Significance Of The Teutonic Knights
Teutonic Knights:
The Significance of the Battle of Tannenberg/Grunwald 1410
The history of the Teutonic Knights is well known throughout history as a military and religious order
that flew a white cross flag. According to Taylor, the flag that represented the Order was from the
Knights of Saint John, depicting a white cross with a black background (p. 340). The Order began
their legacy approximately in 1190 during the 3rd Crusade where their mission was to safeguard the
Hospital of St. Mary of the Teutons in the Holy Land. The reasons for the creation of the Teutonic
Knights was due to soldiers that were fighting battles were stricken with disease and sickness;
diminishing their numbers. Without having proper hospitals in foreign lands, it was imperative to ...

Hofbauer tells a story of the Order marching all night to surprise the flanking Lithuania Polish army
where they finally met up in the area of Tannenberg/Grunwald. Hofbauer further stated the Order was
exhausted from marching all night and were standing in the sun for hours the following day with full
battle gear; however, the opposing forces was standing in the cool forest waiting for the battle to start
(p. 35 37). Hofbauer additional relates that on the right flank of the battlefield, the Lithuanians
positioned themselves for a tactic that may have been the deciding factor in this battle. Once the Order
made contact, the Lithuanians broke formation and performed a planned retreat. This maneuver
suggested the Order was winning and they gave chase to the fleeing enemy. During the chase, the
Orders formation became week, sporadic, and unorganized allowing the Polish soldiers to fill the gaps
and destroy the Order (p. 36 37). The map of the Tannenberg/Grunwald battle depicts the battle

The Perfect Family of the 1950s Versus the Present Time of Families
Is it worth going back to the 1950s and experience the workplace of woman and men going to War or
staying in the present time. Many people in today s society see the morals and values of the past of the
fifties. Nevertheless, the fifties had its nuclear family to where everyone was set for in life already.
The woman became homemakers and men worked at an occupation. In the 1950s men were going to
War, so the mother had to do both work and raise the family. However, after the War the woman
wanting to continue to work, but the men were overpowering the woman in the past. In today s culture
everyone works and raise a family together. From the past to the present time of the 1950s the culture
has changed. The woman finally got rights to do more activities now then it was in the fifties.
Therefore, people have opinions to go back to the past to experience of what had happened to the
nuclear family. America has changed by the culture and the environment from the 1950s to the present
time of men and woman raising a family.
American culture in the 1950s was based on nuclear family. It was set of a perfect family for example,
men go to work and support the family when women stayed home to raise a family. The people in the
1950s who raise their families had morals to have a value of having an ideal family. The women in the
nuclear family had a commitment of taking care of their children and staying at home as being a

Sports Specialisation Essay
Specialisation can be divided into early or late. Diversification is included of a number of sports for
the athletes that specialise later. Diversification early on allows the athlete to explore different sports
growing mentally, physically, cognitively, and socially in a positive environment.
There have been studies conducted that show that in the Division 1 NCAA, majority of athletes were
more likely to have played multiple sports in high school and that their first more focused on sport,
was different from the on they play in college.
Current evidence suggests that delaying sports specialization for majority of sports until around the
age of 15 16 will minimize possible risks and lead to a higher likelihood of higher athletic success

These skills can then be transferred over to their primary sport if they decide to specialize which can
lead to an increased performance and skill level and they will not as much deliberate practice to
acquire expertise in their primary sport.
Studies do show that deliberate play within the primary sport is crucial for development to obtain elite
status
Athletes during late adolescence have the physical, cognitive, emotional, social and motor skills
needed to invest into specialised training as they understand the benefits and costs of intense focus on
the one sport and are able to make independent decision about investing in one sport.
Athletes who specialise too soon are at the risk of physical, social and emotional problems. Athletes
may become socially isolated from their peers and may alter relationships with family
It is common to see specialised athletes with overuse injuries which result in possible time away from
their primary sport and in extreme cases can cause early retirement from the sport
The risk of injury can result from many factors such as training volume, competitive level and

A Successful Black Man In August Wilson s Radio Golf
In the play, Radio Golf, author August Wilson address the idea of the working black man. He contrasts
this characterization of working black men with unemployed black men to show their progression.
Wilson challenges the idea that to be a successful black man, simply means making as much money as
possible. The character, Harmond begins the play by representing the ideal black man. Harmond was
highly educated having graduated from an Ivy League school, married, a business owner, wealthy, and
involved in local government. From afar, he looked like the ideal representation of what a successful
black man should be. Harmond works for himself and readers are meant to view this as honorable.
However, as the play progresses, issues arise with Harmond s status as a successful working man.
Readers find out that Harmond s success is due in large part to his father s success, thus it seems less
like he earned his status and respect by himself. Additionally, it comes to light that not all of his
business proceedings are legal. In fact, readers find out that he has possessed houses in an illegal
manner. Readers see that Harmond s morals are questionable and are meant question the idea of the
successful working black man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roosevelt is not portrayed as honorable as Harmond initially was. Roosevelt makes it clear that
morals have no place within his business life. His character wants to attain money and success through
whatever means necessary. He gains a position at the bank that his boss didn t think he deserved,
agreed to be a pawn for a white man so he could make some money, willfully ignores the fact that he
and Harmond acquired property illegally, and in the end turns his back on his partner and friend in
order to help a white man and earn himself some additional money. In addition to his immoral
business life, Roosevelt speaks of wanting to cheat on his wife, leading readers to further question his

Project Management Techniques And Control Systems Essay
Project management techniques
Introduction
Project management is a challenging task with many complex responsibilities. Fortunately, there are
many techniques available to assist with accomplishing the tasks and hence executing the
responsibilities. Such techniques include project planning, scheduling and controlling. The elements
that need to be planned, scheduled and controlled are time, cost and quality. Different methods have
therefore to be used in cost planning and control systems, time planning, scheduling and controlling
systems, and quality planning and control system. Organisational techniques will enable the project
resources such as labour, material and plant to be ordered at the right time and when directing the
resources for work it will be ideally stated. A chain of command will exist when organisational
structure is in place (Oberlender, 1993). These techniques have sprung up at an ever increasing rate.
When perusing any engineering or project management magazine or browsing on the internet one will
be amazed by the number of software packages offering various project management techniques
implemented through project management software.
According to Reiss (1992), a range of project management techniques and concept are applied to a
wide range of tasks that really do not have any singularity. The techniques and tools have spread into
areas where there is a degree of repetition. Walker (2002) agrees with this sentiment, and states that
these techniques are

