The Growing Threat Of Space Debris Elimination Through...
The Growing Threat: Space Debris Elimination through Robotics
An over statement of the importance of the use of the Earth s orbital space is not possible. It is very
apparent that we as the human race, while broken up into many different countries, have grown
accustom to the comforts, knowledge, and safety provided by the technology we launch into space.
Examples of the benefits are cellphones, GPS for direction, environmental studies, weather
forecasting, defense, and much more. However, with every placement of advanced technology into
orbit the continuation of the ability to launch additional assets are at risk. The thousands of articles left
behind following the launch of spacecraft or vehicles generate that risk. Over the past fifty plus years,
the risk has increased exponentially. Donald Kessler, a NASA astrophysicist, shared his perception of
such risk in 1978 (LaVone, 2014). Mr. Kessler theorized a self sufficient event capable of eradicating
viable assets within the condensed orbital space encompassing Earth. Mr. Kessler noted that the
collision of defunct satellites or other objects left behind in space are capable of ensuing a chain
reaction of epic magnitude. The focus of Kessler s theory projected beyond the larger size debris but
emphasized the imminent danger of small debris in orbit (LaVone, 2014). At the time only theory, but
now more than likely possible. The preservation and continuation of space exploration have compelled

The Rite Of Spring And The Nutcracker Analysis
Listening to Music class has taught me a new way to listen and enjoy music. I have learned how to
differentiate the melodies, rhythms, and instruments in a song. It has also introduced me to different
genres in the music world, aside from what is usually played on the radio. I can now attend any
concert, listen to any genre, or watch any ballet and easily recognize the many specific aspects the
music being played has. Ballets are very interesting to me. The audience is able to enjoy the music
being played as it is telling a story, and being acted out through the performer s body language. In the
two ballets, The Rite of Spring and The Nutcracker, a great story is told in both referencing the many
great dynamics music has. These two specific ballets are written by different composers, and each one
of them have certain conditions they were written under. As well as different receptions, popularity,
and development. The Rite of Spring and The Nutcracker s differences has made some sort of an
impact in the performing world back then as well as now. To begin, The Rite of Spring was composed
by Igor Stravinsky. Stravinsky was born in 1882 near St. Petersburg, Russia. As a Russian born
composer, his music had a revolutionary impact on musical thought and sensibility just before and
after World War I, and his compositions remained a touchstone of modernism for much of his long
working life (Taruskin; White). According to Wikipedia, he is considered one of the most important

How Mark Twain Influenced American Literature
How Mark Twain Influenced American Literature When you think of the start of American Literature,
what comes to your mind? Authors such as Walt Whitman, Ernest Hemmingway, Emily Dickinson,
Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain stick out in our minds. They were the face of post civil war and
social realism poetry. Today we will take a closer look at Mark Twain, who was also known as the
Father of American Literature. His work has survived more than 100 years after his death.
Mark Twain was born in 1835, as Samuel Clemens in the town of Florida, Missouri. He was the
youngest out of 6 children born to John and Jane Clemens. He grew up knowing the hardships of
being poor. At times, his family struggled with being able to put food on the ... Show more content on

The Civil War in 1861 shattered his dream job. He was no longer allowed to be a pilot because of the
war. Instead of flying, he joined the war. This was also short lived for him. It lasted for about only 2
weeks. It seemed that his dreams were dying out fast. He next decided to travel out West. Where he
worked for another local Newspaper. He developed the alter ego name Mark Twain during this time.
In 1869, Mark Twain wrote and published his first book The Innocents Abroad . Sam married his
soulmate, Olivia in 1870. They moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1871 and started a family. The story
Roughing It was published in 1872 and the following year The Gilded Age , which was a story about
politics and the corrupt people involved, was published. The money was fruitful from these books. His
family and himself stayed in Hartford for the next 17 years. Well known stories such as The
Adventures of Huck Finn , Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , Life on the Mississippi , The Prince and
the Pauper , and Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court got their first start here. In 1891, they
were forced to move to Europe due to bankruptcy from Samuel s enjoyment of investing into failing
inventions. Shortly after, one of their daughters died from illness, and Samuel once again witnessed
more death. In the 1900 s, his writings became more depressing. They focused on failing humanity.

Liberty And Justice For All
Liberty and Justice for All?
Behind this mask there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea... and ideas are
bulletproof. V (1988). An inspiring and truthful quote on the sheer immorality of a mindset and ideals.
While this quote is meant to speak for the good and righteous things humans stand for to protect their
liberties and freedoms , this quote brings to light a sad and dark truth. That creeds of hate, creeds that
are only satisfied by the degradation of thy neighbor and implosion of any societal progress humanity
has made since The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery in the US in 1865, will never be
destroyed or ever truly broken down. These criminal unnatural acts against humanity, performed by
both notorious hate groups and everyday citizens, have been tearing at the moral and social fiber of
this once proud nation for years. If the federal government does not intervene and take a far more
aggressive stance against these crimes and misdeeds, then these vile acts will diminish any hope left
for social redemption into idealistic dust.
Before fully diving into these terrible and unbelievable crimes, it must be stated that from this point on
that there is no such things as an innocent joke or It was taken out of context. There is only black and
white truth, that these are crimes against humanity and the peace to which we have strived for
centuries to obtain, yet will never accomplish. Now, with that being said, into point 1. On June 17,

What Is The Theme Of Bartleby The Scrivener
Analyzing Bartleby the scrivener
Throughout the short story, Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville, the author magnifies certain
themes by using the actions and reactions of the main characters. By using the themes: alienation, man
s desire to avoid conflict, and man s desire to keep a free conscience, the author conveys a mood of
compassion and sympathy towards all people, even lawyers. In today s society, to many, it seems as if
people do not treat others with as much compassion as they should. However, there are some
examples of comparisons between today s society and text evidence found in Bartleby the Scrivener
that prove compassion to be present. Beside the estimated 150 year time frame, these examples
display that the themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Devices such as diversionary tactics, like a turtle in it s shell or the elephant in the room . In Bartleby
the Scrivener, the lawyer uses some of these said tactics to avoid conflict with Bartleby. The lawyer
does not want to anger Bartleby enough to where he will stop working. He refrains from doing so
because of how well Bartleby does his job. In the beginning of the story, the lawyer is somewhat
tough on Bartleby when he tells the lawyer that he d prefer not to do his work because he just wants
Bartleby to do what is asked of him when it is asked. But in conclusion, the lawyer feels that if he
wants to reach Bartleby, it is required that he is gentle. In today s society, we could compare the
devices shown in Melville s short story to actions of the general public. Many people today are afraid
of confronting conflict simply because of they do not wish to create a scene or they are worried of

Moldavite Pendant Essay
The Moldavite Pendant
I was becoming desperate in my search and I really needed to get out of the house as my frenzy was
not serving any purpose and the dogs needed their daily walk.
I d spent two weeks frantically retracing my steps looking for my grandmother s Moldavite pendant
which was of great sentimental worth to me. Lying on her death bed, my grandmother had given it to
me for protection when I was fourteen. She cautioned me of the strong energies it held and that this
pendant would protect me from negative entities. Her great aunt had given it to her with warnings of
the intense frequency and high vibration that resonated from this stone. Grandmother claimed it had

My legs hoisted themselves onto the bench as I laid back listening to the sounds of the forest. I closed
my eyes and sighed as the breeze gently blew on my face.
Grab my talons and hang on, I heard above me. Squinting my eyes, I tried to see who was speaking.
Quick, grab on, repeated the voice as I spotted a large black crow sweeping by me. My hands
automatically reached out and clasped onto the leathery fingers.
Close your eyes and don t let go.
I gripped the crow s talons, clutching with all my might and felt myself being hoisted off the bench.
There was no time for hesitation or panic and as a result my fear temporarily vanished. That is, until
my eyes opened and saw the forest and fields below me and in the distance, I could see my house.
Oh my God, reality suddenly hit me.
Don t look down, commanded the crow. Panic had already set in weakening my grip and as my hands
slithered down the talons and I began to spiral to the ground.
No o o o o, echoed my scream into the vast blue skies.
Daylight crept into the slits my eyes as I regained consciousness and crackling noises emerged from
under me when I shifted around as objects poked into my back and with a sudden jolt of recall I bolted
up. Where was I? Last thing I remembered was holding onto the crow s talons suspended high above
the forest. Was I dreaming? I shook my head from side to side as I tried to rationalize

therapy is rapidly changing. Technology is a nuisance to older generations but to today s generation it
is the only way to function. The therapy world s focus has always been about achieving the greatest

