Differences And Similarities Between The Australian And...
Countries all around the world are controlled by strict police systems in order to maintain a peaceful
and safe environment. The Australian police system and the German police system have many
similarities, but also have their differences. When comparing the two, points to take into consideration
is overall appearance, history and purpose of the police system.
Appearance among the public is an important factor that Australia and Germany considered when
establishing their current police system. Both countries are determined to create a positive image
surrounding their police force and avoid the stigma related to police in places like the US. Australian
police officers predominately wear a blue uniform, which is consistent across all states, ... Show more

The initial reason for Australia creating their police force was a bombing on a Sydney hotel in 1978,
and within a year it was created to deal with nation wide issues such as terrorism. Up until this time,
the Commonwealth ran a police force but there were several issues revolving around this. In May
1927, Parliament House was opened which increased the necessity for a stronger police system in
Australia however it took many years to establish one. On the other hand, Germany has a much longer
and more controversial history relating to their police system. The Landespolizei, who are the state
police, date back to the late 19th century, when Germany united into a single country in 1871. When
Germany became a dictatorship in 1933 under Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, all police forces were
absorbed into the Ordnungspolizei. They were responsible for Nazi Germany s law enforcement and
protection of the country at the time. The organisation existed until the end of World War II in

Essay on Speech Pathology
SPEECH PATHOLOGY Many people would like to make a difference, not only in their own life, but
in others lives as well. Deepak Chopra once said, Everyone has a purpose in life...a unique gift or
special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we
experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals. All of
us, at one point in our lives, have to make the difficult decision of the goals we want to work towards.
We all have certain goals, standards, and expectations of ourselves. Not everyone will figure out what
they want to be right away, and some will know from the very beginning. My plan for my life is

What Are Hypocrites In The Odyssey
Anti war while supporting terrorists, vouching for a fathers importance while dropping their offspring
at an orphanage, developing freedom of speech while lobbying for censorship, hypocrites succeeded
in society. Joining hypocrites John Lennon, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Voltaire is the Ithacan King,
Odysseus. In The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus is a hypocrite In society, successful people are
hypocrites. Odysseus warns people not to anger the gods, but Odysseus does so himself. Polyphemus
calls Odysseus out Stranger, he grumbled... you must be a fool, stranger, or come from nowhere,
telling me to fear the gods or avoid their wrath (9.306 309)! Polyphemus used an ad hominem
approach to defending himself. Odysseus fulfills his foolish behavior, he seized [his] steak... round in

Odysseus breaks and enters. Odysseus kills the men who do the same to him. Odysseus and his crew
built a fire, set [their] hands on the cheeses, offered some to the gods and ate the bulk [themselves]

Telemachus expressing these reckless suitors, there in your own house, against your will (16.107). The
tempo of the phrase, three curt parts, provides emphasis of Odysseus s disapproval. Reckless holds a
negative connotation of irresponsible. Own house, and your will holds a positive connotation of
responsibility. The words contrast each other to indirectly characterize Telemachus as irresponsible.
The same irresponsibility is present in Odysseus when he allows his crew to eat the bulk of the food of
an unknown host. Odysseus and the crew eat the food behind Polyphemus s back, already disregarding
the consequences. A disregard for consequences shows irresponsibility. Odysseus, covertly eating
food, calling his son out on a trait Odysseus exemplifies, is a

Comparing T-Mobile, Axe And Nike
Different companies have their own unique ways in advertising their products through TV
commercials, billboards, print ads and such. These marketing styles are commonly called as
propaganda where in they persuade people to think their products are better than others. Though
advertisers use unrealistic propaganda about certain products, it has become effective in attracting
consumers to buy their products. Bandwagon is one technique used to convince people to join the
crowd as everyone else is in it. T Mobile, Axe and NIke are some companies that persuasively used

First, T Mobile released a commercial wherein they depicted a flash mob dancing in the lobby of
airport. Only few people were dancing and as it goes, the crowd started to join in. Everyone seemed
they enjoyed dancing with random people, even the adults one. Few people on the balcony started
taking pictures until everybody else has their phone out taking videos of those people who are
dancing. At the end of the commercial, people who joined the mob has also their phones out. Clearly,

