Use of Symbolism, Tone, and Irony in The Swimmer, by John...
Finding home boarded up; a sensation of coldness and unwelcoming takes over. Sudden
misfortunes arise from what was once a perfect life, and the world appears upside down. Attempts
to remember what went wrong fail. Memories are unclear and time seems blurry. At one time, John
Cheever found himself in this position, using alcohol to ignore his problems. John Cheeverwas born
in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1912. In 1941, he moved to suburban Westchester and eventually
became addicted to alcohol, which is a recurrent motif in many of his short stories. He died in 1982
from cancer. In his short story, The Swimmer, an affluent man named Neddy Merrill decides to
swim through all of the pools in his county to reach his own house. The... Show more content on

He rejected the changes that came with time and found himself confused. His situation gets
worse as time goes on. As the pace begins to slow... [and] Neddy s growing separation from
familiar natural and social worlds begin to increase (Morace). His inability to adapt to new
situations as he swam through the pools has caused society to ostracize him. At the beginning of
the story, he was ranked highly in society. At the end he is homeless and destitute. His reckless
decisions disregarding change have landed Ned where he is. Before he reaches the Welchers pool,
there is a thunderstorm that interrupts Ned s flow through the neighborhood pools. Previously,
there had been nothing that stopped Ned, but he could not help but notice that, It would storm.
The stand of cumulus cloud that city had risen and darkened, and while he sat there he heard the
percussiveness of thunder again (Cheever). The storm represents the rough, unpleasant changes in
life. After the storm, the neighbors become unfriendly, and even those who were ranked under
Ned before now disrespect him. Ned did not try to adapt to the storm, but rather opted out to wait
for it to pass under the Levy s gazebo. He waited for the problems to fix themselves, which did not
benefit him at all. The storm also plays with the idea of representing a period of time, because, Up
to the midpoint of the story, the thunderstorm... has seemed like it would last forever... By

Ilan Pappe s Definition Of Ethnic Cleansing
Israel successfully fought off the pan Arab army while other Israeli combatants terrorized and
depopulated the countryside. Ilan Pappe termed the depopulation of Palestinians as ethnic cleansing
but can this phrase be properly used when discussing the events of 1947 1948? To answer this
question one must determine if there is a well established definition of the phrase ethnic cleansing
and also establish that this was the intent of the Zionists, both initially and subsequently. This can
be determined by examining Zionist policy and action previous to the U.N partition plan and after,
which will demonstrate that the term is appropriately applied to the situation by Pappe.
The United Nations defines ethnic cleansing as; The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first English use of the phrase was used by Donald Forbes, a Reuters reporter, who was
quoting Croatia s Supreme Council: The aim of this expulsion is obviously the ethnic cleansing
of the critical areas . . . to be annexed to Serbia (New York Times). The phrase is used later to
define events in Serbia where Slobodan Milosevic, known as the Butcher of the Balkans, would
level cities, mass murder, and rape the local populations of Croatians which created 2 million
refugees (CNN). Again, the tactics are all too similar to those used by Israel to drive out the Arab
peoples. Moreover, the term is used today describe most cases of expulsion, imprisonment, or
killing of an ethnic minority by a dominant majority. It doesn t matter what definition you use or
what other historical examples you use to define the phrase because it doesn t change the main
purpose of Pappe s book, which is, to demonstrate that the Arabs were forcibly removed from
Palestine using violent and non violent means (Pappe 2). Pappe documents the events that led to
the mass expulsion of Palestinians from their lands, beginning with the Zionist vision from the
partition plan, forward. Also, Pappe uses oral history to fill the gaps in the Palestinians narrative,
along with military archives, and Ben Gurion s diary. The Jewish National Fund contained files that
were used to systematically eliminate Arab villages, and Plan D provides the

Personal Leadership Reflection
With a million ideas racing continuously over and over in my head, once again like many times
before, my struggle would present itself of not being able to write those ideas down on paper.
Years of nursing experience, and more recently managing the nursing informatics department,
carrying out ideas that would advance the flow of information and improve processes came so
easy for me; yet it was so difficult to present this in writingto the leadership group in our facility. To
confidently complete a walk through in each department in our hospital with the leadership,
verbalizing the changes that would take place was second nature for me. This walk through
demonstrated how the changes would improve not only the flow of information but also bridge
each department to function in unity. Understanding what needed to take place and following
through bringing about positive changes I was comfortable in performing, however, expressing
this in written format was something I needed to development considering my position as manager
of my department. To receive approval on any request for change, we were required to write our
proposalas a professional improvement (PI) project. The proposal would include, the reason for the
change, objectives, stakeholders involved, and set a timeline with target end date. The day would
come when I would begin my literacy development journey. Writing a professional improvement
proposal is one of the most important moments in my literacy development

My Most Memorable Vacation
The most memorable vacation I ve had is when I went to Hawaii. When my parents told me
where we were going, I knew it would be my most unique trip. We usually go on a vacation every
few years to somewhere that s warm during Minnesota s winter. Because of Hawaii s warm
climate, It was one of the best choices. Out of the five days we stayed there, one specific day
became the crowning moment of the whole trip for me. Even though the trip would be a long
eleven hour flight, I knew it would be worth it.
On that day my family and I decided to go to a beach that was very popular among the locals for
its beauty. Luckily I didn t bring my phone with me because I wouldn t of noticed how beautiful
the beach turned out to be. Once we started driving, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We ended up driving around the lot a total of three times before someone finally left. A wildlife
protection agency who wanted to restore the coral reefs in the Pacific owned the beach. They made
everyone who wanted to swim on their beach watch an hour long presentation on the do s and Don
ts of swimming on their reef. They strictly emphasized on not walking on the coral and staying a
good distance away from sea turtles. Eventually we were allowed to carry on down to the actual
beach. The staff members who presented the video led us out through a different set of doors
that opened to an overlook of the beach. The sky was partly cloudy with scattered rain storms
that covered an area no greater than a football field. Luckily, all the rain stayed offshore,
otherwise it would of been a crummy day. The beach overlook stood above a cliff of black rock
that surrounded the back side of the beach. Looking down, a small cluster of palm trees lined
along the base of the cliff which provided shade from the scorching sand. To the right of the
overlook a small paved road connected the buildings on the cliff to the beach below. Most of the
people walked down the side of the road while the elderly rode down on long trailers connected to a
golf cart which reminded me of something you would ride on during a Hollywood

Mondelez International, Inc. from origins in the National Dairy Products Corporation and the
original goal to unify the ice cream industry in the early 20th century to its present status as an
international giant in the snack food industry is a history lesson in the evolution of business. To
report that the company Mondelez International, Inc. (Mondelez International as its employees
know it) is a leader in the field of snack and beverage sales is a gross understatement of the
company as a whole. The company s inspiration is found in its unusual mission statement and its
core values, which, strangely enough, say nothing about the company s snack products, traditional...

Even through years of an economic recession which began in 2008, the company actually
performed relatively well. Because consumers were eating more at home and less in restaurants,
the company was positioned to take advantage of conservative shoppers. In an interview with
USA Today, CEO Rosenfeld commented that, even though the economy had softened worldwide,
We re seeing (strength in) products that provide obvious value: powdered beverages like Kool Aid
and Crystal Light ( CEO Forum ). When the global food market began to see recovery, Mondelez
International experienced that recovery in its bottom line. In its results for the third quarter ending
September, Mondelez s net earnings rose 57.1% to $1.02 billion, from $652 million in the same
quarter last year (Khan). The future also looks promising for the company as it continues to focus
on emerging markets. Despite the mixed performance, Mondelez is well positioned for long term
growth in the emerging markets. While it has witnessed revenue declines in China, it still remains
the leading player in the biscuits, coffee and gum categories in the country (Kahn). Throughout any
economic global downturn, the company has not strayed from its commitment to diversity, and

Team Effectiveness
3.3 Review of effectiveness of a team
Team effectiveness
Team effectiveness is the capacity a team needs to perform the goals directed by the organization. A
team is a gathering of people who are interdependent in their tasks, share responsibility regarding
results, and view themselves as a unit embedded in an institutional or organizational system which
operates within the established boundaries of that system. Teams have set up a synonymous
relationship within the limitations procedures and research relating to their effectiveness while as
yet maintaining their independence as two different units, as teams and their members are
independent of each other s role, aptitude, knowledge or purpose versus teams and their members,
who are interdependent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parties to a conflict often claim to have issues with the behaviour of co workers or the outcome of
company policies and work procedures, but these issues are likely being caused by something
deeper.
Equivalent Voices
Give an equal voice to all parties, without caring about their position, service or policy length.
People who participate in conflict can become defensive if they are being victimized or going
through a process up to that has the goal of a target that was already set.
Grievance Procedure
Employees should create a formal grievance procedure. Employees of every level should have the
potential to have their voices will be heard, and their issues should be quickly responded to. Bad
feeling can be prevented by conflict by growing into bitterness or resentment.
There are a steps in solving conflicts within the workplace.
1.The first step is to train the employees in resolving conflicts professionally without the
involvement of management. It is important for each team members understand the protocol to
decrease the amount of conflict between each other. The effective way to solve a conflict when it
arises is to involve all parties in a one to one meeting, and discuss them in different point of views.
In cases where there a no resolutions, the team can record the substances of the discussion and bring