The Alamo In Blood And Memory Summary
A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and Memory . Randy Roberts, James S. Olson. New York:
Simon and Schuster New York, January 22, 2001. 356.
Events in history are unchangeable, once they have happened there is no way of changing the past.
However, what can change is the perception of such events which in turns changes the sentiment.
When Randy Roberts and James S. Olson wrote A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and Memory
they changed the way the events of The Alamo could be viewed and thus exposing some truth about
the events that lead to what is known as the greatest battle in Texas independence history. Some key
ideas I kept in mind while reading this book and also writing this review include what the goals the

Randy Roberts graduated from Louisiana State University in 1978 and has been a distinguished
professor at Purdue for several years. Author of many books including Joe Louis: Hard Times Man
and A Team for America: The Army Navy Game that Rallied a Nation . His books are, naturally,
stories of important events in American history and the impact it had and continues to have on the
nation. James S. Olson, also a distinguished historian, graduated from Brigham Young University with
a BA in 1967 then went on to receive his PhD from New York University in 1972. Olson also received
a Pulitzer Prize nomination for his contribution to academics. He is now a remarkable professor at
Sam Houston University and has written acclaimed novels such as The United States in the Twentieth
Century. Vol. 1 and 2: America and co authored several novels with Roberts. John Wayne: American
and Where the Domino Fell: America and Vietnam are just a few of many notable books they have
worked on together. Roberts and Olson also tend to pull information from several different sources
such as other historians that have researched and specialize on this topic and along with prominently
known scholars close to them. This kind of research can make their novels, such as, A Line in the
Sand: The Alamo in Blood and Memory a factual tell of events with new questions towards the events
that pertain to the battle of the Alamo. Generally speaking, I believe these two professors know
exactly what happened in history during this time and are very qualified to write a novel on this

Her marriage was tuff, although she loved him, Henry was more in love with his mistress, Diane de
Poitiers, which he spent most of his time with. Diane gained a lot of influence in the governing of
France. This bothered Catherine, but she kept her personal feelings to herself.
She was mother of Francis ll, Charles lX, and Henry lll. Because of Henrys sudden death in 1519 she
had to come to the forefront as her eldest son Francis was a sick and weakly boy . Henrys death also
plunged Catherine into the political society as mother of three, ready to be kings. When Francis only
ruled for 17 months died in 1560, Catherine played a key role in the reign of her second son, Charles
IX, who came to the throne at the age of ten. This allowed cathierine to become Queen Regent of
France, and she served until his death. She also continued to serve for her third son, Henry III.

The High Dynamic Range Compression Operator
4 METHODOLOGY HDR image given as an input with radiance map I^h, f (.) is the high dynamic
range compression operator computes the radiance map in a low dynamic range I^l = f (I^h). An
important goal of this method is to decrease the large radiance values and increase small ones. To
correctly keep the local structures, however, the monotonic mapping of radiance should be satisfied
regarding each pixel s neighborhood in a small local region, similar to the global tone mapping curves
monotone characteristic. Firstly, generate guidance map c according to eq (4) which indicates the area
of the input HDR image that should be enhanced or compressed, then divide input HDR image into
windows or blocks. Secondly, compare guidance map values in each window with threshold value.
Thirdly, determine if linear or nonlinear tone mapping method applied for selected window in image.
Then, if we describe the window w_i with pixel i in the center, the linear function is: I^l (j)=p_i I^h
(j)+q_i , j ∈w_i (1) A simple yet complete representation has been provided that satisfy the local
monotonic constraint. Control the mapping in different ways through the coefficients p_i and q_i
within the local window. The value of p represents the slope of the linear function while q determines
the base radiance level. The terms q and p directly control the local contrast as shown in Fig. 1. If p 1,
as shown in Fig. 1a, the local contrast is enhanced,

peaceful. Bismarck prevented bloodshed by creating the League of the Three Emperors. This was an
alliance between three monarchies, which were Germany, Russia and Austria Hungary. He saw this as
a means to isolate France and preserve both peace and conservative status quo (Tucker). If he did not
take this action, then France could have used Russia and Austria Hungary as allies. This would make
France more powerful than Germany militarily. The League of The Three Emperors eventually

They didn t have a good relationship with the Russians. This is demonstrated in the League of The
Three Emperors, which ended because of tension between the Austrian and Russian empire. However,
they had good relations with Germans because they had an alliance with them. This was called the

Gender Roles In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
Aside from their constant tendency to fall ill and die, Poe s upper class characters are united by their
portrayal as flawed. Oftentimes, the characters who are identified as being rude, deranged, immoral,
overconfident, idolaters, and even cruel, are the ones who belong to the upper class. For example, in
The Cask of Amontillado, Montresor wishes to kill the wealthy Fortunato because of a thousand
injuries and an insult. While neither the injuries nor the insult is mentioned, Fortunato is shown
insulting the intelligence of his acquaintance, Luchresi, by calling him an, ignoramus, and saying that
he, cannot tell Amontillado from sherry. Fortunato also implies that he believes Montresor to be
beneath him by saying that it is, impossible for the latter to belong to the Freemasons, and that the
mere claim is a jest. In The Fall of the House of Usher, the Usher family is stated to have frequently

honoured as it was, had put forth, at no period, any enduring branch, its last descendants, Roderick

burying his sister alive. The Masque of the Red Death offers a thousand and one examples of wealthy
and overconfident characters. Prince Prospero and his thousand hale and light hearted friends believe
that they can, bid defiance to contagion, by leaving their plague torn country for one of Prospero s,
castellated abbeys. Thinking that the, gates of iron, could somehow keep out disease, the characters
enjoy themselves and indulge in, all the appliances of pleasure. But, in the end, their overconfidence
has fatal results. The Red Death (the plague that they tried to escape) finds its way inside and kills

