy of Lord Northumberland for having Hotspur as an honourable son, Yea, there thou makest me sad and makest me sin / In envy that my Lord Northumberland (77 78). In these cases, what would have been fair enough was to think a bit about how the portrayals of the media would have had impacts on those people who were innocent. Media reporting is also known as the shaping opinion device . When we talk about aborigines, people have the tendency to link them with petrol sniffing, unemployment and drunkardness (Johnson, 2009). People living in Australia or anywhere else are unaware or even know little about the lives, cultures and attitudes about the aborigines in Australia. Thus media, as the ultimate power is there to shape the opinions about the people through their provided images, symbols and messages; in a way to act the voice of the voiceless aborigines (Johnson, 2009). People will base their opinions on what and how the media is showing and broadcasting the news. Here the news angle is a good example to talk about. The media need to know about proper story selection. They should not like portray aborigines only when they are faulty and relate to it again when another aborigine has committed a crime. This will make the rest of the world think that all aborigines are alike and they have only to do with crimes and if we see to it, people have based their perceptions. This era was one defined by political reform and social activism as well as myriad of problems arising from America s rapid industrialization. During the Depression of the 1890s, the National Association of Manufacturers argued that the American economy could only expand with new foreign markets. Reformers like Teddy Roosevelt in Washington and Governor Hiram Johnson in California responded to an epidemic of political and civic corruption by expanding the role of government in regulating the economy and in giving citizens, for the first time, direct access to the legislative process. The federal income tax and the direct election of senators, for example, were a part of the Populist program, and Prohibition grew from a pre‐Civil War anti‐alcohol reform tradition. Though a minor character, Amador, a representation of the Church in a predominantly Catholic society, is integral to an acute understanding of the novel. Alice Walker juxtaposes Maggie with her sister, Dee, to demonstrate how society denigrates not only African American women but women in general in the 1970s. Early on in the story, Maggie is described as nervous, hopelessly standing in the corner. Later she is described as nearly hidden from view. On a metaphorical level, Maggie is the symbol of the lack of power women held in the 1970s. She is the epitome of the silent female homemaker. On the other hand, Dee is assertive, will look you right in the eye. She serves as a symbol of the free, successful modern woman. However, her assertiveness might come off as cockiness, and too much pride. By contrasting Maggie and Dee, Alice Walker is expressing both sides of the female role during that time. All in all, Maggie is a very distinctive character. Her house burning to the ground, her arrogant sister, and the effect society has on her explains that.
