Essay On J. H. Picard Othello
What is the cruelest way to punish a man: to kill him, or to rob him of everything he loves? To
imprison him, or strip him of all sense, morals and honor? J.H. Picard s production of Othello
explored these questions and more in a tale of love, deception, and hatred.
Written by the king of theater himself, William Shakespeare, Othello unfolds in an Italy overrun by
misogyny and racism. When the Moorish general Othello denies his aide, Iago, a promotion and
marries a girl who has blatantly betrayed her father, Iago becomes determined to seek his revenge.
How so? By manipulation and a bag full of the seeds of doubt, just waiting to be sown.
In a unique blend of modern and classical styles, J.H. Picard brought a level of energy to the stage that
no ordinary group of Shakespearean actors could. Although some lines were missed by the audience
due to rushed dialogue, the cast used clever gestures and voices to vocalize ... Show more content on

Each word effortlessly rolled off his tongue in excellent Shakespearean diction, giving the impression
of a strong, scheming character. Alongside him was Jonah Lechot as the play s namesake, Othello. He
was expressive and bold in his performance, making his presence known from the moment he stepped
on stage.
Although the play focused primarily on male characters, some of the most notable performances
emerged from the female roles. The wives of Othello and Iago, Desdemona and Emilia respectively,
were confident and charming in their roles. In song, in speech, and even in death, their interactions
were continually heartwarming and heartbreaking.
While the leads enchanted the audience at the front of the stage, the ensemble of young women,
consisting of Maddison Kingham, Daisy Brazil and Neressa Wimberly, brought humor and sass to the
show, never once dropping character. They undoubtedly became a refreshing relief from the
melancholic mood of the

His work of the portraits is often associated with photographic realism movements in which he blurred
the distinction between painting and photography that had never been done. It is more interesting
considering that Close couldn t recognize faces due to his illness and he could be able to create a work
replicating the particular details of his selected faces. Close continue to search for his own signature
style by experimenting with alternative forms and materials. After close moved to Manhattan, New
York, he taught at the School of Visual Arts and married a former student, Leslie Rose. Despite the
time that Process art was popular, he started working with photographs in 1966 taking black and white
pictures of a young woman to use in a study for a reclining nude. Close work from photographs by
cutting into a grid and transferred onto a bigger and longer canvas forming one of his famous works,

Medicare
Imagine your grandmother, alone in her apartment sick and no food to eat. Well, there are programs
our government provides to our elderly to help them buy food, find a place to live and most
importantly, help insure them. Medicare is a program that was initially created by Harry S. Truman in
1948, but Congress failed to enact it ( Curing the Health Care System ). Later it was refined by LBJ in
1965 as part of Great Society to help the war on poverty . Medicare benefits millions of senior citizens
over 65 by giving them free health care or helping pay part of it. Before Medicare there was private
insurance that helped people, but with Medicare a lot more people have access to health insurance.
Today, Medicare provides over 52.3 million Americans with affordable health insurance.
The government started taking action to help the elderly through social problems in the mid 19th
century. In May of 1964, Johnson had summed up his grand vision for America in a speech at the
University of Michigan, he declared that the Great Society demands an end to poverty and racial
injustice... just the beginning (Johnson). Before LBJ and Congress brought about the first major
change in Social Security, any government system that provides monetary assistance to people with an
inadequate or no income, by establishing Medicare for the seniors, elderly people bought their health
insurance from private

Dbq Zheng He s 7 Voyages
The most well known expeditions are those of European explorers such as Christopher Columbus, but
there are many lesser known voyages from history, including the voyages of Chinese Muslim diplomat
Zheng He. After driving out the Mongol leaders who controlled China, the Chinese fell under the
power of the Ming Dynasty in 1368. In 1405, Yongle, the second emperor of the Ming Dynasty,
appointed Zheng He to lead the first of seven voyages of exploration of the outside world. These
voyages ranged from Southeast Asia to Africa s East coast, with the purpose of establishing trade
relationships with foreign nations and demonstrating Chinese power and superiority to the rest of the
world. Shortly after the last of the seven voyages and the deaths ... Show more content on

The first of Zheng He s voyages were launched in 1405, about 87 years before the voyages of
Christopher Columbus. Columbus had only three ships and 90 crewmen on his famous voyage in 1492
and the size of his ships were 85 feet long. Similarly, Vasco da Gama s 1498 voyage had 4 ships and
160 crewmen and Ferdinand Magellan s 1521 voyage had 5 ships and 265 crewmen. A chart titled
Zheng He s Fleet By the Numbers stated the number of each type of crew personnel on each voyage of
Zheng He s and the number of each type of ship on each voyage. The total number of ships for each
voyage was 255 and the total number of crewmen was 27,000 (Doc. C). An illustration titled Zheng
He by Edward L. Dreyer detailing the size of Zheng He s ships depicts them as being 440 feet long
and 180 feet wide (Doc. C). Zheng He s voyages were not only larger than most known voyages
before his, but also larger than many of the exploration voyages long after his by a significant amount.
His ships were more than five times the size of those of Columbus, his crew 300 times Columbus s
crew, and his fleet 85 times the size of Columbus s fleet. It would have taken very strong leadership by
He to safely and successfully conduct such a large voyage across the vast distances he travelled.
Zheng He s voyages were probably more difficult to lead than many of the voyages after his, including

TurkeyÂŽs Aim to Join the European Union Essay
Amongst the member states of the European Union, the longstanding debate on Turkey s accession
raises a number of significant questions with regards to the identity, power and future of the Union.
Turkey is a key location both economically and tactically, making it a political hotspot for the whole
of Europe and Asia, so why then has so little progress been made within its application for
membership status?
In 1963, it was decided by what was then The European Economic Commission that Turkey was a
suitable applicant for membership and so in 1987 they applied to join. In 2005 accession negotiations
began, however with just one chapter provisionally closed these negotiations came to a standstill in
2006. Negotiations remain frozen, due to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, as Turkey is a loyal ally to NATO, which gives it the added bonus of a substantial military
power, to reject its membership to the EU can be viewed as undermining the integrity of the Union.
Turkey could develop into a major power within the region, which the EU would be wise to have as an
ally, rather than a rival.
As a Eurasian country, Turkey sits on the crossroads of Europe and Asia and could potentially change
the current culture clash between the two continents, acting as a middle ground if it was granted
membership, however with The Bosphorus being classed as the main border delineation of Europe and
Asia it means that just 4% of Turkey actually lies within Europe with the majority being in Asia
(McCormick, 2011). This causes a debate on whether or not Turkey can actually be defined as
European or whether its accession would cause an identity shift within the EU that could potentially
result in drastic geopolitical repercussions. However the geographical location of Turkey would also
provide the European Union with a number of substantial benefits. The strategic location of Turkey in
the heart of Europe, Asia and the Middle East would allow the EU to benefit in several key areas such
as international crime, reusable energy and economy. With Turkey s aid in creating a mutual ground
and breaking the barriers between the differing cultures, the links between

