Essay on Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci
Most people probably think of Leonardo Da Vinci as just a painter but in reality he was actually also a
expert drawer, an ingenious inventor, and a marvelous scientist. Over a period of twenty five years
Leonard dissected around thirty human bodies as well as cows, birds, frogs, bears, and monkeys. Of
these bodies he made over two hundred tedious drawings. Another thing to remember is beings the
process of drawing took so long the bodies would start decomposing before he was finished with all of
the drawings in which he intended to make. Leonardo Da Vinci was born on Saturday April 15, 1452.
His father named Ser Piero Da Vinci was an important man, leading citizen who studied at the
University of Vinci, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As most people know Leonardo was a magnificent artist however some people don t realize being an
artist doesn t always mean you re good at painting and drawing. Leonardo was originally brought to
the Moor who ruled the duchy of Milan by music not art. The Moor became Leonardo s patron after
Leonardo painted an altarpiece for the Church of San Francesco Grande. When the Moor decided to
make a bronze statue of his father on horseback Leonardo stepped up to take on the task. Leonardo
planned to make the horse first then make the rider separately and add it on later. He studied horses
drawing the best the Moor had in his stable he also measured them even dissecting horses to make
sure he had the plans just right. In 1493 Leonardo displayed his clay model that was full size. He still
had to cast the enormous statue, which could prove to be the hardest part of making the sculpture. He
invented a new way to get all the molten bronze into the mold quickly so it didn t crack when it
cooled. When all the bronze required to make the statue (more than seventy tons) was gathered and the
molds made the Moor used the bronze to make cannons. The would be eighth wonder of the world
was never cast and when the French captured Milan in 1499 the soldiers used Leonardo s clay model
for target practice. It eventually crumbled so even the model of the would be eighth wonder of the
world is not around today. As an artist Leonardo also made three famous paintings. The Last

Stroke Research Papers
Stroke, also known as cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is the fourth leading cause of death in the
United States today. In any given year, approximately 800,000 Americans will suffer a stroke, with
nearly 25% dying acutely or from subsequent complications over the following 12 months. This
article will describe the pathogenesis of the major types of stroke and briefly discuss some treatment
options.
Thromboembolic Strokes 85% of strokes result from a thrombus, or blood clot, blocking the flow of
oxygenated blood to the brain. This scenario often occurs in the context of undiagnosed or
undertreated atrial fibrillation. In atrial fibrillation, the abnormal fluttering movement of the heart s
atrial chambers increases the chances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blood vessel in question may be a branch of a middle cerebral artery, producing the symptoms
described above. In other cases, the vessel may be located deep inside the brain, causing a so called
lacunar infarct, which can result in sensory or motor deficits (but seldom both). Hemorrhagic strokes
can also result from head trauma or therapy with anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin. Currently, there
is no specific treatment for most hemorrhagic strokes other than supportive care followed by
occupational, physical, and speech therapy. In the appendix of this book, I propose a novel approach
to acute stroke management. The most catastrophic form of hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a weak,
bulging region in a blood vessel wall called an aneurysm ruptures, leading to a subarachnoid
hemorrhage (SAH). Intracranial aneurysms are more common in people with polycystic kidney
disease; still, the majority of cases are sporadic. People suffering from an SAH complain of the worst
headache of their lives and often experience seizures and loss of consciousness. Even with prompt
hospitalization and surgical intervention, 30% of SAH victims do not

Yemen Conflict In The United States
Yemen is a nation that has spent more of its years in a state of conflict rather than peace. The Middle
Eastern nation, approximately the size of the state of California, has experienced all forms conflict to
include: interstate, intrastate, non state and one sided conflict (UCDP, 2016). In 1990, following
numerous conflicts, North and South Yemen finally unified. While the unification was peaceful,
animosity between sides remained under the surface. In 1994, a short civil war erupted only lasting
several months until the secession was terminated (UCDP, 2016). However, the national sentiments
remained, laying the foundation for civil war to reignite in even greater force in 2014. According to
the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UDCP) Yemen has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Yemen government has historically been weak, lacked in control, effectiveness and stability
(Mitchell, 2012). The nation is accustomed to all forms of conflict, particularly civil, making it more
likely for civil war to reoccur (DeRouen, 2015). The weak and transitional state of the government
provided rebel groups, in this particular instance, Ansaruallah, the opportunity to rebel against the
central government and ignite a civil war. While the opportunity was present for the rebellion to occur,
the underlying longstanding grievances with the government were arguably the primary factors
leading to the conflict. The Yemeni people have been impoverished, suffering from famine and water
shortages and lacking any economic stability (Laub, 2015). Yemenis do not receive adequate care or
protection from the government and therefore they look to the more powerful rebel groups within their
borders (Mitchell, 2012). These groups are able to gain in power due to territorial advantages,
recruitment of enraged and desperate citizens and lack of opposition against them (Fearon, 2012). At
the time of the governmental transition and the Arab Spring movement, protests were ongoing. The
Yemen government decided to strike out against protesters and killed over 40 civilians (UCDP, 2016).
This event, coupled with the previously outlined grievances

The Pit And The Pendulum Theme Essay
Poe shows an apocalyptic and evil theme in The Pit and the Pendulum . Within the story the main

The Current Budget Of State Of Michigan
This report provides data on the current budget of the State of Michigan. It includes data on state
government finances based on information collected from the 2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial
Report CAFR, and the State of Michigan Executive Budget for the fiscal year 2016. This report covers
the following: revenues, expenditures, and debt, fund balances, and credit rating. For many years,
Michigan s economy declined while the nation s economy thrived. Grasping this one state recession is
essential for determining Michigan s economic present and future. It is also important to understand
why Michigan stayed in a recession while the rest of the country s economy flourished, and why it
ended, because those may be vital solutions to avoiding another downturn. This report is divided into
four sections. The first section introduces the State of Michigan and gives a brief contextual. The
second section gives a brief historical background of Michigan s economy. The third section glances
into the state budget and provides a thorough analysis and discussion of the financial data. The fourth
section discusses the similarities and differences between Michigan and Minnesota in terms of budget
management and budget balancing strategies. Introduction Demographics Michigan is the eleventh
largest state in the United States with a population of 9.9 million. That is an increase of 0.27 percent
since 2010 (US Census Bureau). The State covers 56,538 square miles. More than half the

Essay On Putonghua
There has been a long debate on whether Putonghua should be used in teaching Chinese Language in
the society since the Curriculum Development Council has identified Putonghua as the Medium of
Instruction in 1999. However, Cantonese is the mother tongue of the majority of Hong Kong student
for decades. Under this premise, Cantonese should be used instead of Putonghua in teaching Chinese
in Hong Kong secondary schools to enhance both the quality and efficiency of teaching.
To begin with, using Cantonese as the medium of instruction could probably improve student s
performance on learning classical Chinese. There are several Chinese language learning scholars
proved that Cantonese is an ancient Han language which has a longer history than Putonghua. ... Show

Cantonese is the mother tongue of the majority of Hong Kong secondary students. It is generally
believed that student feel more confident when they are asked to speak in a language used in their
daily life. In contrast, using Putonghua to teach Chinese may cause learning obstacles. Students need
to learn a new set of pronunciation and usage of words. Both speaking and listening have to be
managed in a language that they are not as familiar as Cantonese. This probably discourage student
from class discussion. Cantonese does not contain these barriers. Therefore student is likely to focus
on deeper levels of language features and improve the teaching effectiveness. According to the study
done by The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research ( SCOLAR ), there is no clear
evidence or statistic can prove that using Putonghua as the medium of instruction can enhance
teaching efficiency (Chan, 2015) . Besides, the adoption of using Putonghua to teach Chinese
language certainly do not match the current exanimating syllabus. The oral and listening exams are
carried out in Cantonese in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE).
Even if the schools use Putonghua as the main medium of instruction in common lessons, they have to
switch back to Cantonese when students practicing past papers. This is apparently inefficient to

College Students and Sub-culture
Sub cultures are something everyone is a part of in any society they live in. Everyone lives in some
kind of culture; everyone has an ethnic background, a social standing, possible political, moral, and
religious views and each of these items submits that person into multiple sub groups within their
culture. I, myself, am a part of numerous sub cultures.
Starting with the largest I am a human being; I live and function as a human and not as an animal or
plant. This seems a little farfetched to apply as a sub culture but it is a proven fact that even some
animal groups have communities and cultures of their own. Also, there are even some humans who
choose to live an animalistic lifestyle. In addition, I am Caucasian or white ... Show more content on

