The Smoke Signals Forgiveness Essay
The Smoke Signals Forgiveness
Smoke Signals, written by Sherman Alexie and directed by Chris Eyre, begins on July 4, 1976
on the Coeur d Alene Reservation. Arnold Joseph (Gary Farmer), drunk while celebrating the
independence , lit off a firework and set the Builds the Fire residence on fire, killing the parents of
Thomas Builds the Fire. Many people were already asleep in the house when the fire started, so no
one saw Arnold s mistake, which he kept a secret from the whole reservation. Both Thomas Builds
the Fire (Evan Adams) and VictorJoseph (Adam Beach), Arnold s son, were saved from the
burning house. Arnold ran to catch Thomas in his arms after Thomas was thrown from a window.
Victor and Thomas grew up together. After the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day, Arlene received a call from Arnold s neighbor in Phoenix, Suzy Song (Irene Bedard),
saying that Arnold had died and that someone should probably come down to Phoenix to take
care of the death. This meant that Victor had to take a bus to Phoenix to get Arnold s possessions
and drive his truck back to the reservation. There was just one problem, Victor didn t have the
money for a bus pass, but Thomas did. The catch was, if Thomas gave Victor some money to go to
Phoenix, Thomas got to come along too. Victor had no other choice but to accept the offer. And the
journey begins.
Victor and Thomas had never been off the reservation before. They experienced what it s really
like to be a Native American in the real world. On the bus ride there, two white men took their
seats and made rude comments about them being Native Americans. They received a lot of stares
and uncomfortable looks from people as well. The bus ride to Phoenix was hard for Victor because
he had to deal with Thomas talking the whole time. Victor especially didn t like it when Thomas
brought up his father in conversation.
In Phoenix, Thomas and Victor walked many miles through the desert to get to Arnold s old
trailer. Suzy Song lived in a trailer there as well. They met Suzy right away, and she was very
helpful. She and Thomas told stories to each

Overt Discrimination In The Workplace
Employment discrimination in the United States is unlawful by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
of 1964; employers, employer agencies, and labor organizations are prohibited to discriminate
against a person based on race, color, sex, religion, and national origin (Belton, 1978). Although,
Title VII passed half a century ago, sex discriminationis still present in the workplace. Feminist
theory attempts describing and reveling overt and covert sex discrimination during the hiring
process, exploring its possible origins and causes, and reducing or eradicating it from the
workplace (Reskin, 2000).
To attempt reducing sex discrimination, the first step is for society to recognize its existence
according to the feminist theory (Reskin, 2000). A business woman is passed on a promotion
within her company, for a man got it, although she has seniority and more experience; and a male
nurse is passed on head of nurses promotion, for a female nurse, according to the hospital, has more
nurturing traits, although he is as friendly, nurturing, and caring, without mentioning, he also has
seniority and more experience. These are examples of overt discrimination since they are obvious,
in both situations, by each person knowing employment qualifications and longevity of the other.
Similarly, there are examples of covert discrimination; however, these are difficult to notice. Both
men and women might be discriminated against if they are applying for an out of role job,

Pros And Cons Of Propaganda
Propaganda is not a recent idea or concept however since the creation of film propaganda has found
its way into them, especially documentary s. Documentary filmmaking is a platform and mode of
filmmaking associated with truth and actuality to present an overview of a topic or issue
(Aufderheide, 2007). Audiences expect this when watching documentary films because generally
the topic of a documentary filmis based on a real issue and/or event without the use with actors,
sets and special effects (with the exception of docudramas) (Nichols, 2010). Although they may be
based on a real world issue/event the filmmaker(s) behind the documentaries have an agenda and
are trying to push certain ideologies or points of view on the audience. However, the assumption is
made that they are doing this through fact and truth (Bizz). Propaganda on the other hand does not
rely on truth or fact as it is an idea of dishonestly. Propaganda never tries to persuade or inform
instead it attempts to deceive an audience by conveying/creating representations and ideas in a text
that can only have one dominant reading (Aufderheide, 2007). Propaganda filmmaking is usually
created by governments and political figures to impose hateful/nationalistic viewpoints and
ideologies on the general populous (Aufderheide, 2007). Triumph of the Will(Riefenstahl, 1935)
and Prelude to War (Capra, 1943) demonstrate that documentaries have the ability to create a false
representation of history due to the filmmaker s

Cultural Changes In Canada
Canada s roll in accepting immigrants and refugees ultimately changed the make up of Canadian
society. Canada, slowly becoming a cultural mosaic, changed immigration policies to improve the
life for both immigrants and refugees. This nation, was immensely important in the aspect of
immigration through the 1970s to the 1990s. Canadas acceptance of immigrants and refugees not
only boosted the economy but showed that Canada was a kind, caring, and compassionate country,
and with that came cultural diversity.
Immigration in the late 20th century improved the Canadian economy. As Canada accepts more and
more immigrants the population gradually rises, creating more jobs and increasing the need for
goods and services. The more jobs that are generated,

The Global Financial System Is A Web Of Connections
Srdan Vujnovic
Short Paper Assignment II: LIBOR
The global financial system is a web of connections. It does not matter what country, ethnicity or
religion a person is. It does not matter if you are a democrat, republican, communist, socialist or
anarchist. We all share this common bond money. The following analysis will explain what LIBOR
is, how manipulating LIBOR can have negative effects on the global economy, and what steps the
global financial industry can take to ensure that a similar scandal never occurs again.
I.
Analysis of LIBOR and its manipulation
What the major global banks decide to do can ultimately affect a farmer living in the
Democratic Republic of Congo, thousands of miles away from the people that directly or
indirectly affected his life. One of those ways that people across the globe are connected are
through different financial rates, one of those rates being LIBOR. LIBOR stands for London
Inter Bank Offered Rate. It is one of many benchmarks that banking institutions use to set interest
rates for lending between banks (Romano Peluso). LIBOR is an interest rate that banks charge each
other for overnight, one month, three month, six month and one year loans. It is published in five
currencies which include the Swiss franc, the euro, the pound sterling, the
Japanese yen and of course the dollar (Kimberly Amadeo). While most LIBOR based contracts are
linked to the 3 month rate, the majority of the lending happens overnight. Most banks have a

With its modern amenities and high tech features, the new no. 7 line station at 34th street and
Hudson Yards is a rare sight for New Yorkers. For the first time, subway service has finally
extended to the far West Side of midtown Manhattan, luring new development in the emerging,

lines, essentially connecting the rest of the city to this new developing neighborhood and offering
easy access to the Jacob Javits Convention Center, the High Line and the newly opened Hudson