Essay Comparing Dulce Et Decorum Est And Futility
Wilfred Owen combines realism with a romantic lyric poignancy and a visionary mode that enables
him to lead us to a true understanding of the personal costs of war. His veracity and close proximity to
World War one confronts us as well as shows compassion for the young men that fought. Both his
poems Dulce et Decorum est and Futility explore the psychological, physical and the futile costs that
war brought upon us. Owen s poetic skills, vivid language and sensory imagery express his bitter
animosity of those who encourage war in Dulce et Decorum and the pointlessness of war and perhaps
life itself in the poem Futility.
Psychological

Futility starts with Move him into the sun . The verb move is an inexact word however, we feel the
movement has to be gentle in contrast to Dulce et Decorum est where the body was flung into the
Wagon. Straight away we are able to see the contrast of how Owen presents physical death in both
poems. Both poems abundantly use imagery in slightly differently ways; Dulce et Decorum est the
imagery is vividly graphic and grotesque done deliberately to make us feel uncomfortable. The first
stanza begins with soldiers trudging through the ubiquitous sludge and the dual adjective knock kneed
shows physical exhaustion and fatigue of the young men that instantly reverses this idea of them being
noble and healthy fighting. Followed by the visceral imagery the blood come gargling from the froth
corrupted lungs . This effectively recreates the scene Owen witnessed to involve the audience by
encouraging them to hear at every jolt the physical horror the soldiers suffered and invoke their pity.
Owen uses imagery more subtle in Futility. He creates this repetitive image of the sun as having
revitalising ability to bring back the dead and present the realness of physical death on

I Believe In Neurology
Emotions have a strong influence on human lives. My mother s constant battle with anxiety began
after her mother died of a hemorrhagic stroke due to uncontrolled hypertension. Seeing her struggle
with an almost debilitating fear of illness naturally lead to towards trying to better understand the
complex interplay of disease and emotions.
I am naturally curious. In Pakistan due to limited resources and lack of foreign trained professionals,
the government hospitals affiliated with my medical school have no separate Neurology departments.
Instead of this being a hindrance, I considered it a mixed blessing. My curiosity was kindled and I
studied neuroanatomy and neurology with more vigor than most.
My desire for learning took me to the USA for clinical electives at Mount Sinai School of Medicine,
where I had the best experience in a short time frame. My interest in neurology intensified once I was

afforded me an amazing opportunity to view and learn about the surgical aspects of neurological
diseases. In the U.S., I continued to pursue my interest by doing various rotations with neurologist in a
variety of settings.
I am looking for a Neurology residency program which will afford me the opportunity to learn in a
comprehensive fashion taking both science and ethics into account. I am a diligent, curious, and hard
working individual and look forward to honing my interest and using my skills for the betterment of

Precious Movie Sociology
The film Preciouses tell the story of a young girl that faces struggles that many fine hard to believe.
Precious is a teenager that not only lives in poverty but also has been through physical, mental and
sexual abuse. Throughout the film we are introduced to Precious, wanting to escape from her life.
Wanting to be someone else, anyone else just not her self. Precious had always had it hard in her life,
she was never shown anything besides cruelty, hatred and has suffered a tormentors amount of pain.
This essay will show how, gender, race and class had a major impact on why Precious, had to face so
many hardships starting from when she was just an infant. Preciouses being a woman has, had a major
impact in her life. Precious, was raped by her father multiple times and she, does get pregnant by him.

looking back at her is a white woman. In the media black women are underrepresented and it is very
difficult for little black girls too look at a move or show and find someone that looks the way they do.
Even when African American Women are put in magazines their skin tone is often made lighter than it
actually is . In the movie Precious is constantly obsessed with wanting a light skinned boy friend or a
white guy because her surroundings and American society in general has never truly labeled the idea
of being black as being beautiful or even just attractive. Being African American alone left Precious
with many disadvantages since the day she was born. American Americans are more likely than
another race to live in poverty and not have access to education and things like birth control and

Amari s Short Story
In the wonders of life we are often faced with determining our strengths and weaknesses, evidently
this determines our personality, what careers we should choose. We are always labeled by our
character traits and told we should strive to improve our strength and weaknesses. With these thoughts
in mind, I would like to introduce you to Amari, a rather unique individual. Amari was convinced to
take a personality test... You will discover your destiny, they proclaimed... This information will
change your life, they decreed. Yeah right Amari muttered as she rolled her eyes. How will this help? ,
what can this possibly tell me , how does this even matter? All these questions would soon be
answered. Amari leisurely picked up her pencil to start her test. She filled her answers in one after the

found out about what they say is her so called personality. The packet stated, As an ISTJ, your primary
mode of living is focused internally...ISTJ s are quiet and reserved individuals who are interested in
security and peaceful living... ISTJ s are very loyal, faithful, and dependable... the packet also
exclaimed her strengths and weaknesses. Amari looked at her strengths, it stated, An ISTJ has a stick
to it attitude... value for social structure... respect for rules and orders... their desire to execute known
systems against concrete facts. She then turned the page to learn about what they assume as an ISTJ s
weaknesses. The packet exclaimed, ISTJ s weaknesses... Tendancy to belive that there always right...

Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment Quiz
I choose to take the Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment quiz. When I taught preschool and as the
trainer for my department I have learned that there are many different methods in which people learn.
I have learned to adapt how I teach and train based on what is required by the learner. Due to this I
was curious to determine the variety of learning methods that work best for me. I discovered that I
have a broad range of ways in which I learn best. I have always excelled at learning and find that I
learn fairly quickly, so this is not surprising to me. What did surprise me was that my highest
percentage was naturalistic. One question that I often ask is, Why? I enjoy having a knowledge of how
things work and the ability to understand a variety of subjects, but did not realize how highly it
impacted my learning. The few categories where I scored low were music and body kinesthetic.
Neither of these surprise me much. When I work and am trying to concentrate I find that music and
movement is very distracting. I have learned to eliminate them when focus and concentration is
crucial. The rest of the categories I scored from 49% to 63%. I feel this explains my ability to learn a
broad spectrum of things quickly no matter what the method of learning is. The two areas where I
scored the highest were interpersonal and intrapersonal. This explains my drive for success, ability to
gain insight into a variety of situations and people, my solid foundation in who I am and what

Life Changing Experiences In My Life
There have been many painful and life changing experiences in my days, but the most unforgettable
and also life changing experience was the time I was ran over by a golf cart. This story goes to show
that even the most painful and troubling situations can have positive outcomes. God has a plan for
everything that happens in our lives; all we need to do is go in blind and there will be light at the end
of the tunnel. Trust in him, and he will take care of us. It was a cold afternoon and as my family
prepared for church, my older sister decided she would very much enjoy a small ride on the golf cart
that my grandparents had acquired a while back. My sister, in her most kind hearted way, asked if I
wanted to travel with her on the buggy to the church early and, of course, I accepted her invitation on
this luxurious offer. I scurried down the stairs, grabbed my penny loafers, ran back up the stairs, and
out the door to the buggy, which was halted in the driveway with my sister waiting. After I hopped on,
she pulled out of the driveway and traveled down the road on our way to church. The service was very
inspiring, as always, and the knowledge that I had acquired made my day even better. As we walked
out the doors of the church and headed to the buggy, I asked my sister if I could drive back to the
house but, as expected, she declined. A little bit of happiness left my heart as I mumbled, Oh, ok. I
guess I will just walk home.
As my sister scooted to the edge of the entrance