With this being said that means that I am also part of a popular sub culture within American
Universities. Although, U.S. News reported in 2012 that Communication Studies was not among the
top five most popular majors at Troy University. According to these statistics students whose choses
major is Communication Studies make up less than 7% of the student population (U.S. News). So
although I can identify with many in this sub culture within America I cannot relate with nearly as
many people of this sub culture at Troy University. I can still create relationships with college students
in general despite my major.
There are not many nonverbal factors to analyze for this sub culture but there are quite a few verbal
factors. College students have a language of their own. They know the struggles of class schedules,
club meetings, registration, living on a dime, and buying books dirt cheap. This verbal code often
disconnects college students from people similar to their age due to the fact that much of the subjects
to be spoken about are quite different. This is not to say that college students cannot communicate
with non college students but they often find it easier to relate to those who understand their lingo,
joys, struggles, and more.
The societal class that college attendees belong to has always had the stigma of being the haves of
society. In recent years; however, many who attend college come from

Valley Fold Studios Marketing Mix
In our major project, we in Valley Fold Studios will be creating a puzzle game for touchscreen
devices, where the player manipulates paper like structures into origami in three dimensional space.
Our goal is to create a well polished product that can be released to the public, primarily as something
we can be proud of and use to promote ourselves, as well as to potentially create something that we
can sell.
The target market that we expect our game to appeal to is mobile gamers in general. We are targeting
the wide age range that is represented in mobile gaming with the median age being 27. We expect that
our game will be gender neutral, appealing mostly to a teenage and older audience as the puzzles will
require calm thinking to complete. We intend for the game to be playable in short sessions, with easy
to learn mechanics and simple yet involving puzzles, giving the game a pick up and play nature that
can be played while commuting or anywhere that the player has a few minutes of time to spare.
We intend to publish the game on one of, or both Google Play, and the Apple app store. Publishing to
android will most likely be an easier process as apple will require us to wait about six days or more for
the game to be reviewed, and there are 180 guidelines that the app must follow, however ... Show

Creating An Edible Gingerbread House
For many years, gingerbread houses have been made by families during Christmas season, as part of
Christmas festivities. Families gather around the table go bake and decorate gingerbread houses and
eat gingerbread cookies (Avey 2013). Some even participate in very competitive gingerbread house
making competitions. While these houses are very elaborate and take hours and hours of very hard
work, basic gingerbread houses are very easy to make and decorate (Bauer).
When creating an edible gingerbread house, the first step that needs to be completed is to gather all of
the materials needed to build and decorate the house. The materials needed are: half a cup (1 stick) of
room temperature butter, half a cup of dark brown sugar, one fourth of a cup of light molasses or dark
corn syrup, one tablespoon of cinnamon, one tablespoon of ground ginger, one and a half teaspoons of
ground cloves, one teaspoon of baking soda, two cups of white all purpose flour, two tablespoons of
water, white chocolate, one pound of powdered sugar, two large white eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla,
assorted candies, rimless cookie sheet, pastry bag (for icing), straight edged knife, thick paper, pencil,
ruler, and scissors. Candies are going to be used to decorate the house and should be chosen wisely
(Food Network).
Now the gingerbread for the gingerbread house can be started on. First, the butter should be creamed
in a large mixing bowl. After the butter is creamed, the brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon,

Bilingual-Bicultural Approach
Having a father with hearing loss I know a little about hearing aids and some of the testing that people
go through. I also knew that volume of the person speaking can be a sign of hearing loss, having a
former employ and friend who are both loud and both have partial hearing loss. I did also know about
the structure of the ear from biology courses and that hearing is measured in decibels. I did know that
children with hearing issues are normal or even gifted but they just may struggle from the lack of
hearing.

Analysis Of The Psychodynamic Approach
The psychodynamic approach was developed by Sigmund Freud between 1890 and 1930.
Psychodynamic approach in psychology emphasizes on systematic study of the psychological forces
that underline human behaviour , feelings and emotions and how these relate to early experience
(Hill,2001). The basis of this approach is that psychological factors play a major role in determining
behaviour and shaping personality. Freud (1961) divided the human mind into three parts the id, ego
and superego so as to determine and understand the root causes of unusual behaviour. Psychodynamic
approach helps the individual to recognize the unconscious which have an impact on behaviour. As a
result, psychodynamic approach provides a comprehensive framework that describes and explains
human personality (Freud,1925). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, psychodynamic approach helps to focus on childhood past experience and the impact on
present behaviour (Freud,1925). However, the psychodynamic approach is very determinist as it says
that suffering childhood traumas lead to abnormal behaviour in adulthood (Mcleod,2015). As a result
it ignores the influence of genes, biological components and thinking patterns (Freud,1961).
Furthermore, psychoanalysis depends on the therapist interpretation of what the client says. As a result
the concepts can be biased as they are based on the therapist intervention. However, psychodynamic
utilises practical application and optimistic view that helps psychologists to treat mental disorders and
psychological distress (Luyten et al

Bruno is bringing Shmuel food and notices that he is not in good health. He is also starting to see his

going to happen to him. I also think that as Bruno got older he became more knowledgeable and had a
better understanding of what was going on at that time in Germany and other European countries. The

The Conversation Between Men And Women
In the article Talk in the Intimate Relationship: His and Hers by Deborah Tannen, you will begin to see
and discover the differences in conversation between men and women. Discussed throughout this
paper are the importance of metamessages, an overview of Tannen s article, whether Tannen is fair in
her article toward both men and women and whether I agree with Tannen s article as well as
experiences of my peer s and myself. Part 1: Metamessages Deborah Tannen defines metamessages as
a way you want to be understood without saying what you mean explicitly in words and you must
convey meaning somewhere else in how words are spoken. Tannen points out that it stands to reason
that women are often more attuned than men to the metamessages of talk. She makes a point as to how
significant metamessages are. She also explains that metamessages are a form of indirectness and that
women try to reach agreement through negotiation, which is also a women s way of displaying
solidarity or power. Tannen gives an example of a wedding anniversary where the women wanted to
have the cake served that night because they were thinking of the metamessage; serving a special cake
frames an occasion as a celebration. The men suggested it was a good idea to save the cake for the
next day, focusing on the message that the cake is just food. Tannen says that women are more used to
metamessages because unlike men, women pay more attention to involvement and through
metamessages, relationships between

Common Components Of Digital Database Management Applications
A DBMS can also provide many perspectives of a single database schema. A perspective characterizes
what information the client sees and how that client sees the information. The DBMS gives a level of
reflection between the reasonable diagram which characterizes the legitimate structure of the database
and the physical construction that portrays the records, files and other physical instruments utilized by
the database. At the point when a DBMS is utilized, frameworks can be adjusted all the more
effectively when business prerequisites changes. New classifications of information can be added to

Culture, Race, and Gender in Sports Essay

for their gender/sex, many social and moral issues will arise challenging that person involved in that

the sport. Before any of these questions are asked, there must be a redefinition of gender roles,
femininity, and masculinity. In order for a person to enter a non traditional sport for their gender/sex

Through the movies viewed in this course this semester, we saw women who were able to play against
men and still keep their femininity. Nothing is lost when playing sports not traditionally meant for a
particular race or gender. Society must become more understanding when it comes to the sports
different types of people play and hinder from stereotyping anyone when they participate and perform
well in that sport. When women decide to participate in sports traditionally for men such as
bodybuilding, they risk the chance of being socially stereotyped as lesbians, or simply viewed as less
feminine then say women figure skaters. For example, Venus Williams is seen as criticized for being
very masculine in build and judged on that by her performance. The media has commented on how
well she plays, and has compared her to men in her sport. She receives fewer endorsements than many
other tennis players do because of her looks (but mainly due to her race). Men place themselves in the
same situation when they chose to perform/participate in traditional female sports like field hockey,
socially stereotyped as gay or less masculine than hockey players. There has been a change in the way
certain gender sports were viewed when women/men attempted to challenge the boundaries.
Gymnastics for example began as an all male sport. It was believed that women did not have the build
nor strength to compete in this sport. In 1928 were women allowed to compete in the Olympics in

Analysis Of Forster s The Machine Stops
In 1909, E.M. Forster wrote a short story called The Machine Stops. Interestingly, this story seemed to
give a small prediction of our social media today. In it, humans have eschewed physical interaction for
solitary existences in separate underground rooms. However, they do continue communicate audibly.
This is just done through phone like pads and screens. In this situation, The Machine provides
everything that humans needs and it is not questioned. It is basically the totalitarian manifestation of
the Internet (Allfree). In Forster s story, The Machine isn t questioned until Vashti s son, Kuno, who
lives on the other side of earth wants to see her (Allfree). Of course, this is not how we use social
media as the majority of people still leave their houses and at times don t use electronic devices and
actually interact with each other on a physical basis. However, it does sound like something theatrical
and Neil Duffield did bring an adaption of The Machine Stops to the United Kingdom where it will be
directed by Julie Forster in June 2016 (Allfree). Even more interesting is that while this is one way
social media may be approached in theatre, theatre can also be approached, appreciated, and reviewed
via social media. Social media gives people an ease of use, is a quick way to communicate, and it is
able to reach many people. Because of these things, social media is quickly changing trends and
agendas in topics that range from the environment

