Therapeutic Background Of Equine Therapy
The Therapeutic Background of Equine Therapy
Therapeutic horseback riding, a type of equine assisted psychotherapy, is a form of social, physical
and emotional therapy. In Ancient Greek, horseback riding was a well known treatment for people
who wished to rid themselves of physical or mental ailments. However, it wasn t until 1900 that
therapeutic horseback riding began to be used in Canada and the United States. Nevertheless, after
being introduced, equine therapy slowly gathered momentum across North America and, by 1969, a
group of equine therapists founded the first specialized equestrian therapy centre. In the same year,
the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) was created to coordinate,

The act of riding and trusting a horse stimulates cognitive activity and fosters feelings of
confidence. In this way, equine therapy can be a proven method of building self esteem, autonomy,
communication skills and discipline.
Different Forms of Equine Therapy
Equine therapy is a strongly recommended form of therapy for a variety of disabilities, diseases
and disorders. In particular, equine therapy is increasingly popular for people with multiple
sclerosis, spina bifida, traumatological diseases, autism, or down syndrome. Regardless of your
disability, your equine therapy program can be personalised to suit your physical and mental
requirements. Some of the most popular equine therapy programs are:
Instructional horseback riding: This is one of the most common equine therapy programs and it is
regularly used to lay the groundwork for deeper interactions between a patient and horse. This
connection building process can also include horse trainers, equestrian therapists and the patient s
family members. When these people are not included, this program is known as social equine

The Issues Of Cyber Bullying

The Issues of Cyber bullying
Alyssa Staub
CSCI 101 D1
Professor Matthews
October 23, 2017 Cyber bullying has been a topic for scholarly inquiry, political debate, and policy
reform since the commercialization of the Internet. Pre internet bullying involved socially
marginalized children and teenagers picking on their friends and other marginalized children at
school. Traditional discipline included detentions, phone calls to their parents, and some type of
discipline between the children involved. Today however, for bullies has dramatically changed and
the risk reward balance has been significantly tilted in favor of the bullies.

A case can be made that for engaged participants within massively multiplayer online role playing
games, their social well being is paramount in their realization of happiness and acceptance. This
paper will also try to make a case for why bullying in these virtual gaming worlds can be more
damaging to participants than traditional bullying.
Cyber Bullying as a Criminological Issue
The world has adopted the Internet as one of the most popular mediums for exchanging
information, and criminologists need to be well versed in its complexities in order to make
meaningful, relevant, and thought provoking research. Cyber bullying piggy backs on the
foundations of traditional bullying in principle, but provides instigators with a presumed veil of
anonymity which modernizes the bullies process of bullying. Bullies naturally have less inhibition
when they are bullying online because they can be safe at home without fear of repercussion. This
is extremely troubling considering there is very little fear of reprisal in an online environment.
There are no internet police actively monitoring conversations or information. The cold truth is that
nothing will ever happen to a cyber bully unless the victim(s) report it and pursue it legally. The

Analysis Of The Article With North Korea
The article, With North Korea, we do have cards to play, was featured in The Washington Post, a
center left publication, on 4/20/2017. The author of the article is Charles Krauthammer.
Krauthammer is a weekly writer for The Washington Post, a Fox News commentator, and a Pulitzer
Prize recipient (Charles Krauthammer). This piece argues for a diplomatic solution to the North
Korean crisis in which China places strong pressure on the North Korean government in order for
them to give up their nuclear program.
The five elements of the critical eye are accuracy, objectivity, completeness, possible options or
solutions, and a realistic discussion. The vast majority of the article features accurate information.
However, there are a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even North Korea did have the capability to miniaturize a nuclear bomb, their ballistic missiles do
not have the capability to reach mainland United States. Nonetheless, North Korea does have
additional missiles in development (North Korean Ballistic Missile Models, 2016). The following
paragraph states that the North Koreans have made significant progress with solid fuel rockets
(Krauthammer, 2017). According to a report in The Telegraph, North Korea has made progress
with solid fueled rockets. Nevertheless, it is not clear if the North Koreans have the ability to
store the solid fuel long term. This paragraph also states that solid fueled rockets are harder to
shoot down. While this is true, in most cases the rocket have reduced launch times and
countermeasures. Paragraph four is where the author misleads the audience. He states that North
Korea has an estimated 10 to 16 [nuclear weapons]. By 2020, it could very well have a hundred
(Krauthammer, 2017). This estimate was taken out of the incorrect context. This information is
based on a quotation from the top North Korean analyst at Johns Hopkins University. The 100
nuclear weapons were the least likely scenario. When discussing this issue, the top analyst stated
that a worst case scenario , in which North Korea makes dramatic technological advances in both its
nuclear programme and delivery systems, would permit Pyongyang to

A Look Into Game Theory Essay
The origins of Game Theory trace back to a letter written by Francis Waldegrave in 1713 which
proposed a minimax mixed strategy solution to a two person card game named le Her. In the
following century Charles Darwin acted as one of the pioneers in broadening the realm of this
theory into the biology of evolution as he applied the theoretic strategy in his argument of natural
selection power to equalize the sex equilibrium ratio in nature. Game Theories initial applications
were restricted to two person zero sum games where the pay off matrix was symmetric, or in other
words that the sum of the payoffs to the two participants maintains a constant value. However,
modern adaptations of game theorycame into play after John von Neumann... Show more content on

If we apply the Nash equilibrium conditions into a situation where there exists an option for both
players to cooperate or to be non cooperative, and none of these participants are aware of the other
s decision, but still knows that she/he can choose either, we have started to establish conditions
ideal for the Prisoner s dilemma. Here each party will look to adapt a dominant strategy, one that
produces an outcome that is most beneficial to them regardless of the other party s strategy.
Although it would be advantageous to each party if they both chose to cooperate, a decision is
made when they each choose a non ideal outcome to protect themselves at the expense of the other
party. Here is where the paradox is made; each participant has followed a completely logical thought
process, yet finds themselves in a worse situation than the hypothetical situation in which they both
cooperated. The logic that brings about this outcome comes from the uncertainty in the other party
s decision.
The dilemma s that often arise in the world of dating are extremely applicable to such modes of
thinking. One of the most commonly occurring dilemma of dating and relationships is the
decision to cooperate or not in the face of any sort of mistreatment. Whether it is being stood up
on a date, or being lied to, the victim of the wrongdoing is faced with the decision of