The No Child Left Behind ( Nclb ) Act Launching America s...
In 2001, President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act launching America
s education system into an era of standardized testing as a method of holding states and schools
accountable for student achievement. With this recent surge of high stakes standardized testing,
teachers are held to increasingly higher expectations of quality instruction and meeting these
standards. However, schools are unprepared in achieving the goals of NCLB resulting in years of
struggle to improve student success in testing due to flaws in the traditional grading system. Current
schools and teachers lack proper grading practices that are inadequate of accurately representing
student achievement. With the increased focus on standards, it is imperative that schools begin to
implement an effective grading system so that all students and parents are provided accurate feedback
of students abilities.
There are myriad unforeseen consequences when schools use the traditional grading system. For the
past century, traditional grading practices and policies that have contributed to much of the failure of
student achievement. The use of the traditional grading system has slowly led to the major issue of
grade inflation. Most often students grade tend to be inflated with the help of non academic factors
such as homework, participation and student effort. High school teachers tend include effort as part of
the grade, giving high grades to students who work in class despite whether they

Tire pressure is important. If your tires aren t properly inflated, steering may be problematic and fuel
mileage may decrease. Similarly, overly inflated tires can also cause issues like blowouts or punctures.
And because big rigs are consistently exposed to different environments and surfaces, it s smart to
check tire pressure regularly particularly if there s a long journey on your agenda.
3. Brake performance is essential. Even the smallest sign of distress could spell trouble, so it s
important to address minor issues before they turn into something serious. Whether it s a squealing
noise, a vibrating sensation, or a lack of sensitivity to your touch, brake problems should never be
overlooked. Regular maintenance ensures that your brakes stay in great condition.
4. The more you drive, the more your rig needs maintenance. Big rigs can be serviced as they cross the
threshold of certain mileage points, so that they re consistently kept in optimal condition for your
travels. From replacing oil filters to checking lights to inspecting the engine, no element is left
untouched during semi truck maintenance. It s vital to stick with a schedule that keeps your semi truck

Case Study Of DANDOY
5. The image of DANDOY may suffer in the eyes of customers, when goods are delivered by a third
party Usually, only tractors are being subcontracted, while trailers belong to DANDOY. One of the
actions, which can be performed internally, is to notify the customer that the goods will be delivered
by a third party and not DANDOY truck. Such approach reflects the responsibility, customer centric
mindset and respect. At the same time, large customers typically do not pay attention, which truck the
goods are being delivered with. This issue might raise with SME customers. However, by taking a
transparent and pro active approach, the misunderstanding and image harm can be avoided.

Family structures and roles
Family structures and roles
We use the word role today meaning a function or part played in life. As a member of a family or a
work situation the roles we have in life depend on the situation we are in at the time. I myself am a
wife, a mother, a daughter, a care assistant, a student and a friend. As you can see I have many
different roles in my everyday living. The main role in my life will be the role within my family unit.
This project will look at the roles of members in a family unit and how this has changed over the last

Parametric Designs on Montgomery Modular Multiplier
In this paper I have used a technology independent parametric model for hardware design to capture
the performance variations in terms of area and throughput with the number of pipeline stages and
replications. Hardware design are based on Montgomery Modular Multiplier design with variable
pipeline stages and replication. In this paper we use a general form of algorithms consisting a loop
with loop carried dependencies from one iteration to next iteration to map on parametric hardware
design with pipelining and replication features. We have used an optimization process depend on this
pipelined model, and this optimization process apply on to a Montgomery multiplier implementation
on a Xilinx XC5VLX50T FPGA with 100 Mhz clock frequency. I have used Verilog HDL to
implement and validate these designs. Our optimization goal is speed and optimization effort is
normal in synthesis properties. For power analysis Xilinx Power Analyzer (XPA) is used which gives
the accurate total power for devices for different pipelining and replication values  Montgomery

Argument Against A Paid Maternity Leave Essay
All of the above are strong arguments for the pressing necessity of a mandated paid maternity leave.
Nevertheless, the many opponents of this initiative are arguing otherwise.
One argument against a paid maternity leave is based on the assumption that one of the parents should
not be working in the first place. In other words, a full time stay at home parent is beneficial to the
development of the child and therefore a paid limited time maternity leave is redundant and is simply
a waste of resources. Suzanne Venker, a writer, insists that According to Public Agenda, 70% of
parents with children under age five believe having a parent at home is best. And 63% disagree that
children in daycare receive just as good care and attention as with a stay at home parent. These
findings are commensurate with 2014 Pew data that shows 60% of Americans say children are better
off when a parent stays home to focus on the family. ( Why Paid Maternity Leave Is Not the Answer. )
According to these findings, Americans are unlikely to agree to encourage mothers to put their
children in childcare and go back to work, let alone spend money on a paid maternity leave.
Nice try, Ms. Venker, but let s continue to read the mentioned 2014 Pew data till the end: Stay at home
mothers are younger, poorer and less educated than their working counterparts. For example, 34% of
stay at home mothers are poor, compared with 12% of working mothers. ( 7 Key Findings about Stay

