Economics Paper
Economics Paper

May 6, 2013
Economics is a tool that we use in our daily lives even if we don t always realize it. As people we all
have things that we want, and things that we need. This includes things like food, clothing, and shelter,
but it is not limited to those things. In order to get those things, people have to spend money. The issue
is that everything that people need and want costs money. More often than not, people do not have the
money to do both so they have to decide which things are important for them to have right now. This
does not only apply to families, but businesses as well. This paper will address different types of
economics and some of the factors that contribute to its changes. ... Show more content on

Businesses will increase the production of goods and services that cost more money because they will
be able to increase their profit margins. In the same way, when prices decrease they will scale back the
production of those products because they will not be able to as much of a profit. Companies will
always do what is best for them, and the number one reason for them being in business is to make
money. What the consumer wants will always dictate they type and price of goods and services that
are supplied. When a certain type of product comes out or starts to increase in sales it directly affects
the market for that product or service. An example of this is when iPods came out and got very
popular. The price of the product was high initially, but they were still selling very well. Apple
increased its production because they were able to make greats profits from it. After this happened
there was an influx of other mp3 players from a plethora of other electronics companies. Since they
had new found competition, Apple was forced to lower the price of the item. Consumers still preferred
the iPod over many of the other mp3 players on the market, and because of their presence, the iPod
became much more affordable. In economics the law of demand states that all else equal, as the price
of a product increases, a lower

The Big Uneasy By Harry Shearer
The Big Uneasy by Harry Shearer is a documentary about the disastrous flooding of New Orleans
during the Hurricane Katrina in a different viewpoint. While mass media describe the flood as well as
the hurricane as a natural disaster, Shearer claims that the flooding was actually a man made disaster,
not a natural one; and the film contains comprehensive investigations with scientific data to support
the claim. The Big Uneasy highlights on the ineffective design and maintenance of the flood
protection system, as well as the engineering structure of the Mississippi River s waterway in the city.
Severe environmental damages due to poor infrastructural planning also ruin the natural flood barrier
of the region. Furthermore, these problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Go . Mr. Go is a 76 mile canal that was constructed in 1968. The Corps stated that this canal could
reduce the time and distance needed for ships to travel from the Gulf of Mexico to New Orleans.
Before Mr. Go was built, the Corps claimed that the canal would help the city develop and make
profits. However, a statistic shows that only an average of ten seagoing vessels goes through the canal
every year. Moreover, the vessels carry most basic goods such as toilet papers. This waterway does not
only have no economic benefits, it was also a path that allows the water from the Gulf of Mexico to
directly enter New Orleans, which collided with the Industrial Canal during the hurricane. This
collision created an approximately of the 800 foot breaching, which let the flood enter the region. As
the result, 80 percent of New Orleans was under the water. The Corps s poor planning left the
population of New Orleans in a vulnerable situation during the Katrina. Nevertheless, New Orleans
faced another problem that not only had worsen Katrina s impacts, but also forced many New Orleans
s residents to leave the land.
The Corps s effort to dry New Orleans has ruined the natural flood barrier of the region. The Corps

Texas Vs Fort Myers Essay
Florida is known as the Sunshine State. Whereas Texas is the Lone Star state. Both states are complete
opposites, beaches vs cowboys. So which is better, there really isn t a true winner. Both states have
amazing cities. For example, Fort Myers Florida and Porter Texas. Both these cities are good to live
in. Although they both are very similar, one has more activities for you to do and the other is more
calm.
Notably Florida is known for having many glamorous Theme Parks. Fort Myers is positioned just
three hours south from all the big Parks. It doesn t have all the traffic of living in a congested city like
Orlando, but is close enough to be able to leave your house at five or six in the morning and arrive at
Universal studios as it is opening. The closest Theme park to Fort Myers is Busch Gardens. This park
is literally a giant zoo with roller coasters. There s Tigers, Cheetahs, giraffes and many more exotic
animals here. You can take safari tours or ride the Cheetah Hunt, a roller coaster that reaches the speed
of a cheetah. About an hour east of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

located just miles apart. They are just as what you think Florida beaches would be like, white sands,
clear water, and hot weather. Whereas in order to do anything amusing at Porter you have to travel out
to the city of Houston. Houston isn t very far from Porter and there s many amusing activities to do
there. This city is Famous for NASA s Space Center. Just like in any space movie they call Houston

George Orwell Essay
George Orwell
Eric Arthur Blair was born in 1903 at Motihari in British occupied India. While growing up, he
attended private schools in Sussex, Wellington and Eaton. He worked at the Imperial Indian Police
until 1927 when he went to London to study the poverty stricken.
He then moved to Paris where he wrote two lost novels. After he moved back to England he wrote
Down and Out in Paris and London, Burmese Days, A Clergyman s Daughter and Keep the Apidistra
Flying. He published all four under the pseudonym George Orwell. He then married Eileen O

Discussing the publication of his first book with his agent, he decided on three possible pseudonyms:
Kenneth Miles, George Orwell and H. Lewis Allways. He favored George Orwell. The Orwell is a
river in Suffolk, south of his parents home. George Orwell published his first book in 1933. Down and

England because of his English publisher s fear of it giving offence in Burma. After Burmese Days
came two more novels: A Clergyman s Daughter, published in 1935; and Keep the Apidistra Flying,
published in 1936. In the Spring of 1936 he moved to Hertfordshire and married Eileen O
Shaughnessy, an Oxford graduate in English, a teacher, a journalist, and later a London graduate in
psychology. Orwell s reputation at this time was based mainly on his accounts of poverty and
depression. His next book, The Road to Wigan Pier was written for the Left Book Club and started his
career as a political writer. Much of this book was composed of an essay on class and socialism, which
was Orwell s first statement of his political position.
In July, he left for Spain to fight, and later to write, in the Spanish civil war. For the next two or three
years, Orwell became a revolutionary socialist. When he returned from