By the middle of the 1700 s, a significant organization took place. From New England to Georgia,
different groups of Baptists began to form churches. They had only one doctrinal requirement that
united them, i.e., the believer s baptism by full immersion in water; also, Baptists then had different
theological doctrinal beliefs. Notwithstanding, in the 1700 s, Baptist leaders sought to unify and
homogenize the Baptist theology; they founded colleges and formed associations. However, the cause
of religious liberty, was also a unanimous and significant characteristic that united the majority of
Baptists. Their participation within their communities distinguished from other denominations. The
Baptists were not contending for tolerance but for absolute religious liberty. Theirs demand was not
for their right only but for the right of all dissenters and non conformists as well. Some historians
affirm that religious liberty in America was accomplished due to the diligence of the American
Baptist, which now is proven to be the greatest contribution to American science and statecraft. 11
Significant Names of Baptist Leaders
New England marks the beginnings of the Baptist struggle for religious liberty. Baptist names such as:

The Price Of Persecution By Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye
The Price of Persecution
The plight of the weak against the powerful is one of the oldest and compelling stories that can be
told, and it has always been the story of race in the United States. Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye is a
candid look into the lives of African Americans in the early 1940 s, focusing on the drama surrounding
the coming of age of young girls. The debilitating effects of racism, sexism, and classism on children
and adults of different social statuses are explored through the stories of a number of families. By
illustrating a society in which each class elevates itself by oppressing those below them, Morrison
demonstrates how the cyclical nature of oppression can cripple a community and family for
generations. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

connection with the boys whose hardness... and wild blackness (87) he admires. However, he
eventually internalizes the message that the shade of his skin renders him superior to his peers and he
decides to avoid contact with them. Geraldine s obsession with pedantic distinctions between different
groups of black residents in Lorain leads her son and the whole next generation to preserve the biases
of their parents. The maltreatment practiced by those of mixed race has a real impact on those they
perceive as inferior. Maureen Peal is a wealthy mixed race girl that moves to Pecola s school. She

Maureen for her cute looks and popularity, is devastated. The repetition in Maureen s declaration
mirrors the constancy of society s message to young black girls like Pecola: she is not valuable, and it

An estimated number of sixty two thousand American citizens are restricted to living in shelters in
New York City alone, which also does not include those who are not living in the shelters. Giselle

website article titled Rejecting Low Expectations: Housing is the Answer. Published in 2017 by the

visual depictions of the issues being discussed. The accuracy of this article is further seen through its
use of citations, listed at the bottom of the page where each citation is used, for each statistic and
graph presented in the article, making the evidence used in the article credible. One source Routhier
used comes from the Metropolitan Council on Housing, which was used when discussing the lack of
affordable housing available in New York City. The article she used states, Many neighborhoods that
used to be affordable to people of modest means have seen rents skyrocket, and the only reason why
most long time tenants are able to stay in the communities where they set roots is because of our rent
regulation laws (Metropolitan Council on Housing). This directly connects with Routhier s argument
regarding unaffordable housing. The direct connections display both the credibility and accuracy of
the source. While the article s primary focus is the homeless population in New York City as of the
year 2017, it covers a vast number of variables involved. Such variables include individuals, families,
those living in shelters, and those who are not living in shelters. Each variable is covered through both

The Causes Of The Khmer Rouge
The Khmer Rouge carried out one of the most horrific genocides in the twentieth century. The nation
of Cambodia was in a near decade civil war between the Communist (Khmer Rouge) and the
monarchy and then the Khmer Republic. The Khmer Rouge won the civil war and controlled all of
Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they committed horrific crimes against their own
people. This genocidal regime was one of the worst events in the later years of the 1900s, and it is not
well talked about in schools. The Khmer Rouge movement started back in the 1940s when Cambodia
was fighting for freedom from the French government. Over the years, the Northern Vietnamese
influenced much of the group s practices and beliefs. They gained so much members during the Lon
Nol era because many Cambodian people lost family from the American bombings (whom Lon Nol
was allied with). Through fear and threats, the Khmer Rouge scared the people into moving into the
countryside. They abolished all things that have to do with capitalism. They brainwashed people into
starving the population, torturing the accused , and murdering any who oppose the Khmer Rouge way
of life and leadership. This led to widespread poverty of Cambodia, and the people learned to love and
respect everyone because of the hate shown to them during this horrific event. Many, til this day, still
do not share their stories of what happened during this time because they are scared to be reminded of
what was committed against them. That is why the country is still corrupt today because the two
decade old prime minister Hun Sen was an ex Khmer Rouge Soldier. The Khmer Rouge group was
created in the 1940s, but it was during the Vietnam War that the KR gained more power and became

Analysis Of The Article Anatomy Of The Medial Knee Essay
I was both satisfied and dissatisfied with FoxNews.com s portrayal of my work. First, the article did a
good job of publicizing (sensationalizing) my work by using the words discovery, discover and
discovered several times throughout the article. This type of promotion (although a misrepresentation)
generated a lot of attention and interest in my research, which encouraged scientific dialogue and
research of the knee ALL. Moreover, this information could benefit patients, orthopedic practitioners,
other researchers and government research institutions.
Second, the article did provide a link to the KU Leuven news article (which provided a more accurate
portrayal of my research) entitled, Surgeons describe new ligament in the human knee. This Ku
Leuven news article contains a link to my original research article entitled, Anatomy of the
anterolateral ligament of the knee. This gave the reader an opportunity to read my research and make
their own educated judgments and conclusions.
Third, FoxNews.com did accurately report that the ligament was named by the researchers:
anterolateral ligament (ALL). This is very important because the whole purpose of the research was to
standardize the definition of the ALL which would provide clarity and minimize confusion among
clinicians and researchers.
Finally, FoxNews.com did accurately report that Dr. Steven Claes and Dr. Johan Bellemens do work at
University Hospitals Leuven and have been conducting research into ACL tears

Essay on Symbollism in Goodman Brown
Symbollism in Goodman Brown The Symbolism in Nathan Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
begins before the story starts. The first sign of symbolism is in the title of the story. The word young is
used in saying that Mr. Brown is young in his marriage and in his maturity. The next word Goodman
was a term used in Hawthorne s day as a man under a gentleman. This fits Mr. Brown because he is no
one special, only to his friends and family.
Symbolism is strewn throughout the story in what seems like every word. In the beginning of the
story, the phrase Faith, as the wife was so aptly named shows that the word Faith is not only his wife s
name, rather it is also the Faith one must have to believe in religion. Mr. Brown s ... Show more

