Stolen Generation Assimilation
The assimilation policy that removed Australian Indigenous children or children of Indigenous descent
from aboriginal communities began in the late 1800s. This formally ceased in the 1970s but some
would argue that it continues to this day. This essay will present evidence including the stolen
aboriginal children s experiences in life and what changed in their life from when they were home to
where they were taken. It is hypothesised that the Stolen Generations have had a live much tougher
than most and should be fully reconciled for the damage done by the Government. It will also examine
the Government s roles have been and how they have changed from during the period of stolen
generations to their current standpoint on the reparations of the stolen generation.
Due to the belief that an aboriginal child that was not full blood or looked caucasian enough to be
brought up and raised as a white child, around 10 000 aboriginal children were forcibly removed from
their families and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Carradus, Delany, McAurthur, Smith, Taylor, Young 2012) Most stories state that they were simply
taken into the custody of the police. For example, confidential evidence to the Bringing Them Home
Report (UNHRC, 1997) states that They put us in the police ute and said they were taking us to
Broome (Confidential Evidence Bringing Them Home Report 1997). This shows that the police force
was used by the Government to take the children away. The story of Murray and Penny (Bringing
Them Home Report 1997) shows an insight to how some members of the stolen generation were
treated in Australia, specifically in Queensland. Murray and Penny were two of six white, aboriginal
siblings brought up in Cairns

The Brief And Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao Analysis
Objectification: the action of degrading someone to the status of a mere object. The Brief and
Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is a novel on the adolescent years of a Dominican boy named Oscar De
Leon [who later is referred to as Oscar Wao]. Adolescence are the years of massive change, physically
and emotionally, which leads to new feelings of excitement. In Dominican culture, men have
supremacy over women and the only way a woman can establish their authority and value is through
their sexuality. In terms of hegemonic sexuality, the dominant group propagates the idea that males
and females should have specific body types with proportioned sex characteristics, (Wilson 1)
Throughout the entire novel, women are always having sex or are described

Evangelical Liberal And Neo-Orthodox Research Paper
The Place of Scripture in Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo Orthodox Thought
The nature and authority of Scripture is approached differently in reference to the three theological
movements in church history, known as Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo orthodox. Because of these
differences in thought, scripture takes on a different meaning for each movement. The nature and
authority of Scripture will be discussed with each of the three theological movements; Evangelical,
Liberal, and Neo orthodox.
The Issues
Evangelicals view the Holy Scriptures, both old testament and new testament, as the perfect word of
God. Evangelical thought does not make claim that man cannot err in the interpretation of Scripture,
but what it does is position man s Evangelical

African Americans During Reconstruction
The best way to predict the future is to create it. Abraham Lincoln. The Union did various things to
help the South during the Reconstruction. They rebuilt roads, got farms operating once again, and
built schools for African American children and adults. Eventually the economy in the South began to
recover. Reconstruction was a period of repair after the civil war. Freed African Americans were
protected by the government during reconstruction by the Freedmen s Bureau, despite the South s
bitterness towards the new changes. Overall, reconstruction was positive because it brought many
affirmative changes for African Americans. First of all, the actions taken by the government to ensure
that Freedmen in the South were protected during the reconstruction was the establishment of the
Freedmen s Bureau. The Freedmen s Bureau was established in March 1865, which helped African
Americans achieve economic stability and secure political freedoms. Some of the things the Freedmen
s Bureau did was ensure that the former slaves earned fair and equal wages. Thus, it created specific
courts to settle disputes between black workers and white employers. In addition to this, the Freedmen
s Bureau established schools for African Americans. By 1870, two hundred fifty thousand African

Reasons Why Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid For...
Division 1 and Division 2 colleges provide over 2.9 billion dollars a year in scholarships to student
athletes. Student athletes should not be compensated for participating in college sports. College
athletes can receive full ride scholarships for playing their sport of choice. Is the 40,000 dollars they
are receiving in scholarships not compensation; thus prompting the question is the top tier education
they are being provided with, not compensation enough? Most of the thousands of students that
participate in college sports compete for the love of the game, not for a paycheck. Furthermore,
college athletes understand that they may not compete at the pro level, in fact, only 2 % of college
athletes go on to play professionally. The main part of the term student athletes is student. Students do
not go to college expecting a check at the end of every month or to land a spot in the first round of the
draft, instead the purpose is to receive an education. All things considered, student athletes should not
receive compensation for playing sports in college because it would be almost financially impossible,
some are already provided with money from scholarships , and finally they are being provided with an
excellent higher education.
Some say colleges should pay athletes because it s a full time job, scholarships aren t enough, not all
players get scholarships or because the NCAA and universities make money off of the sports teams
and players. A big reason the controversy came

Romeo and Juliet Explain How You Would Direct a Section of...
Romeo and Juliet
Explain how you would direct a section of Act 3 scene 5 of Romeo and Juliet for a modern audience.
In your answer you should focus on how Juliet would be presented in this scene and how the scene
would be acted?
Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play, which embodies the true spirit of love and destiny. The play shows
fate, premonition, violence and vengeance while two lovers pine for each other. It shows how love can
be over powering which would supersede all other values and loyalties. Lovers are forced to dissent
their entire social world, e.g. when Romeo leaves his friends to see Juliet and when Juliet says that she
may no longer be a Capulet. It highlights how some traditional families can enforce their traditions on

The way royal families lived in China was very similar to the way the Capulets and Montagues lived,
as there were always rivals e.g. one royal family of a country against another and the Capulets against
the Montagues. The living lifestyle of China was very conservative. Women were not treated equal,
they were segregated from society, and they did not have the privilege to vote, work in a high position
etc. Women were undermined and were controlled by men [father, brother/s and husbands ]. They
were forbidden to talk in public or in the presence of men; they were merely present to obey with what
the men demanded. The way women were portrayed then was similar to how Lady Capulet was
treated by her husband. From the way Lady Capulet reacted to certain situations we could tell that she
felt unequal and powerless [the way women were portrayed then], as she immediately involved her
husband in difficult situations Here comes your father; tell him so yourself , she avoided
confrontation, as she was not familiar on what to do, as the men were always in control of situations

As Juliet has only turned 13, she has only just begun puberty. Arranged marriage would be too soon
and complicated for a young and innocent adolescent girl to consider; however love or love marriage
would be different as this would be purely Juliet s decision. From the strict family

Sexism in Susan Glaspell s A Jury of Her Peers Essay
In Susan Glaspell s A Jury of Her Peers, Minnie Foster is accused of killing her husband. This
accusation forces Mrs. Peters to choose between the law and her inner feelings. Her husband is the
sheriff of Dickenson County, Iowa. It has always been a small, quiet town where nothing really
happens. Mrs. Peters is faced with an internal struggle. On one side, she is married to the law and on
the other side she understands what Minnie has been through. Her husband used to mentally abuse her
to the point where she is now basically secluded from everyone and everything in the world. Mr. Hale
even makes the comment, Though I said at the same time that I didn t know as what his wife wanted

The worst part of it all is that she had a little pet bird that she treated like her own child and John
Wright has killed by wringing its neck. She has nothing to love or care for and definitely has no one to
love and care for her in the way she so desperately needs. When John Wright kills her only friend that
brings her happiness, her little bird, she has to kill him. Minnie always had friends and loved life until
this man kept her away from it. Minnie has every right in the world to kill her husband.
Glaspell also gives the impression that all men are jerks. For example, the men constantly make fun of
the women and put them down for everything they do or do not do. In the beginning of the story the
men complained of dirty towels when Minnie is in jail and has not even been home to clean up (264).
Even though many men may be like that, not all men are. These types of men are the ones who give
the rest of the gender a bad name. Glaspell was not at fault by making some men look bad, but she
could have put at least one man in the story who was kind and understanding. In the story, she makes
every man look like a jerk. By doing that, Glaspell basically says that is how all men are and that they
cannot and will not be sensitive or be able to understand women in any way, shape or form. She is
wrong. She does not give men enough credit. There are plenty of men who are sensitive and Glaspell
refuses to show that side of the male gender.

