Need of Inclusive
Education
By: Dr. Krishan Kant, Principal, CRDAV Girls College of Education, Ellenabad,+9190506-20202
Historical Background of Emergence
Inclusive Education
1. UN Convention on the Rights right of the Child-1989-”Everyone belongs to the
school everyone welcome to school” Which sets out children’s rights in respect of
freedom form discrimination and in respect of the representation of their wishes
and views.
2. UNESCO World Conference on Special Educational Needs, Salamanca-1994
“which calls on all Govts. To give the highest priority to Inclusive Education.”
3. Dakar World Education Forum-2000.
4. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities(2006)”which calls on
all member states parties to ensure an Inclusive Education system at all levels”.
Concept/ Meaning of Inclusive
Education
 The first & most current meaning as defined by UNESCO,
” transformation of schools and other centers of learning to
cater for all Children”.
 Booth(1996) “Inclusive education is a process of addressing
and responding to the diversity of needs of all learners
through increasing participation in learning and reducing
exclusion within and form education”.
 Micheal F. Giangreco(1997) “ Inclusive Education is a set of
Values, principles and practices that seeks more effective
and meaningful education for all students, regardless of
weather they have exceptionality labels or not”.
Conclusion:
 In short Inclusive Education is the process to achieve full inclusion in the
existing school system in terms of
1. physical factors( building changes)
2. Curriculum aspests(+ & -)
3. Teaching experts(General Teaching, special Teacher, Resource Teacher
or Team approach)
4. Teaching styles(methods of teaching).
5. Administration Roles will have to change/modify/adapt.
6. This is because Inclusive Education is about the participation of all
children & the removal of all forms of exclusionary pratices.
Need of Inclusive Education
 CSIE-Centre for Studies on Inclusive
Education, Bristol(U.K.) Ten reasons for
Inclusion:-
Human Rights:-
 All children have right to learn together.
 Children should not be devalued or
discriminated against by being excluded
or sent away because of their disability or
learning difficulty.
 Disabled adults are demanding an end
to segregation.
 There are no legitimate reasons to
separate children for their education.
Children belong together with
advantages and benefits for everyone.
They do not need to be protected from
each other.
 CSIE- Centre for Studies on Inclusive
Education, Bristol, United Kingdom
(Human Rights)
Good Education:-
 Research shows children do better
academically and socially in integrated
settings.
 There is no teaching or care in a
segregated school, which cannot take
place in an ordinary school.
 Given commitment and support, inclusive
education is a more efficient use of
educational resources.
Good Social Sense:-
 Segregation teaches children to be
fearful, ignorant and breeds prejudice.
 All children need an education that will
help them develop relationships and
prepare them for life in the mainstream.
 Only inclusion has the potential to reduce
fear and to build friendship, respect and
understanding.
(Good Education)
(Good Social Sense)
Need of Inclusive Education, some other reasons:-
 To expand literacy more.
 Increasing inclusion and reducing
exclusion which is the main barrier
in the UEE.
 Increasing the active
participation- physically,
academically as well as socially.
 To prepare the special needs
children for the future that they
might otherwise not have.
 Make the education system barrier
free.
 It helps the special needs children
to develop a sense of pride in their
work.
 To promote the equality or equal
opportunities to develop.
े
