My Composition Class Analysis
Upon entering college, I was actually quite nervous about what to expect from my Composition I
class. I d seen the films, read the articles and heard from others about all the insane deadlines and
stress that came with that. I never enjoyed writing or English class in general, but taking Composition
I has changed my views on both. This class has benefitted me in several ways, as both a student and a
writer. I have learned how to write more effectively, expanded my writing methods, and learned how
to properly use different grammar techniques. At the start of the fall semester, I remember doing a

In high school I did not enjoy English class at all, but now in college I have a new found appreciation
for it. I ve learned many things about my writing, such as what helps me to write more effectively,
different methods to better my writing, and ways to improve my grammar. Nevertheless, I believe that
there will always be something from my writing that could use additional editing or revision. There s
always room for improvement for my literary and writing skills. Summarily, thanks to my
Composition I class and my professor, I have learned and improved so much in my writing and
reading. Writing assignments had always been stressful and annoying, but now I see them as a doable

Sports Obermeyer
Executive Summary
There were multiple issues weighing heavily on the mind Wally, a VP at Sports Obermeyer, in
November of 1992. Sports Obermeyer, a successful manufacturer of ski apparel was having trouble
planning the manufacturing levels of its various skiwear items for 1993 94 based on whatever scant
information it had on the end customers likes and dislikes. Waiting to make these decisions till after
the Las Vegas trade show, the one event which would give reliable retailer feedback, would prove very
costly given the extremely long lead times of it s suppliers in Hong Kong and China. In the past,
Sports Obermeyer had relied on a group of company managers, called the buying committee to make a

We also need to make sure that Obermeyer honors the minimum order quantity required by the Hong
Kong s supplier. We can multiply the recommended optimal ordering level for each style by

profits.

Question 3
What operational changes would you recommend to Wally to improve performance?
Wally is trying his best to setup a quick response system based on whatever little data he has based on
past numbers and experience of his production managers and suppliers. He does not have the luxury of
looking at retailer feedback in a timely fashion and the facts that the peak season for the line of
business he s in and that the supplier lead times are extremely long do not help him much. Despite
some very aggressive moves to reduce lead times and to have a better forecasting model, Obermeyer

Prevalence Rate For Bipolar I Disorder
Prevalence
The lifetime prevalence rate for Bipolar I Disorder is 0.6% and the 12 month prevalence rate is 0.4%
of the overall population (Merikangas et al, 2011). The United States had the highest reported lifetime
prevalence of bipolar spectrum disorders with 4.4% and a 12 month prevalence of 2.8%. In addition,
lifetime prevalence rates for bipolar I disorder were found to be slightly higher in males than in
females. While much of the reported prevalence rates for bipolar disorder are based on adults 18 years
and older, Merikangas et al. (2010) reported prevalence rates in the United States for adolescents
including 3.3% for males and 2.6% for females. It was also reported that prevalence rates continue to
steadily increase throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, episodes of depression and mania tend to be short and frequent around the time of onset
and then lengthen over time with most people experiencing intermittent episodes throughout their
lifetime (Angst Sellaro, 2000). Since bipolar spectrum disorders are complex in nature, the overall
treatment of this disorder tends to be difficult as nonadherence to treatment is common (Hilty,
Leamon, Lim, Kelly, Hales, 2006).
There are also some gender differences experienced by those with bipolar disorder. Women tend
experience bipolar disorder different from men. Nivoli et al. (2011) reported that in adult onset bipolar
disorder, women generally experience an onset of depression and overall depressive predominance. In
addition, they reported that women tend to experience a higher rate of psychotic features and
suicidality associated with depression. However, men tend to experience higher rates of comorbid
substance abuse and engage in more violent attempts of suicide.
Youth with bipolar disorder tend to experience persistent disease well into their late adolescent years
and adulthood (Wozniak et al, 2010). Individuals with childhood and adolescent onset as compared to
adult onset, tend to be highly correlated with specific illness characteristics including more a severe
course of disease, comorbid anxiety disorders, at least 10 additional lifetime mood episodes, substance

Women In The Antebellum Period
In this short paper, we will speak about the role women had in society in the antebellum south and
how it was affected.
The Antebellum period, also known as the plantation era, which was happened before the civil war but
after the war of 1812. According to history.net, it was characterized by thee rise of abolition and the
gradual polarization of the country between abolitionists and supporters of slavery ( Antebellum
Period | HistoryNet , 2017). We also saw during this time thee shift in manufacturing from the south to
the north and the beginning of the industrial revolution. The economy was booming in the south due
to the demand of cotton and implementation of the cotton gin which made manufacturing cotton easier
( Antebellum Period | HistoryNet , 2017).
During the Antebellum period, women were not seen as equal citizens compared to men. Social
attitudes did change during this period and most women seemed to benefit from it. Women could
receive a good education, and even find jobs although their pay was not equal to that of what men
were getting ( Women in Antebellum America , 2017)
Women started their first group to fight for gender rights in society social and economic equality and
the right to vote which was not achieved until the twentieth century ( Women in Antebellum America ,
2017). During the nineteenth century, two of the most famous academies for women were started
which included, Troy Female Academy which was founded on 1821 by Emma Willard and Mount