Cooking Mistakes Happen Every Day At My House Essay
Cooking mistakes happen every day at my house. I am either chasing a wild toddler, feeding a hungry
baby, or preoccupied with another activity to watch my food constantly. Cooking is in every aspect of
life: meal time, family get togethers, parties, holidays, celebrations, etc. No matter how much you love
or despise the activity, everyone cooks at some time during their life. Here are 4 common cooking
blunders and the solutions to make the food edible. Burned Food Around our household, burned food
is the most common mistake. I always get preoccupied with some other task, and the edges of our
meal always get burned. The best way to solve this problem is to transfer any unburned food to a
separate pan. Then, set the new pan in cold water to prevent the burned flavor and stop anymore
cooking. Once the food cools, the only way to remove the burned flavor completely is to cover the
food with a slightly damp towel for 3 minutes. Sticky Food Have you ever made rice or pasta and it all
clumped together? The best way to solve this cooking problem is to run the food under hot water for
about 30 seconds. Fried food also has the problem of sticking together. You do not want to run water
over the fried food. Instead, set the pan in cold water and gently un stick the pieces from each other
with a flexible spatula. Food That is Too Salty I am a big fan of salt, so when I believe there is too
much salt in a particular dish, we have problems. Soups are notorious for being too

Imagery In A Walk In The Woods
The Appalachian Trail spans over 2,000 miles on the east coast of the United States. It is a dangerous
hike that takes people, around 6 months to complete. The hike has snowy parts and hot sunny parts.
The book A Walk in the Woods, was wrote by Bill Bryson. He tries to take on the storm with a friend
named Katz. He remembers battling a deceitful snow storm without knowing where he was or if he
was going to get out. Bryson makes a mood of imagery and adventure. Imagery is when an author
appeals to the readers 5 senses: taste, feel, smell, and hear. Bryson makes it so we can see his senses
through his writing, through his descriptions. In Line 20, Bryson describes crossed the stream

Psychology Of Fear
Many individuals would agree that at least one thing terrifies them. In fact, there is a whole television
series based on what strange phobias people have. These fears or phobias can range from anything
consisting of being terrified of the dark, to being petrified to simply stand next to a person. People
often wonder what causes a fear. One unique theory as to why these fears develop, is that they are the
effect of a traumatic event that took place in the person s life. In addition, another philosophy is that
fear is the body s natural defense to danger. Whatever the cause may be, fear has the gift to maintain a
person s safety or the capability to render a person s life miserable. However, my apprehensions of
water have the aptitude of all the above. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

so nourishing also, the same factor that terrorizes me. Water was not always a fear that I possessed,
after all I spent a majority of my summer days at our local swimming pool. Nothing could possibly
compare to being surrounded by cold water on a hot summer day except, maybe the smell that filled
the atmosphere. The air was thick with the scents of chlorine, sunscreen, and maybe even the
occasional evidence of baby oil. Sounds of laughter and amusement had been always present at the
swimming pool and as a result, I could never get enough. However, in a direct moment all these

financial planning. This lack of financial planning is especially concerning because many women face
unique challenges in preparing for retirement like lower earning power and more time spent out of the
workforce to be a caregiver. Women also neglect to express more concern than men about the
obstacles they may face in retirement. For example, one of the most prominent of these hurdles for
women is longevity on average, women outlive men. The average life expectancy for American
women is about 80 years (compared to 75 years for men), yet 24% of women underestimate the years

Leadership And The Life Cycle Of A Group . A Group Is A
Leadership and the Life Cycle of a Group
A group is a living thing, developing over time and adapting to the environment and expectations
imposed upon it as it grows. When observed carefully, a pattern of distinct phases emerge in this
growth process. It is important to recognize and take advantage of these various stages of development
in order to maximize group effectiveness and efficiency. There are several different models for small
group development, but Tuckman s model is probably the most famous sequential stage theory
(Johnson Johnson, 2016, p.27). This paper will discuss the five stages of group development
according to Tuckman s model as well as some practical leadership guidelines that will help a group
remain effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of great value at this stage is encouragement and patience. The reason for the conflict is generally
insecurity (Bonebright, 2010, p. 114), so providing a strong support system an reassurance can help
move a group to the next phase.
As members of the group begin to feel safe and secure, the conflict will settle and the group will
develop a bond and unified goals. Labeled a period of norming, it is characterized by close
relationships and cohesiveness (Group Development, 2003). In fact, this stage is so characterized by
relationship that it could almost be viewed as a honeymoon phase. Group members will frequently set
aside differences and unity becomes a priority. It is important at this stage to emphasize honesty and
creativity because the group will likely be trying so hard to be amenable that some members may hold
back. Others will be ready to open up given their newfound sense of security within the group. This is
also a critical time for the group because it typically delineates a time to commit (Johnson Johnson,
2016). If a group reaches this stage and not all members are on board, it may hinder progress.
Once a group has developed cohesiveness, it will truly begin to produce. This phase of effectiveness is
titled performing according to Tuckman s model. At this stage, the group is a problem solving
instrument , capable of working through obstacles and accomplishing goals (Bonebright, 2010, p.
114). Is it not uncommon for groups

Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote s Last Christmas With Sook
A Christmas Memory , an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear
friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930s in a rural southern section of Alabama. Capote recalls
his last Christmas with Sook, who is his sixty something (3) year old cousin who has childlike
tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with
other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind.
However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable
friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with
Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language.
One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make the reader feel
joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware;
we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably this passage is composed by giving the
reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsivity of loud singing. Capote s whimsical
language takes a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23) to illustrate the
feeling of Buddy and Sook s giddiness. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of
dawn splash us like cold water... (36). As a result, his passage allows the reader to feel suddenly
overwhelmed. Capote wants to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the
excitement of not wanting to make waste of any time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel
cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household.
Capote s use of language equally portrays a sense of misery and somberness. For example, during the
whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that
scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic. Notably, in the same passage, the relatives say,
shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord! (24). Above all, these three things are of the
utmost importance to Sook. Her religion, her friendship with Buddy, and her mental

Maritime Silk Road Research Paper
The Maritime Silk Road also played an important historical role. The Han Dynasty s ocean trade
routes reached as far as South Asia. There have been records of trade between the Han Dynasty, the
Persian and Roman empires. These trade accounts were all achieved using these methods or maritime
routes. The imported goods from this route were mainly small ornaments. Later, these sea routes
connected coastal cities. This helped make trade flow more smoothly. Some of the routes also went
through the Strait of Malacca to the Indian Peninsula. China s wealthier class prospered from the
beneficiaries of the luxury products given to them during the Han Dynasty. However, the usage of the
maritime Silk Road was limited for various reasons. Out of the Han Dynasty, there was the
establishment of a shipping lane between Guangdong and India. This helped spread the material
culture of all the countries involved in the intricate routes of the Silk Road. The usage of a maritime
Silk Road encouraged the spread of trade to a more vast area. This can be seen when the routes
extended to the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. It touched the Arab Empire and the East African
coast as well. The Maritime Silk Road had other names as well. It was also known as the Maritime
Chinaware Road. It is interesting because these names reflected the goods that had been transported
there.
The maritime Silk Road had many aspects to its complex self. The Maritime Silk Road, similar to the

Our Town Analysis Essay
Our Town is a play that takes place near the turn of the century in the small rural town of Grover
amp;#8217;s Corners, New Hampshire. The playwright, Thornton Wilder is trying to convey the
importance of the little, often unnoticed things in life. Throughout the first two acts he builds a
scenario, which allows the third act to show that we as humans often run through life oblivious to
what is actually happening. Wilder attempts to show life as something that we take for granted. We do
not realize the true value of living until we are dead and gone. The through line of the action seems to
be attention to the details of life. Wilder builds up a plot that pays attention to great details of living.

