Summer Concert Report
Being in the Youth Orchestras of Fresno for the past 5 years, I have had the pleasure of working on
some of the most incredible pieces in orchestra literature. I ve been a part of some special concerts,
like performing Stravinsky s Rite of Spring, Bernstein s On the Waterfront, Symphony No. 12 by
Shostakovich, Short Ride in a Fast Machine by Adams, and Mussorgsky s Pictures at an Exhibition,
but there is one piece in particular that has made a huge impact on me and many people in the Central
Valley in California. Premiering Water(less) Music), by Dr. Ben Boone, was written for the Youth
Orchestras of Fresno two years ago while California was, and still is, experiencing a severe drought.

It made me realize that this drought has had a huge impact, and how a lot of people in California aren t
really taking this situation very seriously. After the premiere in Fresno, and performing Water(less)
Music again at the Walt Disney Concert Hall the following summer, I started to become more aware of
the amount of water that my family and I have been using. I never imagined that my actions, such as
allowing water to run while brushing my teeth or having the sprinklers on too long, could cause
hardship for people in the Central Valley. Since the Central Valley is an agriculture based economy,
the drought has caused many people a loss in crops, income, and even jobs. It actually affected my
family directly. My grandfather is a raisin farmer and has experienced a decrease in the size of his
crop over the last five years.
The word drought can have different meanings to different people, depending on how a shortage of
water affects them. I will always remember how performing this piece impacted my understanding of
the drought. As I look into the next few years of my life, and consider the possibility of moving out of
California for college, I will always remember to conserve water no matter where I live. The
experience of premiering Water(less) Music gave me a deeper appreciation for the importance of
water that I once

Television and the Internet
Television and The Internet
Having already done my fair share of internet surfing, I was excited to finally have the opportunity to
do a research paper that involved this vast and seemingly boundless electronic world. It is easy to
passively interact with the rest of the world and scan effortlessly through millions of pages of
information, some of which is useful, some of which simply takes up space; the problem that many
researchers and interest groups face is making sense of the whole thing.
What effects does the internet have on people? This question is no doubt an immense one. In this
paper I will attempt to explore the effects the internet has on one major aspect of our everyday lives:
television. The internet is not

The information on characters can include both their fictional roles and their real life situation.
(Sites devoted to some of the better looking actors and actresses seem to be a very popular attraction).
Therefore, if someone wanted to inquire about an aspect of a series, which will most likely enhance
his or her experience for the show, the information is available in minutes. For example, I was curious
as to who wrote one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, The Monorail. Within one minute,
I had discovered that Conan O Brien had written it, enhancing my appreciation for both The Simpsons
and his talk show. Most official sites, either sponsored by the show or the network, provide scripts to
past episodes and details on, or clues to, future episodes; often explaining the motivations and/or
hidden agendas behind many of the episodes. People from around the world can either follow a show
that they don t have access to (see responses 5, 15), perhaps in a different country, or read the
summaries of episodes that they have missed. Included in these sites are popular images and sounds of
the characters, trivia based on the episode, internet treasure hunts, as well as other interactive
elements; all promoting increased interest in the show as well as rampant discussions on the chat lines
and newsgroups. One of the most popular interactive events on the internet was a

College Athletes Be Paid
Imagine you ve just graduated a four school and you have crazy debt and you are paying medical bills
because you got hurt playing a sport. Which brings the question should College athletes be paid the
right the athletes deserve? I believe the athletes should be paid.
The college athletes are playing a game for the school and paying for their education at their school/
university. Others may say the athletes are paid with a free education but that s one and a million who
don t pay anything. The evidence I found stated I believe that we should provide a student athlete with
a scholarship that covers the full cost of attendance at his or her university for the entire academic
year, i.e. including summer school.(D Andrea). This quote is saying ... Show more content on

I wouldn t label earning a free college education exploitation.(Kieran). This shows how people don t
value education. Also i found that the athletes dont get paid cause they re not adults College athletes
don t get paid because they re not adults, real NCAA executive actually says.(D andrea). This quote
shows the reasoning of not why they don t get paid. Lastly the scholarships Athletic scholarships are
their compensation and a fair one at that. Essentially they receive a free education and in return they
represent the school in a certain sport. College athletes don t have to worry about student loans, paying
for textbooks, the cost of on campus living, and meal plans.(Kieran) . This quote explains what a
scholarship is. As stated the counter argument is very debatable because it s how you look at it.
As you can see that college athletes should be paid no matter what the circumstances. Throughout the
essay i proved that the cost is too much for some familie just to pay outright to go to school and also
the full ride scholarships don t cover all the costs. Also the athletes aren t being

The Structure of the American Government
The 3 Branches of Government
The constitution was established by men who had experienced the dictatorships of Europe and had
escaped from its grasp. They sought to establish a form of government that would never allow a
dictatorship or tyrant ruler to hold power over the people like in the places they had fled. With their
creation of the foundation of what our government is today they created a system where 3 branches
were all of equal power and each could be overruled by another which prevented any branch
becoming superior of another. The separation of powers provides a system of shared power called
Checks and Balances.(2) The three branches are legislative, judicial and executive and they each have
specific powers to balance those of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since our Congress is bicameral, a system of self checking is practiced. For example, bills have to be
passed by both Houses prior to ratification.
The duty of the Executive Branch is to enforce the laws of the United States. (1) The branch is headed
by the President of the United States. The President is the most influential person in the government
and represents our nation to the rest of the world. However, the actions and opinions stated by our
President represent the Executive branch as a whole. The president depends upon many people who
advise him in how to try to gain the highest level of satisfaction for the American people. The
President has several constitutional duties aside from the general enforce the laws duty. These are:
• To be Commander in Chief of the military
• To conduct foreign affairs
• To negotiate treaties with other nations
• To nominate members of the cabinet, judiciary, etc.
• To review and sign or veto bills
• To administer the laws of the nation
• To issue pardons as he sees fit
• To address the Congress from time to time to assess the state of the nation
The powers of the Executive consist of: veto power over all bills; appointment of judges and other
officials; making treaties; ensureing all laws are carried out; the commander in chief of the military;
and has pardon power. All the executive powers still have the ability of being checked by the other
branches which prevents a president

