The Impact Of Friendship On People s Lives
The Impact of Friendship
Close social relationships have a dramatic affect on people s lives. Specifically, friendships are
amazing in that each one is different yet all friendships share several qualities. Although
friendships are a very positive thing to have, they also come with costs. Friendships have always
intrigued me, so I found it fascinating to learn about the impact they have and it gave me a new
perspective to look at my own friendships.
Friendships can be very different from one another but they all have recognizable characteristics.
Floyd (2011) defines these characteristics of friendship as voluntary, between peers, governed by
rules, differ by sex, and have a lifespan. People become friends with one another out of choice, ...

These rules can vary from behavior to the feelings one has about their friend. Criticizing a friend
behind their back or being dishonest are widely looked down upon. These rules are unchanged
by differences in sex but other aspects of the friendship differ. Floyd (2011) states that same sex
friends value different aspects of their friendships. Friendships between women tend to
emphasize conversation and emotional expressiveness. Men s friendships place more of a focus
on shared activities and interests according to Floyd (2011). I personally find this quite accurate
to examples in my life. On the other hand, opposite sex friendships are valuable as they allow
both men and women to see things from each other s perspectives. Floyd (2011) says that
opposite sex friendships allow men to be emotionally expressive and women to partake in shared
activities. Many reasons can prevent an opposite sex friendship from becoming a romantic
relationship. A lack of physical attraction, wanting to protect an existing friendship, and fear of
rejection, are a few of the reasons Floyd (2011) lists. The final characteristic is that friendships have
lifespans. An unfortunate reality, but as Floyd (2011) puts it, most friendships are initiated,
maintained, and eventually many of them end. Nagging, criticizing, abuse of alcohol and drugs,
and hostile behaviors can lead to declining friendships, which

Inner City Stereotypes Essay
Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian; we all have our thoughts on them. What do I mean you ask?
The thoughts that we have already preset for the different races. The assumptions we use to portray
a single person or group; are stereotypes. The unreliable generalization about all members of a
group that does not recognize individual differences within the group. We will not talk about
stereotypes everywhere. Lets narrow the focus down to innercity stereotypes.
An inner city is an area inside of a city associated with social and economic problems. Think of Los
Angeles, there are multiple neighborhoods inside it; such as Watts, and Compton. Even better think
of New York City, some of the neighborhoods include; Brooklyn, Harlem, Queens, and Manhattan.

Most people will have negative views and associates them as a criminal. They will assume that you
live in poverty, you are on government assistance, and that you obtain a low level education. These
views are forced on us because of the way society has delineate them. For example when we see
a news report about a car that has been stolen in the inner city we instantly think a poor raised
black man; but why? Well society has told us that if one black man has stolen, then all black men
are thieves. On television they advertise welfare and government assistance, but what they show is
a poor single parent, who is generally a minority. Society tell us that these stereotypes are what
everyone is like, but that is just not the case.
I can tell you first hand that the stereotypes about us inner city people are wrong. I say us
because I am an inner city born and raised resident. Some people from these parts commit crime
therefore it supports the notion and claims of these stereotypes. Why do people get shocked or
surprised when a stereotype is wrong? I was raised to never judge a book by it s cover, I understand
everyone was not raised like me; everyone claims they do not judge before knowing the facts,
which we all know to not be true. Before meeting someone we already have an idea of who they
are and where they came

The Legend Of Zelda s Mask
What is the most mysterious video game you have ever played? The Legend of Zelda: Majora s
Mask is by far the darkest entry in the series (Beast). Majora s Mask, the mysterious pastime that
gave its creators nightmares, is not only one of the best participants in the Legend of Zelda
series, but also one of the top games of all time. Even though it had a slow start, because
Nintendo s rival released the PlayStation 2, a few days after Majora s Mask was released, in spite
of this, it still claimed its spot as one of the greatest technological amusements of all time
(Luckerson). Majora s Mask received many incredible ratings, many of which were near perfect

The mask finally now free, immediately began its plot to destroy the earth. Skull Kid summoned
the moon to come crashing down on Termina. In the interim, with three days of life left for
everyone, Link swiftly solved everyone s problems and re ascended the moon back to space.
This three day period is not only an excellent addition to the story, but it is also a great challenge
for players. Time steadily passes in the game while you play, with the daylight giving way to the
night... (Stratton 14). Each day is 18 minutes long, allowing for a whopping 54 minutes of game
time (Mirabella). Accordingly, this added pressure can easily stump beginning players, but for
masters of Majora s Mask, time seems to stand still. The developers did not leave players without a
remedy for this time limit though; they provided players with the Ocarina of Time.
Given to Link by Princess Zelda, this magical instrument calls forth legendary powers to aid
Link in his quest (Stratton 21). The most useful way that Link can use the Ocarina of Time is to
slow time down, which doubles those precious 54 minutes into 108 stress free minutes. In
addition to this, Link can use his Ocarina is to travel back to the dawn of the first day of the
story. This allows him another three days to try to save the world again. Most people who had
complaints toward Majora s Mask were specifically unhappy about the time limit. For this reason,

Threats of New Entrants
Define: the threat new competitors constitute on preexisting competitors in an industry
By increasing successful and ideal operations and strengthening relationships with their customers,
companies existing in this market diminish the significance of threat over newly accepted
competitors. Toothpastecompanies are still growing strongly, therefore additional firms are trying to
enter the market to benefit from the increasing profits. However, most toothpaste companies have

Bargaining Power of Suppliers
Define: Pressure suppliers can put onto their customers by increasing prices, decreasing the quality
of items, and minimizing availability
Toothpaste manufacturers depend on outside sources for their caps, tubs, and ingredients to
produce toothpaste. If for some reason one of these items are not available it may affect
production of the item. Because of this, supplies depend heavily on their outside sources and have
a huge impact on the production of the product. There is a high level of competition amongst
suppliers which aids in reducing the prices to producers. Reducing the prices to producers also
reduces the price to consumers. There are many suppliers in this market which allows multiple
firms to prosper without stealing market from another business. As a consumer in this market, if
one company has issues collecting materials, increases prices, or alters the quality of the item, I am
always able to switch over to another brand.
Environment in this force is medium to low competitive wise.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
Define: Pressure consumers can put on businesses to get them to supply better quality products,
superior customer service, and decreased prices.
The buyers in this sector are individual households. People use toothpaste for their own personal
use. The customer power is magnified when the market has many sellers and fewer customers. The
switching cost from one seller to another is another

Consequences of Vietnamese Victory Against the French in...
Assess the consequences of the Vietnamese victory against the French for Indochina in the periods
1954 1964.
The Vietnamese victory against the French at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 brought about
dramatic changes to Indochina. These changes took place in the Geneva Conference which shortly
happened after the battle of Dien Bien Phu. General Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh who were
the Vietminh s leader had only one goal and that was to unify Vietnamand declare independence
from colonial rule but however their goals were not achieved at the end of the Geneva Conference
due to a number of reasons.

