Exploration Of Cultural Identity Formation
I. Exploration of Cultural Identity Formation
How do I define Race and Culture?
Race can first be classified by the geographic place of origin of a people group, but can also be
visually identified by shared physical characteristics such as skin color, hair color and texture, and
facial features. When defining culture, I think of my own which encompasses: traditions and customs;
general values and ethics; political influences; religious influences; technological influences; historical
influences; gender roles/expectations; social class; social status; economic status; education; language,
including its proper and improper use; and something I may have overlooked prior to my required
readings for this paper race.

After reading chapters five and six in the Sue text, I feel that minority groups understand what it
means to be White much better than the majority of White people do. I believe this is because they
have to deal with what it means to not be White on a daily basis, in a culture where whiteness equates
to power and privilege. White privilege unfortunately works like that Whites are unaware of its
oppressive force, as it does not affect us because we created it. If I am honest, I have realized that I
was unaware of many aspects of my own White privilege. For the purpose of this paper, since political
correctness infers that Caucasian is an outdated term (Dewan, 2013), and to answer what my race is
accurately, I am White.
What is my Culture?
Due to page limitations, I will refrain from diving to deep into my cultural makeup, and only
contribute the valuable information that is applicable to the purpose of this paper. The following
addresses my answer: I am a twenty two year old young adult who is a member of Generation Y; I am
a heterosexual female; I am White; my religion is Christianity; my morals and values are based on the
Christian principles with which I was raised, and grew to value independently (with scrutiny regarding
certain areas); I am growing in my political understanding,

objective of keeping a close eye on the industry prices and take advantage of consumers. Rules set by
government and agencies that help control the operations of businesses who may demonstrate
monopoly power in their organization. Monopoly may lead to consumers being exploited (higher
prices) and consumers paying way too much for a product. Antitrust laws are federal and state
government laws that regulate the conduct and organization or businesses. This helps promote fair
competition for consumers. There are four main areas involving the ... Show more content on

Many utilities are monopolies by having the entire market share in certain areas. With deregulation of
these utilities, the market becomes open to competition for market share to begin. In terms of
regulation of monopoly, the government attempts to prevent operations that are against the public
interest, call anti competitive practices. Likewise, oligopoly is a market condition where there are
minimal distributors that have a major influence on prices and other market factors. This causes
market failure, especially if evidence of collusive behavior by dominant businesses is found. There are
three primary federal and state regulatory commissions that govern industrial regulation. They include
the Federal Power Commission, the Federal Energy Regulation Commission, and the Natural Gas Act.
The Federal Power Commission, which was created in 1930, allowed cabinet members to coordinate
federal hydropower dams and navigable waters that the federal government owned. Years later, the
FPC became The Federal Energy Regulation Commission. The FERC oversee the transmission of
liquefied natural gas, while still overseeing electricity and hydroelectric projects. The Federal Energy
Regulation Commission possess control over electricity, natural gas pricing, and oil pipeline and non
federal hydropower projects. It is made up of five commissioners that are approved by the President
with approval from the Senate. In 1938, the Natural Gas Act

Gender Roles In Twelfth Night
Shakespeare s romantic comedy Twelfth Night arguably poses questions about sexuality and the social
constraints of gender. In his 1996 film adaptation of the play Trevor Nunn takes these queries and
highlights them for his audience. Nunn s opening, pictures Viola and Sebastian both dressed in harem
costumes as entertainment for the others on board the ship. Panning around the room we see Antonio
watching the twins intensely. Antonio shows very little emotion in this scene, nor any recognition of
which twin is which. This opening seems to bring the similarity of the twins to the forefront of the
audience s attention, as well as perhaps their androgyny, as not only is Sebastian dressed up as a
harem girl, but underneath this first costume Viola is wearing a fake moustache disguising her as a
male. The opening of the original play presents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This confusion may be admitted by the audience due to their similarity in appearance both dressed as
men and their manner being so alike. Nunn reminds his audience of the likeness which he portrayed in
his opening scene, when Sebastian meets Feste and performs the same trick with the coin that Cesario
performed at the beginning of the film. Sebastian s obvious confusion with the situation is seemingly
ignored by Olivia in her excitement when Sebastian says that he will be ruled by [her]. Nunn runs this
scene straight into the scenes Viola being accused by Antonio of being ungrateful and by Olivia and
Orsino for being dishonest, the reunion of Sebastian and Viola and finally Orsino s proposal to Viola,
this continuous sequence of events highlights its importance in clearing up the events and meaning of
the film. In the original play, however Shakespeare breaks up these events with the prank played on
Malvolio, this moves the full attention of the audience away from these points and changes the
meaning of the play to be more about trickery and

Pete Seeger We Shall Overcome Essay
Over the period, We Shall Overcome by Pete Seeger quickly developed into one of the most popular
songs of the civil rights movement. Released in 1959, this song remained an important civil justice
song not only within the movement, but also across the globe. As mentioned earlier, the act of singing
together is a powerful tool to unite individuals and to create a sense of community. This song evoked
vitality and strong emotions across the south were most of the blacks lived as well as rejuvenating
courage, and confidence in the search for freedom in their struggles. The complex process of the song,