The Utilitarian Theory Of Punishment
In this paper I will defend both the proponents and principles of the utilitarian theory of punishment,
namely addressing the utilitarian approach juxtaposed with the retributive. Before beginning to
make claims in any direction, a brief and to date synopsis of the utilitarian fundamentals regarding
punishmentwill be necessary. From there, I will present the utilitarian theories of punishment as not
only the most useful for a society, but also the best representation of criminal law being carried out
justly. Following this assertion I will refute objections made by retributivists, and in doing so
present a discovered common ground between the retributory criteria for just punishment and the
utilitarian theories. This will not serve to say I believe in impure retributivism over the utilitarian
theories, but rather will act as testament to the practicality of the utilitarian approach. Finally, I will
propose the most ethical response to criminality is found from the utilitarian fundamentals of
societal well being, mentioning specifically the vindictive theories of punishment as meeting the
utilitarian criteria. To the utilitarian, punishment is not an end in itself for the actions of a
wrongdoer. Utilitarians and I believe punishment should serve as a larger means to an end that will
benefit the future while righting the criminal actions of the past by employing deterrence,
rehabilitation, and the disablement of the unjust human in the perpetual attempt to increase overall

The Project Life Cycle Of The Production Bubble Gum And...
Introduction
Quality standards pervade all aspects of society, from quality management systems standards for
nuclear power stations to technical specifications for manufacturing bubble gum (Keystone and
Accountability, 2006). For NGOs, the story is no different(optic). In general, NGOs are engaged in
a wide range of activities, they set up projects to help people in poverty areas. But little attention
has so far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project
could not be guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of
uncertainties and flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006).
Therefore, the central argument of this article is going to find out how these two factors influence
the projects and which two quality management reforms could help to promote the NGOs project in
the context of a complex environment. In doing this, comparisons will be made with two examples
of Nokia and Lions Clubs International from their private sectors.
The Definition of Quality Management in NGOs
Quality (or performance)forms the third corner of time cost quality triangle which is the basis of
project management(Albert Lester, 2007). It is generally defined as a degree of excellence . In the
context of organizational performance it can be defined as the way in which an organization,
through its activities and underlying management systems, succeeds in meeting the needs of

Drum Major Failure
While the failures everyday teenagers go through pale in comparison to that of an adult, if I
were to pick one instance of failure, and the lessons entailed, it would be my rejection from
becoming my high school band s drum major. During my sophomore year, I signed up to try out
for drum major. There were five of us total, and only one of us could be the next drum major. The
audition was during band camp, and we have trained all summer for it. Unfortunately, I did not
succeed in becoming the next drum major. From this experience, I have learned that failure can be
a valuable teacher, to commit to areas where I find the most passion and to manage my tasks at
hand more effectively. My lessons started with failure. First, I learned that even in failure, there are
still lessons we can all learn. Instead of blaming someone and thinking nothing can be done, one

While I was training, I did not think much why I wanted to become a drum major. I only wanted
the attention from being a drum major, and this became clear during my audition. My frequent
embarrassing mistakes revealed my degree of dedication and everyone knew I lacked the
interest and the skill to become the next drum major. Realizing trying out for drum major was
not what I really wanted, it felt I have wasted my whole summer. Steve Jobs once said, The only
way to do great work is to love what you do . This quote accurately described my situation
because becoming a drum major was not something I loved. It was simply a way to achieve
something else I loved, and this ultimately costed me at the end. Now while applying to college to
become a veterinary doctor I can confidently say I am pursuing what I find truly empassionating.
However, instead of panicking and rushing to finish my applications all at once, I am facing them
one at a time with dedication. It is because the last lesson I learned has to do with time

CanGo Online Gaming Industry
The largest factor which must be examined in regards to CanGo entering the online gaming
industry is the probability of success, which is measured by profit. Upper management must
consider many financial factors that will be imperative to the overall success of the company. In
order to implement the new sector into the company auspiciously, expenses in relation to human
resources, supply and logistics management, marketing, and the procurement and deployment of
new and existing technology/methodologies must be examined. The company has currently
projected an increase of 500% in net sales which will cause an increase in expenses to
accommodate the resources required to handle the upsurge of demand. CanGo will need to hire
new personnel in order to maintain order demand and will also require new technical staff members
in order to implement and maintain the required hardware and software necessary for on line
gaming. CanGO must also account for storage and trucks required for shipping. One of the most
important and potentially largest expenses CanGo must consider is marketing in regards to the on
line gaming industry. Examining all previously mentioned items will assist in the assessment of
profitability for CanGo within the on line gaming industry. Recommendation: Many new businesses

What Defines Human Nature And The Hierarchy Of Human...
What defines human nature and the hierarchy of human relations? In this paper, I will argue that
Beauvoir s view that society constructs man, maleness, and the masculine as the human standard
(rendering woman, femaleness, and the feminine deviant and defective) is flawed. Although
Beauvoir s evidence was compelling I had several issues with some of the finer details such as what
term designates a humanbeing, that a woman s body is considered disadvantaged, and that female
nature is defective. I also disagree with her statement that woman can t think of herself without
man, woman is only a symbol of sex to man, and that man and woman are the Self and the Other.
Firstly, Beauvoir argues that man represents the positive and the neutral while woman represents
only the negative. I feel that this statement is saying that woman is only what man are not. By
making this assumption I infer that Beauvoir feels woman is only considered when man has
reached the limits of their reach. However, I believe that man the line separating man and
woman is inconclusive in its stance. When looking at what is considered masculine and what is
considered feminine, there are some relatable similarities. For example, the work ethic of a man
at work is similar to the work ethic of a woman at home. A man would be expected to complete
his work load in a proficient manner and bring home money to the family. A woman would be
expected to care for the family and the home in a proficient and timely

Sympatric Speciation Research Paper
In order to solve that question, let s follow me and Time travel to 55 millions years ago! There
was an animal the size of a small dog called Hyracotherium.Everyone would like it to be a pet. It s
the oldest found horse ancestor, They were scampering through the forests full of plants rich in
foliage that covered North America. For more than their history they lived in there, and horses
remained small, forest browsers. Their toes, four at the front and three at the back, sprawled out at
different angles which helped them from sinking in the marshy ground.
Until one day the changing climate Conditions allowed grasslands to expand, foliage plants
disappeared. And about 20 million years ago, many new species rapidly evolved. Some but not all
of the hyracotherium become bigger and stronger. And only those who become bigger and stronger
can run faster which lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

TA 13: Sec 01 Great Comedies for Theatre
Lysistrata Essay Lysistrata, written by playwright Aristophanes creates a play with an acute political
satire and a comedic mayhem about one woman s remarkable mission to end the Peloponnesian
War. In all, woman, Lysistrata, ends the war is by convincing all wives to withhold all sexual
privileges from their husbands. Thus forcing their husbands to end the war with peace. In this
comedic play many themes are highlighted throughout the scenes. One theme in particular spoke
of the Peloponnesian War and how this war between Athens and Sparta was a senseless waste of
lives, money and energy. As one of the women, Myrrhine, tells Lysistrata that she doesn t know
why her husband is at war or no clue what he s doing; Lysistrata says, ... Show more content on

The women s husbands have invested into the war that hasn t shown any impact. It soon becomes
tedious to both the men and their wives because there seems to be no change. Also with a long
ongoing war, great amounts of money are being used. Lysistrata states, To seize the treasury; no
more money, no more war. The investments that were going into the Peloponnesian war were all by
the treasury. With this quote, Lysistrata implies that she is determined to stop the men and
dishonest officials from stealing the treasury s money. Also when Lysistrata talks with the
Magistrate, she tells him that the women will seize Acropolis and handle administering the money.
This shows that the money the treasury owns is being used senselessly and they want a change for it.
This theme is just one of the many themes that are revealed throughout the play. Lysistrata is a
play of wives who try to make peace of a useless war. The women in the play go through sacrifice
and disagreements towards their husbands to try to stop the warfare and create a greater peace for
both city states