Essay about Gain Richard Powers
Gain and Loss in the Circle of Life
In Richard Powers novel, Gain, he intertwines two fictional stories to analyze the growth of large
corporation in America and the deterioration of the individual as a potential result. He tells the story of
the rise of a family soap making business, J. Clare and Sons, into a large scale corporation over a span
of 150 years. As a second story line, he incorporates the end of the life of Laura Bodey, a divorced real
estate agent with ovarian cancer living in Lacewood, a town centered around the corporation s
headquarters. He makes a unique statement about the increasingly detrimental nature of business as it
grows in scale. He never condemns Clare International nor does he overly victimize any ... Show more

Samuel also represents the aspect of capitalism that Weber discusses in The Protestant Ethic and the
Spirit of Capitalism.
During the period of time that Samuel and his wife begin to follow Miller and his movement, Powers
most clearly shows Samuel s Calvinistic mindset. When arguing over the question of whether or not
the Clare s pursuit of profit was moral, Samuel gives the reader their biggest glimpse into his views
related to predestination and God s gifts to his chosen followers: If they had been committing some
wrong, Samuel assured her, they could not have stayed in the business so long. Prosperity only proved
how fully they satisfied the wishes of both God and men (89). Weber believed that through their
pursuit of eternal life, the Calvinists created a business model of hard work and moral superiority, all
things that Samuel brings to J. Clare and Sons.
In many ways, Powers shows that he values Weber s theory of Capitalism the most out of all those the
class has discussed. In creating the Clares story, he acts as God, and bestows streaks of good luck onto
them for their hard work and risk taking. For instance, when Douglas, Samuel s son, buys huge
amounts of rosin at an opportune time, he is at first chastised, but then rewarded when it ends up being

How Rainfall Affects Stalactites
DESCRIPTION OF DATA This is a column graph representing how the rainfall affects the stalactites
length. One of many reasons that show stalactites are going to fall apart is their length. The colour
yellow represents the stalactites length at the start of the year. The colour orange represents the
stalactites length after 6 months. This will include its rainfall activity. This is an example of secondary
data which I obtained from the Princess Margaret Rose Cave website. I chose this secondary data as I

A Sorority Is A Subculture Or A Segment Of Society s...
All around the world sororities are a subculture or a segment of society s population on most college
campuses (Macionis 64). These sororities have their own language, norms, beliefs, and values. Most
college campuses have many charters or different sororities to choose from when a student wants to
pledge a sorority. On the Saint Francis University campus, there are seven sororities that a female
student can belong to. Each sorority has a different philanthropy which is a foundation that the
sorority stands behind. For example Delta Phi Epsilon stands behind the Educational Foundation, this
foundation helps women get the education that they deserve. Sororities are known for creating a bond
between girls that last a life time. The sororities have their own language, they use words like pledge,
bid, big, little, active, lavaliere, letters, and philanthropy. A pledge is a person who accepts a bid, and a
bid is an invitation to a specific chapter at their school (Nakagoshi 1). When a female student wants to
pledge a sorority they interview for a bid and the sorority decides if they want to have the new student
pledge or not. If the pledge gets the bid then the student gets a big, a big is an older girl who has been
part of the sorority for a year of more, and the big is like a big sister they are supposed to care of their
little or new pledge (Nakagoshi 1). An active is a member of the sorority that has been part of the
sorority for a few years. When a sister is

Epilogue To Avi s Narrative
The first thing Avi became aware of was the silence. It struck her as odd unfamiliar. It was the kind of
quietness that sinks into the marrow of your bones and fills your ears, immobilizing you like a great
weight on your limbs. Silence that sets you on edge and makes the world feel askew. It was the silence
that comes after a storm or a battle, as a wounded earth begins to set itself right again. Yet, just behind
the silence, almost too insignificant to even notice, there was a faint hum. Like the buzz of an electric
fence or a fly hovering by a window somewhere. Constant and pulsing, it compelled Avi to open her
eyes. She was staring at a wall. Metal, with a greenish tint to it s cold, water stained surface. Confused

steps and throwing her arms around Avi s neck. A jolt of pain shot through Avi s leg as Meg s slight
frame crashed into Avi s sore body, making her grunt, and glance down at her leg, only then realizing
that a rough looking bandage was tied around her calf. Oh, I m sorry. Meg gasped, pulling away. Are
you okay? She looked down at Avi s leg. But Avi s mind was racing. She pulled away, ignoring the
pain in her leg and put her hands on Meg s shoulders, holding her at an arms length and asking, Meg,
what s going on? Where are we? What happened to you? So...you don t remember. Meg s excitement
fell flat. I remember sitting to dinner with Mom and Dad...after that...all I remember are sirens. Avi
said, her eyebrows knitting together as she tried to remember what came after. Where are we? Avi

Essay on Explaining Aggression
Explaining Aggression One of the achievements of social psychology has been in extending
explanations of aggression and violence away from merely being reflections of the inner state of
individuals
There many ways of explaining aggressive behaviour in humans. Some theories view aggression as an
important part of our evolutionary heritage , others as an imbalance in hormones or neurotransmitters
in the brain. Early psychological theories of aggression explained aggressive behaviour as an
automatic consequence of personal frustration. Social learning theories see the cause of our aggressive
behaviour as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are however, some methodological problems in Bandura s study. Joseph said that the
experiment only involves harm to an inflatable doll not a human being, therefore it is not a good
example of aggression. Johnston found that children who behaved violently towards the doll were
rated as more violent generally by teachers. Aggression is often described as antisocial behaviour but
by observing adult aggressive behaviour being rewarded children may think this behaviour is
acceptable and normative. Therefore it shows that social learning theory explains that is more about
learning behaviour rather than being a reflection of an individual s inner state. It also explains the
findings which show that children who watch violent films are more likely to behave in an aggressive
way. Social learning theory can account for cultural and individual variation; it can also explain why
we behave aggressively in some situations and not others. When we are rewarded or reinforced for
behaving aggressively this is related to specific situations, in other situations we may find this
behaviour isn t rewarded. This is known as context dependent learning.
In spite of the success of social learning theory, there are reasons for arguing that Bandura s approach
is limited and that aggressive

