Kohlberg s Theory Of The Development Of Moral Judgement
Critically Evaluate Kohlberg s Theory of the Development of Moral Judgement
Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) on moral
development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical
manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations
he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex
differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development by
interviewing 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. These
issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority ... Show more content on

Although the universal support for Kohlberg s theory is impressive, it does not actually prove that
people went through all the stages in the same order that Kohlberg predicted they would. As these
participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all
went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at
the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did
do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three
to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the
participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer
strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study
mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in
many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp,
2007).
However, there are limits to how far Kohlberg s theory of morality can be taken. When doing the
research to develop his theory Kohlberg only interviewed male participants, completely ignoring the
possibility that females could have a different outlook on morality to males. Carol Gilligan (1982,
1993) recognised that this was an issue with

The Vision Of A Vision
Setting a vision is incredibly important. Because the people impacted by the change are aware of
exactly what the goals are and what is expected of them. If it is a compelling vision and people buy
into it then it is much easier to make the change happen but if people don t agree it makes the process
much harder. Also some people don t want to change how they do things and want to continue doing
things exactly how they were in the past (this is a problem). The way that the vision was created is by
providing both high level vision statements (long term goals) as well as much more tactical and
strategic guidelines for what to do in the short run. The vision is then provided to the team very often
and consistently through both emails and town halls from senior management as well as from projects
and day to do workload from the directors which ties the work to the long term vision. It is important
that people understand how what they are doing is connected to the larger goals. It is also important to
acknowledge and reinforce that change takes time and that there is a long term view on success.
The strategies used to achieve the vision included: Providing team training on new tools and
technologies to make sure that everyone no matter where they came from before had the same
foundation to be able to do the job going forward. The vision was repeated and made clear constantly
and consistently so that everyone knew what the goals were and what they were working towards.

Allochthon Hypothesis
From the above section we already talked about the rocks of Roberts mountains allochthon and
autochthon. In this section, we are trying to evaluate the Roberts mountains allochthon and autochthon
according to the Mediterranean analog hypothesis proposed by Burchfield and Royden (1991), and
modified by Dickinson (2000) rather than island arc collision hypothesis. Burchfield and Royden
(1991) cast doubted the island arc collision hypothesis because: 1. the arc west of the North American
continent and its structures seem more to face west rather than east. 2. The Havallah basin sediments
deposited before and after the emplacement of the Roberts mountains allochthon. 3. Deposition
occurred in a paleogeographic location that should have been occupied ... Show more content on

In the east facing subduction zone, a thrust belt developed as an accretionary prism, and the trench
retreated within the subduction zone (slab rollback) caused the thrust to migrate toward the continental
margin. As a result, Havallah basin formed within an enlarging extensional region to the west of the
trench and thrust belt. So how does slab rollback work? The slab rollback occurs when an older
oceanic crust, which may lose heat by thermal contraction or another reason; thus becomes colder and
denser than other slabs, then subducting at a steep angle. The slab rollback may pull the upper plate, as
the colder slab collapses into the asthenosphere; it can roll back through the mantle. As a result it
causes an extension in the overlying plate (example an enlarged extensional region in the Havallah
basin) and possibly backarc spreading. Havallah sedimentation began during the emplacement of the
allochthon, in an extending region to the west. Low grade rocks formed in the Osgood Mountains
were exposed by tectonic unroofing during extension and unconformably overlain by post tectonic
Pennsylvanian sedimentary rocks. In the hanging wall of the antler subduction system, arc volcanic
that may have been erupted near or within the backarc extension, were extended and subside during or

College Sports Gambling
With all of the controversy of gambling in college sports, why is the issue still an issue? The answer is
money. There were actions taken towards this by
Congress, but the problem is that it was never completely abolished. Congress had made the mistake
of creating a way around it. It is now commonly referred to as the Las Vegas loophole. They outlawed
the betting nationwide with the exception of one state, one state that is the capital of gambling,
Nevada. This has caused few changes, with the exception of the ever growing revenue that it
generates. Another reason the legality still remains is one not frequently mentioned, but the question
of the ban being constitutional. But no matter what the law, is there ... Show more content on

People of all kinds are in agreeance that the impact of this law would hardly be worth the effort. John
Shelk, vice president of the American Gaming Association, also stated It s not like Congress is going
to pass a law that bans legal gambling, and students across the country will say, ‘Oh my God, I can t
gamble anymore because it s illegal. Sen. McCain, co author of last year s Senate bill, had countered
his opinion to ESPN.com by saying, I don t think we have to choose between enforcing existing laws
on illegal gambling and closing the loophole on legal gambling. McCain added, we can do both.
McCain and others claim that eliminating legalized gambling in Nevada would be an essential first
step on stopping the college sports gambling. Critics disagree.
They believe that the attempt to chip away at illegal sports gambling isn t a logical first step, at all.
The fact of the college sports gambling, is that there is too much publicity, popularity, and money
surrounding this particular gambling sport.
In the beginning there was a problem with popularity. From 1951 1974, there was a 10% excise tax
levied by the Federal Government on the amount of sports wagers. The tax made the business
unprofitable since the profit margin was generally 5%

Negative Portrayals Of Single Parented Parents
Coming from a family with a single parent can become a problem within itself, but with only having
one parent, the child is faced with being an outcast and classified as different than the rest of the
children. When a parent comes from a bad past, society assumes the same for their children. For a
child of these type of parents, it is hard to get out of this situation and defy the odds set on them by
society. In television shows such as Weeds and Mom, there are many examples of these portrayals of
the parents and their children. Negative portrayals in television shows of single parented families
through comedic relief gives the children of these families a negative mindset, while being compared
to these poor depictions in these shows. A child that has went through this traumatic experience will
go through hard times, but will try to look at the positive sides of things that they come to challenge
with. In his book, Psychological well being and quality of parenting among children of single parent
family, Kiran Sahu stated that The psychological well being includes meaning in life, absence of
somatic symptoms, self esteem, positive effect, daily activities, suicidal thoughts, personal control
social support, absence of tension and general efficiency (531). The television show, Weeds, focuses
on a single mother, Nancy Bloom, who has an early bad depiction in the show. After her husband,
Judah, dies unexpectedly, Nancy has to take the center position in her family. After becoming faced
with financial problems after her husband s death and dark past coming back to haunt the family,
Nancy has to become a drug dealer for her neighborhood and family to survive. Nancy is having to
deal with these financial struggles and taking care of her three children: Silas, Shane, and Steven. With
having both of their parents in the negative spotlight of the community, these children have a hard
time trying to reach success in their city. With the death of Judah and having their mom to rely on,
each child acts in different ways. Silas, the oldest, was devastated when his father Judah died, and he
took his emotions out on everyone and started depending on drugs to forget about it. In season 1,
episode 10 of Weeds, Silas is shown