The Soviets were more concerned about the security situation in Europe while China feared being
dragged into another Korea style confrontation against the US in Indochina and therefore pressured
the Vietminh to accept the division of Vietnam. The result of the tensions at the conference due to
behind the scenes pressures and secret meetings was the Geneva Agreement of 1954. It was a
compromise which satisfied nobody. This would soon lead to a second Indochina war due to the
involvements of the U.S who sought to spread nationalism and anti communist ideas throughout
Vietnam and the Soviet and China who supported the Communist North.
The historian Stanley Karnow made a comment that America had a strict desire to not be
committed to anything being signed at Geneva because of the fact that US Secretary of State
Dulles ordered the US delegation chief, Bedell Smith, to remain aloof and make no concessions to
the Communists. Dulles knew, suggests Karnow, that whatever was going to come out of Geneva
was going to be unsatisfactory.
The Geneva Conference produced no durable solution to the Indochina conflict, only a military
truce that awaited a political settlement, which never really happened. So the conference was
merely an interlude between two wars or rather, a lull in the same war

The Ordeal Of Elizabeth Marsh
A biography is defined as a written account of another person s life. The key word in the
definition being another person s life. Biographies are full of great information that can often
times make history fun and exciting. Historical phenomenon is often portrayed through
biographies allowing us to see how society has developed over time and how the past and
present may be similar. Although biographies are full of information often times it is impossible
to prove them to be true because they aren t written by the person themselves. Linda Colley s
The ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh is a great example of an exciting biography that allows us to learn
about British Imperial Rule through someone else s eyes. In Linda Colley s The ordeal of
Elizabeth Marsh it becomes clear very quickly just how much British Imperial Rule effected
Elizabeth s life. British Imperial Rule was so strict that Elizabeth was forced to marry a man
that would offer her the most social advancement not only for herself but for her father as well.
She originally was supposed to marry Henry John Phillips because his family was very high up
on the social latter, however it didn t end up working out. Instead Elizabeth marries pretends and
later marries James Crisp, not necessarily because of love but again because of the social
standings that come with it. James Crisps social and financial background was much greater than
Elizabeth s lowering his overall wealthy and social standing. The seven year war also had

The Independence Of Puerto Rico
Introduction
The attempted assassination of President Truman was an indication that Puerto Ricans would use
any necessary means to gain independence. Puerto Rico has been a territory of the United States for
almost a century. The citizens of Puerto Rico have always had different views on whether they want
independence or greater autonomy. The following essay will focus on the commonwealth status of
Puerto Rico and the attempted assassination of President Truman.
The commonwealth status of Puerto Rico between the 1950 1952 was with limited autonomy since
the Island was still under the Sovereignty of the United States (Francesco, C. Eugene, 1999). The
United States annexed Puerto Rico following the end of the Spanish American War. For almost a
century Puerto Rico has been under the influence of the United States. The constitutional
convention of 1952 gave Puerto Rico the right to form a republican government.
The citizens of Puerto Rico were not satisfied with the current status. For instance, under the
commonwealth status, Puerto Ricans could not exercise their political rights. While they were
considered the United States citizens, they could participate in the voting exercise in the United
States. The Island has no representation in the Electoral College, which means that none of the
citizens can take part in the presidential elections. This was a major challenge for the Puerto
Ricans, who felt that there was a need for change. The Puerto Ricans were also not protected

The Importance Of Being A Good Waitress
I have been waitressing almost two years, during this long period of time, I learned the
importance of being a good waitress. By being a successful waitress I am not only getting
excellent tips, but I am also making my customers remember my service. I enjoy the time I spend
talking with my customers and taking care of them. I meet a lot of interesting people since I have
started working at the restaurant. In order to become a successful waitress, a waitress has to take
goodcare of her customers and be aware of what is happening in her surroundings. First of all,
when I notice that I have customers sitting in my section, I finish my other chores quickly and
walk to my table. Once I am there, I give them a friendly greeting and ask How are you guys
doing today? so we can have some small talk. This action shows most of my customers that I care
and have interest in them. Of course, everything has exceptions. Some customers do not like it if
their server speaks too much, because they wantto enjoy the peaceful and quiet environment.
Therefore, I will take their drink orders and carefully remember any of their special requests. For
example, drink without ice, drink with extra ice, sweet tea without lemon, etc. I promptly go to
the kitchen to make their drink orders and bring them out as soon as possible. After I deliver
their drinks, I ask them if they would like to start with some appetizers. If they do order
appetizers, I let the chief know as quickly as possible.

Virtue And Justice In The Persian Letters By Montesquieu
The Persian Letters by Montesquieu describe the travels to France done by Persian noblemen,
Uzbec and Rica, in search of wisdom. The letters that they write back to their home in Persia,
discuss the European way of life in comparison to their own culture. Montesquieu uses the two
travelers disorienting view of European culture as a way to criticize aspects of his own nation at
the time. A major conflict in the book is how Uzbec s strong admiration for virtue and justice can
be hypocritical and lead to destructive outcomes. Uzbec s virtue and justice is shown to be
hypocritical through his actions. He goes on a trip to hide from his problems leaving his wives
behind and forcing them to stay virtuous to him. He constantly refers to their virtue... Show more

She is the one who betrayed Uzbec. The wife whose virtue he believed in the most is the one
who had deceived him from the beginning. Yes, I have deceived you; I have bribed your
eunuchs, I have played upon your jealousy, and I have managed to make of your dreadful
seraglio an abode of delights and pleasures (Montesquieu 1973, 212). This declaration showed a

and writes her last letter to Uzbec, And you, who seem born only to deny all your senses and to
resent your very desires, eternal victims of modesty and decorum, why cannot I have you
brought in great numbers to this unhappy seraglio, so that I may witness your terror at all the

in committing suicide is to spite Uzbec. That was a devastating event to happen and yet Uzbec

Mongol Influence On Russia
The unification of the Mongol tribes by Chinggis Khan resulted in a powerful army and a series of
military campaigns that constructed the Mongol Empire. The Mongol Empire, lasting from the
13th to the 14th centuries, exerted considerable political, social, and economic influence on
conquered regions such as Eastern Asia and Russia. For example, as a result of the Mongols
revitalizing long distance trade networks such as the Silk Road, both China and Russia experienced
the exchange of cultures, technologies, and diseases. However, Mongol influence on China quickly
diminished after the collapse of the Mongol Empire whereas the influence of Mongol expansion on
Russia was more consequential and far reaching albeit inadvertently. The Mongol Empire... Show

After Mongol rule over China ended in 1368 CE by rebel forces, the renewal of Confucian values
and a patriarchal social structure in the following Ming Dynasty signifies the refusal by the native
Chinese to assimilate Mongol practices into their native culture. This adamant refusal can be
attributed to discrimination against the Chinese in Mongol law and conflicting ideologies
concerning the role of women and the social status of merchants and artisans. On the other hand,
the impact of Mongol expansion to Russia continued to be influential even after the collapse of the
Mongol Empire. Linguistically, амбар in Russian and амбаар in Mongolian both
translate to barn. Overall, there are thousands of borrowed words, phrases, and other
characteristics from the Mongol and Turkic language that are featured in the Russian language
because of interactions between the two during the Mongol Empire. Moreover, the Golden Horde
s occupation of Eastern Europe inadvertently resulted in the unification and strengthening of
Russia. Prior to Mongol rule, Russia was divided into city states ruled by various independent
princes. A weak economy and the lack of a strong centralized power made it easy for the Mongols
to conquer Russia. However, under Mongol rule, princes attained wealth through siphoning off
taxes as tribute collectors and learned to centralize their power from the Mongols while the
Orthodox Church was able to flourish and rise as a unifying force through tax exemptions. The
Russian state found strength in a common religion and in an allegiance towards a grand prince
later called the Tsar; overthrowing the Mongols. The reason between these differences in China
and Russia is due to different methods of administration. China was mostly governed by foreign
officials, only Mongols were allowed to hold high posts, and the Chinese held little