Should Driving Age Be Lowered Essay
Should The Driving Age be Lowered or Raised?
Teenagers all around the country are beginning to drive. In the mind of a teenager, turning 16 and
being able to drive is an exciting achievement. They are finally free to drive without an adult in the car
with them. Many people believe the age to get a license should be lowered to 15 years old, while
others think it should be raised to 18 years of age. Some states have already raised the age to 17 years
old instead of 16. However, the question still remains, should the driving age be lowered to 15 years
old, or raised to 18 years old?
Many adults and teenagers think the age to get a license should be lowered. Most seem to believe 15
would be a good age. The teenager will get his or her permit at age 13 and the license at age 15. This
will help the adolescents be more productive and organized. A lower driving age ... Show more

skills. ( Should We Raise the Legal Driving Age? ) Driving as an older teenager could potentially stop
obesity, or at least reduce the amount of obese teenagers. There are very many teenagers that spend an
excessive amount of time on their cellphones every day. With age comes maturity, which means that
as the teen becomes older he or she will not be on his or her phone as much. Decision making skills
will be fully developed by age 18 and will help the student to know not to speed and to drive safely.
Teenagers would also have more time to work on their school work or help around the house if they
could drive on their own. They could do their own errands as the parents took care of their own needs.

The Characteristics Of Television Shows
As a child, two of my sisters and I would gather at a television and we would watch shows together.
My sisters and I loved watching each show, and to this day, we still watch the same shows, or some
that are similar. There are a variety of shows that grab a large audience, and continue over each
episode, because they are very interesting. What makes a show interesting is when there is some
drama, romance, and when the story continues over each episode. Those qualities make people want to
know what the conclusion is of a storyline. Since the audience wishes to find out what happens in the
end, qualities like drama, romance, and continuing storylines, are attention grabbers, and they are what
makes television shows great.
First of all, to make a great television show, the show needs to have heaps of drama inside it. In the
show Degrassi, a show about high school drama, one teen girl was pregnant and believed the father
was a guy she randomly hooked up with, but later found out the father was her ex boyfriend, who she
was still in love with after on and off break ups. The drama made people interested in the show,
because the audience wanted to know what happens to the love triangle. Degrassi episodes are intense
with drama, and that makes the show great. In Riverdale, a suspenseful show about the murder of the
schools well liked quarterback, the richest families secrets are unfolded as they solve the murder, to
find out the quarterback s father killed him. Throughout the

The Effect Of Maternal Separation On Voldemort And Harry...
The effect of maternal separation on Voldemort, Harry Potter and other characters in the wizardry
world.
By Do Nhat Nam
Throughout the world of Harry Potter, the power of maternal love has been portrayed as being vital
and tremendous. From Harry Potter s mother sacrificing herself for Harry s life to Molly Weasley
defending her daughter Ginny Weasley s life in the Hogwarts battle, the role of a mother has always
been that of a guardian angel that is willing to sacrifice her life for her daughter or son. Without
maternal love through infancy, one would lack a sense of attachment, face trouble establishing
relationships and grasping the concept of affection during adolescence and adulthood. Most Harry
Potter characters were blessed with a mother, yet the two grand protagonist and antagonist Harry
Potter and Lord Voldemort are two exceptions. Both of their mothers, Lily Potter and Merope Gaunt,
passed away at their infancy, yet while Harry Potter became great and righteous, Lord Voldemort
became the most notorious Dark wizard of all time one whose heart lacked compassion, who reeks
with hatred and consumed in rage. In this essay, we will compare and contrast the effect of the lack of
maternal influence on both Voldemort and Harry Potter, and also the importance of maternal love on
different characters in the wizardry world.
I. Love vs. No love

The Strength Of The Solid Ball
The solid ball was typically used against forts and other artillery pieces. The grape shot and canister
shot were utilized as anti personnel munitions. The Garrison Cannon used three different types of
shells; hot shot, chain shot and bar shot. Hot shots were cannonballs that were heated until they were
glowing red and then fired at ships to set them ablaze. Chain shot and bar shot consisted of two
cannon balls connected by either a chain or bar. They were designed to destroy ships rigging. The
mortar used only one type of shell, the bomb. The bomb was a hollow shell that was filled with black
powder and had a fuse. The howitzer utilized hollow shot and anti personnel munitions.

Biography of Mao Zedong
INTRODUCTION
Born on December 26, 1893, Mao Zedong was the founding leader of the People s Republic of China
and ruled as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China from 1949 up until he died on September
the 9th, 1976. He is largely accredited with crafting the post revolution policies known as the Great
Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution (Joseph, 1986) which have left many critics arguing that
the political and economic devastation those policies left are what define his legacy. Mao Zedong
however, left a legacy that far outweighs the aforementioned argument.
How Mao improved CHINA internally
Mao Zedong s most central passion was his insistence in the empowerment of the peasants. Once Mao
Zedong ascended to leadership, land reform became the principal feature of the Chinese Communist
Party line (Chang, 2014). In 1950 he oversaw the implemented the Agrarian Reform Law
(Encyclopedia Britannica, 2014) which gave the land to the peasants, and authorised people s courts to
try their former landlords. Subsequently, the agrarian reform re assigned more than half the land to the
peasants meaning that 300 million peasants were effectively given 47 million hectares of land.
Additionally, Mao empowered peasants by giving jobs to peasants from the countryside and
prioritising them in the industrialisation process which led to the dramatic reduction in the
unemployment levels and introduction of insurance for workers.
Under Chairman Mao, the public healthcare system