Reflection Of Consumer Chemistry
INTRODUCTION: Nowadays, people here in this world are using science in their everyday lives.
When you fry a fish, there s a science. When you wash your clothes, there s a science behind it.
Everything is science. There are different branches of science. Including Biology, Botany, Zoology,
and many more. But one of the most used in everyday life in the branches of science is the
CHEMISTRY. It is a branch of physical science that deals with composition, structure, properties
and changes of matter. Chemistry is the one who is responsible for photosynthesis (plants making
food for their own). But Consumer chemistry is the one that deals with humans in our everyday
lives. Consumer Chemistry is the branch of Chemistry that makes consumable products. Consumer

Human Beings And The Human Body
The Earth is surrounded by different kinds of living creatures since thousand years ago from
humans up to small tiny bacteria that live inside this planet. But before we go on do you know
what is a bacterium or bacteria? So basically Bacterium or bacteria are small tiny living organism
that can only be seen using microscope and it won t be able to show its body if we look at it
using our naked eyes. All of the living creatures that are found in earth may have some
interactions with other creatures like humans and animals, even interactions between human
beings and small tiny bacteria in many different ways. Human beings and small tiny bacteria
could have any interaction in many different ways; due to its tiny size the bacteria are able to
come inside the human body from holes from your body, wound, through air and water. Human
beings has always been terrify since hundreds years ago by Bacteria because it can affect
anyone, and when it affects a person it may cause infections, disease, and if fatal it may cause
death. As a result thousands of people more than 23 thousand people die each year in the United
States of America according to Centres For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC). Living in

These decision making guidelines are based on Starbucks values and principles and are meant to
help employees make unbiased decisions. Starbucks understands that if people have inaccurate
perceptions, they can make poor decisions. (Goldstein, 2006). So, they have created guidelines
that both direct employee behavior, as well as shape corporate perception. Because Starbucks
understands perceptions can affect decisions, the models help standardize the decision making
process in order to always get a satisfactory result. These models organize the decision making
process into steps which identify a need, create a process to determine what will satisfy the need,
identify matches to the need, then help make a decision based on what best matches the need
(Robbins, 2005). In addition, these models try to shape moral and ethical decisions as well as
focus on the rights of individuals and social justice. Starbucks uses what they call the Ethical
Decision Making Framework to guide the models (Business Ethics Compliance, 2013). In order to
be transparent Starbucks posts the framework and all of the models on their website (Business
Ethics Compliance, 2013). If Starbucks managers simply follow this guidance, they will be
successful and Starbucks will continue to be a successful corporation.

The observer typically cares for the child in this room because it is a safe area in which the child is
to be easily cared for and can have toys of their own as well. The environment is socially
appropriate for the child because the child is able to interact with animals such as a dog and with
people such as the observer in an easy manner. For example, the child is able to be cared for in
this room because it is not too large nor too small for the child. The furniture of the room which
includes two chairs and a couch are a bit large for the child but they are easily accessible for the
child to get onto them without help. The child is also able to be independent in this room by
walking around or choosing a toy to play with when she wants. The room is physically

An Analysis OfMystery Of Iniquity, By Lauryn Hill
In a late Tupac Shakur interview in the early 90 s he said, it all comes down to we have to
survive, we got to survive here in this country, because I m not going back to Africa, we have to
survive here . Social injustice is what activist stressed during and after the civil rights movement.
This paper is going to explore the poem Mystery of Iniquity by Lauryn Hill. In this poem Lauryn
Hill warns you of the government, and the free world . This poem was written in 2002, during
which police brutality was very prominent. In the start of this century African Americans still lived
in poverty, and was treated unfairly in the court systems causing grief.
In Mystery of Inequity Hill stresses the social injustice that is going on around the world for the
African Americans. Social injustice is when the equals are treated unequal. It can also be
discrimination towards one group or many. Therefore, this poem Hill talks about and will focus and
talk about the inequality in the criminal justice system, discrimination, and slavery. The criminal
justice system is targeting black males and Hill recognizes this. The discrimination is how blacks
were treated unfairly. Last but not least, the poem express that slavery is still potent during this era.
These three brings the poem together expressing how Hill feels about the inequality for African
Americans. She says in When it all.../ all falls down.../ Telling you all.../ It all falls down (lines 4
7). This is saying that the American system is falling and will fall eventually. Above all, In the
Mystery of Inequity , Hill talks about the history of inequity which is the criminal justice system,
discrimination, and slavery.
Hill talks about the criminal justice system which is crooked and socially injustice in Mystery
of Inequity . She says, Witness despised / crooked lawyers / false indictments publicized (lines
19 21). In this text Hill is saying that the legal (court) system is just a joke. It s made for the
people who create the laws. In line 20 Hill says crooked lawyers , because It s all about who has
money which can help you or be against you in court. In addition, Hill says, The more money you
pay... the further away solution (line 42). In this text Hill is

we want out of this war. We want peace and prosperity for the world as a whole. In July of 1945
Truman set on his journey to Europe for the Grand Alliance meeting between the three leading
allied powers, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States. The Potsdam Conference
discussed post World War II arrangements in Europe. Harriet Truman and Winston Churchill were

Dr Strangelove is the more comical version of the issues at hand, involving the Cold War. The
filmmakers of Dr. Strangelove took the idea of this horrible bomb and projected it to be comical
and something that we should just accept. The subtitle of the movie How I learned to stop
worrying and love The Bomb was implying we shouldn t worry about nuclear bombs for the
reason that there is nothing an ordinary person, can do to stop it. The subtitle is a way of saying
that no one is really in control over the deployment of nuclear weapons. In Dr. Strangelove they
recognized that the Soviet Union had been working on a Doomsday device. An obsessive right
wing commander found a way to declare red alert, that lead to a domino effect of events that were
unstoppable resulting in mass destruction. At the beginning of the movie they placed a disclaimer
stating that the Air Force would prevent [this type of incident from happening, and that] none of
the characters portrayed in this film are meant to represent any real persons living or dead (Dr.
Strangelove, Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.) The male sex drive is what
seemed to influence many of the jokes that were portrayed throughout the movie. Characters were
introduced with sexually referenced names such as Mandrake, which is a plant that is meant to
increase fertility rates. While their focus

From the time when the European crisis started, the migration to the Americas has increased.
Among all the countries in the American continent, United States is the one that has received more

Network Security Practices Essay
Today s corporate infrastructure is not the same as it was 10 years ago. In the past you were able
to control the amount of attacks on a network because of the reasonable number, which is not the
case today. At any given time an organizations network will be attacked or try to be attacked
several hundred times in one day. For larger more well known organizations this number could
grow significantly. To ensure your organization is not one of the ones on the 10 oclock news you
have to ensure you have proper securitypractices in place to secure your network.