Black Elk And The Struggle Of Faith
Black Elk and the Struggle of Faith
The story of Nicholas Black Elk was one that was reluctantly told, a Lakota medicine man, a visionary
of his own sort. Written by John G. Neihardt, Black Elk Speaks captures the essence of what the
Lakota culture based its teachings off of, as well as exhibiting who Black Elk really was. When
Neihardt began his dialogues with Black Elk he knew which questions to ask, his plan was clear from
the beginning. There were choices made by Neihardt that seem controversial, such as why he decided
to end his book at the Battle of Wounded Knee instead of continuing through Black Elk s life and his
conversion to Catholicism. The steps taken by Neihardt succeeded in portraying Black Elk s own
story, and the importance of his vision on his life. Black Elk himself can be looked upon as a character
within an all encompassing realm of change. From the time that he was a boy he had been instilled
with the fear of the Wasichu , as well as the virtues of the Lakota religion. A short way into the telling
of his story, Black Elk shares with Neihardt that at the age of 9, he had a vision. As rudimentary as it
sounds, this vision can be attributed with shaping Black Elk s whole life. Black Elk s recollection of
the vision is impeccable, not a detail goes unremembered. Without much evidence as to what caused
Black Elk to fall sick, the book describes swelling and what would be thought of today as
hallucinations. Black Elk only finds his vision because he is

Bowling For Columbine Essay
As humans living in a modern sociological time period, the truth can be cleverly and ingeniously
twisted by film directors to convince us that their sole opinions are factual. This is most definitely no
exception regarding Academy Award winning filmmaker Michael Moore and his documentary
Bowling for Columbine.
Michael Moore explores the lead up to the Columbine massacre and more broadly, the proliferation of
guns and rapidly growing homicide rate in America. Moore also investigates the reason as to why
Canada, in comparison to America, does not have the same rate of gun related crimes.
The alarming and disturbing tragedy befalling on April 20, 1999 at America s Columbine High School
is an act reflecting the extraordinarily high rate of gun related violence of American society. ... Show

Protestors demanded that Manson should not perform.
One anonymous speaker announced that Marilyn Manson s music promoted what he called
Columbine like behaviour, such as hate, violence, death, suicide, and drug use.
The world is rightly outraged by Marilyn s music due to its prominent association with the Columbine
High School massacre.
A question that proficient critiques ask themselves is this: How do documentary directors purposely
evoke certain emotions within their key scenes? It is clearly apparent that viewers are positioned to
believe Moore s point of view due to his clever use of persuasive techniques.
One major scene that has the tendency to evoke the emotions of carelessness and insensitiveness is the
What a Wonderful World sequence. The astute decision to incorporate images of deceased and brutally
incapacitated American s generates sympathy and ultimately results in the support of Michael Moore s
viewpoint.
In Bowling for Columbine, film director Michael Moore utilises the use of file footage and inclusion
of comedy satire to assist in reinforcing his idea of the

The Annual Spending On Renewable Energy
The annual spending on renewable energy by the Department of Defense (DOD) will reach $10 billion
by 2030 (Schueneman). Right now the military proves to be one of the highest consumers of
renewable energy. They are also responsible for using and burning the most fossil fuels in the entire
country. The DoD realizes this and that s why they are working so hard to become a greener military.
In order to enhance the security of the American people and to address the every changing
requirements of sustainability, the U.S. military is urgently trying to reduce its footprint on the world..

A lot of military leaders where already well aware of the sustainability issues going on within the
DoD. Admiral John Nathman, USN (Ret.), former Commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command
under President George W. Bush, put it this way: There are serious risks to doing nothing about
climate change. We can pay now or we re going to pay a whole lot later. The U.S. has a unique
opportunity to become energy independent, protect our national security and boost our economy while
reducing our carbon footprint. We ve been a model of success for the rest of the world in the past and
now we must lead the way on climate change (Schueneman)
The military as a whole has realized that their sustainability efforts haven t been the best and they are
doing enormous amounts of work to change that. Some may argue that the DoD isn t concerned about
sustainability because the Pentagon generates five times more toxins than the five major US chemical
companies combined and is considered the single largest domestic consumer of oil (Sustainability). In
all actuality the DoD and the Pentagon is well aware of this. That is why they are pushing for these
huge sustainability changes. They know that they are a large role model and in order to change the
image of the U.S. they first need to change their own image. The Departments of the Navy, Army, and
the Air Force, are all making big changes to help with this new mission; to

Jay-Z s From The Frying Pan Into The Fire
Hip hop is a culture created by people who felt that some aspects of the culture of capitalism did not
fit them. Hip hop was able to give them a form of expression, a means of earning and a better
representation for themselves. In Jay Z s essay One Eye Open , Jay Z shares his account, as a pioneer
of the genre itself, of how hip hop started to gain its popularity and standing back when he was a
young child and how it provides the people means to support their needs. In her essay From the Frying
Pan into the Fire , Arlie Russell Hochschild shares what does it take to create a culture, she focused on
how the capitalist economic system became a culture itself instead of supporting one. Although hip
hop may have started out as an opposition to some of the values of capitalism, a lot of aspects of the
hip hop culture thrive from the capitalist economy, it just follows a different set of rules.
Even though many might think that hip hop is a form of art and that capitalism is an economic system,
that is not all that they are, they can also be identified as cultural systems. A culture is created when
groups of people start to have unique social patterns, like their own food, cloth, language and what
not. Another way a culture is created is through rituals and an ideology that a group of people start
following. The culture of capitalism was created through the anxieties to which it poses itself as a
necessary answer (Hochschild 145). For this reason, what used to be just an

The Comparison Of Premium Saltines And Ritz Crackers
Casseroles, baked mac and cheese, fried fish, meatloaf and pies what do all of these have in common?
For starters, crackers can be found as an ingredient in each. While there are a variety of crackers to
choose from, the most commonly used are Premium Saltines and Ritz crackers. Although both are
versatile in uses, each have their own list of pros and cons. To assist in the decision making process,
based on points of contrast such as: flavor, nutrition, and price, consumers are better off purchasing
Premium Saltines for their cracker needs.
Formerly located in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the Josiah Bent Bakery, is credited for the creation
of the saltine cracker as far back as 1801. However, it was not until 1876 that the first name brand
saltine cracker, Premium, rose to popularity. Major advertising for Premium did not begin until the

The Evolution Of A Gentleman

The Evolution of a Gentleman
Confucianism is based off of many diverse concepts, some of which are the junzi and the xiaoren.
These terms have been widely interpreted throughout time, and make up most of this concept. In order
to understand Confucianism, one must first understand the significance of these two notions. A junzi
(gentleman) and xiaoren (small man) are very important aspects of Confucianism and have distinct
meanings, qualities, and modern day societal attributes. While a junzi (gentleman) is defined one way
by Confucius, a xiaoren (small man) would be considered the contrary. As defined by Confucius, a
gentleman is an individual who lives by a moral code, not motivated by gain, but by what is right. A
small man is the complete opposite. A small man is an individual who lives to benefit and for selfish
reasons. Confucius states that gentlemen lead others through their actions demonstrated through:
When gentlemen perform well, all their duties to their relations, the people are inspired to virtue
(Chichung).1 Gentlemen are very selfless, unlike small men, and strive to be better men and better
citizens. People in turn strive to be like a gentleman. In early interpretations, a gentleman was viewed
as inherently superior to a small man and seen as a prince. The later interpretation translated it, not as
a ruler, but as a moral person who leads by his actions and honor. Society is built up by gentlemen and

Analysis Of How To Close A Gender Gap By Claire Miller
In How to Close a Gender Gap, author Claire Miller asserts that increased flexibility in the workplace
could take notable strides towards eliminating the gender pay gap. Miller cites research that has
concluded the high expectation for extended periods of time to be spent at the desk working can partly
explain the gap because they have disproportionate responsibility (1) when it comes to taking care of
children. This is inopportune for women because they want to be rewarded for their hard work, and
that goal should not be sacrificed by the choice to have a child. To add to her claim, the author
describes a company called Werk that offer flexible hours and do not require all work to be completed
at an office. As referred to in the text, research

The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles
There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude
toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey on
arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive intense
fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law requiring sex
offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an International Megan s
Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their status added to their
passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex crime. Most people consider
pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a child and that all pedophiles will
commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth. The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines
the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving
intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either
been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. With
the latter half of this definition, we begin to open up to the idea that there are those who have sexual
interests in children who have had no form of inappropriate contact with a child, but rather just have
their daily life affected by the feelings that they are having toward

Comparing The Sioux And Chippewa Indian Tribe
The Sioux and Chippewa Indian tribes have a drastically different way of living compared to what
other people are accustomed to in terms of their history, clothing, tools, and weapons needed for
survival. The Sioux Indians were originally from Asia, but migrated to America about 30,000 years
ago. Their long, straight jet black hair resembles that of the Asian descendants. The Sioux tribes were
located in The Great Plains, which consists of 7 different states Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and
South Dakota; however, they were also known to live in parts of Nebraska, Illinois, and Montana. The
name Sioux is an abbreviation of Nadouessioux. (Britannica) The name was given to them by the
Ojibwa (Chippewa). Sioux means, Little snake . The Sioux tended to follow the pattern of the buffalo,
which is why they are found in multiple locations. The Sioux tribe followed the buffalo migration
because that is what they would mostly eat apart from elk and deer. They used each part of the buffalo
for many purposes. They carved the horns into cups and spoons. The teeth became tools and
decorations, and were used in ceremonial rattles. The brain was used to process leather. Bones were
made into knives, arrowheads, and shovels. Hides were used to make teepee covers, clothes, belts,
bag, dolls, and shoes. The hair was used for headdresses and to stuff pillows, pad saddles and weave
ropes. The tongue, heart, and liver were eaten right away. Muscles were cut into strips and preserved
as jerky.

