Analysis Of Three Generations Of Punishment By Anderson...
Three Generations Of Punishment , a 60 Minutes interview conducted by Anderson Cooper, is a
thought provoking look inside North Korea s political work camps. In this interview, we speak to Shin
Dong hyuk, former resident, and escapee of one of said concentration camps, Camp 14. One hundred
and fifty thousand people inhabit Camp 14, which lies fifty miles outside of the city of Pyongyang.
This camp, as well as many others, follow the Three Generations of Punishment policy
institutionalized by former leader of North Korea, Kim Il Sung. This law decrees that if someone
commits a political wrongdoing, he, and the two generations after him, will live in work camps for
their whole lives as a form of punishment. Kim Il Sung put this system

Control In A Tale Of Two Cities
Taking Control of your Life
In a lifetime, life will drag us down to the deepest, darkest, caverns, where the darkness suffocates any
sign of hope or light, but with hard work and dedication there will be a chance to submerge into a new
age of opportunity. This English historical fictional novel has evolved English composition, A Tale Of
Two Cities, by Charles Dickens demonstrates the birth of a new, changed life. Some of the most
successful people to ever live have been re born from losses of money, or moral. People like Bill
Gates, Walt Disney, Thomas Edison, and many more have dropped out of school, lost money, been
rejected by their families and companies only to rise and to crush the darkness with their hope. There s
beauty in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the time period of when A Tale of Two Cities was published Dickens was having a battle of
depression in his life. He saw no hope with his wife and had thought to have too many children to
keep watch of. He then in 1858 separated from his wife which was a year before publishing A Tale of
Two Cities. Dickens was able to transfer his emotions and feelings into his piece A Tale of Two Cities.
Sadly, Dickens life continued to go downhill as his brother died a few years later and other family
members continue to die. In 1860 Charles tried burning his personal papers . Him separating from his
wife was something widely public, but what wasn t known was that he had a mistress who was fairly
younger than him. Dickens in many of his writings gives characters who have lives of poverty, enter
through the gates of opportunity, but there is no happy, romantic ending. In Great Expectations Pip
grows to be a gentleman, but ends up being alone with nobody to love him or give affection, just like
Dickens. His heart becomes a stone wall with three layers of concrete to let no one in. During Charles
Dickens lifetime he was at the top of life and at the bottom of his life, resurrecting back from the
darkest place to what seemed to be a golden age, using characters Dr. Manette and Sydney

Biomechanics of Wrestling Suplex
The origins and history of wrestling date back as far as 15,000 years with depictions of wrestling
found in cave drawings in France. Wrestling is one of the oldest historical sports rivaled only by track
and field, and has been seen in ancient literature and games of Greece and early Egypt. The most
notable influence of wrestling comes from the Olympics, where it was introduced in 708BC . There
are many forms of wrestling including Greco Roman, Freestyle, Folk style, and Catch wrestling; all of
which operate at different levels and have unique sets of rules. Freestyle wrestling is one of the most

Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1
The Revolutionary Era was a turbulent time in American History. The voices of revolution rang from
all over the colonies. King George III was seen as a tyrant, Britain s taxes were oppressing, and the
colonist s sought political freedom at last. However, this movement towards freedom did not spur
overnight. Leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine used their skills as an author and
orator to persuade others to join the revolution. Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 boosted soldier s
morale and urged them to continue bravely in their fight against Britain. Thomas Jefferson s
Declaration of Independence formally removed Great Britain from their rule over the colonies.
Jefferson used powerful and moving statements to list the reasons for the colonies separation.
Although Paine and Jefferson s writing aided in the persuasion of political leaders; many colonists
were not able to read these powerful political works. Had the writing of Paine and Jefferson been
easily accessible for colonists, Paine s The Crisis No. 1. would have caused a greater effect on the
colonists perspectives than Jefferson s Declaration of Independence.
During the American Revolution, morale was low and many colonists wanted to give up their fight
against the British and return home. General George Washington wanted to encourage his troops to
remain strong in their fight. In order to do this, General Washington had Thomas Paine s The Crisis
No. 1. read to his soldiers. Thomas Paine wrote The Crisis

The Themes And Differences Of Star Wars And Star Trek
Star Wars and Star Trek are both a part of the science fiction genre and are about space exploration.
They both take place in the far reaches of the galaxies, on unique planets with imaginative and distinct
species. In both series the planets are united in some way, Star Trek has The United Federation of
Planets and Star Wars has the Galactic Empire. They both have a ship that they are famous for, Star
Wars has the Millennium Falcon and the Death Star while Star Trek has the USS Enterprise. Each ship
has similar means of transportation, Star Trek has warp drive where Star Wars has Hyperspace. There
are differences in the main objective of both series. Star Wars is mainly about conflict, a constant
battle between the light and the dark as the characters strive to balance their sides of the force.
Whereas Star Trek is mainly about peace, space exploration and going where no man has gone before.
Star Trek is a bit more logical and grounded in science while Star Wars induces supernatural elements
such as the force. Therefore, Star Trek is science fiction while Star Wars can mainly be thought of a
science fantasy. In addition to science, Star Trek focuses on topics like ethics and morality and
problem solving. Star Trek often tried to tackle controversial topics in society and to teach its viewer s
life lessons such as acceptance to diversity. In 1968 Star Trek aired the episode Plato s Stepchildren
where Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura Kissed. This kiss is considered

Citizen Science Research Paper
Citizen Science Essay When people read science articles, it s assumed that all the data calculated
comes from the publishers themselves, but that s not the case anymore. Many people are beginning to
become more involved in a plethora of projects near their neighborhoods, and by doing so are giving
scientist more data that can hopefully create change and have an effect on their ongoing projects. In
1990, in a Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, this act was given a name (Haven, Henderson 1).

Cohn, author of the Oxford Journal article Citizen Science: Can Volunteers Do Real Research? says
that data collected by individuals can be trusted if we [professionals] explain to them [individuals]
what they should be doing and how to do it then the data s reliability isn t questioned (3). This further
supports my opinion that the data collected from many individuals can be trusted to be valid. By being
a participant of this project, I have noticed how many plants are very common in Los Angeles. An
example of this is that many Angelinos have cacti s as plants either for decoration or as part of their
gardens. This is important because it shows that many people are conscious of the water crisis we are
currently experiencing in Los Angeles by having cacti as their choice of plant. Also, many hospitals in
the area highlighted seem to use the same flora like the Bird of Paradise flower. Therefore, by
gathering data we are not only helping researchers fulfill their projects but actively getting individuals
to learn more about their community and what flora and fauna are most common in certain areas, and
be conscious of what they can do to help wildlife that are dwindling in the area survive, and hopefully

What do astronomers think the universe was like the instant before the Big Bang? Astronomers
believe the whole universe started with that we re shrunk to a billionth of its normal size into a place
infinitesimally tiny. Then you must pack that minuscule space about an ounce of matter. Then you are
ready to start the universe. To imagine this you need to gather every last particle of matter between
this and the edge of creation and fir it into a spot so close together it really does not posses any
dimensions at all. This concept or idea is known as singularity. Outside of the singularity there is no
other place, because the universe was created from this singularity so before this singularity there was
no universe.
What do astronomers think happened in the universe in the few minutes after the Big Bang? In a
single moment the universe starts expanding exponentially. The singularity assumes dimensions, space
beyond conception. In less than a minute, the universe is so much more than a billion miles across and
still expanding. Now there is 10 billion degrees of heat which is enough to start the nuclear reactions