Roman Empire Research Paper
Rome has grown since its humble beginnings that it is now overwhelmed by its own greatness. Titus
Livius (59 BC 17 AD). The fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most well known events in history.
However, as thoroughly as it may be studied very few people know the many reasons for the fall of
this empire. This paper s intent is to argue that there are two major internal and two major external
reasons for the fall of this massive empire. Although the Romans were known for the spread of
Christianity, we see that all good things must come to an end. Before discussing why Rome fell we
must introduce the time, place, events and people that were a part of it. The Roman Empire fell in 476
A.D. this empire extended from North western Europe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand how the expansion of Rome led to its fall we must first look at how much territory was
truly under the control of the empire. Firstly, in 291 BC after the Samnite Wars, the Roman Empire
colonized the Samnite City of Venosa. In 29 BC, Moesia (modern day Serbia) was added to Rome.
Furthermore, in 16 BC Raetia and Noricum (modern day Austria and Slovenia) were conquered and
added to Rome. In 17 BC, Tiberius expanded his territory to the province of Syria. In addition,
Claudius , in 43 AD added Lycia (modern day Turkey) into the Roman Empire as a province. Now
that we comprehend how large Rome really was, we can explain how it led to the fall of the empire.
As Rome continued to expand more and more, it became difficult to rule and to have a constant
military presence. Even though Rome had already established an excellent road system, it was still
difficult to transmit a message from the capital to all the provinces, ultimately this became one of the
main reasons that the Roman Empire

The Band Called Greenday
Wind back to 1994, the band Green Day were topping the charts with their catchy punk rock tunes.
Leading the way for Punk Rock culture, they were youths and 20 somethings outlet for expressing
their frustration and angst with puberty, adolescence and the beginning of adulthood. Each day society
would see another kid ending up as a victim of a broken or abusive home, leaving the number of
youths raising themselves, ever on the rise. At the time of Green Day s rise to fame the generation of
youth strongly identified with the Punk Rock scene and culture that was home to bands like Green
Day. Their lyrics and musical style portrayed feeling of being alone in their pain, of struggling with
being different, and of speaking against society issues. It s no wonder that Green Day became a huge
influence to this TV and Media raised generation. My education wasn t school, says Green Day front
man Billie Joe Armstrong. My education was punk rock what the Dead Kennedy s said, what
Operation Ivy said (SPIN, 11/04).
Green Day are an American punk rock band consisting of vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong,
bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool. In 1986, 14 year olds, Billie Joe and
Mike formed a band named Sweet Children in Rodeo, California. In 1989, Larry Livemore, owner of
Lookout! Records saw the band live at The 924 Gilman Street Project, a notorious club that was once
home to Green Day, and signed them to his label. Right before the release of

We Are What We Eat Analysis
The importance of food to identity formation is certainly not unique to the immigrant experience.
Whether a part of invisible majority culture or deviant minority culture, food environments influence
our constructions of credos and categories. Generally speaking, eating preferences and behaviors are
part of familial and societal legacies. We may prepare the signature dishes of deceased relatives to
mark holidays or guard the secret ingredients of a family recipe. In other instances, particular spices
may evoke strong emotions or memories in us. Even in disordered eating behaviors, we tend to reflect
social values and constraints.145

Ethnic Food and the Making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Incidentally, food is one of the habits that immigrants in the US often maintain to some degree, even
as many other cultural practices slowly decline. 147 Several factors support this phenomenon,
including food s ability to: provide the immigrants with a daily portion of home, communicate cultural
values and social economies, as well as aid in the process of economic mobility. Food literature
expresses this legacy of migration, reflecting these same beliefs and their consequences.
For this reason, the identity discourse on food and survival resembles the lived experience of early
Arab immigrants.148 Like many other immigrant populations, they formed ethnic enclaves, in which
they continued many of their previous cultural practices, including those that involved food.
As Naff chronicles in her detailed history, Becoming American: The Early Arab Immigrant
Experience, Each settlement was, in fact, a stage on which the memories of village life were
reenacted. 149 Naff goes on to describe the eating habits of these early settlements, which preserved
Syrian foodways as much as possible. She writes: Their preference

Expatriation Reflection Paper
I have recently been hosted to speak at an eminent university to a class of graduate students about my
story and experience with expatriation. This experience has been quite overwhelming since it was one
of the few moments that I felt the exhilaration and passion of giving and serving. The most rewarding
part was sensing their eagerness to learn from real life experience, the hunger to discover more about
what lays beyond the doors of the university campus. I decided to speak that day about the process of
adapting to a new country and culture. Taking leaps of faith I believe that making major leaps in life is
a school on its own, this obviously came from experience. Everything that I have done to date in my
journey have been mainly driven by taking risks and stepping into the unknown. Jumping on that
plane when I was a young teenager, moving to Australia and not ever knowing whether I will ever
come back was all part of taking serious steps. This has become a natural phenomenon, changing
places, experiencing a nomadic lifestyle. In doing so, I started picking up on a pattern and seeing a
cycle forming every time I change countries and culture. So what is that pattern and how does it work?
Following an intuitive sense I truly believe that coincidences are like an encrypted message or guide
that eventually lead us into a certain path or veer us to a trajectory that we ought to follow in life. I
have undergone few of those coincidences that I eventually got to learn how to decipher it in other
words, I have learned to grow an intuitive sense that helped me navigate through a very colorful life
journey most recent one, was moving to Sao Paulo Brazil. After getting that call on that Monday
morning in Los Angeles California with an offer to relocate to Sao Paulo, I knew that my life will
change soon. My educated intuition also assured me that this new journey will be needed in my life to
get me to my next destination and adventure. Initial phase of comparison In my experience, within the
first 6 months from relocating to a new country (this could may as well be a new job, career or city) I
tend to always compare everything to my last or most exciting place I lived in. This can include
anything from roads,

Comparison Of John Locke And Social Contract Theory
Before sociology was a true discipline of academia, there were philosophical thinkers that thought
about the many complexities that make society into what it is. While there are many different
philosophical thinkers that share different points of view and theories, it is important to see how they
compare and contrast to one another. One of the philosophical thinkers we read about, John Locke,
and his theory about the Natural State and Natural Laws that follow, is a valid yet more theist
approach to social contract theory. We also looked at the works of Adam Smith, a Scottish economist
who looks at the division of labor in societies and how society has evolved to become dependent on it.
The last thinker that was discussed in lecture and the readings is Harriet Martineau. Martineau was a
British researcher who went to the United States to study many aspects of American Society,
specifically using the sociological lense of conflict theory to help with her research.
John Locke was a 17th century British philosopher who helped lay the foregrounds for social contract
theory and sociology as a discipline. He believed that men are free in their actions and are, without the
interference of government, living in a state of nature. Locke lays down the basic principles that
greatly influenced the United States Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence
was not only an important document because it declared the United States free from British rule, but

creaking as he steepled his fingers. What had once been heavy slabs of muscle in years gone by had
slowly given way to fat, but he was still a big, intimidating man. His gaze was inscrutable, his eyes
having long been replaced with soulless, reflective black lenses. A pair of heavily augmented
bodyguards stood to either side of him. They were the best money could buy, their bodies having been

gone, vanished completely, as if she had been swallowed by the darkness. Not bad, he said. He d heard
of her power, of course, but such things are often over exaggerated. He was pleased to see that in this

Catalase Optimum Temperature
Catalase possesses a range of optimal temperatures depending on what organism those cells belong to.
Human catalase has an optimum temperature of around 45 degrees Celsius, whereas plants have a
slightly lower optimal temperature for catalase at around 37 40 degrees Celsius. Catalase works
optimally at a neutral pH between 6.8 7.5, allowing it to operate in nearly all types of cells. Catalase is
generally found in the peroxisomes of a cell, but can also be found elsewhere in small quantities.
Although catalase is found in all cells, it can be in varying concentrations depending on where that
cell is in the body; the liver possesses higher levels of catalase compared to the rest of the body as it

Green Berets came to the defense of the film. One lieutenant colonel commented that when
Hollywood s doing it, you have to expect dramatization some exaggeration. But I thought it was a real
fine film. Another officer enthusiastically said, I think it caught the essence, And according to a Green
Beret sergeant major, the film, was just God, Mother, and Flag. Now who the hell could have any
opposition to that? It was a good, low key, accurate picture...The accuracy was there and the

I had a black slave in The Alamo, and I had a correct number of blacks in The Green Berets. He said

But I don t go so far as hunting for positions for them. However, one black character in The Green
Berets is not the correct number that was actually represented in Vietnam, because the number of
African American soldiers who served in combat far exceeded their percentage of the population.
Thus, Wayne did not accurately portray the racial demographic of the military at the time. Roger Ebert
vouched, The Green Berets simply will not do as a film about the war in Vietnam. It is offensive not
only to those who opposed American policy but even to those who support it. However, though the

