Forms Of Power In Fresco Of Six Kings And Naked Woman
We still live in a patriarchal society. 60 years has passed since the strenuous movement of the
feminists, but the male dominant power toward female has not changed. The word of John Berger
who is famous for Ways of Seeing indicate this power relation. Men act and women appear. Men
look at women (25). The same relation is prevailing when we gazeat an image. Two images
collided in this essay both possesses forms of power in different representations. Fresco of Six
Kings and Naked Woman, a mural painted in the changing room of Jordan s Qasr Amra depicts
figures of maleand female in total contrast. Built in 705 in the middle of a dessert, it functioned
as a retreating space only allowed for the privileged. The inner wall of this architecture is
lavishly decorated with figures symbolizing power of the region. The left space of the fresco is
filled blue with 6 figures standing inside it. They are well dressed in luxurious robes decorated
carefully with fine patterns. Patterned fabrics expend larger energy to be produced thus resulting
in higher price. Also, the representation of the robe corresponds to the costume of Byzantine
emperor from 5 to 6th Century. Therefore those 6 figures could be assumed as the wealthy class
and one of them as the emperor. In contrast to these clad men, the woman on the right stands alone
in a pool of water very scantly clothed. But as seen closely, the viewer could notice that she is not
standing alone in the picture plane. On her left side,

Indigo Indian Bistro is widely considered the best Indian cuisine in New York City. But what
makes its mango lassi, tikka masala, and samosa dishes so irresistible? The answer according to
The Washington Post is contrast of flavors. In Western culture, science says that people are drawn
to dishes that incorporate ingredients with similar flavor profiles. However, Indian food is the
opposite.

Themes In Romeo And Juliet
LIGHTNESS/DARKNESS AND THE SUN/THE MOON
Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth. Buddha.
The tragic story of the two star crossed lovers, tells a tale with multiple different themes, but the
most vital one that plays throughout the whole play, is the sun and moon and how Romeo and Juliet
are associated and get affected by it. As the sun rises, the bright lights cast its shines onto good
and peaceful times, which is why Juliet is depicted by the sun (As she is perceived as peaceful,
obedient, and righteous). Although, the brightness of the day does not last long until nightfall
happens and creates terror and issues for the days to comes. Where Romeo and Juliet, have their
end set at the start. Subsequently, when the moon is present in the sky and the time states it is the
night, it is the only time where Romeo and Juliet can be together without the distraction of the
outside world. Consequently, the decisions they make at night, are not bright and causes eternal
darkness for the two lovers. Furthermore, the moon alike Romeo, as he surrounds himself in
darkness and Romeo initiates contacts with Juliet every night causing bad things to happen later
on. To expand, he also gets dreams which are very close to the truth and foreshadows the ending
of the story. To add on, as Juliet is the sun, he can never be with her as he is the opposite; the
moon, which is proven by the calamitous ending. To conclude, the lightness of the day shows the
brightness

Changes In Emma s Economic Development
There are many changes and continuities that have taken place since Emma s birth in 2001.
Throughout this period, there have been economic and political changes that have occurred and
continuities as well. Her economic development has changed in that she has a source of income
by a casual occupation and has stayed the same in that she is still living under her parents who
fund her for many things. Her political development has changed in that she has developed her

Difficulties In The Outsiders
Many teens today face many difficulties similar to the teens in the novel The Outsiders in their
everyday life. It can be very hard for teens and some adults don t do enough to help them. Three
of the many difficulties teens today and teens in The Outsiders are lack of sleep, mental abuse,
and relationships. Every teenager have problems, not just one and adults aren t doing enough to
help these teens to get through them. Many teens struggle with lack of sleep due to having a
tremendous amount of homework. Homework is one of the main things that lead to teenage
stress. It keeps kids from doing what they enjoy and what interests them, they end up staying up
all night trying to finish. Various teens also have to do sports or after school activities. Although,
these activities are fun it takes up a lot of their time. While combining homework and sports
leaves no time for friends to come over and hangout. Now the last thing is texting with friends or
also known as gossip. Teens love to gossip so after they get all of their homework done they go to

A Letter From Birmingham Jail Analysis
Birmingham, Alabama during the 1960 s was experiencing a time of high racial tension and
injustice for African Americans. Blacks were only allowed to sit in specific areas in buses and
restaurants, and they had separate water fountains, churches, schools, and other public gathering
areas. In 1963, the African Americandemonstrators began sitting in at lunch counters that had not
served blacks before and picketed stores that did not allow blacks to shop in them. Soon after,
African Americans began getting arrested for trespassing. The civil rights leaders applied for
permits to picket and parade but were denied, and this sparked the thought that the law prohibiting
African Americans to picket and parade was unjust and they decided to disobey it. This led to
certain opinions about the Civil Rights Movement to arise and become public. Eight Alabama white
clergymen, who represented various churches, wrote A Call for Unity: A Letter from Eight White
Clergymen in response to the protests that had broken out across Birmingham ( Unity ). Martin
Luther King Jr. was arrested and sent to jail in 1963 because he and others were protesting the
treatment of African Americans. He went on to write A Letter from Birmingham Jail
as he waited,
hunched over, in his jail cell ( Birmingham ). Both the clergymen and Dr. King used the art of
argument to try to persuade people to believe their views on the issue. Unity and Birmingham are
fitting examples of how writers with very different

The Conflict Between Israel And Palestinian Refugees
Going after their independence, Israel was looking for the support of big and powerful countries,
and the cooperation of the surrounding states. Unfortunately, the Israeli independence movement
did not turn out to be so easy. As the surrounding Arab nations began to get angry with the
preferential treatment of the British, tensions rose between Israeland the Palestinians. Consequently,
because of the superior army and the support behind Israel, the wars resulted in an abundance of
Palestinian refugees that still struggle to establish their own state today. Through many efforts and
support systems, international aid has been offered to the Palestinian refugees, but as proven by the
millions of refugees that still live in the UNRWA camps today, none of these tactics have worked.
Although international organizations were ineffective in solving the conflict between Israel and
the Palestinian refugees, the establishment of an Arab state early on would have prevented a future
humanitarian crisis; demonstrating the preferential treatment within foreign intervention.
Leading up to the wars between Israel and the Arabs, Israel was getting favorable treatment from
the British, as Palestinians were left to fight against the odds. If this one sided contract and way of
thinking had not existed, both the Arabs and the Jews would have been satisfied. In the late 19th
century, there was a rise of Zionism among the Jewish people, in effort to return the Jews to their
homeland and resume

Dorothy Of The White House
Dorothy Day grew up without a Catholic background, but had a strong will for social justice. She
was a natural pacifist which she expressed even before converting to Catholicism. She worked for
the Call which encouraged her picketing and strikes against social injustices. (57) Later, Dorothy
also protested with women against suffragists in front of the White House and was arrested.
During her time in prison, she got involved with a hunger strike which caused the demands to be
met. (82) She had a strong will for the fairness of others.
Dorothy had lived in an apartment in Chicago for a short time. She became acquainted with
Catholicism in a couple she had met there. After analyzing them, she realized they are not lonely
like she is because they are Catholic. They have a God to love and pray to. (106) Dorothy began
to gain Catholic faith while she was in a common law marriage with an atheist anarchist named
Forster. He disagreed with and discouraged her faith, but this didn t stop her. She found out she was
pregnant with his child and wanted to baptize her in the Catholic church after she was born and
later got herself baptized after working hard to learn religion. Forster left her for this. She chose
God over man by this point. (140) This showed how important her faith was in her life. The Great
Depression began and Dorothy s awareness of the need for Catholic stance grew. It was a time for
pressure groups, for direct action, and radicalism was thriving among all groups