Slac Team Work Experience
My work experience at SLAC was definitely a unique one. Everything was on point from Diedre s
phone call about the interview to when I started the internship. I really appreciated Diedre for always
keeping us informed of the status of the internship. The HR team were always on top with their stuff:
the paper works, the background checks, setting up the interviews, and just simply making sure that
we had everything we needed once we started on our first day. It was a privileged to be a part of the
OCFOs team. Although I enjoyed taking the inventory of the content on OCFO s website and

When I was talking to the main SME from the budget office, he was unsure about most of the contents
on their SharePoint site. He would often make assumptions on some of the contents without
consulting with the owner of the page or who was in charge of that particular page. For example,
Person 1 told me that all the documents before 2013 on the budget office could be archived; however,
when I talked to person 2 (this page was his specialist), he told me that he would like to still keep
documents from 2005 because he is still using it for historical references. This happened a couple of
times with the budget office. In my opinion, there is a lack of interaction and awareness of other
people s job within the budget office. As for the SCM team, I know that one of the SMEs was
frustrated because someone with permission was able moved their documents from one place to
another. He would preferred if that person did not have permission to their site so that it will not cause
any confusion later on. For some people, they believe that not everybody should have permissions to
certain sites; this will only cause discrepancy and confusion for the team. I think it is really beneficial
if there was meeting to reorganize permissions to certain sites as well as discussing the contents within

With the loss of tax revenue, the government is going to be forced to completely restructure their
current budget protocol. With the mass amounts of tax breaks given across the wealthy, there is going
to be lower taxes available to use for government ran programs. These programs are extremely
important the success of many Americans across the nation. Without a lot of these programs such as;
SNAP, Welfare, Social Security, Unemployment, millions of citizens wouldn t be able to live. These

Inside the proposals made recently is a massive corporate tax cut from 39% all the way down to 20%.
This would be a major benefit to corporations in paying less taxes and potentially keeping more
business inside the United States. A big reason as to why many companies place headquarters in other
countries, is that our marginal corporate tax rate is relatively high compared to the rest of the world.
The average around the world is right around 22% (tax foundation citation), whilst some countries like
Ireland is sitting at an extremely low 12.5%. This encourages companies like Apple, to move their
headquarters to Ireland and enjoy a much lower tax rate. The policies inside the U.S. however, state
that even though their headquarters are in Ireland, that they are still required to pay taxes to the U.S.
Until they pay that number they are not allowed to move money and spend it inside the United States.
Trump s proposal would also massively cut the amount of taxes they have owed us for the previous
years as another part of the stimulus package. This package is what he is heavily relying on paying for
the massive amounts of tax cuts. But with how our current economic setup is, and our looming debt,
we need these corporations to put up all the amount they owe the government. The U.S. is not in
desperate need for an immediate stimulus package, the GDP is the highest it has ever been and has

Essay on Water Long Hr Case Study
The performance of the Nuclear Tube Assembly Room has been significantly improved by Walter
Long s method of highly motivating his workers. The recommendations laid out in the Process
Engineer Proposal (PEP) will damage both the workers morale and Mr. Long s current success in the
NTAR. In order to successfully start the LDTC and maintain the improved performance of the NTAR,
I recommend the PEP be rejected and your company create a new proposal that (1) limits Harold
Singer s interaction with the NTAR employees; (2) has no fixed station assignment; (3) has no process
specifications; and (4) combines testing with operation.

each individual to perform at the highest level and benefit from the overall result.
Autonomy
Workers chose jobs that were most suitable for their skillset and simultaneously satisfied the
preferences and needs of the department. The room applied flexible scheduling and Mr. Long
decentralized decision making so that workers were free to choose how and when to do their tasks.
There were no supervisors in the room. Workers performances did not vary when the managers
appeared or not. They experienced responsibility for outcomes of their work.
Feedback
Mr. Long utilized employee evaluation sheets to give periodic reviews to his workers. He was always
careful and insistent that workers were given credit for everything they did. There exists a mutual
respect and trust between Mr. Long and workers so that workers never hide their mistakes from him. It
was the credits and rewards, rather than Mr. Long himself, that drove workers to get more done or
advance their knowledge and skills.
In total, all the core job dimensions led to both personal and corporate victories. The group enjoyed
high levels of job fulfillment and satisfaction with labor. They had high internal work motivation, high

The Tragic Demise Of Anne Boleyn
More than the simple absorbing of facts, the study of history relies heavily on the interpretation of said
facts to reconstruct events as closely to the truth as possible. Historians go through evidences and
interpret them, accepting some as crucial, dismissing others as unimportant or circumstantial at best.
This means that no two historians are going to see an event in the exact same way or give equal
weight to the same piece of evidence. The tragic demise of Anne Boleyn is one of those events in
history that has been observed from any and all possible angle in order to understand what truly
happened. And still, historians often disagree. This paper will attempt to show four historians

Bernard recognises that there is evidence in Chapuys , the imperial ambassador, writing but he argues
that said evidence of a political plot only occurred once Anne was already being investigated and
therefore offers little proof that the men in questions were the cause. He admits that the men executed
were members of the King s Privy Chamber, but comments on the fact that the group was neither very
coherent nor that politically powerful. Bernard also comments on the fact that this entire theory relies
on the assumption that Anne and the others were innocent, which he disagrees with. He mostly bases
his interpretation of events on a French poem written by someone with close access to the court.
According to Bernard, this poem sheds some light on how the accusations against Anne came forward
in the quarrel between a lady in the court, Lady Worcester, and her brother who accused her of
adultery. In her defense she then accused the Queen of even worst, including incest with her own
brother. He also gives a lot of importance to one of the accused s confession. Mark Smeaton confessed
his relationship with Anne and remained consistent in his admission of guilt up until his execution. All
of which is mentioned both in Chapuys and in De Carles poem. Furthermore, Anne s brother Rochford
always denied the incestuous relationship with his sister but never denied the other accusations of
spreading stories about the King s impotence or doubting his niece s

Letter To The Ephesians
The book of Ephesians was written by the Apostle Paul, to the saints at Ephesus. It is suggested that
Paul wrote this letter around 60 AD, while imprisoned in Rome. The biblical author of Acts, Luke,
eludes to Paul s imprisonment in Rome in Acts 28. Paul initially identifies himself as the author of the
letter to the Ephesians in his greeting in Ephesians 1:1 and again in 3:1. To further identify himself
Paul often makes particular references to himself in the body of the letter to the Ephesians (c.f.
Ephesians 3:3, 7, 13; 4:1; 6:19). Ephesus was a major city in Asia Minor. It was considered an affluent
seaport. It was a capital in the Roman Province of Asia, what is today western Turkey. It was a median
to Greek and Near Eastern culture.