Procedure: For the first part of this experiment, six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled
accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1
bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six test tubes 2ml of 15%
sodium iodide in acetone was added. 4 drops of the appropriate halide was added to the test tube
labeled for that specific halide. After adding the halide, the test tube was then shaken to mix
thoroughly. If a precipitate formed the time it took was recorded. Since none of the solutions formed a
precipitate at room temperature after five minutes, the test tubes were placed inside of a hot bath at
about 50°C. After one minute, the test tubes were taken out of the hot bath and allowed to cool. If any
test tubes formed a precipitate, the time it took was recorded on a table. For the second part of the
experiment, again six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following
halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane,
and bromobenzene. To each of the six

Michael Jackson Overcoming Obstacles
Michael Jackson
Have you ever had to overcome obstacles? I know I have. Michael Joseph Jackson was born on
August 29,1958 in Gary, Indiana. He lived in a small house with eight other siblings(Pratt,16).
Growing up Michael s family learned music through watching and hearing their father, but many
things with their father took a big turn. As life continued, Joe Jackson took interest in his boys musical
talent and started a band called, The Jackson 5.
They began doing small gigs to opening acts for many big top artists. Soon they began to hit the
charts, becoming the big talk of the town and a big hit with and for Motown Records. As all things,
they must come to an end. The Jackson 5 went their separate ways, only one continued their big

Joe Jackson was known for being too violent to his children. He was known for hitting the kids
regularly for disobeying(Pratt, 18). Growing up Michael and his siblings weren t allowed to play with
kids in the neighborhood and they were very afraid of him(Pratt, 18). His father whooped his son for
popping a string on his guitar and that was the night they became a musical group. When they started
to have stardom every decision was made through their father. When you re a show business child,
you really don t have the maturity to understand a great deal of what is going on around you. People
make a lot of decisions concerning your life when you re out of the room. So here s what I remember.
I remember singing at the top of my voice and dancing with real joy and working too hard for a child.
Of course, there are many details, I don t remember at all. I do remember the Jackson 5 taking off

Kill Shelter Vs Animal Shelter Research Paper
This is chapter two of my pet abandonment book and it is about the debate between kill vs no kill
shelters. First you should know that no kill shelters don t actually mean no kill, it means that only up
to 10% of the animals in their stock can be killed anything over that and it is a kill shelter. Many
people argue over if no kill shelters are better than kill shelters and vice versa but I have read many
articles about this topic and I can give you the worldwide opinion. NO KILL SHELTERS No kill
shelters don t accept all animals and are somewhat picky on what kind of pets they pick up. These pets
go into the shelter and will most likely not get killed by humans, and later on it might have people

Reviewing The Constitutionality Of The Voting Rights Act
Summarizing and Analyzing Justice In 2013 a court case Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder that
challenged the constitutionality of the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court in a 5 4 decision ruled
that Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which was an act that .....was unconstitutional because
it was based off of old data and no longer applied to those certain nine states which were Alabama,
Texas, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana and Virginia. (Excerpt from
Shelby County, Ala. V. Holder) The Supreme Court s decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder
was unjust because it abolished Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act which protected minorities from
voting discrimination in the South and caused a step back on the path to full equality because those
nine states will go back to their ways where they discriminated and hindered African American and
minorities from voting because they no longer have the authority of the Voting Rights Act over their
heads. The Supreme Court s decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder was unjust because it
abolished Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, which protected minorities from voting discrimination at
a time, during the 1950s where racial tensions stood between whites and African Americans.

They re now able to strike better deals with their suppliers and distributers. In the past, 3g Capital has
proven its ability in achieving cost cutting with Heinz, and with Kraft in the picture, it s time to prove
their tried and tested formula yet again. As a result, cost synergies are achieved due to the savings in
transaction costs. The company would now be in a better position to bargain with their outlets due to
the sheer volume and retail outlets are likely to offer more shelf space to the products offered.
Centralized procurement of raw materials and inventory needed for packaging helps in the reduction
of costs to a great extent. In addition to better sales opportunities, the combined company now has the
opportunity to refinance its debts, because of the high credit approval ratings of Kraft. This in turn
helps the total cost of capital to reduce significantly.
Manufacturing plants and labor had to be reassigned to better suit the new company s goals and

company announced that production would be consolidated and as a result, 7 plants would be shut

The Role Of Cybersecurity And Its Effects On The World
Cybersecurity Cybersecurity has only been around for a short time. In the short time it s been around,
it s gone from a simple application process in security, to one of the most complicated things to get
right in order to protect the internet. In the late 80 s the very first computer worm was created by
Robert Morris. He released it into the internet in the early 90 s. With it, he shut down large portions of
the internet. (Infosecurity Magazine) Back then, the internet didn t play a large role in everyone s
lives, as it does today. But with that breach, it alerted people that we needed to come up with
something to keep that from happening again, hence cybersecurity was born. Since then, cybersecurity
has only become more complicated, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Cremation
Cremation
Studies have provided an understanding and argue that the choice to cremate or bury the dead may
have been one of the biggest decisions for the Anglo Saxons (Williams, H. 2002). But also, that we
should take into consideration that cremation was a show and helped define social distinctions within
the living society, as the inclusion in the rite would define your social distinction (Williams, H. 2002).
Cremation also enhanced relationships between the living and the dead, as a rite of passage served to
dissolve and reconstitute not only the identities of the dead but also those of the mourners. Cremation
rites are social events that aim to re form the dead in the eyes of society and the world (Williams, H.
2002).
Many Anglo Saxon cremation burials have been compared to pagan burials, and are also believed to
be also the same thing as the Anglo Saxon gods Woden, Thunor and Tiw are seen in runes on the
cremation urns and in grave goods Many Anglo Saxon cremation burials (Williams, H. 2002).
Whetstones have also been found in cremation rites as well as holed urns, runic pot decorations and
bones fragments from sacrificed animals, these are believed to also link the Anglo Saxon s with pagan
burials as these are common pagan elements found in similar burials (Williams, H. 2002).
Cremation is believed to have held meaning spiritually to the Anglo Saxons, that burning the dead
may have released its spirit, that by doing so this may have also stopped the dead from hurting

Progressive Tax Vs Regressive Tax
The subjects of every state ought to contribute towards the support of the government, as nearly as
possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they
respectively enjoy under the protection of the state.
A progressive tax is a tax where the tax rate increases as your income increases. The progressive tax
takes a larger percentage from the income of high income earners than it does from low income
individuals based on the concept of ability to pay. By dividing taxpayers into categories based on
income level it then allows the wealth of the country to be equalized.
When individuals envision progressive tax systems they are usually referred to the income tax that is
due on April 15th of every year. However, progressive taxes comes in various forms, such as estate
taxes or luxury taxes on consumer goods.
Estate taxes require higher net worth individuals to pay an additional tax on their property when they
die. If the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However a regressive tax is the exact opposite. Higher income taxpayers pay a smaller percentage of
their income than lower income taxpayers because the tax is not based on ability to pay. A regressive
tax is generally a tax that is applied uniformly. This means that it hits lower income individuals harder,
such as sale taxes. When a regressive tax is based on consumption such as a sales tax, it can introduce
an element of freedom of choice. However, only the consumers whom choose to use the particular
good or service must pay the tax that follows, and those who consume more frequently most pay more
taxes than the occasional users. However, consumers have some measure of control of how much they
pay in taxes. For instances, if the consumer wishes to reduce what they pay in taxes, they can cut back
on or eliminate the use of that particular good or

The technology of electric vehicles has been around since the turn of the nineteenth century but faded
as the gasoline powered engine took the spotlight. Now the future of electric vehicles is very bright.
Their impacts are very significant ranging from economic, to new technology that can be applied
elsewhere, to most importantly, the environment. Ford and GM, through its Saturn plant, have already
begun production on their own version of the electric vehicle and have made them available to the

considered adopting the ZEV mandate for themselves, with New York already mandating the policy.
Several auto makers have filed suit against the ZEV mandate, but the latest rulings have gone against
the auto makers.
In 1989, Los Angeles City Council member Marvin Braude issued a worldwide bid for 10,000 electric
vehicles to be delivered to southern California in the mid 1990 s (Sperling 1995). The bid was met
with major skepticism from major automotive companies about the market for the electric vehicles,
and the bid was granted to Clean Air Transport, an Anglo Swedish company with a small number of
employees. The company spent millions to build a hybrid electric gasoline car but could not get any
funding to begin manufacturing. As a result, the company simply disappeared in the early nineties, but
it did not matter because by this time the major auto makers had taken interest.
Elsewhere in the world, many other countries were also experimenting with electric vehicles. British
manufacturers never stopped producing these vehicles and had turned out several thousand electric
milk delivery trucks a year. By 1990 it was estimated that 33,000 of these were on England s roads. In
Japan, major auto makers had indulged themselves in the development of the electric vehicle during
the 1970 s, but backed off their efforts in the 1980 s only after they had built a small

In a state of dilemma, individuals find it interesting when people confronted with life s problems. The
way people behave when the answers to which are not immediately known. Different situation, people

when it comes to describing the Habits of Mind. Curiosity is what motivates deep thinking when

