Islamic Extremism And The Islamic World Essay
Many people think terrorism and islamic militancy is a product of long lasting religious traditions in
the islamic world. However, when delving deeper into the origins of this radical violence related to
islam, and the middle east, it becomes apparent it is connected to many different global and political
factors that have led to it s significance on the world stage. The question arises, why is Islam so
directly connected to violence? This can be due to the lack of knowledge, it is essential to recognize
the need for a more accurate understanding of Islam. In order to make sense of the jihad, for instance,
it is helpful to know more about Islamic understandings of God, revelation, and the religious and
social requirements for the faithful. Events which may have had individuals questioning acts of
terrorism are events such as, 9/11, the attacks in France and the drone strikes. Although many people
today believe that that religious fanaticism causes terrorism, it isn t true. It may be true that religious
fanaticism creates conditions that are favorable for terrorism. But we know that religious nationalism
does not cause terrorism because there are many religious fanatics who do not choose terrorism or any
form of violence. Moreover there must also be other conditions that in combination provoke some
people to see terrorism as an effective way of creating change in their world. Terrorism is a complex
phenomenon; it is a specific kind of political and global violence committed

Punishment vs. Rehabilitation
Abstract
In this paper you will read about the steady debate between the punishment model and rehabilitation
model. You will be able to understand each model s side and derive your personal option of which
model would work best for our country.
Punishment vs. Rehabilitation
Deciding methods of fixing bad behavior has been a discussion since the beginning of time. Parents
have debated the subject to the point that professionals such as psychologist have been asked to be
involved in the discussion. Many parents would often tell their children war stories of how their
parents beat them with switches or belts. Today, however, this behavior is not acceptable and if social
workers are called to a family s residence and this behavior is ... Show more content on

The victim reportedly got in the defendants face and told him he better not ever try to come on to his
younger sister again, this was done in front of a crowd of people so the defendant was embarrasses
and reportedly said he would get revenge. The victim s body was found early on a Sunday morning
and the defendant turned himself in that Monday morning, after pleading guilty to his friend s death he
wrote a letter to the victims parents apologizing for his actions.
Effect on the Offender
Several studies have shown that the punishment model does not help the offender, they are placed in
the prison world with a determinant or inderminate sentence, pulled away from their family and
society as they have known it. The punishment model has shown to cause depression in the inmates
because they are isolated from their families and feel alone. (www.thebody.com)
On the other hand rehabilitation has found that inmates learn how to improve their lives by joining
drug treatments, getting their GED or a vocational trade because rehabilitation program goal is to get
the inmate back active in society and stay out of the criminal systems. Inmates who are involved in
this type of program are more likely to not return to prison and our able to be home with their families
and make a better life for themselves. ocial effect on society

Reading this article not only did it summarize FAMU s history and presidential history for 130 years,
but the major things going on in the world. From slavery, and opening of FAMU, which use to be
FAMC to Civil Rights and Black Lives Matter movements. I ve gained knowledge about my
university. Not only is it the third college, but it s the only public HBCU in Florida. FAMU use to be
FAMC (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College) due to poor funding. Something interesting that
I have read was that they had what was called the Great Fires of FAMU from 1923 to 1924 where
students angry from there former president Nathan B. Young was forced to departure office. Also after
the Birmingham Buss Boycott with Rosa Parks in 1955 Tallahassee had ... Show more content on

It shows me that I must succeed not only for me but for my family seeing as only me and my sister

One thing I noticed was how they quoted the Father of Black History , Dr. Carter G. Woodson if a race
has no history, if it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the
world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated (page33), but failed to mention any special
traditions that FAMU does like set Fridays and convocation. As I began to tackle this chapter I thought
it was just going to be short stories about each president and person whose donated. You can imagine
how surprised I was to see how they included other things going on in the world; while each president
was in charge. For example, the killing of Trayvon Martin from racial profiling and Michael Brown by
a police officer. Which are two things I was alive to experience and I am continuing to experience in
modern day. I have learned that being black is more than a color it is a culture and that I must try and

I have advantages in my life that help me to climb the ladder to success. They have shaped me into
who I am today. My advantages have blessed me abundantly. They have opened me to many
opportunities and have granted me with great academic achievement.
A big advantage of mine is my analytical intelligence. Analytical intelligence is the ability to solve and
perform academic tasks. My analytical intelligence has allowed me to perform so well academically. It
has allowed me to stand out and be recognized for many achievements. My analytical intelligence has

Disadvantages In my life, disadvantages have been a setback in my path to success. My advantages
have not always overruled them. The worst part of my disadvantages is that I have no control over
them. As I continue to live life, I struggle to overcome my disadvantages and to shine bright. My
biggest disadvantage would be my race. Being an African American in the United States has always
been seen as a negative. From the moment my ancestors were brought to the United States, they were
forced to adjust to European customs. They were slaves, forced to do labor and were considered
property of the white man. Although slavery was abolished, discrimination occurred. Many African
American activist fought and died for African Americans rights. There would only be nuance, but
today things are going downhill again.
Today, the stereotypes of African Americans are put upon me. I am often judged due to my race. I
have been treated intellectually inferior multiple times. People often assume me to be living in poverty
and fatherless. Sometimes, people are suspicious of me due to media and newscasts displaying African
Americans as criminals and dangerous. Due to my color, people even believe silly things like me
having a love for watermelon, grape soda and fried chicken.
Although, none of those things are true about me. As I mentioned, I have a strong sense of analytical
intelligence. I also have an active father in my life who goes

Obeying The Constitution
The most important trait of being an effective citizen is respecting others and obeying the Constitution
because it creates our three branches of government and is able for amending. Everyone as a citizen of
the US should obey the Constitution. Obeying the Constitution can avoid consequences. By not
obeying the Constitution and respecting people we are not obeying our unalienable rights. Our
unalienable rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and by disrespecting others you are not
letting other people have their pursuit of happiness as well. We are living in a civilized world where
people should cooperate with each other. Respecting people is a silent way to express your feeling
toward them. Respect is an unspoken way of communication,