Fragile X Syndrome Inherited
How is Fragile X Syndrome Inherited?
Genes are a huge part of DNA that are passed from generation to generation. There are many genes on
each chromosome; we have tens of thousands of genes that tell or bodies on how to develop. Genes
are given letters to identify them. The gene responsible for fragile X syndrome is called FMR1. The
FMR1 Gene is on the X chromosome. The FMR1 gene appears in four forms that are shown by the
number of repeats of a pattern of DNA called CGG repeats. Individuals with less than 45 CGG repeats
have a normal FMR1 gene. Those with 45 54 CGG repeats have what is called an intermediate or grey
zone allele, which does not cause any of the known fragile X associated disorders. Individuals with 55
200 CGG repeats have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who are carriers of the Fragile X gene often have high levels of anxiety. Women who are
carriers may experience primary ovarian insufficiency, which is a loss of normal function in your

women who are carriers can also develop Fragile X tremor ataxia syndrome (FXTAS), the breaking
down of the brain. Men are more likely to develop FXTAS than women. FXTAS usually occurs at the
age of 50. It can affect balance and memory, and cause tremors and other neurological problems. A

Noblest Character In Julius Caesar
I think the noblest character is Antony himself. He always supported Cesar even if it did not seem like
it. He took the side of the murders to survive but never forgot what they had done. An example of this
is at Cesar s funeral he speaks up against Brutus and everyone else because he was smart he knew
everyone there was a supporter of him and Cesar. H was very well with words he managed to turn
supporters of the murders against them and he was very ambitious because he didn t let anyone else in
on it besides octaves. The main reason Antony is the noblest in my book is he had respect for Brutus
even though he killed his friend because he understood that a man is noble to fight for what he

The Effects Of Homelessness On The United States
In Stanislaus county the homeless population has grown from 1,156 in 2005 to 1,800 today and still
growing. Modesto had the highest count of homelessness with 983 documented homeless individuals
according to a 2015 Modesto Bee study and sadly, the amount increases as surrounding areas begin to
enforce strict laws. These laws criminalize and relocate homeless folk to our county. There are no
exceptions to the cold reality of homelessness: men, women, children, military veterans, individuals,
and families are included in the rising numbers of homelessness in Stanislaus County. According to
the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, the leading cause of homelessness in the
United States is the lack of affordable housing. Exposing the problems and cause will allow us to
figure out how we can work towards a solution. The answer to diminishing homelessness is to invest
in permanent housing. By working together as a community and devising a plan, we could reduce and
possibly end homelessness in Stanislaus County.
Individuals and families are being kicked from their homes due to the rising costs of living. Some
people can not afford these costs with their annual income and now have forced to the streets or into
homeless shelters. Many people might say that homelessness can never be avoided nor stopped but
there is hope. By creating a monumental moment in effort to end homelessness, New York city was
capable of providing productive results of reducing homelessness in

Reality Boy Theme
Through the beginning to the middle of November, I read the book Reality Boy by A.S. King. Reality
Boy is about Gerald Faust, a kid in highschool who had his whole childhood screwed up because he
was on reality TV. His mom thought he was retarded, his sister constantly beats him up, and the whole
world laughed in amusement as they watched him take craps everywhere. The book was interesting
because he started out as a kid known as The Crapper and he was able to turn his life around for the
better. The theme of this novel is that even though you have experienced awful things in your life and
has been screwed inside and out, you can still overcome the obstacles that stand in your way of
success. For example, on page 260, A.S. King writes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a lot of adult themed topics throughout the book like sex, cursing, and many others. A young
reader, for example, my sister who is eight years old, shouldn t be reading this because nobody wants
an eight year old kid going around and yelling F*K THIS S**T! (King 104). I am pretty sure you get
the picture with the other topics. I recommend that librarians should put a warning label or a parental
advisory sign on it or something because this book should not be in our library and especially an
elementary s library. Speaking of this book, I give it an 8 out of 10. It is interesting and funny at some
points, but I just didn t like how his entire childhood was ruined because of his family. I really wish
that there were less cursing in it because most of it is unnecessary. But, if this book was in a series, I
would definitely read it. In conclusion, Reality Boy by A.S. King is an interesting but inappropriate

Associating is like the backbone structure of DNA s double helix; four patterns of action (questioning,

insights. And just as each person s physical DNA is unique, each individual we studied had a unique
innovator s DNA for generating breakthrough business ideas.
Imagine that you have an identical twin, endowed with the same brains and natural talents that you

Tacoos And Logos In Advertising
Do you recognize any of these images? I know I do. Nike, Taco Bell, Target. But what do all of these
pictures have in common?
All of these images are logos. No, not the kind of logos that we learn about in English each year,
instead, these are images that each respective company has chosen to stand as an easy symbol that
consumers will recognize whenever they see it. Usually, along with a short slogan. You know what I
mean: Live Mas, Just Do It, I m Lovin It.
But did you know that these companies have been conditioning you your entire life without you

My solution is to be aware. Did you know that many supermarkets use the smell of freshly baked
bread to encourage bread sales? And fast food restaurants are designed to have bright lighting and
uncomfortable seating to encourage customers to eat and get out of there fast, making room for the
next customers? Well, the goal here is to know and be aware of this. That way, if we don t want to be

Akron Zoo Negotiation
One example in particular started early on in the process when two or three precinct 3 E pastors
vocally opposed Issues 23 and 24. They felt like the community was only doing things for the Akron
Zoo, as in, they felt like the community was always putting together efforts that would only benefit us,
Criss said. This feedback from the pastors came after two town hall meetings organized by
councilwoman Sommervile. I think that s when we decided that we needed to sit down with these
religious leaders to facilitate a conversation about what passing the issues meant, Barnhardt said.
Because the Akron Zoo felt that the pastors in the targeted area were opinion leaders, a one on one
conversation was chosen to facilitate an open dialogue about the issues. Both Criss and Barnhardt felt
that the open conversation with the pastors allowed for clearing up confusion and misconceptions
about what Issues 23 and 24 would mean for the zoo if passed. Criss commented ... Show more