Un Peacekeeping Has Become An Important Component Of Conflict
UN peacekeeping has become an important component of conflict management across the globe,
involving complex multi dimensional missions with mandates to help establish long and lasting peace.
Peacekeepers represent and help implement the values of international community in their activities in
conflict areas. Unfortunately, some peacekeepers have engaged in exploitative and abusive sexual
relations with the beneficiary population that they serve. Often these transgressions followed by
impunity for a myriad of institutional and cultural reasons. The efforts of the UN to address sexual
misconduct are either curtailed by their competences as an organization or deficient. This study argues
that the UN would benefit from a new approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A conclusion and discussion follows.
II. Sexual Misconduct In Peace Operations
The record of peacekeeper sexual misconduct has a long history stretching back as far as the UN
mission in Cambodia (UNTAC) in 1992 (Simic, 2009, p. 396; Hebert, 2011, p. 124). The UN was ill
prepared for this behavior in peace operations. The UN Special Representative to Cambodia, Yasushi
Akashi infamously said in 1993 in response to peacekeeper sexual abuse of the local population: boys
will be boys (Neudorfer, 2014, p. 13). In 2000, the UN Security Council (UNSC) adopted Resolution
1325 to begin integrating more women into the peacekeeping process and mainstreaming a gendered
perspective in the organization (1325 ####). In 2002, the UNHCR and Save the Children UK issued a
report naming more than 40 humanitarian agencies exploiting refugees in West Africa, which served
as catalyst for the UN and other agencies to make more effective policies to combat sexual misconduct
(Spencer, 2005, p. 172). In 2002, the UN established the Inter Agency Standing Committee Task Force
on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in Humanitarian Crises (Hebert, 2011, p. 125). The
UN Secretary General (UNSG) issued a bulletin in 2003 to establish a zero tolerance policy for sexual
misconduct (Odello Burke, 2016, p. 840; Spencer, 2005, p. 172). Additionally, an advisor was
appointed to the UNSG concerning sexual misconduct by UN peacekeepers

Abstract
A common road salt, magnesium chloride, was analyzed in the lab to test its effectiveness as a road
salt. The Van t Hoff factor of the salt and the enthalpy of dissolution when dissolved in pure water
were experimentally tested to evaluate its many characteristics as a deicer. To determine the Van t Hoff

obtain the average Van t Hoff factor from the data, plot the change of temperature vs. molality and
find the line of best fit. The slope represents the average Van t Hoff factor multiplied by the freezing
point constant of water, (i)(Kf). Then calculate each trial s Van t Hoff factor by using Equation 2. This
originated from the freezing point depression equation: i = ΔT/((Kf)(m)) (Equation 2) The freezing
point constant (Kf) of water is 1.86 °C m 1. Each mass amount and Van t Hoff factor was calculated
then analyzed in a table. Experiment 2: Experiment 2 focused on finding the enthalpy of solution of
magnesium chloride. Testing the enthalpy of solution started with measuring out 10 mL of deionized
water in a graduated cylinder for three separate trials, each trial having a different mass of magnesium
chloride. The water was then poured into a well of a Styrofoam calorimeter then the initial
temperature of water was taken using a temperature probe and the LoggerPro programming. A
measured amount of magnesium chloride was placed in the same well as the water in the calorimeter,

Minoan Civilization Essay
The Minoan civilization was founded in 3000 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE, whereas the Mycenaean
civilization was founded in 1900 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE (Matthews, Noble, Platt, 2014). The
Minoan and Mycenaean cultures are found to be in present day Greeks as DNA has revealed to be
similar in early farmers (Reich, 2017).
The Minoans were the first literate civilization in Europe. One key aspect of the Minoan and
Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later was writing. Linear A, a syllabic system that
cannot be read by anyone except the Minoans, however, the Mycenaeans produced thousands of
Linear B tablets, that contained documents for the government, as well as the Iliad and Odyssey
(Matthews et al, 2014). Both Linear A and B are from a syllabic system, which are like the Greek
letters. Another key aspect of the Minoan and Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later
were metals, such as bronze, copper, tin, silver, and gold (Matthews et al, 2014). These metals were
used for military weapons such as swords, spears, daggers, and others, the chariots with the horse and

Job Satisfaction, Work Attitude and Stress Tolerance of...
CHAPTER I
The PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
INTRODUCTION
Rationale of the Study
Job satisfaction is simply how people feel about their jobs and different aspects of their jobs. It is the
extent to which people like (satisfaction) or dislike (dissatisfaction) their jobs. As it is generally
assessed, job satisfaction is an attitudinal variable. In the past, job satisfaction was approached by
some researchers from the perspective of need fulfilment that is, whether or not the job met the
employee s physical and psychological needs for the things provided by work (Cote S., and Morgan
LM, 2002).
In a report on job satisfaction by the National Center for Education Statistics (2003) revealed many

Taking in to account that most of these teachers are working away from their home and family and
could only go home weekly, or the least once a month due to the distance of the schools they are
assigned.
However, districts located in the hinterland such as Paquibato, had most number of teacher applicants
every year. Reason of this scenario could be the fact that many teachers are applying for transfer to the
nearby schools after a one or two years of service and that applicant could be hired easily.
Nevertheless, some teachers had tenured in this district up to their retirement period and some had
flourished and raised their professional status and positions.
The ground for conducting this study is that it is intended to shed light on what influences how
teachers feel about their work and profession so that positive job related attitudes may be cultivated.
Theoretical Background
The Maslow s hierarchy of needs theory, a motivation theory, laid the foundation for job satisfaction
theory. It is founded in the premise that goals or needs underpin by being the fundamental source of all
desires.
This theory explains that people seek to satisfy five specific needs in life physiological needs, safety
needs, social needs, self esteem needs, and self actualization. In the levels of the five basic needs, the
person does not feel the second need until the demands of the first