Flamingo Observation
ABSTRACT On September 6th, 2017 period 6 and 8 of research and experimental science went to
Miami Zoo to observe the flamingo exhibit. The flamingos were watched for about 40 minutes all
together. After gathering the data of the flamingos behavior, the information was processed into
two different charts called followed by table and transition frequency table and then turned into a
kinematic diagram. The diagram shows the transition frequency of how many times the flamingo
that was studied produced a behaviorafter another behavior.
INTRODUCTION
The bird that was watched to gather the data was the flamingo (phoenicopterus), a type of wading
bird. At Miami Zoo they have American flamingos (phoenicopterus ruber) . American flamingos
are normally 3 feet and 6 inches. Their wings have bright pink and white feathers and beneath they
have a black coloring, and their beaks match the rest of their body being white, pink, and black.
Compared to the rest of the flamingos they are the tallest.
When we went to Miami Zoo, we watched the flamingos to collect data on their behavior. Five
behavioral patterns were chosen and carefully examined throughout the watch time. A total of 83
behavioral patterns were recorded on flamingo number 25. Everything was then put in several
charts to be made into a kinematic diagram. We did this to analyze the behavior of flamingos in a
certain time frame.

Observation Of The Eating Observation Assignment
Throughout this course, I have studied and participated in various methods of research. There
were some methods I loved, some that I thought were useful, but they had their limitations, and a
few that I did not particularly enjoy. Let s start one of the methods that I enjoyed the most, direct
observation. I used direct observation for the eating observation assignment. I first thought that I
would be very uncomfortable using this method, but once I was practicing it I did not feel
uncomfortable. I think this method is very useful since people act like themselves when they
believe no one is watching. This allows researches to collect accurate data without the worry that
the data could be skewed. Since my participant did not know that he was being observed, he felt
comfortable is his surroundings to act like himself. I do like this researchmethod and I would use it
again, however there is a down side to the method. Since you cannot talk to you re participants you
then have to make your own conclusions, which may not always be accurate. This problem also
comes up with systematic observation. Systematic observation was a method that I did not
particularly enjoy. I found that there were too many flaws with the method, like the one previously
stated. Another flaw with systematic observation is that the researcher is taking their own
preconceived notions into their research. With systematic observation, one is looking for something
that they believe people to do. The problem with

Transcontinental Railroad Importance

History 102
26 June 2016
The Importance of the Transcontinental Railroad Beginning in the late 1860 s America began to
expand rapidly. With the completion of the transcontinental railroad a journey that once would
take months would now take a mere week to complete (Henretta, Edwards, Self, 476). America as
we know it began to take place. In the early 1860 s major cities in the Eastern portion of the United
States began to grow larger. Increasing numbers in railroads made interconnecting the country
much easier and allowed for expansion to happen quickly. By the 1890 s the United States had
expanded west and a majority of the country we know today was created. The beginning of the

Childhood Parents And Special Education
Introduction/ Problem StatementAs children grow, they are expected to meet milestones along the
way to ensure proper development is taking place. When a child fails to meet the developmental
milestones for their age, interventions are often put into place in efforts to help the child perform
as close to the expectations for his or her age as possible. These early interventions can help rectify
the childs deficiency; but at times, the child may need to receive long term assistance or
accommodation; particularly when entering school. These children can be recommended for
special education. Being placed in special education affords children the opportunity to learn at
their own pace with all the specific support they need. The children s needs are met with guidance,
patience, and scaffolding. Early childhoodparents often have negative perceptions towards special
education; resulting in the delay or impediment of their child receiving services. In this author s
experience as a classroom teacher, approximately half of all the parents whose child was
identified as special needs resisted or delayed their child s participation in services or special
education because of their perceptions towards special education. It is necessary to understand what
contributes to the perceptions in order to provide parents support they need to not only accept, but
embrace their child s needs to ensure the child performs at his or her full potential.

Donaldson s Beowulf Essay
Donaldson s Beowulf
Fate often saves an undoomed man when his courage is good
Beowulf (Donaldson, 12)
The passage that I analyzed spans the action when Beowulf returns to the halls of Heorot after a
harsh battle with Grendel s mother. He returns to king Hrothgar in the great hall of Heorot to say
that he has successfully completed his boast and killed Grendel s mother. Beowulf states that it has
been a very difficult underwater battle and that he has barely escaped with his life, The fight would
have been ended straightway if God had not guarded me (Donaldson, 29). Beowulf mentions this
due to the fact that the sword given to him by Unferth, called Hrunting, was powerless against
Grendel s Mother. Hrunting is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the festivities celebrating Beowulf s victory the King predicts that Beowulf will become
the protector of the Geats until old age takes him and that he will be one of their greatest kings.
Christian and Pagan Elements
(p 28 31)
GRAPH The many references to God in the pages (28 31) of Beowulf reflect Christian beliefs as
opposed to pagan ones. In pagan worship, nature takes the place of God along with the belief
that inanimate objects contain spirits. The Geats would refer to Grendel and his mother as God s
enemy and descendants of Cain. Cain is a biblical reference to the story of Cain and Abel. In this
story, Cain slays his brother Abel and consequently, is banished by God for all of eternity. Because
of his role as the first murderer, Cain is thought to be the father of all monsters.
Another example of Christianity which is evident in Beowulf is the fact that the eye for an eye
belief is practiced. During the second raid of Heorot by Grendel s mother, a very close friend of
King Hrothgar and great warrior named Aeschere is murdered. The monster, not abiding by the
laws of the time, is subject to the eye for an eye belief and then has to be murdered

Argumentative Essay Childcare
14.2 million children under age 13 met federal requirements for child care subsidies in 2011 2012.
Of that number, 8.6 million were eligible under state policies. Yet only 1.5 million children actually
received the subsidies. That means only 10.6 percent of the number of children meeting federal
guidelines actually get the subsidy (Davidson 2017). The question that will be answered throughout
this paper is, how accessible is childcarein the United States? Child care is the care of children by
a day care center, babysitter, or other provider while parent/ parents/ or legal guardian is working.
The median household income for the United States is $53,8895 (Census Bureau) and the average
cost of childcare is between $10,000 and $16,000 (Hamm 2015). This means that childcare can cost
families making the median income 30% of their annual income. Given that this is the median
household income, half of households have an income that is below this costing them more than
30% of their income. The United States has excellent child care that is affordable for some,
however, most low income families are unable to afford it.
Child care is incredibly important for the youth because has been proven to improve children s
development. Early childhood education has a countless number of benefits, including more
equitable long term outcomes for children of diverse economic backgrounds. Additionally, investing
in these benefits early on helps create future workforce, secure long term

College Free Tuition Should Not Be Free
College Free Tuition Education is one of the best ways to succeed; however not everyone has
access to it and not everyone has the opportunity to have a degree. After high school a lot of
students drop out because the college tuitions are too expensive; they can t afford them. A couple
weeks ago, president Obama came with a proposition in which to make community collegefree for
students because more jobs will require a degree in the future. The program will concern the
students who are serious. It means, in order to qualify, the students have to maintain a 2.5 grade
point average C+, and they have to be full time and be able to transfer to a 4 years college. Other
people believe that community collegeshould not be free because of the following reasons; the
program extends the welfare and encourages people to depend on government and not everyone
needs to go to college. A study of the arguments will show that community college education
should be free. According to Linda Conner Lambeck article, The job expectation in the coming
years will require at least an associate s degree are projected to grow twice as fast as jobs
requiring no college experience. The United States needs more college graduates in other to
improve the economy. So making the community college free for students it is one of the best
ways to start growing the economy. If in upcoming years the country doesn t have enough of