Social Hierarchy In Jacob s Life
The main character, Jacob, never expected his parents to fall out of his life. He had a happy life at
Cornell, he was well on his way to earning a degree in veterinary medicine when his parents were
killed in a car accident. He felt a sense of powerlessness, he felt lost. He had nowhere to go: his home
was empty, and no one was willing to take care of him. The mission in Jacob s life now turned into a
mission of survival. He had to learn to become much more dependent on himself. This was hard for
him, and led him to walk out of one of his final exams to become a vet. Once all hope was lost, he
found a circus that changed the course of his life. There he encountered more powerlessness and
survival, both circumstances he already knew. The world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the central figures in these hierarchy s use power and manipulation to cause others to become
powerless. One example of this today would general managers in baseball. They have the power and
authority to send players to the major leagues, or the minor leagues. Many of these players depend on
their salary from baseball to support themselves and their families. When the time comes for call ups,
many of the players are left out, similar to how many of the circus workers were left out and largely
ignored by Uncle Al. They are kept in the minor leagues, where the average salary is between $3,000
and $7,500 for a five month season. This salary is lower than a fast food workers, and is a testimony to
how minor leaguers are largely disregarded by the MLB. The general managers have the power to call
up and send down the players on his team at will, giving him a large amount of power. Another trait
that is relevant in our world today is survival. For MLB players, this is a concept they have gotten
very familiar with. In our generation, new technologies have been developed that show many aspects
of a players play on the baseball field. There is a lot of pressure on MLB players to be consistently
good, because the alternative of being sent down is one they don t want to face. This is very cruel, and
can also be seen in Water for Elephants. Many of the circus workers have to fight for duties that are
relevant to Uncle Al in order to get paid. Uncle Al is similar to a general manager in this regard, as he
can decide how much each person gets paid based on their role in the circus. Three baseball players
are suing the MLB with hope that they will raise the wages minor leaguers get paid, but there is little
hope. The MLB is exempt from an anti trust law, meaning that all of this is legal. The minor league
players all have hope that they can make the major leagues someday, but the reality is that few
actually do.

How America Should Be Governed By Thomas Paine, George...
Throughout the Late 18th century America was becoming their own independent nation. The new
independent nation needed to set up a government to rule them. There were several discussions on
how America would be governed. Many people had different ideas for America and yet some were
similar. Thomas Paine, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and Thomas
Jefferson all wrote their ideas on how America should set up their government. Some of these ideas
were not used while some are still used today. Thomas Paine states his ideas for the government in his
Common Sense written in 1776. Paine states that America should not have a king. The first king might
be great but then ruling by divine right usually ends up with the people having terrible kings. Once a
monarch is put into place it becomes extremely hard to remove. Today in America we still do not have
kings which is very good for America. The democracy system that we have in place gives Americans
many rights and overall good country to live in unlike 3rd world countries. Paine brings up the point
that most subjects under a king do not revolt do to fear and superstition. This made me wonder why
they would fear. The subjects would outnumber the royalty and their guards if they would all stand
together. Paine stated that we should break all connection with Britain and only be trading partners
instead of allies. This did not come true. America to this day is allies with Britain. Paine also states
that anytime

We Are Seven By William Wordsworth
In Wordsworth s We Are Seven, the speaker is a man significantly older than the young female
subject. He is foreign to her country lifestyle, to a certain extent, based on the way he describes the
girl s woodland air and unkempt appearance (9). He believes he is superior to the child and is too set
in his ways to understand the world the way she does. He most likely shared the poem because the
interaction with the child had a profound effect on him. Toward the end of the poem it is clear he is
emotionally charged, which would have contributed to his motivation in sharing the exchange. The
audience of the poem is most likely someone similar to the speaker, someone more formally educated
who lives away from the countryside. We Are Seven was published in Lyrical Ballads, a volume
marketed toward the upper class who had the money to spend on books of poetry. The poem s
audience is similar to the reader demographic.
The diction used to describe the young girl is very naïve and pastoral. This will later play into the
young girl s characterization as the speaker s description of her contrasts her intellect and emotional
capacity. The speaker describes her as simple, which implies innocence and harmlessness (1). The
Oxford English Dictionary also lists more or less foolish, silly, or stupid as an alternate definition (
Simple ). Along those same lines, the speaker also calls her rustic, connoting a lack of elegance or

Analysis Of Carson Mccullers s Reflections
The setting is an integral part of any good story, and especially so within the Gothic genre. From the
endless varieties and specificities of haunted houses and physical and mental loneliness to the invasion
of the domestic space and invasion of the natural environment, the Gothic genre relies on the setting.
Not only do Gothic settings provide various moods for the audience and help shape the characters
story arcs, they help the audience better understand the characters. Some stories can happen in a
specific setting, yet can be replicated anywhere; the story of a haunted house not only occurs in a
certain kind of domestic space, it instills in the audience the fear that any domestic space could be host
to the events of the story. But the story and characters in Carson McCullers s Reflections in a Golden
Eye are dependent on their specific setting. The general setting of the South automatically allows the
audience to understand every character to a certain degree, but that s not the most important part of the
setting; McCullers s story is dependent on its location of an army base, a specific yet repeated place
that can be found across the United States. The physical base itself, and the social and emotional
environments of the army, shape how the characters see themselves, each other, and their actions. The
combination of the rural American South and a large yet isolated army base cultivate a specific
environment that are crucial to the events that unfold in Reflections in a

Copper Sulfate Lab Report
Analysis/conclusions
In conclusion, the charge/roman numeral on copper in copper sulfate is 2+. The percent composition
of copper in copper (I) sulfate was 40.58% and in copper (II) sulfate it was 25.46%. Later, I calculated
that the percent of copper in the lab was 26.13%. This percent shows that copper (II) sulfate was used
in this experiment because 26.13% was closer to 25.46% than 40.58%. If iron (II) sulfate and copper
metal is the product of copper (?) sulfate and iron metal, then copper (?) sulfate has a charge of 2+.
The mass of dry filter paper (1.18 g), the mass of copper sulfate (3.10 g), the mass of iron (0.70 g),
total reaction time (129 s), the mass of dry filter paper/copper (1.99 g), and the mass of copper
produced (0.81 g). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that my group could have done something wrong or different during the experiment. The only
source of error is not putting all the copper sulfate in the water and this could have a high but low
effect. It could have changed the results by a lot or a little because the putting less than was called for
made the mass smaller than it is. The percent error is 34.14%.
One question that the experiment generate was how did a chemical reaction take place? I did not
understand how the metals and compounds used in this lab could make a chemical reaction like color
change. One thing that I understand is that my group could have done better. If I had the opportunity
to repeat the experiment, I would follow the procedure more thoroughly, measure the mass of the
materials more precisely, and actually pour all the materials into the right places. If I do these things
right, then the results will be closer to the actual results than what I got during my experiment. From
this experiment, I learned many things. I learned that I need to be more precise to get the best results
in this experiment. You will need to measure the amounts to what is asked to be able to the right
results. I learned that some error can change the results easily. Some error like not measuring the exact
amount can change the results by a little or a

made for fighters for a count of 524 at a cost of US$13 million. This was the earliest serious fighter in
WWII and did its job until better fighters came out. It was known as a safe and secure aircraft that was
able to fly pilots back home after being shot up in action. Many variants of this plane were later
created. In addition, the shark teeth graphics were a big feature on this plane. The first flight of the

A P 40 would out roll a Zero at high speeds, and a good P 40 pilot could use this to great effect if the
Zero pilot fell for it. Another thing was that for every good Zero model, the P 40 had a variant that was
faster. Therefore, the P 40 pilot could always break off an attack. The P 40, of course, had an even
greater advantage in diving speeds, with well over 400 miles per hour attainable with no risk of
damage to the planes strong airframe. Early Zero s couldn t hit 350 miles per hour without the risk of
damage to their plane. To get back on topic of the P 40 s design, the P 40 s rudder had red, white, and
blue stripes. The engine cowling had a large shark mouth and eye. There were actually only 199 P 40s
made. The rest were variants of it. The next step in the P 40 developmental stage was the P 40A. The P
40A received a camera installation near the rear of the fuselage. The P 40B received a better protected
fuel system to keep it from possibly being blown up. The P 40C then was given the ability to carry
bombs and received self sealing gas tanks. Less than 50 P 40 Ds were made, and they basically got a
complete overhaul. They had a completely redesigned canopy, better cockpit, and all had two machine
guns added, one in each wing and the distinctive chin air scoop was made bigger so they could
properly cool the large Allison engines .The P 40E and P 40 E I was a lot like the P 40D except the

Essay On Bilingualism
Twenty percent of the population can be considered bilingual in the U.S today. They re over 311
different languages spoken in the United States. Living in the States, there has become a popular belief
that English is the only language that should be spoken. It s astonishing people don t apprehend they
re thousands of languages worldwide and U.S citizens are trying to be self centered around one
language, English. Therefore, this has generated tension throughout by cultural warfare. Cultural
warfare has been brought to this world created from individuality and creating own identities.
Bilingualism has created a window to connect with others around us from all over the world. Without
knowing more than one language, we would be restricted from many people and opportunities of
living an extraordinary, passionate culture.
Espada s ideas of bilingualism is expressed in several ways. Martin Espada s main idea he makes clear
to the reader is keeping loyalty to your own culture and traditions. Secondly, bilingualism can create
culture warfare between two languages. Espada argues the majority of the people want english to
become the only language and culture in the United States. But, Espada wants to keep diversity alive.

