The Slavery Of The Nineteenth Century Essay
When people today consider the lives of the slaves of the nineteenth century it is likely that their
thoughts would be focused on stereotypical southern plantation slaves. This picture is not all
encompassing, however. Slave experiences differed across the south as well as between the north
and south and produced a variety of different experiences. Sojourner Truth was born with the
name Isabella Baumfree as a slave in upper New York. Truth was sold between a variety of
masters, separated from her husband, and eventually escapes slaveryin 1826 shortly before New
York emancipated all of its slaves. After spending several years of taking care of her family, Truth
began to speak as an advocate for abolition and women s rights at conferences and events. Her
speech When WomanGets Her Rights Man Will Be Right was delivered at the annual meeting of
the American Equal Rights Association in New York in 1867. By this time, even the slaves of the
south have been effectively emancipated and the formerly enslaved have begun to search for equal
rights beyond their basic freedom. Her audience is presumably thirsting for further progress so her
speech serves to address her hopes for what is to come and for whom. She tells those in attendance
of how she is not done battling for equal rights in the wake of emancipation. The issues she
highlights are wage inequality and universal suffrage, which she puts into the broader context of the
ultimate advantages of giving women the rights that they

The Impact Of Communism And Capitalism

Economics 201

The Impact of Communism There are faults within both communism and capitalism, but sometimes
one can even effect the other. This paper will explore what the possible connection is between
North Korea s communistic economy and how it may have impacted South Korea s capitalistic
economy. At the end of the World War II in 1945, two separate regimes emerged on the Korean
peninsula to replace what was once the colonial government. The United States military government
took over the southern half, now known as South Korea, while communist Russia set up a Korean
leadership in the northern half, now known as North Korea. The political division meant sudden
disruption of trade with both Japan and within Korea, causing serious economic issues. While
trying to control the chaos that happened after the de colonization, the United States military
government privatized properties previously owned by the Japanese government and civilians.
During World War II the economy of the Korean peninsula was in absolute shambles.
Despite all the measures taken by both the new South Korean government and the United States
military to help the country get back on its feet, The Korean Warthen soon broke out in 1950,
killing one and half million people and destroying about one quarter of capital stock.
After the war, South Korea followed most other post World War II countries examples and tried to
help create economic growth by

Abbey Road Research Papers
Abbey Road is an iconic photograph taken by Iian Macmillan in the sixties. Iian stood on a
ladder in the middle of the road in order to capture the shot of the beatles, an originally british
band that came to the states, walking across the street in perfect sync. The photo itself lives on to
this day throughout Rock and Roll culture. The picture highlights the four members of the band
walking across a street in perfect sync. The sky is painted a simple sky blue and the trees are a deep
emerald green. Behind the Beatlesis a road dotted with man older styled cars, some parked and in
motion. The roaditself is a little street with no busy features or any abnormalities, Street lights nd

Everything from the blue sky above them to the gently used road underneath them portrays
simplicity. The boys, all dressed in different colors, gives a feeling of individuality and
expressionism in the band. Paul McCartney, barefoot and holding a cigarette, stands out in the
group. That fueled a conspiracy theory involving Paul. Details in Abbey Road such as the bare
feet, the cigarette and John Lennon s white suit led fans to believe Paul McCartney was dead
and had been replaced by an imposter (B. Myint). This also boosted the popularity of the image
itself and overall, the album. Paul is also the only member leading with his right which shows his
separation from the whole group. All together, the Beatles are a good staple and representation of
Rock and Roll culture for their expression of individuality, simplicity, and being originality. Abbey
Road s cover picture sums up the characteristic and respectability of the band which caused its
popularity to skyrocket. People enjoyed their music as well as the people behind all the albums and
rewards thus escalating the importance of character within the

Analysis Of Freda In The Dew Talker
Question Two
Choose three characters from the novel The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat (they must not be
from the same section) that resonate for you and explain why each of these characters speaks to
you. Explain why Danticat includes each character in the novel, in other words, what is their
purpose; why is this character here? Identify and discuss the issues that Danticat is using this
character to explore and how does she achieve this?
The Dew Breaker presented many interesting characters, so it was difficult for me to decide on
just three. The obvious choice would have been the Dew Breaker himself, but I decided to forgo
him and discuss three other less dominate figures in the novel. I chose these three women because
of their trials and tribulations, and tremendous strength to overcome their past. For this question, I
will write about Freda, in The Funeral Singer, Aunt Estine, in Night Talkers, and Anne, in The Book
of Miracles.
Freda The Funeral Singer Freda is the example of strength and determination in this story. I
admire that quality, especially in a woman in the 1970 s. It was more challenging in that decade
for a woman to be taken seriously, so as a consequence, most of the time, nothing was said, and
you kept quiet. This character was chosen to be the narrator of this story. Along with her other two
friends, she tells her compelling story about her life and the reason why she left Haiti to come to
live in New York. She has triumphed over the

What Is Australia s Journey To Gallipoli
The journey to Gallipoli for the young Australian boys was quite an adventure but it had diabolical
consequences for some of them. In Gallipoli, Peter Weir explores the hard journeys the young
Australians had to endure. Because the soldiers hadn t any idea what they were getting themselves
into, when they arrived the repercussions were tremendous. The journey through Australia, to Egypt
and then to Turkey was not pleasant for the young soldiers because they were all so far from the
places they knew and it was such a long, hard journey. In the filmthe young Australians had a lot of
new experiences being so far from home and they also lost a lot of their innocence from being so
exposed to death and destruction.
Firstly, The film Gallipoli by Peter Weir shows you the journeys of what the Australian soldiers had
to go through. Because they had never left the country or been on a long journey, the thought of

The voyage was hard, long, and tiring. The soldiers spent many days walking through desserts,
hills and trenches. It started with Archie and Frank catching the wrong train and then having to
walk through the Australian outback to get to Perth where the boats leave to Egypt. They
walked under the beating sun for days with only the packs they brought and a small amount of
water. While they were walking you could tell they were exhausted because every step they took
they were rigid. Once they arrived at Perth and joined the Australian troops they then went to
Egypt. Egypt is mostly dessert so when they arrived they had to endure more traveling on foot or
horse back. Can you even imagine carrying close to a 30 kg pack on your back for days on end?
There wasn t much food and water to go around for everyone so some people had to go a while

The Heart Of Blood Cells
It should be common knowledge that red blood cells are one of the most important details of the
body, but unfortunately, that is not the case. Most people believe that the heart makes blood
because it is common knowledge the heart is known as the main component of the body. However,
the bone marrow in the body is what produces the red bloodcells, platelets, and white blood cells.
The general population may also believe that having more than the normal count of white blood
cells could be beneficial to the immune system. Nonetheless, having more than the normal count
could be diagnosed as a cancer. On the other hand, there is a bone marrowdisease that leads to a
rise in the number of blood cells called Polycythemia Vera (PV) which is usually found in adults
over age forty. Polycythemia Vera (PV) is not an uncommon disease. Even though it is regularly
found in older adults from age 40 to 60, it can also be found in people even younger. Statistical
data indicate an incidence of 1 to 2 per 100,000 per year, which increases with age (Najean and
Rain Par.2). The biggest effect of this disease is on the cardiovascular system and because of that,
it has a direct impact on the quality of life for the patient and is quite expensive to treat. The
Polycythemia Vera Study Group, the France division, was proposed an experiment to try different
treatments on individuals who had the disease with ages sixty five and older. The drugs given to
the subjects were Hydroxyurea (HU) and

