Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment
God Answers the Questions Presented by Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and
Punishment
In Dostoevsky s novels pain and some heavy burden of the inevitability of human suffering and
helplessness form Russia. And he depicts it not with white gloves on, nor through the blisters of the
peasant, but through people who are close to him and his realities: city people who either have faith,
or secular humanists who are so remote from reality that even when they love humanity they despise
humans because of their own inability to achieve or to create paradise on earth. His novels The
Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment are best examples of the poisonous effect of such
ideals on the common man. The rebellion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is not the love that is directed towards the humanity as a whole, but towards the individual: Strive
to love your neighbor actively and indefatigably (II, 4). For Dostoevsky such love is a false one and he
presents it through such characters as Rakitin, Perkhotin and even Luzhin:
Consciousness of life is superior to life, knowledge of the laws of happiness is superior to happiness
that is what we must fight against. (The Dream of a Ridiculous Man , p. 382)
One of greatest evils for Dostoevsky are the so called liberals who love humanity more than an
individual man. Yet he does not represent their behavior as genuinely evil . Their hate towards
humanity arises exactly from the opposite: love. Secular humanists see so much evil, crime and
inhumanity, they cannot stop it so they rebel. Ivan Karamazov and his rebellion are purely of that
kind. He is not vile, he just cannot understand that there might be a solution for such suffering,
especially in the case of children who are innocent in Christianity. That is why Ivan asks:
Love life more than the meaning of it? (II, 3)
Ivan as any average intellectual, wants to know. To know the meaning of life for him is more
important than to actually do something about the human suffering. Ivan forgets that one human life is
as important as the entire humanity. For him humanity is merely an abstraction which happen to be
surrounding him.

The Effects Of Anger On The Social Function Of Anger
It is suggested by many that the main social function of anger is to change someone else s behaviour
in order to gain a better outcome for oneself (Fischer Roseman, 2007). However, whether anger is a
beneficial to us or not, is widely disputed (Fischer Roseman, 2007). First, the social functionists
perspective on the social function of anger will be discussed by evaluating Hutcherson Gross study
(2011). Furthermore, Choi and Murdock s (2017) study on anger expression, interpersonal conflict and
depression symptoms will be explained and evaluated by introducing Chue et al. s (2017) findings.
Finally it will be argued that anger can help to create and maintain a hierarchy within social groups by
evaluating Callister, Geddes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, anger is a response to a situation in which one is threatened to lose personal freedom
and/or possessions. In this case, the social function of anger is to eliminate or change the specific
behaviours, observed by the self as direct intimidations, in order to gain a better outcome (Fischer
Roseman, 2007). Evidence for the social functionalist perspective on the social function of anger was
provided by Fischer Roseman (2007). They hypothesised anger belongs to the attack emotion family
with the social function of changing other people s behaviour through attacking in order to gain a
more desirable outcome for oneself. Furthermore, they suggested after the anger has settled, the
attacking behaviour can have positive long term effects on the relationship with the attacked person.
Fischer Roseman tested the hypothesis as follows: they asked 94 students (30 men, 64 women) to
recall and describe a situation in which they felt either anger or contempt, but not both (conditions
were assigned randomly). After, participants were handed a questionnaire regarding the described
situation and were asked to rate them on a 7 point Likert scale (1= not applicable; 7= very applicable).
Questions, for example, measured emotional strength, two types of immediate responses (verbal attack
vs withdrawals) and also long term responses toward the person involved in the scenario to measure
reconciliation and rejection.

Living Well Chapter 8 Summary
Living well: Chapter 8 A living will is a legal document that indicates whether a patient wants to be
placed on life prolonging machines (also known as life support) should he or she be unable to
communicate personal preferences. Anyone can fill out and place a living will in his or her medical
record, but it must be notarized or signed by two witnesses to be considered legal. Regulations on
living wills vary from state to state, so it is best to obtain one from a local medical facility or consult a
lawyer. So therefore, if the patient does not want life support he or she will have to state it in the living
will, then the patient cannot be on any machines. For instance, if the patient was to be placed on any
machines before the living will was discovered then the medical team will have to start ... Show more

In real life, regardless of what the statutes state, the surrogate is a real person, not just a piece of paper.
Other cases from gallupnews.com come from people all around the world like some people don t want
living wills or have difficulties doing a living. Edward Kahn, a New Jersey attorney whose law firm
concentrates in wills and trusts, says he expected to see interest in living wills increase after the
Schiavo case, and was surprised when his office didn t have that experience. It s an important
document to have ... I find that most of my clients do not want to be kept alive artificially if there s no
hope, Kahn says. Not only do they not want to burden their families, they don t want to live if they can

factor in whether people have living wills. The tendency to have a living will increases with age.
Nineteen percent of 18 to 29 year olds say they have living wills, as do 32% of 30 to 49 year olds,
46% of 50 to 64 year olds, and 67% of those 65 and

The Death Of Edward II
It was 1307 and Edward I who was sixty eight at the time of his death would now pass the throne to
his son Edward II. Edward II who was Lord of Caernarfon, prince of Wales, duke of Aquitaine, earl of
Chester and count of Pontheiu would now inherit a war with Scotland from his father. Edward II was
rather a particular fellow with unusual hobbies that he showed throughout his reign. Evidence points
that Edward II may have had a relationship with Piers Gaveston, but also he had been banished from
the kingdom by his father Edward I. This incident or should I say interest in men would become one
of the biggest problems throughout all of his reign. Piers Gaveston was disliked very much by
parliament and several times was banished by Edward I during his reign. Edward II would also come
to marry Isabella the daughter of Phillip IV , which in the end led to the end of his reign, but before
we get to that, there was also a man named Hugh Despenser that would become an affectionate friend
for Edward II after Piers Gaveston death. Piers Gaveston caused much trouble for Lancaster and
Warwick. He was hated by them significantly that in 1312 he was captured and executed by them and
it caused much pain for the king who loved Gaveston much. Edward II losing his best friend and
possibly lover was forced to now rely more on his queen, Isabella, which would prove to improve the
relationship of both them during their brief time reigning together. Isabella loved Edward II very
much, but

Health Care Administrators
Statement of the problem
The provision of quality and affordable patient care is a challenging aspect because of the
complexities of health care organizations and its systems. Health care organizations accrues
challenges in delivery, accessibility, financing, determining the outcome of health care services,
organization pricing and in making decisions for health related issues. As such, this has increased
public dissatisfaction in the provision of health care service in America.