Interpretation of the Balcony Scene by Baz Luhrmann and...
Interpretation of the Balcony Scene by Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli of William Shakespreare s
Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a famous love story written by William Shakespeare. Two
interpretations were made of this text into a film by the two directors, Baz Luhrmann (1996) and
Franco Zeffirelli (1968). The films use different types of media to portray the characters and the
overall context of Shakespeare s play. I will be focusing on Act two Scene ii (the balcony scene)
where I will compare how the two directors use media in the films. In Baz Luhrmann s interpretation
of the film we are introduced to a modern scene which makes it easier for the audience to understand

It triggers off when Romeo bumps into the statues and smashes them on the floor which makes the
dogs bark and there is an addition of rustling leaves, these are some of the sound effects that have been
used, which builds up tension and causes more of a scene. In action to this, Romeo climbs up the wall
that leads to Juliet s balcony in order to get to her. The camera shot used is a close up of Romeo to
show his emotional distress that he is feeling. The statues in this scene represent Juliet as a goddess
and that she is very important, this is a key fact to remember in Romeo s eyes. This version is different
to the text as Juliet does not say her famous lines from the balcony, but comes down from her room to
the pool outside, where she recites her lines with passion thinking of her dear Romeo. In Zeffirelli s
account of the film, Romeo is shown down below in the bushes whereas Juliet is the higher and more
powerful person out of the two of them, and she is shown as the higher person sitting on the balcony.
Once again this has been showing the higher and lower and lower angle shots. It also shows a point of
view camera shot throughout this scene, meaning that the film would be played throughout the
character s eyes, as if Romeo or Juliet were filming it themselves. This is done a lot in

The American Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and The Declaration of the Rights of Man

France followed suit with the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Similar in ideas to

the Declaration of Independence, disgruntled colonists would not have been brought together to fight

rights. The Bill of Rights corrected many of the wrongdoings by the English government that made
the colonists revolt, to prevent a revolution from happening in America. The Declaration of
Independence and the Bill of Rights unified the nation as a whole. It is no surprise that the Declaration
of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and the American Bill of rights share many similarities. The

The Declaration of the Rights of Man was also influenced by Mason s ideas during the framing of the

Using Deep Structured Learning Or Deep Machine Learning Essay
INTRODUCTION
Deep Learning (or deep structured learning, or hierarchical learning or deep machine learning) is a
branch of Machine Learning which is based on a set of algorithms that attempts to model high level
abstractions in data by using a deep graph with multiple processing layers which are composed of
multiple non linear and linear transformations.
Applying Deep Learning to Building Automation Sensors
Sensors such as motion detectors, photocells, CO2 and smoke detectors are used primarily for energy
savings and safety, in building automation. However, next generation buildings are intended to be
significantly more intelligent, having the capability to analyze space utilization, monitor occupants
comfort, and thereby generate business intelligence. Building automation infrastructure that supports
such robust features, requires considerably richer information. Since the current sensing solutions are
limited in their ability to address this need, a new generation of smart sensors are required which
enhances the flexibility, reliability, granularity and accuracy of the data they provide.
Data Analytics at the Sensor Node
The latest era of Internet of Things (IoT), there arises an opportunity to introduce a new approach to
building automation that will decentralize the architecture and push the analytics processing to the
sensor unit instead of a central server or cloud. This is commonly referred to as fog computing, or
edge computing, and this approach provides real time

The Battle Of The Marine Corps Community Service Website...
When it comes to intervening in a dangerous situation, most people are too afraid to stand up for what
is right. There are some clear steps as to how to intervene in a dangerous situation such as sexual
assault. According to the Marine Corps Community Service website article,( Master The Three D s To
Bystander Intervention ) Bystander intervention is one of the most effective ways to prevent sexual
assault. There are 3 D s that help an individual intervene in a dangerous situation. According to the
article, the three D s are To delegate, direct, and to distract.
The first step in intervening or preventing a dangerous situations is to delegate. For example, if
someone has too much to drink, let a bartender or another party goer know that a person has had too
much to drink and that they need to make sure no one takes advantage of them. By delegated you are
making sure that the intoxicated individual is taken care of by one person or more. When you have
more than one person checking in on an individual you are ensuring that the individual is taken care
of. Sometimes delegation doesn t only just apply in dangerous situations like sexual assault, but
sometimes dangerous situations in a workplace environment. In the medical field, nurses often
delegate certain tasks within their team when a person is coding and may die. This helps the nurse
because he or she is not taking the sole responsibility to save a person s life. The Fact of the matter is

Inherit The Wind-PEA Essay
Inherit The Wind PEA Political Spectrum Prompt
For Bertram Cates, Henry Drummond, and Matthew Harrison Brady, I would put them on different
Political Spectrums. First, I would put Bertram Cates on the left side of the spectrum, as a Liberal,
because of his beliefs, willingness to accept change, and his opinion on moral issues. Bertram Cates
believes and teaches Evolution, which goes against the law of teaching the story of Creation, written
in the bible. In the first scene of the movie, Bert is observed teaching the theory of Evolution by some
policeman, in which he is arrested for going against the story of Creation. This shows that as Bertram
s role of a Liberal, he has no religious values and believes in whatever he wants too. Also, Bertram has
the ability to accept change more, because he is convinced that Evolution disproves Creation. In scene
1 of the movie he says, Scientists have high beliefs that Evolution disproves the story of Creation,
which has lead me to have the same belief. Bert is an open minded person, which is a characteristic of
a Liberal. Lastly, Bertram believes that the government should have no involvement in his beliefs. On
page 115 of the book, Bert tells the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry is a moderate because he is open to both sides. Henry says at the end of the movie, The Bible is
a great book, but man should keep their right to believe in whatever they shall want too. This shows
that he is unbiased and open to both sides of the argument. Also, while Henry is arguing for Bertram,
he still keeps in mind of the word of the Bible. Listen to this: Genesis 4:16. And Cain went out from
the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod on the East of Eden, stated on page 90. Henry
has studied both of the opposing arguments and this is what a moderate does in politics. Henry
Drummond shows his profile of a Moderate because of his unbiased