This means that each employee of the firm will do its best to help every person who meets and who
needs help. For example, the British newspaper THE INDEPENDENT explains that Tesco has
developed a new strategy to help its clients to overcome the global economic crisis. Tesco set up a
discount strategy to consumers struggling with the effects of the credit crunch . It creates the pay day
strategy (Evans S., 2009). In fact, it tries to simplify the lives of its customers and of its employees. In
conclusion, TESCO through its motto is trying to circulate an idea; a habit and a behavior to address
face each person; each employee is a sort of flagship of the enterprise; one person is enough to give a
bad image, in order that many people think that TESCO is a bad company, all of this is due because of
the word of mouth. TESCO has created a corporate culture in order that does not happen with another
surface manifestation.
Norms
Secondly in this second paragraph we talk about the norms of TESCO. In fact Mottoes have
concerned the way in which employees should act within the company in relation to clients and
colleagues. But the company also uses a strategy to boost its employees. In this case the Schein s
theory calls this a Norm. According to Schein Norms are expected modes of behaviour that are
accepted as the firm s ways of doing things, thereby providing guidance for employee behaviour . In a

Symbolism In The Metamorphosis
Symbolism appears frequently throughout Kafka s short story, giving the reader a deeper look into the
author s purpose. When using characters to symbolize real life feelings and situations, it helps readers
feel like they too are going through the same things as the characters. In stories, symbolism is a prime
element that helps everything come together, and grabs the reader s attention, causing them to see the
text s hidden message. During The Metamorphosis, Kafka forces the reader to really get into Gregor s
thoughts, giving a personal intuition to anyone reading this short story. Symbolism is a key component
in The Metamorphosis ; connecting characters to Kafka s life, taking the reader inside Gregor s head,
and showing the course characters change with time.
Having characters represent Kafka s life turns an unrealistic story into relatable material. Kafka
struggled with family problems throughout his entire life, and growing up he felt useless as if he was
an unwanted vermin. This helps the reader make sense of the reading, forcing them to relate Gregor s
feelings to a real person. When Gregor Samsa woke up one morning from unsettling dreams, he found
himself changed in his bed into a monstrous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gregor s father starts to throw apples at him, and this proves that Gregor is no longer perceived as a
son, but rather as an unruly pest that nobody wants around. One apple, thrown weakly, grazed Gregor
s back and slid off harmlessly. But the very next one that came flying after it literally forced its way
into Gregor s back. (Kafka 1179). This shows how within a few weeks Gregor s family went from
loving him to wanting to hurt him. It symbolizes betrayal and how they suddenly view Gregor as a
burden. With this one quote, any reader can comprehend the idea of rejection which fills Gregor
himself. Rejection is not only obtained in the reading, but is also found within daily

Analysis Of Petruchio In Don Quixote
Chivalry is dead, this is a phrase which is often heard in today s society. Many seem to believe that
there is little if not no chivalry in the world today, but what about in times past then? Was chivalry
truly a constant presence in the past or are there exceptions to this statement as well? In order to
analyze this question a look at the character Petruchio from Don Quixote will be done. This tale is
often seen as one that has chivalrous characters who work towards their end goals, but this particular
character has often been credited with overthrowing the concepts of chivalry as well. These facts
combined make for an interesting study on the idea of chivalry.
When Petruchio is first introduced into the story he immediately draws ... Show more content on

Each of these examples are just from Petruchio and Kate s wedding alone, and yet Petruchio character
shines through. Chivalrous acts would have included arriving on time to his own wedding, being
respectful enough towards his future wife to dress properly, and never referring to his new wife as a
piece of property to do with as he wishes. Unfortunately, none of this happened though.
The final, perhaps most glaring example of dishonorable actions towards Kate comes from Petruchio s
continued attempts to tame her. A chivalrous act is often considered something that is noble and kind,
something done for another person. What could easily be labeled as the most dishonorable choice that
Petruchio makes in all of this is assuming the air of chivalry to defend his actions. He claims to love
Kate so much that he does not want her subjected to inferior things, but the truth is he uses methods
such as starvation and sleep deprivation in order to control her. His actions in the end prove to appear
fruitful because it seems as though by the end of the tale she is an obedient and submissive wife, and
he has managed to still appear chivalrous to some just by this fact alone, because to them he has
managed to tame the shrew that was Kate.
In conclusion, a chivalrous person was and is to this day considered someone who is brave, honorable,
courteous, and

Arnie In What s Eating Gilbert Grape
First off, I would like to begin by saying I am truly appalled by the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio did
not win an Oscar for his role as Arnie in What s Eating Gilbert Grape. The entire time I was watching
the movie, I was stunned by his performance, questioning whether or not he had an actual mental
disability, even though I know he does not. By doing my research, I discovered that prior to filming,
Leo visited a school for mentally ill and autistic teenagers, adopting the characteristics of voice,
manner, and behavior from the different students at the school. By putting all of these different
characteristics together, he created his own character who was the true center of this film. The
storyline of the movie is more based on the life of Gilbert Grape, played by Johnny Depp. Gilbert
lives in the small, Midwestern town of Endora, Iowa with his two sisters, his mentally ill younger
brother, and his 500 pound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the movie was over, my dad turned to me and said, The sad thing is, the storyline of this movie

all these different impairments and disorders that people have, but it never hit me that people go

watch movies like What s Eating Gilbert Grape to realize what I did. The most important thing we can

so easily occur in someone s life so we can come together and try to prevent, find cures, and make this

Advantages of Herbal Diet Supplements
Here is a crash course in the advantages of herbal supplements and medicines:
They are cheap. Did you look at your medical bills for the past year? Now add up all that you paid the
pharmacist for prescription and over the counter medications. Is the number looking scary yet? So if
you have been using conventional medicine for small problems like common cold and stomachaches
then perhaps it is time you considered herbal medicine. It might give you a healthier wallet or purse
besides a healthy body.
You can do it. Did you know that herbal medicine and supplements can be assembled in your own
kitchen? There are thousands of herbal recipes available on the Internet. Just follow them like a recipe
to bake a cake and there you are. Your medicine made by your own hand. If you have a garden you
could even grown your own herbs.

