Nuestra Familia Essay
A gang is an organized group with a recognized leader whose activities are either criminal or, at the
very least, threatening to the community. (Walker, 2011) Throughout history there have been some
infamous gangs that have gotten media attention and others that have gone under the radar. One of the
more underground gang structures are prison gangs. The Nuestra Familia may not be in the news as
much anymore compared to other gangs, but they are nothing to be taken lightly. Prison gangs have
been around since the late 20th century and only seem to be getting stronger if nothing is going to be
done to prevent them. Gangs in prison have members in and out of prison. One of the more popular
gangs that has been gaining steam recently is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(NF 2011) This divide proved to be an igniter of the gang war between the Mexican Mafia and
Nuestra Familia.
The newly formed Nuestra Familia engaged in prison war against the Mexican Mafia throughout the
70 s until the later 1970 s when a formal divide was acknowledged between the gangs. After the
formal divide Nuestra Familia began making allies with other Californian Prison gangs like the Black
Guerilla family to defeat a common enemy, The Mexican Mafia. On the other side the Mexican Mafia
teamed up with the Aryan Brotherhood to combat the newly formed Nuestra Familia and Black
Guerilla Family alliance. In order for the Nuestra Familia to gain power in the prisons it has to control
the contraband coming in and out of prison. This is where the foot soldiers, the Norteños, came in
handy. Norteños is a Spanish term for northerners. (Gangland, 2008) The Norteños operated under
leadership from the Nuestra Familia members in prison. The Norteños used the trafficking of drugs
like marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine to gain currency. They also had successful
prostitution and identity theft rings to sustain their dominance in northern California. This held true,
the power of the Nuestra Familia has infinitely grown since its beginning in the 60 s.
The Nuestra Familia kept gaining power until the institution of the federal Racketeer Influenced and
Corrupt Organizations act (RICO).

Shared Knowledge And Personal Knowledge
Shared knowledge and personal knowledge, although they may come from the same concept of
acquiring them through a variety of situations, it differs on the process of gaining them. Thereupon,
such approach is seen through human sciences and natural sciences. Human sciences portray shared
knowledge through socio psychological experiments and theories created from personal experiences
and circumstances, as well as a set of collective norms and values that change depending on a group of
society or culture. On the other hand, natural sciences are made up of theories, formulation of
hypothesis and through experiments; which are obtained from paradigm shifts where it involves
perception, reasoning, language, and memory. But how does shared knowledge and personal
knowledge differ or are similar in both natural and human sciences?

Home Depot Low Cost Strategy
The Home Depot has enjoyed success implementing a focus low cost strategy by playing on the
wishes of consumers to turn their current home to a dream home. This combination of strategy and
marketing allowed the company to taste success at a very early stage of development. The company
faces and will face monumental challenges from Political Legal, Economic, and Social forces. The
challenges created by political legal forces will take effect if legislation is created to reduce illegal
immigration. The republican nominee for the presidential is running on a campaign to stop illegal
immigration. The increase trend in consumers want to be involved in DIY project increases demand

A New Position As Director Of Industrial Operations
In November 1981, I began the new position as Director of Industrial Operations (DIO). There was
much work to do.: The bus availability was u, unacceptable, the Commissary had a terrible reputation,
and there was no security plan; important as the DIO was also the Security, Plans, and Operations
(SPO). I charged the Motor Pool Lieutenant for two plans; improve bus availability and establish a
Community Shuttle Bus route that would take people from the housing areas to the Commissary. We
implemented both plans a week later. We advertised the new shuttle bus and I road it often to ensure
its timeliness and utilization. I hired a security officer to write a plan and coordinate it with all the
Units and Community Staff. We initiated a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My Master Sergeant Deputy was sitting on the couch in my office and noticed a shadow on the wall
just outside the window behind my desk. He called my attention to it, and we looked out the window.
There was a 1 inch diameter rope coming down from the roof above. The workers had finished so he
and I went up on the roof to get a better look. When we got up there, we saw the rope attached to a
large fire extinguisher and tied off on a vent pipe. There was a note that read: Greetings from the
Baader Meinhof Gang. We cleared the entire facility and called the Quick Response Battalion to
activate the quick response plan. The Criminal Investigation Division and the bomb squad came, but
no Battalion response team. They found a fire extinguisher bomb with 13 pounds of TNT in it. That
was my 8th near death experience, but more importantly, the bomb s timing exposed the kindergarten
located just below it. I activated the emergency response plan, but the responsible battalion didn t
respond. I was furious, but the Chief of Staff said it was better that we kept it low profile. Politics
dictated no Armored Personnel Carriers should be roaming the downtown streets.

Symbolism In Into The Wild
Symbols are used to represent many things, including distance, isolation, and journeys. Into the Wild
is a film that is based off a true story, which was written by Jon Krakauer. Into the Wild contains many
symbols related to the topics of distance, isolation, and journeys. Likewise, The Catcher in the Rye,
written by J.D. Salinger, includes a series of symbols as well. The title, Into the Wild, represents Chris
McCandless s journey of finding himself when he runs away from his home, so he can live in the wild.
The title of The Catcher in the Rye is symbolic of what Holden wants to be when he is older. Holden
wants to be the person who waits by the rye and catches all the kids that are about to jump off. This
represents how Holden is scared of the transfer from childhood to adulthood, he wants to prevent the
kids from growing up. A great story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Money influenced them to do what the believe in and to think what they want to think. Salinger wrote
in the perspective of a teenager who is almost obsessed with money. To Holden the amount of money
someone has represents what they are like. As stated, It isn t important, I know, but I hate it when
somebody has cheap suitcases. It sounds terrible to say it, but I can even get to hate somebody, just
looking at them, if they have cheap suitcases with them (Salinger 121). This quote shows that Holden
was so caught up in the world of money that it makes him sick to see someone to have even one thing
cheap. On the other hand, Chris believed money was not needed. In the beginning of the film, Chris is
seen during all his money and then living on his feet and the stuff on his back. Chris does not care
about money at all, he never wanted to be associated with money. While Holden loved money,
possibly more than life itself, Chris hated money as much as he hated his abusive father. To tie
together, both stories contain the symbols of money, hats, and

Television Coverage And Alternative Media Coverage
The difference in mass media coverage and alternative media coverage is that mass media focuses
more on a broader relationship between the Call of Duty franchise and the USDoD; however,
alternative media goes more in depth to the subject. When accessing mass media sources, their content
often filled with positive takes of the subject because they are usually funded by the company. For
instance, game developers would not want bad reviews of their content out on mass media sources like
CNN because it reduces the profit. Also it appeals to most retailers, such as Gamestop, Wal Mart, or
Target. On the other hand, alternative media gives a more closely look of the contents of the game.
The Call of Duty franchise in this case, Advanced Warfare and the USDoD have been working with
each other in making the FPS game. The technology applied in the game are currently ideas from the
USDoD. For example, the weapons, the exoskeleton, and the style. They are ideas from DARPA as
well. There are many different technologies presented in Advance Warfare. For instance, the use of the
Tac 19, which blast energy instead of slug or buckshot. These type of technology is influence by the
USDoD or DARPA because without their collaborations of such weapons, Advance Warfare may
result to using weapons available today. For example, assault rifles like the M 19 or Scar H. Noam