China.
The Indus River Valley civilization society was based around a social hierarchy, which was divided
into groups based upon occupations. The highest group of the social hierarchy was the Brahmins, or
also known as priests. The second highest group of the hierarchy was the Kshatriyas, or warriors. The
third group were called the Vaisyas, which consisted of the herders, farmers, artisans, and merchants.
The fourth group consisted of people who had little or no Aryan heritage called the Sudras, they
consisted of farm workers, servants, and other laborers. The lowest group of the social hierarchy was
the dalits, they did work no one else wanted to do. Their social class determined who they could
marry, what kind of education they could get, where they could live, and what jobs they could get.

Cultural Identity Among Sudanese Youth
Who are we? A study on cultural identity among Sudanese youth. Background Who am I or who are
we? are both questions that require in depth knowledge of identity. A complex sociological and
psychological phenomenon, identity has been classified into many types. Self identity is defined as an
individual s awareness and expression of their distinctive characteristics. Weinreich (1986) highlighted
that it is influenced by both the individual s past experiences and future aspirations and contributes to
the formation of one s self esteem, and individuality. It also indicates the individual s capacity for self
reflection (Leary Tangney 2003). Cultural identity is the shared identity by all members of a social
group and describes the expression of that group s affiliations (Weinreich Saunderson 2003). It helps
them gain a sence of belonging and creates strong bonds of association. This sence of cultural identity
can be through similarities in nationality, locality, ethnicity, social class, religion, generation or any
form of distinct social group characteristics. However, there may be differences between members
with these shared cultures. Ancestry, skin tone, spoken language, and political attitudes can all
distinguish between individuals within social groups (Holliday, 2010). This can lead to discrimination,
tribalism and racism as society members evaluate those who are in the group from those who are out
of the group (Cote Levine 2002). Sudan has a population

Characteristics Of Myer-Briggs Personality
This paper explores the personality traits of the Myer Briggs personality INFJ. Research for this
assignment was conducted using the text book, the internet, and my personal account. While
completing this project I gained a better sense of self and an individual, leader, and worker. It is my
hope that this project can be used as a resource for others who have the same personality type as
myself. Step 1 INFJ INFJ is my personality type. Upon finding my personality type I engulfed myself
into finding any information available. What I discovered was that my strong sense of intuition is what
I allow to lead my decisions. I also found confirmation that, I enjoy my alone time, I follow my
passion, and I do not agree in doing things for the sake of doing them. This was extremely insightful,
and although I know who I am it was enlightening to see research that explained who I was and why I
act the way that I do. Life examples Growing up I was never shy, but I never felt the need to be the
center of attention. However, when it was time to step up to the plate, I was always able to do so with
ease. Often times my lack of shyness would leave my peers surprised that I was so good at certain
things, because they never heard me talking much of myself. This transferred over to the work place
as well. Up until recently I have been a classroom teacher. On several occasions my principals would
disclose that they were shocked that I was so energetic. When I am in meetings I would not speak
unless I had something meaningful to say. As a result, I think that would cause others to assume that I
was one of low energy and unable to fulfil request that required a lot of speaking. Strengths and
weaknesses Having a strong sense of self is a characteristic of my personality type. I take pride in my
self awareness. In addition, I enjoy having a strong intuition. I believe that this has aided me in
making smart decisions in life, at work, and in general. I feel the best thing about self awareness is
you are not easily offended when you are misunderstood. An example of this at work happened when
there was a disagreement between myself and my boss. She began to say a lot of derogatory
statements to me. While it was hurtful

Rousseau And Wollstonecraft On The Lack Of Equality
Rousseau and Wollstonecraft on the Lack of Equality We are not supposed to be all equal. Let s just
forget that. We are supposed to have equal rights under law. If we do that, we have done enough. said
Ben Stein, an iconic commentator on political and economic issues. But is it enough? Of course
everyone is not born equal but if we were to be alike under the law, does that mean inequalities are to
disappear in households and in governments? If we re not supposed to be equal according to Ben, then
where does inequality come from and what are the consequences of it? Jean Jacques Rousseau in The
Basic Political Writings and Mary Wollstonecraft in A Vindication of the Rights of Woman serves to
answers those questions. The two authors offer a very different assessment from each other on the
matter but for me personally, I can relate to both sides of the argument. Rousseau s claim that nearly
all inequalities result from social institutions is very appealing because it s essentially claiming to be
the origin of inequality and Wollstonecraft on the other hand dives deeper into the subject matter to
discuss a very specific inequality, the lack of gender equality and the consequences of it. ... Show

Rousseau argues that people are naturally equal before societies existed because people lived in

drove humans to find food and shelter, pity on the other hand is what led humans to create society
because naturally humans cannot stand to see others suffer and perish. Thus, the creation of societies

David Tudor s Framing
The third argument discusses the idea of framing as a way of organizing sound. For this argument,
Davies does not consider David Tudor s lowering and raising of the piano and therefore framing as
organizing sound, he says that this framing does not count as selection or appropriation of the sounds
of a performance of the work (Kania). This does not make sense to Kania because sounds without
framing cannot exactly be called music, but during 4 33 the framing does occur and therefore it does
lead to an organization of sound (Kania). The fourth and final argument examines that there must be
noise along with the organized sounds in the performance environment for it to be able to be
considered organized. Usually, in musical performances, the

The Stories Of Sherwood Anderson’S Winesburg, Ohio Are
The stories of Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio are an intersecting group of tales that emphasize
the grotesque over a wide spectrum. While some of Anderson s stories focus upon the physical
grotesque, other characterizations demonstrate the ability of the human psyche to exemplify the
grotesque. Such is the case with Anderson s short story Hands. Hands is a story of society s tendency
to marginalize those who can be categorized as grotesque, or those who simply refuse categorization
entirely. Anderson s tale of social isolation utilizes the image of the hands to symbolize the emotional
expression of Wing Biddlebaum in order to drive an implicit theme that emotional internalization and
social isolation is a veritable prison.

Nevertheless, Wing is still plagued by doubts about his hands and is striving to conceal them even in
the fields. Anderson writes, The hands alarmed their owner. He wanted to keep them hidden away and
looked with amazement at the quiet inexpressive hands of other men who worked beside him in the
fields, or passed, driving sleepy teams on country roads (Anderson 4). Another recurring image is
Wing s tendency to hide his hands in his pockets. This image occurs several times over the duration of
Anderson s story. In another instance Anderson writes, Wing Biddlebaum talked much with his hands.
The slender expressive fingers, forever active, forever striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or
behind his back, came forth and became the piston rods of his machinery of expression (Anderson 3).
This image is repeated again when Wing is conversing with George. Wing is horrified by the sight of
his own hands and With a convulsive movement of his body, Wing Biddlebaum sprang to his feet and
thrust his hands deep into his trousers pockets (Anderson 5).
This imagery involving hands being thrust into pockets is intended by Anderson to be a metaphor for
prison. Wing s hands are repeatedly described in terms of birds. Biddlebaum s own name reflects this
very idea. According to Anderson, The story of Wing Biddlebaum is a story of hands. Their restless
activity, like unto the beating of the wings of an imprisoned bird, had given him his

Red Meat Vs White Meat Research Paper
It is a controversial discussion over which meat is better: red or white meat? Both red and white meat
are good sources of protein and provide many beneficial nutrients that help with body function.
Protein is important in supporting the immune system and necessary for human consumption to
maintain a healthy balance. Many humans commonly consume meat as a source of protein. In
deciding what to consume, it is important to choose wisely to avoid risk of negative health effects.
Risk of various health issues can be increased through consumption of meats high in fat and

