Ethical Border For Research Essay
In the spirit of Emory s tradition of courageous inquiry, what question do you want to help answer and
why? (500 word limit)
Where is the Ethical Border for Research? We have been curious since the beginning. How does this
work? How can I improve the gene pool? Why does this disease only affect certain people? What is
the cure? These questions led to research to improve humankind as well as the large question looming
over research. When is enough? Where must be stop? It began over 4000 years ago. The idea of a
perfect being led people to change themselves through piercings, tattoos, and binding among other
changes. Alteration varied by culture: foot binding in China, lip plugs in Ethiopia, and tooth shaping in
Indonesia. However, they all had the same goal: to achieve be perfect . In the 20th century,
modifications went even further with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1990, gene therapy allowed for a girl to no longer have a weakened immune system through
manipulated cells. The new gene replaced the mutated gene, allowing her to produce ADA and
therefore boost her immune system. In the past 25 years, over 2000 new therapies have been approved
to cure leukemia and rare disorders. In the future, we may even be able to cure HIV. However, is this
gene manipulation ethical? From a scientist s view, genetic engineering may eliminate disorders and
some diseases. It would prevent life impairing disorders such as Trisomy 13 and Huntington s, and it
would cure certain cancers. But, from a social view, is it moral to change someone s DNA? Will gene
manipulation allow the rich to build a child with the ideal characteristics and widen the class gap?
Other questions also arise. How are we to support the growing population with our limited food
supply? Will everyone eventually become the perfect being and become identical, resulting in no
variation? And with this lack of variation, could a single disease wipe out

The Importance Of Voting Rights
The 15th amendment states that The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or
abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of
servitude (Bashara). These words are not complicated, and we should be able to follow and understand
them, yet over the course of time, we have put these legal words aside. While we may have made
significant leaps in giving everyone the right to vote, there are still many factors that affect minorities
during election periods and that may end up eliminating their votes. It is clear that some counties and
cities give the majority of people an unfair advantage when it comes to voting and that minorities, or
people living in poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A question on the literacy test that Louisiana used states to spell backwards, forwards or to print the
word vote upside down, but in the right order (Onion). It is clear that these questions do not pertain to
voting, but are just used as fillers to take up time. According to Lewis, test administrators would often
take the tests away from the test takers because they were taking to long; as he states on page 32 You
re takin too long you fail, nigger. Get outta here (Lewis and Aydin 3:32). During this time, James
Baldwin wrote to his nephew encouraging him to love those that hated him, because They have had to
believe for many years, and for innumerable reasons, that black men are inferior to white men
(Baldwin). It was people like Baldwin that through all of the hardship, tests, and trials were able to
obtain the right to vote. In the 1960s, roughly 5.5 million African Americans were registered to vote.
This number may seem large or perhaps optimistic, but the population of the African Americans living
in the United States was around 16.5 million people in the 60s. These statistics show us that only 3%
of African Americans living in the 1960s were able to overcome all the obstacles to be able to register.
One may think that after becoming a registered black voter, everything would be smooth sailing from
there, however, this was not the case. Fannie Lou Hamer described the

The Statement By Margaret Mead
Thesis
The video provided for this assignment supports the statement by Margaret Mead due to its illustration
of small groups of people making changes. One individual can make a difference, a good example of
this was Madalyn Murray O Hair who petitioned to get prayer taken out of public schools arguing that
separation of church and state should be upheld. A single person can make a difference, many people
with the same goals and views have a more powerful voice and are empowered to pursue bigger
change despite whatever obstacles they face. From the smallest community in the neighborhood where
people grew up to the President of the United States of America, anyone can make a change if they
determine in their heart to never give up working to obtain positive change.
Change is the one constant in life that always remains throughout time. Throughout life, change
occurs from birth until death. Human beings can and have pursued changes in their communities,
governments, even their nation as a collective force by joining others with similar motivations and
goals as themselves. Inequality in life, an ideal that people hold when being oppressed, can spark
movements such as civil rights, equal pay, educational rights for all and women s rights to choose
what happens to their own bodies. This can grow into organizations that we know today that still fight
for civil rights for all, among other organizations fighting for common interests of select groups.

Effects Of School Achievement On Children
School achievement outcomes are also life impacting. Often the only way out of poverty is an
education that can provide them with a job which can meet their income needs. If a child s school
achievement is affected by poverty, they have a higher chance of dropping out and continuing poverty
in their generation. Effects of school achievement are measured by if the child has repeated a grade,
suspended or expelled, and/or dropped out before graduating. A large amount of children that live in
poverty will repeat a grade due to limit educational tools to provide them with practice at home. If the
child has behavior problem, then they may be expelled for acting out or misbehaving, this affects their
learning as they are not in class learning. The percentage of children living poverty that are affected by
school achievement outcomes are 2 3 times greater than children not living in in this state of being.
Emotional or behavior outcomes are measured by tantrums, outbursts and aggression, this usually
persist beyond the normal age range expected. Poor children suffer from emotional and/or behavior
outcomes more often than children living in non poverty. These effects are displayed at school and at
home, occasionally in public places such as the mall, and causes disturbances such as violence.
Emotional problems also include internal problems such as anxiety and depression, which can cause
the child to disassociate themselves from social opportunities. These children are often

