Hippolytus writes:
Now then, incline thine ear to me and hear my words, and give heed, thou Jew. Many a time does
thou boast thyself, in that thou didst condemn Jesus of Nazareth to death, and didst give him
vinegar and gall to drink; and thou dost vaunt thyself because of this. Come, therefore, and let us
consider together whether perchance thou dost boast unrighteously, O, Israel, and whether thou
small portion of vinegar and gall has not brought down this fearful threatening upon thee and
whether this is not the cause of thy present condition involved in these myriad of troubles.5
As the Church came into power in the fourth century, it turned on the synagogues with even greater
intensity. Jewish civil and religious status was deteriorating, thanks to the influence the bishops
had in the political arena. Laws were passed making it a capital offense for any Jew to make a
convert, they were excluded from various professions, denied all civil honors, and their autonomy
of worship was being threatened. In every way, they were being discriminated against. Christians
felt that this growing evidence now supported their belief in divine punishment.
Hilary of Potieres spoke of the Jews as a people who had always persisted in iniquity and out of its
abundance of evil glorified in wickedness. 6 Ambrose defended a fellow bishop

How Does Body Art Affect Our Society
Tattoos. Piercings. Colored hair. From the Bronze Age to Egypt, Japan, China, and other countries
the appearance of body art has spread and has found its way throughout the world; brought to
society today from culture, symbolism, and religion in ancient times. Many difficulties reside
around the looks they give off in a place of professionalism. Though in modern day society body art
is becoming more popular and uprising controversy of their presence in a workplace is
becoming more of a problem. Body art is a beautiful way to express yourself and if people with it
cannot show it off without consequences towards their careers is disappointing. A new law
needs to be formed to protect those who have them from getting discriminated against or fired.
For the younger generations are becoming more fond and interested in body art, while the older
generations disapprove this uproar.Within the younger generation known as the Millennials,
early 1980s to early 2000s, are developing our society into one where body art is becoming
accepted. The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology published data showing that in
2006 approximately 24 percent of Americans had a form of body art when back in 1976 it was
only around one percent (Cooke). Also from 2007 to 2012 the number of people that had two or
more tattoos increased, which would make it 13 percent more popular (Tattoos in the Workplace
Statistics). So with body art on the rise and it becoming the new grind, why is it not

Gun Control in the United States
Gun Control in the United States has gone out of control. The United States should enforce laws to
not allow any guns in a house hold in order to reduce violence and crime in the country. Reducing
the rate of crime in the United States, controlling big weapons, taxing ammunition, and gun
collection can help make this happen. Gun Control can make this country a safer environment to
live in. Gun Control has obviously gone out of control in the recent years. Look around, they are
everywhere. Reducing the rate of Crime in the United States would make the country a better place
to live. In the past and in the present, Mass Shootings have impacted America. Virginia Tech

We may not see this group but the mafia was big back in the day. The mafia was the leading
group in criminal activity in the 1960 s(Darity). The mafia was a group that would make tons
and tons of money off of drugs, robberies and murders. They would sometimes pay off cops to
look the other way and if they didn t get what they wanted they would use their firearms. With
stronger and more enforced laws, many lives could have been saved. The mafia isn t the only
group with guns being used. Gangs are also using guns on an everyday basis. The gangs on the
streets are just like the mafia. They sell drugs, rob people/stores and murder. Not all gangs are on
the streets, some are underground. The point is without guns on the streets, neighborhoods and
cities will be a safer place to live. A big controversy in congress is passing a law to Tax
ammunition/bullets to a gun. This will not just help the country from crime, it will help the
economy. Today almost 65% of people own a gun and 50% have live ammunition to that gun
(Domenech). Taxing every bullet to every gun in the entire country will generate millions of
dollars. Another idea is to have gun collection days and ammunition collection days. Obviously the
more guns you bring in, the more money the government will give to you. If none of these ideas
work, congress can at least limit the ammunition to a gun in a house. The thought of having a gun

Analysis Of The Book The Coming Of The Moon And James...
object, every individual has felt love and attraction towards something because it gave them a sense
of acceptance and purpose. As an individual achieves acceptance, they define a purpose. As a
common theme of life; Nino Ricci s story, Going to the Moon and James Joyce s story, Araby
similarly established the theme, allure of the other by demonstrating mutual aspects. For instance,
the two stories both illustrated young isolated male narrators who were plot driven by older
influencing female characters that accepted them. Together, they re relationships helped to explore
and define the concepts of allure, acceptance, reality and imagination, which aided to break the
isolated nature of the protagonists. Ricci and Joyce demonstrated that their particular
protagonist ultimately shared the same desire, dilemma, and discovery as the other character;
the desire for acceptance and purpose , the dilemma to achieve acceptance , and the discovery
that acceptance is not always what it seems . Initially, the narrators shared the same desire for
affection because of a powerful attraction or Allure towards a prominent female character. In
Ricci s Story, the narrator displayed an allure for Miss Johnson (his teacher), while in Joyce s
story, the narrator developed an allure towards Mangan s sister (a peer s sibling). Hence, the
theme, the allure of the other , allowed individuals of the opposite sex to serve as a catalyst for plot
development and succession. Similarly, the two

Glory, By Edward Zwick
Glory directed by Edward Zwick is about the Civil War journey of the first colored regiment under
the control of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw played by Matthew Broderick. The movie takes place in
1862, after the Battle Of Antietam. Colonel Shaw is offered a position as commander of the first
African American regiment including Private Trip (Denzel Washington) and Sergeant Major John
Rawlins (Morgan Freeman) by the governor of Massachusetts. When Col. Shaw decides to
command the regiment, he was unsure of what the 54th Massachusetts Regiment could accomplish.
Throughout the course of the movie, he was not confident in the newly formed regiment. But as the
movie progresses, he begins to change his perspective on the regiment. Early in the movie,... Show

Shaw completely changes his attitude towards the 54th Massachusetts regiment. He does not
loosen the reigns, instead he takes Sgt. Mulcahy s suggestion and trains them harshly. The next
training session was mainly focused on aiming and shooting guns quickly. Robert decides to
watch them practice shooting guns, but when they take their time to load their guns, he gets
upset. He chooses Private Jupiter Sharts to specifically watch. Pvt. Sharts states that he hunted
squirrels so his aim is up to par. Col. Shaw states that, a good man can fire three aimed shots in a
minute so when, Pvt. Sharts cannot deliver quick load and unload of his rifle within the minute,
Col. Shaw yells at him and shoots a gun in the air to show how fast he should be able to shoot.
After getting flustered by the pressure of Col. Shaw, Pvt. Sharts drops the gun. Col. Shaw was
also harsh on Private Trip. When Pvt. Trip disappears and is re discovered, he is sentenced to a
flogging punishment. Major Cabot Forbes, a close friend of Col. Shaw, tries to convince Robert
to change his mind about the flogging, because it would make them no better than their past
slaveowners. Colonel Robert Shaw ignores Maj. Forbes comment because he realizes he needs to
be tough on the regiment in order to prepare them for war. He tells Sergeant Mulcahy to proceed
with the flogging. But after the punishment, he soon realizes that Private Trip disappeared to go

How Did Babylonians Use Bladed Weapons
Gabby brooks and thomas willett April 14, 2017 4th hour American History Weaponry The
ancient babylonians used sharpened weapons such as sickle swords, socketed axes, spears, and
the egyptian derived bladed mace, as well as clubs and staffs, and they also used projectiles
flung from war slings. The babylonians were a bronze age people, so the bladed weapons they
used were made of a softer metal than later civilizations iron and steel. This made them less
effective in battle than iron and iron alloy based weapons, as iron is harder and harder blades that
can take a shaper point. At the time, though bronze was top of the line technology. The
babylonians were so good at the empire building that later armies modeled their weapons after the
babylonians designs. They did not possess bows; neither the long bow nor the crossbow have been
found at excavations. Enemies such as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They wore breastplates made out of bronze because the top of the torso is a large target and
contains vital organs that need extra protection. Helmets were made out of copper to reduce
weight on the head and increase comfort during battle. Fighting on foot requires a combination
of heavy protection and mobility, and this was an area where the Babylonians decided to trade
off defense for agility. The Babylonians lived in the city of Babylonia, based in central southern
Mesopotamia. This city was located on the river Euphrates in what is now known as southern
Iraq. The city first came into prominence as the royal city of king Hammurabi around the year of
1790 BC. The Babylonians built an empire that gave the world the hanging gardens of babylon,
one of the seven wonders of the world. They also constructed the tower of babel, this tower was
made out of baked brick which was a figurative. That place created to be a place for worshiping.