Dirty Dancing
Dirty Dancing is a 1987 film directed by Emile Ardolino, produced by Linda Gottlieb, edited by Peter
C. Frank, and filmed by cinematographer Jeff Jur. Dirty Dancing stars principal actors Jennifer Grey
as Baby, Patrick Swayze as Johnny, Jerry Orbach as Dr. Jake Houseman (Baby s dad), Kelly Bishop as

Introduction
Dirty Dancing is a film based on Baby Houseman, a 17 year old girl who is spending her last care free

For example, when Baby is finally getting the dance moves, when Baby and Johnny meet in the room
and become intimate, and in the second intimate scene between Baby and Johnny. These scenes used
close ups because they foreshadowed the relationship developing between Baby and Johnny and the
future events to come; these scenes helped the audience get into their relationship. With the use of
close ups, the audience was really able to see the little subtle movements Baby and Johnny were doing
via their facial expressions and able to see the chemistry they had. In addition, in serious or significant
scenes close ups were used. Examples of this are when Baby is crying with her dad, when Baby and
Lisa are bonding, when Dr. Houseman finds out about Robbie, and when Dr. Houseman accepts
Johnny. In these scenes, the director utilized close ups because they were important moments in the
movie. In the scene where Baby is crying with her dad, her dad realizes he messed up too by judging
Johnny off the bat even if he s too prideful to admit it. In the scene with Baby and Lisa, they use a
close up because this is the first moment Lisa and Baby are getting along and bonding as sisters. In
that scene, you can see how Lisa is trying to sympathize with Baby and what she s feeling. And in the
scene with Robbie and when Dr. Houseman accepts Johnny close ups were used because it changed or

Can renewable sources of energy effectively replace fossil fuels?
Can renewable sourves of energy effecticely replace fossil fuels? Is the question of the century.the
answer to this question could profouldly change the world, it could put us In a new era a one for the
better. But due to the largest oil and gas companies exxon mobil, royal dutch shell, bp, Sinopec and
bureaucracy the steps are not being taken to insure our future. The government is corrupted, State
officials rather than elected representatives are making all the decisions. Burning fossil fuels
negatively affects the environment because they release carbon dioxide and other gases that trap heat
in the Earth s atmosphere, which contributes to global climate change. But due to bureaucracy global
climate change is still considered a myth
Why is climate change ignored? Two realities threaten the well being of future generations. The first is
global warming. In the words of the most recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change, each of the last three decades has been successively warmer at the earth s surface than any

his morality and character through many actions and decisions. King Henry is the most significant

As we read in the play, King Henry has many speeches that were made to determine his English
soldiers. For example, Henry refers to his soldiers as more closely impacted names like brother and
friend. Henry speaks very sophisticated and pumps up his men to be just as eager to fight as he was.
Most of Henry s speeches were uplifting and had a very happy and fierce tone to them, so not only he
would display seriousness and also uplifting attitudes. Henry s speeches work magic on his soldiers
and is a type of manipulation to work with the King to get what he wants. Even though manipulation
is usually a harsh term, it is needed when it comes to fighting in a war! King Henry used his words
very intelligently to push on the soldiers to fight for their mighty King Henry. One of the last qualities
about King Henry that supports his morality was his intelligence. Through out the play King Henry
had many big decisions whether it be to go to war, who to bring, when to go, and all these other
conflicts. I believe that Henry used his intelligence in many positive ways. When King Henry was
about to bring his troops in to fight France, he borrowed a cloak and dressed up as a soldier. I thought
this was a very intelligent thing to do because he talked to the soldiers to find out what they were
thinking and what was going through their mind. This was a very smart strategy because normally the
soldiers wouldn t speak to the king like they would to each other. Instead of the lies and

Containerisation
What is containerization and how did the innovative use of containers transform the distribution of
goods? Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a unitised form suitable for
transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch, 1996, p.194). The simple principle of the
container has undoubtedly made the global economy grow, and brought the world closer together
through ease of transportation (Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). To be able to use one single sized unit
for the transportation of goods was the ultimate solution to transporting cargo, which was becoming
larger part of global trade, and helped put shipping into the modern age. In 1956, Malcolm McLean
used an innovative idea to transport 58 trailer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and improves stock
control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the distribution of goods in allowing a
greater selection of cargo to travel further than it was previously capable of. So what about the costs?
The container made shipping cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s idea, it was thought
that the costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States exports, and could be as high
as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to product price have fallen sharply.
(Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers and ships that is responsible for the transportation
costs, the larger normal routes, the increasing competition between the major container ship operators,
such as Maesrk and Evergreen, the investment in modernising crane handling equipment and the
logistics, have all had an impact. Before containerisation, businesses thought of distribution as a series
of processes, ships, trucks and trains. Somebody had to move every box and pallet, and could easily
consume half the cost of shipping. Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . With goods
waiting in warehouses ready to be moved onto the next stage, transferring and delays made shipments
slow and the delivery times erratic. The introduction of containers meant that for the first time, cargo
could be locked away when in storage. Whiskey was

New Zealand s Early Embrace Of Women s Voting Rights Essay
1. New Zealand s early embrace of women s voting rights has become a key part of its identity as a
world leading, progressive democracy. (Atkinson, 2015).
When New Zealand first became colony it was widely accepted that women were best suited for
domestic tasks and men were fit for public life and politics. Women were kept separate from the world
of politics, similar to many European societies at the time (Ministry for Culture and Heritage, 2014).
Some women began to challenge these narrow minded views during the late 19th century. Secondary
schools, universities, charity groups and churches began to offer opportunities to women; particularly
those from wealthy or middle class families. Women soon turned their attention to their political and
legal rights. Thus, a movement for women s rights emerged gaining momentum from the mid 1880s.
In 1891 1893 women s suffrage campaigners, led by Kate Sheppard, assembled a number of huge
petitions asking that Parliament grant women the right to vote. In 1891 over 9000 New Zealanders
signed, in 1892 nearly 20,000, and in 1893 nearly 32,000 signatures were gathered which was equal to
about a quarter of the adult European female population of New Zealand (Ministry for Culture and
Heritage, 2016).
In April 1893 Richard Seddon became Prime Minister of New Zealand following the death of John
Ballance. On the 8th of September 1893 following the presentation of the third petition, a bill was
passed. In an attempt to embarrass Seddon (who

Throughout Wise Blood, written by Flannery O Connor, it is often of the predominant character, Hazel
Motes, that one of his most distinguishing features is his eyes and how they connect to who he is and
how he defines himself. For example, the readers first encounter with Haze is from the perspective of
the many train passengers. Each noticing that ... he didn t look, to her, much over twenty, but he had a
stiff black broad brimmed hat on his lap, a hat that an elderly country preacher would wear (O Connor
4). To them, he was a soldier, just relieved of duty and on his way home. However, he was not going
home. He had no home and was in search of a new purpose in life. The preachers hat that Hazel
always wears is just one of the symbols O Connor uses to reveal the theme of her work. Symbols in
literature are often used to portray a bigger picture, express a deeper meaning or foreshadow an event,
however in Wise Blood, O Connor uses symbols such as a car, eyes and colors to portray the main
characters; inner conflict about religiosity. As a young boy Hazel, also referred to as Haze, aspired to
become a preacher. He grew up watching his grandfather preach on top of a car. Yet, each time his

If something is described as being hazel, it is often defined as mixture between blue and green. It is
hazy and a blur to depict the color. This correlates with Haze s struggle in believing in a God or
believing in nothing. Eyesight is also referenced when analyzing a certain characters look on faith. If a
character truly believed in there being a Jesus Christ, their vision literally and metaphorically was
clear. Asa Hawks was portrayed as being blind however, he could see perfectly well. Towards the end
of the novel, when the Essex was pushed over the edge, the officer s eyes were noted as clear .