Photography Is A Culture, Not Just A Medium
INTRODUCTION
Photography is a culture, not just a medium. Photography has been used as an exploitative tool, an
explorative tool, and an artistic tool. A photograph can be a snapshot of time, a record, a detail, a
shift, a perspective, an emotion. In curating photography, I had to learn how to create conversations
and comparisons between images, whilst simultaneously letting each work retain its individuality.
There is no one meaning in a photograph. The intrinsically challenging task was to provide points
of entry into the works and elucidate the broad theme of the exhibition, whilst allowing counter
narratives and alternative readings to exist.
THE PRELIMINARY PROCESS
Working with an established collection like The University of AucklandArt Collection, curators
need to work creatively in order to produce an exhibition that is both innovative and adequately
represents the collection. The University of Auckland Collection includes approximately 140
photographs that are situated around the various campuses and storage facilities. With such a range
to choose from, we approached the task in a practical way. We initially surveyed the works and
found a broad theme emerging images of architecture and nature. Due to the range of locations
housing the pieces, it was important to then establish the works that could be transported to the
venue in time, and from these, we selected a more specific theme.
The Collection was established in 1966 with works from Colin McCahon and

How Does Rob Hall Show Courage In Into Thin Air
I m not going to get killed, I answered. Don t be melodramatic. (Hall, pg. 88) The famous last
words is a clear indication of the doomed future of Rob Hall, but it also shows how courageous he
was throughout the whole expedition. In Into Thin Air , by Jon Krakauer, Rob Hall demonstrates
time and time again his courage by showing nothing but confidence in getting his clients to the
summit, by waiting for Doug Hansen at the summit, and by how long he actually stayed up on the
mountain. First, Rob Hall shows courage by being confident in his ability to get his clients up the
mountain. With so many incompetent people on the mountain, Rob said with a frown one evening
in late April, I think it s pretty unlikely that we ll get through this season without something bad
happening up high. This might have convinced the climbers that they were safe as long as they
were guided by Rob Hall. When he showed that confidence, it assures the climbers that they are in
the best hands possible. His stunning record of getting people to summit was probably directly
related to the way he thought of his climbingskills. And that s what people want in a climbing guide
for Mount Everest, and what people don t want is a non confident guide to have their fate in their
hands.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knew that he was putting himself at risk by waiting. This also shows how selfless and how
responsible he was for his clients. I know I sound like a bastard for telling Rob to abandon his
client, confessed Cotter, but by then it was obvious that leaving Doug was his only choice. Hall,
however, wouldn t consider going down without Hansen. (Krakauer, pg. 241) This quote shows
that he wouldn t leave anyone on his team behind. It displays his underlying obligation of being a
guide and most people in his shoes would probably leave the client

The Diversity Of A Multicultural Organization
The multicultural organization Historically, diversity in the workplace was seen as an employment
equity issues. As the years passed by, it all changed. The surge of globalization has needed the
collaboration among people of different backgrounds and cultures. Nowadays, organizations are
now creating a diverse workforce beyond just gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. Many U.S.
organizations are embracing women, ethnic minorities, and foreign born employees more than ever
before in history. Diversity calls for organizations to recognize individuals for themselves,
regardless their designated groups. This paper will be focusing in three different parts of diversity
in the workforce: type of organizations, the benefits cost, and measurements taken by CEOs to
promote diversity. In today s society, due to the great diversity, organizations should be
multicultural to allow all members of different cultural backgrounds to contribute and achieve their
full potential. According to Cox (1991), there three different types of organizations including
monolithic, plural, and multicultural organization. The monolithic organization is demographically
and culturally homogeneous. According to Cox, the most important fact about this type of
organization is that there is minimal structural integration. For example, most Chinese companies
are monolithic from a cultural and ethnic perspective. The majority of their workers are ethnically
Han Chinese. However, from a gender perspective

The Pros And Cons Of E-Cigarettes
E cigarettes were made to decrease smoking and nicotine addiction, but recently, surveys have
shown that they do the exact opposite. Teenagers have begun taking advantage of e cigarettes
whether they have reached the legal age or not. The main problem with this is that before e
cigarettes were made, many of these teens had never even thought about smokinga cigarette. Many
teens believe that since they are not actually inhaling tobaccosmoke, there are no risks, but they
are wrong. Most of the same risks are still at hand, and it is even easier to become addicted to
nicotinewhile using e cigarettes because they contain a much higher concentration of it. For this
reason, e cigarettes are causing more harm than good to our generation.... Show more content on

According to a report done by The National Academies, e cigarettes are safer than burning
tobacco, but there is conclusive evidence that ... most e cigarette products contain and emit
numerous potentially toxic substances (Board, The Editorial). Just as many people ignore the fact
that smoking cigarettes can do harm, they are ignoring the fact that e cigarettes have the potential
to do the same, and applauding themselves for choosing to not smoke real cigarettes. The risks of
smoking e cigarettes need to be more prominently stated and that if they were, more teens would
choose to not smoke them. The use of e cigarettes is higher among high school students than
adults ( Know the Risks ). If they were being used to help adults stop smoking, then this would not
be the case. Teens brains are still developing until long into their twenties, and the dangerous
amount of nicotine in e cigarettes can harm brain development ( Smoking Tobacco ). E cigarettes
are just as addictive, if not more addictive than smoking tobacco, therefore our generation needs to

Ambition In Macbeth Essay
The main reason that Macbeth behaves as he does throughout most of the play is because of his
Ambitious Nature. Macbeth (the play s protagonist) was a brave Scottish nobleman who fought
against the Norwegians who were invading Scotland. After the battle Macbeth was given the title
as the new Thane of Cawdor by Duncan (King of Scotland). This was not the start of his growing
ambition. Prophecies and Lady Macbethcauses Ambition which leads to the effects of Macbeth s
actions throughout the course of the play. The first cause of Macbeth s behavior throughout the
course of the play starts when he comes across three witches. (The three witches are the antagonist

The Boeing 747 s Impact On Contemporary Globalization
The Boeing 747 s Impact on Contemporary Globalization
This paper addresses the international impacts of Boeing s 747 commercial airliner on modern
globalization. The 747 is one of the most revolutionary and famous airliners today, it could fit as
much as 570 passengers and could carry as much as 154 tons of cargo. This massive airliner is a
symbol of the progress in civil aviation and signifies a new era in travel. This paper discusses who
made this aircraft, the trade and financial influence of creating this aircraft and how this aircraft
reflects the global division of labor.
To begin with, Webster s dictionary defines globalizationas the development of an increasingly
integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping
of cheaper foreign labor markets. although most people would agree that this is a good definition.
Stager defines the term globalization as a set of social processes that are thought to transform our
present social condition into one of globality. (stager, p.8) Stager says that we use the term
globality to signify a social condition characterized by the existence of global economic, political,
cultural, and environmental interconnections and flows that make many of the currently existing
borders and boundaries irrelevant. (stager, p.7) The 747 s impact on globality has interlocked
nations and their people economically, and socially. The introduction of the 747 further allowed
peoples of nations to travel

Significance Of Restoring African World History

Ancient Africa and Kemet
Discuss the Significance of Restoring African World History.
Does Africa have any history? Have the people of Africa made any significant contribution to
humanity? With the knowledge that the birthplace of humankind is Africa(Sanz, 2012, p.6), it does
make one wonder how a place that is home to millions of people was not able to establish a
civilised system until the European interactions that started in the 16th century. In this piece, I will
explain how the European imperialistic distortions of Africa s past has led to this general belief
that Africa has no history. I will also be using examples of some of the achievements of ancient
Africa, to show the vital part they have played in the advancement of humanity and civilisation for
thousands of years. Finally, I will be looking at the controversy surrounding the ancestral heritage of
ancient Egypt, Kemet, and how this view has changed over time.
It is important to note that Eurocentrism is not some sinister entity or collective, orchestrating a
master plan to brainwash everyone. There are positives and negatives to having a Eurocentric
viewpoint, but for the sake of this piece I will be focusing on the points of western culture that had
an influence on African history.
I
Firstly, to understand why the worldview of Africa is inaccurate, we first need to understand the
terms Eurocentric and Eurocentrism. These terms are used to describe the focus on European