Edward the Confessor as a Failure Essay
Edward the Confessor as a Failure During Edward s the Confessor s reign from 1042 1066, Edward
faced many problems. According to Stafford, some of the problems had no obvious solutions. Some
historians argue that Edward was a failure as he was unable to deal with the power of the Godwine,
and was even less successful with the power of Harold and thirdly, he was unable to solve the problem
of the succession issue according to Barlow as he shows that there were no contemporary sources that
show Edward dealing with the succession, in the latter part of his reign. Evidence shown from
historians that Edward had an inconsistent policy towards the succession issue. The Norman sources

This shows Edward as a successful as he defended his kingdom from Swein invading. There is also
evidence from Barlow that Edward always took command whenever possible of an invasion. Edward
provides training of his navy and he gave it leadership when danger threatened. According to Barlow,
Edward was able to deal with the foreign policy going worse. Edward was able to stop William from
forming an alliance with Flanders. The reason why he does this was because then that would mean
they would share maritime power, meaning that they could help Swein, Magnus or Harold Hardrada
from invading England. Edward forms an alliance with William, meaning that William will not be able
to form an alliance with Flanders. Therefore this shows that Edward was a success as he was
defending his kingdom from any external enemies. This view of Edward is agreed by other historians
such as the Vita, ASC and Ailred. Also according to Snorri Sturluson he says that Edward was
nicknamed Edward the Good, which describes him well…By the English he is regarded as a saint.
According to Barlow, Edward had no ambition to widen his empire his policy towards Scotland and
Wales, like his Scandinavian policy, was purely defensive. Schama supports this view as he mentions
that Edward was concerned with defending western borders of Mercia and Wessex against expansion
of the Welsh princes. Due to all these historians

The Day Of The Floor
As I step into the elevator, a chill runs down my spine. For starters, I hate elevators. Whenever I m in
one, I feel anxious and claustrophobic; I m afraid that it ll get stuck, or worse, fall several stories
down. I press the button of the floor I m going to, six. I cannot recall why I was heading to the sixth
floor, and what building I was in in general, but the remembrance of the floor number button six
lighting up separately three times is etched into my memory. For a second the elevator stops; it felt
like the whole world did. The lights flickered until they eventually gave out. As complete darkness

Research Assistant Application Essay
I am writing to outline my knowledge and experience, that I believe make me the ideal candidate for
the role of Research Assistant in the evaluation of the swim with humpback whale trial. I am truly
passionate about wildlife science and ensuring the health of the marine ecosystem. I find this research
project particularly exciting, as I have always had an interest in human wildlife interactions, and as a
keen traveller, I love to learn about effective ecotourism. When researching in Cancun, and recently
travelling in the Philippines, I have noticed wildlife tours, such as swimming with whale sharks are
lacking control of tourist numbers and amount of interaction, the type of issues that would need to be
addressed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife. I think my travel experience would be a useful
asset to the research team.

The Holocaust and Nazi Germany
Introduction (150 words)
As a result of the Holocaust, a clear link can be made between Nazi racial ideologies and Hitler s
foreign policy. Firstly, Nazi ideologies were a fundamental facet to the Holocaust, as it included the
philosophies of who constituted as a Jew, and the consequent treatment of those diagnosed as Jews.
Secondly, Hitler s foreign policies were another significant aspect of the holocaust, as it was a
fundamental part in the construction of Hitler s ultimate goal. Thirdly, the foreign policy and racial
ideologies are revealed to be inextricably linked through the invasion of Poland in 1939. Fourthly it is
evident that these foreign policies and racial ideologies contributed to Germany s involvement in
World War Two. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, as outlined in the Nazis racial ideologies, Hitler desire to reclaim ethnic Germans, or
Volksdeutsche back into the Reich who were living outside of Germany could not be achieved without
the extension of the Reich land, therefore making Poland a good target. Furthermore, Poland had over
3 million Jews, and of those 3 million, 2 million Jews came directly under Nazi rule, meaning
Germany could relocate those Jews, freeing up many houses for the relocated of the Volksdeutsche .
Thus, it is evident that the Nazis foreign policy had multiple incentives and were significant facets of
Hitler s ultimate goal.
Paragraph 3: How they are linked in relation to Poland invasion: Initally treatment of Jews (300
words)
In this context, it can be observed that the Nazis racial ideologies and foreign policies are intimately
link, revealed primarily in their invasion of Poland. The invasion of Poland took place in September
1939, and was occupied by Germany until early 1945. As revealed in the Nazi foreign policy, Poland
had 3 million Jews, and one of the chief leaders who executed the treatment of Polish Jews after the
invasion was Heydrich . Heydrich was ordered by Hitler to ensure the final return into the Reich of
ethnic and racial Germans abroad, including the creation of settlement areas for them . As a result of
Heydrich s role, he created the Heydrich

The Study Of Evolution And Evolution
THE STUDY OF EVOLUTION
The study of Evolution has been a hot topic of controversy over the last two centuries. The definition
of evolutionary biology itself generally refers to an area of biological study mixed with the study of
the evolutionary processes that are produced by the diversity of life on Earth. This tour of centuries
ago, the one you are about to take will help you gain a better understanding of not only those who
have influenced the theories of evolution, but also a few pieces of evidence of evolution that help
support the theory itself.