When he meets the devil, He is told that he is late. As if they were supposed to meet. This could be
related to people having there certain time to meet Death as it were. Mr. Brown does not question
there meeting, rather he says that Faith held him back. Faith is used again as a symbol. The first being
that his wife Faith held him back. The other being that faith in God held him back from going to the
Devil.
As Mr. Brown goes deeper in the forest with the Devil, he notices his staff which resembles a serpent.
This is obviously a literary allegory to the story of Adam and Eve in the bible in which a serpent, the
most slyest and keen of all animals, convinces Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. This seems like
a symbol where later on in the story, When Mr. Brown is deeper in the forest, he learns things about
the people in the town that he never knew, nor did he want to know.
As Mr. Brown goes farther into the forest with the Devil, the Devil begins to use people that Mr.
Brown knows to break him. First by saying that he was with his father while burning witches in earlier
years, also by showing him Goody Close in the forest picking up the staff that the Devil throws down
at her feet without any argument. Seeing this breaks him but he still is strong. Finally he hears the
voices of Deacon Gookin and the minister. They are talking about going to a meeting deep within the
forest. Mr. Brown knows nothing of any church

No Name Woman, By Maxine Hong Kingston
In No Name Woman , Maxine Hong Kingston discusses a story her mother shared with her. It is about
Kingston s aunt who, while her husband was in America, became pregnant and committed suicide the
day of her illegitimate child s birth. Also included in the story is a raid, undertaken by neighbors and
other villagers, on the aunt s family and home. In order to fully understand the story, it is necessary to
know the historical context. Taking place in 1920s China, the instability, importance of the family, and
attitude towards women impact the final essay. Without taking those three things into account, one
cannot properly analyze Kingston s work.
Before 1924, when the incident takes place, China suffered numerous hardships. There was, for
example, the first Sino Japanese War, which was followed by the Boxer Rebellion only a few years
later. Then, in the span of only a couple of years, the Manchu Restoration and the May Fourth
Movement begin and end. Both of these are attempts at creating a new form of government and are
two of several examples depicting the instability of that time. In addition to that was the rise of the
Communist Party and the constant political infighting within the Republic of China. Overall, ... Show

Confucian beliefs placed women as subservient to men overall. They were meant to obey others in
their family unit, especially their husband, and this belief was only strengthened with the rise of neo
Confucianism. Because the villagers held these ideals, and Kingston s aunt was married, the reaction
to her infidelity was harsh. It also explains why everyone in the family treated the story of Kingston s
aunt as inherently shameful. Kingston s mother, for instance, insisted that nobody else should know
what happened for fear of judgment. The attitude towards women is also why Kingston assumes that
her aunt s child was a girl if the child were a boy, there would have been some hope of

The MiG 15 was a 33 by 33 foot fighter jet used mostly by the Chinese in the Chinese Civil War. The

Strategic Planning Should Not Be Underestimated
Introduction
The importance of strategic planning should not be underestimated. Without proper strategic planning
any organization is just waiting for unseen problems to interrupt normal business operations. Strategic
planning could be considered the backbone of the foundation of an organization. It is the glue which
links the organization s objectives to the customers themselves. Strategic planning helps the
organization in short term goals and perhaps more importantly determine the items need for term
success. The investment in strategic planning can be seen in specific elements which will aid in the
company s ability to grow as well as expand its market area. In addition to goal setting strategic
planning could be used to evaluate what may be beneficial to any organization s success process. This
means determining which avenues to use valuable resources for and others in which to discontinue or
scale back on. Because of the overall importance of strategic planning how to define whether a
strategic planning is valid must also be given much consideration. The Baldridge criteria is a highly
reliable source as well as well known institute, of which many organizations use to base their strategic
planning on. The Baldrige Program oversees the nation s only Presidential award for performance
excellence while offering criteria, assessments, tools, training and a community for those dedicated to
helping organizations improve. According to the Baldridge Performance

A Brief Note On Korean War Veterans Memorial
Korean War Veterans Memorial
In 1985, the former members of the U.S. armed forces, who served in the Korean War, made a union
to build a memorial for the Korean War. The U.S. congress authorized the American Battle
Monuments Commission to build a memorial in Washington D.C. to honor the U.S. soldiers in 1986.
After the fund raising, the Memorial construction began in 1993 and it was completed in 1995. To
build the memorial, 18 million dollars was funded and five million dollars of a total cost was assisted

The memorial is a circle intersected by a triangle. In a triangle field, 19 stainless steel statues are in a
squad on patrol, representing each branch of the U.S. armed forces: Air Force, Army, Marines, and
Navy. They are portrayed from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and their windblown ponchos mean
the harsh weather of Korea. On the side of the statues, 22 countries of the United Nations that sent
troops or gave medical support are listed. On the south side, a black granite wall, which intermingles
the images of the faces, is standing. The faces are based on actual photographs of unidentified U.S.

Gun Control Under Control Essay
Gun Control Under Control
Whenever a shooting happens, such Columbine, the Aurora Theater Shooting, or the Navy Yard
shooting, the question of gun control comes up in politics again. Then after a month or two, the topic
is dropped, until yet another shooting happens. When is this nation going to finally make a change?
America needs to put more emphasis on making certain potential criminals and the clinically insane
do not have access to such dangerous weapons. What about the little boy who found his parent s gun
in his parent s bedside drawer and accidentally shot himself? Should there not be laws to protect him?