Clarus Vs Woyzeck
After reading through Doctor Johann Christian August Clarus s legal accountability on Johann
Woyzeck one manages to immerse themselves in Clarus s thoughts on Woyzeck and whether or not he
is accountable for the murder he committed. Throughout Clarus s report, I received such biased
thoughts that it became hard to keep moving on. Managing to continue on with the report, it became
very clear very fast that Clarus believes in an eye for an eye, or in this case, punishment for crime
above all else. This being the case it made me wonder whether or not it was just Clarus resenting the
fact he had to write this report a second time, or the fact that Clarus believes in legal accountability no
matter the case. After deciding that it must be the latter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But after reading Buchner s drama it is hard to ignore the fact that the drama and Clarus s report are
two completely different ways of looking into this case. After watching the film, I felt as if I truly got
a feel for Woyzecks character when in the book elements are placed throughout that bring upon the
ideas of sanity and unsound mind. Throughout the film the main piece that stood out above just
reading the book was the facial expressions that the character Woyzeck gives, but out of all of them
one rises above the rest. The facial expression was that of just a person who seemed to not be fully
aware what was going on in any scenario, as if something must be wrong in their head or at the very
least, always preoccupied with worrisome thoughts that distracted them from reality. Just by closely
examining these expressions, one can take them as a response to Clarus s thoughts on Woyzecks state
of mind during the murder he committed. Regardless of what the producer of the film intended.
However when just examining the book by itself, one truly begins to see this critical response to
Clarus s report. In the scene in which he is with his military friend Andres, one gets a first glimpse at
Woyzeck and the question of stable mind. Something s moving behind me, under me. (stamps on
ground.) Hollow you hear that? It s all hollow down there. The Freemasons! (pg. 137) When
comparing this bit with Clarus s thoughts on Woyzecks visions of Freemasons, it is hard to conclude
that it is just the fault of just high blood pressure and

Instead, I ask that you give up a few minutes of your lives to sit back, let that gown flow and enjoy the
final curtain call of your high school career. Enjoy the sights and sounds of today, right now; and be
aware of the mindfulness opening your senses and releasing your inhibitions can summon.
Feel the tingle on your eyes; it is trying to tell you something so pay attention to it. Look, do you see
it? That s anxiety, a thick and pulsating anxiety that is flowing through the air right now from person
to person. It is a stream of consciousness that is multiplied in this medium only because we all have
the same questions: Do I have time to go to the bathroom? When will this Asian fool shut up? Who is
this guy sitting next to me and why is he so ugly? The anxiety will not die. Capture the anxiety in your
mind as a visual aspect of tonight. Remember it.
Let the twitch in your ear awake your emotions. Listen carefully. It s the sound of a gloomy day. What
is usually a dismal tune is now replaced with the bittersweet melody of our graduation ceremony
under the clouds. Ask yourself, when was the last time you realized the song, instead of the sight of a
day? Capture the drizzle as an audio aspect of tonight. Remember it.

Persuasive Essay On Prison Reform
Today, it seems almost incomprehensible that so many people with serious mental illnesses reside in
prisons instead of receiving treatment. Over a century and a half ago, reform advocates like Dorothea
Dix campaigned for prison reform, urging lawmakers to house the mentally ill in hospitals rather than
in prisons. The efforts undertaken by Dix and other like minded reformers were successful: from
around 1870 to 1970, most of the United States mentally ill population was housed in hospitals rather
than in prisons. Considering reformers made great strides in improving this situation over a century
and a half ago. Granted, mental hospitals in the late 19th and early 20th century were often badly run
and critically flawed, but rather than pushing for reform of these hospitals, many politicians lobbied
for them to close their doors, switching instead to a community based system for treating the mentally
ill. Although deinstitutionalization was originally understood as a humane way to offer more suitable
services to the mentally ill in community based settings, some politicians seized upon it as a way to
save money by shutting down institutions without providing any meaningful treatment alternatives.
This callousness has created a one way road to prison for massive numbers of impaired individuals
and the inhumane warehousing of thousands of mentally ill people. Nevertheless, there are things that
can be done to lower the rate mentally ill persons are being incarcerated. Such

Essay On Legalizing Medical Marijuana
Legalization of Medical Marijuana The controversy on the topic is that Americans link marijuana to
uneducated, unemployed, and lazy individuals who deal with addiction. Though there are valid points
for the legalization of the drug, there is a worry about how the drug will affect the users. Although
opponents say that legalizing medical marijuana is a back door method of legalizing the drug for
recreational use, the U.S. should legalize medical marijuana because it will reduce crime, increase
revenue, provide more research, and will help treat numerous medical conditions. Many people think
that if marijuana is legalized, there will be an onslaught of crime. (Delmore) Studies have shown that
the legalization of marijuana has truly reduced the crime rate. Robert Morris, an associate professor of
criminology at UT Dallas, said, After controlling for a host of known factors related to changes in
crime rates we accounted for factors such as poverty, employment, education, even per capita beer
sales, among other things we found no evidence of increases in any of these crimes for states after
legalizing marijuana for medical use (Ferner). He goes on to say that the studies show that homicides

Managing And Analyzing Big Data
Managing and analyzing big data is a huge task for all organizations of all sizes and across all
industries. If a business s plan to implement a data management tools there is a need for a more
realistic way of capturing information about their customers, products, and services. Mining data is
often in the terabytes and organizations need to be able to quickly analyze that data and then pull
appropriate information needed to make managerial decisions. Further, with the insurgence of social
media, smart devices and click stream, data is generated daily on global networks through interactions.
The use of data management technologies allow a company to interface unstructured data and
structured data to gleam information that is usable for business managers to make sound business
decisions, improve sales and to decrease operating costs. Big data integration and analysis has evolved
for organizations to store, manage, and manipulate vast amounts of data then provide the appropriate
information when it s needed to meet business objectives. Big data is an element that allows
companies to leverage high volume data effectively and not in isolation. Big data needs to be quickly
accessible and have the ability to be analyzed. Data stores or warehouses are one way data is managed
that is persistent, protected and available as long as the data is needed. The forefather to data stores is
relational data bases, relational data bases put in place decades ago are still in use today

Poverty In America Research Paper
Poverty is a very big problem happening around the world, especially in America. America is known
for being successful, however, the difference between the rich and poor is very big. A great example
will be a recession that happened in America in 2007 until 2009. These people living in poverty suffer
getting jobs, supporting their family with the lack of money they earn and don t have a proper home or
education. For these reasons, the economy is affected negatively.
A recession, the definition by Cambridge dictionary, is a period when the economy of a country is not
successful and conditions for business is bad. A massive amount of Americans lost wealth during the
recession that happened in 2007 2009. According to Scholars Strategy Network, to this day, this

Americans. Losing wealth led to to the Americans giving up their homes ... Show more content on

and nutrition for their growth. Poverty can also affect sickness that lasts for a long time. Nextly,
psychosocial outcome is an effect of poverty. Children living in poverty has a big chance of getting
emotional problems like anxiety or depression. Lastly, poverty affects academic achievement,
especially for young children. A study from the American Psychological Association shows that the
stress of living in poverty can affect children s memory, which will be a big problem for their future.

Number Two Effect
Number one was one that had a lot of emotional impact that was taking place throughout the duration
of the song. It expressed a tone color that was orange and very intense. There was a lot of conflict that
was taking place between Ruth and Fredrick during this time. The melody showed pitches that made
up the different parts of the song. For example, both Ruth and Fredrick take turns on who takes the
melody of the song depending on who is dominant at certain points of the song. Fredrick is more
dominant and the beginning and then Ruth takes the attention later on. Harmony took place as Ruth
and Fredrick are singing different parts at the same time and the tones are sounding simultaneously.