Excel Logistics Essay
rP os t KEL019 SUNIL CHOPRA Excel Logistics Services Background op yo The quality of our
performance has improved significantly, but stores continue to complain about our deliveries, said
John Margolis, general manager of the Springfield Warehousing and Distribution Center (WDC) run
by Excel Logistics Services. Margolis looked at the customer satisfaction survey for the fourth quarter
of the previous year. At this point, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to make further
improvements. We need a detailed plan of action regarding what to do next. Robin, I would like to see
an initial plan from you in the next couple of months. Why don t you begin by looking at the receiving

The WDC at Springfield had a total area of 1.1 million square feet and was divided into six modules
(see Exhibit 1). Breakpack items were stored in Module 1, while full case items were stored in Module
3. The other modules were used for sorting and the staging area. On average, Springfield had an
inventory worth $46 million, which corresponded to about a one month demand from stores in the
region. op yo Margolis was hired as the general manager at the Springfield WDC in January of the
previous year. A portion of his bonus was based on a quarterly survey of store managers taken by ELS
management. The last survey prior to Margolis s arrival indicated that store managers were very
dissatisfied with the performance of the Springfield WDC. Springfield was a poor performer and
ranked last within the ELS network. Customers (retail store managers) complained that orders were
late and not delivered in the right quantity. No tC Upon arriving, Margolis focused his attention on
service quality at the WDC. Margolis quickly realized that no performance data was available within
the Springfield WDC. In fact, none of the processes were well defined. He had to put an entire quality
program in place and appointed Robin Stalk as quality manager. Stalk had spent considerable time at
Springfield and was knowledgeable about the processes and problems. As a first step, Stalk and
Margolis identified receiving, inventory storage, order filling, and shipping as

Distance Education Essay
Distance Education
Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance
separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies time
and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat, 1998, p.1).
The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer need to bridge
physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as possible to those who
are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them (Tam, 1998, p.3).
Education needs to reach those who are disadvantaged by location, finance, time, and resources (Tam,
1998, p.3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility is one advantage Web based learning has over the traditional classroom...and you can go as
fast or slow as you need to learn the course materials (Clarker, 1999, p.2). Technology is opening up
many new options for students. Students who wish to continue their education are no longer limited to
a traditional classroom setting (Sonner, 1999, p.1). According to Arlene Krebs of New Orbit
Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance learning is a
combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). However, creators of distance learning tend
to worry about how it looks more than being sensitive to what the learner really needs (Hancock,
1999, p.2).
What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional
technologist come into play)?
Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to foster
learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively rich
learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998, p.4).
Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are
facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). Learner centric theories focus on the
importance of the learner over the instructor to the instructional activity (Leonard, 1999, p.3). The new
paradigm [for distance learning] is a more

Spanish People and Spain
The country of Spain lies on the continent of Europe. It is located forty degrees north and four degrees
west. The capital of Spain, Madrid, is located in the central region known as the Centro Meseta. The
country of Spain is made up of four regions: El norte, El este, El sur, and Centro Meseta. Spain s large
area of 195,988 square miles covers about five sixths of the Iberian Peninsula. It is one of the largest
countries in Western Europe. At its widest point, Spain stretches 635 miles from east to west. It
stretches about 550 miles north to south. Spain s longest coastline lies along the Mediterranean Sea
and stretches for almost 1700 miles from the eastern end of the Pyrenees mountain chain to the strait
of Gibraltar. The Pyrenees, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the 1978 constitution the church is no longer Spain s official or established faith, though
financial support is still provided by the state. As a result, the church s influence in Spanish society
has declined sharply, though officially more than ninety four percent of the population is reported as
being Roman Catholic. The church supported the democratic movement and so helped foster the new
attitude of tolerance and personal freedom found in present day Spain.
Many of Spain s non Catholic citizens are members of some Protestant Church. Small Eastern
Orthodox congregations are found along with Muslim and Jewish groups. Among non Christian Jews
form the major community.
Spain s culture revolves around many different things. Clothing styles are generally not that much
than the ones in the U. S. Most Spaniards dress in modern clothes. The beret is still widely worn,
especially in the Basque country, and Galician men still favor cloth caps. Jeans, T shirts, and tennis
shoes are now as popular in the Iberian Peninsula as everywhere else in Europe.
Cuisine is another important aspect of Spanish culture. The Spanish, like other Mediterranean people,
are particularly fond of sidewalk cafes, where a cup of coffee, glass of wine, or a meal can be enjoyed
with friends. Seafood is particularly favored on most Spanish menus. Olive oil is used abundantly in
cooking, as are garlic, saffron, and peppers. Rice is popular, especially in el sur and

Sonnet XX Of Fatal Interview By Edna St. Vincent Millay
Love is a really beautiful thing, but it isn t everything you have to live for. In life, you will need many
things other than love to survive. In Sonnet XXX of Fatal Interview by Edna St. Vincent Millay, a
poem written as a Shakespearean sonnet, an anonymous speaker discusses how your world doesn t
revolve around love yet you need it in your your life. The sonnet starts off with the speaker s direct
objective of informing the reader Love is not all but ends with an opposing purpose that they would
not give up love for anything. In order for the speaker to figure out the importance and value of love to
themselves, they will have to learn the difference between what they truly desire and require.
To emphasize the significance of love to a human being s survival, the poem begins with the many
aspects that love isn t capable of. By stating the ways love is useless in providing as a necessity of life,
the speaker is able to persuade the reader(s) that it serves no real purpose. Displaying the a b a parts of
a Shakespearean sonnet rhyme scheme, love is not meat or drink nor slumber nor a roof against the
rain; nor yet a floating spar to men that sink, (Millay 1 3) it holds no practical value. It can t provide
you with food and shelter you from nature or even help you to survive. In other words, these stanzas
connected the image of love to an idea of uselessness in surviving.
For this reason, the speaker continues on with listing love s other incapabilities, aside from food and
shelter. These incapabilities continue to build the image of how expendable love is. By further
downgrading love s practical value, it leads to the question of whether love serves any purpose in life
at all. In these four stanzas, Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath, nor clean the blood, nor
set the fractured bone; yet many a man is making friends with death even as I speak, for lack of love
alone, (Millay 5 8) alliteration is displayed along with the addition of a contrasting idea. From the
stanzas, we learn love can t give/bring you oxygen or air, nor can it cleanse blood like your liver and it
most definitely can t mend a broken bone for you yet so many people are willing to die because of or
for love. To put it