The idea of redesigning guns is considered more with public safety due to the larger numbers of gun
related deaths (Now 3). What is so hard about making guns safer? If people are not willing to make
guns safer, which is obviously the case, then there should be gun controls. . Imagine how many of
these accidental deaths could be prevented if guns can be kept out of the hands of children and the

According to the NCIPC In 1994, there were 38,505 firearm related deaths. These included: more than
17,800 homicides; more than 18,700 suicides; more than 1,300 unintentional, firearms related deaths
related to firearms (Facts 1). Some of the worst crimes are committed with guns. For example, the
shooting at Columbine which Americans heard about on the news in 1999. Two teenagers shot and
killed twelve students and one teacher at their own school (Facts 1). The boys were later thought to be
mentally ill, as with many of the people who commit shooting such as this. Could this have been
prevented through gun laws that require stricter background checks and better mental health check

Reflection Of A Crucible
A crucible is a situation of severe trial, or in which different elements interact, leading to the creation
of something new. Everyone in their life has experienced or gone through a crucible that has had a
great impact on how they view something. From my perspective I have experienced a crucible that
changed how I viewed the simple things. My crucible was how much my mom did for me and I never

The little things my mom did for me was she always calls me right after school and asks me how my

thing she would do is she ask me if I ever wanted anything for her to buy. I would always crave a

would always ask me if I wanted anything. I would never noticed when I asked for an iced coffee in
the winter she would never complain on how already her hands were freezing and imagine your hands
so cold and carrying ice coffee with snow in your face. I never genuinely appreciated how mom never
complained on how cold she was, and she does all these kinds of things as in of how much love she

The Nightmare of Prohibition Essay
On midnight of January 16, 1920, American went dry. One of the personal habits and everyday
practices of most Americans suddenly diminished. The Eighteenth Amendment was passed, and all
importing, exporting, transporting, selling, and manufacturing of intoxicating liquor was put to an end.
The Congress passed the Amendment on January 16,1919, but it only went into effect a year later. The
Volstead Act was passed with the Eighteenth Amendment on October 23, 1919. The Act was named
after Andrew Volstead, a Republican representative from Minnesota. The Volstead Act, also known as

The speak easy era was pretty outrageous, according to 20s jazz singer Hoagy Carmicheal. A bang of
bad booze, flappers with bare legs, jangled morals and wild weekends is what how he described it
(Pick, 1:4). By 1925, there were over 100,000 speak easies in New York City alone (Thornton, 5).
Furthermore, the illegal liquor business fell under the control of organized gangs, which overpowered
most of the authorities. Many bootleggers secured their business by bribing the authorities, namely
federal agents and persons of high political status. Mob bosses opened plush nightclubs with exotic
floor shows and the hottest bands. It was as if Prohibition was a joke in the United States. People were
drinking more than ever, and more people were dying from alcohol related diseases (Pick, 5).
Resulting from the lack of enforcement of the Prohibition Act and the creation of an illegal industry,
there was an increase in crime. Prohibitionists expected the Volstead Act to decrease intoxication in
America, and then the crime rate would decrease. At the start of Prohibition this purpose seemed to be
fulfilled, but the crime rate soon skyrocketed to nearly twice that of the pre prohibition period. In large
cities the homicide went from 5.6 (per 100,000 population) in the pre prohibition period, to nearly 10

(Gibbs, 2017). While looking at the different opinions of the most influential people, it was surprising
to see that Harriet Tubman was not included on Business Insider, Biography Online, or TIME s list
(Garfield, 2016; Hart, 1978; Skiena Ward, 2013). Harriet Tubman was a very influential woman who
impacted the lives of many people. She was born into slavery in Maryland and was originally named
Araminta Harriet Ross after her mother Harriet Green and her father Ben Ross (Biography, 2017).
Harriet escaped slavery and gained her freedom in Pennsylvania in the year 1849 (Biography, 2017).
Eventually she went back to Maryland and helped hundreds of slaves escape to their freedom through
the network of the Underground Railroad (Biography, 2017). She was then given the nickname Moses
because of her similarity of leading people to freedom like the biblical figure of the same name (
Harriet Tubman, n.d. a). Tubman also helped the Union Army during the Civil War, doing jobs such as
a nurse, cook, laundress, scout, and spy ( Harriet Tubman, n.d. a). She was a leading abolitionist and
supporter of women s rights (Biography, 2017). Harriet Tubman influenced people through her
fearless attitude and generous heart, while encouraging people to be kind to others and fight for what

The Enormous Room, By E. Cummings
E.E. Cummings creative and disputable verse addresses him as being one of the most popular and
largely anthologized poets of the twentieth century. Cummings took a great amount of appreciation
toward his readers and sought to provide entertainment through his poetry by using visual effect and
familial love. Cummings s continual objectives were conformism, mass psychology, and his arrogance
which all led to his entertaining and occasionally scornful ridicules. Cummings s historical experience
of his time spent in World War I, The Enormous Room (1922), and his tentative plays, such as Him
(1927), have acquired him the reputation as a distinguished writer of the modernist era in America
literature. E.E. Cummings was a Man of Poetry and his background revealed him as being a
distinctive American poet, which greatly influenced his literary accomplishments in poetry.
Cummings was encouraged upon his creative gifts at an early age by his parents. His father who was a
Congregationalist minister and teacher at Harvard University, and his mother who found great joy out

Artists looking for the existing moment have only enlarged since the mention of his odd and delightful
poems. Even if Cummings s poetry does not satisfy a specific reader, the inspiration of Cummings on
the upcoming of poetry due to his visual creativity, grasp of words, and modernization cannot be
denied. It can be stated that poetry was not the same before Cummings, and is persistently altered after
him. He has not been favored by critics or had them on his side, he has frequently stood the aim of
tough criticism. With the surprise of his use of punctuation, critics are seeing his works and are
noticing the exact significance in the poems themselves. Possibly the critics are finally beginning to
give Cummings and his work a valuable

Cheer Captain Essay
Cheer Captain Essay
11/28/17
To be a cheer captain, there are many responsibilities and priorities. To be a captain you have to be
strong and not afraid to try new things. You need to have a great positive attitude the whole time and
not let the drama start on the team. You have to make sure your team is ready for games and practices
and make sure everyone knows what they are doing and if not to take it slowly until they get it. Being
a captain is a lot of responsibilities but it s an amazing opportunity. I think I am fit to be the captain,
because I can bring all these priorities or tasks in with me. I know not to let my feelings drag the team
down and I know that you always have to keep a smile on your face. To be a captain you have ... Show

I know people s strengths and weaknesses, I also know how certain people work to with each other
and I understand that some people may not work well with others but I will try my hardest to make
sure nothing bad happens to the team and the people that make up the team, I will work on everyone
getting along with each other. To some people, leadership means to lead a group of people but in
cheerleading, and to me, it is so much more. In the community, on the sidelines, and even in school,
you are representing the team and the school you cheer for along with your reputation. You have to
work the hardest, encourage your team, always keep the smile going and stay positive. Even at or not
at practice or a sporting event you have to think of the team and how your actions will rely on the
team and affect the team, everyone relies on the leader. Being a cheerleader to me isn t just about
cheering on the football or basketball team. Cheerleading is more than that. Cheerleading is a group of
girls who have the passion and the trust with each other to catch them and trust that they will do their
part. Cheerleading are being a family and not being able to have your own space. Priorities of
cheerleading are; making your toes pointed, having a good attitude, making great facial expressions,
and having those little girls that look up to you, have a great role model. These are just some reasons