Together with Alfred Russel Wallace, they introduced a scientific theory that branched patterns of
evolution, resulting in a process called natural selection.
He developed his ideas by observing many animals on the Galapagos Islands. He noticed that certain
species in one geographical area was different from the same species in another field. At Galapagos
Island, Charles discovered evidence of animal fossils that could help him prove the theory of natural
selection. Many animals that Charles examined were; the land iguana, the marine iguana, saddle back
Tortoise, the Flightless Cormorant and the cormorant.
Scenic locations on Galapagos Island
In addition, here are a few scenic locations located on the Galapagos Islands. One scenic area of
Galapagos Island is Bartolome and Pinnacle Rock.
One of the smaller islands in the Galápagos Archipelago is Bartolomé Island, which has its unique

Vyacheslav Borts
The sculptress Louise Nevelson was a towering figure of American modernism. Born in 1899, she
came to prominence in the late 50s, gaining renown for monochromatic structures built out of
discarded wood. Critic Arthur C. Danto wrote, There could be no better word for how Nevelson
composed her work than bricolage a French term that means making do with what is at hand. (Danto
2007) Her pieces evolved and expanded in size across the latter 20th century, moving from smaller

The poignancy of this girl s untimely death and the instant of life the Grave Stele captures are both
magnified by the weight and constancy of the marble. By contrast, Nevelson achieves something like
suppleness in Sky Cathedral by her use of multiple layers and multiple new spaces that emerge from
different vantage points. From the Attic Greek to the Augustan age brings one to the Imperial
Procession, located on the North frieze of the Ara Pacis Augustae (Fig. 4). The first two sculptures put
into conversation with Sky Cathedral were mortuary, but the Imperial Procession is celebratory. The
first two are both smaller than four feet, but the Procession is life sized, so its visual force is thus
magnified. Finally, the individuals therein are not idealized types, in contrast to earlier Greek modes
of statuary they naturalistic depictions of many actual people in the line of the Caesars. The Ara Pacis
took four years to build, due to its desired scale and quality, and that scale points to a salient evolution
from the Greeks to the Romans. Riegl claimed this vector went from what he call[ed] the haptic
objectivism of the Greeks the delineation of the clarity of the object through an appeal to and a
stimulation of the tactile associations of the viewer to the optical objectivism of Roman art, in which

movement started a movement for equal rights for women that has continued to propel equal

In America the Women s Liberation movement has been embraced by how women are valued for
more than baring children, but we often do not consider the ramifications the transition has had on our
society. Feminist Marlene Dixon has said that although women have done wonderful work in ending
oppression for themselves, oppression still exist, only in psychological sense of the word. Dixon
writes, Individualized struggles between men and women around the oppressive attitudes and
objective sexual and social privileges is the consequence of the psychological oppression that is taking
place in the minds of women, and men, who are being hyper sexualized in the need for attention.
Taking into consideration the amount of emphasis is placed on a woman s sex appeal Dixons ideas
cannot be disregarded. With women increasing their assets in the work force and decreasing a mans
need in relationships, women are marketing their bodies to prove that they are still can be desirable
and relying on the opposite sex. By allowing ourselves to be used as sexual properties in advertising it
is giving men and other women the notion that women are only desirable if they can be physically
attracted to the masses. As feminist, and women these sexual barriers need to be brought down to

Negative Effects On Public Media
Today the data linking violence in the television to violence in society are superior to those linking
cancer and tobacco (Grossman 31). The digital revolution of television symbolizes that the
technological advances have taken the lead of modern society. The relation between children s violent
television viewing and their development is assignable in various ways. Research studies raised some
significant questions about this field and suggest the possible negative consequences that televised
violence could bring to the youth. As the most common and popular public media, television deserved
society s critical attention on its detrimental effects among children. People who is responsible for
major consequences should be attacked by actions such as allowing or profiting inappropriate images
on children s programs, which can cause both physical and psychological problems to the youth
viewers and even lead to criminal behaviors. Violent images on children s television programs should
be discern as the complex interplay that lead to major consequences in children s future development.
Nowadays, under the exposure of television, aggressive images are often shown and even suggested in
children s shows or cartoons. Aggressive actions involving animated characters are easy to caught
youngsters attention. Professor Chris Boyatzis , a member of the Cal State Fullerton Child

Why Do People Use Drones
War has been a part of life for centuries, from the days of sword and shield to advanced rifles with
high fire rates. Conflict is a part of human life and it is inevitable no matter the preparation. Mankind
has always sought to improve their means of fighting in hopes to preserve peace with the newest
weapon unveiled being the drone. When war outbreaks, drones are used to great extent, they are
efficient and coordinated, calculated and powerful, however, drones are costly and at times cause
innocents to die. The usage of drones, however, is heavily debated.

In a span of hours, a Reaper can wipe out a terrorist alcove, and as described by Jeff Davis, a pentagon

for land based forces to enter the conflict and endanger themselves. The drones also save on the
manpower and strategic planning needed to coordinate a ground assault, getting the job done quickly.
Drones also add a new dimension of tactics to battles, involving much safer air vehicles to perform
bombing runs. On the other hand, drones aren t free, and are far from it.
Infantry in the modern day have a cost of roughly $17,500 per soldier (WSJ 5), a drone is much more
expensive than a single soldier. According to Joakim on Aeroweb, a Gray Eagle is roughly $4.45
billion to purchase, and a Reaper has an average cost of $12.23 billion (Joakim 1). Hundreds of
soldiers can be outfitted and sent out compared to a single aerial drone. Humans are also more capable
of handling themselves in an armed conflict, able to think on their feet and plan accordingly, while a

become their property. The owner of this property then has rights to the property. These rights protect
the products of human intelligence and creativity. These rights have been categorized into three

Digital And Digital Immigrants By Marc Presky
The article Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants by Marc Presky, appears in the book On the Horizon.
The article asserts that due to the the anacrusis of the digital age, this generation has changed
dramatically, thus, it is no longer possible to reach them through obsolete teaching methods, as it
comes close to teaching them in a foreign language. In order to solve this issue, Presky suggests that
we need to update our methodology in order to fit today s needs better.
In the beginning of the article, Prensky implies that student have changed dramatically, thus, are no

Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 2001), as he emphasises it. To furthermore clarify this
term, he names many examples such as bringing people physically into your office to see an
interesting web site (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 2001) instead of
sending them an email (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 2001).
Prensky complicates this matter when he embeds it into school routine. He endorses that to digital
natives it feels like they are being taught by foreigners who have no wrap their head around English
language yet.
However, this is a dilemma that only starts, rather than ends, at the lack of communication. By
introducing another example, he disputes that there is also a quarrel in the way of thinking in general.
Digital natives, for example, believe that studying should be fun and could easily be done, while, for
example, watching TV. This Digital Immigrants, however, deny up to this day; simply because they
were not capable of doing all those things, while they were young.
He then reminds us that, in spite of prevailing belief, one cannot simply presume that students
function the same way their teachers did when they were in school. As a result of this, he enters the
debate whether students should go back to their old ways or if teachers should have to learn this new
language (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital

Analysis Of Michael Ondaatje s The Family
Michael Ondaatje s fictionalized memoir Running in the Family uses the motif of mapping to
represent the narrator s reconstruction of his family history. The memoir develops a parallel between
the mapmaking of European explorers who colonized Ceylon and Ondaatje s attempt to make sense of
his family s chaotic and disordered past, which is difficult to trace due to the way it has become
mythologized by gossip and rumours. In Running in the Family, the depiction of mapping as an
uncertain art suggests that the search for objective truth is rendered impossible by the subjective
perceptions of those who interpret information with their own unique point of view. These biased
understandings demonstrate the flaw of accepting subjective statements marketed as facts to be true.
When Ondaatje first references Ceylon in cartographical terms, the glances and theories used to
describe the first impressions of explorers establishes a sense of uncertainty in their interpretations
(45). The author describes these images as false maps , and observes that the shapes differ so much
they seem to be translations (45). The inaccuracy implied by the word false and the reconstruction
connoted by translations suggests that the explorers who created the maps conceived them in bits and
pieces, never quite grasping a clear and unbiased image of Ceylon due to their own subjective point of
view. Even the title of the chapter itself, Tabula Asiae (45), serves to reinforce the idea that

The Wretched Of The Earth Quotes
In The Wretched of the Earth, Frantz Fanon, exposed how social, economic and political situation, the
destruction of people s physical and psychological influence the long term colonization according to
African society. Thus, he pointed out that even thou people get independence during the
decolonization, they still have to face the problem of economics and social problems. Independence
does not mean the true liberation and freedom after colony gains independence. Fanon spent a lot of
time talking about violence in this book. The agent does not alleviate oppression or mask domination.
He displays and demonstrates them with the clear conscience of the law enforcer, and brings violence
into the homes and minds of the colonized subject (4). In this quote, Fanon said that when the
colonized come to a colony, colonizers will enforce their rule by using violence to compel people to
follow. As long as they see how the colonizer use violence to deal with them, they learn how to defend
themselves by using violence too. At the individual level, violence is a cleansing force. It rids the
colonized of their inferiority complex, of their passive and despairing attitude (51). In this quote,
Fanon said that violence not only can be an action, it also can be a cleansing force which can rids any

Women s Roles In The Tang Dynasty
Women s role in Ancient Chinese civilisation was always vital to society due to their role in the family
and during the Tang and Song dynasty significant changes occurred, changing Chinese women s lives

of the major differences of the status of women from dynasty to dynasty. The Tang Song dynasties
ruled from 618AD to 1279 AD and many distinct differences between these two dynasties can be
observed. Women s role in these dynasties primarily included domestic duties, with the introduction of
new roles to the female gender. Their role was very important to society as the woman of the family

It is known for being flourished with women rights. The Song dynasty s society definitely had its
differences to Tang, For instance, the prime minister of the Song dynasty might take a bath in the same
public bath house as everyone else, which would be unthinkable in the Tang Dynasty , (Wang, 2003).
This is quoted from a secondary source from a professor studying Chinese history and shows how
different the societies were between the two. Men were still greatly superior to women in this period.
In contrast with the Tang dynasty, women in this period despite it following the Tang dynasty, were
not allowed into positions of great importance like government officials or be involved in politics and
were just expected to stay at home and take care of the household. But women of this period, unlike
those of Tang, were had equal societal and legal rights that enabled them to control their own dowry,
able to establish small businesses and were equal to men when it came to terms of inheritance, (Yuan,
1984). Essentially, Tang dynasty women were bolder and more active in the society where the women
of the Song dynasty were more academically inclined and well reserved and respectful. Although the
society themselves were different in certain aspects, women s role between the two were similar. Both
of these dynasties were divided by gender,

Causes And Disadvantages Of Eutrophication
Eutrophication is the process by which an aquatic environment acquires a higher concentration of two
important nutrients: phosphates and nitrates in a certain environment. This promotes excessive growth
of algae on the surface of the water. Living things need some specific nutrients to survive. Usually
nature provides just the specific amount of nutrients, but too many nutrients can cause dangerous
problems to the environment. This is presented in aquatic systems.
However the problems can also increase when aquatic environments such as lakes or rivers have an
overabundance of nutrients, when this happens eutrophication appears. A Eutrophic lake occurs when
there is a presence of too many nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus that is usually as a result of
drainage from surrounding land. When a lake or other aquatic system becomes eutrophic, then we can

A 2008 study counted 405 dead zones across the world. Hypoxia occur when there is low oxygen in a
specific area, so this is a natural phenomenon in coastal areas around the world. Aquatic dead zones

eutrophication.Major nutrients comes from human activity such as fertilisers in agriculture and
burning fossil fuels , these nutrients lead to rapid increase on phytoplankton resulting in algae bloom .
These organic matter produced sinks to the bottom of the ocean were bacteria break it down, when
bacteria break down this organic matter they consumed oxygen liberating carbon dioxide. So this

Personal Narrative-It s Good
It s Good! Those two words caused the dimples on my cheek to be more visible than ever, as I refused
not to show my joyful emotions. It was a cold winter day, but it didn t stop parents and fans from
coming to watch Our Lady of the Lake take on Our Lady of Sorrows at home. I personally had a
strong disliking for OLL (Our Lady of the Lake) for years I had to deal with never being able to beat

whistle and Lake players began moving all over, their big man set a hard screen on me, allowing for