Myrtle Wilson And Macbeth
The paths of greed and vanity will always lead to one s downfall. The character of Myrtle Wilson from
the novel The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Lady Macbeth from the play Macbeth
by William Shakespeare both successfully demonstrate the deadly sin of greed through their immoral
actions to gain their own personal desire for wealth and power, eventually leading to their downfall.
To begin, the character of Myrtle Wilson carries out an affair with Tom Buchanan to obtain
materialistic items motivated by her greed. In The Great Gatsby Myrtle Wilson demonstrates greed in
the presence of Tom Buchanan. In essence, Tom is a wealthy individual, and Myrtle is able to conduct
a luxurious lifestyle as long as she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In comparison, Lady Macbeth illustrates the deadly sin of greed through her strong desire to become
Queen of Scotland. In the play Macbeth , Lady Macbeth learns of Macbeth s prophecy through a letter
that claims he will become King. Lady Macbeth states, Lady Macbeth: Hie thee hither, that I may pour
my spirits in thine ear; and chastise with the valor of my tongue, all that impedes thee from the golden
round. (Shakespeare 1.5.28 31) Lady Macbeth is now aware of her husband s prophecy, and
immediately desires all the power and added benefits that come with her husband being King.
Likewise, Lady Macbeth is characterized as a greedy individual by wanting Macbeth to take any
action necessary to become King so she may become Queen. She discovers that Macbeth s first two
prophecies have already come true, and is quick to take action so the third prophecy will come true. To
add on, Lady Macbeth uses a metaphor to express her desire to Macbeth pour my spirits in thine ear ,
she wants to inform Macbeth of her plan to murder King Duncan so Macbeth may become King; this
illustrates that Lady Macbeth is willing to commit an immoral action to gain power. In addition, Lady
Macbeth realizes that Macbeth lacks the courage to commit murder to immediately obtain the golden
round referring to the crown; therefore she manipulates him by insulting him, motivated by her

The Divine Comedy Essay
In Dante Alighieri s personal narrative poem, The Divine Comedy, he describes a fictional journey
that he underwent through hell in the section titled Inferno. He tells the audience that midway along
the journey of our life I woke to find myself in a dark wood, for I had wandered off from the straight
path (Dante 1:1 3). Dante must go on a journey through hell and purgatory and learn important lessons
with his guide, Virgil, in order to reach heaven. Dante integrates exemplum , or examples, and
personal experiences with the shades in hell to portray lessons that he must learn, such as how he must
learn to not pity the sinners, to differentiate between his respect for faith versus his respect for people,
and that he must not get too much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end, Dante quickly reveals that his name is Filippo Argenti, who was a man who lived in
Florence at the same time as Dante, which is most likely why Dante mentioned that he recognized the
soul. This canto is important because it is not long after his encounter with Francesca and Paolo,
where he pitied the two lovers so much that he passed out. In this canto, Dante has already started to
change his vision of the souls stuck in hell because he does not pity Filippo Argenti for ending up in
hell. Dante has even started to gain pleasure from seeing the souls in hell, because he says that he still
thanks the Lord for allowing him to see the sight of Argenti being attacked by the other shades. In
addition to his reaction to the shade, it is clear that Dante is learning his lesson about not pitying the
souls in hell because Virgil encourages Dante s lack of pity towards Argenti in this canto. In the
nineteenth canto, Dante has an encounter with a pope who ended up in hell for committing simony. He
is curious about the fact that there are small holes everywhere with feet sticking out of them, and a
specific pair of feet which are writhing more than any of his comrades and licked by a redder flame
(Dante 19:32 33) catch his attention. Dante asks the soul to make a sound if he can hear Dante

Persuasive Speech On Whale Captivity
How would you feel if you were a killer whale performing in front of thousands of people? For many
years people have argued if killer whales should be kept in captivity or not. Blackfish, a documentary
on Seaworld and killer whales, had argued with Seaworld against whale captivity. Killer whale
captivity must be banned because whales can get ill or injured, they can be dangerous to humans, and
they can get separated from their families. Killer whales captivity is a major issue because they could
become sick or injured there. According to Blackfish, orca whales in captivity tend to become hyper
aggressive towards new whales. This results in whale on whale incidents where the whales can get
severely injured, or can even die. Some examples of these incidents, as The Dodo has said, are a male
whale named Nakai had his chin torn off in a fight. Additionally, a female whale named Kandu broke
her own jaw and cut her artery in a fight, eventually bleeding to death. Her calf was circling around
her during the event. In addition, the Huffington Post states, animals may suffer from captivity related
stresses that lower their resistance and make them more susceptible to disease, making lifespans in
captivity significantly lower than in the wild. To add on, The Dodo states, One big issue was the
terrible state of the orcas teeth. Captive orcas are already at risk for dental trauma bored and stressed,
they often begin gnawing on the edges of their tanks. They also state that these occurrences in the wild
are very rare. Also, whales like Tilikum got a lung infection due to bacterial pneumonia, which is the
most common reason why captive whales and dolphins die (according to Wikipedia). Tilikum had also
died due to the disease. This indicates that whale captivity leads to many incidents and diseases that
the whales would not have faced in the wild. All these problems are caused due to them being captive.
Orca captivity is also dangerous for human beings. For example, Tilikum was the cause of the death of
3 people as shown in Blackfish. First, he and 2 other whales drowned Keltie Byrne, who had slipped
into the pool. She was screaming and tried to escape, but the whales pulled her back and drowned her.

Arguments Against Just War Theory
The just war theory has been considered one of the greatest oxymorons. How could an act that
involves so much bloodshed and destruction be considered just? And how could peace be achieved
through such violence? It is said that All who take the sword shall perish with the sword (Aquinas
484). Does that then mean that all wars should be condemned along with all who partake in it?
According to St. Thomas Aquinas, not all acts of war can be justified; however, there are certain
instances when a state should take up arms against another that threatens the peace and the safety of
any group people. Yet, the battles and wars waged must not be of malicious intent, such as to
humiliate, revenge, or simply destroy the other side. Therefore, it is the right of a nation to protect its
people against an enemy and to take military actions if a direct threat is made against them, and if
those military actions are executed solely for the purpose of the restoration of peace and the protection
of those in danger, then any blood shed shall not be on the hands of those defending, but instead they
shall hold the tools needed for peace.
Throughout time, it seems as though nations and leaders have constantly had to call to arms their
militaries and brace their countries against nations abroad, and in ... Show more content on

Child Abuse And Spousal Abuse
A term that is quite often used in today s society is family violence, more specifically child abuse and
spousal abuse. A term that is not heard often is elder abuse, which is unfortunate due to the fact that it
is a fairly common occurrence. It was estimated that in 2009, one in ten elderly Americans were
victims of elder abuse within the previous year (Acierno, 2010). Even though elder abuse is prevalent
here in America, it is seldom that this phenomenon is actually discussed. According to the National
Center on Elder Abuse, there are seven types of elder abuse: physical abuse, sexual abuse,
psychological abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, self neglect, and abandonment (Fischer, 2012, p.
102). The American Medical Association defines elder abuse and/or neglect as an act of commission
or omission that results in harm or threatened harm to the health or welfare of an older adult whether
intentional or unintentional (Read, 2016, p. 32). In the 1950 s, public welfare officials were faced with
an increasing number of older persons who were unable to manage on their own and began to develop
a new approach to providing services, which they called protective service units (Bonnie Wallace,
2003, p. 238). Due to their interest, Congress passed legislation, as part of the Social Security Act,
providing funds to the states (Bonnie Wallace, 2003, p. 239) in order to set up these protective service
units. In 1974, Congress amended the Social Security Act,

the temperature was below zero. The article about the Alaskan man says, A man in Alaska says it s a
miracle that he survived three days in the wilderness while battling sub zero temperatures (News).
Similarly, in To Build a Fire states, ...it was colder than 60 below, than seventy below. It was 75 below

himself. Craig Johnson was nothing but a snack to the wolverine therefore there was no bond between
the animal and the man. However, the dog in To Build A Fire did not try to harm the man in anyway.
At the end of the story in To Build A Fire the man had passed due to the cold weather. The dog did not
think about eating the man while he laid in the snow lifeless. The story states, And still later it moved