Identify The Complex World Of Identity
Identifying the complex world of Identity
Overview
The concept of identity is difficult to define as it is ambiguous. It can be interpreted from many
different perspectives, and environments. In its most basic form it is the way that people see
themselves. This includes one s assumptions about them self as Cliford Geertz would put it, and the
society around them. Furthermore scholarship defines identity as the way people see themselves in the
context of nature, and how people see animate and inanimate aspects of the natural world. (Hoffman,
1998) We live in an all encompassing society however so identity includes all ranges from national,
social, personal, environmental, religious, and even political identities.

mans land outside of their own country, and it gave the existing territory whose border they were
enclosed in the authority to treat them as lesser human beings. Over many generations this led the
identity of the enclave residents to be forever tarnished. Some never had the chance to learn how to

so on. Collectively the identity in which all these enclave members formerly had which tied them to
their place of birth was completely taken away from them. (Johnson,

Approximation Mona Simpson
The story, Approximations by Mona Simpson expresses the idea that every parent often want to see
their children succeed in life, but sometimes the idea gets carried away that many of the parents want
their children to stand out and be the best at a sport or have a special talent and be successful in life
and tend to forget about their children s own needs and feeling. This is because it makes them look
like outstanding parents, and they often forget about what their children really want. In the story

Negation As A Stylistic Feature In Joseph Heller s Catch-22
In her article Negation as a Stylistic Feature in Joseph Heller s Catch 22: A Corpus Study , Laura
Hidalgo Downing collects data on, analyzes, and interprets the use of negation in Catch 22. Negation,
she hypothesizes, is used much more frequently by Joseph Heller in his novel than is average for other
modern pieces of American and English literature. In addition, Downing believes that Heller uses
certain types of negation more frequently than other authors, and that this is what makes Catch 22 s
satirical humor stand out so prominently. Overall, Downing s article would be moderately helpful if it
were included in a college textbook on Catch 22. While the article does a fantastic job explaining the
concept of negation where it is present in Catch 22, it does not do much to explain why understanding
negation is necessary for fully comprehending the novel.
In her article, Laura Downing describes her work analyzing negation in Catch 22. A large amount of
the article described the method by which Downing compiled her statistics on the frequency of
negation in Heller s novel. The first thing that Downing had to consider while doing this was what
types of negation were more likely to be used in Catch 22. Such a thing is actually quite difficult to
do, as Catch 22 is a work of fiction. If Downing was analyzing an academic journal, then she could
focus primarily on searching for analytic negation (which uses the term not ), which is most common
in formal texts. On the other

What Are The Behaviors That Influence Information Security...
The primary implication of the current study is the positive social change. Through the themes,
educators and school administrators may consider prioritizing the need for information security
training to avoid disclosure of information from both students and teachers. Moreover, school
administrators may implement policies that promote the protection of information among students and
educators. The findings also contribute to the body of knowledge about the factors that are unknown
about unauthorized disclosure of information related to information security awareness training in
public schools. Furthermore, the research study contributes to elements of the protection motivation

Participants reported that undergoing training and taking security seriously reduced unauthorized
disclosures. Arachchilage and Love (2014) confirmed the need for information security training. The
researchers suggested that personnel have an insufficient amount of both knowledge and training to
mitigate threats related to information security. For instance, organizations attempt to counter
information security threats by publishing organizational policies and conducting periodic information
security training that assist in the mitigation efforts to thwart threats such as fraud, viruses, malware,
spyware, and social engineering attacks (Arachchilage Love, 2014; Chen, Ramamurthy, Wen, 2015;
Singh et al., 2013).
Aloul (2012) supports the reiteration for information security training. An aspect of securing
organizational data and information in the public school system brings about the need for information
security awareness and training due to increases in security incidents (Aloul, 2012). In addition, Aloul
(2012) added that a method for mitigating and combating the unauthorized release of PII is the
training and education of users in the arena of information security. Trinkle et al. (2014) explained that
the unauthorized release of information or information leakage can be attributed to either internal or
external entities that are conducted either by a human or technical

Social Media And Social Care Essay
All around the world, social media has become a part of everyday life. It is how people read the news,
how they interact with their friends; but what impact could this be having on people s health and
ability to socialise? This report will determine how the populace is affected by social media, and
examine the outcomes. The addictive side of social media is explored, as well as the fast moving
information and whether social media inhibits socialisation. Andreassen, Pallesen, Griffiths (2015)
argues the implications of social media on a person(s), being addictive habits which affect self esteem
and moods. They did a study proving over 23,500 participants (Andreassen et al. 2015) showed

Mark Twain And Maxine Hong Kingston
In the mid 19th century, America was viewed as a hotspot for freedom and wealth. When the noise of
the gold rush flooded the world, immigrants started to see America more appetizing than ever. The
Chinese saw America as a place to have a fresh start and as a place of refuge because of it s
generosity, so they immigrated to the west in great numbers. There was a large Chinese population in
Virginia and all along the Pacific coast. Writers Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston both wrote in
great detail about the Chinese Immigrants. They went into detail about the immigrants and how they
came over and why. Although Twain and Kingston both wrote about the immigrants in a positive light,
Twain was sympathetic of the immigrants and Kingston focused more on their image and her
ancestors. Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston are both influential writers when it comes to the
history of the Chinese Immigrants. Bother of them showed a great amount of detail on their journey to
America. Mark Twain actually pities the friendless Mongol, there were many superficial stereotypes
of the Chinese immigrants (Ou 33). Twain ridicules the American s racist attitudes against the
Chinese. For example, in Roughing It, he wrote, In every little cooped up, dingy cavern of a hut, faint
with the odor of burning Josh lights and with nothing to see the gloom by save the sickly, guttering
tallow candle, were two or three yellow, long tailed vagabonds, coiled up on a sort of short truckle

A Philosophical View Of Animal Rights
A Philosophical View of Animal Rights
Should animals be harmed to benefit mankind? This pressing question has been around for at least the
past two centuries. During the early nineteenth century, animal experiments emerged as an important
method of science and, in fact, marked the birth of experimental physiology and neuroscience as we
currently know it. There were, however, guidelines that existed even back then which restricted the
conditions of experimentation. These early rules protected the animals, in the sense that all procedures
performed were done so with as little pain as possible and solely to investigate new truths. Adopting
the animals? perspectives, they would probably not agree that these types of regulations were much ...