A hospital administrator helps in the communication process by letting the patient know about the
hospital procedure by creating a patient care program that address the patient needs and reduce their
anxiety. Nonetheless, hospital administrators also have management duties which include planning,
staffing, coordinating, reporting, evaluation, organization and staffing. The management function of
the hospital administrators requires a lot of knowledge, reasoning, foresight and acquisition of special
techniques and experience. In addition, hospital administrators aid in the hospital decision making
process through providing dynamic and flexible insight to help the organization make informed
choices. The focus of hospital administration is to ensure that the management process is running
efficiently and its decisions comply with hospital policies and federal laws. More pertinently, hospital
administrators help in supervision and coordination of workers by ensuring they perform their
required tasks with the assigned hospital resources on the stipulated period. In fact, the administration
help in carrying out hospital inventories to help improve service provision. In conclusion, it is evident
that hospital administrators play a critical role in improving quality care through establishing best

Trader Joe s Analysis

The Industry
The grocery industry in the United States is currently an attractive industry (a.k.a. profitable).
This attractiveness derives from the relative low threat of new entrants, low supplier and buyer
powers, and low threat of substitutes. The main factors driving these results are the low concentration
of suppliers and buyers, the significant barriers to entry due to high up front investment costs (for
infrastructure and distribution channels) and scale economies, low availability of substitutes 1, and the
threat of retaliation from incumbents (by lowering price, for example). However, it is ... Show more

In addition, customers complaints with parking could ultimately lead them to choose bigger stores or
other small footprint ones.
Given the situation described in the previous paragraphs and on the exhibits, Trader Joe s should
consider the following two recommendations for its future growth: Start a social media campaign and
emphasize on the organic food movement by branding organic products with the Trader
Joe s name.
For the social media campaign to match TJ s culture, the company should emphasize on artsy online
platforms such as Instagram, to integrate photos and hashtags, Twitter, to tweet about new products or
recipes, and Vimeo, to upload videos of their recipes, instead of Facebook and
YouTube which go beyond the TJ s target market of educated individuals. Also, in order to take
advantage of smart devices, TJ should develop an app for iOS and Android that could integrate both
platforms, the online website, and the online fan base that currently exists.
Trader Joe s should also engage in branding its own line of organic products (including meats).
Since competition is rapidly moving into TJ s strategic group (given the low mobility barriers), the
company should make use of its established brand (associated with quality and uniqueness) and strong
supplier relations in order to further enhance its participation on

The Creation Of Western Civilization
From its beginnings at the foundation of ancient Greece, our present humanity has evolved itself to be
focused on the value of each individual. The contradiction in terms of Western civilization, however,
was also was made obvious right from the start. The Greek s attention on individuals arose from a
slavery based society. The focus on individual rights created both a democratic system and an increase
in learning, as well as scientific revolutions that would remain unique until the Renaissance. Adding
onto the Greek groundwork, the Romans furthered another significant keystone of Western
civilization; the establishment of laws. Through the collapse of Rome and increasing Germanic
barbarian invasions, the foundations of Western civilization had fundamentally vanished. They were
not put back into effect until the Italian Renaissance inspired massive attention to the traditional texts.
As a result, a change in European thinking switched from The Almighty back to the individual.
Starting chiefly as a theocratic and nationalist movement, the Reformation in Germany provided an
assortment of nationwide securities. It prohibited the Roman Church from restricting academic
discussion in northern Europe. New translations of the Bible also resulted in the expansion of vulgar
languages which encouraged literacy and education. The Enlightenment brought us even closer to
achieving westernized democracy, inquiring deeper into both religion and tyranny. Many French
philosophers held an

Rio Tinto receives the health and safety benefits by reducing the risks that is happening on the mine
sites, such as reducing the labor exposure to landslides and geotechnical risks. This is the main reason
for the deployment of automated systems in the mine sites through the MOF project. It does not only
reduces the risk but also reduces the cost of money spent on labors in order to increase the production
when there is a sudden demand for the product and also reduces the environmental related issues and
social impacts that are said to be created due to the presence of the mine

Loopy Lydia Diary
Short story
Seven days ago, something awful happened. I m only writing this diary entry as I need to get my anger
and frustration out some way. The guilt inside me is eating me alive it s growing and growing. The
pain is invading my whole body. Let me start from the beginning, then will it all begin to make sense.
I hated the man with a passion, the mere thought of him made me sick to my stomach. You could say
that I haven t been the same since that day. I hardly eat and I like to keep to myself. The girls in my
school call me loopy Lydia. It s only because I don t speak in class and I prefer to draw then speak.
People think I don t understand, what they say, they think I m crazy when in actual fact I can
understand. They say that I have pale, lifeless eyes and that I seem like I m in catatonic state but if
only they knew. My mum knows and I hate that she knows. She had the power to do something to stop
it, to stop that disgusting act. But she didn t, she stood there and watched. She cried and watched but
she didn t stop him. She sat in the corner while it all happened. For 8 years of my life I called that man
my father and now I can t even look him in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My mum left me in the kitchen to make breakfast when he came up to me, I was cutting up some
mushrooms when I felt his hot breath on my neck. He held my arm and began to turn me, I was
resisting as much as I could but he was so strong. I didn t know what to do, so I just jerked my hand
and he fell. It was an accident I swear but I don t regret it. I can picture it in my head right now as I m
writing; his cold body lay on the floor in a pool of crimson; I can picture his face as the blood drained
away and I can picture my mum, she was motionless like a statue. A tear drizzling down her cheeks. I
remember her cradling him and whispering he same five words: Where did we go wrong? . I m
writing this because now nobody will talk to

False Christian Teaching
Many people can teach the Gospel, but few can present it in a way of compelling and authentic
manner. Through his teachings to the Ephesians, Ignatius provides beneficial concepts for Christianity
that are crucial for the Church to pursue. He commends the Ephesians to live in unity and communion
with God, respect the authority placed over them, and stray from false teachings. His thought
provoking ideas are absent from believers today and should be more vividly displayed in the lives of
Christians.
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same
function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others
(New International Version, Romans 12:4 5). Christians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ignatius praised the Ephesians for staying strong in their faith when false teachers came to cripple
their beliefs. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep s clothing, but inward they are
ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits (New International Version, Matthew 7:15). It is
difficult when a convincing person attempts to change your hopes and beliefs because they can be so
sly and can twist thoughts. However, sticking to what is true, holy, and pleasing to God is the only
way to dodge the destruction of the Christian mind. False prophets and teachers have no place in the
lives of Christians and should not be able to sway strong beliefs and claims. The Church today is
victim to fictitious instruction and must remain faithful to what they know is true in God the Father.
Ignatius teachings to the Ephesians will ultimately benefit the Church if they are lived out everyday.
He instructed them to live as one in Christ Jesus, to respect the authority over them, and to stray from
false prophets who seek to corrupt their minds. If Christians today began to pursue these ideas, the
world as a whole would benefit greatly because Christ would shine so brightly in and through them.
Ignatius teachings not only left an impact on the Ephesians, but continue to impact the Church as they
are applied to Christians everyday

The Effects Of Social Anxiety On Higher Education
To begin we take a look at two studies that were done on college students and the effects of social
anxiety in higher education, researchers were able to conclude that social anxiety does have an impact
on the wellbeing and success of students in each study. In our first study, students from Sydney,
Australia, were accessed using many psychological tests, scales, and inventories to obtain scores for
accurate study. The topic of the study is Impairments in Goal directed actions that predict treatment
response to cognitive behavioral therapy in social anxiety. The participants who were involved gave
written consent to be a part of this study, and those who were on medications were properly stabilized
before participation began. This study involved showing participants fractal images of food as a
reward to measure goal directed actions in predicting treatment response to cognitive behavioral
therapy (Alvares, G. A., Balleine, B. W., Guastella, A. J. (2014). Anxiety has been argued to be related
to an inability to process rewarding information appropriately to guide actions (Alvares, et. al, 2014)
and changes in outcome values (Alvares, et.al, 2014). The results found that those who had a social
anxiety disorder showed higher impairments in goal directed action that predicted poorer response to
treatment (Alvares, et.al, 2014). The participants were given a test of how much a reward affected the
outcome of goal directed actions. Those who kept responding even after