Construction and the Built Environment
Construction and the Environment Assignment One The year 1992 and the ‘Earth Summit in Rio de
Janeiro marked a paradigm shift in the attitude of the governments of the world, as over 150 delegates
attended and recognised the importance of ecological issues to the future of humanity. This was of
great significance to the construction industry, as one of the greatest consumers, and producers, of our
economic system. ‘Construction accounts for 40% of the total flow of raw materials into the global
economy every year – some 3 billion cubic tons. The industry accounts for approximately 9% of
Global Gross Domestic Product and in England alone provides employment for around 1.5 million

According to the Environment Agency, 31% of land used for residential uses originated from
farmland. Two widely used terms in this arena are brownfield and greenfield. Brownfield refers to
sites that have previously been occupied by a permanent structure, greenfield to virgin land. A
governmental target has been set for 60% of new housing to be sited on brownfield areas. As the risk
of flooding is expected to increase due to climate change, there can be a conflict between the desire to
build on flood safe areas and to utilise brownfield sites, as many of the latter are situated in areas
known to be at risk from flooding. Another problem is that the greatest need for new housing is in the
South East, whereas more available brownfield land is located in the North due to the decline of heavy
industry. Building on previous industrial sites has its own problems as there may be contamination in
the soil itself, something that has to be assessed at the planning stage as part of the general site
evaluation. Different land uses in Britain in 2000 http://www.environment

Many consider her America s best female actress. Kathleen Brady, in fact, says, quot;Lucille Ball is

not only been a comedienne, but also a superb businesswoman, an excellent role model, and has won
numerous awards.

was married to Desi Arnaz, she and Arnaz bought out RKO radio station, and changed its name to
Desilu. After she and Arnaz divorced, Lucy bought all of his shares of Desilu (Moritz 34). This was
very uncommon for women to do at this time. It was very rare that women even had any say about
what was going on. This proved her strength as a woman. When she was ready to sell Desilu, Ball
made a handsome profit from selling the company for $17,000,000 to Gulf amp;amp; Western in
1967. Obviously she knew what she was doing. In fact, Gloria Steinem said, quot;I admire her as a
business woman. You know, she really seemed to control her entire professional life and was very,
very smart quot; (100 Years of Great Women). She was certainly a brilliant businesswoman.
amp;#9;Because of her unbelievable talent as an actress, comedienne, woman, and person in general,
Lucille Ball has become a role model for many people. Among these people are Rosie O Donnell,
Carol Burnett, and Bette Midler. In fact, Rosie O Donnell said, quot;Lucille Ball paved the way for

Fraud, Money Laundering, and Securities and Commodities Fraud. Corporate fraud consists of
activities undertaken by an individual or company that are done in a dishonest or illegal manner, and
are designed to give an advantage to the perpetrating individual or company. Corporate fraud schemes
go beyond the scope of an employee s stated position, and are marked by their complexity and

Analysis Of The Poem Starry Night
Every production of an artist should be the expression of an adventure of his soul, said William
Maugham, a British playwright from the 19th century. Vincent Van Gogh, an artist who is considered
by many one of the most inspirational artists in history, was no stranger to depicting his struggles in
life or feelings in his work. Van Gogh s piece Starry Night, designed in the year 1889, shows this to be
true in that it was the result of his experiences in an asylum that encouraged this piece. Despite this
work has being so well known, many critics and observers of the piece have differing views on what
he was trying to communicate through it. Two prime examples of this can be seen by the views
expressed in the poems entitled, Vincent and The Starry Night , written by Don McClean and Anne
Sexton, respectively. While the poem Vincent , has a depressing tone to it, The Starry Night , by Anne
Sexton, depicts Starry Night as having a more lively mood, which more accurately represents that of
the painting, by Vincent Van Gogh.
Within the poem Vincent , written by Don McClean, a sense of a depressing mood is created through
the use of dark diction, detail and figurative language. Throughout his poem, McClean expresses some
of his thoughts, on Starry Night, by incorporating words like, no hope as well as suffering . Along
with this, at one point in the poem he says, the silver thorn of bloody rose lie crushed and broken on
the virgin snow . With the use of these words,