Case Study Of Ventra Healthcare
Competitive Rivalry:
Rivalry among competing firms is usually the most influential one of the five forces as the firm
with the competitive advantage might implement different strategies to gain advantage (Kotler,
2009). Therefore, the rivalry within the healthcare industry is very intense and at the beginning of
2006 the healthcare industry was dominated by seven major organisations Abbot, Bayer, Beckman
Coulter, Dade Behring, Ortho Clinical, Olympus and Roche (Matricardi, 2013). In general, rivalry
increases as soon as the number of competitors increases, since all of them are aiming at increasing
profitability (Porter, 1998). However, by the end of 2008 Siemenshad acquired both Bayer

of a strong sales force, create a trustworthy brand, and to compete with the likes of Siemens in

distribution channels as well as other assets (Siemens, 2012). These assets present a significant
barrier to new entrants as they require huge capital investment and therefore, these assets enable the

very difficult for new entrants to compete with larger organisations like Siemens (Dhami, 2008).
Other factors that restrict new entrants into the market are organisations like Siemens, Abbot

which make them a one stop shop for these institutions thus increasing loyalty with its customers
and creating obstacles for new entrants (Hollensen, 2011). However, this industries offers its
market leaders revenue streams that boosts billions of dollars for example Siemens healthcare in

Humans Discover Nuclear Fission Essay
Humans Discover Nuclear Fission
It seems as though our fellow Earthlings deserve more credit then we have given them in the past;
they have seemingly discovered the so called, Nuclear Fission. The situation on earth has not been
reported on in over a century, yet they have advanced rather rapidly; in fact more than they can
handle.
Nuclear Fission, as discovered here in Trantor, has both benefits and drawbacksin society.
However, earth is an obscure planet with rather demanding creatures that in the past have used
technology and knowledge negatively. Within the last hundred years, this discovery had made a
rather large impact on the people of earth. Amateurs, as they are, they have made their lives easier,

(We must keep in mind that because humans cannot fly, they have silly vehicles which do indeed
produce terrible pollution; a major problem on earth.) Nuclear power plants (factories that have
been built on earth to create such processes) can be fairly costly to build. However, a nuclear plant
would only put a significant amount of radioactivity into the environment if there was some type of
accident as compared to coal plants which put radioactivity into the environment as part of their
normal operations. In this perspective, nuclear fission is an advantage. On the other hand, should a
nuclear meltdown occur due to an uncontrolled reaction, dangerous radiation would be released
potentially harming people. Another similar situation that arises is the storage of waste products
which again leads to the same issue of safety; is it worth the risk?
Human society, cultures, and politics too have affected the development of nuclear fission and its
applications. Modern cultures promote the use of nuclear energy, saying that it will prosper for the
future; however, more conservative cultures are unsure about what it will lead to. Different
mentalities have lead to both positive and negative results of nuclear fission.
The waste products of fission were found by humans to have been useful

Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di’s Mausoleum
Qin Shi Haung Di was the first emperor of the Qin Empire in China during the 3rd century BCE.
Born in 261 BCE, Haung inherited the throne from his father at the early age of 13 and
showcased his ambitious spirit by unifying China and creating his empire (Swart 1984). While he
is known mostly for building the Great Wall of China, he also left quite a legacy when it comes
to his elaborate burial grounds. In 246 BCE, thirty six years before his death in 210 BCE, Emperor
Qin started planning the construction of his extravagant final resting place (Swart 1984). The

Every terracotta warrior was painted after they were sculpted. What is most amazing about the

red and blue pigments that could be mixed, the ancient world never mastered a true purple color,
except for a brief time in China during the Qin and Han dynasties (Patel 2007). The color itself

Has Pos-Fordism Replaced Fordism in Capitalist Society
The beginning of the 20th century when Henry Ford first time put his genius idea of dividing
works into separate parts by using assemble line into practice was marked as the start of massive
production. It is also the debut for Taylorism in the massive production area. After that such
method of massive standard production was named as Foedism. Based on the scientific
management theory that comes from Taylorism, the manufacturing area began to be dominated by
Fordism. However, since the 1960s when a series of new technologies appeared, manufacturing did
not have to be formed in a fixed method. A more flexible production method, which was named as

Since it is such a unusual idea to the dominant opinions, theories of post Fordism have suffered
some strong criticism. Pollert(1988), one who is opposed to the opinion that Taylorism and
Fordism have been replaced by post Fordism , argues that theories of flexibility are too simple to
believe and at times incorrect. She says that the comments, which indicate the Fordism once
dominated the production method are incorrect. She otherwise, points out that the flexibility to
produce specialized products are nothing new and the key of Japanese business success is cheap,
well designed and reliable products rather than a small amount of specialized products. Thus,
flexible specialization and post Fordism was not that successful. To the issue about relationships
between flexibility and skill levels, she maintains a different view that flexibility at times also leads
to some opposite effects. In addition, Pollert(1988) also worried about introducing new technology
or new management proposals into practices, since it may cause conflicts between workers and
management. Apart from Pollert, Stephen Wood(1989) also questions whether the flexibility has
led to a greater requirement of skills. And he doubts that the people who support the post Fordism
theories exaggerate their cases. Just as Hall(1988) claims that there is still no evidence that

other people. I remember back in the past, most of my fights with my ex boyfriend always
started with him saying how he is tired of me pointing out my flaws and needing him to reassure
me that I am perfectly fine. Since I have a complex with the way I look mainly because of my
acne I would always question my ex boyfriend about other different type of girls. At one point he
told me that I should stop comparing and asked me if I believe him when he says he loves me.
To which I replied, to a certain degree because there is so much things that comes into factor
(such as my appearance and behaviors). He then says to me that if I do not believe in loving
myself for who I am then there will always be a limit to my love and acceptance. All of us want
to be acceptable for who we are. In order to be loved unconditionally we must love and accept
ourselves first. This article talks about that in order to be unconditionally loved or love
unconditionally we must start with ourselves first. We must begin to love ourselves
unconditionally before loving others and expecting that kind of love back. I see flaws within
myself every day and believes that those flaws are the reasons why I would not be accepted for
who I am. Often time people do not even notice my flaws such as my acne, behaviors, or
appearance until I point them out myself. My friends will often ask me, if you do not love
yourself why would other? By practicing lovingkindness towards ourselves, we come face to face
with self hatred

The True Meaning of a Religion
The true meaning of a religion
Religion can be found almost everywhere around us, influencing ones lifestyle and surroundings
much more than we are aware of. Often becoming a huge element of society in several areas of our
lives. Though some argue one is born already knowing their religious faith, classifying religion as
something that cannot be learned but more as an inner spirituality present at birth. Other would say
there is no doubt religion is socially constructed and subconsciously learned plus spread through
peers, family or close ones, strongly impacting societies and cultures. Some sort of hidden objective

History Of The Writs Of Assistance Essay
When discussing the Writs of Assistance, we must first understand why they were created and
why James Otis believed they were infringing upon citizens basic rights. Writs of Assistance were
first authorized by English Parliament and King Charles II in 1660, which later was issued by
Exchequer of Pleas, a court in Englandthat dealt with cases surrounding the principles of natural
and common law. Writs of Assistance were used in both English and colonial governments at the
time, and were created to grant law enforcement officials the right to search homes suspected of
holding smuggled goods without the need for a warrant. A Writ of Assistance was commonly
called a writ of restitution or a writ of possession depending on the need for the writ, whether it
be a eviction or a search for goods. During the time that Charles II served as king of england, the
legality of Writ of Assistance was questioned in 1761, during the attempted renewal of the law.
Although the Revolutionary war did not start until 1775, the Writ of Assistance law that allowed
general warrants in the colonies played a major role in the disagreements... Show more content on

The games graphics are highly detailed; this makes the missions more captivating. There are two

to alternate between dogfighting in a jet and battling enemies on foot. The other involves hacking
into someone s mind and fighting the memories of a long past battle. Both represent Call of Duty at
its best: big showpiece missions that feel distinct both in style and in the challenges you face. But
they re ultimately stones striking a pond, their ripples lost to the stillness. On the whole, this
campaign is very one note, albeit one that sounds better in concert.