Olaudah Equiano And Thomas Jefferson
Plenty of early American authors used religious content or ideas for political purposes. These authors
wanted to change the political world around them through publishing works with religious content.
Two of these writers were Olaudah Equiano and Thomas Jefferson. Equiano and Jefferson crafted
letters and stories that shaped then political climate during early American times that eventually
helped to build a great nation. In the biography of Thomas Jefferson it states that he wished to be
remembered for only three things; drafting the Declaration of Independence, writing and supporting
the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom (1786), and founding the University of Virginia. Fortunate
for him that is what he remembered for to this day. As for Olaudah Equiano, he has caused a great deal
of debate as to where he grew up. There has been evidence to support him growing up in the Carolinas
and there has also been evidence to support him coming from Africa. One thing is certain that he has
produced high quality written material that is read to this day. Thomas Jefferson, born 1743 in
Virginia, was a self made man. He had many activities, such as law, and politics in addition to running

Critical Appraisal Of A Qualitative Research Article
Critical appraisal of a qualitative research article.
The qualitative article being appraised is by Martin and Woods (2012) using the CASP tool qualitative
framework (CASP 2013). These tools have been validated to ensure that studies can be assessed in a
consistent way assessing the trustworthiness of the research article (Aveyard, 2014)
Qualitative research can often be labelled as biased and anecdotal however Anderson (2010) argues
that when carried out rigorously it can be unbiased, in depth and creditable, in fact becoming a leading
research method for evidence based nursing. White (2006) explains that when the research is based on
people s perceptions then qualitative research is appropriate, it aids in developing an understanding for
peoples understanding, feelings values and opinions. Qualitative research seeks to develop
explanations for social trends/events, thus encouraging detail and depth whilst creating openness
(Bamberger, 2000). In addition IVONNE (2004) reasons that qualitative research gives brand new
insights by providing differing ideas on current practices. On the other hand, Abawl (2008) highlights
that data collection can be very time consuming, open to interpretation and consequently influenced
by researcher bias.
CASP sets out a series of questions that can be used to critically appraise qualitative research, and help
to identify if the article contains bias, is relevant and creditable.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the motivation of

Legal Submission of Case in Ireland
Essentially, the case in question is one of criminal liability. However, the issues that must be addressed
are that involving the law of evidence in Ireland. There are many legal issues at play throughout this
case that must be addressed in detail. This submission will outline the law, as it stands to date, in
relation to child witnesses, the presumption of innocence, corroboration and witness competence. It is
essential that the law on each of these issues be analysed and interpreted correctly as Dan s criminal
liability hangs in the balance. It is submitted that the trial judge in this case appears to have erred in
his judgement and these mistakes will be outlined below. Throughout this submission, the law will
then be applied in order to correctly advise Dan in relation to his options and liability.
Part 1
Traditionally, children s evidence was treated as suspect and the judge in such a case was obliged to
give a corroboration warning to the jury. The Supreme Court established this requirement in the case
of People v Casey , when Kingsmill Moore J held that in cases completely or partially dependent on
visual identification evidence, the trial judge should give a general warning to the jury. Kingsmill
Moore J stated that the unsworn evidence of children of tender ... shall not be sufficient to convict of
an offence, unless corroborated by other material evidence implicating the accused This point was
further established in the case of DPP v O Reilly. It was also

Meatpacking System
The food system in the U.S. has changed a lot over these decades. In the past, people grew crops in
their land and vegetables in their gardens. Today, the food system is dominated by the industrial farms
and food companies. The industrial food system prevents us from knowing the food. We do not know
where the food comes from, how it is produced, and what the conditions that animals live in are.
Animals, such as cattle and chickens, are raised in concentrated feedlots where the conditions are
terrible and the space is narrow. When it comes to the meatpacking, we do not know how the animals
are slaughtered, gutted, and skinned. The operations are invisible and conducted behind walls. The
industrial food system aims to produce more food faster and more cheaply. However, it hides lots of
truths, such as its effect on consumers health, the environment, and the society. If there were more
transparency in the food system, the inhumane practice of meatpacking would be reduced; the living
conditions of animals would be improved; fewer fertilizers and pesticides would be used in
agriculture; consumers would have the chance to see how the food is produced and make a wiser
choice of what to eat; and the current industrial food system might be replaced. ... Show more content

actions can force the food system to abandon current unethical and detrimental

The journey in finding our identity and belonging can often be a struggle, since we ask ourselves, who
am I vs. whom do others want me to be? And where do I belong? This point in our live is subjective,
because we want to feel accepted in society we deny ourselves of what we really are. It s hard to have

Elisa Allen In The Chrysanthemums By John Steinbeck
Like a flower, a person s passion and drive can fuel them to bloom when nurtured; when these
interests are neglected, however, they can wilt just as fast. This idea holds true in The
Chrysanthemums, as these flowers are used to represent Elisa Allen throughout the course of the story.
She raises her own garden of chrysanthemums, her labor yielding flowers bigger than anybody around
here (Steinbeck 318). White chrysanthemums, often used as an emblem for loyalty, stand proud in her
garden in result of her efforts. On the other hand, she also raises yellow chrysanthemums, which can
portray neglected love. These two meanings accurately sum up Elisa s situation, as while she is
devoted to Henry and their lives, she is dissatisfied and desires

Christine Pelton Summary
Christine Pelton, a biology instructor in Piper, Kansas, is not a hero in my opinion. As I understand the
story, this teacher has a little more than one hundred and forty biology students. It was stated in the
article that, Nearly one fifth of her biology students had plagiarized... Twenty eight of her students
plagiarized on a final exam. This teacher quit after the school board did not allow her to fail these
twenty eight students. Is this a wake up call to society about the low tolerance of cheating? Is

there be a zero tolerance? Thinking through this article, I have two major thoughts. First, in the

The schooling system is broken when it comes to whether students think learning the content or
receiving a grade is more important. I was talking to my father about this article, and he brought up an
advanced English class at the college he attended. The students who were eligible to take this class
were the most talented and the highest in their class. The professor was presented with a problem. He
did not feel settled grading these talented students in his class according to the bell curve college
classes commonly use. He did not feel right handing out Cs and Bs to these A students. Instead of
grading the students on the curve, the professor gave every kid in the class an A, and turned in their
final grades on the first day. He expected all of the students to show interest, give maximal effort, and
contribute to the class. He understood that they were all talented enough to receive an A. The
professor eliminated any stress a grade would bring to these students, and he allowed them to fully
focus on learning. I understand that a teacher cannot do that in a high school biology class, but there
are ways to prevent cheating and engage learning. This biology teacher may not feel right in allowing
these twenty eight kids to pass, but I believe that she should feel obligated in her heart to stay and
prevent this from happening again. School is about learning about oneself and growing as a person;
school is not about earning a grade and learning biology. This teacher needs to help kids learn about
what is the right thing to do before twenty eight of them

Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae Essay
Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae
Many different interpretations can be derived from themes in Euripides s The Bacchae, most of which
assume that, in order to punish the women of Thebes for their impudence, the god Dionysus drove
them mad. However, there is evidence to believe that another factor played into this confrontation.
Because of the trend of male dominance in Greek society, women suffered in oppression and bore a
social stigma which led to their own vulnerability in becoming Dionysus s target. In essence, the
Thebian women practically fostered Dionysian insanity through their longing to rebel against social
norms. Their debilitating conditions as women prompted them to search for a way to ... Show more

In addition, further proof of women s inferiority is found in The Bacchae when King Pentheus
considers it shameful to disguise himself in women s clothing. Do I have to be demoted to a
woman?...A woman s costume? No, I won t; I can t (Bacchae 50 51). Pentheus s attitude in this
situation attests to the negativity women in Greece were faced with daily.
Under these acute circumstances, it is quite logical to infer that Thebian women were tremendously
dissatisfied with their position in the community. Those confined or isolated undoubtedly yearned for
an escape and found the stigma they bore too much to endure without entertaining a hope for freedom.
Perhaps this is why women were considered more prone to madness, emotional outbursts, and general
lack of control over themselves in Greek society (Source 10). Their hope to emerge from the the
shackles of sexism made the women vulnerable to these manifestations. Dionysus, angry at the
women for their demeaning gossip that challenged his own existence as a god, took advantage of their
vulnerability, seeing it as an opportunity to teach them a lesson that mortals must express due respect
for the immortal. I ve stung them with madness...The whole female seed of Thebes, I ve driven
frenzied out of house and home (Bacchae 4). The fact that he appeared in human form as andrognyous

Clara Machumann Piano Symphony
Robert Schumann (1810 1856) was a Romantic Era composer who composed the Piano Quintet,
Op.44 in 1842. Clara Schumann is said to be the inspiration behind this piece. The Piano Quintet is
seen as not only Robert Schumann s best compositions but is also the best in Western music and
chamber music created during the romantic era. The Piano Quintet is a piece dedicated and inspired by
Clara Schumann, one of the leading pianists of the Romantic Era and Robert Schumann s wife. This
piece incorporates musical signatures with deep significance for the Schumanns (Potter, Naxos.com).
Throughout the piece aspects of Clara are heard that represent both her talent as a piano player and of
her private self that only Robert knew. According to Hans Kohlhase, the quintet commemorates the
painful four and a half years during which Robert and Clara were forbidden by her father to marry