Red meat is associated with a increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and colorectal cancer.
Red meat may also contain harmful hormones that increase risk of breast cancer. Although the iron

unprocessed red meat was tied to a 13 percent increase in overall mortality risk (Jaslow). Another
issue is that when grilling, heterocylic amines, compounds linked to cancer, are released. As stated,
processed meat is unhealthier for consumption. Pork often comes in the form of processed meat which
is associated with increased risk for cancer. An additional problem is the harboring of bacteria in meat.
Cattle are often associated with harboring E.coli which may lead to E. coli poisoning upon
consumption. Studies support the idea that red meat and processed meat may increase risk of

Horse Behavior Analysis
Deemed the most dangerous animal veterinary students must work with, horse behavior is often
misunderstood among even the most well versed horsemen (Gronqvist, Rogers, Gee, Martinez,
Bolwell, 2017). Equines have a complex range of emotions which are expressed through specific body
language well known to owners. Sometimes these aggressive and/or anxious actions can show up
suddenly which leaves caretakers confused and looking for a solution. The behaviors specifically
include standoffish movements, biting, kicking, pinning ears back, and other similar actions. Not only
can this sudden change in demeanor be concerning, but it can also be a hazard to anyone around the
animal. These outbursts can be triggered by situations such as past experiences, ... Show more content

This would be a specified amount of exercise through riding, and ground care such as grooming and
hand grazing. The dependent variable is the observed demeanor which is ranked on the behavior scale
that ranges from one (complacent), to seven (vicious). This scale system is formulated based off of
groupings of body language and how dangerous they are to potential handlers. Data on temperament is
recorded daily with a point value from the scale awarded to each horse at the end of each encounter.
When averaged, a decreasing weekly score suggests that the animal s behavior is less aggressive over
time. Therefore, the demeanor of the animal is judged to be improving. Any aggression seen in the
pasture is not be taken in to account since this is deemed naturalistic within a herd. During this study, I
am assuming that the horses are receiving similar amounts of attention. Also, I will assume that the
animals are not acting out in response to another issue, such as a hormonal imbalance or mating. In
this way, results will suggest that the behavior is not psychological (in other words, related to
emotion), but instead physiological (medical). I expect internal validity since these animals are not
giving any specific treatment currently. Any specific change in behavior indicates a causal relationship
among the variables. One consideration is that my sample size is small, but this is not uncommon
when dealing with studies in the equine field. Another is that some animals may have past
psychological damage since many are rescues. It is possible that aggression is in response to unknown
problems (masked medical issues) that have no relation to behavior. This would mean that attention
would not provoke a change. As a final consideration, the study would take place during mating
season which could cause some natural aggression. A Kennesaw Mountain High School IRB

Theme Of Psycho And The Talented Mr. Ripley
The 1960 Alfred Hitchcock classic thriller, Psycho and the psychological thriller novel, The Talented
Mr.Ripley by notable American author Patricia Highsmith both challenge the audience s perception of
the noir protagonist through pronounced exploration controversial themes via the. Through the use of
a range of stylistic features, the authors aim to blur the line between innocence and guilt in order to
develop a false sense of empathy for the protagonists Tom Ripley and Norman Bates (Anthony
Perkins). Characterisation of both of these protagonists, used in a way that forces the audience to
connect with them and adopt an controversial point of view, transforms the audiences perception of
how the murderer of a psychological thriller should behave. Hitchcock uses ... Show more content on

Highsmith and Hitchcock use characterization as the central means of forcing the audience to develop
a connection with the protagonists in both texts by using it to portray them as average people. The
most obvious technique used in creating an engaging picture for both characters is the consonance in
their names. Both Thomas Ripley and Norman Bates are short and average names, which are not
likely to spark an interest in the reader s mind. For this reason the reader is not able to have any
preconceived notions of either character purely on a basis of their name. In both texts, the protagonists
are shown as well spoken young men with calm exteriors. Norman Bates and Tom Ripley are
introduced as average young men, who also seems lonely and gentle, therefore the audience is forced
to develop sympathy for his character from the beginning of the texts. They both wear modest,
conservative clothing; Highsmith s first description of Tom Ripley s costume a suit and a striped tie
suggests a moderate level of formality in his costume which during the time that the book was written
(1955), would resemble the look of the everyday man. Norman Bates is introduced in pants, a

Irregular Migrants: Amnesty and Right to Stay
Introduction:
Irregular migrants are people living in a nation illegally. They do not have the citizenship of the
country, or they might have come in as illegal refugees. Residents in another nation with visas but they
have passed they due date or has expired without having obtained the citizenship of the particular
nation are also viewed as irregular migrants in that particular country. Liberal democratic countries, on
the other hand, are those that are not lead under a dictatorship. Progressive countries allow free and
fair election to multi parties. They also give rights and freedom to its citizens. In most case,
progressive governments also give certain privileges to their citizens such as freedom for adults above
the age of 18years to vote and freedom of employment. They also provide free public education to its
citizens and access to healthcare services in public hospitals.
The debate over the years, however, has been whether liberal democratic nations should tolerate the
entry of irregular migrants into their countries. Questions have also been asked as to what legal and
moral obligation these nations have over the vulnerability of illegal migrants into ... Show more

Colonial America Without The Indians Axtell Summary
Native Americans, or Indians, as they were mistakenly called, have been the pathetic footnotes to the
main course of American history (Axtell 981). But James Axtell, the author of Colonial America
without the Indians: Counterfactual Reflections, would beg to differ. He says that instead, Indians
played a key role in making America great. James Murray gives another term to describe America s
greatness: America s exceptionalism. Throughout his article Axtell makes many points as to why
Indians played a vital role in American Exceptionalism . He even says that America wouldn t have
been colonized nearly as soon if the Indians were gone, because Columbus would know he was not in
the Indies and move on. So because they simply existed in the first place, Axtell says they were
significant in the history of our country. Furthermore, he says Indians specifically played a vital role in
the exceptionality of America s early economy, culture, and historical events and places.
I never thought about how much the Indians contributed to the economy of early colonial America.
However, without the Native Americans There would have been no maize or Indian corn, the staple
crop grown throughout the colonial period to feed people and sometimes fatten livestock for export
(Axtell 988). I believe Mr. Axtell raises an excellent point in this statement. Without the Indians to
teach the early settlers, they would never have survived the harsh winters, and would have starved and
died out very

local brands are usually lower than those of international brands, providing consumers as sense of

Examples Of Schizophrenia In The Black Cat
Schizophrenia in The Black Cat
First published in 1843, Edgar Allen Poe s short story, The Black Cat , has many unidentifiable
motives to a healthy mind. However, many actions in the story directly correlate with modern day
schizophrenia. Recent studies have shown alcoholism, as well as cat ownership, go hand in hand with
schizophrenia.
The Black Cat took readers into the mind, understanding the thoughts and actions of what is
assumably a schizophrenic person. Poe describes himself as becoming more regardless of the feelings
of others as his life progressed (4). His manner was unusual and believed demons possessed him. The
afore mentioned characteristics that Poe displays resemble the characteristics of recent schizophrenia.

Native American Oppression in Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and
Indian Killer Sherman Joseph Alexie was born on October 7, 1966. He grew up on the Spokane Indian
Reservation and now resides in Seattle, Washington. Sherman Alexie was asked in an interview, When
did you start writing? and his answer was simple, I started writing because I kept fainting in human
anatomy class and needed a career change. The only class that fit where the human anatomy class had
been was a poetry writing workshop. I always liked poetry (Highway 2). Alexie has written several
novels, most of which express the oppression and problems of Native Americans, including The Lone
Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and Indian Killer. In The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in
Heaven, we read a collection of twenty two stories all about young male protagonists and their