Early Human Traits
There are many traits and behaviors which can be used to define as early humans, such as big
brains, language, and distinctive cultural or behavioral traits such as tool technology. One of the
most fundamental human characteristic which distinguish early hominins from other apes is
bipedalism. (Kottak) Walking upright on two legs is the trait that defines the hominin lineage. It
took paleoanthropologists a long time to realize that bipedalism is the key difference between human
and ape. They tended to believe large brains made hominins unique and it was a reasonable
conclusion at that time because the only available hominin fossils were Neanderthals and Homo
Erectus. However, with more and more earlier hominin fossils being found, paleoanthropologists

The Satanic Verses, Truth And Falsity
Through the violent deaths and hypocrisy, doubt in the sacred is reintroduced. Eileen Barker
illustrates brainwashing as the control the religious leaders have exerted over their followers . This
questions whether belief is imposed or cultivated. John Updike writes that Everything seemed still
in place, yet something was immensely wrong . Highlighting the sense of doubt in postmodernist
texts, one may find that some things, such as religion, cannot be explained. Faithcan waver or hold
steadfast, characters revisiting belief in skepticism as ideology falters. In The Satanic Verses, truth
and falsity is ultimately ambiguous. Some characters are featured as wrestling with religious doubt,
others like Gibreel and Saladin think over their atheism after supernatural events. Definition is
resisted, borders blurred, it is questionable whether events are happening or merely figments of
imagination. Gibreel asks for some sign (30) that Godis present during his illness, but realizes he
is talking to air. He lost his faith (29) and even after metamorphosis, it is revealed that Gibreel is
schizophrenic. The metamorphosis may be invented, as Rekha says to Gibreel maybe you are
going crazy (7), but he is seen by several others to levitate. Illustrating the struggle between the
real and imaginary, miracles are doubted, neither denied nor confirmed. From Where there is no
belief, there is no blasphemy (380), the sacred is discredited and blasphemy is no more than a simple

Ivan Pavlov was a physiologist, who contributed to the field of medicine, with his study of the

he would follow in his father s footsteps and become a priest. However, he was greatly influenced

Latin America Metaphors
Solitude is more than a state of being alone; it is recognizing the fact that the individuals whom one
introduces to their environment will never learn to accept their differences. It is being aware that
positive things will never be satisfiable enough to gratify those around you. Gabriel Garcia
Marquez, a Colombian author, illustrated the ideal picture of solitude in Latin Americathough his
words he expressed in his Nobel Prize speech. Gabriel Marquez lived his childhood in a small
isolated town in Columbia alongside his grandparents. Marquez was rudely denied a VISA to the
United Statesdue to his thoughts about the U.S military. However, Marquez was still able to
publish and sell millions of copies of his novel 100 Years of Solitude which later became the
second most read book in Latin America, following the Bible. In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Nobel
Prize speech, The Solitude of Latin America, he uses the term solitude as a metaphor for Latin
America through negative stereotypes from other countries and Latin America s geographic
isolation.
Initially, Latin America endures solitude as a result from the negative stereotypes they face from
other countries based on inferred connotations from past actions. The chief faction that interrogates
Latin America for their differences are the Europeans leaders who Have thought so, with the
childishness of old timers who have forgotten the fruitful excess of their youth (Marquez 3). Latin

Often the best things in life come with sorrow before the joy. This is true in the life of Katie
Davis, who is a missionary in Uganda. She wrote a book about her life there called Kisses from
Katie. It tells of the hard times, the good times, and all sorts of things that she has experienced
during her time in Uganda. Katie is always talking about the joy and the peace she gets from living
the life God has called her to, but that does not mean she doesn t experience trials and hard times
too. This is shown in one specific situation with one of her daughters that displays the idea of
healthy confusion which is a situation that has both pleasure and disquietude.

of His Kingdom and the glory that is His. So I trust Him. (Davis 256) Katie knew that through
her heartache and brokenness, God was still in control. She knew He was taking care of her, and
He was taking care of Jane too. The pleasure comes in here. This is the source of happiness in this

Truth Behind The Mirror
Reflections no longer hold truth when encased by a mirror. There is darkness behind the glass
that seeps into people s subconscious. As it lingers inside them, it does not let up on its firm
grasp on the victim. This demonstrates how society s views can have a negative effect on an
individual. Outside pressure can become an overbearing force that is placed on individuals.
People should not try to capsize a stable boat when there is nothing wrong with it. People are too
focused on what makes them different from society, and how that is a negative thing. However,
being unique is what makes them beautiful. Comparing murky pond water and a crystal clear
mirror allows people to see the distortions in themselves and how everything is not surface deep.
When looking into a murky pond or a clear mirror, people perceive a distorted version of
themselves. A pond drenched by pouring rain soon causes the overflowing waters to escape from
the banks and loosens the rich, black soil. The next day, the cloudy pond is consumed by the
disrupted mud which dims the reflection that is cast when the on looker is looking in. As the mud
rises to the surface, the image people have of themselves become muddled. Mud that is now
stirred in with the water will not let the sediment float back to the pond s bottom which makes it
appear that the once clear water will forever remain as a diluted pond. Even the moss that is
scattered on the surface limits the persons view, and capsizes on their

was only in 2010 that a class action suit was brought to the courts in Ontario and 2011 from

the former Grand Chief of the Union of Ontario Indians, we have now entered a new stage in the

Salt Concentration And Density Affects Floating Objects
The purpose of this experiment is to determine how salt concentration and density affects floating
objects. The control is water not having salt, and the constant variables are the amount of water in
each cup and the objects. The independent variable is the amount of salt added in the cup. The
dependent variable is the height of the water and the densityof the water.
Background Research
How do objects float on water? The density and buoyancy are properties of matter that determine
how objects float on water. Density shows the amount of mass in the volume of an object. For
example, the density of water is one gram per cubic centimeter. It is a property that the quantity or
shape does not affect the density of the material. This means that ... Show more content on

Along with this, if the first hypothesis is correct then the amount of salt will determine if the object
floats or sinks. The data from the experiment supports my hypothesis, showing that the more salt
that is added, the higher the object will float. Because of the water interaction with salt, it affects
whether the object floats or not. The salt concentration may differ for each object when doing an
experiment. For instance, when an experiment was done, the marbles, eggs, and bouncy balls
needed different amounts of salt to float. When substances dissolve in a liquid the density of the