Having this type of accountability will help you in having a better understanding and provide for a
good foundation for enforcing security across the organization. This area should also cover the
different types of data each person handles on a daily basis. It should clearly outline the different
categories that data will fall into whether it be internal, external, general use or confidential. By
doing so you now allow the employees to have a better understanding of what data they can
manipulate and data that has to stay the same.
2. Remote Access Policies users are always going to want to access the office network from a
remote site. We have to ensure that there are policies in place that allow them to do so but in a
safe manner. If they are going to remotely access the network it has to be done in accordance
with the security policies of the organization and not on their terms. This should include using a
laptop or remote connection software that has been pre approved by the organizations security
team, keeping IP s in a safe place, making sure that if they are accessing the network from a
laptop to ensure that hard drive is encrypted. This will prevent anyone from gaining access the
sensitive information if it is ever lost or stolen. Lastly not everyone should be granted remote
access to the network; this privilege should only be given to people who have a legitimate need for
it.

Literary Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises
The Great War of 1914 1918 had numerous consequences: millions of people died and the world
was permanently altered. One of the most significant results of World War 1 was the formation
of a lost generation. This term, first coined by author Gertrude Stein in conversation, refers to the
young post World War 1 men who were emotionally damaged by the horrors experienced during
combat and as a result aimlessly wandered through life with a depressed attitude toward the world
( The Lost Generation 1). Author Ernest Hemingway, who was himself a member of the Lost
Generation, perfectly encaptured the post war lifestyle of a WW1 veteran in his novel, The Sun

Barnes use of alcohol began during the war, while trying to escape the stress of the unknown
threats, and continued after the war s conclusion. By drinking, Barnes is able to forget his
melancholy post war attitude towards the world. The dependence on alcohol is a side effect of
the mental damage Barnes sustained from the war. Drinking is also how Barnes friend
Campbell copes with his outlook on the world after the war. After discussing his fiancee, Brett,
and her relationship with a bullfighter, Campbell, also a WW1 veteran, exclaims, I think I ll stay
rather drunk. This is all awfully amusing, but it s not too pleasant. It s not too pleasant for me
(Hemingway 205). In order to deal with the stress of having his fiancee in a relationship with a
bullfighter, Campbell decides to drink. He prefers to remain in a state of intoxication because it
keeps him from thinking about his relationship issues with Brett and his other problems with the
world by giving him a sweet escape. Hemingway s use of the drinking motif, especially shown
through Barnes and Campbell, demonstrates how the psychological and emotional damage of the
war has caused the Lost Generation to become dependent on alcohol in order to cope with their
depressed attitude toward the world. In addition to the drinking motif, Hemingway s writing style
conveys the theme of negative views towards the world created from the emotional suffering of
World War 1. Throughout

As the fourth brightest object in the sky, the knowledge of Jupiter has been around and mildly

Causes Of The New Deal
The Great Depression of the 1930 s became one of the United States biggest tragedies and placed
stress upon millions of Americans and their families. President Franklin Roosevelt became every
American s hopeful savior. During this decade of depression, President Roosevelt created the New
Deal blueprint, which included many Federal Agencies, otherwise known as Alphabet Soup, that
focused on addressing the roots of the Great Depressionand ways to fix them. The main agencies of
the New Dealwere the: Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), Civilian Conservation
Corps (CCC), National Recovery Administration (NRA), Social SecurityAdministration (SSA),
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and Works Progress Administration (WPA). The New Deal was
a successful plan, which included many federal agencies; although most of the agencies were
successful, the relief agencies were the most successful.
President Roosevelt s Alphabet Soup Agencies were created based on his three r s mission:
relief, recovery, and reform. His idea of relief was giving direct aid to the homeless and
unemployed. His goal for his idea of recovery was fixing the economy and focusing on creating

The recovery based Agriculture Adjustment Administration (AAA), was the first federal program
to place a limit on agricultural production. During the World War One (WWI), agricultural
production was very profitable for Americans because many European countries were unable to
produce large amounts of agriculture, so American agriculture was always in high demand. After
WWI ended, Europeans were able to begin to restore their agricultural industry; thus, making
American agriculture in low demand. This caused items like corn to go from $1.20 per bushel to
26 cents per bushel. Not only agriculture prices retract back to prewar prices, but farmers began

Use Of Magic, Spells, Creatures And Magical Devices
Throughout the Harry Potter series you are introduced to many forms of magic, spells, creatures
and magical devices. One of the very first devices used in the series appears in the first book and
is one of the main components to the book and a driving role in the plot even giving the book a
title. That device is the Philosopher s stone, also known as the Sorcerer s stone. An extraordinary
alchemist in the wizarding world and long time friend of Albus Dumbledore, Nicolas Flame,
created the stone. The stone is used to create the Elixir of Life potion. When someone drinks the
Elixir of Life their life is extended however long they want as long as they keep taking the potion

Professor Quirrell. All seven creatures or enchantments work to protect the stone from
Voldemort. However, throughout the year, Harry, Hermione, and Ron become suspicious of
Snape and think that he is going to try and steal the treasured stone. Acting on their suspicions
the three friends get past the seven complications Harry ends up having to duel Lord Voldemort

them both, Quirrell s life is lost and Lord Voldemort is diminished from this world again. After
the battle Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel decide to destroy the stone so that Voldemort could
not get ahold of it at a later date. Since the stone is what was keeping Nicolas Flamel and his wife
alive, they both ended up dying with the destruction of the stone. Like many other aspects of the

political styles seen in the stone is perfectionism. The stone s main uses are for

Buying Feminine Hygiene Products For People Magazine s...
ADVERTISER AND MEDIUM The advertiser for this product is Energizer, who is a
manufacturer. This advertisement was shown in People magazine s July 2015 edition.
MARKET SITUATION Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its
competitors, so its important for their ads to really resonate with their target market.
Competition in this industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost
leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are sold in Target, Walmart, and
drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider with this industry are
the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be embarrassed when
buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but the fact is
that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these type
of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works,
they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go
quickly. TARGET MARKET CUSTOMER PROFILE This print ad was published in People
magazine. 70% of people s readers are women, the majority of them falling into the 18 44 age
range, with median age of 38. Most of the women readers are employed, with college degrees.
Another percentage of readers are women with one or more children in their household (42%).