Adolescent, Antisocial Behavior And Behavior
On the other hand, Moffitt (1993) also identifies adolescent limited as part of the adolescent
offenders. Adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is defined by antisocial behaviour that starts
occurring during adolescence and discontinues at the beginning of adulthood. These individuals
have no history of antisocial behaviour in their childhoodand are unlikely to continue this behaviour
in the future. They are also not consistent with their antisocial behaviour in different situations.
While life course persistent individuals act antisocially in all situations, changing their type of
antisocial behaviour to fit the circumstances, adolescent limited individuals might only express
antisocial behaviours in certain situations, but not in others.
Causes of Adolescent Limited Antisocial Behaviour
The cause of adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is theorised for one to be social mimicry.
Adolescents who do not express life course persistent antisocial behaviour, might still know or
observe individual who do. Adolescents might observe an advantage in this behaviour and start to
mimic it. This advantage might be a mature status that is accompanied by power and privilege. It
can be argued that industrialisation and the resulting consequence of children achieving the social
adult statutes later and later in life, leads to a maturity gap, where the biological age and social age
do not match up. This may lead to a increased desire for maturity statues within adolescents.

was a landing spot for more than 40,000 American troops who waded through the surf to face a
barrier of German soldiers and artillery. Unfortunately, an estimated 5,000 Allied soldiers died
within the first few hours of landing. Celeste: But, by the end of the day, the Allies had
successfully stormed Normandy s beaches. This is one of the reasons why these D Day
beaches are so significant to this country it was the beginning of the liberation of France!
Rachel: In the following weeks, the Allies battled their way across the Normandy countryside
against the German resistance as well as across the dense landscape of marshes and hedgerows.
By the end of August, 1944 they reached the Seine River, Paris was liberated and the Germans
were removed from north western France which effectively concluded the Battle of Normandy.
Celeste: Not only did the D Day landing beaches signify the battle which allowed the liberation of
France from the Nazis, it was seen as the beginning of the end of World War

Chromium Plating Research Paper
Due to the industrial restrictions in place across some the main areas of the world under health and
safety regulations, finding an alternative plating process to the current hexavalent chromium
process has become a real necessity. Trivalent chromium has proved to be a suitable replacement
due to being less toxic, both health wise and environmentally, whilst also demonstrating almost
identical metalfinishes to those of the hexavalent chromiumdeposits. However, the trivalent
chromium chemical process is not without its difficulties, such as the inertness of the Cr3+ ions to
be reduced to their metallic state, or the initial inferiority of the metal deposits physical properties in
comparison to the deposits attained from conventional techniques. In order to overcome these
issues multiple approaches have been investigated.
It has been found that the use of complexing agents in the trivalent chromium electrolyte solution
work to generate stable complexes with Cr3+ through ligand exchange which are then easily
reducible to metallic chromium. Not only does this now allow chromium deposition to take place,
but it also improves the current efficiency of the electrodeposit. The process of co depositing
chromium as an alloy with other metals has shown to enhance the physical and chemical properties
of the metal as opposed to individual electrodepositions; an ability that is unattainable for
hexavalent chromium, giving an immediate advantage. In addition, the outcome of

Beyond Lies The Wub Essay
Greatness is a road leading toward the unknown (Charles de Gaulle). This melodramatic, cheesy
quote perfectly describes author, Philip K. Dick s writing in his short story Beyond Lies the Wub.
Philip K. Dick was a unique author that explored an unknown part of science fiction and ultimately
created many award winning and interactive short stories. Beyond Lies the Wub was written in
1952, the same era of the Cold War. Similar to men who were setting off to fight stalked up on
food, clothes and machinery, Franco, a pragmatic captain in this short storyloaded up on live
animals before their departure to Mars. One of the animals is an enormous pig creature known by
the natives as a Wub. The crew later finds out this creature is so intelligent... Show more content on

Since Beyond Lies The Wub has multiple unclear meanings and messages, readers may be left
unpleased. However, Dick may have intentionally created this confusion so that each reader has a
unique experience in how they discern the text. One interpretation of Beyond Lies the Wub is that
Franco may have been punished for his wrongdoings. Even though the crew was not fully
supportive and the Wub warned him about killing him, he still slaughtered the innocent animal.
Another interpretation of the text could be hinting that Philip K. Dick was vegetarian and thinks
those who consume meat should be punished. However, Dick s multiple comments throughout the
story about the concern of the crews starvation suggest Franco s intention was to feed the
deprived crew. Dick s common tactic of ending his mysterious, vague short stories is by
implementing an adjacent character who is just as confused as the audience. The story ends very
abruptly leaving Peterson torn between two sides: whether his captain was just trying to feed his
crew or was the innocent animal who deemed himself worthy of living through his knowledge
living through the Captain as a punishment. By Dick ending the story before the audience receives
any more information about how Franco is now the wub and how Peterson reacts, allows the
audience to interpret it for themselves. Ultimately we must ask ourselves, is all the confusion and
lack of clarity making Dick s stories truly effective? I think

The Nature Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
I rate Fahrenheit 451 a one star , because I found the writer s style uninteresting. The author, Ray
Bradbury, failed to pull me in, and the novel didn t open my eyes to the viewpoints portrayed in
the novel. Although Fahrenheit 451 carries themes of rebirth of society, government censorship,
and the nature of humanity, these themes were overwhelmed by one theme that bled into every
action, dialogue piece, and narrative section: technology corrupts. This theme could have made
for a wonderful book, as there are intriguing and thoughtful pieces on the nature of technology,
like the TV series Black Mirror. Black Mirror offers both positives and negatives to each piece of
technology it covers in each episode it poses questions like how... Show more content on

Knowing this, many of the characters make more sense: Mildred and her friends can t even
comprehend the thought of reading, and every character who does read has amazing wisdom,
no matter their age. Which brings me to the second point of why I dislike the book: it preaches
at every available moment. Whether it s the teenage girl giving a monologue or the scared old
man, all the characters sound the same when they re preaching Bradbury s anti technology
agenda. Subsequently, they don t exist as round characters, they only exist to preach Bradbury s
views, which ranges from the dislikes of the arts or listening to radio through earbuds. He
presumes that someone who watches TV or listens to radio cannot enjoy the world around them,
however, in my view, these medias have only broadened our view of the world. Many of us will
not be able to go to Africa, but through TV documentaries, we can. The jazz of New Orleans
would be out of reach for most, were it not for radio and other electronic transmissions. Perhaps
Bradbury might have had a real fear of the changes a world view would initiate when the book
was written, but now it carries the gravitas of someone wearing a tin foil hat. I couldn t enjoy the
book because I found the characters flat and uninteresting. Many of them have no character
development except for Montag, but his development doesn t come from a great self

