How To Legalize Organ Transplants
In the 1950 s scientist and doctors realized that they could transplant one person s organ into another s
body performing their first successful transplant. Since then numerous lives have been saved and
prolonged due to organ transplants. Every year since then the amount of people needing organ
transplants have continued to grow. This growth has exceeded the amount of organ donations leaving
thousands waiting for an organ they may never receive. In desperation, people have turned to illegal
alternative methods to obtain an organ for fear of death. They offer monetary gain to others for much
needed organs, however the problem with that is most countries have not legalized the sale of organs.
Therefore, a black market for human body parts supplies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years, the initial hope begins to fail as
one is knocking on deaths door. The U.S. Department of Health Human Services reports, an average
of 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that can t take place because of the shortage of
donated organs (U.S. Department of Health Human Services, 2013). An article in The Penn Center
guide to bioethics states, One of these is a child or a baby. These deaths are especially tragic because
many of them could be prevented if there were more organs available (Caplan, 2009). It must remain a
frightening matter to realize that one s days are numbered and devoid of a transplant one will have to
leave behind loved ones, incomplete business, and unpaid bills for others to acquire. Frustration and
anger must attack the hearts of those helplessly watching as loved ones watch their spouses, children,
parents, and friends start to fade away. As their hope dwindles and desperation turns into anger at the
realization that death is preventable, many turn to alternative methods to obtain much needed organs.
Therefore, while laws insist that altruism is the only way one is to obtain an organ a black market for
organs has manifested itself. The black market

The Day Of The Summer Tennis Team
It was the day that I tried out for the summer tennis team. I was so excited because my mom would be
coming to tryouts. It is going to be clear skies from now on. Maybe this can be something that my
mother and I can bond over. Maybe she will see that I am important like my baby brother, Quinn. I
hope she is not mad at me from the times I talked back to her, I whispered in a very quiet tone. The
small bleachers were speckled with people like chocolate chips on a cookie. Then, tryouts started. My
mom had dropped me off and drove around a block to change my brother s diaper.
Then the coach shouted my name, Ally, you re up. My heart did a mini flip as the words echoed
through my ears.
But my mom is not here, I squeaked, in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mom to pay attention to me. This same thing always happens in books. The only child gets a sibling
and they don t feel important. I thought if she saw me at tryouts, and saw how good I was at tennis,
that she would care about me more. That did not work. I thought some more about it. Not long after,
my dad showed up to drive me home.
Let s go home, my dad told me with no explanation and I came with him, no question asked. Split

I was standing there, in my new bathing suite and I was coming in the house from a nice long swim. I
was waiting by the back door on stone tile to go through the garage, through the front door. My
mother s words went over and over in my head, like a beating drum. Wait until I come back to walk
across the garage floor. The grass shook in the breeze, not able to walk forward away like I seemed to
be. My mom had not come back and I was pacing the ground. Little drops of water hit the ground
from my swim suit like rain dripping on sidewalks. Then it hit me at full power. My mom was
probably catering to my little brother again. I know he was only three months old but, I am important
too, right. I stopped myself because I was doubting that I was important. I knew then what I need to
do. I needed to put all my pride into me and cross the floor, but was stopping

You Are Never Too Old to Do Anything
You are never too old to do anything People that think that elderly people are too old to do the things
which the younger generation are quite capable to do are guilty of both; lack of conviction and
uncertainty. Long standing people are just as capable as we are of fulfilling their dreams and living the
way that they want to live due to them being more experienced than us in life for which they know
more than the younger generation. Undoubtedly, there will be differing opinions from their family
members and from the people that care about them about this issue. However, taking the movie Rocky
as an example, it was is clearly obvious how outstandingly well talented boxer he was for which he

1968 Dbq
During the 1960s our nation was going through many important and crucial events. From the Vietnam
War, to national politics, and even civil rights, our country was changing a lot. In particular the year
1968 was a year that was filled with change, conflict, and turmoil. With events such as the
assassinations of prominent political and social leaders within the United States such as Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy to the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, and everything else in
between, 1968 proved to be a very challenging year for America. The events of 1968 didn t only
impact the period of time that they occurred in but they continue to influence society today.
Specifically, the topic of drug use today continues to be very controversial ... Show more content on

Martin Luther King Jr. wasn t the only prominent societal figure who was assassinated as Robert F.
Kennedy suffered the same fate as King did. After Robert Kennedy s death his brother Edward paid
tribute to him and proceeded to speak fondly of his brother. Edward Kennedy described what must be
done in order to preserve the ideals of American society. Edward Kennedy preached his brothers
beliefs by saying that society is in control of the future and can mold it in whatever way they please.
However, hard work and reason would be required in order to shape our destiny(doc. 4). The purpose
for this was that Edward Kennedy wanted to try to preserve and keep alive his brothers ideals as they
had potential to change America for the better whether it be socially, economically, or politically.
Kennedy s death was a political turning point due to the fact that the country would end up being ran
by someone else other than Kennedy. This meant that America s focuses shifted and it wa on route to a
different future. A future that was quite different than what Kennedy would have imagined and might
likely would have occurred because he was tipped to win the election. So in order to commemorate his
brother and keep his ideals and values alive Edward Kennedy wanted to give a last gasp public tribute
to his brother. Assassinations aside, there were still some other problems plaguing the country, one of
those being drug use. In document 9 Arlene Sklar Wein puts her hallucinogenic

Doctor Prescriptions
ortunately for pharmaceutical companies, the United States government has not done nearly enough to
regulate the companies. Pharmaceutical companies are able to spend millions of dollars on marketing,
and not only on the cheesy direct to consumer ads we see ending with ask your doctor . The drugs that
these companies make are not a standard item on the market; one needs permission to obtain drugs.
Pharmaceutical companies understand this, so they spend a majority of their marketing funds on
advertising to health care providers. In 2012, of the $27 million the industry spent on marketing, $24
million was for doctors (Pew Charitable Trusts). Aside from the skewed proportions in marketing fund
division, 9 out of 10 pharmaceutical companies spent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously stated, the actions on the industry do sway a doctor s prescriptions. Many problems
arise from this, namely the fact of expense and health. According to the FDA, generic brand drugs can
be 80% more expensive than their name brand counterpart. The FDA also mandates that each must be
bioequivalent. The doctors prescription could cost 80% more because of the influence of drug
companies. Another factor of this marketing is known as going off label , or drugs being pushed for
symptoms they weren t made for. This is part of the reason opioids have caused the United States
heroin outbreak. Drug companies designed extreme pain killers, meant for terminal illnesses. That isn
t a large market, so companies began pushing doctors to prescribe them for more and more cases. This
is also on the rise with antidepressants and anxiety medication. Pharmaceutical companies over
advertising their drug is dangerous and has resulted in lawsuits for almost every major drug company.
Famously, the English drug company GSK paid $3 billion in a lawsuit for over prescribing their
antidepressant, Paxil (New York Times). Pfizer, Johnson Johnson, Abbott, and Eli Lilly have all paid
at least $1 billion for pushing off label prescriptions. However, many people support this entire
practice because of the free market, and that companies have the right to advertise. While the free
market is an integral part of Western culture, drugs are not just some product. Prescription drugs are
tablets of complex chemistry backed by scientific research and approved of personal use by someone
who has been to higher education for nearly twelve years. For example, sodas are an item on the free
market. Coke and Pepsi have a right to advertise and try to create the better soda. They may convince
someone to change brand loyalty, and there s little to no consequence. Drugs have life changing, or
life ending, potential and complex

The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring Essay
In The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring, Tom Beauchamp displays statistics of
underrepresented races and genders in institutions. The inequality is due to the underlying persistent
racism originating decades ago. It has been pervasively executed despite federal laws for equality. The
expectation for a level playing field is not a reality, as statistically show with underrepresented African
Americans (1. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0228). Beauchamp points out that at first sight, reverse
discrimination appears immoral, because it crafts a prejudice for one race over another. However, he
asserts that this inference is not applicable in the real world where ubiquitous prejudice still exists as
indicated by statistics. Because we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an overrepresentation of minorities in inferior schools, living in a crime infested city, and
lacking family support (4. Rachels, CC2011, p 0203). If a minority with disadvantages reaches the
same qualifications as an advantaged Caucasian, the minority is more deserving, indicative of the
increased effort needed to put in. Fairness is a necessary condition in Rachels argument and minorities
that are qualified for institutions are generalized to have put in more sweat. In some cases when this
generalization is true, preferential treatment is considered fair. To establish a level playing field,
Beauchamp suggests a policy of strong affirmative action. This includes quotas to be implemented and
supported by government sanctions in a timely manner. Commitment to quotas will statistically show
progress towards a society built on equality. Beauchamp believes that laws are ineffectively
implemented and it is unclear to tell if institutions are intentionally discriminating unless numbers are
available (5. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0230). Beauchamp s policy is an argument where the end result
morally justifies the method to get there. However, Rachels suggests a moderate form of reverse
discrimination where in a pool of equally qualified candidates, those challenged by unearned
disadvantages get preference. This consequentialist argument suggests that young minorities do not
have role models or mentors to emulate.