The Six Primary Processes Of The Digestive System
The digestive system is an organ system which consists of a group of organs working together to
convert food into energy and nutrients which helps to maintain the body. The organs that make up the
digestive system include the pancreas and salivary glands, small intestine, liver, stomach and large
intestines.
The function of the digestive system is to digest and absorb. Digestion is the breakdown of food into
smaller molecules which are them later absorbed in the body. The digestive system is divided into two
major parts: the digestive tract and the accessory organs. Inside the mouth there are accessory organs
which help with the digestion of food such as the teeth, tongue and salivary glands. The six primary
processes of the digestive system include:

Teeth are hard organs found along the anterior and lateral edge of the mouth. Each tooth consists of a

tongue is a small organ which is covered in a thin, bumpy, skin like layer. The taste buds on the
surface of the tongue detect taste molecules in food and connect to nerves in the tongue to send taste
information to the brain. The tongue also helps to push food toward the posterior part of the mouth for

Persuasive Essay On Video Games And Violence
Video Games and Violence In today s world, one of the big topics is whether video games cause
violence. I strongly believe that it isn t the case. Having been an avid gamer for most of my life and
knowing thousands more, I have seen first hand video games do not cause violence. I know you don t
want to just take my word for it, so I will show you through others as well.
Video games in their entirety do not cause violence. When you look at the games that are out now,
most depict events in life past or present. Others go on a fairy tale ride that most people can discern
the difference. One of the biggest games of all time that go on the fairy tale ride is Grand Theft Auto.
GTA has been one of the best selling and most controversial games ever made Kids from all ages play

main goal is to get to the end. Sure, you have to do some questionable things along the way but at the

New Bedford Harbor Pollution Essay
New Bedford Harbor, the world s famous whaling seaport and current number one fishing port in
America, continues to be plagued by toxic pollution, which has caused it to become one of the largest
EPA Superfund cleanup sites. The harbor, an urban estuary, contains sediment that is highly
contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The PCB containing industrial waste was
introduced into the harbor by two manufacturing facilities from the 1940 s to the 1970 s when the EPA
banned the production of PCBs. The result was contamination of six miles of the harbor bottom from
the Acushnet River into Buzzards Bay; over 100,000 people currently reside within 3 miles of the
contaminated area. PCBs do not break down easily in the environment and therefore pose a serious
risk to human health and the environment. Thus, in 1982, the harbor was put onto the EPA s National
Priorities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With extra funding, the EPA would be able to clean sediments down to the 1 ppm level of PCBs that
the majority of similar waterway cleanups are subjected to, rather than the 50 ppm level they are
planning on. This target level would allow the harbor to be safely fished for the first time in decades.
Furthermore, we are demanding that the contaminated sediments are shipped off site to a federally
approved landfill as they were in the initial plan, rather than disposed of hazardously on site in CDFs
or CADs. Storing the contaminated soil on site would require that the soils be exposed to air while
dewatering, which would allow the PCBs to become airborne and pose a serious health risk (4, 5). Our
children and grandchildren deserve a clean harbor one where they can swim, play, and explore without
fear. This vision for the future will be a reality if we negotiate with the EPA to amend their Record of
Decision with more efficient cleanup

A Brief Note On Sociological Theory Development Of African...
Unit 9 DB 1
Appling Sociological Theory Development
Introduction
There have been many career criminals, but most of them have been Caucasian, so I decided to see if
we had any African male or female career criminals, and despite the myth that there are no black serial
killers, there are, but there are very few because, there are not a lot of agencies that keep the statistics
of the number of African American serial killers compared with Caucasians. Based on information
received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond County Sheriff department he
explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime does not maintain
statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of national repository that can keep up let
alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout the U.S.
So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a
nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look out
for. Moreover, serial killers tend to span all racial groups. There are Asian, white, Hispanic, and
African American serial killers. Basically, the racial diversification of serial killers usually mirrors that
of the overall population.

Dulce Et Decorum Est Effects Of War
Wilfred Owen s anti war poem Dulce et Decorum Est graphically illustrates the negative experiences
of war. From the death to lack of basic supplies Owen s poem relays the conditions of the thousands
who fought in the front lines during World War I. The last four lines sums up the message Owen is
attempting to make to the public you have been told it is sweet and proper to die for one s country ,
but it is not these are the atrocities faced by those fighting for you and they are not something that is a
wanted experience.
To fully experience the poem the reader must first understand two things: the historical events

(The present simple plunges is again nicely ambiguous, so that we cannot really tell whether the
repetitions were at the time, or since, or both.) My conclusion would be that, insofar as the poem
suggests or accommodates such a reading, it also can seem to broaden and deepen its grasp, even so
far as to acknowledge covertly that the deepest, complicating iniquity of war is that its events can
dispossess one of one s best self, dividing oneself from oneself and others and overwhelming one s
most humane of responses toward pity and truth (Hughes 4).
Owen is haunted by his man who was not able to get his gas mask on in time to avoid the harmful
effects of the gas that was used in the war. By not being able to help the other soldier Owen feels as if
he is somehow responsible because he did not help the man as he was plunging for Owen s mask. The