As You Go Creating A Missional Culture Of Gospel Centered...
Book Review: As you Go Creating a Missional Culture of Gospel Centered Students Alvin L. Reid
explains and covers multiple ideas, issues, subjects, and solutions pertaining to missional student
ministry. Throughout reading the book it is evident that Reid is not only extremely passionate about
the missional aspect of the student ministry, but also the reasoning behind this aspect. Reid s chapters
recognize the issues that many student ministries deal with and how the ministry can go from just an
event to a mission ministry. Throughout this book review I will summarize the content and highlight
the key components that Reid speaks about. In regards to what Reid explains about a missional student
ministry I will speak of how it will affect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also claims, This book is not intended to focus on what is wrong in student ministry, however, but
to offer a new (or renewed) way of thinking (Reid 18). Here Reid clearly states what the purpose of
this book is and not to necessarily fix the ministry, but rather enhance it and provide a new way of
thinking about missions. Reid then goes on throughout chapter one to explain in detail the purposes in
missional ministry and why. In this section Reid explains that the students today as a generation are
leaning toward challenges and making a difference. He even goes as far as defining this word,
Missional: to see the world with the eyes of a missionary, to think like a missionary and to relate to
others as a missionary with a message of the gospel. In short, life is ministry. Make disciples as you go
(Reid 27). Reid goes on explaining the missional shift that has happened in the western church and
how this can impact the student ministry as a whole. This idea of missional ministry in the student
ministry is simply not in perspective and Reid covers this. He goes throughout many chapters
explaining how the bar has been set too low and why this missional aspect is not being brought up in
student ministry. Reid then centers in on the gospel in chapter two and what this means as it impacts
the missional ministry. The main point of this is so that one understands that the reasoning of the
gospel is not solely

Essay on The Holy Bible
Genesis Chapter One as an Executive Summary
In the beginning... Genesis 1:1
Acknowledging a beginning in the first sentence of any text is in itself indicative of the nature of the
text as a whole. It is an acknowledgement of a creation. It is an admission that what is has not always
existed and that a higher power is at work. Genesis begins with this phrase as a reminder of the
existence of God; it emphasizes the fact that man is not alone. Dually, the phrase also is indicative of
the nature of the Book of Genesis, and as the first book of the Bible it sets the frame for the entire text.

The sea is populated first, then the air, and finally the land. Once God has created the beasts, human
beings are formed (Gen.1:1 27).1 The hierarchy of creation extends from large to small and from
general to specific.
Not only is the order of the Creation itself important, but the manner in which God proceeds gives the
reader clues as to the relationship between the Creation and the Creator in Genesis. And God said, Let
there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light and that it was good: and God divided the
light from the darkness (1:4 5). God not only creates by calling, or naming, but He also uses
separation as a means of creation. God is an organizer as well as creator. The phrase, it was good, is an
integral part of this creation account. It appears six times in the first chapter and its repetition adds to
the poetry and symmetry of the writing. It was good appears not after God has created something, but
after He has seen how that creation is organized with respect to the rest of nature. It was good denotes
the congruence between the new creation (or separation) and the rest of nature. God is following a set
of rules, or rather creating a set as He goes. God is creating nature with some order; it is not randomly
formed. Like the rest of the Book of Genesis, this mythological account of the Creation has a
significance and is not merely ornamental.
While Genesis One as a whole is striking as a piece of poetic

Essay about The Origins of the Cold War
The Origins of the Cold War
The Cold War was a state of extreme hostility and confrontation but without direct militant action
between the two world powers, the USSR and the USA. The USSR and the USA were originally
wartime Allies during the Second World War; however a string of events and issues caused a built up
of suspicion and distrust which finally escalated to what was known as the Cold War. The start of Cold
War can be simply defined as the period of time whereby both powers were simultaneously hostile to
each other and the idea of peaceful cooperation could not exist anymore.
Churchill s Iron Curtain Speech was a warning of Soviet influence beyond Eastern Europe. Churchill

The Truman Doctrine was an open and direct confrontation of the Soviets. In it, the Soviets were
accused of political oppression , suppression of personal freedoms and were even perceived as evil by
the Americans. Under the Doctrine, the US policy was to support people who resisted attempted
subjugation by outside pressure which meant the Soviets. The US felt the need to assist the free people
against the spread of Communism and saw the Soviets as a threat and an enemy. This was the first
concrete and coherent American foreign policy towards the USSR. There was no immediate official
response from the Soviet government. However, a few months later, the Soviet Two Camps Speech
emerged stating Soviet stand to American aggression. It stated officially that the USSR was anti
democracy. Also the need to prevent Western powers desire to dominate the world was emphasized;
therefore the policy of cooperation between the Socialist and Liberal parties would cease to exist.
Communist parties in Western European countries were told to adopt a militant anti government
stance. The USSR was no longer keen on peaceful cooperation and acknowledged the fact that the
Americans and the Soviets could no longer be allies. This marked the start of the Cold War as the
Truman Doctrine instigated and caused the end of any form of peaceful

The Short and Long Term Effects of the Hunger Strikes in Northern Ireland
The hunger strikes of 1980 and 1981 had highly significant consequences for Northern Ireland
nationally and internationally. While at first they polarised the community, they eventually led to the
beginnings of peace in Northern Ireland.
Soon after Direct Rule was introduced in Northern Ireland in March 1972 Westminster created a new
department, the Northern Ireland Office, which had responsibility for Irelandwhile a cross community
successor to the Stormont system was devised [1]. William Whitelaw was appointed its head, under
the title of Northern Ireland Secretary. Whitelaw aimed to improve his relations with ... Show more

Whitelaw later conceded that he had made a mistake in introducing special category status [6] as it led
to the political upheavals [7] of 1980 and 1981.
In late 1975 the Labour Secretary of State Merlyn Rees announced the phasing out of the special
category status . Acting on advice that removing the status from inmates who were already granted it
would result in major disturbances, Rees announced that newly convicted prisoners would not be
granted the status. These prisoners were put in newly built cells called H block (or the Maze ). They
were expected to wear prison uniform, carry out prison work, given little association with other
prisoners and were no longer segregated from non paramilitary inmates. While Loyalists staged
protests but soon accepted the conditions, republicans were far more determined in their objections.
They created an unofficial anthem that captured the depth of their opposition:
I ll wear no convict s uniform,
Nor meekly serve my time,
That England might
Brand Ireland s fight
Eight hundred years of crime[8].
Their protest escalated from the autumn of 1976 onwards. Initially they refused to wear prison clothes,
which became know as being on the blanket . For refusing prison clothes the defiant prisoners were
punished by being given only a blanket leaving them naked, confined permanently to

Comparison of the Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven Essay
The 1954 movie The Seven Samurai, directed by Akira Kurosawa, and its 1960 remake The
Magnificent Seven, directed by John Sturges have many similarities; for example, the plot of both
movies entails farmers hiring mercenaries to help fend off bandits that annually pillage their farms.
The two movies also have differences like the characterization of the bandits in The Magnificent
Seven as opposed to The Seven Samurai.
One of the main similarities between the Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven is the plot. In both
movies bandits annually pillage a small village and the farmers are left with barely enough food to
survive. In the Magnificent Seven Calvera and his men actually stop in the town and talk to the
farmers, however, in Seven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the mercenaries arrive, in both movies, all the farmers are hiding because they think the
samurai/gunslingers are just as bad as the bandits and they hid all their women in fear that they would
seduce them. As time progresses though the farmers begin to trust the samurai/gunslingers and are
trained how to fight. Unlike in The Seven Samurai the bandits in The Magnificent Seven actually
talked with the gunslingers and tried to persuade them to join their group, but to no avail, and the
battle was started. The fighting in both the movies is pretty much the same with little battles occurring
over a three day period until the final battle.
In Magnificent Seven one of the farmers, having doubts about winning, let the bandits in the village
when the gunslingers were out and when they returned they were forced to leave the village by the
bandits, but they decided to go back and fight for the farmers despite their deception. In Seven
Samurai only two samurai survived, and in Magnificent Seven three gunslingers actually survived but
only two left the village because Chico decided to stay and become a farmer again. The main
similarities between these two movies was the plot and the main characters were basically the same,
but the main difference was the bandits were shown with a lot more personality in The Magnificent
Seven unlike in Seven Samurai where the

Alzheimer s A Progressive, Degenerative Disorder
Alzheimers A Progressive, Degenerative Disorder Imagine a wife and husband being married for 44
years and having one of them not remember who the other is, or their past life together. The film Away
From Her (Egoyan, et al., 2006) shows viewers how the disease can greatly impact your life, and how
quickly it can form. The film was based off of a short story The Bear Came over the Mountain by
Alice Munro (Munro, 2013). In both works, the author and the director portray a significant struggle
between a husband and wife dealing with Alzheimer s.