The War Is Tearing The Country Of Syria Apart
The year is 2011 and war is tearing the country of Syria apart. The people have had enough and
begin to run to their neighboring countries of Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq (Rogers, Syria:
The story of the conflict BBC News ). More than four million refugees fled to these lands and
thousands more fled to other countries. Now in 2015 the refugee count is up to over 4,000,000
refugees along with more refugees crossing in European Unionmember states (Rogers, Syria: The
story of the conflict BBC News ). Now these European countries face the issue of holding more
population than the government was designed to provide for. The crisis of the refugees is also
beginning to spread to the United States. Michigan is willing to open its doors to more than 10,000
Syrian refugees. Although the idea of showing kindness to our neighbors is presented by these
nations, the holding of refugees is effecting the everyday lives of the people and the economies of

Essay about Vitiligo and Michael Jackson
Vitiligo is a skin disease in which there is a loss of pigment (color) from areas of skin, ending in
abnormal patches that feel like normal skin. Vitiligo affects 0.5 1% of people worldwide. That
means about two million people are affected by this disease in this country alone. Compared to
how many people live on this earth , the number isn t that large. It s pretty rare to have this
disease. One of the two million people that was affected by this disease was a music icon, the king
of pop, Michael Jackson. Throughout his life, Michael s appearance transformed, especially the
color of his skin. The color of his skin became substantially lighter and in such little time. People

Like Dr. Morgan said, the reason people get vitiligo is unknown. Even though a person can get it
at any time in their life, people usually get it between the ages of 10 and 30. It does not matter
whether you are a female or a male or your race; anybody can contract it. At the moment it s
believed that a person cannot be born with it. For vitiligo to be diagnosed, a doctor needs a
precise history of illnesses the patient may have had, family history and scrutiny of a
characteristic lesions. There is no clear pattern of inheritance and no one yet knows which (if
any) gene or group of genes is responsible for the condition in humans , said Dr. Morgan. In an
interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 1993, Michael said, It s in my family, my father
said it s on his side. I can t control it, I don t understand, I mean, it makes me very sad . Skin
disorders like tinea versicolor need to be excluded. Mostly doctors diagnose by observation. The
loss of pigmentation is more noticeable in people with darker skin. The doctor can order a skin
biopsy to make sure the patient does not have another disease that is not vitiligo. In some cases,
the doctor can suggest the patient get an eye examination to make sure they do not have uveitis (

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867 1959) is a renowned American architect, interior designer, writer, and
educator credited with the design of more than one thousand buildings. A devoted naturalist Wright
found inspiration in the western American prairie and felt man made structures should coexist with
humanity. Wright found his opportunity to display his talents after a young wealthy entrepreneur

extenuate the homes reoccurring exterior theme of horizontal lines but also highlight the

Summary Of Margaret Mead s Coming Of Age In Samoa
In Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead, she exemplifies and puts emphasis on the idea of
socialization through the view of the Samoan girl, and we also see what her sexuality is as she
becomes an adult and has to deal with marriage. Before reading the book I never knew that different
cultures like the Samoan cultureviewed everything in their daily lives different than how we view
it in ours. After learning about the Samoan culture in the book, it gave me a new perspective and
how to view the world around me because the book discussed key concepts I didn t expect to be
interesting.
The Samoan culture and how socialization turns into sexuality for young girls is very different
compared to our culture. In the Samoan culture sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently
than we see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she
views the sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions Virginity is a legal requirement for her
(Mead 69). When Mead discusses this, it is interesting how in that culture virginity is a
requirement and that is something we don t see as a requirement in our society today. This
demonstrates how the sexuality of a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. The way girls are
seen because of their sexuality is incomparable to girls in our society today and that s important to
observe since Samoan culture is by far very different to what we view as part of culture today. In
Samoan culture, socialization is an

Foreign Direct Investment As A Key Component Of Economic...
Foreign Direct Investment as a key component of economic globalization could play a prominent
role in stimulating economic growth through capital formation, technology transfer and enhancing
employment opportunities in the developing countries like Nepal. Nepal and India both have
liberalized foreign investment policies that would help promote FDI in Nepal (Dahal et.al. 2004).
Despite significant liberalization of the foreign investment regime and the introduction of attractive
investment incentives, Nepal s achievements, both in terms of the volume of FDI and its
developmental impact, failed to match national expectations (Athukorala, et.al., 2006) The
country has not been able to draw on the potential technological and other contributions that FDI
can make to the process of development (Pant, 2010). A restrictive FDI regime, high import
tariffs, exit barriers for firms, stringent labor laws, poor quality infrastructure, centralized decision
making processes, and lack of export processing zones and Export Trading House make Nepal an
unattractive investment location (Regmi, 2012). Nepal s FDI potential is heavily under exploited,
despite the fact that the country offers a huge potential not only for market seeking investors but
also resource seeking ones (Adhikari, 2013a).. Moreover, Nepal is the worst performer in South
Asia (and one of the worst ones in the world) in terms of attracting FDI (Adhikari, 2013b). The

Changing Perspective Toward Health And Illness Essay
Over past 150 years, the world has witnessed changes in environment, society and people s
lifestyle that alter human disease patterns and distribution. Leading causes of death shift from
infectious to chronic diseases (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). To effectively tackle new health
issues, changing perspective toward health and illness is required (Engel, 1977). In this
assignment, transition from biomedical model to the social models in response to changes in
health trend will first be discussed and followed by the application of social models to explain the
high rates of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease(RHD) in New Zealand (NZ).
Urbanisation and industrialisation in 1990s led to overcrowding and poor sanitation resulting in the
spread of cholera, TB, typhoid, influenza, and malaria. These infectious diseases were the main
cause of mortality rate during that time (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). After WWII, there was a
rapid fall in global mortality rates due to improved public health standard that curtailed, if not
eradicated various infectious diseases (Browne, 2005).
The improved longevity was very obvious especially in developed countries, for example, U.S.
population life span was 47 years in 1900s but had reached 77 years by the end of the 20th century
(Stien, 2008). This was accompanied by an epidemiological transition to new patterns and
distribution of disease, from infectious to chronic, degenerative diseases such as cancer, RHD,