  • 2. Essay On J. H. Picard Othello What is the cruelest way to punish a man: to kill him, or to rob him of everything he loves? To imprison him, or strip him of all sense, morals and honor? J.H. Picard s production of Othello explored these questions and more in a tale of love, deception, and hatred. Written by the king of theater himself, William Shakespeare, Othello unfolds in an Italy overrun by misogyny and racism. When the Moorish general Othello denies his aide, Iago, a promotion and marries a girl who has blatantly betrayed her father, Iago becomes determined to seek his revenge. How so? By manipulation and a bag full of the seeds of doubt, just waiting to be sown. In a unique blend of modern and classical styles, J.H. Picard brought a level of energy to the stage that no ordinary group of Shakespearean actors could. Although some lines were missed by the audience due to rushed dialogue, the cast used clever gestures and voices to vocalize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each word effortlessly rolled off his tongue in excellent Shakespearean diction, giving the impression of a strong, scheming character. Alongside him was Jonah Lechot as the play s namesake, Othello. He was expressive and bold in his performance, making his presence known from the moment he stepped on stage. Although the play focused primarily on male characters, some of the most notable performances emerged from the female roles. The wives of Othello and Iago, Desdemona and Emilia respectively, were confident and charming in their roles. In song, in speech, and even in death, their interactions were continually heartwarming and heartbreaking. While the leads enchanted the audience at the front of the stage, the ensemble of young women, consisting of Maddison Kingham, Daisy Brazil and Neressa Wimberly, brought humor and sass to the show, never once dropping character. They undoubtedly became a refreshing relief from the melancholic mood of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well, there are programs our government provides to our elderly to help them buy food, find a place to live and most importantly, help insure them. Medicare is a program that was initially created by Harry S. Truman in 1948, but Congress failed to enact it ( Curing the Health Care System ). Later it was refined by LBJ in 1965 as part of Great Society to help the war on poverty . Medicare benefits millions of senior citizens over 65 by giving them free health care or helping pay part of it. Before Medicare there was private insurance that helped people, but with Medicare a lot more people have access to health insurance. Today, Medicare provides over 52.3 million Americans with affordable health insurance. The government started taking action to help the elderly through social problems in the mid 19th century. In May of 1964, Johnson had summed up his grand vision for America in a speech at the University of Michigan, he declared that the Great Society demands an end to poverty and racial injustice... just the beginning (Johnson). Before LBJ and Congress brought about the first major change in Social Security, any government system that provides monetary assistance to people with an inadequate or no income, by establishing Medicare for the seniors, elderly people bought their health insurance from private ... • 5. Dbq Zheng He s 7 Voyages The most well known expeditions are those of European explorers such as Christopher Columbus, but there are many lesser known voyages from history, including the voyages of Chinese Muslim diplomat Zheng He. After driving out the Mongol leaders who controlled China, the Chinese fell under the power of the Ming Dynasty in 1368. In 1405, Yongle, the second emperor of the Ming Dynasty, appointed Zheng He to lead the first of seven voyages of exploration of the outside world. These voyages ranged from Southeast Asia to Africa s East coast, with the purpose of establishing trade relationships with foreign nations and demonstrating Chinese power and superiority to the rest of the world. The first of Zheng He s voyages were launched in 1405, about 87 years before the voyages of Christopher Columbus. Columbus had only three ships and 90 crewmen on his famous voyage in 1492 and the size of his ships were 85 feet long. Similarly, Vasco da Gama s 1498 voyage had 4 ships and 160 crewmen and Ferdinand Magellan s 1521 voyage had 5 ships and 265 crewmen. A chart titled Zheng He s Fleet By the Numbers stated the number of each type of crew personnel on each voyage of Zheng He s and the number of each type of ship on each voyage. The total number of ships for each voyage was 255 and the total number of crewmen was 27,000 (Doc. C). An illustration titled Zheng He by Edward L. Dreyer detailing the size of Zheng He s ships depicts them as being 440 feet long and 180 feet wide (Doc. C). Zheng He s voyages were not only larger than most known voyages before his, but also larger than many of the exploration voyages long after his by a significant amount. His ships were more than five times the size of those of Columbus, his crew 300 times Columbus s crew, and his fleet 85 times the size of Columbus s fleet. It would have taken very strong leadership by He to safely and successfully conduct such a large voyage across the vast distances he travelled. • 6. TurkeyÂŽs Aim to Join the European Union Essay Amongst the member states of the European Union, the longstanding debate on Turkey s accession raises a number of significant questions with regards to the identity, power and future of the Union. Turkey is a key location both economically and tactically, making it a political hotspot for the whole of Europe and Asia, so why then has so little progress been made within its application for membership status? In 1963, it was decided by what was then The European Economic Commission that Turkey was a suitable applicant for membership and so in 1987 they applied to join. In 2005 accession negotiations began, however with just one chapter provisionally closed these negotiations came to a standstill in 2006. Negotiations remain frozen, due to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, as Turkey is a loyal ally to NATO, which gives it the added bonus of a substantial military power, to reject its membership to the EU can be viewed as undermining the integrity of the Union. Turkey could develop into a major power within the region, which the EU would be wise to have as an ally, rather than a rival. As a Eurasian country, Turkey sits on the crossroads of Europe and Asia and could potentially change the current culture clash between the two continents, acting as a middle ground if it was granted membership, however with The Bosphorus being classed as the main border delineation of Europe and Asia it means that just 4% of Turkey actually lies within Europe with the majority being in Asia (McCormick, 2011). This causes a debate on whether or not Turkey can actually be defined as European or whether its accession would cause an identity shift within the EU that could potentially result in drastic geopolitical repercussions. However the geographical location of Turkey would also provide the European Union with a number of substantial benefits. The strategic location of Turkey in the heart of Europe, Asia and the Middle East would allow the EU to benefit in several key areas such as international crime, reusable energy and economy. • 7. Essay Comparing Dulce Et Decorum Est And Futility Wilfred Owen combines realism with a romantic lyric poignancy and a visionary mode that enables him to lead us to a true understanding of the personal costs of war. His veracity and close proximity to World War one confronts us as well as shows compassion for the young men that fought. Both his poems Dulce et Decorum est and Futility explore the psychological, physical and the futile costs that war brought upon us. Owen s poetic skills, vivid language and sensory imagery express his bitter animosity of those who encourage war in Dulce et Decorum and the pointlessness of war and perhaps life itself in the poem Futility. Futility starts with Move him into the sun . The verb move is an inexact word however, we feel the movement has to be gentle in contrast to Dulce et Decorum est where the body was flung into the Wagon. Straight away we are able to see the contrast of how Owen presents physical death in both poems. Both poems abundantly use imagery in slightly differently ways; Dulce et Decorum est the imagery is vividly graphic and grotesque done deliberately to make us feel uncomfortable. The first stanza begins with soldiers trudging through the ubiquitous sludge and the dual adjective knock kneed shows physical exhaustion and fatigue of the young men that instantly reverses this idea of them being noble and healthy fighting. Followed by the visceral imagery the blood come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs . This effectively recreates the scene Owen witnessed to involve the audience by encouraging them to hear at every jolt the physical horror the soldiers suffered and invoke their pity. Owen uses imagery more subtle in Futility. He creates this repetitive image of the sun as having revitalising ability to bring back the dead and present the realness of physical death on ... My mother s constant battle with anxiety began after her mother died of a hemorrhagic stroke due to uncontrolled hypertension. Seeing her struggle with an almost debilitating fear of illness naturally lead to towards trying to better understand the complex interplay of disease and emotions. I am naturally curious. In Pakistan due to limited resources and lack of foreign trained professionals, the government hospitals affiliated with my medical school have no separate Neurology departments. Instead of this being a hindrance, I considered it a mixed blessing. My curiosity was kindled and I studied neuroanatomy and neurology with more vigor than most. • 11. Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment Quiz I choose to take the Multiple Intelligences Self Assessment quiz. When I taught preschool and as the trainer for my department I have learned that there are many different methods in which people learn. I have learned to adapt how I teach and train based on what is required by the learner. Due to this I was curious to determine the variety of learning methods that work best for me. I discovered that I have a broad range of ways in which I learn best. I have always excelled at learning and find that I learn fairly quickly, so this is not surprising to me. What did surprise me was that my highest percentage was naturalistic. One question that I often ask is, Why? I enjoy having a knowledge of how things work and the ability to understand a variety of subjects, but did not realize how highly it impacted my learning. The few categories where I scored low were music and body kinesthetic. Neither of these surprise me much. When I work and am trying to concentrate I find that music and movement is very distracting. • 12. Life Changing Experiences In My Life There have been many painful and life changing experiences in my days, but the most unforgettable and also life changing experience was the time I was ran over by a golf cart. This story goes to show that even the most painful and troubling situations can have positive outcomes. God has a plan for everything that happens in our lives; all we need to do is go in blind and there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Trust in him, and he will take care of us. It was a cold afternoon and as my family prepared for church, my older sister decided she would very much enjoy a small ride on the golf cart that my grandparents had acquired a while back. My sister, in her most kind hearted way, asked if I wanted to travel with her on the buggy to the church early and, of course, I accepted her invitation on this luxurious offer. I scurried down the stairs, grabbed my penny loafers, ran back up the stairs, and out the door to the buggy, which was halted in the driveway with my sister waiting. After I hopped on, she pulled out of the driveway and traveled down the road on our way to church. The service was very inspiring, as always, and the knowledge that I had acquired made my day even better. As we walked out the doors of the church and headed to the buggy, I asked my sister if I could drive back to the house but, as expected, she declined. A little bit of happiness left my heart as I mumbled, Oh, ok. I guess I will just walk home. As my sister scooted to the edge of the entrance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Fragile X Syndrome Inherited How is Fragile X Syndrome Inherited? Genes are a huge part of DNA that are passed from generation to generation. There are many genes on each chromosome; we have tens of thousands of genes that tell or bodies on how to develop. Genes are given letters to identify them. The gene responsible for fragile X syndrome is called FMR1. The FMR1 Gene is on the X chromosome. The FMR1 gene appears in four forms that are shown by the number of repeats of a pattern of DNA called CGG repeats. Individuals with less than 45 CGG repeats have a normal FMR1 gene. Modesto had the highest count of homelessness with 983 documented homeless individuals according to a 2015 Modesto Bee study and sadly, the amount increases as surrounding areas begin to enforce strict laws. These laws criminalize and relocate homeless folk to our county. There are no exceptions to the cold reality of homelessness: men, women, children, military veterans, individuals, and families are included in the rising numbers of homelessness in Stanislaus County. According to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, the leading cause of homelessness in the United States is the lack of affordable housing. Exposing the problems and cause will allow us to figure out how we can work towards a solution. The answer to diminishing homelessness is to invest in permanent housing. By working together as a community and devising a plan, we could reduce and possibly end homelessness in Stanislaus County. Individuals and families are being kicked from their homes due to the rising costs of living. Some people can not afford these costs with their annual income and now have forced to the streets or into homeless shelters. Reality Boy is about Gerald Faust, a kid in highschool who had his whole childhood screwed up because he was on reality TV. The book was interesting because he started out as a kid known as The Crapper and he was able to turn his life around for the better. He tells the audience that midway along the journey of our life I woke to find myself in a dark wood, for I had wandered off from the straight path (Dante 1:1 3). Dante must go on a journey through hell and purgatory and learn important lessons with his guide, Virgil, in order to reach heaven. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end, Dante quickly reveals that his name is Filippo Argenti, who was a man who lived in Florence at the same time as Dante, which is most likely why Dante mentioned that he recognized the soul. This canto is important because it is not long after his encounter with Francesca and Paolo, where he pitied the two lovers so much that he passed out. In this canto, Dante has already started to change his vision of the souls stuck in hell because he does not pity Filippo Argenti for ending up in hell. Dante has even started to gain pleasure from seeing the souls in hell, because he says that he still thanks the Lord for allowing him to see the sight of Argenti being attacked by the other shades. In addition to his reaction to the shade, it is clear that Dante is learning his lesson about not pitying the souls in hell because Virgil encourages Dante s lack of pity towards Argenti in this canto. In the nineteenth canto, Dante has an encounter with a pope who ended up in hell for committing simony. He is curious about the fact that there are small holes everywhere with feet sticking out of them, and a specific pair of feet which are writhing more than any of his comrades and licked by a redder flame (Dante 19:32 33) catch his attention. • 27. Persuasive Speech On Whale Captivity How would you feel if you were a killer whale performing in front of thousands of people? For many years people have argued if killer whales should be kept in captivity or not. Blackfish, a documentary on Seaworld and killer whales, had argued with Seaworld against whale captivity. Killer whale captivity must be banned because whales can get ill or injured, they can be dangerous to humans, and they can get separated from their families. Killer whales captivity is a major issue because they could become sick or injured there. According to Blackfish, orca whales in captivity tend to become hyper aggressive towards new whales. This results in whale on whale incidents where the whales can get severely injured, or can even die. Some examples of these incidents, as The Dodo has said, are a male whale named Nakai had his chin torn off in a fight. Additionally, a female whale named Kandu broke her own jaw and cut her artery in a fight, eventually bleeding to death. Her calf was circling around her during the event. In addition, the Huffington Post states, animals may suffer from captivity related stresses that lower their resistance and make them more susceptible to disease, making lifespans in captivity significantly lower than in the wild. To add on, The Dodo states, One big issue was the terrible state of the orcas teeth. Captive orcas are already at risk for dental trauma bored and stressed, they often begin gnawing on the edges of their tanks. They also state that these occurrences in the wild are very rare. Also, whales like Tilikum got a lung infection due to bacterial pneumonia, which is the most common reason why captive whales and dolphins die (according to Wikipedia). Tilikum had also died due to the disease. This indicates that whale captivity leads to many incidents and diseases that the whales would not have faced in the wild. All these problems are caused due to them being captive. Orca captivity is also dangerous for human beings. For example, Tilikum was the cause of the death of 3 people as shown in Blackfish. • 28. Arguments Against Just War Theory The just war theory has been considered one of the greatest oxymorons. How could an act that involves so much bloodshed and destruction be considered just? And how could peace be achieved through such violence? It is said that All who take the sword shall perish with the sword (Aquinas 484). Does that then mean that all wars should be condemned along with all who partake in it? According to St. Thomas Aquinas, not all acts of war can be justified; however, there are certain instances when a state should take up arms against another that threatens the peace and the safety of any group people. Yet, the battles and wars waged must not be of malicious intent, such as to humiliate, revenge, or simply destroy the other side. Therefore, it is the right of a nation to protect its people against an enemy and to take military actions if