  • 2. Essay on Leonardo Da Vinci Leonardo Da Vinci Most people probably think of Leonardo Da Vinci as just a painter but in reality he was actually also a expert drawer, an ingenious inventor, and a marvelous scientist. Over a period of twenty five years Leonard dissected around thirty human bodies as well as cows, birds, frogs, bears, and monkeys. Of these bodies he made over two hundred tedious drawings. Another thing to remember is beings the process of drawing took so long the bodies would start decomposing before he was finished with all of the drawings in which he intended to make. Leonardo Da Vinci was born on Saturday April 15, 1452. His father named Ser Piero Da Vinci was an important man, leading citizen who studied at the University of Vinci, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As most people know Leonardo was a magnificent artist however some people don t realize being an artist doesn t always mean you re good at painting and drawing. Leonardo was originally brought to the Moor who ruled the duchy of Milan by music not art. The Moor became Leonardo s patron after Leonardo painted an altarpiece for the Church of San Francesco Grande. When the Moor decided to make a bronze statue of his father on horseback Leonardo stepped up to take on the task. Leonardo planned to make the horse first then make the rider separately and add it on later. He studied horses drawing the best the Moor had in his stable he also measured them even dissecting horses to make sure he had the plans just right. In 1493 Leonardo displayed his clay model that was full size. He still had to cast the enormous statue, which could prove to be the hardest part of making the sculpture. He invented a new way to get all the molten bronze into the mold quickly so it didn t crack when it cooled. When all the bronze required to make the statue (more than seventy tons) was gathered and the molds made the Moor used the bronze to make cannons. The would be eighth wonder of the world was never cast and when the French captured Milan in 1499 the soldiers used Leonardo s clay model for target practice. It eventually crumbled so even the model of the would be eighth wonder of the world is not around today. As an artist Leonardo also made three famous paintings. The Last ... • 3. Stroke Research Papers Stroke, also known as cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States today. In any given year, approximately 800,000 Americans will suffer a stroke, with nearly 25% dying acutely or from subsequent complications over the following 12 months. This article will describe the pathogenesis of the major types of stroke and briefly discuss some treatment options. Thromboembolic Strokes 85% of strokes result from a thrombus, or blood clot, blocking the flow of oxygenated blood to the brain. This scenario often occurs in the context of undiagnosed or undertreated atrial fibrillation. In atrial fibrillation, the abnormal fluttering movement of the heart s atrial chambers increases the chances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The blood vessel in question may be a branch of a middle cerebral artery, producing the symptoms described above. In other cases, the vessel may be located deep inside the brain, causing a so called lacunar infarct, which can result in sensory or motor deficits (but seldom both). Hemorrhagic strokes can also result from head trauma or therapy with anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin. Currently, there is no specific treatment for most hemorrhagic strokes other than supportive care followed by occupational, physical, and speech therapy. In the appendix of this book, I propose a novel approach to acute stroke management. The most catastrophic form of hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a weak, bulging region in a blood vessel wall called an aneurysm ruptures, leading to a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Intracranial aneurysms are more common in people with polycystic kidney disease; still, the majority of cases are sporadic. People suffering from an SAH complain of the worst headache of their lives and often experience seizures and loss of consciousness. Even with prompt hospitalization and surgical intervention, 30% of SAH victims do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Yemen Conflict In The United States Yemen is a nation that has spent more of its years in a state of conflict rather than peace. The Middle Eastern nation, approximately the size of the state of California, has experienced all forms conflict to include: interstate, intrastate, non state and one sided conflict (UCDP, 2016). In 1990, following numerous conflicts, North and South Yemen finally unified. While the unification was peaceful, animosity between sides remained under the surface. In 1994, a short civil war erupted only lasting several months until the secession was terminated (UCDP, 2016). However, the national sentiments remained, laying the foundation for civil war to reignite in even greater force in 2014. According to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UDCP) Yemen has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Yemen government has historically been weak, lacked in control, effectiveness and stability (Mitchell, 2012). The nation is accustomed to all forms of conflict, particularly civil, making it more likely for civil war to reoccur (DeRouen, 2015). The weak and transitional state of the government provided rebel groups, in this particular instance, Ansaruallah, the opportunity to rebel against the central government and ignite a civil war. While the opportunity was present for the rebellion to occur, the underlying longstanding grievances with the government were arguably the primary factors leading to the conflict. The Yemeni people have been impoverished, suffering from famine and water shortages and lacking any economic stability (Laub, 2015). Yemenis do not receive adequate care or protection from the government and therefore they look to the more powerful rebel groups within their borders (Mitchell, 2012). These groups are able to gain in power due to territorial advantages, recruitment of enraged and desperate citizens and lack of opposition against them (Fearon, 2012). At the time of the governmental transition and the Arab Spring movement, protests were ongoing. The Yemen government decided to strike out against protesters and killed over 40 civilians (UCDP, 2016). This event, coupled with the previously outlined grievances ... • 7. Essay On Putonghua There has been a long debate on whether Putonghua should be used in teaching Chinese Language in the society since the Curriculum Development Council has identified Putonghua as the Medium of Instruction in 1999. However, Cantonese is the mother tongue of the majority of Hong Kong student for decades. Under this premise, Cantonese should be used instead of Putonghua in teaching Chinese in Hong Kong secondary schools to enhance both the quality and efficiency of teaching. To begin with, using Cantonese as the medium of instruction could probably improve student s performance on learning classical Chinese. Cantonese is the mother tongue of the majority of Hong Kong secondary students. It is generally believed that student feel more confident when they are asked to speak in a language used in their daily life. In contrast, using Putonghua to teach Chinese may cause learning obstacles. Students need to learn a new set of pronunciation and usage of words. Both speaking and listening have to be managed in a language that they are not as familiar as Cantonese. This probably discourage student from class discussion. Cantonese does not contain these barriers. Therefore student is likely to focus on deeper levels of language features and improve the teaching effectiveness. According to the study done by The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research ( SCOLAR ), there is no clear evidence or statistic can prove that using Putonghua as the medium of instruction can enhance teaching efficiency (Chan, 2015) . Besides, the adoption of using Putonghua to teach Chinese language certainly do not match the current exanimating syllabus. The oral and listening exams are carried out in Cantonese in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE). Everyone lives in some kind of culture; everyone has an ethnic background, a social standing, possible political, moral, and religious views and each of these items submits that person into multiple sub groups within their culture. I, myself, am a part of numerous sub cultures. Starting with the largest I am a human being; I live and function as a human and not as an animal or plant. This seems a little farfetched to apply as a sub culture but it is a proven fact that even some animal groups have communities and cultures of their own. According to these statistics students whose choses major is Communication Studies make up less than 7% of the student population (U.S. News). So although I can identify with many in this sub culture within America I cannot relate with nearly as many people of this sub culture at Troy University. I can still create relationships with college students in general despite my major. There are not many nonverbal factors to analyze for this sub culture but there are quite a few verbal factors. College students have a language of their own. They know the struggles of class schedules, club meetings, registration, living on a dime, and buying books dirt cheap. This verbal code often disconnects college students from people similar to their age due to the fact that much of the subjects to be spoken about are quite different. This is not to say that college students cannot communicate with non college students but they often find it easier to relate to those who understand their lingo, joys, struggles, and more. Valley Fold Studios Marketing Mix In our major project, we in Valley Fold Studios will be creating a puzzle game for touchscreen devices, where the player manipulates paper like structures into origami in three dimensional space. Our goal is to create a well polished product that can be released to the public, primarily as something we can be proud of and use to promote ourselves, as well as to potentially create something that we can sell. The target market that we expect our game to appeal to is mobile gamers in general. We are targeting the wide age range that is represented in mobile gaming with the median age being 27. We expect that our game will be gender neutral, appealing mostly to a teenage and older audience as the puzzles will require calm thinking to complete. We intend for the game to be playable in short sessions, with easy to learn mechanics and simple yet involving puzzles, giving the game a pick up and play nature that can be played while commuting or anywhere that the player has a few minutes of time to spare. We intend to publish the game on one of, or both Google Play, and the Apple app store. • 10. Creating An Edible Gingerbread House For many years, gingerbread houses have been made by families during Christmas season, as part of Christmas festivities. Families gather around the table go bake and decorate gingerbread houses and eat gingerbread cookies (Avey 2013). Some even participate in very competitive gingerbread house making competitions. While these houses are very elaborate and take hours and hours of very hard work, basic gingerbread houses are very easy to make and decorate (Bauer). When creating an edible gingerbread house, the first step that needs to be completed is to gather all of the materials needed to build and decorate the house. The materials needed are: half a cup (1 stick) of room temperature butter, half a cup of dark brown sugar, one fourth of a cup of light molasses or dark corn syrup, one tablespoon of cinnamon, one tablespoon of ground ginger, one and a half teaspoons of ground cloves, one teaspoon of baking soda, two cups of white all purpose flour, two tablespoons of water, white chocolate, one pound of powdered sugar, two large white eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla, assorted candies, rimless cookie sheet, pastry bag (for icing), straight edged knife, thick paper, pencil, ruler, and scissors. Candies are going to be used to decorate the house and should be chosen wisely (Food Network). Now the gingerbread for the gingerbread house can be started on. • 12. Analysis Of The Psychodynamic Approach The psychodynamic approach was developed by Sigmund Freud between 1890 and 1930. Psychodynamic approach in psychology