The Treatment of Threats
Being attacked by someone does not sit well with most people. This is definitely true for the
Romans and the Han Chinese. They were both subject to barbarian and nomadic invasions. The
treatment of these certain barbarians was not pleasant. Most were either killed, made into slaves,
or joined the army of the civilization that had just conquered them. The ones who chose to attack
them did not do so on an empty stomach. Therefore, the Romans and the Han Chinese did not
treat the barbarians generously. A barbarian refers to a person who is known for being uncivilized.
By definition, barbarian is a term used to describe pastoral nomads, painting them as enemies of
civilization. . . (text, G2). In the case of the Roman Empire, the Persians, Parthians, Sasanians, and
Carthaginians were all considered barbarians along with many other smaller communities that
were not well known to Rome (text 260). The Xiongnu was the Han Chinese main threat to their
land and empire and, therefore, labeled as barbarians. The Romans built their empire around their
military. They were more successful and more efficient in killing other humans than any other
people in their part of the world (text, 262). Having this army, the Romans set out to conquer all
of Italy. As they defeated each territory, the people who lived there were offered Roman
citizenship if they give their services to the military (Dr. Kaz, lecture, 3 25 14). The triumph over
each territory gave the Romans even more military

By using short, choppy sentence structure and weak diction, he seems less of a threat to Othello
and his innocence is enhanced through it. Also, by always using rhetorical questions, he never
does address what it is Othello is talking about. Iago distorts Othello s thoughts and gets him to
think he knows much more than he is telling him about the entire affair. This becomes especially
clear when Othello asks for ocular proof and Iago confirms he has it using statements like I
should be wise; for honesty s a fool and looses that it works for, Act III Scene iii line 378 379,
meaning he should not tell Othello what he knows or it would ruin Iago s reputation. This sets
Othello s suspicions aflame and soon Iago is relaying to him the story about Cassio s dream about
he and Desdemona, and finally, he closes with the handkerchief, the most powerful thing which
Othello held as a sacred gift of love to his wife. He is then completely overcome with jealousy and
scorn for his former lover and friend, wanting death for the both of them. Throughout this passage,
Iago s main techniques of deception include lies, syntax and diction, and hoodwinking Othello into
thinking his way. By quickly averting his conflict with Othello at the start of the scene, he easily

Theft Definition Essay
Criminal Law, 26/04/11, Dr.Filletti
Theft
No definition of the offence of theft; Carrara gives us a definition which has been taken up by our
courts, The malicious taking of an object belonging to others without the owner s consent with the
intent to make gain. This is the definition which our court uses, our law simply creates one
distinction for these offences. The law creates two types of theft: Simple Theft and Aggravated
Theft.
Simple Theft:
First element is contrectazio this is the taking away, this element has 3 schools of thought: 1.

Violence: Manzini writes that violenece doesn t have to be addressed to the victim but against any
other person present during the crime. This is because the fundamental element of aggravation and
applies to all aggravations is that the aggravation must have facilitated the commission of the
crime. This was established in Pulizija vs Emmanuel Testa, Testa was a bus conductor who was
charged with violent indecent assault for having groped an 18 year old s breast on a bus. Was
charged with violent indecent assault aggravated by a public office, the fact alone that he was a
bus conductor, as a public officer. But this position as a public did not facilitate the aggravation
and the court agreed that it did not facilitate the crime. So he couldn t get an aggravation because
he was a public officer.
Our law speaks of bodily harm or threats of bodily harm, there must be real or perceived bodily
harm. What is essential is that this threat must necessarily be an influence on the victim s mind.
Violence can be used against a thing in so far as it instils fear of further harm to one s self. The
violence and the threat has to be such that it instils fear into the victim.
Another form is violenza numerica , more than 2 thieves present themselves. By the term present
themselves they don t need to know they are all there, the victim has to know there are more than
two they need not be in front of the victim. The rule is that you have to be

Following eight rounds of multilateral trade talks since World War II, the Doha Round is the first

This essay will clarify these misconceptions that have impeded the progress of the Doha Round.
Developing Countries Can Benefit From Their Own Reforms A prominent misconception is that
trade liberalisation in rich countries harm the growth of agricultural industries in developing
countries. Essentially, agricultural industries in developing countries suffer due to Europe
depressing the world price while keeping out efficient suppliers such as Brazil and Thailand, and
also it destroys prospects for some of the least developed countries (LDCs) such as Mozambique
(Oxfam, 2002). Import Barriers Discourage Exports Barriers to trade in developing countries can
hinder their economic growth by inducing disincentives to export. Tariffs on imports create a bias
against exports by lowering the domestic relative price of exports, changing wages and rental rates
that are absorbed by the export sector, and increasing the cost of imported intermediate inputs used
by export sectors (Tockarick, 2006). Hence, import protection can function as

An Example Of A And A Neurocognitive Disorders And How...
When studying abnormal psychology, we have learned about a variety of neurodevelopmental
and neurocognitive disorders and how they affect personality and behavior. In this paper I will
discuss an example of both a neurodevelopmental and a neurocognitive disorder. Within each of
these disorders I will provide behavioral criteria, incidence rates, causes and treatments options
for each of the disorders. The first disorder I am going to discuss is the neurodevelopmental
disorder, Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome has always been fascinating to be as to its causes
and its effects on people. Down Syndrome is congenital disorder resulting from a chromosome
defect. Human s have 23 pairs of chromosomes giving us a total of 46 chromosomes. When a
person has Down Syndrome, they have 2 copies of chromosome 21, as opposed to the normal 1
copy of it. People who have Down Syndrome still have 23 pairs of chromosomes but, with an
additional copy of chromosome 21, they have a total of 47 chromosomes. This additional genetic
material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down
syndrome (What is Down Syndrome, 2012). People who have from Down Syndrome will display
both physical and cognitive symptoms ranging from mild to sever depending on the person.
Physical symptoms of people with Down Syndrome can include; low muscle tone, small stature,

Sign Language Is A Complex System Of Communication
There is not movement that does not speak both a language intelligible without instructions
(Mirzoeff 16). Sign Language is a complex system of communication; a language which uses
visual gestures and signs made by one s hands blended with the use of facial expressions, body
positions, and other gestures. Sign Language has played a significant role in deaf and hard of
hearing culture and is the major communication alternative for those whom are deaf or hard of

Sign language started a new culture for the deaf and brought deaf people around the world together.
Sign language is seen as an authentic language therefore, there are many different variations of the

important for Shakespeare to be consistent with his themes, or the plays would lose their meaning

living, Chris Gardner is a salesman who sells bone density scanners. Eventually he figured out
that nobody wanted to buy it because it is a luxury device in the medical business. Sometime in
the beginning of the movie, there is a scene where we see Chris Gardner approaching and trying to
talk to Mr.Twistle. We see a long shotof them both which shows us that they both are dressed in
suits, which means that they both might be office workers. The long shot then drifts and
became a mid shot. The director could have purposely done that to show that Mr.Twistle is in a
hurry and has no time to speak with Chris. Chris Gardner and Mr.Twistle got in the same cab.
While they are in the same taxi together, we see that Chris is talking to Mr.Twistle but the close