But I can look again (Egoyan, et al., 2006). This quotation is meant to portray Fiona in a light manner
and show how much her brain is starting to deteriorate, and that she is aware of it. The setting is the
same in both works; Fiona s parents cottage in the hills of Canada, snow on the ground, and a very
serene view. The film (Egoyan, et al., 2006) goes through several states of emotional stress between
the couple. First being denial. Grant is in denial for most of the film. He does not want to believe that
his wife is slowly leaving him emotionally. It also hurts him that she cannot remember much about
their marriage but can remember the infidelity. He then begins to feel some guilt because he finally
realizes how much he had hurt Fiona during his time of infidelity. In the short story (Munro, 2013) it
tells you about Grants infidelity, however in the film (Egoyan, et al., 2006) the director just eludes to
the fact that there was infidelity in the marriage. Fiona, however, does not seem to go through much
denial saying, Don t worry darling, I expect I m just losing my mind (Egoyan, et al., 2006)
Climax
The climax in the both the story(Munro, 2013) and the film (Egoyan, et al., 2006) is when Grant
comes back to Meadowlake after the thirty days and finds Fiona has forgotten all about him and has
taken up with Aubrey. Fiona cares for Aubrey as a child but

The F 35 Lightning II
Abstract
The F 35 Lightning II is a 5th generation fighter manufactured by Lockheed Martin, Northrop
Grumman, and BAE Systems. Production began in 2006 in Fort Worth Texas and its first flight was
conducted in 2011. Jon Beesley was the first test pilot for the F 35. It has air to air, air to ground,
intelligence, surveillance, and recon abilities. The F 35 is second only to the F 22 Raptor but is
superior in air to ground combat. The engine is a Pratt and Whitney 135 and has a Rolls Royce Lift
System. There are three variants of the F 35: conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL), a short
takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL), and an aircraft carrier version (CV). It has advanced electrical
systems used to track the enemy and share information with other systems. A high angle of attack is
used for better maneuverability in combat and to aid the aircraft in turning at 9 Gs. The F 35 was
designed to be lethal and to give pilots the first shot/first kill advantage.
Introduction to the F 35 The F 35 Lightning II is a 5th Generation fighter, combining advanced stealth
with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network enabled operations and
advanced sustainment (f35.com, jsf.mil). The F 35 was created to defeat threat systems on the ground
and in the air (f35.com). Its ability to perform air to air, air to ground, intelligence, surveillance, and
reconnaissance missions makes it one of the best fighters in the world (f35.com). However, its

Physics Of A Baseball Player Analysis
As in most racquet/bat/stick dons, a baseball player s goal is to convey the greatest measure of energy
conceivable at effect. This energy is then exchanged to the ball, quickening it to a high velocity
(Adair, 2002). The direction and speed of the batted ball are the essential contributing components to
the consequence of the hit. A batted ball with high speed can bring about one of at least two successful
results, depending upon the ball s direction. In the event that the direction of the ball is higher, the ball
can arrive somewhere down in the outfield for an additional fair hit or perhaps go over the wall for a
home run. These outcomes are very great for the batter.
Energy is made by the player through his use of the kinetic chain (Race,