Feudalism During The Middle Ages
Feudalism is the military, social, and political system of the Middle Ages based on protective alliances
and land holding. The word comes from the Latin word feudum which means fief, an estate of land.
The feudal system was based off of the obligations and rights of people living during the time.
Landowners, also known as lords, gave their land in exchange for military protection and other
services. This granted land was called a fief, meanwhile, the person receiving it was called a vassal.
Feudalism not only depended but also functioned on the control of land. Without this two sided
bargain feudalism would not become successful during the Middle Ages.
The feudal society was structured much like a pyramid. At the very top and peak, was the

with the Red Sea to the north. Eritrea is one of the highest landmasses on the continent of Africa,

highest point in Eritrea reaching heihts of 9,880 ft. The lowest point of elevation is in the Kobar Sink
in the Danakil Depression. It is 380 feet below sea level. The major rivers Anseba and Barka flow

cover the land. The country s average temperature is 60˚ Fahrenheit (16˚ Celsius) and 508 mm (20 in)

The Urban Revolution started around 6,000 years ago, after 3,500 BCE, with the transition from
Neolithic cultures to the establishment of the first of six different independent civilizations. Each of
these civilizations arose independently from each other, were distinctly pristine in their beginnings,
and principally located on or near major river tributaries and watersheds. They include the Tigris and

Brick Wall Reflection
My father was always sharing with me, his stored words of wisdom as a kid growing up. One in
particular that I heard many times over, was, this world is made up of all kinds of people from all
walks of life.
You just never know what people are going through in their life s and do not deserved to be judged by
anybody and by all means not to be judged by you. He followed up with the usual question, do you
understand me? And from time to time, he would challenge me to make sure I did.
He stressed for me to take ownership of your own responsibilities and treat everyone with the same
respect, that you want in return. Do not turn your head, do not look down and never be disrespectful to
anyone in passing.
Always be the first to extend your hand with a simple gesture, because you never know, you might
need that same hand to help you up.
This brick wall represents the variation of tone and color of each brick. No two bricks are truly the
same, but yet, very similar.
My father continued with; the human race is very much like this brick wall, different shapes, different
tones and colors, and from different places from all over the world.
While viewing this presentation, the focus was highlighting to compare similarities between the bricks
and the human races, attributes.
But here is the true story behind the brick wall:
It s the mortar between these bricks that give it, it s strength to with stand all weather conditions to last
for years.
As for the human race, this mortar

Our Culture is Defined by those Around Us
Culture is defined to the group of people which learned behavior that has already gave the instruction
from previous generation through next generation by imitation and language (Adler 1983 citing
Barnouw 1963). Also Schein (1990) describes that culture is a lesson that a group has been studied
and solved the problem for internal integration and learnt to survive from external environment for
over period of time. For example, behavior, cognition and emotion processes and in the deepest level
which is included perception, language and thought processes such as attitudes and feelings. For most
of organizations nowadays have to face with an increasing of a diversity of employees which are
multicultural employees especially for multinational corporation (MNC) (Fitzsimmons 2013). To deal
with different cultures and nationalities, the companies and managers have to learn and understand
their employees such as common language, knowledge sharing and performance (Lauring Selmer
2011) then see how multicultural individuals can help and contribute the organizations (Fitzsimmons,
Miska Stahl 2011) and set the policies or principles for employees could be followed (Demo et al.
2012).

The Aim of Man Essays

Mr. Matthew Adams
English 150 SB Annotation 4
October 9, 2010
Aristotle The Aim of Man Aristotle starts off in his essay explaining the definitions of Good, Primacy
of Statecraft and the study of Ethics. He defines good as where all things are to be aimed, for example
health. He then defines Statecraft as citizens of a state, a country, and of the world need to do good for
their own good but more importantly for the good of the state. He also characterizes various types of
good. Finally, the definition on study of Ethics. This talks about the pure excellence of justice that
involves the disagreements and agreements of uncertainty and certainty. Aristotle also talks about
happiness and where a certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses the metaphor of a chameleon to illustrate this. We are all different and when you think of a
chameleon, you first think of colors and personalities. In his example as a visual we can say that
people s happiness ranges so far and in between. My response to the topic about the aim of man is that
I agree that we all strive to achieve the very same goal as Aristotle points out; which is happiness. I
think that his essay captures his definition of happiness well by repeating it several times throughout.
This is effective to me because it is a repetitive way to enforce the topic. I agree with Aristotle
especially that one does not know happiness until they can make the discernment. For the same reason
he stated that a child can not be happy. I like his definition to happiness because it isn t just
characterized by good fortunes but it is much deeper in that it derives from the soul with perfect
righteousness. I can identify a strength of the essay is that he doesn t get off the topic often. He
touches about wealth and how that isn t the true source of happiness but quickly closes on the subject
and goes back to the good that we are seeking. Another example where he does this was towards the
end, he briefly talks about sleep is an inactivity of the soul. He clearly dismisses the subject by
pointing out its irrelevance. This makes the essay easier to follow. Another strength that I notice was
he used the