As a result of the Piano Quintet being composed for both a piano quintet and string quartet, a listener
of the piece would be able to feel the emotion that Schumann put into this piece. The contrast of the
piano against the violins really allows the listener to take in the music. The first movement literally
translates to a fast tempo, between allegretto and vivace, and bright/sparkling/brilliant; given this
name the first movement did not disappoint with its lively theme with beautifully placed dynamics.
The second movement is the slower funeral march with a lyrical main theme played by the violin and
cello, and a second theme played by the piano with string accompaniment. The Scherzo utilizes the
chromatic scale to re engage listeners after the slower second movement. The finale movement
magnificently makes a call back to the theme of the first movement, thus bring the whole piece

The Life And Opinions Of Tristram Shandy, Sisband
Writing, when properly managed, (as you may be sure I think mine is) is but a different name for a
conversation (87; vol. II, ch. XI), states the narrator Tristram Shandy in Laurence Sterne s novel, The
Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Indeed, the distinctive writing style of the novel
may make one feel reminded of a real conversation due to the many interruptions and digressions,
which are typical of human face to face interaction and which occasionally make it more difficult for
the reader to follow the storyline.
Following the above depicted statement, Tristram proceeds by maintaining that the truest respect

in terms of how they are dealt with. In order to achieve this, the analysis will be confined to only three
visual elements, namely asterisks, dashes, and gaps because they are the most common ones. Although
literary researchers have already examined these particular visual elements, they have not done so in
terms of their recipients. For my analysis, it is important to distinguish between the narratee, the
implied reader, and the actual reader: According to Jahn, the narratee is the narrator s fictional
addressee (cf. N1.5.); the implied reader, as already mentioned above, is a text s overall projection of a
reader role, superordinate to any narratee (N2.3.2.), which means that he is e.g. able to understand the
function of all visual elements in the novel and handles them perfectly; Which is, according to Iser,
influenced by his former experience (cf. Der Akt des Lesens 66). The actual reader, consequently, does
not necessarily have this experience and might struggle during the reading

The Ballad Of The White Horse
In The Ballad of the White Horse by G. K. Chesterton one of the main characters is King Alfred of
England, the legendary savior of England from the invading Danes. The book is set in the ninth
century AD. He is accompanied in battle by Eldred, a Saxon farmer, as well as Mark, a Roman, and
Colan, a Celt. While Alfred originally feels despair over his efforts to drive away the Danes, the
Blessed Virgin Mary appears to him in a vision and tells him that he is to continue. G. K. Chesterton
named the book after a symbol in England, a white horse cut out chalk that must constantly be cleaned
of encroaching weeds. To him, it symbolizes Christianity s struggle against eroding pagan forces. The
ballad questions and discusses the opposing worldviews ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One group of Danes, represented by Harold, went into battle and conquered in the hopes of gaining
earthly pleasures, without regard for others. Another group, represented by Elf, kept alive the old tales
of the gods, but despaired at the real presence of sin and inevitable destruction. Taking a dark spin on
this, Ogier believes in total destruction and hatred of creation as the forces that drive the world.
Guthrum rejects all three views, but does not know what to replace them with, revealing his lack of
understanding of the meaning of life. However, Alfred answers all three views in his harp song of the
Christian worldview. Harold s false pleasures are compared to the simple joy of the monk and Elf s
despair is opposed to the perseverance and ultimate hope of the Christians though defeated. In
addition, Ogier s idea of hatred of creation as the driving force of the universe is disproved by Alfred
quoting God calling creation good, and he is told that this destruction will lead to an end of the Danes,
because only Christians will protect civilization. King Alfred s song also compares King Guthrum to
himself, stating that

After I took the Major Life Events Stress assessment, my score came out to be 135. Personally, I feel

The Conflicted Linda Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Watching a solitary blade of grass will never tell you the direction of hurricane, just as one

between guilt, retaliation, and pity. Her guilt stems from the fact that she prevented Willy from

Willy undermines her authority with the boys. He denies any negative comments out of her mouth
when their children are discussed. He interrupts her. He shouts at her. Linda reacts with veiled hostility
to Willy?s disrespect. She laughs at the idea of planting a garden, pointing to Willy?s past failures at
growing a garden. Every time Linda pokes at his failures, she is retaliating against Willy?s failures and
the fact that she has been pulled into Willy?s dead end dream against her will.
When Linda refers to Willy as a little boat looking for a harbor, another wind blows against Linda,
pushing her to act with pity (1247). To her, he is nothing more than a small, helpless old man. She
blames the business for forgetting Willy in his old age, and passing him over like an orange peel.
Toward the end of Act I, Linda presents a sorry image of Willy, describing his past greatness as a
salesman and ending with a sad description of treachery. She tells her sons that Willy is exhausted
from driving 1400 miles without earning a penny, and that his reward from the ones he loved the most,
his sons, is spite and rejection (1237). The picture she paints of her husband is on filled with pity and
sorrow.

Theoretical Framework of the Study
As seen in the previous literature, much of the empirical research in the last twenty years has focused
on documenting the positive student outcomes associated with service learning. Despite this focus,
only few studies have also explored the role individual characteristics play in participation in such
outcomes. Susan Jones (2002), for example, finds that the student s ability to actively participate in all
aspects of her/his service learning experience depends on the intersection of the student s own
background. . . , developmental readiness for such a learning experience, and the privileging
conditions that put a college student in a community service organization as a volunteer in the first
place (p. 13). Accordingly, different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her conceptualization of student resistance to service learning through the critical developmental
lens, Jones also considers the critical whiteness theory. Frankenberg (1993) describes Whiteness as
multidimensional: First, whiteness is a location of structural advantage, of race privilege. Second, it is
a standpoint and place from which white people look at ourselves, at others, and at society. Third,
whiteness refers to a set of cultural practices that are usually unmarked and unnamed (p. 1). Although
whiteness has intangible systems of oppression, inequality, and unearned advantage that are not
necessary seen, heard, or felt; they reproduce and support the idea that being white is the ideal racial
identity. Butin (2005) examines the dynamics of whiteness and the extent to which student resistance
is conceptualized as occurring due to dominant students rejection of the exposure and analysis of these
same hidden and/or explicit social, cultural, and academic structures and practices of the school that
privilege and sustains white, middle class norms (p. 117). As such, addressing the dynamics of social
inequalities through readings, classroom discussions, and community service visits may confront
students with their conditions of privilege, as well as with new epistemologies that do not necessarily
resonate with students previous knowledge of the world. These

The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock By T. S.
The realistic narrative of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock as told by T. S. Eliot invited readers
into the mind of an old man as he struggled against the social norm created by the new youth. As the
eternal footman (Eliot 720) approached the aging, but relatable man, Prufrock began to question the
world around him that was changed by the youth, but he failed to change with society, creating the
mental prison he cannot escape. Since The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock had modernism in mind
Prufrock was a character that anyone should be able to connect with even if the reader is younger than
Prufrock. For example, has the story progressed Prufrock asked questions such as What is it? (Eliot
718), Do I dare? (Eliot 719), and How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He never explicitly explained his past because if Eliot had him talk about his specific past, then he
would become less relatable to the reader, but the reader can take hints of Prufrock s/their age as they
say in pretend dialogue with a woman, How his hair is growing thin! and But how his arms and legs
are thin! and with a bald spot in the middle of my hair (Eliot 719) giving us the idea that he was aging
but still young enough to not be married and still looking for love. Most important however was how
Prufrock/the reader debate on whether he should part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach? I shall
wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach (Eliot 721). Prufrock/the reader were trying to
decide whether he should accept his old age and give in to the new society or if he should disturb the
universe (Eliot 719) and fight against the new society and live the way he wants to and not the life
society had given him. It was this struggle that created the story, but the item that separated it from the
reader was that Prufrock s decision was given the definitive answer that he was forced to give into
society s demands because he [does] not think that they will sing to [him] (Eliot 722). Prufrock
struggled and fought against society, but lost to its social norms.
T. S. Eliot s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock told the story of a man struggling against
society. However, he was more than a man because Prufrock was actually a reflection of the reader
and the life that they faced or the life that they will face in the future. Prufrock/the reader asked many
questions, but only the reader can decide whether they will succeed in denying social norms unlike