However, this gave way to an entrepreneurial approach that primarily focused on local
development and employment growth in the following decades. This is mirrored across the
capitalist world, but is perhaps most evident in the United States where the reduction in the flow
of federal redistributions and local tax revenues after 1972 led to this revival in civic boosterism
and entrepreneurialism (Harvey, 1989). It certainly has far reaching consequences in that future
growth prospects may all be about playing the capitalist game , the paving to a zero sum
development. To that, Harvey asserted that urban entrepreneurialism (1) is based on public private
partnership so that local boosterism attracts external sources of funding, direct investments, and
employment sources, (2) is speculative in general and thus compounded with risks and difficulties
that are absorbed by the local public sector, and (3) places emphasis on political economy rather
than economic projects that improve living and working conditions. The extension is a prime
example of this because it was intended to bring business and entertainment to the Hudson Yards
neighborhood, and it did many businesses in the area have seen increased profits since the project
s construction leading to a development boom in its vicinity. However, it faced its own risks and
difficulties from the start, seeing that it was supposed to be funded by an innovative tax
incremental financing that issued city bonds for the construction to be repaid by future tax revenue

Nursing Vital Signs
Vitals signs include a person s temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pain, and the pulse
oximetry as well (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 579). They are important to be assessed routinely
on every patient because the health status of a person is reflected in these vital signs since they
are the indicators of body functions, and a change in vital signs allows the nurse or any other
healthcare professional to know if there is anything wrong with the patient by being able to do a
diagnosis, perform lab tests, and plan for interventions for those specific indications. Nurses assess
vital signs for each patient and use them to compare their findings to accepted normal values and
the patient s usual pattern of values. It is important

Social Information Processing Theory Research Paper
Social Information Processing Theory
Social Information Processing Theory was developed by Joseph Walter s in 1992.It is a subtype of
interpersonal communication theory that explains dynamics of online relationships.
Social Information Processing Theory deals with the nature and structure of online relationships
developed over computed mediated communication (CMC). The theory states that the online
relationships are essentially same as any other form of face to face relationships, only difference
being that online relationship may take longer time to develop.
The Social Information Processing Theory highlights the fact that majority of online relationships
develop in spite of the geographical distance or cultural diversity.
The theory dwells on the fact of the mental image perceived and the mental image portrayed. The
theory states a sender receiver model. The model consists of a sender (where people can select
how they project themselves) and a receiver (people create an ideal image for the person at the
other end). Channel is the medium through which the participants communicate and it is flexible in
nature, as on an online platform people can choose their suitable time. A large amount of
communication is also influenced by the feedback, molding one s portrayed image to align it with
the expectations and responses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his/her dreams, desires and feelings and help in strengthening the relationship in long term ; while

Foils In Catch 22
In the book Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, nearly all of the characters in the book serve as foils
toward the main character Yossarian. The central idea of Catch 22 that Joseph Heller is trying is
prove is that war is crazy and pointless. He shows this with the fact that all of the character in the
book except for Yossarianand Orr are crazy. One of the very important foils in this book is
Dunbar, who is Yossarians closest friend. Other than being Yossarians closest friend in the war,
Dunbar is a foil to Yossarian because he has extremely similar philosophies and ways of acting.
Because the characters are so similar, often times throughout the book many of Yossarian s
philosophies and ways of acting are discovered through Dunbar, which makes him a foil.
Dunbar as a foil to Yossarian is shown in many ways, one of which being that they both have a
twisted sense of humor which only they understand. A way this is shown is with their ironic fear
of death, in which they fail to understand why people are shooting at them. Heller uses Dunbar s
sheer will to keep surviving in the face of death as a comparison to Yossarian. It is a comparison
because Dunbar keeps trying to extend his life, like Yossarian, but eventually gives up hope and

no guilt for betraying his army or pretending to be sick. This shows Dunbar as a foil because he
reflects Yossarians character and is able to influence him. Joseph Helleronce again proves the

The draft Kenya Health Sector Strategic Investment Plan[v](KHSSP)July 2012 June 2018 proposes:

History Of Wu Zetian
Empress Wu ZeTian: Ancient China s Greatest Ruler
The Tang dynasty, in ancient China, was one of prosperity, growth and was the start of evolution in
ancient China. The ruler during that time was Wu ZeTian, the first and only female empress. She
was an intelligent leader who created many concepts and rules that led ancient China to growth and
prosperity. It was difficult for her to maintain her position but she did and brought affluence to the
country. She established a fair government system and devoted herself in preserving literature and
history. She established a powerful army and put her efforts in creating laws that allowed women
to be treated as equals to men. Empress Wu ZeTianwas important to the advancement of China
because she constructed a strong education and government system which created a stable country,
expanded China s borders giving the country security and created more opportunities for women.
Firstly, Wu ZeTian believed education and a well organized government system was the key to
successful development of a country. She, personally interviewed candidates. This became the sole
means by which officials could be recruited. These formalities guaranteed appointments could no
longer be obtained through patronage, bribery or corruption. (Old Book of Tang). Wu ZeTian

It was first a post office before it became a little hangout place named Chili s. The company was

the sense of their cuisine. The American food served with a Texan Mexican theme can be
served from a burger to chicken fajitas. They serve chips and salsa and also have fries with
toppings as appetizers. There is no going wrong when customer come in and want to have the

All of the girls on the team made all their free throws at practice and Coach uses a restaurant of a

know when Coach makes reservations, they are here to impress and please Coach and the team.

Social Implications Of A Negative Impact On The World
I know many of my friends that have encountered a situation that caused negative social
implications. They would upload personal information to sharing websites such as the well
known one, www.ask.fm or Facebook. Every piece of data they would decide to share to the
world enabled people from anywhere to read and acknowledge the information about them which
could have put them in potential danger to threats that would complicate their lives. Since they
decided to do so, future employers may have had the chance to find out about this information
which contained personal data, inappropriate language and dangerous actions. This could have
prevented them from receiving/applying for a part time, or register for college, or at the extremes
suspend them from attending school. After a speaker about online networking visited our school,
his speech had a positive influence on some of my friends where they then proceeded to delete the
comments/pictures from the websites and off of their accounts which cleared some of the tension
between certain people. Some ways to prevent social implications from having a negative impact
on yourself, family, friends or the wider community is to think before you post something on
digital platforms that has the potential to harm yourself or one another. Initiative must be used
before uploading information or pictures about yourself or others by following simple steps such
as asking yourself: is it true, will I benefit from it, will it offend someone,

If a student has test anxiety, however, he or she may not perform as well on these important tests
as they typically would if they weren t experiencing a lot of anxiety. A new study indicates that
writing about one s anxieties before an important exam may help a student perform significantly
better on that test. The research was conducted by Dr. Sian Beilock and her colleagues. Beilock
is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago and an expert in, choking
under pressure. Choking under pressure, refers to the phenomenon that occurs when one
performs below his or her ability or skill level during an especially challenging task or
experience. Beilock has also written a book entitled Choke: What the Secrets of the Brain
Reveal About Getting It Right When You Have To. According to Psych Central, Beilock has
done prior research that has shown pressure filled experiences or situations may reduce working
memory, which is part of the brain s processing power. Our working memories allow us to recall
information needed to perform everyday tasks. However, working memory has limited processing
power, so when worries creep up, the ability to recall and retrieve information becomes limited.
Prior research has also indicated expressive writing where individuals write about emotional or
traumatic experiences repeatedly over weeks decreases worries in individuals who are depressed.
The current study aimed to determine if writing in a classroom could help students perform better
on tests. Additionally, the researchers hypothesized that just one opportunity to write before taking
a test would reduce worries and improve exam scores. In one experiment, the researchers recruited
20 college students to take two short mathematics tests. The researchers instructed the students to
simply do their best on the first test (pre test).