a direct threat is made against them, and if those military actions are executed solely for the purpose of the restoration of peace and the protection of those in danger, then any blood shed shall not be on the hands of those defending, but instead they shall hold the tools needed for peace. A term that is not heard often is elder abuse, which is unfortunate due to the fact that it is a fairly common occurrence. It was estimated that in 2009, one in ten elderly Americans were victims of elder abuse within the previous year (Acierno, 2010). Even though elder abuse is prevalent here in America, it is seldom that this phenomenon is actually discussed. According to the National Center on Elder Abuse, there are seven types of elder abuse: physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, self neglect, and abandonment (Fischer, 2012, p. 102). The American Medical Association defines elder abuse and/or neglect as an act of commission or omission that results in harm or threatened harm to the health or welfare of an older adult whether intentional or unintentional (Read, 2016, p. 32). In the 1950 s, public welfare officials were faced with an increasing number of older persons who were unable to manage on their own and began to develop a new approach to providing services, which they called protective service units (Bonnie Wallace, 2003, p. 238). Due to their interest, Congress passed legislation, as part of the Social Security Act, providing funds to the states (Bonnie Wallace, 2003, p. 239) in order to set up these protective service units. Teeth are hard organs found along the anterior and lateral edge of the mouth. Each tooth consists of a bone like structure called dentin which is covered by a layer of enamel. Enamel is the hardest substance in the body. The teeth are designed for cutting and grinding food into smaller pieces. The tongue is a small organ which is covered in a thin, bumpy, skin like layer. The taste buds on the surface of the tongue detect taste molecules in food and connect to nerves in the tongue to send taste information to the brain. The tongue also helps to push food toward the posterior part of the mouth for swallowing. Salivary glands produce watery secretion known as saliva. Saliva moistens the food and begins the digestion of carbohydrates. The body used the saliva as a lubrication as food passes through the oesophagus. • 34. Persuasive Essay On Video Games And Violence Video Games and Violence In today s world, one of the big topics is whether video games cause violence. I strongly believe that it isn t the case. Having been an avid gamer for most of my life and knowing thousands more, I have seen first hand video games do not cause violence. I know you don t want to just take my word for it, so I will show you through others as well. Video games in their entirety do not cause violence. When you look at the games that are out now, most depict events in life past or present. Others go on a fairy tale ride that most people can discern the difference. One of the biggest games of all time that go on the fairy tale ride is Grand Theft Auto. GTA has been one of the best selling and most controversial games ever made Kids from all ages play it with many adults advocating for its ban. I have played and enjoyed this game myself over the years with friends and random people on the internet. Everyone that I have come across can always discern the difference between the game and real life. The game itself has a beginning, middle, and end. The main goal is to get to the end. Sure, you have to do some questionable things along the way but at the end of the day there has been no proof to link this game to the real world violence and crimes. A study was preformed and written on called Grand Theft Childhood. In this study/book it states that They found a correlation between boys playing Mature rated games and certain aggressive acts and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. New Bedford Harbor Pollution Essay New Bedford Harbor, the world s famous whaling seaport and current number one fishing port in America, continues to be plagued by toxic pollution, which has caused it to become one of the largest EPA Superfund cleanup sites. The harbor, an urban estuary, contains sediment that is highly contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The PCB containing industrial waste was introduced into the harbor by two manufacturing facilities from the 1940 s to the 1970 s when the EPA banned the production of PCBs. The result was contamination of six miles of the harbor bottom from the Acushnet River into Buzzards Bay; over 100,000 people currently reside within 3 miles of the contaminated area. PCBs do not break down easily in the environment and therefore pose a serious risk to human health and the environment. Thus, in 1982, the harbor was put onto the EPA s National Priorities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With extra funding, the EPA would be able to clean sediments down to the 1 ppm level of PCBs that the majority of similar waterway cleanups are subjected to, rather than the 50 ppm level they are planning on. This target level would allow the harbor to be safely fished for the first time in decades. Furthermore, we are demanding that the contaminated sediments are shipped off site to a federally approved landfill as they were in the initial plan, rather than disposed of hazardously on site in CDFs or CADs. Storing the contaminated soil on site would require that the soils be exposed to air while dewatering, which would allow the PCBs to become airborne and pose a serious health risk (4, 5). Our children and grandchildren deserve a clean harbor one where they can swim, play, and explore without fear. This vision for the future will be a reality if we negotiate with the EPA to amend their Record of Decision with more efficient cleanup ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Convinced of that, she sets off to find the secret of the elusive white heron and in order to find the heron, she had to climb to what was literally the top of the world for her, the top of the pine tree. The world from the top was different than the city and it was different from the woods at ground level. From the top her perspective about the world changed, it was vast and awesome, and she understood her place in it more than before. She understood it to mean more than to sacrifice her own self for the gifts this man had to offer that were tantalizing but incapitable with her personality and true self. • 37. A Brief Note On Sociological Theory Development Of African... Unit 9 DB 1 Appling Sociological Theory Development Introduction There have been many career criminals, but most of them have been Caucasian, so I decided to see if we had any African male or female career criminals, and despite the myth that there are no black serial killers, there are, but there are very few because, there are not a lot of agencies that keep the statistics of the number of African American serial killers compared with Caucasians. Based on information received from a phone call to Sgt. Thomas from the Augusta, Richmond County Sheriff department he explained to me that the FBI s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime does not maintain statistics for serial killers, and they do not have any type of national repository that can keep up let alone track the race or number of serial killers throughout the U.S. So, from my source of contact I am incline to believe that the FBIs has never been able to create a nonspecific profile for a serial killer nor a set physiognomies that someone can examine or look out for. Moreover, serial killers tend to span all racial groups. There are Asian, white, Hispanic, and African American serial killers. Basically, the racial diversification of serial killers usually mirrors that of the overall population. • 39. Dulce Et Decorum Est Effects Of War Wilfred Owen s anti war poem Dulce et Decorum Est graphically illustrates the negative experiences of war. From the death to lack of basic supplies Owen s poem relays the conditions of the thousands who fought in the front lines during World War I. The last four lines sums up the message Owen is attempting to make to the public you have been told it is sweet and proper to die for one s country , but it is not these are the atrocities faced by those fighting for you and they are not something that is a wanted experience. To fully experience the poem the reader must first understand two things: the historical events occurring at the time the poem was written, and the poem that the Latin words Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori that occur ... My conclusion would be that, insofar as the poem suggests or accommodates such a reading, it also can seem to broaden and deepen its grasp, even so far as to acknowledge covertly that the deepest, complicating iniquity of war is that its events can dispossess one of one s best self, dividing oneself from oneself and others and overwhelming one s most humane of responses toward pity and truth (Hughes 4). Owen is haunted by his man who was not able to get his gas mask on in time to avoid the harmful effects of the gas that was used in the war. By not being able to help the other soldier Owen feels as if he is somehow responsible because he did not help the man as he was plunging for Owen s mask. The last stanza describes the comrade s face as he lays in the wagon dying from the gas. This stanza also leaves the reader something to think about in regards to the cost of ...