American musical culture, but also the movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then later, Frank Hamilton, started singing as a faster tempo, which made the song now have a strong
pulse (F, 2010). The song has an AABA structure like a blues song with simple straightforward lyrics
which makes it easy for large groups to sing (Graham, 2015). The constant changes that were made to
the song as it evolved gives us some insight as to what the people wanted and needed from the song.
Originally the song lyrics were written as I will overcome , as it was meant be sung as a hymn or in a
religious context ( We Shall Overcome , 2014). However, in the context of the social movement, the
needs of the group changed and so the lyrics reflected that change. The change from I to we
demonstrates a sense of community and belonging, as well as a group identity. From simply changing
the words will to shall it is evident that the group is trying to convey a message. Through an analysis
of the words will expresses an intention, whereas Shall carries extra weight and force and is associated
with the language of law, regulations, and directives and to express that which is mandatory or
inevitable ( We Shall Overcome ,

The Importance Of Effective Communication
Effective Communication Effective communication can be a hard skill to develop. Changes in the way
society communicates has made methods of getting a message to a larger audience easier but it has
also hindered the development of active listening skills. Written communication and effective listening
are two areas that I am continually striving to enhance. Effective Listening De Janasz, Dowd, and
Schneider provided multiple factors that contribute to the inability to listen effectively. I often find it
hard to listen in specific situations such as long meetings, individuals that take a long time to get to the
point, subjects that I do not have an interest in. I have tried different methods to overcome my
shortfalls; yet, I never thought about the root causes. Physiological limitations, I work in a large office
and if I am out on the main floor having a conversation with a team member often my visual cues start
taking over. I can see other things that need my attention and I start feeling as if the conversation
needs to be rushed so I can attend to something else. I have started to sit down and have a
conversation with the person I am talking to rather than walking over to the desk and hovering while
we are talking. This is helping me stay focused on the person, rather than seeing the multitude of
situations that are happening around me. Boredom is another factor I am working to overcome;
especially in long meetings. I often find myself wondering off and

area which have to be overcome. One of the important challenges is security over cloud network.
There are two major categories: security issues faced by cloud providers and security issues faced by
customers. The providers must ensure that their infrastructure is secure and clients also ensure that
their data and applications are protected over the cloud. The main objective of the review paper is to
enhance both the performance as well as the security of mobile cloud computing. This paper presents
a review on the background of MCC with characteristics and recent research work. It then analyses the
challenges regarding the security of MCC and overcome them by providing an extra layer of

Asthma Research Paper
In this paper I will be discussing the effects of respiratory acidosis on the body. More specifically, I
will be discussing these effects in the relation to Asthma. I will describe the anatomical changes and
pathophysiology of the disease, explain how it effects elimination of carbon dioxide from the airway,
state the physiological compensation mechanisms and relate this condition back to respiratory acidosis
and its effect on the body.
Asthma is a respiratory disease that directly effects the trachea, bronchi and bronchioles causing
inflammation and swelling. Typically this is caused by a hyper response to allergens. Symptoms
usually include: wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing.
There are two different types of Asthma: The first is known as Atopic Asthma . This is usually
diagnosed in childhood and it is believed that genetics play a crucial role in obtaining the disease. In
Atopic Asthma when exposed to an allergen there is an excess release of immunoglobulin from B
lymphocytes. IgE binds to cells involved in the inflammation which results in bronchoconstriction and
inflammation of airways . (citation journal) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Culture Of The Mexican Culture In Mexico
Tacos, chile, horchata, piñatas and cartels is what people think when they hear the word
Mexican and that is exactly what it is. Not only is Mexico our neighbor, but is known for its cheap
goods and great food, as a Mexican I am proud of that. It may be one of the most dangerous places to
go to because of the drug war, but the Mexican culture is just wonderful, colorful, and full of life.
How lucky am I to live so close to a place, Olvera street, that represents my culture the way it does.
This historical district is not the only one, there are many more that preserve and represent different
cultures here in the city of angels.
According to Wikipedia, Olvera street was the heart of Los Angeles since it was first settled by
Spanish settlers in 1781, then it was taken over in 1821 by Mexicans. During the Mexican rule the
plaza remained the center of Los Angeles; so, to preserve the history it became a Mexican style

The tree was introduced to Florida, USA in 1911 by the USDA, and is also now commonly grown in
Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. In Brazil, where it was introduced from India during Portuguese
colonization, it has dispersed spontaneously in the wild in some places, as its fruits are eagerly sought
by various native birds such as thrushes, tanagers and the Great Kiskadee. This species is considered
an invasive in Hawaii, USA.
A fairly fast growing species, it can reach heights of up to 30 m and can live more than 100 years. Its
dense foliage provides shade and is grown just for its ornamental value. The wood is strong and is
water resistant. Because of this it is used in railway sleepers and to install motors in wells. It is
sometimes used to make cheap furniture and village dwellings though it is relatively hard to work on.

tends to colour the tongue purple. The seed is also used in various alternative healing systems like

Symbolism In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
The short fictional novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde tells the tale of a dedicated
London lawyer named Gabriel Utterson who searches for truth after a close friend of his named Henry
Jekyll, gradually spirals downward, committing unspeakable acts of violence and depravity following
his first ingestion of a mystical potion. Utterson must uncover the buried secrets kept by the
withdrawn doctor and childhood friend before it is too late, while also investigating the puzzling
murder of a respected senator and former client of his. Prominent themes in the book such as the