Symbolism And Symbolism In The Thing In The Forest
The Thing in the the story The Thing in the Forest is a far more symbolic image than just a scary

described in the story is as very Thin and dark and taller Had a bloodless transparent paleness, a
touch of blue in her fine lips. (Byatt 325) Something about these words leaves the mind to
wander about the girl Penny. Maybe Primrose had mad and imaginary friend due to the
loneliness and fear of being sent away. Also there s the idea that Penny is actually a friend of
Primrose but had died, now Primrose sees her ghost and keeps in contact with it. This is
symbolic to the story because primrose is finding comfort and safety within a friend that is
maybe isn t really there or exist. ( Bryatt 325) The main symbolic imagery in the story happens
one day when Penny and Primrose decide to go and wonder in the forest just like any other
curious and adventurous little child does. To a place that would seem like a mystery or just fun
to go and look at. As they are in the forest wandering around they come into contact with a Thing,
a thing they ve never seen, smelled, or heard before. They see this thing it s a worm like monster
gliding through the forest leaving tails of smile and it s such a horrendous sight that they never
forget it. All the descriptions lead up to the bigger picture of what the Thing really represents in the
story and what back ground it has to tell. The sounds of this creature was described as A crunching,
a crackling, a crushing , heavy thumping and

The Giant Impact Theory On The Moon
In 1975, two scientists by the name of Dr. William K. Hartmann and Dr. Donald R. Davis, came
up with a groundbreaking new theory on how the moon was created. Their theory stated At the
time Earth formed 4.5 billion years ago, other smaller planetary bodies were also growing. One of
these hit earth late in Earths growth process, blowing out rocky debris. A fraction of that debris
went into orbit around the Earth and aggregated into the moon(Hartmann Herres 1). This theory is
known as the Giant Impact Theory and is the accepted theory in the scientific community of how
the moon was created. Even though this theory is accepted by most, there are still some people
who don t hold this theory to be true. I agree with Davis and Hartmann s Giant Impact Theory that
a great collision occurred and created the moon. The Giant Impact Theory is supported by the lack
of iron on the moon, the moon rocks from the Apollo missions, and its acceptance in the scientific
community. Mostly every planet in our solar systemhas some traces of iron that can be found. But
the moon is unique, because there is little to no iron on the moon. The Moon has an abnormally
low density compared to the terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars), indicating that it
lacks high density iron (Giant Impact Theory For Moon Formation Boosted 1). The density of the
moon is 3.346 g/cm3, while the Earth is much denser at 5.52 g/cm3 (Cain 1). The moons low
density correlates with the Giant Impact

Benefits And Challenges Of Collecting Consumer Data
The purpose of this study is to determine the benefits and challenges of collecting consumer data.
Collecting consumer data has become increasingly popular for many businesses. Its main purpose
is simply to give a business a strategic advantage over their competitors. But how is this possible
and why do businesses rely on consumerdata as a source for competitive advantage? Even though
there are many methods that can be used to create a competitive advantage over the competition
within an industry, collecting consumer data has been proven to be one of the most efficient and
successful techniques. The purpose of this research project is also to analyze how companies put
consumer data to use and how companies benefit from collecting consumer information. Ultimately,
the goal is to understand the benefits of collecting consumer data, the challenges companies face
when attempting to collect consumer data, and understanding the purpose of collecting this data in
order to create a strategic advantage over competitors within the same industry.
Introduction

The Multicultural Language
In our world today if one were to look into languages they would find that there are around 6,000
languages. So how did all these languages come to be, how come we have so many? Well to
answer that we need to look at some of the most popular languages in the world. Today the
majority language spoken is Chinese followed by Spanish and then English. These languages all
came from another language and then evolved as the world got bigger and grew older. All
languages are divided into a family. The family is like the main origin of the language. Then that
language spreads and changes up a bit and gets created as a new language. The diffusion of
languages is like stated before, things evolve to adapt to their surroundings, languages shaped up
and got either better or worse, people used the better ones and the worst ones died off, languages
that got started in one region may not even still be in that same region, due to the one word which
is changed. Today the popular language, Chinese can be found spoken by approximately 1,213
million people in China, Taiwan and Singapore. The second most spoken language, Spanish which
has around 329 million speakers can be found in Spain, Latin America and some in the United States
. Lastly the third most spoken language English which has about 328 million speakers can be found
in multiple countries, some of which include the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the
British Isles. Multiculturalism can be defined as different cultures or

Women Of Ancient Greek Vs. Athenian Women
Women in Ancient Greece Differences Ancient Greece is a country that houses two of the most
infamous societies in the world known as the Spartans and the Athenians. Women of ancient Sparta
were known as strong minded women who enjoyed more freedom than Athenian women.
Although Spartan women were to a certain extent dependent on men, they had some influence in
men s politics, which poses the question: in what form did they influenced the decisions made by
Greek men? Much like Spartan women, the Athenian women had a similar role to play in their
men s lives, such as wives and courtesan, These were other classes of women though, which were
less respectable than a citizen s wife known as hetaera; According to (Jorgen Christian Meyer).
They were given more freedom and were normally educated in conversation, singing and dancing,
which were ways of pleasing men in those eras. Moreover, women in ancient Greece such as
courtesan women could not marry Spartan men, nor could courtesan women marry Athens men as
these women were not respected as wives but were the mistresses of the husband. The Spartan
women served as wives and were the only women able to give birth to Spartan children. This is in
opposition to the other Spartan women who just served as mingling entertainment for the Spartan
men s leisure. According to Kay O Pry, Aristotle writes, Among Spartans in the days of their
greatness; many things were managed by their women, and Aristotle felt that the influence of

Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Law Enforcement
In today s law enforcement environment everyone agrees that departments should be more effective
and efficient, but how do we measure and gauge this? A good evaluation of a department should
include the documentation of activities and performance within it. The difference between efficient
and effective is that efficiency refers to how well you do something, whereas effectivenessrefers to
how useful it is. The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines effectiveness as: producing a
result that is wanted or having an intended effect. Efficiency is defined as: the ability to do
something or produce something without wasting materials, time, or energy. As an example, if a
Law Enforcement Agency is not doing well in the area of use of force and has had several
complaints over a period of time, the department decides to retrain their officers on new equipment
and practices. The training goes well they train their officers and tests show they understand the
training well. But overall the training does not improve. In this case the department s strategy was
efficient but not effective. On the other hand, if the training conducted showed an improvement and
understanding as well as less complaints of use of force, the department s strategy was both
efficient and effective.