1.3 Skopos theory
I will use the skopos theory to support my ideas in this whole thesis, which will be explained roughly
in this paragraph and in detail with instance in the following part. Skopos theory is the most important
part of the German Functionalist School. It was first advanced by Hans J.Vermeer and improved by
Justa Holz−Manttari and Christiane Nord later. The word skopos comes from Greek, meaning
purpose, motive and function . The point of this theory is the principle of purpose, defined by those
German Functionalist translators as every activities of translation is decided by the purpose of
translation, which in one word means method depends on purpose (Reiss and Vermeer 1984: 101;
Nord 2001: 29).
Generally speaking, the skopos theory believes that the result decides the method. So this theory
solves the contradiction between some of the traditional western translation theory, such as equivalent
value , equivalent effect and functional equivalence . It discards the traditional western translation
standard, believing that the quality of a translation is not judged by its equivalent value or equivalent
effect with the original version but the adequacy with the purpose of translation. It means that
translation can use various methods to translate, such as literal translation or rewrite or any method
between these two, as long as it can help to achieve the expected function of the

The Gender Differences Of The United States Work Force

Sex Segregation in the U.S. Work Force
This research paper focuses on the gender differences that take part in the U.S. workforce. It discusses
the manner in which men and women are subtly segregated. We refuse to believe that discrimination
as such continues to exist in the 21st century, yet it s the ugly truth. A gender gap is created due to
differences in authority, pay, and promotion. Research shows us that economic variations exist and,
through past cases we see that even though it has been twenty five years that Title VII has passed;
segregation ceases to exist. Coined by Hymowitz and Schellhardt in the Wall Street Journal more than
twenty years ago, the barriers women face in the workplace earned the term glass ceiling, continues to
exist in U.S. labor. It is important to draw attention to this problem, because it stands as a prevalent
issue as women strive for equal success as men, yet are held back.
Have you ever stopped to consider why such drawbacks prevail in our society? Most wish to believe it
s due to women playing dual roles as mothers and full time employees. Others believe that it s a mere
coincidence, and that segregation no longer takes a role in our world. From a young age, gender
segregation is inculcated beyond our notice. Boys wear blue and girls wear pink. Boys play with cars,
guns, and video games, while girls play with dolls, make up, and have tea parties. This inception of
gender

Islam Gender Equality
Islam has gradually claimed its title as the second largest religion in the world after Christianity
(Severson, 2011). Muslims make up majority of the population in 49 countries (Desilver, 2017), but
within those countries, approximately forty five of them are inhabited by half a billion Muslim women
(Galloway, 2014). Throughout history, women have been disregarded, dehumanized, disenfranchised,
and censored in society. Within Islam, it has been widely believed that Muslim women are secluded
within their homes. To many, this seclusion highlights a religious culture that oppresses Muslim
women. The controversy of gender inequality between Muslim men and women continues to derive
from the historical inferior position of women (Galloway, 2014). Like other religions, there are several
controversial aspects within the religion that contribute to growing issues of gender equality in society.
In this case, Islam is perceived to be the backbone of gender inequality between Muslim men and
women. It is important to put into context the social roles of women in the past, the inferior position of
women, and the cultural and traditional aspects of Islam. Issues of gender equality within Islam are
mainly derived from the interpretations of the Qur an and their religious practices. This study will
examine the effects Islam has on the role of women and how it can promote religious empowerment
towards Muslim women, and cultivate equality between the genders. It is important to consider

Life Cycle Assessment Paper
LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT
Life cycle assessment is a tool for systematically analyzing environmental
performance of products or processes over their entire life cycle, including raw material
extraction, manufacturing, use, and end of life (EOL) disposal and recycling (Cabeza et.al.
2013). Hence, LCA is often considered a cradle to grave approach to the evaluation of
environmental impact.
The concept of life cycle studies has been developed over the years, mainly in the
70 s and 80 s. Moreover, life cycle studies had focused on the quantification of energy and
materials used and wastes released into the environment throughout the life cycle. With the
current push toward sustainable construction, LCA has gained importance as an ... Show more content

Hiroshima
By John Hersey
Summary
The first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. The city is pretty much
utterly destroyed, and thousands died. Though there are some survivors of the blast, they still are
suffering from burns and injuries. This book goes through the lives of six of the survivors. Mrs.
Hatsuyo Nakamura is watching her neighbors kids when the bomb detonated. The house was
destroyed and they were all covered with debris. An office clerk, Miss Toshiko Sasaki, is trying to talk
to a coworker, then she is blasted out of nowhere. She is then trapped under all of the heavy bookcases
in the office. At this point she has a broken leg. Masakazu Fujii is ... Show more content on

Mrs. Nakamura is still receiving medical help for the many radiation illnesses, she is also staying
away from the political rallies that are held by some of the other survivors. Those survivors are now
called the hibakusha. Dr. Sasaki ran a very good medical practice. He then lost his wife to cancer.
Father Kleinsorge was ill for many years after the event, he was in and out of the hospital. Miss Sasaki
became a nun, helping people to die in peace. Dr. Fujii died of cancer. Mr. Tanimoto, the reverend, he
traveled to America a few time trying to raise money to aid the hibakusha, he then retired.
Professional Review Hiroshima was, as I m sure Hersey hoped, an eye opening read. Hersey s style
provided for not only an interesting story, but also a very personalized, journalistic view of the event
and its aftermath. I d strongly recommend the book to others; on the front cover, the Saturday Review
of Literature is quoted as saying, Everyone able to read should read it, and I agree. If we do not wish
to see such death, devastation, and despair again, in our civilized world, we need accounts like this to
educate us.

Can a Native State Exist Within a Canadian State
Political Scientists, Thomas Flanagan and Roger Townshend explain the key to the big question: Can a
Native State Exist Within a Canadian State? in the readings: The Case for Native Sovereignty and
Native Sovereignty: Does Anyone Really Want an Aboriginal Archipelago? . The essay will outline
and provide evidence to both sides, whether there could or could not exist a Native State in Canada.
The document will argue that Natives are not organized enough to form their own government.
Throughout the decades, Natives have agonized many savageries at the hands of the European settlers.
The essay will take Flanagan s side with the belief that Natives should not be sovereign, using the

This would gradually abolish the Native rituals, religions, languages and traditions. Non Native
children had been separated from Native schools to regular English schools. They were not allowed to
practice their traditions, religions or language. They have been pushed away from their society and
that caused physical, sexual and emotional assault. Hunting rights were limited and the environment
of Natives and that has been affected by expansion events. One of the reasons why Aboriginals are in
jeopardy is caused by Canadian societies, which are outside their reserves. When they want to
participate and interact with non Natives, they are being suppressed.
On the reserves, there is a lack of education and Natives are forced to move from place to place to find
a job and live a stable life something that their reserve cannot provide. In the history of Canada, before
the Europeans have arrived to the North America, the Aboriginals struggled with their individual form
of government with a steady economy. Hence the fact, if the country were to allow them to form their
own government, they would be able to create and keep their sovereignty. Within past, the Natives
became familiar of using the easiest style of society, called a hunter gatherer society. Using this out of
date form of civilization they were repetitively considering for new regimes and food. Accordingly,
they were being forced to endlessly travel from momentary reserves.

Argumentative Essay On Human Cloning
Human cloning is threatening our society. Yes it has benefits but with these benefits there s a risk. First
and foremost i disagree with cloning because, it hasn t developed yet and it can take a lot of tries
before getting a human being to this earth. On the other hand, animals have been cloned since the
beginning of this technology. They have a 70% chance of being born safely but that is not the same for
humans the percentage to clone a human is 20% to 40% which is not even past birth. There has been a
lot of failure on cloning but maybe one day it will be perfected. But over the years cloning has
increased at a more stable rate. This new cloning technology can really wrong because, you re
basically make a robot just in a human form factor. One good thing about cloning is that they can
clone certain organ cells and damaged tissue. But to do something like that it s 50,000 dollars which
only certain people can afford. That s why is not extremely common to hear someone say that they
have cloned a tissue or an organ. However cloning is not cheap it s expensive but is it worth it?
Favorably, it all depends on what you would like to clone and does it have a value to your day to day
life. Supposing that you want to clone your dog or cat the estimated price is from 25,000 thousand
dollars and it can reach higher pricing. People who have the money to do these sort of things must
have been with that pet for a long time and that pet means a lot to them. However when you re cloning
a pet yes they are going to have the same characteristics as the one who passed away. Although it won
t feel the same as having your original pet. In my opinion people are doing this because it s an outlet
for them to forget how their pet and pretend like it s still there with them. Part of these people don t
even think on what they are doing because they are so inlove with their animals. They should really
think about cloning pets and them make a decision. But if it means a lot to them then they should do it
at there own risk. Know in an article named What happened to cloning? They are stating that back in
the 2000 s they thought of banning cloning but politicians could not agree at what stage of
development cloning should be