(Rodd 4). So, it is easily seen how many views have accumulated over time. The task of determining
animal rights has also come into the context of examining these inherent differences on qualitative and
quantitative levels. We can say, for instance, that on a qualitative level, a cow is less intelligent than a
human. But, we must then determine, on a quantitative level, how much more unintelligent that cow
really is when compared to humans. And, once we decide that, we must then decide if that margin of
intelligence is enough for us humans to slaughter that cow in order to benefit human kind from its
products.
Questions like this and others, which are very similar, have become the snowballing debate over the
question of animal rights. Where do we draw the line? How do we determine the value of another
being?s life? Well, up to this point, we as a society have been pretty confident in judging the lives of
millions of animals worldwide (or so we can conclude by looking at the number of animals sacrificed
each year for the purpose of experiment, education, goods, etc.). We must first step back and analyze
the ethical dilemma at hand and then proceed to carefully weigh its consequences.
If we examine the question of animal rights cautiously, it is most often viewed as an ethical dilemma
as opposed to an economic or

Uses Of A Foreign Language By Theresa Cha s Dictee
In the course of reading, the Asian American literature I was particularly amazed by the work done by
Theresa Cha in the book Dictee. Despite her Asian origin and the changing of the different places they
lived as immigrants, she tried her best to write about art and particularly the poems that have attracted
attention by literature scholars. Interesting is her use of mimicry to show the difficulty of speech, her
use of international race and nation conflicts to educate the readers as well as her uniting idea of cheap
nature of language and culture to show that integration is possible even without the mastery of the
native language of a place. In my essay, I endeavour to analyze Cha s use of language in her poems,

In fact, most of them are unidentified and the reader may not identify a specific person that speaks in
the different chapters. Thus, the audience may understand it is an embodiment of females focusing on
structuring the major theme of the book, which is gender inequality. Additionally, the description of
the female characters is equivocal such that the reader has to picture the image of the women.
Although the author provides various photos in the book, there is absence of an explanation. Before
this, the writer only concentrates on telling the story (Kim,165). Additionally, the author uses poetic
approach to explain the setting in the book, which gives the novel distinct styles of writing. In fact, the
poems are only meant to provide the reader with a description of the mothers and daughters, and this
creates a distinction in the narrative. Resultantly, the audience perceives that when a poem appears in
the reading, the author is probably narrating the plight of women. Notwithstanding, the novel uses
visual art technique to communicate to the audience. in many instances, the author does not provide a
description of an individual such that the reader has to imagine the person. In doing so, the readers are
in suspense but the author offers a drawing that may be used to demystify the situation. in support of
this style, it is apparent that the visual art may have

Psychological study of music is based on this reason. Studies have found that music can reduce stress,
aid relaxation, alleviate depression, and help store and recall information among other functions.
William Congreve once stated that music has the charms to soothe the savage beast . Stress is reduced
through music by decreasing the amount of the hormone cortisone released in the body. This can be
applied to everyday life for stress relief (Music and Stress, 1998).
Music therapy is a new intervention that uses music and musical activities for the purposes of altering
behavior and enhancing the everyday existence of people with various types of emotional disturbance
. People have been using forms of music therapy since the earliest recorded history. Egyptian priests
spoke incantations that supposedly influenced women`s fertility. Hebrews and Greeks treated physical
and mental illness with the playing of music. Zenocrates, Sarpander, and Arien, all of whom were
Greeks, were the first to use music therapy as a regular practice. They employed harp music to ease
the outbursts of people with mental illnesses (Shapiro, 1969).
Nursing homes often hire music therapists. People are likely to feel depressed and grief stricken when
moved away from their homes and families into a facility for strangers to take care of them. Music
therapy helps to relieve grief and improve emotional tones and feelings (Shapiro, 1969). Therapists
can also help residents that suffer from

Tao Te Ching Of Lao-Tzu Analysis
Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu is a book with many chapters in it showing the two different sides to
basically everything. To break it down, Tao means path or way , Te means to get , and Ching means
great book . So the Tao was the force that controlled the universe and appreciated the way, to find
balance between opposites. The book, Tao Te Ching has been said to been written by a Laozi an old
master and has been said that the true author (or authors ) name has been lost. In the chapters between
the book it tells how to live a life of integrity and of greatness per say. It also has contradictions or
paradoxes which allows us to see the both perspectives of each side. It shows us that there are always
two sides to everything. Tao Te Ching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the little things that he did that made my opinion change on him. You can t judge others on their
appearance because there might be beauty inside of them or ugliness inside of them either one.
The other contradiction in the Tao Te Ching was good and evil . This concept can kind of connect back
to the ugliness and beauty in the ugliness kind of being evil and beauty being good. Of course, as it
has already been expressed before by the author of this book, there are two sides to everything. When
things are good, they are good of course but there is always something that is going to change that.
The same thing happens when things are bad, they are bad but then it has to change to good at some
point.
What I thought of when I saw good and evil was the tree of knowledge of good and evil from the
Bible. In the Bible, near the beginning of the book Genesis 2:9 it says that there are two trees, the tree
of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of
the ground trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the
tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil . When Adam and Eve sinned and ate from
the tree of knowledge of good and evil, that s when the concept of good and evil became true. When
things were going good, something would upset that and something bad would happen. What I believe
is that if Adam and Eve hadn t have sinned then