wonders of herbs. In part, this was because the development of allopathic medicinal techniques in the
west combined with the lack of scientific support for non conventional medicines to give an unsavory
(and quite wrong) reputation to herbal medicines and supplements. Recent discoveries have forced the
medical community to reconsider the benefits of herbs. This has mostly come about with increasing
exposure of western community to the healing techniques practiced in other cultures and countries that

Analysis Of Albert Camus s Speech
People choose every day in different circumstances and degrees either small imperceptible one, such
as the color of the shirt that they will wear, or huge emotional and moral dilemmas like an abort or a
high risk surgery. Nonetheless, there is always a decision made that has its consequences (want or
not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address the importance of choices. The author uses the
character of Balducci to show what happens when people follow the rules without hesitation. For
example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave the Arab with Daru, and Daru shows himself
discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says, Those are the orders (Camus). Balducci as a man of
law must follow whatever thing is said to him, and he will do it for sure without dubiety; in addition,
Balducci remarks, [Y]ou must sign, that s the rule (Camus). He has to obey all the requisites and
commandments that his work dictates, and he can t avoid doing this because he will break all the
goodness that justice represents. Nevertheless, Camus tries to point out if a person who only follow a
guide or manual for every decision he or she made. That person is, in fact, making no choices, and he
or she does not have to face and think about what is right or wrong because that person will search and
do whatever is said in that guide. Particularly, in this story, Balducci notes, You don t get used to
putting a rope on a man even after years of it... (Camus). Even though he does not

1.3
In paragraph 90 of the Annual Policy, ibid, it was stated that one view is that lending to
any infrastructure project should be made eligible for priority sector lending while making subtargets
fungible within the overall target. There is another view that enlargement of areas has resulted in loss
of focus. It is also held that credit growth in housing, venture capital and infrastructure has been strong
while it has been sluggish in agriculture and small industries. Further, it is argued that only sectors that
impact large population, weaker sections and are employment intensive such as agriculture, tiny and
small industry should be eligible for priority sector. Since there are several issues that need to be
considered in this regard, it is appropriate that these are debated and examined in depth .

The Effects Of Universal Health Insurance Mandate On The...
This paper reviews the effects of the universal health insurance mandate in the Massachusetts labor
market. Using a difference in differences (DID) model, this study focuses on the co evolution of
insurance coverage and labor markets. One found that under the recent legislation, workers from firms
of varying sizes demonstrate different patterns with regards to obtaining insurance coverage. While
employer sponsored health insurance is designed to be the primary source of coverage for
Massachusetts residents under reform, two legal loopholes exist in the employer mandate. For mid
sized organizations, the probability of part time employees working without employer provided
insurance has increased.

Similar to Massachusetts insurance reform, the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(PPACA) also features insurance exchanges, individual and employer mandates, and expanded
Medicaid coverage. Due to the similarity between the Massachusetts health reform and the Affordable
Care Act, much can be learned from Massachusetts s experience on implementing health insurance
coverage expansions and employer provided universal insurance coverage law. In other words, this
case offers insight into how some businesses and their employees might react to federal law
requirements.
Several studies sought to investigate the effect of the universal health reform and its impact on the
labor market outcomes, such as the unemployment rate and average wage (Buchmueller, 2013;
Kolstad, 2012). However, they failed to take into account the potential legal loopholes in part time
status, employer provided coverage and Medicaid, and the impact of companies size, even though
studies have shown that employer provided regulations are not equally demanding to different
businesses (Gruber, 2004).
The primary purpose of this paper is to determine whether the Massachusetts healthcare reform has, in
fact, improved health insurance coverage. If the reform indeed improved the coverage, which channels
were utilized to accomplish this? In order to better assess this issue, one explored the

Alan Moore And Dave Gibbons
Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons Watchmen illustrates the lives of retired superheroes in the 1980s. The
Keene Act outlawed the masquerading of superheroes in the 1970s and led to the dissolution of many
superheroes. The murder of an old colleague, The Comedian, forces them to come out of retirement
and sets the events of the graphic novel into place. Moore and Gibbons sets up a world of superheroes
in the midst of a very real historical period of the Cold War. We usually think of superheroes as
existing in a fictional place, with an altered history. However, the novel references President Nixon,
the Cold War, Vietnam, and other real events and figures. These references help to establish the
superheroes as people existing in reality. Here, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard Nixon is running for another term. Superheroes have influenced how the time period will turn
out because of they are the ones who change the events in history, both for and against us. The
presence of Dr. Manhattan makes it easier for the United States government to accomplish their
military goals, for example. In real life, a weapon that the United States or any country, for that matter,
this powerful would have been used to death. It would have meant the end of our problems as well as
the solution to any future problems or discussions. The inclusion of superheroes means we must
discuss the option of having too much power and having an extraterrestrial presence among the human
species. The presence of the superheroes and their eventual retirement/exile arise from this feeling of
otherness . Dr. Manhattan is feared for his appearance and his powers, and eventually drives him to

dynamic of the society. The novel is also based on the current events going on, plus alterations
according to the necessary actions taken by the superheroes. The setting allowed the novel to hold a

Realistic Features Of Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer
Chaucer, one of the greatest English poets of all times, was born in London around the year 1340 and
died in 1400. He came from a wealthy merchant London family. Thanks to his education and his
father s court connections he became a member of Parliaments. After a marriage with a woman named
Philippa de Roet, a lady of high rank in waiting to the Queen, Chaucer got a diplomatic position. He
was sent abroad to secret talks and official business to Italy and France. There he learned French and
Italian, as well as studied their history, literature and culture, which influenced him later in his works.