Q4) Using all the information available to you, complete the following tasks. Analyse the key
arguments for and against Harry Gardner s proposal. Make a justified recommendation on whether
you think that the Directors of Roberts Media plc should accept Harry Gardner s proposal. (34 marks)
Harrys proposal to move to a digital only market has many advantages and disadvantages. Firstly the
market RM are currently operating in is dealing which lead to them seeing profits fall by 12% last
year. If these trends continue RM will its eventually struggle to operate and may even begin to make a
loss. The new market Harry is suggesting is in fact growing rapidly with a predicted rise in digital

Their skills and expertise in the print market which has previously won awards are potentially going to
be lost by changing markets. Not only this re training might be required which will cost the company a
lot of money.
Harrys strategy involved getting rid of the print works and distribution network as they are surplus to
requirements. Although this will reduce wage costs and increase ROCE which is an objective of the
business, redundancies cost money and with the long serving nature of the work force de motivation
could occur between the surviving staff as long time friends may lose their jobs. 75% of the staff at the
company are part of a trade union compared to an industry average of 50% who are not afraid of
taking action. Unrest between the staff could lead to industrial action such as strikes which not only
create bad publicity for the business but costs RM money as production could be delayed or even
halted.
The change in market will cause some old customers to be lost who don t want to read a digital
magazine or don t have the ability to. for this reason a launch campaign will be required to attract new
customers which will increase the amount of money spent on marketing and might not be viable
depending on their budget.
The strategy also plans for relocation of the business to Manchester. The new location is smaller and
also cheaper. It also plans to encourage employees to work from home which should also further
reduce costs and

The Proposed Framework, Information Security Human Factor...
The proposed framework, Information Security Human factor framework has two dimensions;
organization employee dimensions. Each dimension has two domains, under the organization
dimension there is environment and management domains. Environment domain relates to cultural
and regulation issues while the management domain is concerned with mainly security policies and
practice of information security. The next dimension is the employee dimension. Preparedness and
responsibility domains are included in this dimension. Preparedness is concerned with security,
education, training and awareness while the responsibility domain is concerned with mainly employee
practice and performance. Figure 2
The proposed framework considers the SCT and previous other research of human factors in
information security. From the proposed Information Security human factor framework, domains of
the proposed framework relate to the SCT factors in a couple of ways. Firstly, the SCT environmental
factors relate to environment and management domains (Organization dimension) of the proposed
framework. Secondly, SCT s cognitive and behavioral factors are in relation with the employee
dimension of the proposed framework.
The proposed framework is further enhanced by mapping factors considered in previous studies thus
identifying subdomains of the four main domains (environment, responsibility, management,
preparedness). The below table lists the domain, human factors and previous studies that

The Mind And Body Problem
Abstract:
It is more reasonable to think that the patient has the usual range of mental states. Behaviours visually
express mental states better than knowing if one has a Cartesian soul or the requirement of a normal
human brain.
Body:
It is reasonable to think that the patient has the usual range of mental states because she is
behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal human. Behaviours make mental states more
evidentially obvious than knowing the brain state of a patient or if they have a Cartesian soul or not.
Doctor 4 provides the argument that since the patient is behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal
human, she has the usual range of mental states. Gilbert Ryle s view on the mind and body problem
stems from Philosophical or logical behaviourism (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18). This view means that the idea
that ascriptions of mental states correlates to dispositions of behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18).
Behaviourists describe that saying, I am in pain, does not report an inner state, but rather is part of
being in pain (Wk. 8 1, Slide 23). B.F. Skinner, a psychological behaviourist, also believes that mental
states correlate to behaviours. Psychological Behaviourism is defined as, studying the mind by
studying behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 26). Skinner s black box is an experiment to observe
stimulus/response pairings (Wk. 8 1, Slide 26). Suppose we were to subject the patient to a number of
stimuli in a test environment, and noted down her behaviours. We would

The Flaws Of The Titanic And The Titanic
Despite how entertaining the film Titanic actually is, it has many flaws that can be pointed out. Titanic
is a love story between a woman of the upper class and a man of the lower class. Throughout the
movie they face the difficulties of Jack (Lower class man) not being high enough stature to please the
family of Rose (upper class woman) while they sail through the ocean on a luxurious cruise ship. As
the Titanic sinks the film shows the two being together and going through the catastrophe that is the
final hours on the Titanic. In the movie, Titanic, director James Cameron used a few important actual
events that occurred in the history of The Titanic. However, there are some things that were only
added for detail, entertainment, and action in film. Real life survivors from the ship s sinking report
what is valid and incorrect in the movie.
Many things in the movie, Titanic, actually happened in the actual event. One similarity is when The
Titanic s band continued to play as the ship went under. The lead violinist realized the chaos around
him and started playing, soon to be joined by his band members. An article on the Titanic says, After
the ship struck an iceberg, Wallace Hartley assembled his eight man band, and they eventually ended
up on the Boat Deck near the entrance to the Grand Staircase. There, they played ragtime and waltzes.
( Questioning The Story ). This is reported by survivors to be a valid occurrence in the sinking of the
Titanic. Another similarity between the movie and actual event is when ice landed on the main deck of
the Titanic. When the ship hit the iceberg, huge pieces of ice fell onto the main deck. A story on the
Titanic says, Survivor William Lucas reported seeing about a couple of tons of ice on the fore well
[deck] on the starboard side of the ship. ( Questioning The Story ). Many people report seeing this
incident happen that were aboard the Titanic. The Titanic movie has many similarities to the actual
event.
The movie Titanic although, had quite a few differences from the actual event. The first difference is
how the director, James Cameron, made the movie primarily based around Jack and Rose. These were
not real people on board the Titanic. They are entirely