Innovative Building Materials
ABSTRACT
Latest innovations have developed new materials and better technologies in the field of construction.
The need of the hour is the replacement of costly and scarce conventional building materials by
innovative, cost effective and environment friendly alternate building materials. Here we see about the
Insulating concrete forms (ICF) Fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) Structural insulated panels (SIP)
By implementing these technologies gives birth to many sub level new engineering concepts. These
engineering conceptual methods now days become very important, latest practically applied fields in
innovative constructions. The major problem by the conventional structures due to various aspects can
be resolved by incorporating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most forms have vertically oriented furring strips built into the forms on 6 , 8 , or 12 centres which are
used to secure interior and exterior finishes.
Different ICF systems also vary in the shape of the resulting concrete within the wall: Flat systems
form an even thickness of concrete throughout the walls, like a conventionally poured wall 3rd
Generation ICF: most common Waffle Grid systems create a waffle pattern where the concrete is
thicker at some points than others 2nd Generation ICF: somewhat lower structural strength fire
resistance Post and Beam or screen grid systems form discrete horizontal and vertical columns of
concrete 1st Generation ICF: least resistance to fires Benefits
Manufacturers commonly cite the following advantages compared to traditional building materials,
especially in residential and light commercial construction. It needs to be said, however, that it is
questionable what is meant by traditional building materials ; this comparison apparently assumes
different worst case alternatives for each point. Minimal, if any, air leaks, which improves comfort and
less heat loss compared with walls without an air barrier Thermal resistance (R value) typically above
3 Km²/W (in American customary units: R 17); this results in saving energy compared with
uninsulated masonry. High sound absorption, which helps produce peace and quiet compared with
framed walls

A Comparison of Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells Essay
A Comparison of Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells
There are two main types of cells in the world. The simplest cells such as bacteria are known as
Prokaryotic cells, and human cells are known as Eukaryotic cells. The main difference between each
of these cells is that a eukaryotic cell has a nucleus and a membrane bound section in which the cell
holds the main DNA which are building blocks of life.
Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus. The chromosomes which are found in prokaryotes are usually
spread in the cytoplasm. In eukaryotic cells the chromosomes remain together inside the nucleus and
there is a clear nuclear membrane that is surrounding the nucleus.