On Going Home Joan Didion Analysis
On Going Home was published in Slouching Towards Bethlehem around 1960. Joan Didion s
article, On going home, is a personal narrative about Joan s outlook of what home truly is. In the
article, Joan Didion describes her home and some of the events that occurred to paint a picture of
how her home was and what she considered home for that; while also showing her concerns of her
daughter considering the home she is creating, a good home. An element that catches the reader s
eye throughout Joan Didion s article, On Going Home, is Joan Didion s tone and style; both of
which clearly present her thoughts to the reader. Joan Didion s writingstyle for On Going Home
includes her using parenthesis to show her thoughts, scattered narration, strong emotive language,
and using fragmented sentences. Along with that, Joan Didion s tone during her writing was sad
and frustrated and her language throughout On Going Home reflected that.
The part that stands out the most with Didion s writing style is how she writes her sentences.
Many of Didion s sentences follow the stream of consciousness or are more of interior
monologue. An example of this is in her statement when she said, What could that girl possibly
make of, say, Long Day s Journey into Night? Who is beside the point?. (Didion 2) This sentence
shows how Didion would phrase her sentences as if they were just her thoughts. Along with this,
Didion also had scattered narration in her article; which makes her writing seem even more as if
it is just her thoughts as she looks through her childhood home. The scattered narration in Didion s
article also showed her perception of her childhood home in a way. Another technique that Didion
used in her writing was to have sentence fragments. Many of the sentence fragments used in Joan
s writing seemed to paint a better picture for the reader to clearly see what Didion was seeing
without using action verbs which can occasionally take the reader away from imagining what the
author was describing. Along with that, the sentence fragments can also make the reader feel
overwhelmed which could also be how Didion was feeling as she stayed at her childhood home
and tried to piece together her thoughts. Joan also used parenthesis in

CPU
The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is a computer component that converts data input into
information output. It is a complicated and broad set of electronic circuits that performs compiled
instructions. All computers and laptops must have a central processing unit to operate as it acts as
the brain of the device. There are numerous ways of referring to a CPU, such as processor,
microprocessor or central processor. Compared to some older models, the more recent models are
small, square and have connectors underneath it. The CPU is attached to the slot or socket of the
motherboard. It is usually secured and held down by a small lever.

Within a program exists millions of instructions, which are each stored at a specific address. These
instruction addresses are recorded by the program counter. The program counter is a system within
the CPU that takes note of the position of the CPU when a program is running, which are the
instruction addresses. Addresses are transferred through the address bus to be used from the
memory while instructions go through the data bus to reach the instruction register.
Decode The CPU has an assembler that is able to translate Assembly Language into binary code.
From this, instructions can be read and executed. Assembly Language is a language that only the

Despite what code a program is written in, the code will be broken down to the CPUs Assembly

possible step is to use its Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), which is able to process and calculate

Romance Essay
Romance is something that should never end. Romance brings love, happiness, and a joyful life.
One of the true definitions of romance is, an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an
especially heroic era, adventure, or activity (Romance, n.d.). However, when someone thinks of
romance they can see how much of a concept it is. It could be different for everyone because not
everyone s definition of romanceor romantic activity is the same. For a man named Jim, it could
be him offering his arm to a woman when they are walking. Yet, on the other hand, for a random
girl named Emily, it could be having the man walk on the streetside of the sidewalk so he could

society encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic

liked and what they did not like in a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also
discussed how romance had fit in on this new practice:
Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction.
Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young
women, perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a
time of freedom and choice.
The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to
reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the
garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were
talking to the lady. They either had to teach themselves based on what the woman they were trying

Criticisms On Porter s Theory
4) Criticisms on Porter s Theory There have been many different reactions towards Porter s theory
on how nations ought to compete. Some responses were validated while others rebutted his theory.
Firstly, the positive response will be discussed before focusing on the criticisms of Porter s theory.
Oz (2002) implemented Porter s Diamond model to analyse the competitive advantage of five
Turkish industries and the outcome was favourable and thus validated Porter s theory. For example,
the uncompetitive Turkish automobile industry resulted in uncompetitive companies, while the
presence of demanding buyers and hence intense local rivalry in Turkish construction and leather
clothing industries pushed the companies to innovate and become globally competitive. The
Turkish findings by Oz thus validated Porter s theory that indeed, competitive industries of a nation
are inclined to cluster together. On the other hand, the criticisms of Porter s theory vary widely
from doubts on his theory s originality (Dunning, 1993; Grant, 1991; Rugman and D Cruz, 1993)
to the over reliance on global export shares as the measure of global competitiveness(Cartwright,
1993; Grant, 1991; Rugman and D Cruz, 1993). Porter s methodology was also denounced by
several academics, which will be discussed below (Dunning, 1993; Rugman and D Cruz, 1993;

Human Activities And Its Effects On The Ocean Tides Essay
Estuaries
An estuary is a partially enclosed body of water formed where the freshwater from the land mixes
and meets with saltwater from the sea. As a result, the salinity and water level among various other
factors, is dependent on the ocean tides.
80% of the world s cities are situated near an estuary. For its abundance in resources are crucial
to to the longevity of the cities. It is recognized globally as one of the most threatened ecologies in
the world. Human activities such as agriculture, waste water processing, land clearance,
introduction of exotic species have rapidly increased the erosion rate of rivers, and have redirected
river flows both into and within estuaries. This in turn leads to its accelerated aging process.
Sediments from rivers upstream are rapidly surging into the estuary at a rate more than the tide
could erode away. Estuaries that exist without human activities collect a net sediment layer of 1
millimetre per year. This is directly juxtaposed to the poorly maintained estuaries disrupted by
human activities, gaining a staggering net sediment layer of 20 millimetres per year. Eventually this
causes many estuarine ecologies to decay and render them incapable of supporting life.
The estuarine ecology is a spawning pool for many coastal organisms. Both visiting and local
species raise their young within the estuarine habitat. The habitat supports an enormous range of
species, such as shellfish, crabs, marble worms, algae, mangroves, cockles and