The Importance Of Life On Earth
Earth is living and breathing planet, it takes a lot of energy to keep the Earth health, to keep all its
inhabitants functioning. Earth is a special planet because it is the only know planet that can allow life
to thrive. Earth receive a tremendous amount of energy from the Sun, solar energy is necessary for life
on Earth. A planet filled with life needs water, it is one of the essential pieces for all humans, animals,
and plants. Earth is cover primarily by water, a unique substance that keeps life going. Water is unique
in many ways, water is the only liquid found at Earth s surface in large quantities...is readily converted
from one state of matter to another (solid, liquid, gas), and water s solid phase, ice, is less dense than
liquid water (Lutgens 90, 2016). All these unique attributes of water make life on earth easy for all its
inhabitants. On a warm day, a cold drink of water with ice can be refreshing, just like a dip in a cold
late, the same can be said for a warm cup of tea in the middle of the winter. Water moves through
Earth; the process of waters movement is explained by the hydrologic cycle. The hydrologic cycle is
the continuous exchange of water among the oceans, the atmosphere, and the continents. The
hydrologic cycle has several essential parts, evaporation, transportation, and precipitation.
Evaporation is the action of water moving into the atmosphere where it condenses and forms clouds,
moisture is then transported in the atmosphere all over earth

Relationships In Atonement
As the story of Atonement initiates, it begins in a superb English home; prior to the second World War.
The family of the house is expecting other family members to arrive in the near future. Moreover, the
expected batch of visitors consists of cousins, Briony s brother, and her brother s friend. With the
absence of a father, and little presence of a mother, the house is to be full of adolescent teens. As time
progresses within the house, relationships begin to form; specifically the relationship between Robbie
and Cecilia. Robbie, the maid s son, becomes head over heels for his long time friend Cecilia. Their
love relationship begins to grow as numerous sexual innuendos occur. Insanely, Robbie courageously
hands a letter to Cecilia that explains all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being the child she is, Briony misinterprets Robbie s emotions toward Cecilia, and identifies him as a
mad man. This only equals disaster as Briony discovers one of her cousins, Lola, as a victim of rape.
Due to past evaluations of Robbie, Briony comes to a conclusion that it was Robbie who assaulted
Lola. Unfortunately, Robbie is taken to prison. Rather than sitting hopelessly in prison, he decides to
take part in the war effort in France. The war in Europe is not so bright, as the German s are successful
in utilizing their scheme. Robbie and his military partners decide it is best to fall back and return
home. As they travel towards the sea, Robbie is bearing an injury; which only seems bearable with
constant thoughts of Cecilia. Resulting from her false accusation of Robbie, Briony experiences a
sense of resentment for what she has done. At this point, her weak state of mind rejects going to
school, and allows her to become a nurse in London. As Briony finds time, she finally meets with
Cecilia to address her false accusation. She converses with Cecilia about the incident, and discovers

The Four Stages In Ovid s Metamorphoses
Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher born in 570 B.C.E. In Ovid s the Metamorphoses, Pythagoras
discusses a variety of beliefs including the four ages of man, autogenesis, and vegetarianism.
The four stages of man as described by Pythagoras states, that the year displays four aspects, passing
through them, in a semblance of our life. Each season represents a different aspect of man. Spring is a
delicate time of year full of new beginnings and hope. Summer is described as powerful, rich, and
expansive. Fall is the time between youth and age. Pythagoras describes winter as hair turning white.

as life moves on. In the Ovid, Milon an athlete who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

creatures that want to kill us should be killed, but not eaten. Pythagoras calls eating animals for food

certain proteins needed by our bodies. The circle of life allows for the predators to eat their prey.
Humans do defy this stereotype due to technology, since there is no animal predator to us. However I
do believe that animals can t be hunted to extinction. There should be boundaries when we use
animals as our food source. As for the agriculture, we do eat crops and meat. This maintains an

The Hegemonic Construction Of Ireland
Migration has fundamentally changed the nature of Irish society. Ireland has recently become a
country of immigration; nonetheless the changes have been rapid and have changed the country
significantly both north and south of the boarder. It is one of a number of peripheral European
countries which has transformed from having a lengthy history of emigration, to becoming a recipient
of substantial inward migration. In Ireland today, migration Is one of the topics under discussion
(Gilmartin White 2008; 143). Although written in 2008, the statement remains true a number of years
later. Irish society has changed much in the last decade; new immigrant communities of ethnic
minorities are visible throughout the country. As a consequence of immigration, people are different in
significant ways and these differences create both opportunities and challenges.
This essay aims to analyse the current hegemonic construction of Ireland as an open, welcoming and
multicultural society on account of immigration. Additionally, the essay will draw upon the
overpowering prejudices shaped within contemporary Irish society by way of examining experiences
of racism within migration and non nationals. For the purpose of this essay, the definition of an
immigrant will follow closely what Hammar has proposed, An immigrant is a person who migrates to
a country and then actually resides there longer than a short period of time, i.e. for more than three
months (1985; 11).