Twistle is just playing with a Rubik s cube. We then see an over the shoulder shot which shows
that it could mean that Chris is desperately wanting to talk to Mr.Twistle. Mr.Twistle then says to
Chris I m sorry, this thing is impossible. The extreme close up of Chris s face shows that he is

By grasping these, the differentiation between the two sides and specifically what they believe
must be done moving forward will become very clear.
Pro Choice
There are several sub categories within the moral justification for women having the right to
choose whether to have an abortion or not. These are: the feminist quality of life argument, the
general quality of life argument, the not a person argument, and finally the no duty to sustain
argument. Each one of these examines something that makes those who support a woman s
right to choose tick. The feminist quality of life argument is rooted on the idea that oftentimes
an abortion is the best course of action for a woman in terms of protecting and furthering her
quality of life in all scenarios. The woman tends to be the best one to make the decision to abort
considering she is the key player and knows all of the variables in her life and the potential life
of the fetus. This is one way of examining this argument. Another way to look at it is the fact that
pregnancy is no easy task and has a profound effect on a woman s life. Perhaps a couple had an
accident and now there is a child growing inside of the woman s body that she did not intend to
have. By choosing to have this child, the woman is taking a major risk and agreeing to give up a
large chunk of her time to take care of it and nurture it, something many women would not care to
do. The general quality of

Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Vietnam Analysis
What role does superstition and religion play in war? Explain using evidence from the text.
Superstition and religion serve as emotional anchors for the soldiers, allowing them to have
something to hold onto and to preserve their sanity in the midst of the violence and chaos that is all
around them. An example of such a use for superstition and religionlies in Henry Dobbins and his
girlfriend s pantyhose. Dobbins uses the pantyhose as his good luck charm, which gives him
access to a spiritual world, where things were soft and intimate. He believed firmly and absolutely
in the protective power of the stockings, and while wearing it during several firefights, he comes
out never wounded, never a scratch, which confirms his belief... Show more content on

For example, in the chapter Spin, O Brien explains how it s all relative. You re pinned down in
some filthy hellhole of a paddy, getting your ass delivered to kingdom come, but then for a few
seconds everything goes quiet and you look up and see the sun and a few puffy white clouds,
and the immense serenity flashes against your eyeballs the whole world gets rearranged and
even though you re pinned down by a war you never felt more at peace (O Brien 34). In short,
there are indeed moments of extreme violence in war, but these are sometimes alternated with
moments of peace and tranquility that often occur simultaneously. This fact about the
experience of war may somewhat surprise readers due to it straying away from preconceived
notions of the violence of war. In particular, the feeling of peace during an intense battle may
seem illogical and nonsensical, but in war, nothing needs to make sense; it is all about gut
emotions, which are inherently fickle. In addition, O Brien writes about how boring the war is:
the war was nakedly and aggressively boring. But it was a strange boredom. It was boredom with
a twist, the kind of boredom that caused stomach disorders...you d feel the boredom dripping inside
you like a leaky faucet,

Symbolism In A Prayer For Owen Meany
John Irving s 1989 novel A Prayer for Owen Meany features a decades spanning narrative that
jumps around in time, describing the life and journey of faith of Johnny Wheelwright. John s life is
intertwined with that of his childhood friend Owen Meany, a precocious and strange character
whose effect on John s world can t be understated. Throughout the novel, reoccurring symbols are
used to emphasize the themes of fate, faith, and spirituality. What is interesting about the
symbolism in this novel is how Irving utilizes it. The symbols aren t just there for the reader to
recognize and interpret, they strengthen the overall story. By making one of the major themes fate
(and predestination), Irving makes his use of symbolism a potent facet; every... Show more content

novel is what happened to the fatal foul ball that struck Tabby. Owen denies having taking the
ball and insists that the John s father must have been present at the game and took the ball as a

After a long and grueling eleven hours of school and soccer, laying down on my bed is the best

Varying Habits In Catcher In The Rye
Malnutrition occurs when people refuse to eat or have lost their appetite while lack of sleep
comes from the brain being overstimulated before bedtime. Holden Caulfield from The Catcher
in the Rye shows symptoms of both these health risks. He is unable to sleep when he tries to and
he avoids eating for hours on end. Holden as a teenager, should be getting a significant amount
of sleep and he should be eating a certain amount of food but he isn t getting the nutrients or sleep
his body requires. Holden s sleeping habits are not healthy for his age. While reading about
Holden, there is a realization that his emotional problems are what leads him to possible physical

Adolescents are hungry all the time... especially boys. As Holden is an adolescent he should be
eating most of the time but he doesn t. Holden mentions that he was supposed to be on a diet
consisting of starches to gain weight but he isn t on the diet (Salinger 107). Since teenagers
require more energy than adults they are encouraged to eat starch, Holden just depends on
alcohol. He doesn t eat healthily and he is on the road to self destruction due to his overuse of
alcohol. He s been in New York for quite some time now, but it is hardly stated that he eats,
Holden drinks and smokes more than he eats food. Holden should be more aware of his health.
He knows that he should be on a diet, he acknowledges that he is skinny (Salinger 107) but yet
he refuses to eat. His decision to survive on alcohol may cost him his life if he isn t careful. He
might collapse from the lack of nutrients in the body with no one around to make certain that he

Write An Essay On The Boston Massacre
There was an incident on kings street caused by the British on March 5, 1770, also known as The

This began when a mob of people formed around a British sentry, who claimed to have been
harassed. When British solder got involved they immediately took his side and fired into the

This all began when Britain approved levies on its American settlements to help pay the upholding

Meaningful And Ethical Assessment In Early Childhood
When referring to assessment in the early childhood arena, providing evidence of a child s
learning is vital. In order to provide this, an extensive range of methods are used to identify

level of understanding which meets mandated and accountability conditions. This assignment

persuasive texts. Prior to this, I communicated, observed and documented the interests and
understandings of the children at that point in time, which allowed me to create experiences based
on the child s preferred method of learning. The lesson supported both practical and oral forms of
learning. For further development, in my upcoming field experience I aim to embody a holistic
approach through the teaching and assessing through the child s natural environment, utilizing a
range of resources, strategies and modes whereby no child is marginalized in their learning and

The Public Option
The public option was extraordinarily popular among the liberal democratic base buts its benefits
were regularly overstated. At heart of the challenges of the public option were the solution was a
veil for a government run healthcare plan and the pre text to a single payer solution. If over time
the government plan were cheaper than private insurance it would erode the insurance business and
eventually put them out of business.
Many have argued any public option using the government s power to negotiate would be unfair
competition and ultimately put the private insurers out of business, which is true in theory. The
government gas significant control over the cost of provider services and like what happens with ...