Understanding The Formation Of An Obligation And Its...
To answer the given question, we must first understand the formation of an obligation and its
different types. The two primary types of obligation that arise in this assignment are unilateral
obligations (promises) and contracts. A Unilateral obligation is a responsibility; that exists for
one party, not both, to uphold what was agreed on, that will, in turn, benefit the other. It may
sometimes profit both. A contract is a legally binding agreement based on consent between two
or more individuals, in which an offer is created and accepted. It does not have to be written; it may
be verbally made or accepted. The purpose of a contract is to have some form of ownership over
what is agreed. It usually begins with an offer given by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many enter into social or domestic agreements every day with no intention to be legally bound
to what is accepted. If that is the case, then it can be shown that there was some intention to be
legally bound by the agreement and that any ordinary individual would presume that if the other
party does not keep to the agreement, there will be consequences that would follow. Bill and
Horace created a verbal agreement between friends to split any winnings at the casino, as was
the case in Robertson V Anderson. Agreements made in social situations are not binding
depending on its circumstances. However, based on the essential facts given, Robertson V
Anderson may be prominent, and Bill legally bound to the agreement made between himself and

Similar to what Dana Stevens is taking about in finding credibility in a television like 24, Jason
Zinser looks at this question in his article, The Good, the Bad, and The Daily Show. . Zinser
addresses both the benefits and downfalls of television, but ultimately ends up taking a stand
somewhere in the middle of how t.v. is both good and bad for people. Zinser s believes that The
Daily Show can be used as a starting point from which people can gain an understanding of
current events but it s not the most useful way. He claims that this type of information people
gain from watching a comedy news show can be both useful but damaging. The question that
needs to be addressed though, is why does it matter where people are gaining their knowledge
about the world and critical events as long as they are gaining some knowledge from what they re

properly. Although foreign and domestic issues aren t settled by popular vote, an informed public

far better than receiving no information at all, because if the public is informed about the news in

Cancer is an important global health issue which affects millions of people annually and burdens
national health systems. Despite modest reductions in the incidence of certain cancer types, overall
the prevalence of cancer is increasing worldwide (1). It has been estimated that approximately 14.1

Running head: LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES IN MY SISTER S KEEPER
Legal and Ethical Issues in My Sister s Keeper

Abstract
In this paper I am going to identify some the legal and ethical issues in My Sister s Keeper. Some
of those issues include emancipation of a minor, genetic engineering, and limited termination of
parental rights. I will be giving my opinion on these matters also.
My Sister s Keeper is about a family who conceives a child strictly for the use as bone marrow
donor for her gravely ill older sister. Kate is diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemiaat the
age of two. As their doctor tells them of their options, he asks Sara and Brian, the parents, have they

She left her morals at home on the kitchen table that day and kept leaving them behind. In this

Jesse is being neglected because he has a selfish mother. He is just a shadow that sulks and
creeps throughout the house and the city. As parents how they can they do that. I know that
when you are dealing with a seriously ill family member, some things do get neglected or put on
the back burner. But that thing should not be your child. Sara and Brian did not even realize
that Jesse was suffering with dyslexia. Anna and Kate have came up with a bunch of reasons as
to why Anna wants to be emancipated. At the age of eleven, Anna and her older brother, Jesse,
go hire a lawyer to sue their parents for the rights to Anna s body. The lawyer takes the case
because he knows what it is like to live a life where you have no control of your body. The
lawyer suffers from epilepsy. Anna wants to become a medically emancipated minor. The courts
had never heard of such a case and there is no such term as medically emancipated, legally defined.
With Anna becoming medically emancipated, it means that Sara and Brian s parental rights have
been terminated within limits. They still had to provide shelter, food, clothing, and other basics,
but they could not tell her what to do medically. In my opinion, an eleven year old is not responsible

The Act Of Selfishness In Ayn Rand s Sleepy Hollow
The act of selfishness is painted all over the story. This can be seen with our very own Ichabod
Crane, with him being selfish toward his relationship with Katrina wherein he did not truly love
her, but desired her father s wealth instead. In fact, it was in his plans to sell off the Van Tassel
family s farm once he d gotten married to Katrina. While it s true that he would help around the
places he stayed in and make the old wives happy, he did these things for his own benefit. He
only worked to make his hosts happy enough to feed him as much food as he wanted, not as a
kind deed or as a way to show his gratitude for letting him stay with them. Even as he left Sleepy
Hollow, he did not bother to come back to what he had left behind, but continued on his way as if
the village had never existed. If he had truly loved Katrina, or cared about the children he taught,
or those housewives he ate with, he would have come back, wouldn t he? It seems like he just

he, Brom Bones, was manly and powerful. Furthermore, he would constantly play pranks on the

through the death of one s companionship or never having a companionship in the first place. In
the novella Of mice and Men the character Candy gives us a good representation of the meaning
of the death of companionship within and throughout the book. There are multiple examples of
this but one in particular comes to mind; he rolled slowly over and faced the wall and lay

Increasing Unemployment Rate In Australia
Employment is a determinant of the cash rate; the RBA aims to set a cash rate that maintains full
employment in Australia. A higher unemployment rate increases the possibility of a rate cut as
lower rates boost business spending and investment which consequently boosts employment.
Employment has been varied across Australia, with capital cities experiencing more employment
growth than regional areas. Unemployment across Australia has been varied, Tasmania, South
Australia and Western Australia have had more fluctuations whereas New South Wales, Victoria
and Queensland have experienced less fluctuations. Overall, there has not been a significant drop in
the unemployment rate which can enable the RBA to increase the cash rate. Australia s current

The Importance Of Blood Test Experiments
Blood test measurements were gathering data on the following variables: LDL P concentrations
and particle analysis, LDL C concentrations, HDL concentrations, lipoprotein levels, and
triglyceride levels. Other variables the researchers were interested in were 125I LDL
concentrations in urine, degree of stenosis in extracranial and intracranial arteries, stroke severity,
functional outcome 3 months post stroke, CVD and related stroke events, and LDL receptor types.
The variables that the researchers controlled for in these particular studies were the types of
patients used, such as excluding patients due to not agreeing to have a blood sample taken, those
with prior risk for cardiac sourced embolism, and specific diets for the patients... Show more content

The two most common methods to gathering data utilized by the researchers in the various FH
studies either employed direct data collection, such as from medical records from their visits with
physicians or while they are inpatient in a hospital, or the researchers would change some aspect of
the person s life and then collect pertinent data over a set time period. The independent variables
that these studies focused on included hypertensive meds, antidiabetic meds, lipid lowering meds,
statins, intestinal cholesterol absorption inhibitors, prescription omega 3 fatty acids, and antiplatelet
agents that the patients were put on by their physicians, along with an isocaloric diet created
specifically for that particular study, the IV injected solution for the lipoprotein turnover studies,
and the lard based diet. The dependent variables that have been studied thus far include the degree
of stenosis, stroke severity, functional outcome, LDL particle size, the lipid profile variables
including total cholesterol, LDL, and HDL measurement, catabolic rate of LDL, plasma triglyceride
concentrations, LDL receptor activity, and sterol excretion. The secondary analysis