Sonnet X By John Donne Analysis
Socrates once said: [...]For anything that men can tell, death may be the greatest good that can
happen to them: but they fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And
what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know? ( Socrates
) Sonnet X by John Donnediscusses the idea that people fear deathwithout just cause, simply
because humans are terrified of that which they cannot comprehend. In his poem, Donne
communicates this messages by means of conceit, personification, and witty wordplay.
Donne is known for writing metaphysical poetry; his writing included lots of conceits, and Sonnet
X is no exception. The metaphysical conceit featured in this poem compares death to sleep. From
rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, / Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
(Donne. Lines 5 6) This couplet articulates that, because death is merely a stronger, much more
permanent version of sleep, it should not be feared; if sleep is pleasurable, then why should
death not be viewed similarly? After all, as Donne continues in lines 11 and 12, sleep induced
by drugs such as opium, which is derived from poppies, and charms can provide rest akin to or
even better than death. So why then, the speaker asks in line 12, is Death so prideful? The
following mention of sleep takes a religious angle; One short sleep past, we wake eternally (Line
13) refers to the interim between a person s death and Judgement Day, when the soul proceeds to
Heaven to live eternally, provided the person lived a righteous lifestyle. Thus, this line means that
death is not the end, per se, but rather the beginning of eternal life in Heaven. While Donne was
not the first to compare death and sleep, this conceit helps communicate that death should not be
feared, for it is much the same as sleep, and marks the beginning of one s eternal stay in the Pearly
Gates.
Wordplay and wit are abundant in Sonnet X; in several instances, the word death is used in three
different ways in the same line! The poem is an apostrophe, the speaker is directing his words at
Death, so obviously, there is personification throughout. This, along with metaphors and other
figures of speech, allows

female serial killer. Written by M. William Phelps, this book brings to light the story of the
woman who ran a murder house over one hundred years ago. The case of Amy is a fascinating one
because of her motive, money. She opened a nursing home for the elderly and then murdered her
clients for financial gain. Amy Archer Gilligan put a lot of planning into her killings, this is her
story.
As any businessperson knows, if you can match service with customer need there s opportunity
for profit. For Amy Archer Gilligan, that opportunity came with the elderly. Amy Archer
Gilligan presented herself to the world as this very innocent Christian woman. She projected
herself as a caretaker who wanted to just take care of the sick and make a living at it. M William
Phelps wrote in this book how he believed that Amy s customers were sold the perfect pitch. He
spoke very highly of her marketing skills and how she sold the idea to so many people. In 1907,
Amy was ahead of her time launching one of New England s first nursing homes. She was a
pioneer of elderly care at the Turner s century in New England. Amy kind of pioneered the whole
idea of nursing elderly people which later turns into proper nursing homes. This was the kind of
thing seniors signed up for. They wanted a peaceful caring home in which to spend their last
few years. The marketing ploy was simple, they would pay a thousand dollars and in return, Amy
gave them life care. Life care meant they stayed in the home she took care of them, fed them,
clothed them, and gave them medicines. There was no time limit. As long as the customers
lived, Amy promised to care for them. Even though it seemed too good to be true, people lined
up. Clients and their families hoped for a long and restful life but Amy s business plan called for
something else, turnover. Let s set the scene, picture a calm and peaceful New England night.
Patients are getting themselves ready for bed and they ve just finished dinner. Amy Archer
Gilligan is in the kitchen mixing up a batch of warm lemonade, which back then was a remedy if
you had the flu or you had an ailment, she kept her costs down, and the

Relational Aggression In Women
Relational Aggression
A large proportion of the research points to the most common form of aggression being relational
between women. According to Miller Ott and Kelly (2013) relational aggression is the behaviors
that harm others through manipulation or damage to social. Miller Ott and Kelly continue by
saying they believe that this is viewed as normative and expected behavior in peer relationships
between women. Just being naturally what women do and that it s difficult to deviate from. To the
point that in order to demonstrate their need for superiority, control, and power is through relational
aggression (Crothers, Lipinski, and Minutolo 2009).
In addition, Behm Morawitz and Mastro (2008) reports that socially aggressive acts are being ...

Barnett and Powell (2015) believe that narcissism appears in women as a mask for their low self

Elder (1985) emphasizes that people are more concerned with others opinions of them and show
a marked increase in self consciousness. However, fear of being rejected by peers has caused
women to avoid upsetting their peers (Crothers, Lipinski, and Minutolo 2009). Which only
creates more problems once people realizes that they aren t being authentic. Cupach and Willer

Three Messages from The Writer
Authors are very clever with their words. They are brilliant and humorous, or even dark and
depressing. They spin tales of wonder and horror and delight, and they tell you of things that are
true. They can show you of the way that things have to be. As such is life and there is no way we
can change that. You cannot stand by and watch as time leaves you as nothing but dust. You cannot
try to change everything for your power only goes so far. Richard Wilbur threw some rather
interesting things into his poem, The Writer , and it just goes to show that even in the simplest of
things, there is a limit to the affect you have on the situation.
Even though some people of this world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Writer , R. Wilbur stated, I wishher a lucky passage...of life or death, as I had forgotten. I
wish what I wished you before, but harder. You can t stand idly by and watch life tumble away
and do nothing but close your eyes and wish. If you want something to be, you must take action
and make everything you can of this short time and help all those in need. You may try as hard
as you might, but there is only so much you can do for the ones you attempt to help. When you
rise up from your place to try to help somebody, you cannot do all of the work. They re the ones
who have to learn and they need help themselves. You can open the window to help the bird, but
it is the one who has to fly out. You can give a child everything they need to succeed in life, but
they have to be the ones to do something with all of that. As said in The Writer , ...For a helpless
hour, we watched the sleek...iridescent creature batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove to
the hard floor... Even though you try to help the people who are panicking and trying to escape,
you can only do so much. If it has to be, then escape or redemption is not possible, due to the one
in peril. In many poems, clever authors hide messages in the plot and in all of the words and
similes. They tie things together with certain words that work together brilliantly. They show the
world through their work the realities and hardships of life. They bring us to the knowledge that try

The National Motto Of The United States Of America
While the 50 s were known as a major countercultural era, the 1950 s in America also allowed for
religion to make a big resurgence. In 1950 specifically, 40% of American were a church member,
and by 1960 this number had risen to nearly 70%. President Eisenhower during this time stated,
Our government makes no sense unless it is founded on a deeply felt religious faith. As he was
concerned about Americans being deadened in mind and soul by a materialistic philosophy of
life. To take it a step further, in 1954, he signed a bill to add one nation under God to the Pledge
of Allegiance. And almost exactly two years proceeding the signing of that bill did, Congress make
In God We Trust the national motto of the United States of America.
In the 1951 1960 Baylor University and other institutions across America were searching for ways
to bolster organizational and academic legitimacy during a time where religion was a major part of
the societal discussion. With Baylor being a major Baptist and religious institution the need to
legitimize the value of a Baylor education was growing. In University President William R. White s
inaugural address he stated that, Those who launched Baylor University had a definite concept of
its two fold purpose [which was] to serve the church and the state...and [the] world... they intended
to influence culture and society with the great distinctive principles of [the University]. And they

A Statement Utter By An Educator
It is not a statement utter by an educator in public, but rather it is a belief that is head and expressed
during faculty meetings, in the teachers, lounge, and even with an intimate partner. Can all children
learn? The question stems from our the educators stress level of what education is. in the
ideological word that allowed us the opportunities to pursue this career, never was it mentioned that
educationwas not what we thought it was. At the end of the day, even at the best schools, we still
question, Are they getting anything out of it? Education is not a lecture, a study guide, and/or a
test. Education is the process to grow and build the whole student into a scholar. Education is
used to imbue students with choice and opportunity, but I fear that we as educators forget that
those choices and those opportunities are not ours to make. All children can learn, and all
children can grow and progress. Not all children will pursue university, but all children will learn
if they are given the space that encourage them to explore their own beliefs and the trust from
their teachers to do so with fear of humiliation. In many facets of education, districts and school
leaders have been trying to determine the best practices for moving and improving their students.
NCLB and Common Core have lead way from a testing and data driven school to a more focused

Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death
Emily Dickinson s Because I could not stop for Death is a remarkable masterpiece that exercises
thought between the known and the unknown. In Dickinson s poem, Because I could not stop
Death, there is much impression in the tone, in symbols and in the use of imagery that over flow
with creativity. One might undoubtedly agree to an eerie, haunting, if not frightening, tone and use
of symbolism in Dickinson s poem.
Dickinson uses controlling adjectives slowly and passed to create a tone that seems rather placid.
For example, We slowly drove He knew no Haste / ...We passed the School ... / We passed the

The first site We passed was the School, where children strove (9). Because it deals with an
important symbol, the Ring this first scene is perhaps the most important. On this invited journey,
one vividly sees Children playing. Laughing and singing. This scene conveys emotions and moods
through verbal pictures.
The imagery in the final scene, We passed the Setting Sun (12) is very emotional. One can
clearly picture a warm setting sun, perhaps, over a grassy horizon. The idea of a setting sun,
aftermath a fact of slumber in a cold dark night. When Dickinson passed the Setting Sun, night
drew nigh and it was time to go home and sleep. Symbolically, her tour of life was over; it was
now time for Eternity death. While sight seeing in the carriage, one can gather, by the setting of
the sun, that this ride was glimpse of life flashing before her eyes; just as said to happen before you