Essay on Nihilism in Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons
Nihilism in Turgenev s Fathers and Sons has several characters that hold strong views of the world.
For example, Pavel believes that Russia needs structure from such things as institution, religion, and
class hierarchy. On the other hand, Madame Odintzov views the world as simple so long as she keeps
it systematic and free from interference.
This commentary will focus on perhaps the most interesting and complex character in Fathers and
Sons: Bazarov.
Vladimir Nabakov writes that Turgenev takes his creature [B] out of a self imposed pattern and places
him in the normal world of chance. By examining Bazarov I will attempt to make sense of this
statement. Using nihilism as a starting point I am going look at Bazarov s views and ... Show more

Everyone ought to educate himself (105).
Since the indoctrination of established society begins with education, a nihilist should view education
from behind the barrel of a shotgun.
Logic is of no use Bazarov,
You don t need logic, I suppose, to put a piece of bread in your mouth (123).
The nihilist agenda, that is, the need for the destruction of structure is beyond logic and is as necessary
as eating or breathing. In addition Bazarov believes that what is preached by politicians and so called
leaders is itself without logic.
Aristocraticism, liberalism, progress, principles think of it, what a lot of foreign words ... and useless
words! (123).
It is easy for Bazarov to give no credence and thus negate the things which government deems
important in society. He sees irrelevance in much of what is said and done by leaders and Bazarov
believes that real issues are being avoided.
We saw that our clever men, our so called progressives and reformers never accomplished anything,
that we were concerning ourselves with a lot of nonsense, discussing art, unconscious creative work,
parliamentarianism, the bar, and the devil knows what, while all the time the real question was getting
daily bread to eat ... when our industrial enterprises come to grief solely for want of honest man at the
top (126).
Bazarov s nihilistic nature is a product of the corruption he sees in the nation. Bazarov could choose to

the building and started to run towards the castle. While he was running, he saw Caliban beating one

Naples, but he knew he had no time to worry about it, so he continued to run to the castle. Finally he
reached the castle and knocked on the door violently. Before Ferdinand even opened the door fully,
Prospero was hurriedly explaining what was happening. Ferdinand immediately called for the army.
He called for Miranda and told her to stay in their room and that she would be safe there. He called for

that they had learned to fight in the war. Some students were uneasy, while others were very excited at
the fact they were able to fight in the war. Prospero and his students ran out of the building and back
to the castle. When they got there, Ferdinand had already gotten Caliban back to the castle. Caliban
was apparently the leader of the army. Everyone knew that Caliban would destroy everybody, but

for the first time he touches the man, surprising him, and discusses how his underwear feels! He also
goes into the manager s office even after being told that it is not a good time. The last amusing episode

Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo Essay
One of the most important documents in the history of the state of Texas is the Treaty of Guadalupe
Hidalgo, whose many functions included the termination of the Mexican American War, the
establishment of the Rio Grande as the official border between the state of Texas and the country of
Mexico, as well as granting rights to all Mexican citizens living in the state (Collier et al. 12).
However, it is essential to recognize how the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo established the core
identity of Texas an ethnically and culturally diverse state because of the functions explicitly outlined
in within its text, making it the marker of a major turning point in the history of the state (Collier et al.
12). Since its signing on February 2nd, 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo remains in effect and

Several conflicts, including the Civil War, forced many Mexicans out of Texas due to xenophobic
attitudes towards them (Collier et al. 14). Despite these troubles, years of cultural assimilation and
population growth has led to Hispanics composing 38.6% of the state s population as of 2014,
according to the data presented by Collier et al., making Texas a majority minority state (28). This
term can be applied because Hispanics, being an ethnic minority, make up a large part of population of
the state, and have a large influence on politics and culture due to how ingrained they have become in
the history of Texas (Collier et al. 27). Overall, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo denotes a turning
point in the history of Texas because it represents the point at which the core aspects of the state were
defined, allowing for Texas to develop through the years into a modern, multicultural, and diverse
state (Collier et al.

Homeric Vs. Archean Greek Society
The shield can be considered to be a microcosm of the larger story going on. Achilles s depicts real
battles that have happened, and may happen in the future, but also a battle between Homeric society
versus Archean Greek society: heroes versus real people. To be clear, Homeric society generally
consists of lavish and extraordinary fictionalized heroes and gods that live by a martial code and
Archean Greeks are simply normal citizens of Greece that live by the civil code. The martial code is
what gives the heroes power, status, and honor. An exchange between Odysseus and Thersites show to

What Are The Similarities And Differences Between Koalas...
Frogs are a large, carnivorous group of small bodied, tailless amphibians who on average live for 10
12 years. In contrast, koalas are arboreal herbivores and are marsupials that are native to Australia
who can live up to 18 years, old according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koala. Although, these two
animals, like many other creatures, are unfortunately endangered but for various reasons. There are
countless problems facing towards koalas and frogs and they are obviously not all the same. The
troubles that the koalas and frogs face can easily be compared and contrasted. Scientists have been
looking for ways to save koalas and frogs, but they do not all work. Therefore, there are many
similarities and distinctions between the problems for frogs and koalas. As a matter of fact, there are
not too many similarities between the problems for these animals. Nonetheless, there is one major
thing that has caused both of these animals to be endangered species, and that one thing is the work of
humans. Without a doubt, humans specifically play a crucial role in killing off frogs and koalas around
the globe. One particular part of these animals lives that are essential to them living is their habitat.
Unfortunately, as the human population is growing at a fast rate, more and more of these habitats ...