Cultural Differences And Cultural Beliefs Of The Conflict...
In this essay, I will discuss why the conflict between Europeans and Native Americans was
inevitable based on cultural differences and interactions with one another. I will explain why
greed played a major role in the conflict between both groups, based on the information provided
by two authors with differing opinions. The first author, believed that conflict was inevitable.
The author Kevin in his article, Peaceable Kingdom Lost: The Paxton Boys and the Destruction
of Williams Penn s Holy Experiment , describes the conflicts between a group of racists men
known as the Paxton Boys, and the beliefs of a Peaceable Kingdom lead by William Penn. In his
essay, Kevin speaks about how William Penn respected the Indians; however, the Paxton Boys
did not. Kevin points out on: Page 179 states in part, Some of the Paxton boys were squatter,
others farmed small plots of low quality land; all of them hated Indians ... Page 179 Kevin
describes the respect that William Penn had Indians, and how he protected their interest as well as
his own by decreeing the settlers acquire land only through his government... . Page 181 ...violent
seizure of Indian land became the norm. In the three statements above, Kevin describes nothing
but hatred for the Indians. He talked about the massacres that occurred at the hands of the Paxton
Boys. Moreover, Kevin s description of the Paxton Boys led me to believe they were Klu Klux

The Pros And Cons Of Racial Discrimination
As an international student, I was given a great opportunity to pursue a wide range of academic
studies and to experience the world diversity that enriches the promotion of a cultural exchange
amongst students from many different parts of the world. Interactions with different races on a
personal level has allowed me to gain a better understanding about them in person, their values,
and the world; however, until I left home and went abroad as an international student, I, too, was
one of few people who had only seen them in person from a long distance or through social
media. As much as the issue of racial discrimination has been extreme and people s ignorance of
this issue has grown in many countries, I had once denied to accept the difference and created
bias in my personal view and the way I perceived different races. People tend to acquire various
knowledge through individual perception formed simply by seeing what is currently lain in front
of us, as I did. Barack Obama, while campaigning for the presidential nomination at the National
Constitution Center Union in Philadelphia in 2008, delivered his speech about controversial issues
of race that still exist in the history of America (Rai, 646).
The speech titled A More Perfect Union conveys numerous messages regarding Obama s
concerning beliefs of racism. Barack Obama, himself, despite serving as the 44th President of the
United States, had gone through the long and hurtful journey of difficulties in the presence of racial
discrimination having to face the prejudice against the colored skin and a different social and
cultural background. Being colored, preconceptions about him was inevitable even during his
campaign, but his oratory that openly addressed the race which is the sensitive topic that is rarely
discussed or spoken in public, captured great attention allowing him to successfully build his image
as an intelligent and patriotic candidate. Through the speech, Obama not only responds to the
criticisms of his affiliation with his former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who spoke of
controversial and incendiary statements about the divisive racial challenges in America and the
injustice of the country as a nation by questioning the U.S. government,

How Does Margaret Atwood Use Language In Oryx And Crake
Language forms the basis of knowledge upon which people perceive the world around them. In
Margaret Atwood s apocalyptic novel Oryx and Crake, the function of language as a way of
perceiving reality is an underlying concept throughout the story. Snowman who identified as
Jimmy before the apocalypse holds onto the memory of the world that had come to pass through
language which as of the apocalypse is meaningful only to him. Jimmy is an outlier in a society
driven by the scientific method who seeks solace in language and carries on being an outcast under
the guise of Snowman in a post apocalyptic environment. Jimmy is fascinated with language
because it is a part of his identity as Atwood conveys the concept of language as a construct of the
human world and humanity itself whose denigration would result in a dehumanized society.
Snowman s fixation with words that are no longer of any consequence conveys to the reader that

This is demonstrated in the story when Crake ponders on how he would go about explaining
toast to the Crakers: Toast is when you take a piece of bread What is bread? Bread is when take

requires the Crakers to have background knowledge of electricity, flour and the associated
vocabulary. Unable to explain the concept of toast to the Crakers Snowman gives up and ponders
reassigning toast a different meaning: Forget it says Snowman. Let s try again. Toast was a
pointless invention from the Dark Ages (119). Snowman condemns the traditional idea behind toast
to obscurity. To the Crakers toast is whatever Snowman dictates it to be and hence its true meaning
is lost. Snowman holds the power to doom human concepts and ideas through the language and
memories he holds onto as he states: Hang on to the words, he tells himself. The odd words, the
old words, the rare

The Struggle Between Social Class In The Creature And...
The creature and Victor Frankenstein. Similar to how Marxist theory observes the remarkable
struggle between social classes, the interactions between said characters, and their struggles, are put
on display by Shelly. The exchanges between different characters (or social classes) can be
explained by Marx s Communist Manifesto which states that two classes, one being the owners of
production named the bourgeoisieand the workers or the proletariat(Montag 386). In this situation
Victor can be compared to the bourgeoisie while the creation can be represented by the proletariat.
In Frankenstein, a similar dynamic arises within the relationship between Victor and his creation
as a definitive struggle rises between the two characters. After the successful birth of the monster
Victor enjoys the reaps of his labor and establishes his power effectively exerting control over the
lower class or, in this case, his creation. Throughout this evolution, Shelly depicts the relationship
between the monster and Frankenstein with Shelly depicts the Marxist evaluation of capitalism.
Later on, when Victor becomes enslaved by the horror of his creation, similar Marxist theory is
displayed through what is defined as the products of labor. As a result of this, the monster becomes
powerful and rebels against Victor, or his creator, who he describes as incompatible. This power
struggle represents the struggle between the upper and lower classes, or, the bourgeoisie and the
proletariat. At

The Implications Of Alexander The Great s Conquests In Greece
Alexander III of Macedon, typically referred to as Alexander the Great was born in Pella, in July
356 BC, as the son of Phillip II and Queen Olympia. He was under the tutelage of Aristotle until
he attained the age of 16. Following Phillip s assassination in 336 BC, Alexander inherited his
father s throne as the king of the Ancient Greek monarchy of Macedon. Moreover, the military
training that he had received during his tender age prepared him both physically and
psychologically for the history he was to write. He inherited the realm of a mighty kingdom and
a vastly experienced army. Alexander utilized the armory to extend the geographical scope of
the Greek by conquering Persia, parts of India, Egypt, present day Syria, Assyria Babylon and
other parts of minor Asia. Therefore, this essay aims at explaining how Alexander the Great s
Conquest impacted the Greek people. Alexander the Great s Conquests and their Implications
Asia Minor Alexander s army passed the Hellespont in 334BC comprising of an average of
48100 soldiers, 6200 cavalry and 120 ships. The count of the crew in the ships amounted to
38000 people, all drawn from Macedon and other Greek states. Also, soldiers were forcefully
retrieved from Thrace, Illyria and Paionia. This way, the Greek were drawn into Alexander s way
of achieving his ambitions. The pursue o of his conquests was inspired by his love for Greece but