How Did Walter Vrba Help People
Officials Struggling To Condense Trump s Intelligence Briefing Down To One Word is just one
example of all the fake news websites on the internet today. Rudolf Vrba had the hardship of many
governments not taking his information about the Holocaust seriously and he had the hardship of
trying to get his ideas to save people s lives. The first concrete facts about the Holocaust came from
Rudolf Vrbaand he had the responsibility to deliver his information to people. Rudolf Vrba made
me realize that my experience of events matter, and the lives of others truly matter.
Walter Rosenberg, who later changed his name to Rudolf Vrba, was 15 when he was locked out
his school because he was Jewish. Walter Rosenberg then went on to work in a factory until 1942,
where he was arrested and sent to the concentration camp of Maidanek. He later was sent to
Auschwitz. He managed to escape the camp by hiding under a pile of wood until the ... Show more

Moral courage is the selfless act of putting others before yourself. Rudolf Vrba demonstrated that
idea wonderfully. Vrba risked being caught by the Germans again by giving different
governments diagrams of the gas chambers. He knew that the right thing to do was to fight for
the people of his religion and try to save as many people as he could. He fought for his ideas to
be known and brought out proof of the horrors of the Holocaust. He used his experience as an
example of how cruel the Germans truly were and wanted countries to fight against them to set
people free. Rudolf Vrba could have escaped Auschwitz and just hid forever and never come out
about what he went through. Most importantly, he used his escape as a second chance. He used
that second chance to the fullest by fighting for what was right. I think this man showed the whole
world what courage really was and what it truly meant to stand up for what you believe

Modern day organizations have to constantly change to meet the demands of customers. Workers
have to change with the organizations to be able to perform new functions and complete new
sophisticated tasks.
Not only the type of the work employees are required to do changes, place, method, and

Being resilient means being able to act adequately in demanding situations, avoid unwanted
developments during the course of working day, and make the most of opportunities in spite of all
the turmoil associated with the organizational change.
Organizations have to design and implement effective programs of resilience to ensure their own
survival (Mallak, 1998). Resilient organizations are the organizations that maintain their
profitability even when going through major transformation. This is due to the fact that its
employees do not need much time to adapt to new realities or to recover from stress associated
with the change.
Defining Resilience
Resilience translates from Latin as to leap back and can be defined as the ability to recover from
or easily adjust to misfortune or change (Russell Consulting, Inc., 2007).
Lee (2008) writes that resilience refers to a person s capacity to handle difficulties, demands, and
high pressure without becoming stressed.
Lee divides the notion of resilience into four separate facets :
1.The ability to not sweat the small stuff Resilient workers maintain their good cheer despite all the
small frustrations accompanying the employees through their working day (Lee, 2008).
2.Ability to perform under high pressure Resilient workers cannot be overwhelmed by minor
difficulties at work place, neither pressure exercised upon them can