Synchronous Machine For A Motor And A Generator
Synchronous Machines Louis Meyer EE 3501 Section 3B November 7, 2014 Table of Contents
Abstract This report contains details from three lab experiments performed using a synchronous
machine for both a motor and a generator. The fundamental principle of a synchronous machine is
that the electrical frequency is related to the mechanical frequency. The first lab performed
consisted of doing two different tests, the open circuit and short circuit tests, respectively. By
performing these two basic tests, it can be determined the armature voltage and current changes
drastically with each test. The second lab performed required to use the synchronous machine as a
generator. When acting like a generator, it becomes necessary to... Show more content on

There are two primary synchronous machines, the synchronous generator and the synchronous
motor. Both machines are very useful depending on the application necessary for their use.
Depending on the external conditions, it is required to have an understanding of how the
synchronous machine should be modeled for each use. The synchronous machine is commonly
found in industrial settings, clocks, and power plants. The common factor between these fields is
the requirement of running at a constant speed. The synchronous generators used in power plants
are common because it is economically efficient to keep the generator running at a constant
frequency. Depending on the application, the synchronous machines can be modeled
proportionally between the mechanical frequency based on the number of poles and the
frequency of current (see theory). Consequentially, the electrical radian frequency is determined
be the electrical frequency. Modeling a synchronous machine is a simple task, provided the
necessary parameters are known. For this lab the model of the synchronous machine was already
considered. The synchronous machine being used had a rating of 208 V (line to line rms), 60 Hz,
and 200 W. It is a 4 pole machine with a synchronous speed of 1800 RPM. The open circuit and
short circuit tests performed in this lab can

Unprecedentedly, he became the first singer and songwriter who had ever earned the Nobel Prize
in Literature in history. The plausible reasons that Bob was elected mainly reflect in the poetic
lyrics Bob has in his songs and the enormous historical effects lyrics show. Bob Dylan, a rock
singer, songwriter of folk and country music, was born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24,

Lyrically, Tangled Up in Blue chronicles the rise and fall of two relationships: between an
unnamed he and she and between a first person narrator (also unnamed) and the same she.
(Barkhorn). In order to correctly express the emotion of the protagonists in the song, Dylan
basically utilizes all five senses, especially sight, touch, and hearing: I heard her say over my
shoulder/ We ll meet again someday on the avenue. (Dylan 24, 25). Dylan uses dark, sad night to
connect the color with the emotion. Darkness represents sadness; it shows that he feels so upset
that they split up. Drift down vividly tells the readers that he never finds a long time job because
he cannot find interests in doing these jobs but thinking about her . Dylan also makes images by
using disparate phrases. The quote But I never did like it all that much/And one day the ax just

with some specific words and phrases, Dylan transforms ordinary song lyrics into poetry, thus

Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own Essay
Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own
Missing works cited
In A Room of One s Own, Virginia Woolf ponders the plight of women throughout history. Woolf
reads the lives of women and concludes that if a woman were to have written she would have had
to overcome enormous circumstances (Woolfxi). Woolf s initial thesis is that a woman must have
money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction (Woolf 4). Throughout the book, however, she
develops other important conditions for artistic creation. Woolf mentions many nineteenth century
female writers in order to explain these conditions, but she does not mention Mary
Shelley. Woolf most likely excludes the author of Frankenstein because her writing contains
considerable male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rejection and discouragement from family, friends, and society fills her life. Because the world
will not permit the expression of her genius, she eventually commits suicide. Woolf argues that like
?Shakespeare?s sister,? any woman ?born with a gift for poetry in the sixteenth century was an
unhappy woman, a woman at strife against herself? (Woolf 50). Although the circumstances of
female writers greatly improve over the next 300 years, Woolf finds that ?even in the nineteenth
century a woman was not encouraged to be an artist. On the contrary, she was snubbed, slapped,
lectured and exhorted? (Woolf 55). Despite the great odds against her, a few women managed to
disregard their discouraging environments and write successfully. The conditions that they
overcame amaze Woolf: ?What genius, what integrity it must have required in face of all that
criticism, in the midst of that purely patriarchal society to hold fast to the thing as they saw it
without shrinking? (Woolf 74).
Unlike most nineteenth century female writers, Mary Shelley is supported in her intellectual
pursuits throughout her life. Although society discourages female writers, her family surrounds her
with constant encouragement. Shelley comes from a background of famous radical writers. The
political and moral writings of her father, William Godwin, are extremely influential during the
time. Her feminist mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, writes the controversial book, A

It is important to fight for what is right, like iconic activist Cesar Chavez had done.Chavez, a
child of Mexican American migrant farmers, was born in Arizona in 1927. He co founded the
National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) in 1962 and never stopped fighting for their
rights. In 1970, Chavez successfully pressured powerful grape growers to give farm workers a
contract with fair rights, wages, and respect. Cesar Chavez showed great courage and intelligence
in helping the cause and contributing to the civil rights movement. Cesar Chavez deserved to win
the 2018 UnidosUS award because of his effective use of economic pressure and he showed great
perseverance. Cesar Chavez deserved to win the award because he successfully used the strategy...

Cesar Chavez was a child of migrant workers and was born in 1927. He founded the NFWA, and
he never quit fighting for equality. Chavez, a former migrant worker said, I could dramatize it by
saying that I want to bring social justice to farm workers. But the truth is that I went through a
lot of hell, and a lot of people did. If we can even the score a little for the workers then we are
doing something. (Chavez, 2) This means that Chavez never gave up regardless of what he has
been through. When Chavez stated that he went through a lot, this shows that he never quit.
Chavez s perseverance helped the Chicanos get closer to their goal of equal rights. Despite what
he had been through, he never wanted to quit fighting. In addition, Cesar Chavez showed
perseverance during a protest march from Delano to Sacramento. Chavez, who was honored for his
great activism, started the march to get the attention of the country. As noted, during the 300 mile
march, Chavez sprained his ankle. When told to rest, Chavez declined and continued to march.
(Viva La Causa, 2010) When Chavez decided to still walk, it showed how passionate he was for
the cause. This implies that Chavez never quit fighting, even with a hurt ankle. Chavez s
perseverance is yet another factor that helped the

Self-Defense Legislation
Self defense is the right for an individual to use necessary force in order to defend oneself against
an unlawful force of another. Therefore, an act that is typically depicted as a crime is not
punishable under these circumstances. Joycelyn M. Pollock (2013) pointed out that, the right to
protect oneself, one s family, and one s castle is a time honored right that existed before the
common law and was recognized by it (P.101). Under common law, a criminal charge depended
upon a showing that the defendant believed force was necessary in order for self protection, upon
reasonable grounds, the threat was forthcoming, and the force was not excessively used (Pollock,
2013, 102). Today, self defense elements are different in each state.... Show more content on

Correspondingly, in some statues an agency cannot arrest an individual for the use of force
unless the force used was determined unlawful. Therefore, the Stand your Ground laws have
thoroughly extended self defense rights. Some states contain Make My Day laws, which allow
the use of deadly force for the protection of property when an individual believes that force is
necessary to prevent a criminal felony (Pollock, 2013, 106). An individual is also allowed to use
reasonable force even if the user does not feel an immediate threat but reasonably believes a crime
will occur. Originally, case law prohibited the use of weapons due to the possibility of hurting
innocent individuals such as a police officer trying to legally enter the premises. Nevertheless,
Stand your Ground laws have allowed the use of deadly force in order to protect against all possible
felonies. The extension and initiation of various self defense laws have caused nationwide
controversy. Advocates state that law abiding individuals should be allowed to protect themselves
unlawful force without the possibility of being criminally or civilly charged. Correspondingly, the
Second Amendment to the United States Constitution grants the federal right to bear arms
regardless of militia stature and upholds the natural rights of self defense. Likewise, legislators
argue that individuals visiting or residing in the United States contain the right to remain secure in

Canter Fair Description
We are peasants in medieval times that work hard every day and try to make a living and this is
our story. In a small home outside of Canterbury lived four men and their families named Arthur,
Drake, Griffo, and Hrodebert. All four of them were experienced armorers but they needed
money because they can t afford a simple meal. Our houses were made out of wood, straw, and
mud. At the first crack of dawn, we entered the kitchen for breakfast. We can t drink water
anymore due to a recent discovery of dirty water in rivers. Lately, we have been drinking ale or
cider. Our typical meals are dark bread, pottage, and soup. The pottage was flavored with
vegetables, beans, peas, bacon, salted pork. In the winter we had a few vegetables that we would eat