The Summer Ma Program For Theatre Educators
Before I had applied for the Summer MA program for theatre educators, I knew my teaching of
dramaturgy was lacking. I had no systematic way of analyzing a script and being able to pull out the
important aspects of the author s intentions. Many aspects of theatre history and dramatic
interpretation had been left out of my education. After classes my appetite had been wetted, I
purchased a number of books to continue my education over the winter break, one of the books was
History of the Theatre 10th Edition by Oscar G. Brockett and Franklin J. Hildy. Even though an
overview of some much history it has lead me to want to teach so much deeper lessons to my students.
After the eye opening dramaturgy classes my mind has been washed with ideas on how to proceed, so
much information had been given to us, I find it hard to concentrate on a single area. I truly look
forward to teaching this year and these lessons. My first desire is to come at this with the outcome in
mind, I had wanted to compete in the state UIL design competition since becoming a theatre teacher
but wasn t sure where to begin. I had previously decided to turn my second year classes into the more
theory related area of the field of study, but wasn t sure how to proceed. I knew I wanted to focus
more on the higher of Bloom s domains of learning, specifically creating. With the final goal in mind
of competing in UIL design completion, I started devising a plan to educate my students in the skills

Australia s Involvement In Vietnam
In July 1964 Australia sent troops to another war. No, not a war of trenches or prisoners, but a war of
close quarter combat, excessive mortar firing and the dreaded napalm. Yes Vietnam. This decision was
based on multiple reasons. The first reason was that we needed to stick to our treaty s, The South East
Asia treaty (SEATO) and ANZUS, the alliance of Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The
second reason was the fear of invasion from countries in the north that would be quickly taken over by
communism i.e. the domino theory. Australia had been sent a request from the South Vietnamese
government for involvement along side the US. Rumours going around back then were that the United
states were curious to see if Australia would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main substance of the treaty stated, The parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of
any one of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is
threatened in the Pacific This means that Australia was not forced into sending allied troops to help the
US, but the government believed that if they did, they would be in Americas good books for future
conflicts. This is seen in Allan Renouf s letter On the contrary, we believe it will prolong and deepen
the suffering of that unhappy people so that Australia s very name may become a term of reproach
among them The Southeast Asia Treaty Organisation (SEATO) was an international organisation for
collective defence in Southeast Asia. This treaty was used by the US to gain support from these allied
countries of Australia, so there would be less conflict, if communism spread that south.
The Vietnam War was the longest twentieth century conflict in which Australians participated in.
Overall there was no outcome to the conflict and over 4000 injured and 500 died. Australia joined
with the US because of the growing fear of communism, the ANZUS and SEATO treaties and
Australia s forward defence strategies. The outcome of the war was a failure, but Australia has come

Parents Whose Child Died From A Drug Overdose
Introduction
Parents whose child died from a drug overdose not only are grieving the loss of their child, they are
also susceptible to mental health issues, and may experience a greater amount of grief (Feigelman et

being blamed (Feigelman et al., 2011) (Guy, 2004) (da Silva, Noto, Formigoni, 2007). Furthermore,
parents experience feelings of guilt for not interceding, and preventing the death of their child
(Feigelman et al., 2011) (Guy, 2004) (da Silva, Noto, Formigoni, 2007). Moreover, due to the social
and physical effects felt after the loss of a child, parents need additional support to potentially avert
any negative effects (Aho et al., 2014) ) (Arnold Gemma, 2008; Hogan Schmitt, 2002; Kreicbergs,
Lannen, Onelov, Wolfe, 2007; Murphy, Johnson, Cain, Das Gupta, Dimond Lohan, 1998; White,

Description of program
The proposal of this project is to offer a service to parents grieving the loss of their child, with
emphasis on children who passed away as the result of a drug overdose. This program would provide
a group therapy type of counseling for parents searching for help. Research has indicated that social
support is effective in the grief process (Aho et al., 2014) (Arnold Gemma, 2008; Hogan Schmitt,

Digital Image And Its Effect On The Quality Of Image
Abstract: In image processing, noise reduction and restoration of image is expected to improve the
qualitative inspection of an image and the performance criteria of quantitative image analysis
techniques Digital image is inclined to a variety of noise which affects the quality of image. The main
purpose of de noising the image is to restore the detail of original image as much as possible. The
criteria of the noise removal problem depends on the noise type by which the image is corrupting .In
the field of reducing the image noise several type of linear and non linear filtering techniques have
been proposed . Different approaches for reduction of noise and image enhancement have been
considered, each of which has their own limitation and advantages.

INTRODUCTION
Digital Image process could be a part of digital signal process .The area of digital image process refers
to handling digital pictures by means of a computing device. Digital image process has many merits
on analog image process; it permits a significantly wider assortment of algorithms to be apply to input
file and may keep from issues for instance the build up of noise and signal deformation throughout
processing. Digital Image process involves the modification of digital information for improving the
image qualities with the help of system. The process helps in maximize the clarity, sharpness of image

Prenatal Androgen Model Essay
The prenatal androgen model, which has become a cliché in the field, argues that homosexuality in
men is due to under exposure to prenatal androgens and in women, due to over exposure.9 Attempts to
support the model included hormone measurements, animal experimentations and studies of rare
disorders (i.e., congenital adrenal hyperplasia and testicular feminization) all of which revealed
inconsistent results.10 In the following surge of research in prenatal androgen model, indirect
consequences of prenatal hormone impact, such as digit ratio, fingerprint patterns and oto acoustic
emissions have been studied, without reaching definitive conclusions.9 It is warranted that prenatal
androgenization is essential for male gender identity development, but apparently not decisive.11

These hormones have a critical role in cell differentiation during development and help maintain
thermogenic and metabolic homeostasis in the adults.12 Thyroid disorders are highly prevalent in the
population and mostly affect women in childbearing age.13 In pregnancy, thyroid gland displays mild
to moderate enlargement because of increased physiological demands. Thyroid function is altered by 4
factors in pregnancy: i) the transient increase in human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) during the first
trimester, which cross reacts with thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor; ii) the estrogen
induced rise in thyroxine binding globulin (TBG) which is the major transport protein for thyroid
hormone; iii) increased autoimmunity; and iv) increased urinary iodide clearance, which can cause
impaired thyroid hormone production in areas of low iodine supply.12,14 17 Consequently, the levels

Consequences Of Parental Divorce For Child Development
Economical: As divorce separates families, this situation can cause financial hardship on divorce
families as each household transition from two incomes to one. This reduced income can place
economic and financial struggles of single parents trying to support children. Separated parents are
now each responsible for individual housing, utilities, and various other expenses. With divorce, there
are high legal fees that result from the divorce proceedings and custody battles over children. These
economical issues can place additional stress on the families and children.
Developmental
Another potential impact of divorce on children can be seen through their development. The article,
Consequences of Parental Divorce for Child Development, by H. Kim (2011) reviews the impact of
divorce on children s development. This study compares children before and after divorce to measure
the implications towards development. This study found that children had setbacks in test scores,
interpersonal skills, were more likely to internalize behaviour (Kim, 2011). This study did not find any
external behaviour issues or reduced reading capability (Kim, 2011). This information demonstrates
the divorce issues can impact their learning abilities, which is something crucial to everyday life. The
developmental impacts can coincide with future learning abilities and academic achievement in some
children dealing with parental divorce.
Cognitive:
The impacts of divorce can also influence children s

Social Injustice In Bergen County
Education Level
In Bergen County, there are 78 school districts and three charter schools ( At a Glance , 2016, p. 9).
The education level in Bergen County is relatively higher than in other counties in New Jersey. In
2014, around 28.9 percent of the population ages 25 and older have a bachelor s degree. Meanwhile,
around 25 percent are high school graduates ( Educational Attainment , n.d., p. 1 2).
Housing
As stated earlier, Bergen County is a relatively wealthy county. Being that the income level in Bergen
County is high, it is no wonder that the housing costs will be high too. In 2014, about 43.6 percent of
the monthly housing costs average around $2,000 or more ( Financial Characteristics , n.d., p. 1). This

shelter at the Bergen County Shelter. Many factors cause homelessness like unemployment, lack of
affordable housing, no access to social services, mental health or substance abuse issues, etc.

One of the major aspects of the 1920 s was décor. Art and decoration obtained a role in nearly
everything during this time. From parties to everyday life décor was a very influential aspect during
this time.

In the novel The Great Gatsby, readers are treated with many examples of artistic, decorative, and
architectural design by Fitzgeralds excellent descriptions of the colorful environments and locations in

Coco Chanel created a fashion that began to grow rapidly in the 1920 s. She created suits and dresses
for women and they became very popular and still are today. Another person that impacted design in
the 1920 s was Thomas W. Lamb. He was known as a famous theater and cinema designer. For
example, Thomas W. Lamb was known for designing hundreds of theaters and later known as the king
of theaters (Gray). Thomas helped to design movie theaters and this sparked an impact on the 20th
century. Many people enjoyed and took advantage of how much of an impact people, like Coco and
Thomas, had on the 1920 s. If it wasn t for people like them, we wouldn t have movie theaters and a
cute fashion for women today.
Bryant Morgan
Among many other things, art began to flourish and change during this era. One 1920 s décor critic
stated, The Art Deco Movement influenced the way that buildings were erected and clothes were made
(Modras). Art was such a major aspect during the 1920 s that it changed the way architects were
expected to design buildings. This created a new perspective on the way houses and major buildings
were looked at. In fact, these buildings were no longer just used for practical purposes but were now
created to be pleasing to the eye. In addition, in The Great Gatsby Nick notes, Gatsby s house is also a
very lavish building (Fitzgerald 14). Gatsby s

Violence In Chris Crutchers Whale Talk
Chris Crutchers book Whale Talk is a book about T.J. and the swim team but there are bigger things
going on that all revolve around violence. Violence is a huge key in this book because of Heidi, T.J. s
dads death, and the way Rich Marshall treats his family. Chris Crutchers purpose for writing Whale
Talk was to show violence and how it affects people by using diction, irony, and a modern connection.
Whale Talk uses a lot of swear words which is a form of diction. He uses swear words to emphasize
parts where things are intense for the characters. GET THESE GODD*** F*** N***** KIDS OUT

A Concise History Of Hong Kong
A Concise History Of Hong Kong was a prequel to one of the most fascinating places I have ever
traveled to. Going through history class, and growing up, I had heard many stories of Hong Kong,
China, Britain, and Japan, but I never realized how intertwined they truly were and how their stories
were really told. John Carroll did a remarkable job setting the scene for what Hong Kong was, where
they had been, and how they made it through all of it and came out with their own identity.