Louisville Flood Victims By Margaret Bourke-White
Description:
Margaret Bourke White. Louisville Flood Victims. 1937. Photograph.
Analysis:
Margaret Bourke White utilizes the actual horizontal lines of the billboard, as well as the implied
lines of the people s heads. The repetition of the people along with the faces on the billboard,
forcefully move the attention horizontally to the right of the photograph. This, in turn, makes the
viewer anticipate what is coming next. Although we know that the people are in a state of motion,
there is a sense of stillness as if the moment will never end. At first glance, the balance appears to
be somewhat symmetrical, but looking further, one notices the small cluster of children in the
bottom left corner, casting the balance as asymmetrical. It also appears as if there is a downward
slope going from the furthermost right, to the furthermost left of the image. The colors seem varied
and dark, contrasting the coats of the individuals with the stark white bags, and the intrusive bright
colors of the billboard, this creates a contrast in the mood of the apparent glee of the billboard, with
the traumatic expressions of the individuals. Although black and white, the image uses a wide
range of light and dark, going from the bright white of the bags and billboard, to the deep darks
of the coats and few of the glum faces. In between these two extremes, there are varying shades of
light and dark in the billboard and surrounding scene. Finally, the emphasis is placed on the people,
the victims of the Louisville flood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chapter Eight Of The American Era
Chapter eight speaks of the growth of the American empire , using political manipulation to control
the south. During the reconstruction of the South, many Southerners felt less aided and crippled
further due to taxes, political reformation, and of course the loss of slave labor. In terms of
political corruption, the Southern states were forced back into the union but were denied
representation in the Union, and used political control to rob the states financially. Taking the votes
of the newly freed blacks also created a tension with white and black relations that last to even
today, commonly from the Ku Klux Klan. If anything, the attempt to create stability to the war torn
South ended up making things worse in both the North and South. Chapter nine is discussing how
Lincoln s true legacy is placed, most notably the construction of the American System suggested by
Henry Clay. With his presidency, Lincoln threatens that he will attack any state that fails to collect
enough funds for its protectoral tariffs. Lincoln also issued large sums of money to the construction
of transcontinental railroad lines. Finally, he forced the commission of the much needed national
bank, the backbone of the American System his idol planned out. The tenth chapter speaks of the
attack Lincoln committed on federalism, destroying the right of secession to force the South back
into the Union. It sums up everything Lincoln did; opposed the equality of even free blacks,
attacked the South to

Analysis Of Nomi Nickel
Upon reading the first page, I knew this would be a good book to read. The story started ______.
The writing style is in the first person told from the perspective of Nomi Nickel and reads similar
to a memoir. This is effective because it helps the reader to step inside the main characters head to
view their thoughts and helps the reader to understand the characters actions. We are able to view
the shaping of the character through the characters thoughts when events happen. Like when, Nomi
did such and such this told the audience that she is a person who ______. The first ten chapters
give us a look into Nomi Nickels past, her opinions, and thoughts. As a result, I can see why nomi
turned from a strict religious follower to a rebellious teenager. They show the transition of her
thoughts from a straight edge Mennonitefollower to a rebellious teenager. Miriam Toews has a dry
sense of humor that is thrown into Nomi s everyday activities. This keeps the book interesting and
is a surprise when it happens, such as when the garbage men throw out Ray s hutch, not only was
this unexpected but Ray s reaction was unforeseen. Rather than express his thoughts or feelings on
what happened, Ray shuts himself in his room. This is seen as a childlike reaction rather than an
adult, as a result this sets the tone for Ray and Nomi s relationship. In the town, many of the teens
represent a character foil. On Saturday nights they go out drinking, partying, having sex, and on
Sunday they return

The Cold War Period ( 1945-1991 )
Since the Cold War period (1945 1991) the international community has faced a plethora of
challenges, none greater than the current, and rapidly growing threat of climate change. In this
essay, climate change will be acknowledged as a legitimate phenomenon, which is presently faced
by the global population. Described as a shift in the Earth s weatherpatterns over a time scale
spanning longer than a decade, climate changeis directly related to the variation in quantities of
extreme weatherevents worldwide. This paper will specifically argue on the consequences of these
extreme weather events which have the potential to destabilise and weaken nations. Along with
prospectively injuring the lives of many civilians and forcing them to flee their State, in search of
safety in that of neighbouring countries, this resulting in the security threat and crisis of climate
refugees. Corresponding to these threats is the challenge of cooperation under anarchy, as climate
change is that of a global commons concern. Climate change possesses the ability to significantly
pose a threat to all humans, and in a world of international anarchy. Compiling with States and
Nations looking to further their own agenda, it presents another dimension of complexity, which
showcases the difficulties, need and importance of addressing what is known to be the most
significant international relation issue of our time.

The Causes And Impacts Of British Petroleum
On April 20, 2010, British Petroleum s (BP) offshore drilling rig, the Deepwater Horizon,
exploded and caused the largest accidental marine oil spill in history, discharging five million
barrels of oil into the ocean over a period of three months. During this accident, eleven men
working on the oil rig perished and seventeen others were injured severely. This crisis caused major
destruction to marine wildlife caused economic harm on fishing and tourism industries and was a
public relations nightmare for British Petroleum(Crandall, Parnell Spillan, 2013). This event was
horrendous; I remember the devastation that was left in the wake of this tragedy.
Beginning in the 1980 s, offshore oil production showed to be a solution for the United States
energy issues and national security. In the beginning, the wells were in shallow water, but once
these wells were dry, drilling in the deeper water began. Although there were drawbacks, such as
the difficulty to drill and operate a well at such tremendous depths and because of these depths
robots would have to troubleshoot maintenance problems instead of humans. Additionally, in
deep waters, special drilling rigs are needed. There are two types of drilling rigs, the drillship,
and the semi submersible. The Deepwater Horizon was a semi submersible rig that was used to
excavate the well on the Macondo slope in the Gulf of Mexico. Once the excavation was done,
another rig would arrive to extract the oil. Companies like British

Examples Of Figurative Language In Catcher In The Rye
What is the author s style? In this case, Salinger s style is based on the many topics of literature,
including the three basic elements, which are diction, syntax and figurative language. The Catcher
In The Rye is a very eye catching book that talks about a young man named Holden, who got
expelled from his school, Pencey Prep. Salinger speaks through the eyes of Holden Caulfield. His
styleis portrayed by showing the distinctive way he uses language compared to other authors.
In this novel, Salinger shows the diction mainly during the dialogues between the characters. The
diction of The Catcher In The Rye is informal due to the different types of colloquial used
throughout the story. An example of this colloquial diction in the book was when Stradlater told
Holden to hurry up in this way, Why don tcha? I will, in minute time. (Stradlater, p.32) We can
see that Stradlater uses a type of slang language as in don tcha. This shows the diction of the story
and how it gives us a feel for what Salinger was trying to do to catch the reader s attention.
This novel also shows us many examples of imagery and symbolism. Imagery gives us a picture
of what is happening in that scene of the story. Imagery gives the reader a realistic look of it.
Symbolism just shows an object or something in that book that represents something special to one
of the characters or even the author. These both can affect the author s style by setting the mood of
the story. In this novel, there was an

betrayal as a recurring theme which is highlighted throughout the book. The existence of fear causes
individual character s betrayal to the others as the government controls every aspect of the society

in the recent days in Egypt. The Salafeyeen have been around and they are very few still. It is not
long until the cancer is spread everywhere. Numerous terrorist tribes have eventually been spread
all over the world. The Muslim Brotherhood has created a private group in each country who follow
their plan. Therefore, every so often, the nation receives news about occurring devastations they

Crisis In The Dine
Prologue Before I tell you about myself, I should inform you about the crisis occurring in the
DinГ©, my homeland. The Americans, whom we call bilagГЎanas, have entered our DinГ©. My
father, a warrior, was summoned to defend the homeland yet was killed in battle. The chief, Hastiin
Manuelito, announced that the DinГ© was lost in the war and the bilagГЎanas were sending us off
to somewhere else. For 8,000 years, the Navajo people have lived in this very homeland which the
bilagГЎanas have taken from us. Our people were helpless. We were forced to walk 500 miles, to
our reservation. I saw my people die of starvation, exhaustion, and disease. We are kept in a 40
square mile reservation, all 9,000 of us, in a place called Bosque Redondo, conveniently

Doolittle Vs Pygmalion
In the play Pygmalion and the atrocious movie made by Hallmark, The Makeover, there are many
similarities and differences. The original play Pygmalion is set in London in the early 1900s.
However, its modern counterpart, The Makeover, is set in modern day Boston. This is one of the
many changes of these two, in addition to a number of parallels. In Pygmalionthe main characters
are Henry Higgins, Colonel Pickering, and Eliza Doolittle. In The Makeover the main characters
are Hannah Higgins, Colleen Pickering, and Elliot Doolittle. This names are extremely similar to
that of the original play, but the genders have been reversed. Also instead of being teachers of
phonetics, Higgins and Pickering are educational advisors, as well as campaign... Show more