Video Games and Sociological Theory Essay
Video Games and Sociological Theory
July 22, 2012
Video games have become as pervasive an aspect of our society as television, with many people
spending more time playing video games than watching television. There are many perspectives
with which to gauge videos games effect on society, from a functionalist, conflict or interactionist
perspective. (Schaefer, 2011) Each of these sociological theories can provide a different view of
video games, how they affect society and the subcultures that develop around them.
The functionalist perspective would emphasize the way in which the parts of a society are
structured to maintain its stability. (Schaefer, 2011) A functionalist may point out the manifest
functions of video games as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A more in depth study may look at video games from a Marxist point of view, characterizing the
games as a modern day opiate of the masses with multi billion dollar corporations publishing the
games to keep the proletariat occupied and oblivious to their plights. A feminist may cite the
standard role of female video game characters as being the damsel in distress and even strong
female characters usually being relegated to sex symbol status.
An interactionist would study the effect of videos games on individuals, rather than on society as
a whole. (Schaefer, 2011) Some things they may study would be any influence the games have on
a behavior of a person. Another interactionist aspect would be the effect on families, where, like
many things, video games can bring a family together or alienate members. Online multiplayer
games now can also allow people to interact with other players from all over the world, being
exposed to people and aspects of culture they may never have encountered otherwise. The
interactionist may also look at gaming clans, and how the interaction of members affects daily life
outside of video games.
The sociological interpretations of video games are almost as numerous as the games themselves,
and like many aspects of our society can be harmful or beneficial depending on how they are
utilized by an

Importance Of Tidal Energy
Electricity Culminating
Renewable Energy Project

A. Cook
December 17, 2017
Why should tidal energy be a common renewable energy source in the future?
Tidal energy is a form of hydroelectricity that is provided from the rise and fall of tides. Due to the
Moon s gravitational force, bodies of water rise and fall, the force created can be turned into a form
of renewable energy. Tidal power was first introduced in the 19th century in U.S and Europe. In
1966, the Rance Tidal Power Station, was operated in France, being the first large scale tidal
system. Tidal energy is more predictable than solar panels and wind turbines. The sun isn t always
out to provide light and the wind depends on the weather. Tides are almost always there and the
ocean is more understood than the temperature or the sun. Tidal energy is much more reliable and
renewable than other sources such as fossil fuels which cause acid rain, and nuclear power and its
radiation. Since the ocean is much denser than air, tidal turbines generate more electricity and
therefore are more efficient compared to wind turbines. Hydro power in general is considered more
efficient and converts the most energy to electricity than other renewable energy sources.
Tidal power is also inexpensive compared to other renewable energy sources as shown below in
this chart.
Tidal power plants also have a very long lifespan. The oldest plant, La Rance, in

The Case Of A Prayer For Owen Meany By John Irving
The American Dream throughout the Century
White picket fences, rows of houses that are carbon copies of each other, and the perfect family
who owned all of this. For years, it was said that this was the true ideal to be met. The long sought
after American Dream has been apart of this nation for decades and continues to change as the
times do. In the case of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, the author incorporates both the
American Dream from the 1950s and 1960s, but also today s take on the subject.
To thoroughly understand the differences between the American Dream of the 20th century and
today, one must first look at the historical events that took place while keeping in mind what is

In various other news articles, it is reported that diplomats from not only South Korea, but China are
brokering agreements with the United States in hopes of avoiding the war. For years, war with
North Korea has been suggested, forgotten, and reevaluated. In 2017, it seems there is growing
tension and Americans are not prepared for what could happen if the war was to begin. There is
no patriotism in this case, no one is ready to go to war with North Korea. This would not be a
war that the men and women of the country would fight; it would be with nuclear weapons and
the push of a few buttons. In Irving s book, there is something to be fought for the protection of a
country from the evil grasp of Communism. In the case of North Korea, there is only an angry
leader who has harboured hatred towards the United States for years. In summary, the American
dream currently is not to go to war for the sake of fighting, the people need something to fight for in
order to justify their personal American Dream.
More important than the historical events are the people involved in creating their dreams. In A

Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, A Jewish Scholar, Astrologer And...
Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, commonly known as Maimonides or by the acronym RaMBaM, was a
Jewish scholar, astrologer and physician of the twelfth century considered to be one of Judaism s
greatest sages. His revolutionary publications were essential in the development of the Shulchan
Aruch, the practiced Code of Jewish Law and maintaining Jewish continuity throughout the ages.
Maimonideswas born in 1135 in Cordoba, Spain to his mother and father, Rabbi Maimon, and
would go on to study medicine and philosophy in unison with his religious studies.
From a young age, Maimonides father mentored him in the teachings of the Talmud, Torah, Jewish
philosophy and secular sciences. His education in these areas would eventually fuel his writings. In
1148, when Maimonides was just 13, a Sunni Muslim Caliphate movement called the Almohades
invaded Southern Spain, and he and his family were forced to flee their hometown.
The Almohades invasion marked the end of the Golden Age of Jewish culture in Spain, where
although Jews were not fist class citizens, they lived free of persecution and were able to conduct
businesses and lead relatively peaceful lives. The Almohades invasion put great pressure on its
Jewish inhabitants, posing a serious threat to Jewish continuity. Many religious institutions
dissolved, including synagogues and yeshivas, and Sharia Law now dictated everyday life for
Christians and Jews of Spain. Non Muslims were given the choice to convert to Islam or die or else

Genocide In The Ottoman Empire
The events of World War I in the Ottoman Empire, where approximately two million Christian
inhabitants were killed or disappeared traceless, are usually described as the 1915 genocide or the
Armenian genocide since the Armenians constituted up to 1.5 million of these victims. The
genocide practically emptied the Ottoman Empireand current Turkey from its Christian population,
leaving an almost entirely Muslim/Turkish Turkey. Genocideis considered to have been intended as
a solution to the Armenian Question, but also other minorities in the Ottoman Turkey, mainly
Christian Assyrians/Syrians/Chaldeans and Greeks suffered as well.
The massacres were an attempt to create a new homogenous Turkish state. The former ethnic and
religious diversity that characterized the Ottoman Empire, had in the accelerating decomposition of
the empire from early 1800s, disappeared, namely when the Christian nations in the Balkans began
to free themselves and proclaim independence. This made the Ottoman Empire, from being multi
religious, now converted to a virtually Muslim empire. It did not take long until the Arabs of North

Jane Eyre And Great Expectations
Jane Eyre Great Expectations Comparative Essay
The novels Jane Eyre and Great Expectations both take place in a capitalist society. Marx s
fundamental ideas are prevalent in both novels. Karl Marx is a German philosopher who
challenged capitalism with the creation of communism. Marx s most essential and recognized
beliefs are that class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart
of the society. He also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he
describes as putting self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane
questions other characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations,
characters challenge Pip on his Marxist beliefs. Therefore, throughout the use of interclass
relationships, classism and rugged individualism, readers are able to observe how Jane challenges
others Marxist beliefs and other characters challenge Pip s Marxist beliefs.
In the novel Jane Eyre, we re able to see how interclass relationships of all kinds were frowned
upon within society. Jane is in love with her master, Mr. Rochester who comes from a much higher
social class than her. though rank and wealth sever us widely, I have something in my brain and

that class struggle is at the heart of society is evident because the class differences between Jane

Ambrose is a skilled writer and he relied heavily on the journals kept by the Corp of Discovery
and his own vast knowledge of the subject to tell the story and be as historically accurate as
possible. One would think this combination would produce an epic tale impossible to put down.
This was not the case for me. I found the book to be a chore to read. It seemed to be too wordy.
He would give long detailed descriptions of conversations and events when a simpler one would
do. I also believe it tended to read as a text book or journal rather than a novel. Every third
paragraph begins with a date as if it were a diary or timeline. There was little continuity to the
storyline. Once these flaws are recognized another becomes apparent, its incredible size. It is a
voluminous text of almost five hundred pages! This is another example of how his attention to
detail might have worked against him. The story could have been told in much fewer pages and
reading the story might not have been so fatiguing. Another problem I had with the book is that he
used the period s correct vernacular so any quotes or dialogue are in this flowery poetic style
which does not lend itself to readability. At times, it was like reading Shakespeare. I think perhaps

The Death Of A Nurse
The Josie King story is truly unimaginable. I wish I could review her chart to better understand
how she fell through the cracks. It seems hard to believe that the signs of increasing dehydration
went unnoticed or even worse, were viewed as normal . Even more difficult to believe is that the
nurses were unable to create a partnership with the mother. In the story, it seems as if the mom was
dismissed as a partner in the process and felt as if no one was listening to her. Although a family
member may not have the medical knowledge a nursehas, they have knowledge of their child and
that is lost without their help. What would have happened if the nurse spent a moment to
understand where Josie s mother was coming from or called the doctor to communicate her
symptoms? Did she truly believe her symptoms were normal or was she too busy with
something else? It shouldn t be possible to have a child be NPO without IV fluids running.
While it takes children a long time to stop compensating, I m sure there were signs of
dehydration. During a bath, the mom notes how furiously Josie was sucking on a wet washcloth.
If it was known that she was not drinking, how could these signs have been missed? It seems as
though a total breakdown in obvious behavior and team communication is evident. The care
delivery model failed to keep Josie safe. The nurse or team assigned seemed to lack knowledge of
symptoms and the skill sets present did not work to make up for another team members deficits.

