Who Were The Phoenicians
Who Were the Phoenicians?
Thanks to the Phoenicians, this essay can be written and read. They created the first known alphabet;
in which some of the letters are still used in today s alphabet. The Phoenicians were not known for
being the big and strong empire, but for their many modern inventions. Much of what is known about
the Phoenicians comes from the Greek historian Herodotus who documented everything. Scientists
today, still do not know a lot about them, but that does not hinder their importance to the world.
Phoenicia is located in present day Lebanon and stretched through present day Syria, and Israel . In
1100 B.C, the Phoenicians started out as a strip of land on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea. By
500 B.C, they had started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dye was so rare and expensive that only the rich could have it. Phoenicians were great traders and
traded all throughout the Mediterranean Sea. They traded anything and everything from things like
logs to wine to gold. Most of the economy s wealth come from trading.
The Phoenicians invented a lot of devices that are used today. A huge example of that, would be the
alphabet. Before the Phoenician invention of the alphabet, past civilizations used hieroglyphics to
document information and send messages. The reasoning behind the invention was the large amount
of trading the Phoenicians did. They needed a way to track the things coming and going out of their
port and possession. Some of the letters they created, are still used everyday in the modern alphabet
like the letters b and d for example.
The alphabet isn t the only invention that is still used everyday. Another one of their inventions is the
number Zero. Again, it was created to help merchants track their trading. The Phoenicians were the
first to create bireme; which were fast galleys. They had the best quality boats for their time. Though
the Phoenicians were not the first to create glass molding, but they changed the way it was done; a
technique that is still used today. Glass workers from Phoenicia developed

Cross Giblin Rosetta Stone Summary
I think that the author of this story, Cross Giblin, was very effective in explaining details in the
sequence of translating the Rosetta stone. In chapter one of the story he uses dates to tell the beginning
of the story. For example near the entrance to the long, high ceilinged room stand twomagnificent
granite statues of Pharaoh Amenophis III, who ruled Egypt about 1400 B.C. Farther on is a colossal
head of Pharaoh Ramesses II dating back to 1250 B.C. And beyond it, resting on a simple base, is a
slab of black basalt, a volcanic rock. This is very beneficial because it lets us know where the Rosetta
stone originated from. He also goes on to explain that no one knew how to read hieroglyphics at the
time of the discovery. He tells us that many tried but did not succeed. He also tells us that the Greeks
decided to add some of their own definitions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also uses dates in this chapter to set a timeline. He tells us on July 1, 1798, the city of Alexandria
was captured by Napoleon s army, also overrunning the Nile Delta. He also adds that on July 21
Napoleon entered the Egyptian capital. In this chapter he also tells us that the Greek part of the stone
had been translated. After the Greek passage had been translated, the scholars turned their attention to
the Egyptian writing on the slab. First they studied the hieroglyphs. Then they puzzled over the second
script. They had seen examples of it before on rolls of papyrus, the writing material the Egyptians
used instead of paper.Deciding that it was a simpler form of Egyptian writing, the scholars called it
demotic, meaning of the people. This chapter also tells us that the scholars got to keep the

Essay about Etiology of Developmental Dyslexia
Etiology of Developmental Dyslexia
The long disputed debate about the primary cause of dyslexia is still very much alive in the field of
psychology. Dyslexia is commonly characterized as a reading and writing impairment that affects
around 5% of the global population. The disorder has frequently been hypothesized to be the result of
various sensory malfunctions. For over a decade, studies have made major contributions to the
disorder s etiology; however, scientists are still unclear of its specific causal. Initially, dyslexia was
thought to be a reading disorder in children and adults (1). Later it was suggested to consist of both a
visual and writing component, therefore characterizing it as more of a learning disability which ...

While it was important to locate the specific cause of the disorders manifestations, it seemed that the
most effective results would be achieved by a collective approach. This kind of approach would
encompass ideas placed forth by both the cognitive and neurological theoretical ideas which currently
existed in the current research of the etiology of dyslexia.
The phonological deficit hypothesis of dyslexia is one of the most long standing explanations existing
in psychological research. The theory was coined by a man known as the father of dyslexia, Pringle
Morgan in 1896. Morgan viewed reading as a process that critically involved the segmentation of text
into graphemes (1). These graphemes served as the earliest precursors to phonemes (the small unit of
language), such that grapheme to phoneme conversion is equivalent to the whole sound of a word (1),
(5). The process is said to both require that a reader assemble and address a word s phonology.
Dyslexics are said to have phonological deficits which caused phonemic representation difficulties;
they would often fare worse than others when it came to mapping sounds into letters in the brain, and
with phonemic recall (1,5). Deficits in dyslexics ability to retain short term word memory and
problems with segmentation of words into phonemes (e.g., auditory discrimination), lent support to
these ideas (5).
A study by Petra Georgiewa and colleagues investigated the phonological

The Superhuman Registration Act
Captain America, Iron Man, Spider Man, and The Fantastic Four. All of these superhumans are now,
by law, required to register under the government, by order of The Superhuman Registration Act
(SHRA); and therefore, are exposing their identities and falling under control of the government.
However, the SHRA, written and executed as it was, is in grave need of revision and refinement.
Improvement can be made by adding policies such as not forcing superhumans to reveal their
identities to the public, an option to choose between registration or retirement, and the construction of
a private housing community for those who are registered, as well as their loved ones. When
registering for the SHRA, superhumans will not be compelled into revealing

Is Equality for All a Realistic and Desirable Aim Within...
Equality exists in many contexts. It can exist in the political level; individuals have the same rights
under the law. It can exist in a social level, between categories of people, for example gender, or race.
It can even exist on an individual level, as to how each person is treated. Equality cannot be confined
to simply equal opportunities for all; for an equal and fair process is still equality. An equal and fair
result is also equality. At each of the different level, equality shifts from being realistic or being
desirable, sometimes both, or sometimes neither.
Modern societies often take for granted that social quality is desirable. Democratic values mean
people from all backgrounds should be given an equal say to affect decisions in ... Show more content

Hence one could argue that a certain degree of equality has been reached.
The same case can be made for racial tolerance. In the 19th Century wherein America was rife with
racial discrimination against the Afro Americans, there was strong opposition to even a mere
suggestion of equality between ‘blacks and ‘whites . In modern American, one can hardly see any
signs of the touchy issue that tore the nation into two in the past. In both these cases, education over a
long period of time is a clear factor; people gradually accept change. From known examples like Sri
Lanka and Rwanda, where ethnic conflict is rampant, it is not realistic to expect change through
imposing equality onto people through state policies. However, what the previous two examples have
shown is that too a certain degree it is realistic to aim for equality, given amply time to change the
mindsets of the people. How long would have to depend on the extent some mentalities are rooted in
people.
But just how equal are those two examples. In a sense they too do not reflect equality properly. For
example, there is still a slight degree, not of discrimination, but of expectations accorded to the
genders. In some companies, they prefer men because women have to be allowed to take paid
maternity leave, or least they might choose to leave the company in order to take care of children,