emphasizes on systematic study of the psychological forces that underline human behaviour , feelings and emotions and how these relate to early experience (Hill,2001). The basis of this approach is that psychological factors play a major role in determining behaviour and shaping personality. Freud (1961) divided the human mind into three parts the id, ego and superego so as to determine and understand the root causes of unusual behaviour. Psychodynamic approach helps the individual to recognize the unconscious which have an impact on behaviour. As a result it ignores the influence of genes, biological components and thinking patterns (Freud,1961). Furthermore, psychoanalysis depends on the therapist interpretation of what the client says. Part 1: Metamessages Deborah Tannen defines metamessages as a way you want to be understood without saying what you mean explicitly in words and you must convey meaning somewhere else in how words are spoken. Tannen points out that it stands to reason that women are often more attuned than men to the metamessages of talk. She makes a point as to how significant metamessages are. She also explains that metamessages are a form of indirectness and that women try to reach agreement through negotiation, which is also a women s way of displaying solidarity or power. Tannen gives an example of a wedding anniversary where the women wanted to have the cake served that night because they were thinking of the metamessage; serving a special cake frames an occasion as a celebration. The men suggested it was a good idea to save the cake for the next day, focusing on the message that the cake is just food. Culture, Race, and Gender in Sports Essay Culture, Race, and Gender in Sports When a person of a specific gender enters a non traditional sport for their gender/sex, many social and moral issues will arise challenging that person involved in that particular sport. The intentions of the individual will be questioned as well as their personal interest in the sport. Before any of these questions are asked, there must be a redefinition of gender roles, femininity, and masculinity. In order for a person to enter a non traditional sport for their gender/sex without being criticize about gender morality, society must set flexible definitions for femininity and masculinity. Through the movies viewed in this course this semester, we saw women who were able to play against men and still keep their femininity. Nothing is lost when playing sports not traditionally meant for a particular race or gender. Society must become more understanding when it comes to the sports different types of people play and hinder from stereotyping anyone when they participate and perform well in that sport. When women decide to participate in sports traditionally for men such as bodybuilding, they risk the chance of being socially stereotyped as lesbians, or simply viewed as less feminine then say women figure skaters. For example, Venus Williams is seen as criticized for being very masculine in build and judged on that by her performance. The media has commented on how well she plays, and has compared her to men in her sport. She receives fewer endorsements than many other tennis players do because of her looks (but mainly due to her race). Men place themselves in the same situation when they chose to perform/participate in traditional female sports like field hockey, socially stereotyped as gay or less masculine than hockey players. There has been a change in the way certain gender sports were viewed when women/men attempted to challenge the boundaries. Gymnastics for example began as an all male sport. It was believed that women did not have the build nor strength to compete in this sport. In 1928 were women allowed to compete in the Olympics in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Analysis Of Forster s The Machine Stops In 1909, E.M. Forster wrote a short story called The Machine Stops. Interestingly, this story seemed to give a small prediction of our social media today. In it, humans have eschewed physical interaction for solitary existences in separate underground rooms. However, they do continue communicate audibly. This is just done through phone like pads and screens. In this situation, The Machine provides everything that humans needs and it is not questioned. It is basically the totalitarian manifestation of the Internet (Allfree). In Forster s story, The Machine isn t questioned until Vashti s son, Kuno, who lives on the other side of earth wants to see her (Allfree). Of course, this is not how we use social media as the majority of people still leave their houses and at times don t use electronic devices and actually interact with each other on a physical basis. However, it does sound like something theatrical and Neil Duffield did bring an adaption of The Machine Stops to the United Kingdom where it will be directed by Julie Forster in June 2016 (Allfree). Even more interesting is that while this is one way social media may be approached in theatre, theatre can also be approached, appreciated, and reviewed via social media. Social media gives people an ease of use, is a quick way to communicate, and it is able to reach many people. Because of these things, social media is quickly changing trends and agendas in topics that range from the environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Black Elk And The Struggle Of Faith Black Elk and the Struggle of Faith The story of Nicholas Black Elk was one that was reluctantly told, a Lakota medicine man, a visionary of his own sort. Written by John G. Neihardt, Black Elk Speaks captures the essence of what the Lakota culture based its teachings off of, as well as exhibiting who Black Elk really was. When Neihardt began his dialogues with Black Elk he knew which questions to ask, his plan was clear from the beginning. There were choices made by Neihardt that seem controversial, such as why he decided to end his book at the Battle of Wounded Knee instead of continuing through Black Elk s life and his conversion to Catholicism. The steps taken by Neihardt succeeded in portraying Black Elk s own story, and the importance of his vision on his life. Black Elk himself can be looked upon as a character within an all encompassing realm of change. From the time that he was a boy he had been instilled with the fear of the Wasichu , as well as the virtues of the Lakota religion. A short way into the telling of his story, Black Elk shares with Neihardt that at the age of 9, he had a vision. As rudimentary as it sounds, this vision can be attributed with shaping Black Elk s whole life. Black Elk s recollection of the vision is impeccable, not a detail goes unremembered. Without much evidence as to what caused Black Elk to fall sick, the book describes swelling and what would be thought of today as hallucinations. Black Elk only finds his vision because he is ... • 22. Bowling For Columbine Essay As humans living in a modern sociological time period, the truth can be cleverly and ingeniously twisted by film directors to convince us that their sole opinions are factual. This is most definitely no exception regarding Academy Award winning filmmaker Michael Moore and his documentary Bowling for Columbine. Michael Moore explores the lead up to the Columbine massacre and more broadly, the proliferation of guns and rapidly growing homicide rate in America. Moore also investigates the reason as to why Canada, in comparison to America, does not have the same rate of gun related crimes. The alarming and disturbing tragedy befalling on April 20, 1999 at America s Columbine High School is an act reflecting the extraordinarily high rate of gun related violence of American society. ... One anonymous speaker announced that Marilyn Manson s music promoted what he called Columbine like behaviour, such as hate, violence, death, suicide, and drug use. The world is rightly outraged by Marilyn s music due to its prominent association with the Columbine High School massacre. A question that proficient critiques ask themselves is this: How do documentary directors purposely evoke certain emotions within their key scenes? It is clearly apparent that viewers are positioned to believe Moore s point of view due to his clever use of persuasive techniques. One major scene that has the tendency to evoke the emotions of carelessness and insensitiveness is the What a Wonderful World sequence. The astute decision to incorporate images of deceased and brutally incapacitated American s generates sympathy and ultimately results in the support of Michael Moore s viewpoint. In Jay Z s essay One Eye Open , Jay Z shares his account, as a pioneer of the genre itself, of how hip hop started to gain its popularity and standing back when he was a young child and how it provides the people means to support their needs. In her essay From the Frying Pan into the Fire , Arlie Russell Hochschild shares what does it take to create a culture, she focused on how the capitalist economic system became a culture itself instead of supporting one. Although hip hop may have started out as an opposition to some of the values of capitalism, a lot of aspects of the hip hop culture thrive from the capitalist economy, it just follows a different set of rules. Even though many might think that hip hop is a form of art and that capitalism is an economic system, that is not all that they are, they can also be identified as cultural systems. A culture is created when groups of people start to have unique social patterns, like their own food, cloth, language and what not. Another way a culture is created is through rituals and an ideology that a group of people start following. The culture of capitalism was created through the anxieties to which it poses itself as a necessary answer (Hochschild 145). For this reason, what used to be just an ... • 29. The Evolution Of A Gentleman Madison Woolley PHIL 2010 Sec 07 05 Dec. 2016 WC: 1430 The Evolution of a Gentleman Confucianism is based off of many diverse concepts, some of which are the junzi and the xiaoren. These terms have been widely interpreted throughout time, and make up most of this concept. In order to understand Confucianism, one must first understand the significance of these two notions. A junzi (gentleman) and xiaoren (small man) are very important aspects of Confucianism and have distinct meanings, qualities, and modern day societal attributes. While a junzi (gentleman) is defined one way by Confucius, a xiaoren (small man) would be considered the contrary. As defined by Confucius, a gentleman is an individual who lives by a moral code, not motivated by gain, but by what is right. A small man is the complete opposite. A small man is an individual who lives to benefit and for selfish reasons. Confucius states that gentlemen lead others through their actions demonstrated through: When gentlemen perform well, all their duties to their relations, the people are inspired to virtue (Chichung).1 Gentlemen are very selfless, unlike small men, and strive to be better men and better citizens. People in turn strive to be like a gentleman. In early interpretations, a gentleman was viewed as inherently superior to a small man and seen as a prince. The later interpretation translated it, not as a ruler, but as a moral person who leads by his actions and honor. Society is built up by gentlemen and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey on arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive intense fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law requiring sex offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an International Megan s Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their status added to their passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex crime. Most people consider pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a child and that all pedophiles will commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth. The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. • 36. Cultural Identity Among Sudanese Youth Who are we? A study on cultural identity among Sudanese youth. Background Who am I or who are we? are both questions that require in depth knowledge of identity. A complex sociological and psychological phenomenon, identity has been classified into many types. Self identity is defined as an individual s awareness and expression of their distinctive characteristics. Weinreich (1986) highlighted that it is influenced by both the individual s past experiences and future aspirations and contributes to