The Importance Of Prevention And Improvement Interventions
There are numerous current prevention and improvement initiatives taking place in the health care
system to reduce the occurrence of catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs). Some of the
most prominent interventions are to decrease the number of catheters being inserted and removing the
catheters as quickly as possible. Stamford Hospital located in Connecticut, USA, implemented a
CAUTI reduction project after noticing that education based approaches and handwashing efforts had
not decreased the incidence of CAUTIs. They implemented a nurse s checklist for the justified use of
catheters and timely removal of urinary catheters. They also added a specific catheter charting module
in the electronic health record, and held biweekly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past, Foley catheters remained in place, and the need to continue them was not addressed on a
daily basis. But, with education and research this has changed. Education sessions offered in hospital
settings and huddles, for example, are perfect opportunities for the nurses to identify patients with a
Foley catheter on the unit and review strategies for decreasing infections (Clayton, 2017). Knowing
when catheters are being useful and when they are becoming an issue and causing a problem is the
key to identifying CAUTI s. Preventing CAUTI s begins with avoiding unnecessary use of urinary
catheters, developing policies for insertion and maintenance of catheters, selecting the appropriate
catheter, and instituting surveillance of CAUTIs and catheter use. Protocols to eliminate CAUTI s will
decrease their incidence and ensure better quality care (Clayton, 2017). This research found that out of
517 hospitals, 56% of them did not have a system to keep track of catheterized patients (Clayton,
2017). It was also found that 74% of the hospitals did not keep proper records of how long an
indwelling catheter has been in a patient (Clayton, 2017). These flawed systems can be costly to
patient safety and quality of care.
Improper education for health care workers is dangerous for patient care. The next study focused on
working with educators to make sure nurses were properly educated on the proper care of urinary

A Lot Of People See Gun Control In Every Way, Shape And
A lot of people see gun control in every way, shape and form as taking a bit of our freedom away.
Others do not have an issue with gun control. Gun control is an issue of safety, education, race, and
politics. Most gun owning Americans believe that just because certain people do not know how to use
their freedom of having control over their own guns does not mean everyone else should have their
freedom of gun control and ownership taken away by liberal politicians, most who have not even
owned or shot a gun in their whole entire life. The Second Amendment of the United States

Therefore, when a person is going to commit a crime upon someone they might think twice about
what they are going to do, because they have no idea if that person is carrying a gun or not. The
United States has become very restrictive when granting a person to own guns. Certain states have
come up with the Shall Issue law, which prevents anyone to own, or carry firearms if that person has a
criminal record with a felony or has a mental disorder. Many states even require a permit to carry a
concealed gun in public.
Most people learn about responsibility during their childhood and what they learn reflects what they
do and how they act when they get older and become adults. Children that live in a good household
tend to have better understandings of life and respect other people and their lives. Children would also
have a better idea of recreation, for example hunting, and for a mean of protection from criminals. On
the other hand, the children who grow up in problematic homes and that have uncaring parents, who
are usually criminals themselves, tend to turn to crime. They are just doing what they believe is right,
since that is how they were raised. So, we need to educate children about the potential dangers of
firearms if they are not respected and treated with care.
Most Americans who believe that more guns equal more crime are afraid of the people who carry guns

My Work Based Learning Is The Popular Gourmet Hamburger Chain
The Company Overview
Company Creation
My workplace and subsequently where I undertook my work based learning is the popular gourmet
hamburger chain Byron Hamburgers , the company was founded in 2007 by Tom Byng and currently
has 82 restaurants in the UK with 54 of them located in London. The inspiration that prompted Byron
s creation occurred to Tom Byng during a trip to America, he ate at many diners during this trip
sampling some of the best hamburgers that the nation has to offer. Upon his return to the U.K he
realised that there were no restaurants that served hamburgers the proper American way and Byron
was created.
Food and Beverage
The menu at Byron consists of hamburgers, salads and sides along with an extensive selection of craft
beers. Due to the nature of the food served, such as the burgers being cooked medium and the different
components of each burger, it is necessary that staff are sufficiently trained on all aspects of the menu.
Service Style
The service style in Byron, as with many casual dining restaurants is very laid back with staff
members encouraged to talk to and build rapport with customers. The feeling throughout all Byron
restaurants is modern, casual, artistic and humorous, this is communicated through all aspects of the
company such as interior décor of the restaurants, the menus, the training and the marketing.

Clarkson Lumber Company Case Study Essay
Q1 1. Why has Clarkson Lumber borrowed increasing amounts despite its consistent profitability?
Because they have faced cash shortage trouble. Their profitability has grown for 1993 ~ 1995 period,
as we can see from their I/S (e.g. Sales and Net Income, etc.). However, as its business size grows,
their A/R increased, which means that it is getting difficult to collect cash. On the other hand, A/P
decreased for the same period, which means that the company paid cash for A/P, resulting in critical
cash shortage. Furthermore, the A/P payment period is shorter than A/R collection periods, the
company s cash problem happens to be accelerated.

How attractive is to take the trade discounts?
If the company can solve the cash shortage problem, taking 2% trade discount is profitable decision.
The Net Income when taking non trade discount is $ 87K and taking trade discount is 131K. The
difference is obvious. Trade discount is very attractive for the company.
Q3. Do you agree with Mr. Clarkson s estimation of the company loan requirements? How much will
he need to finance the expected expansion in sales to $ 5.5 Mil. In 1996 and to take all trade
discounts?
No, Mr. Clarkson s estimation for loan requirements ($ 750K) is not enough. He needs to borrow more
than $ 750K. As you can see from our 1996 pro forma Balance Sheet (with discount, without discount,
respectively), in the both of cases, the company still needs more than $750K from bank to meet their
financial needs. In case of not taking all trade discount, (1996 pro forma without discount) the
company needs to borrow $ $905K, on the other hand, in no trade discount case, the company even
needs more money ($1,112K) to finance their expected expansion. (Please refer to attached excel file
for 1996 pro forma B/S and I/S.)