Then Arthur came up with a great plan. He said we should all make new sets of armor, better
sets of armor, way cooler sets of armor. We can make a bad set of armor and place it in the
middle, wait for the two men to return, follow them, attack their base, and finally get the armor
back! The 3 of them thought it was a great plan and so they all went back to the contest to start
crafting armors. As soon as they were done, they went to put the bad set of armor in the middle.
All of the sudden, a scream was heard from a distance. It was the city of Canterbury! All of the
fruits and foods have been stolen. The four boys went to see what had happened and who stole
the food. It was the two men. They were masked men, thieves. The four men quickly put on their
armor and rushed to find the men. It turns out, the men were none other than Gavin and Robin!
Gavin and Robin were there with a huge army standing behind them. The four boys slowly
backed away. The four boys the looked behind them to see all of the armorers that participated in
the contest in armor suits. Break a leg, Griffo! Hrodebert said sarcastically. Ha Ha, thats so funny!
Griffo exaggerated. Both of the armies started to attack. A war had begun. There was constant
fighting when in the end, the four boys and the brave fighters of Canterbury

Anti Hispanic Racism In America
When Americans think of racism, they usually think of slavery, and that racism is no longer a
problem in America. However, this is not the case. Racism is still obvious in America. Racism
can be linked directly to stereotypical mindsets of certain groups of people. Today s racism is not
restricted to whites and blacks, and it has come to define many different groups and races.
Pigmentation as well as physical characteristics and features still are influential for classifying
people. It is easy to overlook the racism that hides below the surface and is part of American life.
Today, an estimate 54 million Latinos live in the U.S. and around 43 million people speak Spanish.
Although Latinos are the country s largest minority, anti Latino prejudice is still common. Very few
Americans recognize, acknowledge, and respect the contributions of one of America s greatest
ethnic groups Hispanics. Americans are often confused as to who Hispanics really are and what
they represent in America. Although the United Statesis known for having a melting pot of diverse
cultures, recent studies have shown the rise of discrimination against Latinos and Hispanics
immigrants. A person s legal status should not be an excuse for mistreatment.
Civil rights have been the example of our constitutional history. How we treat and respect others has
been the foundation of American democracy, yet despite this constitutional and moral obligation,
modern day anti Hispanic racism continues to define who we

Behavior Of Fish In An Egyptian Tea Garden

IB English HL 2, Period 5
01/22/18
Behavior of Fish in an Egyptian Tea Garden Keith Douglas Behavior of Fish in an Egyptian Tea
Garden was written in 1968 and published in the Poetry of the Forties. The setting of the poem
takes place in an egyptian tea garden as presumably stated in the title. In the poem, Keith Douglas
strategically emphasizes a woman s ability to entice and seduce men with her beauty, as well as the
same woman being objectified through the usage of structure, language and style. To begin, the first
stanza introduces the woman and further establishes the setting. A simile is used to introduce a
woman who is being admired by other men, As a white stone draws down the fish/ she on the
seafloor of the afternoon/ draws down men s glances and their cruel wish/ for love (1). The woman
is representing the white stone which draws the attention of the fish, who represent men. However,
the white stone that represents the woman is ironic because the color white usually implies
innocence and purity, which is the opposite of the woman represented ... Show more content on

It also implies how women are objectified by men. The poem has 7 stanzas with 4 lines each,
showing a sense of balancement within the poem and the speaker. However, even though the poem
looks like it follows a rhyme scheme, it does not. The first four stanzas have a rhyme scheme
differing from one another and the last three stanzas have no rhyme scheme at all. This could
connect to the idea of relationships and the idea of appearance vs. reality. In other words, a
relationship might not be what it looks like, and could question the idea of love in general. The use
of structure, language and style was effectively used throughout the poem to emphasize the
objectification of women and their ability to seduce men with their

Beneath Clouds Belonging Analysis
Perceptions of belonging and not belonging can be influenced by connections to places. The
connection to the land for Aboriginals is a very crucial part of their identity, although got many
young Aboriginals it is very difficult for them to connect to their indigenous heritage, as well as
feeling alienated from the rest of AUstralia. This results in a connection to an alternate part of their
heritage resulting in the adoption of a utopian view of that culture. Aboriginals rarely feel a sense of
complete belonging due to wide range of sub cultures within the indigenous community and the
seperate nature adopted by them. The tragic nature of indigenous communities is conveyed in the
independent AUstralian film Beneath Clouds following two young... Show more content on

This can result in the rejection of the indigenous community. Ivan Sven has illustrated the active
choices made by Aboriginals to not belong and the resulting impacts. A prime example of this is
when Lena returns home at the beginning of the movie. Firstly, the utilisation of an establishing
shot capturing the home in conjunction with forlorn music illustrates the desolation assosciated
with the brother s arrest and the stark reality of her unfortunate predicament. This is further
emphasised through the utilisation of the symbolic distance and blur of the camera conveying an
emotional barrier in conjunction with the facial expression helping to consolidate the irretrievable
nature of her brother and arrested Aboriginal youths in general. Furthermore, as Lena walks inside
the house the negative tension towards the parents is conveyed through the application of a lack of
dialogue infering the long gone compassion between them in conjunction with an establishing shot
displaying the turmoil of the house. These techniques illustrate the alienation felt by Lena towards
her indigenous background and thus her family, resulting in the audience gaining a stronger
understanding of the factors feuling Lena s apathetic attitude perspective on her indigenous

Why Is Tricking Wrong
Tricking and Deceiving Making a person or thing hard to get is a bad way to get what one
wants, because it fools people and tricks them. According to The New York Times, in the article,
The States of Forced Labor , it states, First, securing a position often means paying a local
recruiter a $2,000 fee, usually obtained through a loan with an extortionate interest rate . . . the
terms of which may state that the job pays only $200 a month, far less than promised, with
housing costs deducted from that. This leaves approximately $100 a month barely enough to
cover the loan interest on their recruiting fee. (The New York Times). The Middle East created a
trick so many people that needed jobs would come. The jobless people do not know that... Show

For example by making work special other people are going to want to take over your work.
However this is incorrect, because this method actually teaches laziness. According to Scott
Francis, in the article Taking the Easy Way Out Instead of Doing the Hard Work , he states, It s
tempting to take shortcuts or the path of least resistance. But beyond being lazy, it can also
seriously undermine your recruiting goals and your reputation. Francis shows that taking the
easy way can result in serious trouble. Later in life people will stop working, trying to find the
easy way out. The problem with this is there isn t always an easy way out. In Mark Twain s
novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom tricks people into whitewashing for him by making
the job special and hard to do. Tom tells people that it has to be done in a very certain way so
other people will find it interesting. After Tom operates his method he goes away and plays with
toys. If Tom will never work he will become lazy and immature. In my life, these experiences
have happened. When I was younger I would try to make it so that counting numbers was fun.
Many people wanted to try to attempt my work at a price. After they stopped paying I
procrastinated my work at school because of laziness, and I had trouble keeping up. As shown
above, looking for an easy way out for work is not the answer, because this practice

Reasons For Japanese Internment
The Japanese internment mainly happened on the west coast of the United States it took place
during the World War II and there were a couple reasons why Americans interned the Japanese
during WWII. They interned because of their color/ appearance because there was only a
population on 300,000 Japanese people on the west coast they also didn t have no access to
anything. They did this because of many obvious reasons. They were interned because the United
Stateswanted to keep a look out as they were all seen as bad people after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
3000,000 Japanese people being interned, in each naval district there was about 250 to 300
suspects being spied on. 50 to 60 of each of them were labeled as really dangerous.
Since there was only 300K Japanese people and they had no access to anything then the only
thing they could be was becoming a farmer, fisher man, small businessman. They had not access
to plants or intricate machinery. Or being an intern they made you work for the war effort, making

And because they decided to segregate Japanese from the Americans. In 1906 The San Francisco

the only ones being highhanded but the government has not taken highhanded action against
Germans and Italians. There were no German or Italians put into such camps like the Japanese I
wouldn t agree nor disagree with Japanese internment because we had some good reasons to put
them into concentration camps but them having a different skin colors than the Americans,
Germans, and Italians should be no reason for that. Making them work for the war effort is fair
enough for what they did in Pearl