Hyde s physical appearance, the symbolism of the lab connecting to Dr. Jekyll s home, and the
symbolism of the mystical potion taken by Dr. Jekyll all help convey the powerful themes that
transcend the book. First and foremost, Mr. Hyde s physical appearance described by those that have
seen him commit horrible atrocities signifies his alternate or dual personality as he crosses societal
boundaries. Transformed from a tall, revered and affluent doctor, to a shorter hairier uglier looking
figure, Dr Jekyll represents the part of society most of us try to embrace while his more nefarious
counterpart represents the greatest fears of society a killer without a motive who feels euphoric and
rejuvenated after slaying innocent prey. The lab that connects Dr. Jekyll s home to his lab also allows
readers to acknowledge the vastly different personalities that a person may have. After having its door
broken down, this same lab illustrates that secrets cannot be kept indefinitely, especially those that
regard personality and there will eventually come a time when a victor is chosen between the
aforementioned good and evil combating inside an individual s head. The potion that is discovered to
have helped transform Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde could represent a plethora of external and internal
catalysts. Today, substances like drugs and alcohol may have a similar effect to the potion taken by Dr.
Jekyll. Internal factors like greed and gluttony could also symbolize the potion s effect on the mind
and body. Many of the listed substances don t create something that isn t already there; rather they
expose our conscious and subconscious desires and in some cases amplify them. This is where
genetics and natural, inherent proclivities come into play, making certain behavior like smoking and
drinking enticing. These can sometimes reveal our true nature. Dr. Jekyll longed for true freedom and
through the simple intake of a potion he was able to attain a

The questions addressed in this particular hypothetical case distinguish between crimes (a) and (b),
both perpetrated by a person of generally well accepted standing. The only distinction between them is
in relation to the sentence imposed. The law does not prohibit the publication of an individual s
criminal convictions, irrespective of the type of crime or misdemeanor as seen in Campbell v Mirror
Group Newspapers Ltd.
Hence, the instance referred to here, concerning a news report regarding Malcolm Somebody being
charged of a sexual offence, demonstrate behaviour which is not fitting for a person of any particular
standing, therefore there is limited room for lowering individual any more in the eyes of society. At
any rate, hypothesis (b) would go before a jury. As long as the report only covers facts without any
additional sting, there is little or no legal remedy, not even a right to protection under the privacy

Nevertheless, should the reporting go beyond the necessary degree of straight fact, the professor could

wants and needs above his own. This symbolism represents the cage and how separation from society
led to the hunger artist s downfall. The next symbol described in the story is the clock. The clock was
the only piece of furniture in the man s cage besides the hay. The all important striking of the clock
that was the only piece of furniture in his cage (333). The clock represents that as time goes on the
hunger artist s relationship with his audience continues to fail which starts the domino effect that
carries over to the man s mental health. Ultimately the clock shows that the hunger artist s life is
slowly ticking away and that he is slowly killing his body and his mind. The last major symbolism
used in the story is the panther. The panther replaces the hunger artist in his cage after he passes away.
The panther is the complete opposite of the hunger artist. Furnished almost to the bursting point with
all that it needed, seemed to carry freedom around with it too (342). The panther was full of life and
energy and on top of that was well nourished. The panther is very well liked in the circus unlike the
hunger artist was. Another trait the panther possessed that the hunger artist did not was that the
panther did not require attention to be happy. If the hunger artist would have simply lived with this
mindset his life would have been so much more brighter and positive. The strong use of symbolism in
this story helps explain to the

Stanislavski Differences In The Arts Theater
When reading the text given, my first reaction was that I was surprised that Stanislavski did not start
professionally working until he was 33 years of age. I think I am shocked by this as he managed to
create such a huge difference in the arts industry by starting at this age. The information in the text
that impacted me the most was the way the Moscow Arts Theatre had a routine. I personally like and
agree with the way that Stanislavski suggested he wanted the theatre to run. Particularly the fact that
they didn t use stars to promote their performances, instead they focused on the acting to sell the
tickets. Within the routine they had 33 rehearsals, which seems a lot but this would allow the actors to
really focus on every gesture

Using A Sample Size Is Dependent On The Study Design
Research studies need not only start with efficient study design to address the hypothesis of the study
but also the determination of the appropriate number of participants that will be involved in the study.
It is true that the sample size is dependent on the study design, on statistical analysis used to answer
the study questions, and on the anticipated association between the outcome and the risk factor. The
sample size should not be too large as it wastes money and time both to the investigators and
participants in the study. It should not be too small as well because it may lead to inaccurate results
causing a waste of time and resources. In addition, participates in a large sample size may be exposed
to unnecessary risk. Therefore, careful attention should be taken while determining the appropriate
sample size for any study as it raises the question of ethical practices.
Any researcher should define the main objective of the study or the research question and the study
design before selecting a representative sample size. Then the proportion of participants, and the value
of the numbers to put in the formula is considered before determining the sample size. Kamangar
Islami (2013) states that the non statistical consideration in determining the sample size are the
availability of the fund, ethical issues, number of participants available, the novelty of the study, and
any similar studies being conducted etc. The investigators give the rationale why their study is

They have many benefits to having a community garden. Not only do community gardens draw
people together from various backgrounds such as their age, race, culture and social class, they also
grow more than food. There is hunger around the world and being apart of a garden club has many
perks. The involvement in social community usually leads to long term relationships among people
that might not usually work. All these things have benefits for the community garden. A community
garden helps out the whole community by a lot. Having a community garden can help a lot of people
by having fresh food and having a group of people you can always turn to and get help from in the
garden. You could learn new and old techniques from the older generation and newer because usually
the older folks have a lot more tricks up their sleeve than younger people. Everyone should be apart of
some type of Garden Club.
Community gardens can help provide to the town and families because you are growing fresh