Demographic Location Of The Meeting At 1311 W. Murray,...
Demographic Location The first meeting that I attended was an Alcohol Anonymous. The occasion of
this meeting was Wednesday Sobriety Celebration that took place at 8 pm at 1311 W. Murray, Visalia
Alano Club. Most of the members that showed up to this meeting were Caucasian with few minorities.
The gender was mix and it seemed like the number of the males and females were about the same.
Brief Description Initially when I had arrived, I was the first person to walk in, so I had some time to
talk to the person in charge. At the beginning of the meeting I got a chance to speak with the wife of a
guest speaker and she explained to me how the meeting was going to go. They first read two chapters
from a book that was used in this program and everyone was required to have. Then, they had their
guess speaker talk about their experience and how it was for him to go through the process which kept
him sober for 30 years. After he was done talking, for the rest of the hour people were called on to
come up and share their story. However they were asked to share a small part of their story so
everyone could get a chance to talk a little and have the opportunity to feel heard. It was interesting
how every story was the so different yet everyone could connect to one another. Demographic
Location The second meeting that I attended was an Alcohol Anonymous. The occasion of this
meeting was Breath of Fresh Air that took place at 7:30 pm on Thursday at 7046 Pershing Ct.

Imagine that you re sitting around the kitchen table with your family. Raymond is just starting to learn
his colors, but nothing seems to be working to make them stick. You pull out the collection of paints,
markers and crayons and Raymond starts to color, naming each one as he picks it up out of the boxes
filled with supplies. Not only has he learned basic colors such as red, orange, and yellow, but he s
gone above and beyond and learned colors like silver and gold. If you re like to have things looking

While this may be true, if you lay old newspaper or an old tablecloth over the table, you don t need to

children, the paint can dry and you don t have to worry about smudging. If you watch your children

Why Are Historically Black Colleges Wrong
It is getting old hearing about what historically black colleges do wrong. Continuously hearing about
what historically black colleges cannot do and what predominantly white institutions can. Hearing the
phrase HBCU only to be followed by a negative comment. Mainly black colleges are needed for
African Americans who were unaccepted for their race or undereducated about their history, but with
such an adverse light on historically black colleges, it makes you think. Why are HBCU s so necessary
to save for survival and for the future?
African men and women deserve to get an education just as much as anybody and if a student wants to
go to a school where there is more than just 10 percent of the school s student class then they should
be able.

The Book Thief Isolation Analysis
Isolation Worldwide
Everyone experiences isolation in their life but may not notice it. Isolation is the act of being alone or
apart from others. Because Max Vandenburg a Jew in hiding in the Book Thief, Anne Frank also a Jew
in hiding wrote The Diary Of A Young Girl: The Definitive Edition, and Jaycee Dugard a girl
abducted at a young age kept in a tent captive, they all experienced isolation in similar and different
ways.
First, Max Vandenburg is a fictional character in The Book Thief, he is a Jew in hiding and shows
isolation during World War II. Max was hidden in the basement of 33 Himmel Street owned by the
married couple Rosa and Hans Hubermann who had a foster child named Liesel. He was kept down
there for 22 months, unable to see the outside world. When the warning bells went off for upcoming
bombs soon to hit, the rest of the household left to seek shelter but Max had to stay to not be seen, he
was left in isolation by himself like always. He could not help but to go upstairs and see the sky since
it has been so long. It states When everything was quiet, I went up to the corridor and the curtain in
the living room was open just a crack...I could see outside. I watched, only for a few seconds (Zusak
377 378). He soon realizes how different and bright the outside world is compared to his small dark
isolated area.
Next, Anne Frank also an isolated jew in hiding wrote The Diary Of A Young Girl: The Definitive
Edition, during the World War II time period. Anne is like Max because she is isolated and is unable to
see the outdoors. She finds that nature is a blessing to see and that we should not take seeing it for
granted. It is a blessing that we get to wake up daily to the outdoors while back during the holocaust
the Jews in hiding at others homes are unable to see outside or rarely get to see outside on rare
occasions. In the excerpt it states, I struggle to keep my eyes open until eleven thirty so I could get a
good look at the moon, all on my own for once. Alas, my sacrifice was vain since there was too much
glare and I could not risk opening a window (Frank 33 314). This shows that they rarely have the
opportunity and have to risk their life if they want to see outside that badly. Like Max,

The Career As An Educator
A career as an educator is a highly rewarding and equally challenging position, a teacher is not only
responsible for the academic success of their pupils but the social development as well, this is
especially true as a second language teacher. It is through my own experience as a student and a
prospective teacher that I ve developed my own beliefs and philosophy about teaching. I believe that
there are certain things that can t be compromised or short sold for example, classroom environment
and the needs of the learner. There does however, need to be a certain level of flexibility both with the
teacher and the techniques and methodologies employed. There are many attributes that make an
effective teacher, some include; creativity, compassion, and leadership. These qualities coupled with
knowledge of the material and language learning experience can fortify learning for the students.
Through the course of this semester many approaches and techniques have been discussed, elaboration
on their benefits and uses and how to utilize them best in a language learning setting have been
highlighted. Through the presentation of all the information it seems that no single approach or
technique can satisfy the needs of every learner, and that the most pertinent message to teachers is to
know what the needs of your students are individually, and cater lessons for those needs using a
variety of techniques. That being said I will discuss some approaches and techniques that I found the