  • 2. The Growing Threat Of Space Debris Elimination Through... The Growing Threat: Space Debris Elimination through Robotics An over statement of the importance of the use of the Earth s orbital space is not possible. It is very apparent that we as the human race, while broken up into many different countries, have grown accustom to the comforts, knowledge, and safety provided by the technology we launch into space. Examples of the benefits are cellphones, GPS for direction, environmental studies, weather forecasting, defense, and much more. However, with every placement of advanced technology into orbit the continuation of the ability to launch additional assets are at risk. The thousands of articles left behind following the launch of spacecraft or vehicles generate that risk. Over the past fifty plus years, the risk has increased exponentially. Donald Kessler, a NASA astrophysicist, shared his perception of such risk in 1978 (LaVone, 2014). Mr. Kessler theorized a self sufficient event capable of eradicating viable assets within the condensed orbital space encompassing Earth. Mr. Kessler noted that the collision of defunct satellites or other objects left behind in space are capable of ensuing a chain reaction of epic magnitude. The focus of Kessler s theory projected beyond the larger size debris but emphasized the imminent danger of small debris in orbit (LaVone, 2014). At the time only theory, but now more than likely possible. The preservation and continuation of space exploration have compelled other agencies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Rite Of Spring And The Nutcracker Analysis Listening to Music class has taught me a new way to listen and enjoy music. I have learned how to differentiate the melodies, rhythms, and instruments in a song. It has also introduced me to different genres in the music world, aside from what is usually played on the radio. I can now attend any concert, listen to any genre, or watch any ballet and easily recognize the many specific aspects the music being played has. Ballets are very interesting to me. The audience is able to enjoy the music being played as it is telling a story, and being acted out through the performer s body language. In the two ballets, The Rite of Spring and The Nutcracker, a great story is told in both referencing the many great dynamics music has. These two specific ballets are written by different composers, and each one of them have certain conditions they were written under. As well as different receptions, popularity, and development. The Rite of Spring and The Nutcracker s differences has made some sort of an impact in the performing world back then as well as now. To begin, The Rite of Spring was composed by Igor Stravinsky. Stravinsky was born in 1882 near St. Petersburg, Russia. As a Russian born composer, his music had a revolutionary impact on musical thought and sensibility just before and after World War I, and his compositions remained a touchstone of modernism for much of his long working life (Taruskin; White). According to Wikipedia, he is considered one of the most important and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Mark Twain Influenced American Literature How Mark Twain Influenced American Literature When you think of the start of American Literature, what comes to your mind? Authors such as Walt Whitman, Ernest Hemmingway, Emily Dickinson, Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain stick out in our minds. They were the face of post civil war and social realism poetry. Today we will take a closer look at Mark Twain, who was also known as the Father of American Literature. His work has survived more than 100 years after his death. Mark Twain was born in 1835, as Samuel Clemens in the town of Florida, Missouri. He was the youngest out of 6 children born to John and Jane Clemens. He grew up knowing the hardships of being poor. At times, his family struggled with being able to put food on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Civil War in 1861 shattered his dream job. He was no longer allowed to be a pilot because of the war. Instead of flying, he joined the war. This was also short lived for him. It lasted for about only 2 weeks. It seemed that his dreams were dying out fast. He next decided to travel out West. Where he worked for another local Newspaper. He developed the alter ego name Mark Twain during this time. In 1869, Mark Twain wrote and published his first book The Innocents Abroad . Sam married his soulmate, Olivia in 1870. They moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1871 and started a family. The story Roughing It was published in 1872 and the following year The Gilded Age , which was a story about politics and the corrupt people involved, was published. The money was fruitful from these books. His family and himself stayed in Hartford for the next 17 years. Well known stories such as The Adventures of Huck Finn , Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , Life on the Mississippi , The Prince and the Pauper , and Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court got their first start here. In 1891, they were forced to move to Europe due to bankruptcy from Samuel s enjoyment of investing into failing inventions. Shortly after, one of their daughters died from illness, and Samuel once again witnessed more death. In the 1900 s, his writings became more depressing. They focused on failing humanity. • 5. Liberty And Justice For All Liberty and Justice for All? Behind this mask there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea... and ideas are bulletproof. V (1988). An inspiring and truthful quote on the sheer immorality of a mindset and ideals. While this quote is meant to speak for the good and righteous things humans stand for to protect their liberties and freedoms , this quote brings to light a sad and dark truth. That creeds of hate, creeds that are only satisfied by the degradation of thy neighbor and implosion of any societal progress humanity has made since The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery in the US in 1865, will never be destroyed or ever truly broken down. These criminal unnatural acts against humanity, performed by both notorious hate groups and everyday citizens, have been tearing at the moral and social fiber of this once proud nation for years. If the federal government does not intervene and take a far more aggressive stance against these crimes and misdeeds, then these vile acts will diminish any hope left for social redemption into idealistic dust. Before fully diving into these terrible and unbelievable crimes, it must be stated that from this point on that there is no such things as an innocent joke or It was taken out of context. There is only black and white truth, that these are crimes against humanity and the peace to which we have strived for centuries to obtain, yet will never accomplish. • 6. What Is The Theme Of Bartleby The Scrivener Analyzing Bartleby the scrivener Throughout the short story, Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville, the author magnifies certain themes by using the actions and reactions of the main characters. By using the themes: alienation, man s desire to avoid conflict, and man s desire to keep a free conscience, the author conveys a mood of compassion and sympathy towards all people, even lawyers. In today s society, to many, it seems as if people do not treat others with as much compassion as they should. However, there are some examples of comparisons between today s society and text evidence found in Bartleby the Scrivener that prove compassion to be present. In the beginning of the story, the lawyer is somewhat tough on Bartleby when he tells the lawyer that he d prefer not to do his work because he just wants Bartleby to do what is asked of him when it is asked. But in conclusion, the lawyer feels that if he wants to reach Bartleby, it is required that he is gentle. Lying on her death bed, my grandmother had given it to me for protection when I was fourteen. My hands automatically reached out and clasped onto the leathery fingers. Close your eyes and don t let go. I gripped the crow s talons, clutching with all my might and felt myself being hoisted off the bench. There was no time for hesitation or panic and as a result my fear temporarily vanished. That is, until my eyes opened and saw the forest and fields below me and in the distance, I could see my house. Oh my God, reality suddenly hit me. Don t look down, commanded the crow. Panic had already set in weakening my grip and as my hands slithered down the talons and I began to spiral to the ground. No o o o o, echoed my scream into the vast blue skies. • 9. Roman Empire Research Paper Rome has grown since its humble beginnings that it is now overwhelmed by its own greatness. Titus Livius (59 BC 17 AD). The fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most well known events in history. However, as thoroughly as it may be studied very few people know the many reasons for the fall of this empire. This paper s intent is to argue that there are two major internal and two major external reasons for the fall of this massive empire. Although the Romans were known for the spread of Christianity, we see that all good things must come to an end. Before discussing why Rome fell we must introduce the time, place, events and people that were a part of it. The Roman Empire fell in 476 A.D. this empire extended from North western Europe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand how the expansion of Rome led to its fall we must first look at how much territory was truly under the control of the empire. Firstly, in 291 BC after the Samnite Wars, the Roman Empire colonized the Samnite City of Venosa. In 29 BC, Moesia (modern day Serbia) was added to Rome. Furthermore, in 16 BC Raetia and Noricum (modern day Austria and Slovenia) were conquered and added to Rome. In 17 BC, Tiberius expanded his territory to the province of Syria. In addition, Claudius , in 43 AD added Lycia (modern day Turkey) into the Roman Empire as a province. Now that we comprehend how large Rome really was, we can explain how it led to the fall of the empire. As Rome continued to expand more and more, it became difficult to rule and to have a constant military presence. Even though Rome had already established an excellent road system, it was still difficult to transmit a message from the capital to all the provinces, ultimately this became one of the main reasons that the Roman Empire ... Leading the way for Punk Rock culture, they were youths and 20 somethings outlet for expressing their frustration and angst with puberty, adolescence and the beginning of adulthood. Each day society would see another kid ending up as a victim of a broken or abusive home, leaving the number of youths raising themselves, ever on the rise. At the time of Green Day s rise to fame the generation of youth strongly identified with the Punk Rock scene and culture that was home to bands like Green Day. Their lyrics and musical style portrayed feeling of being alone in their pain, of struggling with being different, and of speaking against society issues. It s no wonder that Green Day became a huge influence to this TV and Media raised generation. My education wasn t school, says Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong. My education was punk rock what the Dead Kennedy s said, what Operation Ivy said (SPIN, 11/04). • 11. We Are What We Eat Analysis The importance of food to identity formation is certainly not unique to the immigrant experience. Whether a part of invisible majority culture or deviant minority culture, food environments influence our constructions of credos and categories. Generally speaking, eating preferences and behaviors are part of familial and societal legacies. We may prepare the signature dishes of deceased relatives to mark holidays or guard the secret ingredients of a family recipe. In other instances, particular spices may evoke strong emotions or memories in us. Even in disordered eating behaviors, we tend to reflect social values and constraints.145 In her culinary history of ethnicity in the United States, We Are What We Eat: Ethnic Food and the Making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Incidentally, food is one of the habits that immigrants in the US often maintain to some degree, even as many other cultural practices slowly decline. 147 Several factors support this phenomenon, including food s ability to: provide the immigrants with a daily portion of home, communicate cultural values and social economies, as well as aid in the process of economic mobility. Food literature expresses this legacy of migration, reflecting these same beliefs and their consequences. For this reason, the identity discourse on food and survival resembles the lived experience of early Arab immigrants.148 Like many other immigrant populations, they formed ethnic enclaves, in which they continued many of their previous cultural practices, including those that involved food. As Naff chronicles in her detailed history, Becoming American: The Early Arab Immigrant Experience, Each settlement was, in fact, a stage on which the memories of village life were reenacted. 