In reality, the picture in my head could not have been more wrong.
Just after arrival on January 2, 2016, we got to really experience the gigantic proportion of the Hong
Kong airport as compared to our little hub in Tulsa. After our time in the airport, we finally got on our
journey to Kowloon Peninsula to our hotel. The MTR ride was very enlightening, and I remember
feeling like a child in awe and merriment at all the fantastic sites that were before my eyes. I took a
deep breath and promised myself that regardless of what happened and no matter what I would not
ruin my trip with any negative thoughts. Professor Weaver reinforced this when he said, you do not
have to like it, but I encourage you to try it, and no whining . I was going to try and replay everything
that I had read and researched prior to the trip and see if I could remember the significance of the sites.
Making my top ten list was a great way of making us choose what we felt was important for our
journey and then going back and marking them off one by one.

Middle School Is A Period Of Transition For Adolescents
Middle school is a period of transition for adolescents. Students are no longer the children were once
were in elementary school; they are beginning to mature into the adults they will need to become.
Gifted learners at the middle school level face the same developmental and tasks tasks and challenges
that their peers do. Yet, gifted learners also possess traits that are different from their peers, which
often make them misunderstood or ignored. The need for teachers to identify these students and
differentiate instruction in a way that addresses the needs of the gifted students in the classroom is
becoming more crucial than ever. At times, being labeled as a gifted student can be a burden for the
student with that label. The Association for Middle Level Educators found, research indicates that
many gifted students deliberately fail tests or fail to do homework so that they don t appear to be too
smart (Payne, 2013, p. 15). The need for acceptance at this point in students lives outdoes the will to
achieve higher than their classmates. It is common in a middle school classroom to see students
choosing to have friends over excelling academically (Payne, 2013). Judy Willis, an Edutopia blogger
, asserts that appropriately challenging tasks are necessary for cognitive growth; if a task is too easy, . .
. the brain is not alert for feedback and there is no activation of the dopamine reward response system
(cited in Doubet, 2013, p. 10). The goal when challenging

Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
In the short story Young Goodman Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne constructs a thought provoking
narrative in which the protagonist, Goodman Brown, leaves his wife, Faith, for the night. While
Goodman Brown travels into the dark and evil forest, he encounters a series of temptations by the
devil where his faith is overcome by his innocence and curiosity. The character of Goodman Brown
symbolizes this loss of innocence and gaining of knowledge throughout the story. Goodman Brown
starts off his journey thinking highly of his family. He believes that they have been a race of honest
men and good Christians, since the days of the martyrs . The devil replies by telling him I have been
as well acquainted with your family as with ever a one among the Puritans; and that s no trifle to say. I
helped your grandfather, the constable, when he lashed the Quaker woman so smartly through the
streets of Salem. The devil tries to manipulate Goodman Brown by making him feel that questioning
his faith is normal because of his ancestors behavior. He tells the devil that he wants to return back to
the village for Faith s sake. While on the path Goodman Brown still thinks highly of the religious
leaders in the community even though he begins to doubt his own ancestry. Coming down the path

Epigenetic Regulation
Backgrounds
Epigenetic changes can be defined as functional, heritable changes in DNA, that do not involve a
change in the nucleotide sequence[1]. Transcriptional regulation can be controlled through epigenetic
modification and thereby can affect gene expression (44). Epigenetic modifications are important
regulators of numerous biological processes like spermatogenesis. Nowadays there is a lot of attention
to epigenetic changes as a role in identifying genetic causes of male infertility. In fact epigenetic
regulations play an important role in proper spermatogenesis and fertility preservation (45).

The Films Of Federico Fellini Analysis
Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of Federico Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press.
The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By
analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and
explain some of his interests in fantasy, the irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially
rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development
of his unique and personal cinematic style. Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments
in the life of the renowned Italian filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is
his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is
able to draw on a new archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of
in depth analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired
generations of not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that
Fellini s use of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole another level of intimacy
with the characters in the film, allowing for better characterization in his cinema. We can use this
information accumulated by Bondanella to emphasize the tremendous importance of Fellini s work.
The further analysis of Fellini s films, such as La Dolce Vita, 812, and City of Women,

aspect of your life as I stated above. If your mind and body are prepared for any obstacle that is

Sophocles Antigone
The Two Protagonists of Antigone
In the classic model of dramatic structure, two characters move the action of the play from
introduction to climax to resolution with their conflict. One of these characters is the protagonist; the
other is the antagonist. The protagonist is generally regarded as the good guy, and the antagonist is the
bad guy. In Sophocles play Antigone, the lines between protagonist and antagonist are blurred. In the
Greek tradition, the title character is the protagonist, but in this play, the supposed antagonist Creon
also displays characteristics of the protagonist.
Webster s Dictionary defines protagonist as one who takes the leading part in a drama; hence, one who
takes lead in some great scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the way his actions work and feed the conflict throughout also make Creon fit our definition
of a protagonist. After Antigone s capture, the play centers on Creon. He boasts of his decision to the
town leaders (the Chorus in this play), and he argues with Tiresias about his actions and leadership
ability. Tiresias endless enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride
is hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the blows of ruin? /
That s dreadful too. (page 661).
Not only does Creon possess too much pride, but he is also stubborn, not unlike Antigone. However,
Creon s pride and stubbornness are related. He does not want to admit to himself or others that he
could be wrong, so he makes the same mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or
reversed his edict after his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting
that he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors (Laius, Oedipus,
Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role models for aspiring kings). Maybe he has
been king long enough that he has developed a large ego and does not recognize his own mortality.
Either way, his pride and stubbornness reflect in nearly every action that Creon makes in Antigone.
Creon undergoes a full realization in the play, which is

produced in 1990 also written by Tom Stoppard. The play and the movie follow these two minor
characters adventures on and off the set of Shakespeare s Hamlet. Stoppard takes this unique
perspective to bring up some interesting topics that were only a small part of Hamlet. The major
theme is the idea of fate vs free will. Do these characters exhibit free will? Or are they simply taken

There are certain events that are going to happen no matter what. They are going to tell Hamlet that
they were sent to spy on him. Hamlet is going to find the letter and switch it with one that he writes.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are going to die. These are events that are set in stone just like the
events in a Newtonian universe are set in stone. From their perspective they are free beings making
their own choices (or not making choices as it were). From the perspective of the audience they are
fated to follow the plot of Hamlet. This still gives them an infinite array of possibilities outside of their
scenes of the play, but as soon as someone in the play Hamlet begins their fated discussion they only
have one possibility. To put it metaphorically, the play Hamlet is the Newtonian universe. The events

Compare And Contrast Lady Macbeth And Elizabeth The Golden...
Elizabeth the golden age an Oscar nominated award directed by Shekhar Kapur relates strongly to
William Shakespeare s Macbeth in many ways, such as how characters from each text relate to one
another, how similar themes are explored in both productions and how both revolve around the same
period, the Elizabethan period. However, the overarching similarity between the two is that, in both
Macbeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age, women hold power in their societies, whether it be through
their own ambition or through the natural order. Women in both the film and the play can exert
political power in male dominated societies, and to some extent in both theatre productions, powerful
women are born into their social and political status, but despite this, women must still to some extent
get rid of their feminist characteristics to fulfil this power, and thus the female characters from each
text differs in the outcome they meet due to their actions.
While women in both texts can indeed wield political power in patriarchal societies, the two texts
differ in the outcome the female characters meet because of this power. Both Lady Macbeth and
Queen Elizabeth I see their place as a vehicle for power and control in their societies. Lady Macbeth
can reach her power through manipulation of Macbeth, questioning his masculinity, thus resulting in
him feeling threatened, and forced to commit the acts he did, when you durst do it, then you were a
man. While in Elizabeth: The Golden Age Mary