California Gold Rush Of 1849
California would not be the same as we see it today if it was not for the California Gold Rush of 1849.
Around one hundred fifty thousand migrated to this territory over the course of three years, being one
of the world s largest migrations in history. The wealth gained by the Forty Niner s in this era provided
the opportunity for the creation of the economic powerhouse we see California as today. The
California Gold Rush is a very complex topic to understand. There is a common misconception of it
simply being a time of profit or loss by miners digging for gold. When instead, the Gold Rush was a
time when Gold Fever was a common sickness of people around the world, people of all ages and
color striving to meet their dreams of success and fortune. This migration of miners is best understood
when California s history before the Gold Rush, the chaos over land ownership and lack of authority,
and its short term and long term impacts are extensively analyzed (4). Before the start of the Gold
Rush in 1849, California was a Mexican territory. It is Key to note (for later understanding of the
issues concerning land ownership and makeshift law within the gold mining districts) that the Gold
Rush was not a factor of concern for neither country within the Mexican War. The Mexican War was
sparked by the increasingly hostile territorial disputes between Mexico and the, at the time, Republic
of Texas. These territorial disputes of regions within California led to the United States

Raid At Dieppe Essay
Why was the raid at Dieppe such a failure? Are failures simply undesirable or a beneficial for future
experiences? On August 19, 1942, the Raid at Dieppe is considered a failure due to the significant
casualties and the incompletion of the planned objectives. The Raid at Dieppe is said to have failed
due to multiple reasons. One of the primary factors to cause the failure of the operation is the absence
of effective communication, both before and during the raid. Furthermore, the operation incorporated
various fatal strategic errors. As well, the backup for the landing troops was limited during the raid. In
summary, the Raid at Dieppe was a failure due to errors in communication, strategy, and backup. One

Initially, the element of surprise was lost. As the attacking troops approached the eastern beach sector,
the landing craft unexpectedly encountered a German Convoy. The sea fight noises alerted German
coastal defences. (The Dieppe Raid, Veterans Affairs Canada). The German troops know that Dieppe
was being attacked, and embraced themselves for action. Without attacking at surprise, the allied
troops encountered prepared German fire upon landing and was unable to advance. Moreover, the
location chosen for the raid was lossmaking. Dieppe had a beach which was extremely narrow, and
was commanded by lofty cliffs, where German Soldiers were strategically placed (The Dieppe Raid,
Veterans Affairs Canada). Such terrain not only made it difficult for soldiers to advance, but it also
created difficulty to land and operate tanks to back up the infantry. Additionally, the element of
darkness was lost. Before departing for Dieppe, The landing craft carrying the troops were meant to be
lined up behind gun boats. The landing craft for the Royal Canadian Regiment of Canada lined up
behind the wrong gun boat, which would have taken them to the wrong beach. The problem took
twenty minutes to solve (Dieppe 1942, History Learning Site). When the troops finally landed on the
beach, it was already dawn, and the German soldiers were able to spot the soldiers and fire with
accuracy. Strategic mistakes in the Dieppe Raid truly played a major part in the failure of the

Jewish Folk Dance As A Means Of Creating A New Israeli...
Jewish national identity was colonized when Jewish people were forced out of ancient Israel and
dispersed to various different nations. Anti Semitism was one of the principle means for this
colonization because it made it dangerous for Jewish people to express their own national identity in
the European nations they dispersed to. As a result, certain traditions, like Jewish folk dance, which
were not codified, were lost. Jewish folk dance also disappeared because folk traditions are strongly
connected to the land in which they originated and the majority of Jews left Israel. Furthermore,
because of the third commandant of the Torah, Jews were not allowed to depict images of their dance.
Consequently, their traditional dance was lost forever. However, when the Jews returned to Israel in
the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they found it important to recreate traditions like folk dance to
reassert their fractured nationhood after so many years of diaspora. Thus, Israeli folk dance was a
means of creating a new Israeli culture.
Israeli folk dance was created by using elements from other dance cultures with themes and music of
modern Israel. In this paper, I will argue that while anti Semitism resulted in the colonization of
Jewish national identity, women re created Israeli folk dance as a means to establish a new Jewish
identity, as well as an identity for themselves. By focusing on Romania and Yemen, we will identify
the vestiges of colonialism in Israeli folk dance, and

With the events that occurred in Juliette s life you would not of expected her to do something that is

off beat second daughter Crazy Daisy was an unlikely founding figure for the Scouts. She never had
children of her own. Her marriage to a wealthy Englishman failed in an era when divorce was still a
serious stigma. Also, she suffered for most of her adult life from a hearing disability first brought on
by a medical mistake (Kehe). Low has had a bunch of horrible events in her life that should of
discouraged her from doing anything but, instead she decided to go and do something more with her
life and create girl scouts. She is encouraging girls that you don t have to let the misfortunes in life be
a prevention from doing something great and to not let them be a shackle from desired dreams. Girls
now have proof that they can truly do what they choose. Crazy Daisy has given girls the grant of
confidence and girls now know not to let anything hold them back. The great gift of Girl Scouts to

Purple Hibiscus Analysis
Religious Conflict and Influence:
The Root of the Problem in Purple Hibiscus Purple Hibiscus (2003) by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie,
is a novel with a strong impact and effective demonstration of potential issues among different
communities with different beliefs. It takes place 20th century Nigeria in times where government
corruption is on the rise which results in major tension in society. The main character, Kambili, from
whom which the point of view derives from, is a shy and obedient girl. Papa, Kambili s father, is a
very powerful, strict, and religious man with questionable tendencies relating to the way he treats his
family. Mama, Kambili s mother, Jaja, Kambili s brother, Papa Nnukwu, Papa s father, Aunty Ifeoma,
Papa s sister, and Kambili have all been negatively affected by Papa s actions which are all dictated by
religion. Religion in Purple Hibiscus is the root of the conflict and without it, there wouldn t be any
story to be told. Adichie brilliantly demonstrates this theme of negative religious influence by deeply
highlighting the emotions of each character in every event that takes place which allows the reader to
gain better insight into the story. Adichie s way of conveying the emotions of the characters is
especially prominent when emotional pain is involved. This detailed emotional insight is shown when