Companies often divide up work as a way to improve efficiency, but specialization can lead to
negative consequences. DrainFlow is a company that has effectively used specialization to reduce
costs relative to its competitors costs for years, but rising customer complaints suggest the firm s
strong position may be slipping. After reading the case, you will suggest some ways it can create more
interesting work for employees. You ll also tackle the problem of finding people qualified and ready to
perform the multiple responsibilities required in these jobs.

The most frequent complaints Lee found in the customer surveys were about response time and cost,
especially when the wrong person was sent to a job. A plumber s assistant cannot complete a more
technically complicated job. The appointment has to be rescheduled, and the customer s time and the
staff s time have been wasted. The resulting delay often caused customers in these situations to decline
further contact with DrainFlow many of them decided to go with Lightning Plumber.
When I arrive at a job I can t take care of, says plumber s assistant Jim Larson, the customer gets
ticked off. They thought they were getting a licensed plumber, since they were calling for a plumber.
Telling them they have to have someone else come out doesn t go over well.
On the other hand, when a plumber responds to a job easily handled by a plumber s assistant, the
customer is still charged at the plumber s higher pay rate. Licensed plumber Luis Berger also does not
like being in the position of giving customers bad news. If I get called out to do something like snake
a drain, the customer isn t expecting a hefty bill. I m caught between a rock and a hard place I don t set
the rates or make the appointments, but I m the one who gets it from the customer. Plumbers also
resent being sent to do such simple work.

How Are Creation Myths Created
The world started with nothing but how did everything come to be? How did water come to be? How
were animals created? How were humans formed? Science may give us many answers but some
things are still missing. Creation myths help fill the hole that science has left us with and, it gives us a
good basis on how the earth was formed. All the creation myths explain the whereabouts about the
essentials of the earth and they tell a story that helps people comprehend the massive undertaking that
has taken place. The creation myths start at the beginning. For example in the Aztecs believed that In
the beginning was the void. It was at some ancient time in the Aztec creation story that the dual god,

The Language Learning Of The Infants
Less than 1 percent of American adults today are proficient in a foreign language that they studied in a
U.S. classroom, states Friedman in the Atlantic. That s noteworthy considering that in 2008 almost all
high schools in the country 93 percent offered foreign languages (Friedman). This is because of, as
Marshall notes, widespread belief that adults will inevitably have problems and will certainly never
become fluent, while children are supposed to pick up languages with ease . However, study after
study has shown the procedure of language learning of the infants. The essential elements of learning
a language lie in your ears and the way you process to the language. Although there is a widespread
myth in learning a language children aquire a language much easier than adults do the innate ability of
adults language acquisition are basically as same as that of children s.
(Listening and speaking) Adults have hard time understanding what people are saying in a foreign
language. They think they don t know what they are saying because of their lack of vocabulary, but it
turns out they cannot even understand a word that they know when it comes into a sentence. They are
so desperated and think it s too late for them to acquire it. However, this phenomena you cannot catch
the language is pretty normal. As the first step of the language acquisition, the infants tune their ears to
make their ears perceptual to the language. Marcia Barinaga in the journal Science

The Poem Give Thanks by Sandra Maria Esteves
A mother is the first touch, voice and sight a baby has when he or she is born. They rely on their
mother to provide them with a safe environment, food and comfort. Being a mother comes with great
responsibility and a life long job that the work gets harder every day. Although I myself am not a
mother, I have seen this job played out from my own mother who provides her children with a great
life. Some mothers are not ready for this job, yet selfishly still choose to keep their children because
they are too proud to allow someone else provide their baby with the life they deserve. Child

A way a child could be abandoned is if the baby is left on a doorstep of a stranger or a church. Leaving
a child at a church is very common and they will eventually be reported to the police. From there the
child will most likely be brought to a foster home where they will further place the child with a family
who will protect and love the child like their own. The parent or the person legally in charge of taking
care of the child will be found and face serious criminal charges. The criminal charges would include
abandonment and endangering a child. The effects this abandonment has on a child are ever lasting
and may not go away with therapy or being adopted. According to the article The Neglect Of Child
Neglect: A Meta Analytic Review Of The Prevalence Of Neglect it states, Infancy is recognized as the
period between the second postnatal month and two years, previous to the mid childhood. In humans
the period is extremely sensitive to maternal investment mother dependence for survival, and is
characterized by rapid neural growth (Stoltenborgh, Bakermans Kranenburg, Ijzendoorn). The child
develops neurological damage due to being left by the person who was supposed to care and protect

Homelessness Is More Than Ruthlessness Essay
Homelessness is about more than ruthlessness. A home is not just a physical space; it also has a legal
and a social dimension. A home provides roots, identity, and a sense of belonging and a place of
emotional wellbeing. Homelessness is about the loss of all of these. It is an isolating and destructive
experience and homeless people are some of the most vulnerable and socially excluded in our society.
After years of declining trends, 2010 marked the turning point when all forms of homelessness began
to rise. However, it is likely that homelessness will increase yet further, as the delayed effects of the
economic downturn, cuts to housing benefit and other reforms all start to bite.
A survey of people experiencing homelessness found that over 70 per cent were suffering from a
physical health problem. This included respiratory problems, joint and muscle problems and stomach
problems.
There are many reasons why a person becomes homeless lack of affordable housing, loss of a job,
divorce, illness, substance abuse, domestic abuse. One of the first steps you can take toward helping
the homeless is trying to understand how they got there in the first place.
Homeless people can be affected by various situations such as health and mental issues, family issues

12 Ways Spoonies Cope With the Stress of Chronic Illness
As I ve mentioned in earlier posts, Instagram has become an absolute treasure trove of practical
information for people living with chronic illness. Here are 12 ways spoonies just like you cope with
the stress of living with an invisible illness while having fun at the same time!
Being Stubborn
When living with a chronic illness, stubbornness can be both your best and your worst asset. On the
one hand, you re incredibly determined to not let your condition get the best of you, on the other, you
tend to overdo it.
Still, being tenacious and having a fighting spirit is one of the most effective ways to cope with the
stress of chronic illness.

Using Social Media
Connecting with others who understand exactly what you re going through can be a life saver. There is
a very large and accepting group of people on social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, and
Instagram who continually support each other and help ease the burden of daily pain.
Look for hashtags such as, #spoonie, #chronicillness, #chronicpain, and #chroniclife.
Watching Mindless Movies
Distracting yourself from your pain can be a very healthy way to cope with the stress of living with a
chronic illness.
Watching a movie you don t have to pay attention to, means you have two socially acceptable hours to
stare at one fixed object, let your mind wander, and relax.
(Alternatively, you can get lost in the ridiculous plot and forget your troubles for a while.)
Napping Like It s Your Job
I don t know about you, but napping is, by far, my favorite way to cope with my fatigue, anxiety, and
feelings of overwhelm. When things get to be too much, I slip in my earbuds, turn on some soothing
music, recline in my chair, and take a nap.
Sleeping, like crying, is not a sign of weakness or laziness. It s simple self care, and it s important to
engage in it regularly.
Setting and Accomplishing Small Goals
Another piece of useful advice I got from a fellow spoonie is setting small goals.

Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1 Background
The Report presents a hybrid neural network solution, which compares favorably with other methods
and recognizes a person within a large database of faces. These neural systems typically return a list of
most likely people in the database. Often only one image is available per person. First a database is
created, which contains images of various persons. In the next stage, the available images are trained
and stored in the database. Finally it classifies the authorized person s face, which is used in security
monitoring system. Faces represent complex, multidimensional, meaningful visual stimuli and
developing a computational model for face recognition is difficult. Face has certain distinguishable
landmarks that are the peaks and valleys that sum up the different facial features. There are about 80
peaks and valleys on a human face. The following are a few of the peaks and valleys that are measured
by the software:
*Distance between eyes
*Width of nose
*Depth of eye sockets
*Cheekbones

The ability to be an adaptive leader and to utilize and apply changes while keeping a positive attitude
is a must. I will display cognitive flexibility by using strategic thinking having multiple plans to cover
any unexpected factors along the along the way. By doing this my supervisors and peers will have
faith in my decision making, while I keep my subordinates on the right track to complete the mission.
I will practice dispositional flexibility by remaining optimistic at all times, encouraging my
subordinates along the way, expressing the importance of the task and inspiring everyone to remain
motivated. This in return will motivate my peers and supervisors, giving them a piece of mind during
stressful or unpredictable situations. Lastly, I will utilize emotional flexibility, to not only manage my
own emotions but the emotions of others. This can require me to take different approaches to
individuals on my team due to multiple personalities. If my subordinates remain emotionally stable
my peers will feel more comfortable working alongside me and my team, thus allowing the leaders to
have complete faith we can complete any task while keeping our emotions under control. By
remaining an adaptable and flexible leader the insight I will have on my leadership, peers, and Airmen

Darden Essay
Darden Restaurants lead the casual dining industry producing $7 billion dollars in revenue each year.
Based on the strategic spectrum of segmentation, Darden restaurants target different demographics

How does Darden segment and target the sit down dining market? Use the full spectrum of
segmentation variables in your response.
Home of the casual dining experience, Darden has made up about 39% of all sit down restaurant

characteristics. The most common type of segmentation is done by focusing marketing energy on a
specific demographic. Each Darden restaurant caters to a different segment. The different segments

restaurants and why it s important to keep them separate. Similar menu items in the wrong

so easy to come by. The reasons for the different structures would be for the excitement that you get
from entering the restaurant. Which is an example of the psychological segmentation that Darden has

Man vs. Self Conflicts in The Lord of the Flies by...
Though The Lord of the Flies never describes a Man vs. Self conflict, there is indeed a definite enemy
among the islanders; haplessly being themselves. Moreover, the retrenchment of the refined attitudes
of the islanders being amended into that of irrational savages is culpable for the tragedies conducted
by the islanders throughout the story. This sort of ancillary and visceral enemy that the islanders
impinge upon is thus apposite to the Man vs. Self conflict style.
To begin, there is a detectable amount of referencing to savagery throughout the story and often it is
what to blame for much of the conflicts in the book as aforementioned. For instance, the frequent and
acerbic collisions among Jack and Ralph with Piggy often describe either Ralph or Jack becoming
savage. In fact, every incident in the book adumbrates to the presence savagery at least peripherally.
For instance, the diurnal (adding wood to fire) was a custom that would most likely have led to the
boys being rescued had they not construed of the existence of a mythical Beast which never transpired
in the physical realm. This conjured beast of superstitious properties precluded an early rescue when it
was created without conferring with logic.
This misconstrued perception heaped upon another was sufficient to effect the death of Simon s very
own life.
As for Piggy s death at Roger s hands, it could be blamed by the diffident Roger s innately sadistic
behaviour that merely inured to a land that

Why I Don T Get Mammograms By Veneta Masson
While having regular mammograms every two years does not guarantee you will not get cancer, it
may however detect the disease early. Cancer screening makes sense; identify and treat cancer before
you know it s there. The theory behind this is to catch cancer in the initial stages and it will be more
curable. This in turn, reduces deaths due to the disease. Nurse Practitioner Veneta Masson, author of
Why I don t Get Mammograms argues the topic of how routine mammograms don t save lives.

Masson devotes a more emotional appeal throughout the article, rather than offering confirmation to
display that mammograms are not beneficial. She expresses reflection to show the reader her
perspective and even contradicts herself in one aspect stating If I should happen to discover a lump in
my breast, I ll have it evaluated. I m not opposed to having a diagnostic mammogram (Masson, 2010).
This statement shows weakness within her argument and recognizes that there is potential in
mammogram screening. Although relying on mammography is not the only primary diagnostic tool, it
can however assist in the initial diagnostic process.
Opposing View
Masson conducts a point in her article explaining that some women experience false positive
mammograms and treated unnecessarily. She references from the Nordic Cochrane Centre information
pamphlet that states These women will have either a part of their breast or the whole breast removed,
and they will often receive radiotherapy, and sometimes chemotherapy (Masson, 2010). This can
harvest a psychological strain on many women and cause increased distress and anxiety. Along with
the emotional strain, direct financial costs to health services will be applied due to unnecessary
procedures. The argument that early detection does not guarantee successful treatment or extend life is
interpreted within the

Much Ado About Nothing Gossip
From word to mouth, mouth to mouth, and mouth to ear. Gossip spreads easily Messages can be easily

Another instance of noting is the Benedick and Beatrice subplot. Lastly, it happens again when the

crucial theme that develops throughout the play.
The theme is introduced lightly, at first it seems as if it is simple miscommunication, but it is later

There are various pressing factors that contribute to overweight Latino children. Latino adolescents

Daylight hours are dependent on sunrise and sunset times for each day which are dependent on
seasonal change. The number of daylight hours can be represented by a periodic function. This
periodic function can help Alaskan Council predict daylight hours for tourist travelling to watch their

original data points. This comparison resulted in a percentage error being recorded. (Refer to
Appendix 5 for the results of the function and percentage errors). The highest percentage error

a person must have seven core values outline by the American Physical Therapy Association. The
seven core values from accountability to social responsibility shows what needs to be important in the
eyes of a physical therapist. The individual must also follow a strict code of ethics outlined by certain
rules and procedures. The code of ethics shows the obligation that a physical therapist makes to their
patients. Finally, for the individual to fully successes in any environment must have a certain
professional behavior depending on the atmosphere which they work in. If a physical therapist works

These rules set the ethical obligations determined by the APTA. The rules are set into eight principles
that follow the seven core values. As stated by the code of ethics, it defines the ethical principles that
form the foundation oh physical therapist practice in patient/ client management, consultation,
education, research, and administration. The first of eight principles state that physical therapists shall
respect the inherent dignity and rights of all individuals. This means that confidential information
must remain between the patient and PT. Second principle is physical therapists shall be trustworthy
and compassionate in addressing the right and needs of patients/clients. This brings back the core
value of Altruism and how the PT needs to care deeply about the client. Principle three says how
Physical therapists shall be accountable for making sound professional judgments. This means that PT
needs to always be making the right choice and how to approach rehabilitation for different patients.
The last important principle is that physical therapist always need to be relearning and refining their
knowledge, skills, and abilities. The education aspect of becoming a PT is life long as new research is
being developed every year. The PT needs to be able to change their practice if new knowledge is