1. What are potential advantages and disadvantages of entering into these power

There are several advantages and very few disadvantages to power

mile arrangements; the largest
advantage being improved service to customers. The improved financial status of the railroad has
allowed the rail industry to provide a more tailored service to its customers. It has also allowed for
better equipment and more ease when negotiating contract rates for volume movements.
Also, with this arrangement, CBN would likely be using more up to date equipment. Since the

The same should apply in regards to employee productivity ratio where it was presupposed that CBN

productivity. If CBN doesn t achieve the target ratio, it must pay a penalty for the productivity gap.
As cost reduction is the important benefit sought from an agreement of this nature, CBN and the
companies its leasing from should agree to work towards reductions in total cost through continuous
improvement processes and technological improvements.
The agreement would allow both parties to share benefits according to a predetermined formula.
It would also provide for shared labour and material cost escalation.
Both teams would be responsible for finding alternatives to improve the program. For example, by
improving shop operations or methods of scheduling locomotives for maintenance. The teams would
also determine the best methods for continuous improvements of benefit sharing which may be in the
form of parts credits, rebates, rate adjustments or other methods.
3. Do you think that the decision to lease the locomotives was the best decision for
CBN? Explain your answer.

Claude Lorraine And Nicolas Poussin
By the beginning of the 17th century Britain became a worldwide trading nation.
Enormous personal fortunes were created and the aristocracy turned their attention to the improvement
and embellishment of their estates. Many were educated and well versed in the arts and classics. It was
the age of the grand tour, a journey of artistic refinement through France and Italy. They came back
enthralled with Palladian architecture and seeing visions of Claude s ideal landscapes in their own
domains, where they proceeded to create an Elysium, their interpretation of the age old ideal of the
paradise garden.

Situated just below the Delaware River opposite Trenton, New Jersey the borough of Morrisville was
home to 8,668 residents in 2013 (United States Census Bureau). Drug and alcohol addiction problems
exist in Morrisville similar to other areas of the country. Recent data indicates heroin and alcohol are
the leading substances of abuse sending Pennsylvania residents into treatment. During 2014, over 37%
of all Pennsylvania drug rehab enrollments cited heroin as their primary substance of abuse, and over
23% cited alcohol as theirs.
Recovery from addiction comes in a number of different forms and uses a variety of methods. When
comparing inpatient vs. outpatient treatment programs the greatest difference is where the recovering
person resides. An inpatient program requires the client to reside in the facility full time during their
recovery whereas an outpatient program allows for more freedom. Outpatient rehab centers allow the
client to remain at home during their recovery and attend the facility during the day or evening. While
each type of program has advantages, determining which type of program will best meet the recovery
needs of the addict will require honesty when faced with the question; can the individual remain sober
when away from the facility? If they answer is no, then an inpatient, or even residential treatment
program is necessary to ensure the best chances of sobriety

The Current Policies Of The Canadian Columbia
Income Assistance Rates in British Columbia: Why Maximum is Not Enough
Income Assistance rates in British Columbia have been stuck at a paltry maximum of $610 for a single
employable individual for the past 10 years. Although the cost of living has steadily increased, Income
Assistance rates have remained stagnant. The current social welfare policies adopted by the Canadian
Government in general and the provincial Government of British Columbia in particular are reflective
of the strong liberal political ideology that has taken root in Canadian society. A political belief system
that puts profit and economic growth above social equality and prosperity for all, is one that is in
desperate need of repair. The current policies that govern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canada s acceptance of the welfare state was brief however, and the economic downturn of the 1970 s,
as well as right wing campaigns calling for an end to social programs saw massive cuts to the social
safety net so many Canadians depended on (p.46). It was believed that to combat economic stagnation
and see a return to profits, many social programs must be eliminated. During the 1980 s and 1990 s
government spending on social programs was drastically reduced, effectively dismantling much of the
welfare state (another book).
Furthermore, 1996 saw the end of the Canada Assistance Plan (CAP) (p.49) that was established in
1966 and helped to standardize and fund nationwide Social Assistance (p.46). This program was a
consolidation of federal and provincial programs, with financial responsibility shared 50/50 between
federal and provincial governments and among many things, saw that anyone determined to be in need
would receive funding without a work requirement imposed to receive assistance (another book
p.113). CAP and Established Programs Financing (EPF) were combined into the Canadian Health and
Social Transfer (CHST), this merger eliminated many of the requirements laid out in Canadian
Assistance Plan by the federal government that required the provinces to uphold certain

among the most successful business ventures of the Virgin empire owned by Richard Branson. Its

deregulation of the European Airline, many airlines have been able to cope with the changes and make

airline industry is the British Airways (BA). British Airways is regarded as one of the UK s largest
international scheduled airline. It is known for being such because of the strategies imposed by the
management of the airline industry. One of the strategies utilized by British Airways is its ability to
efficiently promote its brand names all over the market place. This strategic promotion has made the
airline industry to continuously be known locally and internationally when it comes to travel
satisfaction and convenience. Another strategy that can be attributed to British Airways as a whole is
its ability to value their customers. Herein, the company has been able to follow other airline industry
to cut their service cost while providing excellent service to their target market. Lastly, the ability to
strategically align modern technology and it business strategy is the most important strategy that can
be attached to BA. British Airways has competently position its place to be known in both cargo

Devonian Rocks
Melbourne has a bedrock of Middle Paleozoic age which is included within the Devonian and Silurian
periods (354 441 million years prior). These rocks are overlain in wide zones which also include much
more youthful rocks, and were generally part of the Tertiary and Quaternary ages (2 65 mya). Rocks
of Early Silurian (441 mya) were discovered to be the most established within the bedrock. Particular
in the outcrops located in the north east around Warrandyte (Anderson Creek Formation), and on the
west side of Melbourne more specifically the Maribyrnong Valley around Keilor (Springfield
Formation). Fossils found within these developments are very unique. Rocks located east of Keilor
and south of Warrandyte were discovered to be more youthful, with different ages from Late Silurian
(418 mya) in the Melbourne Formation (city region) to Early Devonian (384 mya) at the Humevale
Formation (Lilydale).
These Paleozoic rocks are steeply plunging sandstones and siltstones, with a little event of limestone
at Lilydale the Early Devonian Lilydale Limestone. The Silurian rocks were stored in profound water,
while the Devonian rocks, which are exceptionally fossiliferous, appear to have been stored in
shallower water. These Silurian and Devonian rocks were folded into a progression of anticlines ...