How Your Child Acts Essay
How Your Child Acts
First of all I think that in the back of every parents mind are questions concerning their child s
future. Like will it be a doctor, a lawyer, or the next president of the United
States. But with these questions there are also more questions that are not discussed freely like
what if it is a bad child or it is uncontrollable? And will it do drugs or try alcohol and smoke
cigarettes? Another question that might be in the back of a parents mind is about its child s
sexual orientation. I know this may seem far fetched to some people but if I had a child right now
in todays world, that question would not be in the back of my mind but in the front. I know that
any parent and including me will love their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance they used to take all her friends, we were all boys to baseball games and hockey
games. There was never another girl there except for herself. And I guess she felt comfortable
hanging around with boys and her parents didn t mind as long as she was happy, because that was
really what mattered. On the other hand there was my neighbors son. This boy was the total
opposite of the girl. He never played with boys but he was always around girls. He was always
teased by the other boys including me, but we were all young back then. But looking back at
this, it s weird to notice that we always made fun of the boy who acted like a girl but never did I
hear anyone make fun of the girl.
I think that the boys parents were more upset about the little boys playmates than anyone else.
The boys father, my neighbor used to push the boy into doing boy stuff like playing little league
baseball and pop warner football. Whenever the father saw us boys playing football or basketball
on the street, he would literally drag the boy out of the house to make him play with us. The
little boy would be in tears crying but you could still hear his father encouraging him to play. We
all knew that the boy was scared straight by his father and dared not to disobey his father, but he
didn t want to play. Even the boys mother was like his father. If other girls came to play with the

Describe The Characters Of Abraham Lincoln
1. Describe the character BOOTH in your own words as though we were writing them on the board.
Booth is a black man in his 30 s that is looking to settle down with Grace. Booth is the younger
brother of Lincoln that struggles to make any income. He is a good looking man, or at least he
portrays himself to be, that is somewhat dirty and unkempt due to the fact that he does not have
the money to afford running water. Usually he wears average streets clothes, maybe some rugged
jeans and a worn shirt, but from time to time he will wear a nice suit and shoes that he has stolen
from a department store. For the most part, Booth is an average sized man that has a rugged outer
appearance due to having to handle his own on the streets in the card game business.
2. Describe the character LINCOLN in your own words as though we were writing them on the
board.
Lincoln is a black man in his late 30 s that is the older brother of Booth. Lincoln is the brother that
makes the income of the two by acting as Abraham Lincoln. Since he plays Abe he must be a tall
kind of slender man, but no facial hair because he has to wear a fake beard. He also has a dirty
unkempt look about him because he neither has running water, resides in the same place as his
brother. He is somewhat older looking than Booth, and has an aged face and short hair that is
slowly thinning over the years due to having to step in as the father for Booth. Lincoln took on all
responsibility for Booth when both parents had

Mass Media And The Media
The fear of crime is one of the most lasting outcomes of a crime ridden society. Crime, deviance,
delinquency and other social problems have always been a staple of newspaper accounts, television
news shows and crime dramas. The majority of the population relies on the news media as the main
source of information and the basis on which they form their opinions and voting decisions.
Knowledge of these events is secondhand, filtered through the media graphically and textually, thus
appearing immediate, shocking, entertaining and informative. In today s society the media has
become our firsthand experience for our source of information, opinion, and news about the world.
While there is some debate as to how much influence the media actually has, there is some evidence
to suggest there is some connection. The controversial topic between mass mediaand the fear of
crimecan be explained by the influential aspects of the media, moral panics of crime and the fear of
victimization.
Furthermore because the media is such an integral part of our lives, it generates a great deal of
popular interest and debate, especially regarding controversial topics. However, defining fear of
crime has generated some controversy where no single agreed upon definition exists (Heath,
2012). The aspect of media and the fear of crime can be controversial because the media will
always take the side of a story that is more profitable even though they may know that it is not the
correct side to take in

Unidentified Foods Lab Report
Testing Food for Nutrients
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to find out the nutrient content of unidentified food samples and
to use chemical reagents to see if the unidentified foods for sugar, starch, protein and fat (lipid)

the amount of sugar, starch, protein or fat there is in the unknown substance.
Introduction
Carbohydrates are used for energy and structural support in cell walls of plants and exoskeletons
of crustaceans and insects. They are also used to make cell structures and can make a large group
of chemical compounds. Carbohydrates are also made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The
testing solution for carbohydrates is Benedict and iodine. Next is proteins, they help bulk up all
solid materials inside your body, such as your muscle, hair, skin, and inside organs. Proteins also

The Cliffhanger In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
I. Cliffhanger: a cliffhanger in literature is a device, borrowed from early serialized film, in which
a writer ends a chapter on a note of suspense, encouraging the reader to continue on to the next
chapter. What is the cliffhanger at the end of Chapter Thirty One?
In the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creechthe author ends Chapter Thirty One with a
cliffhanger. The protagonist, Sal calls her friend and tells her Phoebe, we ve got to find her. and
Phoebe replies That s what I ve been telling you. (pg. 132). This is a cliffhanger because the
author stops the chapter in the middle of the conversation without the reader finding out what Sal
and Phoebe are going to do to find Phoebe s mother. II. Refrain: How does the refrain change as
Sal and her grandparents get to the Badlands? What do you predict will happen?
In the novel Walk Two Moons the author Sharon Creech uses the technique of refrain to develop
the mood of the story. This refrain: the sound of the wind was hurry, hurry, hurry, and at night,
even the silent darkness whispered rush, rush, rush appears for the first time on page four. She
repeatedly comes back to the sound of the wind telling her to hurry and rush throughout her
journey. The author uses this refrain to set an ominous tone as well as to create a sense of urgency.
When Sal swept on across South Dakota toward the Badlands the author changes the refrain the
whispers no longer said, hurry, hurry or, rush, rush. They now said, slow down,

Over Many Years, Lois Lowry S Novels Have Been Analyzed
Over many years, Lois Lowry s novels have been analyzed by many. Lowry is known for
grasping measures of social control and taking them a step further. While some, such as Lucas
Kavner (2012) and Carter F. Hanson (2009) declare their acclamation for her out of the box writing
technique, scholars and Utopian studies, such as Lyman Tower Sargent (1988), Tom Moylan
(2014), and Fredric Jameson (1998), place emphasis on the contradiction that dystopia has on
nature.
One could only dream of a world without discrimination. In a world with no differences shown
hatred, crime, and civil disputes would be something unheard of. Popular, fame, winner and loser
would be unspoken words because diversity would not be allowed (Phillip Noyce, Neil ... Show

Intelligence , Integrity , Courage , Wisdom , and the Capacity to See Beyond. (Lowry, 1993, p. 62
63).
The Receiver of Memory is the one person in the community who stores all the past memories of
the time before Sameness. The position of Receiver of Memory is important because there may
be times where one must use the wisdom gained from history to aid the community s decision
making; guidance in the present using memories in the past. (Noyce, Koenigsberg, Silver, 2014).
The figurative community Lowry writes of lacks any color, memory, climate, or understanding of
their territory, all in an effort to uphold structural order and a true sense of equality beyond
personal individuality. Our people made that choice, the choice to go to Sameness. Before my
time, before the previous time, back and back and back. We relinquished color when we
relinquished sunshine and did away with differences. He thought for a moment. We gained control
of many things. But we had to let go of others. (Lowry, 1993, p. 95)
Though some scholars do not agree with the writing techniques of Lois Lowry, I argue that Lowry is
an amazing and independent writer. I find Lowry s writing to be very fascinating and somewhat
truthful in the real world even though these are fiction novels. While Lowry writes of these
innovative places, she uses symbolism which connects the character s world to our own world.