Network Security Threats for ASDI
New and Rapidly Advancing Threats One of the biggest threats to network security in 2014 is the end
of support for the Windows XP operating system (OS). On April 8th 2014, Microsoft will discontinue
support for the aging OS. What this means for users of Windows XP is that as new vulnerabilities and
exploits are discovered, they will not be fixed the vulnerabilities will only continue to grow. For any
business environment that is still using Windows XP beyond April 8th, the machines running the OS
will become the organization s biggest security flaw. It is highly likely that hackers are holding back
on using known zero day exploits for Windows XP until after April 8th because they know that
beyond that date, the exploit will not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An exploit kit such as Blackhole can pose a threat to ASDI in two ways. The first threat is to the one
hundred workstations. These workstations could potentially fall victim to a driveby download if they
are used to visit a compromised website. The other way ASDI could be harmed by an exploit kit is if
one or both of its web servers become compromised, and an exploit kit is installed, the servers would
then install malicious software on the company s customer s computers when they visit the site.
Countermeasures and Prevention In order to ensure that ASDI s network is as secure as it can be, it is
important to ensure that the logical structure is appropriate to facilitate a secure network. The
company s two web servers need to be sectioned off from the internal subnets. This is best
accomplished through the use of a demilitarized zone (DMZ), which places a firewall between the
web servers and the intranet, and another firewall between the web servers and the Internet. If the
outer firewall is breached, the web servers may become compromised, but the intranet would still be
protected by an additional firewall. The student workstations should reside on a student subnet which
has no connectivity to the employee subnet. The employee and student subnets will each have a file
server connected, and the company s email server will be connected to the employee subnet. There are
already two WiFi access points (AP) at ASDI one will be

Ppb Case Study
Researches involving the use of association between legumes and PGPBs (Plant Growth Promoting
Bacteria) in heavy metals phytoremediation process were mainly performed for soils highly
contaminated. However, even in agriculture soils, with moderate or low contamination levels, plants
can accumulate high rates of heavy metals. So, food chain contamination by these metals presents a
real thread to animal and human health.
This work aimed to evaluate the use of two legumes/PGPBs symbiosis; Vicia faba minor and Sulla
coronaria, inoculated with specific heavy metals resistant inocula, in a crop rotation system with
Lactuca sativa L. as a following crop, in order to assess their effects on soil fertility, lettuce yield and

2015). Yet, agricultural soils are moderately contaminated by heavy metals due to a long term of
phosphoric fertilizers use, sewage sludge application, dust from smelters, industrial waste and
unsuitable watering practices (Yadav 2010). Soil contamination is mainly located in areas of large
industrial activities, where surrounding agricultural areas are affected by atmospheric deposition of
heavy metals (Puschenreiter et al. 2005). In these areas, agriculture faces a major problem due to
heavy metal transfer into crops and subsequently into the food chain (Puschenreiter et al. 2005). The
main problem is that heavy metals are non biodegradable, and their excessive accumulation in
agricultural soils could pose a risk to public health (Liu et al. 2012). Thereby, people pay increased
attention to food safety because of increasing environmental contamination (Yu et al. 2014). The
major route by which humans are exposed to these contaminants is through the soil crop food pathway
(Liu et al. 2012). Crops growing on contaminated sites can take up and accumulate these metals,
causing health problems when consumed by humans and animals (Fu et al., 2008). Therefore, the
prolonged consumption of unsafe concentrations of heavy metals may lead to the disruption of
numerous biological and biochemical processes in the human body (Balkhair and Ashraf 2015).
Furthermore, heavy metals

Election Of 1864 Essay
The Election of 1864 was important for many reasons, including the outcome of the Civil War,
Abraham Lincoln s assassination, and the first Presidential Re Elect since 1832. Abraham Lincoln ran
for the Union Party and ran against General George B McClellan and John Fremont. Lincoln was very
pessimistic about his chances of winning the Presidential race, as evidenced by the memorandum he
penned, stating what he would do in the very likely event that he was not re elected. The victories in
Atlanta and Cedar Creek boosted Lincoln s chances of winning immensely. Lincoln eventually won
with a 55/45 split of the popular vote and an electoral landslide. His election eventually lead to the

victory. After the North emerging victorious, slavery was abolished (Achenbach). Lincoln was the first

How Did The Rise Of Islam Influence Western Europe
The rise of Islam brought many important changes to Europe, both physically and culturally. Through
the many conquests of Muhammad and his successors, Muslim dominion, by the middle of the eighth
century, included all of the southern and eastern Mediterranean, as well as Spain. Spain would serve as
a point of invasion for Islamic forces into Western Europe and it would continue to serve as an Islamic
state up until 1492 when its last territory (Granada) fell to Christian forces. Muslim control of the
regions south and east of the Mediterranean led to their domination of the Mediterranean sea and all
the European trade that went on there. All of this contributed to a deep mistrust of Islam from
Europeans, which would make way for the persecutions