gum trees, goats eating away more blue gum trees, their main food source getting taken away, and
getting killed for their fur. Therefore, all the struggles with these animals including pollution and
human interactions can eventually lead to the unfortunate extinction of both koalas and

Compare And Contrast Bradstreet And Taylor
Anne Bradstreet s In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Elizabeth Bradstreet, Who Deceased August,
1665, Being a Year and Half Old and Edward Taylor s Upon Wedlock and Death of Children are
elegies written in early colonial America. Bradstreet and Taylor were contemporaries of each other,
and while Bradstreet became well known for her poetry during her lifetime, Taylor was not discovered
until years after his death. The poetry that they wrote was controversial in Colonial America because it
was not written using plain style, a type of writing which avoided the use extra biblical references and
shifted attention from the writer. Both writers wrote their respective elegies to express the grief they
felt in the loss of their offspring. Although Anne Bradstreet s In Memory and Edward Taylor s Upon
Wedlock share similar subjects and content, the technical features distinguish the two author s styles.

In Memory is a poem written to the deceased grandchild, a second person address. In lines one
through seven, Bradstreet calls the child her dear babe (1), sweet babe (2), fair flower (3). She also
uses pronouns such as thy (5, 6) and thou (7) to indicate that she is speaking directly to the child. In
lines eight through fourteen, she continues to talk to the child, although the reader could assume she is
speaking to them, since she does not directly address the child again. Upon Wedlock is written to the
reader, a third person observer. Taylor never once addresses his children or anyone else in his poem,

Analysis Of The Poem The Bell Jar
Esther Greenwood: Normal, as she knew it
In all aspects of the lives we live, normal can not ever be defined as a single idea. If normal is such a
thing at all, it is a subjective opinion and can only be defined on an individual level. Everything we
interpret is relative to our upbringing and our environment. Not one person had the same upbringing
or lived in the same environment as another person for even siblings who have lived together their
whole lives have different nurturing experiences. The differentiation between normal and abnormal is
a topic of much debate. The meaning of normality varies in many ways such as by person, time, place,
situation, culture and set of values. Normality is usually seen as good and desirable by society and
what society thinks while abnormality may be seen as bad or undesirable (Boundless).
Sylvia Plath, the author of The Bell Jar, writes in a very simple and ordinary but exceptionally unique
way. She put her whole young genuine heart and soul into this semi autobiography. Her first person
point of view allows the reader to really engage with the characters thoughts, specifically Esther
Greenwood and her perspective on everything. In The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood encounters the
coming of many things, including age and mental illness. While the coming of age is normal for the
majority of society, the coming of mental illness is abnormal. With that being said, many may classify
Esther Greenwood as abnormal and deviant but in all reality,

Hospice And End Of Life Care
Hospice and End of Life Care
What is Hospice? Hospice is compassionate care provided to patients facing terminal illness or illness
for which there is no cure. These patients are diagnosed with an illness from which they will never
recover and usually have a life prognosis of six months or less (Hospice Foundation of America,
2014). The goal of hospice care is improving quality of life and managing the symptoms of disease
and the dying process. The care hospice offers is focused on pain management and emotional and
spiritual support for both the patient and family (National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization,
2012). Hospice care can be provided in many different settings, often the patient s own home. Hospice
care can also be provided in hospitals, nursing homes, long term care facilities and free standing
hospice centers and is available to patients of all ages (NHPCO, 2012). A patient receiving care in a
hospice program has a team of healthcare individuals that can consist of the patients own physician,
nurses, home health aides, clergy, social workers, and speech and physical therapists (NHPCO, 2012).
Usually, a care plan is developed by the hospice team and care of the patient is provided by family
members with the support of the hospice staff (NHPCO, 2012). Nurses make regular visits to the
patient and family and are on call 24/7. Once enrolled in a hospice program hospice covers everything
that will be needed to care for you, from medications to manage pain to