Gary Soto Happiness
I mention it because, in this story we can find my three main points that I am going to talk about.
Happiness is an important part to be a successful family, because if we are not happy in our home,
with our family, then we will have a hard time to find happiness in our daily life as well. In Gary Soto
s story, when the kid is trying to be the perfect family, as shown in the Tv shows, with eating dinner
and speaking politely to each other. His mother denied his idea really quick so as you read, he started
working. I think he was completely wrong, and he realized that as well after a while. We do not need
to be like other perfect families to be able to be happy. It does not matter if we are wearing a nice suit,
or a bathing suit to the dinner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These three main factors are dependent on each other, and we are missing one part of them, we will
find a hard time to be a successful family. The parallels I can draw from these points are, if we are
close to each other, we will trust and support each other, and when we start to support each other to
overcome the obstacles in life, we will be happier together as a family. That was just one example of
many how they are dependent on each other. Something to notice, is this is my perspective from what
a successful family is, for me, a successful family is not how much income the family have. However,
for me it is about how the family is still together and cannot be separated no matter the obstacles are.
In Garo Soto s story, the kid is just nine years old so he is not knowledgeable about how the real world
works, so when he said: I tried to convince them that if we improved the way we looked we might get
along better in life (30), he was not really knowledgeable about that it did not matter how they looked
or how they behave, as long as they have each other, they will be fine. Even though he always came
up with ideas that his mother rejected, she never stopped him to work, and she always showed him her
support to try maintain a familiar

Unappropriate Tv Shows for Children
Unappropriate Television Shows Abstract Children are being influenced by television shows on a
daily basis. Some children are watching inappropriate television shows such as SpongeBob, Fish
Hooks, Family Guy, South Park, Ed, Edd, Eddy, Scooby Doo, Boondocks and etc. These shows can
affect children as they grow up in many ways such as using profanity, violent and aggressive behavior,
poor school performance and watch too much television may cause a slight obesity. There are many
educational television shows that are best for child to watch such as Barney, Blue s Clue, Dora the
Explorer and etc. Parent should also limit the amount of time children spend watching television.

How is there such a big impact on them just because of watching television? Television can affect
learning and school performance if it interferes with the time kids need for activities crucial to healthy
mental and physical development. Some shows (SpongeBob) teaches that it is fine to commit an
inappropriate action because there will not be a punishment and kids feel that if they do the same thing
as their favorite character from the program who committed the crime they will be a hero. Researchers
have identified three potential responses to media violence in children: increase fear, desensitization to
real life violence, and increase aggressive behavior. It may desensitve kids so much they think it is
okay and no big deal for somebody to be hit or to hit someone in the head with a hammer. Kids who
view violent acts are more likely to show aggressive behavior, but also fear that the world is scary and
that everyday something bad will happen. Scary looking things like grotesque monsters especially
frighten children aged two to seven. Telling them that the images aren t real does not help because
kids under age eight can t always tell the difference between fantasy and reality (Television and
Children). When watching a television shows usually every episode has a bad situation or a lot of
drama in it so kids will start to have that mind frame that things will happen to them just like on the
show. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids under

Examples Of Perfective Aspect
1. Introduction
1.1 What is Aspect? Aspect refers to how an event or action is to be viewed with respect to time, rather
than to its actual location in time. We can illustrate this using the following examples:
[1] Venkat fell in love on his eighteenth birthday
[2] Venkat has fallen in love
[3] Venkat is falling in love
In [1], the verb fell tells us that Venkat fell in love in the past, and specifically on his eighteenth
birthday. This is a simple past tense verb.
In [2] also, the action took place in the past, but it is implied that it took place quite recently.
Furthermore, it is implied that is still relevant at the time of speaking Venkat has fallen in love, and
that s why he s behaving the way he is. It is worth noting that we cannot say *Venkat has fallen in love

auxiliary itself is known as the Perfective Auxiliary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Isaac s Storm Book Review
Isaac s Storm, is a tale of self confidence. This Hurricane in 1900 in Galveston was the worst and
deadliest hurricane this country has ever seen. About 6,000 people lost their lives and among those
who died was Isaac Cline s wife. I can tell how guilty he must have felt and how horrific this time was
for Cline, especially because he thought a massive storm could never devastate his amazing city. The
horrific events of what happened in Galveston is only partially told in this book. Erik Larson s use of
Cline s own letters and reports show Cline s own self confidence or pride and falsifies facts that Cline

Tthe Improtance of Note Taking
Note taking
Taking note is one of the best ways to prepare for exam. Reading different books, collecting
information from other sources and merging all the notes together helps to gives a clear image and
deeper understanding on specific topic. Using an outline format I try to get as much information as i
can in a piece of paper and record the lecture at the same time as the tutor will not wait for the student
to write notes down. Listening to the recorder again and again helps to reorganize my notes as well as
avoid confusion. Recall the new terms mentioned by the teacher while teaching in lesson as they
might be very important for the exam. While writing notes, I try to summarize each section on my

Persuasive Essay On Happiness
We live in America, a country that is rather prosperous in comparison to many other countries in the
world. In order to get to where this country is today wars were started, people enslaved, and countries
exploited. The greater majority s happiness was derived from another humans suffering. This has
occurred throughout the majority of human history and continues into today s society. While we may
see this as the wrong way to live we don t mind sustaining our prosperity. Just as Jesus Christ suffered
for the sake of humanity s sins, much of what gives us happiness unmistakably generates affliction
around the globe. Just as every action has an equal or opposite reaction, every choice has a
repercussion whether we know it or not. Our world is reminiscent of a yin yang symbol, the white side
representing our happiness and the black side the pain and suffering that got us there. By choosing our
advantage over what is right, staying ignorant, and entanglement in consumerism our happiness is the
offspring of despair somewhere in the world. We are all guilty of encountering happiness that was in
some way the byproduct of someone s suffering. Whether we realize it or not does not mean we are
not guilty of the same sin. For example, I went to a job interview a few months ago and there were
two other gentlemen that were far more qualified than me interviewing as well. We all needed and
wanted the job equally although the job was granted to me because I knew a general manager at the
company. I chose success in exchange for the other gentlemen suffering a declined job offer. A lot of
the time we don t even realize the suffering that our decisions cause or that suffering even occurred.
America has been at war for nearly half of its existence to protect our rights and liberty. While we are
safe and happy within our own borders both our soldiers and the country we are fighting are suffering
immensely. For many years America endorsed slavery as free labor to create a happier society for
white people. In these examples, many people are suffering for the sake of the America or particular
race s happiness. While much of this is uncontrollable for the majority we still have to face the facts
that our happiness

college choice is a difficult decision for a student and his or her family. The final decision needs to be