The Is An Integral Part National Security
Cybersecurity is an integral part national security. Cyber attacks are increasing in frequency and
success and can target virtually anything connected to a network. These threats can affect everyday
activities such as talking on a cell phone, driving a car, riding a train, shopping, or flying. They
can also affect the highest levels of our country s government, from a Secretary of State s email
server to the data base of millions of government and military employees. Nearly everything these
days is digital. That simple fact means that everything digital is vulnerable. From military
technology to a child monitor, the cybersecurity is paramount to national security, because if it can
be used to destroy or disrupt, an adversary will try to employ it in their favor.
Cybersecurity and US National Security Policy
The idea of cyber security actually originated following the Cold War, when technological
innovations were becoming more and more computerized and the threat of a digital Pearl Harbor
or the use of weapons of mass disruption were talking points of politicians and tech specialists
(Hansen, L., Nissenbaum, H., 2009, p. 1155). Modern society and specifically the US, as one of the
most technologically advanced nations in the world, is built on a system dependent on electronics,
telecommunications, energy, and a financial system heavily dependent on the internet, servers, and
connectivity (de Laat, W., 2012, p. 453). There is almost no such thing as stand alone

The Theme Of Murder In Macbeth
Shakespearean Murder Blood, death, and violence; these are just a few words that go along with
a way of death known as murder. It s one of the more common ways of dying and is frequently
seen on the news and social media. As such, people always seems to take an interest in this topic.
There s a mysterious attraction to the subject of murder, whether in a mystery book, on television
shows, or simply mentioned in a news article. What makes a death murder, though? Murder, as
defined by Oxford Dictionaries, is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by
another. Many simply define it as taking someone else s life. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare
illustrates the many forms of murder and establishes how it is wrong. One of the more interesting
parts of this way of death is the motive, or reason, people choose to murder one another. The
actual interest itself lies in the main four reasons for murder; to gain power, exact revenge, dispose
of any opposition or witnesses, and sometimes for sheer pleasure. In Macbeth, Shakespeare clearly

The State Of Maryland Was Considered A Border State
During The War Between the States, the State of Maryland was considered a border state. This
was because Maryland did not have a majority of its people backing either the Union or the
Confederacy. In addition, it was geographically located between the Northern free states and the
Southern slave states. Maryland was a dichotomy before the Civil War as the state had almost as
many free blacks as it did slaves. In early 1861, almost 84,000 free Negroes were identified while
more than 87,000 black and mixed race individuals were listed as slaves. Maryland was made up
of merchants and business people in the central and western parts of the state with primarily
farmers and slaveholders in the east and south. The merchant class, gaining control of the state
legislature, felt that a war with the North would be economically devastating and could destroy
their businesses. That was one of the main reasons Maryland did not initially join the Confederacy.
In addition, the state legislature felt they d be unable to protect their border with Pennsylvania, also
known as the 244 mile long Mason Dixon Line, from a Union invasion. They also feared a blockade
of Baltimore Harbor by the Union Navy. While the business faction supported the Federalist
philosophy of Washington and the North, many Marylanders sided with the State s Rights agenda
of the South. This schism caused massive upheaval in the state and many Southern sympathizers
moved to Virginia and North Carolina when the state

Fear is beneficial and dismissive

views, a happy life with scarce money? What was this? Surely a new outlook of life, a sufficient

Nuclear Weapons And Atomic Weapons Essay
Nuclear weapons are a threatening war tactic that has become more frequent in the new media,
especially in the past few weeks after Hillary Clinton released an updated version of the Daisy ad
inferring that if elected, Donald Trump will misuse the nuclear weapons of the United States.
Nuclear power is a big responsibility and since the start of its use, scientists and politicians have
tried to separate weapons and nuclear power. However, one must first understand what a nuclear
weapontruly is to understand how they can be a threat. Nuclear weapons are devices that are
designed to release energy in an explosive manner as a result of nuclear fission, nuclear fusion or a
combination of the two processes (Norris).
There are various kinds of nuclear weapons, the most common being fission, and fusion
weapons. Fission weapons are often called atomic bombs. Fission (atomic) bombs can be simple
to build although obtaining the materials for them can be tough. The material needs to have a
high probability of undergoing neutron induced fission, produce a fair number of neutrons with
each reaction, have a reasonably long half life, and have fissile material that is accessible (easy to
dig up or easily made in a nuclear reactor) (Bryan 83). The National Academy of Sciences says, the
critical and indispensable ingredient of a nuclear explosive device is either highly enriched uranium
or separated plutonium 239. Highly enriched uranium is produced by separating the fissionable

Silence In The Play Trifles
The play Trifles takes place during 1957 when women were silenced; they were only addressed
and not spoken to or able to speak. They were not able to vote or partake in any dominant activities.
Nevertheless, we see both females, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, form a silent sisterly bond while
unintentionally uncovering motives for Mr. Wrights murder. The women were not given
permission to help with the crime, while gathering items which Mrs. Wright had requested but they
did it with natural senses due to activities they take on within the household as well.
Therefore silence is firstly seen in the play when Mrs. Wright says She would wear pretty
clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster, one of the town girls singing in the choir
(Glaspell) says Mrs. Hale, but that was thirty years ago before she married Mr. Wright and all her
liveliness left her. When she moved in with Mr. Wright, they lived down in a hollow and you don t

Hale is also silent by slipping the box under quilt pieces and adding more quilt pieces over the bird

quickly and feels the need to be silent in protecting Mrs. Wright.
Nevertheless Mr. Wright and the canary are seen as most silenced in the play. Mr. Wright wrung the
neck of the canary and that caused Mrs. Wright to snap, because then she strangles her husband. He

WW1 CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES World War One 1914 18 described, as the great war

Middle East, America and Russia. The even that lead to the most significant events in the 1900s,
from WW2 to the Middle Eastern conflicts. Blame, a word that describes unfairness, discipline
and punishment. Such a word that many individuals point to others in disagreements. World war
one had many issues that triggered the event, such as militarism, alliances, imperialism and
nationalism. However many other significant events that were to blame were the Franco
Prussian war that lasted from 1870 to 1871, which the German empire emerged from. The
Moroccan crises in 1905 1906, which brought the European, powers on the brick of war with

such a thing as a man being too proud to fight for its country then to see its country grow. There are

Control In A Midsummer s Night Dream
During the late 15th century by William Shakespeare, or more commonly known as
Shakespeare wrote the play A Midsummer s Night Dream. Shakespeare was both a playwright
and a poet, producing many famous pieces such as Hamlet, Julius Caesar, and the infamous
Romeo and Juliet, along with over a hundred sonnets to name a few. In the play A Midsummer s
Night Dream, he writes of four young lovers who wander into the woods, and the trials they
endure along the way. Within this story, Shakespeare also shows that it is not possible to control
another person s actions because the two characters keep trying and failing to do so. By using
Egeus, Shakespeare shows that it is insoluble to control others. In act 1 scene 2 lines 41 44 it says

Oberon conjures up a plan in order to get a young child away from Titania, queen of the fairies,
whilst doing this he is met with two of our other characters, Helena and Demetrius, A sweet

(II.i.268 269) in this point of the story Oberon encounters Helena who is trying to get the
attention of Demetrius, who is completely ignoring her. This displays his need to place forceful
authority because he is trying to controls Demetrius s love, by putting him under a spell and
making him fall in love with Helena. Unlike Egeus though, Oberon takes control over more than
just one character, we see this in act 2 scene 1 lines 83 85 which says Having once this juice,/ I ll
watch Titania when she is asleep/ And drop the liquor of it in her eyes, out of the two Oberon
would have to be the most controlling, because he in these three lines it shows yet another character
Oberon is controlling. In this line though he is attempting to manipulate Titania in order to get the
young changeling boy. Thereupon showing that in the face of love, control still will not

The ABC Company is a manufacturing firm that specializes in making cedar roofing and siding

reaching $3 million annual sales within the next 3 years. Explain the overall risk profile of the

When product prices are stout, investors, governments and other stakeholders comprehend the
description and presume that manufacturing companies are harvesting the gains. Actually, high
product prices encourage more deed, and that boost demand and costs for labor and supplies.
Governments around the globe are facing tough challenges as a result of the present economic
environment. Inflatable deficits generate strong incentive for governments to raise tax revenues by
increasing or introducing new percentage and income taxes. With the current high prices of cedar
shingles and the large cash balances accumulated by some manufacturing companies at present.
Government lead programs designed to organize and accumulate ecological information is able to
escort to more efficient and effective investigation programs. Investment by government in the
industry isolated districts can also facilitate erect the moving and infrastructure that
manufacturing needs. Access to a new project is not essentially complicated but access to the
right new project is definitely more challenging. The present projects are considered the best in
class project for the company because the competition is for becoming more intense. The
research shows a steady recovery in the confidence to finance, from a quite insecure level in
2008, as could be expected, to a much lower level of concern in 2011. However, funding states in
most markets have continued to get worse because the most recent risk review was