After I viewed and heard that judge decision on this case, my position is in favor of the defendant.
The formation of a contract is achieved where there is an offer and acceptance between the contracting
parties. An acceptance is sometimes referred to as meeting of the minds that involves the exchange of
consideration, either a promise to act, provide goods, services or money. Relative to this case, a valid

cause serious catastrophe to the cardiac system. Combining these defects together makes it that much
more complicated for the cardiologist to correct. Without the advancements made in cardiology, this
diagnosis would mean certain death to the postnatal child. The congenital defects of tetralogy of Fallot
was named after a French physician, Louis Arthur Etienne Fallot in 1888. Fallot referred to the
congenital condition as La Maladie Bleu because of the cyanotic appearance of the patients. [Bailliard,

Malpositioned simply means that the aorta opens inside the heart in the wrong place. In a normal,
healthy heart, the aorta is connected to the left ventricle, allowing oxygen rich blood to be pumped
throughout the body. In patients suffering from tetralogy of Fallot, the aorta is slightly shifted to the
right. This slight shift places the artery directly over the ventricular septum defect, which is typically
located at the tip of the ventricles. As previously stated, the VSD allows oxygen rich and oxygen poor
blood to mix together. With the aorta being directly over the VSD, this allows the mixture of blood to
be pumped through the rest of the body, again contributing to the cyanotic presentation of the

Tarquin Character Analysis
How Sir Tarquin Came to Be In the novel Le Morte Darthur: The Winchester Manuscript, the author,
Sir Thomas Malory, presents the reader with many diverse villains, one of whom is Sir Tarquin.
Through Sir Tarquin s words, expressions, and actions, Malory portrays Sir Tarquin as a malicious
villain who despises one specific character, Sir Lancelot Du Lake. This built up anger and revulsion
Sir Tarquin feels towards Sir Lancelot results in Sir Tarquin becoming one of the most dexterous
knights in all of Christendom. He becomes such by searching out, challenging, and defeating many
knights of the Round Table.
The reader can ask, What is the motive behind Sir Tarquin s quest? Before Sir Lancelot and Sir
Tarquin duel, Malory leaves this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And for Sir Lancelot s sake I have slain a hundred good knights... (Malory 105). Since his brother was
slain, Sir Tarquin has sought after Sir Lancelot and made it his objective to seek out the death of the
one who murdered his brother. Sir Tarquin spent year after year fighting brave knights and one could
describe this villain as malicious and spiteful. Daniel Haybron writes in his book Evil Characters that
a person who is malicious is deeply hostile toward other people, wishing them great misfortune
(Haybron 136). When Malory writes of him, Sir Tarquin is one of the best knights of the land because
of malice. According to this definition of malice, Sir Tarquin exemplifies a malicious behavior. Before
learning about Sir Lancelot s identity, Sir Tarquin was willing to spare Sir Lancelot if he was not the
one who killed his brother. But Sir Tarquin desires tribulation to befall his character defining enemy
which he then resumes his battle with Sir Lancelot until his death. Their four hours of fighting show
how his years of wrath and abhorrence towards Sir Lancelot drove him to raise his dexterity with the
sword and become one of the greatest knights written about in Malory s novel.
In order to investigate this claim, one must start from the beginning. The reader is first introduced to
the villain Sir Tarquin as Sir Lionel watches in horror as three of his fellow brethren of the Round
Table are bested by a lone, unidentified

Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants Essay
Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants
Ernest Hemingway s short story Hills Like White Elephants relies on symbolism to carry the theme of
either choosing to live selfishly and dealing with the results, or choosing a more difficult and selfless
path and reveling in the rewards. The symbolic materials and the symbolic characters aid the reader s
understanding of the subtle theme of this story. The hills symbolize two different decisions that the
pregnant girl in our story is faced with. Both hills are completely opposite of each other, and each hill
or decision has a consequence that is just as different as the appearance of the hills.
Hemingway uses drinking, the hillsides, and a railroad track between the two hills to ... Show more