Validity of Eyewitness Testimony
Validity of Eyewitness Testimony Validity of Eyewitness Testimony In today s court system one of the
strongest pieces of evidence, or that most commonly accepted as fact by a jury, is eyewitness
testimony. When correct, eyewitness accounts can aid in the conviction of many guilty people.
However when it is incorrect, eyewitness testimony can do severe damage. Researchers have found
that more innocent citizens are wrongfully tried and convicted on the basis of eyewitness evidence in
Great Britain and North America than by any other factor within the legal system (Smith, Stinson,
Prosser, 2004, p. 146). Even with the recent background of cases being overturned on the basis of
DNA evidence many years after conviction, eyewitness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies on the weapon focus effect usually included a weapon s presence or absence during the crime
as the independent variable and the individual s later attempt to identify the perpetrator in a lineup as
the dependent measure (Steblay, 1992). The researchers hypothesized that correct identifications will
be greater in the condition in which the weapon is absent. Steblay (1992) conducted a meta analytic
review of the weapon focus effect which included 19 sets of data. The results show that the data
supported the hypothesized weapon focus effect. Therefore, it is important to recognize that weapon
absence or presence is only one of many variables that investigators recognize as influential in lineup
identification accuracy (Steblay, 1992, p.420). Eyewitness testimony can be greatly affected by this
phenomenon. If judges and jurors do not consider a weapons effect on eyewitness performance they
would be ignoring relevant information. Cross Race Facial Identifications Another factor that can
affect the validity of eyewitness testimony is identification in cross race situations. It has been found
that people are better at recognizing faces of persons of their own race than a different race (Loftus,
1979). When the eyewitness is of a different race than the suspect, accuracy rates are lower (Smith,
Stinson, Prosser, 2004). One possible

Conversion Rate Optimization Is A Mandatory Procedure For...
Conversion rate optimization is a mandatory procedure for companies that aim to be the best player in
their industry and stand out from the crowded eCommerce market. Even though we first heard of
conversion rate optimization back in 2007, it s benefits only became popular in the last three years. It s
a digital marketing trend that will certainly be on the what s hot? list for the next year: early adaptors
will be ahead of their competitors, building their reputation as leaders and as a top of mind choice,
while those who lag behind will lose the chance to innovate their business.

It s like taking medication to improve your health, but you have no idea what s causing the illness.
Every CRO action you do should have a precise goal and be integrated into the business plan.
Start with the end in mind: what s the purpose of this eCommerce business? What are my goals? How
can I reach these goals? Once you have the answer to these question, you can drive up a marketing
plan and include in it the conversion rate optimization plan.
Thus, for next year s resolution, take a step back and analyze the current state of your business.
Rectify your approach as you work to align all your goals, and build a proper conversion rate

Use weather segmentation
Segmentation helps marketers to discover the most converting type of traffic and, also, to display the
right message, at the right time, to the right audience. Having in mind the purpose of building a
successful company, entrepreneurs and marketers must identity the 20% traffic segments that bring
80% of results.
Usually, websites use segmentation data points such as: location (city, region, country), new vs.
returning visitors, referring URL, previous conversion activity, cookies, purchase history. Yet, one
efficient segmentation criterion is missed by eCommerce websites: weather segmentation.
With this type of segmentation, you can

Should Australia Have The Right To An Adequate Standard Of...
Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights embodies the right to an adequate standard
of living. Although this doctrine was adopted in 1948, there is a significant amount of work to be done
worldwide. Moreover, the absence of a right to housing would compromise many other basic rights
including the right to family life and privacy, freedom of movement, assembly and association, and
the right to health.
The Commonwealth of Australia believes that everyone has the right to an adequate standard of living,
including adequate food, water, and housing. Australia acknowledges adequate housing as an essential
for human survival as supported in documents such as Australia s National Human Rights Action Plan.
Human rights provides us with a language and a framework that can help shift the debate from one of
welfare and pity to one of rights and empowerment. (Graeme Innes, former Human Rights

Proper Grooming A Dog
Proper dog grooming requires the proper knowledge, preparation, and equipment. It is extremely
important to groom your dog as frequently as is recommended. Proper grooming is important for dogs
for most of the same reasons that it is important for people. When your dog is clean and trimmed it
feels happy, satisfied, and self confident. Besides that, proper grooming will keep your dog healthy.
Dirty dogs will tend to become infested with harmful, parasitic insects like fleas and ticks. Your dog
will be less healthy and happy if you fail grooming at the proper frequency.
Proper knowledge of dog grooming entails your understanding of your particular breed of dog and the
grooming protocol required. There are different procedures that must be followed if the dog has short
hair as opposed to long hair. There are different requirements depending on the age of your animal.

Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof Essay
Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof
Doris Lessing s A Woman on a Roof allows us to understand how some men view woman: as mere
objects for display and possession. Lessing shows how each of the male characters reacts and deals
with rejection from a woman sunbathing on a nearby rooftop. We discover how three men s
preoccupation with sex keeps them unaware of how their advances may be unwanted and ignorant of
their action s possible consequences.
All three men share the desire to get this woman s attention. Working on a rooftop of a block of flats
in the hot, hot, sun, these men seek a diversion from the relentless heat. They whistle, yell, and wave
at a near naked woman on a rooftop nearby, but the woman pays no mind ... Show more content on

They report her movements to one another. Stanley likens her presence on her roof to a crime gotten
away with. He states that he would never let his wife do what she is doing (Lessing 857). Acting as
judge and jury, all three men seem to deny her the right to be on her roof doing as she pleases.
The woman acts as if she has managed to escape the mindless need to entertain men (Allen 200). The
woman on the roof has not offered one invitation for comment or attention, yet the men feel she has.
By being caught by their eyes was invitation enough, yet the woman ignores the men no matter what
(Lessing 858). She remains the symbol of a new age woman who disdains harassment from men.
Tom believes he is this woman s hero. Throughout the story he sees himself protecting her from
Stanley s domination (Lessing 858). He feels he is not her harasser and that she must be aware of his
love for her. His dreams of her have convinced him that meeting this woman is in his destiny. He
doesn t interpret her indifference as rejection as Stanley does and has no idea how he will suffer for it
later. Far gone into his fantasy, Tom imagines the nearby crane aiding his heroic rescue of her.
Stanley shows a hatred for this woman s remote coolness (Lessing 858). An attitude not yet displayed