Introduction
Charges of workplace discrimination is said to be at an all time high. During the 2015 fiscal year the
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity released information that claims there were more than 89,000
charges filed for workplace discrimination. One of the top ten charges is said to be retaliation, which
had an estimate 39,757 cases in 2015, which is 44.5 percent of all charges filed. Retaliation is said to
be in violation of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, For the purpose of this research paper I
will provide the understanding of both Acts, while also taking a case that deals with to provide the
basis of the case, the findings, and the outcome of the charges.
Title VII of the Civil Act of 1964 The Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 can be found in the
United States Code (Pub. L. 88 352) Volume 42.The basis of the act Title VII is to prevent
employment discrimination against race, color, religion, sex and national origin. Title VII prohibits an
employer from both (i) discriminating against an employee on the basis of sex, and (ii) retaliating
against an employee for complaining about prior discrimination or retaliation. According to the U.S.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the purpose of the act is to enforce the

Burundi Genocide
A person who is outside of their national country with the fear of being persecuted based on a specific
reason given by their country is referred to as a refugee. Persecution can occur if their country does
not agree on their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or the membership of a certain social
group. An internally displaced person (IDP) is a person who has not crossed an international border in
order for them to find refuge. Both groups of people are similar because in both cases there are people
who are running away from their own country or land. They could both be running from an issue, law,
or belief that they may not agree with and can be victimized for such beliefs. The difference between a
refugee and an internally displaced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only has the IRC stepped in to help these refugees but also UNHCR has partnered with the
governments of Tanzania to help Burundi. From 1993 to 2000, Tanzania has been host to almost 1.5
million refugees (Thomas 2009). The fact that there are so many refugees in Tanzania can have many
economical effects. The goods and infrastructure will have to be shared between the citizens and the
refugees that flee there. Although Tanzania camps are already getting full with so many refugees, the
IRC are helping by identifying unaccompanied children and providing them with care and counseling
to those who have survived sexual violence (Tanzania 2015). There are also allowing these refugee

Airplane is a comical movie that will have you gasping for air. It has more jokes and gaffs than most

how dated most of it is, plus the jokes aren t amazingly funny. You just don t get enough time to catch

Segregation In African American History
Segregation, an word that has haunted countless AfricanAmericans for years upon years. Segregation
is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things or being set
apart. It has cut AfricanAmericans short from many opportunities, leaving us dumb founded.
Segregation was formed 1896 when the Supreme Court passed the law of separation of whites and
blacks. This history changing passing of segregation has been the down fall of AfricanAmericans. Of
course, we had noble and courageous abolisher, such as Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, and many
other run a ways who made it to see a brighter, free day. Though, there was never anything who was a

SNCC had to live with local families because they lost their houses and their houses would be
firebombed whites who didn t want blacks to vote. The courageous actions of SNCC, CORE, and
SCLC forced the Kennedy Administration to briefly provide federal protection to temporarily abate
mob violence. Local FBI offices were usually staffed by Southern whites (there were no Black FBI
agents at that time) who refused to intervene to protect civil rights workers or local Blacks who were

Stonewall Lesbians In The Stonewall
No discussion of homosexual rights is complete without addressing the looming specter that is
Stonewall. According to Carter s (2005) account, on the night of June 28th, 1969, four plainclothes
police officers, two uniformed officers, a detective of the NYPD, and a deputy inspector approached
the doors of the Stonewall Inn and announced their arrival by shouting Police! We re taking the place!
Following this, they began arresting patrons of the Inn. The scene that night was one of unrest; even
before the riots, there was a general sense of unease and discontent. According to some accounts, the
police attempted to arrest a butch lesbian a stone dyke butch and cracked her over the head with a
baton. After several attempts to escape, as she was being forced into the squad car for the final time,
she shouted: Why don t you guys do something! At this point, the scene had gone from uneasy to
riotous. Although Carter questions whether the Stonewall Lesbian in fact existed, others, have claimed
that the mysterious figure was Stormé DeLarverie (DeLarverie and Chu, 2010). Regardless, what is
clear is the crowd began to throw coins, then followed it up by larger objects such as stones, bricks,
and trash cans. The officers remaining on the scene and a nearby reporter who would publish his
account in The Village Voice took shelter inside the bar, and the former patrons began a siege. At some
point, a nearby parking meter was ripped from the concrete and used as a battering ram. The

Persuasive Essay On Why Do Volunteer
Nowadays with people having busy lives, of school, job, and family, it could get complex in taking
time of someones day to volunteer; however, volunteering is monumental to people and the
community. Volunteer work helps connect people, it is exceptional for the mind and body, and can
advance career opportunities.
Making new friendships and strengthening them is to connect to one another with common interests.
In addition, one of the substantial ways to meet new people around the community is to do volunteer
work. By doing this makes the community stronger and expands people social groups by exposing
them to new people with similar interests and exciting and activities. In this time and age more young
adults have a arduous time becoming outgoing; moreover, the reason is that they do not go outside to
meet new people because they are invariably stuck on their phones checking out their social media.
However, volunteering gives young adults possibility to develop their social skills because usually
people are put in a group with the same interest and age range while doing volunteer work. Since the
groups have common interest, it makes it easier for teenagers to fraternize with people in the
community.
In today s time many teenagers have to fight against anxiety, stress, and depression alone, and
volunteering helps fight through those problems. Volunteer work helps fight against anxiety, stress,
and depression by being connected with other people. Being able to socialize,

An Analysis Of The Bird Feeder Division At Mde Essay
An analysis of the Bird Feeder Division at MDE was requested due to the unanticipated budget
variances that have occurred. The following memo will provide a breakdown of the costs.
Drafts of Costs
It is important to first understand what the specific product and period costs are in order to accurately
compute the associated costs. It is known that bird feeders are being produced. In this case the product
costs are: cedar, plastic, and indirect materials, factory worker labor, depreciation, utilities, and
maintenance and repairs. For period costs they are as follows: shipping, sales commissions, office
rent, advertising, liability insurance, office depreciation, office salaries. Once this is known then the
variable cost per unit and contribution margin can be found.
The first calculation is to find the budgeted and actual sales price per unit which is done by a pre given
computation and divided by the known budgeted and actual units. For budgeted the sales price per unit
was $21.00, while the actual sales price per unit was $21.10. In order to find the variable cost per unit,
the variable costs must be broken down and the total and actual budgets utilized (Horngren, Datar,
Rajan, 2015, pp 68 73). The variable costs are cedar, plastic, and indirect materials, factory worker
labor, shipping, and sales commissions. In this case shipping and sales commissions are pre given so
the calculation must simply match. In order to find the sales price per unit, the pre given unit

Nonconformity In Transcendentalism Poems
Nonconformity is one of the themes used in transcendentalism poems. It is used to mostly provide
support for another important theme, Self reliance. The story and theme are two different things by the
way. Nonconformity is usually used to give the reader a direct definitions of someone s originality and
individuality. In the beginning of Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he says, whoso would be a
man be a nonconformist. What he means by that is that if you are good at something, then you should
not take it for granted. Many people are good at things and like to brag but that is not how it should
be. You should be good also at not bragging because it will only bring negative attention to your skills
or talent. Self reliance is also

Literary Devices In Angela s Ashes
Angela s Ashes is a remarkable memoir in which the author, Frank McCourt, uses an abundance of
literary devices to convey the depressing story of his Irish Catholic childhood. Through his themes,
contrasts, and symbolism, McCourt creates a memoir that remains with the reader and teaches us all
about the circumstances of life that he faced growing up in Limerick, Ireland. The title of the book is
derived from the ashes that fall from Angela s cigarettes and those in the fireplace that she stares at
bleakly. The entire setting of the narrative feels weak, and lifeless. Angela s ashes also represent her
crumbling hopes. Her dreams of raising a healthy family with a supportive husband have withered and
collapsed, leaving her only with cigarettes

Consumer Culture Film Analysis
Marina Souza ICS 392: Consumer Culture Hildebrand 10/29/2016 Assignment #2: Consumer Culture
Film Analysis Wall E In short words, Wall E is the story of a robot who was designed to clean up an
extremely polluted Planet Earth. This animated movie has a much larger meaning than expected it
explains what can happen to our planet if we keep consuming the way we do. As indicated by the
movie, big corporations and greedy consumers destroyed our ecosystem. A planet that was full of
nature, water, fuels, animals and vegetation along with many other things simply vanished because of
a society that consumed too much. It is a pretty scary thought to watch this movie and think about how
we are on a process of doing the exact same thing. With a huge market of major retailers in the world
consuming more than necessary is easier and easier each day. Consumer culture today is thriving but
not necessarily in a good way. As consumer culture thrives, we have desires for products and services.
Consumer spending is a major part of a country s/world s economy and that makes the economy
strong but the aftermath is an unsustainable lifestyle. Although, Wall E didn t indicate exactly what
caused consumers to destroy the planet and then flee for the sake of human survival, there are many
guesses that can be made as to how it happened. One of the major points made in class during week
eight was the fact that the world is becoming overpopulated. This major issue can possibly be