Eliza hears how happy Henry and the Colonel were that it was over. Elliot hears Hannah and
Colleen saying that they can just drop him off at a Bruins game with a case of beer. This is when
both of the Doolittles begin to feel used in their respective stories. Then Doolittle argues with
Higgins about how they were treated, mainly about how Higgins treats Doolittle like someone from
the gutter, and that Pickering treats them like a lady or gentleman. After the fight Higgins and
Doolittle both realize that they actually need each. However, this is where another difference is. In
the play, Eliza will marry Freddy, while in the movie Elliot and Hannah end up

Sir Gawain Archetype
The common archetype of the knight is seen as Christian and chivalric, yet by the end of the text,
Gawain is neither. The narrative begins by portraying Gawain as the epitome of medieval
chivalric values, being respectful towards Arthur and Gweniviere. However, by the end of the
text, we quickly realise his morals are not so clear cut, as he lies and steals from his host. In fact, it
is suggested that Gawainis neither Christian nor chivalric, characteristics tested within the Green
chapel.
Christianity held a central position within Medieval society, its importance being highlighted with
the Green Chapel. This location tests Gawain s morals and ultimately brings to light his cowardice
and misogynistic attitude after he is forced to realise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before finding the castle, he prays to Mary that ho him rede to ride And whose him to sum wone
primarily because he wishes for somewhere to go to church and partake in mass. Mary is a
repeated figure within the poem, appearing on the inside of his shield so he can glance at her
when he requires guidance and strength. Yet, in later parts of the tale, this appears ironic, as
Mary is associated with loyalty and virginity. Gawain was hardly loyal to the promise he made
with his host, refusing to give away the girdle breaking the essential chivalric laws. Furthermore,
as we learn that Gawain is experienced in lufttalking it becomes apparent that he may not be as
sexually pure as we are lead to believe. This provides another aspect on Gawain, as the fashionable
wealthy man of promiscuous pursuits. These hidden values of his directly contradict both Christian
values of purity and chivalric values of respect, illustrating him as the unknightly knight. However,
his status of a knight could be solely due to his own birth, as he is King Arthur s nephew. Therefore,
we can assume that he did not suffer through any trials or perform any great deed in order to
assert his status as a knight. This could potentially be the reason as to why his morals are less than
perfect, and it could also be possible that this trial is his

Goal Analysis
The underlying values I had to support the goal to exercise at least twice a week was
perseverance, patience, and willpower. All these values are necessary for me to achieve this goal
as I m generally a laid back person and I would not do anything without a little push. Sam, my
roommate and best friend, is usually the one to get me off my butt.
The specific affects, behaviors, and cognitions I have been dealing with widely varied with my
schedule. My affects for this goal were I was tired after a long day of classes or I felt frustrated
that I could not reach the mini goals I set for myself. My behaviors were usually running on the
treadmill and walking to the McCann gym, which takes a lot of forcing to go. My cognitions
were that I was not getting fit so I was wasting my time, and if I get healthier, I don t get to eat
what I want. These factors hinder my progress in achieving my goal as they don t make me feel
good and keep from doing them.
Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nutrition is a major factor in why I did not want to work out as I like to eat anything sweet
without a second thought so I have to eat less of them. Using and withholding rewards could go
with nutrition as I should have not tried to go all at once to work out with a solid plan and is why
it backfired. Being in the moment matters as it can help focus on the present where exercise matters
the most as opposed to thinking about the future straight on.
Procrastination got in the way of achieving my goal as I always put exercise as last in my list of
things to get done as I would rather relax with friends or play video games. I m a major
procrastinator despite being extremely organized. It s almost an oxymoron, but procrastination
keeps me from achieving most, if not all, of my goals. It s an aspect of myself I want to get rid of,
but it will take some time to unlearn this

Personal Note On Self Love And Confidence
When I was younger I didn t know too much about self love and what it really meant. For as long
as I could remember I was always the heavier set girl with the gap. I was the funny girl, the friend
to all the guys. I was raised by my dad and brother, now don t get me wrong my mother was in
my life but she missed my first homecoming , my first crush , even my first period. I did not
realize until I was a little older how much not having a woman around would and could even
affect me.Without her being there I didn t know how to value myself. Now at 23 I am just
starting to get a grasp on what self love and confidence is. I would say that I really started to
struggle with self confidence when I got to high school. When I was in middle school, I had a blast,
but once I entered high school everything changed. I went into it thinking these friendships
would last forever. Boy, was I wrong. I thought these years turn those friendships I had into the
sisters I never had. All it did was give me false ideas of self esteem and depression. I would go to
school daily and walk down the hall with some of the prettiest, most popular girls and guys of
each grade, wishing I was them. High school made me feel like because I wasn t skinny with a
perfect smile and the nicest clothes I wasn t pretty. Guys would always go for my friends who
were smaller than me , didn t have a gap , or wild hair. While in high school I begin to develop
insecurities about my weight and smile.I started to let