The incident about the death of a customer and the owner himself who consumed milk teas from a
stall called ErgoCha has circulated the news and has spread all over the country. According to some
articles, the customers said that the milk tea from the said stall along Bustillos Street in Sampaloc,

It can be used in many applications such as making paper and extracting gold. However, it can be
also be fatal to the human body. Concretely, cyanidepoisoning can bring abnormalities like seizures
up to cardiac arrests. The chemical compound is generally reactive, and can kill people in minutes.
In this research, the properties and effects will be discussed through definition and previous
applications involving the topic.
II.Presentation of Research
Definition
Cyanide is relatively every chemical compound that has monovalent combining cyano group. CN
group is made out of a carbon atom triple bonded to a nitrogen atom. This chemical compound is
monovalent since it is able to form only one covalent bond.
A cyanide molecule also has a strong tendency to bind with other atoms or compounds, yielding a
variety of different products. The type of atom or compound to which the cyanide molecule bonds
determines the properties and toxicity of the resulting product.
There are two kinds of cyanide: organic and inorganic. Organic cyanides are typically called
nitriles. Here, the CN group is linked by a covalent bond to a carbon containing group. Inorganic
cyanide on the other hand is a negatively charged polyatomic ion. These kinds of cyanide are
considered as the salts of hydrocyanic acid which are highly toxic.

Impacts On Corporate Strategy For The St. Joe Company
Impacts on corporate strategy for the St. Joe Company
The St. Joe Company has many sociocultural, technological, economic, environmental, and political
legal forces that impact the corporation s strategy and implementation. Sociocultural forces are
described by demographic changes, consumer attitudes, and product demand (Albright, 2004).
Technological forces are advances in technology in a particular industry that influences business
efficiencies (Albright, 2004). Economic forces can come from local, national, and federal
economies, such as unemployment (Albright, 2004). Environmental forces are those that affect

Divine Intervention In The Odyssey
Using divine intervention details, epic similes, and descriptive epithets, Homer the author of The
Odyssey, in Book VI elaborates on the idea that the Gods hand out fortune and pain to mortals,
primarily seen through the help Odysseus received in his successful odyssey home. The power of
the Greek Gods and Goddess is limitless as their powers are supernatural and can control the fate
of mortals. Divine intervention is used by Homer to emphasize how Odysseus, without the Gods
and Goddess help, would not have made it far into his journey back home to Ithaka. An example in
The Odysseywhere divine intervention is used, was when Odysseus came by all the girls on the
Phaeacian island, and only Alkinoos daughter stood her ground, being given a bold heart by Athena
... (Homer VI. 149 151). Athena had an abound of respect for Odysseus and Odysseus needed
help from Nausicaa, who was the daughter of the king of the island Odysseus was marooned. So,
Athena used her goddess powers to make Nausikaa stay put when Odysseus came by so she
could help him. If, Athena had not planted Nausicaa into the ground, then Nausicaa might not
have ever helped Odysseus. Moreover, Athena was highly fond of Odysseus and again helped
him by placing, a single branch of Olive whose leaves might shield him in his nakedness, as he
approached the ladies on the Phaeacian island (Homer VI. 139 138). The olive tree is a symbol of
Athena and Athena was once again assisting Odysseus. Furthermore, by Athena

The Importance Of Indoor Air Pollution
Julia Henderson

Project
Indoor air quality at Stanwich is important for the health and comfort of teachers and students.
Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There
are many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning
sprays, furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin
irritation and headaches.
An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms.
Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants
even without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause
indoor air pollution problems.
What Causes of Indoor Air Problems
The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air.
Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the
class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. Also, indoor air pollution is not carried out of
the class area. High classroom temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of
some pollutants.
Pollutant Sources
There are many sources of indoor air pollution. These can include:
Building materials and furnishings as diverse as:
Deteriorated asbestos containing insulation
Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet

Character Sketch Of The Character Of Miss Maudie
Take a moment to think about the quintessential Favorite Aunt. What makes her the favorite? Does
she have a loud mouth and a strong will? Does she watch out for you no matter what? In To Kill a
Mockingbird, Harper Lee works hard to paint Miss Maudie Atkinson (Miss Maudie) in a perfectly
flawed manner. From the beginning when her house burns down, through the Tom Robinson trial,
and all the way to the end, Beautifully stubborn and fearlessly caring are two of the character traits
that define MissMaudie Atkinson (Miss Maudie) throughout the novel. Miss Maudie bases her
way of life on her beliefs, and in her beliefs she does not waver. One of the very first things we
learn about her is that she loves to garden. We also quickly learn that she is a Christian.
However, when the Baptists come by her house and tell her she s going to hell for gardening,
she does not stop. Gardening is something she loves, and she believes doing what you love
makes God happy. She doesn t care if the Baptists think she s damned, she is going to do what
she thinks is right. The unwavering persistence in her beliefs established early in the novel sets
the stage for further acts of nonconformity, such as her opposition to watching the trial of Tom
Robinson. When asked is she is going to the trial, she simply states, I am not. t s morbid, watching
a poor devil on trial for his life. Look at all those folks, it s like a Roman Carnival (159). Miss

How Did Darwin Contribute To Evolution
Long before Charles Darwin, other people made important contributions to the historical
development of the theory of evolution. It all started in 5th century BC when early Greek
philosophers characterized the origin of the natural world as by the power of nature rather than by
supernatural force. They proposed the theory of evolutionto explain the basis of the natural world.
Thus, evolutionary theory began with the Ionian philosopher Anaximander (611 546 BC) who
proposed living beings gradually developed from water and that humans originated from animals.
He proposed the world had arisen from an undifferentiated, indeterminate substance. In the 6th
century BC, Xenophanes (570475 BC) developed Anaximander s theories by using fossils as...

Its philosophy was dedicated to unveiling God s plan by studying his creation. Species were
individually created and designed by God for a purpose. This popular doctrine of a fixed,
permanent and unchanging species overruled suggested ideas of evolution. Natural theologian
Carolus Linnaeus (1701 1778) was the Father of Taxonomy and he developed the two part system
(genus and species) of naming organisms and grouping species into a hierarchy. He firmly
believed that species were permanent and dedicated his life to classifying organisms to reveal the
plan of God s creation.
Through greater knowledge of the natural world, discoveries in the geological sciences greatly
contributed to making Darwin s theory of evolution possible. French geologist Buffon (1707 1778)
came to recognize that sedimentary rocks were laid down at different times suggesting the age of
the earth. French zoologist and paleontologist Georges Cuvier (1769 1832) documented the
succession of fossil species, noting the progressiveness of the fossil record however, he was
opposed to evolution and argued that boundaries between organisms from different strata were
cause by past catastrophic events (catastrophism). Uniformitarian, Charles Lyell (1797 1875)
suggested that various geological formations on Earth resulted from the cumulative effects of slow
but continuous processes over long expanses of time confirming that slow gradual changes over
expansive amounts of time can yield substantial