Chemical Properties And Its Effects
From introduction
Lead and zinc are heavy metals which are most commonly found at the same work place. Both these
metals have unique physical and chemical properties that make them suitable for great variety of
applications. Because of high persistence of lead and its use since ancient times for industrial
purposes, Lead has become common environmental and occupational contaminant widely distributed
throughout the world. Even though the toxic effects of lead and its compounds have been investigated
for many years, the data existing with regard to its mutagenic, clastogenic and carcinogenic properties
still shows significant variations.
Lead poisoning was very important during the 16th and 19th centuries due to its widespread use in
pottery, pipes, boat building, manufacture of windows, arms industry, pigments and printing of books.
Many of these uses declined or disappeared throughout the 19th century, but also introduced new
ones. Its use was increased tremendously because of its applications for improving the octane rating of
gasoline by the addition of tetraethyl lead. Further its uses like that in glass containers for cooking or
the use of paint with lead compounds, the manufacturing of lead storage batteries etc., have further
increase its uses. In present times zinc and lead are two of the most common heavy metals released
from road travel, accounting for at least 90 percent of the total metals in road runoff.
Upon examining potential hazards of lead, variable results

Examples Of Polite Language In The Giver
Just for a second, imagine a world without war, conflict or grief. Refreshing, right? But it s also a
world without memory, feelings and color, at least in the premise of Lois Lowry s, The Giver. It was
published by HarperCollins in 1993, it shares the same motive of a perfect and utopian society. What
is a perfect society? Is it where people have to be uniform to each other? What is the point having such
a life where you cannot make your own choices?, you cannot have feelings or unable to live with your
own biological parents. There is one thing about the community in the giver, it is very well organized
and no possible war. This is because each member of the community is trained to be polite from
childhood. So therefore everyone uses polite language, we call it Euphemism ... Show more content

A task or piece of work allocated to someone as part of a job or course of study(Oxford Dictionaries |

If You Are Looking For A Boston Hotel To Stay At Then You
If you are looking for a Boston hotel to stay at then you should read this review of the Lenox Hotel.
The Lenox Hotel is actually one of the nicer hotels in Boston that you can stay at. At the same time,
the Lenox Hotel is also one of the cheaper Boston hotels that you can stay at. The average nightly rate
for staying at the Leon Hotel in Boston is slightly under $200 a night. The Lenox Hotel is also one of
the most conveniently located hotels in Boston. This Boston hotel is located one block away from
Copley Square as well as the shops along Newbury Street. The Hynes Convention Center and Trinity

I recently stayed at the Denver Warwick hotel for a business meeting and was very pleased with the
entire experience! I will start off and mention the small gripes I have, one of which is how far this
place is from the airport. I suppose that is to be expected since it is in Downtown Denver, and
Colorado is definitely a vast area (this was my first visit out there...) but the $65 ride from the airport
was a sting! The other thing I found to be a little odd was that there was no ATM in the hotel. We
needed cash to be able to pay our car driver back to the airport, and had to go across the street to one
(which ended up being out of service) so that was a little inconvenient, but our driver was kind and
helped us find one nearby. Beyond those two things, the stay at the Warwick was nothing but positive.
I was given a junior suite that was also handicapped accessible, and it was perfect. There was a very
comfortable king bed, a big flat screen TV, a little sitting area upon entering and a desk/office area
with plenty of outlets to plug in electronics! The wireless access was $10 a day, but for a flawless high
speed, connection, it was well worth it The bathroom was absolutely beautiful and very good sized!
Not only was there a roll in shower with a showerhead that could be lowered, but there was also a
bathtub (that was lower than average so it was easier to step in and out of) with yet another

Analysis Of Fagles s Antigone
While Ismene s language relies heavily upon a Northern Irish dialect, differences between Paulin s
Ismene and Fagles go further. In Fagles s Antigone, Ismene is a voice of reason in contrast to her rash
and hot headed sister. She advocates prudence as sensible . Paulin s work offers an Ismene translated
not only linguistically but also in personality. As this Ismene warns Antigone, she thinks only of the
punishment. Her concern is not that the two would defy the state but that they would die and in a most
unpleasant manner. Her speech emphasizes the concern for them rather than the state as she stresses
how we ll die and repeatedly speaks of what will happen to us . These lines clearly mark a point at
which Paulin chose fidelity to Ismene s Irishness over fidelity to Sophocles s politics. However, these
lines also raise questions about the nature of Irishness. Is Ismene s rational response, in the original,
inherently un Irish and untranslatable into an Irish context? And, if so, is Paulin suggesting here that
the Irish are the overly emotional and hot blooded people that stereotypes have made them out to be?
More than a simple substitution of standard English for Irish English, Paulin s translation raises such
questions throughout. As he translates, Paulin displaces Irishness, removing it from a familiar context
defined by Irish/English dichotomies, character stereotypes, and the trite settings and practices
expected of conventional Irish plays.

Teaching Will Be Very Proactive And Flexible During The...
Teaching will be very untraditional and flexible during the unit on energy. The students all have
multiple disabilities and are in a self contained setting most of the day. These disabilities impact all
three students academics and behaviors. Lesson planning for this unit was and will continue to be
strategic and complicated. In order for students to grasp each concept, the concept must be broken
down into smaller concepts. Each lesson will have to be well paced, where each lesson does not go too
fast and cause students to be overwhelmed and stressed or to slow and cause boredom or irritation.
The lessons will include a few accommodations that include many visuals and graphics and the
teacher candidate will sometimes write for the students for the writing assignments. According to
student data from the pre assessment, one student is quite knowledgeable in some of the concepts
related to energy. The teacher had to take this in account when planning to ensure the student stays
engaged and does not become bored. Loss of engagement can easily and quickly turn in to
misbehaviors and escalations. To further enrich this student and the others when they do grasp a
concept easily, the teacher candidate planned enrichment activities that went more in depth or fostered
critical thinking that students could complete after they have completed their assignments that were
given first. The unit will be taught over a period of 2 3 weeks. Depending on students engagement

Stratospheric Ozone Depletion and Its Effect on Skin...
Introduction
This term paper is situated in an area of specific health related and environmental concern: the human
dimensions of global change. For about a decade now there has been growing scientific interest in the
global environmental changes resulting from anthropogenic activity. However most of this research
has focused on the scientific bases of environmental transformations with little attention to how
human social responses are linked to global change. As a result, scientists and researchers alike are
beginning to ask questions about the symbiotic relationship between human well being and physical
change.

In general, the incidence of non melanoma and malignant melanoma skin cancer has increased
significantly over the past few decades, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United
Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries. This large outbreak has intrigued researchers into examining
the relationship of the growing risk of skin cancer to increases in ground level UV B radiation due to
ozone depletion.
According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and
the US Government, human influenced ozone depletion may peak around 1998
and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid latitude countries of the Northern
Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6 7% relative to ozone
concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels.
Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence
The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of ozone
depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and its
associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business as
Usual curve); (2) reduced production of five ozone depleting chemicals by 50 percent by 1999 (under

An Education Is More Important
An Education is More Important In the world, there are over a thousand professional athletes. There
are only a handful of these player that have a four year college education. The National Football
League (NFL); they draft two hundred and fifty six college athletes. Hickman stated that five out of
ten NFL players have a college degree. This is one of the higher percentage for professional athletes
having a college degree. To declare for the NFL a player must complete two years of college football.
This rule pushes athletes to get classes at a college, but does not give them a full education. The
National Basketball Association (NBA) is like the NFL, but different in ways. The NBA draft only has
two round and thirty picks. That means each team gets two picks. An athlete must play one year of
college basketball before entering the NBA draft. Since this rule has been enforced; the one and done
players has been a problem. One and done means, A great basketball player will only stay one year
with their college team; Then he will enter the draft the next year. This is leaving NBA player with
only one year of college education. Hickman stated twenty one percent of the NBA has a full College
education. The MLB (Major League Baseball Association) is one of the worst at athletes having a full
college education. There are thirty two major league teams. Each major league team has six minor
league teams in their association. With each team having around forty players; that consumes