There was a tone color of purple because it was very shocking what was being said, but the paradox
part got very upbeat. This part of the story was very surprising and something that I was no expecting.
The melody that was used in number two was used by expressing different pitches. This in relation
into which one of the character was singing at the time. During the duration of this song, the
performers were the Pirate King, Frederick, and Ruth. In coalition to this, the harmony are the sounds
that were sounding simultaneously and throughout this song, the performers would sing together.
There were also times were Ruth was in more of the background which was used to create a different
melody. They also used rhythms that are known throughout the song. For example, at one point it
sounds like a circus theme song. This is used to show how this scene is intended to be one where there
is humor expressed. They are laughing and enjoying the time because Frederick is finding out that
because he was born on Leap Year he is actually only five years old. The meter that was used in song
number two was one that fluctuated depending on what the song was saying. There was no set meter
that it was focused on being. For this song, the texture is also polyphonic because they are singing the
part about paradox at the same time and it shares importance with one another. The dynamics are used
in this song when the crescendos are placed to

How Does Friesen Use Magic In The Tempest
In opposition to Gibson, Ryan Friesen believes that Shakespeare was aware of magic in his culture,
but that he used it more as a plot device rather than as a manifestation of his own beliefs in the
supernatural. Friesen explains that while witchcraft and diabolic magic were popular among
audiences, universal themes were more important. In relation to both Doctor Faustus and Macbeth, he
says sin and a hunger for power are themes that are contradicted if the tragic protagonist s fate is
blamed more on his occult prowess than on his decisions to deceive, exploit, and murder his cohorts,
(122). This helps to show how Shakespeare s writing expertize was illustrated even better with his
delicate use of the supernatural. Other playwrights of early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As far as scholars can tell, all of the supernatural in this play was made up entirely by Shakespeare,
disregarding the chance that he was inspired by a play that was never found (Gibson 139). In the eyes
of Friesen, however, The Tempest was more concerned with the aesthetic and thematic use of magic
rather than using it as a depiction of a particular supernatural being. Friesen says, in the use of magic
as a thematic tool, a reflection of ways in which knowledge and power are gained and governance
sought on a middle ground between theory and experience, (Friesen 190). As Prospero s magic is not
particularly based off one of Shakespeare s magic toolbox materials, Gurr claims that The Tempest s
highly spectacled use of staging operates as a metaphor for Shakespeare s own art (191). In fact, this
play is the only one that actually uses stage spectacle and stage business as much as it does (191). This
stage business included a quaint device for Ariel to use to make the banquet vanish, in which the
banquet would have needed to be fastened to a reversible top table (192). Henslowe s list also
included a bit about the exotic costumes the goddesses would be wearing (200). And Gurr explained
that there was likely a way to create a wet look for the mariners after the shipwreck (184). The
Tempest is such an exception to the common devices Shakespeare used, in which his focus was a little
less about the use of magic thematically, and maybe a little more about spiting his contemporaries and
other influential thinkers of the

Should Community College Should Be Free
Should Community College be Free? In the article, As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama s Free
Community College Idea written by Joanne Jacobs, the author states the different arguments between
whether or not Obama s idea of making community college free is a good idea for both the institutions
and for the students planning on attending. This can then lead to colleges not getting any funding
because they won t be getting any money, tuition wise, from the students but rather the government.
Although the idea of free community college is what everyone believes is the best option, I think it
shouldn t be free because tuition for low income students is technically already free, four year
universities cost much more, and lastly because this can then lead to competition between low income
students and upper middle class students. Many Americans today believe that if you are in the lower
class, you won t be capable of attending college and will end up just working tedious jobs your whole
life with no college education. Many don t know if one falls into the category of a low income student,
they are eligible to apply to all the financial help colleges provide in order to go to college for free.
They don t need it written, by law that community college must be free. According to College Board,
tuition at community colleges averages $3,347 per year, and many students are eligible to receive
around $6,000 per year in Pell Grants provided from FAFSA or even the Dream Act. This

Dr. Beck s Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Over the centuries many forms of psychotherapy have emerged to facilitate change and improve
people s quality of life. Every therapy aims to assist people who are experiencing mental health
problems and some have proven more effective than others over time. In the 20th century the most
prevalent form of psychotherapy was psychoanalysis. However, by the 1970 s many other forms of
short term psychotherapy began to dominate. Today there are estimated to be over 400 different types
of psychotherapies (Rector, 2010). When these psychotherapies are compared, only a few stand out
which have really proven effective. One of the most effective short term therapies in our time has been
Cognitive Therapy. Psychiatrist Dr. Aaron T. Beck pioneered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
back in the 1960 s amongst other ground breaking therapists such as Albert Ellis. Dr. Beck originally
studied and practiced psychoanalysis and later discovered that CBT had more impact in treating some
of the more common mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. This short term psychotherapy
focuses on current problems in the here and now aiming to change unhelpful or negative thinking and
behaviours (Westbrook, Kennerley, Kirk, 2011). One of the key components of short term or time
limited therapy is to work collaboratively with clients in structured psychotherapy sessions to form a
case conceptulaisation. This provides an outline of the client s problems. Based on this
conceptualisation, the

Many claims located in the text either do not represent the whole truth or contain overgeneralized
solutions. As an example, one passage says how Republicans are attempting to militarize the border
and lobbying for for less support of protected animal sanctuaries whose locations range all along the
border with US and Mexico. The main act he claims that did these two situations is the Border
Security Act of 2006. A quick Google search of the votes casted on that act shows how 53 democrat
congress people and 31 democratic senators supported it. The 53 supporting democrats in congress
might not show strong bipartisan support, but the 31 supporting democrats in the Senate who sided
with the Republicans does show this. These facts show how not just the Republicans wish for border
security, but also some democrats in congress and most of them in the Senate desired it. Clifford also
claims that since the 1990s, since the first part of the barrier became erected, the wall has claimed
more than 6000 lives. At first the number polarized people, but to see the number further one must

the US under any circumstance and the border fence assists in

Negotiation Theory Essay
NEGOTIATION Negotiation theory Last updated 9 months ago The foundations of negotiation theory
are decision analysis, behavioral decision making, game theory, and negotiation analysis. Another
classification of theories distinguishes between Structural Analysis, Strategic Analysis, Process
Analysis, Integrative Analysis and behavioral analysis of negotiations. Individuals should make
separate, interactive decisions; and negotiation analysis considers how groups of reasonably bright
individuals should and could make joint, collaborative decisions. These theories are interleaved and
should be approached from the synthetic perspective. Common Assumptions Of Most Theories
Negotiation is a specialized and formal version of conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the parties have contradicting incentives to cooperate or defect. If one party cooperates or
makes a concession and the other does not, the defecting party might relatively gain more. Trust may
be built only in repetitive games through the emergence of reliable patterns of behaviour such as tit for
tat. This table illustrates the options and possible outcomes of the Negotiator s Dilemma. Process
Analysis Process analysis is the theory closest to haggling. Parties start from two points and converge
through a series of concessions. As in strategic analysis, both sides have a veto (e.g. sell, not sell; pay,
not pay). Process analysis also features structural assumptions, because one side may be weaker or
stronger (e.g. more eager to sell, not willing to pay a certain price). Process Analysis focuses on the
study of the dynamics of processes. E.g. both Zeuthen and Cross tried to find a formula in order to
predict the behaviour of the other party in finding a rate of concession, in order to predict the likely
outcome. The process of negotiation therefore is considered to unfold between fixed points: starting
point of discord, end point of convergence. The so called security point, that is the result of optional
withdrawal, is also taken into account. Integrative Analysis Integrative analysis divides the process
into successive stages, rather than talking about

Magnet School
In today s world violence, chaos, and death has become too common and too redundant. It seems as
though every day there is a new story in the newspaper about police brutality , the corruptions of
society , and civil wars within developing countries. Despite the fact that we can easily look up
information about the daily traditions and values of different cultures around the world we fail to do
so. The lack of knowledge about other people and societies ,besides our own, causes a shallow
understanding of why people do the things we hear and see in the headlines. This magnet school

Often times the person writing the new story is unable to give a full representation of the situation at
hand simply because they do not have the experiences of someone who has actually been a part of the
group of people that were affected. Is the person writing the story has studied the culture and rituals of
the people they will be able to give a clearer understanding of the story.Today many news stories are
given from the point of view of someone on the outside looking in. However, I believe if they were
written by someone who understood the culture of the people group they are talking about they could
turn it into a story that is looking from the inside out. When people read a story that is in the
perspective of the people that are experiencing changes, because of this I believe readers differently

because of all the chaos in their homeland. Many Americans, however feel that taking in Syrian
refugees could be dangerous because they could possibly be a terroristic threat to America. I believe
people feel this way because they have not been exposed to the fight that every Syrian is forced to