Descriptive Essay On A House In Childhood
Driving to Long Prairie, on the right side of the road, up a hill with a long, paved driveway will be a
house to the left. This house is two stories with a basement. The first time I saw it, the house had a
worn out, light tan vinyl siding with faded, dark red shutters from years of Minnesota weather. At the
end of the driveway was a garage that resembled the houses color. To the right of the driveway was a
large stone wall that was overrun with wild grape vines. In the middle of the wall was a stairway that
leads to an old, rundown playhouse. Also, there was a large, gray brick shed further away. Beyond the
house are the woods, littered with pine needles from the rows of trees my grandpa planted when he
moved there. The whole area is surrounded by the overpowering smell of pine, and the silence the
woods carries; it brings a calming, peaceful sensation to me. As the years have gone on, the house and
I have aged, grown, and changed together. Walking up the cracked cement steps, I enter the house
through a wood lacquer door. The smell that first hits my nose is the cigarette smoke from Grandpa.
Once inside, to my right, is the dining room that is typically filled with food and laughter. During the
holidays we gather there and fill our bellies with the food that we have all brought, and stuff ourselves
with the sweets that grandma has baked. To the left as I enter the door is the kitchen which is always
warm from the oven being used constantly with cooks bustling about like bees. If a turkey or ham was
not in the oven, there are cookies or brownies or my personal favorite, rhubarb pie. I would salivate
anticipating the sweet, tart taste to hit my lips, and I would devour it with greed. Straight ahead of the
entrance is the basement door. The basement steps are simply the wood floor beams that were never
completed. The basement was their storage space and where their appliances were such as their water
heater, which gave off a soft hum. The basement had the faint smell of vinegar because my
grandparents liked to pickle, so they had shelves in the basement cluttered with jars of various things
that they pickled. Going back up the stairs and through the kitchen is the carpeted living room. The far
side of the room

His death further affected her and two years later, she committed suicide herself with an overdose of

Teasdale s success as a lyrical poet depended on her talent to convert her struggle of unifying
incompatible desires into work that her audience could relate to. Her use of metaphors, similes, and
personification enabled her to generalize her feelings so that her words would not be too specific to
her situation. Braithwaite claims, Her poems are brief, alluring and simple in expression . . . Love is
her great theme. In her poem, Like Barley Bending, Teasdale compares her heartache to the annual
crop: Like barley bending And rising again, So would I, unbroken, Rise from pain; (5 8).
The audience is able to compare Teasdale frailty to the barley and relate to her weakness. They are
also able to relate to Teasdale s perseverance to rise from pain. Bogan describes Teasdale s use of
figurative language, Its effects are based upon a true subtle and naïve ear, and upon intensity rather
than complexity of emotion. She succeeds in simplifying the complexity of her emotions but still
keeping the intensity of her longing, which the audience can relate to. Teasdale s four stanza poem,
New Love and Old characterizes love as a ghost walking through the night. She personifies the things

The Sheep Reflection
Explanation: Jesus continued speaking to the people and explained that while only thieves climb over
the wall of the sheepfold, the shepherd enters through the door. And when he calls his own sheep by
name and leads them out, they follow him because they know his voice. But they would not follow a
stranger because they would not know his voice. But the people did not understand what he meant by
this parable, so Jesus continued, saying that he was the Door of the sheep. Thieves came before, but
the sheep did not know their voice and did not follow them. Those thieves came to steal and kill and
destroy, but Jesus, the Door, came to bring salvation and abundant life. Jesus continued, saying that he
was the Good Shepherd and gave his life for his sheep. But the hired servant who does not own the
sheep or care for the sheep leaves when the wolf comes. And the wolf catches the sheep and scatters
them. But the Good Shepherd knows his sheep and his sheep know him. And as he knew the Father, so
the Father knew him. And he has other sheep of other folds that he will bring into one fold, and he will
lay down his life for them. And the Father loves him because he lays down his life of himself, no one
taking it from him. He has the power to lay it down and to take it again. And that was the
commandment he had received from his Father. Then the Jews were again divided because of him,
some accusing him of demon possession, and others arguing that a devil could not open the eyes of the
blind, as Jesus had so recently done.
Application: In this passage, Jesus is explaining to the people about the shepherd, the sheepfold, and
the sheep. This is considered to be the only parable in the book of John, and perhaps it does not even
qualify as a parable at all. Either way, it is a beautiful, encouraging picture of the way that Jesus cares
for us, his sheep, even to the point of laying down his life for us. Jesus is our Shepherd, he leads us
and guides us and cares for us. Sheep are very stupid creatures and need a lot of tending; so we are
wayward humans needing much care and watching. But Christ is not only the shepherd; he is the door
itself. We enter into life and safety through him. It is not through as through something that

Rearing Strategies
When studying parental techniques one will find one large gray area. Although rearing strategies are
not the solely responsible for altered behavior, psychologists know that the way a child is brought up
has a deep and indelible impact on that child s life. During formative years the brain is exceedingly
sensitive to outside stimulus and alteration can occur at the drop of a hat. The mantle of parenthood is
not to be taken lightly as ineffective methodology can contribute significantly to a child s behavioral
outcome. Children often exhibit signs of having incompetent parents by acting out and misbehaving in
a public setting. Whether it be school, church, or any other common environment, children who have

Sufficient evidence, including findings reported by the state of Michigan s Department of Education,
supports the idea that parental involvement in a child s education vastly improves academic
achievement (Mokeyane). In a neglectful environment a child spends a majority of their time alone
making it hard for them to undergo learning experiences and engage their brain in such a way that
triggers thinking and progress. The social aspect can make it difficult for the child to formulate
relationships with classmates and teachers (Richards Gustafson). Damaged social skills can negatively
impact nearly every aspect of an adolescent s life as they move to the future making it difficult to
obtain help from teachers, meeting a significant other, and even getting a job. The impact parents have
on their children goes further than face value. Issues such as misbehaving and delinquency can be
caused by impudent parents. If one is not ready to rear a child they not only risk their own mental
health but also leave the success and livelihood of their you hanging in the balance. When it comes to
it, parenthood has everything to do with quality, whether it be strict or lenient parenting styles, raising

Analysis Of The Haunted Mesa
This book, The Haunted Mesa, was written by author Louis L Amour, under the publishing company
Bantam Books. It was published in New York in 1987 and the story of the book takes place around
this time as well. The significance of the title is to hint at the central idea of the story, which revolves
around a mesa in the deserts of southern Utah. The place is very odd, having bizarre occurrences
described by both the main character and another character in the story. These occurrences advance
the plot astronomically. Not only this, the setting is what pulls the reader into the book, intriguing and
making the reader curious for more. This book has three main characters, Mike Raglan, Erik Hokart,
and a strange young woman named Kawasi. Mike Raglan is a keenly intelligent person, as well as
determined, which is what drives the plot onward. Erik Hokart is also very intelligent, but also
wealthy, which enables him to inadvertently start the conflict of the story. The young woman Kawasi
is a strange woman with brown skin and a heavy accent. She is a very odd addition to the story as she
is alien to the world in Utah. Of the three characters, Erik Hokart has the largest influence on the plot,
being that he is the reason there is a conflict. In addition, the main character, Mike Raglan, learns a
tremendous amount from his experiences in this book as he tries to remedy the conflict. He learns
about alternate dimensions and worlds and new people from these worlds. Overall, as he learns