Apathy According To The Dalai Lama
How does the Dalai Lama define apathy? Using this definition, discuss how apathy might manifest at
following energy centers: Root, Sacral, Solar, Heart and Throat. Be sure to provide supporting details
and examples.
According to the Dalai Lama, apathy is a form of selfishness that stems from concentrating solely
within our inner development. Apathy occurs when we lose connection to the problems to societal and
global problems. This includes being aware of these issue both also indifferent to them as they may
not affect us directly. The Dalai Lama suggests that we approach ethics with global responsibility,
which essentially indicates that we must be aware of and willing to appreciate about the environment

Individuals often operate out of fear regarding the environment around them. This fear may develop
from traumas around abandonment and physical neglect. Individuals with abandonment traumas are

Sacral: Guilt can feed apathetic disconnection with one s surroundings through defense mechanisms,
such as denial. Many are in denial about the issues plaguing the Earth today. They are more often than
not, suppressing guilt for their contributions to these global problems. People with imbalances in the
sacral chakra may experience lack of desire and passion to contribute positively to society, which
directly relates to apathy. In addition, these people were possibly neglected or experienced coldness

Queen Elizabeth Essay
Queen Elizabeth was born on September 7, in 1533 to a royal couple by the name of Henry VIII and
Anne Boleyn. She pertained a strong personality and strong political skills in overlooking marriage
proposals and intensely flirting with many available suitors. She reigned over England without a king
or children (Britannia: Elizabeth 1). Her father was known for the execution of his wives. The king
had announced that any daughter would be illegitimate to the line of succession because his upcoming
sons would be highly favorable to the throne (Thomas, Heather). Anne Boleyn was killed by the king
for not providing him with a son, but a daughter who would live to be a legend of English times
(Thomas, Heather).

Whether this was true or not, Elizabeth was arrested and put in prison. She was moved around to
different prisons for a little over a year. However, when Queen Mary I started to become ill, her
husband, Philip of Spain, called Elizabeth out of prison to develop a friendship with her, since she
would take the throne when Queen Mary I would die (Putatunda, Rita).
According to Green, this coronation to the throne took place on January 15, 1559. The new queen
started to take advantage of all the new opportunities. She started horseback riding more. She also
took up hunting and hawking and enjoyed watching jousts and theatre (Green, Robert 53). Elizabeth
was also strong in her Catholic beliefs. Heather Thomas writes that she reestablished a Protestant
Church and became the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, which was to please those
attending (Thomas, Heather). Britannica states that she was a Conservative Protestant. She liked
traditional style of worship and did not believe in executing people for their religious beliefs
(Britannia Encyclopedia Elizabeth I). Marriage proposals became a daily routine. Regard her beliefs
for the matrimony; she used the proposals to frighten enemies or to even draw them in. However, she

In this lab, spectrochemical technique was used to determine qualitively the product of a reaction. The
purpose was to learn what a SN1 reaction was with combining 2,5 dimethyl 2,5 hexanediol and HCl
and to learn how to use an infrared spectrum for analyzing the reaction. The infrared spectrum
determined the alcohol content present in the final product. If the IR of a molecule with an alcohol is

1. Suggest at least one chemical reason why your percent yield is less than 100%. (Incomplete

Incomplete reactions could be a possible chemical reason to why the percent yield is less than 100%.
During the procedure, the experiment might not have been mixed long enough for the Cl ion to fully

2. SN1 and E1 reactions both involved the initial formation of a carbocation intermediate. In this
experiment, why is the SN1 product favoured over the E1 product?
The SN1 mechanism leads to substitution products, and the E1 mechanism leads to formation of
alkenes, therefore in this case, it is shown that this mechanism leads to a substitution of products since
the Cl ion is replacing the OH group by the addition of a strong acid (HCl). When the nucleophile

Year Round Schooling Should Be A Positive Change
Year Round Schooling Could be a Positive Change
Summer vacation. For most children and teens, the phrase conjures up images of hot, sunny days and
vacations with the whole family to far off places. We all envision lazy afternoons relaxing on the
beach, playing in water parks, and going on picnics. But what happens when summer ends and the
reality of another year of school sinks in?
A large portion of the knowledge gained during the last school year is lost over the long idle months
and must be retaught for weeks, which wastes a lot of time that could be spent learning new material.
This puts students behind in that year s curriculum, and over many summers, can add up to students
being months or years behind where they would be if no learning was lost. There is a solution to this
problem, however: year round school. Year round school provides many advantages for both students
and adults over the traditional summer vacation schedule.
The most important advantage of year round school is that it helps students retain knowledge.
Learning lost during the summer is a big problem. Proponents of year round school assert that having
shorter breaks would reduce learning loss because the students couldn t forget as much over a shorter
period of time. Detractors often say that there have been no reputable studies supporting this. It is true
that many studies had somewhat faulty methodologies, failing to account for other variables that could
have affected performance, like

The Life and Times of Benjamin Bugsy Siegel
Benjamin Bugsy Siegel was a man unlike any other, a man who strove to be better than what he was,
and who grew up with nothing yet died with everything (Carter 179; PBS par. 1; Bugsy Siegel
Encyclpaedia par. 3). Unlike many who give up in life because of the many problems they may face,
Bugsy Siegel strove to be better than his father was (Carter 179). Eventually, Siegel began forcing
peddle cart vendors to give him payments for protection from himself (PBS par. 2; Carter 179). Thus
began Siegel s transformation to a true mafia man running around with Lucky Luciano, Meyer