Time In The Great Gatsby
The concept of time is mentioned in The Great Gatsby at least 450 times, through character names,
nouns, and occurrences. Time being such a heavily focused on subject in the novel shows how focused
F. Scott Fitzgerald was on showing the positives and negatives of making time an important aspect of
how life is perceived and lived. Fitzgerald s outlook on time is one of longing and regret, portrayed in
Gatsby s persona, actions, and hopefulness.
Gatsby is born a poor man with not much to show for himself in his early life, until he meets a rich
young lady who flips his world upside down. Daisy shows Gatsby her love built on broken promises
as she promises to marry him once he comes home from Oxford but ends up marrying Tom Buchanan
before Gatsby can be home to stop the wedding. Once Gatsby realizes this as he returns home, he
shapes his life around doing nothing but creating a world that would bring Daisy back into his arms
just like their younger days. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is insinuated that Gatsby did not make his money in the most ethical way when Tom shares that he

this scheme up with talk of inheriting his money from old family, but is not very consistent in his lies,
as Nick notices him use several different answers at separate times. I think he hardly knew what he
was saying when I asked him what business he was in he answered, That s my affair before he realized
that it wasn t the appropriate reply (Fitzgerald 103). While Gatsby may have been successful in his

Effects Of Chronic Illness On The Children
Chronic illness affects 15% of all children in the United States, however, the impact of this particular
trauma is often overlooked (Ferro Boyle, 2013). Children with chronic illnesses endure frightening
diagnoses, painful treatments, and uncertain futures. The stress that results from these new realities
influences crucial development for the child, as well as further development for the entire family. The
effects of ill children being physically and socially withdrawn from normal activities then result in
lower self esteem and decreased self concept. In addition to the effects of chronic illness on the child
afflicted, the role of the parent or sibling assumes new meaning while learning how to cope with
caring for an ill child. It is crucial for the family of a chronically ill child to be well informed on the
resources made available to them. A case study of a young boy, Tom, who was diagnosed with Crohn s
Disease, exemplifies the difficulties that the child and the family face after a chronic illness diagnosis.
Keywords: chronic illness, Crohn s Disease. The Effects of Chronic Childhood Illness Being
diagnosed with a chronic illness as a child completely changes the anticipated trajectory of their life,
as well as their family s life. The child who is diagnosed has to learn how to cope with the symptoms
of the disease, as well as how to cope with the psychological effects that accompany the illness.

Banning the Autobiography of Malcolm X
I feel that this novel was banned due to its content of drug use, sex, and crime. Although the novel is
not explicit in these areas the subject matter is still present. I also feel that this novel was censored due
to its portrayal of racism of both the white man against the black man and the black man against the
white man. White people are portrayed as devils and there is a constant theme of separation and
discrimination. This book holds ideals that most people may find digressive in the sense that
integration is almost no longer an issue, given that people tend to not question a black person s right to
be somewhere just as much as a white mans . Therefore when this book promotes the evilness of a
race and how separation is the only way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet as I continued reading there was still something about the book that I didn t like and I couldn t

the man s age plus seven. He taught that women are physiologically ahead of men. Mr. Muhammad
taught that no marriage could succeed where the women did not look up with respect to the man. And
the man had to have something above and beyond the wife in order for her to be able to look to him
for psychological security (X 263 4). This quote explains that woman should meet a certain physical
requirement before the man can accept her in a marriage. The white people would only let a black man
into the same work place if they felt that they were better than him. This is paralleled in the statement
that a man should only take a woman they knew they were better than. Upon realizing my qualm with
this book I searched it find further evidence. It seems that some women love to be exploited. When
they are not exploited, they exploit the man.[...]Always every now and then, I had given her a hard
time, just to keep her in line. Every once in a while a women seems to need, in fact wants this, too.
But now, I would feel evil and slap her around worse than ever[...] (X 156). I m sure white people beat
and exploited black people just to keep them in line. The hypocrisy this book holds is so obvious it s

Examine How Social, Historical and Spatial Constructions...
Examine how social, historical and spatial constructions of childhood and or youth inform the design,
practices and values of a selected institution of childhood or young people.
Childhood is not a biological state, unlike infancy (Postman) it is a construction placed upon a group
of humans by society (James and Prout). Differing societies have different views of what a child is and
should be. The ideas surrounding children and childhood not only differ within different societies
there are also historical differences in the constructs of children (Postman) as if we look throughout

Not only do adults place historical and societal constructs onto children there is also the process of
projecting spatial constructions onto them aswell. Soja (date) refers to how we place spatiality

historically and socially as this gives the best informative knowledge of the group (Soja). As
mentioned previously this has been done since the twentieth century when Aries looked at when
childhood, as a concept had emerged (Aries 1962). However in recent years it has been suggested that
using this dialectic in order to understand a community is not enough (Soja) and that there has to be a
third notion (Soja).
Soja suggests that although historical and social imaginations of a community give a good insight to
what a society is this dialectic is not enough when you want to have a full understanding of how a
community behave (Soja). He suggests that the spaces in which people occupy (spatiality) should be
adopted with the same importance and a trialectic approach should be adopted (Soja).
Studying one aspect of the trialectic is no more insightful than another and all should be treated as
equal when trying to gain knowledge (Soja). It is only when the three

Examining The Place Of The Russian Minority
Examining the Place of the Russian Minority in Latvia: Aliens, non citizens or stateless persons?
Introduction
The region of Latvia has a long history of occupation by foreign powers and so its ethnicity is quite
varied. The Latvian Republic is one of the Baltic States located on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Along
with its neighbours Lithuania and Estonia, Latvia gained independence from the Soviet Union in
1991. It is when Latvia gained its status as an independent state that the most crucial period for the
Russian speaking residents began, as at that time the country s main issue was the status of its 1.1
million Russian speaking residents. Under Latvia s 2000 census (Heleniak, 2006), 30 per cent of the
country s 2.4 million population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The year independence was restored was defining for many thousands of Russians permanently living
in Latvia. On 3rd March 1991 a nonbinding advisory referendum took place with the result that 73%
of all Latvian residents supported the notion for independent Latvia (Troitsky, 2011). The Popular
Front of Latvia, the national movement which was promoting the idea of segregation, advocated that
all permanent residents will be entitled to and qualified for Latvian citizenship (Melvin, 1995, p. 34).
All those who want to be citizens of Latvia can be (Lieven, 1997, p. 304) stated Anatolijs Gorbunovs,
Chairman of the Latvian Supreme Council. However, the universal citizenship for all permanent
residents was not adopted. Latvia restored the rights and status only for those persons who were
identified as citizens under the 1919 Law together with their descendants (Aleinikoff Klusmeyer,
2001, p. 31). Thereby, for the majority of ethnic non Latvians citizenship was not granted, even when
the biggest portion of them were born in Latvia. This was seen as an attempt to suppress national
extinction (Mole, 2012, p. 89 90) caused by, according to the radicals in Latvia, the Russian people.
Those people became non citizens not holding citizenship to any other country and without the right to
vote. In Latvia as well as in Estonia the Russian population is seen as a reminder of their unhappy past
(Best, 2013, p. 34), thus the Russian people are not welcomed

The Consequences Of Government Restrictions On Free Trade
Adam Smith was a moral philosopher most famous for pioneering classical economics in his seminal
work, The Wealth of Nations. Smith s central argument was that the free market, guided by the
invisible hand, is the best system to maximize prosperity and create most efficient distribution of
goods and services by allowing for individuals to pursue their self interests. Smith s economic
philosophy was especially groundbreaking for his time, as he lived in an era when Europe was
dominated by mercantilism, an economic system guided in large part by heavy government
intervention in order to maximize their nations balance of trade. This essay thus will analyze Smith s