  • 2. The Impact Of Friendship On People s Lives The Impact of Friendship Close social relationships have a dramatic affect on people s lives. Specifically, friendships are amazing in that each one is different yet all friendships share several qualities. Although friendships are a very positive thing to have, they also come with costs. Friendships have always intrigued me, so I found it fascinating to learn about the impact they have and it gave me a new perspective to look at my own friendships. Friendships can be very different from one another but they all have recognizable characteristics. Floyd (2011) defines these characteristics of friendship as voluntary, between peers, governed by rules, differ by sex, and have a lifespan. People become friends with one another out of choice, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These rules can vary from behavior to the feelings one has about their friend. Criticizing a friend behind their back or being dishonest are widely looked down upon. These rules are unchanged by differences in sex but other aspects of the friendship differ. Floyd (2011) states that same sex friends value different aspects of their friendships. Friendships between women tend to emphasize conversation and emotional expressiveness. Men s friendships place more of a focus on shared activities and interests according to Floyd (2011). I personally find this quite accurate to examples in my life. On the other hand, opposite sex friendships are valuable as they allow both men and women to see things from each other s perspectives. Floyd (2011) says that opposite sex friendships allow men to be emotionally expressive and women to partake in shared activities. Many reasons can prevent an opposite sex friendship from becoming a romantic relationship. A lack of physical attraction, wanting to protect an existing friendship, and fear of rejection, are a few of the reasons Floyd (2011) lists. The final characteristic is that friendships have lifespans. An unfortunate reality, but as Floyd (2011) puts it, most friendships are initiated, maintained, and eventually many of them end. Nagging, criticizing, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and hostile behaviors can lead to declining friendships, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Inner City Stereotypes Essay Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian; we all have our thoughts on them. What do I mean you ask? The thoughts that we have already preset for the different races. The assumptions we use to portray a single person or group; are stereotypes. The unreliable generalization about all members of a group that does not recognize individual differences within the group. We will not talk about stereotypes everywhere. Lets narrow the focus down to innercity stereotypes. An inner city is an area inside of a city associated with social and economic problems. Think of Los Angeles, there are multiple neighborhoods inside it; such as Watts, and Compton. Even better think of New York City, some of the neighborhoods include; Brooklyn, Harlem, Queens, and Manhattan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people will have negative views and associates them as a criminal. They will assume that you live in poverty, you are on government assistance, and that you obtain a low level education. These views are forced on us because of the way society has delineate them. For example when we see a news report about a car that has been stolen in the inner city we instantly think a poor raised black man; but why? Well society has told us that if one black man has stolen, then all black men are thieves. On television they advertise welfare and government assistance, but what they show is a poor single parent, who is generally a minority. Society tell us that these stereotypes are what everyone is like, but that is just not the case. I can tell you first hand that the stereotypes about us inner city people are wrong. I say us because I am an inner city born and raised resident. Some people from these parts commit crime therefore it supports the notion and claims of these stereotypes. Why do people get shocked or surprised when a stereotype is wrong? I was raised to never judge a book by it s cover, I understand everyone was not raised like me; everyone claims they do not judge before knowing the facts, which we all know to not be true. Before meeting someone we already have an idea of who they are and where they came ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Legend Of Zelda s Mask What is the most mysterious video game you have ever played? The Legend of Zelda: Majora s Mask is by far the darkest entry in the series (Beast). Majora s Mask, the mysterious pastime that gave its creators nightmares, is not only one of the best participants in the Legend of Zelda series, but also one of the top games of all time. Even though it had a slow start, because Nintendo s rival released the PlayStation 2, a few days after Majora s Mask was released, in spite of this, it still claimed its spot as one of the greatest technological amusements of all time (Luckerson). In the interim, with three days of life left for everyone, Link swiftly solved everyone s problems and re ascended the moon back to space. This three day period is not only an excellent addition to the story, but it is also a great challenge for players. Time steadily passes in the game while you play, with the daylight giving way to the night... (Stratton 14). Each day is 18 minutes long, allowing for a whopping 54 minutes of game time (Mirabella). Accordingly, this added pressure can easily stump beginning players, but for masters of Majora s Mask, time seems to stand still. The developers did not leave players without a remedy for this time limit though; they provided players with the Ocarina of Time. Given to Link by Princess Zelda, this magical instrument calls forth legendary powers to aid Link in his quest (Stratton 21). The most useful way that Link can use the Ocarina of Time is to slow time down, which doubles those precious 54 minutes into 108 stress free minutes. In addition to this, Link can use his Ocarina is to travel back to the dawn of the first day of the story. This allows him another three days to try to save the world again. The Vietnamese victory against the French at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 brought about dramatic changes to Indochina. These changes took place in the Geneva Conference which shortly happened after the battle of Dien Bien Phu. General Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh who were the Vietminh s leader had only one goal and that was to unify Vietnamand declare independence from colonial rule but however their goals were not achieved at the end of the Geneva Conference due to a number of reasons. The Soviets were more concerned about the security situation in Europe while China feared being dragged into another Korea style confrontation against the US in Indochina and therefore pressured the Vietminh to accept the division of Vietnam. The result of the tensions at the conference due to behind the scenes pressures and secret meetings was the Geneva Agreement of 1954. It was a compromise which satisfied nobody. This would soon lead to a second Indochina war due to the involvements of the U.S who sought to spread nationalism and anti communist ideas throughout Vietnam and the Soviet and China who supported the Communist North. The historian Stanley Karnow made a comment that America had a strict desire to not be committed to anything being signed at Geneva because of the fact that US Secretary of State Dulles ordered the US delegation chief, Bedell Smith, to remain aloof and make no concessions to the Communists. Dulles knew, suggests Karnow, that whatever was going to come out of Geneva was going to be unsatisfactory. Although biographies are full of information often times it is impossible to prove them to be true because they aren t written by the person themselves. Linda Colley s The ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh is a great example of an exciting biography that allows us to learn about British Imperial Rule through someone else s eyes. In Linda Colley s The ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh it becomes clear very quickly just how much British Imperial Rule effected Elizabeth s life. Puerto Rico has been a territory of the United States for almost a century. The citizens of Puerto Rico have always had different views on whether they want independence or greater autonomy. The following essay will focus on the commonwealth status of Puerto Rico and the attempted assassination of President Truman. The commonwealth status of Puerto Rico between the 1950 1952 was with limited autonomy since the Island was still under the Sovereignty of the United States (Francesco, C. Eugene, 1999). The United States annexed Puerto Rico following the end of the Spanish American War. For almost a century Puerto Rico has been under the influence of the United States. The constitutional convention of 1952 gave Puerto Rico the right to form a republican government. The citizens of Puerto Rico were not satisfied with the current status. For instance, under the commonwealth status, Puerto Ricans could not exercise their political rights. While they were considered the United States citizens, they could participate in the voting exercise in the United States. The Island has no representation in the Electoral College, which means that none of the citizens can take part in the presidential elections. By being a successful waitress I am not only getting excellent tips, but I am also making my customers remember my service. I enjoy the time I spend talking with my customers and taking care of them. I meet a lot of interesting people since I have started working at the restaurant. In order to become a successful waitress, a waitress has to take goodcare of her customers and be aware of what is happening in her surroundings. First of all, when I notice that I have customers sitting in my section, I finish my other chores quickly and walk to my table. Once I am there, I give them a friendly greeting and ask How are you guys doing today? so we can have some small talk. This action shows most of my customers that I care and have interest in them. Of course, everything has exceptions. Some customers do not like it if their server speaks too much, because they wantto enjoy the peaceful and quiet environment. Therefore, I will take their drink orders and carefully remember any of their special requests. For example, drink without ice, drink with extra ice, sweet tea without lemon, etc. I promptly go to the kitchen to make their drink orders and bring them out as soon as possible. After I deliver their drinks, I ask them if they would like to start with some appetizers. If they do order appetizers, I let the chief know as quickly as possible. ... • 13. Virtue And Justice In The Persian Letters By Montesquieu The Persian Letters by Montesquieu describe the travels to France done by Persian noblemen, Uzbec