As we know from the Prologue, the Reeve had been carpenter. As I got to know from history, reeves
and millers were as well antagonists in a real life. That is also a realistic feature of Miller´s tale, and
feeling offended from a Miller´s tale, Reeve makes a revenge in his tale about millers. Here Chaucer
set forth the ordinary feud between millers and reeves that happened in everyday life. When the tale
was ended, the pilgrims didn t know whether to be angry because of Miller´s rudeness or laugh at his
immoral story. But because of Reeve´s higher rank, they did not comment on it. According to Lowes,
the change to realism represented in the Canterbury Tales, divides his works, for it is in progress
during the whole life and career. Instead of familiar Italian, French, and English periods, there should
be only two: the theory of convention and the period of realism. Bibliography:

decision. Since there are many choices involved, it is important to identify as many options as possible
so as to pick the option that best fits a company s target, goals, values and vision. Due to the integral
role of decision making in company growth and financial progress, many firms such as Amazon.com
and EBay are pumping in huge investments in business intelligence systems, which are made up of
certain technological tools and technological applications that are created for the purpose of
facilitating improved decision making process in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Web based DSS used at Amazon.com, for instance, provides the company with original, high risk,
company wide DSS that ease decision making and company growth in the highly competitive e
commerce market. DSS also increase the satisfaction level of the decision maker by minimizing the
frustrations involved in the process. In addition, DSS also reduce the costs associated with decision
making in a company. This is good news to managers and decision makers. DSS (especially Data
driven Decision Support Systems) also increase the level of control that managers and decision
makers have over the company. Decision Support Systems promote a learning culture in an
organization. Employees and managers learn new concepts and more efficient ways of improving the
organization, either as a byproduct of the application of DSS or from the direct implementation of
DSS as training tools. This learning process is good for the company s future decision making
processes. Disadvantages of Decision Support Systems Though DSS are integral to the decision
making process of organizations, it introduces some problems. For instance, DSS can overemphasize
decision making. Therefore, it is important that managers be exposed to other factors that contribute to
organizational success such as socio political factors. These factors should be considered when
building DSS. Another danger posed by DSS lies in their inappropriate use by managers who assume
that they are always

Santa Ana Dance Critique
My favorite dance of the Santa Ana Dance Festival was what you made me do from Canyon High
School. The choreographer of this dance was Andrea Greene.
The 3 reasons I liked this dance are the choreography, performance quality and technique.
I liked the choreography for this dance because of the use of space and the use of music. An example
from this dance is at the start I like how the music was the music was so perfect for this dance. Also
how they use their space was so perfect to see all of them doing their part.
I liked the performance quality for this dance because of the energy they have when they were doing
the lifts and how they make me feel. An example from this dance is the lift they were doing

Abstract:
The missing Malaysia Airline flight MH370 on March 8, 2014 is not only a technical mystery but
determines current weaknesses in technical, regulatory and organizational infrastructure of
international civil aviation. Safety culture of international civil aviation is the fundamental pillar of
success but unfortunately aerial disasters occur. This article discusses about missing Malaysia Airline
flight MH370 and the difficulties to manage search, rescue, accidental investigation, recovery efforts
and lessons learnt. Introduction:

In less than an hour after take off at 1:20 MYT, Malaysia Airline lost contact with air traffic controls.
Malaysia Airlines reported for the missing flight at 7:24 MYT carrying 239 passengers including 12
Malaysian crew.
The disappearance and supposedly crashed flight MH370 disturbed consumer confidence in the airline
with share prices falling. In a span of four months, another Malaysia Airline was shot down over
Ukraine. Even with the planned route airline earned criticism for travelling over conflict zone.
Malaysia Airlines was struggling for cost cutting to compete with a wave of new, low cost without a
distress signal. They lost almost US $137.4 million in the first quarter of 2014. Malaysian Airlines
made no profit since 2010. In last three years, Malaysia Airlines booked losses of US $1.25 billion.
The company s stock fell by 20% following the disappearance of Flight MH370 and had fallen 80%
over the previous five years. Following the disappearance, ticket sale had declined. Especially in
China it was down by 60% in the month of March. Also, there was a spike in resignation from the
flight crew though it was below industry norms.
Emergency Responses:
Final Contact: The final contact occurred at 1:19 MYT with air traffic control (ATC), when one of the
pilots replied Good night Malaysian Three Seven Zero . The crew was expected to contact ATC when
it passed into another area where the contact was lost.

Qualitative Data Evaluation
To analyze the results of evaluation, the evaluators will undertake a robust analysis to identify whether
or not there are any differences in patient characteristics and treatments provided by the six Victorian
hospitals to Aboriginal people and non Aboriginal people. The qualitative data will be transcribed and
analyzed by using NVivo software based on the evaluation frameworks. Whereas the quantitative data
would be assessed by using SPSS in order to measure the impacts of the policy directions, funding,
workforce competencies and performance to facilitate the change in service delivery. To strengthen the
validity of findings, we also conduct triangulation that will help to compare the qualitative data based
on the opinion of key stakeholders and quantitative data from any sources. After completing data
analysis, we will conduct a consultation with key stakeholders to discuss the preliminary findings, to
establish any conclusions, and then to identify a possible improvement for strengthening the evidence.
To eliminate the possible bias in justifying a conclusion, we will conduct some reflection by involving
Aboriginal people.

less control over its practice. Furthermore, the online survey might have low response rate and require
the most time for completing this survey. Concerning this condition, working together with the DHSS,
we need to conduct some workshop to inform and discuss the need of the evaluation and the potential
benefit by performing this

Client Alert Global Mining and Metals Industry Group April 2013 Glencore s Long March to Take
Over Xstrata First published in Mining Journal, April 2013 At long last, Glencore has overcome the
final regulatory hurdle and secured the approval of China s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) to
acquire the 66 percent of Xstrata that it does not already own. But not before agreeing to part with one
of the prized assets in Xstrata s portfolio, the Las Bambas copper project in Peru. If no suitable buyer
for Las Bambas is found by September 2014, Glencore will have to auction off one of its other copper
assets of MOFCOM s choosing. To clinch MOFCOM s blessing of the deal Glencore also committed