The Death Of Benny Paret Rhetorical Analysis
In Mailer s essay, The Death of Benny Paret , he explains his opinion on the integrity of boxing as

the strength of each fighter and the fierce competition of boxing.
Mailer seemed fascinated by the different techniques each fighter used in order to try and win the
fight. Paret had an unusual ability to take a punch . Griffith had a more traditional approach to
boxing, getting in the most hits as possible. Griffith won most of the early rounds and Paret was in

Sir Robert Peel and American Policing

Sir Robert Peel and American Policing The history of policing dates back several thousand years
ago when there was no order or peace and inhumane acts upon citizens was the norm with religious,
political, or military police acting as the law. Policing was unstable and unorganized. Citizens took
the law into their own hands and served as judge, jury, and executioner. There was not such a thing
as being innocent until proven guilty. If the community believed an individual was guilty of a crime
then the community would handle the offense themselves. American policing stems from the
English heritage; crime prevention and control, preventive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The United States admired Sir Robert Peel s principals of policing and therefore adopted it to
incorporate into their legal justice system of law enforcement. The government tried to
incorporate Sir Robert Peel s Principals into different cities with no luck or gratitude. In 1838,
Boston became the first city to incorporate these principals and have the first organized policing
in the United States. In 1845, New York City followed suit. Soon thereafter, Philadelphia
followed suit but it did not follow the principals, destroying different forms of policing. Finally,
Philadelphia collaborated their policing style to be organized and uphold order by way of Sir
Robert Peel s Nine Principals. Sir Robert Peel, known as the father of modern policing, set the
foundation for organization and structure in modern day policing in London. The United States
followed behind shortly thereafter to enlist a police force for order, organization, and service. Peel
set up Peel s Nine Principals which the United States still abides by to this day. The father of
policing has helped our government to overcome harsh judgment, corruption, and harsh actions, and
has made it possible for citizens of this society to bond with local law enforcement. This has
allowed our law enforcement to handle situations appropriately and incorporate bigger agencies to

The Death Penalty Is Wrong

April 20th 2018
The Death Penalty is Wrong The death penalty has been considered one of the most severe
punishments by governments. However, recently, many people have rebelled against the death
penalty. The death penaltyis an act that is similar to being ruled under fascism instead of
democracy. Under the rule of democracy, citizens are responsible for the acts of other fellow
citizens, which can be inferred that crime is caused by the lack of responsibility in society. The
victim s loved ones suffer due to the victim s death. It is understandable that they would want the
murderer dead, but society often does not work that way. People need to think on behalf of the
society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the opposing view states that if the death penalty did not exist, then it could have a
tremendous effect on society. However, that is not true. If there were no death penalty, we would
still have other punishments that were used like life imprisonment. There are other forms of
physical punishment such as whipping. This type of punishment would be able to take the place
of the death penalty because the death penalty is just too extreme. In truth, criminals need a
second chance in their life for them to succeed. Here is a quote: Hoang Vu (attempted murderer)
and Terrell Carswell (cocaine trafficking and robbery) were next, pulling Burden off the deputy
while David Schofield (aggravated assault and battery) grabbed Moon s radio and called for help.
(cracked.com). This shows how a prisoner who has committed a crime helps the officers in prison.
If they had a second chance to integrate into society, they would live better lives without
damaging society. If we look at the problem on behalf of society, isn t it one of our responsibilities
to forgive rather than taking everything from them? A democratic society is when you are

Noise effects badly on the signal. In many times signals are consolidated in a complicated way.
Sending visual digital images is one of the main problems that we face in modern data

John Stuart Mill And Jeremy Bentham
One would be right in assuming that we would not do something in life unless it has something to
offer us. There is no point to complete an action unless the action s consequence benefitted us in
some way. Furthermore, there a notion that in life we must aspire to do more than just what we
like, understanding that living life is taking the bad with the good. However, for hedonists this
notion is non existent. Hedonismis the pursuit of pleasure while simultaneously avoiding pain,
deriving happiness only from pleasure achieved and pain avoided. John Stuart Milland Jeremy
Bentham are two philosophers who fall into the Utilitarian and hedonist camp. However, while
both men are Utilitarian, they differ greatly in their thoughts on hedonism. Where Bentham takes a
quantitative stance, Mill assumes the, admittedly more complicated, quantitative position. In Mill
doing so, he distinguishes between two types of pleasure: higher pleasures and lower pleasures.
In this paper, I plan to prove that Mill s view is not philosophically defensible. I will do so by
showing that Mill ventures from Hedonism as he takes a more objective stance that is not based on
pleasure alone. Before we can begin to disagree with Mill, we must frame his qualitative hedonism
against Bentham s quantitative hedonism. Bentham defines utility as something that produces
benefit, advantage, pleasure, good, of happiness (353). This basic principle can also be applied to
his definition of hedonism. Bentham s

National Health System ( Nhs ) Essay
National Health System (NHS) England (1800words) The National Health System began in
1948 with the aim to provide free health care for the English thus removing health access
inequities. This essay considers two strengths of the NHS, being free health and locally
responsive health care and two weaknesses being the financial burden and unprecedented
pressure on health care resources. One of the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive
free fully funded medical care that includes all medical treatment, screenings including antenatal,
dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore,
while being free at point of access, the NHS system is an efficient, effective, care, safe,
coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number two worldwide on equity (NHS
England, 2016). Free healthcare supports Ham s (2010) claim that being free at point of entry is
a characteristic of a high performing health care system. The benefits of free healthcare were that
everyone was able to get the same medical treatment. The delivery of health care through Clinical
Commissioning Groups (CCG s) is another strength. CCG s were created in 2012 following the
passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in 2013(NHS England,
2013). Their strength lies in their authority and purpose to provide health care that is responsive to
a geographical area and set patient number. They are clinically led, often by local

The Rehabilitation Of Stroke Patients
Brain Plasticity: How is This Evidenced from the Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients?
The essay will look at brain plasticity in the context of brain injury, specifically that which occurs
during a stroke and discuss how it is possible for regions of the brain to reconstruct to serve new
functions, which were previously allocated to other regions in the brain. The effectiveness of the
rehabilitation methods which use the idea of brain plasticity to help stroke patients regain previously
lost functions, will also be considered.
Brain plasticity is the ability of the brain to change and develop throughout life or with training.
This occurs when the neurons make new connections and the brain reorganises. There are 3 main
situations in which the brain changes: the beginning of life to organise itself, when you have brain
injury, to compensate for damage caused, and then throughout adulthood as we learn new skills.
Genetics only cause the brain to develop to a certain point, the rest of the brains development
depends on life experiences. The brain is known as being plastic , it can mould to what is
happening in our environment, be that drugs, hormones, relationships or diet. The developing brain
is more sensitive to change than the older brain, and the same experience can have different effects
on the brain at different ages.
The brain is capable of reallocating brain functions to different areas and forming new connections
between neurons. The two different types of plasticity

in turn will increase speed and vertical height. Activating the stretch shortening cycle increases
power output and concentric phase of the movement (Watkins, 2013). Intensity, volume and
frequency are all factors determined by the players needs for the exact implementation to increase
performance. Functional training use of plyometrics for upper and lower extremities can have a
substantial influence on improving skill, speed and strength. ... Show more content on

The first phase is the eccentric phase. In this phase the energy is stored during pre loading. Between
the eccentric and concentric stage is the transition phase, called amortization. This phase should be
short in order for the energy to not dissipate. The last stage is the takeoff. In the concentric phase
the stored potential energy is transferred into the movement. The muscle is loaded with a
lengthening motion, followed immediately by a concentric shortening motion. In combination, the
series is called the stretch shortening cycle.
The muscle spindle in the muscle being activated detects a change in the length of muscle.
Therefore, the muscles and tendons react reflexively to provide protection.
Basketball
Basketball requires individuals to change speed, direction and movement. Jumping is also an
essential piece of the game. Therefore, both quickness and power are essential for optimal
performance.
Plyometric training can be used as a pre season or in season method of training. Branch (2013),