The Classic Maya was a time of great expansion in the Yucatan peninsula. Socially impactful art,

several kings in Tikal, and several other cities all possessed great leaders that created stability. The
Terminal Classic period was when most all central power, across the Yucatan, was disrupted. There

The characteristics that defined the Classic Maya were no longer being pursued. The strong central
governments of the Classic Maya built palaces and monuments. Pakal of Palenque built a massive
palace beginning in 650 AD. Tahn Te K inich of Acqueteca wanted to elevate the status of Acqueteca,
and his model for that was through massive construction and ceremonial activity. He dedicated large
steala which depicted the king as a great warrior. He also commisioned for a great pyramid to be built.
It never was finished, but the point is that he was very intentional in displaying his power through
construction. Acqueteca is a great example of a city who s central political system was disrupted that
led to its eventual abandonment. As said above, Tahn Te K inich was commissioning many buildings

Examples Of Etiquette In Hiking
Hiking Etiquette 101: A Guide for Canary Island Mountaineers
Whenever you re hiking, you re always honor bound to follow the rules and observances of the hobby,
whether they re on a bulletin board or unwritten. These come into play if you re hiking on the
numerous trails across the Canary islands. So, if you re planning to take a nature trip in the Masca
Valley or the rocky outcrops of Roque Nublo, here are some notable etiquette rules for both veteran
and newbie hikers.
Priority: Horses Hikers Bikers
There is always a sort of hierarchy on the trail: horses always go first, followed by hikers, and then
bikers. Considering that horses have the tendency to be spooked by incoming traffic by the opposite
direction or a biker that is suddenly overtaking them, it s wise to let them go first, unless if the rider is
signaling otherwise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you re riding a bike or a horse, shout out on your left or hi, just passing by to give them fair
warning. Moreover, always keep right when on the trail and stay there when faster hikers are passing
by.
Clean Up
Littering is absolutely the worst thing anyone can ever do during a hike. Leave no waste on the trail:
keep a paper bag or a pocket on your backpack for empty water bottles, paper towels, and food
wrappers. Throw them away in proper disposal facilities once you get back to civilisation. This also
applies if you re bring a dog along with you. Be sure to bring a waste bag and a pair of tongs to pick it
up. Remember, no one wants to see or smell your canine companion s excrement on the trail!
Enjoy the Silence
One of the best things about hiking is the noise of nature . The trail is full of the sound of singing
birds, gushing streams, and the music the wind plays when it rustles the leaves. It s relaxing and the
feeling they provide is something you would want to

Light Essays
LIGHT: A FUNDAMENTAL FORCE IN OUR WORLD
If asked what light is, one could say that it s one of the most basic
elements of our world and our universe as we perceive it. It is through
sight that we receive 90% of our information. It is through the use of
telescopes aiding the naked eye that we are aware of the heavenly bodies
around us. It is through light that the energy from the sun is transferred
to us. The sun s energy supports the food chain; plants use it to turn
water and CO2 into energy usable by other organisms. Solar energy was also
used, indirectly, to produce all of the fossil fuels that we consume daily.
Since light is such a basic part of our existence, we should have a basic ... Show more content on

When these return to their normal, or quot;ground quot; state, energy is
produced in the form of electricity. Thus, light is termed a
quot;wave particle, quot; and this property is called the quot;wave particle duality of
nature. quot; Many questions concerning what makes up light still lie
unanswered, but this much is thought to be true.
Light can be produced in a variety of ways. Our sun, like other stars,
uses nuclear fusion to produce energy in the form of light and radiation.
We can produce light artificially using several methods. If one starts a
fire, it produces light and heat. (Heat, which is infrared radiation, is
another type of light energy.) The light and heat are a result of a
chemical reaction, the combining of oxygen with the carbon in the wood.
This reaction leaves behind products which have less potential energy than
they started with. The energy, which left as light and heat, was produced
when electrons dropped in energy levels during the reaction. The excess
energy from one atom was given off as a photon, producing light. If one
examines a fluorescent or incandescent light bulb, one can see that all it
is doing is having electricity stimulate a metallic or gaseous substrate,
causing it to give off photons. The principle is the same as it was with
the fire, only it is more controlled. Still more

The Subprime Mortgage Crisis
The Subprime Mortgage crisis
ECO 2072 Principles of Macroeconomics
In the beginning
One of the first indications of the late 2000 financial crisis that led to downward spiral known as the
Recession was the subprime mortgages; known as the mortgage mess . A few years earlier the
substantial boom of the housing market led to the uprising of mortgage loans. Because interest rates
were low, investors took advantage of the low rates to buy homes that they could in return flip
(reselling) and homeowners bought homes that they typically wouldn t have been able to afford. High
interest rates usually keep people from borrowing money because it limits the amount available to use
for an investment. But the creation of the subprime mortgage ... Show more content on

Risky Business
Around 2006 the price of houses began to fall substantially fast. The oversupply of houses and lack of
buyers pushed the house prices down until they really plunged in the late 2006 and early 2007 (The
Subprime Mortgage Crisis Explained). These actions threw investors into a big dilemma. In the
beginning they believed buying the mortgages would bring them a profit, but quickly realized that the
mortgages would cost them more financial damage than reselling the homes. Nationwide, home vales
have declined about 16% since the summer of 2006 and experts project that the drop will continue
until homes have lost about 25% of their value (Biroonak, 2008). In other words mortgage homes are
underwater , that is, the mortgage owed equals or exceeds the value of the house (Biroonak, 2008).
Investors and homeowners started to go more in debt trying to pay off their original debts.
With all of the incentives and mortgage products given so easily to people that couldn t afford the high
prices (including interest rates), many people defaulted on their first mortgages because they were no
longer were able to receive the profit from the homes they first intended to flip. During the first
quarter of 2008, nearly 9% of all mortgage holders were delinquent or in foreclosure, the highest rate
since recordkeeping began in 1979. Foreclosure filings more than

Social Stratification According to Marx and Weber
Social stratification is the hierarchical arrangement of individuals into divisions of power and wealth
within a society. Social stratification relates to the socio economic concept of class, consisting of the
upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided into smaller classes
through the main indicator is occupation. This is the most practical and most effective means of
encompassing the wide variety of economic and social elements that go to make up a person s class
through their education, status, income and power. Evidence shows that wealth is distributed
unequally and that incomes vary from small to huge. The old idea of Britain s class structure was
comprised as a triangular shape; with increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this suggests that Britain s class structure is becoming fragmented.
On the other hand, Weberians suggests that the middle class is fragmented into competing status
groups for example, professionals and managers. Zweig (1961) argued that a section of the working
class has adopted the economic and cultural lifestyle of the middle class, the embourgeoisement
thesis. Since the 1960s, skilled manual workers have seen an improvement in wages and better living
standards, often exceeding those of some of the middle class. However, despite big improvements in
living standards and lifestyles, there are still differences that separate affluent manual workers from
the middle class which suggests that embourgeoisement has not occurred. For example, their high
wages were only obtained through overtime and shift working. Also, lack fringe benefits and have
limited promotion opportunities. This was shown in Goldthorpe and Lockwood s famous study of a
car factory in Luton (1969). However, they argue that there was signs of convergence between
working class and middle class lifestyles, but concluded that, rather than an increase in the middle
class, what had emerged was a new working class. Therefore, shows that the working class have
fragmented into at least two different ways, firstly the traditional working class, in decline and
typically situated in the North of England. Secondly, a new working class found in the newer

