Maturity refers to cotton fibers being fully grown and developed. Immature fibers are more likely to break during processing, form neps, become entangled with trash, affect yarn and fabric appearance adversely, and dye to a lighter shade than mature fibers. Maturity of cotton fibers can be identified using airflow principles to measure ratios of mature, normal, and dead fibers.