The Changes in Society’s Views on Interracial Dating over...
In each generation, it seems as if there is always a very controversial issue. It usually varies
from the legalization of marijuana or the lowering of the drinking age all the way to the views on
abortions. However, one thing is clear, the issue on interracial relationships is still as controversial
today as it was nearly fifty years ago. While times may have changed and society has gotten used to
these interracial relationships, it s still something that is being talked about regularly. Starting in the
1960 s, the issue on interracial relationships became more relevant. It sparked much controversy
after a couple from Virginia was arrested for participating in an interracial relationship. The case,
Loving versus Virginia, was taken to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Paul R. Spickard, race is derived from an individual s physical features, gene pools
and character qualities (ChГЎvez and DiBrito 40). Counselors Gita Seshadri and Carmen Knudson
Martin define race as the social identification attached to physical traits such as skin and hair
color, despite huge variations among people that are considered a part of a particular racial
group (44). In that case, what is considered to be an interracial relationship? Rose M. Kreider of
the Census Bureau defined an interracial relationship as one in which the spouses are identified
as falling into different categories where the choices are: American Indian, Asian, Black, White
and Hispanic (11). While there are many different types of interracial relationships, as stated by
Rose M. Kreider, in America most people understand interracial relationships to be between black
and white couples. Now, the question is: why are these relationships such a big deal? Why are
they so controversial? The answer to this question varies upon who one talks to, most importantly
what community. For example, in David Crary s article, he interviewed Kelley Kenney, a black
woman from Pennsylvania. She was quoted saying that the older black folks in her community
didn t want people to forget where they came from. Students at the University of South Florida had
a similar belief. They believed that the reason why interracial relationships were such a problem
was because the

After this they can assess the risk. The first risk they may want to look at is the control risk by
taking a look at how the internal controls system works at Smackey Dog Foods.
Stage 2: Test of internal controls By testing the effectiveness of the internal controls the auditor can
determine the control risk that lies within the company. The audit team can perform tests of
controls by making inquiries of appropriate client personnel, examining documents, records, and
reports maintained by Smackey, observing control related activities such as the one done for the
inventory procedures for returned Best Boy Gourmet dog food, and re perform the client procedures.
Stage 3: Substantive tests of Transactions The Smackey audit team needs to perform substantive
tests on the balances of the accounts receivables and inventory accounts. Moreover, substantive
tests can be done through performing substantive tests of transactions, analytical procedures and
test of details of balances. By running tests of transactions, which is similar to test of internal
controls the auditor will take an invoice but this time verifying the monetary amount of the
transaction.

The Elizabethan Poor Law
The Elizabethan Poor Law was passed in 1601 as a state response to the dire need of the poor in
British North America and acted as measures for the relief of destitution (Fowle, 1881, p.55).
Previously, the Catholic Church was Britain s state church, but on the decision of Henry VIII, the
state would become the source of aid for the poor (Finkel, 2006). Simultaneously, the feudal
system was winding down in England along with the societal norm that serfs were the
responsibility of landlords so as the textile industry grew, tenants were evicted to create space for
sheep due to the demand for their wool (Finkel, 2006). As the changes in structures and industry
took place, Finkel (2006) notes that there was an increasing number of homeless... Show more

A formal eligibility system would be enacted to establish who were the poor in very deed and the
Elizabethan Poor Law would be born.
Poor Laws, Politics, and Ideologies
Fowle (1881) notes that at no time were the vagrancy laws more severe or more severely
administered than in the reign of Henry VIII and this was also a time of great social and
religious hardship (p. 56). The change in the role of the Church in terms of aiding the poor as
well as the decline of the English feudal system, and the growing textile industry, created an
increasing number of poor and the need for inexpensive labour. With the varying societal
changes as well as the shifting relationship between Church and state, inevitably this caused a
strain between labour and profit. The ideas which influenced the Poor Law were that of a laissez
faire style government, the idea of less eligibility , and the principle of the perception of needs .
It was deemed that state aided workers should earn less than privately employed workers...so as to
avoid any upward pressures on wages in the private sector (Finkel, 2006, p. 50). The discrepancy
between the wages of state labourers and privately employed workers was supported by the laissez
faire government as well as neoliberalist ideals. There was also the