Clinical Outcome of CBT Compared With Pharmacotherapy One approach to treating depression
involves addressing the cognitions that mediate the emotional impact of events in patients lives (e.g.,
Beck, Rush, Shaw, Emery, 1979; Beck Young, 1985). The proponents of this approach assert that it is
not necessarily aversive events that lead to depression, but rather cognitions about those events. CBT
involves helping patients modify cognitive distortions that may be negatively impacting mood. Many
studies have shown cognitive therapy to be more effective than antidepressant medication (Blackburn,
Bishop, Glen, Whalley, Christie, 1981; Evans et al., 1992; Kovacs, Rush, Beck, Hollon, 1981; Rush,
Beck, Kovacs, Hollon, 1977; Rush, Beck, Kovacs, Weissenburger, Hollon, 1982). Some studies have
shown cognitive therapy alone to be as effective as antidepressant medication (Elkin et al., 1989;
Hollon et al., 1992) or combined cognitive/drug treatment (Beck, Hollon, Young, Bedrosian, Budenz,

themselves into the groups they belong to, they would be more motivated to support the group and act

Pattern of Heroism Fantasy author J.R.R Tolkien once said, All that is gold does not glitter, not all

Reading is an attempt to absorb the thought of the author and know what the author is conveying
(Leedy 1956). Studying is the interpretation of reading materials. Study habits and skills are
particularly important for college students, whose needs include time management, note taking,
Internet skill, the elimination of distractions, and assigning a high priority to study. . Marcus Credé
and Nathan R. Kuncel (2008) in their research at the University of Albany said that Study habit, skill,
and attitude inventories and constructs were found to rival standardized tests and previous grades as
predictors of academic performance, yielding substantial incremental validity in predicting academic
performance. The meta analysis examined the construct validity and predictive validity of 10 study
skill constructs for college students. They found that study skill inventories and constructs are largely
independent of both high school grades and scores on standardized admissions tests but moderately
related to various personality constructs; these results were inconsistent with previous theories. Study
motivation and study skills exhibit the strongest relationships with both grade point average and
grades in individual classes. They also said that Academic specific anxiety was found to be an
important negative predictor of performance. In addition, significant variation in the validity of
specific inventories is shown. Scores on traditional study habit

Example Of Syntactical Ambiguity
4. CLARITY. In order for our writing to be clear there are some common discursive elements that the
user must avoid. Some of those elements have relevance in writing but they would only confuse the
reader in smaller work. As the Style Guide for The Economist states: Clarity of writing usually
follows clarity of thought . Clarity conveys readers comprehending our message effortlessly; writing
properly involves successful communication.
Examples:
*The horse raced past the barn fell.
✓The horse which was raced past the barn fell. (Pinker, 2014) *As linguist Geoffrey Pullum has

such as cricket, baseball and table tennis. (Oxford Dictionary)
2. A nocturnal capable of sustained flight. (Oxford Dictionary) Best choice: John has a bat to play

4.3.2 SYNTACTICAL The syntactical ambiguity is when words can be interconnected into more than
one tree. It must be avoid as much as possible. Example: The French teacher speaks very fast
We find two interpretations:
1. The teacher that teaches French
2. The teacher from France
Best choice: The teacher that teach French speaks very fast  Does the text contain any ambiguity? If
it does, substitute it with another word or phrase.
4.4 HEDGING The heading is usually used by the writer, in order to distance their opinion from the
text and avoid responsibility for mistake. Words such as: almost, apparently, comparatively, fairly, in
part, nearly, partially, predominantly, presumably, rather, relatively, seemingly, so to speak, somewhat,
sort of, to a certain degree, to some extent, and the ubiquitous I would argue (Pinker, 2014) are

Summary Of Angela Davis Are Prisons Obsolete
Welcome to Literature Links. This week in the Literature Link s office, we have been thoroughly
captivated by Angela Davis s Are Prisons Obsolete?, a profoundly informative nonfiction text that
encourages the reader to question the universal acceptance of the prison system in contemporary
society. Davis offers an alternative reading on the issue of the relevance of the prison system and
perpetuates the discourse that the entire prison system is unnecessary, harmful and fundamentally
structured upon racist ideologies. Davis, a prominent American abolitionist activist, systematically
evaluates the prison industrial complex in relation to a multitude of discourses such as its history, the
racist ideologies and gender constructs it enforces, and

Motivation For The College Student
Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced
and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her
once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place, there was a
silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two
princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself.
For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing
student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end. With a
deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the
course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that
need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound complex sentences. Therefore
with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I
have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to
accomplish greater polished writing skills and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the
driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen.
There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I attended

The Red Horses By Franz Marc Essay
The German artist Franz Marc painted the painting The Red Horses. He was born on February 8,
1880. Most of Franz Marc s influence came from his father who was a landscape artist. As a result of
this, his earliest works were painted in the naturalistic academic style. When Marc met Wassily
Kandinsky in 1910, he joined an expressionist group. Most of the colors that Franz used in his
paintings had a meaning to him or to the painting. The different aspects and the thought that Marc put
into his paintings really made them come together and become what they are now. Marc and
Kandinsky soon formed their own group, called Der Blaue Reiter. Their philosophy in painting
paintings derived from nature was that the painting itself should reflect the spiritual essence of the
object or animal as opposed to the physical embodiment. In 1912, Marc s works became more abstract

In 1911, Germany was being industrialized very quickly, and urbanization was at an all time high. By
this time in his artistic career, Franz Marc had developed an idea of symbolism for the colors used in
his paintings. This was largely influenced by his friendship with Kandinsky. The colors used in The
Red Horses were largely naturalistic colors; there are no neon or unnatural colors. The beginning of
the 20th century in Germany was where expressionism originated. This movement had a large impact
on Marc s paintings as most of his works were of the expressionist movement. His paintings were not
focused on the physical details of the painting, but on the mood and ideas that he was trying to relate
to the viewer. Franz Marc created several paintings in the year of 1911, and a vast majority of them
were related to expressionism. Marc liked nature and seemingly normal actions that animals were
doing. For example, in the painting The Red Horses, the horses are depicted grazing, but looking
deeper into the meaning of the painting, there is more to be

Lisa The Iconoclast And The Simpsons
The short story An Enemy of the People and the Simpsons episode Lisa the Iconoclast both deal with
themes of obtaining new information and deciding whether to then release that information in the best
interests of the public based on consequences that do not only impact themselves but those important
to them. In An Enemy of the People , Dr. Stockmann has discovered information regarding the town s
public baths, that the water has been contaminated and any future use of the facilities could lead to
severe illness. In Lisa the Iconoclast , during Springfield s bicentennial celebrations, Lisa Simpson
discovers that the town founder, Jebediah Springfield is really Hans Sprungfeld, a murderous pirate
who had tried to kill George Washington. In both stories there are also consequences for the
Stockmann and Simpson families. Though there are ultimately major differences as to the conclusion
of each of the stories regarding their decision to withhold or release the information based on the
public opinion. One of the most important themes that both these stories share is the existence of
knowledge that the protagonists believe is important to share for the good of the community. For Dr.
Stockmann it is the baths and their contamination, for Lisa Simpsons it is the true identity of
Springfield s founder. Dr. Stockmann learns about this new information, after sending away a sample
of the town s water to a major university. When the results are returned, he is shocked to find

Sparta, not Athens, won the war against Persia Essay
The Greek victory against Persia was largely due to efforts of mainly Athens but also Sparta as well.
Athens was responsible for the major turning points of the Persian invasions, while Sparta was
responsible for the deciding battle. Miltiades, with his skilful battle strategies, defeated the Persians
during their second invasion at Marathon, which gave Athens a confidence boost on their military.
During the third invasion, when the Athenians were evacuated to Salamis, Themistocles had devised a
plan to trick the Persians which had resulted in Persian army without a supply line. Sparta?s
importance had revealed during their sacrifice at Thermopylae and at Plataea, where they provided the
most effective part of the army.