How To Reduce Prescription Drug Abuse
In the United States alone, over fifteen million people abuse prescription drugs. Due to the rise in
prescription drug abuse, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Centers for Disease
Control (CDC) have declared the abuse as a crisis. A common misconception about prescription
drugs is that many people believe that they are safer than illegal drugs, such as heroin. However,
prescription drugs are only safe in the doses prescribed. If taken obsessively, then the drugs have
the potential to be just as dangerous as illegal substances. The most commonly abused prescription
drugs are opiates, better known as painkillers, which have been readily available to abusers and
requires little effort to attain. More needs to be done to limit prescriptions... Show more content on

Advertising for prescription opiates overlooks the fact that they are addictive. In a world filled
with technology, advertisements are everywhere. It is nearly impossible for many people to get
through the day without hearing at least one commercial. In the past several years, drug companies
have begun to advertise their products. Designed to appeal to the public, most ads do not disclose
their faults. However, in the dawn of the opioid crisis, states are beginning to question the lack of
acknowledgment of their drug s addictive history. The city of Chicago has sued several
pharmaceutical companies over misleading advertising. While some companies have reached an
agreement to disclose the risk of addiction with their products, advocates believe this does not
solely make a large impact on improving the opiate crisis. Adriane Fugh Berman, professor of
pharmacology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, claims, Maybe it s a first step, but I
think counting on pharmaceutical companies to get us out of this opioid mess is not likely to be
successful, (qtd. in Bernstein). Advocates agree, solely relying on pharmaceutical companies will
not solve the opioid

Comparing The Death Of A Salesman And The Great Gatsby By...
English Essay: Compare and contrast After reading The Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, it is clear that there are associations that can be
made between the two novels. There are many ways in which the life of Willy Loman compares or
contrasts with the life of Jay Gatsby. The most obvious and simplest comparison is their pursuit of
the American Dream which leads to their ultimate downfall. Although, Willy and Gatsby
contrast in the way they pursue the American dream, their stories are very similar because they
show us that following this dream one s entire life will eventually lead to one s downfall. One
thing that continues to come up in A Death of a Salesman is the fact that Willy has this huge
desire to be well liked. This is more important to him than being accomplished or having a good
job. He constantly tells Linda and his kids that it is more important to be well liked than to be
successful at work or in school. He lies to his kids about the fact that he is well liked which
eventually leads to his two kids growing up as failures. Seeing how his lies have hurt, not only
himself, but his children too, Willy decides to do what in his mind, is the only thing he can do
to save help his family. He decides to kill himself and then maybe he will have a lot of people show
up to his funeral which would mean that he is well liked. Of course no one shows up to the funeral
but Willy s

Dear Governor Memorandum
Dear Governor Cuomo, I am a concerned citizen of New York State and also a developmental
psychologist specializing in stages of development in adolescents. I am writing to you because I
was just made aware that, in NYS, adolescents still could receive the death penalty as a result of
them committing a heinous crime. I believe during this particular stage of development, an
adolescent is not fully capable of understanding the magnitude and seriousness of such an act.
Psychosocial maturity is reached around the age of 24 that is when adolescents enter adulthood.
Reaching cognitive maturity around the age of 16 does not assure maturation because the two
structures develop at different rates and serve two different purposes, thus you need both... Show

Steinberg explained that Asynchrony in brain development during adolescence (Steinberg Scott,
Less Guilty by Reason of Adolescence: Developmental Immaturity, Diminished Responsibility,
and the Juvenile Death Penalty, 2003) is that certain processes occur/develop prior to other
processes during adolescence. In other words, speech comprehension occurs prior to speech
production. It is complicated for adolescents to make sound decisions if perhaps myelination
hasn t happened in the prefrontal cortex which is responsible for decision making. Therefore the
adolescent will choose a more risky behavior because they are unable to access their higher
cognitive functions. It has been proven that individuals mature at different rates given certain
policies where a 16 year old cannot be held up to the death penalty because they aren t
psychosocially mature enough, but can make a sound medical decision without the consent of an
adult. Steinberg thought that we should move away from using a 2 class category system (child
/adult) and use a more realistic classification system (child, adolescent, adult). Only during the
stage of adolescence, is where there are age restrictions because at certain ages adolescents are
only allowed to engage in particular activities, but reversely are limited by those same age
constraints according to public policy. Medical decisions are those where

What Are Gender Roles In American Culture
Aishat Adebayo

Cultural Influence on Gender Role
Ever since I was little, all I have ever dreamt about was becoming a successful doctor and living
in a beautiful modern home with my husband and many children. You could say that I m aspiring
for my version of the American dream. My parents, who I look up to, portray a glimpse of this
future that I hope to achieve. Since I grew up in a Nigerian Muslim household, with conservative
parents, my sister and I were raised to uphold certain beliefs regarding gender roles. In a traditional
African culture, it s customary for women to be raised as housewives as men are believed to be
the breadwinners of the household. From a very young age, I was taught to cook, clean and care
for my future family. As extra motivation my parents would often tell me how shameful it would
be to fail as a housewife and unable to marry as a result. Just getting married, does not cut it,
women are also expected to birth a child for their husbands (notice the FOR) otherwise, they are
looked down upon. My parents always made sure to tell my sister and me, that for us to obtain a
happy marriage, we should look for an African Muslim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

street, and a man should be treated like a King, and the wife should also be treated like a Queen.
When I think about who my future husband is, I see an African Muslim man, with great qualities
that exemplify characteristics resembling my father. Because of this, I rarely give men who do not
display these characteristics, the time of day (Hence why I m still single). Recently, I came across
a situation in which a male individual revealed the mindset of a typical egotistical man. Situations
such as this only reinforce my beliefs that good men no longer

Shakespeare s Use Of Empathy In Hamlet
Shakespeare s Hamlet gives us the character Hamlet and shows us his descent into madness
following the death of his father; he contemplates suicide, is cruel and calculating ignoring the
feelings of others in his goal of avenging his father, and he sees supernatural beings that are not
there.
For Hamlet to be contemplating death after the death of his own father is not unusual, his thoughts
go past what would be considered normal. Some of the first hints of Hamlet s true mental state
come from his fascination with death. He has thoughts of suicide and death throughout the play,
these are attributes of a person with a mental disorder, someone who is becoming unhinged. The

mother. His uncle is the one who has benefited most and Hamlet s subconscious knows this,

told by the guards that the ghost of his father is roaming the castle. In this time period ghosts were
considered real, however people believing in a supernatural being differs greatly from someone
having an actual interaction with one. Hamlet has an experience with the ghost, he actually talks to
what he believes is a ghost. What Hamlet is actually talking to is a figment of his imagination, a

Their primary marketing objective is to strategize menu development in order to grow customer
base. In the case, it is indicated that Panera manufactures its own fresh dough; which is not only
produced, but also delivered daily all over the country. Management at Panera views this as a
competitive advantage rather than viewing it as a costly process. Also, due to the rising cost of
ingredients due to the current economy, it is likely that Panera s menu pricing will experience a
rise and possible item substitution or replacement. I have personally already experienced this.
The price of ingredients greatly affects the menu pricing. In order for there to be an effective
analysis of their cost, more information is required on the cost of producing the items listed on
Panera s menu. It would be suggested that Panera should evaluate ways to offer lower prices on
their food without having a major financial impact on the company s profit margin. Panera s

Cali Cartel vs. Tijuana Cartel
The drug trade is a very large and complex system. There are many different organizations
involved at different levels. There are groups that operate only in growing and selling the product,
and only groups that buy and distribute the drugs. In this essay I will discuss the similarities and
differences of two of the largest growers and sellers in the drug trade: The Cali Cartel of Columbia
and the Tijuana Cartel of Mexico. The Cali Cartel is the largest, richest, and most complex
producers and distributors of cocaine. The cartel concentrates almost entirely in cocaine. Over time

The regional director reports directly to one of the top drug lords, based in Colombia. This
structure has worked very well and it is because of the cartels complex system that they have
been so successful. However, these organizations would cease to exist if they didn t reside
within the governments that they do. The Cali Cartels operations are made much easy because
of warring paramilitary groups in Columbia. These groups protect the growers in their specific
areas. If there were to be peace in Columbia and the two groups agree to a ceasefire, the growers
would then be vulnerable to government intervention. In Mexico, the AFO thrives on the large
number of corrupt Mexican officials. The cartel makes it a very smart choice for a government
official or law enforcer to help them. Not only are they bribed, but they are also threatened with
violence. Everyone in Mexico knows from the history of this group that they mean business and
any threat is very legitimate. Because of the large amount of corruption in the Mexican
government, the Tijuana cartel flourishes. Both of these cartels are custom made for the area they
are located in. If the systems were to switch geographic locations, they would not be nearly as
successful. Over the years, the groups have molded to form the perfect fit for a drug cartel to

Obamacare History
UMMARY HISTORY:
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act., a health reform, known as the Obamacare was
signed into law by formal President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.
Seven (7) year later is still going strong, and its estimated by 2018, the pre existing health
condition will be covered without the need to pay a co pay.
EXPLANATION:
What is the ACA, is healthcare in which is affordable for the consumer, patient, for families. This
program was designate to help all individuals to obtain a health policy for less, to improve their
quality of life by giving everyone the benefit needed and the protections regardless of previous
health medical history (MHI) any present conditions.