Designing a gas pipeline requires four aspects, the first aspect determines the length and direction of
pipeline, the second aspect determines the size of pipes and compressors, the third aspect is to
determine pressure and gas flow distribution in the pipeline transmission system .The fourth aspects
considers the chance of demands for growing of gas over time so the capacity of the system may be
needed to be increased by adding other components in parallel or series. (O. A. Almisned, 2002 )
Moreover, in this research a gas pipeline is designed taking into account the fluid type, transportation
distances, diameter, wall thickness, material selection and other properties to determine the criteria for
the pipeline. A computer programming Pipesim simulator is a steady state, multiphase flow for
designing and badge investigation of gas production systems. in addition to, the programmer
investigates flow line and performance of surface facility to produce full production system analysis.
The cost of setting up underwater pipelines is an important factor in the utilization of offshore natural
gas economics. A suitable design of those networks can facilitate the costs of new discovered fields
into the gathering system which leads to lower prices to the customer and causes profits. This study
considers three main problems in designing pipeline networks expansion. The first problem is the
selection of pipeline network diameters, the second problem, is

Choices In Tangerine By Edward Bloor

his favorite sport, soccer. His parents have been hiding the secret behind his impaired vision from Paul
his entire life and now he learns that he became visually impaired because of his brother and his
brother s friend, Vincent Castro, by getting spray paint forced into his eyes. Eventually, Paul confesses

It was his anger about Luis death that enabled Paul to make this confession. When the cops came to
arrest Arthur for being linked to the death of Luis, [Paul] stood up straight and faced them all, like [he]
had seen Luis do. I saw I heard Erik Fisher tell him to do it (276). The guilt inside Paul over Luis
death quickly turned into anger when Arthur s father tried to convince the cops that Arthur was
innocent. Paul gained this courage because of the presence of the many adults and officers who were
around, making sure that Erik could not get revenge on Paul. The book implied that Erik was going to
jail when the officer said You keep this young man in the house not in the neighborhood, not in the
yard in the house. I may call or come back at any time and I expect him to be here (276). When Paul
confessed, he changed his entire life, because his parents would no longer act as if Erik were the
standard that Paul had to meet. This also helped Paul prove to his parents that Erik was a terrible
person deep down and not destined for greatness the way his parents thought. Paul was brave for
standing up to Erik in front of his family and the police. Most importantly, Paul exposed Erik for what
he really was a cold hearted person who didn t deserve all the attention that he received for being a