The Culture Of North Korea
Culture of North Korea A particular society that has its own beliefs and ways of life define Culture.
Major characteristics that define culture are Learned Behavior, Abstract, Products of Behavior,
Attitudes, and Values Knowledge. We may define culture as the total of human achievements or the
way of life of the people in a certain geographical area. The Peoples Republic of North Korea is a
great example of this definition. The Democratic People s Republic of Korea is a country in East Asia
located in the Northern part of the Korean Peninsula. North Korea is known for its infamous
Communist beliefs and portrayed bully mentality type of government. However this great nation has
way more history and authenticity as a culture that helped shape the world s history.
Terrain
The Democratic People s Republic of Korea is a mountainous region with a very cold climate.
However, it does experience all four seasons. The western coastal plain surrounding the capital
Pyongyang is the largest area of flat terrain. The eastern region is mainly mountainous having rivers,
valleys, and high plateaus scattered throughout. Paektu sam is the highest elevation located in North
Korea. North Korea also shares a land border with China to the north, along the border runs the

The Comic Stumptown By Greg Rucka And Matthew Southworth...
The comic Stumptown by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth and the retro audio podcast Nick
Carter: Master Detective starring Lon Clack portray the different roles of women in detective fiction.
Nick Carter was on the radio from 1943 to 1955, and represents more traditional roles for gender.
Over the 125 episodes, the radio show followed detective Nick Carter and his female assistant, Patsy
on different crime scene investigations. Carter was also able to solve seemingly impossible crimes by
looking at unique angles. Stumptown was published in 2011. It represents a more modern view on
gender roles in detecting. In this comic, Dex Parios, a private investigator, is hired to find someone s
granddaughter. She encounters many difficulties while investigating and attempting to find the
missing girl. In the end, the plot ends up being a lot more complicated than initially presented. In this
essay, I am going to look at how the role of gender in detective fiction has evolved over time.
Although Nick Carter had both books and a movie about him, the most well known installment of his
story was the radio show. Nick Carter: Master Detective was produced in the 1940s and 50s, which
means it reflects a traditional view of gender roles in detecting, as well as in the world, that was
common of this time period. The patriarchal society dictates that men are the providers for the family