She must choose one hill or another, she cannot sit on the tracks forever and mull over the pros and
cons of each decision.
The girl, the American and the woman all symbolize the decision that must be made. The girl
symbolizes youth, innocence and naivety. She is totally ignorant of the consequences of an abortion
because she is young, beautiful and in the prime of her life, and experiencing new things all the time.
Hemingway uses her to show a young, pregnant girl trying to decide if she wants to remain carefree
like the American or if she wants to be like the woman and be wise and mature. The girl battles back
and forth with an inner conflict, two different sides pulling at her final decision; If she has her baby
she will ruin her youthfulness and destroy her romantic relationship with the American, but it very
well could transform her into a woman who is wise, mature and focused on someone other than
herself. The girl is getting tired of the same routine of drinks and a social life and she decides to do
something very different. She decides to keep her baby, to become a woman and leave her carefree
and childish ways behind. However, the only thing that is standing between the girl and the life she
wants for herself and her child is the American. The American is a selfish individualist that wants to
do things his way and only lives to please himself. The

An Empire for Slavery Book Essay
Randolph B. Campbell s An Empire for Slavery: The Peculiar Institution in Texas provides in an in
depth look at the slavery existence in the state of Texas. He provides the factors that explain the
establishment and growth of slavery. Campbell also explains the economic and legal institution of
Texas, and explores the physical and psychological effects of both slaves and their masters prior to the
Civil War, during, and after emancipation. Campbell provides clear detail of slavery s impact on Texas
slaveholders and society, and how the Civil war affected slavery prior to its destruction. Slavery came

He provides unique insight and depth which is hard to refute because of the laws that allowed slavery
to exist. In January of 1824, Stephan F. Austin issued the Criminal Regulations, which provided Texas
with its first slave code. The Criminal Regulations seemed to be the basis for the first codified slave
code in 1836. The code involved five essential principles which allowed for slavery to exist in Texas.
These principles included the right to own slaves, criminal conduct regarding slaves, the law afforded
to the slaves, slave escapees, and free blacks respectively. With the Constitution of 1845, slave law
had matured into an extensive system dedicated to the management of slavery. The extent of the laws
by 1845 toward slavery were so vast it is hard to dispute the point that slavery was not a vital aspect in
Texan life. Under the law, slaves were still afforded certain privileges that would allow them to gain a
measure of responsibility. Campbell brings up the many responsibilities that slaves in Texas have in
chapter 6. He states that a vast majority of slaves work in the fields, while around 30% of the slave
population work in the towns and as cooks and butlers. He also brings up several instances where
skilled slaves hired themselves out to make money using their skills as carpenters or blacksmiths.
Campbell s provides a unique look into slavery that most author s do not convey. Slavery in Texas,

Persuasive Essay On Wild Boars
Wild boars were originally brought over by the Spanish in 1539 as food aboard their ships and in the
new lands, but now they re taking over much of the US. There are an estimated five to six million wild
boars in the United States with an estimated one million in Florida alone. Spreading rapidly with no
intention of slowing down, these wild boars are causing devastation to the native environment
throughout the United States with their destructive habits. The US government has precautions put
into place to try and control aspects of the boar population, but they re negating it with regulations that
are benefiting the boars rather than the general population and native species. There are measures that
need to be put into place in order to control the wild boar population and the destruction that comes
with them.
The native Flora and Fauna of the United States is being threatened by numerous invasive species, one
of which is considered to be the most destructive. The wild boar is known to dwell in 35 states and is
costing the US an estimated $1.5 billion each year in damages. Eating almost everything it sets its
eyes on, boars dig up anything it desires to eat in a process called rooting. When a wild boar does a
rooting behavior to dig up food it destabilizes the soil surface which leads to surface erosion. The
surface erosion removes the top layer of soil that is responsible for having the richest organic matter
leading to the soil losing nutrients needed to support plant life. Wild board also feed on a large
quantity of native vegetation leaving the native plants not enough time to fully recover before being
trampled over again by the damaging heathens. Males also tusks small trees removing the bark layer
on an area of the tree in order to mark their territory and display their dominance. This tusking
behavior causing serious harm to trees and has the potential to kill the tree. There is a phloem layer
under the bark of a tree that comes up when boars do their tusking behavior. Nutrients such as water
and minerals travel up the Phloem layer of the tree from the roots to the leaves, but if the phloem layer
is removed from a portion of the tree it restricts the nutrients distributed throughout the tree and leads