the formation of one s self esteem, and individuality. It also indicates the individual s capacity for self reflection (Leary Tangney 2003). Cultural identity is the shared identity by all members of a social group and describes the expression of that group s affiliations (Weinreich Saunderson 2003). It helps them gain a sence of belonging and creates strong bonds of association. This sence of cultural identity can be through similarities in nationality, locality, ethnicity, social class, religion, generation or any form of distinct social group characteristics. However, there may be differences between members with these shared cultures. Ancestry, skin tone, spoken language, and political attitudes can all distinguish between individuals within social groups (Holliday, 2010). This can lead to discrimination, tribalism and racism as society members evaluate those who are in the group from those who are out of the group (Cote Levine 2002). Sudan has a population ... Research for this assignment was conducted using the text book, the internet, and my personal account. While completing this project I gained a better sense of self and an individual, leader, and worker. It is my hope that this project can be used as a resource for others who have the same personality type as myself. Step 1 INFJ INFJ is my personality type. Upon finding my personality type I engulfed myself into finding any information available. What I discovered was that my strong sense of intuition is what I allow to lead my decisions. I also found confirmation that, I enjoy my alone time, I follow my passion, and I do not agree in doing things for the sake of doing them. This was extremely insightful, and although I know who I am it was enlightening to see research that explained who I was and why I act the way that I do. Life examples Growing up I was never shy, but I never felt the need to be the center of attention. However, when it was time to step up to the plate, I was always able to do so with ease. Often times my lack of shyness would leave my peers surprised that I was so good at certain things, because they never heard me talking much of myself. This transferred over to the work place as well. Up until recently I have been a classroom teacher. On several occasions my principals would disclose that they were shocked that I was so energetic. When I am in meetings I would not speak unless I had something meaningful to say. As a result, I think that would cause others to assume that I was one of low energy and unable to fulfil request that required a lot of speaking. Strengths and weaknesses Having a strong sense of self is a characteristic of my personality type. I take pride in my self awareness. In addition, I enjoy having a strong intuition. I believe that this has aided me in making smart decisions in life, at work, and in general. I feel the best thing about self awareness is you are not easily offended when you are misunderstood. We are supposed to have equal rights under law. If we do that, we have done enough. said Ben Stein, an iconic commentator on political and economic issues. But is it enough? Of course everyone is not born equal but if we were to be alike under the law, does that mean inequalities are to disappear in households and in governments? If we re not supposed to be equal according to Ben, then where does inequality come from and what are the consequences of it? Jean Jacques Rousseau in The Basic Political Writings and Mary Wollstonecraft in A Vindication of the Rights of Woman serves to answers those questions. The two authors offer a very different assessment from each other on the matter but for me personally, I can relate to both sides of the argument. Rousseau s claim that nearly all inequalities result from social institutions is very appealing because it s essentially claiming to be the origin of inequality and Wollstonecraft on the other hand dives deeper into the subject matter to discuss a very specific inequality, the lack of gender equality and the consequences of it. ... This does not make sense to Kania because sounds without framing cannot exactly be called music, but during 4 33 the framing does occur and therefore it does lead to an organization of sound (Kania). Such is the case with Anderson s short story Hands. Hands is a story of society s tendency to marginalize those who can be categorized as grotesque, or those who simply refuse categorization entirely. Anderson s tale of social isolation utilizes the image of the hands to symbolize the emotional expression of Wing Biddlebaum in order to drive an implicit theme that emotional internalization and social isolation is a veritable prison. Before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, Wing is still plagued by doubts about his hands and is striving to conceal them even in the fields. Anderson writes, The hands alarmed their owner. He wanted to keep them hidden away and looked with amazement at the quiet inexpressive hands of other men who worked beside him in the fields, or passed, driving sleepy teams on country roads (Anderson 4). Another recurring image is Wing s tendency to hide his hands in his pockets. This image occurs several times over the duration of Anderson s story. In another instance Anderson writes, Wing Biddlebaum talked much with his hands. The slender expressive fingers, forever active, forever striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or behind his back, came forth and became the piston rods of his machinery of expression (Anderson 3). This image is repeated again when Wing is conversing with George. Wing is horrified by the sight of his own hands and With a convulsive movement of his body, Wing Biddlebaum sprang to his feet and thrust his hands deep into his trousers pockets (Anderson 5). This imagery involving hands being thrust into pockets is intended by Anderson to be a metaphor for prison. Wing s hands are repeatedly described in terms of birds. Biddlebaum s own name reflects this very idea. According to Anderson, The story of Wing Biddlebaum is a story of hands. Their restless activity, like unto the beating of the wings of an imprisoned bird, had given him his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike white meat, red meat is suggested to cause many health problems due to the higher levels of saturated fat and cholesterol. These high amounts of cholesterol can increase risk of the buildup of plaque. Red meat contains a compound called carnitine that is linked to the clogging of the arteries. Red meat is associated with a increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and colorectal cancer. Red meat may also contain harmful hormones that increase risk of breast cancer. Although the iron present is more easily absorbed, heme iron has been linked to cancer. Red meat has even been linked to increased risk of death. According to a Harvard Study conducted in March 2012, consuming a daily serving of processed meat increased death risk by 20 percent...while a once per day serving of unprocessed red meat was tied to a 13 percent increase in overall mortality risk (Jaslow). Another issue is that when grilling, heterocylic amines, compounds linked to cancer, are released. As stated, processed meat is unhealthier for consumption. • 43. Horse Behavior Analysis Deemed the most dangerous animal veterinary students must work with, horse behavior is often misunderstood among even the most well versed horsemen (Gronqvist, Rogers, Gee, Martinez, Bolwell, 2017). Equines have a complex range of emotions which are expressed through specific body language well known to owners. Sometimes these aggressive and/or anxious actions can show up suddenly which leaves caretakers confused and looking for a solution. The behaviors specifically include standoffish movements, biting, kicking, pinning ears back, and other similar actions. Not only can this sudden change in demeanor be concerning, but it can also be a hazard to anyone around the animal. These outbursts can be triggered by situations such as past experiences, ... The dependent variable is the observed demeanor which is ranked on the behavior scale that ranges from one (complacent), to seven (vicious). This scale system is formulated based off of groupings of body language and how dangerous they are to potential handlers. Data on temperament is recorded daily with a point value from the scale awarded to each horse at the end of each encounter. When averaged, a decreasing weekly score suggests that the animal s behavior is less aggressive over time. Therefore, the demeanor of the animal is judged to be improving. Any aggression seen in the pasture is not be taken in to account since this is deemed naturalistic within a herd. During this study, I am assuming that the horses are receiving similar amounts of attention. Also, I will assume that the animals are not acting out in response to another issue, such as a hormonal imbalance or mating. In this way, results will suggest that the behavior is not psychological (in other words, related to emotion), but instead physiological (medical). I expect internal validity since these animals are not giving any specific treatment currently. Any specific change in behavior indicates a causal relationship among the variables. One consideration is that my sample size is small, but this is not uncommon when dealing with studies in the equine field. Another is that some animals may have past psychological damage since many are rescues. It is possible that aggression is in response to unknown problems (masked medical issues) that have no relation to behavior. This would mean that attention would not provoke a change. As a final consideration, the study would take place during mating season which could cause some natural aggression. A Kennesaw Mountain High School IRB ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Highsmith and Hitchcock use characterization as the central means of forcing the audience to develop a connection with the protagonists in both texts by using it to portray them as average people. The most obvious technique used in creating an engaging picture for both characters is the consonance in their names. Both Thomas Ripley and Norman Bates are short and average names, which are not likely to spark an interest in the reader s mind. For this reason the reader is not able to have any preconceived notions of either character purely on a basis of their name. In both texts, the protagonists are shown as well spoken young men with calm exteriors. Norman Bates and Tom Ripley are introduced as average young men, who also seems lonely and gentle, therefore the audience is forced to develop sympathy for his character from the beginning of the texts. They both wear modest, conservative clothing; Highsmith s first description of Tom Ripley s costume a suit and a striped tie suggests a moderate level of formality in his costume which during the time that the book was written (1955), would resemble the look of the everyday man. • 46. Colonial America Without The Indians Axtell Summary Native Americans, or Indians, as they were mistakenly called, have been the pathetic footnotes to the main course of American history (Axtell 981). But James Axtell, the author of Colonial America without the Indians: Counterfactual Reflections, would beg to differ. He says that instead, Indians played a key role in making America great. James Murray gives another term to describe America s greatness: America s exceptionalism. Throughout his article Axtell makes many points as to why Indians played a vital role in American Exceptionalism . He even says that America wouldn t have been colonized nearly as soon if the Indians were gone, because Columbus would know he was not in the Indies and move on. So because they simply existed in the first place, Axtell says they were significant in the history of our country. Furthermore, he says Indians specifically played a vital role in the exceptionality of America s early economy, culture, and historical events and places. I never thought about how much the Indians contributed to the economy of early colonial America. However, without the Native Americans There would have been no maize or Indian corn, the staple crop grown throughout the colonial period to feed people and sometimes fatten livestock for export (Axtell 988). I believe Mr. Axtell raises an excellent point in this statement. Without the Indians to teach the early settlers, they would never have survived the harsh winters, and would have starved and died out very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