Ultimately, the Commission required the divestment of Glencore s minority stake (7 percent) in and
termination of its .8 recently renewed exclusive off take agreement with the world s largest zinc
smelter, Nyrstar, originally due to run until 2018, as conditions to approving the transaction. As part of
the deal with the Commission, struck in late November 2012, Glencore also committed not to enter
into any other commercial arrangements with Nyrstar for ten years. The clearance came despite the
concerns expressed by the European Steel Association (EUROFER), whose members purchase much
of the commodity grade zinc traded in Europe for use as corrosion resistant coatings (galvanizing) in
steel products. MOFCOM took its time in reviewing the transaction almost twice the normal
maximum statutory period allowed for merger reviews under China s Anti Monopoly Law, which can
last up to 180 days. As MOFCOM noted in its published decision, the parties withdrew their filing
towards the end of the statutory review period, and then re submitted the filing. This pull and refile
effectively reset the clock on the review time line and provided MOFCOM with extra time to review
the transaction. It s to be expected and entirely legitimate for a country s competition authority to
thoroughly examine a transaction that has potentially anticompetitive impacts on its industries and
consumers, and to focus on such aspects of the transaction that pose the most threat to

International Car Buying Behaviour
Total worldwide sales of premium luxury and entry luxury saloons and sports cars are of the order of
1.5 million units a year (Scheele, 1995: 190). The major luxury markets today are the USA, Germany,
UK and Japan. The £21.1 billion UK new car market competes with France and Italy, to be the second
biggest in Europe behind Germany (Harbour, 1997: 7,22). The new registration of luxury marques
cars in 1997 in UK alone was 154,506 units (MAVEL, 1997: 59). In other markets, especially in South
East Asia there are, of course, significant sales of luxury cars. However, these are limited to total
volume either by the overall industry size or by local market conditions and preferences. Accordingly,
the luxury car market overall is currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is
because retail customers are amateur purchasers who spend their own money for non routine
consumption. Thus, they seek to gain experiential or symbolic (Keller, 1993) benefits from the car
brand instead. This demonstrates that there exist differences in specificity among individual
customers. Specificity may depend largely on how buyers discriminate, between essential and special
need (Oliver, 1997: 54) in importance: in other words needs and wants. If some buyers regard
importance as meaning essential, then all requisite features of the cars, such as maximum speed,
acceleration rate, horse power, and engine size become very important. On the other hand, if buyers
perceive importance as a special need, then some features may not be anticipated. For example, if the
luxury car buyer is only interested in the country of origin of the brand (German in this case), then the
technical characteristics will be unimportant. When customers seek to purchase a product, they pay
attention to whether the product will satisfy basic needs and desires in their lives. Here, the fleet car
customers have the basic needs (to choose a cost effective car), and desires (to possess a luxury car).
The most reasonable choice is Lexus GS300 SE. However, most retail customers have a more
preferable attitude towards BMW 728i. When having to select among alternatives, customers are
interested in differences across brands in the same product

Imagery In The Man I Killed And Ambush
In the short stories The Man I Killed and Ambush, one of Tim O Brien s purposes is to describe how
society wrongfully portrays soldiers gain a sense of pride and victory when they take lives of other
human beings instead of the guilt driven battle they have to deal with for the rest of their lives. O
Brien tries to disprove this theory and instead show they are actually stuck with this tragedy for the
rest of their lives as they lose their innocence and sense of humanity. O Brien shows this through the
use of imagery to portray and help develop this concept/theme. O Brien describes through vivid
imagery and details in, The Man I Killed, the dead man s eye, His one eye shut, his other eye was a
star shaped hole (118). Here O Brien uses this imagery to symbolize the star shape of the dead man s
eye as a sign of hope as a shooting star, yet, he ties this beautiful image with death, to show that his
hope/future has betrayed him. O Brien purposefully places this star shaped wound on the soldier s eye,
for it is with the eyes that both the dead man and O Brien gaze upon the stars in the sky. As if he was
gazing more upon the stars, upon his future, which in this case his future comes to an end with O
Brien s fatal doing. O Brien s innocence has left him as he has become in a sense dirty after taking this
man s life. So, in this case, O Brien has not taken this killing with pride and victory, but with sadness
and guilt. This goes back to his purpose to show that soldiers

developed in English, with 7 positive items and 7 negative items rated on a 5 point Likert scale. Five
years after the introduction of PSS 14, it was shortened to 10 items (PSS 10). A four item PSS (PSS 4)
was also introduced as a brief version for situations requiring a very short scale of telephone

validity of the PSS was evaluated only in a few studies; the criteria used were all questionnaires that

Many people have no clue how their finances work or how they are managed. Most people just know

Accounting is a very broad and large field of study where a person with a degree has many career
options. Many people s ideal job in the accounting field would be forensic accounting for the FBI.
Accountants are the people who prepare and examine financial records, ensure taxes are paid and filed
properly, and help businesses run their finances smoothly. Forensic accounting is a more specific job
where they looking for fraud or money laundering in a company. Forensic accountants need to not
only be good with numbers and money, but should also be able to quickly spot abnormalities in the

major. Most colleges require around a 3.5 GPA to be accepted into the business school. To receive an
accounting degree, one must complete a five year, 150 credit hour accounting program (awards a
bachelor s or master s degree) ( Accountants and Auditors. Missouri). 150 hours is much more than

Salvation Military Research Paper
There are many opportunities to give back to people every day. It could be the time you give someone
or something they need to sustain them, and keep them going. The fundamentals of giving back are
often seen through charity work or even so much as donating a few items of clothing. I, however,
decided to devote my time to feeding the homeless through the Salvation Army. One day, while sitting
in church listening to our Pastor give a sermon about helping others I felt something inside me that
made me talk to my friend and her husband about something we could do to help others. While doing
our research we found out that The Salvation Army can only accommodate a certain amount of people
and because of this, many people lie under bridges, on benches around town, and in or near abandoned