  • 2. The Smoke Signals Forgiveness Essay The Smoke Signals Forgiveness Smoke Signals, written by Sherman Alexie and directed by Chris Eyre, begins on July 4, 1976 on the Coeur d Alene Reservation. Arnold Joseph (Gary Farmer), drunk while celebrating the independence , lit off a firework and set the Builds the Fire residence on fire, killing the parents of Thomas Builds the Fire. Many people were already asleep in the house when the fire started, so no one saw Arnold s mistake, which he kept a secret from the whole reservation. Both Thomas Builds the Fire (Evan Adams) and VictorJoseph (Adam Beach), Arnold s son, were saved from the burning house. Arnold ran to catch Thomas in his arms after Thomas was thrown from a window. Victor and Thomas grew up together. After the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One day, Arlene received a call from Arnold s neighbor in Phoenix, Suzy Song (Irene Bedard), saying that Arnold had died and that someone should probably come down to Phoenix to take care of the death. This meant that Victor had to take a bus to Phoenix to get Arnold s possessions and drive his truck back to the reservation. There was just one problem, Victor didn t have the money for a bus pass, but Thomas did. The catch was, if Thomas gave Victor some money to go to Phoenix, Thomas got to come along too. Victor had no other choice but to accept the offer. And the journey begins. Victor and Thomas had never been off the reservation before. They experienced what it s really like to be a Native American in the real world. On the bus ride there, two white men took their seats and made rude comments about them being Native Americans. They received a lot of stares and uncomfortable looks from people as well. The bus ride to Phoenix was hard for Victor because he had to deal with Thomas talking the whole time. Victor especially didn t like it when Thomas brought up his father in conversation. In Phoenix, Thomas and Victor walked many miles through the desert to get to Arnold s old trailer. Suzy Song lived in a trailer there as well. They met Suzy right away, and she was very helpful. She and Thomas told stories to each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Overt Discrimination In The Workplace Employment discrimination in the United States is unlawful by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; employers, employer agencies, and labor organizations are prohibited to discriminate against a person based on race, color, sex, religion, and national origin (Belton, 1978). Although, Title VII passed half a century ago, sex discriminationis still present in the workplace. Feminist theory attempts describing and reveling overt and covert sex discrimination during the hiring process, exploring its possible origins and causes, and reducing or eradicating it from the workplace (Reskin, 2000). To attempt reducing sex discrimination, the first step is for society to recognize its existence according to the feminist theory (Reskin, 2000). A business woman is passed on a promotion within her company, for a man got it, although she has seniority and more experience; and a male nurse is passed on head of nurses promotion, for a female nurse, according to the hospital, has more nurturing traits, although he is as friendly, nurturing, and caring, without mentioning, he also has seniority and more experience. These are examples of overt discrimination since they are obvious, in both situations, by each person knowing employment qualifications and longevity of the other. Similarly, there are examples of covert discrimination; however, these are difficult to notice. Both men and women might be discriminated against if they are applying for an out of role job, meaning, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pros And Cons Of Propaganda Propaganda is not a recent idea or concept however since the creation of film propaganda has found its way into them, especially documentary s. Documentary filmmaking is a platform and mode of filmmaking associated with truth and actuality to present an overview of a topic or issue (Aufderheide, 2007). Audiences expect this when watching documentary films because generally the topic of a documentary filmis based on a real issue and/or event without the use with actors, sets and special effects (with the exception of docudramas) (Nichols, 2010). Although they may be based on a real world issue/event the filmmaker(s) behind the documentaries have an agenda and are trying to push certain ideologies or points of view on the audience. However, the assumption is made that they are doing this through fact and truth (Bizz). Propaganda on the other hand does not rely on truth or fact as it is an idea of dishonestly. Propaganda never tries to persuade or inform instead it attempts to deceive an audience by conveying/creating representations and ideas in a text that can only have one dominant reading (Aufderheide, 2007). Propaganda filmmaking is usually created by governments and political figures to impose hateful/nationalistic viewpoints and ideologies on the general populous (Aufderheide, 2007). Triumph of the Will(Riefenstahl, 1935) and Prelude to War (Capra, 1943) demonstrate that documentaries have the ability to create a false representation of history due to the filmmaker s ... It does not matter what country, ethnicity or religion a person is. It does not matter if you are a democrat, republican, communist, socialist or anarchist. We all share this common bond money. The following analysis will explain what LIBOR is, how manipulating LIBOR can have negative effects on the global economy, and what steps the global financial industry can take to ensure that a similar scandal never occurs again. I. Analysis of LIBOR and its manipulation What the major global banks decide to do can ultimately affect a farmer living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, thousands of miles away from the people that directly or indirectly affected his life. One of those ways that people across the globe are connected are through different financial rates, one of those rates being LIBOR. LIBOR stands for London Inter Bank Offered Rate. It is one of many benchmarks that banking institutions use to set interest rates for lending between banks (Romano Peluso). It is published in five currencies which include the Swiss franc, the euro, the pound sterling, the Japanese yen and of course the dollar (Kimberly Amadeo). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this gave way to an entrepreneurial approach that primarily focused on local development and employment growth in the following decades. This is mirrored across the capitalist world, but is perhaps most evident in the United States where the reduction in the flow of federal redistributions and local tax revenues after 1972 led to this revival in civic boosterism and entrepreneurialism (Harvey, 1989). It certainly has far reaching consequences in that future growth prospects may all be about playing the capitalist game , the paving to a zero sum development. To that, Harvey asserted that urban entrepreneurialism (1) is based on public private partnership so that local boosterism attracts external sources of funding, direct investments, and employment sources, (2) is speculative in general and thus compounded with risks and difficulties that are absorbed by the local public sector, and (3) places emphasis on political economy rather than economic projects that improve living and working conditions. The extension is a prime example of this because it was intended to bring business and entertainment to the Hudson Yards neighborhood, and it did many businesses in the area have seen increased profits since the project s construction leading to a development boom in its vicinity. However, it faced its own risks and difficulties from the start, seeing that it was supposed to be funded by an innovative tax incremental financing that issued city bonds for the construction to be repaid by future tax revenue from developers (Jaffe, ... They are important to be assessed routinely on every patient because the health status of a person is reflected in these vital signs since they are the indicators of body functions, and a change in vital signs allows the nurse or any other healthcare professional to know if there is anything wrong with the patient by being able to do a diagnosis, perform lab tests, and plan for interventions for those specific indications. Nurses assess vital signs for each patient and use them to compare their findings to accepted normal values and the patient s usual pattern of values. It is important ... • 11. Social Information Processing Theory Research Paper Social Information Processing Theory Social Information Processing Theory was developed by Joseph Walter s in 1992.It is a subtype of interpersonal communication theory that explains dynamics of online relationships. Social Information Processing Theory deals with the nature and structure of online relationships developed over computed mediated communication (CMC). The theory states that the online relationships are essentially same as any other form of face to face relationships, only difference being that online relationship may take longer time to develop. The Social Information Processing Theory highlights the fact that majority of online relationships develop in spite of the geographical distance or cultural diversity. The theory dwells on the fact of the mental image perceived and the mental image portrayed. The theory states a sender receiver model. The model consists of a sender (where people can select how they project themselves) and a receiver (people create an ideal image for the person at the other end). Channel is the medium through which the participants communicate and it is flexible in nature, as on an online platform people can choose their suitable time. • 12. Foils In Catch 22 In the book Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, nearly all of the characters in the book serve as foils toward the main character Yossarian. The central idea of Catch 22 that Joseph Heller is trying is prove is that war is crazy and pointless. He shows this with the fact that all of the character in the book except for Yossarianand Orr are crazy. One of the very important foils in this book is Dunbar, who is Yossarians closest friend. Other than being Yossarians closest friend in the war, Dunbar is a foil to Yossarian because he has extremely similar philosophies and ways of acting. Because the characters are so similar, often times throughout the book many of Yossarian s philosophies and ways of acting are discovered through Dunbar, which makes him a foil. Dunbar as a foil to Yossarian is shown in many ways, one of which being that they