  • 2. The Slavery Of The Nineteenth Century Essay When people today consider the lives of the slaves of the nineteenth century it is likely that their thoughts would be focused on stereotypical southern plantation slaves. This picture is not all encompassing, however. Slave experiences differed across the south as well as between the north and south and produced a variety of different experiences. Sojourner Truth was born with the name Isabella Baumfree as a slave in upper New York. Truth was sold between a variety of masters, separated from her husband, and eventually escapes slaveryin 1826 shortly before New York emancipated all of its slaves. After spending several years of taking care of her family, Truth began to speak as an advocate for abolition and women s rights at conferences and events. Her speech When WomanGets Her Rights Man Will Be Right was delivered at the annual meeting of the American Equal Rights Association in New York in 1867. By this time, even the slaves of the south have been effectively emancipated and the formerly enslaved have begun to search for equal rights beyond their basic freedom. Her audience is presumably thirsting for further progress so her speech serves to address her hopes for what is to come and for whom. She tells those in attendance of how she is not done battling for equal rights in the wake of emancipation. The issues she highlights are wage inequality and universal suffrage, which she puts into the broader context of the ultimate advantages of giving women the rights that they ... • 3. The Impact Of Communism And Capitalism Stephanie LeBlanc Professor Wesley Austin Economics 201 16 October 2016 The Impact of Communism There are faults within both communism and capitalism, but sometimes one can even effect the other. This paper will explore what the possible connection is between North Korea s communistic economy and how it may have impacted South Korea s capitalistic economy. At the end of the World War II in 1945, two separate regimes emerged on the Korean peninsula to replace what was once the colonial government. The United States military government took over the southern half, now known as South Korea, while communist Russia set up a Korean leadership in the northern half, now known as North Korea. The political division meant sudden disruption of trade with both Japan and within Korea, causing serious economic issues. While trying to control the chaos that happened after the de colonization, the United States military government privatized properties previously owned by the Japanese government and civilians. During World War II the economy of the Korean peninsula was in absolute shambles. Despite all the measures taken by both the new South Korean government and the United States military to help the country get back on its feet, The Korean Warthen soon broke out in 1950, killing one and half million people and destroying about one quarter of capital stock. After the war, South Korea followed most other post World War II countries examples and tried to help create economic growth by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Details in Abbey Road such as the bare feet, the cigarette and John Lennon s white suit led fans to believe Paul McCartney was dead and had been replaced by an imposter (B. Myint). This also boosted the popularity of the image itself and overall, the album. Paul is also the only member leading with his right which shows his separation from the whole group. • 5. Analysis Of Freda In The Dew Talker Question Two Choose three characters from the novel The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat (they must not be from the same section) that resonate for you and explain why each of these characters speaks to you. Explain why Danticat includes each character in the novel, in other words, what is their purpose; why is this character here? Identify and discuss the issues that Danticat is using this character to explore and how does she achieve this? The Dew Breaker presented many interesting characters, so it was difficult for me to decide on just three. The obvious choice would have been the Dew Breaker himself, but I decided to forgo him and discuss three other less dominate figures in the novel. I chose these three women because of their trials and tribulations, and tremendous strength to overcome their past. For this question, I will write about Freda, in The Funeral Singer, Aunt Estine, in Night Talkers, and Anne, in The Book of Miracles. Freda The Funeral Singer Freda is the example of strength and determination in this story. I admire that quality, especially in a woman in the 1970 s. It was more challenging in that decade for a woman to be taken seriously, so as a consequence, most of the time, nothing was said, and you kept quiet. This character was chosen to be the narrator of this story. Along with her other two friends, she tells her compelling story about her life and the reason why she left Haiti to come to live in New York. She has triumphed over the ... In Gallipoli, Peter Weir explores the hard journeys the young Australians had to endure. Because the soldiers hadn t any idea what they were getting themselves into, when they arrived the repercussions were tremendous. The journey through Australia, to Egypt and then to Turkey was not pleasant for the young soldiers because they were all so far from the places they knew and it was such a long, hard journey. • 7. The Heart Of Blood Cells It should be common knowledge that red blood cells are one of the most important details of the body, but unfortunately, that is not the case. Most people believe that the heart makes blood because it is common knowledge the heart is known as the main component of the body. However, the bone marrow in the body is what produces the red bloodcells, platelets, and white blood cells. The general population may also believe that having more than the normal count of white blood cells could be beneficial to the immune system. Nonetheless, having more than the normal count could be diagnosed as a cancer. On the other hand, there is a bone marrowdisease that leads to a rise in the number of blood cells called Polycythemia Vera (PV) which is usually found in adults over age forty. Polycythemia Vera (PV) is not an uncommon disease. Even though it is regularly found in older adults from age 40 to 60, it can also be found in people even younger. Statistical data indicate an incidence of 1 to 2 per 100,000 per year, which increases with age (Najean and Rain Par.2). The biggest effect of this disease is on the cardiovascular system and because of that, it has a direct impact on the quality of life for the patient and is quite expensive to treat. The Polycythemia Vera Study Group, the France division, was proposed an experiment to try different treatments on individuals who had the disease with ages sixty five and older. Photography has been used as an exploitative tool, an explorative tool, and an artistic tool. A photograph can be a snapshot of time, a record, a detail, a shift, a perspective, an emotion. In curating photography, I had to learn how to create conversations and comparisons between images, whilst simultaneously letting each work retain its individuality. There is no one meaning in a photograph. The intrinsically challenging task was to provide points of entry into the works and elucidate the broad theme of the exhibition, whilst allowing counter narratives and alternative readings to exist. THE PRELIMINARY PROCESS Working with an established collection like The University of AucklandArt Collection, curators need to work creatively in order to produce an exhibition that is both innovative and adequately represents the collection. The University of Auckland Collection includes approximately 140 photographs that are situated around the various campuses and storage facilities. With such a range to choose from, we approached the task in a practical way. We initially surveyed the works and found a broad theme emerging images of architecture and nature. Due to the range of locations housing the pieces, it was important to then establish the works that could be transported to the venue in time, and from these, we selected a more specific theme. The Collection was established in 1966 with works from Colin McCahon and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Hall, pg. 88) The famous last words is a clear indication of the doomed future of Rob Hall, but it also shows how courageous he was throughout the whole expedition. In Into Thin Air , by Jon Krakauer, Rob Hall demonstrates time and time again his courage by showing nothing but confidence in getting his clients to the summit, by waiting for Doug Hansen at the summit, and by how long he actually stayed up on the mountain. First, Rob Hall shows courage by being confident in his ability to get his clients up the mountain. With so many incompetent people on the mountain, Rob said with a frown one evening in late April, I think it s pretty unlikely that we ll get through this season without something bad happening up high. This might have convinced the climbers that they were safe as long as they were guided by Rob Hall. When he showed that confidence, it assures the climbers that they are in the best hands possible. His stunning record of getting people to summit was probably directly related to the way he thought of his climbingskills. As the years passed by, it all changed. The surge of globalization has needed the collaboration among people of different backgrounds and cultures. Nowadays, organizations are now creating a diverse workforce beyond just gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. Many U.S. organizations are embracing women, ethnic minorities, and foreign born employees more than ever before in history. Diversity calls for organizations to recognize individuals for themselves, regardless their designated groups. This paper will be focusing in three different parts of diversity in the workforce: type of organizations, the benefits cost, and measurements taken by CEOs to promote diversity. In today s society, due to the great diversity, organizations should be multicultural to allow all members of different cultural backgrounds to contribute and achieve their full potential. According to Cox (1991), there three different types of organizations including monolithic, plural, and multicultural organization. The monolithic organization is demographically and culturally homogeneous. According to Cox, the most important fact about this type of organization is that there is minimal structural integration. Stager defines the term globalization as a set of social processes that are thought to transform our present social condition into one of globality. Does Africa have any history? Have the people of Africa made any significant contribution to humanity? With the knowledge that the birthplace of humankind is Africa(Sanz, 2012, p.6), it does make one wonder how a place that is home to millions of people was not able to establish a civilised system until the European interactions that started in the 16th century. In this piece, I will explain how the European imperialistic distortions of Africa s past has led to this general belief that Africa has no history. I will also be using examples of some of the achievements of ancient Africa, to show the vital part they have played in the advancement of humanity and civilisation for thousands of years. Finally, I will be looking at the controversy surrounding the ancestral heritage of ancient Egypt, Kemet, and how this view has changed over time. It is important to note that Eurocentrism is not some sinister entity or collective, orchestrating a master plan to brainwash everyone. There are positives and negatives to having a Eurocentric viewpoint, but for the sake of this piece I will be focusing on the points of western culture that had an influence on African history. • 22. History Of The Writs Of Assistance Essay When discussing the Writs of Assistance, we must first understand why they were created and why James Otis believed they were infringing upon citizens basic rights. Writs of Assistance were first authorized by English Parliament and King Charles II in 1660, which later was issued by Exchequer of Pleas, a court in Englandthat dealt with cases surrounding the principles of natural and common law. Writs of Assistance were used in both English and colonial governments at the time, and were created to grant law enforcement officials the right to search homes suspected of holding smuggled goods without the need for a warrant. A Writ of Assistance was commonly called a writ of restitution or a writ of possession depending on the need for the writ, whether it be a eviction or a search for goods. During the time that Charles II served as king of england, the legality of Writ of Assistance was questioned in 1761, during the attempted renewal of the law. Highlighting the sense of doubt in postmodernist texts, one may find that some things, such as religion, cannot be explained. It is being aware that positive things will never be satisfiable enough to gratify those around you. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a Colombian author, illustrated the ideal picture of solitude in Latin Americathough his words he expressed in his Nobel Prize speech. Initially, Latin America endures solitude as a result from the negative stereotypes they face from other countries based on inferred connotations from past actions. • 30. Truth Behind The Mirror Reflections no longer hold truth when encased by a mirror. There is darkness behind the glass that seeps into people s subconscious. As it lingers inside them, it does not let up on its firm grasp on the victim. This demonstrates how society s views can have a negative effect on an individual. Outside pressure can become an overbearing force that is placed on individuals. People should not try to capsize a stable boat when there is nothing wrong with it. People are too focused on what makes them different from society, and how that is a negative thing. However, being unique is what makes them beautiful. Comparing murky pond water and a crystal clear mirror allows people to see the distortions in themselves and how everything is not surface deep. When looking into a murky pond or a clear mirror, people perceive a distorted version of themselves. A pond drenched by pouring rain soon causes the overflowing waters to escape from the banks and loosens the rich, black soil. The next day, the cloudy pond is consumed by the disrupted mud which dims the reflection that is cast when the on looker is looking in. As the mud rises to the surface, the image people have of themselves become muddled. Mud that is now stirred in with the water will not let the sediment float back to the pond s bottom which makes it appear that the once clear water will forever remain as a diluted pond. Even the moss that is scattered on the surface limits the persons view, and capsizes on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The control is water not having salt, and the constant variables are the amount of water in each cup and the objects. The independent variable is the amount of salt added in the cup. The dependent variable is the height of the water and the densityof the water. Background Research How do objects float on water? The density and buoyancy are properties of matter that determine how objects float on water. Density shows the amount of mass in the volume of an object. • 33. Louisville Flood Victims By Margaret Bourke-White Description: Margaret Bourke White. Louisville Flood Victims. 1937. Photograph. Analysis: Margaret Bourke White utilizes the actual horizontal lines of the billboard, as well as the implied lines of the people s heads. The repetition of the people along with the faces on the billboard, forcefully move the attention horizontally to the right of the photograph. This, in turn, makes the viewer anticipate what is coming next. Although we know that the people are in a state of motion, there is a sense of stillness as if the moment will never end. At first glance, the balance appears to be somewhat symmetrical, but looking further, one notices the small cluster of children in the bottom left corner, casting the balance as asymmetrical. It also appears as if there is a downward slope going from the furthermost right, to the furthermost left of the image. The colors seem varied and dark, contrasting the coats of the individuals with the stark white bags, and the intrusive bright colors of the billboard, this creates a contrast in the mood of the apparent glee of the billboard, with the traumatic expressions of the individuals. Although black and white, the image uses a wide range of light and dark, going from the bright white of the bags and billboard, to the deep darks of the coats and few of the glum faces. In between these two extremes, there are varying shades of light and dark in the billboard and surrounding scene. During the reconstruction of the South, many Southerners felt less aided and crippled further due to taxes, political reformation, and of course the loss of slave labor. In terms of political corruption, the Southern states were forced back into the union but were denied representation in the Union, and used political control to rob the states financially. Taking the votes of the newly freed blacks also created a tension with white and black relations that last to even today, commonly from the Ku Klux Klan. If anything, the attempt to create stability to the war torn South ended up making things worse in both the North and South. Chapter nine is discussing how Lincoln s true legacy is placed, most notably the construction of the American System suggested by Henry Clay. With his presidency, Lincoln threatens that he will attack any state that fails to collect enough funds for its protectoral tariffs. Lincoln also issued large sums of money to the construction of transcontinental railroad lines. Rather than express his thoughts or feelings on what happened, Ray shuts himself in his room. • 39. Examples Of Figurative Language In Catcher In The Rye What is the author s style? In this case, Salinger s style is based on the many topics of literature, including the three basic elements, which are diction, syntax and figurative language. The Catcher In The Rye is a very eye catching book that talks about a young man named Holden, who got expelled from his school, Pencey Prep. Salinger speaks through the eyes of Holden Caulfield. His styleis portrayed by showing the distinctive way he uses language compared to other authors. In this novel, Salinger shows the diction mainly during the dialogues between the characters. The diction of The Catcher In The Rye is informal due to the different types of colloquial used throughout the story. An example of this colloquial diction in the book was when Stradlater told Holden to hurry up in this way, Why don tcha? I will, in minute time. (Stradlater, p.32) We can see that Stradlater uses a type of slang language as in don tcha. This shows the diction of the story and how it gives us a feel for what Salinger was trying to do to catch the reader s attention. This novel also shows us many examples of imagery and symbolism. Imagery gives us a picture of what is happening in that scene of the story. Imagery gives the reader a realistic look of it. Symbolism just shows an object or something in that book that represents something special to one of the characters or even the author. • 44. Sir Gawain Archetype The common archetype of the knight is seen as Christian and chivalric, yet by the end of the text, Gawain is neither. The narrative begins by portraying Gawain as the epitome of medieval chivalric values, being respectful towards Arthur and Gweniviere. However, by the end of the text, we quickly realise his morals are not so clear cut, as he lies and steals from his host. In fact, it is suggested that Gawainis neither Christian nor chivalric, characteristics tested within the Green chapel. Christianity held a central position within Medieval society, its importance being highlighted with the Green Chapel. This location tests Gawain s morals and ultimately brings to light his cowardice and misogynistic attitude after he is forced to realise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before finding the castle, he prays to Mary that ho him rede to ride And whose him to sum wone primarily because he wishes for somewhere to go to church and partake in mass. Mary is a repeated figure within the poem, appearing on the inside of his shield so he can glance at her when he requires guidance and strength. Yet, in later parts of the tale, this appears ironic, as Mary is associated with loyalty and virginity. Gawain was hardly loyal to the promise he made with his host, refusing to give away the girdle breaking the essential chivalric laws. Furthermore, as we learn that Gawain is experienced in lufttalking it becomes apparent that he may not be as sexually pure as we are lead to believe. This provides another aspect on Gawain, as the fashionable wealthy man of promiscuous pursuits. These hidden values of his directly contradict both Christian values of purity and chivalric values of respect, illustrating him as the unknightly knight. However, his status of a knight could be solely due to his own birth, as he is King Arthur s nephew. Therefore, we can assume that he did not suffer through any trials or perform any great deed in order to assert his status as a knight. This could potentially be the reason as to why his morals are less than perfect, and it could also be possible that this trial is his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Goal Analysis The underlying values I had to support the goal to exercise at least twice a week was perseverance, patience, and willpower. All these values are necessary for me to achieve this goal as I m generally a laid back person and I would not do anything without a little push. Sam, my roommate and best friend, is usually the one to get me off my butt. The specific affects, behaviors, and cognitions I have been dealing with widely varied with my schedule. My affects for this goal were I was tired after a long day of classes or I felt frustrated that I could not reach the mini goals I set for myself. My behaviors were usually running on the treadmill and walking to the McCann gym, which takes a lot of forcing to go. My cognitions were that I was not getting fit so I was wasting my time, and if I get healthier, I don t get to eat what I want. These factors hinder my progress in achieving my goal as they don t make me feel good and keep from doing them. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nutrition is a major factor in why I did not want to work out as I like to eat anything sweet without a second thought so I have to eat less of them. Using and withholding rewards could go with nutrition as I should have not tried to go all at once to work out with a solid plan and is why it backfired. Being in the moment matters as it can help focus on the present where exercise matters the most as opposed to thinking about the future straight on. Procrastination got in the way of achieving my goal as I always put exercise as last in my list of things to get done as I would rather relax with friends or play video games. I m a major procrastinator despite being extremely organized. It s almost an oxymoron, but procrastination keeps me from achieving most, if not all, of my goals. It s an aspect of myself I want to get rid of, but it will take some time to unlearn this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Personal Note On Self Love And Confidence When I was younger I didn t know too much about self love and what it really meant. For as long as I could remember I was always the heavier set girl with the gap. I was the funny girl, the friend to all the guys. I was raised by my dad and brother, now don t get me wrong my mother was in my life but she missed my first homecoming , my first crush , even my first period. I did not realize until I was a little older how much not having a woman around would and could even affect me.Without her being there I didn t know how to value myself. Now at 23 I am just starting to get a grasp on what self love and confidence is. I would say that I really started to struggle with self confidence when I got to high school. When I was in middle school, I had a blast, but once I entered high school everything changed. I went into it thinking these friendships would last forever. Boy, was I wrong. I thought these years turn those friendships I had into the sisters I never had. All it did was give me false ideas of self esteem and depression. I would go to school daily and walk down the hall with some of the prettiest, most popular girls and guys of each grade, wishing I was them. High school made me feel like because I wasn t skinny with a perfect smile and the nicest clothes I wasn t pretty. Guys would always go for my friends who were smaller than me , didn t have a gap , or wild hair. While in high school I begin to develop insecurities about my weight and smile.I started to let ...