  • 2. Who Were The Phoenicians Who Were the Phoenicians? Thanks to the Phoenicians, this essay can be written and read. They created the first known alphabet; in which some of the letters are still used in today s alphabet. The Phoenicians were not known for being the big and strong empire, but for their many modern inventions. Much of what is known about the Phoenicians comes from the Greek historian Herodotus who documented everything. Scientists today, still do not know a lot about them, but that does not hinder their importance to the world. Phoenicia is located in present day Lebanon and stretched through present day Syria, and Israel . In 1100 B.C, the Phoenicians started out as a strip of land on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea. By 500 B.C, they had started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dye was so rare and expensive that only the rich could have it. Phoenicians were great traders and traded all throughout the Mediterranean Sea. They traded anything and everything from things like logs to wine to gold. Most of the economy s wealth come from trading. The Phoenicians invented a lot of devices that are used today. A huge example of that, would be the alphabet. Before the Phoenician invention of the alphabet, past civilizations used hieroglyphics to document information and send messages. The reasoning behind the invention was the large amount of trading the Phoenicians did. They needed a way to track the things coming and going out of their port and possession. Some of the letters they created, are still used everyday in the modern alphabet like the letters b and d for example. The alphabet isn t the only invention that is still used everyday. Another one of their inventions is the number Zero. Again, it was created to help merchants track their trading. The Phoenicians were the first to create bireme; which were fast galleys. They had the best quality boats for their time. Though the Phoenicians were not the first to create glass molding, but they changed the way it was done; a technique that is still used today. • 3. Cross Giblin Rosetta Stone Summary I think that the author of this story, Cross Giblin, was very effective in explaining details in the sequence of translating the Rosetta stone. In chapter one of the story he uses dates to tell the beginning of the story. For example near the entrance to the long, high ceilinged room stand twomagnificent granite statues of Pharaoh Amenophis III, who ruled Egypt about 1400 B.C. Farther on is a colossal head of Pharaoh Ramesses II dating back to 1250 B.C. And beyond it, resting on a simple base, is a slab of black basalt, a volcanic rock. This is very beneficial because it lets us know where the Rosetta stone originated from. He also goes on to explain that no one knew how to read hieroglyphics at the time of the discovery. He tells us that many tried but did not succeed. He also tells us that the Greeks decided to add some of their own definitions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also uses dates in this chapter to set a timeline. He tells us on July 1, 1798, the city of Alexandria was captured by Napoleon s army, also overrunning the Nile Delta. He also adds that on July 21 Napoleon entered the Egyptian capital. In this chapter he also tells us that the Greek part of the stone had been translated. After the Greek passage had been translated, the scholars turned their attention to the Egyptian writing on the slab. First they studied the hieroglyphs. Then they puzzled over the second script. They had seen examples of it before on rolls of papyrus, the writing material the Egyptians used instead of paper.Deciding that it was a simpler form of Egyptian writing, the scholars called it demotic, meaning of the people. This chapter also tells us that the scholars got to keep the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about Etiology of Developmental Dyslexia Etiology of Developmental Dyslexia The long disputed debate about the primary cause of dyslexia is still very much alive in the field of psychology. Dyslexia is commonly characterized as a reading and writing impairment that affects around 5% of the global population. The disorder has frequently been hypothesized to be the result of various sensory malfunctions. For over a decade, studies have made major contributions to the disorder s etiology; however, scientists are still unclear of its specific causal. Initially, dyslexia was thought to be a reading disorder in children and adults (1). Later it was suggested to consist of both a visual and writing component, therefore characterizing it as more of a learning disability which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it was important to locate the specific cause of the disorders manifestations, it seemed that the most effective results would be achieved by a collective approach. This kind of approach would encompass ideas placed forth by both the cognitive and neurological theoretical ideas which currently existed in the current research of the etiology of dyslexia. The phonological deficit hypothesis of dyslexia is one of the most long standing explanations existing in psychological research. The theory was coined by a man known as the father of dyslexia, Pringle Morgan in 1896. Morgan viewed reading as a process that critically involved the segmentation of text into graphemes (1). These graphemes served as the earliest precursors to phonemes (the small unit of language), such that grapheme to phoneme conversion is equivalent to the whole sound of a word (1), (5). The process is said to both require that a reader assemble and address a word s phonology. Dyslexics are said to have phonological deficits which caused phonemic representation difficulties; they would often fare worse than others when it came to mapping sounds into letters in the brain, and with phonemic recall (1,5). Deficits in dyslexics ability to retain short term word memory and problems with segmentation of words into phonemes (e.g., auditory discrimination), lent support to these ideas (5). A study by Petra Georgiewa and colleagues investigated the phonological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Superhuman Registration Act Captain America, Iron Man, Spider Man, and The Fantastic Four. All of these superhumans are now, by law, required to register under the government, by order of The Superhuman Registration Act (SHRA); and therefore, are exposing their identities and falling under control of the government. However, the SHRA, written and executed as it was, is in grave need of revision and refinement. Improvement can be made by adding policies such as not forcing superhumans to reveal their identities to the public, an option to choose between registration or retirement, and the construction of a private housing community for those who are registered, as well as their loved ones. It can exist in a social level, between categories of people, for example gender, or race. It can even exist on an individual level, as to how each person is treated. Equality cannot be confined to simply equal opportunities for all; for an equal and fair process is still equality. An equal and fair result is also equality. At each of the different level, equality shifts from being realistic or being desirable, sometimes both, or sometimes neither. Modern societies often take for granted that social quality is desirable. Democratic values mean people from all backgrounds should be given an equal say to affect decisions in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence one could argue that a certain degree of equality has been reached. The same case can be made for racial tolerance. In the 19th Century wherein America was rife with racial discrimination against the Afro Americans, there was strong opposition to even a mere suggestion of equality between ‘blacks and ‘whites . In modern American, one can hardly see any signs of the touchy issue that tore the nation into two in the past. In both these cases, education over a long period of time is a clear factor; people gradually accept change. From known examples like Sri Lanka and Rwanda, where ethnic conflict is rampant, it is not realistic to expect change through imposing equality onto people through state policies. However, what the previous two examples have shown is that too a certain degree it is realistic to aim for equality, given amply time to change the mindsets of the people. How long would have to depend on the extent some mentalities are rooted in people. But just how equal are those two examples. In a sense they too do not reflect equality properly. For example, there is still a slight degree, not of discrimination, but of expectations accorded to the genders. In some companies, they prefer men because women have to be allowed to take paid maternity leave, or least they might choose to leave the company in order to take care of children, ... • 12. The Book Thief Isolation Analysis Isolation Worldwide Everyone experiences isolation in their life but may not notice it. Isolation is the act of being alone or apart from others. Because Max Vandenburg a Jew in hiding in the Book Thief, Anne Frank also a Jew in hiding wrote The Diary Of A Young Girl: The Definitive Edition, and Jaycee Dugard a girl abducted at a young age kept in a tent captive, they all experienced isolation in similar and different ways. First, Max Vandenburg is a fictional character in The Book Thief, he is a Jew in hiding and shows isolation during World War II. Max was hidden in the basement of 33 Himmel Street owned by the married couple Rosa and Hans Hubermann who had a foster child named Liesel. He was kept down there for 22 months, unable to see the outside world. When the warning bells went off for upcoming bombs soon to hit, the rest of the household left to seek shelter but Max had to stay to not be seen, he was left in isolation by himself like always. He could not help but to go upstairs and see the sky since it has been so long. It states When everything was quiet, I went up to the corridor and the curtain in the living room was open just a crack...I could see outside. I watched, only for a few seconds (Zusak 377 378). He soon realizes how different and bright the outside world is compared to his small dark isolated area. Next, Anne Frank also an isolated jew in hiding wrote The Diary Of A Young Girl: The Definitive Edition, during the World War II time period. Anne is like Max because she is isolated and is unable to see the outdoors. She finds that nature is a blessing to see and that we should not take seeing it for granted. It is a blessing that we get to wake up daily to the outdoors while back during the holocaust the Jews in hiding at others homes are unable to see outside or rarely get to see outside on rare occasions. In the excerpt it states, I struggle to keep my eyes open until eleven thirty so I could get a good look at the moon, all on my own for once. Happiness is an important part to be a successful family, because if we are not happy in our home, with our family, then we will have a hard time to find happiness in our daily life as well. In Gary Soto s story, when the kid is trying to be the perfect family, as shown in the Tv shows, with eating dinner and speaking politely to each other. His mother denied his idea really quick so as you read, he started working. I think he was completely wrong, and he realized that as well after a while. That was just one example of many how they are dependent on each other. Something to notice, is this is my perspective