Gossamer, my Gown (14 15). This indicates a pleasant time cut short. Before she knew it, the cold

The imagery in this transcendent poem shines great light on some hidden similarities between life

The Birth Of Sound Recording Technology
Since the birth of sound recording technology in the late 19th century, there have been a multitude
of advancements in the preservation of sound within a physical form, as well as immense impacts
on the way the art is heard, attained, performed, and composed, among many other aspects. Today,
sound recording technology is essential to the lifeblood of music, and offers a plethora of benefits
and options to listeners, musicians, composers, and the like. In a time before the breakthrough,
hearing a symphony or an opera was only possible through attending a live performance.
Therefore the audience s idea of a given piece of music was determined by only what they have
heard performed live. It was certainly possible to see pieces of music performed more than once,
whether by the same musicians or not, yet drawing comparisons between the different
performances was likely a complicated task. Now, we have the advantage of accessing recorded
performances of an unfathomable amount of music. From this, we can easily compare multiple
performances of the same music to further refine our taste, knowledge, and understanding of the
art. To have a sound recording of a composer/musician performing their own work is a major
benefit to the music world, and of course is exclusive to the time following the development of the
technology. Sergei Rachmaninoff recorded many of his works, in particular the Piano Concerto No.

A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur s Court
Even though the setting of both works, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court by Mark
Twain and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, are written in a time period different from their
publication, both works use characters in their novels as a critique of the author s societies.
Twain uses his satirical work to make fun of both the Northern and Southern, but does not make
any direct comparisons between the characters of his novel to real life figures. On the other hand,
the characters in Miller s novel are more directly correlated to specific people and groups during the
Second Red Scare.

During the Second Red Scare the Hollywood Ten were a group of ten actors, directors, and
producers who according to Senator Joseph Mccarthy had communist ties and were trying to
spread Soviet Propaganda through American society by way of media. Even though these actors
may have had slight ties to communism Miller believed that they did not deserve to be
blacklisted from all of media after the trials. Miller uses John Proctor, the protagonist of his
novel, to show the unfairness of these trials. Proctor, while not perfect, was the most sane and
righteous man in the town of Salem during the events of the novel, but he still was put in jail for
a crime that Miller believed would be minor in the eyes of his audiences. Proctor committed
adultery, but did not commit any crimes that would have been generous to Miller s audiences.
Even for this slight crime Proctor was put to death by the judges of Salem. This is in comparison
to the treatment of the Hollywood Ten by Mccarthy and Congress during the Second Red Scare,
where there crimes were slight, but they were put to death anyway due to a power trip by a a few
people in power. This direct comparison between Proctor and the Hollywood Ten allowed Miller to
make the Hollywood Ten seem more innocent and worthy of trust. His use of unfair treatment
against Proctor also made it seem to the audiences that Mccarthy and his

The Struggles Indigenous Peoples Face to Obtain Justice Essay
There are over 5000 Indigenous communities in over 70 different countries. They are defined
collectively under the term Indigenous Peoples (IPs) by the Cobo Report but this term also allows
for their diversity. They face numerous legal issues in attempting to achieve their rights, so they
have collectively united to access the remedies available to them to achieve justice.
Broad characteristics to define them are highlighted in the Mick Dodson report and include:
connection with territory that pre dates invasion, social and cultural traditions such as affinity with
the land and colonisation, resistance and resurgence.

However, there are numerous global pressures detrimentally affecting IPs struggle with the legal
issues they have.
Colonisation, transnational corporations, and environmental degradation can act as a catalyst to
struggle for their rights as seen in Bougainville or concepts that impede their struggle.
Sovereignty, while allowing national governments to implement international remedies, is also the
concept which stops national governments from acting in the interests of IPs through lack of
political will. The concept inherent to IPs legal issues is that national governments see it purely as
a domestic issue.
International instruments such as treaties and conventions are bilateral or multilateral agreements
between states governed by intemational laws which are binding. The International Covenant for
Civil and Political Rights mentions self determination and are is signed by many states such as
Australia. Some bilateral treaties were also signed between colonisers and IPs such as the Treaty of
Waitangi (1840) but were biased, unenforceable and not recognised under international law.
Declarations are statements of principles but are not binding. An example is the Draft Declaration
of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples created by Working Group on Indigenous Populations (WGIP).

The Redskins name is a racist name (Garcia). In this certain circumstance, many people agree

A Moveable Feast By Ernest Hemingway
While reading A Moveable Feast, I felt immersed into Ernest Hemingway s world and developed
a better understanding of him with a human experience. This novel provides an inside look on
both, Hemingway s time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his
premature death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast
gives insight into his life at the time of writing his memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the
reflection comes from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic.
Regardless of the comments from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A
Moveable Feast is the best way to learn about Hemingway and his mindset during the late 1950s
and early 1960s.
Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by
individuals separated by two generations. First, there is the 1964 version which offers the
completed and unified memoir on Hemingway s early years in Paris. It is important to understand
that Hemingway never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed
much of the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is believed by most to be more
accurate to Hemingway s original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. Even though
these versions are very different from one another they both offer valuable insight on Hemingway
as a person.
Since A Moveable Feast was left unfinished,

Devil Facial Tumour Disease Case Study
Introduction: What is Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease?
пЂЄIdentified in 1996 the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) is the growth of fatal
tumours on the faces of Tasmanian Devils (Sarcophilus harrisii), specifically the mouth and teeth.
(Hamede RK, McCallum H Jones M, 2013)
пЂЄAffecting the largest carnivorous marsupial alive (Beeton N McCallum H, 2011) the tumour
cells are transmitted through the biting of one Devil to another either in attack to access food first,
or predominantly as part of mating. (Grueber CE et al. 2015)

Genetic Research on the Histocompatibility Complex and Telomeres
The DFTD tumour is accepted to be clonal, originating from a single Schwann cell that did not dye
in the Devil it first infected rather spreading through the species. (Grueber CE et.al 2015)
The Histocompatibility Complex genome is important for an organism to distinguish its own cells
from foreign cells, yet Tasmanian Devils have a variation in this gene resulting in the tumour cell
going unidentified by the body. (Siddle H et.al 2012)
Finding a way to restore the function of the Histocompatibility Complex genome so that it can
activate antibodies such as ОІ2 microglobulin (ОІ2 m) to kill the tumour should be an area focused
on because it can then be introduced into one infected Devil that can bite others and so the genome
is passed on. (Siddle H et.al 2012)
The DFTD tumour cells also have chromosomes that have been protected from misshaping by
strong Telomere and Shelterin compounds that should worn of long ago due to a lot of DNA
replication. (Grueber CE et al. 2015)
Targeting these Telomere/Shelterin compounds may be useful to suppress the tumour cells, killing
it off.Grueber CE et al. 2015

Descriptive Essay About A Cemetery
I visited the St. Andrews Cemetery and Mausoleum in Saginaw, Michigan. I went on June 10th,
2017 at 9am. This was a very large cemetery with different sections based on saint names. This
cemetery had a few walls throughout, with it, had headstones of those that pasted. There was no
designated children s section that I came across and found children headstones throughout the
cemetery. Some were with families and others had no one that I could tell was of relation. The
mausoleum had two rooms and wrapped all around the building with names of those who passed
away. While I was there I meet some of the grounds people getting ready for a buriallater that
afternoon. When I told them what I was doing there taking pictures and writing things down
they were very helpful to talk to me about the cemetery. They were unfortunately unable to help

a universal background check, and greatly affects mental health professionals. The SAFE Act did
not get consideration from any mental health professionals though, and did not ask for their input.
The Act required mental health professionals to report patients they believe are likely to engage in
conduct that would result in serious harm to self or others to county authorities. Even if the
professional believes the patient would benefit from treatment, and doesn t even know if they have
access to firearms, they must report them. The SAFE Act effectively