Desert Places Robert Frost Summary
Robert Frost was an American poet who commonly used images of nature in his poetry. The use of
nature in poetry is typically used to create a connection between humanity and nature. The use of
nature in his poem Desert Places , published in 1936, does exactly this as Frost, through the narrator,
vividly describes an open field which is covered with snow, and subsequently the feelings or emotions
created within as a response to the observations. The title of the poem itself already alludes to the
central theme of loneliness and death, as a desert is commonly a lonely, empty and abandoned place.
However, the poem itself compares the narrator s life and mind to that of a desert. Through
observation of nature, Frost explores the ability of nature to inspire introspective thoughts of life and
death along with self realization. Frost, through the narrator, begins his narrative by mentioning that
the snow covers the land and everything contained in that space quickly and without reservation or
discrimination. He states, Snow falling and night falling fast, oh, fast (Frost, 1936, line 1). As he
continues his narration about the landscape he is viewing and about to embark upon, the reader
becomes easily preoccupied with the sense of emptiness and loneliness (Wand, 2013). The speaker
mentions the field being almost covered smooth in snow (Frost 1936, line 3) and the reader is made to
imagine the blank, baron and lonely state. Frost s description of the dark and quiet landscape is
comparable to death and the nature of this inevitable end of life event. This may be Frost s idea of how
death approaches and the effects and feelings contained within its victims. The mention of all animals
being smothered in their lairs (Front, 1936, line 6) shows that death is indiscriminate and covers
everyone and anything in its path. Generally, images of nature are thought to be beautiful, serene,
romantic and typically desired for all these reasons. Frost however, creates a different idea and feeling
about nature with his description of the surroundings. Critics of Frost s poetry view him as a skeptic
who regarded nature as an antagonist (Liebman, 1996). With this criticism in mind, loneliness and a
feeling of solitude is

Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A...
Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely
researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing characterizes
old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and mental decline (Allen,
2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in Western culture, and most
individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing. Companies, often phase out older
employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as being less of a risk, and more of an asset
to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is especially prevalent in industries related to
media and professional sports. Media, favors young individuals because they convey an image of
beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the
recruitment process of professional sports teams. The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism
in the dance community, because dance combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are
considered to decline with age.
The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of
previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with three
dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as dancers,
their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that

Use Of Power By Police
Use of Power by the Police Historically police were not limited to laws which prohibited bad behavior
and/or corruption such as, curbside justice which entailed police beating citizens with nightsticks
especially targeting racial minorities. With a lack of organizational control, inefficiencies and
disorganization the courts, legislatures and U.S. Constitution stepped in creating retrains on the power
of government agencies with what is referred to as the rule of law . The two examples that
demonstrate the use of legal power by the police that I chose for this discussion is the Miranda
Warning and the use of probable cause.
Miranda Warning The Miranda Warning is a part of the Fifth Amendment which entails a person s
privilege against self incrimination. Before a person can be interrogated an explanation of his or her

How Technology Has Changed the Accounting Profession
1. Introduction
Thirty years ago, most financial accounting was done manually, leading to a great deal of paperwork.
Currently, most accounting information is recorded via computers and wide area networks (Journal of
Accountancy, 1994a). Technology has certainly changed the face of accounting over the years. While
it is unclear whether technology s impact on accounting has been positive or negative, it is clear that
technology has drastically changed the accounting profession. Often a technological advance may be
an asset to a business, but a liability to the firm s accountant. For example, information can be
provided in a timely and more accurate manner, but at the price of confidentiality. Some of the impacts
of technology are neither ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Expert systems and advanced accounting software that have recently been designed could be perhaps
one of the greatest assets of technology to accountants. Users of this recent development in technology
range from the smallest proprietorships to the largest of corporations. Expert systems are a type of
artificial intelligence that assists accountants in their decision making (Journal of Accountancy, 1996).
These systems are especially useful in both auditing and tax decision making but can be developed to
aid users in many different areas including inventory control and financial statement preparation (
Pincus and Accounting). A software company called Intuit recently developed a program called
Quicken 4 for Windows. This software provides accountants with on line documentation, multimedia
tutorials, and even interactive advice from financial experts ( Byte, 1995). Visual Accountmate
developed a program called Manufactures Inventory that posts the goods to the appropriate accounts
as the inventories move through the manufacturing process. For the small privately owned business,
Windows 95 has developed a program that helps accountants to develop financial statements by
presenting a series of specific questions ( Accounting Technology, 1997). These are just a few
examples of how expert systems and accounting software

