2. I took several pictures of Dom.
I didnât have too many ideas of how I wanted Dom to look. All I wanted Dom to do
was to represent âSchizophreniaâ. I took several shots how showing different
emotions would work (seeing as schizophrenics are known for having a split
personality in which they express different emotions in almost a bipolar manner as
they can feel extreme happiness and one point and then hear voices that can
darken their mood.
3. I found that I few of them wouldnât be appropriate for
either my film poster or magazine cover.
For the following reasons:
This is a picture of Domâs
cheek. With this picture, I
was trying to take several
pictures of different areas
of the face but I donât feel
that including a picture of
his cheek will in anyway
enhance my final image
for my film poster or
magazine cover.
This is a picture of
Domâs entire face.
The main issue
with this image is
that the camera is
out of focus which
has meant that the
picture looks
blurry. I didnât
want it to be blurry
as I felt that the
images had to look
as though they
were of âhigh
qualityâ in order to
make them
effective when
being viewed.
The main issue with this
image is that I was attempting
to take a picture of the middle
section of domâs face which
proved to be difficult as he is
much taller than me and
therefore I was stretching in
order to get to the
appropriate level to
photograph this area. BUT
because I couldnât see the
camera screen properly I
ended up including his mouth
area within the image as well
and almost half of his eye
area. I have re-done this shot
and therefore, this picture is
no longer necessary.
4. Here are the images I will be using
for my film poster:
5. And Why? Pills. I will be including this shot as it will hint at the idea of mental illness
through the reference to psychotherapeutic medications that are used to
benefit the lives of mental illness sufferers by making them feel better.
This is a very unique shot and when placed with the others I feel that it will make the
final product very effective and at the same time trigger peoples interest in the film.
6. And Why? This shot makes the viewer concentrate solely on his eyes as it isnât a very âfussyâ image
with numerous things happening at once. This allows for the final product to be
effective as it will make people ask questions in the way that Roland Barthes talks of in
his theory as this image is enigmatic .
I like the fact that
anyone that sees this
image will be able to see
the use of mise-en-
scene (costume) which
in this case is a woven
material bracelet. This is
very popular among
teenagers and therefore
this ties into my target
audience for my trailer
and as a result, this
should make it easier for
me to reach my target
audience as the
character in some
senses resembles them.
The close up on his eyes allows people to view his emotion and his hands that are
gripped tightly onto his hair do the same. With a film that is based on schizophrenia,
I feel that it is extremely important that there are references to emotion in some
form as sufferers of this mental illness always talk about how they âfeelâ, whether
that be happy, sad, angry, paranoid and many others.
7. And Why? I am including this
image for
âemotion/feelingâ
reasons like the image
in the previous slide.
The nose is known as
one of the 5 senses
that people have. I felt
it was appropriate to
include as many these
senses as possible to
make a few links to the
idea of mental illness
without revealing the
plot through the
images.
Photographing a nose for part of a film poster is unusual as most film
posters include either an image of an entire face or a setting.
8. And Why? I was thinking of reusing the same shot twice BUT cutting
the image into two so that it becomes two separate images
like this:
I want to half the image in
this way so that I can
make the final image look
more disjointed in order
to highlight the feeling of
unease and confusing that
is felt by sufferers of
schizophrenia.
9. Why have I decided to do a film poster than includes an image of the actor
instead of photographing a particular scene which is one of the conventions
of psychological thriller/thriller film posters?
10. Possible taglines
⢠The story of two worlds in one personâŚ
⢠In a place, where no one can hear your
screamâŚ
⢠The mind is a place for two..
Taglines are catchy, alluring short phrases used by marketers and film studios to
promote and sell a movie and to sum up the plot, tone or themes of a film.