  • 2. Kohlberg s Theory Of The Development Of Moral Judgement Critically Evaluate Kohlberg s Theory of the Development of Moral Judgement Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) on moral development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development by interviewing 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. These issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the universal support for Kohlberg s theory is impressive, it does not actually prove that people went through all the stages in the same order that Kohlberg predicted they would. As these participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp, 2007). However, there are limits to how far Kohlberg s theory of morality can be taken. When doing the research to develop his theory Kohlberg only interviewed male participants, completely ignoring the possibility that females could have a different outlook on morality to males. Carol Gilligan (1982, 1993) recognised that this was an issue with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Vision Of A Vision Setting a vision is incredibly important. Because the people impacted by the change are aware of exactly what the goals are and what is expected of them. If it is a compelling vision and people buy into it then it is much easier to make the change happen but if people don t agree it makes the process much harder. Also some people don t want to change how they do things and want to continue doing things exactly how they were in the past (this is a problem). The way that the vision was created is by providing both high level vision statements (long term goals) as well as much more tactical and strategic guidelines for what to do in the short run. The vision is then provided to the team very often and consistently through both emails and town halls from senior management as well as from projects and day to do workload from the directors which ties the work to the long term vision. It is important that people understand how what they are doing is connected to the larger goals. It is also important to acknowledge and reinforce that change takes time and that there is a long term view on success. The strategies used to achieve the vision included: Providing team training on new tools and technologies to make sure that everyone no matter where they came from before had the same foundation to be able to do the job going forward. The vision was repeated and made clear constantly and consistently so that everyone knew what the goals were and what they were working towards. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Allochthon Hypothesis From the above section we already talked about the rocks of Roberts mountains allochthon and autochthon. In this section, we are trying to evaluate the Roberts mountains allochthon and autochthon according to the Mediterranean analog hypothesis proposed by Burchfield and Royden (1991), and modified by Dickinson (2000) rather than island arc collision hypothesis. Burchfield and Royden (1991) cast doubted the island arc collision hypothesis because: 1. the arc west of the North American continent and its structures seem more to face west rather than east. 2. The Havallah basin sediments deposited before and after the emplacement of the Roberts mountains allochthon. 3. Deposition occurred in a paleogeographic location that should have been occupied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the east facing subduction zone, a thrust belt developed as an accretionary prism, and the trench retreated within the subduction zone (slab rollback) caused the thrust to migrate toward the continental margin. As a result, Havallah basin formed within an enlarging extensional region to the west of the trench and thrust belt. So how does slab rollback work? The slab rollback occurs when an older oceanic crust, which may lose heat by thermal contraction or another reason; thus becomes colder and denser than other slabs, then subducting at a steep angle. The slab rollback may pull the upper plate, as the colder slab collapses into the asthenosphere; it can roll back through the mantle. As a result it causes an extension in the overlying plate (example an enlarged extensional region in the Havallah basin) and possibly backarc spreading. Havallah sedimentation began during the emplacement of the allochthon, in an extending region to the west. Low grade rocks formed in the Osgood Mountains were exposed by tectonic unroofing during extension and unconformably overlain by post tectonic Pennsylvanian sedimentary rocks. In the hanging wall of the antler subduction system, arc volcanic that may have been erupted near or within the backarc extension, were extended and subside during or shortly after ... • 6. College Sports Gambling With all of the controversy of gambling in college sports, why is the issue still an issue? The answer is money. There were actions taken towards this by Congress, but the problem is that it was never completely abolished. Congress had made the mistake of creating a way around it. It is now commonly referred to as the Las Vegas loophole. They outlawed the betting nationwide with the exception of one state, one state that is the capital of gambling, Nevada. This has caused few changes, with the exception of the ever growing revenue that it generates. Another reason the legality still remains is one not frequently mentioned, but the question of the ban being constitutional. But no matter what the law, is there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People of all kinds are in agreeance that the impact of this law would hardly be worth the effort. John Shelk, vice president of the American Gaming Association, also stated It s not like Congress is going to pass a law that bans legal gambling, and students across the country will say, ‘Oh my God, I can t gamble anymore because it s illegal. Sen. McCain, co author of last year s Senate bill, had countered his opinion to ESPN.com by saying, I don t think we have to choose between enforcing existing laws on illegal gambling and closing the loophole on legal gambling. McCain added, we can do both. McCain and others claim that eliminating legalized gambling in Nevada would be an essential first step on stopping the college sports gambling. Critics disagree. They believe that the attempt to chip away at illegal sports gambling isn t a logical first step, at all. The fact of the college sports gambling, is that there is too much publicity, popularity, and money surrounding this particular gambling sport. In the beginning there was a problem with popularity. From 1951 1974, there was a 10% excise tax levied by the Federal Government on the amount of sports wagers. The tax made the business unprofitable since the profit margin was generally 5% ... • 7. Negative Portrayals Of Single Parented Parents Coming from a family with a single parent can become a problem within itself, but with only having one parent, the child is faced with being an outcast and classified as different than the rest of the children. When a parent comes from a bad past, society assumes the same for their children. For a child of these type of parents, it is hard to get out of this situation and defy the odds set on them by society. In television shows such as Weeds and Mom, there are many examples of these portrayals of the parents and their children. Negative portrayals in television shows of single parented families through comedic relief gives the children of these families a negative mindset, while being compared to these poor depictions in these shows. A child that has went through this traumatic experience will go through hard times, but will try to look at the positive sides of things that they come to challenge with. In his book, Psychological well being and quality of parenting among children of single parent family, Kiran Sahu stated that The psychological well being includes meaning in life, absence of somatic symptoms, self esteem, positive effect, daily activities, suicidal thoughts, personal control social support, absence of tension and general efficiency (531). The television show, Weeds, focuses on a single mother, Nancy Bloom, who has an early bad depiction in the show. After her husband, Judah, dies unexpectedly, Nancy has to take the center position in her family. After becoming faced with financial problems after her husband s death and dark past coming back to haunt the family, Nancy has to become a drug dealer for her neighborhood and family to survive. Nancy is having to deal with these financial struggles and taking care of her three children: Silas, Shane, and Steven. With having both of their parents in the negative spotlight of the community, these children have a hard time trying to reach success in their city. With the death of Judah and having their mom to rely on, each child acts in different ways. Silas, the oldest, was devastated when his father Judah died, and he took his emotions out on everyone and started depending on drugs to forget about it. In season 1, episode 10 of Weeds, Silas is shown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Un Peacekeeping Has Become An Important Component Of Conflict UN peacekeeping has become an important component of conflict management across the globe, involving complex multi dimensional missions with mandates to help establish long and lasting peace. Peacekeepers represent and help implement the values of international community in their activities in conflict areas. Unfortunately, some peacekeepers have engaged in exploitative and abusive sexual relations with the beneficiary population that they serve. Often these transgressions followed by impunity for a myriad of institutional and cultural reasons. The efforts of the UN to address sexual misconduct are either curtailed by their competences as an organization or deficient. This study argues that the UN would benefit from a new approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A conclusion and discussion follows. II. Sexual Misconduct In Peace Operations The record of peacekeeper sexual misconduct has a long history stretching back as far as the UN mission in Cambodia (UNTAC) in 1992 (Simic, 2009, p. 396; Hebert, 2011, p. 124). The UN was ill prepared for this behavior in peace operations. The UN Special Representative to Cambodia, Yasushi Akashi infamously said in 1993 in response to peacekeeper sexual abuse of the local population: boys will be boys (Neudorfer, 2014, p. 13). In 2000, the UN Security Council (UNSC) adopted Resolution 1325 to begin integrating more women into the peacekeeping process and mainstreaming a gendered perspective in the organization (1325 ####). In 2002, the UNHCR and Save the Children UK issued a report naming more than 40 humanitarian agencies exploiting refugees in West Africa, which served as catalyst for the UN and other agencies to make more effective policies to combat sexual misconduct (Spencer, 2005, p. 172). In 2002, the UN established the Inter Agency Standing Committee Task Force on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in Humanitarian Crises (Hebert, 2011, p. 125). The UN Secretary General (UNSG) issued a bulletin in 2003 to establish a zero tolerance policy for sexual misconduct (Odello Burke, 2016, p. 840; Spencer, 2005, p. 172). The slope represents the average Van t Hoff factor multiplied by the freezing point constant of water, (i)(Kf). Then calculate each trial s Van t Hoff factor by using Equation 2. This originated from the freezing point depression equation: i = ΔT/((Kf)(m)) (Equation 2) The freezing point constant (Kf) of water is 1.86 °C m 1. Each mass amount and Van t Hoff factor was calculated then analyzed in a table. Experiment 2: Experiment 2 focused on finding the enthalpy of solution of magnesium chloride. Testing the enthalpy of solution started with measuring out 10 mL of deionized water in a graduated cylinder for three separate trials, each trial having a different mass of magnesium chloride. The water was then poured into a well of a Styrofoam calorimeter then the initial temperature of water was taken using a temperature probe and the LoggerPro programming. On next day, which is fourth day, it was focused on combat sports such as wrestling, boxing, pankration* and running full armour. It begun with wresting. It was the first events in combat sports, and also first official event in Olympics. In wresting, they did some movements to make their competitor fall down. Whenever a person fall 3 times, they considered lost. In Greek myths, it is said that heroes were often typically good at wrestling. At mid day, there were quite lots of hurts after wresting. Because this sports is quite aggressive and extreme, some people were even killed during games. Boxers normally focused on opponent s head and face. The fast footwork was necessary for competitor to avoid many hits as possible. The final combat event of the fourth day was the pankration, which is meaning all strength in Greece language. Minoan Civilization Essay The Minoan civilization was founded in 3000 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE, whereas the Mycenaean civilization was founded in 1900 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE (Matthews, Noble, Platt, 2014). The Minoan and Mycenaean cultures are found to be in present day Greeks as DNA has revealed to be similar in early farmers (Reich, 2017). The Minoans were the first literate civilization in Europe. One key aspect of the Minoan and Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later was writing. Linear A, a syllabic system that cannot be read by anyone except the Minoans, however, the Mycenaeans produced thousands of Linear B tablets, that contained documents for the government, as well as the Iliad and Odyssey (Matthews et al, 2014). Both Linear A and B are from a syllabic system, which are like the Greek letters. Another key aspect of the Minoan and Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later were metals, such as bronze, copper, tin, silver, and gold (Matthews et al, 2014). CHAPTER I The PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE INTRODUCTION Rationale of the Study Job satisfaction is simply how people feel about their jobs and different aspects of their jobs. It is the extent to which people like (satisfaction) or dislike (dissatisfaction) their jobs. As it is generally assessed, job satisfaction is an attitudinal variable. In the past, job satisfaction was approached by some researchers from the perspective of need fulfilment that is, whether or not the job met the employee s physical and psychological needs for the things provided by work (Cote S., and Morgan LM, 2002). In a report on job satisfaction by the National Center for Education Statistics (2003) revealed many factors that contributed to higher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking in to account that most of these teachers are working away from their home and family and could only go home weekly, or the least once a month due to the distance of the schools they are assigned. However, districts located in the hinterland such as Paquibato, had most number of teacher applicants every year. Reason of this scenario could be the fact that many teachers are applying for transfer to the nearby schools after a one or two years of service and that applicant could be hired easily. Nevertheless, some teachers had tenured in this district up to their retirement period and some had flourished and raised their professional status and positions. The ground for conducting this study is that it is intended to shed light on what influences how teachers feel about their work and profession so that positive job related attitudes may be cultivated. Theoretical Background The Maslow s hierarchy of needs theory, a motivation theory, laid the foundation for job satisfaction theory. It is founded in the premise that goals or needs underpin by being the fundamental source of all desires. This theory explains that people seek to satisfy five specific needs in life physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, self esteem needs, and self actualization. In the levels of the five basic needs, the person does not feel the second need until the demands of the first