Risk Is An Unspoken Meaning
At risk has an unspoken meaning. At risk is synonymous with at risk youth in Western Culture. At risk
is a phrase used in human services, the media, academia and government to identify young people
who are troubling or on the fringe of risky behavior. If you do a Google search of the phrase at risk
over 13 million images will appear most of which are of young people. Risk Discourse creates a risk
society in response to specific populations being on the fringe of what is deemed normal within
society. Risk discourse is a popular modernity term written at length by Modernist such as Ulrich
Beck and Anthony Giddens European Sociologists. A Risk Society was not even a term until the
1980s. In the 1990s Risk Society became popular and it acceptance coincided with the infiltration of
Risk Discourse into sociology, politics, literature and academia. There is an ongoing debate as to
whether environmental concerns created a vacuum for a risk society or if it was a by product of
immigration and the War on Drugs. Either way Risk Discourse and risk society language terms are
here to stay. Peter Kelly poses a question asking if young people are a society s most precious resource
then what does society need to do to adequately utilize this resource. He separates young people into
categories of income, young people are exposed to high risk setting more frequently than high income
youths. Peter Kelly makes this separation to demonstrate there is inadequate research available on

the environmental constraint. An automated irrigation system is developed to improve water use for
agriculture yields. Energy conservation is a very critical issue in wireless sensor networks. For
monitoring the energy consumption MAC protocols plays a very major role. With the help sensors and
simple circuitry this work purposes low cost product, which can be bought even by a poor farmer. The
structure has a dispersed sensor nodes (SN) comprising of soil moisture, humidity and temperature
sensors located in the soil and base station (BS). BS will gather data from SN. If the collected data in
the BS is less than threshold value then BS will perform a needed action for irrigation. In this project,
a TDMA based algorithm and single hop wireless communication are used to provide better energy
efficiency. Network Simulator 3 (NS 3) has been used for the exploration of the algorithm.

Musical Analysis Of Cocaine
Well, I had used it a few times. I liked it as long as someone else was supplying it, like laying out lines
at a party, but not enough to spend my own money on it. In 1990 I took a job managing a motel at
three blocks north of 90th and Aurora, which people in recovery who live in that neighborhood,
jokingly refer to a, the corner of 90th and Crackistan. Having to deal with numerous crack heads that
came around the motel day in and day out left me eternally grateful that I got clean and sober in the
late 70, s before crack hit the streets. I saw the way it decimated the greenwood community every day
for a number of years.
The following excerpt is the last verse of the song Cocaine, that was a big hit for Eric Clapton in the
late 1980 s:.
If your thing is gone and you wanna ride on ... Cocaine
Don t forget the fact, that you can t get it back ...Cocaine
She don t lie, she don t lie, she don t lie ... Cocaine.
(Cale, 1976 )
The song itself does not glorify cocaine, but those who listened to it, only heard the word cocaine, and
repeated it over and over like a mindless mantra. In actuality, Eric ... Show more content on

The number of methods that produce powdered cocaine and crack have a huge impact on how they are
delivered to the body. Because cocaine constricts the blood vessels that are absorbing it, snorting is a
relatively slow way to deliver it into the blood stream. Blood levels rise gradually and don t reach a
peak for about thirty minutes after snorting. In its crack form, the vapors inhaled deliver cocaine as
fast as injecting it with a needle would. The faster the rush occurs, the greater the risk of addiction or
overdose is. The rush and crash phenomenon can lead the cocaine user to keep taking additional doses
until blood levels accumulate to toxic levels. Ingesting cocaine is the least effective route of delivery .

California Is Notorious For Its Wildfires
California is notorious for its wildfires. In the last two decades San Diego County has faced some of
the most destructive firestorms in state history (Brainard, 2007). Ron Roberts, chairman of the San
Diego County Board of Supervisors, describes the county s disposition as, We have a very dangerous,
unpredictable situation. We have some of the highest temperatures, some of the driest landscape
conditions, and some of the most powerful winds all ingredients for a perfect firestorm (Pesce, 2007).
In 2003, San Diego County was overwhelmed by firestorms, including the Cedar Fire, and at that time
it was the worst in state history. However, in 2007 San Diego was once again devastated by firestorms,
but this time more mighty than the preceding (Ekard, Tuck, Jr., Steffen, 2003). San Diego has had its
fair share of practice at managing firestorm response actions. The 2003 firestorms proved that there
were numerous inefficiencies within the county s emergency response plan, while the 2007 firestorms
emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and improvements implemented were
effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are inevitable due to the continuing
drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior (Pesce, 2007). Having a well
constructed Incident Command System (ICS) and the trained personnel to execute its model is the
most effective measure to mitigate the degree of life lost and property damage in a disaster incident. A