Research Paper On Sour Burps
Sour Burps
Are you one of those people who experience sour burps once in a while during the day? This is a
symptom of acid reflux, which is a common gastrointestinal condition among people over 40 years
old.
Sour burping and sour belch are often uncomfortable and embarrassing. Although most people
associate these symptoms with gastroesophageal reflux disease, there are many other possible
factors that can cause these. Part 1: What Causes Sour Burps?
1.Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
The most common cause associated with sour burps is GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease,
which is also sometimes called acid reflux. This is often a chronic condition that affects your life in
many ways. Sour burping and belching are common symptoms, but ... Show more content on

Overweight
Obesity is also associated with sour burps because it increases abdominal pressure and contributes
to reflux. Other obesity associated factors that lead to sour burps include overeating, a sedentary
lifestyle, and diabetes, which may delay stomach emptying and result in reflux.
4.Pregnancy
Pregnancy is another factor associated with acid reflux and sour burps. An enlarging uterus
increases intra abdominal pressure while pregnancy hormones act on the LES, making acid reflux
common in many pregnant women. Other pregnancy related factors that may contribute to sour
burps include shortness of breath, anemia, easy fatigue, air swallowing, and overeating.
5.Smoking
Tobacco smoking and tobacco chewing can cause sour burps in various ways, including air
swallowing, weakening of the LES, and increased stomach acid production due to the stimulant
effect of nicotine and other chemicals found in tobacco.
6.Digestive Disorders
Digestive disorders may weaken the LES, delay emptying of your stomach, or produce excessive
stomach acids, contributing to sour burps. This is common with disorders like:
Gastroparesis
Gastrinoma
Hiatal hernia
Pyloric stenosis
Intestinal motility disorders

Quotations In Julius Caesar, Mark Twain, And John Lennon
We see the quotations everywhere: Sometimes we have to fall apart so better things can fall
together, attributed to Marilyn Monroe, Be the change you want to see in the world, attributed to
Gandhi, and If I knew that I had eight hours to chop a tree down, I would spend the first six
sharpening my axe, attributed to Abraham Lincoln. These quotations are on Facebook profiles, in
pop songs, in school books, and in modern bestsellers. Julius Caesar, Mark Twain, and John Lennon
are some of the more common characters who are often referred to as some of the greatest word
smiths of all time. The problem is that many of the quotations have been tampered with and altered
throughout history. Many quotations attributed to famous people are, at best, paraphrases though
often superior to the original. Others might be subtly altered in the retelling, sometimes with little
impact on their effect, but at other times irresponsibly changing the meaning. Of course, many
people think that it is a lot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . of time. We all know that many of the quotes and potables that are always espoused are often
from The Bible. A perfect example would be the oft quoted No rest for the wicked. This is
actually a paraphrase of Isaiah 57:21: There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. Another
proverb is Money is the root of all evil. This is a summary of 1 Timothy 6:10: For the love of
money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and
pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Even the proverb is wrong love of money not
money itself is the root of all evil. A third proverb is Spare the rod, spoil the child. The closest
version found in The Bible is from Proverbs 13:24: He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he
that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. These proverbs are definitely close to the original in
context, but the subtle changes and differences move them further from the

Hope In Robert O Brien s Z For Zachariah
Robert O Brien s Z for Zachariah (1975) focuses on Ann Burden possibly the last woman on
Earth. The power of hope is effectively portrayed by foregrounding that with hope one can survive,
yet without it, simply surviving can be unbearable. The difference between Ann s life, when she
dreams of a happy future with Mr Loomis, contrasted with the despair she experiences once this
hope has been destroyed, clearly conveys this message.
Readers are positioned to recognise that Mr Loomis arrival to the valley allows Ann to hope for a
more positive future. The idea of marriage and children was now a real possibility now which made
Ann very happy. This is effectively illustrated when she stumbles across the Crabapple tree in full
bloom noting that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Mr Loomis attacks Ann, the valley became very difficult and unbearable due to him
destroying Ann s trust. This is effectively illustrated when Ann preferred to live in a cage than
stay in the same house as she felt she was in danger (138). She could not forget the horror of that
night, and she knew that she would never trust him again. (146) The definite tone and high
modality that Ann uses to describe this scene knew..... could not,.... Would not demonstrated how
Ann strongly felt that she never wanted to and never could trust Loomis again. Not only did Mr
Loomis attack destroy all of Ann s trust in him but it also destroyed any hope of a future together
aswel. Ann believed that at the end Mr Loomis plan was a picture, and it was of her tied up like
Faro in the house (148) which was the total opposite of what Ann had hoped with Loomis in the
future. By using a simile O Brien compares Ann s future with Faro being tied to the house, which
shows the danger that Ann is situated in and positions readers to have a sense of unease.
O Brien highlights the importance of hope in Z for Zachariah by comparing the positive effect of it
when Mr Loomis first arrived to when he destroyed her hope. Although it Was written in 1975, this
novel shared many similarities with modern dystopian texts. For example, Divergents main
protagonist is an adolescent female who finds the strength to survive in a world ruled by corrupt
adults, much like Ann who survives despite misogynistic M Loomis. Furthermore, Tris and Ann are
both fiercely independent, determined, and brave young women whom function as worthy role
models to girls

5 Stages Of Decomposition Research Paper
On December 11, 2008 skeletal remains of a young child were found by an utility worker. By the
time the worker had discovered the remains it had went through 5 stages of decomposition. The
1st stage starts when the person dies (Csanyi). The 1st stage consists of enzymes in dead body
cells start breaking down tissues which is known as autolysis. While this is going on bacteria in
the digestive track start to eat the intestines. The 1st stage is called the fresh stage which can last
for 1 2 days, unless of course the body is in a hot and humid area (Csanyi). Also at this stage
chemical released start to attract flies. The 2nd stage that the body went through is called the
putrefaction or the bloated stage (Csanyi). As the internal bacteria form the intestines start to enter
the rest of the body, it causes the body to fill with gasses and as this happens the body begins to
swell. The smell that comes from this stage is what attracts egg laying insects most of which are
blow flies (Csanyi). The 3rd stage of decompositionthat the body went through while at the dump
site is what is known as the purging or decay stage (Csanyi). During this stage of the process fluids
form inside the body start too come out of the body through the nose or mouth or through breaks in
the abdominal wall and through any soft tissue as the decomposition progresses (Csanyi). Larval...

After Effects in John HerseyВґs Novel Hiroshima
Hiroshima is an outstanding recreation of the complete annihilation and devastation of during the
aftermath and the year following the United States dropping of the atomic bomb. As the war in the
east carried on, many thought this desolated war might last a lifetime, all the while hoping for an
end and praying it not mean their own end. To end the war, Americans had to pick a target that
would leave the Japanese government with nowhere to retreat, allowing for a crippling effect that
would essentially cause their collapse and surrender. In his writings, John Hersey proclaims that
Hiroshimawas a ... inviting target mainly because it had been one of the most important military
command and communications centres in Japan ... (HERSEY, P. 107). In the minds of American
strategists, this must have seemed a flawless method to force the Japanese military into a corner,
not allowing withdrawal without laying down of arms. There was surely no doubt that dropping
this bomb of god like destructive power would, at a minimum, tear into the souls of Japanese,
causing catastrophic devastation.
Of those in the book distraught by the massive explosion, the Reverend Kiyoshi Tanimoto seemed
to be the one person most effected mentally and emotionally by the horrific sights and sounds of the
turmoil. Mr. Tanimoto seemed, to himself, to be the one person not physically harmed by the blast,
causing a great deal remorse, self loathing, and shame for having been unharmed. During the

Difference Between Children Literature And Children s...
2.2Theoretical Orientation
2.2.1Children Literature
Children s literature has been used a lot as a useful and critical material in teaching reading.
According to Rebecca (2010) Children s Literature as a concept is defined as literature exclusively
about children. Children s literature refers mainly to stories, poetry, rhymes, folk tales, drama,
exclusively created for children such as infants, toddlers and the young people as target audience.
But to look deeper, because children s experiences, knowledge and interests are limited, their
literature differs from adult but only in degree not in kind. Children s literature is a rich resource for

The reader applies many strategies to reconstruct the meaning that the author is assumed to have