However, this irrational belief, highly popular in Europe at the time of Smith s writing, gave way to a
series of harmful practices due to the general impulse to accumulate gold and silver at all costs. First,
he notes that most European nations had either completely prohibited or strictly taxed the exportation
of precious metals to foreign countries (Smith IV 1.5). This, of course, was one of the easiest ways of
protecting their domestic supply of precious metals, simply by banning them from leaving the country.
However, the effect of this was negative, particularly on the miners and merchants of these metals,
who could frequently buy more advantageously with gold and silver than with any other commodity
the foreign goods which they wanted, either to import into their own, or to carry to some other foreign
country (Smith IV 1.5). While prohibiting one specific medium of exchange (such as gold) from being
used to make foreign transactions does not make trade impossible, it simply makes it much more
difficult and costly, as they must rely more on bartering. Furthermore, Smith notes that these
restrictions often failed, as gold and silver can be smuggled out of the country, albeit at a much higher
cost to the economy as a whole.
Additionally, Smith notes another harmful consequence of European mercantilism, the high propensity
of protective tariffs. The rationale behind this is to give domestic industries a competitive edge

Changes In My Neighbor Totoro
In the film My Neighbor Totoro, Satsuki and her family are going through a lot of changes to their
lives. One of these changes is that they moved to a new neighborhood be closer to their mother (who
is in the hospital). Everyone in the family deals with this change differently. Satsuki s dad tries to
adjust to being the only parent in the house by spending more time at home with Mei, Satsuki s sister.
Mei deals with the changes by trying to spend all her time with Satsuki and playing with creatures like

An Expanding World Population And A Degrading Earth

people, but only a century ago there were only about 1.6 billion people living on it. It is estimated that
the world population will soar to approximately 9 or 10 billion within the next forty years (Lambert
6). Along with the increasing global population, climate change and water scarcity are also burdening
the survival of our planet (Lambert 5). The FAO has warned that agriculture must produce 70% more

without food production, the current world population could not survive (Munesue 9). How is
humanity supposed to feed its future self of 10 billion people without destroying itself through overuse
of its Earth?
Is Food Security a Human Right? There are more hunger related deaths each year throughout the
world than AIDS malaria, and TB combined (Lambert 4). 25,000 people die everyday due to hunger
related deaths (Lambert 4). The International Conference on Nutrition in 1992 and the World Food
Summit in 1996 emphasized the importance of access to safe and nutritious food being recognized as

food insecurity is directly related to system of governance (Lambert 7). Democratic societies have
much lower rates of food insecurity than those countries with more authoritarian governments

From 0°C to 30°C there is a gradual increase of absorbency which shows that as the temperature
increases it is denaturing the cell wall and cell membrane and allowing the beetroot pigment to leek

As soon as the sample of beetroot is placed into the distilled water diffusion occurs naturally, which is

from the re test results at the same temperature I got 0.41 arbitrary units. This is a difference of 0.34

The anomaly which I have identified at 40°C is 0.41 arbitrary units this could be due to the size of the

which would suggested why the result is lower than expected. Another suggestion for why the result is

12. What is a CAFR? What are its main components?
A CAFR is a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The main components of a CAFR are the
introductory section, financial section, and Statistical section. A budget outlines where funds are going
to come from and how those funds will be used. It will specify what funds will be used to pay for
specific expenditures. A CAFR includes, in the introductory section, an overview of how the
government is divided, a letter from the chief executive, and a summary of the financial section. The
financial section contains financial reports for each fund. It also contains an overview of financial
performance for the year, and the financial position of the entity at the end of the year. The statistical
section contains current and historical data for the entity. This data could be demographical data on the
area, tax rates, and any debt still remaining unpaid. A budget contains information for the upcoming
year and a CAFR contains information for the past year.

Bartleby The Scrivener Identity Analysis
The text was extracted from the last part of Bartleby the Scrivener, A Story of Wall Street, written by
Herman Neville. The narrator is Bartleby´s boss, who is a flat character and his name is hidden from
the reader´s view, and almost all the action of the story happens around Bartleby and this hidden
narrator, who is not represented physically. This unknown person without face could be the first
reference to the capitalist system, as a reference to an unknown superior entity that make commands.
However, the narrator is only an ant in the difficult way to the richness in the capitalism.
There is another reference to unknown entity, the Dead Letter Office of Washington, a huge entity
from where Bartleby was rejected for unknown reason. This entity is where the last undelivered
communications to the dead are burned without ever having been read. How could be a person
working there without lose his mind? Bartleby represents this sector of the society, those who are
living is a tiring and arduous process, full of numbing compromises and submission to meaningless
tasks. The mortality is unavoidable, for Bartleby to be rejected is like a poison that consumes him until
his death. He does not eat, work or even socialize with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some critics who look at Bartleby the Scrivener as a comment on Melville s life believe the dead
letters may represent his unpopular novels, such as Moby Dick. These novels, like the letters, may be
errands of life, offering the reader great insight into their life, but the novels, like the letters, have no
one to read them. The letters could also make a good metaphor for the drudgery of the emerging
middle class. Sorting letters day in and day out could eventually be difficult for anyone to endure for a
long time, and such repetitive tasks are, even today, a common source of depression for some
employees. By making them dead letters, Melville makes the depressing nature of such a task more

Media s Role in the Globalization Process
Essay: The role of media in globalization process
If we talk about the role of media in globalization process we should firstly say that what the media is.
The media is media technologies that are intended to reach a large audience by mass communication.
Today the media play a key role in enhancing globalization. And the media also play important role in
facilitating culture exchange flows of information between countries. The media spreads through
international news broadcasts, new technologies, television programming, film and music. There are a
lot of broadcasts of media. Foe example: We can say about internet, TV, radio, newspapers, books,
billboards and etc. The media connects the world to a network of information easily accessible for all
of us. In this discussion arises a question: Which role has media in globalization process? I think the
role of media in globalization process is very important. And my point of view is that the media is a
part of the globalization process, it is like pen of the globalization process, because media shares
everything that the globalization process dictates. The important role in globalization process has
Internet, which connects all the countries around the world. Internet is called world wide web . So if
we say about the globalization process we should remind that the developed countries globalize
enough. However, there are some countries which do not globalize enough. For example, states of 3rd
world, hungry states and others.

Praying For Sheetrock Book Report
There were many things you could have learned from reading the book Praying for Sheetrock that
would be very useful to your lives. Segregation was one of those things because in the book the white
had their own community in the book and African Americans had their own communities in the wood
they both were separated but not equal because the white were in charge of both communities.
Corruption was happening all through this book from the sheriff Poppell tipping the truck on the
highway so the poor people could get shoes to it bring down the hero Thurnell Alston. The violent acts
in this book, like Sheriff Hutchinson shoots Flinch in the mouth and leaving him for dead in jail cell.
Many things that happened in this book happened in real life that we could all learn from, like making
sure we re integrated and were equal, were not corrupt, and not use violence as a way to discipline
someone.