Siegel became a hit man for Luciano and instead of ordering others in Murder Inc. to go and kill the

Luciano needed somewhere to put the money. Lansky and Luciano asked Siegel to go and look at a
bank that they had chosen. Siegel went to the bank, and hated it he claimed it was too easy to rob and
a few weeks later Siegel robbed the very same bank for eight thousand dollars (Carter 180). This
relationship practically created Las Vegas, and eventually led to the death of Bugsy Siegel. After a few
years of working together the three mobsters began to spread their business westward towards Los
Angeles, and who better to run the operations than the suave Siegel? Luciano asked Siegel to go to
L.A. and keep watch over their businesses there (Bugsy Siegel Encyclopaedia par. 3). It was here that
Siegel began to have many mistresses, including Virginia Hill, even after his wife Estelle Krakower,
married since 1929, bore him two girls (Carter 187, 180; PBS par. 5). When in L.A. Siegel met up

The Conflict Of Fiduciary Duty
Question A: SUCCESSIVE CONFLICT Fiduciary Duty Practitioners must not accept a retainer in any
action against a former client or someone from whom they have obtained confidential and material
information and it is reasonable to conclude that there is a real possibility the information will be used
to the persons detriment. There was no retainer between Virginia and Teddy, but a duty of
confidentiality could still apply in equity if the information was believed to be confidential or in a
lawyer client relationship. Because of the informal social setting and lack of detailed information
exchanged, it is likely that Virginia does not owe Teddy a fiduciary duty or duty of confidence. If
Virginia does owe Teddy a fiduciary duty, the onus of proof is on Teddy to show whether she has
confidential information, whether that information is relevant to the new matter and whether it is
reasonable for Teddy to conclude that there is a real risk that the information will be used to his
detriment. Next, the onus shifts to whether information screening can appropriately protect the firm.
Breach of confidence in equity requires confidential information that has the necessary quality of
confidence, imparted in circumstances importing an obligation of confidence, not otherwise required
by law or in the public interest. The objective test for judicial intervention is whether a reasonable
observer would perceive a real possibility of misuse of confidential information. Courts will

* Leapfrog strategy This strategy involves bypassing the enemy s forces altogether. In the business
arena, this involves either developing new technologies, or creating new business models. This is a
revolutionary strategy that re writes the rules of the game. The introduction of compact disc
technology bypassed the established magnetic tape based defenders. The attackers won the war
without a single costly battle. This strategy is very effective when it can be realized.
Defensive marketing warfare strategies They are a type of marketing warfare strategy designed to
protect a company s market share, profitability, product positioning, or mind share. Fundamental
principles: 1. Always counter an attack with equal or greater force. 2. Defend every important market.
3. Be forever vigilant in scanning for potential attackers. Assess the strength of the competitor. 4. The
best defense is to attack yourself. Attack your weak spots and rebuild yourself anew. 5. Defensive
strategies should be the exclusive domain of the market leader
The main types of defensive marketing warfare strategies are: * Position defense This involves the
defense of a fortified position. This tends to be a weak defense because you become a sitting duck . It
can lead to a siege situation in which time is on the side of the attacker, that is, as time goes by the
defender gets weaker, while the attacker gets stronger. In a business context, this involves

Disparity Between The Passion Of The Christ by Mel Gibson...
The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson, recounts the last twelve hours of the life of Jesus of
Nazareth, portraying his arrest, trial, crucifixion and death. One of the most popular religious movies
in modern times, it therefore becomes susceptible to criticism. Although the film is based upon the
stories within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, there are many exaggerations and
non biblical elements present in the movie. This is not unexpected, since it is a movie, but the vivid
detail of the brutality in the movie as well as the Anti Semitic theme are the most publicly criticized
elements of the movie. The Passion emphasizes the brutality Jesus endured to give himself for his

After re reading some of the gospels, it doesn t explain or declare that he was shy about his beliefs. In
the scenes of the movie, he is preaching his peace and ideas of independence, but the high priests and
the Jewish people do not show him any mercy or respect. Even at the voice of the governor Pontius
Pilate, who several times mentions that he doesn t find any guilt or reason to persecute Jesus, the
people still wish for his crucifixion. The movie did not really make sense of the motivation of the
Jewish high priests or the Jewish people, and it was not explained in the gospels either. However, in
Mark 15; 10 11, it suggests that Pontius Pilate realized that it was out of jealousy that the chief priests
had handed Jesus over. The chief priests, however, had incited the crowd to demand that he should
release Barabbas for them instead . Therefore, according to the Bible, the chief priests were envious of
Jesus, and that is why they condemned him to be crucified. It was an act of panic more than anything
else. The people, fearing to be considered outcasts, therefore agreed with whatever the high priests
would say. This still does not explain why the Jewish people were so quick to have their savior and
messiah killed. The movie suggests that they all felt passionately about this themselves, because all

Adaptation In The Tempest
The Tempest is believed to be the final play written by English playwright William Shakespeare
(Arnold 2009: 1). This allegorical play takes place on an exotic island and describes the master slave
relationship between Prospero the virtuous ruler and Caliban the ugly evil. Approximately three and a
half centuries later, French poet and author Aimé Césaire, who objected to colonialism and was
concerned about post colonial issues, published A Tempest ( Une TempĂȘte ), a post colonial adaptation
of Shakespeare s work.
While the two plays share the same characters and provokes similar ideal dichotomies of master and
slave; colonizer and colonized; natural and supernatural (Chan 2008: 1), there are differences, for
instance, Caliban becomes a Black slave and the ending is changed in CĂ©saire s version. Based on
these alterations, some consider A Tempest not a translation of The Tempest but rather an adaptation
that stands on its own, independent of the original. In response to this view, this paper attempts to
examine the relationship between the two versions and analyze in what ways A Tempest can and
cannot be regarded a translation of The Tempest. The reason to view CĂ©saire s work not as a

seen as a form of dialogue with Shakespeare s original (ibid: 293). Indeed, traces of ambiguities being