Vinegar Lab Report
How Much Acetic Acid Is in Vinegar?
The chemical makeup of certain acids and bases that are not managed reacted properly can be harmful
and a result of improperly measured acids and bases. This could have a negative effect on humans
pertaining to different liquids that could be consumed or physically hazardous to the body. However,
due to decades of research in the department of science, it can be confirmed that ideas like the HSAB
Principle and the Lewis Principle help categorize acids and bases between being harmful or not and
secondarily help humans be more cautious, according to professor Tse Lok Ho.1 However,
experimental these measurements can be specified and determined through titrations. According to
Jakub Ederer and other researchers, titrations have quick and determinable results and do not require a
lot of money and are commonly used for acids.2 The Lab Manual provides an experiment that
includes a titration to determine the moles of acetic acid (HC2H3O2) in a specific amount of vinegar.3
To follow through with this experiment, the acid base reaction has a known molar concentration of
NaOH solution that reacts with an unknown molar concentration of acetic acid to make water and
NaC2H3O2, resulting in a titration. Before the initial trial titration, a thorough cleaning procedure of
the buret and materials was necessary to ensure there is no contamination of other chemicals or

Servant Leadership At United Service Automobile...
As with the companies in the case studies, United Service Automobile Association (USAA) illustrates
different facets of servant leadership (Northouse, 2013, p.236). The company displays servant
leadership based on a mixture of a few of the ten characteristics of servant leadership (Spears, 2002)
and the four of the seven servant leadership behaviors (Liden, Wayne, et al. s, 2008). The
characteristics are empathy and listening. The behaviors displayed are putting followers first, helping
followers grow and succeed, behaving ethically, and creating value for the community. Servant
leadership is seen in USAA from the creation of the company in 1922 to present.
USAA was started on the basis of empathy. Empathy is standing in the shoes of another person and
attempting to see the world from that person s point of view (p. 221). This was displayed when 25
Army officers agreed to insure each other s vehicles when no one else would. The felt the heartache of
not being able to find anyone to insure their automobile, so after discussing the issue with each other
they came up with a way to insure each other to drive within the legal perimeters of the law. These
Army officers started the company for personal reasons and now USAA provides services and
products to over 10 million members (n.d, 2014). The company is more than just an automobile
insurance company. They provide a variety of services that include: insurance, banking, investing, real

Dangers Of Deforestation
Why Deforestation Should Stop and How It Affects the Environment?
Today one of the biggest ecological problems is Deforestation. For instance, every year the rainforests
are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth s forests on a
massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the land available
for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why trees are remove
from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit. However, the biggest
causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of urban zones. Often, small
farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as slash and
burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and
subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which
provide the world s wood and paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of
them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further
deforestation. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world s land area and extend throughout half
the size of most countries but, many are lost each year (Live Science).
Stopping deforestation can significantly address numerous challenges including the protection of
millions of animal and plant species, reducing global warming,

most likely geared towards history and media enthusiasts. It is great for its intended audience, but
lacks exposition of much else other than his education and media careers. Edwards says that because
With the focus strictly on Ed Murrow s innovations in radio and TV, large chunks of his life had to be
omitted (9). As such, there is a lot of information missing for somebody that is extremely interested in
Murrow s life outside of work. This does help to maintain a concise summary of his life in the
industry without diluting the book with trivial facts about his life. For this reason, I think the appeal of
this book is much more widespread than just history or media buffs since it is a quick but extremely

The Bottom Of The Spiral
the bottom of the spiral. It was just a cool system that I had never thought of. I also got to try a passion
fruit while I was there. I had never even heard of them before. It was so good, and tasted like a bunch
of tropical flavors mixed together. Best of all. It was grown in that garden. As a group we helped
Emilia with a couple projects in the garden. I helped make a path out of rocks. It ended up looking

Week #10 (11/3) Flying Fish Farm:
This farm was very interesting to me. The aquaponics were super cool, as that is always something I
have been interested in. A teacher I had in high school experimented with aquaponics, but it was on a
much smaller scale. Her system was not as successful though, as she struggled with some diseases.
The owner of Flying Fish seemed much more successful. This is super cool to see new processes
working for people. Another unique aspect of his farm was that he did a lot of seedlings. That way he
could sell the plants as a product. He said he sold his plants to places like Earth Fare, which is very
cool. Another unique thing was the popcorn that he grew. I have never had popcorn right from the cob,
and I would like to try it sometime after hearing the owner talk about it. A new thing that the owner
was trying was chickens. He was talking a lot about growing his own feed for them to make the
feedback loop