Transformational Leadership, Policy, and Change

Julian I
Abstract
This paper will focus on how effective Leadership can influence policy and change in the United
States healthcare system. The implementation of new policy, program, and institutional change is
often meant to improve the quality of the nation s ever changing healthcare system. Several journal
articles and texts have been selected particularly with a focus on leadership strategies to improve the
quality of healthcare, and leadership s ability to influence implemented changes to the system. The

If those affected choose to abdicate leadership roles, they give others power over our future as health
care professionals .
An example used to illustrate my argument that the ability of leadership to impact, new procedures,
policies, can be noted in the passage of the Affordable Care Act, as noted by Heifetz; Leadership
Without Easy Answers (2012), While the Affordable Care Act offers the potential to positively impact
health care, we have a lot of work to do as regulations are implemented at the national and state levels.
Implementation of health care reform may offer yet another test of our political system as Democrats
and Republicans play out their very different health care visions. The federal health care reform law
does not create a new system but does fill gaps in our existing system. It is a product of both a
fragmented political process, which compels compromise, and our fragmented health care system,
which limits reformers options to move away from the status quo. Strong leadership will be required
to realize the potential and promise for health care reform . I do believe that because of
transformational and transactional leadership the passage of the Affordable Care Act was possible.
Below illustrates several fundamental institutional, program, and policies changes leadership will have

Language Assessments For English Language Learners Essay
Spinelli Chapter 5 Oral and English Language Learner/Bilingual
This chapter identifies language assessments for English Language Learners and Bilingual students.
Over the next several years, the United States educational system will see a dramatic increase in
culturally and linguistically diverse students from various racial and ethnic minority groups.
This chapter is a must read if you have limited knowledge about teaching culturally or linguistically
diverse (CLD) students. This past year, I spent several months filling in for an ESL teacher. However,
since I am not ESL certified I could not sub more than fifteen consecutive days (not a problem when
the school district is short subs and I was frequently pulled). This invaluable opportunity gave me an
enormous amount of experience and yet still left me wanting to know more about how I can better
educate CLD students. After reading this chapter, I have gained a better understanding of cultural and
linguistic diversity and assessments used to evaluate students from minority backgrounds.
Additionally, I believe this is what makes this chapter truly unique. Over the next several years, I think
we are going to see an increase of CLD students in the learning environment. It is imperative to the
educational environment to learn how to best serve these students and avoid inaccurate referrals and
misdiagnosis.
Spinelli begins the chapter by introducing speech and language disorders and how they can affect

Pliny The Elder Summary
INDUSTRY S KNOWLEDGE OF THE HARMFUL EFFECTS
Numerous authors believe that the risks associated with asbestos exposure were known more than
2000 years ago when Greek Geographer Strabo pointed out that slaves who wove asbestos into clothes
developed a sickness of the lung and that a similar observation was also made on asbestos miners, by
Pliny the Elder, a Roman naturalist.3,9,120 However, Browne et al describes Strabo s and Pliny s
stories to be inaccurate due to mistranslation. He points out that Strabo was referring to arsenic
disulphide, and that Elder Pliny was referring to sulphide of mercury, and not asbestos.121 Regardless
of the accuracy of these anecdotes, there is a myriad of evidence of early knowledge of asbestos s
health danger. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daniel Jenkins, testified for the asbestos insulation manufacturers for several years. Also, Dr. Leary, a
physician specialized in chest diseases who worked for Travelers Insurance Company, diagnosed
Tomplait with emphysema, and did not mention asbestosis. Leary s finding was completely refuted
when Dr. Selikoff reviewed Tomplait s X rays and said that his diagnosis of extensive pulmonary
asbestosis is as certain as anything can be in medicine . Asbestos manufacturing companies and their
lawyer similarly, denied knowledge of the association between asbestos exposure and lung disease,
and argued consistently in every lawsuit that this association wasn t known until Selikoff s landmark
article that was published in 1964. It was made conspicuous, however, that literally hundreds of
studies were published in the 1920s and 1930s on the association between asbestos exposure and
asbestosis. Stephenson was also able to compile a bibliography of 86 articles on asbestosis most of
them published before 1938. Another example of the unethical conduct was what Dr. Cooper (an
occupational health professor) said about not being able to have known that a 15% asbestos product
would be unsafe in 1961, and that the early studies conducted in England, were on workers who were
exposed to a lot heavier asbestos dust. Dr. Cooper also referred to a study conducted in 1945 by

United States Involvement In WWII
Despite the disadvantageous effects of Japanese s surprise attack, this event directly correlates with
the United States involvement in World War II, in turn, providing a strong contributing arm to the
Allied forces. Although the war began with Nazi Germany s attack on Poland in September 1939, the
United States did not enter the war until 1941, after the Japanese bombed the American army fleet in
Pearl Harbor (Tames, 2006, 28). Conversely, President Franklin D. Roosevelt worked hard to prepare
Americans for a conflict, which he regarded as inevitable, before formally being involved. (Tames,
2006, 28). The Japanese believed that a surprise attack would eliminate America from joining the war,

The sleeping giant had been awoken, and in America, a sense of fury now accompanied the
mobilisation for war of the world s most powerful economy (History.co Staff, 2015). The losses at
Pearl Harbor would soon be more than made good, and used to take a terrible vengeance on Japan
(History.co Staff, 2015). Japan failed to destroy America s aircraft carriers, this soon became an error
the nation would pay for (Bard, 2004, 133). The United States rallied their forces and prepared for
war, all previous discussions against joining the war were forgotten. President Franklin D. Roosevelt
prepared his nation for battle and announced, We will gain the inevitable triumph. So help us God.
(Roosevelt, 1941). From that point forward, America s capacity to produce hundreds of thousands of
tanks, airplanes, and ships for itself and its allies proved a crucial factor in Allied success (Taylor,
2001). Despite the carnage of Pearl Harbor, the United States involvement in war was initiated by the
surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, and without the U.S. World War II would have had a differing,
negative outcome for the Allied