One important thing I learned was about segregation and how it could deeply hurt a town and that if
we don t integrated that we will never be equal. I also learned how bad corruption could affect a town
like McIntosh County in a good and bad way. Corruption could be used in a good way, for example,
when the trucks were on the road and sheriff Poppel let the poor people take what s on the truck
because they couldn t afford to buy them. Corruption could also be used in a bad way, like when they
were ticking the northerners to take their money or how it took down the hero. The violent act of an
unarmed black man being shot in the mouth and dragged to jail with no medical attention was also a
concept still happening to this day. We should all take a lesson from this book and making sure we re
integrated and were equal, were not corrupt, and not use violence as a way of disciplining

An Analysis Of Jimmy Cross, Characters InThe Things They...
The short story, The Things They Carried written by Tim O Brien, follows a Lieutenant named Jimmy
Cross and his men. In the literary work, Tim O Brien informs the reader not only of the physical
objects the men carry but also the intangibles. This includes guilt and fear, while others are specific
physical objects, including matches, morphine, M 16 rifles. An American solider by the name of Ted
Lavender is killed by a Vietnamese sniper, and his commanding officer, Jimmy Cross, feels personally
responsible for the death of his grunt. He feels convicted because he was distracted by a memory of
home and an unfulfilled romance. Tim O Brien develops the character of Lieutenant Jimmy Cross in
his literary work through his actions, his thoughts, and his words in order to change his perspective to
better serve his men.
Throughout the short story, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross s actions change from being a lenient officer
overlooking drug usage and waste of ammunition, to an officer with high expectations and strict
demands from his soldiers. This is done when he puts his attention towards a woman at home by the
name of Martha. For example, Lieutenant Cross was in a dream like state, when it came to Martha and
he hoped to do all these things with her. He had hoped to kiss her, caress her body, and make love to
her. At that point a soldier named Ted Lavender returned from the bathroom and was shot in the head
by a Vietnamese sniper killing him. Jimmy Cross blames himself for the death of

The Sport Of Wrestling During The 16th And 16th Century
Do you know what sport was established in the 15th and 16th century? Many people may not realize
that the great sport of wrestling was established so long ago. However, wrestling is much different
now than it was when it first came about. Since the sport of wrestling began, major changes and
advancements have come about which have changed the sport tremendously and made it what it is
today. Wrestling is one of the oldest sports, and it has a lot of historical background. Wrestling was
established in the 15th and 16th century, but it was not a competitive sport at the time. There have
been cave drawings of wrestling found from 3000 B.C., which shows that either the sport or at least
ideas about the sport have been around for a long time (Olympic). It was during the pioneer days that
wrestling s popularity began to grow. In Canada, there was a wrestling champion from each of the
small villages and settlements. After the champions were crowned, they would all compete against
each other and whoever won was the best of the best (Wrestling). A wide variety of people were
involved in wrestling, even some presidents, including Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
Washington was good enough to win a tournament, and at one point in history, there was a style of
wrestling named after him. That style, however, is no longer used in today s sport. Wrestling is a very
popular sport not only in the U.S. but all over the world. In France, wrestling was very popular.
Wrestling was

Cahoki Article Analysis
Speaking of skeletal remains, there is evidence of body modification at Cahokia. Gregory Perino
discovered filed teeth at Cahokia. These findings showed observers that this practice was only done
for a short period of time in the transition from Late Woodland Period to the Mississippian period.
According to Perino, the siginificance of filing teeth cannot be explicitly determined but majority of
them were thought to be ambassadors; but the fact that these filings were also found on young
persons, throw off the conclusively of saying this was due to differentiating in social status (Perino
1967:541). Public works, as defined in class, would be some kind of monumental or public
architecture that would take the organization of the labor of many ... Show more content on

Flannery and Marcus discuss in our textbook about the social renown that comes from agriculture. It is
also the case that for most parts of the world, Rousseau was right: not until people had begun to raise
crops or animals do we see signs of emerging inequality (Flannery and Marcus 2012:91). This is
especially true for Cahokia. In Cahokia, food storage changed in the Mississippian period. Woods, in
his article, points out the fact that there is archeological evidence for food storage as being a
communal event at Cahokia and that Cahokian households typically lacked a storage place of their
own, which gave rise to the need for a large, community based facility (2004:149). This was not
always the case. There was evidence back in the Late Woodland period, prior to the Mississippian
Period that shows there were domestic storage features in households and little evidence for
communal storage. The rise of communal storage also gives rise to social power of the elites. ... the
institutionalization of social ranking, DeBoer contends that There is no mystery to the absences of
subterranean storage in such circumstances. It is expected (Woods 2004:154). This being said, the
change from subterranean food storage to aboveground food storage changed once Cahokia elites
were gaining more and more power and becoming redistributors. This is an exemplary indication of
social inequality. The chiefs and elites control the food storage and how much gets redistributed and
how much goes back in to replace what was used. The producers and consumers of the food do not get
much say in the matter because it is not their

On October 19, 1781, the British General, Lord Cornwallis is forced to retreat to a the Virginian
peninsula Yorktown. The French Navy surrounds the peninsula with ships, while the Americans
soldiers chase the British by foot. Cornwallis is forced to surrender and the Americans win the
Revolutionary War.
1781 A peace treaty is signed between Great Britain and the United States, and Britain surrenders the
Colonies to the Americans.
Causes of the American Revolution
The Boston Massacre was an encounter on March 5, 1770, that was five years before the American
Revolution between British troops and a group of citizens of Boston that were then in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony. British troops were quartered in the city to discourage demonstrations. As
a result of constant harassment by the citizens, a squad of British soldiers that had been struck by
snow and ice balls with rocks inside thrown during a demonstration, fired into the crowd, killing five
men. The eight soldiers and their commanding officer were tried for murder and were defended by
John Adams, later president of the United States, and Josiah Quincy. Two of the soldiers were declared
guilty of manslaughter, and the others, including the officer, were acquitted. The incident was
skillfully exploited by the American patriot Samuel Adams to create anti British sentiment in the
colonies. After the incident the patriots of Massachusetts Bay were more and more

Brazilian Family Structure
A unitary explanation or description cannot be given for the Brazilian family structure due to its
diversity racially, ethnically, and socio economically. In looking at the historical Brazilian family
structure, there are two models based on ethnic, cultural diversity. Neder (as cited in Torres Dessen,
2008) notes that the first type of Brazilian family is from the family of African slaves who are a
culturally diverse. Consequently, they do not have a single African family structure, but a variety of
family structures, such as matriarchy, patriarchy and polygamy (2008, p.196). The second Brazilian
family model is the traditional family. The people of Iberian origin formed this family model, and it is
characterized as a patriarchal system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Willems (1953) notes that upper and middle class Brazilian family structure is different that of the
lower class Brazilian who comprise the overwhelming majority of the Brazilian people. After
marriage, in the upper and middle class family structure, the husband takes the role of the dominant
authoritarian father who actively regulates the sexual behaviour of the woman. The woman must
abstain from any activities or relations that could jeopardize the sexual monopoly her husband has
over her. The women are often beaten or even killed when caught committing extra marital offences
and yet the wife is meant to be okay with having a promiscuous husband (1953, p.341). The wife is
not expected to have a close and intimate relationship with the husband, but rather to be devoted
mother and housekeeper. This lack of intimacy often results in friction and conflict. By contrast, lower
class Brazilian family do not actively chaperone the sexual behaviours of their women and girls. The
woman is in control of her sexuality, and violent retaliation for unfaithfulness is relatively non existent
in the lower class Brazilian family. Nonetheless, it is a patriarchal family structure as consent for
marriage still needs to be obtained from the father (1953,