Teaching reading is one of the critical parts of teaching language. Through reading, the teacher role
is to guide student how to comprehend written language so that the student can get the idea and
share their thought to other easily. Byrnes (1998) stated that reading is an interactive process that

words, sentences, and paragraphs that encode meaning. The reader uses knowledge, skills, and
strategies to determine what that meaning is. Before teaching reading, it is necessary for teacher to
meet some requirements mentioned before. Teacher also has to be completely understood and

Why Did The French Bourgeoisie-Led Revolution
Intro:
In 1789 the storming of the Bastille on the 14th of July signalled the start of a change in political
history which would not only lead to half a decade of political unrest in France, but would also
change the face of european history forever. From the spread of enlightenment ideology and the
idea of true democracy, France was the centerpiece for radical political and social change in the
18th and 19th century.
The foundations of which the revolution was built however are not as clearly defined or easy to
understand as the aftermath of the revolution. On one hand there is strong support arguing that the
revolution was a result of an unfair class system, on the other there are historians who see that the
peasant led revolution was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

power in the monarchy, war, social inequality or even in the status of religious figures, the situation

Iron Deficiency And Its Effects
Researches done in the past have showed that iron deficiency can cause physiologic, morphologic,
and biochemical changes in the orangs affected by it before there is a change in hematocrit (Beard
JL, 2001).
Iron is an essential micronutrient that is needed by the body because it is required for several
neurological metabolic processes such as: myelination, cytokinesis, electron transport, antioxidant
enzyme activity, and biogenic metabolism (Hyman, 2012).
Iron also plays an important role in the developing central nervous system of an infant due to the
fact that iron participates in a wide variety of cellular function and is essential for normal neural
development and physiology (Hyman, 2012). Thus, iron deficiency during an infant s neurological
development is a critical point because it can significantly impact a variety of behavioral and
cognitive function.
The part of the brain that is affected by iron depletion is the deep cerebral nuclei, substantia nigra,
and basal ganglia (Hyman, 2012). These three parts of the brain are the ones that have the highest
concentration of iron in an adult s brain and they are involved in the coordination and motor
control of the body (Lozoff B, 2011). An iron deficient adult also shows a decrease in dopamine
neurotransmission, which relates to the motor control (Lozoff B, 2011). In addition, dopamine also
plays a role in the prefrontal striatal system, which is involved in selective memory, spatial, and
working memory (Lozoff B,

Most Common Auto Immune Disease
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systematic inflammatory disease characterized by synovitis (constant
inflammation of the synovial membranes) and autoantibodies. The disease that affects 0.5 1.0% of
all adults in industrialized countries, mostly women and elderly people (Scott et al, 2010). In the
United States, more than 1.5 million people suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, making it one of the
most common auto immune disease (Carmona et al. 2010). According to the Arthritis Foundation,
individuals who suffer from arthritis have to deal with joint pain, morning stiffness, fatigue, loss
of appetite, depressive symptoms, and low grade fever which can last a few days to weeks.
Individuals with this disease tend to have a low quality of life and difficulties with day to day
activities.
There are 5 types of RA progression measured by imaging radiography. Type 1 is identified as a
rare type, with no radiographic progression, type 2 is a slow or moderate onset with increasing
progression, type 3 is a moderate to fast onset with stable progression, type 4 is a fast onset with
a decreased progression rate, and type 5 is a slow onset with acceleration in progression, then
deceleration (Graudal et al, 2004). Having any of the five types of RA can cause disability as a
result of joint damage, lowers quality of life, and can lead to other comorbidities such as
cardiovascular disease, tuberculosis, malignancies, and mental health conditions such anxiety and
depression (Scott et al,