Claude McKay amp; Dialectical Analysis
In Claude McKay s, Old England and Quashie to Buccra McKay uses dialect as a way to give poems
multiple meanings. What may be seen as a simplistic or naïve poem about Jamaican life may actually
be full of double meanings that only a select audience would be able to identify. In his poem s, McKay
ultimately gives Negros who work under white colonists the underlying message of black resistance
by revolution.
Perhaps what makes this interpretation so convincing is the background of the author. McKay was

In actuality, the poem can be seen by Negros as a way to criticize the white plantation owner and in
fact plant the seeds of rebellion.
Indeed, the title of the work itself leads credence to it being veiled in double meaning. While a white,
European in the high rungs of the social ladder may read the poem as a simple address of worker to
plantation owner. However, a Negro experiencing the strife of Quashie, the black peasant worker who
produces sweet potatoes in the poem, may relate to the unfairness of they experience from the Buccra,
which is the white man being addressed in the poem. Indeed, McKay points out in the poem, You taste
the potato, and you say it s sweet, but you don t know how hard we work for it (McKay 2). Buccra
even attempts to haggle for a lower price, further showing he doesn t understand the work that goes
into farming the sweet potatoes, You want a basketful fe quattiewut (McKay 3). Not only does this
demonstrate the Buccra s insensitivity to the work that goes into the harvest, but it shows he s greedy
and milking the natives for every last sixpence.

Carry A. Nation And The Progressive Era
From the 1890s to the 1920s, many social and economic reform movements were taking place within
American society, and this time period became known as the Progressive Era. People advocated for
women s suffrage, temperance, rights for African Americans, better working conditions in factories,
and much more. One prominent figure from this time period is Carry A. Nation, a temperance activist.
Nation would pray, sing hymns, throw bricks, and attack bars with hatchets. Her action resulted in her
being jailed, written about, and led to her writing her own magazine. Carry A. Nation s tactics of
praying, singing hymns, and violent attacks were effective in the banning of alcohol, with the 18th

did not always have a tendency for violence and a strong aversion from alcohol. However, Nation s
first husband, Charles Gloyd, had a severe drinking problem. Nation became pregnant, and it became
evident to her that Gloyd would not be able to support her and her child. Gloyd soon died because of
his drinking issue. This later led to Nation s strong dislike from alcohol because her husband, whom
she loved, died because of alcohol. Nation remarried David Nation, a preacher and lawyer, and during
this marriage, Nation became very religious. Also, Nation would try to help inmates in prison. This

Factors That Influence Rainfall in the United States
Factors that Influence Rainfall in the United States
A type of precipitation is rainfall and it develops when water vapor condenses into droplets in the
atmosphere thus becoming too heavy to stay suspended in the air so gravity causes them to fall. The
pattern or occurrence of rainfall in the United States or basically anywhere in the world depends on
several factors such as ground elevation, wind directions, location within a continental mass, areas of
low pressure, cool fronts, jet streams and even mountain ranges. For instance mountains have an
influence on wind and wind is an important feature in rainfall, The windward sides of mountainous

When the pressure is high it means that the air s pressure is higher than the pressure of the surrounding
air in the area. A low is where it is lower. This means that where the air is slowly descending the
pressure is high and vice versa. So, as air descends, it warms, which inhibits the formation of clouds.
This means that the air that descends in high pressure area has to get to high altitudes in some way
which is why air actually rises in low pressure areas. Winds tend to blow into low pressure areas
because are moves from higher pressure areas into lower pressure areas. When the wind moves into a
low area the air moves up and eventually cools and rainfall comes about. Also the low pressure that
causes the air to rise has to do with the Criolis Effect, which is the force caused by the Earth s spin
that redirects moving air to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern
Hemisphere. According to meteorologist Tony Pann, who works with Coriolis Effect stated, With the
Coriolis effect, air circulates in patterns that depend on latitude. At the mid latitudes of the USA, most
weather systems move from west to east. However, systems tend to move from east to west near the
poles and in the tropic (Pann). The upslope flow is also related low pressure areas which is basically
the result of air rising and cooling while being forced to ascend to higher terrain.

An analysis of the form of ideology of Evil Dead 2
Evil Dead 2 is a film directed by Sam Raimi who has set out to make a film of the comicall horror
genre. The story is obviously the sequel to Evil Dead and follows the exploits of the same character ?
Ash? as he takes a trip with his new girlfriend ?Linda?. Raimi has a history for making these types of
films with obvious style similarities being seen between ?Evil Dead? and its sequel. ?Evil Dead? was
the first feature length film Raimi made after quitting university to proceed with its making. Like ?

An instant example of his foolishness is seen when he travels back to the same cabin that tormented
him so much in the first film ?Evil Dead?. So you instantly start to question his sanity. The fact that
Ash is a man playing the horror film role of the ?last girl? also helps to make the film more amusing,
as you generally find that the male characters in these films will be acting strong throughout. Ash
however is seen to start to break down through the insanity of his surroundings at the start. He stares
into a mirror and his reflection comes out and strangles him. This real shows the torture he is putting
himself through, as when he looks again after blinking he realises he is strangling himself.
This torture which seems to be self inflicted really shows the attitude of the whole film. Raimi made ?
Evil Dead 2? more amusing by blatantly doing everything that the viewer knows you shouldn?t do in a
horror film. It isn?t until about half way through the film that he starts to act stronger, this also fits in
with the roles of a ?last girl?, like Nancy in ?Nightmare on elm street?. Being a man though it is easier
to laugh at the torment of Ash and his pain is more light hearted than if a female had of played the
role.