With the original design created as a serif font, this image shows the array of different styles one font
can change into, including ornamental text design. The special character traits of some of the letters
gives this typeface a formal and traditional style with an artistic flair of more ornamental design. I
chose this font as a representation because it holds many similar characteristics to Times New Roman,
which almost everyone is familiar with and/or has used. The letter Q caught my attention, as well as
the individual design of the numbers to accompany the letters as shown by the 16 towards the middle
of the image. Hoefler Co. is consistently creating typefaces we use on a regular basis, and may not
realize come from such a large company. I feel that typeface is one of the least recognized areas of

much of what is communicated is through letters or images that are inspired by letters. Logos, word
marks, symbols, and font all make up the world of graphic design, and without companies like Hoefler

Family Policy Explanation Paper
Introduction Breastfeeding has numerous benefits for both mother and child. Children who are
breastfed are more resistant to health issues like juvenile diabetes, multiple sclerosis, heart disease,
and infections. Breast milk provides a unique source of nutrition that helps fight these issues and
cannot be replaced with other food, including formula. Mothers who are breastfeeding are less likely
to develop osteoporosis, lower risk of breast, uterine and ovarian cancer. Despite these benefits to both
mother and child there has been much stigma on the topic of breastfeeding in public areas.

The Life of the Catholic Church in the US

1598 the Spanish Franciscans they were evangelizing the peoples of New Mexico, but in 1680 the
Hopi Indians rose up in arms, killed the priests, and prevented the restoration of the missions. Other
missionaries who have come from Mexico christianized Arizona in the XVII century and Texas and
California in the eighteenth century. Two of these priests deserve to be quoted in particular: the jesuit
Eusebio Kino (v.) and the Franciscan junipero Serra. Kino in 1687 established the first mission in
Arizona and in 1700 built San Xavier del Bac, missionary center for the next century. On the basis of
their own explorations and with maps by the facts, projected form two chains of missions: the first

Capital Gains And Its Effect On Income
During inflationary periods, a significant portion of capital appreciation represents at catch up to
higher prices as opposed to a real increase in income (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). Therefore, if a taxpayer
holds an investment for a significant period of time, the amount of gain realized on the sale of the
investment may exceed the investment s cost basis in terms of the actual dollars received, although a
large portion of the gain being realized may be due to inflation as opposed to a true increase in the
value of the investment (Jones Sommerfeld, 1995).
Realization of Capital Income
Another argument in favor of the preferential tax treatment of long term capital gains is that capital
gains are not recognized annually during the years gains are being accrued. Rather than requiring
taxpayers to value their capital assets annually and include the change in value in their taxable income,
long term capital gains are taxed only when realized (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). By waiting to recognize
the gain at one time during the specific year the gain is realized, the taxpayer risks being taxed at a
higher rate. This is due to the progressive design of the tax rate system. Jones and Sommerfeld (1995)
contended that had the gain been taxed in increments as the asset appreciated in value, being taxed at a
higher rate may have been avoided. The preferential tax rate on long term capital gains offsets the
artificially high tax caused by taxing the accumulated gain all at one time (Jones

Whole Foods Business Strategy
In July of 2017, Amazon made headlines by stating they would be acquiring the Whole Foods grocery
chain. Much of the public questioned why an e commerce website such as Amazon would have any
interest in acquiring a grocery chain, but the answer is more obvious than outside observers may think.
By acquiring Whole Foods, Amazon is tapping into a larger market share of grocery consumers and
able to make a larger leap towards opening Amazon styled grocery stores across the world. Amazon
has grown into a company with many different facets since its founding in 1994. The company has
expanded into the market of video steaming services with AmazonPrime, online grocery services with

market can be difficult for new companies, especially as an online marketplace. A poll conducted by

Macbeth Illusion Vs Reality Essay
The line between an illusion and reality is a very slight. The only way to differentiate between the two
is through one s thoughts and perception. One s own self perception can vary depending on one s
circumstances and the way one is raised. This slight gap between illusion and reality is also affected
by one s back story and how an individual is taught to think. In life, as in literature, one s own self
perception can affect the way one differentiates between what is an illusion and what is reality. In the
play Macbeth, the author, William Shakespeare reveals how one s own self perception can affect the
way an individual differentiates between illusions and reality. Many characters shift the way they see
reality and question the illusions of other characters nature because of the way they see themself and

Duke Ellington is considered to be one of the greatest figures in the history of
American music. Edward Kennedy Duke Ellington was born in Washington D.C. on
April 29, 1899. His parents were James Edward and Daisy Kennedy Ellington. They raised Duke as an

had a great talent for music. In the beginning of his musical life, Duke began to take a promising

Hitting the 80s it made a break through by remodelling the company then only had to compete with 50
components.
The general watches are usually silver or gold and quite bold. Hakey s designs were more phenomenal
and colourful. They inspired people to be themselves as the Swatch watch today is commonly known

Enterococcus Faecalis Research Paper
Enterococcus Faecalis In 1899, Thiercelin found a new gram positive diplococcus that he named
enterocoque, suggesting that he believed that this bacterium had something to do with the intestines.
He also described finding this bacterium in patients who had enteritis, appendicitis and meningitis
(Murray). In 1906, Andrewes and Hoarder isolated this same bacterium from a patient suffering from
endocarditis and they also discovered a relationship with urinary tract infections. They named it
Streptococcus faecalis, again because of similarities to the human intestinal tract (Murray). Other early
20th century instances of infection where S. faecalis has been associated but not known to be
definitively causative include wound infections after World War I, osteomyelitis, ... Show more