The Issues Of Cyber Bullying Coastal Carolina University The Issues of Cyber bullying Alyssa Staub CSCI 101 D1 Professor Matthews October 23, 2017 Cyber bullying has been a topic for scholarly inquiry, political debate, and policy reform since the commercialization of the Internet. Pre internet bullying involved socially marginalized children and teenagers picking on their friends and other marginalized children at school. Traditional discipline included detentions, phone calls to their parents, and some type of discipline between the children involved. Today however, for bullies has dramatically changed and the risk reward balance has been significantly tilted in favor of the bullies. The Emergence of Technology Today, bullies can... This paper will also try to make a case for why bullying in these virtual gaming worlds can be more damaging to participants than traditional bullying. Cyber Bullying as a Criminological Issue The world has adopted the Internet as one of the most popular mediums for exchanging information, and criminologists need to be well versed in its complexities in order to make meaningful, relevant, and thought provoking research. Cyber bullying piggy backs on the foundations of traditional bullying in principle, but provides instigators with a presumed veil of anonymity which modernizes the bullies process of bullying. Bullies naturally have less inhibition when they are bullying online because they can be safe at home without fear of repercussion. This is extremely troubling considering there is very little fear of reprisal in an online environment. There are no internet police actively monitoring conversations or information. The cold truth is that nothing will ever happen to a cyber bully unless the victim(s) report it and pursue it legally. The situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author of the article is Charles Krauthammer. Krauthammer is a weekly writer for The Washington Post, a Fox News commentator, and a Pulitzer Prize recipient (Charles Krauthammer). This piece argues for a diplomatic solution to the North Korean crisis in which China places strong pressure on the North Korean government in order for them to give up their nuclear program. Even North Korea did have the capability to miniaturize a nuclear bomb, their ballistic missiles do not have the capability to reach mainland United States. Nonetheless, North Korea does have additional missiles in development (North Korean Ballistic Missile Models, 2016). The following paragraph states that the North Koreans have made significant progress with solid fuel rockets (Krauthammer, 2017). According to a report in The Telegraph, North Korea has made progress with solid fueled rockets. Nevertheless, it is not clear if the North Koreans have the ability to store the solid fuel long term. This paragraph also states that solid fueled rockets are harder to shoot down. While this is true, in most cases the rocket have reduced launch times and countermeasures. Paragraph four is where the author misleads the audience. He states that North Korea has an estimated 10 to 16 [nuclear weapons]. By 2020, it could very well have a hundred (Krauthammer, 2017). This estimate was taken out of the incorrect context. This information is based on a quotation from the top North Korean analyst at Johns Hopkins University. A Look Into Game Theory Essay The origins of Game Theory trace back to a letter written by Francis Waldegrave in 1713 which proposed a minimax mixed strategy solution to a two person card game named le Her. In the following century Charles Darwin acted as one of the pioneers in broadening the realm of this theory into the biology of evolution as he applied the theoretic strategy in his argument of natural selection power to equalize the sex equilibrium ratio in nature. Game Theories initial applications were restricted to two person zero sum games where the pay off matrix was symmetric, or in other words that the sum of the payoffs to the two participants maintains a constant value. If we apply the Nash equilibrium conditions into a situation where there exists an option for both players to cooperate or to be non cooperative, and none of these participants are aware of the other s decision, but still knows that she/he can choose either, we have started to establish conditions ideal for the Prisoner s dilemma. Here each party will look to adapt a dominant strategy, one that produces an outcome that is most beneficial to them regardless of the other party s strategy. Although it would be advantageous to each party if they both chose to cooperate, a decision is made when they each choose a non ideal outcome to protect themselves at the expense of the other party. Here is where the paradox is made; each participant has followed a completely logical thought process, yet finds themselves in a worse situation than the hypothetical situation in which they both cooperated. The logic that brings about this outcome comes from the uncertainty in the other party s decision. The dilemma s that often arise in the world of dating are extremely applicable to such modes of thinking. One of the most commonly occurring dilemma of dating and relationships is the decision to cooperate or not in the face of any sort of mistreatment. One of the most significant results of World War 1 was the formation of a lost generation. Author Ernest Hemingway, who was himself a member of the Lost Generation, perfectly encaptured the post war lifestyle of a WW1 veteran in his novel, The Sun Also Rises. The story is narrated by Jake Barnes, a newspaper writer living in Paris,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Barnes use of alcohol began during the war, while trying to escape the stress of the unknown threats, and continued after the war s conclusion. By drinking, Barnes is able to forget his melancholy post war attitude towards the world. The dependence on alcohol is a side effect of the mental damage Barnes sustained from the war. Drinking is also how Barnes friend Campbell copes with his outlook on the world after the war. After discussing his fiancee, Brett, and her relationship with a bullfighter, Campbell, also a WW1 veteran, exclaims, I think I ll stay rather drunk. This is all awfully amusing, but it s not too pleasant. It s not too pleasant for me (Hemingway 205). In order to deal with the stress of having his fiancee in a relationship with a bullfighter, Campbell decides to drink. He prefers to remain in a state of intoxication because it keeps him from thinking about his relationship issues with Brett and his other problems with the world by giving him a sweet escape. Hemingway s use of the drinking motif, especially shown through Barnes and Campbell, demonstrates how the psychological and emotional damage of the war has caused the Lost Generation to become dependent on alcohol in order to cope with their depressed attitude toward the world. In addition to the drinking motif, Hemingway s writing style conveys the theme of negative views towards the world created from the emotional suffering of World War 1. Throughout ... • 20. Causes Of The New Deal The Great Depression of the 1930 s became one of the United States biggest tragedies and placed stress upon millions of Americans and their families. President Franklin Roosevelt became every American s hopeful savior. During this decade of depression, President Roosevelt created the New Deal blueprint, which included many Federal Agencies, otherwise known as Alphabet Soup, that focused on addressing the roots of the Great Depressionand ways to fix them. The main agencies of the New Dealwere the: Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), National Recovery Administration (NRA), Social SecurityAdministration (SSA), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and Works Progress Administration (WPA). The New Deal was a successful plan, which included many federal agencies; although most of the agencies were successful, the relief agencies were the most successful. President Roosevelt s Alphabet Soup Agencies were created based on his three r s mission: relief, recovery, and reform. His idea of relief was giving direct aid to the homeless and unemployed. His goal for his idea of recovery was fixing the economy and focusing on creating jobs and establishing new successful small businesses. Lastly, President Roosevelt s goal for the nation s reform was to solve issues within the federal government and create new federal agencies that would prevent another Great Depression. These three R s were the basis of his New Deal project and the foundations of every Alphabet Soup Agency. The recovery based Agriculture Adjustment Administration (AAA), was the first federal program to place a limit on agricultural production. During the World War One (WWI), agricultural production was very profitable for Americans because many European countries were unable to produce large amounts of agriculture, so American agriculture was always in high demand. After WWI ended, Europeans were able to begin to restore their agricultural industry; thus, making American agriculture in low demand. This caused items like corn to go from $1.20 per bushel to 26 cents per bushel. MARKET SITUATION Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its competitors, so its important for their ads to really resonate with their target market. Competition in this industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are sold in Target, Walmart, and drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider with this industry are the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be embarrassed when buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but the fact is that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these type of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works, they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go quickly. Summary Of Margaret Mead s Coming Of Age In Samoa In Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead, she exemplifies and puts emphasis on the idea of socialization through the view of the Samoan girl, and we also see what her sexuality is as she becomes an adult and has to deal with marriage. Before reading the book I never knew that different cultures like the Samoan cultureviewed everything in their daily lives different than how we view it in ours. After learning about the Samoan culture in the book, it gave me a new perspective and how to view the world around me because the book discussed key concepts I didn t expect to be interesting. The Samoan culture and how socialization turns into sexuality for young girls is very different compared to our culture. In the Samoan culture sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently than we see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she views the sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions Virginity is a legal requirement for her (Mead 69). When Mead discusses this, it is interesting how in that culture virginity is a requirement and that is something we don t see as a requirement in our society today. This demonstrates how the sexuality of a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. Foreign Direct Investment as a key component of economic globalization could play a