Descriptive Essay On The Wrecking Ball
The Wrecking Ball The crowd screamed and surged as they looked up at the gleaming escalator. He
descended proudly, nodding approvingly at their expectant and trusting faces. All of their dreams and
hopes came down with him, reaching the high point as he stepped off at the very bottom. Over in the
expansive ballroom, just beneath the majestic chandelier, hang his best surprise yet. The wrecking ball
swayed slowly and gently, waiting to pick up some speed. He knew it was right there, but for now, he
would work the crowd. When they were all charged up into a great frenzy, he pointed at the toy above
their heads. Together, they would play for many days to come. He would aim, they would cheer, and
on and on it would go. He was going to swing as far and as high as possible. He had many targets. He
would hit one at a time, hard enough to knock, flatten, and obliterate it forever. Far beyond the adoring
crowd were those others who jeered in spite. He looked over and took aim at the women standing tall.
They knew him from before and were sure he was no good. He would not let them ruin his dreams,
and so he took aim directly at their heads. How dare they stand their ground against him and his
dream? He would show them who was boss after that cherished inaugural. Way over in the trenches,
the immigrants toiled for their dreams. He gave them a once over and saw a bunch of crooks. He
pulled the lever again and aimed at the busy lot. The crowd cheered yet again as the ball flew through
the air. With nowhere safe to turn, the immigrants looked up for help. The ball was getting closer, and
they prayed that help would come soon. He was getting even more frenzied, and the brothers and
sisters were next. Not feeling included had them taking pause. How well did he know them or care for
what they cherished? After pushing them away, he was mad at them now. He pulled and aimed the ball
right for their centre. First, he would scatter their faith to end their unity. He would pit one against the
other and race to a sure victory. He would call them cheaters and suppress their big turnouts. He
would bring doubt to the trusted process. He looked out to the back and saw the media in full form. If
he could just break their pens and

Marco Polo s Influence On Chinese Culture
Chinese culture has remained a true marvel, and often, a mystery, to the outside world since the
beginning of its earliest dynasties. Its value of isolating itself from the rest of the world has defined
and concentrated its unique culture, which now shines starkly against the background of the rest of the
modern world. In some cases, Chinese society holds tightly onto aspects of its culture even when the
rest of the world appears to be moving on. This mindset is demonstrated within the ancient Chinese
lunar calendar and astrology system. Though slightly modernized to fit within the present day, these
systems have rooted themselves deeply into Chinese society from their small scale beginnings and still

Almost 4,000 years later, Marco Polo, a Venetian explorer, documented how he witnessed astrology
dictating the actions of the Chinese people he encountered. In his journals, he described how when a a
child is born, the day, time, planet, and sign is recorded so that if later in life the person wants to make
an important decision, such as begin a journey, they would be able to consult an astrologer to approve
or redirect their actions ( Marco Polo: The Book of Marvels (Ca. 1324) ). In fact, there was so much
respect for astrologers at this time, and such a widespread belief that political happenings were
reflected in the stars, that they were often put into positions of bureaucratic power. Astrology thus
became integrated with government and therefore agriculture ( Astronomical Illustration from Zhou
Dynasty ). Around 100 AD in northern China, a government issued farming calendar was written to be
aligned with the stars, earth, and moon. It instructed farmers what jobs to do and when to do them, like
sowing, harvesting, and preparing through the winter, as well as when to conduct religious ceremonies
(Lai Po 10). Astrologers provided a sense of stability and predictability, which the citizens flocked to,
so the science was able to be deeply rooted within the communities. In China s earliest history, most
aspects of society revolved around the tendencies of the encompassing celestial