Influence of the Superpowers in the Middle East Conflict...
To what extent was the Middle East conflict between 1948 and 1978 fuelled by the interests and
concerns of the superpowers in the region?
During 1948 and 1978 there was massive conflict in the Middle East between Arab Muslim countries
and Jewish Israel. The conflict itself was fuelled by nationalism and religious differences and other
disputes such as the Palestinians refugee problem. During this time the superpowers got involved in
the Middle East because of the cold war. However, the superpowers involvement was noticeable by
their attempts to implement their respected influences in the Middle East to gain power with respect to
their political and economical policies of the world and become the ultimate superpower . Thus the
superpowers were involved and contributed to the conflict but in a very small way compared to
nationalism and religious differences in the Middle East.

and Jewish Israel. This conflict was caused by nationalism and religious differences. Israel was
declared a state on the 14 May 1948 this led to the Arab states attacking Israel in attempt to destroy
Israel completely so that it would seize to exist as a state. The attack of the Arab states on Israel led to
the war of 1948, which ended in 1949 with Israel being victorious. This war added even more fuel to

Rosaleen ending up in jail, Lily returns to the comfort of the bees once again. As she opens the jar and
watches the bees escape, Lily follows suit and flees from home. She breaks Rosaleen out of the

World War 2 Propaganda Analysis
During World War II, many countries used propoganda, a piece of media used to promote a purpose,
to direct citizens attention to war efforts. Through the use of a variety of persuasvie techniques Great
Britian was able to use propoganda to recruit citizens into the war efforts. This is due to the fact that
ordinary people saw everyone contributing to a simple solution such as, working in a factory to build
parts becuase they were inspired to have a say in how long the war would continue. Thus, the
techniques that were used in propoganda proved to be effective during that time by persuading and
inspiring people to contribute to World War II. In the first piece, there are men working on a truck
during an active battle with an evident color scheme of red, white, and blue to show patritioism. This
proposed a simple solution that inspired people to work in the factories. However, the also picture
depicts a sense of fear out of the audience because the men are working on a vehicle as the war is
going on. Citizens would feel this fear deep inside, and take the prior inspiration to contribute to the
production of vehicles. Since the propoganda says, the word our the patirotism returns persuading the
audience to work towards the simple solution out of the fear of losing loved ones or ... Show more

Holden Caulfield Symbolism
In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, Salinger places a significant amount of importance on the
title. The tile itself The Catcher in the Rye is a symbol of Holden Caulfield s love of innocence and
children, and his willingness to protect them from becoming the monster that Holden Caulfield has
become. This is evident in Holden s admiration for children, the symbolic meaning behind Holden s
definition of a Catcher in the Rye , and Holden s hatred of adult s unawareness of protecting the
innocence of the youth. Holden Caulfield throughout the Catcher in the Rye has this admiration
toward children, which is a direct contrast to his view of everyone being a phony. This is evident in
Holden s double standard that he has toward his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, something that particularly bothered him was the treatment of children by adults. This is
evident in Chapter 16 were he states The cars zoomed by, brakes screeched all over the place, his
parents paid no attention to him, and he kept walking next to the curb and singing. This abusive
behavior of adults on children is what ruins the innocence of children, and is what strips them from
their innocence. This in turn ultimately leads to a disastrous transition to adulthood, one that Holden
Caulfield is currently facing. Catcher in the Rye , is a symbol of preserving the innocence of the youth
and stopping the abusive and phony , behavior of adults and ultimately living in innocence and in a

A Better Safer Alternative Treatment
The word cancer strikes fear into the hearts of many people and their loved ones. Millions of people
are diagnosed every year and they put their full trust into their doctors to make the best decisions and
offer the most effective treatment. However people tend to be more frightened of the treatment itself
because traditional cancer therapies produce scary symptoms such as vomiting, pain, and hair loss.
The treatments leave patients feeling extremely weak and fatigued. Most patients believe that these
drug treatments are the best and only option to cure them. There is a better safer alternative treatment
that the FDA might be hiding from the public. This alternative treatment is called amygdalin although
it is also known under the term the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this way the cancer is killed. The cyanide is only released when it comes into contact with a cancer
cell making it safe to the human body. On the opposing side people claim that the cyanide in
amygdalin is dangerous and unsuccessful in treating and curing cancer. However the amount in the
seeds is so small that it would not produce any harm and the fact that it is enclosed makes it safe. The
medical drug treatments are far more dangerous and have the ability to kill a person in certain doses.
According to the PLOS ONE medical journal article Amygdalin Blocks Bladder Cancer cell Growth
In Vitro by Diminishing Cyclin A and cdk2 even though people opposed to amygdalin claim that the
cyanide content in the seed is not effective, unsafe, and toxic none of these claims have been not been
observed in any of the treated patients. (page 1 paragraph 4.) According to their study amygdalin
caused a complete cure in 40.5% of people and relieved symptoms in 22.9% of people, from the 368
people treated. This means that a large number of people were cured something a medical treatment
cannot do. Medical drugs only put people into a cancer free state called remission. This remission
period can last 5 years or 10 years before the disease returns. Thus it is a band aid fix to the problem.
And to make matters worse chemotherapy drugs and radiation only provide relief in late stages of
cancer and do not provide prolonged life in most cases. Amygdalin found in natural seeds is