  • 2. Economics Paper Economics Paper University of Phoenix ECO365 May 6, 2013 Economics is a tool that we use in our daily lives even if we don t always realize it. As people we all have things that we want, and things that we need. This includes things like food, clothing, and shelter, but it is not limited to those things. In order to get those things, people have to spend money. The issue is that everything that people need and want costs money. More often than not, people do not have the money to do both so they have to decide which things are important for them to have right now. This does not only apply to families, but businesses as well. This paper will address different types of economics and some of the factors that contribute to its changes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Businesses will increase the production of goods and services that cost more money because they will be able to increase their profit margins. In the same way, when prices decrease they will scale back the production of those products because they will not be able to as much of a profit. Companies will always do what is best for them, and the number one reason for them being in business is to make money. What the consumer wants will always dictate they type and price of goods and services that are supplied. When a certain type of product comes out or starts to increase in sales it directly affects the market for that product or service. An example of this is when iPods came out and got very popular. The price of the product was high initially, but they were still selling very well. Apple increased its production because they were able to make greats profits from it. After this happened there was an influx of other mp3 players from a plethora of other electronics companies. Since they had new found competition, Apple was forced to lower the price of the item. Consumers still preferred the iPod over many of the other mp3 players on the market, and because of their presence, the iPod became much more affordable. In economics the law of demand states that all else equal, as the price of a product increases, a lower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Big Uneasy By Harry Shearer The Big Uneasy by Harry Shearer is a documentary about the disastrous flooding of New Orleans during the Hurricane Katrina in a different viewpoint. While mass media describe the flood as well as the hurricane as a natural disaster, Shearer claims that the flooding was actually a man made disaster, not a natural one; and the film contains comprehensive investigations with scientific data to support the claim. The Big Uneasy highlights on the ineffective design and maintenance of the flood protection system, as well as the engineering structure of the Mississippi River s waterway in the city. Severe environmental damages due to poor infrastructural planning also ruin the natural flood barrier of the region. Furthermore, these problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Go . Mr. Go is a 76 mile canal that was constructed in 1968. The Corps stated that this canal could reduce the time and distance needed for ships to travel from the Gulf of Mexico to New Orleans. Before Mr. Go was built, the Corps claimed that the canal would help the city develop and make profits. However, a statistic shows that only an average of ten seagoing vessels goes through the canal every year. Moreover, the vessels carry most basic goods such as toilet papers. This waterway does not only have no economic benefits, it was also a path that allows the water from the Gulf of Mexico to directly enter New Orleans, which collided with the Industrial Canal during the hurricane. This collision created an approximately of the 800 foot breaching, which let the flood enter the region. As the result, 80 percent of New Orleans was under the water. The Corps s poor planning left the population of New Orleans in a vulnerable situation during the Katrina. Nevertheless, New Orleans faced another problem that not only had worsen Katrina s impacts, but also forced many New Orleans s residents to leave the land. The Corps s effort to dry New Orleans has ruined the natural flood barrier of the region. So which is better, there really isn t a true winner. Both states have amazing cities. For example, Fort Myers Florida and Porter Texas. Both these cities are good to live in. Although they both are very similar, one has more activities for you to do and the other is more calm. Notably Florida is known for having many glamorous Theme Parks. Fort Myers is positioned just three hours south from all the big Parks. It doesn t have all the traffic of living in a congested city like Orlando, but is close enough to be able to leave your house at five or six in the morning and arrive at Universal studios as it is opening. The closest Theme park to Fort Myers is Busch Gardens. This park is literally a giant zoo with roller coasters. There s Tigers, Cheetahs, giraffes and many more exotic animals here. After he moved back to England he wrote Down and Out in Paris and London, Burmese Days, A Clergyman s Daughter and Keep the Apidistra Flying. He published all four under the pseudonym George Orwell. In the Spring of 1936 he moved to Hertfordshire and married Eileen O Shaughnessy, an Oxford graduate in English, a teacher, a journalist, and later a London graduate in psychology. Orwell s reputation at this time was based mainly on his accounts of poverty and depression. His next book, The Road to Wigan Pier was written for the Left Book Club and started his career as a political writer. Much of this book was composed of an essay on class and socialism, which was Orwell s first statement of his political position. • 7. Essay about Gain Richard Powers Gain and Loss in the Circle of Life In Richard Powers novel, Gain, he intertwines two fictional stories to analyze the growth of large corporation in America and the deterioration of the individual as a potential result. He tells the story of the rise of a family soap making business, J. Clare and Sons, into a large scale corporation over a span of 150 years. As a second story line, he incorporates the end of the life of Laura Bodey, a divorced real estate agent with ovarian cancer living in Lacewood, a town centered around the corporation s headquarters. He makes a unique statement about the increasingly detrimental nature of business as it grows in scale. He never condemns Clare International nor does he overly victimize any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Samuel also represents the aspect of capitalism that Weber discusses in The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. During the period of time that Samuel and his wife begin to follow Miller and his movement, Powers most clearly shows Samuel s Calvinistic mindset. When arguing over the question of whether or not the Clare s pursuit of profit was moral, Samuel gives the reader their biggest glimpse into his views related to predestination and God s gifts to his chosen followers: If they had been committing some wrong, Samuel assured her, they could not have stayed in the business so long. Prosperity only proved how fully they satisfied the wishes of both God and men (89). Weber believed that through their pursuit of eternal life, the Calvinists created a business model of hard work and moral superiority, all things that Samuel brings to J. Clare and Sons. In many ways, Powers shows that he values Weber s theory of Capitalism the most out of all those the class has discussed. In creating the Clares story, he acts as God, and bestows streaks of good luck onto them for their hard work and risk taking. For instance, when Douglas, Samuel s son, buys huge amounts of rosin at an opportune time, he is at first chastised, but then rewarded when it ends up being the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of many reasons that show stalactites are going to fall apart is their length. The colour yellow represents the stalactites length at the start of the year. The colour orange represents the stalactites length after 6 months. This will include its rainfall activity. This is an example of secondary data which I obtained from the Princess Margaret Rose Cave website. I chose this secondary data as I would not have the time to collect and find the right lengths of the stalactites and this data really reflects on the rainfalls effect on the stalactites formation. • 9. A Sorority Is A Subculture Or A Segment Of Society s... All around the world sororities are a subculture or a segment of society s population on most college campuses (Macionis 64). These sororities have their own language, norms, beliefs, and values. Most college campuses have many charters or different sororities to choose from when a student wants to pledge a sorority. On the Saint Francis University campus, there are seven sororities that a female student can belong to. Each sorority has a different philanthropy which is a foundation that the sorority stands behind. For example Delta Phi Epsilon stands behind the Educational Foundation, this foundation helps women get the education that they deserve. Sororities are known for creating a bond between girls that last a life time. The sororities have their own language, they use words like pledge, bid, big, little, active, lavaliere, letters, and philanthropy. A pledge is a person who accepts a bid, and a bid is an invitation to a specific chapter at their school (Nakagoshi 1). When a female student wants to pledge a sorority they interview for a bid and the sorority decides if they want to have the new student pledge or not. If the pledge gets the bid then the student gets a big, a big is an older girl who has been part of the sorority for a year of more, and the big is like a big sister they are supposed to care of their little or new pledge (Nakagoshi 1). • 10. Epilogue To Avi s Narrative The first thing Avi became aware of was the silence. It struck her as odd unfamiliar. It was the kind of quietness that sinks into the marrow