Government s Singularity Of Power
Incompetent Leaders:
Monarchy s singularity of power provides people with a symbolic and focused area for group loyalty
and identity. Monarchy can be beneficial in some instances, such as when decisions need to be made
quickly without consulting with a large group of people. Monarchy sometime requires strong
leadership in order to get things accomplished quickly and efficiently. In contrast to the early leaders,
the late Qing emperors in the nineteenth century were weak in the sense that they lacked the abilities
to effectively control the military, which led to the unstable government. In the summer of 1831,
Empress Xiaoquancheng bore emperor Daoguang a son named Xianfeng. At age of 19 and was a
relatively young, emperor Xianfeng received the throne, which made him the 9th Emperor of the
Manchu led Qing dynasty, and the 7th Qing emperor to rule over China, from 1850 to 1861. Shortly
after emperor Xianfeng was on the throne, the first of a series of popular rebellions began that would
nearly destroy the Qing dynasty. The Taiping Rebellion broke out in Southern China. The Manchu
troops that the emperor Xianfeng sent to suppress the rebellion proved so ineffective that the rebels
were able to move Northward and gained control of many cities included Nanjing in 1853, and almost
got the imperial capital of Beijing in between 1854 5 (Teng, 9). In the attempt to put an end to the
rebellion, emperor Xianfeng had to rely on other talented Chinese leaders to raise local volunteer

Rocky Horror Picture Show
I am not sure if it was my time in the Army or that I was now a senior, but I was starting my most
relaxed school year. I still did not have a car, so I was dependent people who were willing to pick me
up, like my friends Stan and Mike. They introduced me to the midnight movies and its most famous
movie, the Rocky Horror Picture Show. On many Friday and Saturday nights, we were in the isle seats
at the Movies at the Machesney Theater Mall. We were self appointed directors for participatory part
of the movie, with all the props.
For an introvert, these two were extroverts at the extreme and in those moments, I was alive. Maybe it

I participated in the publications class, where half of the class work was newspaper production.
Harlem had one of the most advanced school papers in the area. We performed every aspect of
newspaper creation: writing, editing, layout, printing and distribution. It was printed at the school by
students who use two offset printing presses. By the time I graduated high school, I had learned the
craft of newsprint from top to bottom. For many years, I used these skills in one capacity or another.
In my last year in high school, I enjoyed myself. The closer the end was, the freer I felt.
I developed a belief that when something went well, something else would be lost or taken. On a day,
I was happy having been commended for my work as an editor and things were going well for me in
the theater, I was reminded what girls really thought of me. As a teenage boy, I had no defense against
the digs from girls. They were part of the ultimate desire that made me so open for this type of abuse.
Oddly, I understood being dejected from a girl I tried to speak with and to be ignored by others. Even
when I could defend myself against the harsh words of a boy, the same words spoken by a girl became

Pro Tobacco Advertising
Although tobacco advertisements are banned, people still consume it. The ban started in 1971 and
since then has become even more strict on the sponsoring and promotion of tobacco brand logos.
Now, all tobacco ads used, dissuade users from consuming. Advertisements in general can be
obnoxious and tiresome, but they are sometimes necessary for the seller to get their point across. Ads
are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind positively. The
main reasoning for the creation of advertisements is to persuade the viewer or audience through the
evocation of ethos, pathos, and logos, to have a change of mind about the product. The ads I chose are
both similar, but have different goals towards their audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something people
really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature. Looking at this
ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about the loved ones
around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple yet powerful logical
appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I think it questions the
viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death. The viewer can choose to
die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as well choose the bullet, a fast and
less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems to be getting at the point that death
by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user.
This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of
stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the
picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the person.
In its design, the layout has a depressing background. This gloomy image is possibly representing
what comes along with each deed. A glowing white font captures the viewer s eyes, but is present to
sort of highlight and make it clear that the

Surface attachment of the biological elements: Fiber Optic Sensor for bio sensing has an important
part which is to attach biological elements with the sensor surface. The easiest way for this is surface

Reagentless fluorescent biosensor: A reagents fiber optic sensor for bio sensing in the complex
situation of the biological mixture can monitor the analyte. If this is immobilized on the solid support
then this can function properly. This fiber optic sensor for biosensors reacts in the situation of
interaction with the analyte that was targeted with the change of the properties of the fluorescence.
After that, the targeted sequence will be base paired by the hybridization probes and this will generate
an optical signal. The principle of transduction which is favored employed has optical detection in this
kind of biological sensor. The measurement of this interaction is through the bio transducer which
gives a signal that is measurable and is proportional to the sample which is in the presence of the
analyte that is targeted. The purpose behind the design of Fiber Optic Sensor for biosensing is to

Siddhartha And Buddha Comparison Essay
Neil Patel Period 2 Oct. 4, 2014
Parallels between Siddhartha and Buddha
Most readers often get confused with the book Siddhartha, as most initially presume the book after
reading for a little bit, that the main character is Buddha. However, this is not the case; the main
character, Siddhartha, shares the same name as the original Buddha, an element Herman Hesse
included to help the readers make the initial connection between the two characters in the book,
though it may get confusing. Though, the two characters only share a name at this point, there are
many more parallelisms between their lives and personalities. Both Siddhartha and Buddha had
motivation to leave their homes at an early age. Buddha s early life was filled with opulence so that
he, as a boy, would be distracted and unaware of the miseries and suffering of the world (A E
Television Networks, Buddha). Siddhartha s early life was a little different from Buddha s, but in the
sense of not knowing the truths of the world, very similar. Siddhartha s father, a religious leader and
esteemed member of the community , tried to make Siddhartha follow in his ... Show more content on

through this experience, other than being reduced to skin and bone, they had learned that conquering

Argumentative Essay On Identical Twins
Twins have a special claim upon our attention; it is, that their history affords means of distinguishing
between the effects of tendencies received at birth, and those that were imposed by the special
circumstances of their after lives. says Sir Francis Galton, 19th century behavioral genetics pioneer.
Researchers have used twin studies to try to figure out the genetic backgrounds of an abundance of
traits, from determination to intelligence to bizarre to alcohol dependence.
The study of twins relies on studying teens raised in the same family environments. Identical twins
(Monozygotic) share all of their genes, while fraternal (dizygotic) only share 50% of their genes.
Researchers use this method to estimate the heritability of traits.

Clash Of Civilizations Analysis
In 1992, at the end of the Cold War, political scientist Francis Fukuyama argued that with Western
Liberal Democracy s victory in the battle of ideologies, there was no more history to be made. Indeed,
in such a monumental moment in human history, it may have been easy for scholars to believe that the
human experience is done developing. Samuel Huntington responded to Fukuyama in his 1993 essay
Clash of Civilizations, arguing that history is far from over. Rather, world politics is simply entering a
new phase, in which global conflict is centered on civilizational lines, rather than ideological or
political lines. When we look back on his essay, we see that his hypothesis has manifested in several
key events in world politics regarding our case studies and current events around the world.
Huntington credited the Cold War with bringing global stability. Because the world was split into
Capitalist and Communist, countries of different cultures and background united under one cause:
defeat the other side. In addition, the concept of Mutually assured destruction protected us from the
prospect of destructive, nuclear war between countries on the Capitalist side and countries on the
Communist side. However, after the Cold War ended, people needed to find new lines to identify
themselves with: cultural lines. In Clash of Civilizations, Huntington outlines 3 ways in which
civilizations will clash: core state conflicts, fault line conflicts, and The West Versus the Rest.