Essay on The Allegory of the Cave
In Plato s Republic, the great philosopher describes what is needed to achieve a perfect society. He
addresses several subjects still debated in today s society, such as justice, gender roles, and the proper
form of education. He discusses these issues through his main character, Socrates. Socrates, another
well known philosopher for his time, happens upon a group of men, and what begins as a modest
question, leads into a series of debates, metaphors, and allegories. Perhaps the most discussed allegory
in today s popular culture is the Allegory of the Cave. Over the past decade, several movies have
mimicked the fantasy, the most profitable being the Matrix Trilogy. But what makes this story so
fascinating? Through it, Plato attempts to map ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since these are the only beings they are aware of, the sounds made by the people are also assumed to
come from the shadows. Socrates summarizes their belief system stating, such men would hold that
the truth is nothing other than the shadows of artificial things, (Book VII, 515c).
After describing the setting of the cave, Socrates asks his audience to imagine that one of the prisoners
breaks free from his bonds, and sees the fire and the statues themselves. He notes that there would first
come pain as his eyes adjust to the new light, and disbelief, as everything he had previously thought to
be real is suddenly proven artificial. However, Socrates assures his audience that the man would
eventually come to realize that the people and the fire are more real than the shadows had ever been.
He would ultimately grasp how the fire creates the shadows of the statues, creating a mere copy of the
real thing. He would then conclude that the fire and the statues are the most real things in the world.
Though the man would then seem to be educated, Socrates takes the fantasy farther by dragging the
freed prisoner out of the cave and into the actual world. At first, the man s eyes would dart from the
brightness of the sun, and watch only shadows. Eventually, his eyes would allow him to look at
reflections and finally at the actual objects themselves. He then realizes that the trees, flowers, houses,
rocks, and animals he