Colonial Apothecaries Essay
Colonial Research Project
Sarah Kong
February 26, 2018
Apothecary; noun a person who prepared and sold medicine and drugs. Have you ever wondered what
came before doctors? That kind of occupation was for apothecaries. I chose this particular job for my
research project because apothecaries use a lot of interesting objects, and were way different than
present day doctors and pharmacists.
In Europe, folks who were selling wine, spices, and herbs were known as apothecaries. They prepared
and sold medicine directly to patients. Apothecaries also gave out medical advice and sold out many
different products.
Colonial apothecaries practiced as doctors, made house calls to treat patients, provided medical
treatment, prescribed medicine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are very similar. Both used chalk for heartburn, calamine for skin irritations, and cinchona bark
for fevers. Later, apothecaries found out that cinchona bark contained quinine for malaria, and
quinidine for cardiac problems. But medical treatment was very expensive, so that led to the colonists
to self diagnose and treat their own problems.
Medical treatment was expensive and people frequently diagnose themselves, and the way they treated
themselves was (1. The remedy was passed down from tradition, (2. They were guided by folklore, or
(3. by books. To cure headaches, for example, the colonists often used a remedy that contained roses
and vinegar. The rose petals are steeped into vinegar, and then they were applied topically.
In some trades, the apothecaries skill and knowledge were secret, and little about them were published
in books. For apothecaries and surgeons, there were textbooks, and many of them survived. The
National Library of Medicine, the nation s largest medical library, published a bibliography of the
eighteenth century books in its collection. Most of the 501 pages are titles of things such as medical
theory, midwifery, pharmacy, surgery, and diseases. Apothecaries were crucial to