Cost curbing measures and reductions in health insurance costs for many Americans due to
subsidies help to insure tens of millions by expanding coverage options. This expansion could
potentially result in an overall net decrease of the deficit by driving health care costs down over
time.
Obamacare was originally projected to cut the national deficit by over $200 billion during its
first 10 years, and by over $1 trillion over the next two decades in March of 2012. Although
estimates have changed, the law s provisions continue to curb healthcare costs. This helps offset
the current estimated $1.207 trillion net cost of ObamaCare s insurance related provisions. (The
gross cost of ObamaCare is $1,707 billion, offset by a projected $500 billion in revenue for 2016
2025.)
The new lowered estimate of $1.207 trillion is, in part, due to a downward trend in spending by
private health insurers in health care and administration. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO)
and Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that growth in private health insurance spending
per enrollee over the 2006 2013 period averaged 1.8% per year, compared with an average rate of
5.0% per year during the 1998 2005

The Pros And Cons Of Language Pedagovation
Kurt Lewin(1942), was known as the founder of social psychology, he also proposed the theory that
behavior of the person is generated from different interactions of the learner and his environment.
He suggested that learning should be observed holistically with relation to the psychological factors
of the learners environment and also the other factor that effect the learners behavior.
Jean Piaget s(Piaget s Duckworth, 1970), genetic epistemology also finds a relation between the
learning process and the interaction with the environment. Piaget s theory denies this factor that the
knowledge already exists in the society or it is inborn characteristic of the learner.

The concept of language motivation already exists and adds nothing new in the acculturation and
language motivation or in the existing knowledge.
Then in the start of 1960s to 1980s, Gardner presented and remolded the socio educational model,
the most influential model of language learning motivation in the already existing literature
(Keblawi; 2009, p. 12). Through this model, Gardner (1985a, p. 8) explains language motivation as
a combination of effort plus desire to achieve the goal of learning the language plus favorable
attitudes towards learning the language .
With the further description of integrative and instrumental motivation, it refers to the wish of the
learner to interact and communicate with the natives of the target language for the assimilation of
the language. On the other hand, the instrumental motivation is described with the functional point
of view of getting a better job and handsome salary or getting the success in the examination and for
getting supremacy and good status in the society (Keblawi,

Triangle Shirt Waist Fire, By Isaac Hayes And Max Blank
Triangle Shirt Waist Fire Only fifteen minutes away from being released after a hard day s
work, to enjoy a Saturday evening with their families and the promise of a nice Sunday off, 146
workers would lose their lives in New York City s worst factory fire ever. When the smoke was
gone and the fires extinguished, 146 workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory lay dead from a
senseless tragedy that could have been prevented. When all the bodies were accounted for it was
determined that fifty three had died by Jumping from the eighth, ninth, and tenth floors. Nineteen
fell to their deaths in the elevatorshaft while trying to escape the fire. More than twenty workers
would die when the overloaded fire escapes collapsed beneath their feet, sending them falling to
their deaths. The rest consisted of fifty workers who would become entombed within the ninth floor
burning to death before they could escape.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Company was owned and operated by Isaac Hayes and Max Blank. The
Triangle Company was the largest provider of the shirtwaist to the women of the New York area.
A shirtwaist is a traditional woman s blouse that resembles a button up shirt with sleeves. The
shirtwaist incorporated a blouse with buttons, a collar and a seam at the waistline which drew the
garment in. The shirtwaist was a stand alone item and sometimes was attached to a dress. The