Comparing The Three Worlds In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream seems, to me, to combine three worlds. A romantic
world of lovers, the workday world, and the fairy world. And while all three worlds tangle and
intertwine together during the play, it is the fairy world that has the most impact. The lovers are
changed by their meeting with the children of Pan. For the people who constructed this play and
brought these worlds to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what
do the fairies look like, and how is their world different from ours? Our world has grown very
technological, and separated itself from nature. I am sure artists answers to those two questions
have changed drastically between then and now. Back then, people were... Show more content on

They thought the play needed a new set up. People were tired of the old way of this play and
wanted to brighten it up. They started setting up the play in well lit rooms and done away with
the moonlight and scary looking mists. In the new set up there were no rabbits, glow worms, or
fairy music. The plays were usually in a white room with ropes and trapezes dangling from the
ceilings. The fairies were no longer played by sylphlike dancers. Young men started taking their
places. They dangled wires on fishing rods to represent the trees of the woods. This was a pretty

Hemispheric Dominance And Handedness Essay
The link between handedness and hemispheric dominance is based on the simple logic that one s
preferred hand must mean that the hemisphere controlling this hand is also preferred. This means
that right side of the brain is dominant in left handers while the left side of the brain is dominant in
right handers, since the brainworks contra laterally (meaning that the left side of the brain is
responsible for the right side of the body and reversed). In most people the verbal processing
(assumed to be more linear and sequential) is located on the left side of the brain, and the non
verbal processing (thought to be more holistic and random) on the right side of the brain. As we
saw before the definition of handedness is not that simple, there are varying degrees of handedness,
and the same is true for the lateralization of the brain. Furthermore, not everyone has this traditional
organization of the brain, a small percentage of people have a reversed organization of the
structures in their respective hemispheres (from this small percentage the majority is left handed)....

There are many factors and varying degrees of lateralization involved in determining hemispheric
dominance as well as handedness. Handedness for example, is influenced by genetics, learning and
chance (hormone levels and conditions during pregnancy are also thought to have an influence) .
The factors determining hemispheric dominance could be similar to those determining handedness
but this does not always have to be the case. Similarly, it is hard to isolate one single factor and
see if it is truly important in determining dominance or not. We can therefore say that it is better to
use The Wada test or brain scans over handedness as an indicator of hemispheric

Chem B Experiment Lab Report
The purpose of this lab was to experimentally and scientifically ascertain the percentage of oxygen
in Chem B at Woonsocket High School. It was hypothesized that if the percentage of oxygen is
measured experimentally in Chem B at Woonsocket High School, then it would be higher than the
percentage of oxygenin dry air, which is 20.95%, because the air is not dry due to moisture in the
air from people breathing and the altitude of where the experiment takes place may affect it as well.
To conduct this experiment, a candle was placed upright in a pan of water, was lit, and the flame
was allowed to fully develop. Then a graduated cylinder was placed upside down to represent an
airtight chamber, and the water rose. The point where it rose to was ... Show more content on

The number of people in the room, contributing to the humidity, is one of the contributing factors
to the change in percentages of oxygen. The condensation of a person s exhaled breath is a factor
that also minimally contributes to the humidity in the atmosphere. Humidity is the amount of
water vapor in the air at any given moment. When a person exhales, it marginally impacts the
relative humidity, and, due to common sense, if there is more people in the room, there is a
greater level of humidity. The percentage of oxygen in dry air is 20.95%. However, the air is not
always dry. Thus, the percentage of oxygen cannot always be the same if humidity is always
changing. Furthermore, dew point temperature is the absolute measure of the amount of water
vapor present in the air. So, if the temperature is higher, it can hold more water vapor, making
warmer climates much more humid than cooler climates. So, the temperature in the room is also
an indirect contributing factor to the percentage of oxygen in the air. The distance above sea level
is thought to potentially affect the percentages of oxygen. Nonetheless, it has been established that
the percentage of oxygen molecules is always the same when considering altitude. This is because
air is compressible, so the weight of all the air above applies pressure to the air at that particular
altitude, making that air at