(Walker, 2011) Throughout history there have been some infamous gangs that have gotten media attention and others that have gone under the radar. One of the more underground gang structures are prison gangs. The Nuestra Familia may not be in the news as much anymore compared to other gangs, but they are nothing to be taken lightly. Prison gangs have been around since the late 20th century and only seem to be getting stronger if nothing is going to be done to prevent them. Gangs in prison have members in and out of prison. (NF 2011) This divide proved to be an igniter of the gang war between the Mexican Mafia and Nuestra Familia. The newly formed Nuestra Familia engaged in prison war against the Mexican Mafia throughout the 70 s until the later 1970 s when a formal divide was acknowledged between the gangs. After the formal divide Nuestra Familia began making allies with other Californian Prison gangs like the Black Guerilla family to defeat a common enemy, The Mexican Mafia. On the other side the Mexican Mafia teamed up with the Aryan Brotherhood to combat the newly formed Nuestra Familia and Black Guerilla Family alliance. In order for the Nuestra Familia to gain power in the prisons it has to control the contraband coming in and out of prison. This is where the foot soldiers, the Norteños, came in handy. Norteños is a Spanish term for northerners. (Gangland, 2008) The Norteños operated under leadership from the Nuestra Familia members in prison. The Norteños used the trafficking of drugs like marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine to gain currency. They also had successful prostitution and identity theft rings to sustain their dominance in northern California. Into the Wild is a film that is based off a true story, which was written by Jon Krakauer. Into the Wild contains many symbols related to the topics of distance, isolation, and journeys. Likewise, The Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger, includes a series of symbols as well. The title, Into the Wild, represents Chris McCandless s journey of finding himself when he runs away from his home, so he can live in the wild. The title of The Catcher in the Rye is symbolic of what Holden wants to be when he is older. Holden wants to be the person who waits by the rye and catches all the kids that are about to jump off. When accessing mass media sources, their content often filled with positive takes of the subject because they are usually funded by the company. For instance, game developers would not want bad reviews of their content out on mass media sources like CNN because it reduces the profit. Also it appeals to most retailers, such as Gamestop, Wal Mart, or Target. On the other hand, alternative media gives a more closely look of the contents of the game. Throughout the film the main piece that stood out above just reading the book was the facial expressions that the character Woyzeck gives, but out of all of them one rises above the rest. The facial expression was that of just a person who seemed to not be fully aware what was going on in any scenario, as if something must be wrong in their head or at the very least, always preoccupied with worrisome thoughts that distracted them from reality. • 11. Persuasive Essay On Prison Reform Today, it seems almost incomprehensible that so many people with serious mental illnesses reside in prisons instead of receiving treatment. Over a century and a half ago, reform advocates like Dorothea Dix campaigned for prison reform, urging lawmakers to house the mentally ill in hospitals rather than in prisons. The efforts undertaken by Dix and other like minded reformers were successful: from around 1870 to 1970, most of the United States mentally ill population was housed in hospitals rather than in prisons. Considering reformers made great strides in improving this situation over a century and a half ago. Granted, mental hospitals in the late 19th and early 20th century were often badly run and critically flawed, but rather than pushing for reform of these hospitals, many politicians lobbied for them to close their doors, switching instead to a community based system for treating the mentally ill. Although deinstitutionalization was originally understood as a humane way to offer more suitable services to the mentally ill in community based settings, some politicians seized upon it as a way to save money by shutting down institutions without providing any meaningful treatment alternatives. This callousness has created a one way road to prison for massive numbers of impaired individuals and the inhumane warehousing of thousands of mentally ill people. Nevertheless, there are things that can be done to lower the rate mentally ill persons are being incarcerated. Such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though there are valid points for the legalization of the drug, there is a worry about how the drug will affect the users. Although opponents say that legalizing medical marijuana is a back door method of legalizing the drug for recreational use, the U.S. should legalize medical marijuana because it will reduce crime, increase revenue, provide more research, and will help treat numerous medical conditions. Many people think that if marijuana is legalized, there will be an onslaught of crime. (Delmore) Studies have shown that the legalization of marijuana has truly reduced the crime rate. Robert Morris, an associate professor of criminology at UT Dallas, said, After controlling for a host of known factors related to changes in crime rates we accounted for factors such as poverty, employment, education, even per capita beer sales, among other things we found no evidence of increases in any of these crimes for states after legalizing marijuana for medical use (Ferner). How Does Friesen Use Magic In The Tempest In opposition to Gibson, Ryan Friesen believes that Shakespeare was aware of magic in his culture, but that he used it more as a plot device rather than as a manifestation of his own beliefs in the supernatural. Friesen explains that while witchcraft and diabolic magic were popular among audiences, universal themes were more important. In relation to both Doctor Faustus and Macbeth, he says sin and a hunger for power are themes that are contradicted if the tragic protagonist s fate is blamed more on his occult prowess than on his decisions to deceive, exploit, and murder his cohorts, (122). As far as scholars can tell, all of the supernatural in this play was made up entirely by Shakespeare, disregarding the chance that he was inspired by a play that was never found (Gibson 139). In the eyes of Friesen, however, The Tempest was more concerned with the aesthetic and thematic use of magic rather than using it as a depiction of a particular supernatural being. Friesen says, in the use of magic as a thematic tool, a reflection of ways in which knowledge and power are gained and governance sought on a middle ground between theory and experience, (Friesen 190). As Prospero s magic is not particularly based off one of Shakespeare s magic toolbox materials, Gurr claims that The Tempest s highly spectacled use of staging operates as a metaphor for Shakespeare s own art (191). In fact, this play is the only one that actually uses stage spectacle and stage business as much as it does (191). This stage business included a quaint device for Ariel to use to make the banquet vanish, in which the banquet would have needed to be fastened to a reversible top table (192). Henslowe s list also included a bit about the exotic costumes the goddesses would be wearing (200). And Gurr explained that there was likely a way to create a wet look for the mariners after the shipwreck (184). In the article, As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama s Free Community College Idea written by Joanne Jacobs, the author states the different arguments between whether or not Obama s idea of making community college free is a good idea for both the institutions and for the students planning on attending. This can then lead to colleges not getting any funding because they won t be getting any money, tuition wise, from the students but rather the government. Although the idea of free community college is what everyone believes is the best option, I think it shouldn t be free because tuition for low income students is technically already free, four year universities cost much more, and lastly because this can then lead to competition between low income students and upper middle class students. • 23. Negotiation Theory Essay NEGOTIATION Negotiation theory Last updated 9 months ago The foundations of negotiation theory are decision analysis, behavioral decision making, game theory, and negotiation analysis. Another classification of theories distinguishes between Structural Analysis, Strategic Analysis, Process Analysis, Integrative Analysis and behavioral analysis of negotiations. Individuals should make separate, interactive decisions; and negotiation analysis considers how groups of reasonably bright individuals should and could make joint, collaborative decisions. These theories are interleaved and should be approached from the synthetic perspective. Common Assumptions Of Most Theories Negotiation is a specialized and formal version of conflict ... If one party cooperates or makes a concession and the other does not, the defecting party might relatively gain more. Trust may be built only in repetitive games through the emergence of reliable patterns of behaviour such as tit for tat. This table illustrates the options and possible outcomes of the Negotiator s Dilemma. Process Analysis Process analysis is the theory closest to haggling. Parties start from two points and converge through a series of concessions. As in strategic analysis, both sides have a veto (e.g. sell, not sell; pay, not pay). Process analysis also features structural assumptions, because one side may be weaker or stronger (e.g. more eager to sell, not willing to pay a certain price). Process Analysis focuses on the study of the dynamics of processes. E.g. both Zeuthen and Cross tried to find a formula in order to predict the behaviour of the other party in finding a rate of concession, in order to predict the likely outcome. The process of negotiation therefore is considered to unfold between fixed points: starting point of discord, end point of convergence. The so called security point, that is the result of optional withdrawal, is also taken into account. Integrative Analysis Integrative analysis divides the process into successive stages, rather than talking about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Time being such a heavily focused on subject in the novel shows how focused F. Scott Fitzgerald was on showing the positives and negatives of making time an important aspect of how life is perceived and lived. Fitzgerald s outlook on time is one of longing and regret, portrayed in Gatsby s persona, actions, and hopefulness. Gatsby is born a poor man with not much to show for himself in his early life, until he meets a rich young lady who flips his world upside down. Daisy shows Gatsby her love built on