Then almost straight after their arrival Ash discovers a tape player, which

Adam Smith
Adam Smith was a Scottish political economist and moral philosopher, who studied moral philosophy
at Oxford University and University of Glasgow. Smith is considered by many to be the founding
father of economics and the first free market capitalist. In fact, in many ways his philosophies and
theories have helped shape our country and our economy into what it is today. Smith introduced us to
the invisible hand theory which referred to the free markets. The invisible hand theory stated that
ultimately when people were left able to pursue their best interests, meaning that they were able to
pursue work that made them happy and that enabled them to command the highest wage for
themselves or when entrepreneurs were able to provide good ... Show more content on

Adam Smith s ideas are very much relevant today. However, with recent events in today s economy, it
s obvious that some of the practices that worked previously need some serious revision to work in
today s world. There was a recent market crisis in early 2008, mainly because of the way that the
markets were being run and the lack of transparency. Smith s theories held that there is no need for
government involvement, but clearly lack of government involvement in this case was simply not an
option and would have lead to an even more chaotic situation. Smith s theories were a great
foundation and a lot of the ways in which we live today are based on these theories. It s evident in our
ever growing society, in the many professions that people work in and the number of new businesses
being created.
With that said, even though Smith s theories are still relevant, with the changing times and society, the
way the markets are handled will need to be improved. This will probably mean more government
involvement at many levels to ensure and promote transparency. As the world continues to change and
as new challenges are faced, there will definitely be the need for a new way of thinking to be applied
to smith s ideas
In conclusion, Smith s ideas were and still are very instrumental to our society and the way that the
free markets are run. Since Adam Smith s ideas and theories have outlasted those of any other
economist,

down somewhat when my father started to question her about Osaka and her university. She answered
him with short, formal replies. She in turn asked me a few questions, but she seemed inhibited by the
fear that the questions might lead to awkward topics. After a while, the conversation had become even
sparser than prior to Kikuko s arrival. Then my father stood up, saying: I must attend to the supper.
Please excuse me for being burdened by such matters. Kikuko will look after you.
My sister relaxed quite visibly once he had left the room. Within a few minutes, she was chatting
freely about her friends in Osaka and about her classes at university. Then quite suddenly she decided
we should walk in the garden and went striding out onto the veranda. We put on some straw sandals
that had been

Eve Harrington Compare And Contrast
I can say with certainty that the film adaptation did a much better job at presenting the tale of Eve
Harrington than the original short story did, primarily because the movie allowed me to feel for the
characters. In the short story, I didn t get to see what happened, but rather Margola telling what
happened. Unlike the film, there are no flashbacks to the story itself, so I wasn t really able to actually
visualize it. Most of the short story is just Margola talking to Karen inside the car, so in a sense, it s
neither telling nor showing. It s showing telling, and that isn t very entertaining to see or imagine.
Additionally, because the events surrounding Eve had already happened, I was also unable to witness
how they affected Margola. The

A Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition
SCADA/ Stuxnet Worm A Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system consists of
both hardware and software that collects critical information to keep a facility operating (Johnson
Merkow, 2011, p. 227). SCADA system vulnerabilities include the lack of monitoring, slow updates,
lack of knowledge about devices, not understanding traffic, and authentication holes (Adams, 2015).
When an organization doesn t monitor the network, it makes it impossible to notice suspicious
activity. System updates are a very important part of protecting against vulnerabilities, even though it
may be seen as an inconvenience. The lack of knowledge about the devices is somewhat due to the
fact that the SCADA systems change over time. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This put other organizations that used equipment from the same SCADA system supplier in jeopardy.
It also raised awareness of possible collateral damage (Chung, 2013). The Stuxnet worm infected a
significant amount of computers. Additionally, it changed part of the security infrastructure of the
United States. Stuxnet didn t prove that cyber attacks are low risk operations. Rather, it suggests that
the effects, and thus the risks, of cyber attacks are unpredictable (Manzo, 2013) . There are vulnerable
computer networks and systems that support U.S. economic activities, military capabilities, and
societal services such as critical infrastructure (Manzo, 2013). U.S. officials came to the conclusion
that the effects and risks of the Stuxnet operation were proportionate to the payoffs, other countries
might reach similar conclusions about cyber attacks against the United States (Manzo, 2013).
Improving cyber defenses, attribution capabilities, and developing credible retaliatory options will
play an important role in deterring and mitigating direct cyber attacks, but cascading viruses launched
at other countries could eventually penetrate and damage U.S. networks (Manzo, 2013) . ICS CERT
released ICSA 10 201 01 Malware Targeting Siemens Control Software (including Updates B C) and

The Golden Girls Analysis
Kids in elementary school are often given assignments of self exploration and discovery. For example,
teachers give students questionnaires at the beginning of the school year asking for their favorite color,
book, song, movie, television show, etc. I find these questionnaires difficult, as my favorite book or
song is consistently changing; however, one category remains the same. My favorite television show,
since first watching in 2001, is The Golden Girls. It may seem unexpected that a six year old finds a
show about four older women living in Miami, Florida during the mid 1980s interesting, but I did. I
love each character: Blanche, man crazed woman with good intentions, Rose, a lovable and ditzy
character, Dorothy, a sarcastic intellectual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the episode, Scared Straight, Sophia, Dorothy s mother, believes that she is preparing to pass
away. In the beginning of the episode, Sophia is laying on the couch sighing in hopes that Dorothy
asks her what is wrong. Eventually, Dorothy asks and Sophia responds, I ve got three days to live (The
Golden Girls). This prompts Dorothy to respond: Fine Ma, I ll scratch ben gay off the grocery list (The
Golden Girls). This interaction highlights the more aware people become of their own morality as they
age. During youth, many people do not discuss the possibility of death; however, as we become older
life becomes more finite and fleeting. This issue reinforces The Golden Girls ability to take serious
and taboo topics such as death and turn it into a comedic exchange between mother and daughter
Furthermore, The Golden Girls also analyze escaping facilities of the elderly and display it in a
comedic fashion. Before Sophia states she is dying, she dreams that her dead husband comes to her,
wearing his fedora, stating that she can come now and there is room. However, this turns out to be a
misunderstanding when Sophia s friend Mildred comes to the door. Sophia asks, Mildred, what are
you doing here? to which Mildred responds: When do I always where my lucky bowling hate? (The
Golden Girls). Mildred s