Behaviours visually express mental states better than knowing if one has a Cartesian soul or the requirement of a normal human brain. Body: It is reasonable to think that the patient has the usual range of mental states because she is behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal human. Behaviours make mental states more evidentially obvious than knowing the brain state of a patient or if they have a Cartesian soul or not. Doctor 4 provides the argument that since the patient is behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal human, she has the usual range of mental states. Gilbert Ryle s view on the mind and body problem stems from Philosophical or logical behaviourism (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18). This view means that the idea that ascriptions of mental states correlates to dispositions of behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18). Behaviourists describe that saying, I am in pain, does not report an inner state, but rather is part of being in pain (Wk. 8 1, Slide 23). B.F. Skinner, a psychological behaviourist, also believes that mental states correlate to behaviours. Psychological Behaviourism is defined as, studying the mind by studying behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 26). Titanic is a love story between a woman of the upper class and a man of the lower class. Throughout the movie they face the difficulties of Jack (Lower class man) not being high enough stature to please the family of Rose (upper class woman) while they sail through the ocean on a luxurious cruise ship. As the Titanic sinks the film shows the two being together and going through the catastrophe that is the final hours on the Titanic. In the movie, Titanic, director James Cameron used a few important actual events that occurred in the history of The Titanic. However, there are some things that were only added for detail, entertainment, and action in film. Real life survivors from the ship s sinking report what is valid and incorrect in the movie. Many things in the movie, Titanic, actually happened in the actual event. One similarity is when The Titanic s band continued to play as the ship went under. The lead violinist realized the chaos around him and started playing, soon to be joined by his band members. An article on the Titanic says, After the ship struck an iceberg, Wallace Hartley assembled his eight man band, and they eventually ended up on the Boat Deck near the entrance to the Grand Staircase. There, they played ragtime and waltzes. ( Questioning The Story ). This is reported by survivors to be a valid occurrence in the sinking of the Titanic. Another similarity between the movie and actual event is when ice landed on the main deck of the Titanic. When the ship hit the iceberg, huge pieces of ice fell onto the main deck. A story on the Titanic says, Survivor William Lucas reported seeing about a couple of tons of ice on the fore well [deck] on the starboard side of the ship. ( Questioning The Story ). Many people report seeing this incident happen that were aboard the Titanic. The Titanic movie has many similarities to the actual event. Began with the Spanish conquerors, who founded the parish of St. Augustine, Florida, in 1565. In 1598 the Spanish Franciscans they were evangelizing the peoples of New Mexico, but in 1680 the Hopi Indians rose up in arms, killed the priests, and prevented the restoration of the missions. Other missionaries who have come from Mexico christianized Arizona in the XVII century and Texas and California in the eighteenth century. Two of these priests deserve to be quoted in particular: the jesuit Eusebio Kino (v.) and the Franciscan junipero Serra. Kino in 1687 established the first mission in Arizona and in 1700 built San Xavier del Bac, missionary center for the next century. On the basis of their own explorations and with maps by the facts, projected form two chains of missions: the first from the Baja California to Monterrey in the Alta California, the second covering from Arizona. • 25. Capital Gains And Its Effect On Income During inflationary periods, a significant portion of capital appreciation represents at catch up to higher prices as opposed to a real increase in income (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). Therefore, if a taxpayer holds an investment for a significant period of time, the amount of gain realized on the sale of the investment may exceed the investment s cost basis in terms of the actual dollars received, although a large portion of the gain being realized may be due to inflation as opposed to a true increase in the value of the investment (Jones Sommerfeld, 1995). Realization of Capital Income Another argument in favor of the preferential tax treatment of long term capital gains is that capital gains are not recognized annually during the years gains are being accrued. Rather than requiring taxpayers to value their capital assets annually and include the change in value in their taxable income, long term capital gains are taxed only when realized (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). By waiting to recognize the gain at one time during the specific year the gain is realized, the taxpayer risks being taxed at a higher rate. This is due to the progressive design of the tax rate system. Jones and Sommerfeld (1995) contended that had the gain been taxed in increments as the asset appreciated in value, being taxed at a higher rate may have been avoided. The preferential tax rate on long term capital gains offsets the artificially high tax caused by taxing the accumulated gain all at one time (Jones ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. World War 2 Propaganda Analysis During World War II, many countries used propoganda, a piece of media used to promote a purpose, to direct citizens attention to war efforts. Through the use of a variety of persuasvie techniques Great Britian was able to use propoganda to recruit citizens into the war efforts. This is due to the fact that ordinary people saw everyone contributing to a simple solution such as, working in a factory to build parts becuase they were inspired to have a say in how long the war would continue. Thus, the techniques that were used in propoganda proved to be effective during that time by persuading and inspiring people to contribute to World War II. In the first piece, there are men working on a truck during an active battle with an evident color scheme of red, white, and blue to show patritioism. This proposed a simple solution that inspired people to work in the factories. However, the also picture depicts a sense of fear out of the audience because the men are working on a vehicle as the war is going on. Citizens would feel this fear deep inside, and take the prior inspiration to contribute to the production of vehicles. Since the propoganda says, the word our the patirotism returns persuading the audience to work towards the simple solution out of the fear of losing loved ones or ... The tile itself The Catcher in the Rye is a symbol of Holden Caulfield s love of innocence and children, and his willingness to protect them from becoming the monster that Holden Caulfield has become. This is evident in Holden s admiration for children, the symbolic meaning behind Holden s definition of a Catcher in the Rye , and Holden s hatred of adult s unawareness of protecting the innocence of the youth. • 49. A Better Safer Alternative Treatment The word cancer strikes fear into the hearts of many people and their loved ones. Millions of people are diagnosed every year and they put their full trust into their doctors to make the best decisions and offer the most effective treatment. However people tend to be more frightened of the treatment itself because traditional cancer therapies produce scary symptoms such as vomiting, pain, and hair loss. The treatments leave patients feeling extremely weak and fatigued. Most patients believe that these drug treatments are the best and only option to cure them. There is a better safer alternative treatment that the FDA might be hiding from the public. This alternative treatment is called amygdalin although it is also known under the term the ... On the opposing side people claim that the cyanide in amygdalin is dangerous and unsuccessful in treating and curing cancer. However the amount in the seeds is so small that it would not produce any harm and the fact that it is enclosed makes it safe. The medical drug treatments are far more dangerous and have the ability to kill a person in certain doses. According to the PLOS ONE medical journal article Amygdalin Blocks Bladder Cancer cell Growth In Vitro by Diminishing Cyclin A and cdk2 even though people opposed to amygdalin claim that the cyanide content in the seed is not effective, unsafe, and toxic none of these claims have been not been observed in any of the treated patients. (page 1 paragraph 4.) According to their study amygdalin caused a complete cure in 40.5% of people and relieved symptoms in 22.9% of people, from the 368 people treated. This means that a large number of people were cured something a medical treatment cannot do. Medical drugs only put people into a cancer free state called remission. This remission period can last 5 years or 10 years before the disease returns. Thus it is a band aid fix to the problem. And to make matters worse chemotherapy drugs and radiation only provide relief in late stages of cancer and do not provide prolonged life in most cases. Amygdalin found in natural seeds is ... • 50. Essay on The Allegory of the Cave In Plato s Republic, the great philosopher describes what is needed to achieve a perfect society. He addresses several subjects still debated in today s society, such as justice, gender roles, and the proper form of education. He discusses these issues through his main character, Socrates. Socrates, another well known philosopher for his time, happens upon a group of men, and what begins as a modest question, leads into a series of debates, metaphors, and allegories. Perhaps the most discussed allegory in today s popular culture is the Allegory of the Cave. Over the past decade, several movies have mimicked the fantasy, the most profitable being the Matrix Trilogy. But what makes this story so fascinating? Through it, Plato attempts to map ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since these are the only beings they are aware of, the sounds made by the people are also assumed to come from the shadows. Socrates summarizes their belief system stating, such men would hold that the truth is nothing other than the shadows of artificial things, (Book VII, 515c). After describing the setting of the cave, Socrates asks his audience to imagine that one of the prisoners breaks free from his bonds, and sees the fire and the statues themselves. He notes that there would first come pain as his eyes adjust to the new light, and disbelief, as everything he had previously thought to be real is suddenly proven artificial. However, Socrates assures his audience that the man would eventually come to realize that the people and the fire are more real than the shadows had ever been. He would ultimately grasp how the fire creates the shadows of the statues, creating a mere copy of the real thing. He would then conclude that the fire and the statues are the most real things in the world. Though the man would then seem to be educated, Socrates takes the fantasy farther by dragging the freed prisoner out of the cave and into the actual world. At first, the man s eyes would dart from the brightness of the sun, and watch only shadows. Eventually, his eyes would allow him to look at reflections and finally at the actual objects themselves. He then realizes that the trees, flowers, houses, rocks, and animals he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