149 Naff goes on to describe the eating habits of these early settlements, which preserved Syrian foodways as much as possible. • 12. Expatriation Reflection Paper I have recently been hosted to speak at an eminent university to a class of graduate students about my story and experience with expatriation. This experience has been quite overwhelming since it was one of the few moments that I felt the exhilaration and passion of giving and serving. The most rewarding part was sensing their eagerness to learn from real life experience, the hunger to discover more about what lays beyond the doors of the university campus. I decided to speak that day about the process of adapting to a new country and culture. Taking leaps of faith I believe that making major leaps in life is a school on its own, this obviously came from experience. Everything that I have done to date in my journey have been mainly driven by taking risks and stepping into the unknown. Jumping on that plane when I was a young teenager, moving to Australia and not ever knowing whether I will ever come back was all part of taking serious steps. This has become a natural phenomenon, changing places, experiencing a nomadic lifestyle. In doing so, I started picking up on a pattern and seeing a cycle forming every time I change countries and culture. So what is that pattern and how does it work? Following an intuitive sense I truly believe that coincidences are like an encrypted message or guide that eventually lead us into a certain path or veer us to a trajectory that we ought to follow in life. I have undergone few of those coincidences that I eventually got to learn how to decipher it in other words, I have learned to grow an intuitive sense that helped me navigate through a very colorful life journey most recent one, was moving to Sao Paulo Brazil. After getting that call on that Monday morning in Los Angeles California with an offer to relocate to Sao Paulo, I knew that my life will change soon. My educated intuition also assured me that this new journey will be needed in my life to get me to my next destination and adventure. Initial phase of comparison In my experience, within the first 6 months from relocating to a new country (this could may as well be a new job, career or city) I tend to always compare everything to my last or most exciting place I lived in. • 13. Comparison Of John Locke And Social Contract Theory Before sociology was a true discipline of academia, there were philosophical thinkers that thought about the many complexities that make society into what it is. While there are many different philosophical thinkers that share different points of view and theories, it is important to see how they compare and contrast to one another. One of the philosophical thinkers we read about, John Locke, and his theory about the Natural State and Natural Laws that follow, is a valid yet more theist approach to social contract theory. We also looked at the works of Adam Smith, a Scottish economist who looks at the division of labor in societies and how society has evolved to become dependent on it. The last thinker that was discussed in lecture and the readings is Harriet Martineau. Martineau was a British researcher who went to the United States to study many aspects of American Society, specifically using the sociological lense of conflict theory to help with her research. John Locke was a 17th century British philosopher who helped lay the foregrounds for social contract theory and sociology as a discipline. He believed that men are free in their actions and are, without the interference of government, living in a state of nature. Locke lays down the basic principles that greatly influenced the United States Declaration of Independence. His gaze was inscrutable, his eyes having long been replaced with soulless, reflective black lenses. A pair of heavily augmented bodyguards stood to either side of him. Human catalase has an optimum temperature of around 45 degrees Celsius, whereas plants have a slightly lower optimal temperature for catalase at around 37 40 degrees Celsius. Catalase works optimally at a neutral pH between 6.8 7.5, allowing it to operate in nearly all types of cells. Catalase is generally found in the peroxisomes of a cell, but can also be found elsewhere in small quantities. The alkyl halides will be examined based on the substrate types and solvent the reaction takes place in. Procedure: For the first part of this experiment, six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six test tubes 2ml of 15% sodium iodide in acetone was added. 4 drops of the appropriate halide was added to the test tube labeled for that specific halide. After adding the halide, the test tube was then shaken to mix thoroughly. If a precipitate formed the time it took was recorded. Since none of the solutions formed a precipitate at room temperature after five minutes, the test tubes were placed inside of a hot bath at about 50°C. After one minute, the test tubes were taken out of the hot bath and allowed to cool. If any test tubes formed a precipitate, the time it took was recorded on a table. For the second part of the experiment, again six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. For MLB players, this is a concept they have gotten very familiar with. In our generation, new technologies have been developed that show many aspects of a players play on the baseball field. There is a lot of pressure on MLB players to be consistently good, because the alternative of being sent down is one they don t want to face. This is very cruel, and can also be seen in Water for Elephants. Many of the circus workers have to fight for duties that are relevant to Uncle Al in order to get paid. Uncle Al is similar to a general manager in this regard, as he can decide how much each person gets paid based on their role in the circus. Three baseball players are suing the MLB with hope that they will raise the wages minor leaguers get paid, but there is little hope. The MLB is exempt from an anti trust law, meaning that all of this is legal. The minor league players all have hope that they can make the major leagues someday, but the reality is that few actually do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. How America Should Be Governed By Thomas Paine, George... Throughout the Late 18th century America was becoming their own independent nation. The new independent nation needed to set up a government to rule them. There were several discussions on how America would be governed. Many people had different ideas for America and yet some were similar. Thomas Paine, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson all wrote their ideas on how America should set up their government. Some of these ideas were not used while some are still used today. Thomas Paine states his ideas for the government in his Common Sense written in 1776. Paine states that America should not have a king. The first king might be great but then ruling by divine right usually ends up with the people having terrible kings. Once a monarch is put into place it becomes extremely hard to remove. Today in America we still do not have kings which is very good for America. The democracy system that we have in place gives Americans many rights and overall good country to live in unlike 3rd world countries. Paine brings up the point that most subjects under a king do not revolt do to fear and superstition. This made me wonder why they would fear. The subjects would outnumber the royalty and their guards if they would all stand together. Paine stated that we should break all connection with Britain and only be trading partners instead of allies. This did not come true. America to this day is allies with Britain. Paine also states that anytime ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. We Are Seven By William Wordsworth In Wordsworth s We Are Seven, the speaker is a man significantly older than the young female subject. He is foreign to her country lifestyle, to a certain extent, based on the way he describes the girl s woodland air and unkempt appearance (9). He believes he is superior to the child and is too set in his ways to understand the world the way she does. He most likely shared the poem because the interaction with the child had a profound effect on him. Toward the end of the poem it is clear he is emotionally charged, which would have contributed to his motivation in sharing the exchange. The audience of the poem is most likely someone similar to the speaker, someone more formally educated who lives away from the countryside. We Are Seven was published in Lyrical Ballads, a volume marketed toward the upper class who had the money to spend on books of poetry. The poem s audience is similar to the reader demographic. The diction used to describe the young girl is very naïve and pastoral. This will later play into the young girl s characterization as the speaker s description of her contrasts her intellect and emotional capacity. The speaker describes her as simple, which implies innocence and harmlessness (1). The Oxford English Dictionary also lists more or less foolish, silly, or stupid as an alternate definition ( Simple ). Along those same lines, the speaker also calls her rustic, connoting a lack of elegance or refinement while referring to manners of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Analysis Of Carson Mccullers s Reflections The setting is an integral part of any good story, and especially so within the Gothic genre. From the endless varieties and specificities of haunted houses and physical and mental loneliness to the invasion of the domestic space and invasion of the natural environment, the Gothic genre relies on the setting. Not only do Gothic settings provide various moods for the audience and help shape the characters story arcs, they help the audience better understand the characters. Some stories can happen in a specific setting, yet can be replicated anywhere; the story of a haunted house not only occurs in a certain kind of domestic space, it instills in the audience the fear that any domestic space could be host to the events of the story. But the story and characters in Carson McCullers s Reflections in a Golden Eye are dependent on their specific setting. The general setting of the South automatically allows the audience to understand every character to a certain degree, but that s not the most important part of the setting; McCullers s story is dependent on its location of an army base, a specific yet repeated place that can be found across the United States. The physical base itself, and the social and emotional environments of the army, shape how the characters see themselves, each other, and their actions. The combination of the rural American South and a large yet isolated army base cultivate a specific environment that are crucial to the events that unfold in Reflections in a ... • 41. Copper Sulfate Lab Report Analysis/conclusions In conclusion, the charge/roman numeral on copper in copper sulfate is 2+. The percent composition of copper in copper (I) sulfate was 40.58% and in copper (II) sulfate it was 25.46%. Later, I calculated that the percent of copper in the lab was 26.13%. This percent shows that copper (II) sulfate was used in this experiment because 26.13% was closer to 25.46% than 40.58%. If iron (II) sulfate and copper metal is the product of copper (?) sulfate and iron metal, then copper (?) sulfate has a charge of 2+. The mass of dry filter paper (1.18 g), the mass of copper sulfate (3.10 g), the mass of iron (0.70 g), total reaction time (129 s), the mass of dry filter paper/copper (1.99 g), and the mass of copper produced (0.81 g). ... The only source of error is not putting all the copper sulfate in the water and this could have a high but low effect. It could have changed the results by a lot or a little because the putting less than was called for made the mass smaller than it is. The percent error is 34.14%. One question that the experiment generate was how did a chemical reaction take place? I did not understand how the metals and compounds used in this lab could make a chemical reaction like color change. One thing that I understand is that my group could have done better. If I had the opportunity to repeat the experiment, I would follow the procedure more thoroughly, measure the mass of the materials more precisely, and actually pour all the materials into the right places. If I do these things right, then the results will be closer to the actual results than what I got during my experiment. From this experiment, I learned many things. I learned that I need to be more precise to get the best results in this experiment. You will need to measure the amounts to what is asked to be able to the right results. The P 40 Warhawk fighters first flew in 1938 and caught the attention of the United States Army Air Corps, who placed the largest fighter plane order it had ever made for fighters for a count of 524 at a cost of US$13 million. This was the earliest serious fighter in WWII and did its job until better fighters came out. It was known as a safe and secure aircraft that was able to fly pilots back home after being shot up in action. Many variants of this plane were later created. The P 40, of course, had an even greater advantage in diving speeds, with well over 400 miles per hour attainable with no risk of damage to the planes strong airframe. Early Zero s couldn t hit 350 miles per hour without the risk of damage to their plane. To get back on topic of the P 40 s design, the P 40 s rudder had red, white, and blue stripes. The engine cowling had a large shark mouth and eye. There were actually only 199 P 40s made. The rest were variants of it. The next step in the P 40 developmental stage was the P 40A. The P 40A received a camera installation near the rear of the fuselage. The P 40B received a better protected fuel system to keep it from possibly being blown up. Reid s chapters recognize the issues that many student ministries deal with and how the ministry can go from just an event to a mission ministry. He also claims, This book is not intended to focus on what is wrong in student ministry, however, but to offer a new (or renewed) way of thinking (Reid 18). Here Reid clearly states what the purpose of this book is and not to necessarily fix the ministry, but rather enhance it and provide a new way of thinking about missions. Reid then goes on throughout chapter one to explain in detail the purposes in missional ministry and why. In this section Reid explains that the students today as a generation are leaning toward challenges and making a difference. He even goes as far as defining this word, Missional: to see the world with the eyes of a missionary, to think like a missionary and to relate to others as a missionary with a message of the gospel. In short, life is ministry. Make disciples as you go (Reid 27). Reid goes on explaining the missional shift that has happened in the western church and how this can impact the student ministry as a whole. This idea of missional ministry in the student ministry is simply not in perspective and Reid covers this. He goes throughout many chapters explaining how the bar has been set too low and why this missional aspect is not being brought up in student ministry. Reid then centers in on the gospel in chapter two and what this means as it impacts the missional ministry. Genesis 1:1 Acknowledging a beginning in the first sentence of any text is in itself indicative of the nature of the text as a whole. It is an acknowledgement of a creation. Once God has created the beasts, human beings are formed (Gen.1:1 27).1 The hierarchy of creation extends from large to small and from general to specific. Not only is the order of the Creation itself important, but the manner in which God proceeds gives the reader clues as to the relationship between the Creation and the Creator in Genesis. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light and that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness (1:4 5). God not only creates by calling, or naming, but He also uses separation as a means of creation. God is an organizer as well as creator. The phrase, it was good, is an integral part of this creation account. It appears six times in the first chapter and its repetition adds to the poetry and symmetry of the writing. It was good appears not after God has created something, but after He has seen how that creation is organized with respect to the rest of nature. It was good denotes the congruence between the new creation (or separation) and the rest of nature. God is following a set of rules, or rather creating a set as He goes. God is creating nature with some order; it is not randomly formed. Like the rest of the Book of Genesis, this mythological account of the Creation has a significance and is not merely ornamental. The US felt the need to assist the free people against the spread of Communism and saw the Soviets as a threat and an enemy. This was the first concrete and coherent American foreign policy towards the USSR. There was no immediate official response from the Soviet government. This energy is then exchanged to the ball, quickening it to a high velocity (Adair, 2002). The direction and speed of the batted ball are the essential contributing components to the consequence of the hit. A batted ball with high speed can bring about one of at least two successful results, depending upon the ball s direction. In the event that the direction of the ball is higher, the ball can arrive somewhere down in the outfield for an additional fair hit or perhaps go over the wall for a home run.