of your bones and fills your ears, immobilizing you like a great weight on your limbs. Silence that sets you on edge and makes the world feel askew. It was the silence that comes after a storm or a battle, as a wounded earth begins to set itself right again. Yet, just behind the silence, almost too insignificant to even notice, there was a faint hum. Like the buzz of an electric fence or a fly hovering by a window somewhere. Constant and pulsing, it compelled Avi to open her eyes. She was staring at a wall. Metal, with a greenish tint to it s cold, water stained surface. Confused and still half asleep, ... Avi felt a wave of guilt was over her as she realized she d nearly not recognized the other girl. Oh thank goodness! We were worried you might not remember. Meg said in relief, taking the distance between them in three steps and throwing her arms around Avi s neck. A jolt of pain shot through Avi s leg as Meg s slight frame crashed into Avi s sore body, making her grunt, and glance down at her leg, only then realizing that a rough looking bandage was tied around her calf. Oh, I m sorry. Meg gasped, pulling away. Are you okay? She looked down at Avi s leg. But Avi s mind was racing. • 11. Essay on Explaining Aggression Explaining Aggression One of the achievements of social psychology has been in extending explanations of aggression and violence away from merely being reflections of the inner state of individuals There many ways of explaining aggressive behaviour in humans. Some theories view aggression as an important part of our evolutionary heritage , others as an imbalance in hormones or neurotransmitters in the brain. Early psychological theories of aggression explained aggressive behaviour as an automatic consequence of personal frustration. Joseph said that the experiment only involves harm to an inflatable doll not a human being, therefore it is not a good example of aggression. Johnston found that children who behaved violently towards the doll were rated as more violent generally by teachers. Aggression is often described as antisocial behaviour but by observing adult aggressive behaviour being rewarded children may think this behaviour is acceptable and normative. Therefore it shows that social learning theory explains that is more about learning behaviour rather than being a reflection of an individual s inner state. It also explains the findings which show that children who watch violent films are more likely to behave in an aggressive way. Social learning theory can account for cultural and individual variation; it can also explain why we behave aggressively in some situations and not others. When we are rewarded or reinforced for behaving aggressively this is related to specific situations, in other situations we may find this behaviour isn t rewarded. This is known as context dependent learning. In spite of the success of social learning theory, there are reasons for arguing that Bandura s approach is limited and that aggressive ... By Do Nhat Nam Throughout the world of Harry Potter, the power of maternal love has been portrayed as being vital and tremendous. From Harry Potter s mother sacrificing herself for Harry s life to Molly Weasley defending her daughter Ginny Weasley s life in the Hogwarts battle, the role of a mother has always been that of a guardian angel that is willing to sacrifice her life for her daughter or son. Without maternal love through infancy, one would lack a sense of attachment, face trouble establishing relationships and grasping the concept of affection during adolescence and adulthood. Most Harry Potter characters were blessed with a mother, yet the two grand protagonist and antagonist Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort are two exceptions. Both of their mothers, Lily Potter and Merope Gaunt, passed away at their infancy, yet while Harry Potter became great and righteous, Lord Voldemort became the most notorious Dark wizard of all time one whose heart lacked compassion, who reeks with hatred and consumed in rage. Mao Zedong however, left a legacy that far outweighs the aforementioned argument. How Mao improved CHINA internally Mao Zedong s most central passion was his insistence in the empowerment of the peasants. Once Mao Zedong ascended to leadership, land reform became the principal feature of the Chinese Communist Party line (Chang, 2014). In 1950 he oversaw the implemented the Agrarian Reform Law (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2014) which gave the land to the peasants, and authorised people s courts to try their former landlords. Negation, she hypothesizes, is used much more frequently by Joseph Heller in his novel than is average for other modern pieces of American and English literature. In addition, Downing believes that Heller uses certain types of negation more frequently than other authors, and that this is what makes Catch 22 s satirical humor stand out so prominently. Overall, Downing s article would be moderately helpful if it were included in a college textbook on Catch 22. The first thing that Downing had to consider while doing this was what types of negation were more likely to be used in Catch 22. But, we must then determine, on a quantitative level, how much more unintelligent that cow really is when compared to humans. And, once we decide that, we must then decide if that margin of intelligence is enough for us humans to slaughter that cow in order to benefit human kind from its products. Different ICF systems also vary in the shape of the resulting concrete within the wall: Flat systems form an even thickness of concrete throughout the walls, like a conventionally poured wall 3rd Generation ICF: most common Waffle Grid systems create a waffle pattern where the concrete is thicker at some points than others 2nd Generation ICF: somewhat lower structural strength fire resistance Post and Beam or screen grid systems form discrete horizontal and vertical columns of concrete 1st Generation ICF: least resistance to fires Benefits Manufacturers commonly cite the following advantages compared to traditional building materials, especially in residential and light commercial construction. It needs to be said, however, that it is questionable what is meant by traditional building materials ; this comparison apparently assumes different worst case alternatives for each point. Minimal, if any, air leaks, which improves comfort and less heat loss compared with walls without an air barrier Thermal resistance (R value) typically above 3 Km²/W (in American customary units: R 17); this results in saving energy compared with uninsulated masonry. High sound absorption, which helps produce peace and quiet compared with framed walls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. A Comparison of Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells Essay A Comparison of Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells There are two main types of cells in the world. The simplest cells such as bacteria are known as Prokaryotic cells, and human cells are known as Eukaryotic cells. The main difference between each of these cells is that a eukaryotic cell has a nucleus and a membrane bound section in which the cell holds the main DNA which are building blocks of life. Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus. The chromosomes which are found in prokaryotes are usually spread in the cytoplasm. In eukaryotic cells the chromosomes remain together inside the nucleus and there is a clear nuclear membrane that is surrounding the nucleus. Another difference between the two cells is that, in prokaryotic cells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A nucleus is a membrane which can be found in most eukaryotic cells. The main functions of a nucleus cell are: Being involved in cell division All the functions of other cells are done under the instruction of the nucleus DNA is the building blocks of life which are found within the nucleus. The main function of the Endoplasmic Reticulum is to produce, store and transport proteins and lipid to most of the cell organelles. The Endoplasmic Reticulum is a large organelle that looks like sheets of folded membranes. There are two types of Endoplasmic Reticulum the Smooth ER and the Rough ER. you can distinguish that both of the ER s are different to each other, this is shown in the diagram above that one is smooth ER and the other is rough ER the rough ER has ribsomes attracted to it while the smooth ER does not have ribosomes attached to it. The two ER s have different function to each other. Structure of Endoplasmic reticulum: Sheets of membrane with ribosomes outside (for rough ER). Forms a tubular network throughout the cell. Function of Endoplasmic reticulum: Transports chemicals, proteins, and lipids between cells and within cells The endoplasmic reticulum provides a large surface area for the organization of chemical reactions to take place and synthesis. In size Ribsomes are about 25 un is diameter. They are arranged in to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would like to see the end of sanctions for refusing jobs, the elimination of workfare schemes, and the provision of a basic income replacing both in work and out of work benefits, says Coppola. Replace the cheap benefits for survivable pay, and eliminate sanctions and workfare schemes that are denying individuals to work and receive fair pay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This simple analysis does of course assume that unemployment is a real threat to a worker s standard of living. But arguments that the unemployed choose leisure imply that unemployment is a choice. Employers argue that unemployment is not their fault, it s the employees who choose to be lazy. iii. If a firm can t pay its workers enough to live on, then it isn t a viable business, because it is dependent on wage subsidies. This is why businesses must cut jobs, if they cannot meet minimum wages at the very least, it is totally unfair, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