The Australian police system and the German police system have many similarities, but also have their differences. When comparing the two, points to take into consideration is overall appearance, history and purpose of the police system. Appearance among the public is an important factor that Australia and Germany considered when establishing their current police system. Joining hypocrites John Lennon, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Voltaire is the Ithacan King, Odysseus. In The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus is a hypocrite In society, successful people are hypocrites. Odysseus warns people not to anger the gods, but Odysseus does so himself. Polyphemus calls Odysseus out Stranger, he grumbled... you must be a fool, stranger, or come from nowhere, telling me to fear the gods or avoid their wrath (9.306 309)! Odysseus and his crew built a fire, set [their] hands on the cheeses, offered some to the gods and ate the bulk [themselves] and settled down inside, awaiting his return (9.258 260). Disguised as a beggar, Odysseus responds to Telemachus expressing these reckless suitors, there in your own house, against your will (16.107). The same irresponsibility is present in Odysseus when he allows his crew to eat the bulk of the food of an unknown host. There are measures that need to be put into place in order to control the wild boar population and the destruction that comes with them. The native Flora and Fauna of the United States is being threatened by numerous invasive species, one of which is considered to be the most destructive. The wild boar is known to dwell in 35 states and is costing the US an estimated $1.5 billion each year in damages. Eating almost everything it sets its eyes on, boars dig up anything it desires to eat in a process called rooting. When a wild boar does a rooting behavior to dig up food it destabilizes the soil surface which leads to surface erosion. The surface erosion removes the top layer of soil that is responsible for having the richest organic matter leading to the soil losing nutrients needed to support plant life. Wild board also feed on a large quantity of native vegetation leaving the native plants not enough time to fully recover before being trampled over again by the damaging heathens. Males also tusks small trees removing the bark layer on an area of the tree in order to mark their territory and display their dominance. This tusking behavior causing serious harm to trees and has the potential to kill the tree. There is a phloem layer under the bark of a tree that comes up when boars do their tusking behavior. Nutrients such as water and minerals travel up the Phloem layer of the tree from the roots to the leaves, but if the phloem layer is removed from a portion of the tree it restricts the nutrients distributed throughout the tree and leads ... She liked this idea but explained to me she would struggle to write it herself and asked me if I could sit with her and help her to think of the words to say and if I would write it out for her. I agreed to do this and I explained to Mrs Smith that this was a very personal thing she had asked me to do and reassured her that what was written in the letter would strictly stay between me and her and this comforted her. At 11am that day myself, Mrs Smith, her neighbour and our activities co ordinator went out into the back garden and had the service, to which Mrs Smith said a few words and we sprinkled the ashes of the letter in a corner of the garden which has a little seating area and explained to Mrs Smith if she was ever feeling down or sad she was always welcome to come back to this area in the garden to have a chat or just to sit and think. • 26. Desert Places Robert Frost Summary Robert Frost was an American poet who commonly used images of nature in his poetry. The use of nature in poetry is typically used to create a connection between humanity and nature. The use of nature in his poem Desert Places , published in 1936, does exactly this as Frost, through the narrator, vividly describes an open field which is covered with snow, and subsequently the feelings or emotions created within as a response to the observations. The title of the poem itself already alludes to the central theme of loneliness and death, as a desert is commonly a lonely, empty and abandoned place. However, the poem itself compares the narrator s life and mind to that of a desert. Through observation of nature, Frost explores the ability of nature to inspire introspective thoughts of life and death along with self realization. Frost, through the narrator, begins his narrative by mentioning that the snow covers the land and everything contained in that space quickly and without reservation or discrimination. He states, Snow falling and night falling fast, oh, fast (Frost, 1936, line 1). As he continues his narration about the landscape he is viewing and about to embark upon, the reader becomes easily preoccupied with the sense of emptiness and loneliness (Wand, 2013). The speaker mentions the field being almost covered smooth in snow (Frost 1936, line 3) and the reader is made to imagine the blank, baron and lonely state. Frost s description of the dark and quiet landscape is comparable to death and the nature of this inevitable end of life event. This may be Frost s idea of how death approaches and the effects and feelings contained within its victims. The mention of all animals being smothered in their lairs (Front, 1936, line 6) shows that death is indiscriminate and covers everyone and anything in its path. Generally, images of nature are thought to be beautiful, serene, romantic and typically desired for all these reasons. Frost however, creates a different idea and feeling about nature with his description of the surroundings. Critics of Frost s poetry view him as a skeptic who regarded nature as an antagonist (Liebman, 1996). With this criticism in mind, loneliness and a feeling of solitude is ... • 27. Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A... Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing characterizes old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and mental decline (Allen, 2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in Western culture, and most individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing. Companies, often phase out older employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as being less of a risk, and more of an asset to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is especially prevalent in industries related to media and professional sports. Media, favors young individuals because they convey an image of beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the recruitment process of professional sports teams. The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism in the dance community, because dance combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are considered to decline with age. The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with three dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as dancers, their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that ... Use Of Power By Police Use of Power by the Police Historically police were not limited to laws which prohibited bad behavior and/or corruption such as, curbside justice which entailed police beating citizens with nightsticks especially targeting racial minorities. With a lack of organizational control, inefficiencies and disorganization the courts, legislatures and U.S. Constitution stepped in creating retrains on the power of government agencies with what is referred to as the rule of law . Currently, most accounting information is recorded via computers and wide area networks (Journal of Accountancy, 1994a). Technology has certainly changed the face of accounting over the years. While it is unclear whether technology s impact on accounting has been positive or negative, it is clear that technology has drastically changed the accounting profession. Often a technological advance may be an asset to a business, but a liability to the firm s accountant. For example, information can be provided in a timely and more accurate manner, but at the price of confidentiality. Some of the impacts of technology are neither ... Users of this recent development in technology range from the smallest proprietorships to the largest of corporations. Expert systems are a type of artificial intelligence that assists accountants in their decision making (Journal of Accountancy, 1996). These systems are especially useful in both auditing and tax decision making but can be developed to aid users in many different areas including inventory control and financial statement preparation ( Pincus and Accounting). A software company called Intuit recently developed a program called Quicken 4 for Windows. This software provides accountants with on line documentation, multimedia tutorials, and even interactive advice from financial experts ( Byte, 1995). Visual Accountmate developed a program called Manufactures Inventory that posts the goods to the appropriate accounts as the inventories move through the manufacturing process. For the small privately owned business, Windows 95 has developed a program that helps accountants to develop financial statements by presenting a series of specific questions ( Accounting Technology, 1997). • 31. Vinegar Lab Report How Much Acetic Acid Is in Vinegar? The chemical makeup of certain acids and bases that are not managed reacted properly can be harmful and a result of improperly measured acids and bases. This could have a negative effect on humans pertaining to different liquids that could be consumed or physically hazardous to the body. However, due to decades of research in the department of science, it can be confirmed that ideas like the HSAB Principle and the Lewis Principle help categorize acids and bases between being harmful or not and secondarily help humans be more cautious, according to professor Tse Lok Ho.1 However, experimental these measurements can be specified and determined through titrations. According to Jakub Ederer and other researchers, titrations have quick and determinable results and do not require a lot of money and are commonly used for acids.2 The Lab Manual provides an experiment that includes a titration to determine the moles of acetic acid (HC2H3O2) in a specific amount of vinegar.3 To follow through with this experiment, the acid base reaction has a known molar concentration of NaOH solution that reacts with an unknown molar concentration of acetic acid to make water and NaC2H3O2, resulting in a titration. • 35. Servant Leadership At United Service Automobile... As with the companies in the case studies, United Service Automobile Association (USAA) illustrates different facets of servant leadership (Northouse, 2013, p.236). The company displays servant leadership based on a mixture of a few of the ten characteristics of servant leadership (Spears, 2002) and the four of the seven servant leadership behaviors (Liden, Wayne, et al. s, 2008). The characteristics are empathy and listening. The behaviors displayed are putting followers first, helping followers grow and succeed, behaving ethically, and creating value for the community. Servant leadership is seen in USAA from the creation of the company in 1922 to present. USAA was started on the basis of empathy. Empathy is standing in the shoes of another person and attempting to see the world from that person s point of view (p. 221). This was displayed when 25 Army officers agreed to insure each other s vehicles when no one else would. The felt the heartache of not being able to find anyone to insure their automobile, so after discussing the issue with each other they came up with a way to insure each other to drive within the legal perimeters of the law. These Army officers started the company for personal reasons and now USAA provides services and products to over 10 million members (n.d, 2014). • 37. Dangers Of Deforestation Why Deforestation Should Stop and How It Affects the Environment? Today one of the biggest ecological problems is Deforestation. For instance, every year the rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit. However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which provide the world s wood and paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further deforestation. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world s land area and extend throughout half the size of most countries but, many are lost each year (Live Science). It is great for its intended audience, but lacks exposition of much else other than his education and media careers.