broken promises as she promises to marry him once he comes home from Oxford but ends up marrying Tom Buchanan before Gatsby can be home to stop the wedding. Effects Of Chronic Illness On The Children Chronic illness affects 15% of all children in the United States, however, the impact of this particular trauma is often overlooked (Ferro Boyle, 2013). Children with chronic illnesses endure frightening diagnoses, painful treatments, and uncertain futures. The stress that results from these new realities influences crucial development for the child, as well as further development for the entire family. The effects of ill children being physically and socially withdrawn from normal activities then result in lower self esteem and decreased self concept. In addition to the effects of chronic illness on the child afflicted, the role of the parent or sibling assumes new meaning while learning how to cope with caring for an ill child. It is crucial for the family of a chronically ill child to be well informed on the resources made available to them. A case study of a young boy, Tom, who was diagnosed with Crohn s Disease, exemplifies the difficulties that the child and the family face after a chronic illness diagnosis. White people are portrayed as devils and there is a constant theme of separation and discrimination. This book holds ideals that most people may find digressive in the sense that integration is almost no longer an issue, given that people tend to not question a black person s right to be somewhere just as much as a white mans . Mr. Muhammad taught that no marriage could succeed where the women did not look up with respect to the man. The year independence was restored was defining for many thousands of Russians permanently living in Latvia. On 3rd March 1991 a nonbinding advisory referendum took place with the result that 73% of all Latvian residents supported the notion for independent Latvia (Troitsky, 2011). The Popular Front of Latvia, the national movement which was promoting the idea of segregation, advocated that all permanent residents will be entitled to and qualified for Latvian citizenship (Melvin, 1995, p. 34). All those who want to be citizens of Latvia can be (Lieven, 1997, p. 304) stated Anatolijs Gorbunovs, Chairman of the Latvian Supreme Council. However, the universal citizenship for all permanent residents was not adopted. Latvia restored the rights and status only for those persons who were identified as citizens under the 1919 Law together with their descendants (Aleinikoff Klusmeyer, 2001, p. 31). Thereby, for the majority of ethnic non Latvians citizenship was not granted, even when the biggest portion of them were born in Latvia. This was seen as an attempt to suppress national extinction (Mole, 2012, p. 89 90) caused by, according to the radicals in Latvia, the Russian people. Smith s central argument was that the free market, guided by the invisible hand, is the best system to maximize prosperity and create most efficient distribution of goods and services by allowing for individuals to pursue their self interests. Smith s economic philosophy was especially groundbreaking for his time, as he lived in an era when Europe was dominated by mercantilism, an economic system guided in large part by heavy government intervention in order to maximize their nations balance of trade. However, this irrational belief, highly popular in Europe at the time of Smith s writing, gave way to a series of harmful practices due to the general impulse to accumulate gold and silver at all costs. First, he notes that most European nations had either completely prohibited or strictly taxed the exportation of precious metals to foreign countries (Smith IV 1.5). This, of course, was one of the easiest ways of protecting their domestic supply of precious metals, simply by banning them from leaving the country. However, the effect of this was negative, particularly on the miners and merchants of these metals, who could frequently buy more advantageously with gold and silver than with any other commodity the foreign goods which they wanted, either to import into their own, or to carry to some other foreign country (Smith IV 1.5). While prohibiting one specific medium of exchange (such as gold) from being used to make foreign transactions does not make trade impossible, it simply makes it much more difficult and costly, as they must rely more on bartering. Furthermore, Smith notes that these restrictions often failed, as gold and silver can be smuggled out of the country, albeit at a much higher cost to the economy as a whole. Additionally, Smith notes another harmful consequence of European mercantilism, the high propensity of protective tariffs. The rationale behind this is to give domestic industries a competitive edge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corruption could also be used in a bad way, like when they were ticking the northerners to take their money or how it took down the hero. The violent act of an unarmed black man being shot in the mouth and dragged to jail with no medical attention was also a concept still happening to this day. • 46. The Sport Of Wrestling During The 16th And 16th Century Do you know what sport was established in the 15th and 16th century? Many people may not realize that the great sport of wrestling was established so long ago. However, wrestling is much different now than it was when it first came about. Since the sport of wrestling began, major changes and advancements have come about which have changed the sport tremendously and made it what it is today. Wrestling is one of the oldest sports, and it has a lot of historical background. Wrestling was established in the 15th and 16th century, but it was not a competitive sport at the time. There have been cave drawings of wrestling found from 3000 B.C., which shows that either the sport or at least ideas about the sport have been around for a long time (Olympic). It was during the pioneer days that wrestling s popularity began to grow. In Canada, there was a wrestling champion from each of the small villages and settlements. After the champions were crowned, they would all compete against each other and whoever won was the best of the best (Wrestling). A wide variety of people were involved in wrestling, even some presidents, including Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Washington was good enough to win a tournament, and at one point in history, there was a style of wrestling named after him. That style, however, is no longer used in today s sport. Wrestling is a very popular sport not only in the U.S. but all over the world. In France, wrestling was very popular. Wrestling was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Cahoki Article Analysis Speaking of skeletal remains, there is evidence of body modification at Cahokia. Gregory Perino discovered filed teeth at Cahokia. These findings showed observers that this practice was only done for a short period of time in the transition from Late Woodland Period to the Mississippian period. According to Perino, the siginificance of filing teeth cannot be explicitly determined but majority of them were thought to be ambassadors; but the fact that these filings were also found on young persons, throw off the conclusively of saying this was due to differentiating in social status (Perino 1967:541). Flannery and Marcus discuss in our textbook about the social renown that comes from agriculture. It is also the case that for most parts of the world, Rousseau was right: not until people had begun to raise crops or animals do we see signs of emerging inequality (Flannery and Marcus 2012:91). This is especially true for Cahokia. In Cahokia, food storage changed in the Mississippian period. Woods, in his article, points out the fact that there is archeological evidence for food storage as being a communal event at Cahokia and that Cahokian households typically lacked a storage place of their own, which gave rise to the need for a large, community based facility (2004:149). This was not always the case. There was evidence back in the Late Woodland period, prior to the Mississippian Period that shows there were domestic storage features in households and little evidence for communal storage. The rise of communal storage also gives rise to social power of the elites. ... the institutionalization of social ranking, DeBoer contends that There is no mystery to the absences of subterranean storage in such circumstances. It is expected (Woods 2004:154). This being said, the change from subterranean food storage to aboveground food storage changed once Cahokia elites were gaining more and more power and becoming redistributors. This is an exemplary indication of social inequality. The chiefs and elites control the food storage and how much gets redistributed and how much goes back in to replace what was used. The producers and consumers of the food do not get much say in the matter because it is not their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Brazilian Family Structure A unitary explanation or description cannot be given for the Brazilian family structure due to its diversity racially, ethnically, and socio economically. In looking at the historical Brazilian family structure, there are two models based on ethnic, cultural diversity. Neder (as cited in Torres Dessen, 2008) notes that the first type of Brazilian family is from the family of African slaves who are a culturally diverse. Consequently, they do not have a single African family structure, but a variety of family structures, such as matriarchy, patriarchy and polygamy (2008, p.196). The second Brazilian family model is the traditional family. The people of Iberian origin formed this family model, and it is characterized as a patriarchal system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Willems (1953) notes that upper and middle class Brazilian family structure is different that of the lower class Brazilian who comprise the overwhelming majority of the Brazilian people. After marriage, in the upper and middle class family structure, the husband takes the role of the dominant authoritarian father who actively regulates the sexual behaviour of the woman. The woman must abstain from any activities or relations that could jeopardize the sexual monopoly her husband has over her. The women are often beaten or even killed when caught committing extra marital offences and yet the wife is meant to be okay with having a promiscuous husband (1953, p.341). The wife is not expected to have a close and intimate relationship with the husband, but rather to be devoted mother and housekeeper. This lack of intimacy often results in friction and conflict. By contrast, lower class Brazilian family do not actively chaperone the sexual behaviours of their women and girls. The woman is in control of her sexuality, and violent retaliation for unfaithfulness is relatively non existent in the lower class Brazilian family. Nonetheless, it is a patriarchal family structure as consent for marriage still needs to be obtained from the father (1953, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