  • 2. Use of Symbolism, Tone, and Irony in The Swimmer, by John... Finding home boarded up; a sensation of coldness and unwelcoming takes over. Sudden misfortunes arise from what was once a perfect life, and the world appears upside down. Attempts to remember what went wrong fail. Memories are unclear and time seems blurry. At one time, John Cheever found himself in this position, using alcohol to ignore his problems. John Cheeverwas born in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1912. In 1941, he moved to suburban Westchester and eventually became addicted to alcohol, which is a recurrent motif in many of his short stories. He died in 1982 from cancer. In his short story, The Swimmer, an affluent man named Neddy Merrill decides to swim through all of the pools in his county to reach his own house. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His inability to adapt to new situations as he swam through the pools has caused society to ostracize him. At the beginning of the story, he was ranked highly in society. At the end he is homeless and destitute. His reckless decisions disregarding change have landed Ned where he is. Before he reaches the Welchers pool, there is a thunderstorm that interrupts Ned s flow through the neighborhood pools. Previously, there had been nothing that stopped Ned, but he could not help but notice that, It would storm. The stand of cumulus cloud that city had risen and darkened, and while he sat there he heard the percussiveness of thunder again (Cheever). The storm represents the rough, unpleasant changes in life. After the storm, the neighbors become unfriendly, and even those who were ranked under Ned before now disrespect him. Ned did not try to adapt to the storm, but rather opted out to wait for it to pass under the Levy s gazebo. He waited for the problems to fix themselves, which did not benefit him at all. The storm also plays with the idea of representing a period of time, because, Up to the midpoint of the story, the thunderstorm... has seemed like it would last forever... By introducing other ... • 3. Ilan Pappe s Definition Of Ethnic Cleansing Israel successfully fought off the pan Arab army while other Israeli combatants terrorized and depopulated the countryside. Ilan Pappe termed the depopulation of Palestinians as ethnic cleansing but can this phrase be properly used when discussing the events of 1947 1948? To answer this question one must determine if there is a well established definition of the phrase ethnic cleansing and also establish that this was the intent of the Zionists, both initially and subsequently. This can be determined by examining Zionist policy and action previous to the U.N partition plan and after, which will demonstrate that the term is appropriately applied to the situation by Pappe. The United Nations defines ethnic cleansing as; The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first English use of the phrase was used by Donald Forbes, a Reuters reporter, who was quoting Croatia s Supreme Council: The aim of this expulsion is obviously the ethnic cleansing of the critical areas . . . to be annexed to Serbia (New York Times). The phrase is used later to define events in Serbia where Slobodan Milosevic, known as the Butcher of the Balkans, would level cities, mass murder, and rape the local populations of Croatians which created 2 million refugees (CNN). Again, the tactics are all too similar to those used by Israel to drive out the Arab peoples. Moreover, the term is used today describe most cases of expulsion, imprisonment, or killing of an ethnic minority by a dominant majority. It doesn t matter what definition you use or what other historical examples you use to define the phrase because it doesn t change the main purpose of Pappe s book, which is, to demonstrate that the Arabs were forcibly removed from Palestine using violent and non violent means (Pappe 2). Pappe documents the events that led to the mass expulsion of Palestinians from their lands, beginning with the Zionist vision from the partition plan, forward. Also, Pappe uses oral history to fill the gaps in the Palestinians narrative, along with military archives, and Ben Gurion s diary. The Jewish National Fund contained files that were used to systematically eliminate Arab villages, and Plan D provides the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Leadership Reflection With a million ideas racing continuously over and over in my head, once again like many times before, my struggle would present itself of not being able to write those ideas down on paper. Years of nursing experience, and more recently managing the nursing informatics department, carrying out ideas that would advance the flow of information and improve processes came so easy for me; yet it was so difficult to present this in writingto the leadership group in our facility. To confidently complete a walk through in each department in our hospital with the leadership, verbalizing the changes that would take place was second nature for me. This walk through demonstrated how the changes would improve not only the flow of information but also bridge each department to function in unity. Understanding what needed to take place and following through bringing about positive changes I was comfortable in performing, however, expressing this in written format was something I needed to development considering my position as manager of my department. To receive approval on any request for change, we were required to write our proposalas a professional improvement (PI) project. The proposal would include, the reason for the change, objectives, stakeholders involved, and set a timeline with target end date. The day would come when I would begin my literacy development journey. Writing a professional improvement proposal is one of the most important moments in my literacy development ... We usually go on a vacation every few years to somewhere that s warm during Minnesota s winter. Because of Hawaii s warm climate, It was one of the best choices. Out of the five days we stayed there, one specific day became the crowning moment of the whole trip for me. Even though the trip would be a long eleven hour flight, I knew it would be worth it. They strictly emphasized on not walking on the coral and staying a good distance away from sea turtles. Eventually we were allowed to carry on down to the actual beach. The staff members who presented the video led us out through a different set of doors that opened to an overlook of the beach. The sky was partly cloudy with scattered rain storms that covered an area no greater than a football field. Luckily, all the rain stayed offshore, otherwise it would of been a crummy day. The beach overlook stood above a cliff of black rock that surrounded the back side of the beach. Looking down, a small cluster of palm trees lined along the base of the cliff which provided shade from the scorching sand. • 8. The Utilitarian Theory Of Punishment In this paper I will defend both the proponents and principles of the utilitarian theory of punishment, namely addressing the utilitarian approach juxtaposed with the retributive. Before beginning to make claims in any direction, a brief and to date synopsis of the utilitarian fundamentals regarding punishmentwill be necessary. From there, I will present the utilitarian theories of punishment as not only the most useful for a society, but also the best representation of criminal law being carried out justly. Following this assertion I will refute objections made by retributivists, and in doing so present a discovered common ground between the retributory criteria for just punishment and the utilitarian theories. This will not serve to say I believe in impure retributivism over the utilitarian theories, but rather will act as testament to the practicality of the utilitarian approach. Finally, I will propose the most ethical response to criminality is found from the utilitarian fundamentals of societal well being, mentioning specifically the vindictive theories of punishment as meeting the utilitarian criteria. To the utilitarian, punishment is not an end in itself for the actions of a wrongdoer. Utilitarians and I believe punishment should serve as a larger means to an end that will benefit the future while righting the criminal actions of the past by employing deterrence, rehabilitation, and the disablement of the unjust human in the perpetual attempt to increase overall ... • 10. The Project Life Cycle Of The Production Bubble Gum And... Introduction Quality standards pervade all aspects of society, from quality management systems standards for nuclear power stations to technical specifications for manufacturing bubble gum (Keystone and Accountability, 2006). For NGOs, the story is no different(optic). In general, NGOs are engaged in a wide range of activities, they set up projects to help people in poverty areas. But little attention has so far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project could not be guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of uncertainties and flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006). Therefore, the central argument of this article is going to find out how these two factors influence the projects and which two quality management reforms could help to promote the NGOs project in the context of a complex environment. In doing this, comparisons will be made with two examples of Nokia and Lions Clubs International from their private sectors. The Definition of Quality Management in NGOs Quality (or performance)forms the third corner of time cost quality triangle which is the basis of project management(Albert Lester, 2007). It is generally defined as a degree of excellence . In the context of organizational performance it can be defined as the way in which an organization, through its activities and underlying management systems, succeeds in meeting the needs of ... • 11. Drum Major Failure While the failures everyday teenagers go through pale in comparison to that of an adult, if I were to pick one instance of failure, and the lessons entailed, it would be my rejection from becoming my high school band s drum major. During my sophomore year, I signed up to try out for drum major. There were five of us total, and only one of us could be the next drum major. The audition was during band camp, and we have trained all summer for it. Unfortunately, I did not succeed in becoming the next drum major. From this experience, I have learned that failure can be a valuable teacher, to commit to areas where I find the most passion and to manage my tasks at hand more effectively. My lessons started with failure. First, I learned that even in failure, there are still lessons we can all learn. Instead of blaming someone and thinking nothing can be done, one should... Realizing trying out for drum major was not what I really wanted, it felt I have wasted my whole summer. Steve Jobs once said, The only way to do great work is to love what you do . This quote accurately described my situation because becoming a drum major was not something I loved. It was simply a way to achieve something else I loved, and this ultimately costed me at the end. Upper management must consider many financial factors that will be imperative to the overall success of the company. In order to implement the new sector into the company auspiciously, expenses in relation to human resources, supply and logistics management, marketing, and the procurement and deployment of new and existing technology/methodologies must be examined. The company has currently projected an increase of 500% in net sales which will cause an increase in expenses to accommodate the resources required to handle the upsurge of demand. CanGo will need to hire new personnel in order to maintain order demand and will also require new technical staff members in order to implement and maintain the required hardware and software necessary for on line gaming. CanGO must also account for storage and trucks required for shipping. One of the most important and potentially largest expenses CanGo must consider is marketing in regards to the on line gaming industry. • 13. What Defines Human Nature And The Hierarchy Of Human... What defines human nature and the hierarchy of human relations? In this paper, I will argue that Beauvoir s view that society constructs man, maleness, and the masculine as the human standard (rendering woman, femaleness, and the feminine deviant and defective) is flawed. Although Beauvoir s evidence was compelling I had several issues with some of the finer details such as what term designates a humanbeing, that a woman s body is considered disadvantaged, and that female nature is defective. I also disagree with her statement that woman can t think of herself without man, woman is only a symbol of sex to man, and that man and woman are the Self and the Other. Firstly, Beauvoir argues that man represents the positive and the neutral while woman represents only the negative. I feel that this statement is saying that woman is only what man are not. By making this assumption I infer that Beauvoir feels woman is only considered when man has reached the limits of their reach. However, I believe that man the line separating man and woman is inconclusive in its stance. When looking at what is considered masculine and what is considered feminine, there are some relatable similarities. For example, the work ethic of a man at work is similar to the work ethic of a woman at home. A man would be expected to complete his work load in a proficient manner and bring home money to the family. A woman would be expected to care for the family and the home in a proficient and timely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In all, woman, Lysistrata, ends the war is by convincing all wives to withhold all sexual privileges from their husbands. Thus forcing their husbands to end the war with peace. In this comedic play many themes are highlighted throughout the scenes. One theme in particular spoke of the Peloponnesian War and how this war between Athens and Sparta was a senseless waste of lives, money and energy. The investments that were going into the Peloponnesian war were all by the treasury. Also when Lysistrata talks with the Magistrate, she tells him that the women will seize Acropolis and handle administering the money. • 16. Synchronous Machine For A Motor And A Generator Synchronous Machines Louis Meyer EE 3501 Section 3B November 7, 2014 Table of Contents Abstract This report contains details from three lab experiments performed using a synchronous machine for both a motor and a generator. The fundamental principle of a synchronous machine is that the electrical frequency is related to the mechanical frequency. The first lab performed consisted of doing two different tests, the open circuit and short circuit tests, respectively. By performing these two basic tests, it can be determined the armature voltage and current changes drastically