  • 18. Analysis Of Michael Ondaatje s The Family Michael Ondaatje s fictionalized memoir Running in the Family uses the motif of mapping to represent the narrator s reconstruction of his family history. The memoir develops a parallel between the mapmaking of European explorers who colonized Ceylon and Ondaatje s attempt to make sense of his family s chaotic and disordered past, which is difficult to trace due to the way it has become mythologized by gossip and rumours. In Running in the Family, the depiction of mapping as an uncertain art suggests that the search for objective truth is rendered impossible by the subjective perceptions of those who interpret information with their own unique point of view. These biased understandings demonstrate the flaw of accepting subjective statements marketed as facts to be true. When Ondaatje first references Ceylon in cartographical terms, the glances and theories used to describe the first impressions of explorers establishes a sense of uncertainty in their interpretations (45). The author describes these images as false maps , and observes that the shapes differ so much they seem to be translations (45). The inaccuracy implied by the word false and the reconstruction connoted by translations suggests that the explorers who created the maps conceived them in bits and pieces, never quite grasping a clear and unbiased image of Ceylon due to their own subjective point of view. These organic matter produced sinks to the bottom of the ocean were bacteria break it down, when bacteria break down this organic matter they consumed oxygen liberating carbon dioxide. So this process makes the water hypoxic( low quantities of oxygen) making fish and other species to migrate to other places but there are some plants and animals that cannot move so fast that they die because they need oxygen to being alive and bacteria has taken away this essential oxygen for ... Around one hundred fifty thousand migrated to this territory over the course of three years, being one of the world s largest migrations in history. The wealth gained by the Forty Niner s in this era provided the opportunity for the creation of the economic powerhouse we see California as today. The California Gold Rush is a very complex topic to understand. There is a common misconception of it simply being a time of profit or loss by miners digging for gold. When instead, the Gold Rush was a time when Gold Fever was a common sickness of people around the world, people of all ages and color striving to meet their dreams of success and fortune. This migration of miners is best understood when California s history before the Gold Rush, the chaos over land ownership and lack of authority, and its short term and long term impacts are extensively analyzed (4). Before the start of the Gold Rush in 1849, California was a Mexican territory. It is Key to note (for later understanding of the issues concerning land ownership and makeshift law within the gold mining districts) that the Gold Rush was not a factor of concern for neither country within the Mexican War. The Mexican War was sparked by the increasingly hostile territorial disputes between Mexico and the, at the time, Republic of Texas. • 28. Jewish Folk Dance As A Means Of Creating A New Israeli... Jewish national identity was colonized when Jewish people were forced out of ancient Israel and dispersed to various different nations. Anti Semitism was one of the principle means for this colonization because it made it dangerous for Jewish people to express their own national identity in the European nations they dispersed to. As a result, certain traditions, like Jewish folk dance, which were not codified, were lost. Jewish folk dance also disappeared because folk traditions are strongly connected to the land in which they originated and the majority of Jews left Israel. Furthermore, because of the third commandant of the Torah, Jews were not allowed to depict images of their dance. Consequently, their traditional dance was lost forever. However, when the Jews returned to Israel in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they found it important to recreate traditions like folk dance to reassert their fractured nationhood after so many years of diaspora. Thus, Israeli folk dance was a means of creating a new Israeli culture. Israeli folk dance was created by using elements from other dance cultures with themes and music of modern Israel. In this paper, I will argue that while anti Semitism resulted in the colonization of Jewish national identity, women re created Israeli folk dance as a means to establish a new Jewish identity, as well as an identity for themselves. Factors That Influence Rainfall in the United States Factors that Influence Rainfall in the United States A type of precipitation is rainfall and it develops when water vapor condenses into droplets in the atmosphere thus becoming too heavy to stay suspended in the air so gravity causes them to fall. The pattern or occurrence of rainfall in the United States or basically anywhere in the world depends on several factors such as ground elevation, wind directions, location within a continental mass, areas of low pressure, cool fronts, jet streams and even mountain ranges. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the pressure is high it means that the air s pressure is higher than the pressure of the surrounding air in the area. A low is where it is lower. This means that where the air is slowly descending the pressure is high and vice versa. So, as air descends, it warms, which inhibits the formation of clouds. This means that the air that descends in high pressure area has to get to high altitudes in some way which is why air actually rises in low pressure areas. Winds tend to blow into low pressure areas because are moves from higher pressure areas into lower pressure areas. When the wind moves into a low area the air moves up and eventually cools and rainfall comes about. Also the low pressure that causes the air to rise has to do with the Criolis Effect, which is the force caused by the Earth s spin that redirects moving air to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. According to meteorologist Tony Pann, who works with Coriolis Effect stated, With the Coriolis effect, air circulates in patterns that depend on latitude. At the mid latitudes of the USA, most weather systems move from west to east. However, systems tend to move from east to west near the poles and in the tropic (Pann). Smith introduced us to the invisible hand theory which referred to the free markets. There was a recent market crisis in early 2008, mainly because of the way that the markets were being run and the lack of transparency. Smith s theories held that there is no need for government involvement, but clearly lack of government involvement in this case was simply not an option and would have lead to an even more chaotic situation. Smith s theories were a great foundation and a lot of the ways in which we live today are based on these theories. It s evident in our ever growing society, in the many professions that people work in and the number of new businesses being created. With that said, even though Smith s theories are still relevant, with the changing times and society, the way the markets are handled will need to be improved.