  • 2. Summer Concert Report Being in the Youth Orchestras of Fresno for the past 5 years, I have had the pleasure of working on some of the most incredible pieces in orchestra literature. I ve been a part of some special concerts, like performing Stravinsky s Rite of Spring, Bernstein s On the Waterfront, Symphony No. 12 by Shostakovich, Short Ride in a Fast Machine by Adams, and Mussorgsky s Pictures at an Exhibition, but there is one piece in particular that has made a huge impact on me and many people in the Central Valley in California. Premiering Water(less) Music), by Dr. Ben Boone, was written for the Youth Orchestras of Fresno two years ago while California was, and still is, experiencing a severe drought. Water(less) Music features recorded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It made me realize that this drought has had a huge impact, and how a lot of people in California aren t really taking this situation very seriously. After the premiere in Fresno, and performing Water(less) Music again at the Walt Disney Concert Hall the following summer, I started to become more aware of the amount of water that my family and I have been using. I never imagined that my actions, such as allowing water to run while brushing my teeth or having the sprinklers on too long, could cause hardship for people in the Central Valley. Since the Central Valley is an agriculture based economy, the drought has caused many people a loss in crops, income, and even jobs. It actually affected my family directly. My grandfather is a raisin farmer and has experienced a decrease in the size of his crop over the last five years. The word drought can have different meanings to different people, depending on how a shortage of water affects them. I will always remember how performing this piece impacted my understanding of the drought. As I look into the next few years of my life, and consider the possibility of moving out of California for college, I will always remember to conserve water no matter where I live. The experience of premiering Water(less) Music gave me a deeper appreciation for the importance of water that I once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Television and the Internet Television and The Internet Having already done my fair share of internet surfing, I was excited to finally have the opportunity to do a research paper that involved this vast and seemingly boundless electronic world. It is easy to passively interact with the rest of the world and scan effortlessly through millions of pages of information, some of which is useful, some of which simply takes up space; the problem that many researchers and interest groups face is making sense of the whole thing. What effects does the internet have on people? This question is no doubt an immense one. In this paper I will attempt to explore the effects the internet has on one major aspect of our everyday lives: television. The internet is not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The information on characters can include both their fictional roles and their real life situation. (Sites devoted to some of the better looking actors and actresses seem to be a very popular attraction). Therefore, if someone wanted to inquire about an aspect of a series, which will most likely enhance his or her experience for the show, the information is available in minutes. For example, I was curious as to who wrote one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, The Monorail. Within one minute, I had discovered that Conan O Brien had written it, enhancing my appreciation for both The Simpsons and his talk show. Most official sites, either sponsored by the show or the network, provide scripts to past episodes and details on, or clues to, future episodes; often explaining the motivations and/or hidden agendas behind many of the episodes. People from around the world can either follow a show that they don t have access to (see responses 5, 15), perhaps in a different country, or read the summaries of episodes that they have missed. Included in these sites are popular images and sounds of the characters, trivia based on the episode, internet treasure hunts, as well as other interactive elements; all promoting increased interest in the show as well as rampant discussions on the chat lines and newsgroups. One of the most popular interactive events on the internet was a Who Shot Mr. Burns? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. College Athletes Be Paid Imagine you ve just graduated a four school and you have crazy debt and you are paying medical bills because you got hurt playing a sport. Which brings the question should College athletes be paid the right the athletes deserve? I believe the athletes should be paid. The college athletes are playing a game for the school and paying for their education at their school/ university. Others may say the athletes are paid with a free education but that s one and a million who don t pay anything. The evidence I found stated I believe that we should provide a student athlete with a scholarship that covers the full cost of attendance at his or her university for the entire academic year, i.e. including summer school.(D Andrea). This quote is saying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I wouldn t label earning a free college education exploitation.(Kieran). This shows how people don t value education. Also i found that the athletes dont get paid cause they re not adults College athletes don t get paid because they re not adults, real NCAA executive actually says.(D andrea). This quote shows the reasoning of not why they don t get paid. Lastly the scholarships Athletic scholarships are their compensation and a fair one at that. Essentially they receive a free education and in return they represent the school in a certain sport. College athletes don t have to worry about student loans, paying for textbooks, the cost of on campus living, and meal plans.(Kieran) . This quote explains what a scholarship is. As stated the counter argument is very debatable because it s how you look at it. As you can see that college athletes should be paid no matter what the circumstances. Throughout the essay i proved that the cost is too much for some familie just to pay outright to go to school and also the full ride scholarships don t cover all the costs. Also the athletes aren t being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Structure of the American Government The 3 Branches of Government The constitution was established by men who had experienced the dictatorships of Europe and had escaped from its grasp. They sought to establish a form of government that would never allow a dictatorship or tyrant ruler to hold power over the people like in the places they had fled. With their creation of the foundation of what our government is today they created a system where 3 branches were all of equal power and each could be overruled by another which prevented any branch becoming superior of another. The separation of powers provides a system of shared power called Checks and Balances.(2) The three branches are legislative, judicial and executive and they each have specific powers to balance those of ... This means that each employee of the firm will do its best to help every person who meets and who needs help. For example, the British newspaper THE INDEPENDENT explains that Tesco has developed a new strategy to help its clients to overcome the global economic crisis. Tesco set up a discount strategy to consumers struggling with the effects of the credit crunch . It creates the pay day strategy (Evans S., 2009). In fact, it tries to simplify the lives of its customers and of its employees. In conclusion, TESCO through its motto is trying to circulate an idea; a habit and a behavior to address face each person; each employee is a sort of flagship of the enterprise; one person is enough to give a bad image, in order that many people think that TESCO is a bad company, all of this is due because of the word of mouth. TESCO has created a corporate culture in order that does not happen with another surface manifestation. Norms Secondly in this second paragraph we talk about the norms of TESCO. In fact Mottoes have concerned the way in which employees should act within the company in relation to clients and colleagues. But the company also uses a strategy to boost its employees. When using characters to symbolize real life feelings and situations, it helps readers feel like they too are going through the same things as the characters. In stories, symbolism is a prime element that helps everything come together, and grabs the reader s attention, causing them to see the text s hidden message. During The Metamorphosis, Kafka forces the reader to really get into Gregor s thoughts, giving a personal intuition to anyone reading this short story. Symbolism is a key component in The Metamorphosis ; connecting characters to Kafka s life, taking the reader inside Gregor s head, and showing the course characters change with time. Having characters represent Kafka s life turns an unrealistic story into relatable material. Kafka struggled with family problems throughout his entire life, and growing up he felt useless as if he was an unwanted vermin. This helps the reader make sense of the reading, forcing them to relate Gregor s feelings to a real person. This shows how within a few weeks Gregor s family went from loving him to wanting to hurt him. It symbolizes betrayal and how they suddenly view Gregor as a burden. • 11. Analysis Of Petruchio In Don Quixote Chivalry is dead, this is a phrase which is often heard in today s society. Many seem to believe that there is little if not no chivalry in the world today, but what about in times past then? Was chivalry truly a constant presence in the past or are there exceptions to this statement as well? In order to analyze this question a look at the character Petruchio from Don Quixote will be done. This tale is often seen as one that has chivalrous characters who work towards their end goals, but this particular character has often been credited with overthrowing the concepts of chivalry as well. These facts combined make for an interesting study on the idea of chivalry. When Petruchio is first introduced into the story he immediately draws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of these examples are just from Petruchio and Kate s wedding alone, and yet Petruchio character shines through. Chivalrous acts would have included arriving on time to his own wedding, being respectful enough towards his future wife to dress properly, and never referring to his new