How Prone Sleeping Is A Major Risk Factor For Sudden...
Problem/Purpose
The problem/purpose of this article is clearly and concisely stated, they discuss how prone sleeping is
a major risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and how some of the associated factors
may be signs of cerebral hypoxia. The researchers wants to know whether sleep positions, such as
supine or prone actually has an effect on cerebral oxygenation during infancy. The researchers believe
that this is an important area for research because lack of oxygenation could be a contributing factor to
sudden infant death syndrome. Although there has been a decline of SIDS throughout the years it
remains the leading cause of death among infants from one month to one year old.
Literature Review
The literature does include many current studies. They performed studies in 2008 that showed the
arousal process from sleep is altered by sleep positions in healthy term infants, they also found that at
two to three months of age the blood pressure falls while lying in a prone positon and in quiet sleep.
The blood pressure device that was used was previously validated in a study with preterm infants in
2010. Most of the sources used are journals so they would be considered primary sources.
We are aware that SIDS occurs during sleep, but a knowledge gap would be that we don t actually
know what causes SIDS. The cause of death is basically a ruling out process by a body examiner.
Theoretical Framework
Research Question/ Hypothesis
The article clearly stated in a

Learning And Teaching Of The Pedagogy Within The...
The Foundation Phase provides a diverse approach to learning for children which attend a setting
funded by the Local Education Authority and are aged between three and seven years old. The
learning and teaching of the pedagogy within the Foundation Phase focuses on the practitioner being
willing to continuously progress with personal learning and develop the ability to reflect on personal
experiences. (DCELLS. 2008). This is strengthened by the quote that a practitioner should be both self
aware, willing and able to reflect and analyse from a range of perspectives (Pound,L. 2011). The
Foundation Phase s progressive framework also allows for children to develop at an individual pace
within the same class and consists of seven areas of learning. The areas of learning include personal
and social development, well being and cultural diversity, language, literacy and communication skills
and mathematical development. The framework also includes Welsh language development,
knowledge and understanding of the world and physical development. Finally the Foundation Phase
includes creative development. The Foundation Phase has not always been implemented in the way it
is today. (Welsh Assembly Government. 2014.)
The Framework for Children s Learning for 3 7 year olds in Wales (The Framework) states that every
child should experience equal opportunities and have access to a curriculum that is flexible to each
child s needs. This is seen throughout the Foundation Phase within the

  • 2. How To Legalize Organ Transplants In the 1950 s scientist and doctors realized that they could transplant one person s organ into another s body performing their first successful transplant. Since then numerous lives have been saved and prolonged due to organ transplants. Every year since then the amount of people needing organ transplants have continued to grow. This growth has exceeded the amount of organ donations leaving thousands waiting for an organ they may never receive. In desperation, people have turned to illegal alternative methods to obtain an organ for fear of death. They offer monetary gain to others for much needed organs, however the problem with that is most countries have not legalized the sale of organs. Therefore, a black market for human body parts supplies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years, the initial hope begins to fail as one is knocking on deaths door. The U.S. Department of Health Human Services reports, an average of 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that can t take place because of the shortage of donated organs (U.S. Department of Health Human Services, 2013). An article in The Penn Center guide to bioethics states, One of these is a child or a baby. These deaths are especially tragic because many of them could be prevented if there were more organs available (Caplan, 2009). It must remain a frightening matter to realize that one s days are numbered and devoid of a transplant one will have to leave behind loved ones, incomplete business, and unpaid bills for others to acquire. Frustration and anger must attack the hearts of those helplessly watching as loved ones watch their spouses, children, parents, and friends start to fade away. As their hope dwindles and desperation turns into anger at the realization that death is preventable, many turn to alternative methods to obtain much needed organs. Therefore, while laws insist that altruism is the only way one is to obtain an organ a black market for organs has manifested itself. The black market ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is going to be clear skies from now on. Maybe this can be something that my mother and I can bond over. Maybe she will see that I am important like my baby brother, Quinn. I hope she is not mad at me from the times I talked back to her, I whispered in a very quiet tone. The small bleachers were speckled with people like chocolate chips on a cookie. Then, tryouts started. My mom had dropped me off and drove around a block to change my brother s diaper. Then the coach shouted my name, Ally, you re up. I thought some more about it. Not long after, my dad showed up to drive me home. Let s go home, my dad told me with no explanation and I came with him, no question asked. Split Chin I was standing there, in my new bathing suite and I was coming in the house from a nice long swim. I was waiting by the back door on stone tile to go through the garage, through the front door. My mother s words went over and over in my head, like a beating drum. Wait until I come back to walk across the garage floor. The grass shook in the breeze, not able to walk forward away like I seemed to be. My mom had not come back and I was pacing the ground. Little drops of water hit the ground from my swim suit like rain dripping on sidewalks. Then it hit me at full power. My mom was probably catering to my little brother again. You Are Never Too Old to Do Anything You are never too old to do anything People that think that elderly people are too old to do the things which the younger generation are quite capable to do are guilty of both; lack of conviction and uncertainty. Long standing people are just as capable as we are of fulfilling their dreams and living the way that they want to live due to them being more experienced than us in life for which they know more than the younger generation. Undoubtedly, there will be differing opinions from their family members and from the people that care about them about this issue. • 5. 1968 Dbq During the 1960s our nation was going through many important and crucial events. From the Vietnam War, to national politics, and even civil rights, our country was changing a lot. In particular the year 1968 was a year that was filled with change, conflict, and turmoil. With events such as the assassinations of prominent political and social leaders within the United States such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy to the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, and everything else in between, 1968 proved to be a very challenging year for America. The events of 1968 didn t only impact the period of time that they occurred in but they continue to influence society today. Specifically, the topic of drug use today continues to be very controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martin Luther King Jr. wasn t the only prominent societal figure who was assassinated as Robert F. Kennedy suffered the same fate as King did. After Robert Kennedy s death his brother Edward paid tribute to him and proceeded to speak fondly of his brother. Edward Kennedy described what must be done in order to preserve the ideals of American society. Edward Kennedy preached his brothers beliefs by saying that society is in control of the future and can mold it in whatever way they please. However, hard work and reason would be required in order to shape our destiny(doc. 4). The purpose for this was that Edward Kennedy wanted to try to preserve and keep alive his brothers ideals as they had potential to change America for the better whether it be socially, economically, or politically. Kennedy s death was a political turning point due to the fact that the country would end up being ran by someone else other than Kennedy. This meant that America s focuses shifted and it wa on route to a different future. A future that was quite different than what Kennedy would have imagined and might likely would have occurred because he was tipped to win the election. So in order to commemorate his brother and keep his ideals and values alive Edward Kennedy wanted to give a last gasp public tribute to his brother. Assassinations aside, there were still some other problems plaguing the country, one of those being drug use. In document 9 Arlene Sklar Wein puts her hallucinogenic ... • 6. Doctor Prescriptions ortunately for pharmaceutical companies, the United States government has not done nearly enough to regulate the companies. Pharmaceutical companies are able to spend millions of dollars on marketing, and not only on the cheesy direct to consumer ads we see ending with ask your doctor . The drugs that these companies make are not a standard item on the market; one needs permission to obtain drugs. Pharmaceutical companies understand this, so they spend a majority of their marketing funds on advertising to health care providers. In 2012, of the $27 million the industry spent on marketing, $24 million was for doctors (Pew Charitable Trusts). Aside from the skewed proportions in marketing fund division, 9 out of 10 pharmaceutical companies spent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As previously stated, the actions on the industry do sway a doctor s prescriptions. Many problems arise from this, namely the fact of expense and health. According to the FDA, generic brand drugs can be 80% more expensive than their name brand counterpart. The FDA also mandates that each must be bioequivalent. The doctors prescription could cost 80% more because of the influence of drug companies. Another factor of this marketing is known as going off label , or drugs being pushed for symptoms they weren t made for. This is part of the reason opioids have caused the United States heroin outbreak. Drug companies designed extreme pain killers, meant for terminal illnesses. That isn t a large market, so companies began pushing doctors to prescribe them for more and more cases. This is also on the rise with antidepressants and anxiety medication. Pharmaceutical companies over advertising their drug is dangerous and has resulted in lawsuits for almost every major drug company. Famously, the English drug company GSK paid $3 billion in a lawsuit for over prescribing their antidepressant, Paxil (New York Times). Pfizer, Johnson Johnson, Abbott, and Eli Lilly have all paid at least $1 billion for pushing off label prescriptions. However, many people support this entire practice because of the free market, and that companies have the right to advertise. While the free market is an integral part of Western culture, drugs are not just some product. Prescription drugs are tablets of complex chemistry backed by scientific research and approved of personal use by someone who has been to higher education for nearly twelve years. For example, sodas are an item on the free market. Coke and Pepsi have a right to advertise and try to create the better soda. They may convince someone to change brand loyalty, and there s little to no consequence. Drugs have life changing, or life ending, potential and complex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring Essay In The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring, Tom Beauchamp displays statistics of underrepresented races and genders in institutions. The inequality is due to the underlying persistent racism originating decades ago. It has been pervasively executed despite federal laws for equality. The expectation for a level playing field is not a reality, as statistically show with underrepresented African Americans (1. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0228). Beauchamp points out that at first sight, reverse discrimination appears immoral, because it crafts a prejudice for one race over another. However, he asserts that this inference is not applicable in the real world where ubiquitous prejudice still exists as indicated by statistics. Because we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is an overrepresentation of minorities in inferior schools, living in a crime infested city, and lacking family support (4. Rachels, CC2011, p 0203). If a minority with disadvantages reaches the same qualifications as an advantaged Caucasian, the minority is more deserving, indicative of the increased effort needed to put in. Fairness is a necessary condition in Rachels argument and minorities that are qualified for institutions are generalized to have put in more sweat. In some cases when this generalization is true, preferential treatment is considered fair. To establish a level playing field, Beauchamp suggests a policy of strong affirmative action. This includes quotas to be implemented and supported by government sanctions in a timely manner. Commitment to quotas will statistically show progress towards a society built on equality. Beauchamp believes that laws are ineffectively implemented and it is unclear to tell if institutions are intentionally discriminating unless numbers are available (5. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0230). Beauchamp s policy is an argument where the end result morally justifies the method to get there. However, Rachels suggests a moderate form of reverse discrimination where in a pool of equally qualified candidates, those challenged by unearned disadvantages get preference. This consequentialist argument suggests that young minorities do not have role models or mentors to emulate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Skopos theory is the most important part of the German Functionalist School. It was first advanced by Hans J.Vermeer and improved by Justa Holz−Manttari and Christiane Nord later. The word skopos comes from Greek, meaning purpose, motive and function . The point of this theory is the principle of purpose, defined by those German Functionalist translators as every activities of translation is decided by the purpose of translation, which in one word means method depends on purpose (Reiss and Vermeer 1984: 101; Nord 2001: 29). Generally speaking, the skopos theory believes that the result decides the method. So this theory