  • 2. Forms Of Power In Fresco Of Six Kings And Naked Woman We still live in a patriarchal society. 60 years has passed since the strenuous movement of the feminists, but the male dominant power toward female has not changed. The word of John Berger who is famous for Ways of Seeing indicate this power relation. Men act and women appear. Men look at women (25). The same relation is prevailing when we gazeat an image. Two images collided in this essay both possesses forms of power in different representations. Fresco of Six Kings and Naked Woman, a mural painted in the changing room of Jordan s Qasr Amra depicts figures of maleand female in total contrast. Built in 705 in the middle of a dessert, it functioned as a retreating space only allowed for the privileged. The inner wall of this architecture is lavishly decorated with figures symbolizing power of the region. The left space of the fresco is filled blue with 6 figures standing inside it. They are well dressed in luxurious robes decorated carefully with fine patterns. Patterned fabrics expend larger energy to be produced thus resulting in higher price. Also, the representation of the robe corresponds to the costume of Byzantine emperor from 5 to 6th Century. Therefore those 6 figures could be assumed as the wealthy class and one of them as the emperor. In contrast to these clad men, the woman on the right stands alone in a pool of water very scantly clothed. But as seen closely, the viewer could notice that she is not standing alone in the picture plane. On her left side, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Letter From Birmingham Jail Analysis Birmingham, Alabama during the 1960 s was experiencing a time of high racial tension and injustice for African Americans. Blacks were only allowed to sit in specific areas in buses and restaurants, and they had separate water fountains, churches, schools, and other public gathering areas. In 1963, the African Americandemonstrators began sitting in at lunch counters that had not served blacks before and picketed stores that did not allow blacks to shop in them. Soon after, African Americans began getting arrested for trespassing. The civil rights leaders applied for permits to picket and parade but were denied, and this sparked the thought that the law prohibiting African Americans to picket and parade was unjust and they decided to disobey it. This led to certain opinions about the Civil Rights Movement to arise and become public. Eight Alabama white clergymen, who represented various churches, wrote A Call for Unity: A Letter from Eight White Clergymen in response to the protests that had broken out across Birmingham ( Unity ). Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested and sent to jail in 1963 because he and others were protesting the treatment of African Americans. He went on to write A Letter from Birmingham Jail as he waited, hunched over, in his jail cell ( Birmingham ). Both the clergymen and Dr. King used the art of argument to try to persuade people to believe their views on the issue. • 10. The Conflict Between Israel And Palestinian Refugees Going after their independence, Israel was looking for the support of big and powerful countries, and the cooperation of the surrounding states. Unfortunately, the Israeli independence movement did not turn out to be so easy. As the surrounding Arab nations began to get angry with the preferential treatment of the British, tensions rose between Israeland the Palestinians. Consequently, because of the superior army and the support behind Israel, the wars resulted in an abundance of Palestinian refugees that still struggle to establish their own state today. Through many efforts and support systems, international aid has been offered to the Palestinian refugees, but as proven by the millions of refugees that still live in the UNRWA camps today, none of these tactics have worked. Although international organizations were ineffective in solving the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian refugees, the establishment of an Arab state early on would have prevented a future humanitarian crisis; demonstrating the preferential treatment within foreign intervention. Leading up to the wars between Israel and the Arabs, Israel was getting favorable treatment from the British, as Palestinians were left to fight against the odds. If this one sided contract and way of thinking had not existed, both the Arabs and the Jews would have been satisfied. In the late 19th century, there was a rise of Zionism among the Jewish people, in effort to return the Jews to their homeland and resume ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Dorothy Of The White House Dorothy Day grew up without a Catholic background, but had a strong will for social justice. She was a natural pacifist which she expressed even before converting to Catholicism. She worked for the Call which encouraged her picketing and strikes against social injustices. (57) Later, Dorothy also protested with women against suffragists in front of the White House and was arrested. During her time in prison, she got involved with a hunger strike which caused the demands to be met. (82) She had a strong will for the fairness of others. Dorothy had lived in an apartment in Chicago for a short time. She became acquainted with Catholicism in a couple she had met there. After analyzing them, she realized they are not lonely like she is because they are Catholic. They have a God to love and pray to. (106) Dorothy began to gain Catholic faith while she was in a common law marriage with an atheist anarchist named Forster. He disagreed with and discouraged her faith, but this didn t stop her. She found out she was pregnant with his child and wanted to baptize her in the Catholic church after she was born and later got herself baptized after working hard to learn religion. Forster left her for this. She chose God over man by this point. (140) This showed how important her faith was in her life. The Great Depression began and Dorothy s awareness of the need for Catholic stance grew. It was a time for pressure groups, for direct action, and radicalism was thriving among all groups ... • 13. Video Games and Sociological Theory Essay Video Games and Sociological Theory July 22, 2012 Video games have become as pervasive an aspect of our society as television, with many people spending more time playing video games than watching television. There are many perspectives with which to gauge videos games effect on society, from a functionalist, conflict or interactionist perspective. (Schaefer, 2011) Each of these sociological theories can provide a different view of video games, how they affect society and the subcultures that develop around them. The functionalist perspective would emphasize the way in which the parts of a society are structured to maintain its stability. (Schaefer, 2011) A functionalist may point out the manifest functions of video games as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A more in depth study may look at video games from a Marxist point of view, characterizing the games as a modern day opiate of the masses with multi billion dollar corporations publishing the games to keep the proletariat occupied and oblivious to their plights. A feminist may cite the standard role of female video game characters as being the damsel in distress and even strong female characters usually being relegated to sex symbol status. An interactionist would study the effect of videos games on individuals, rather than on society as a whole. (Schaefer, 2011) Some things they may study would be any influence the games have on a behavior of a person. Another interactionist aspect would be the effect on families, where, like many things, video games can bring a family together or alienate members. Online multiplayer games now can also allow people to interact with other players from all over the world, being exposed to people and aspects of culture they may never have encountered otherwise. The interactionist may also look at gaming clans, and how the interaction of members affects daily life outside of video games. The sociological interpretations of video games are almost as numerous as the games themselves, and like many aspects of our society can be harmful or beneficial depending on how they are utilized by an ... • 15. Importance Of Tidal Energy Electricity Culminating Renewable Energy Project Nazia Nusrat SNC 1D A. Cook December 17, 2017 Why should tidal energy be a common renewable energy source in the future? Tidal energy is a form of hydroelectricity that is provided from the rise and fall of tides. Due to the Moon s gravitational force, bodies of water rise and fall, the force created can be turned into a form of renewable energy. Tidal power was first introduced in the 19th century in U.S and Europe. In 1966, the Rance Tidal Power Station, was operated in France, being the first large scale tidal system. Tidal energy is more predictable than solar panels and wind turbines. The sun isn t always out to provide light and the wind depends on the weather. Tides are almost always there and the ocean is more understood than the temperature or the sun. Tidal energy is much more reliable and renewable than other sources such as fossil fuels which cause acid rain, and nuclear power and its radiation. Since the ocean is much denser than air, tidal turbines generate more electricity and therefore are more efficient compared to wind turbines. Hydro power in general is considered more efficient and converts the most energy to electricity than other renewable energy sources. Tidal power is also inexpensive compared to other renewable energy sources as shown below in this chart. Tidal power plants also have a very long lifespan. The oldest plant, La Rance, in ... In the case of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, the author incorporates both the American Dream from the 1950s and 1960s, but also today s take on the subject. In various other news articles, it is reported that diplomats from not only South Korea, but China are brokering agreements with the United States in hopes of avoiding the war. For years, war with North Korea has been suggested, forgotten, and reevaluated. In 2017, it seems there is growing tension and Americans are not prepared for what could happen if the war was to begin. There is no patriotism in this case, no one is ready to go to war with North Korea. This would not be a war that the men and women of the country would fight; it would be with nuclear weapons and the push of a few buttons. In Irving s book, there is something to be fought for the protection of a country from the evil grasp of Communism. In the case of North Korea, there is only an angry leader who has harboured hatred towards the United States for years. In summary, the American dream currently is not to go to war for the sake of fighting, the people need something to fight for in order to justify their personal American Dream. • 17. Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, A Jewish Scholar, Astrologer And... Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, commonly known as Maimonides or by the acronym RaMBaM, was a Jewish scholar, astrologer and physician of the twelfth century considered to be one of Judaism s greatest sages. His revolutionary publications were essential in the development of the Shulchan Aruch, the practiced Code of Jewish Law and maintaining Jewish continuity throughout the ages. Maimonideswas born in 1135 in Cordoba, Spain to his mother and father, Rabbi Maimon, and would go on to study medicine and philosophy in unison with his religious studies. From a young age, Maimonides father mentored him in the teachings of the Talmud, Torah, Jewish philosophy and secular sciences. His education in these areas would eventually fuel his writings. In 1148, when Maimonides was just 13, a Sunni Muslim Caliphate movement called the Almohades invaded Southern Spain, and he and his family were forced to flee their hometown. The Almohades invasion marked the end of the Golden Age of Jewish culture in Spain, where although Jews were not fist class citizens, they lived free of persecution and were able to conduct businesses and lead relatively peaceful lives. The Almohades invasion put great pressure on its Jewish inhabitants, posing a serious threat to Jewish continuity. Many religious institutions dissolved, including synagogues and yeshivas, and Sharia Law now dictated everyday life for Christians and Jews of Spain. Genocide In The Ottoman Empire The events of World War I in the Ottoman Empire, where approximately two million Christian inhabitants were killed or disappeared traceless, are usually described as the 1915 genocide or the Armenian genocide since the Armenians constituted up to 1.5 million of these victims. The genocide practically emptied the Ottoman Empireand current Turkey from its Christian population, leaving an almost entirely Muslim/Turkish Turkey. Genocideis considered to have been intended as a solution to the Armenian Question, but also other minorities in the Ottoman Turkey, mainly Christian Assyrians/Syrians/Chaldeans and Greeks suffered as well. The massacres were an attempt to create a new homogenous Turkish state. The former ethnic and religious diversity that characterized the Ottoman Empire, had in the accelerating decomposition of the empire from early 1800s, disappeared, namely when the Christian nations