When you want to breathe as bad as you want to succeed then you ll be successful. Eric Thomas. So
many people around the world wonder if this quote is valid or invalid. This quote is indeed valid when
it comes to having the qualities of becoming successful. The exactly first thing many people think
after failing at something they love is,is it even worth fighting for anymore. Should they give up or try
harder next time. Unfortunately for Eric Thomas dropped out of High school at the age of sixteen and
when he was eighteen he he met a pastor, who inspired him to go complete his GED exams and go to
college. He began to inspire people later on in his life because he felt that motivation was it. On
September 16,2013 Eric Thomas released a motivational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

just like Eric Thomas. For Example Benjamin had a way of speaking to people and convincing them
to see the situation and solving it. He provided people with valuable information that was enable them

Changes That Affect the Economic Environment in Business
Introduction
For this task I shall explain the changes in the economic environment on the business. This may
include changes within the following,
Business cycle
Inflation
Unemployment
International trade
The business that that I will be looking at is Whitbread who own Premier Inn and Costa coffee. I will
be explaining within this task how the above may affect Whitbread and its two companies Costa and
Premier inn whether it is for the better or worse.
Business cycle
When looking at a graph of a business cycle we can expect to see increases and falls in production,
income and expenditure of a company over time. The economy of the U.K, moves from boom to
recession over time and these changes within the economy have major ... Show more content on

This will also affect trade as If the UK has higher inflation than competitor countries (which it isn t
now, but it has been for a lot of the last few decades) then UK prices gradually rise above imported
prices. More imports are bought, so demand leaks out of the country and leaves UK businesses in a
weak position such as Premier inn and Costa Coffee so overall inflation is not a good thing if it does
occur and will have a negative effect on Whitbread s businesses.
Unemployment
High unemployment rates especially within the countries that Whitbread operate their businesses,
Costs and Premier inn can have a great effect on business operations as high unemployment will mean
that more people will be relying on benefits for survival and as a result will be spending less, this
would in turn affect businesses such as Premier inn and costa coffee as no one will be using their
products and services which will then effect profits which would mean that they would have to halt
growth and cut staff which are all negative factors as a result. This means when Whitbread are
planning on expanding within different countries they will carefully have to look at these factors.
Since consumers have lower confidence in the strength of the economy and less to spend, demand for
products and services drops, and

Sigmund Freud And Erikson s Theory Of Human Development
Introduction
The issue of human development has been a related one within the human society. In this respect,
there are several developmental theories that have been forwarded by some of the world s most well
known psychologists. The two main psychoanalytic theories are Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory
and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory. They are the two names that one cannot miss while talking
about psychology. Sigmund Freud is called the father of psychology while Erik Erikson s ideas have
become the best known.

Their theories were unique in their own way. Freud s psychosexual theory was focused almost entirely
on male development with little mention of female psychosexual development. When Fisher
Greenberg (1996) evaluated psychosexual hypotheses specifically on female they found nothing.
According to McLeod, S. (2013) Freud based his theory on the recollections of his childhood and his
adult patients, not on actual observation and study of children. On the other hand Erikson s studies
were based on children, college students and most importantly he observed his own children