  • 2. Ethical Border For Research Essay In the spirit of Emory s tradition of courageous inquiry, what question do you want to help answer and why? (500 word limit) Where is the Ethical Border for Research? We have been curious since the beginning. How does this work? How can I improve the gene pool? Why does this disease only affect certain people? What is the cure? These questions led to research to improve humankind as well as the large question looming over research. When is enough? Where must be stop? It began over 4000 years ago. The idea of a perfect being led people to change themselves through piercings, tattoos, and binding among other changes. Alteration varied by culture: foot binding in China, lip plugs in Ethiopia, and tooth shaping in Indonesia. However, they all had the same goal: to achieve be perfect . In the 20th century, modifications went even further with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1990, gene therapy allowed for a girl to no longer have a weakened immune system through manipulated cells. The new gene replaced the mutated gene, allowing her to produce ADA and therefore boost her immune system. In the past 25 years, over 2000 new therapies have been approved to cure leukemia and rare disorders. In the future, we may even be able to cure HIV. However, is this gene manipulation ethical? From a scientist s view, genetic engineering may eliminate disorders and some diseases. It would prevent life impairing disorders such as Trisomy 13 and Huntington s, and it would cure certain cancers. But, from a social view, is it moral to change someone s DNA? Will gene manipulation allow the rich to build a child with the ideal characteristics and widen the class gap? Other questions also arise. How are we to support the growing population with our limited food supply? Will everyone eventually become the perfect being and become identical, resulting in no variation? And with this lack of variation, could a single disease wipe out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Voting Rights The 15th amendment states that The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude (Bashara). These words are not complicated, and we should be able to follow and understand them, yet over the course of time, we have put these legal words aside. While we may have made significant leaps in giving everyone the right to vote, there are still many factors that affect minorities during election periods and that may end up eliminating their votes. It is clear that some counties and cities give the majority of people an unfair advantage when it comes to voting and that minorities, or people living in poverty, ... It is clear that these questions do not pertain to voting, but are just used as fillers to take up time. According to Lewis, test administrators would often take the tests away from the test takers because they were taking to long; as he states on page 32 You re takin too long you fail, nigger. Get outta here (Lewis and Aydin 3:32). During this time, James Baldwin wrote to his nephew encouraging him to love those that hated him, because They have had to believe for many years, and for innumerable reasons, that black men are inferior to white men (Baldwin). It was people like Baldwin that through all of the hardship, tests, and trials were able to obtain the right to vote. In the 1960s, roughly 5.5 million African Americans were registered to vote. This number may seem large or perhaps optimistic, but the population of the African Americans living in the United States was around 16.5 million people in the 60s. These statistics show us that only 3% of African Americans living in the 1960s were able to overcome all the obstacles to be able to register. One may think that after becoming a registered black voter, everything would be smooth sailing from there, however, this was not the case. Fannie Lou Hamer described the ... • 4. The Statement By Margaret Mead Thesis The video provided for this assignment supports the statement by Margaret Mead due to its illustration of small groups of people making changes. One individual can make a difference, a good example of this was Madalyn Murray O Hair who petitioned to get prayer taken out of public schools arguing that separation of church and state should be upheld. A single person can make a difference, many people with the same goals and views have a more powerful voice and are empowered to pursue bigger change despite whatever obstacles they face. From the smallest community in the neighborhood where people grew up to the President of the United States of America, anyone can make a change if they determine in their heart to never give up working to obtain positive change. Change is the one constant in life that always remains throughout time. Throughout life, change occurs from birth until death. Human beings can and have pursued changes in their communities, governments, even their nation as a collective force by joining others with similar motivations and goals as themselves. Inequality in life, an ideal that people hold when being oppressed, can spark movements such as civil rights, equal pay, educational rights for all and women s rights to choose what happens to their own bodies. This can grow into organizations that we know today that still fight for civil rights for all, among other organizations fighting for common interests of select groups. Changes are made by ... • 5. Effects Of School Achievement On Children School achievement outcomes are also life impacting. Often the only way out of poverty is an education that can provide them with a job which can meet their income needs. If a child s school achievement is affected by poverty, they have a higher chance of dropping out and continuing poverty in their generation. Effects of school achievement are measured by if the child has repeated a grade, suspended or expelled, and/or dropped out before graduating. A large amount of children that live in poverty will repeat a grade due to limit educational tools to provide them with practice at home. If the child has behavior problem, then they may be expelled for acting out or misbehaving, this affects their learning as they are not in class learning. The percentage of children living poverty that are affected by school achievement outcomes are 2 3 times greater than children not living in in this state of being. Emotional or behavior outcomes are measured by tantrums, outbursts and aggression, this usually persist beyond the normal age range expected. Poor children suffer from emotional and/or behavior outcomes more often than children living in non poverty. These effects are displayed at school and at home, occasionally in public places such as the mall, and causes disturbances such as violence. Emotional problems also include internal problems such as anxiety and depression, which can cause the child to disassociate themselves from social opportunities. These children are often ... Construction and the Built Environment Construction and the Environment Assignment One The year 1992 and the ‘Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro marked a paradigm shift in the attitude of the governments of the world, as over 150 delegates attended and recognised the importance of ecological issues to the future of humanity. This