with each test. The second lab performed required to use the synchronous machine as a generator. When acting like a generator, it becomes necessary to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two primary synchronous machines, the synchronous generator and the synchronous motor. Both machines are very useful depending on the application necessary for their use. Depending on the external conditions, it is required to have an understanding of how the synchronous machine should be modeled for each use. The synchronous machine is commonly found in industrial settings, clocks, and power plants. The common factor between these fields is the requirement of running at a constant speed. The synchronous generators used in power plants are common because it is economically efficient to keep the generator running at a constant frequency. Depending on the application, the synchronous machines can be modeled proportionally between the mechanical frequency based on the number of poles and the frequency of current (see theory). Consequentially, the electrical radian frequency is determined be the electrical frequency. Modeling a synchronous machine is a simple task, provided the necessary parameters are known. For this lab the model of the synchronous machine was already considered. The synchronous machine being used had a rating of 208 V (line to line rms), 60 Hz, and 200 W. It is a 4 pole machine with a synchronous speed of 1800 RPM. The open circuit and short circuit tests performed in this lab can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016. Unprecedentedly, he became the first singer and songwriter who had ever earned the Nobel Prize in Literature in history. In order to correctly express the emotion of the protagonists in the song, Dylan basically utilizes all five senses, especially sight, touch, and hearing: I heard her say over my shoulder/ We ll meet again someday on the avenue. (Dylan 24, 25). Dylan uses dark, sad night to connect the color with the emotion. Darkness represents sadness; it shows that he feels so upset that they split up. Dylan also makes images by using disparate phrases. The quote But I never did like it all that much/And one day the ax just fell (Dylan 29, 30). shows tough life for people during the postwar era. Woolf reads the lives of women and concludes that if a woman were to have written she would have had to overcome enormous circumstances (Woolfxi). Woolf s initial thesis is that a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction (Woolf 4). Throughout the book, however, she develops other important conditions for artistic creation. Woolf mentions many nineteenth century female writers in order to explain these conditions, but she does not mention Mary Shelley. Rejection and discouragement from family, friends, and society fills her life. Because the world will not permit the expression of her genius, she eventually commits suicide. Woolf argues that like ?Shakespeare?s sister,? any woman ?born with a gift for poetry in the sixteenth century was an unhappy woman, a woman at strife against herself? (Woolf 50). Although the circumstances of female writers greatly improve over the next 300 years, Woolf finds that ?even in the nineteenth century a woman was not encouraged to be an artist. On the contrary, she was snubbed, slapped, lectured and exhorted? (Woolf 55). Despite the great odds against her, a few women managed to disregard their discouraging environments and write successfully. The conditions that they overcame amaze Woolf: ?What genius, what integrity it must have required in face of all that criticism, in the midst of that purely patriarchal society to hold fast to the thing as they saw it without shrinking? (Woolf 74). Unlike most nineteenth century female writers, Mary Shelley is supported in her intellectual pursuits throughout her life. Although society discourages female writers, her family surrounds her with constant encouragement. Shelley comes from a background of famous radical writers. The political and moral writings of her father, William Godwin, are extremely influential during the time. Her feminist mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, writes the controversial book, A ... Therefore, an act that is typically depicted as a crime is not punishable under these circumstances. Joycelyn M. The setting of the poem takes place in an egyptian tea garden as presumably stated in the title. In the poem, Keith Douglas strategically emphasizes a woman s ability to entice and seduce men with her beauty, as well as the same woman being objectified through the usage of structure, language and style. To begin, the first stanza introduces the woman and further establishes the setting. A simile is used to introduce a woman who is being admired by other men, As a white stone draws down the fish/ she on the seafloor of the afternoon/ draws down men s glances and their cruel wish/ for love (1). The woman is representing the white stone which draws the attention of the fish, who represent men. Maryland was a dichotomy before the Civil War as the state had almost as many free blacks as it did slaves. In early 1861, almost 84,000 free Negroes were identified while more than 87,000 black and mixed race individuals were listed as slaves. Maryland was made up of merchants and business people in the central and western parts of the state with primarily farmers and slaveholders in the east and south. He fails to realize that nothing is wrong with this lifestyle and should not prevent Cosette s and Marius s Marriage.Throughout this conversation money constantly arises as a reason not to marry, another challenge that Marius causes for Gillenormand. He cannot obviously see that marriage for Marius is not about money, only love, an outlook that surely confuses him. If he had completely understood Marius s true intentions he would not advise Marius to make Cosette his mistress of course a mistress is not of pure intentions, not even love (397). Not until Marius leaves for what seems indefinitely Gillenormand realizes how rude he was, which leaves him with a now empty emotion. • 37. Nuclear Weapons And Atomic Weapons Essay Nuclear weapons are a threatening war tactic that has become more frequent in the new media, especially in the past few weeks after Hillary Clinton released an updated version of the Daisy ad inferring that if elected, Donald Trump will misuse the nuclear weapons of the United States. Nuclear power is a big responsibility and since the start of its use, scientists and politicians have tried to separate weapons and nuclear power. However, one must first understand what a nuclear weapontruly is to understand how they can be a threat. Nuclear weapons are devices that are designed to release energy in an explosive manner as a result of nuclear fission, nuclear fusion or a combination of the two processes (Norris). There are various kinds of nuclear weapons, the most common being fission, and fusion weapons. Fission weapons are often called atomic bombs. Fission (atomic) bombs can be simple to build although obtaining the materials for them can be tough. The material needs to have a high probability of undergoing neutron induced fission, produce a fair number of neutrons with each reaction, have a reasonably long half life, and have fissile material that is accessible (easy to dig up or easily made in a nuclear reactor) (Bryan 83). The National Academy of Sciences says, the critical and indispensable ingredient of a nuclear explosive device is either highly enriched uranium or separated plutonium 239. Highly enriched uranium is produced by separating the fissionable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Silence In The Play Trifles The play Trifles takes place during 1957 when women were silenced; they were only addressed and not spoken to or able to speak. They were not able to vote or partake in any dominant activities. Nevertheless, we see both females, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, form a silent sisterly bond while unintentionally uncovering motives for Mr. Wrights murder. The women were not given permission to help with the crime, while gathering items which Mrs. Wright had requested but they did it with natural senses due to activities they take on within the household as well. Therefore silence is firstly seen in the play when Mrs. Wright says She would wear pretty clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster, one of the town girls singing in the choir (Glaspell) says Mrs. Hale, but that was thirty years ago before she married Mr. Wright and all her liveliness left her. Hale is also silent by slipping the box under quilt pieces and adding more quilt pieces over the bird to hide evidence. She becomes silenced because she knows what being a farm wife does and how much work is put into it. She also feels horrible for never visiting for over a year and sympathizes quickly and feels the need to be silent in protecting Mrs. Wright. Nevertheless Mr. Wright and the canary are seen as most silenced in the play. Mr. Wright wrung the neck of the canary and that caused Mrs. Wright to snap, because then she strangles her husband. He had killed the only thing that gave her joy while living in silence. Mr. Wright is also seen as a silent man because he didn t want to place a telephone line in the house that Mr. Hale had suggested. Both deaths were the biggest silencers of the play. Just as the bird was lived in a cage and was silenced so did Minnie Foster. Disconnecting from the people and becoming silent made her home the bird cage and she the ... • 40. Control In A Midsummer s Night Dream During the late 15th century by William Shakespeare, or more commonly known as Shakespeare wrote the play A Midsummer s Night Dream. Shakespeare was both a playwright and a poet, producing many famous pieces such as Hamlet, Julius Caesar, and the infamous Romeo and Juliet, along with over a hundred sonnets to name a few. In the play A Midsummer s Night Dream, he writes of four young lovers who wander into the woods, and the trials they endure along the way. Within this story, Shakespeare also shows that it is not possible to control another person s actions because the two characters keep trying and failing to do so. By using Egeus, Shakespeare shows that it is insoluble to control others. In act 1 scene 2 lines 41 44 it says [c]onsent to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. Comparing The Three Worlds In A Midsummer Night s Dream Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream seems, to me, to combine three worlds. A romantic world of lovers, the workday world, and the fairy world. And while all three worlds tangle and intertwine together during the play, it is the fairy world that has the most impact. The lovers are changed by their meeting with the children of Pan. For the people who constructed this play and brought these worlds to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what do the fairies look like, and how is their world different from ours? Our world has grown very technological, and separated itself from nature. I am sure artists answers to those two questions have changed drastically between then and now. Back then, people were... • 43. Hemispheric Dominance And Handedness Essay The link between handedness and hemispheric dominance is based on the simple logic that one s preferred hand must mean that the hemisphere controlling this hand is also preferred. This means that right side of the brain is dominant in left handers while the left side of the brain is dominant in right handers, since the brainworks contra laterally (meaning that the left side of the brain is responsible for the right side of the body and reversed). In most people the verbal processing (assumed to be more linear and sequential) is located on the left side of the brain, and the non verbal processing (thought to be more holistic and random) on the right side of the brain. As we saw before the definition of handedness is not that simple, there are varying degrees of handedness, and the same is true for the lateralization of the brain. Furthermore, not everyone has this traditional organization of the brain, a small percentage of people have a reversed organization of the structures in their respective hemispheres (from this small percentage the majority is left handed).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many factors and varying degrees of lateralization involved in determining hemispheric dominance as well as handedness. Handedness for example, is influenced by genetics, learning and chance (hormone levels and conditions during pregnancy are also thought to have an influence) . The factors determining hemispheric dominance could be similar to those determining handedness but this does not always have to be the case. Similarly, it is hard to isolate one single factor and see if it is truly important in determining dominance or not. We can therefore say that it is better to use The Wada test or brain scans over handedness as an indicator of hemispheric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was hypothesized that if the percentage of oxygen is measured experimentally in Chem B at Woonsocket High School, then it would be higher than the percentage of oxygenin dry air, which is 20.95%, because the air is not dry due to moisture in the air from people breathing and the altitude of where the experiment takes place may affect it as well. To conduct this experiment, a candle was placed upright in a pan of water, was lit, and the flame was allowed to fully develop. The number of people in the room, contributing to the humidity, is one of the contributing factors to the change in percentages of oxygen. The condensation of a person s exhaled breath is a factor that also minimally contributes to the humidity in the atmosphere. Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air at any given moment. When a person exhales, it marginally impacts the relative humidity, and, due to common sense, if there is more people in the room, there is a greater level of humidity. The percentage of oxygen in dry air is 20.95%. However, the air is not always dry. Thus, the percentage of oxygen cannot always be the same if humidity is always changing. Furthermore, dew point temperature is the absolute measure of the amount of water vapor present in the air. So, if the temperature is higher, it can hold more water vapor, making warmer climates much more humid than cooler climates. So, the temperature in the room is also an indirect contributing factor to the percentage of oxygen in the air. The distance above sea level is thought to potentially affect the percentages of oxygen. Nonetheless, it has been established that the percentage of oxygen molecules is always the same when considering altitude. This is because air is compressible, so the weight of all the air above applies pressure to the air at that particular altitude, making that air at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