  • 2. Stolen Generation Assimilation The assimilation policy that removed Australian Indigenous children or children of Indigenous descent from aboriginal communities began in the late 1800s. This formally ceased in the 1970s but some would argue that it continues to this day. This essay will present evidence including the stolen aboriginal children s experiences in life and what changed in their life from when they were home to where they were taken. It is hypothesised that the Stolen Generations have had a live much tougher than most and should be fully reconciled for the damage done by the Government. It will also examine the Government s roles have been and how they have changed from during the period of stolen generations to their current standpoint on the reparations of the stolen generation. Due to the belief that an aboriginal child that was not full blood or looked caucasian enough to be brought up and raised as a white child, around 10 000 aboriginal children were forcibly removed from their families and ... For example, confidential evidence to the Bringing Them Home Report (UNHRC, 1997) states that They put us in the police ute and said they were taking us to Broome (Confidential Evidence Bringing Them Home Report 1997). This shows that the police force was used by the Government to take the children away. The story of Murray and Penny (Bringing Them Home Report 1997) shows an insight to how some members of the stolen generation were treated in Australia, specifically in Queensland. • 3. The Brief And Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao Analysis Objectification: the action of degrading someone to the status of a mere object. The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is a novel on the adolescent years of a Dominican boy named Oscar De Leon [who later is referred to as Oscar Wao]. Adolescence are the years of massive change, physically and emotionally, which leads to new feelings of excitement. In Dominican culture, men have supremacy over women and the only way a woman can establish their authority and value is through their sexuality. In terms of hegemonic sexuality, the dominant group propagates the idea that males and females should have specific body types with proportioned sex characteristics, (Wilson 1) Throughout the entire novel, women are always having sex or are described ... Evangelical Liberal And Neo-Orthodox Research Paper The Place of Scripture in Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo Orthodox Thought The nature and authority of Scripture is approached differently in reference to the three theological movements in church history, known as Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo orthodox. Because of these differences in thought, scripture takes on a different meaning for each movement. The nature and authority of Scripture will be discussed with each of the three theological movements; Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo orthodox. The Issues Evangelicals view the Holy Scriptures, both old testament and new testament, as the perfect word of God. They rebuilt roads, got farms operating once again, and built schools for African American children and adults. Eventually the economy in the South began to recover. Reconstruction was a period of repair after the civil war. Freed African Americans were protected by the government during reconstruction by the Freedmen s Bureau, despite the South s bitterness towards the new changes. Overall, reconstruction was positive because it brought many affirmative changes for African Americans. First of all, the actions taken by the government to ensure that Freedmen in the South were protected during the reconstruction was the establishment of the Freedmen s Bureau. The Freedmen s Bureau was established in March 1865, which helped African Americans achieve economic stability and secure political freedoms. Some of the things the Freedmen s Bureau did was ensure that the former slaves earned fair and equal wages. Thus, it created specific courts to settle disputes between black workers and white employers. In addition to this, the Freedmen s Bureau established schools for African Americans. By 1870, two hundred fifty thousand African American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An increasing number of Southern whites began to respond in violence to the revolutionary changes made during reconstruction, such as the change in the South s economy. • 6. Reasons Why Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid For... Division 1 and Division 2 colleges provide over 2.9 billion dollars a year in scholarships to student athletes. Student athletes should not be compensated for participating in college sports. College athletes can receive full ride scholarships for playing their sport of choice. Is the 40,000 dollars they are receiving in scholarships not compensation; thus prompting the question is the top tier education they are being provided with, not compensation enough? Most of the thousands of students that participate in college sports compete for the love of the game, not for a paycheck. Furthermore, college athletes understand that they may not compete at the pro level, in fact, only 2 % of college athletes go on to play professionally. The main part of the term student athletes is student. Students do not go to college expecting a check at the end of every month or to land a spot in the first round of the draft, instead the purpose is to receive an education. All things considered, student athletes should not receive compensation for playing sports in college because it would be almost financially impossible, some are already provided with money from scholarships , and finally they are being provided with an excellent higher education. Some say colleges should pay athletes because it s a full time job, scholarships aren t enough, not all players get scholarships or because the NCAA and universities make money off of the sports teams and players. In your answer you should focus on how Juliet would be presented in this scene and how the scene would be acted? Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play, which embodies the true spirit of love and destiny. The play shows fate, premonition, violence and vengeance while two lovers pine for each other. It shows how love can be over powering which would supersede all other values and loyalties. Lovers are forced to dissent their entire social world, e.g. when Romeo leaves his friends to see Juliet and when Juliet says that she may no longer be a Capulet. It highlights how some traditional families can enforce their traditions on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way royal families lived in China was very similar to the way the Capulets and Montagues lived, as there were always rivals e.g. one royal family of a country against another and the Capulets against the Montagues. The living lifestyle of China was very conservative. Women were not treated equal, they were segregated from society, and they did not have the privilege to vote, work in a high position etc. Women were undermined and were controlled by men [father, brother/s and husbands ]. They were forbidden to talk in public or in the presence of men; they were merely present to obey with what the men demanded. The way women were portrayed then was similar to how Lady Capulet was treated by her husband. From the way Lady Capulet reacted to certain situations we could tell that she felt unequal and powerless [the way women were portrayed then], as she immediately involved her husband in difficult situations Here comes your father; tell him so yourself , she avoided confrontation, as she was not familiar on what to do, as the men were always in control of situations like this. • 8. Sexism in Susan Glaspell s A Jury of Her Peers Essay In Susan Glaspell s A Jury of Her Peers, Minnie Foster is accused of killing her husband. This accusation forces Mrs. Peters to choose between the law and her inner feelings. Her husband is the sheriff of Dickenson County, Iowa. It has always been a small, quiet town where nothing really happens. Mrs. Peters is faced with an internal struggle. On one side, she is married to the law and on the other side she understands what Minnie has been through. Her husband used to mentally abuse her to the point where she is now basically secluded from everyone and everything in the world. Mr. Hale even makes the comment, Though I said at the same time that I didn t know as what his wife wanted made much difference to John (260). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The worst part of it all is that she had a little pet bird that she treated like her own child and John Wright has killed by wringing its neck. She has nothing to love or care for and definitely has no one to love and care for her in the way she so desperately needs. When John Wright kills her only friend that brings her happiness, her little bird, she has to kill him. Minnie always had friends and loved life until this man kept her away from it. Minnie has every right in the world to kill her husband. Glaspell also gives the impression that all men are jerks. For example, the men constantly make fun of the women and put them down for everything they do or do not do. In the beginning of the story the men complained of dirty towels when Minnie is in jail and has not even been home to clean up (264). Even though many men may be like that, not all men are. These types of men are the ones who give the rest of the gender a bad name. Glaspell was not at fault by making some men look bad, but she could have put at least one man in the story who was kind and understanding. In the story, she makes every man look like a jerk. By doing that, Glaspell basically says that is how all men are and that they cannot and will not be sensitive or be able to understand women in any way, shape or form. She is wrong. She does not give men enough credit. There are plenty of men who are sensitive and Glaspell refuses to show that side of the male gender. Mrs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Cooking Mistakes Happen Every Day At My House Essay Cooking mistakes happen every day at my house. I am either chasing a wild toddler, feeding a hungry baby, or preoccupied with another activity to watch my food constantly. Cooking is in every aspect of life: meal time, family get togethers, parties, holidays, celebrations, etc. No matter how much you love or despise the activity, everyone cooks at some time during their life. Here are 4 common cooking blunders and the solutions to make the food edible. Burned Food Around our household, burned food is the most common mistake. I always get preoccupied with some other task, and the edges of our meal always get burned. The best way to solve this problem is to transfer any unburned food to a separate pan. Then, set the new pan in cold water to prevent the burned flavor and stop anymore cooking. Once the food cools, the only way to remove the burned flavor completely is to cover the food with a slightly damp towel for 3 minutes. Sticky Food Have you ever made rice or pasta and it all clumped together? The best way to solve this cooking problem is to run the food under hot water for about 30 seconds. Fried food also has the problem of sticking together. You do not want to run water over the fried food. Instead, set the pan in cold water and gently un stick the pieces from each other with a flexible spatula. Food That is Too Salty I am a big fan of salt, so when I believe there is too much salt in a particular dish, we have problems. Soups are notorious for being too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The hike has snowy parts and hot sunny parts. The book A Walk in the Woods, was wrote by Bill Bryson. He tries to take on the storm with a friend named Katz. He remembers battling a deceitful snow storm without knowing where he was or if he was going to get out. Bryson makes a mood of imagery and adventure. Imagery is when an author appeals to the readers 5 senses: taste, feel, smell, and hear. Bryson makes it so we can see his senses through his writing, through his descriptions. • 11. Psychology Of Fear Many individuals would agree that at least one thing terrifies them. In fact, there is a whole television series based on what strange phobias people have. These fears or phobias can range from anything consisting of being terrified of the dark, to being petrified to simply stand next to a person. People often wonder what causes a fear. One unique theory as to why these fears develop, is that they are the effect of a traumatic event that took place in the person s life. In addition, another philosophy is that fear is the body s natural defense to danger. Whatever the cause may be, fear has the gift to maintain a person s safety or the capability to render a person s life miserable. Yet, why is something so nourishing also, the same factor that terrorizes me. Water was not always a fear that I possessed, after all I spent a majority of my summer days at our local swimming pool. Nothing could possibly compare to being surrounded by cold water on a hot summer day except, maybe the smell that filled the atmosphere. The air was thick with the scents of chlorine, sunscreen, and maybe even the occasional evidence of baby oil. Generally speaking, Ameriprise has three areas: traditional products, global products, and multi asset strategies and solutions. But the biggest obstacle is speaking to women about these areas because many women lack the knowledge of financial planning. This lack of financial planning is especially concerning because many women face unique challenges in preparing for retirement like lower earning power and more time spent out of the workforce to be a caregiver. Women also neglect to express more concern than men about the obstacles they may face in retirement. For example, one of the most prominent of these hurdles for women is longevity on average, women outlive men. The average life expectancy for American women is about 80 years (compared to 75 years for men), yet 24% of women underestimate the years they ll need to tap into their ... A Group Is A Leadership and the Life Cycle of a Group A group is a living thing, developing over time and adapting to the environment and expectations imposed upon it as it grows. When observed carefully, a pattern of distinct phases emerge in this growth process. It is important to recognize and take advantage of these various stages of development in order to maximize group effectiveness and efficiency. There are several different models for small group development, but Tuckman s model is probably the most famous sequential stage theory (Johnson Johnson, 2016, p.27). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of great value at this stage is encouragement and patience. The reason for the conflict is generally insecurity (Bonebright, 2010, p. 114), so providing a strong support system an reassurance can help move a group to the next phase. As members of the group begin to feel safe and secure, the conflict will settle and the group will develop a bond and unified goals. Labeled a period of norming, it is characterized by close relationships and cohesiveness (Group Development, 2003). In fact, this stage is so characterized by relationship that it could almost be viewed as a honeymoon phase. Group members will frequently set aside differences and unity becomes a priority. It is important at this stage to emphasize honesty and creativity because the group will likely be trying so hard to be amenable that some members may hold back. Others will be ready to open up given their newfound sense of security within the group. This is also a critical time for the group because it typically delineates a time to commit (Johnson Johnson, 2016). If a group reaches this stage and not all members are on board, it may hinder progress. Once a group has developed cohesiveness, it will truly begin to produce. • 18. Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote s Last Christmas With Sook A Christmas Memory , an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930s in a rural southern section of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is his sixty something (3) year old cousin who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind. However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language. One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make the reader feel joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably this passage is composed by giving the reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsivity of loud singing. Capote s whimsical language takes a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23) to illustrate the feeling of Buddy and Sook s giddiness. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of dawn splash us like cold water... (36). As a result, his passage allows the reader to feel suddenly overwhelmed. Capote wants to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the excitement of not wanting to make waste of any time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household. Capote s use of language equally portrays a sense of misery and somberness. For example, during the whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic. Notably, in the same passage, the relatives say, shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord! (24). Above all, these three things are of the utmost importance to Sook. • 19. Maritime Silk Road Research Paper The Maritime Silk Road also played an important historical role. The Han Dynasty s ocean trade routes reached as far as South Asia. There have been records of trade between the Han Dynasty, the Persian and Roman empires. These trade accounts were all achieved using these methods or maritime routes. The imported goods from this route were mainly small ornaments. Later, these sea routes connected coastal cities. This helped make trade flow more smoothly. Some of the routes also went through the Strait of Malacca to the Indian Peninsula. China s wealthier class prospered from the beneficiaries of the luxury products given to them during the Han Dynasty. However, the usage of the maritime Silk Road was limited for various reasons. Out of the Han Dynasty, there was the establishment of a shipping lane between Guangdong and India. This helped spread the material culture of all the countries involved in the intricate routes of the Silk Road. The usage of a maritime Silk Road encouraged the spread of trade to a more vast area. This can be seen when the routes extended to the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. It touched the Arab Empire and the East African coast as well. The Maritime Silk Road had other names as well. Today, the food system is dominated by the industrial farms and food companies. The industrial food system prevents us from knowing the food. We do not know where the food comes from, how it is produced, and what the conditions that animals live in are. Animals, such as cattle and chickens, are raised in concentrated feedlots where the conditions are terrible and the space is narrow. When it comes to the meatpacking, we do not know how the animals are slaughtered, gutted, and skinned. The operations are invisible and conducted behind walls. The industrial food system aims to produce more food faster and more cheaply. However, it hides lots of truths, such as its effect on consumers health, the environment, and the society. If there were more transparency in the food system, the inhumane practice of meatpacking would be reduced; the living conditions of animals would be improved; fewer fertilizers and pesticides would be used in agriculture; consumers would have the chance to see how the food is produced and make a wiser choice of what to eat; and the current industrial food system might be replaced. ... Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae Essay Repression of Women in Euripides The Bacchae Many different interpretations can be derived from themes in Euripides s The Bacchae, most of which assume that, in order to punish the women of Thebes for their impudence, the god Dionysus drove them mad. However, there is evidence to believe that another factor played into this confrontation. Because of the trend of male dominance in Greek society, women suffered in oppression and bore a social stigma which led to their own vulnerability in becoming Dionysus s target. In essence, the Thebian women practically fostered Dionysian insanity through their longing to rebel against social norms. Under these acute circumstances, it is quite logical to infer that Thebian women were tremendously dissatisfied with their position in the community. Those confined or isolated undoubtedly yearned for an escape and found the stigma they bore too much to endure without entertaining a hope for freedom. Perhaps this is why women were considered more prone to madness, emotional outbursts, and general lack of control over themselves in Greek society (Source 10). Their hope to emerge from the the shackles of sexism made the women vulnerable to these manifestations. Dionysus, angry at the women for their demeaning gossip that challenged his own existence as a god, took advantage of their vulnerability, seeing it as an opportunity to teach them a lesson that mortals must express due respect for the immortal. According to Hans Kohlhase, the quintet commemorates the painful four and a half years during which Robert and Clara were forbidden by her father to marry (qtd. in Potter). As a result of the Piano Quintet being composed for both a piano quintet and string quartet, a listener of the piece would be able to feel the emotion that Schumann put into this piece. The contrast of the piano against the violins really allows the listener to take in the music. The first movement literally translates to a fast tempo, between allegretto and vivace, and bright/sparkling/brilliant; given this name the first movement did not disappoint with its lively theme with beautifully placed dynamics. The second movement is the slower funeral march with a lyrical main theme played by the violin and cello, and a second theme played by the piano with string accompaniment. The Scherzo utilizes the chromatic scale to re engage listeners after the slower second movement. The finale movement magnificently makes a call back to the theme of the first movement, thus bring the whole piece ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Life And Opinions Of Tristram Shandy, Sisband Writing, when properly managed, (as you may be sure I think mine is) is but a different name for a conversation (87; vol. II, ch. XI), states the narrator Tristram Shandy in Laurence Sterne s novel, The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Indeed, the distinctive writing style of the novel may make one feel reminded of a real conversation due to the many interruptions and digressions, which are typical of human face to face interaction and which occasionally make it more difficult for the reader to follow the storyline. Following the above depicted statement, Tristram proceeds by maintaining that the truest respect which you can pay to the reader s understanding is to halve this matter amicably, and leave him something to imagine, ... In order to achieve this, the analysis will be confined to only three visual elements, namely asterisks, dashes, and gaps because they are the most common ones. Although literary researchers have already examined these particular visual elements, they have not done so in terms of their recipients. For my analysis, it is important to distinguish between the narratee, the implied reader, and the actual reader: According to Jahn, the narratee is the narrator s fictional addressee (cf. N1.5.); the implied reader, as already mentioned above, is a text s overall projection of a reader role, superordinate to any narratee (N2.3.2.), which means that he is e.g. able to understand the function of all visual elements in the novel and handles them perfectly; Which is, according to Iser, influenced by his former experience (cf. Der Akt des Lesens 66). The actual reader, consequently, does not necessarily have this experience and might struggle during the reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Ballad Of The White Horse In The Ballad of the White Horse by G. K. Chesterton one of the main characters is King Alfred of England, the legendary savior of England from the invading Danes. The book is set in the ninth century AD. He is accompanied in battle by Eldred, a Saxon farmer, as well as Mark, a Roman, and Colan, a Celt. While Alfred originally feels despair over his efforts to drive away the Danes, the Blessed Virgin Mary appears to him in a vision and tells him that he is to continue. G. K. Another group, represented by Elf, kept alive the old tales of the gods, but despaired at the real presence of sin and inevitable destruction. Taking a dark spin on this, Ogier believes in total destruction and hatred of creation as the forces that drive the world. Guthrum rejects all three views, but does not know what to replace them with, revealing his lack of understanding of the meaning of life. However, Alfred answers all three views in his harp song of the Christian worldview. Harold s false pleasures are compared to the simple joy of the monk and Elf s despair is opposed to the perseverance and ultimate hope of the Christians though defeated. In addition, Ogier s idea of hatred of creation as the driving force of the universe is disproved by Alfred quoting God calling creation good, and he is told that this destruction will lead to an end of the Danes, because only Christians will protect civilization. Theoretical Framework of the Study As seen in the previous literature, much of the empirical research in the last twenty years has focused on documenting the positive student outcomes associated with service learning. Despite this focus, only few studies have also explored the role individual characteristics play in participation in such outcomes. Susan Jones (2002), for example, finds that the student s ability to actively participate in all aspects of her/his service learning experience depends on the intersection of the student s own background. . . , developmental readiness for such a learning experience, and the privileging conditions that put a college student in a community service organization as a volunteer in the first place (p. 13). Accordingly, different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her conceptualization of student resistance to service learning through the critical developmental lens, Jones also considers the critical whiteness theory. Frankenberg (1993) describes Whiteness as multidimensional: First, whiteness is a location of structural advantage, of race privilege. Second, it is a standpoint and place from which white people look at ourselves, at others, and at society. Third, whiteness refers to a set of cultural practices that are usually unmarked and unnamed (p. 1). Although whiteness has intangible systems of oppression, inequality, and unearned advantage that are not necessary seen, heard, or felt; they reproduce and support the idea that being white is the ideal racial identity. Butin (2005) examines the dynamics of whiteness and the extent to which student resistance is conceptualized as occurring due to dominant students rejection of the exposure and analysis of these same hidden and/or explicit social, cultural, and academic structures and practices of the school that privilege and sustains white, middle class norms (p. 117). As such, addressing the dynamics of social inequalities through readings, classroom discussions, and community service visits may confront students with their conditions of privilege, as well as with new epistemologies that do not necessarily resonate with students previous knowledge of the world. • 42. The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock By T. S. The realistic narrative of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock as told by T. S. Eliot invited readers into the mind of an old man as he struggled against the social norm created by the new youth. As the eternal footman (Eliot 720) approached the aging, but relatable man, Prufrock began to question the world around him that was changed by the youth, but he failed to change with society, creating the mental prison he cannot escape. Since The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock had modernism in mind Prufrock was a character that anyone should be able to connect with even if the reader is younger than Prufrock. He never explicitly explained his past because if Eliot had him talk about his specific past, then he would become less relatable to the reader, but the reader can take hints of Prufrock s/their age as they say in pretend dialogue with a woman, How his hair is growing thin! and But how his arms and legs are thin! and with a bald spot in the middle of my hair (Eliot 719) giving us the idea that he was aging but still young enough to not be married and still looking for love. Most important however was how Prufrock/the reader debate on whether he should part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach? I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach (Eliot 721). Prufrock/the reader were trying to decide whether he should accept his old age and give in to the new society or if he should disturb the universe (Eliot 719) and fight against the new society and live the way he wants to and not the life society had given him. It was this struggle that created the story, but the item that separated it from the reader was that Prufrock s decision was given the definitive answer that he was forced to give into society s demands because he [does] not think that they will sing to [him] (Eliot 722). Prufrock struggled and fought against society, but lost to its social norms. T. S. Eliot s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock told the story of a man struggling against society. • 43. Chemical Properties And Its Effects From introduction Lead and zinc are heavy metals which are most commonly found at the same work place. Both these metals have unique physical and chemical properties that make them suitable for great variety of applications. Because of high persistence of lead and its use since ancient times for industrial purposes, Lead has become common environmental and occupational contaminant widely distributed throughout the world. Even though the toxic effects of lead and its compounds have been investigated for many years, the data existing with regard to its mutagenic, clastogenic and carcinogenic properties still shows significant variations. Lead poisoning was very important during the 16th and 19th centuries due to its widespread use in pottery, pipes, boat building, manufacture of windows, arms industry, pigments and printing of books. Many of these uses declined or disappeared throughout the 19th century, but also introduced new ones. Its use was increased tremendously because of its applications for improving the octane rating of gasoline by the addition of tetraethyl lead. Further its uses like that in glass containers for cooking or the use of paint with lead compounds, the manufacturing of lead storage batteries etc., have further increase its uses. • 46. Analysis Of Fagles s Antigone While Ismene s language relies heavily upon a Northern Irish dialect, differences between Paulin s Ismene and Fagles go further. In Fagles s Antigone, Ismene is a voice of reason in contrast to her rash and hot headed sister. She advocates prudence as sensible . Paulin s work offers an Ismene translated not only linguistically but also in personality. As this Ismene warns Antigone, she thinks only of the punishment. Her concern is not that the two would defy the state but that they would die and in a most unpleasant manner. Her speech emphasizes the concern for them rather than the state as she stresses how we ll die and repeatedly speaks of what will happen to us . These lines clearly mark a point at which Paulin chose fidelity to Ismene s Irishness over fidelity to Sophocles s politics. However, these lines also raise questions about the nature of Irishness. Is Ismene s rational response, in the original, inherently un Irish and untranslatable into an Irish context? And, if so, is Paulin suggesting here that the Irish are the overly emotional and hot blooded people that stereotypes have made them out to be? More than a simple substitution of standard English for Irish English, Paulin s translation raises such questions throughout. As he translates, Paulin displaces Irishness, removing it from a familiar context defined by Irish/English dichotomies, character stereotypes, and the trite settings and practices expected of conventional Irish plays. ...