was of great significance to the construction industry, as one of the greatest consumers, and producers, of our economic system. ‘Construction accounts for 40% of the total flow of raw materials into the global economy every year – some 3 billion cubic tons. According to the Environment Agency, 31% of land used for residential uses originated from farmland. Two widely used terms in this arena are brownfield and greenfield. Brownfield refers to sites that have previously been occupied by a permanent structure, greenfield to virgin land. A governmental target has been set for 60% of new housing to be sited on brownfield areas. As the risk of flooding is expected to increase due to climate change, there can be a conflict between the desire to build on flood safe areas and to utilise brownfield sites, as many of the latter are situated in areas known to be at risk from flooding. Another problem is that the greatest need for new housing is in the South East, whereas more available brownfield land is located in the North due to the decline of heavy industry. Building on previous industrial sites has its own problems as there may be contamination in the soil itself, something that has to be assessed at the planning stage as part of the general site evaluation. • 9. Analysis Of The Poem Starry Night Every production of an artist should be the expression of an adventure of his soul, said William Maugham, a British playwright from the 19th century. Vincent Van Gogh, an artist who is considered by many one of the most inspirational artists in history, was no stranger to depicting his struggles in life or feelings in his work. Van Gogh s piece Starry Night, designed in the year 1889, shows this to be true in that it was the result of his experiences in an asylum that encouraged this piece. Despite this work has being so well known, many critics and observers of the piece have differing views on what he was trying to communicate through it. Two prime examples of this can be seen by the views expressed in the poems entitled, Vincent and The Starry Night , written by Don McClean and Anne Sexton, respectively. While the poem Vincent , has a depressing tone to it, The Starry Night , by Anne Sexton, depicts Starry Night as having a more lively mood, which more accurately represents that of the painting, by Vincent Van Gogh. Within the poem Vincent , written by Don McClean, a sense of a depressing mood is created through the use of dark diction, detail and figurative language. Throughout his poem, McClean expresses some of his thoughts, on Starry Night, by incorporating words like, no hope as well as suffering . Along with this, at one point in the poem he says, the silver thorn of bloody rose lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow . With the use of these words, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The word comes from the Latin word feudum which means fief, an estate of land. The feudal system was based off of the obligations and rights of people living during the time. Landowners, also known as lords, gave their land in exchange for military protection and other services. This granted land was called a fief, meanwhile, the person receiving it was called a vassal. Feudalism not only depended but also functioned on the control of land. Without this two sided bargain feudalism would not become successful during the Middle Ages. The ancient Mayan civilization around 100 BCE was located on the Yucatan peninsula and its associated wetland agricultural areas with its largest city being Tikal. The Mayans built massive temples and stepped pyramids and developed the most sophisticated mathematical, calendrical, and astronomical systems of any civilization within the Americas. • 13. Brick Wall Reflection My father was always sharing with me, his stored words of wisdom as a kid growing up. One in particular that I heard many times over, was, this world is made up of all kinds of people from all walks of life. You just never know what people are going through in their life s and do not deserved to be judged by anybody and by all means not to be judged by you. He followed up with the usual question, do you understand me? And from time to time, he would challenge me to make sure I did. He stressed for me to take ownership of your own responsibilities and treat everyone with the same respect, that you want in return. Do not turn your head, do not look down and never be disrespectful to anyone in passing. Always be the first to extend your hand with a simple gesture, because you never know, you might need that same hand to help you up. This brick wall represents the variation of tone and color of each brick. No two bricks are truly the same, but yet, very similar. My father continued with; the human race is very much like this brick wall, different shapes, different tones and colors, and from different places from all over the world. While viewing this presentation, the focus was highlighting to compare similarities between the bricks and the human races, attributes. But here is the true story behind the brick wall: It s the mortar between these bricks that give it, it s strength to with stand all weather conditions to last for years. The Aim of Man Essays Khouanchay (Kay) Krueger Mr. Matthew Adams English 150 SB Annotation 4 October 9, 2010 Aristotle The Aim of Man Aristotle starts off in his essay explaining the definitions of Good, Primacy of Statecraft and the study of Ethics. He defines good as where all things are to be aimed, for example health. He then defines Statecraft as citizens of a state, a country, and of the world need to do good for their own good but more importantly for the good of the state. He also characterizes various types of good. Finally, the definition on study of Ethics. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He uses the metaphor of a chameleon to illustrate this. We are all different and when you think of a chameleon, you first think of colors and personalities. In his example as a visual we can say that people s happiness ranges so far and in between. My response to the topic about the aim of man is that I agree that we all strive to achieve the very same goal as Aristotle points out; which is happiness. I think that his essay captures his definition of happiness well by repeating it several times throughout. This is effective to me because it is a repetitive way to enforce the topic. I agree with Aristotle especially that one does not know happiness until they can make the discernment. For the same reason he stated that a child can not be happy. I like his definition to happiness because it isn t just characterized by good fortunes but it is much deeper in that it derives from the soul with perfect righteousness. I can identify a strength of the essay is that he doesn t get off the topic often. He touches about wealth and how that isn t the true source of happiness but quickly closes on the subject and goes back to the good that we are seeking. Another example where he does this was towards the end, he briefly talks about sleep is an inactivity of the soul. He clearly dismisses the subject by pointing out its irrelevance. This makes the essay easier to follow. Another strength that I notice was he used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