and Rica, in search of wisdom. The letters that they write back to their home in Persia, discuss the European way of life in comparison to their own culture. Montesquieu uses the two travelers disorienting view of European culture as a way to criticize aspects of his own nation at the time. A major conflict in the book is how Uzbec s strong admiration for virtue and justice can be hypocritical and lead to destructive outcomes. Uzbec s virtue and justice is shown to be hypocritical through his actions. He goes on a trip to hide from his problems leaving his wives behind and forcing them to stay virtuous to him. Yes, I have deceived you; I have bribed your eunuchs, I have played upon your jealousy, and I have managed to make of your dreadful seraglio an abode of delights and pleasures (Montesquieu 1973, 212). The Mongol Empire, lasting from the 13th to the 14th centuries, exerted considerable political, social, and economic influence on conquered regions such as Eastern Asia and Russia. For example, as a result of the Mongols revitalizing long distance trade networks such as the Silk Road, both China and Russia experienced the exchange of cultures, technologies, and diseases. After Mongol rule over China ended in 1368 CE by rebel forces, the renewal of Confucian values and a patriarchal social structure in the following Ming Dynasty signifies the refusal by the native Chinese to assimilate Mongol practices into their native culture. This adamant refusal can be attributed to discrimination against the Chinese in Mongol law and conflicting ideologies concerning the role of women and the social status of merchants and artisans. On the other hand, the impact of Mongol expansion to Russia continued to be influential even after the collapse of the Mongol Empire. Linguistically, амбар in Russian and амбаар in Mongolian both translate to barn. Overall, there are thousands of borrowed words, phrases, and other characteristics from the Mongol and Turkic language that are featured in the Russian language because of interactions between the two during the Mongol Empire. Moreover, the Golden Horde s occupation of Eastern Europe inadvertently resulted in the unification and strengthening of Russia. Prior to Mongol rule, Russia was divided into city states ruled by various independent princes. A weak economy and the lack of a strong centralized power made it easy for the Mongols to conquer Russia. However, under Mongol rule, princes attained wealth through siphoning off taxes as tribute collectors and learned to centralize their power from the Mongols while the Orthodox Church was able to flourish and rise as a unifying force through tax exemptions. The Russian state found strength in a common religion and in an allegiance towards a grand prince later called the Tsar; overthrowing the Mongols. There were some methods I loved, some that I thought were useful, but they had their limitations, and a few that I did not particularly enjoy. Let s start one of the methods that I enjoyed the most, direct observation. I used direct observation for the eating observation assignment. I first thought that I would be very uncomfortable using this method, but once I was practicing it I did not feel uncomfortable. I think this method is very useful since people act like themselves when they believe no one is watching. This allows researches to collect accurate data without the worry that the data could be skewed. Since my participant did not know that he was being observed, he felt comfortable is his surroundings to act like himself. I do like this researchmethod and I would use it again, however there is a down side to the method. Since you cannot talk to you re participants you then have to make your own conclusions, which may not always be accurate. This problem also comes up with systematic observation. Systematic observation was a method that I did not particularly enjoy. I found that there were too many flaws with the method, like the one previously stated. Another flaw with systematic observation is that the researcher is taking their own preconceived notions into their research. With systematic observation, one is looking for something that they believe people to do. The problem with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When a child fails to meet the developmental milestones for their age, interventions are often put into place in efforts to help the child perform as close to the expectations for his or her age as possible. These early interventions can help rectify the childs deficiency; but at times, the child may need to receive long term assistance or accommodation; particularly when entering school. These children can be recommended for special education. Being placed in special education affords children the opportunity to learn at their own pace with all the specific support they need. The children s needs are met with guidance, patience, and scaffolding. Early childhoodparents often have negative perceptions towards special education; resulting in the delay or impediment of their child receiving services. Most were either killed, made into slaves, or joined the army of the civilization that had just conquered them. The ones who chose to attack them did not do so on an empty stomach. Therefore, the Romans and the Han Chinese did not treat the barbarians generously. A barbarian refers to a person who is known for being uncivilized. This was established in Pulizija vs Emmanuel Testa, Testa was a bus conductor who was charged with violent indecent assault for having groped an 18 year old s breast on a bus. Was charged with violent indecent assault aggravated by a public office, the fact alone that he was a bus conductor, as a public officer. But this position as a public did not facilitate the aggravation and the court agreed that it did not facilitate the crime. So he couldn t get an aggravation because he was a public officer. Our law speaks of bodily harm or threats of bodily harm, there must be real or perceived bodily harm. What is essential is that this threat must necessarily be an influence on the victim s mind. Violence can be used against a thing in so far as it instils fear of further harm to one s self. The violence and the threat has to be such that it instils fear into the victim. Another form is violenza numerica , more than 2 thieves present themselves. By the term present themselves they don t need to know they are all there, the victim has to know there are more than two they need not be in front of the victim. The rule is that you have to be ... The Latest Cycle Of Trade Negotiations Introduction The Doha Development Agenda, referred to as the Doha Round, is the latest cycle of trade negotiations among World Trade Organization member governments and was officially launched at the WTO s Fourth Ministerial Conference in Doha, Qatar, in November 2011. Following eight rounds of multilateral trade talks since World War II, the Doha Round is the first that is explicitly geared toward facilitating the induction of developing countries into the global market and effectuating economic growth as a result. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay will clarify these misconceptions that have impeded the progress of the Doha Round. Developing Countries Can Benefit From Their Own Reforms A prominent misconception is that trade liberalisation in rich countries harm the growth of agricultural industries in developing countries. Essentially, agricultural industries in developing countries suffer due to Europe depressing the world price while keeping out efficient suppliers such as Brazil and Thailand, and also it destroys prospects for some of the least developed countries (LDCs) such as Mozambique (Oxfam, 2002). Import Barriers Discourage Exports Barriers to trade in developing countries can hinder their economic growth by inducing disincentives to export. Tariffs on imports create a bias against exports by lowering the domestic relative price of exports, changing wages and rental rates that are absorbed by the export sector, and increasing the cost of imported intermediate inputs used by export sectors (Tockarick, 2006). Hence, import protection can function as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When studying abnormal psychology, we have learned about a variety of neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive disorders and how they affect personality and behavior. In this paper I will discuss an example of both a neurodevelopmental and a neurocognitive disorder. Within each of these disorders I will provide behavioral criteria, incidence rates, causes and treatments options for each of the disorders. The first disorder I am going to discuss is the neurodevelopmental disorder, Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome has always been fascinating to be as to its causes and its effects on people. Down Syndrome is congenital disorder resulting from a chromosome defect. Human s have 23 pairs of chromosomes giving us a total of 46 chromosomes. When a person has Down Syndrome, they have 2 copies of chromosome 21, as opposed to the normal 1 copy of it. People who have Down Syndrome still have 23 pairs of chromosomes but, with an additional copy of chromosome 21, they have a total of 47 chromosomes. This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome (What is Down Syndrome, 2012). People who have from Down Syndrome will display both physical and cognitive symptoms ranging from mild to sever depending on the person. Physical symptoms of people with Down Syndrome can include; low muscle tone, small stature, flattened facial profile, wide hands with short fingers, and an upward slant in eyes. By grasping these, the differentiation between the two sides and specifically what they believe must be done moving forward will become very clear. Pro Choice There are several sub categories within the moral justification for women having the right to choose whether to have an abortion or not. These are: the feminist quality of life argument, the general quality of life argument, the not a person argument, and finally the no duty to sustain argument. Each one of these examines something that makes those who support a woman s right to choose tick. The feminist quality of life argument is rooted on the idea that oftentimes an abortion is the best course of action for a woman in terms of protecting and furthering her quality of life in all scenarios. The woman tends to be the best one to make the decision to abort considering she is the key player and knows all of the variables in her life and the potential life of the fetus. This is one way of examining this argument. Another way to look at it is the fact that pregnancy is no easy task and has a profound effect on a woman s life. Perhaps a couple had an accident and now there is a child growing inside of the woman s body that she did not intend to have. By choosing to have this child, the woman is taking a major risk and agreeing to give up a large chunk of her time to take care of it and nurture it, something many women would not care to do.