A Survey on Human Mobility Modeling The speaker of this presentation is Hugo Serrano Barbosa
Filho from Florida Tech. The topic of this presentation is the importance of human mobility modeling
and several human mobility modeling methods Human mobility model represents the movement of
human and how they change their positions over time[1]. At the beginning of presentation Mr. Filho
answered two questions. First, human mobility research is about analyze and predict human daily
activities and places they visiting. Second, human mobility modeling is reproduce patterns about
human mobility activities, and the reason why modeling human mobility is it can help to solve a lot of
problems. These problems are very important in nowadays. For example, traffic forecasting can
forecast traffic situation in different streets and give drivers the best path to destination. Urban
planning can help improving the urban areas. Epidemics modeling can predicate how epidemics such
like flu moved and how to control it. Then Mr. Filho introduced the two different levels of human
mobility. The first one we call it individual level, which is a micro level. It is about an individual s
activities, such like what places he/she visits in a week. But in the other hand is the population level,
which is a macro level. This level is about the entire data of a group people s activities, such like how
many cars travel through a particular road each week, or how many people migrate from one area to

Pennies Lab Report
Pennies made before 1982 and the pennies that were made after them create a significant difference.
Pennies made before 1982 are made of copper (Warnick 1). Due to the change of the of the metals
over the time period it must of caused a change in the pennies mass. Therefore, the density of pennies
created before 1982 and the pennies produced today have different densities. Density can also be used
to identify unknown substances Density is defined as the ratio of mass to volume (Lab: A Penny For

For example, how to physically find the density of an object by finding their mass with a balance and
finding the object s volume using the method water displacement. The purpose of the experiment was
to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies were made out of copper
but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to create pre 1982 pennies was
copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of post 1982 changed. The
predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal zinc. Which will show that the
post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment, the mass of the post 1982 pennies
were found using an electric balance and the volume was found by water displacement. The pennies
mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five trials the densities was found of those
each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find the density of the post 1982 pennies. The
average density found after doing the experiment was 7.042 g/mL. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/mL.
However, errors may have occurred tampering the density that was discovered. For example, reading
the water measurement slightly wrong when using water displacement to find the volume of the
pennies or not placing the pennies correctly in the cylinder which could create air pockets .Due to the

Amy Winehouse Back To Black Analysis
Amy Winehouse Back to Black
Amy Winehouse is an old soul who inspired a new sound in a modern age. She manipulated classical
jazz with her hip hop influences and her strong unique voice with lyrics from her life experiences.
These factors made her music unique and inspiring. Sadly in July of 2011, Amy passed away at the
young age of twenty seven, leaving behind her musical legacy. Back to Black is one of her most
popular albums that shows off her beautiful voice and thoughtful composition. Due to its unique traits
in modern music, it will continue to be played. This album is truly a work of art based on Amy s use
of meaningful lyrics in her songs, her strong unique voice, and her particular take on jazz. I feel that
Back to Black is an outstanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express struggles
within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and confront her troubles
in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more wonderful. In the documentary
film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just
cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs
are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just
trying to be different with my lyrics (Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude,
which made her vulnerable, but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the
lyrics that she wrote was her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly
shown in the song Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed
from all that we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to
go back to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s
powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to that
of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even when she
wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood. Her voice glints
with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy timing of a Dinah
Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla Thomas (Pareles). The
main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other album out there that sounds
similar. Ms. Winehouse has grown up on hip hop s version of R B, which chops the old dramatic