prominent role in stimulating economic growth through capital formation, technology transfer and enhancing employment opportunities in the developing countries like Nepal. Nepal and India both have liberalized foreign investment policies that would help promote FDI in Nepal (Dahal et.al. 2004). Despite significant liberalization of the foreign investment regime and the introduction of attractive investment incentives, Nepal s achievements, both in terms of the volume of FDI and its developmental impact, failed to match national expectations (Athukorala, et.al., 2006) The country has not been able to draw on the potential technological and other contributions that FDI can make to the process of development (Pant, 2010). A restrictive FDI regime, high import tariffs, exit barriers for firms, stringent labor laws, poor quality infrastructure, centralized decision making processes, and lack of export processing zones and Export Trading House make Nepal an unattractive investment location (Regmi, 2012). Nepal s FDI potential is heavily under exploited, despite the fact that the country offers a huge potential not only for market seeking investors but also resource seeking ones (Adhikari, 2013a).. Changing Perspective Toward Health And Illness Essay Over past 150 years, the world has witnessed changes in environment, society and people s lifestyle that alter human disease patterns and distribution. Leading causes of death shift from infectious to chronic diseases (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). To effectively tackle new health issues, changing perspective toward health and illness is required (Engel, 1977). In this assignment, transition from biomedical model to the social models in response to changes in health trend will first be discussed and followed by the application of social models to explain the high rates of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease(RHD) in New Zealand (NZ). Urbanisation and industrialisation in 1990s led to overcrowding and poor sanitation resulting in the spread of cholera, TB, typhoid, influenza, and malaria. These infectious diseases were the main cause of mortality rate during that time (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). After WWII, there was a rapid fall in global mortality rates due to improved public health standard that curtailed, if not eradicated various infectious diseases (Browne, 2005). The improved longevity was very obvious especially in developed countries, for example, U.S. population life span was 47 years in 1900s but had reached 77 years by the end of the 20th century (Stien, 2008). This was accompanied by an epidemiological transition to new patterns and distribution of disease, from infectious to chronic, degenerative diseases such as cancer, RHD, ... • 34. On Going Home Joan Didion Analysis On Going Home was published in Slouching Towards Bethlehem around 1960. Joan Didion s article, On going home, is a personal narrative about Joan s outlook of what home truly is. In the article, Joan Didion describes her home and some of the events that occurred to paint a picture of how her home was and what she considered home for that; while also showing her concerns of her daughter considering the home she is creating, a good home. An element that catches the reader s eye throughout Joan Didion s article, On Going Home, is Joan Didion s tone and style; both of which clearly present her thoughts to the reader. Joan Didion s writingstyle for On Going Home includes her using parenthesis to show her thoughts, scattered narration, strong emotive language, and using fragmented sentences. Along with that, Joan Didion s tone during her writing was sad and frustrated and her language throughout On Going Home reflected that. The part that stands out the most with Didion s writing style is how she writes her sentences. Many of Didion s sentences follow the stream of consciousness or are more of interior monologue. An example of this is in her statement when she said, What could that girl possibly make of, say, Long Day s Journey into Night? Who is beside the point?. (Didion 2) This sentence shows how Didion would phrase her sentences as if they were just her thoughts. Along with this, Didion also had scattered narration in her article; which makes her writing seem even more as if it is just her thoughts as she looks through her childhood home. The scattered narration in Didion s article also showed her perception of her childhood home in a way. Another technique that Didion used in her writing was to have sentence fragments. Many of the sentence fragments used in Joan s writing seemed to paint a better picture for the reader to clearly see what Didion was seeing without using action verbs which can occasionally take the reader away from imagining what the author was describing. Along with that, the sentence fragments can also make the reader feel overwhelmed which could also be how Didion was feeling as she stayed at her childhood home and tried to piece together her thoughts. And these are the questions, we as Concordia Lutheran Church, have been asking and continue to ask. Our scripture today, not only ask the questions, but answers them, too. And we, as Concordia, can gain insight, excitement, and hope from the answers. My first few days with you, I was not here in Superior, I was at Heartwood Conference Center and Retreat in Trego attending the Fall Conference of our Northwest Synod of Wisconsin. I was able to meet many of the pastors from our synod. Thank you for giving me that opportunity. Our main speaker for the conference was Bishop Dick Graham, the bishop for Washington D.C. As we talked about priorities for congregations, synods, and our denomination, he focused on two Caring for the Poor and Making Disciples. That s what we are to be about as a church. And that s exactly what our lessons for today talk about. Our Old TestamentText from Amos speaks judgment against those not caring for the poor. Not caring for the poor is not something new. As we read the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament), we constantly hear God calling the Israelites to care for the poor and judgment when they do not. Overall, I think congregations and our ELCA do a pretty good job with caring for the poor. Yet there are always ways to do more and ways to change the system that often hurts ... • 39. Romance Essay Romance is something that should never end. Romance brings love, happiness, and a joyful life. One of the true definitions of romance is, an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an especially heroic era, adventure, or activity (Romance, n.d.). However, when someone thinks of romance they can see how much of a concept it is. It could be different for everyone because not everyone s definition of romanceor romantic activity is the same. For a man named Jim, it could be him offering his arm to a woman when they are walking. Yet, on the other hand, for a random girl named Emily, it could be having the man walk on the streetside of the sidewalk so he could protect her. Romancestarted centuries ago and is not going to end anytime soon.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, the idea of romance did not just pop up like a jack in the box. The origins of the modern celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L. Maurer (2017), from Nationals Women s History Museum had stated that During the 18th century, society encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic attachments. This was a decided change from past practice when marriages had been arranged...between families or clans. So the young people at that point had to figure out what they liked and what they did not like in a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also discussed how romance had fit in on this new practice: Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction. Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young women, perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a time of freedom and choice. The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were talking to the lady. They either had to teach themselves based on what the woman they were trying to pursue, or their father ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Criticisms On Porter s Theory 4) Criticisms on Porter s Theory There have been many different reactions towards Porter s theory on how nations ought to compete. Some responses were validated while others rebutted his theory. Firstly, the positive response will be discussed before focusing on the criticisms of Porter s theory. Oz (2002) implemented Porter s Diamond model to analyse the competitive advantage of five Turkish industries and the outcome was favourable and thus validated Porter s theory. For example, the uncompetitive Turkish automobile industry resulted in uncompetitive companies, while the presence of demanding buyers and hence intense local rivalry in Turkish construction and leather clothing industries pushed the companies to innovate and become globally competitive. The Turkish findings by Oz thus validated Porter s theory that indeed, competitive industries of a nation are inclined to cluster together. On the other hand, the criticisms of Porter s theory vary widely from doubts on his theory s originality (Dunning, 1993; Grant, 1991; Rugman and D Cruz, 1993) to the over reliance on global export shares as the measure of global competitiveness(Cartwright, 1993; Grant, 1991; Rugman and D Cruz, 1993). Porter s methodology was also denounced by several academics, which will be discussed below (Dunning, 1993; Rugman and D Cruz, 1993; Rugman and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. Human Activities And Its Effects On The Ocean Tides Essay Estuaries An estuary is a partially enclosed body of water formed where the freshwater from the land mixes and meets with saltwater from the sea. As a result, the salinity and water level among various other factors, is dependent on the ocean tides. 80% of the world s cities are situated near an estuary. For its abundance in resources are crucial to to the longevity of the cities. It is recognized globally as one of the most threatened ecologies in the world. Human activities such as agriculture, waste water processing, land clearance, introduction of exotic species have rapidly increased the erosion rate of rivers, and have redirected river flows both into and within estuaries. This in turn leads to its accelerated aging process. Sediments from rivers upstream are rapidly surging into the estuary at a rate more than the tide could erode away. Estuaries that exist without human activities collect a net sediment layer of 1 millimetre per year. This is directly juxtaposed to the poorly maintained estuaries disrupted by human activities, gaining a staggering net sediment layer of 20 millimetres per year. Eventually this causes many estuarine ecologies to decay and render them incapable of supporting life. The estuarine ecology is a spawning pool for many coastal organisms. Both visiting and local species raise their young within the estuarine habitat. The habitat supports an enormous range of species, such as shellfish, crabs, marble worms, algae, mangroves, cockles and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