wife as a piece of property to do with as he wishes. Unfortunately, none of this happened though. The final, perhaps most glaring example of dishonorable actions towards Kate comes from Petruchio s continued attempts to tame her. A chivalrous act is often considered something that is noble and kind, something done for another person. What could easily be labeled as the most dishonorable choice that Petruchio makes in all of this is assuming the air of chivalry to defend his actions. He claims to love Kate so much that he does not want her subjected to inferior things, but the truth is he uses methods such as starvation and sleep deprivation in order to control her. His actions in the end prove to appear fruitful because it seems as though by the end of the tale she is an obedient and submissive wife, and he has managed to still appear chivalrous to some just by this fact alone, because to them he has managed to tame the shrew that was Kate. In conclusion, a chivalrous person was and is to this day considered someone who is brave, honorable, courteous, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arnie In What s Eating Gilbert Grape First off, I would like to begin by saying I am truly appalled by the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio did not win an Oscar for his role as Arnie in What s Eating Gilbert Grape. The entire time I was watching the movie, I was stunned by his performance, questioning whether or not he had an actual mental disability, even though I know he does not. By doing my research, I discovered that prior to filming, Leo visited a school for mentally ill and autistic teenagers, adopting the characteristics of voice, manner, and behavior from the different students at the school. By putting all of these different characteristics together, he created his own character who was the true center of this film. Analysis Of Albert Camus s Speech People choose every day in different circumstances and degrees either small imperceptible one, such as the color of the shirt that they will wear, or huge emotional and moral dilemmas like an abort or a high risk surgery. Nonetheless, there is always a decision made that has its consequences (want or not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address the importance of choices. The author uses the character of Balducci to show what happens when people follow the rules without hesitation. For example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave the Arab with Daru, and Daru shows himself discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says, Those are the orders (Camus). Balducci as a man of law must follow whatever thing is said to him, and he will do it for sure without dubiety; in addition, Balducci remarks, [Y]ou must sign, that s the rule (Camus). He has to obey all the requisites and commandments that his work dictates, and he can t avoid doing this because he will break all the goodness that justice represents. In other words, this case offers insight into how some businesses and their employees might react to federal law requirements. Several studies sought to investigate the effect of the universal health reform and its impact on the labor market outcomes, such as the unemployment rate and average wage (Buchmueller, 2013; Kolstad, 2012). Specificity may depend largely on how buyers discriminate, between essential and special need (Oliver, 1997: 54) in importance: in other words needs and wants. If some buyers regard importance as meaning essential, then all requisite features of the cars, such as maximum speed, acceleration rate, horse power, and engine size become very important. Imagery In The Man I Killed And Ambush In the short stories The Man I Killed and Ambush, one of Tim O Brien s purposes is to describe how society wrongfully portrays soldiers gain a sense of pride and victory when they take lives of other human beings instead of the guilt driven battle they have to deal with for the rest of their lives. O Brien tries to disprove this theory and instead show they are actually stuck with this tragedy for the rest of their lives as they lose their innocence and sense of humanity. O Brien shows this through the use of imagery to portray and help develop this concept/theme. O Brien describes through vivid imagery and details in, The Man I Killed, the dead man s eye, His one eye shut, his other eye was a star shaped hole (118). Here O Brien uses this imagery to symbolize the star shape of the dead man s eye as a sign of hope as a shooting star, yet, he ties this beautiful image with death, to show that his hope/future has betrayed him. O Brien purposefully places this star shaped wound on the soldier s eye, for it is with the eyes that both the dead man and O Brien gaze upon the stars in the sky. As if he was gazing more upon the stars, upon his future, which in this case his future comes to an end with O Brien s fatal doing. O Brien s innocence has left him as he has become in a sense dirty after taking this man s life. So, in this case, O Brien has not taken this killing with pride and victory, but with sadness and guilt. This goes back to his purpose to show that soldiers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Lee (2012), the original instrument is a 14 item scale (PSS 14) that was developed in English, with 7 positive items and 7 negative items rated on a 5 point Likert scale. Five years after the introduction of PSS 14, it was shortened to 10 items (PSS 10). A four item PSS (PSS 4) was also introduced as a brief version for situations requiring a very short scale of telephone interviews and the PSS is currently translated into 25 languages other than English. The criterion validity of the PSS was evaluated only in a few studies; the criteria used were all questionnaires that showed a weak to moderate association, demonstrating unsatisfactory criterion validity (Lee, 2012). • 33. Salvation Military Research Paper There are many opportunities to give back to people every day. It could be the time you give someone or something they need to sustain them, and keep them going. The fundamentals of giving back are often seen through charity work or even so much as donating a few items of clothing. I, however, decided to devote my time to feeding the homeless through the Salvation Army. One day, while sitting in church listening to our Pastor give a sermon about helping others I felt something inside me that made me talk to my friend and her husband about something we could do to help others. While doing our research we found out that The Salvation Army can only accommodate a certain amount of people and because of this, many people lie under bridges, on benches around town, and in or near abandoned buildings. ... These items were essentials that were desperately needed by these people, and the money we raised in order to get these items went a long way. We were very nervous about just walking up to people and passing these things out, the idea of a stranger coming up to you and handing you items is a scary thought in itself, but being on the other end is even scarier because you don t know how others will react. But we did it. and found that they were very grateful for things we bought and were very thankful that we took the time out of our day to come to help them. We made many more trips downtown to drop off things as we received them. After about a month and a half making two to three trips downtown to hand out these items was tiring, but the reactions these people had, and the kindness we received as we made our drop offs was a reward in ... • 35. Descriptive Essay On The Wrecking Ball The Wrecking Ball The crowd screamed and surged as they looked up at the gleaming escalator. He descended proudly, nodding approvingly at their expectant and trusting faces. All of their dreams and hopes came down with him, reaching the high point as he stepped off at the very bottom. Over in the expansive ballroom, just beneath the majestic chandelier, hang his best surprise yet. The wrecking ball swayed slowly and gently, waiting to pick up some speed. He knew it was right there, but for now, he would work the crowd. When they were all charged up into a great frenzy, he pointed at the toy above their heads. Together, they would play for many days to come. He would aim, they would cheer, and on and on it would go. He was going to swing as far and as high as possible. He had many targets. He would hit one at a time, hard enough to knock, flatten, and obliterate it forever. Far beyond the adoring crowd were those others who jeered in spite. He would pit one against the other and race to a sure victory. He would call them cheaters and suppress their big turnouts. He would bring doubt to the trusted process. • 36. Marco Polo s Influence On Chinese Culture Chinese culture has remained a true marvel, and often, a mystery, to the outside world since the beginning of its earliest dynasties. Its value of isolating itself from the rest of the world has defined and concentrated its unique culture, which now shines starkly against the background of the rest of the modern world. In some cases, Chinese society holds tightly onto aspects of its culture even when the rest of the world appears to be moving on. This mindset is demonstrated within the ancient Chinese lunar calendar and astrology system. Though slightly modernized to fit within the present day, these systems have rooted themselves deeply into Chinese society from their small scale beginnings and still manage to influence daily life, regardless ... In his journals, he described how when a a child is born, the day, time, planet, and sign is recorded so that if later in life the person wants to make an important decision, such as begin a journey, they would be able to consult an astrologer to approve or redirect their actions ( Marco Polo: The Book of Marvels (Ca. 1324) ). In fact, there was so much respect for astrologers at this time, and such a widespread belief that political happenings were reflected in the stars, that they were often put into positions of bureaucratic power. Astrology thus became integrated with government and therefore agriculture ( Astronomical Illustration from Zhou Dynasty ). Around 100 AD in northern China, a government issued farming calendar was written to be aligned with the stars, earth, and moon. It instructed farmers what jobs to do and when to do them, like sowing, harvesting, and preparing through the winter, as well as when to conduct religious ceremonies (Lai Po 10). Astrologers provided a sense of stability and predictability, which the citizens flocked to, so the science was able to be deeply rooted within the communities.