in the Balkans began to free themselves and proclaim independence. Marx s fundamental ideas are prevalent in both novels. Karl Marx is a German philosopher who challenged capitalism with the creation of communism. Marx s most essential and recognized beliefs are that class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart of the society. He also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he describes as putting self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane questions other characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations, characters challenge Pip on his Marxist beliefs. Therefore, throughout the use of interclass relationships, classism and rugged individualism, readers are able to observe how Jane challenges others Marxist beliefs and other characters challenge Pip s Marxist beliefs. In the novel Jane Eyre, we re able to see how interclass relationships of all kinds were frowned upon within society. He would give long detailed descriptions of conversations and events when a simpler one would do. I also believe it tended to read as a text book or journal rather than a novel. It seems hard to believe that the signs of increasing dehydration went unnoticed or even worse, were viewed as normal . Even more difficult to believe is that the nurses were unable to create a partnership with the mother. In the story, it seems as if the mom was dismissed as a partner in the process and felt as if no one was listening to her. Although a family member may not have the medical knowledge a nursehas, they have knowledge of their child and that is lost without their help. What would have happened if the nurse spent a moment to understand where Josie s mother was coming from or called the doctor to communicate her symptoms? Did she truly believe her symptoms were normal or was she too busy with something else? It shouldn t be possible to have a child be NPO without IV fluids running. While it takes children a long time to stop compensating, I m sure there were signs of dehydration. During a bath, the mom notes how furiously Josie was sucking on a wet washcloth. If it was known that she was not drinking, how could these signs have been missed? It seems as though a total breakdown in obvious behavior and team communication is evident. This chemical compound is monovalent since it is able to form only one covalent bond. A cyanide molecule also has a strong tendency to bind with other atoms or compounds, yielding a variety of different products. The type of atom or compound to which the cyanide molecule bonds determines the properties and toxicity of the resulting product. There are two kinds of cyanide: organic and inorganic. Organic cyanides are typically called nitriles. Here, the CN group is linked by a covalent bond to a carbon containing group. Inorganic cyanide on the other hand is a negatively charged polyatomic ion. These kinds of cyanide are considered as the salts of hydrocyanic acid which are highly toxic. Manifestations and ... Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There are many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning sprays, furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin irritation and headaches. An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms. Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants even without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause indoor air pollution problems. What Causes of Indoor Air Problems The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air. Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. It all started in 5th century BC when early Greek philosophers characterized the origin of the natural world as by the power of nature rather than by supernatural force. They proposed the theory of evolutionto explain the basis of the natural world. Thus, evolutionary theory began with the Ionian philosopher Anaximander (611 546 BC) who proposed living beings gradually developed from water and that humans originated from animals. This popular doctrine of a fixed, permanent and unchanging species overruled suggested ideas of evolution. Natural theologian Carolus Linnaeus (1701 1778) was the Father of Taxonomy and he developed the two part system (genus and species) of naming organisms and grouping species into a hierarchy. He firmly believed that species were permanent and dedicated his life to classifying organisms to reveal the plan of God s creation. Through greater knowledge of the natural world, discoveries in the geological sciences greatly contributed to making Darwin s theory of evolution possible. French geologist Buffon (1707 1778) came to recognize that sedimentary rocks were laid down at different times suggesting the age of the earth. French zoologist and paleontologist Georges Cuvier (1769 1832) documented the succession of fossil species, noting the progressiveness of the fossil record however, he was opposed to evolution and argued that boundaries between organisms from different strata were cause by past catastrophic events (catastrophism). However, for hedonists this notion is non existent. Hedonismis the pursuit of pleasure while simultaneously avoiding pain, deriving happiness only from pleasure achieved and pain avoided. John Stuart Milland Jeremy Bentham are two philosophers who fall into the Utilitarian and hedonist camp. However, while both men are Utilitarian, they differ greatly in their thoughts on hedonism. Where Bentham takes a quantitative stance, Mill assumes the, admittedly more complicated, quantitative position. In Mill doing so, he distinguishes between two types of pleasure: higher pleasures and lower pleasures. In this paper, I plan to prove that Mill s view is not philosophically defensible. I will do so by showing that Mill ventures from Hedonism as he takes a more objective stance that is not based on pleasure alone. Before we can begin to disagree with Mill, we must frame his qualitative hedonism against Bentham s quantitative hedonism. Bentham defines utility as something that produces benefit, advantage, pleasure, good, of happiness (353). This basic principle can also be applied to his definition of hedonism. Bentham s ... • 40. Behavior Change Tests Introduction In the figure below, Catania and colleagues have explained the process of behavioural change and how each step impacts the overall approach of the individual. The figure confirms all of the steps that have been aforementioned and illustrate how the success of each step is important for not only its completion but also the appropriate initiation of the next step (Catania et al, 1990). The labelling refers to the recognition of the problem; the commitment to the stage of planning to resolve the problem; and, the enactment to the action taken. In this paper we will mainly highlight how the different behaviour change tests will impact an individual when he chooses to sustain a medium sized company. The paper will be divided across four sections: the first will be the critical evaluation of the GET profile and test (attached) where the various personal traits highlighted in the results will be discussed; the second section will include the supporting evidence for assessments inclusive of universal examples; the third section will include the antecedent influences that I had, primarily, in the form of advice from my family members, that instigated the development of certain business traits in me; the fourth and final section will include the implications of these tests on my business traits. The paper will then end with a conclusion of further personal analysis on my business. Critical Evaluation GET profile Collaborative It could appear just like an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. National Health System ( Nhs ) Essay National Health System (NHS) England (1800words) The National Health System began in 1948 with the aim to provide free health care for the English thus removing health access inequities. This essay considers two strengths of the NHS, being free health and locally responsive health care and two weaknesses being the financial burden and unprecedented pressure on health care resources. One of the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive free fully funded medical care that includes all medical treatment, screenings including antenatal, dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore, while being free at point of access, the NHS system is an efficient, effective, care, safe, coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number two worldwide on equity (NHS England, 2016). Free healthcare supports Ham s (2010) claim that being free at point of entry is a characteristic of a high performing health care system. The benefits of free healthcare were that everyone was able to get the same medical treatment. The delivery of health care through Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG s) is another strength. CCG s were created in 2012 following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in 2013(NHS England, 2013). Their strength lies in their authority and purpose to provide health care that is responsive to a geographical area and set patient number. They are clinically led, often by local ... During the excavations conducted at the Levi Jordan Plantation In Brazoria County, Texas, a cabin was investigated that indicates it was utilized as the residence of an individual that worked lead, manufactured lead shot, and possibly other metals. This cabin has been labeled as the Smith s Cabin . It has been shown, that munitions were being made within ths cabin; specificially shot. • 43. The Rehabilitation Of Stroke Patients Brain Plasticity: How is This Evidenced from the Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients? The essay will look at brain plasticity in the context of brain injury, specifically that which occurs during a stroke and discuss how it is possible for regions of the brain to reconstruct to serve new functions, which were previously allocated to other regions in the brain. The effectiveness of the rehabilitation methods which use the idea of brain plasticity to help stroke patients regain previously lost functions, will also be considered. Brain plasticity is the ability of the brain to change and develop throughout life or with training. This occurs when the neurons make new connections and the brain reorganises. There are 3 main situations in which the brain changes: the beginning of life to organise itself, when you have brain injury, to compensate for damage caused, and then throughout adulthood as we learn new skills. Genetics only cause the brain to develop to a certain point, the rest of the brains development depends on life experiences. The brain is known as being plastic , it can mould to what is happening in our environment, be that drugs, hormones, relationships or diet. The developing brain is more sensitive to change than the older brain, and the same experience can have different effects on the brain at different ages. The brain is capable of reallocating brain functions to different areas and forming new connections between neurons. The two different types of plasticity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald, it is clear that there are associations that can be made between the two novels. There are many ways in which the life of Willy Loman compares or contrasts with the life of Jay Gatsby. The most obvious and simplest comparison is their pursuit of the American Dream which leads to their ultimate downfall. Although, Willy and Gatsby contrast in the way they pursue the American dream, their stories are very similar because they show us that following this dream one s entire life will eventually lead to one s downfall. One thing that continues to come up in A Death of a Salesman is the fact that Willy has this huge desire to be well liked. This is more important to him than being accomplished or having a good job. He constantly tells Linda and his kids that it is more important to be well liked than to be successful at work or in school. I believe during this particular stage of development, an adolescent is not fully capable of understanding the magnitude and seriousness of such an act. Psychosocial maturity is reached around the age of 24 that is when adolescents enter adulthood. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steinberg explained that Asynchrony in brain development during adolescence (Steinberg Scott, Less Guilty by Reason of Adolescence: Developmental Immaturity, Diminished Responsibility, and the Juvenile Death Penalty, 2003) is that certain processes occur/develop prior to other processes during adolescence. In other words, speech comprehension occurs prior to speech production. It is complicated for adolescents to make sound decisions if perhaps myelination hasn t happened in the prefrontal cortex which is responsible for decision making. Therefore the adolescent will choose a more risky behavior because they are unable to access their higher cognitive functions. It has been proven that individuals mature at different rates given certain policies where a 16 year old cannot be held up to the death penalty because they aren t psychosocially mature enough, but can make a sound medical decision without the consent of an adult. Steinberg thought that we should move away from using a 2 class category system (child /adult) and use a more realistic classification system (child, adolescent, adult).