  • 10. The Gender Differences Of The United States Work Force Nona Mitoyan Professor Darin English 101 November 30, 2014 Sex Segregation in the U.S. Work Force This research paper focuses on the gender differences that take part in the U.S. workforce. It discusses the manner in which men and women are subtly segregated. We refuse to believe that discrimination as such continues to exist in the 21st century, yet it s the ugly truth. A gender gap is created due to differences in authority, pay, and promotion. Research shows us that economic variations exist and, through past cases we see that even though it has been twenty five years that Title VII has passed; segregation ceases to exist. Coined by Hymowitz and Schellhardt in the Wall Street Journal more than twenty years ago, the barriers women face in the workplace earned the term glass ceiling, continues to exist in U.S. labor. It is important to draw attention to this problem, because it stands as a prevalent issue as women strive for equal success as men, yet are held back. Have you ever stopped to consider why such drawbacks prevail in our society? Most wish to believe it s due to women playing dual roles as mothers and full time employees. Others believe that it s a mere coincidence, and that segregation no longer takes a role in our world. From a young age, gender segregation is inculcated beyond our notice. Boys wear blue and girls wear pink. Boys play with cars, guns, and video games, while girls play with dolls, make up, and have tea parties. This inception of gender ... • 11. Islam Gender Equality Islam has gradually claimed its title as the second largest religion in the world after Christianity (Severson, 2011). Muslims make up majority of the population in 49 countries (Desilver, 2017), but within those countries, approximately forty five of them are inhabited by half a billion Muslim women (Galloway, 2014). Throughout history, women have been disregarded, dehumanized, disenfranchised, and censored in society. Within Islam, it has been widely believed that Muslim women are secluded within their homes. To many, this seclusion highlights a religious culture that oppresses Muslim women. The controversy of gender inequality between Muslim men and women continues to derive from the historical inferior position of women (Galloway, 2014). Like other religions, there are several controversial aspects within the religion that contribute to growing issues of gender equality in society. In this case, Islam is perceived to be the backbone of gender inequality between Muslim men and women. It is important to put into context the social roles of women in the past, the inferior position of women, and the cultural and traditional aspects of Islam. Issues of gender equality within Islam are mainly derived from the interpretations of the Qur an and their religious practices. This study will examine the effects Islam has on the role of women and how it can promote religious empowerment towards Muslim women, and cultivate equality between the genders. This book goes through the lives of six of the survivors. Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura is watching her neighbors kids when the bomb detonated. The house was destroyed and they were all covered with debris. Father Kleinsorge was ill for many years after the event, he was in and out of the hospital. Miss Sasaki became a nun, helping people to die in peace. Dr. Fujii died of cancer. Mr. Tanimoto, the reverend, he traveled to America a few time trying to raise money to aid the hibakusha, he then retired. Can a Native State Exist Within a Canadian State Political Scientists, Thomas Flanagan and Roger Townshend explain the key to the big question: Can a Native State Exist Within a Canadian State? in the readings: The Case for Native Sovereignty and Native Sovereignty: Does Anyone Really Want an Aboriginal Archipelago? . The essay will outline and provide evidence to both sides, whether there could or could not exist a Native State in Canada. The document will argue that Natives are not organized enough to form their own government. Throughout the decades, Natives have agonized many savageries at the hands of the European settlers. The essay will take Flanagan s side with the belief that Natives should not be sovereign, using the textbooks Principles of Comparative Politics , and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would gradually abolish the Native rituals, religions, languages and traditions. Non Native children had been separated from Native schools to regular English schools. They were not allowed to practice their traditions, religions or language. They have been pushed away from their society and that caused physical, sexual and emotional assault. Hunting rights were limited and the environment of Natives and that has been affected by expansion events. One of the reasons why Aboriginals are in jeopardy is caused by Canadian societies, which are outside their reserves. When they want to participate and interact with non Natives, they are being suppressed. On the reserves, there is a lack of education and Natives are forced to move from place to place to find a job and live a stable life something that their reserve cannot provide. In the history of Canada, before the Europeans have arrived to the North America, the Aboriginals struggled with their individual form of government with a steady economy. Hence the fact, if the country were to allow them to form their own government, they would be able to create and keep their sovereignty. Within past, the Natives became familiar of using the easiest style of society, called a hunter gatherer society. Using this out of date form of civilization they were repetitively considering for new regimes and food. Accordingly, they were being forced to endlessly travel from momentary reserves. ... • 16. Argumentative Essay On Human Cloning Human cloning is threatening our society. Yes it has benefits but with these benefits there s a risk. First and foremost i disagree with cloning because, it hasn t developed yet and it can take a lot of tries before getting a human being to this earth. On the other hand, animals have been cloned since the beginning of this technology. They have a 70% chance of being born safely but that is not the same for humans the percentage to clone a human is 20% to 40% which is not even past birth. There has been a lot of failure on cloning but maybe one day it will be perfected. But over the years cloning has increased at a more stable rate. This new cloning technology can really wrong because, you re basically make a robot just in a human form factor. One good thing about cloning is that they can clone certain organ cells and damaged tissue. But to do something like that it s 50,000 dollars which only certain people can afford. That s why is not extremely common to hear someone say that they have cloned a tissue or an organ. However cloning is not cheap it s expensive but is it worth it? Favorably, it all depends on what you would like to clone and does it have a value to your day to day life. Supposing that you want to clone your dog or cat the estimated price is from 25,000 thousand dollars and it can reach higher pricing. People who have the money to do these sort of things must have been with that pet for a long time and that pet means a lot to them. However when you re cloning a pet yes they are going to have the same characteristics as the one who passed away. Although it won t feel the same as having your original pet. In my opinion people are doing this because it s an outlet for them to forget how their pet and pretend like it s still there with them. Part of these people don t even think on what they are doing because they are so inlove with their animals. They should really think about cloning pets and them make a decision. But if it means a lot to them then they should do it at there own risk. Know in an article named What happened to cloning? I had no systematic way of analyzing a script and being able to pull out the important aspects of the author s intentions. Many aspects of theatre history and dramatic interpretation had been left out of my education. After classes my appetite had been wetted, I purchased a number of books to continue my education over the winter break, one of the books was History of the Theatre 10th Edition by Oscar G. Brockett and Franklin J. Hildy. Even though an overview of some much history it has lead me to want to teach so much deeper lessons to my students. After the eye opening dramaturgy classes my mind has been washed with ideas on how to proceed, so much information had been given to us, I find it hard to concentrate on a single area. I truly look forward to teaching this year and these lessons. My first desire is to come at this with the outcome in mind, I had wanted to compete in the state UIL design competition since becoming a theatre teacher but wasn t sure where to begin. I had previously decided to turn my second year classes into the more theory related area of the field of study, but wasn t sure how to proceed. The first reason was that we needed to stick to our treaty s, The South East Asia treaty (SEATO) and ANZUS, the alliance of Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The second reason was the fear of invasion from countries in the north that would be quickly taken over by communism i.e. the domino theory. In part because drug related deaths tend to be viewed as unfavorable, with the parents often being blamed (Feigelman et al., 2011) (Guy, 2004) (da Silva, Noto, Formigoni, 2007). Students are no longer the children were once were in elementary school; they are beginning to mature into the adults they will need to become. Gifted learners at the middle school level face the same developmental and tasks tasks and challenges that their peers do. Yet, gifted learners also possess traits that are different from their peers, which often make them misunderstood or ignored. The need for teachers to identify these students and differentiate instruction in a way that addresses the needs of the gifted students in the classroom is becoming more crucial than ever. At times, being labeled as a gifted student can be a burden for the student with that label. The Association for Middle Level Educators found, research indicates that many gifted students deliberately fail tests or fail to do homework so that they don t appear to be too smart (Payne, 2013, p. 15). The need for acceptance at this point in students lives outdoes the will to achieve higher than their classmates. The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and explain some of his interests in fantasy, the irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development of his unique and personal cinematic style. Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments in the life of the renowned Italian filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is able to draw on a new archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of in depth analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired generations of not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that Fellini s use of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole another level of intimacy with the characters in the film, allowing for better characterization in his cinema. If your mind and body are prepared for any obstacle that is thrown your way there is nothing that can stop you. This hits me strongly because I believe that when you set your mind to a goal in order to better yourself you need to set them out of reach so you continue to grow stronger as an individual. Now onto one particular point of the Scout Law. A Scout is Helpful. I believe this is the absolute most important point from the Scout Law. This is because from the very first breath you take as an infant, you will look out for yourself with a self centered point of view. For it is human nature to preserve oneself. But a Scout has the challenge of putting others first despite his own needs. This is a great representation of the honor that is involved with being a Scout. In order to be helpful, a Scout must be ready, able and willing to help as described in the Scout Handbook. This means that a Scout needs to have the knowledge, skills and abilities in order to help someone which goes back to the previous described Scout Motto Be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Sophocles Antigone The Two Protagonists of Antigone In the classic model of dramatic structure, two characters move the action of the play from introduction to climax to resolution with their conflict. One of these characters is the protagonist; the other is the antagonist. The protagonist is generally regarded as the good guy, and the antagonist is the bad guy. In Sophocles play Antigone, the lines between protagonist and antagonist are blurred. In the Greek tradition, the title character is the protagonist, but in this play, the supposed antagonist Creon also displays characteristics of the protagonist. Webster s Dictionary defines protagonist as one who takes the leading part in a drama; hence, one who takes lead in some great scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the way his actions work and feed the conflict throughout also make Creon fit our definition of a protagonist. After Antigone s capture, the play centers on Creon. He boasts of his decision to the town leaders (the Chorus in this play), and he argues with Tiresias about his actions and leadership ability. Tiresias endless enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride is hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the blows of ruin? / That s dreadful too. (page 661). Not only does Creon possess too much pride, but he is also stubborn, not unlike Antigone. However, Creon s pride and stubbornness are related. He does not want to admit to himself or others that he could be wrong, so he makes the same mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or reversed his edict after his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting that he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors (Laius, Oedipus, Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role models for aspiring kings). Maybe he has been king long enough that he has developed a large ego and does not recognize his own mortality. Either way, his pride and stubbornness reflect in nearly every action that Creon makes in Antigone. Creon undergoes a full realization in the play, which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also a movie produced in 1990 also written by Tom Stoppard. The play and the movie follow these two minor characters adventures on and off the set of Shakespeare s Hamlet. Stoppard takes this unique perspective to bring up some interesting topics that were only a small part of Hamlet. The major theme is the idea of fate vs free will. Do these characters exhibit free will? Or are they simply taken along for the ride as higher powers use them for their own bidding? There are certain events that are going to happen no matter what. They are going to tell Hamlet that they were sent to spy on him. Hamlet is going to find the letter and switch it with one that he writes. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are going to die. These are events that are set in stone just like the events in a Newtonian universe are set in stone. From their perspective they are free beings making their own choices (or not making choices as it were). From the perspective of the audience they are fated to follow the plot of Hamlet. This still gives them an infinite array of possibilities outside of their scenes of the play, but as soon as someone in the play Hamlet begins their fated discussion they only have one possibility. To put it metaphorically, the play Hamlet is the Newtonian universe. The events in it are predetermined. On the other hand, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern represent an electron in the quantum sense. This allows for them to have the infinite array of possibilities when by themselves like the free beings that they are existing as a wave and a particle at the same time, but when viewed under a microscope by one of the characters in Hamlet they all of a sudden know who they must be and are fated to do as is written. • 41. Compare And Contrast Lady Macbeth And Elizabeth The Golden... Elizabeth the golden age an Oscar nominated award directed by Shekhar Kapur relates strongly to William Shakespeare s Macbeth in many ways, such as how characters from each text relate to one another, how similar themes are explored in both productions and how both revolve around the same period, the Elizabethan period. However, the overarching similarity between the two is that, in both Macbeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age, women hold power in their societies, whether it be through their own ambition or through the natural order. Women in both the film and the play can exert political power in male dominated societies, and to some extent in both theatre productions, powerful women are born into their social and political status, but despite this, women must still to some extent get rid of their feminist characteristics to fulfil this power, and thus the female characters from each text differs in the outcome they meet due to their actions. While women in both texts can indeed wield political power in patriarchal societies, the two texts differ in the outcome the female characters meet because of this power. Both Lady Macbeth and Queen Elizabeth I see their place as a vehicle for power and control in their societies. Lady Macbeth can reach her power through manipulation of Macbeth, questioning his masculinity, thus resulting in him feeling threatened, and forced to commit the acts he did, when you durst do it, then you were a man. According to Carter s (2005) account, on the night of June 28th, 1969, four plainclothes police officers, two uniformed officers, a detective of the NYPD, and a deputy inspector approached the doors of the Stonewall Inn and announced their arrival by shouting Police! We re taking the place! Following this, they began arresting patrons of the Inn. The scene that night was one of unrest; even before the riots, there was a general sense of unease and discontent. • 48. An Analysis Of The Bird Feeder Division At Mde Essay An analysis of the Bird Feeder Division at MDE was requested due to the unanticipated budget variances that have occurred. The following memo will provide a breakdown of the costs. Drafts of Costs It is important to first understand what the specific product and period costs are in order to accurately compute the associated costs. It is known that bird feeders are being produced. In this case the product costs are: cedar, plastic, and indirect materials, factory worker labor, depreciation, utilities, and maintenance and repairs. For period costs they are as follows: shipping, sales commissions, office rent, advertising, liability insurance, office depreciation, office salaries. Once this is known then the variable cost per unit and contribution margin can be found. The first calculation is to find the budgeted and actual sales price per unit which is done by a pre given computation and divided by the known budgeted and actual units. For budgeted the sales price per unit was $21.00, while the actual sales price per unit was $21.10. In order to find the variable cost per unit, the variable costs must be broken down and the total and actual budgets utilized (Horngren, Datar, Rajan, 2015, pp 68 73). The variable costs are cedar, plastic, and indirect materials, factory worker labor, shipping, and sales commissions. In this case shipping and sales commissions are pre given so the calculation must simply match. In order to find the sales price per unit, the pre given unit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consumer Culture Film Analysis Marina Souza ICS 392: Consumer Culture Hildebrand 10/29/2016 Assignment #2: Consumer Culture Film Analysis Wall E In short words, Wall E is the story of a robot who was designed to clean up an extremely polluted Planet Earth. This animated movie has a much larger meaning than expected it explains what can happen to our planet if we keep consuming the way we do. As indicated by the movie, big corporations and greedy consumers destroyed our ecosystem. A planet that was full of nature, water, fuels, animals and vegetation along with many other things simply vanished because of a society that consumed too much. It is a pretty scary thought to watch this movie and think about how we are on a process of doing the exact same thing. With a huge market of major retailers in the world consuming more than necessary is easier and easier each day. Consumer culture today is thriving but not necessarily in a good way. As consumer culture thrives, we have desires for products and services. Consumer spending is a major part of a country s/world s economy and that makes the economy strong but the aftermath is an unsustainable lifestyle. Although, Wall E didn t indicate exactly what caused consumers to destroy the planet and then flee for the sake of human survival, there are many guesses that can be made as to how it happened. One of the major points made in class during week eight was the fact that the world is becoming overpopulated. This major issue can possibly be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. How Prone Sleeping Is A Major Risk Factor For Sudden... Problem/Purpose The problem/purpose of this article is clearly and concisely stated, they discuss how prone sleeping is a major risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and how some of the associated factors may be signs of cerebral hypoxia. The researchers wants to know whether sleep positions, such as supine or prone actually has an effect on cerebral oxygenation during infancy. The researchers believe that this is an important area for research because lack of oxygenation could be a contributing factor to sudden infant death syndrome. Although there has been a decline of SIDS throughout the years it remains the leading cause of death among infants from one month to one year old. Literature Review The literature does include many current studies. They performed studies in 2008 that showed the arousal process from sleep is altered by sleep positions in healthy term infants, they also found that at two to three months of age the blood pressure falls while lying in a prone positon and in quiet sleep. The blood pressure device that was used was previously validated in a study with preterm infants in 2010. Most of the sources used are journals so they would be considered primary sources. We are aware that SIDS occurs during sleep, but a knowledge gap would be that we don t actually know what causes SIDS. The cause of death is basically a ruling out process by a body examiner. The Foundation Phase provides a diverse approach to learning for children which attend a setting funded by the Local Education Authority and are aged between three and seven years old. The learning and teaching of the pedagogy within the Foundation Phase focuses on the practitioner being willing to continuously progress with personal learning and develop the ability to reflect on personal experiences. (DCELLS. 2008). This is strengthened by the quote that a practitioner should be both self aware, willing and able to reflect and analyse from a range of perspectives (Pound,L. 2011). The Foundation Phase s progressive framework also allows for children to develop at an individual pace within the same class and consists of seven areas of learning. The areas of learning include personal and social development, well being and cultural diversity, language, literacy and communication skills and mathematical development. The framework also includes Welsh language development, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical development. Finally the Foundation Phase includes creative development.