Interpretation of the Balcony Scene by Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli of William Shakespreare s Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a famous love story written by William Shakespeare. Two interpretations were made of this text into a film by the two directors, Baz Luhrmann (1996) and Franco Zeffirelli (1968). The films use different types of media to portray the characters and the overall context of Shakespeare s play. This version is different to the text as Juliet does not say her famous lines from the balcony, but comes down from her room to the pool outside, where she recites her lines with passion thinking of her dear Romeo. In Zeffirelli s account of the film, Romeo is shown down below in the bushes whereas Juliet is the higher and more powerful person out of the two of them, and she is shown as the higher person sitting on the balcony. Using Deep Structured Learning Or Deep Machine Learning Essay INTRODUCTION Deep Learning (or deep structured learning, or hierarchical learning or deep machine learning) is a branch of Machine Learning which is based on a set of algorithms that attempts to model high level abstractions in data by using a deep graph with multiple processing layers which are composed of multiple non linear and linear transformations. Applying Deep Learning to Building Automation Sensors Sensors such as motion detectors, photocells, CO2 and smoke detectors are used primarily for energy savings and safety, in building automation. However, next generation buildings are intended to be significantly more intelligent, having the capability to analyze space utilization, monitor occupants comfort, and thereby generate business intelligence. Building automation infrastructure that supports such robust features, requires considerably richer information. Since the current sensing solutions are limited in their ability to address this need, a new generation of smart sensors are required which enhances the flexibility, reliability, granularity and accuracy of the data they provide. Data Analytics at the Sensor Node The latest era of Internet of Things (IoT), there arises an opportunity to introduce a new approach to building automation that will decentralize the architecture and push the analytics processing to the sensor unit instead of a central server or cloud. For example, if someone has too much to drink, let a bartender or another party goer know that a person has had too much to drink and that they need to make sure no one takes advantage of them. By delegated you are making sure that the intoxicated individual is taken care of by one person or more. Distance Education Essay Distance Education Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies time and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat, 1998, p.1). The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer need to bridge physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as possible to those who are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them (Tam, 1998, p.3). According to Arlene Krebs of New Orbit Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance learning is a combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional technologist come into play)? Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to foster learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively rich learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998, p.4). Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). • 25. Sonnet XX Of Fatal Interview By Edna St. Vincent Millay Love is a really beautiful thing, but it isn t everything you have to live for. In life, you will need many things other than love to survive. In Sonnet XXX of Fatal Interview by Edna St. Vincent Millay, a poem written as a Shakespearean sonnet, an anonymous speaker discusses how your world doesn t revolve around love yet you need it in your your life. The sonnet starts off with the speaker s direct objective of informing the reader Love is not all but ends with an opposing purpose that they would not give up love for anything. In order for the speaker to figure out the importance and value of love to themselves, they will have to learn the difference between what they truly desire and require. To emphasize the significance of love to a human being s survival, the poem begins with the many aspects that love isn t capable of. By stating the ways love is useless in providing as a necessity of life, the speaker is able to persuade the reader(s) that it serves no real purpose. Displaying the a b a parts of a Shakespearean sonnet rhyme scheme, love is not meat or drink nor slumber nor a roof against the rain; nor yet a floating spar to men that sink, (Millay 1 3) it holds no practical value. It can t provide you with food and shelter you from nature or even help you to survive. In other words, these stanzas connected the image of love to an idea of uselessness in surviving. For this reason, the speaker continues on with listing love s other incapabilities, aside from food and shelter. These incapabilities continue to build the image of how expendable love is. By further downgrading love s practical value, it leads to the question of whether love serves any purpose in life at all. In these four stanzas, Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath, nor clean the blood, nor set the fractured bone; yet many a man is making friends with death even as I speak, for lack of love alone, (Millay 5 8) alliteration is displayed along with the addition of a contrasting idea. In these areas, agriculture faces a major problem due to heavy metal transfer into crops and subsequently into the food chain (Puschenreiter et al. 2005). The main problem is that heavy metals are non biodegradable, and their excessive accumulation in agricultural soils could pose a risk to public health (Liu et al. 2012).