Harmond was highly educated having graduated from an Ivy League school, married, a business owner, wealthy, and involved in local government. Events in history are unchangeable, once they have happened there is no way of changing the past. However, what can change is the perception of such events which in turns changes the sentiment. When Randy Roberts and James S. Olson wrote A Line in the Sand: The Alamo in Blood and Memory they changed the way the events of The Alamo could be viewed and thus exposing some truth about the events that lead to what is known as the greatest battle in Texas independence history. • 10. The High Dynamic Range Compression Operator 4 METHODOLOGY HDR image given as an input with radiance map I^h, f (.) is the high dynamic range compression operator computes the radiance map in a low dynamic range I^l = f (I^h). An important goal of this method is to decrease the large radiance values and increase small ones. To correctly keep the local structures, however, the monotonic mapping of radiance should be satisfied regarding each pixel s neighborhood in a small local region, similar to the global tone mapping curves monotone characteristic. Firstly, generate guidance map c according to eq (4) which indicates the area of the input HDR image that should be enhanced or compressed, then divide input HDR image into windows or blocks. Secondly, compare guidance map values in each window with threshold value. Thirdly, determine if linear or nonlinear tone mapping method applied for selected window in image. Then, if we describe the window w_i with pixel i in the center, the linear function is: I^l (j)=p_i I^h (j)+q_i , j ∈w_i (1) A simple yet complete representation has been provided that satisfy the local monotonic constraint. Control the mapping in different ways through the coefficients p_i and q_i within the local window. The value of p represents the slope of the linear function while q determines the base radiance level. The terms q and p directly control the local contrast as shown in Fig. 1. If p 1, as shown in Fig. 1a, the local contrast is enhanced, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oftentimes, the characters who are identified as being rude, deranged, immoral, overconfident, idolaters, and even cruel, are the ones who belong to the upper class. For example, in The Cask of Amontillado, Montresor wishes to kill the wealthy Fortunato because of a thousand injuries and an insult. While neither the injuries nor the insult is mentioned, Fortunato is shown insulting the intelligence of his acquaintance, Luchresi, by calling him an, ignoramus, and saying that he, cannot tell Amontillado from sherry. From New England to Georgia, different groups of Baptists began to form churches. They had only one doctrinal requirement that united them, i.e., the believer s baptism by full immersion in water; also, Baptists then had different theological doctrinal beliefs. Notwithstanding, in the 1700 s, Baptist leaders sought to unify and homogenize the Baptist theology; they founded colleges and formed associations. However, the cause of religious liberty, was also a unanimous and significant characteristic that united the majority of Baptists. Their participation within their communities distinguished from other denominations. The Baptists were not contending for tolerance but for absolute religious liberty. Theirs demand was not for their right only but for the right of all dissenters and non conformists as well. Some historians affirm that religious liberty in America was accomplished due to the diligence of the American Baptist, which now is proven to be the greatest contribution to American science and statecraft. 11 Significant Names of Baptist Leaders New England marks the beginnings of the Baptist struggle for religious liberty. The Price Of Persecution By Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye The Price of Persecution The plight of the weak against the powerful is one of the oldest and compelling stories that can be told, and it has always been the story of race in the United States. Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye is a candid look into the lives of African Americans in the early 1940 s, focusing on the drama surrounding the coming of age of young girls. The debilitating effects of racism, sexism, and classism on children and adults of different social statuses are explored through the stories of a number of families. By illustrating a society in which each class elevates itself by oppressing those below them, Morrison demonstrates how the cyclical nature of oppression can cripple a community and family for generations. Geraldine s obsession with pedantic distinctions between different groups of black residents in Lorain leads her son and the whole next generation to preserve the biases of their parents. The maltreatment practiced by those of mixed race has a real impact on those they perceive as inferior. Maureen Peal is a wealthy mixed race girl that moves to Pecola s school. • 20. The Causes Of The Khmer Rouge The Khmer Rouge carried out one of the most horrific genocides in the twentieth century. The nation of Cambodia was in a near decade civil war between the Communist (Khmer Rouge) and the monarchy and then the Khmer Republic. The Khmer Rouge won the civil war and controlled all of Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they committed horrific crimes against their own people. This genocidal regime was one of the worst events in the later years of the 1900s, and it is not well talked about in schools. The Khmer Rouge movement started back in the 1940s when Cambodia was fighting for freedom from the French government. Over the years, the Northern Vietnamese influenced much of the group s practices and beliefs. They gained so much members during the Lon Nol era because many Cambodian people lost family from the American bombings (whom Lon Nol was allied with). Through fear and threats, the Khmer Rouge scared the people into moving into the countryside. They abolished all things that have to do with capitalism. They brainwashed people into starving the population, torturing the accused , and murdering any who oppose the Khmer Rouge way of life and leadership. This led to widespread poverty of Cambodia, and the people learned to love and respect everyone because of the hate shown to them during this horrific event. Many, til this day, still do not share their stories of what happened during this time because they are scared to be reminded of what was committed against them. That is why the country is still corrupt today because the two decade old prime minister Hun Sen was an ex Khmer Rouge Soldier. The Khmer Rouge group was created in the 1940s, but it was during the Vietnam War that the KR gained more power and became more prominent. The Khmer Rouge is an off shot from the North Vietnamese government and essentially was funded by their government. The Vietnamese helped to make the KR a real political party in the Cambodian political system. The first sign of symbolism is in the title of the story. The word young is used in saying that Mr. Brown is young in his marriage and in his maturity. The next word Goodman was a term used in Hawthorne s day as a man under a gentleman. This fits Mr. Brown because he is no one special, only to his friends and family. Symbolism is strewn throughout the story in what seems like every word. As Mr. Brown goes deeper in the forest with the Devil, he notices his staff which resembles a serpent. This is obviously a literary allegory to the story of Adam and Eve in the bible in which a serpent, the most slyest and keen of all animals, convinces Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. It is about Kingston s aunt who, while her husband was in America, became pregnant and committed suicide the day of her illegitimate child s birth. Also included in the story is a raid, undertaken by neighbors and other villagers, on the aunt s family and home. In order to fully understand the story, it is necessary to know the historical context. Taking place in 1920s China, the instability, importance of the family, and attitude towards women impact the final essay. Without taking those three things into account, one cannot properly analyze Kingston s work. Before 1924, when the incident takes place, China suffered numerous hardships. There was, for example, the first Sino Japanese War, which was followed by the Boxer Rebellion only a few years later. Then, in the span of only a couple of years, the Manchu Restoration and the May Fourth Movement begin and end. The density of a matter is equal to the mass divided into the volume. The mass of a matter or object can be found by using a scale. Furthermore, the volume can be found using the method of water displacement. The purpose of finding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, how to physically find the density of an object by finding their mass with a balance and finding the object s volume using the method water displacement. The purpose of the experiment was to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies were made out of copper but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to create pre 1982 pennies was copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of post 1982 changed. The predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal zinc. Which will show that the post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment, the mass of the post 1982 pennies were found using an electric balance and the volume was found by water displacement. The pennies mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five trials the densities was found of those each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find the density of the post 1982 pennies. The average density found after doing the experiment was 7.042 g/mL. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/mL. However, errors may have occurred tampering the density that was discovered. For example, reading the water measurement slightly wrong when using water displacement to find the volume of the pennies or not placing the pennies correctly in the cylinder which could create air pockets .Due to the close difference between the ... • 50. Amy Winehouse Back To Black Analysis Amy Winehouse Back to Black Amy Winehouse is an old soul who inspired a new sound in a modern age. She manipulated classical jazz with her hip hop influences and her strong unique voice with lyrics from her life experiences. These factors made her music unique and inspiring. Sadly in July of 2011, Amy passed away at the young age of twenty seven, leaving behind her musical legacy. Back to Black is one of her most popular albums that shows off her beautiful voice and thoughtful composition. Due to its unique traits in modern music, it will continue to be played. This album is truly a work of art based on Amy s use of meaningful lyrics in her songs, her strong unique voice, and her particular take on jazz. I feel that Back to Black is an outstanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express struggles within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and confront her troubles in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more wonderful. In the documentary film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just trying to be different with my lyrics (Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude, which made her vulnerable, but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the lyrics that she wrote was her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly shown in the song Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed from all that we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to go back to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to that of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even when she wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood. Her voice glints with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy timing of a Dinah Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla Thomas (Pareles). The main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other album out there that sounds similar. Ms. Winehouse has grown up on hip hop s version of R B, which chops the old dramatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