Come, therefore, and let us consider together whether perchance thou dost boast unrighteously, O, Israel, and whether thou small portion of vinegar and gall has not brought down this fearful threatening upon thee and whether this is not the cause of thy present condition involved in these myriad of troubles.5 As the Church came into power in the fourth century, it turned on the synagogues with even greater intensity. Jewish civil and religious status was deteriorating, thanks to the influence the bishops had in the political arena. Laws were passed making it a capital offense for any Jew to make a convert, they were excluded from various professions, denied all civil honors, and their autonomy of worship was being threatened. In every way, they were being discriminated against. Christians felt that this growing evidence now supported their belief in divine punishment. Hilary of Potieres spoke of the Jews as a people who had always persisted in iniquity and out of its abundance of evil glorified in wickedness. 6 Ambrose defended a fellow bishop ... • 4. How Does Body Art Affect Our Society Tattoos. Piercings. Colored hair. From the Bronze Age to Egypt, Japan, China, and other countries the appearance of body art has spread and has found its way throughout the world; brought to society today from culture, symbolism, and religion in ancient times. Many difficulties reside around the looks they give off in a place of professionalism. Though in modern day society body art is becoming more popular and uprising controversy of their presence in a workplace is becoming more of a problem. Body art is a beautiful way to express yourself and if people with it cannot show it off without consequences towards their careers is disappointing. A new law needs to be formed to protect those who have them from getting discriminated against or fired. For the younger generations are becoming more fond and interested in body art, while the older generations disapprove this uproar.Within the younger generation known as the Millennials, early 1980s to early 2000s, are developing our society into one where body art is becoming accepted. The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology published data showing that in 2006 approximately 24 percent of Americans had a form of body art when back in 1976 it was only around one percent (Cooke). Also from 2007 to 2012 the number of people that had two or more tattoos increased, which would make it 13 percent more popular (Tattoos in the Workplace Statistics). So with body art on the rise and it becoming the new grind, why is it not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gun Control in the United States Gun Control in the United States has gone out of control. The United States should enforce laws to not allow any guns in a house hold in order to reduce violence and crime in the country. Reducing the rate of crime in the United States, controlling big weapons, taxing ammunition, and gun collection can help make this happen. Gun Control can make this country a safer environment to live in. Gun Control has obviously gone out of control in the recent years. Look around, they are everywhere. Reducing the rate of Crime in the United States would make the country a better place to live. In the past and in the present, Mass Shootings have impacted America. Virginia Tech shooting killed 33 teachers and students (Bowman). In 1999, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We may not see this group but the mafia was big back in the day. The mafia was the leading group in criminal activity in the 1960 s(Darity). The mafia was a group that would make tons and tons of money off of drugs, robberies and murders. They would sometimes pay off cops to look the other way and if they didn t get what they wanted they would use their firearms. With stronger and more enforced laws, many lives could have been saved. The mafia isn t the only group with guns being used. Gangs are also using guns on an everyday basis. The gangs on the streets are just like the mafia. They sell drugs, rob people/stores and murder. Not all gangs are on the streets, some are underground. The point is without guns on the streets, neighborhoods and cities will be a safer place to live. A big controversy in congress is passing a law to Tax ammunition/bullets to a gun. This will not just help the country from crime, it will help the economy. Today almost 65% of people own a gun and 50% have live ammunition to that gun (Domenech). Taxing every bullet to every gun in the entire country will generate millions of dollars. Another idea is to have gun collection days and ammunition collection days. Obviously the more guns you bring in, the more money the government will give to you. If none of these ideas work, congress can at least limit the ammunition to a gun in a house. The thought of having a gun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Book The Coming Of The Moon And James... object, every individual has felt love and attraction towards something because it gave them a sense of acceptance and purpose. As an individual achieves acceptance, they define a purpose. As a common theme of life; Nino Ricci s story, Going to the Moon and James Joyce s story, Araby similarly established the theme, allure of the other by demonstrating mutual aspects. For instance, the two stories both illustrated young isolated male narrators who were plot driven by older influencing female characters that accepted them. Together, they re relationships helped to explore and define the concepts of allure, acceptance, reality and imagination, which aided to break the isolated nature of the protagonists. Ricci and Joyce demonstrated that their particular protagonist ultimately shared the same desire, dilemma, and discovery as the other character; the desire for acceptance and purpose , the dilemma to achieve acceptance , and the discovery that acceptance is not always what it seems . Initially, the narrators shared the same desire for affection because of a powerful attraction or Allure towards a prominent female character. In Ricci s Story, the narrator displayed an allure for Miss Johnson (his teacher), while in Joyce s story, the narrator developed an allure towards Mangan s sister (a peer s sibling). Hence, the theme, the allure of the other , allowed individuals of the opposite sex to serve as a catalyst for plot development and succession. Similarly, the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Colonel Shaw is offered a position as commander of the first African American regiment including Private Trip (Denzel Washington) and Sergeant Major John Rawlins (Morgan Freeman) by the governor of Massachusetts. When Col. Shaw decides to command the regiment, he was unsure of what the 54th Massachusetts Regiment could accomplish. Mulcahy s suggestion and trains them harshly. The next training session was mainly focused on aiming and shooting guns quickly. Robert decides to watch them practice shooting guns, but when they take their time to load their guns, he gets upset. He chooses Private Jupiter Sharts to specifically watch. Pvt. Sharts states that he hunted squirrels so his aim is up to par. Col. Shaw states that, a good man can fire three aimed shots in a minute so when, Pvt. Sharts cannot deliver quick load and unload of his rifle within the minute, Col. Shaw yells at him and shoots a gun in the air to show how fast he should be able to shoot. After getting flustered by the pressure of Col. Shaw, Pvt. Sharts drops the gun. Col. Shaw was also harsh on Private Trip. When Pvt. Trip disappears and is re discovered, he is sentenced to a flogging punishment. Major Cabot Forbes, a close friend of Col. Shaw, tries to convince Robert to change his mind about the flogging, because it would make them no better than their past slaveowners. Colonel Robert Shaw ignores Maj. Forbes comment because he realizes he needs to be tough on the regiment in order to prepare them for war. He tells Sergeant Mulcahy to proceed with the flogging. • 8. How Did Babylonians Use Bladed Weapons Gabby brooks and thomas willett April 14, 2017 4th hour American History Weaponry The ancient babylonians used sharpened weapons such as sickle swords, socketed axes, spears, and the egyptian derived bladed mace, as well as clubs and staffs, and they also used projectiles flung from war slings. The babylonians were a bronze age people, so the bladed weapons they used were made of a softer metal than later civilizations iron and steel. This made them less effective in battle than iron and iron alloy based weapons, as iron is harder and harder blades that can take a shaper point. At the time, though bronze was top of the line technology. The babylonians were so good at the empire building that later armies modeled their weapons after the babylonians designs. The Babylonians lived in the city of Babylonia, based in central southern Mesopotamia. This city was located on the river Euphrates in what is now known as southern Iraq. The city first came into prominence as the royal city of king Hammurabi around the year of 1790 BC. • 9. Adolescent, Antisocial Behavior And Behavior On the other hand, Moffitt (1993) also identifies adolescent limited as part of the adolescent offenders. Adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is defined by antisocial behaviour that starts occurring during adolescence and discontinues at the beginning of adulthood. These individuals have no history of antisocial behaviour in their childhoodand are unlikely to continue this behaviour in the future. They are also not consistent with their antisocial behaviour in different situations. While life course persistent individuals act antisocially in all situations, changing their type of antisocial behaviour to fit the circumstances, adolescent limited individuals might only express antisocial behaviours in certain situations, but not in others. Causes of Adolescent Limited Antisocial Behaviour The cause of adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is theorised for one to be social mimicry. Adolescents who do not express life course persistent antisocial behaviour, might still know or observe individual who do. Adolescents might observe an advantage in this behaviour and start to mimic it. This advantage might be a mature status that is accompanied by power and privilege. It can be argued that industrialisation and the resulting consequence of children achieving the social adult statutes later and later in life, leads to a maturity gap, where the biological age and social age do not match up. This may lead to a increased desire for maturity statues within adolescents. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a landing spot for more than 40,000 American troops who waded through the surf to face a barrier of German soldiers and artillery. Unfortunately, an estimated 5,000 Allied soldiers died within the first few hours of landing. Celeste: But, by the end of the day, the Allies had successfully stormed Normandy s beaches. This is one of the reasons why these D Day beaches are so significant to this country it was the beginning of the liberation of France! By the end of August, 1944 they reached the Seine River, Paris was liberated and the Germans were removed from north western France which effectively concluded the Battle of Normandy. • 13. Chromium Plating Research Paper Due to the industrial restrictions in place across some the main areas of the world under health and safety regulations, finding an alternative plating process to the current hexavalent chromium process has become a real necessity. Trivalent chromium has proved to be a suitable replacement due to being less toxic, both health wise and environmentally, whilst also demonstrating almost identical metalfinishes to those of the hexavalent chromiumdeposits. However, the trivalent chromium chemical process is not without its difficulties, such as the inertness of the Cr3+ ions to be reduced to their metallic state, or the initial inferiority of the metal deposits physical properties in comparison to the deposits attained from conventional techniques. In order to overcome these issues multiple approaches have been investigated. It has been found that the use of complexing agents in the trivalent chromium electrolyte solution work to generate stable complexes with Cr3+ through ligand exchange which are then easily reducible to metallic chromium. Not only does this now allow chromium deposition to take place, but it also improves the current efficiency of the electrodeposit. The process of co depositing chromium as an alloy with other metals has shown to enhance the physical and chemical properties of the metal as opposed to individual electrodepositions; an ability that is unattainable for hexavalent chromium, giving an immediate advantage. In addition, the outcome of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dick s writing in his short story Beyond Lies the Wub. Philip K. Dick was a unique author that explored an unknown part of science fiction and ultimately created many award winning and interactive short stories. Beyond Lies the Wub was written in 1952, the same era of the Cold War. Similar to men who were setting off to fight stalked up on food, clothes and machinery, Franco, a pragmatic captain in this short storyloaded up on live animals before their departure to Mars. Since Beyond Lies The Wub has multiple unclear meanings and messages, readers may be left unpleased. However, Dick may have intentionally created this confusion so that each reader has a unique experience in how they discern the text. One interpretation of Beyond Lies the Wub is that Franco may have been punished for his wrongdoings. Even though the crew was not fully supportive and the Wub warned him about killing him, he still slaughtered the innocent animal. Another interpretation of the text could be hinting that Philip K. Dick was vegetarian and thinks those who consume meat should be punished. However, Dick s multiple comments throughout the story about the concern of