Three Generations Of Punishment , a 60 Minutes interview conducted by Anderson Cooper, is a thought provoking look inside North Korea s political work camps. In this interview, we speak to Shin Dong hyuk, former resident, and escapee of one of said concentration camps, Camp 14. One hundred and fifty thousand people inhabit Camp 14, which lies fifty miles outside of the city of Pyongyang. This camp, as well as many others, follow the Three Generations of Punishment policy institutionalized by former leader of North Korea, Kim Il Sung. This law decrees that if someone commits a political wrongdoing, he, and the two generations after him, will live in work camps for their whole lives as a form of punishment. This English historical fictional novel has evolved English composition, A Tale Of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens demonstrates the birth of a new, changed life. Some of the most successful people to ever live have been re born from losses of money, or moral. He saw no hope with his wife and had thought to have too many children to keep watch of. He then in 1858 separated from his wife which was a year before publishing A Tale of Two Cities. Dickens was able to transfer his emotions and feelings into his piece A Tale of Two Cities. Sadly, Dickens life continued to go downhill as his brother died a few years later and other family members continue to die. In 1860 Charles tried burning his personal papers . Him separating from his wife was something widely public, but what wasn t known was that he had a mistress who was fairly younger than him. Dickens in many of his writings gives characters who have lives of poverty, enter through the gates of opportunity, but there is no happy, romantic ending. • 5. Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1 The Revolutionary Era was a turbulent time in American History. The voices of revolution rang from all over the colonies. King George III was seen as a tyrant, Britain s taxes were oppressing, and the colonist s sought political freedom at last. However, this movement towards freedom did not spur overnight. Leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine used their skills as an author and orator to persuade others to join the revolution. Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 boosted soldier s morale and urged them to continue bravely in their fight against Britain. Thomas Jefferson s Declaration of Independence formally removed Great Britain from their rule over the colonies. Jefferson used powerful and moving statements to list the reasons for the colonies separation. Although Paine and Jefferson s writing aided in the persuasion of political leaders; many colonists were not able to read these powerful political works. Had the writing of Paine and Jefferson been easily accessible for colonists, Paine s The Crisis No. 1. would have caused a greater effect on the colonists perspectives than Jefferson s Declaration of Independence. During the American Revolution, morale was low and many colonists wanted to give up their fight against the British and return home. They both take place in the far reaches of the galaxies, on unique planets with imaginative and distinct species. In both series the planets are united in some way, Star Trek has The United Federation of Planets and Star Wars has the Galactic Empire. They both have a ship that they are famous for, Star Wars has the Millennium Falcon and the Death Star while Star Trek has the USS Enterprise. Each ship has similar means of transportation, Star Trek has warp drive where Star Wars has Hyperspace. There are differences in the main objective of both series. Star Wars is mainly about conflict, a constant battle between the light and the dark as the characters strive to balance their sides of the force. Whereas Star Trek is mainly about peace, space exploration and going where no man has gone before. Star Trek is a bit more logical and grounded in science while Star Wars induces supernatural elements such as the force. Therefore, Star Trek is science fiction while Star Wars can mainly be thought of a science fantasy. In addition to science, Star Trek focuses on topics like ethics and morality and problem solving. Star Trek often tried to tackle controversial topics in society and to teach its viewer s life lessons such as acceptance to diversity. Bill Bryson Reading Assignment Essay Bill Bryson Reading Assignment I Due Date: September 13, 2016 Rashmi Acharya Hour 6 What do astronomers think the universe was like the instant before the Big Bang? Astronomers believe the whole universe started with that we re shrunk to a billionth of its normal size into a place infinitesimally tiny. Then you must pack that minuscule space about an ounce of matter. Then you are ready to start the universe. To imagine this you need to gather every last particle of matter between this and the edge of creation and fir it into a spot so close together it really does not posses any dimensions at all. This concept or idea is known as singularity. Outside of the singularity there is no other place, because the universe was created from this singularity so before this singularity there was no universe. What do astronomers think happened in the universe in the few minutes after the Big Bang? In a single moment the universe starts expanding exponentially. The singularity assumes dimensions, space beyond conception. In less than a minute, the universe is so much more than a billion miles across and still expanding. Now there is 10 billion degrees of heat which is enough to start the nuclear reactions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The average around the world is right around 22% (tax foundation citation), whilst some countries like Ireland is sitting at an extremely low 12.5%. Bernard also comments on the fact that this entire theory relies on the assumption that Anne and the others were innocent, which he disagrees with. He mostly bases his interpretation of events on a French poem written by someone with close access to the court. According to Bernard, this poem sheds some light on how the accusations against Anne came forward in the quarrel between a lady in the court, Lady Worcester, and her brother who accused her of adultery. In her defense she then accused the Queen of even worst, including incest with her own brother. He also gives a lot of importance to one of the accused s confession. Mark Smeaton confessed his relationship with Anne and remained consistent in his admission of guilt up until his execution. All of which is mentioned both in Chapuys and in De Carles poem. Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a unitised form suitable for transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch, 1996, p.194). The simple principle of the container has undoubtedly made the global economy grow, and brought the world closer together through ease of transportation (Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and improves stock control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the distribution of goods in allowing a greater selection of cargo to travel further than it was previously capable of. So what about the costs? The container made shipping cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s idea, it was thought that the costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States exports, and could be as high as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to product price have fallen sharply. (Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers and ships that is responsible for the transportation costs, the larger normal routes, the increasing competition between the major container ship operators, such as Maesrk and Evergreen, the investment in modernising crane handling equipment and the logistics, have all had an impact. Before containerisation, businesses thought of distribution as a series of processes, ships, trucks and trains. Somebody had to move every box and pallet, and could easily consume half the cost of shipping. Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . • 21. New Zealand s Early Embrace Of Women s Voting Rights Essay 1. New Zealand s early embrace of women s voting rights has become a key part of its identity as a world leading, progressive democracy. (Atkinson, 2015). When New Zealand first became colony it was widely accepted that women were best suited for domestic tasks and men were fit for public life and politics. Women were kept separate from the world of politics, similar to many European societies at the time (Ministry for Culture and Heritage, 2014). Some women began to challenge these narrow minded views during the late 19th century. Secondary schools, universities, charity groups and churches began to offer opportunities to women; particularly those from wealthy or middle class families. Women soon turned their attention to their political and legal rights. Thus, a movement for women s rights emerged gaining momentum from the mid 1880s. In 1891 1893 women s suffrage campaigners, led by Kate Sheppard, assembled a number of huge petitions asking that Parliament grant women the right to vote. In 1891 over 9000 New Zealanders signed, in 1892 nearly 20,000, and in 1893 nearly 32,000 signatures were gathered which was equal to about a quarter of the adult European female population of New Zealand (Ministry for Culture and Heritage, 2016). Although I myself am not a mother, I have seen this job played out from my own mother who provides her children with a great life. Some mothers are not ready for this job, yet selfishly still choose to keep their children because they are too proud to allow someone else provide their baby with the life they deserve. Leaving a child at a church is very common and they will eventually be reported to the police. From there the child will most likely be brought to a foster home where they will further place the child with a family who will protect and love the child like their own. The parent or the person legally in charge of taking care of the child will be found and face serious criminal charges. The