Race can first be classified by the geographic place of origin of a people group, but can also be visually identified by shared physical characteristics such as skin color, hair color and texture, and facial features. When defining culture, I think of my own which encompasses: traditions and customs; general values and ethics; political influences; religious influences; technological influences; historical influences; gender roles/expectations; social class; social status; economic status; education; language, including its proper and improper use; and something I may have overlooked prior to my required readings for this paper race. After reading chapters five and six in the Sue text, I feel that minority groups understand what it means to be White much better than the majority of White people do. I believe this is because they have to deal with what it means to not be White on a daily basis, in a culture where whiteness equates to power and privilege. White privilege unfortunately works like that Whites are unaware of its oppressive force, as it does not affect us because we created it. If I am honest, I have realized that I was unaware of many aspects of my own White privilege. For the purpose of this paper, since political correctness infers that Caucasian is an outdated term (Dewan, 2013), and to answer what my race is accurately, I am White. What is my Culture? Due to page limitations, I will refrain from diving to deep into my cultural makeup, and only contribute the valuable information that is applicable to the purpose of this paper. The following addresses my answer: I am a twenty two year old young adult who is a member of Generation Y; I am a heterosexual female; I am White; my religion is Christianity; my morals and values are based on the Christian principles with which I was raised, and grew to value independently (with scrutiny regarding certain areas); I am growing in my political understanding, ... • 5. Gender Roles In Twelfth Night Shakespeare s romantic comedy Twelfth Night arguably poses questions about sexuality and the social constraints of gender. In his 1996 film adaptation of the play Trevor Nunn takes these queries and highlights them for his audience. Nunn s opening, pictures Viola and Sebastian both dressed in harem costumes as entertainment for the others on board the ship. Panning around the room we see Antonio watching the twins intensely. Antonio shows very little emotion in this scene, nor any recognition of which twin is which. This opening seems to bring the similarity of the twins to the forefront of the audience s attention, as well as perhaps their androgyny, as not only is Sebastian dressed up as a harem girl, but underneath this first costume Viola is wearing a fake moustache disguising her as a male. The opening of the original play presents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This confusion may be admitted by the audience due to their similarity in appearance both dressed as men and their manner being so alike. Nunn reminds his audience of the likeness which he portrayed in his opening scene, when Sebastian meets Feste and performs the same trick with the coin that Cesario performed at the beginning of the film. Sebastian s obvious confusion with the situation is seemingly ignored by Olivia in her excitement when Sebastian says that he will be ruled by [her]. Nunn runs this scene straight into the scenes Viola being accused by Antonio of being ungrateful and by Olivia and Orsino for being dishonest, the reunion of Sebastian and Viola and finally Orsino s proposal to Viola, this continuous sequence of events highlights its importance in clearing up the events and meaning of the film. In the original play, however Shakespeare breaks up these events with the prank played on Malvolio, this moves the full attention of the audience away from these points and changes the meaning of the play to be more about trickery and ... Released in 1959, this song remained an important civil justice song not only within the movement, but also across the globe. The song has an AABA structure like a blues song with simple straightforward lyrics which makes it easy for large groups to sing (Graham, 2015). The constant changes that were made to the song as it evolved gives us some insight as to what the people wanted and needed from the song. Originally the song lyrics were written as I will overcome , as it was meant be sung as a hymn or in a religious context ( We Shall Overcome , 2014). However, in the context of the social movement, the needs of the group changed and so the lyrics reflected that change. The change from I to we demonstrates a sense of community and belonging, as well as a group identity. From simply changing the words will to shall it is evident that the group is trying to convey a message. Through an analysis of the words will expresses an intention, whereas Shall carries extra weight and force and is associated with the language of law, regulations, and directives and to express that which is mandatory or inevitable ( We Shall Overcome , ... Changes in the way society communicates has made methods of getting a message to a larger audience easier but it has also hindered the development of active listening skills. Written communication and effective listening are two areas that I am continually striving to enhance. Effective Listening De Janasz, Dowd, and Schneider provided multiple factors that contribute to the inability to listen effectively. I often find it hard to listen in specific situations such as long meetings, individuals that take a long time to get to the point, subjects that I do not have an interest in. I have started to sit down and have a conversation with the person I am talking to rather than walking over to the desk and hovering while we are talking. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hyde s physical appearance, the symbolism of the lab connecting to Dr. Jekyll s home, and the symbolism of the mystical potion taken by Dr. Jekyll all help convey the powerful themes that transcend the book. First and foremost, Mr. Hyde s physical appearance described by those that have seen him commit horrible atrocities signifies his alternate or dual personality as he crosses societal boundaries. Transformed from a tall, revered and affluent doctor, to a shorter hairier uglier looking figure, Dr Jekyll represents the part of society most of us try to embrace while his more nefarious counterpart represents the greatest fears of society a killer without a motive who feels euphoric and rejuvenated after slaying innocent prey. The lab that connects Dr. Jekyll s home to his lab also allows readers to acknowledge the vastly different personalities that a person may have. After having its door broken down, this same lab illustrates that secrets cannot be kept indefinitely, especially those that regard personality and there will eventually come a time when a victor is chosen between the aforementioned good and evil combating inside an individual s head. The potion that is discovered to have helped transform Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde could represent a plethora of external and internal catalysts. Today, substances like drugs and alcohol may have a similar effect to the potion taken by Dr. Jekyll. Internal factors like greed and gluttony could also symbolize the potion s effect on the mind and body. Many of the listed substances don t create something that isn t already there; rather they expose our conscious and subconscious desires and in some cases amplify them. The questions addressed in this particular hypothetical case distinguish between crimes (a) and (b), both perpetrated by a person of generally well accepted standing. The only distinction between them is in relation to the sentence imposed. The law does not prohibit the publication of an individual s criminal convictions, irrespective of the type of crime or misdemeanor as seen in Campbell v Mirror Group Newspapers Ltd. Hence, the instance referred to here, concerning a news report regarding Malcolm Somebody being charged of a sexual offence, demonstrate behaviour which is not fitting for a person of any particular standing, therefore there is limited room for lowering individual any more in the eyes of society. At any rate, hypothesis (b) would go before a jury. As long as the report only covers facts without any additional sting, there is little or no legal remedy, not even a right to protection under the privacy provisions . Nevertheless, should the reporting go beyond the necessary degree of straight fact, the professor could theoretically bring a case of defamation but would need to face the defence s plea of veritas. The Hunger Artist by Franz Kafka, is an interesting short story that describes a man s dark and depressing life. In this man s life he is a hunger artist who starves himself to make small amounts of money and to gain attention from his audiences. The hunger artist was a man who was separated from society by his fasting and suffered from the harmful effects of his pride and confusion. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three main symbols in The Hunger Artist are the cage, clock, and the panther. The cage represents how the hunger artist is separated from the rest of society. The man separated himself from society from a physical sense by locking himself in a cage and not coming out. However, he also separated himself from a mental standpoint by making his life revolve around his audiences and putting their wants and needs above his own. This symbolism represents the cage and how separation from society led to the hunger artist s downfall. The next symbol described in the story is the clock. The clock was the only piece of furniture in the man s cage besides the hay. The all important striking of the clock that was the only piece of furniture in his cage (333). The clock represents that as time goes on the hunger artist s relationship with his audience continues to fail which starts the domino effect that carries over to the man s mental health. Ultimately the clock shows that the hunger artist s life is slowly ticking away and that he is slowly killing his body and his mind. The last major symbolism used in the story is the panther. The panther replaces the hunger artist in his cage after he passes away. The panther is the complete opposite of the hunger artist. Furnished almost to the bursting point with all that it needed, seemed to carry freedom around with it too (342). The panther was full of life and energy and on top of that was well nourished. The panther is very well liked in the circus unlike the hunger artist was. Another trait the panther possessed that the hunger artist did not was that the panther did not require attention to be happy. If the hunger artist would have simply lived with this mindset his life would have been so much more brighter and positive. The strong use of symbolism in this story helps explain to the ... Using A Sample Size Is Dependent On The Study Design Research studies need not only start with efficient study design to address the hypothesis of the study but also the determination of the appropriate number of participants that will be involved in the study. It is true that the sample size is dependent on the study design, on statistical analysis used to answer the study questions, and on the anticipated association between the outcome and the risk factor. The sample size should not be too large as it wastes money and time both to the investigators and participants in the study. It should not be too small as well because it may lead to inaccurate results causing a waste of time and resources. In addition, participates in a large sample size may be exposed to unnecessary risk. Therefore, careful attention should be taken while determining the appropriate sample size for any study as it raises the question of ethical practices. Any researcher should define the main objective of the study or the research question and the study design before selecting a representative sample size. Then the proportion of participants, and the value of the numbers to put in the formula is considered before determining the sample size. Kamangar Islami (2013) states that the non statistical consideration in determining the sample size are the availability of the fund, ethical issues, number of participants available, the novelty of the study, and any similar studies being conducted etc. The investigators give the rationale why their study is ... • 30. Year Round Schooling Should Be A Positive Change Year Round Schooling Could be a Positive Change Summer vacation. For most children and teens, the phrase conjures up images of hot, sunny days and vacations with the whole family to far off places. We all envision lazy afternoons relaxing on the beach, playing in water parks, and going on picnics. But what happens when summer ends and the reality of another year of school sinks in? A large portion of the knowledge gained during the last school year is lost over the long idle months and must be retaught for weeks, which wastes a lot of time that could be spent learning new material. This puts students behind in that year s curriculum, and over many summers, can add up to students being months or years behind where they would be if no learning was lost. There is a solution to this problem, however: year round school. Year round school provides many advantages for both students and adults over the traditional summer vacation schedule. The most important advantage of year round school is that it helps students retain knowledge. Learning lost during the summer is a big problem. Proponents of year round school assert that having shorter breaks would reduce learning loss because the students couldn t forget as much over a shorter period of time. Detractors often say that there have been no reputable studies supporting this. It is true that many studies had somewhat faulty methodologies, failing to account for other variables that could have affected performance, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was no retainer between Virginia and Teddy, but a duty of confidentiality could still apply in equity if the information was believed to be confidential or in a lawyer client relationship. Because of the informal social setting and lack of detailed information exchanged, it is likely that Virginia does not owe Teddy a fiduciary duty or duty of confidence. Those videos ranged from music videos to inspirational speeches to excerpts from books (1.1.2). This range of mediums broadened the messages in the videos, as it forced me to respond differently to the information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Adaptation In The Tempest The Tempest is believed to be the final play written by English playwright William Shakespeare (Arnold 2009: 1). This allegorical play takes place on an exotic island and describes the master slave relationship between Prospero the virtuous ruler and Caliban the ugly evil. Approximately three and a half centuries later, French poet and author AimĂ© CĂ©saire, who objected to colonialism and was concerned about post colonial issues, published A Tempest ( Une TempĂȘte ), a post colonial adaptation of Shakespeare s work. While the two plays share the same characters and provokes similar ideal dichotomies of master and slave; colonizer and colonized; natural and supernatural (Chan 2008: 1), there are differences, for instance, Caliban becomes a Black slave and the ending is changed in CĂ©saire s version. Based on these alterations, some consider A Tempest not a translation of The Tempest but rather an adaptation that stands on its own, independent of the original. In response to this view, this paper attempts to examine the relationship between the two versions and analyze in what ways A Tempest can and cannot be regarded a translation of The Tempest. The reason to view CĂ©saire s work not as a translation of Shakespeare s but as an adaptation only will first be presented. How the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The radical departures of CĂ©saire s translation from lexical and content equivalence can therefore be seen as a form of dialogue with Shakespeare s original (ibid: 293). Indeed, traces of ambiguities being attended to and modern viewpoints regarding colonialism being inserted can be detected within A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This will also affect trade as If the UK has higher inflation than competitor countries (which it isn t now, but it has been for a lot of the last few decades) then UK prices gradually rise above imported prices. More imports are bought, so demand leaks out of the country and leaves UK businesses in a weak position such as Premier inn and Costa Coffee so overall inflation is not a good thing if it does occur and will have a negative effect on Whitbread s businesses. Unemployment High unemployment rates especially within the countries that Whitbread operate their businesses, Costs and Premier inn can have a great effect on business operations as high unemployment will mean that more people will be relying on benefits for survival and as a result will be spending less, this would in turn affect businesses such as Premier inn and costa coffee as no one will be using their products and services which will then effect profits which would mean that they would have to halt growth and cut staff which are all negative factors as a result. This means when Whitbread are planning on expanding within different countries they will carefully have to look at these factors. Since consumers have lower confidence in the strength of the economy and less to spend, demand for products and services drops, and