from what a successful family is, for me, a successful family is not how much income the family have. However, for me it is about how the family is still together and cannot be separated no matter the obstacles are. In Garo Soto s story, the kid is just nine years old so he is not knowledgeable about how the real world works, so when he said: I tried to convince them that if we improved the way we looked we might get along better in life (30), he was not really knowledgeable about that it did not matter how they looked or how they behave, as long as they have each other, they will be fine. Researchers have identified three potential responses to media violence in children: increase fear, desensitization to real life violence, and increase aggressive behavior. It may desensitve kids so much they think it is okay and no big deal for somebody to be hit or to hit someone in the head with a hammer. • 20. Persuasive Essay On Happiness We live in America, a country that is rather prosperous in comparison to many other countries in the world. In order to get to where this country is today wars were started, people enslaved, and countries exploited. The greater majority s happiness was derived from another humans suffering. This has occurred throughout the majority of human history and continues into today s society. While we may see this as the wrong way to live we don t mind sustaining our prosperity. Just as Jesus Christ suffered for the sake of humanity s sins, much of what gives us happiness unmistakably generates affliction around the globe. Just as every action has an equal or opposite reaction, every choice has a repercussion whether we know it or not. Our world is reminiscent of a yin yang symbol, the white side representing our happiness and the black side the pain and suffering that got us there. By choosing our advantage over what is right, staying ignorant, and entanglement in consumerism our happiness is the offspring of despair somewhere in the world. We are all guilty of encountering happiness that was in some way the byproduct of someone s suffering. Whether we realize it or not does not mean we are not guilty of the same sin. For example, I went to a job interview a few months ago and there were two other gentlemen that were far more qualified than me interviewing as well. We all needed and wanted the job equally although the job was granted to me because I knew a general manager at the company. I chose success in exchange for the other gentlemen suffering a declined job offer. A lot of the time we don t even realize the suffering that our decisions cause or that suffering even occurred. America has been at war for nearly half of its existence to protect our rights and liberty. While we are safe and happy within our own borders both our soldiers and the country we are fighting are suffering immensely. For many years America endorsed slavery as free labor to create a happier society for white people. In these examples, many people are suffering for the sake of the America or particular race s happiness. When correct, eyewitness accounts can aid in the conviction of many guilty people. However when it is incorrect, eyewitness testimony can do severe damage. Researchers have found that more innocent citizens are wrongfully tried and convicted on the basis of eyewitness evidence in Great Britain and North America than by any other factor within the legal system (Smith, Stinson, Prosser, 2004, p. 146). Studies on the weapon focus effect usually included a weapon s presence or absence during the crime as the independent variable and the individual s later attempt to identify the perpetrator in a lineup as the dependent measure (Steblay, 1992). The researchers hypothesized that correct identifications will be greater in the condition in which the weapon is absent. Steblay (1992) conducted a meta analytic review of the weapon focus effect which included 19 sets of data. The results show that the data supported the hypothesized weapon focus effect. Therefore, it is important to recognize that weapon absence or presence is only one of many variables that investigators recognize as influential in lineup identification accuracy (Steblay, 1992, p.420). Eyewitness testimony can be greatly affected by this phenomenon. If judges and jurors do not consider a weapons effect on eyewitness performance they would be ignoring relevant information. Cross Race Facial Identifications Another factor that can affect the validity of eyewitness testimony is identification in cross race situations. It has been found that people are better at recognizing faces of persons of their own race than a different race (Loftus, 1979). • 26. Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof Essay Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof Doris Lessing s A Woman on a Roof allows us to understand how some men view woman: as mere objects for display and possession. Lessing shows how each of the male characters reacts and deals with rejection from a woman sunbathing on a nearby rooftop. We discover how three men s preoccupation with sex keeps them unaware of how their advances may be unwanted and ignorant of their action s possible consequences. All three men share the desire to get this woman s attention. Working on a rooftop of a block of flats in the hot, hot, sun, these men seek a diversion from the relentless heat. They whistle, yell, and wave at a near naked woman on a rooftop nearby, but the woman pays no mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They report her movements to one another. Stanley likens her presence on her roof to a crime gotten away with. He states that he would never let his wife do what she is doing (Lessing 857). Acting as judge and jury, all three men seem to deny her the right to be on her roof doing as she pleases. The woman acts as if she has managed to escape the mindless need to entertain men (Allen 200). The woman on the roof has not offered one invitation for comment or attention, yet the men feel she has. By being caught by their eyes was invitation enough, yet the woman ignores the men no matter what (Lessing 858). She remains the symbol of a new age woman who disdains harassment from men. Tom believes he is this woman s hero. Throughout the story he sees himself protecting her from Stanley s domination (Lessing 858). He feels he is not her harasser and that she must be aware of his love for her. His dreams of her have convinced him that meeting this woman is in his destiny. He doesn t interpret her indifference as rejection as Stanley does and has no idea how he will suffer for it later. Far gone into his fantasy, Tom imagines the nearby crane aiding his heroic rescue of her. Stanley shows a hatred for this woman s remote coolness (Lessing 858). An attitude not yet displayed by Tom and long since forgotten by Harry, his anger reveals how he has dealt with the indifference of women before. • 28. Descriptive Essay On A House In Childhood Driving to Long Prairie, on the right side of the road, up a hill with a long, paved driveway will be a house to the left. This house is two stories with a basement. The first time I saw it, the house had a worn out, light tan vinyl siding with faded, dark red shutters from years of Minnesota weather. At the end of the driveway was a garage that resembled the houses color. To the right of the driveway was a large stone wall that was overrun with wild grape vines. In the middle of the wall was a stairway that leads to an old, rundown playhouse. Also, there was a large, gray brick shed further away. Beyond the house are the woods, littered with pine needles from the rows of trees my grandpa planted when he moved there. The whole area is surrounded by the overpowering smell of pine, and the silence the woods carries; it brings a calming, peaceful sensation to me. As the years have gone on, the house and I have aged, grown, and changed together. Walking up the cracked cement steps, I enter the house through a wood lacquer door. The smell that first hits my nose is the cigarette smoke from Grandpa. Once inside, to my right, is the dining room that is typically filled with food and laughter. During the holidays we gather there and fill our bellies with the food that we have all brought, and stuff ourselves with the sweets that grandma has baked. To the left as I enter the door is the kitchen which is always warm from the oven being used constantly with cooks bustling about like bees. If a turkey or ham was not in the oven, there are cookies or brownies or my personal favorite, rhubarb pie. I would salivate anticipating the sweet, tart taste to hit my lips, and I would devour it with greed. Straight ahead of the entrance is the basement door. The basement steps are simply the wood floor beams that were never completed. The basement was their storage space and where their appliances were such as their water heater, which gave off a soft hum. The basement had the faint smell of vinegar because my grandparents liked to pickle, so they had shelves in the basement cluttered with jars of various things that they pickled. Going back up the stairs and through the kitchen is the carpeted living room. The far side of the room ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Sheep Reflection Explanation: Jesus continued speaking to the people and explained that while only thieves climb over the wall of the sheepfold, the shepherd enters through the door. And when he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out, they follow him because they know his voice. But they would not follow a stranger because they would not know his voice. But the people did not understand what he meant by this parable, so Jesus continued, saying that he was the Door of the sheep. Thieves came before, but the sheep did not know their voice and did not follow them. Those thieves came to steal and kill and destroy, but Jesus, the Door, came to bring salvation and abundant life. Jesus continued, saying that he was the Good Shepherd and gave his life for his sheep. But the hired servant who does not own the sheep or care for the sheep leaves when the wolf comes. And the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. But the Good Shepherd knows his sheep and his sheep know him. And as he knew the Father, so the Father knew him. And he has other sheep of other folds that he will bring into one fold, and he will lay down his life for them. And the Father loves him because he lays down his life of himself, no one taking it from him. He has the power to lay it down and to take it again. And that was the commandment he had received from his Father. Then the Jews were again divided because of him, some accusing him of demon possession, and others arguing that a devil could not open the eyes of the blind, as Jesus had so recently done. Application: In this passage, Jesus is explaining to the people about the shepherd, the sheepfold, and the sheep. This is considered to be the only parable in the book of John, and perhaps it does not even qualify as a parable at all. Either way, it is a beautiful, encouraging picture of the way that Jesus cares for us, his sheep, even to the point of laying down his life for us. Jesus is our Shepherd, he leads us and guides us and cares for us. Sheep are very stupid creatures and need a lot of tending; so we are wayward humans needing much care and watching. But Christ is not only the shepherd; he is the door itself. We enter into life and safety through him. It is not through as through something that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