the crews starvation suggest Franco s intention was to feed the deprived crew. Dick s common tactic of ending his mysterious, vague short stories is by implementing an adjacent character who is just as confused as the audience. The story ends very abruptly leaving Peterson torn between two sides: whether his captain was just trying to feed his crew or was the innocent animal who deemed himself worthy of living through his knowledge living through the Captain as a punishment. By Dick ending the story before the audience receives any more information about how Franco is now the wub and how Peterson reacts, allows the audience to interpret it for themselves. Ultimately we must ask ourselves, is all the confusion and lack of clarity making Dick s stories truly effective? I think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author, Ray Bradbury, failed to pull me in, and the novel didn t open my eyes to the viewpoints portrayed in the novel. Although Fahrenheit 451 carries themes of rebirth of society, government censorship, and the nature of humanity, these themes were overwhelmed by one theme that bled into every action, dialogue piece, and narrative section: technology corrupts. This theme could have made for a wonderful book, as there are intriguing and thoughtful pieces on the nature of technology, like the TV series Black Mirror. Whether it s the teenage girl giving a monologue or the scared old man, all the characters sound the same when they re preaching Bradbury s anti technology agenda. Many of us will not be able to go to Africa, but through TV documentaries, we can. The jazz of New Orleans would be out of reach for most, were it not for radio and other electronic transmissions. Perhaps Bradbury might have had a real fear of the changes a world view would initiate when the book was written, but now it carries the gravitas of someone wearing a tin foil hat. • 18. Sonnet X By John Donne Analysis Socrates once said: [...]For anything that men can tell, death may be the greatest good that can happen to them: but they fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know? ( Socrates ) Sonnet X by John Donnediscusses the idea that people fear deathwithout just cause, simply because humans are terrified of that which they cannot comprehend. In his poem, Donne communicates this messages by means of conceit, personification, and witty wordplay. Donne is known for writing metaphysical poetry; his writing included lots of conceits, and Sonnet X is no exception. The metaphysical conceit featured in this poem compares death to sleep. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, / Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow, (Donne. Lines 5 6) This couplet articulates that, because death is merely a stronger, much more permanent version of sleep, it should not be feared; if sleep is pleasurable, then why should death not be viewed similarly? After all, as Donne continues in lines 11 and 12, sleep induced by drugs such as opium, which is derived from poppies, and charms can provide rest akin to or even better than death. So why then, the speaker asks in line 12, is Death so prideful? The following mention of sleep takes a religious angle; One short sleep past, we wake eternally (Line 13) refers to the interim between a person s death and Judgement Day, when the soul proceeds to Heaven to live eternally, provided the person lived a righteous lifestyle. Thus, this line means that death is not the end, per se, but rather the beginning of eternal life in Heaven. While Donne was not the first to compare death and sleep, this conceit helps communicate that death should not be feared, for it is much the same as sleep, and marks the beginning of one s eternal stay in the Pearly Gates. Wordplay and wit are abundant in Sonnet X; in several instances, the word death is used in three different ways in the same line! The poem is an apostrophe, the speaker is directing his words at Death, so obviously, there is personification throughout. This, along with metaphors and other figures of speech, allows ... William Phelps, this book brings to light the story of the woman who ran a murder house over one hundred years ago. The case of Amy is a fascinating one because of her motive, money. She opened a nursing home for the elderly and then murdered her clients for financial gain. Amy Archer Gilligan put a lot of planning into her killings, this is her story. As any businessperson knows, if you can match service with customer need there s opportunity for profit. For Amy Archer Gilligan, that opportunity came with the elderly. Amy Archer Gilligan presented herself to the world as this very innocent Christian woman. She projected herself as a caretaker who wanted to just take care of the sick and make a living at it. M William Phelps wrote in this book how he believed that Amy s customers were sold the perfect pitch. He spoke very highly of her marketing skills and how she sold the idea to so many people. In 1907, Amy was ahead of her time launching one of New England s first nursing homes. She was a pioneer of elderly care at the Turner s century in New England. Amy kind of pioneered the whole idea of nursing elderly people which later turns into proper nursing homes. This was the kind of thing seniors signed up for. They wanted a peaceful caring home in which to spend their last few years. The marketing ploy was simple, they would pay a thousand dollars and in return, Amy gave them life care. Life care meant they stayed in the home she took care of them, fed them, clothed them, and gave them medicines. There was no time limit. As long as the customers lived, Amy promised to care for them. Even though it seemed too good to be true, people lined up. Clients and their families hoped for a long and restful life but Amy s business plan called for something else, turnover. Let s set the scene, picture a calm and peaceful New England night. Patients are getting themselves ready for bed and they ve just finished dinner. You cannot try to change everything for your power only goes so far. The Birth Of Sound Recording Technology Since the birth of sound recording technology in the late 19th century, there have been a multitude of advancements in the preservation of sound within a physical form, as well as immense impacts on the way the art is heard, attained, performed, and composed, among many other aspects. Today, sound recording technology is essential to the lifeblood of music, and offers a plethora of benefits and options to listeners, musicians, composers, and the like. In a time before the breakthrough, hearing a symphony or an opera was only possible through attending a live performance. Therefore the audience s idea of a given piece of music was determined by only what they have heard performed live. It was certainly possible to see pieces of music performed more than once, whether by the same musicians or not, yet drawing comparisons between the different performances was likely a complicated task. Now, we have the advantage of accessing recorded performances of an unfathomable amount of music. From this, we can easily compare multiple performances of the same music to further refine our taste, knowledge, and understanding of the art. To have a sound recording of a composer/musician performing their own work is a major benefit to the music world, and of course is exclusive to the time following the development of the technology. • 34. A Moveable Feast By Ernest Hemingway While reading A Moveable Feast, I felt immersed into Ernest Hemingway s world and developed a better understanding of him with a human experience. This novel provides an inside look on both, Hemingway s time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his premature death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast gives insight into his life at the time of writing his memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the reflection comes from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic. Regardless of the comments from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A Moveable Feast is the best way to learn about Hemingway and his mindset during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by individuals separated by two generations. First, there is the 1964 version which offers the completed and unified memoir on Hemingway s early years in Paris. It is important to understand that Hemingway never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed much of the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is believed by most to be more accurate to Hemingway s original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. Even though these versions are very different from one another they both offer valuable insight on Hemingway as a person. Since A Moveable Feast was left unfinished, ... The reader does this by comparing information in the text to his or her background knowledge and prior experience Stated Mikulecky in 2008 Teaching reading is one of the critical parts of teaching language. Through reading, the teacher role is to guide student how to comprehend written language so that the student can get the idea and share their thought to other easily. Byrnes (1998) stated that reading is an interactive process that goes on between the reader and the text, resulting in comprehension. The text presents letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs that encode meaning. The reader uses knowledge, skills, and strategies to determine what that meaning is. Before teaching reading, it is necessary for teacher to meet some requirements mentioned before. Teacher also has to be completely understood and choose the effective method and technique as well as preparing the decent reading material. • 52. Why Did The French Bourgeoisie-Led Revolution Intro: In 1789 the storming of the Bastille on the 14th of July signalled the start of a change in political history which would not only lead to half a decade of political unrest in France, but would also change the face of european history forever. From the spread of enlightenment ideology and the idea of true democracy, France was the centerpiece for radical political and social change in the 18th and 19th century. The foundations of which the revolution was built however are not as clearly defined or easy to understand as the aftermath of the revolution. On one hand there is strong support arguing that the revolution was a result of an unfair class system, on the other there are historians who see that the peasant led revolution was ... The fact that there is a relationship between economic factors and the revolution cannot be underestimated, however the argument as to whether it is the preeminent reason for the revolution can be argued. Although the monetary issues can be seen in the fall of power in the monarchy, war, social inequality or even in the status of religious figures, the situation remains that all the events leading up to the 14th July 1789 were inextricably linked. Furthermore one could argue that whether other factors caused the economic problems, which in turn caused the revolution? • 54. Iron Deficiency And Its Effects Researches done in the past have showed that iron deficiency can cause physiologic, morphologic, and biochemical changes in the orangs affected by it before there is a change in hematocrit (Beard JL, 2001). Iron is an essential micronutrient that is needed by the body because it is required for several neurological metabolic processes such as: myelination, cytokinesis, electron transport, antioxidant enzyme activity, and biogenic metabolism (Hyman, 2012). Iron also plays an important role in the developing central nervous system of an infant due to the fact that iron participates in a wide variety of cellular function and is essential for normal neural development and physiology (Hyman, 2012). Thus, iron deficiency during an infant s neurological development is a critical point because it can significantly impact a variety of behavioral and cognitive function. The part of the brain that is affected by iron depletion is the deep cerebral nuclei, substantia nigra, and basal ganglia (Hyman, 2012). These three parts of the brain are the ones that have the highest concentration of iron in an adult s brain and they are involved in the coordination and motor control of the body (Lozoff B, 2011). An iron deficient adult also shows a decrease in dopamine neurotransmission, which relates to the motor control (Lozoff B, 2011). In addition, dopamine also plays a role in the prefrontal striatal system, which is involved in selective memory, spatial, and working memory (Lozoff B, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The disease that affects 0.5 1.0% of all adults in industrialized countries, mostly women and elderly people (Scott et al, 2010). In the United States, more than 1.5 million people suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, making it one of the most common auto immune disease (Carmona et al. 2010). According to the Arthritis Foundation, individuals who suffer from arthritis have to deal with joint pain, morning stiffness, fatigue, loss of appetite, depressive symptoms, and low grade fever which can last a few days to weeks. Individuals with this disease tend to have a low quality of life and difficulties with day to day activities. There are 5 types of RA progression measured by imaging radiography. Type 1 is identified as a rare type, with no radiographic progression, type 2 is a slow or moderate onset with increasing progression, type 3 is a moderate to fast onset with stable progression, type 4 is a fast onset with a decreased progression rate, and type 5 is a slow onset with acceleration in progression, then deceleration (Graudal et al, 2004). Having any of the five types of RA can cause disability as a result of joint damage, lowers quality of life, and can lead to other comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, tuberculosis, malignancies, and mental health conditions such anxiety and depression (Scott et al, ...
