Review several of your classmates’ posts. Provide a substantive response to at least two of your peers in a minimum of 300 words (each reply), by Day 7 (Monday). Based on your understanding of the reading, add important information to the conversation.
How are your experiences similar to or different than those offered by your peers?
How might damage to different parts of the brain impact various processes related to sensation and perception?
Can you offer additional examples of social or cultural differences in childrearing that might impact outcomes?
Peer 1 (Jennie):
Sensation and perception both play a significant role in the sensory of how our brain functions. Perception is the way individuals see things or situations. Viewpoints may vary based on several things, including one’s environment, culture, traditions, and senses. That is when sensations come into play; seeing, touching, hearing, tasting, and feeling are all part of our sensory system. As mentioned by LeFrançois (2020), “Strictly speaking,
sensation
is the immediate response of our senses to sensory stimulation;
perception
is the brain’s interpretation of the signals it receives from its various sensory systems” (chapter 3.1).
Human development includes a variety other than just genes and science. Erik Erikson is a psychologist who has been examining the interaction between genes (nature) and environment (nurture). Different backgrounds impact nutrition and physical development because not every child is raised in similar homes. One household can have customs of bike riding every night and include full servings of vegetables in every meal. Another house might have movie night along with a full bar of snacks and treats on the daily. The nutritional and physical development of the children in each household will be different because of the home environment. Social development is affected by childcare arrangements, culture, and traditions of the parents. The movie
Babies
[Streaming video], demonstrates how culture is a part of this development and precisely how nurture is the primary variable. When it comes to parenting styles and emotional development, the main thing to consider is the parent’s childhood. There are four categories into which parents fall under, each one having a different impact on how children emotionally develop. The different styles are; autonomous, usually, have securely attached children. There is dismissing and preoccupied parents, who typically have insecurely attached children, and unresolved who likely manifest disorganized-disoriented attachment. This development is influenced by both nature and nurture but develops positively or negatively depending on the child’s environment.
The relationship between perception and development is affected by one’s environment, family beliefs, and the way they demonstrate affection. As mentioned in the
Parental ethnotheories of children’s learning
(2010) book, “Features of childhood such as the lon.

The brain
The brain develops at an unbelievable rate from infancy into the toddler age. The brain consists of microscopic brain cells and the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is the most complex brain structure. It is responsible for our intelligence. Within the brain are neurons that store and transmit information.
Growth of infant brain.
During the prenatal period, neurons are produced in the embryo’s neural tube. They then move to form other parts of the brain. They eventually form fibers and synaptic connections with other cells. In infancy and toddlerhood, the neural fibers increase tremendously. The neurons are stimulated from input and form communication systems that support complex abilities. The stimulation results in synapses that ensure children obtain motor, cognitive, and social skills. A child’s brain needs to be appropriately stimulated during the formation of synapses.
Physical growth.
Different parts of the body grow at different rates. The cephalocaudal trend and the proximodistal trend. The cephalocaudal trend is when the head develops more quickly than the lower half of the body. At birth, the head is most of a child’s body length. The rest of the body eventually catches up. The proximodistal trend is defined as growth from the center of the body and out. In infancy and early childhood, arms and legs grow ahead of hands and feet.
Brain Plasticity.
Plasticity is a basic property of the nervous system. Synaptic connections support brain plasticity. Within the first years of life, the brain is very plastic. This means than it is able to reorganize, something that mature brain cannot do as well. Essentially, brain injury after this time is less likely to yield improvements but with it is possible with practicing relevant tasks.
Experience-expectant versus experience-dependent brain growth.
Experience-expectant brain growth is the young brains developing organization that depends on ordinary experiences and opportunities to explore the environment, interact with people, and to hear sounds. The brains of all young children “expect” to encounter experiences and grow. Experience-dependent brain growth happens throughout life and the refinement of existing brain structures from learning experiences.

To new parents having a new baby can bring a lot of worries about everything regarding health and development. Brain development is one of the major concerns when it comes to the baby. The brain is one of the most important parts of the body and as a baby it continues to develop. At the beginning of the infancy the neural fibers and synapses increase rapidly as they grow (Berk, Meyers, 2015-03-01). This just means that all the parts of the brain are doing everything it needs to do and growing the way it should. If this is happening in the brain then the baby will grow and develop by all the milestones.

Development and learning are dynamic processes that reflect the complex interplay between a child’s biological characteristics and the environment, each shaping the other as well as future patterns of growth.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Meaning of Family
Importance of Home/ Family as an agency of education: Psychologically and
physically the first contact and interaction the child makes with the outer world is with
his/her mother. Learning process of the child begins the moment s/he is born. His/her
brain takes shape in accordance to the responses made to the stimulus. The child’s
brain is nascent, eager to record the first reaction of the person who comes in contact
with him/her.
The home environment gives shape to his/her psychological and sociological growth.
Mother becomes the first teacher. Undoubtedly, that is the reason that the first
language a child learns is called “mother tongue”. When we use the term “Home”, it
signifies the place where there are parents and other family members who the child
comes in contact with, where the child is loved, cared for, disciplined, reared, taught
and brought up, where a responsibility is felt by the family to modulate the child and
attend his/her needs. Home, therefore, plays a very important role in laying the
foundation of the child’s personality in terms of physical, emotional, social, moral and
cognitive aspects.
3. Meaning of Family
According to Burgen and Locke: “ the home/ family is a group of persons knotted by
the ties of marriage, blood or adoption, constituting a single household, instructing
and intercommunication with each other in their respective social role of husband and
wife, mother and father, son and daughter, brother and sister creating and
maintaining a common culture.”
According to Clare: “ By family/ home we mean a system of relationship existing
between parents and children.”