both have a twisted sense of humor which only they understand. A way this is shown is with their ironic fear of death, in which they fail to understand why people are shooting at them. Heller uses Dunbar s sheer will to keep surviving in the face of death as a comparison to Yossarian. They would upload personal information to sharing websites such as the well known one, www.ask.fm or Facebook. Every piece of data they would decide to share to the world enabled people from anywhere to read and acknowledge the information about them which could have put them in potential danger to threats that would complicate their lives. Since they decided to do so, future employers may have had the chance to find out about this information which contained personal data, inappropriate language and dangerous actions. The research was conducted by Dr. Sian Beilock and her colleagues. Beilock is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago and an expert in, choking under pressure. Choking under pressure, refers to the phenomenon that occurs when one performs below his or her ability or skill level during an especially challenging task or experience. Beilock has also written a book entitled Choke: What the Secrets of the Brain Reveal About Getting It Right When You Have To. According to Psych Central, Beilock has done prior research that has shown pressure filled experiences or situations may reduce working memory, which is part of the brain s processing power. Our working memories allow us to recall information needed to perform everyday tasks. However, working memory has limited processing power, so when worries creep up, the ability to recall and retrieve information becomes limited. Prior research has also indicated expressive writing where individuals write about emotional or traumatic experiences repeatedly over weeks decreases worries in individuals who are depressed. The current study aimed to determine if writing in a classroom could help students perform better on tests. Additionally, the researchers hypothesized that just one opportunity to write before taking a test would reduce worries and improve exam scores. In one experiment, the researchers recruited 20 college students to take two short mathematics tests. The researchers instructed the students to simply do their best on the first test (pre test). ... • 22. Symbolism And Symbolism In The Thing In The Forest The Thing in the the story The Thing in the Forest is a far more symbolic image than just a scary and dreadful monster that lingers in the forest. That also happens to be seen by two little girls that meet and become close friends while on a their way to safety. The story takes place during World War II. The two main characters are two little girls Penny and Primrose. They are sent with a large number of other children to evacuate and to be sent away by train from their homes in the city. Due to the bombings by the German warplanes on the british cities. So these young children were forced to evacuate a world of war to more secure and safer locations in the countryside. All of the detail and information given in the story leads up to some really big symbolic imagery. Like the little girls Penny and rimrose for instance. The way Penny is described in the story is as very Thin and dark and taller Had a bloodless transparent paleness, a touch of blue in her fine lips. (Byatt 325) Something about these words leaves the mind to wander about the girl Penny. Maybe Primrose had mad and imaginary friend due to the loneliness and fear of being sent away. Also there s the idea that Penny is actually a friend of Primrose but had died, now Primrose sees her ghost and keeps in contact with it. This is symbolic to the story because primrose is finding comfort and safety within a friend that is maybe isn t really there or exist. ( Bryatt 325) The main symbolic imagery in the story happens one day when Penny and Primrose decide to go and wonder in the forest just like any other curious and adventurous little child does. To a place that would seem like a mystery or just fun to go and look at. As they are in the forest wandering around they come into contact with a Thing, a thing they ve never seen, smelled, or heard before. They see this thing it s a worm like monster gliding through the forest leaving tails of smile and it s such a horrendous sight that they never forget it. All the descriptions lead up to the bigger picture of what the Thing really represents in the story and what back ground it has to tell. • 23. The Giant Impact Theory On The Moon In 1975, two scientists by the name of Dr. William K. Hartmann and Dr. Donald R. Davis, came up with a groundbreaking new theory on how the moon was created. Their theory stated At the time Earth formed 4.5 billion years ago, other smaller planetary bodies were also growing. One of these hit earth late in Earths growth process, blowing out rocky debris. A fraction of that debris went into orbit around the Earth and aggregated into the moon(Hartmann Herres 1). This theory is known as the Giant Impact Theory and is the accepted theory in the scientific community of how the moon was created. Even though this theory is accepted by most, there are still some people who don t hold this theory to be true. I agree with Davis and Hartmann s Giant Impact Theory that a great collision occurred and created the moon. The Giant Impact Theory is supported by the lack of iron on the moon, the moon rocks from the Apollo missions, and its acceptance in the scientific community. Mostly every planet in our solar systemhas some traces of iron that can be found. But the moon is unique, because there is little to no iron on the moon. The Moon has an abnormally low density compared to the terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars), indicating that it lacks high density iron (Giant Impact Theory For Moon Formation Boosted 1). The density of the moon is 3.346 g/cm3, while the Earth is much denser at 5.52 g/cm3 (Cain 1). The moons low density correlates with the Giant Impact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today the majority language spoken is Chinese followed by Spanish and then English. These languages all came from another language and then evolved as the world got bigger and grew older. • 29. Women Of Ancient Greek Vs. Athenian Women Women in Ancient Greece Differences Ancient Greece is a country that houses two of the most infamous societies in the world known as the Spartans and the Athenians. Women of ancient Sparta were known as strong minded women who enjoyed more freedom than Athenian women. Although Spartan women were to a certain extent dependent on men, they had some influence in men s politics, which poses the question: in what form did they influenced the decisions made by Greek men? Much like Spartan women, the Athenian women had a similar role to play in their men s lives, such as wives and courtesan, These were other classes of women though, which were less respectable than a citizen s wife known as hetaera; According to (Jorgen Christian Meyer). They were given more freedom and were normally educated in conversation, singing and dancing, which were ways of pleasing men in those eras. Moreover, women in ancient Greece such as courtesan women could not marry Spartan men, nor could courtesan women marry Athens men as these women were not respected as wives but were the mistresses of the husband. The Spartan women served as wives and were the only women able to give birth to Spartan children. This is in opposition to the other Spartan women who just served as mingling entertainment for the Spartan men s leisure. Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Law Enforcement In today s law enforcement environment everyone agrees that departments should be more effective and efficient, but how do we measure and gauge this? A good evaluation of a department should include the documentation of activities and performance within it. The difference between efficient and effective is that efficiency refers to how well you do something, whereas effectivenessrefers to how useful it is. The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines effectiveness as: producing a result that is wanted or having an intended effect. Efficiency is defined as: the ability to do something or produce something without wasting materials, time, or energy. The television shows that people watch today are a primary form of entertainment for a majority of America, along with conveying information to viewers. Zinser addresses both the benefits and downfalls of television, but ultimately ends up taking a stand somewhere in the middle of how t.v. is both good and bad for people. Zinser s believes that The Daily Show can be used as a starting point from which people can gain an understanding of current events but it s not the most useful way. He claims that this type of information people gain from watching a comedy news show can be both useful but damaging. The question that needs to be addressed though, is why does it matter where people are gaining their knowledge about the world and critical events as long as they are gaining some knowledge from what they re watching. As Zinser states, An informed public is the grease that keeps democracy running properly. Although foreign and domestic issues aren t settled by popular vote, an informed public wields great democratic power . It doesn t matter whether information comes from a comedy news show or from a hard hitting formal newscast, any information that a person gains from television is far better than receiving no information at all, because if the public is informed about the news in the world they have an understanding of it and could possibly make decision about things ... I know that when you are dealing with a seriously ill family member, some things do get neglected or put on the back burner. But that thing should not be your child. The courts had never heard of such a case and there is no such term as medically emancipated, legally defined. With Anna becoming medically emancipated, it means that Sara and Brian s parental rights have been terminated within limits. This can be seen with our very own Ichabod Crane, with him being selfish toward his relationship with Katrina wherein he did not truly love her, but desired her father s wealth instead. In fact, it was in his plans to sell off the Van Tassel family s farm once he d gotten married to Katrina. He only worked to make his hosts happy enough to feed him as much food as he wanted, not as a kind deed or as a way to show his gratitude for letting him stay with them. Even as he left Sleepy Hollow, he did not bother to come back to what he had left behind, but continued on his way as if the village had never existed.