Themistocles was aware that the only way to defeat the Persians was to cut of their naval power, so he
devised a plan. He sent a slave to the Persians with a message that they were escaping, and the
Persians sent ships to meet there escapees. The Athenian ships were prepared to face them. Their
specialty in sea battles, along with the narrowness and swirls of the sea gave the Athenians an
advantage. This strategy is what ultimately brought victory to the Greeks, as it left the Persians
without a supply line and weakened their forces. The two events, the battle at Marathon and the battle
at Salamis, showed that Athens was a great contributor to the war, both land and sea.
Sparta was also a contributor to the defeat of the Persians. They were renowned for their great military
strength and discipline on land. This gave fear to everyone who was facing the Spartans. In the battle
at Marathon, the Persians had to attack soon, knowing that if they didn?t, the superior Spartan warriors
would arrive. This fear forced the Persians to hurry their operations, which was why the cavalry was
sent off by ships to attack Athens and allowed the Athenians to win at Marathon. The battle at
Thermopylae was also another contribution to the war. The Spartans, along with the other Greeks were
able to hold off the Persians, but when the enemy found a secret passage around the mountain, many
of the Greeks retreated, except for the

The goal was to make a record breaking salary such as Barbara Walters with her one million dollars a

habit of spontaneous reporting and her refusal to read the news copy ahead of time. The lack of
preparation resulted in mistakes. She would mispronounce words and bad grammar. Things did not
work out there so the company decided to send Oprah to get a makeover. She was sent to a salon in
New York and received a perm that made her hair come out. She was also sent to a speech coach, it
was there that she received the best advice of her life. The speech coach told Oprah that she had to
have more self determination and positive attitude and to quit being so nice. Oprah s next job was
reading cut ins on ABC s Good Morning America Show. In addition WJZ TV assigned her as a
reporter covering tragedies. After this Oprah was placed to host their talk show People Are Talking, to
her this show was considered a demotion. People Are Talking created a change for Oprah. She realized
this is what she wanted to do all along. It allowed her to relax and be herself. In a few years the shows
popularity passed that of the Phil Donahue Show. In 1984, Oprah took a risk at hosting a Chicago

show was groundbreaking . What made her show so great was that she was able/unafraid to bare

Is Golf A Sport Essay
People keep wondering if golf is a sport, and the answer is yes. This is true for three reasons.Pro golfers
are considered athletes by many people, physical training helps with a golfers performance, and golf
requires coordinated muscle use.All these things make a golfer an athlete, and an athlete is someone
who plays some sort of sport so that technically makes golf a sport. Now lets get into some detail to
why golf should be considered a real sport.
The first reason why golf should be considered a sport is because many people call pro golfers
athletes. An example of this would be, The associated press has named a golfer as its female athlete of
the year 24 times ( https://golf.procon.org/ ).If she plays golf and has been named female athlete of the
year, then that makes her an athlete which makes golf a real sport.Another example from them is,
Golfer Tiger Woods is the richest athlete in history and was the first athlete to surpass 1 billion dollars
in career earnings ( https://golf.procon.org/ ).See that s a lot of money which is being earned by an
athlete who is playing a sport. That s only one reason why Golf should be called a

Understanding and Applying GDP in Economics
This paper takes a look into how to measure aggregate output/productivity and the wellbeing of an
economy as a whole by factoring consumption, investment, government spending, net exports and
imports. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an effective tool that can aid economist in comparing
current economic situations with years past. GDP can also help make an assumption on where the
economy is heading in the future.
Part I Assume that Country A has a population of 500,000 and only produces one good cars. Country
A produces 100,000 cars per year. The people in Country A purchase 90,000 cars, but there are not
enough cars to fulfill all the demand. They decide to import 50,000 more. The government buys
25,000 cars for its police force, and 10,000 cars are bought by companies to transport employees to
other locations to work. They also export 65,000 cars to nearby countries for sale.
GDP Defined
To find find Country A s GDP you must use the GDP equation (Consumption +Investment
+Government Spending + Net Exports Imports).
Consumption 90,000
Consumption 10,000
Gov Spending 25,000
Net Exports 65,000 Total= 190,000
Subtract
Imports 50,000 GDP= 140,000

Referent Power in Leadership
Referent Power
I. Topic of Inquiry
It is important for managers to understand the sources of power and influence as they must rely upon
the cooperation of subordinates in order to be successful. Strong managers rely upon more than just
authority they also use leadership skills and power to obtain the most productivity from their staff.
According to French and Raven (1959) there are five sources of power. Referent power seems to be
the most influential and the least affected by change. To quote Paul Argenti,
Coercive power relies on the fact that people fear you, and reward power is only effective so long as
people value the rewards you have to offer. Legitimate power relies on your rank in the company
hierarchy, and recent events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.) Nurturing. Another component of developing referent leadership is nurturing. According to
Thompson (1996) a referent leader takes an interest in the feelings of other people and exhibits
concern for them. They know the aspirations, fears, capabilities, and attitudes (Henderson Moskos,
1985, p. 112) of others and they help people feel capable and good about themselves (DuBrin, 1995).
These traits help to create friendship and over a longer period of time loyalty.
4.) Being a good role model / Being trustworthy. In order to have people drawn to you it is important
that they respect you. Being a good role model, being truthful and being trustworthy will reinforce that
respect.
How is it used?
Referent power can be used to influence opinion because it can create conscious or unconscious
acceptance of the agent s opinion with little or no question. It can also be used to influence behaviors.
As stated by Locke (2003) When identification is strong, imitation [of the agent s behavior] is likely to
occur even without any conscious effort (p. 247) to influence. And the target person may not be
consciously aware that they are emulating the agent. The stronger the identification or admiration the
more powerful influence can be. This was expressed well by Locke (2003) People are usually willing
to do special favors for a friend, and they are more likely