criminal charges would include abandonment and endangering a child. The effects this abandonment has on a child are ever lasting and may not go away with therapy or being adopted. According to the article The Neglect Of Child Neglect: A Meta Analytic Review Of The Prevalence Of Neglect it states, Infancy is recognized as the period between the second postnatal month and two years, previous to the mid childhood. • 36. Man vs. Self Conflicts in The Lord of the Flies by... Though The Lord of the Flies never describes a Man vs. Self conflict, there is indeed a definite enemy among the islanders; haplessly being themselves. Moreover, the retrenchment of the refined attitudes of the islanders being amended into that of irrational savages is culpable for the tragedies conducted by the islanders throughout the story. This sort of ancillary and visceral enemy that the islanders impinge upon is thus apposite to the Man vs. Self conflict style. To begin, there is a detectable amount of referencing to savagery throughout the story and often it is what to blame for much of the conflicts in the book as aforementioned. For instance, the frequent and acerbic collisions among Jack and Ralph with Piggy often describe either Ralph or Jack becoming savage. In fact, every incident in the book adumbrates to the presence savagery at least peripherally. For instance, the diurnal (adding wood to fire) was a custom that would most likely have led to the boys being rescued had they not construed of the existence of a mythical Beast which never transpired in the physical realm. This conjured beast of superstitious properties precluded an early rescue when it was created without conferring with logic. This misconstrued perception heaped upon another was sufficient to effect the death of Simon s very own life. As for Piggy s death at Roger s hands, it could be blamed by the diffident Roger s innately sadistic behaviour that merely inured to a land that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Refer to Appendix 5 for the results of the function and percentage errors). The highest percentage error recorded was 7.35% on February 1st 2011. This error could be because February has 29 days in a leap year but 2011 data was used. The error could also occur because only 24 data points were used, if more data points were used a more precise graph would have been generated leaving less space for error. Question 1e: Simple deriving and calculus was used to verify that the equation L=417 sin⁡ [2π/365 (t 81)]+744 for when the longest and shortest day of the year occur. The ban started in 1971 and since then has become even more strict on the sponsoring and promotion of tobacco brand logos. Now, all tobacco ads used, dissuade users from consuming. Advertisements in general can be obnoxious and tiresome, but they are sometimes necessary for the seller to get their point across. Ads are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind positively. The main reasoning for the creation of advertisements is to persuade the viewer or audience through the evocation of ethos, pathos, and logos, to have a change of mind about the product. The ads I chose are both similar, but have different goals towards their audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something people really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature. Looking at this ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about the loved ones around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple yet powerful logical appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I think it questions the viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death. The viewer can choose to die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as well choose the bullet, a fast and less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems to be getting at the point that death by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user. This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the person. In its design, the layout has a depressing background. This gloomy image is possibly representing what comes along with each deed. A glowing white font captures the viewer s eyes, but is present to sort of highlight and make it clear that the ... • 48. Surface Attachment Essay Surface attachment of the biological elements: Fiber Optic Sensor for bio sensing has an important part which is to attach biological elements with the sensor surface. The easiest way for this is surface fictionalization for the biological elements coat. Aminosilane, Polylysine, and nitrocellulose or epoxy saline are being used in the case of glass silicon chips. This process can bond the biological agent some of its examples are fixed with layer by layer. Polymer coatings charge with the deposition. There are there the main ways for the chemical and physical entrap. Hydro gel is used most of the time is sol gel. Silicate monomers of polymerization are generated with glassy silica. This can happen in the situation where ion channels embedded in the support of the tethered bilayer membranes. This always attached with the electrode that is of gold, as a result, the electrical circle comes into existence. The molecules that are being captured for example antibodies to control the flow of the ion and this binds the target molecule, this control on the flow is through a channel. As a result of the electrical conduction which is proportional to the target that was being set before the experiment? Reagentless fluorescent biosensor: A reagents fiber optic sensor for bio sensing in the complex situation of the biological mixture can monitor the analyte. If this is immobilized on the solid support then this can function properly. This fiber optic sensor for biosensors reacts in the situation of interaction with the analyte that was targeted with the change of the properties of the fluorescence. After that, the targeted sequence will be base paired by the hybridization probes and this will generate an optical signal. The principle of transduction which is favored employed has optical detection in this kind of biological sensor. The measurement of this interaction is through the bio transducer which gives a signal that is measurable and is proportional to the sample which is in the presence of the analyte that is targeted. The purpose behind the design of Fiber Optic Sensor for biosensing is to create a quick testing that is convenient to the point of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Siddhartha And Buddha Comparison Essay Neil Patel Period 2 Oct. 4, 2014 Parallels between Siddhartha and Buddha Most readers often get confused with the book Siddhartha, as most initially presume the book after reading for a little bit, that the main character is Buddha. However, this is not the case; the main character, Siddhartha, shares the same name as the original Buddha, an element Herman Hesse included to help the readers make the initial connection between the two characters in the book, though it may get confusing. Though, the two characters only share a name at this point, there are many more parallelisms between their lives and personalities. Both Siddhartha and Buddha had motivation to leave their homes at an early age. Buddha s early life was filled with opulence so that he, as a boy, would be distracted and unaware of the miseries and suffering of the world (A E Television Networks, Buddha). Siddhartha s early life was a little different from Buddha s, but in the sense of not knowing the truths of the world, very similar. So, in further parallelism, they both leave this lifestyle of nothingness in search of another path to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Argumentative Essay On Identical Twins Twins have a special claim upon our attention; it is, that their history affords means of distinguishing between the effects of tendencies received at birth, and those that were imposed by the special circumstances of their after lives. says Sir Francis Galton, 19th century behavioral genetics pioneer. Researchers have used twin studies to try to figure out the genetic backgrounds of an abundance of traits, from determination to intelligence to bizarre to alcohol dependence. The study of twins relies on studying teens raised in the same family environments. Identical twins (Monozygotic) share all of their genes, while fraternal (dizygotic) only share 50% of their genes. Researchers use this method to estimate the heritability of traits. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Clash Of Civilizations Analysis In 1992, at the end of the Cold War, political scientist Francis Fukuyama argued that with Western Liberal Democracy s victory in the battle of ideologies, there was no more history to be made. Indeed, in such a monumental moment in human history, it may have been easy for scholars to believe that the human experience is done developing. Samuel Huntington responded to Fukuyama in his 1993 essay Clash of Civilizations, arguing that history is far from over. Rather, world politics is simply entering a new phase, in which global conflict is centered on civilizational lines, rather than ideological or political lines. When we look back on his essay, we see that his hypothesis has manifested in several key events in world politics regarding our case studies and current events around the world. Huntington credited the Cold War with bringing global stability. Because the world was split into Capitalist and Communist, countries of different cultures and background united under one cause: defeat the other side. In addition, the concept of Mutually assured destruction protected us from the prospect of destructive, nuclear war between countries on the Capitalist side and countries on the Communist side. However, after the Cold War ended, people needed to find new lines to identify themselves with: cultural lines. In Clash of Civilizations, Huntington outlines 3 ways in which civilizations will clash: core state conflicts, fault line conflicts, and The West Versus the Rest. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