Sean O Casey once said that, Laughter is wine for the soul laughter soft, or loud and deep, tinged
through with seriousness the hilarious declaration made by man that life is worth living. Without
laughing, man is not living fully. For the men in the novel, One Who Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest, by
Ken Kesey, they are in a mental institution and are repressed by their head nurse until a new patient,
McMurphy, comes in laughing an changing the way everything is ran, turning the insane sane. In the
novel, laughter is a symbol of sanity and it helps a person grow stronger, so when the men laugh they

and no one can do anything about it. However, McMurphy s happiness and his ability to be free in the

the combine altogether grew stronger. Towards the end of the novel, McMurphy s humor and
influence on the men have made them more confident and have finally allowed them to overcome the
power of the Nurse. Through McMurphy s actions, the men are less afraid of her and more willing to
challenge her authority. This is mostly seen in the scenes where they vote to get what they want like
the game room, the World Series, a basketball team, and a fishing trip. The men have grown stronger
and more confident and no longer are afraid of being outside of the ward. In the scene where they are
on the fishing trip and on the boat drinking and having a good time, everyone is falling over each
other drunk and laughing even when they are getting hurt trying to reel a fish in and when Chief sees
Billy Bibbit laughing and having a good time even though he got hurt, he says, He knows you have to

  • 2. Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment God Answers the Questions Presented by Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment In Dostoevsky s novels pain and some heavy burden of the inevitability of human suffering and helplessness form Russia. And he depicts it not with white gloves on, nor through the blisters of the peasant, but through people who are close to him and his realities: city people who either have faith, or secular humanists who are so remote from reality that even when they love humanity they despise humans because of their own inability to achieve or to create paradise on earth. His novels The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment are best examples of the poisonous effect of such ideals on the common man. The rebellion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is not the love that is directed towards the humanity as a whole, but towards the individual: Strive to love your neighbor actively and indefatigably (II, 4). For Dostoevsky such love is a false one and he presents it through such characters as Rakitin, Perkhotin and even Luzhin: Consciousness of life is superior to life, knowledge of the laws of happiness is superior to happiness that is what we must fight against. (The Dream of a Ridiculous Man , p. 382) One of greatest evils for Dostoevsky are the so called liberals who love humanity more than an individual man. Yet he does not represent their behavior as genuinely evil . Their hate towards humanity arises exactly from the opposite: love. Secular humanists see so much evil, crime and inhumanity, they cannot stop it so they rebel. Ivan Karamazov and his rebellion are purely of that kind. He is not vile, he just cannot understand that there might be a solution for such suffering, especially in the case of children who are innocent in Christianity. That is why Ivan asks: Love life more than the meaning of it? (II, 3) Ivan as any average intellectual, wants to know. To know the meaning of life for him is more important than to actually do something about the human suffering. Ivan forgets that one human life is as important as the entire humanity. For him humanity is merely an abstraction which happen to be surrounding him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Anger On The Social Function Of Anger It is suggested by many that the main social function of anger is to change someone else s behaviour in order to gain a better outcome for oneself (Fischer Roseman, 2007). However, whether anger is a beneficial to us or not, is widely disputed (Fischer Roseman, 2007). First, the social functionists perspective on the social function of anger will be discussed by evaluating Hutcherson Gross study (2011). Furthermore, Choi and Murdock s (2017) study on anger expression, interpersonal conflict and depression symptoms will be explained and evaluated by introducing Chue et al. s (2017) findings. Finally it will be argued that anger can help to create and maintain a hierarchy within social groups by evaluating Callister, Geddes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, anger is a response to a situation in which one is threatened to lose personal freedom and/or possessions. In this case, the social function of anger is to eliminate or change the specific behaviours, observed by the self as direct intimidations, in order to gain a better outcome (Fischer Roseman, 2007). Evidence for the social functionalist perspective on the social function of anger was provided by Fischer Roseman (2007). They hypothesised anger belongs to the attack emotion family with the social function of changing other people s behaviour through attacking in order to gain a more desirable outcome for oneself. Furthermore, they suggested after the anger has settled, the attacking behaviour can have positive long term effects on the relationship with the attacked person. Fischer Roseman tested the hypothesis as follows: they asked 94 students (30 men, 64 women) to recall and describe a situation in which they felt either anger or contempt, but not both (conditions were assigned randomly). After, participants were handed a questionnaire regarding the described situation and were asked to rate them on a 7 point Likert scale (1= not applicable; 7= very applicable). Questions, for example, measured emotional strength, two types of immediate responses (verbal attack vs withdrawals) and also long term responses toward the person involved in the scenario to measure reconciliation and rejection. • 4. Living Well Chapter 8 Summary Living well: Chapter 8 A living will is a legal document that indicates whether a patient wants to be placed on life prolonging machines (also known as life support) should he or she be unable to communicate personal preferences. Anyone can fill out and place a living will in his or her medical record, but it must be notarized or signed by two witnesses to be considered legal. Regulations on living wills vary from state to state, so it is best to obtain one from a local medical facility or consult a lawyer. So therefore, if the patient does not want life support he or she will have to state it in the living will, then the patient cannot be on any machines. For instance, if the patient was to be placed on any machines before the living will was discovered then the medical team will have to start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other cases from gallupnews.com come from people all around the world like some people don t want living wills or have difficulties doing a living. Not only do they not want to burden their families, they don t want to live if they can t define their own choices. • 5. The Death Of Edward II It was 1307 and Edward I who was sixty eight at the time of his death would now pass the throne to his son Edward II. Edward II who was Lord of Caernarfon, prince of Wales, duke of Aquitaine, earl of Chester and count of Pontheiu would now inherit a war with Scotland from his father. Edward II was rather a particular fellow with unusual hobbies that he showed throughout his reign. Evidence points that Edward II may have had a relationship with Piers Gaveston, but also he had been banished from the kingdom by his father Edward I. This incident or should I say interest in men would become one of the biggest problems throughout all of his reign. Piers Gaveston was disliked very much by parliament and several times was banished by Edward I during his reign. Edward II would also come to marry Isabella the daughter of Phillip IV , which in the end led to the end of his reign, but before we get to that, there was also a man named Hugh Despenser that would become an affectionate friend for Edward II after Piers Gaveston death. Piers Gaveston caused much trouble for Lancaster and Warwick. He was hated by them significantly that in 1312 he was captured and executed by them and it caused much pain for the king who loved Gaveston much. Edward II losing his best friend and possibly lover was forced to now rely more on his queen, Isabella, which would prove to improve the relationship of both them during their brief time reigning together. Trader Joe s Case Analysis UGBA 115: Competitive Strategy Trader Joe s Midterm Case Analysis Jean Carlo Hoyos Trader Joe s Analysis Hoyos 2 The Industry The grocery industry in the United States is currently an attractive industry (a.k.a. profitable). This attractiveness derives from the relative low threat of new entrants, low supplier and buyer powers, and low threat of substitutes. The main factors driving these results are the low concentration of suppliers and buyers, the significant barriers to entry due to high up front investment costs (for infrastructure and distribution channels) and scale economies, low availability of substitutes 1, and the threat of retaliation from incumbents (by lowering price, for example). However, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, customers complaints with parking could ultimately lead them to choose bigger stores or other small footprint ones. Given the situation described in the previous paragraphs and on the exhibits, Trader Joe s should consider the following two recommendations for its future growth: Start a social media campaign and emphasize on the organic food movement by branding organic products with the Trader Joe s name. For the social media campaign to match TJ s culture, the company should emphasize on artsy online platforms such as Instagram, to integrate photos and hashtags, Twitter, to tweet about new products or recipes, and Vimeo, to upload videos of their recipes, instead of Facebook and YouTube which go beyond the TJ s target market of educated individuals. Also, in order to take advantage of smart devices, TJ should develop an app for iOS and Android that could integrate both platforms, the online website, and the online fan base that currently exists. Trader Joe s should also engage in branding its own line of organic products (including meats). Since competition is rapidly moving into TJ s strategic group (given the low mobility barriers), the company should make use of its established brand (associated with quality and uniqueness) and strong supplier relations in order to further enhance its participation on ... • 8. The Creation Of Western Civilization From its beginnings at the foundation of ancient Greece, our present humanity has evolved itself to be focused on the value of each individual. The contradiction in terms of Western civilization, however, was also was made obvious right from the start. The Greek s attention on individuals arose from a slavery based society. The focus on individual rights created both a democratic system and an increase in learning, as well as scientific revolutions that would remain unique until the Renaissance. Adding onto the Greek groundwork, the Romans furthered another significant keystone of Western civilization; the establishment of laws. Through the collapse of Rome and increasing Germanic barbarian invasions, the foundations of Western civilization had fundamentally vanished. They were not put back into effect until the Italian Renaissance inspired massive attention to the traditional texts. As a result, a change in European thinking switched from The Almighty back to the individual. Starting chiefly as a theocratic and nationalist movement, the Reformation in Germany provided an assortment of nationwide securities. It prohibited the Roman Church from restricting academic discussion in northern Europe. New translations of the Bible also resulted in the expansion of vulgar languages which encouraged literacy and education. The Enlightenment brought us even closer to achieving westernized democracy, inquiring deeper into both religion and tyranny. Many French philosophers held an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Loopy Lydia Diary Short story Seven days ago, something awful happened. I m only writing this diary entry as I need to get my anger and frustration out some way. The guilt inside me is eating me alive it s growing and growing. The pain is invading my whole body. Let me start from the beginning, then will it all begin to make sense. I hated the man with a passion, the mere thought of him made me sick to my stomach. You could say that I haven t been the same since that day. I hardly eat and I like to keep to myself. The girls in my school call me loopy Lydia. It s only because I don t speak in class and I prefer to draw then speak. People think I don t understand, what they say, they think I m crazy when in actual fact I can understand. They say that I have pale, lifeless eyes and that I seem like I m in catatonic state but if only they knew. My mum knows and I hate that she knows. She had the power to do something to stop it, to stop that disgusting act. But she didn t, she stood there and watched. She cried and watched but she didn t stop him. It was an accident I swear but I don t regret it. • 11. False Christian Teaching Many people can teach the Gospel, but few can present it in a way of compelling and authentic manner. Through his teachings to the Ephesians, Ignatius provides beneficial concepts for Christianity that are crucial for the Church to pursue. He commends the Ephesians to live in unity and communion with God, respect the authority placed over them, and stray from false teachings. His thought provoking ideas are absent from believers today and should be more vividly displayed in the lives of Christians. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others (New International Version, Romans 12:4 5). Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep s clothing, but inward they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits (New International Version, Matthew 7:15). It is difficult when a convincing person attempts to change your hopes and beliefs because they can be so sly and can twist thoughts. However, sticking to what is true, holy, and pleasing to God is the only way to dodge the destruction of the Christian mind. False prophets and teachers have no place in the lives of Christians and should not be able to sway strong beliefs and claims. The Church today is victim to fictitious instruction and must remain faithful to what they know is true in God the Father. Ignatius teachings to the Ephesians will ultimately benefit the Church if they are lived out everyday. He instructed them to live as one in Christ Jesus, to respect the authority over them, and to stray from false prophets who seek to corrupt their minds. If Christians today began to pursue these ideas, the world as a whole would benefit greatly because Christ would shine so brightly in and through them. The Effects Of Social Anxiety On Higher Education To begin we take a look at two studies that were done on college students and the effects of social anxiety in higher education, researchers were able to conclude that social anxiety does have an impact on the wellbeing and success of students in each study. In our first study, students from Sydney, Australia, were accessed using many psychological tests, scales, and inventories to obtain scores for accurate study. The topic of the study is Impairments in Goal directed actions that predict treatment response to cognitive behavioral therapy in social anxiety. The participants who were involved gave written consent to be a part of this study, and those who were on medications were properly stabilized before participation began. This study involved showing participants fractal images of food as a reward to measure goal directed actions in predicting treatment response to cognitive behavioral therapy (Alvares, G. A., Balleine, B. W., Guastella, A. J. (2014). Anxiety has been argued to be related to an inability to process rewarding information appropriately to guide actions (Alvares, et. al, 2014) and changes in outcome values (Alvares, et.al, 2014). The results found that those who had a social anxiety disorder showed higher impairments in goal directed action that predicted poorer response to treatment (Alvares, et.al, 2014). In the past, Foley catheters remained in place, and the need to continue them was not addressed on a daily basis. But, with education and research this has changed. Education sessions offered in hospital settings and huddles, for example, are perfect opportunities for the nurses to identify patients with a Foley catheter on the unit and review strategies for decreasing infections (Clayton, 2017). Knowing when catheters are being useful and when they are becoming an issue and causing a problem is the key to identifying CAUTI s. Preventing CAUTI s begins with avoiding unnecessary use of urinary catheters, developing policies for insertion and maintenance of catheters, selecting the appropriate catheter, and instituting surveillance of CAUTIs and catheter use. Protocols to eliminate CAUTI s will decrease their incidence and ensure better quality care (Clayton, 2017). This research found that out of 517 hospitals, 56% of them did not have a system to keep track of catheterized patients (Clayton, 2017). It was also found that 74% of the hospitals did not keep proper records of how long an indwelling catheter has been in a patient (Clayton, 2017). Clinical Outcome of CBT Compared With Pharmacotherapy One approach to treating depression involves addressing the cognitions that mediate the emotional impact of events in patients lives (e.g., Beck, Rush, Shaw, Emery, 1979; Beck Young, 1985). The proponents of this approach assert that it is not necessarily aversive events that lead to depression, but rather cognitions about those events. According to French and Raven (1959) there are five sources of power. Referent power seems to be the most influential and the least affected by change. To quote Paul Argenti, Coercive power relies on the fact that people fear you, and reward power is only effective so long as people value the rewards you have to offer. Legitimate power relies on your rank in the company hierarchy, and recent events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3.) Nurturing. Another component of developing referent leadership is nurturing. According to Thompson (1996) a referent leader takes an interest in the feelings of other people and exhibits concern for them. They know the aspirations, fears, capabilities, and attitudes (Henderson Moskos, 1985, p. 112) of others and they help people feel capable and good about themselves (DuBrin, 1995). The men have grown stronger and more confident and no longer are afraid of being outside of the ward. In the scene where they are on the fishing trip and on the boat drinking and having a good time, everyone is falling over each other drunk and laughing even when they are getting hurt trying to reel a fish in and when Chief sees Billy Bibbit laughing and having a good time even though he got hurt, he says, He knows you have to laugh at things that hurt you just to keep yourself in balance, just to keep the world from running you plumb crazy...he won t let the pain blot out the humor (250).
